Transcript
- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: for breakfast.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: All right there it is welcome and welcome and it is 636 a.m. 410 we are perfectly towards the NFL draft.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: I am Nick Kendall joined by Eric trickle.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: This is Broncos for breakfast.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: Eric, good morning to you.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's obviously kind of a weird time of year.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: Right now you're talking about four of the show.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's like
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: What's new?
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this normally we have a lot of like draft picks to talk about.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I guess we've, you know, had the shows before.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: I guess maybe not you and me, but like we had years where we didn't have first run picks and stuff, but just it feels quiet or the normal.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: I guess there's like less turnover and just changes in general to talk about with this team.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: And we are in a hurry up and wait mode for the NFL draft.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I got a person, first, I got to say you threw me off a little bit when he said it's 4 10.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like, that's not how time works.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's 636 there.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's 436 for me.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: Then I've caught the date because it's just going to fly and buy and buy.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I mean, it's definitely weird.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I remember doing the shows back, you know, 223, 222 when we didn't have those first round picks.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: And it seemed to be a lot more.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I think part of that is is like, we still had uncertainty about the coaches and the coaching changes that we did have and, you know, the schemes, what are we going to be running with teams?
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, no quarterback, right?
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: So that was always like we could always talk about quarterbacks as a fallback, which is definitely different.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: And it definitely is a,
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: bit of a pain when driving content.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, for others, not so much for me, because you know, I still have my Scott and reports that I fall back on and everything, but it's definitely tougher.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: What do you don't have that first from pick for that, even doing the Scott and reports because it completely changes what you got to do reports on.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's a lot tougher to
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: To narrow it down, so I try to only do like 50 focused on, you know, guys for the Broncos, but I mean, when you're talking about 62 and then do 4 Trump fix.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like, how are you going to run down to just 50 guys there?
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's rather difficult, but yeah, it is a it is a quiet April.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, even.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: Even compared to last year, man, I know we had the first from pick last year.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: But throughout April, we were still getting reports, not just the visits, but like some of the coaches were doing leading workouts at pro days and getting information coming out of produce and this year I haven't really seen a whole lot of that.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's been pretty quiet for the prote so it's been a tough little tough few weeks.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: Not sure if Nick's there, Nick may have frozen up on me.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm here, I hear you.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: It was me.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm here.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, you said this year.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this year.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, go ahead.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: I was in this year.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's we're not getting anything about like pro days or teams, you know, the team doing workouts at pro days or anything like that.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's it's a little less, but we do have some little bit of information coming in here there and, uh, uh, the shot at the chat for, you know, writing the article, check us out over at
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: but something that I haven't had a chance to talk about with you, Eric, was the everyone's favorite, the anonymous NFL exec coming through via the athletic and the quote about an NFL exec said take your shot about Jailin Wattel.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: It was take your shot, but you'd better know some of the flaws.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: Availability is a concern and it doesn't exactly exude toughness.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe your culture changes that.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: He opens things up and he's in his prime.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, what do you think about that?
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: Just off the cuff, Eric, a little bit of a back-handed compliment saying that maybe he's not worth it if you heard anything more about those two.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, is this a rival team coming in here, what's going on?
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm not sure, and I kind of laughed off that quote because I remember right after the trade, I actually did an article talking about this because there are a lot of people that were coming up, like, oh, he misses a lot of time.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: Not necessarily in the number of games that he plays, but the number of snaps.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: He misses a lot of snaps.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: And then going off of the total amount of, you know, the average snaps for, you know, game he's played, not taking into account the fact that won if you do the average snap count that he of,
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: for a game that he's played, he is still like 20 second most naps for a wide receiver.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like, be since he's entered the NFL.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: So he's still, yeah, he misses naps, but he's still playing a lot.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: He's still having that production that is up there outside of whatever year it was.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: He missed multiple games or, I mean, he's only missed eight games in his career and I think one that's the lot of games or something like that.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: And so like 2023 or something like that.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: it's weird and you know it's a lot of it is coming from Miami and I know that a couple of my army reporters have been talking about that a lot and you know he misses so much time and there was actually a guy who jumped off on that comment the other day and was going off about it and everybody's like he still plays the majority of snaps in games that he is.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean it's not
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: He is averaging over 70% snaps in a game, which is actually pretty good for receivers.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: Now it's just a time.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's not, I mean, he's not Jamar Chase or Justin Jefferson who are out there for 90 plus.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there's very few guys that are seeing over 80% of the snap count for at wide receiver, it's such a rotational position now.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: And then it's sure like an elite, elite guy.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I just think it's, you know, people will try to get their shots.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: And fortunately for them, it's stuff that we can talk about.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: But I think I don't know who the executive, I don't know what TV's for, I mean, there is always risk when trading for a player, especially with what Denver did, but I don't think it's because he doesn't exude toughness.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he was willing to work the middle of the field for so long there in my end, and he took some big hits as well, even work an off-of-tarry kill.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not concerned about it.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I feel like you don't really see for him like the outside.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: The catch radius, tough catchions.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I know some people have like compared him to emotional Sanders, you know, just look at for a Bronco they're like, oh, what does this kind of look like when I, you know, mainly watch the Broncos.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: And Sanders.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: Just played bigger, I guess if that makes sense, like he was able to like on the sideline or just outside that catch radius, you don't really see that as much from jail and water, but to me that doesn't make him not tough.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's just it's something that keeps him from being a no doubt, top eight receiver and it's just a tool.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't necessarily have in his bag, but I don't think it doesn't, to me it doesn't mean he's not tough.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, the flaws as well.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what do you think some of these flaws are that this guy's obviously talking about money's out again, it's the outside of the catch radio stuff is the main thing I can think of, but like they were using them is like almost a sacrificial ex sometimes and it's not really that's not his game given his body type and size so.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I think Mike McDaniel is a very good offensive mind and they have to obviously look at them.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: I am he deported is a not a good roster for the most part.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: They started to make some changes and got better on that offensive line, but as we always say on the show, Eric things change rapidly in the NFL.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: You think you have something.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, this is our strength.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: We don't need to address that and then you blink.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: And it's all of a sudden horrific.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: And we're talking about, I see what we've been there to bottle and hill operating at a high level.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: And now, where are they?
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yikes, ugly.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: So keep that in town out.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: But what do you think are some of these files that this guy could be talking about?
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: Because I mean, you traded a late first round pick in a not great draft.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: And a very friendly contract as well.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I just I think it's the, are you trading for Pucanagua who has flaws in a different way?
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: No, you didn't trade capital that would suggest you trade for that guy.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, the one I was going to talk about is it's not just a toughness outside the cat radius, it's just the cat radius of general.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's not the biggest like, and you know, it is what it is.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: You can still work with it and though next to Shawn that with some of these guys that have a little bit of a tighter cat radius, you can still, you know, work with it.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, you've seen it with Marvin Mimson, even Troy Franklin doesn't have, you know, a super extended cat radius.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that some of the issues that you look at with water are issues that you are kind of like unknowns to an extent because of what he had to deal with with the quarterback situation there in Miami with the limitations of Tua and so there's only certain you know certain routes that he really was able to run at such a high rate.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: I remember seeing the breakdown of his
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: So can you do some of those other things for you and that that's a little bit of an unknown, but the good news is those two routes are routes that, you know, Sean Peyton loves to run and loves to have in his passing and is as part of his passing offense.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: So he still can work and.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: So, I don't know, I think that he's got, what'll actually has a surprisingly well-rounded game.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you can get into the blocking, you know, he's not the best blocker out there and the world.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's tough and he tries, but in which you kind of want to see, but, you know, he's not that guy that you want out there.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: be in that lead blocker for you, but hey, guess what, that's why you have some of these other receivers to take that off.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: And as long as you don't make it, you know, predictable.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: And so I guess that would probably be the biggest weakness that I would see when talking about water and watching over his game is that you can, if you're not careful, you can easily become very predictable when he's on the field versus off the field.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, at the same time, though, because the speed element, maybe even though he's not a good blocker, you have to account for him.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: That creates spacing.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: It'd be like a good three-point shooter.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't have handles.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: He can't get to the basket, so you're a limitation there, but you're creating spacing regardless for other people.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: So again, it's all interconnected, and you didn't trade for a Justin Jefferson or a Jamar Chase capital, not suggest that, for everything you gave up.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: uh... let's say a lot of the chatted action there's another um... tidbit of information from the athletic that's you know the exact unnamed exact that i want to get into air as well uh... shilows good in here good morning out there in minnesota's air does the lasca finally get have close to eight hours of sunshine yet and i shall also ask nick when are you gonna have the moustache next i'll probably bust out the moustache uh... for the NFL draft my wife is going to be gone
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: going out of San Diego for a Bachelor at party, not great timing, single-dad, filtering the draft, but the Falcons and the Broncos don't really have too many picks, so I guess it's a good year for it, but I'll be, hope that kid is okay listening to Roger Gaddell.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: And, well, Eric, I have to admit, I'm going to toss on ESPN.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: I just did something about the nostalgia of Melkeye Prevent, last year I had to turn it off, because of the Sanders ranting and raving, but if I'm going to pick anybody,
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: on the TV there.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's most of the time it's going to be ESPN, just because I don't know, it's just, it's been a style of chaper.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know who I'll put on.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, obviously, it's a little bit difficult when, you know, we're live streaming, but I think we have to play it on, you know, very quiet playing on the backs of that way.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: I cannot at least keep up to date with it.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: As for eight hours of sunshine.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not a lot out of my cave right now.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: Chad has me locked in here.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: You guys can't see it, but I have a little makeshift beds next to me.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't think we're you're changed to.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: Listen carefully.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: You can hear the chains.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: and a bucket and like one of the hamster, like drinks, I see it out of out of the screen before the show.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: Just get there.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if you can't have a look at me, it's just fine.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: But I actually don't know if Alaska is at eight hours of sunshine, like all joking aside, I've probably been outside three times in the last three weeks.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like this, I know that absolutely kill you Nick.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: That makes me nauseous.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: This this time of year I don't get outside a whole lot and then you know it's not and it's not just work to to be fair it's also dealing with homeschool with the kid so it's you know I go and I spend my time doing it my work done and then it's immediately going to get in school work done with her and then by the time that we're done with all that the wife so men she gets when she gets on from work she doesn't really want to go anywhere.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: So it's stuff I don't get outside and I don't really look outside a whole lot like and I don't notice I'm like daylight or night what it's what I walk until if I think we're right about that point of eight hours, but I think I'm not sure.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: Man, Eric, you need to get like just build in a walk every day.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's just 10 minutes, get outside.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: Denver Luke, I know you're changed.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe just bring the bed with.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: Denver Luke, good to see you with the coffee mode.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: You got Peter Milton coming from Singapore, good to see you Peter.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: Hope you're doing well.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: I always appreciate you coming in and our guy, Quentin, called though, as well says, good morning, everyone.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: Good morning to you.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: Go ahead and if you guys can do as a favor, like, subscribe, share, I'm sure you guys definitely already are and click the thumbs up as well if you're doing this on Facebook or YouTube.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_00]: The other bit of information that came out Eric in this anonymous executive quote article from Mike Sando of the athletic who I don't think likes the Broncos.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: I know I sometimes it's like, you know, whatever, but I feel like he's like a former Seattle guy and there's just I don't know.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like he's pretty critical of Denver.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I mean, I see something from him.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, she didn't know George Peyton or the Broncos, but I digress.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: His article came out said the Broncos were actually despite Sean Peyton's quote.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: JK Dobbins was not planning according to Mike Sando.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: Denver obviously had some interest in Kenneth Walker and Travis ETN.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: Prices ballooned 14 million and 13 million years.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: Denver then bowed out.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: Broncos then pivoted to JK Dobbins, but Sando said, Broncos thought they were going to sign Travis ETN.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he was locked and loaded.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: Only to have the saints land him instead.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: And Sando said via the exec.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: that the Broncos were shocked about, I think, the context of there, pulling it from Chad's order going, the context of there is the contracted self was shocking, not that Travis CDN didn't pick Denver, but that it got to only 1 million less than Kenneth Walker up to 13 million and to see the market grow like that shocked them.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: So that's chronologically, that's how I'm stacking up the
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: Remember like what all I said about this, but this isn't new information.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: None of it is.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: We knew that, I mean, a channel is the way that he wants his name said.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: And Walker, we know that neither one of them were even planning.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: Plan A was Bree's Hall.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: And Denver was very much in on him, which is why he ended up tagged and so like Denver had a pivot off of that and they pivoted to Walker and they quickly got priced out of Walker prior to even the sort of the legal tampering period, like they knew they're going to get priced out of there.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: So all their attention turned to at that point, HN who was their number one guy, their plan A at that point, even though he was actually you know, plant C.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_01]: And from what I gathered and I think I talked about this before, they thought they had the deal locked up, they thought right, like, guess what they talked before legal tampering period.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: They thought they had that deal locked up to where they would be able to announce it not long into the legal tampering period of, hey, we're signing a China's signing with the Deborah Broncos, like they thought that was coming.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_01]: The surprise was the late, not necessarily
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: only inflated that price that 13 million.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: It was a basically a jump from from the way I understand it.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: There was about four teams there that were right in that 10 million dollar average for your price range where the brock was worth.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: And the same source sitting there and then they just sanctioned jump back in and didn't ease their way up to it.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: It was when they jump back in when they, you know, basically got wind that he wasn't going to be there.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: it was we're going to throw that 13 million at you.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: We're not going to go 11 and work our way up and negotiate and have and compete as we're just going to go get this done.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: Also there was a bit about that kind of came out that a family member of close to a mistake in New Orleans or lives in the area anyways and he kind of wanted to return home and that probably played a
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: and so there was a lot that went into it but it's not new information that Dobbins wasn't planning that it's I think that's been very clear.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he was even planned he I think there was another plan that was in there ahead of him that didn't pan out and so Denver quickly after everything else fell through they wouldn't they locked up Dobbins and they paid for it.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_01]: They ended up having to pay a little bit more than he probably would have gotten from
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: Elsewhere, or even was having discussion with other teams to make sure they lock it up and make sure he felt that love that Denver really did want him after, you know, flirting with the other running backs that they did.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I still, you know, not like infatuated with the contract of how it played out for Dobbins the two year 16 million with eight million guaranteed just given his injury history, but Sean Peyton, you know coach speak.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: I guess we'll just call it as it is, but at the owners meeting.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: He said Dobbins was a priority ahead of all others.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: Now that will anger people.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: Out of like anger's the right word, Sean, but the BS meter is going off at least.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: And he says, we know that we he has been injured and we understand that the injuries haven't been soft tissue driven.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: So he's saying that without saying, but correlating that if it was soft tissue injuries constantly, then we'd be more worried about the injury history and it coming forward, but they've just been freaking sentences.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, from a pure stats perspective, the sample size is too small to say that, you know, he's going to always get injured, but if it walks like a duck, you know, at this point with Dobbins, but again, I don't have, like, I'm not upset about him lying about it or anything, you know, he's kind of like, you know, this offseason or even before we love our wide receivers.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like anything about I don't know, we love our wide receivers and then
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: It comes out that they've been trying to trade for Jalen Waddle for over two regimes out there in Miami.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, that was the big talking point everybody coming away after the trade deadline.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: Last year, I, I'm not gonna dig up the receipts.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: I found some receipts because I was like, I trade it for one for Waddle.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's good enough and I was like, you're an idiot.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: I would never do that.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_00]: Go fuck, click on those profiles in there.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: The one thing in the praises, the loudest about adding Waddle for the first round back.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's full, it's fine.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: When you don't get it it's a good decision when you do get it their geniuses no matter what you come out on top it's hedging, but overall, um, yeah, it's obviously to me coach speak from Sean Payton and I think I think you mentioned it too, I don't think the plan was even.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: to some extent.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the contract says maybe otherwise.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: But like, do you think they would have signed ETN and Dobbins?
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: If possible, he's a priority, but it's Dobbins plus.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody, I just don't know about how the contract should set up if that even be possible.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think if they signed HN, again, that's okay.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: I can't do this.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: HN to me is the Miami running back.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: I can't.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_01]: Travis, that's more that his name is supposed to be.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was at N or something.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_01]: No, and he was doing his introductory press or a thing.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, my name is for now, Thachin.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: He made a comment about Devon Hanna with the Dolphins and how people would get a confused.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's why they never corrected it.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he and Dobbins were the play.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: I do think that after he signed with the Saints, they did, we're looking at, okay, we have our you know, plan C and or plan D and dobbins as our plan F and you know, if we get D or E and we want to bring back F and I think that was the plan just those other two
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: either agreed quickly or Denver was very late to get into it and they had already, you know, basically greed elsewhere.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: That kind of, uh, is an issue of putting all your eggs in one basket and kind of focused on one or one guy and not have any, you know, the conversation spread out.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't think.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: At the end of the channel, whatever, um, I don't think that you want that again, it was him and Dobbins.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that was over the case.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it was the case.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: You know, if they got pre-solid or kind of walker either.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: But I think after those three, the plan became Dobbins and somebody else and they just couldn't get those other things done.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's kind of a little frustrating some of those deals like how the pretty, you know, are you letting half a million dollars or one more million guaranteed keeping you from
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: adding a Brian Robinson or whoever the running back was, that went to the C-Hawks, I can't remember what it is, but it's also opportunity as well.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: So, good to see Quentin, but on the screen for a bit, just love in that hair, always do.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: Good to see Quentin, got Mark Kennedy coming up says, good morning, go Broncos, he's so nice, he says it twice.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: Good to see him, Mark, come in and we got Mark Max, coming in, good morning, everyone, good morning to you.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: Appreciate you, Keith, comes in, it says, good morning, Broncos country, coffee time, got that first sip is so amazing.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it is a very good shout out to our friends down in Hawaii, Honolulu, Lyon Coffee, for the unofficial sponsor.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_00]: For my mornings, you know, God bless you a patch shout at the Patrick.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: We'll have to have him on the show in May or June or something.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know, talk a little Broncos because I can't let that that coffee connection go away.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: He's he also.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: nicest guy.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: So shout out to you, Patrick.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm hope you're doing well.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm listening after the fact he'll be listening to the recording because it is early out there in Hawaii and not everybody's a sick event like you Eric, you don't even know what time of the day does anyway.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: Don't go outside.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess what does it matter?
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: Easy for me to say.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_00]: Peter, who will be the who will go from back up to start with this year?
- 22:52[SPEAKER_00]: just going over the roll of decks of players in my head.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_00]: The obvious one, you'd hope would be RJ Harvey.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_00]: Now, it's a split, but you haven't made that edition.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: The other one here that I think of is, oh my gosh, I just had it in a disappeared.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, somebody that something that caused some controversy with your mock traitor.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: Jada Barron potentially being the starter because one of your other cornerbacks gets moved.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think it's potentially, I think sometime before this season, McMillan or Master traded, I'd put it at 90% like gear.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: I would expect it to happen during the draft with one of those guys getting moved from the way things have sounded.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: It does sound like that.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: It is moss, but we'll obviously wait and see.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: It just depends on how they view things, with how they've gone about with,
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know, talking about Baron as a boundary corner, it just makes more sense with that, but I think the obvious answer here, save you on Jones until they do something to bring in another defensive linemen, save you on Jones is your starter out there.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's not going to be Malcolm Roach.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: I know I've seen a lot of people up by that he doesn't play that far out like he can't play that far out.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and then he was a reke.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: He also doesn't play that far out.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he could possibly use him in some obvious rundowns out there, but it's just not what he does.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: He did it at his first year and he was awful at it.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: Um, just didn't have the the abilities for it.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: The physical abilities, not the, you know, the NFL abilities that can be caught to be taught.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: It was the physical attributes that you can't teach.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: So CV on Jones.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's right now a starter.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: They put a lot of faith in him.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: Do I expect that to remain after the draft?
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: Probably not because I think that they're going to bring in a veteran, but it's obviously Jones or Baron at the very least, I mean, if you want to get technical, you can also mention Pat Brighton, he started last year on the bench, but he worked himself into basically a starter role as well, so I wasn't counting that, but you know, it's always going to be a rookie from the previous second year player and Jones or Baron that's probably it.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: I had it hit the mutant time.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: I tried to push the button and it didn't work.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_00]: I ate that, at least I didn't, you know, fart or something.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like that's that's happened before.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: David, Schlosser, in the house.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_00]: Good to see this, this is a good morning, Jensen, Broncos, country, everyone, smash the like button and appreciate you.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: Keith says, where can we find that coffee?
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: LyonCoffee.com, that's easy to find.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: Shilos says he hopes it's saving on Jones.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: Love for him to become a muley Jackson.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think you're right, Eric, to say that.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: Denver's obviously going to bring in a older veteran into your defense of Lyman or draft someone.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_00]: If you're following, I mean, not necessarily the players themselves, but the positions.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: They're doing work on into your defense of Lyman right now and maybe even potentially trading up from 62 to go get somebody as was something we talked about last week.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_00]: We said, Christian Miller, if he follows 55, you know, like him, maybe that's a conversation.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: probably one of the better one gap penetrating three technique for I, in my opinion, able.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: Players in this draft, it's a draft that's not flush with that kind of player, so that's also speaks to why he'd be available still down there, potentially.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, we'll see with Savion Jones, I do worry about his ability in early downs.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: No, you drafted him.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: You tried it up for him.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: He's physically gifted.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, you just have to see.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, the reason why I threw him mentioned him to is, I do expect them to add somebody.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't expect in the draft.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: It'd be somebody who's going to come in and be that starter.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they go that route of the veteran.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that it's, they're going to give every chance they can to Jones to have that starting job.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: And he's the veteran as that back up that rotational piece of sort of, you know, the veteran's starting and then saving on Jones.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: that's just seems to be their plan with what they want to do with the defense of flying.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously, things change, you know, you talk about a lot, that may be their plan now, but you know, so beyond Jones may not show that run defense that's needed to be that starter out there almost early downs.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_01]: And so they are kind of forced to go a different way.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that is where they ended up putting was Rika out there for just as the run defender out there for a little bit exercise if they don't get a veteran so there's a lot of obviously a lot of variables in play, but he is the guy that they want out there they want him starting.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: They want him being that top guy opposite Zach Allen on that defensive line.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: I hope so.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_00]: Man, I had.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: liked what he brought in the, at LSU just a profile in the frame, I thought, you know, developmental, get some strength on him, question will be leverage and taking on doubles and just, you know, from what we've seen, still a question, they would know better in the building than we would, but the senior bull, some of the four eye stuff that he had where he was just ripping through the lineup granted, it's the senior bull at the end of the day, but you know, you could see
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes trades just pop out, especially in the defense of line.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the get out in the swim and like the fullidity that he had, I guess as a pass for sure, too.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: It was all there.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: So he has the makeup to be that kind of expect me to be in all star pro-bull or no, but it can be a starter on a rookie contract.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_00]: That's massive surplus value.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see what happens with them.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, like to him, him and Q Robinson were my favorite two picks in last year's draft.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think we've talked about this before Eric, but I didn't go on Saturday last year because day three is a slog and I had a one year old at the time in my wife had held down the fort for two three days before that.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: So I got a busker, but I was trying to rock him and get him asleep and I'm listening to you guys on the show and I hear Q-Robbins and I'm like, gosh darn it, that was my guy.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think you and I'm like the head to show like who or your guy's neck and Q is one of my favorites in the entire draft.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, those two, the pass rushers, hopefully they'll hit and begin the surplus value in the rookie contract, even if they're rotational, that's huge.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: We got Keith coming in against us, who'd you rather keep Moss or J-Mack?
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: To me, this is such a multifaceted question.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's not, I think on the surface, Moss is more valuable because he plays the boundary.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: But with that, is he gonna bring in more return via trade?
- 29:26[SPEAKER_00]: And is he gonna cost more on that next contract?
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: And finally, the one that you already mentioned here,
- 29:33[SPEAKER_00]: I've already said what it is, but Jadai Baron is the plan boundary or a slot.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think all those factors are the key ones.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: On the surface, I think the all-things equal, moss is better, but if you cost way more, or you can bring in way more, and you like Baron better on the outside, then you'd probably rather keep J-Mac.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: Those are the three factors that stick out the most to me.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's tough and when looking at it and a as a point of view of where do I think today Baron has the best average success and trying to get him out there on the field.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: So you're not wasting that rookie contract at a valuable position.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: Then I think that is Macmillan is the best spot.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: I do have serious concerns about Baron playing on the boundary, especially with the
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: and that was an issue on college tape.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's better suited for the nickel, but you know, listen and advance Joseph Sean Peyton, George Peyton, all those guys talk about him as a boundary corner first.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like it's going to be moss and it makes sense as with that as well without those concerns with the likes looking at it from a master McMillan perspective, you have exactly what Nick said, you know, you have the contract there's a good chance that moss is going to be costs in around 20 plus million on an average for your basis and McMillan is probably costing you somewhere at 15 that most just because of how nickel corners are valued.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: primary period nickel corners not these guys I can give you insight as I've restility that are still getting 18 20 million that's not Macmillan he's a pure slot.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: But you also have the fact of the takeaways in the turnover's must hasn't really attributed a bunch of those to the defense and Mac villain has he's been de-guy for takeaways for the last couple years basically With this defense, so that also plays a factor into it.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: This is a team that they talked about it when they went after they drafted Baron they wanted more takeaways on the defense.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a point of
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: emphasis for Sean Payne to talk about at I think is end of season press or this year or the combat press or one of them to you if not both more takeaways from the defense as where they can get better something that Nick and I have gone throughout the season more takeaways the fact that in 17 games they barely beat the franchise low for takeaways in a season is an issue and it's one of those areas where the defense can get better so all those point to like milling
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: we're trying to do look ahead at the cost and the future of what you have on the roster didn't like millen makes more sense.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: So it's, as Nick said, it's not, there's no one right answer this because there's so many variables in so many different points of view that you can take with this conversation.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, we'll see what happens.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_00]: I then we probably should have talked about your mock, Eric, maybe we saved that for Monday.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_00]: I know I'd cause some, uh,
- 32:28[SPEAKER_00]: some feelings in the comments section, but that's, you know, that's, that's good.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_00]: You want that.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Thompson asked, hey friends, I've been asked, what's it, earlier, so you'd draft a player, it's never played football.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_00]: Six round.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if he's like a, I know most people would say on drafts of free aging, but like if you're looking at LeBron James level of athlete and the hit rate on six ram picks anyways, give me, I'll just take a swing on the super
- 32:57[SPEAKER_00]: incredibly low anyway.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: So, I mean, you already did that kind of with Caleb Loner, right?
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: So it depends on some of the, uh, the mental makeup, obviously the background and stuff to like, do they have the, the toughness for the grind of a football season and the preparation.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, but again, like, if it's LeBron James sitting there or somebody like that, this is like just, you know, built by great gods, as far as an athlete in the body type, then sure, weight day three,
- 33:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think he specifically asked him about who are Bernard, the the Secretary of the Secretary and Kid, who was the first for me.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: He made it onto my board even though he's never played football and I've never been able to obviously can't watch any games of his.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_01]: He is just that much of a freak athlete and with a freak build and like,
- 33:48[SPEAKER_01]: six seventh round yeah I mean when you when you look at taking athletes that you can try to develop six seventh round that's the earliest that you look at um it's obviously tough and it's it's happened before there's been a couple of those guys that have never played it down a football that's been taken with six seventh round picks and not all of them have hit very few of them actually
- 34:09[SPEAKER_01]: But that's where you look at taking a shot on those guys like that is 67th round.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: So for Denver obviously, unless they move around right now, the earliest they can do that is 246.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and they will move around.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: They will move around.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_00]: They will move around.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_00]: We got Steve and Sean Bouchy.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_00]: I can bomb coming in here.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_00]: Bouchy is the CC makes the CH sound, right?
- 34:34[SPEAKER_00]: In the time that Eck, I don't know.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_00]: Either way, good to see you, Stephen.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_00]: My wife's last name is Delbecchio, so I should probably know.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we got a Peter sing what's the trade value of Moss.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'd hope for something like pick 95 through 120.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: It could be the equivalent of that in the end.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when you, let's say that's a late four in a future five or something as well, but you're probably teams.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't necessarily want to give away capital as much, I think it's actually a,
- 35:07[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, what's the word I'm looking for?
- 35:08[SPEAKER_00]: A deficiency in the market.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_00]: If you can be one of the teams that has the cap space in those extra, you know, four, five, sixes and bring on veterans and help you a lot in the right window, but still hitting on the rookie draft fixes, the baseline of how you build a team.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_00]: Cornbread says, CAD is my answer to any question.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's talking about Chris Abram's drain.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Abram's drain has played well when he's been out there and it's a luxury the Broncos have.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: And that's another reason that Denver might be okay moving on from one of these cornerbacks, as well, raising up Chris Abramid.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think, just based on everything they've said and indicated and played Abram's drain is somebody they view as like a, you know, this plus starter, but as a rookie contract guy who's at worst, you know, cornerback four on most teams.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: He's having him there.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely makes you a little bit more comfortable of moving on from the guys you have in the heck.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it could be the same thing with an app much a quantum mill in this season.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he's like, oh my gosh, all of a sudden he's playing like the plus starter and or, you know, at least better than the rookie than we expected.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, you never know.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_00]: Look, those guys, uh, with those guys battle it out.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, Chris Saben's dream, good player.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_00]: Especially for depth corner back at a position that
- 36:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of like offensive line Eric like you want depth.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: You want to be greedy there, but you don't necessarily rotate guys.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's just you know.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_00]: if you have a lemon out there when injuries do strike, the entire bleep and thing falls apart.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_00]: As we saw with Levi Wallace to use a gun.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: Peter Middleton, possible to go up in the fourth to high third or low second.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he's talking about the moss return.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: You're not gonna get a low second for a last year of contract, Bradley Moss.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, you know, he's a good player, but the fact that you probably have turned around and pay him, it's the cost control.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_00]: years aspect that degrades his value.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_00]: Now if he played like he had last season and he was a you still have three years of control on him mid-second.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean it's like why does Devon Bailey go from a seventh round pick to a fourth you had three years of cost control left, right?
- 37:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's a huge bonus.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_00]: So it's the fact that he's just won your left on both him and J Mac that make it a harder sell you're going to get less return on the value.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: And not only that, despite corner being a valued position, it's a position that outside of a, you know, a few trades that some have marked up as more desperation type trades.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_01]: They're not getting traded for a whole lot.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, you have the Trent McDuffie trade from the Rams, but the Rams have been desperate for another corner.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: And the Rams are also one of those seems that really say we don't care about those draft takes that much give us the veteran.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
- 37:53[SPEAKER_01]: Jail and Ramsey trade also.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, was something.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: Then he had another rare trade that included like a second round pick and then another one that was that included a first like sauce gardener was the other one.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_01]: And in sauce gardener, everybody would everybody at the time said the cult's overpaid for him.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like he wasn't playing well and he would go an off of reputation in the name.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_01]: And so corner is like, in general, I mean, you're looking at for a caliber of mosses guy a cat mosses player, you're looking at a value of a late third, which isn't, you know, a great return of investment in terms of the capital used to get them, because then for traded up to get him, including a future third, so it was two third rompics, the invested in him.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not the best return of value, but he's helped with boost that return, obviously, with his play on the field.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, in my mock trapper, I think I had a fourth and a fifth for Moss and 246.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's what it was, um, which gives you that value of that late third.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think I did the calculations using the terrible trade draft value charts that are out there, uh, and it was like the value of like 88 or something like that 87.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_01]: Um, that Denver kind of got obviously if you guys have it, you guys want to check it.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_01]: You guys can't, um, so I don't think that it's a lot.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if you're trying to get up into a low second with him somewhere after that, then you are probably including fourth round picks with Moss as well to help boost that value to get back in there.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, Denver's already sitting at 60 62 and if they're going to had a 62 then 62 would be included in that trade like so it's it's stuff.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that they do it.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think I can get to the high third, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were and I would say with McMillan.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: You're probably looking at a value of probably a mid late fourth round value somewhere, you know, one 25-ish.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe a little bit later than that, just because, you know, he does play a slightly cheaper position, even though they're both corners, he plays that pure nickel corner, which just doesn't get paid as much as those boundary guys.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we'll follow that.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, cornerbacks really weird for the Broncos
- 40:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's on the table for PIX-62.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_00]: So much as people would lose their minds.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_00]: So PIX, speaking about PIX-62 air, Chad had an article.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: Here's a shout to him about a sleeper prospect.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not to us, but you know, everybody's, you know, I've seen a lot of mock drafts where it's always Mike Washington, Jonah Coleman, or Max Clare, or Eli Stowers.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, those are probably the top.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_00]: four guys right now pretty continuously for Broncos at pick 62, but safety is the position that when it's not a values spot.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_00]: I know that, but pick 62 overall, Denver with
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: have some shame some of goodness to Fanga, injury history as well as Brandon Jones, contract and injury safety is up there and when we had picked 30 there was a lot of a manual with Neil Warren and Dylan Feynman conversations to be had and now we're picking at 62 and we're still looking potentially at safety and somebody that I mean gosh I Eric I remember you probably first talking about him in our group chat
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: probably late January, being like this guy really like him, some people have him as safety too.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's built, but he can play the free safety stuff, but it's kind of like an odd body type for
- 41:23[SPEAKER_00]: sometimes with the skills, but I'm talking about AJ Halsy, safety from, I hope I said the name right, safety from LSU, and he is, God I just remember Washington at the combine and like laughing, because he is so freaking built, but he has the safety skill set.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: He's not necessarily a, I think he can, but he's not necessarily like, you know, he's not going to be playing like who is the really crazy safety of asses and athlete.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: In men worry, you know, or he's like almost like a linebacker type like what everybody wanted Isaiah Simmons to be.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of a, um, a man of worry turned out to be, um, but AJ Halsie, I was Chad Mampo, who are these other safety, are our sleepers?
- 42:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just talking about it.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: I just talked about it.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: I saved he's the need.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_00]: Keep an eye on AJ Halsie and he's one that I don't think we've had a single mock at Eric where we've taken him.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_00]: But he is very much on the short list for me.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I will say for you too, just based on how you talk about him.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I knew who Chad would be writing about this because he asked me.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, okay, okay, okay, okay.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's two, it's gonna, it's two, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it's three, it
- 42:42[SPEAKER_01]: with the, you know, some of the chatter that's gone around about, you know, some brand of Joe and stuff like manual McNeil Warren, Thineman, they seem to be very much in play at 30.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_01]: So if they were in play at 30, then I can't imagine isn't and play obviously it comes on to how they view them as a scheme fit.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: And I do see a lot of people that are seeing him at like 220 plus oh he's a box safety.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, if you say that you're telling on yourself that you haven't actually watched him because he is far less efficient as a player when he's getting closer to the line than farther away, like he's got surprisingly good range for a guy his eyes.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: Not a single high guy, but he can do the the cover to the hash mark hash stuff like you can use him in a lot of different ways so.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I'm a big fan of him and I definitely took the opportunity of getting one of my guys out there with somebody else doing a little bit of digging into him and what he can bring in everything so.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Halsey is one of those and there's been a few times when we've done mock drafts both you and I and me and Lance and I said I and it's like Halsey's there, I really want to take up like really like him with what Van Chose of does defensively even pairing him with Talon O'hoofanga with just how much he has not so much just last year, but previously has kind of used those to use his two safeties with, you know,
- 44:08[SPEAKER_01]: being, let's write word here, trying to kind of bake quarterbacks by making them guess what safety is doing what, and some of that robber stuff that he's done in the past and getting not so much as last year.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'll see you can bring that so definitely a big fan of Halsey for Denver.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_00]: All right, well, some of it's saying we're going to have to wrap it up here soon because the dog is barking outside, and that's very upsetting.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_00]: Come here.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_00]: It is okay.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: You're fine.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_00]: I guess, I mean, just kind of talking about it, Eric, can we talk about it on some of the shows, but dark horses for me.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_00]: Here fine.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: Would be the cornerbacks and the the Ed rushers.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_00]: You're potentially moving Jonah Ellis now, some of that's cute Robinson, but let's say you are absolutely
- 44:54[SPEAKER_00]: a door gave yakis or you know different kind of body type than about they've gone for but like he is main green edge setting machine.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think he really reminds me of Tulee Tulee Palotu from the Chargers, USC.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean just just a butt kicker.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_00]: Derek Moore as well on the list.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you're looking at him and he's the highest player in the board.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_00]: I have too many past pressures shut up.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_00]: No such thing.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I just I hate you.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_00]: But no, there's no such thing.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_00]: You figured out, and then we talked about it.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_00]: Tracee Mjrain has won.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_00]: Well, two years left of his contract, you might be losing on from both of Jay Mac and Moss after the season, it's not sooner.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_00]: If you absolutely love DeAngelo Ponds, if you absolutely adore, keep happening.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: Kianta Scott, you know, like who's an awesome slot, a little older, but that hasn't really stopped them from adding those guys.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_00]: They're dark horses, they're on the list.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think any, we've talked about it in any position besides probably quarterback and center just because unless they can be a guard as well, but like a peer center should be not considered at this point.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like you are at a point where you should let talent dictate not position because picking that far down and this draft, you're not guaranteed to get an instant impact starter, especially with how this draft is laid out like last year, and you'd have a pretty good chance
- 46:21[SPEAKER_00]: an instant impact guy, you have like three guys worth day to fix in this class.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_00]: I just not a good strategy to bank on that.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_00]: So just let the talent dictate.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I think edge and corner back are very much dark horses for this team because of that.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_00]: And those are the guys in the range right now.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_00]: And if they took it, I'd be like, I get it.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_00]: People will be losing their freaking minds.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_00]: We have these guys, not for long.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: Things change rapidly.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_00]: Denver's in a window.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know the best way to win a Super Bowl Eric.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_00]: knock on the door continuously.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_00]: You're in a window, not a one single shot.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't Peyton Manning, the zombie corpse of Peyton Manning at the very end.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_00]: You're hoping that this is a five to eight year run.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_00]: And there's gonna be different evolutions and iterations, draft talent.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_00]: Let it work itself out.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: Keep knocking on that door.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think the biggest eliminated for prospects as the Broncos work on getting down to there.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_01]: 100-ish man board that they're going to go into the draft with.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's obviously going to be scheme fit.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's one of the biggest things.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously medical temperatures are factor in this.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_00]: I was going to say character.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_00]: Based on what we know about the front office.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: Let me character is, you know, it's one of those final things.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's, there's, can't say for sure with Denver, but other teams, other former general managers, they've always talked about it.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_01]: It goes, we limit it by what we're looking for in terms of scheme fit and play style, then it goes the character, then it goes to medical, and then, you know, from there, we build our board after that.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_01]: So, it all goes into it, but scheme is,
- 47:54[SPEAKER_01]: Scheme is the bigger eliminator limiting factor here over position.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_01]: I guess would be the better way to put it and because I mean, as you said, basically every position it makes sense for the Broncos even.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_01]: Even center does make sense for the Broncos because of the way they have lukewarm brings contract set up because of the fact of Alex Forsyth is a lot of final year is working here.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_01]: At 62, I mean, do I think it's likely no, but do I think it's an option?
- 48:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: it's not going to be a pure center most likely it's going to be somebody who can play guard.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know about you.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think we got in Berghead much there to play garden.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_01]: Guess what, that's where he was originally for them.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_01]: Different different regime, of course.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_01]: And then he got moved inside permanently by these guys.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_01]: But we don't know, maybe you know, maybe Tray's June, the Texas A&M due to a complaint, all five spots or Brian Parker, maybe one of them.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_01]: 62 might be a little bit rich, but again, player team evaluations can differ from public.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it tastes psalntis, who a lot of people are saying that he needs to make that move to center
- 48:58[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe it's guys like that.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen I don't agree with it, but I've seen some people suggest Jake slaughter as the guy that can move to guard I think he's a peer center, but he can make sense.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's high football like you nitty gritty tough in the middle like as that as that pivot player So maybe he's the he's a guy.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_01]: So anyways, I don't think that there's any position outside of quarterback that you can just say yeah at 62 that's a no
- 49:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think there are a lot more that are likely like obviously like buying back or tight end running back those seem a lot more safety those seem a lot more likely than a center.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_01]: But if you have a guy that falls and going back to chase peasant is if he falls there maybe that is the guy that they're looking at because as you said you can't really pass up talent you got to look at this through multi year window and keep knocking on the door.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_01]: Luke one bird.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_01]: There's been a lot of questions about his play and his consistency.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he stepped up before he got hurt after he got that contract, but I mean, that was a very small sample size going from a average ish starting center slightly below average starting center to a really good center after that contract for what or games I think he played before he got hurt.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's tough to bet on that consistency.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe they are looking at that avenue of it, and especially with how much it's been on the offensive line.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly possible.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_00]: I know that we had talked a bit, we hadn't taken him yet, but after Pete Trigger's mongering, ratilage will be rocketing it up, boards here in the top 40.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_00]: We got one more in here.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_00]: Glenn, come in.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_00]: This is Good Morning, Deacon Scott, everybody Broncos Country, two weeks until the draft now, such as an exciting time, really exciting so George Payton can do, who are the sea that can also play hard.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_00]: You've mentioned a few there, Eric.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_00]: I know a lot of people like Hect from Kansas State.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure about Connor Lube, but he's one of the youngest players in the draft to also in play there.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_00]: For a non, like a more pure center type, early as I had imagined is the fourth round, but talent should dictate in the end.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_00]: But those are a few that stick out outside of the ones that Eric already mentioned.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think this is a draft more so we're sort of centered to guard.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_01]: You're looking like guys who are playing guard that can move to center.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think there's a whole lot of them who outfrupped at restily.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of these centers, I view as pure centers.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like I know I mentioned Jake Slotter,
- 51:25[SPEAKER_01]: And some have him as a guard center type player.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see it.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_01]: Sam Hect, I don't see it with him, Conor Lou.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's kind of mudied up with his evaluation because the ACL injury that he suffered.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_01]: So it's kind of tough to see it.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_01]: What we do have him, I don't see a guy like a black guard.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think you got a bunch of smaller guys.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you have Logan Jones, Parker Brailsford, and Pat Cougan, who are all little bit on the smaller side and then the Miami Center as well.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_01]: They're not guys that you can trust out at guard.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_01]: They're more scheme limited at center only pros make.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_01]: So there are not a lot of centers that can play guard in this class in my opinion.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, there's some disagreement again because Jake Slotter is one of them, but I'm not saying a lot of guys like that this year.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I will see how it plays out Parker.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_00]: There's really
- 52:25[SPEAKER_00]: Logan Jones athletic but too small to play guard in the NFL, but I'm with Max, build the trenches.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's the identity of this Broncos team and if you look across the league, I mean, I've said it on here before and I'm stealing it from, oh gosh, Kevin Clark.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think who had it it lose on the Mina Kym's podcast two years ago, but he was coding a, uh, Rams executive, talking about the trenches that everything on the perimeter, it's fine, it's fun, it's sizzle,
- 52:55[SPEAKER_00]: only if you still made along the trenches.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you're getting beat up front and this is obviously, you know, not absolute.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like there's obviously examples rare, but like where somebody goes nuts on the outside and you're getting your butt swift in the quarterback and wedger see her kill it or your defensive backs make a couple of big plays but for more or less, full ball across all levels.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_00]: If you were in fadically getting beat across the line of scrimmage or beating your opponent on the line of scrimmage, you're gonna win the game.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_00]: And the stuff on the outside, when it's close margins, you barely win, that's when it can settle.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_00]: But for the most part, it's a who's establishing their will along the line of scrimmage.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_00]: And being good in the trenches doesn't happen by accident.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_00]: It has to be a priority.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_00]: And it has to be something that you don't neglect.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_00]: And like I know, it's kind of weird for the Broncos with that, like they've invested in the defensive line of draft picks for agents, but like offensive line is weird.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_00]: You could all like the draft picks stuff and
- 53:53[SPEAKER_00]: be nice that they started to do that a little bit more and draft into the lap guys, but they've hit on their contracts in the last three or four years as well and tackles really very because you draft one and it's hopefully a 15 year hit.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that hit doesn't happen for three years down the line.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_00]: Also, can happen with offensive tackles over your position like that.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_00]: But the end of the day, quarterback defense of line offensive line, you got to be good at those three spots.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_00]: after that you build those other areas up.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_00]: Ideally, talent should dictate at the end of the day, but if all things are equal, that's where you wanna prioritize.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, just look at the last couple games, the Broncos played, the last couple games in the season, Ciax absolutely dominated and the trenches on both sides of the ball.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_01]: For the most part, I mean, the Patriots defense of front had their wins, but they still got the job done.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_01]: And the AFC championship game, the Patriots absolutely dominated the trenches on the defensive side of the ball.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_01]: Denver won on their defensive as well, but
- 54:52[SPEAKER_01]: As you said, the tiebreaker when all things are kind of equal or anything like that, the pitches just managed to make obviously other factors of play, but the Patriots managed to make that extra play needed outside of the outside the tackles on it and it gave them the win.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, the Broncos bills game, the Broncos absolutely dominated the trenches in that game.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_01]: For the most part, I mean, again.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_01]: Bills had their win dominating doesn't mean that the other team doesn't have some wins, but consistently, especially the past rush of the Broncos just was all over the place against the Josh Allen and the Bills' offensive line that they couldn't get into a rhythm with it and disrupted it.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, again, the Super Bowl, the Seahawks beat the Absolute All-Customer.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_00]: They beat the piss out of the Patriots on the offensive line.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_00]: The Patriots couldn't do anything because they were beat that thoroughly.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_01]: And, I mean, it's a trend.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, look at the Eagles, Chiefs Super Bowl.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_01]: Eagles absolutely dominated the different the trenches and bullsides of it.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_01]: Trenches are where you can win games and where you can lose games, like,
- 56:00[SPEAKER_01]: most consistently, like that's where it comes down to.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, big plays on the outside can happen.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_01]: They're a factor into it.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_01]: But if you look at majority of games, the teams that win in the trenches that not necessarily even dominate, that just win the trenches consistently, odds are they're coming out with the win in the game.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's just been a consistent trend in the NFL since the beginning of the NFL, like since the beginning of football, the trenches are
- 56:29[SPEAKER_00]: It sets the table for everything.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_00]: You could be, I mean, look at the dolphins with Tyreken, Jalen Waterle, look at the Bengals with T-Higgins and Jamar Chase.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Laude Da, good for fantasy.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's haven't dessert, but she didn't get your macros in, and you feel like bleep at the end of the day.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_00]: Get it at the moment, but not setting yourself up for success.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna get out here, guys.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's Friday.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_00]: Dog's saying it's time too.

- 57:32[SPEAKER_00]: And as Glenn said, we're two weeks away.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_00]: So even though Denver doesn't have first run pick, only one currently in the top 100, expect some ups and downs and side to side and all the fun stuff that the Broncos like to do, fly in like fair.
- 57:49[SPEAKER_00]: Moving up and down the draft board, kind of like they're flying the Millennium Falcon or something.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_00]: Eric, that that one's for you.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_00]: I see it in the background there.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_00]: So appreciate everyone.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_00]: Any final thoughts, Eric?
- 57:59[SPEAKER_01]: No, I mean, I'm...
- 58:01[SPEAKER_01]: Looking forward to it that we're within two weeks, but also I'm dreading it because I still have a lot of work to do.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_01]: I will be back tonight as well with Lance on devalued Ivers and I'm excited.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_01]: Monday, I'll be putting out my big board on Twitter.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_01]: So make sure you guys are out for that.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_01]: Couple, you know, the guys at image age got a sneak peek at of it, but I haven't heard anything from them.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_01]: So it must be the best board they've ever seen.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_00]: Heck yeah, all right guys, we'll have a good one.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_00]: Be kind, go Broncos.
