Speaker 3: Friday edition of the show. And I don't know about you,
1:41
Speaker 3: but this seems like it's been the longest week ever.
1:44
Speaker 3: I don't know. It's like, is this week ever going
1:47
Speaker 3: to come to a well, it is coming to an end.
1:49
Speaker 3: We got a lot of stuff to get to. Of course,
1:51
Speaker 3: TBT is going on tonight. It starts off the CODDLESEEUMA
1:54
Speaker 3: Convention Center. By the way, you can catch the games
1:56
Speaker 3: on the Metro News Radio Network. Now we're gonna have
1:59
Speaker 3: tonight's games start on Charleston's ESPN Radio via the Metro
2:04
Speaker 3: News Radio Network where the Reds on five adwc HS.
2:08
Speaker 3: And of course everybody's kind of looking ahead and hoping
2:11
Speaker 3: that we get the matchup that we all want and
2:13
Speaker 3: that would be of best. Virginia wins their game and
2:16
Speaker 3: heard that wins their game, and then the two would meet.
2:18
Speaker 3: So that's what we're hoping for. But you don't want
2:21
Speaker 3: to count the proverbial chickens before they're hatched, So we'll
2:25
Speaker 3: talk about TBT if we get a chance. A little
2:27
Speaker 3: bit later on the show, there was a major drug bust.
2:30
Speaker 3: It took place over in Putnam County. The mayor of
2:32
Speaker 3: Hurricane Scott Edwards, will join us to talk about that,
2:35
Speaker 3: plus tonight's Live on the Levee. Keeping our fingers crossed

2:51
Speaker 3: It's Friday, which means we welcome in our good friend
2:53
Speaker 3: Angie Gillenwater from the Canal Charleston, Humaine Association with this
2:56
Speaker 3: week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. ANGI, Good
2:59
Speaker 3: morning Friday.
3:01
Speaker 5: Good morning and Thank goodness it's finally Friday.
3:04
Speaker 3: Absolutely is always our pet of the week's picture posted
3:08
Speaker 3: over on my social media. It's Dave Allen Radio on
3:10
Speaker 3: Facebook and at dave a seventy on X and I
3:14
Speaker 3: love this. The name is Officer Thickham's and we had
3:19
Speaker 3: it's a cat this week by the name of Officer Thickhams.
3:21
Speaker 3: If I were a cop, by the by the way,
3:23
Speaker 3: my name would be Officer Thickhams. Just throwing that out there.
3:27
Speaker 3: So story behind the name.
3:30
Speaker 5: Anchie Officer Thickhams is a cat that came in and
3:34
Speaker 5: sometimes unaltered unknewtered male cats will have very sick what
3:40
Speaker 5: we call tomcat cheeks, uh huh. And so Officer Thickhams
3:45
Speaker 5: is originates from how sick that his cheeks were when
3:50
Speaker 5: he first came into the shelter.
3:52
Speaker 3: Okay, I didn't know, because you know, sometimes I have
3:54
Speaker 3: to ask you or Ryan, you know, to give me
3:56
Speaker 3: the story behind the particular it's this when's it's obvious
4:01
Speaker 3: he just had chubby cheeks. Now again his pictures clost
4:04
Speaker 3: to the Dave Aland Radio on Facebook and at Dave
4:05
Speaker 3: a seventy on X tell us the story of Officer Thickhams.
4:11
Speaker 5: US Officer Dickhams was brought to the shelter of as astray.
4:16
Speaker 5: The people that brought him in were just concerned about
4:19
Speaker 5: his safety. They'd been taken care of him a couple
4:21
Speaker 5: of days and he hadn't eaten anything. Uh So we
4:25
Speaker 5: took him in and come to find out he didn't
4:27
Speaker 5: eat anything because he hardly has any teeth lifts. So
4:31
Speaker 5: we found out his recipe is wet food, so he's
4:36
Speaker 5: able to eat wet food pretty easily. And now that
4:39
Speaker 5: he you know, we discovered the root of the problem.
4:42
Speaker 5: We got him neutered, fixed, vaccinated, all that good stuff,
4:46
Speaker 5: and he is now living at pet Coat and he
4:49
Speaker 5: is just the sweetest cat that you can imagine. He
4:52
Speaker 5: loves to get head scratches and he loved catnip, So
4:57
Speaker 5: he is just a sweet boy.
4:59
Speaker 3: And you know, do you think about that? And you
5:01
Speaker 3: don't know what his story is. As you said, he
5:02
Speaker 3: was astray, so people were taking care of him and
5:04
Speaker 3: they couldn't figure out why he wasn't eating because they
5:06
Speaker 3: were probably putting out, you know, dry food, not knowing
5:09
Speaker 3: if they can't really get close to him, you know,
5:11
Speaker 3: they I mean, they probably thought they were doing the
5:13
Speaker 3: right thing. But you know, you wonder how exactly did
5:17
Speaker 3: he survive as astray. You don't know how long he
5:19
Speaker 3: was astray if he just had to look for only
5:24
Speaker 3: soft food.
5:25
Speaker 5: Yeah, that is that is a head scrutcher. I hadn't
5:28
Speaker 5: thought of that before, honestly, but yeah, that is a
5:31
Speaker 5: good point. It's hard to tell how long he had
5:35
Speaker 5: actually been out there looking for things that he could eat,
5:39
Speaker 5: or what he was even eating at that point.
5:41
Speaker 3: Yeah. Again, we're talking with Angie gillen Water from the
5:43
Speaker 3: GNAAL Charleston Humane Association with the story of Officer thickhams
5:48
Speaker 3: our adopting police put of the Week. So what did
5:50
Speaker 3: the officer part? I get the Thickhams. Where did the
5:52
Speaker 3: officer part come from?
5:55
Speaker 5: I think we wanted to go with something that wasn't
5:57
Speaker 5: like mister Thickhams.
5:58
Speaker 3: Or perfect, so we gave it. We made him a
6:02
Speaker 3: civil service employee. Okay, that's that's perfectly fine. So he
6:06
Speaker 3: is around seven or eight years old, little if any teeth, obviously,
6:10
Speaker 3: is going to have to have wet food, and he's
6:13
Speaker 3: living it up now in the pet Goo penthouses, and
6:16
Speaker 3: he is neutered vexed and ready to go home. We'll
6:19
Speaker 3: continue the story of Officer Thickhams here momentarily, let's talk
6:22
Speaker 3: about numbers. How are we looking out there, Angie?
6:26
Speaker 5: Things are getting to a more manageable number. We're still
6:29
Speaker 5: closed intake for sick and injured animals only. We're looking
6:33
Speaker 5: at just under five hundred animals. Yesterday when I left,
6:36
Speaker 5: we were around four.
6:37
Speaker 3: Seventy in a building that's probably designed for what would
6:41
Speaker 3: the optimal number be.
6:43
Speaker 5: Usually anywhere between two fifty to three hundred.
6:46
Speaker 3: And therein law is the problem. You're right around that
6:48
Speaker 3: five hundred market in a building that's designed, you know,
6:51
Speaker 3: to be two fifty to three hundred. And that's why
6:53
Speaker 3: at this time the shelter can only take in sigur
6:55
Speaker 3: injured animals. So what do you need? Know now? Right now?
7:00
Speaker 3: I know that you always need things like puppy pads.
7:03
Speaker 3: What's on the wish list right now.
7:06
Speaker 5: Big needs right now are puppy pads, dog dog wet
7:09
Speaker 5: food and Peurina kitten chow. Those are the things that
7:12
Speaker 5: we're running really low in numbers.
7:14
Speaker 3: On Doc and Ange Gildawater again from the Canal Charlest
7:17
Speaker 3: New Mains association that ave Allancechell when five eighty Live
7:19
Speaker 3: is brought to you in part by your hometown baseball team,
7:21
Speaker 3: the Charleston Dirty Birds. Birds on the road this weekend
7:24
Speaker 3: at Long Island and next week they're a high point.
7:25
Speaker 3: They would turn home to go Martin Ballpark next Friday night.
7:28
Speaker 3: For tickets, for mosting schedules, gear, merchandise and more, visit
7:31
Speaker 3: Dirtybirds Baseball dot com. And you still try to do
7:33
Speaker 3: some hiring there, right.
7:36
Speaker 5: We are open interviews where yesterday and we had a
7:39
Speaker 5: lot of people show up, a lot of new faces.
7:41
Speaker 5: So we're hoping that those people come back and want
7:45
Speaker 5: to work with us.
7:47
Speaker 3: Well hopefully, because we have it's a struggle to find people.
7:51
Speaker 3: And I mean we're not going to sugarcoat it's it's
7:53
Speaker 3: a very demanding job, both mentally and physically working there.
7:58
Speaker 5: Yes, and it does take a villain which one person
8:01
Speaker 5: cannot do it all there, trust me.
8:03
Speaker 3: Yeah, because I think you and a couple others are
8:05
Speaker 3: that one or two people. Right, that's while you're trying
8:07
Speaker 3: to but you've got a good team up there. But
8:09
Speaker 3: hopefully we just need to add more members to the team.
8:12
Speaker 3: Talk about this Adoptions after Dark event that you're doing tonight.
8:16
Speaker 5: Yeah, I am very excited for adoptions after dark tonight,
8:20
Speaker 5: we will be open until ten pm. So if you
8:22
Speaker 5: have to work or you have nothing to do tonight,
8:25
Speaker 5: we will be at the shelter open until ten pm
8:28
Speaker 5: to process adoptions or process fosters. If you want to
8:32
Speaker 5: come grab a late night snuggle buddy for the weekend.
8:35
Speaker 5: We'll be there till ten o'clock tonight.
8:38
Speaker 3: And let's talk about the need for fosters, because you know,
8:42
Speaker 3: there's a lot of people, and we've told the stories before,
8:44
Speaker 3: people that do this almost professionally. I mean they don't
8:48
Speaker 3: get paid for it, obviously, but this is what they do.
8:50
Speaker 3: I got a great, great friend of mine. He and
8:52
Speaker 3: his wife are cat fosterers. That's what they do. Talk
8:55
Speaker 3: about the need for fosters.
8:58
Speaker 5: So fostering is the biggest re ward word that you
9:01
Speaker 5: can have in the animal shelter sheltering world. It is
9:04
Speaker 5: the fun and excitement and love of owning a pet,
9:09
Speaker 5: but it's temporary. You can, you know, return them at
9:11
Speaker 5: anytime to the shelter. It's a small, short term commitment
9:17
Speaker 5: and we provide everything for our foster specifically, so you
9:21
Speaker 5: literally don't have to spend a time to welcome a
9:24
Speaker 5: pet into your home and take care of them until
9:27
Speaker 5: they go to their forever homes. And fostering is just
9:30
Speaker 5: a way. Like I said, it's perfect because it is
9:33
Speaker 5: short term pet ownership.
9:34
Speaker 3: And you've got your event coming up Kegs Curcainines, right.
9:39
Speaker 5: Yes, Kegs Canines is creeping up on us.
9:41
Speaker 3: And when is that? What's the date on them?
9:44
Speaker 5: Do you believe that would be August to night? Okay,
9:47
Speaker 5: it's the second Saturday in August.
9:49
Speaker 3: Okay, second Saturday in August, all right, and we'll be
9:51
Speaker 3: over there for that. We appreciate uh uh you guys
9:54
Speaker 3: doing it because it's a great, great event. And you know,
9:56
Speaker 3: it's interesting because last last night we had the the
10:01
Speaker 3: celebration for our second anniversary of our classic rock station
10:04
Speaker 3: ninety eight seven a Mountain and we were all I
10:06
Speaker 3: had to move the location. Uh, there was circumstances me
10:09
Speaker 3: on our control, but we ended up doing the party
10:11
Speaker 3: at Fife Street and I ran in to a buddy
10:13
Speaker 3: of mine named Mark down there and Mark and I
10:16
Speaker 3: had known each other for a year or so and
10:18
Speaker 3: he I saw him at Kegs for Canines last year
10:21
Speaker 3: and he was actually adopting the dog that day, and
10:25
Speaker 3: I got to hear the story about the dog that
10:26
Speaker 3: name named Miller uh at the at the party last night.
10:30
Speaker 3: So there was a success, a success story that came
10:32
Speaker 3: out of Kegs for Canines last year.
10:35
Speaker 5: Miller is such a good name for that particular event.
10:38
Speaker 3: Yeah, well it is, and Mark Mark works in the
10:40
Speaker 3: beverage industry. I think that's where the name came from.
10:43
Speaker 3: The dog. The dog's lucky. He wasn't named Corona or
10:45
Speaker 3: Cores or something, but uh uh. But anyway, my point
10:48
Speaker 3: is is that when you have these events, you know
10:50
Speaker 3: that there's always but there's great stories that go on
10:51
Speaker 3: every day. Uh with the shelter, I mean, I had
10:54
Speaker 3: so many of my friends that that choose to go
10:55
Speaker 3: that route and go get a dog or cat or
10:57
Speaker 3: whatever from from shelters, and we always encourage people to
11:01
Speaker 3: do that. All right, Angie, I know you got a
11:03
Speaker 3: lot of stuff going on, But again, I do want
11:05
Speaker 3: to hit on the event tonight, the adoptions after dark
11:07
Speaker 3: tell us about that again.
11:10
Speaker 5: So again we are going to be at the shelters
11:13
Speaker 5: twelve forty eight Greenbriar Street until ten pm tonight in
11:16
Speaker 5: case you have to work or you just we're busy
11:19
Speaker 5: throughout the day. Again ten pm tonight we will be
11:22
Speaker 5: open processing adoptions and fosters for you to come see
11:26
Speaker 5: the shelter after dark.
11:28
Speaker 3: All right, got a couple of texts here for you.
11:30
Speaker 3: One said, do you still need volunteers to take some
11:33
Speaker 3: laundry for them?
11:35
Speaker 5: So we our dryer is deciding to kind of work
11:40
Speaker 5: for us. So we've got a system going now that
11:43
Speaker 5: we can maintain the amount of laundry. I will say
11:46
Speaker 5: laundry donations are always great, but we are okay on
11:51
Speaker 5: people needing to take laundry home for us.
11:53
Speaker 3: Okay. And somebody asks if whites this is the same texture,
11:57
Speaker 3: and can whites be bleached or no, because they may
12:00
Speaker 3: be a risk of allergic reactions in some of the animals.
12:03
Speaker 5: Oh no, bleach. We love bleach at the shelter. It
12:07
Speaker 5: sanitizes and gets rid of disease for us. So we love, love,
12:11
Speaker 5: love love bleach.
12:11
Speaker 3: Okay. I know that that's one of the things that's
12:13
Speaker 3: frequently been on your wish list, is you know, from
12:16
Speaker 3: time to time you Nixon bleach. All right, Angie, will
12:18
Speaker 3: let you go and best of luck with your van.
12:20
Speaker 3: Tonight we'll talk again next week.
12:22
Speaker 5: Already sounds again. I have a good one you.
12:23
Speaker 3: As well, Angie Gilliwater from the Canal Charleston Humane Association.
12:26
Speaker 3: This week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week came
12:29
Speaker 3: in as Astray. He's a beautiful black cat. I've got
12:31
Speaker 3: his picture posted a Dave Allan Radio on Facebook and
12:33
Speaker 3: at Dave eight seventy. I'm ex his name is Officer
12:37
Speaker 3: Thickham's little if any teeth, so he's gonna have to
12:41
Speaker 3: have some wet food. That's mainly what he has to have.
12:45
Speaker 3: Very very sweet dog or cat rather. Currently a resident
12:51
Speaker 3: of the Petco penhouses. He is neutered, vaccinated and ready
12:55
Speaker 3: to go home. So if you're looking for an older cat,
12:57
Speaker 3: absolutely sweet is what Angie was telling me last night.
13:00
Speaker 3: Absolutely the sweetest cat in the world. Had a rough
13:02
Speaker 3: go of it from what we understand, and he does
13:05
Speaker 3: have to have soft food because he ain't got no
13:08
Speaker 3: teeth or he's got very few. So let's try to
13:11
Speaker 3: get to Officer Thickham's adopted the picture post of to
13:14
Speaker 3: Dave Allen Radio on Facebook or at Dave a seventy
13:17
Speaker 3: on x And we did have another text here animal
13:19
Speaker 3: related to with a huge risk of flooding all around
13:22
Speaker 3: the state over the next week. Can I ask everyone
13:23
Speaker 3: to please make preparation evacuation plans for your pets and strays.
13:27

Speaker 3: August fifteenth. Jim Strawn is here alive on the Lovey.
16:05
Speaker 3: How you doing, man?
16:06
Speaker 9: Hey, you know what, Dave, I think I'm about the
16:08
Speaker 9: best I've ever been. It's good to see you and
16:10
Speaker 9: my friend. I missed you. I've missed You're losing some weight,
16:13
Speaker 9: but I have lost weight. You know what I'm doing
16:15
Speaker 9: not rocket science. I'm walking. It's that new bad thing
16:18
Speaker 9: that we do. We put one foot in front of
16:19
Speaker 9: the should advertise that more? Yeah, yeah, yeah, No, I've
16:25
Speaker 9: been pretty I've been pretty adamant about walking. I started
16:28
Speaker 9: walking last year and I could sense that I was
16:32
Speaker 9: losing a little bit, but you know, not a lot.
16:35
Speaker 9: And I just felt good to close my fitness s
16:37
Speaker 9: ring every day. And I thought, you know what, January first,
16:39
Speaker 9: this year, I'm not a New Year's resolution guy. I
16:42
Speaker 9: just thought I would up my walking game. And I thought,
16:44
Speaker 9: I'll just try to up at maybe ten fifteen percent. Well,
16:47
Speaker 9: I'm up about thirty five percent from last year, and
16:50
Speaker 9: I walk every day since January the first. I'm averaging.
16:54
Speaker 9: I'm averaging. I don't walk this much every day, but
16:57
Speaker 9: I'm just averaging four point six miles a day, about
16:59
Speaker 9: eleven thy four hundred steps. And if you just do
17:02
Speaker 9: it every day, about sixteen pounds will mount off of
17:06
Speaker 9: you just from walking and nothing else has changed. You know,
17:09
Speaker 9: you always watch your diet, and I'm not the that's
17:12
Speaker 9: probably my least health conscious habit is nutrition because you
17:16
Speaker 9: and I, you know how we are.
17:17
Speaker 3: I like, I started eating when I was really young,
17:20
Speaker 3: and I just never got.
17:21
Speaker 9: I never got used to not right, never got used
17:23
Speaker 9: to not so. But walking is really a good thing.
17:26
Speaker 9: It helps me with my it's just my mental, my
17:30
Speaker 9: emotional my clearing of my mind. Sometimes I'm walking at
17:34
Speaker 9: nine o'clock at night. Sometimes I'm walking at six am.
17:36
Speaker 9: Sometimes I'm walking in the middle of the afternoon, just
17:39
Speaker 9: when I have an hour break. You'll see me at
17:41
Speaker 9: the mall. You'll see me walking around Capitol Street. You'll
17:43
Speaker 9: see me walking on the boulevard. I just walk, and
17:47
Speaker 9: it's really kind of it's kind of neat to watch
17:50
Speaker 9: to feel good, and I have, And now I have
17:53
Speaker 9: proof that I feel good. I think well, I feel good.
17:56
Speaker 9: Now I have proof that I'm actually my physically, I'm
17:58
Speaker 9: doing pretty good. I just my blood work back the
18:01
Speaker 9: other day, thanks to the folks at Boon Memorial. Just
18:03
Speaker 9: want to give them a little plug. We did that
18:05
Speaker 9: Senior Expo. I was on talking with you about it
18:07
Speaker 9: about three weeks ago, and I got my blood work
18:10
Speaker 9: done at the Senior Expo because I'm a senior.
18:12
Speaker 10: Dave.
18:13
Speaker 9: Well, it came back remarkably. It really it was really
18:19
Speaker 9: exciting to see the numbers of my blood work.
18:22
Speaker 3: So had me hang in there for a minute, Jimmy,
18:24
Speaker 3: because you were like, it came back really and I
18:26
Speaker 3: thought you were going to go it came back really
18:28
Speaker 3: bad or really good. I'm watching your face. Man.
18:31
Speaker 9: It was remarkably stunningly good.
18:35
Speaker 3: And I's awesome.
18:36
Speaker 9: And even my doc this week said, you know, you
18:38
Speaker 9: have the prostate and the blood and the cholesterol of
18:41
Speaker 9: a healthy forty year old. And I'm sixty five in October.
18:44
Speaker 9: So it's from walking. So I'm just really high on
18:48
Speaker 9: walking now, and I encourage everybody to get out and walk.
18:51
Speaker 9: I'll get a few steps in tonight. Here's my professional segue.
18:54
Speaker 9: I'll get a few steps in the night with the
18:55
Speaker 9: Moses Auto Group live on the Levee. I get a
18:58
Speaker 9: lot of steps in down at the levee. I bet
19:00
Speaker 9: a lot of steps in down there. But it is
19:01
Speaker 9: season twenty one, week number five. We're finally back to
19:04
Speaker 9: alive on the levee. I know we've got the regatta
19:07
Speaker 9: behind us. And then the Friday after regatta we learned
19:10
Speaker 9: years ago no sense, no, there's no sense in having
19:13
Speaker 9: a live on the levee Friday after the regatta. We're
19:15
Speaker 9: all like, no, I can't go down to the hat.
19:18
Speaker 9: I can't go down to the park again. And so
19:21
Speaker 9: it's back tonight, and we started at six o'clock down
19:24
Speaker 9: at hat ed Riverfront Park. A local Guy Cross Lanes,
19:27
Speaker 9: Guy Nathan Bess. He's a really talented singer song writer,
19:32
Speaker 9: Is that right, singer songwriter? Yeah, And he's got just
19:35
Speaker 9: kind of that unmistakable Appalachian West Virginia spirit and he
19:39
Speaker 9: kind of blends in some country, Americana, some folk, and
19:43
Speaker 9: he's got a really sensational show. He's got a couple
19:46
Speaker 9: of folks behind him, and he's just a soloist. He'll
19:49
Speaker 9: do an hour set from six to seven. So it's
19:52
Speaker 9: kind of an alternative country night, I think, is how
19:55
Speaker 9: we're maybe describing tonight, because then at seven point thirty,
19:58
Speaker 9: I'm really excited to listen to and here I haven't
20:02
Speaker 9: heard them live before. Chapel Heart. Chapel Heart will take
20:06
Speaker 9: center stage down at Hadad River Fun Park. They're a
20:09
Speaker 9: family band at a Mississippi, Mississippi, Mississippi, and they were
20:14
Speaker 9: on America Scott Talent. They soared all the way to
20:17
Speaker 9: the top five, a little Landewish sort of thing, and
20:20
Speaker 9: they didn't win it, but they were up there, made
20:22
Speaker 9: a big splash for themselves, and then they headed off
20:24
Speaker 9: to the Grand Ole Opry. They have like an electrifying
20:29
Speaker 9: twist or alternative to country. It is country, but it's
20:33
Speaker 9: a dance country. It's an alternative country. It's a fun country,
20:36
Speaker 9: it's an upbeat country. It's electrifying twist to country music
20:40
Speaker 9: is how they described it. With really an unforgettable country sound.
20:45
Speaker 9: So it's a small town but they got a big
20:47
Speaker 9: town sound. And they're going to come to Charleston, West
20:50
Speaker 9: Virginia tonight and I look forward to really what I'm
20:53
Speaker 9: considering a superstar performance by Chapel Heart. They'll do ninety
20:56
Speaker 9: minutes from seven thirty to nine, and then we're doing
21:00
Speaker 9: and the drawing for the charity at nine o'clock now
21:02
Speaker 9: instead of eight forty from years past. And we're still
21:06
Speaker 9: helping those five charities. Our CCR, Covenant House, the Sojourner
21:10
Speaker 9: Shelter tonight is the YWCA Sojourner Shelter. I do know
21:13
Speaker 9: that Man and Meal and the KVC Collective, we've raised
21:17
Speaker 9: one hundred and twenty seven thousand dollars now as I
21:20
Speaker 9: keep track of that, the last twenty plus seasons. So
21:24
Speaker 9: we're back at it. We hope we dodge the shower tonight.
21:28
Speaker 9: It looks like a shower maybe, but I don't think
21:30
Speaker 9: it's going to settle in so it might bring the
21:33
Speaker 9: humidity down a little bit. I don't know if it'll
21:35
Speaker 9: be a big boat night out on the Canal River,
21:38
Speaker 9: but it should be a nice evening weatherwise, once the
21:42
Speaker 9: shower comes and goes, even if it does come, and
21:45
Speaker 9: so come down, give it a shot, get your bite
21:48
Speaker 9: deep and enjoy, joya beverage. It's time to get your
21:51
Speaker 9: family back out to the levee there and enjoy some
21:55
Speaker 9: music after we kind of put the regatta. Man, it
21:58
Speaker 9: was a big regatta, wasn't it. It was hot, but it
22:00
Speaker 9: was a big regard. I mean a lot of fun
22:02
Speaker 9: and this. You know, we're just going to continue the summer.
22:05
Speaker 9: The summer's about half over, but boys, it going quickly.
22:09
Speaker 9: And if you've not had a chance to get down
22:11
Speaker 9: to the levee, I'm here to tell you you don't
22:14
Speaker 9: have a boatload of chances left. We're gonna we're gonna
22:17
Speaker 9: do August the first. I'll just put a little tea's
22:20
Speaker 9: out there. August the first will be the back to
22:22
Speaker 9: school night for the kid os, and so we're going
22:24
Speaker 9: to cater to the kids on back to school night.
22:27
Speaker 9: I know the city's working. There might be a makeup
22:29
Speaker 9: for one of the levees that we got rained out
22:31
Speaker 9: earlier in the year. No promises there, but just let
22:35
Speaker 9: people know. August the first will be the last regularly
22:38
Speaker 9: scheduled live levee, but we may have a bonus makeup.
22:42
Speaker 9: But we'll keep you posted right here. But in the meantime,
22:46
Speaker 9: come down tonight Nathan Best at six for sixty minutes.
22:50
Speaker 9: Chapel hearts seven thirty until nine. Come down and enjoy.
22:55
Speaker 9: It's also gonna be Bridge Valley Community and Technical College
22:58
Speaker 9: School tonight. The President, Casey Sachs, who you know yesterday
23:04
Speaker 9: I missed her yesterday. I love her to death. Casey,
23:06
Speaker 9: you're doing a great job. President Sachs will be down
23:08
Speaker 9: there tonight say a few words about Bridge Valley and
23:12
Speaker 9: they'll be there to handing out some informations to learn
23:15
Speaker 9: more about Bridge Valley tonight down at the levee. And
23:18
Speaker 9: of course our other sponsors will be down there, the
23:20
Speaker 9: Health pan and Brewer and Company, lou Wendell Marine Poker
23:24
Speaker 9: Valley has been a nice sponsor this year, and of
23:27
Speaker 9: course Dave, you always are sweet to have us on
23:29
Speaker 9: and we appreciate WBrC Media and you guys all your
23:33
Speaker 9: family of stations over here, all the sister stations. You've
23:36
Speaker 9: been great to help us promote this all year, and
23:38
Speaker 9: the city's done a heck of a job. I mean,
23:41
Speaker 9: I don't there's like four or five people that work
23:43
Speaker 9: at the city that do all this, you know that.
23:44
Speaker 9: I mean, it's unbelievable what they get done in the
23:47
Speaker 9: course of the summer and the year. So hats off
23:50
Speaker 9: to the mayor, Hats off to Matt and Ben and
23:52
Speaker 9: Jane and Miranda, Tina, and of course the public works
23:55
Speaker 9: and then the parks and wreck. But there's a handful
23:57
Speaker 9: of people that do an awful lot of work from
23:59
Speaker 9: city Hall to make our town so vibrant. You you
24:01
Speaker 9: always brag about it about you know what. I just yes,
24:04
Speaker 9: we have our challenges, but boy, I just Dave, you're great.
24:07
Speaker 9: You're such an advocate and ambassador, much like I think
24:10
Speaker 9: I like to think I am. But we love this place.
24:13
Speaker 9: I mean, it's a good place to.
24:14
Speaker 3: If I get an opportunity. After the next segment, I
24:16
Speaker 3: am going to talk about down. I was in downtown
24:18
Speaker 3: Charleston last night. We had the Mountain's Birthday party over
24:22
Speaker 3: at five Streets, and I mean there and with the
24:26
Speaker 3: bad weather. Everybody was kind of keeping an eye on
24:28
Speaker 3: in the sky. We had a major thunderstorm that rolled
24:30
Speaker 3: through six thirty seven o'clock or so last night. It
24:34
Speaker 3: was it was amazing how many people walking around in
24:37
Speaker 3: downtown Charleston last night. By the way, our good friend
24:39
Speaker 3: Marrily mcculloughugh from WWKGBC just sent me a text to
24:43
Speaker 3: remind people that it's also WWK knight.
24:45
Speaker 9: Very nice. Thank you Marrily for that. WWK will be
24:47
Speaker 9: in the house tonight. I never know who the TV
24:50
Speaker 9: sponsor is until I get down there.
24:51
Speaker 3: Yeah, I appreciate it. Wanted to make sure that I.
24:55
Speaker 9: Love working with John Faussett and Merrily and all the
24:57
Speaker 9: folks over there in Spencer now so so tonight's weather's on, Spencer.
25:01
Speaker 3: I'm gonna say that I was gonna be earlier, Spencer,
25:04
Speaker 3: Brian Christ I mean, you guys are.
25:06
Speaker 9: Throw me a solid fellas, throw me a solid night.
25:08
Speaker 3: Don't screw this up. I'm with you, thanks Merrily, But yeah,
25:13
Speaker 3: I mean downtown Charleston last night, on a Thursday night,
25:17
Speaker 3: on a stormy night, incredible, the amount of people that
25:20
Speaker 3: were in downtown Charleston last night. I mean, I was
25:22
Speaker 3: I was completely blown away by it, and I'll talk
25:26
Speaker 3: about that a little bit later on. All right, so
25:28
Speaker 3: you only after tonight, you only got one more, well
25:30
Speaker 3: one more scheduled all Moore Scarce will be back to
25:32
Speaker 3: School night, so that's gonna be really really catered to
25:35
Speaker 3: the kiddo's.
25:35
Speaker 9: There'll be lots of vendors handing out school supplies and
25:38
Speaker 9: different things and getting kids ready for school. Whether you're
25:41
Speaker 9: going to first grade, kindergartener, all the way up to college.
25:43
Speaker 9: It's going to be back to school. So that should
25:45
Speaker 9: be fun. But in the meantime, tonight should be fun.
25:48
Speaker 9: Nathan Best at six Chapel Heart at seven point thirty.
25:51
Speaker 9: Come down, get your bite, get your beverage, enjoy the music,
25:56
Speaker 9: and it's complimentary. So yeah, thanks to the City of Charleston.
26:00
Speaker 9: Thanks to you folks for coming down all summer. We'll
26:01
Speaker 9: see you tonight, all right.
26:02
Speaker 3: Thanks you about drawing Live on the Levee twenty seven
26:04
Speaker 3: minutes away from Tamaday Island showing five eighty Live is
26:07
Speaker 3: brought to you parted by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest
26:09
Speaker 3: injury law firm. Before we'll let you go, Jim, I
26:11
Speaker 3: got a little bit of time I won't ask you
26:12
Speaker 3: something else, anything else, what's next on your radar, because
26:14
Speaker 3: I know you're here talking about Live on the Levee,
26:16
Speaker 3: but you always got something going on.
26:17
Speaker 9: Well, I'm tickled to death that you asked me. I'm
26:19
Speaker 9: just going to put a bug in some people's ears
26:21
Speaker 9: for what I think is a pretty big weekend September
26:24
Speaker 9: the twentieth Mountaineers Night Out. Oh yeah, fundraiser for the
26:28
Speaker 9: West Virginia Kids Crusaders and Kids with Cancer. And we're
26:31
Speaker 9: going to also help benefit the Boberdett Center on the
26:36
Speaker 9: West Side, but we're kind of well, I'm not going
26:39
Speaker 9: to go there. We're having it's a Mountaineers tailgate party
26:44
Speaker 9: at the Red Carpet Pavilion. September the twentieth. Will be
26:47
Speaker 9: watching It's a football It's a WU football watching EXTRAVAGANCEA
26:51
Speaker 9: September twentieth, we played Kansas, the Jayhawks. We hope the
26:54
Speaker 9: kickoff is about three point thirty. We don't know when
26:56
Speaker 9: the kickoff will be, but the event will start two
26:59
Speaker 9: hours prior to the kickoff, so if it's three thirty,
27:01
Speaker 9: obviously one thirty. It's a tailgate party. We'll have pork sandwiches,
27:05
Speaker 9: and wings and beverages and you come and you just
27:08
Speaker 9: watch them Mountain near football and we have some fun
27:11
Speaker 9: in between. We have some music. Wood You will be there,
27:13
Speaker 9: Steve Z will be there, The animal will be there.
27:16
Speaker 9: You folks are helping us out again. W wwk's our
27:20
Speaker 9: TV sponsor for this, but it's just a big WVU
27:24
Speaker 9: tailgate party raising money for kids with cancer and the
27:28
Speaker 9: Bomberdett Center. That is September twentieth, and then I'll be
27:31
Speaker 9: on again to talk more about that. But then the
27:33
Speaker 9: next day a pretty big event that WVRC media is
27:37
Speaker 9: getting behind and we appreciate you guys. But Lea's Legacy,
27:40
Speaker 9: the third annual Lea's Legacy will be happening on September
27:44
Speaker 9: the twenty first. That's a Sunday. You mentioned Five Street
27:47
Speaker 9: Brewery went off the air there with me. But it's
27:49
Speaker 9: gonna be right there on Summer Street, across from the
27:51
Speaker 9: Fifth Street five Street Brewery at Slack Plaza. We'll start
27:55
Speaker 9: at five o'clock. This is the young lady Leis Strickland
27:58
Speaker 9: who was tragically killed in August of t twenty twenty two.
28:01
Speaker 9: And the parents, i mean just said, hey, you know
28:05
Speaker 9: what we're going to honor her, we're gonna remember her,
28:07
Speaker 9: we're gonna etch her legacy even deeper. And they started
28:10
Speaker 9: this thing. It's in his third year. We hope to
28:12
Speaker 9: have a thousand folks out there participating and raising money
28:15
Speaker 9: for the Leah Strickland Memorial Scholarship Fund, and they've already
28:19
Speaker 9: handed out some scholarships system high school students, student athletes
28:23
Speaker 9: who were going to go on to the next level
28:26
Speaker 9: and compete at the next level. Yours truly is honored
28:30
Speaker 9: to service to Master's ceremony. Wood he will be there
28:33
Speaker 9: spending some vibes for us. Wood he woulds and then
28:36
Speaker 9: Josh Pantry after the awards ceremony, he's going to do
28:38
Speaker 9: a little ninety to minute to two hour concert at
28:41
Speaker 9: slack Plausa. So it's a five to nine should be
28:44
Speaker 9: a fun event. Lots of great vendors, food vendors, spirited
28:48
Speaker 9: beverages vendors, and we're going to have runners from age
28:52
Speaker 9: three up to one hundred and three. And we hope
28:54
Speaker 9: that you'll get involved as well. Leah's Legacy wv dot org.
28:59
Speaker 9: Leah's Late can cewb dot org. You can go there,
29:02
Speaker 9: you can get registered. I recommend registering the whole family.
29:06
Speaker 9: And we're still looking for sponsors. So again, just like
29:10
Speaker 9: we were just talking before the levee, there's there's usually
29:13
Speaker 9: something to do in this town. Yeah, there's usually something
29:15
Speaker 9: that that's just one weekend.
29:16
Speaker 3: There's gonna be more than that. TVT going on. This
29:19
Speaker 3: much fun and of course it was just announced a
29:20
Speaker 3: couple of days ago that the Mountaineers I was at
29:22
Speaker 3: the press conference. The Mountaineers will even Deacons.
29:24
Speaker 9: We'll be playing the September December, the sixth December the
29:28
Speaker 9: sixth on a Saturday. Yeah, it should be fun.
29:31
Speaker 3: The same weekend as the football Championship that are going on.
29:34
Speaker 3: And of course everything with you know Holly Jolly Brawley
29:37
Speaker 3: at that time, and the light that selling gole all.
29:40
Speaker 3: I mean, so a lot of stuff going on.
29:42
Speaker 9: I was bragging down to City Hall, but of course
29:43
Speaker 9: we got it, you know, brag on Tim and the
29:45
Speaker 9: cv B. Between the City Hall and the CVB and
29:47
Speaker 9: the County Commission, I can't keep up with these people,
29:50
Speaker 9: and I'm trying.
29:50
Speaker 3: I got good energy and you got good numbers. I
29:52
Speaker 3: got good numbers to go with it. Sticking around at
29:55
Speaker 3: Jim Searrean, I appreciate you being here, man, I appreciate you.
29:57

Speaker 13: Com made news yesterday about an event that actually took
32:57
Speaker 13: place earlier in the month, a major major drug bus
33:01
Speaker 13: and I do want to bring it now the mayor
33:03
Speaker 13: of Hurricane Scott Edwards to talk about a mayor.
33:06
Speaker 3: Good morning, Welcome to the show.
33:08
Speaker 10: Hey, good morning to you, my friend how are you
33:09
Speaker 10: doing today?
33:10
Speaker 3: I am doing fine, all right. So Aaron Parker has
33:14
Speaker 3: the story in photos posted over wv metronews dot com.
33:16
Speaker 3: Why can you tell us about this drug bus? Mayor?
33:20
Speaker 10: Well, one of our officers, Wesley Allen, I mean, he
33:24
Speaker 10: was patrolling about seven pm one evening it was actually
33:27
Speaker 10: July the eighth, and was doing a traffic stop and
33:31
Speaker 10: guy took off and ran a little bit and did
33:34
Speaker 10: that type of thing. They caught up with them, and anyway,
33:36
Speaker 10: long story short, they noticed a bunch of drugs and
33:39
Speaker 10: drug paraphernea in the car, and fast forward to what
33:43
Speaker 10: they found, and they found thirty one grams of sentinel,
33:48
Speaker 10: plus the whole bunch of other stuff, one hundred and
33:50
Speaker 10: sixty some grams of crack cocaine, you know, four grams
33:53
Speaker 10: of oxy, some xanax, a bunch of THHC. But the
33:57
Speaker 10: big thing that stood out in my mind was that
34:00
Speaker 10: thirty one grams of sentinel.
34:01
Speaker 3: Yeah, and put that into perspective for people to know
34:04
Speaker 3: this about what that means.
34:06
Speaker 10: So thirty one grams of fentanyl is thirty one thousand
34:10
Speaker 10: milligrams a sentinel. Two milligrams of sentinel can be deadly
34:15
Speaker 10: that's where the dea two milligrams, So thirty one thousand
34:19
Speaker 10: divide about two is fifteen thousand, five hundred. So just
34:23
Speaker 10: in that one vehicle, there was enough fentinel to kill
34:26
Speaker 10: over fifteen thousand people. And that just rips through me
34:29
Speaker 10: that this that sentinel is near and in Hurrican and
34:34
Speaker 10: it kills me that it's in our country like it is.
34:37
Speaker 10: And again, we got that amount off the street, but
34:39
Speaker 10: there's so much more. I mean, and it kills people.
34:41
Speaker 10: And we've talked about this for years and I hate it.
34:44
Speaker 3: Do we have any idea? I know that it's an
34:46
Speaker 3: ongoing investigation. I don't want to do anything to jeopardize that.
34:49
Speaker 3: But do we have any any clue? Or can you
34:51
Speaker 3: say was it a local person? Was it somebody driving through?
34:54
Speaker 3: Where did it take place? I mean, I know it was,
34:57
Speaker 3: you know, within the city Hurricane.
34:58
Speaker 10: I can yeah, I can tell you it took place
35:00
Speaker 10: right at the interchange in a hurry can getting off
35:05
Speaker 10: the interstate and over to and near the McDonald's and
35:09
Speaker 10: Putnam County Bank. Other than that, it is an ongoing investigation.
35:13
Speaker 10: I can't give the other details.
35:15
Speaker 3: Yeah, I completely understand, but we don't know And when
35:17
Speaker 3: you can release that information. I'm sure that you will,
35:21
Speaker 3: because there's a lot of folks that are, you know,
35:22
Speaker 3: asking was this somebody local? Somebody driving through? But again,
35:24
Speaker 3: we don't want to do anything to jeopardize that investigation.
35:27
Speaker 3: So we'll just wait our time on that because we
35:30
Speaker 3: want to help you guys out as soon as possible.
35:32
Speaker 3: I mean, that's the thing that got me, Mayor was
35:34
Speaker 3: I first read this story. I think that you posted
35:36
Speaker 3: on social media was the amount of fentanyl? And again
35:38
Speaker 3: I'm not a drug expert many stretch of the imagination,
35:41
Speaker 3: but I talked to Sheriff Egleton, and I tell Sheriff
35:43
Speaker 3: Crawford and other police for folks on this show all
35:47
Speaker 3: the time. I mean, we're talking about enough to kill.
35:50
Speaker 3: As you said, how.
35:50
Speaker 10: Many people fifteen five hundred people?
35:54
Speaker 3: Fifteen thousand, five hundred and that is a that's a
35:56
Speaker 3: conservative estimate, and plus all the other drugs that were
36:00
Speaker 3: that were in there as well. So how did the okay,
36:03
Speaker 3: so how did the arrest happen? I mean the officer
36:06
Speaker 3: saw something suspicious. Was a traffic violation? Take us through that?
36:09
Speaker 10: Yeah, so there was a traffic violation. The guy ran
36:14
Speaker 10: not very far and I think he ended up on
36:16
Speaker 10: the dead end area over near Putnam County Bank and
36:18
Speaker 10: McDonald's and stopped and when the officer approached, they basically
36:24
Speaker 10: saw drugs and drug paraphernalia. So it's it's amazing that
36:28
Speaker 10: if you're a drug dealer that you would have stuff
36:31
Speaker 10: out like that.
36:32
Speaker 3: I mean, you know, come on, I mean, I think
36:35
Speaker 3: that guy should have been arrested just for being stupid,
36:38
Speaker 3: you know. I mean, it's like, how do.
36:39
Speaker 10: You know, I don't. I don't know if that's a
36:41
Speaker 10: state charge or not. I'll look through the charges again,
36:44
Speaker 10: and I don't think that's a state charge. But I
36:46
Speaker 10: think a lot of a lot of our law enforcement
36:48
Speaker 10: friends would would agree with you.
36:50
Speaker 3: Well, they would stay busy all the time doing that
36:51
Speaker 3: because there's a reason why. And look, I laugh about this,
36:54
Speaker 3: and I said, but I've said this all you know
36:56
Speaker 3: through the years, mayor that there's a reason why the
36:58
Speaker 3: criminals will never, never truly win because they're inherently stupid, uh,
37:03
Speaker 3: or they wouldn't be doing it to begin with. This
37:04
Speaker 3: is why that they eventually it becomes a dead end
37:08
Speaker 3: road because people who commit crimes like this are inherently stupid.
37:11
Speaker 5: Uh.
37:11
Speaker 3: And he just had it out like that. Well, you know,
37:13
Speaker 3: thank goodness that the officer chose to make that that
37:17
Speaker 3: stop on a traffic violation, because it could have gone
37:20
Speaker 3: a whole lot. I mean, they could have just said
37:21
Speaker 3: any officer could have just said, look, it's traffic violation.
37:25
Speaker 3: At the end of the day, I'm going home, and
37:26
Speaker 3: and nobody with the amount officers and the amount of
37:29
Speaker 3: hours that officer's working, probably nobody would blame them.
37:32
Speaker 10: Correct, correct, And I will tell you this is one
37:36
Speaker 10: of many. Somebody asked me yesterday, they said, Mary, are
37:38
Speaker 10: you surprised at all this? I said, not really. I
37:41
Speaker 10: mean you can you can. You could pull any any
37:43
Speaker 10: police department that does this type of interdiction and and
37:47
Speaker 10: and you know has a lot of traffic stops. They
37:50
Speaker 10: see this stuff all the time, and it doesn't surprise me.
37:54
Speaker 10: Now this is this is a lot of fen on
37:56
Speaker 10: this one. But you could pull any of them and
37:58
Speaker 10: they would they would say this thing, and it's just
38:02
Speaker 10: it doesn't end. We just have to keep it out
38:03
Speaker 10: of our country. That's that's the big thing. We've got
38:05
Speaker 10: to stop it from even entering our country, and then
38:08
Speaker 10: we can stop it from entering our state. And our city.
38:11
Speaker 3: Right on a happier note, Mayor, it's Food Truck Friday and.
38:16
Speaker 10: Hurricane it is Food Truck Friday. And it's actually it
38:19
Speaker 10: rained a little bit earlier, but the weather looks perfect.
38:22
Speaker 10: Food Truck Friday at Hurricane City Park. It's will be
38:25
Speaker 10: amazing today. It's eleven o'clock to two o'clock. And I
38:29
Speaker 10: will tell you there's no jumbo trons in Hurricane today.
38:32
Speaker 10: So bring whoever you want and come on out to
38:35
Speaker 10: Food Truck Friday and have some awesome food. But no
38:39
Speaker 10: jumbo trons here in Hurricane today. If you know what
38:41
Speaker 10: I'm saying, Yeah, I got you.
38:43
Speaker 3: I got you. We had a text here and if
38:45
Speaker 3: you can't answer it, I completely understand a text. You
38:47
Speaker 3: want to know what state was the car from?
38:48
Speaker 10: Where?
38:49
Speaker 3: Can you say that?
38:50
Speaker 10: I can't say any of that right now? Perfect?
38:52
Speaker 3: None of that perfectly understandable, all right, Mayor anything else
38:56
Speaker 3: exciting going on to the town while we got.
38:57
Speaker 15: You on here.
38:59
Speaker 10: No but kill Billy Hibachi's Sabergrace Barbecue and crash the
39:02
Speaker 10: co ice cream or at food Truck Friday.
39:04
Speaker 3: That's all you need to know.
39:05
Speaker 10: There's lots going on, Hurrican, but we'll catch you on
39:08
Speaker 10: the next one.
39:08
Speaker 3: All right. I appreciate it. Mayor, thanks a lot, my friend,
39:11
Speaker 3: have a great day as well, Mayor Scott Edwards. And again,
39:14
Speaker 3: I saw that post on social media last night and
39:17
Speaker 3: I was just like, wow, that is that is so
39:20
Speaker 3: much fentanyl. I mean, that's enough to I mean, and again,
39:24
Speaker 3: please be patient with the mayor and with the with
39:26
Speaker 3: the police officers investigating, because they're just not at a
39:29
Speaker 3: position right now where they can, uh where they can
39:33
Speaker 3: you know, put that information out there. But they're very good,
39:36
Speaker 3: very transparent there, and I'm sure that they'll get the
39:38
Speaker 3: information out there just as soon as possible. I understand.
39:41
Speaker 3: We've got a phone call. Let's go to our friend Jim.
39:44
Speaker 3: You're on the show.
39:45
Speaker 15: Good morning, sir, Good morning today.
39:49
Speaker 3: I'm doing fine.
39:50
Speaker 15: How are you all sad? I want to get a
39:54
Speaker 15: little tip about Spencer asked last night, I was watching
40:00
Speaker 15: and the weapon and progress of the storms that were
40:05
Speaker 15: coming to the area, and he said that the storms
40:10
Speaker 15: would be there in Charleston at seven o'clock. At seven
40:16
Speaker 15: o'clock there was a fright of thunder and it started raining,
40:25
Speaker 15: and I said, Maine, he was just spot on.
40:29
Speaker 3: He always is.
40:32
Speaker 15: Always always, So that's another center in the cam for
40:37
Speaker 15: w WK and Merrily and people. I don't know the
40:45
Speaker 15: MAINDA will be because have to work at the station.
40:51
Speaker 15: She's been a little bit under the weather. Will she
40:53
Speaker 15: be with you today?
40:55
Speaker 3: As of right now, the plan has to have a
40:58
Speaker 3: be back with us today at noon. She has, as
41:00
Speaker 3: you said, Jim, feeling a little under the weather, and
41:02
Speaker 3: anytime she takes off she's sick. And she has been.
41:05
Speaker 3: But as of our email exchange that I get from
41:08
Speaker 3: her at about two o'clock in the morning, I'm long
41:11
Speaker 3: in bed by that point, but I do understand that
41:14
Speaker 3: miss Baron is scheduled to be back with us today.
41:18
Speaker 15: That's great, So listen, you have.
41:22
Speaker 3: Weekend all right, Jim, you as well appreciate it. It's
41:25

Speaker 3: etye Live is Brown two part by Bridge Valley offering

41:33
Speaker 3: your company. Visit Bridge Valley dot edu. I got a
41:35
Speaker 3: lot of texts to get to this morning. Texts says
41:39
Speaker 3: heard the bird scooters went belly up. Actually I had
41:43
Speaker 3: a text to the show to the network show not
41:46
Speaker 3: long ago asking about the bird scooters here in Charleston,
41:50
Speaker 3: and from what I have been able to gather in
41:53
Speaker 3: talking to different people, and don't I don't want to
41:56
Speaker 3: put any incorrect information out there, but I believe there
41:59
Speaker 3: is a and you are called a story. They brought
42:02
Speaker 3: these scooters in Charleston, and Councilmanimic Pepper was one of
42:05
Speaker 3: the people that was really really high on this thing.
42:07
Speaker 3: Some others as well, to have these scooters that you've
42:09
Speaker 3: seen in larger city. Matter of fact, smaller cities. They
42:12
Speaker 3: even did them in Saint Albans where people could basically,
42:15
Speaker 3: you know, use them and put them back somewhere when
42:17
Speaker 3: they were done, and so on and so forth. I
42:19
Speaker 3: also got some information that that company was struggling through
42:25
Speaker 3: no fault of the City of Charleston or any of
42:27
Speaker 3: the other cities that they've utilized. And I don't want
42:29
Speaker 3: to throw the company into the bus, but I am
42:31
Speaker 3: hearing that that company had some financial issues. And that's
42:35
Speaker 3: why you haven't seen a whole lot or heard a
42:36
Speaker 3: whole lot about the scooters. Nothing that the city or
42:39
Speaker 3: anybody else did wrong, and it just had to do
42:41
Speaker 3: with the company that's over over the scooters, won't we understand?
42:47
Speaker 3: Tech says it would ease a lot of people's minds,
42:50
Speaker 3: especially parents, if Putnam officials could at least let them
42:53
Speaker 3: know it was not someone from their area, not a neighbor.
42:57
Speaker 3: But I understand about risking the investigation. Yeah, absolutely, And
43:00
Speaker 3: we don't want to do anything to do. I mean,
43:02
Speaker 3: I don't know, and I don't want to, you know,
43:06
Speaker 3: try to second guess what's going on here. But when
43:08
Speaker 3: you live in an area like that and you see
43:12
Speaker 3: somebody that gets pulled over with that amount of drugs
43:17
Speaker 3: in the vehicle, I can say it. I don't expect
43:20
Speaker 3: the mayor of the police to say it. I can
43:21
Speaker 3: say it. I'm gonna go ahead and probably guess it
43:23
Speaker 3: was from somebody from out of town because normal people.
43:27
Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not trying to get it ahead of
43:28
Speaker 3: drug dealers here, but I'm just saying, are going to
43:31
Speaker 3: be smart enough not to pack up the whole operation
43:34
Speaker 3: in a car in one night? That just kind of
43:37
Speaker 3: goes without saying, I would think, But again, criminals are
43:39
Speaker 3: inherently stupid, so who knows. But I'm sure as soon
43:43
Speaker 3: as the information is available, they'll get it out to us.
43:45
Speaker 3: Tex says, Dave Mayor Scott Edwards is great involved mayor
43:50
Speaker 3: and we're fortunate to have him as the leader of
43:51
Speaker 3: the city of Hurricane. Thanks. I would agree with that,
43:55
Speaker 3: Tex says, Hoping the mayor can find a way to
43:59
Speaker 3: know what all this getsche men are going doing riding
44:02
Speaker 3: around Hurricane on little girl's bicycles with backpacks on their backs.
44:06
Speaker 3: That's not normal behavior, I would agree. I don't know
44:10
Speaker 3: that that's exclusive to Hurricane, because you see a heck
44:12
Speaker 3: of a lot of those in Charleston, Saint Albans, Nitro
44:14
Speaker 3: Dunbar everywhere else. Grown men who are real, big tough guys,
44:19
Speaker 3: who see nothing wrong with riding around on stolen little
44:21

44:26

Speaker 3: Frank Mullins of South Charleston. He's going to be on
47:47
Speaker 3: the show on Monday to talk about it. Some people
47:49
Speaker 3: like him, some people don't. I've seen all sorts of
47:52
Speaker 3: videos that people have sent me of adding music to
47:55
Speaker 3: the roundabouts and watching people be all confused. I have
47:57
Speaker 3: not yet been on them over the weekend. I'll go
48:01
Speaker 3: try him out. But Mayor Frank Mullins is going to
48:03

48:22
Speaker 3: News Midday coming up today noon to three. I had
48:27
Speaker 3: to think what time am Amanda Baron has been under
48:30
Speaker 3: the way of the last couple of days. I do
48:31
Speaker 3: believe is going to be back with us today. Of course,
48:33
Speaker 3: it's Friday, which means we introduced you to another wonderful
48:35
Speaker 3: lunch spot or dinner spot around the state of West Virginia.
48:38
Speaker 3: Today We're going to go down to Greenbrier County, a
48:41
Speaker 3: place that I have had an opportunity to dine in
48:43
Speaker 3: a couple of times called Gym's Drive In, and we
48:46
Speaker 3: are going to put those folks into spotlight today. Yesterday,
48:49
Speaker 3: during the presser kind of took people by surprise, the
48:51
Speaker 3: White House presser yesterday afternoon actually happened while I was
48:54
Speaker 3: on the air yesterday with Metro News Midday, was announced
48:58
Speaker 3: about a medical condition having surrounding our president to Donald Trump,
49:02
Speaker 3: and doctor Clay marsh is going to join us on
49:05
Speaker 3: the show today to talk about that. Plus we'll get
49:07
Speaker 3: into some other stuff too on Metro News Midday, and
49:10
Speaker 3: of course we're always keeping eye on the weather too.
49:12
Speaker 3: We've had rain already rolling through the area this morning,
49:15
Speaker 3: and we're expecting some severe weather really over the next
49:18
Speaker 3: several days, all the way up till at least Tuesday
49:20
Speaker 3: or Wednesday. There's at least a chance of heavy rain
49:22
Speaker 3: and storms at any given time. Sow a few of
49:24
Speaker 3: those in the area last night and expected to see
49:27
Speaker 3: more meteorologists show Fitzwater. We'll join us to talk about that,
49:30
Speaker 3: and of course open Line West Virginia coming up to
49:32
Speaker 3: thirty to three Metro News Midday powered by Selango Law
49:35
Speaker 3: coming up noon to three with thirteen News in tonight
49:37
Speaker 3: live of anchor Amanda Baron and me later today. I
49:40
Speaker 3: did want to mention this real quick. By the way,
49:42
Speaker 3: thank you so much to everybody that joined us for
49:44
Speaker 3: our birthday celebration for our sister station ninety eight seven,
49:48
Speaker 3: a Mountain Wild and Wonderful Classic Rock. Due to unforeseen circumstances,
49:52
Speaker 3: we were forced at the nearly the last minute, not
49:55
Speaker 3: quite the last minute, but we were forced to move
49:58
Speaker 3: the party from our original location over to Fife Street
50:02
Speaker 3: of five Street Brewery on Summer Street. Big shout out
50:05
Speaker 3: to those folks at five Street, because when when you
50:09
Speaker 3: call a business and you say, hey, we're going to
50:12
Speaker 3: have a birthday party for a radio station, invite two
50:15
Speaker 3: or three hundred people will be there in three hours,
50:18
Speaker 3: you could imagine that they were like what, but they
50:23
Speaker 3: were very accommodated us. So big shout out to the
50:25
Speaker 3: folks at five Street because we just had a great
50:28
Speaker 3: party over there last night, celebrating the second anniversary of
50:30
Speaker 3: our sister station ninety eight seven, the Mountain Wild and
50:33
Speaker 3: Wonderful Classic Rock, which cheap plug you can hear me
50:35
Speaker 3: on every Sunday between noon and seven spending some great
50:38
Speaker 3: classic rock. But the one thing that I mentioned this
50:40
Speaker 3: early when I was talking to Jim Strawt, that I
50:43
Speaker 3: was really amazed at. You know, I went back to
50:47
Speaker 3: Tay's Valley where I lived last night. Yesterday afternoon, picked
50:50
Speaker 3: up my wife, we came back to Charleston for the
50:53
Speaker 3: event over at five Street, and I was absolutely blown
50:58
Speaker 3: away with the number of people that were in downtown
51:02
Speaker 3: Charleston last night. Now keep in mind, it's stormy weather.
51:05
Speaker 3: It's been predicted. We didn't know when we're going to
51:07
Speaker 3: have a heck of a thunderstorm. And we did have one.
51:09
Speaker 3: As Jim said, about seven o'clock last night, we had
51:11
Speaker 3: one that rolled through downtown Charleston, major, major rain there
51:14
Speaker 3: for a little bit and then it kind of cleared up.
51:16
Speaker 3: But the amount of people that were in downtown Charleston.
51:20
Speaker 3: We parked in one of the parking buildings, my wife
51:21
Speaker 3: and I did, and we walked over and had our
51:24
Speaker 3: little party there at five Street and getting shout out
51:27
Speaker 3: to those folks, but not just five Street, all of
51:30
Speaker 3: the restaurants around it, the streets of Charleston, and I
51:32
Speaker 3: think Artwalk was going on last night. They were absolutely packed.
51:37
Speaker 3: And I say that to say this, Charleston is a
51:40
Speaker 3: city that's got its issues. Every city does, every small town,
51:44
Speaker 3: every big city, they all got issues. But you hear
51:47
Speaker 3: this all the time about people trashing Charleston and saying
51:53
Speaker 3: these things about you know, it's not safe. And I've
51:55
Speaker 3: read a post of a day that somebody said there's
51:57
Speaker 3: nothing in downtown Charleston. Are you kidding me? I mean,
52:01
Speaker 3: you're gonna really say there's nothing going on in Charleston.
52:04
Speaker 3: And if it was any indicating last night was in
52:06
Speaker 3: the indication all those people as much as we would
52:09
Speaker 3: like to think, so we're not there just because of
52:11
Speaker 3: the Mountains. Party at five Street downtown Charleston last night
52:15
Speaker 3: was bustling, It was booming. There were people everywhere, the
52:18
Speaker 3: kind of people that you want downtown. So I say
52:21
Speaker 3: hats off to the people that are doing good things
52:22
Speaker 3: in Charleston. I've been a critic from time to time,
52:24
Speaker 3: but last night, man, I'm gonna tell you it was.
52:27
Speaker 3: It was booming. It's gonna be booming this weekend with
52:29
Speaker 3: a TBT over at the Colisema Convention Center as well.
52:32
Speaker 3: So we'll be checking out that action, all right. Gotta go,
52:35
Speaker 3: Ryan Nicholson, our producer, thank you so much. Thank you
52:37
Speaker 3: to Jim Strawd and Gie Gillenwater and also Mayor Scott
52:40
Speaker 3: Edwards of Hurrican See you later today on Metro News Midday.
52:43
Speaker 3: So then have fun and love somebody.
53:00
Speaker 2: I say maybe six point five that then Charleston one
53:02
Speaker 2: oh four point five Cross Lanes, w VRC Media Station.
53:07
Speaker 2: We are proud to live here too,
