- 1:52Speaker 1: of Disguise Coverage, we're going to be diving into the
- 1:56Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills run defense versus the Baltimore Ravens in Week
- 1:59Speaker 1: one of the twenty twenty five regular season. I talked
- 2:02Speaker 1: about it a bit last week, maybe switching the episode
- 2:06Speaker 1: structure of Disguised coveraging season instead of doing more matchup
- 2:10Speaker 1: based things, looking ahead, pivoting and looking towards more schematic
- 2:14Speaker 1: and structural and player evaluation pieces from the game or
- 2:18Speaker 1: games before. So, if this is some kind this is
- 2:21Speaker 1: the kind of content you folks like, please let me
- 2:23Speaker 1: know in the chat, let me know in the comments
- 2:24Speaker 1: on YouTube. If you want me to pivot and go
- 2:27Speaker 1: back to the regular preview matchup detailed schematic structural breakdowns
- 2:32Speaker 1: for upcoming games, you know, please let me know. So
- 2:35Speaker 1: if you were trying to tune in tonight to be like, oh,
- 2:37Speaker 1: where's the in depth schematic becaus the O's matchup for
- 2:39Speaker 1: Bill's Jets not doing that? If you would like that again,
- 2:42Speaker 1: please let me know. And if you like this stuff,
- 2:44Speaker 1: let me know as well. But what we will be
- 2:45Speaker 1: doing in this episode, as I mentioned, there in the
- 2:48Speaker 1: intro and as exemplified by the title breaking down the
- 2:51Speaker 1: Bills run defense against against the Baltimore Ravens. For a
- 2:54Speaker 1: lot of it, I thought it was kind of part
- 2:59Speaker 1: for the core. Whether you view that positively or negatively.
- 3:02Speaker 1: We talked about it throughout the offseason, you know, the
- 3:06Speaker 1: changes the Bills made up front and where that helped
- 3:10Speaker 1: them versus where it may not have. And they lean
- 3:14Speaker 1: more into inside rush and penetration rather than being stout.
- 3:18Speaker 1: What does that mean? That means they have the ability
- 3:20Speaker 1: to shoot gaps, They have the ability to cause habit,
- 3:23Speaker 1: create tackles for loss, negative plays in general for an offense.
- 3:27Speaker 1: But those guys and their body types typically are a
- 3:30Speaker 1: little smaller, a little leaner, have a certain play style
- 3:33Speaker 1: or skill set or traits to them that doesn't necessarily
- 3:36Speaker 1: lend itself towards being able to an anchor versus double teams,
- 3:39Speaker 1: mitigate displacement, not get blown off the ball. And we
- 3:42Speaker 1: saw some of that on the interior defensive line against
- 3:44Speaker 1: the Ravens. We also saw some you know, some poor
- 3:47Speaker 1: runfits from a gap perspective, you know, multiple guys in
- 3:50Speaker 1: the same gap and just a lot of ugliness but
- 3:54Speaker 1: we also saw some good at the same time. So
- 3:57Speaker 1: I wanted to get into that in this game because
- 4:00Speaker 1: it was such a talking point coming out of it.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I think it would be obviously an even bigger talking
- 4:03Speaker 1: point had the Bills lost. You know, winning seems to
- 4:06Speaker 1: you know, the old adage winning cures all, and the
- 4:08Speaker 1: Bills won this game, and I think for a lot
- 4:10Speaker 1: of fans it is you know, potentially, hey, it's one
- 4:13Speaker 1: to zer. Let's fix the bad stuff, but let's maybe
- 4:15Speaker 1: focus on the good a little more than the bad.
- 4:17Speaker 1: But this is something that I'm pretty passionate about. I've
- 4:20Speaker 1: spoken about it all off season and just with how
- 4:22Speaker 1: the game kind of went again according to plan for
- 4:25Speaker 1: what I thought for how the Bills run defense would perform,
- 4:28Speaker 1: I wanted to talk about it in this episode and
- 4:30Speaker 1: break some of it down. And I think also within
- 4:33Speaker 1: that as well, I do want to preface this whole
- 4:36Speaker 1: episode by saying, run fits, and I've said it on
- 4:39Speaker 1: the show a bunch. I've said in the film room,
- 4:41Speaker 1: you know, I've asked players this question when Eric and
- 4:45Speaker 1: I have had them in the film room. Run fits
- 4:48Speaker 1: are scientific. It is a very coordinated dance amongst everyone
- 4:53Speaker 1: on the entire defense. It takes every single person doing
- 4:57Speaker 1: their job and executing. Not everyone's job is to go
- 5:00Speaker 1: go in and make the tackle. You've got forced players,
- 5:02Speaker 1: you've got, spill players, you've got There's just a multitude
- 5:05Speaker 1: of roles, assignments. Responsibilities are how you're fitting the run
- 5:08Speaker 1: from a two high structure versus a single high, you know,
- 5:11Speaker 1: the type of front that you have, and one gapping
- 5:14Speaker 1: versus gap and a half versus two gapping, and there's more.
- 5:18Speaker 1: There's more things even there. I can just keep rattling off,
- 5:20Speaker 1: like terms of techniques and terminology and verbiage and all
- 5:22Speaker 1: that breaking down the science of run fits really does
- 5:26Speaker 1: deserve its own full episode that could probably be like
- 5:29Speaker 1: a forty five minute to like hour and fifteen long
- 5:32Speaker 1: episode just on how run fits and how they work
- 5:37Speaker 1: from the multitude of alignments, how coverage fits into that,
- 5:41Speaker 1: how coverage dictates the run fit box numbers, neutral box,
- 5:44Speaker 1: light box, stack box, seven man, spacing eight man, all
- 5:47Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. We're going to get into some
- 5:49Speaker 1: of that in this episode tonight, because I do think
- 5:52Speaker 1: it puts things into perspective for why we saw what
- 5:54Speaker 1: we saw, how things played out, you know, the how is,
- 5:57Speaker 1: the whys, the what's all that kind of stuff, But
- 6:01Speaker 1: I do think it deserves a further deep dive. Maybe
- 6:03Speaker 1: that's something we'll get into in season, maybe in a
- 6:05Speaker 1: bye week, maybe in the off season. But I am
- 6:08Speaker 1: going to get into some of that throughout this episode
- 6:10Speaker 1: while also kind of breaking down what we're seeing, players' roles, responsibilities,
- 6:15Speaker 1: kind of what went wrong, what went right, all that
- 6:17Speaker 1: kind of stuff. So this will be a very heavy
- 6:19Speaker 1: film episode diving into this. Myself and Eric will obviously
- 6:22Speaker 1: be doing the film room tomorrow Wednesday, September tenth. We're
- 6:24Speaker 1: gonna focusing more on the offensive side of the ball
- 6:26Speaker 1: there in the film room, so I figured do some
- 6:28Speaker 1: defensive stuff here. Eric did a film room feature on
- 6:31Speaker 1: Ed Oliver. I wanted to focus on the run defense
- 6:34Speaker 1: here in this guy's coverage, and then Eric and I
- 6:35Speaker 1: will be doing a full offensive film room tomorrow in
- 6:39Speaker 1: the film room. As always, questions, thoughts, comments, concerns put
- 6:43Speaker 1: them into the chat. We have a pretty decent sized
- 6:47Speaker 1: amount of plays to go through in this game. I
- 6:49Speaker 1: grabbed thirteen that I thought were pretty representative positively and
- 6:54Speaker 1: negatively for what I wanted to talk about tonight in
- 6:56Speaker 1: this episode, but as I'm going through, because this is
- 6:59Speaker 1: like a heavy film based episode, if I miss someone's comment,
- 7:02Speaker 1: if I miss your question, your thought, your comment, please
- 7:06Speaker 1: do forgive me. I'm gonna be looking on this screen
- 7:08Speaker 1: over here, diagramming and pulling things up over here, so
- 7:10Speaker 1: if I do miss something, I sincerely apologize. I will
- 7:13Speaker 1: be trying to get through as many things possible humanly
- 7:16Speaker 1: possible as I possibly can. Would grab some comments here
- 7:20Speaker 1: before we start. Just to the canoe says Edmunds needs
- 7:24Speaker 1: to make more splash plays. I like that. R J
- 7:27Speaker 1: says the best comeback as a Bills fan since I
- 7:30Speaker 1: was as a kid watching the greatest comeback game in
- 7:32Speaker 1: the nineties. Very fair, very fair. Like it's comment all
- 7:36Speaker 1: the blueberries in my kingdom for a Zion Low call up.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I don't think it's gonna happen, but I respect that
- 7:41Speaker 1: you want that and keep going through with that. Kevin says,
- 7:44Speaker 1: was Leslie Fraser that good? I think Leslie Fraser is
- 7:46Speaker 1: a good coach. I think he got a bit of
- 7:47Speaker 1: a bad rap, but you did see some similar struggles
- 7:52Speaker 1: that they have now versus what they did then. But
- 7:54Speaker 1: I mean he was a very well traveled and seasoned coach.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I think he was a good coach who just kind
- 7:58Speaker 1: of unfortunately got associated with bad performance at the end.
- 8:01Speaker 1: More so than anything, I'm glad the comment. I'm glad
- 8:06Speaker 1: we don't have to play the Ravens sixteen more times. Kayomury,
- 8:08Speaker 1: what's up? Kayamury? Kay Amory says, an already questionable on
- 8:12Speaker 1: paper defense getting predictably shredded. Maybe isn't as bad as
- 8:15Speaker 1: Baltimore's supposed to stack defense being shredded. Shrug emoji. Maybe
- 8:20Speaker 1: it's cope. Yeah, I think you gotta play Devil's advocate
- 8:22Speaker 1: to either side of that. I do think too, there
- 8:24Speaker 1: are some not to play this card. But I mean
- 8:26Speaker 1: the tip ball from Keon Coleman, or the tip ball
- 8:29Speaker 1: touchdown to Keyon Coleman, the fumble by Henry. Maybe that
- 8:33Speaker 1: game ends differently and the Bills only do put up
- 8:35Speaker 1: twenty five points if those like two huge momentum turning
- 8:39Speaker 1: plays don't happen. But yeah, not definitely not a good performance,
- 8:42Speaker 1: especially with how they started out and kind of just
- 8:44Speaker 1: faded and faltered at the end. Bullish Bill Lebille says,
- 8:50Speaker 1: what is everyone's calling that? Bishop Blitz play. I think
- 8:52Speaker 1: it was blown play calling. I do want to talk
- 8:54Speaker 1: about this quickly. Actually what I don't because I'm annoyed
- 8:57Speaker 1: by it, But I will because it's a good question.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Cold Bishop play Essentially what happened. I don't have that
- 9:02Speaker 1: play to break down here. I posted on social I
- 9:05Speaker 1: saw a bunch of comments on it. The Bills get caught.
- 9:10Speaker 1: They get quit counted, so before they can get set.
- 9:12Speaker 1: The defensive line isn't even in their stances, like Joey
- 9:15Speaker 1: Bosa is about to put his hand into the ground,
- 9:17Speaker 1: so is at Oliver. The Ravens quick count like, they
- 9:19Speaker 1: snap it before the Bills defense is ready. On the
- 9:22Speaker 1: back end, I'm guessing they probably wanted to get into
- 9:24Speaker 1: a disguise. The Bills loves the disguise coverage. They hold
- 9:27Speaker 1: one look right on the snap and then spin their safeties.
- 9:30Speaker 1: They switch. They like to change the predpost snap picture
- 9:33Speaker 1: on the back end from a coverage shell and coverage standpoint.
- 9:37Speaker 1: What happened was not just Bishop but everybody in the defense.
- 9:39Speaker 1: They quick snap, Ravens quick snap. The Bills aren't ready.
- 9:43Speaker 1: They kind of get caught out. Cole Bishop is super
- 9:45Speaker 1: super deep miles away from the ball, he's supposed to blitz,
- 9:49Speaker 1: he blitzes anyway, doesn't come close to getting Lamar. It's
- 9:52Speaker 1: a big completion for the Ravens. I saw a lot
- 9:54Speaker 1: of comments on the play of if he was smarter,
- 9:59Speaker 1: he would have done something different. He should have just
- 10:02Speaker 1: went rogue, he should have ad libbed. Literally, those are
- 10:05Speaker 1: all like different verbiage and recommendations that were said for
- 10:08Speaker 1: the play when I posted on social and I want
- 10:11Speaker 1: to say a couple things with that one. In Sean
- 10:13Speaker 1: mcdermot's defense, you don't go rogue like that. He predicates
- 10:17Speaker 1: his defense on you on all the players being responsible
- 10:21Speaker 1: and being where your teammates expect them to be. He
- 10:24Speaker 1: wants if he wants you to be in spot A,
- 10:26Speaker 1: you need to be in spot A. You do not
- 10:28Speaker 1: go rogue. First and foremost do guys do it from
- 10:31Speaker 1: time to time, sure, but not with regularity. Second, within that,
- 10:37Speaker 1: in this specific instance, if Cole Bishop is blitzing and
- 10:41Speaker 1: they quit count him, and he goes to blitz and
- 10:43Speaker 1: he's like, uh, oh this isn't gonna work, you really
- 10:46Speaker 1: still do need to carry through with your assignment. You
- 10:48Speaker 1: can't just be like, oh, I don't think the blitz
- 10:50Speaker 1: is gonna work. Let me drop off into coverage and
- 10:52Speaker 1: do something else. You can't have guys go and rogue
- 10:56Speaker 1: and just kind of freelancing and freestyling because you know,
- 10:59Speaker 1: I don't don't think this play call is gonna work.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Let me go do something else. That's a rough precedent descent,
- 11:05Speaker 1: And it's not ideal because if you do that and
- 11:09Speaker 1: you're not where you're supposed to be, are other guys
- 11:12Speaker 1: trying to read off you? Even just that Like I
- 11:14Speaker 1: saw people saying, well, he shouldn't blitz, he should just
- 11:16Speaker 1: sit and stay in coverage. Are you But are you
- 11:19Speaker 1: still expecting someone else to read that coverage that he's doing?
- 11:23Speaker 1: Are they? How much confusion does it cause? It just
- 11:26Speaker 1: it sets a potential negative chain reaction going through. And
- 11:30Speaker 1: then the other comment within that of if he was smarter,
- 11:33Speaker 1: if he was like Hide or Poyer, he could have
- 11:35Speaker 1: just gone row, he could have done something else. I
- 11:39Speaker 1: think that whole like going rogue aspect, or you know,
- 11:42Speaker 1: after the snap or on the snap, realizing something's not
- 11:44Speaker 1: gonna work and freelancing and doing something else. That gets
- 11:47Speaker 1: blown out of proportion of how much that happens. Even
- 11:50Speaker 1: the best guys like Ed Reed and Troy Palamalu as
- 11:52Speaker 1: safeties who freelanced a bunch quote unquote, those weren't so
- 11:56Speaker 1: much like freelances and going rogue as it was them
- 12:00Speaker 1: making educated guesses off of their feel for the game
- 12:03Speaker 1: and all of the tape study. So it might look like, oh, man,
- 12:07Speaker 1: you know, he blew coverage to go make a play,
- 12:08Speaker 1: But it's something they read, it's something they studied, it's
- 12:10Speaker 1: something they felt and being active and going to it.
- 12:13Speaker 1: That's completely different than hey, I'm supposed to blitz on
- 12:17Speaker 1: this play. Uh oh, I think I'm too far away.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Let me not blitz and drop into coverage. And then
- 12:22Speaker 1: you're also assuming too, like he drops in the right
- 12:24Speaker 1: spot is able to affect the throw in some way.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I wanted to say all that just because I know
- 12:30Speaker 1: it's been talked about to death on social but essentially, yeah,
- 12:35Speaker 1: they call the play. The Bills weren't ready because the
- 12:38Speaker 1: Ravens quick snapped them. The Ravens varied their cadence and
- 12:41Speaker 1: their snap counts throughout the night, including on the very
- 12:43Speaker 1: first play of the game, which we are going to
- 12:45Speaker 1: show here tonight, trying to catch the Bills out. They
- 12:47Speaker 1: did from time to time, and on that one, Yeah,
- 12:51Speaker 1: if you watch it again, I put it on my Twitter.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I put it on Blue Sky. If you see it
- 12:55Speaker 1: somewhere else, just you watch the defensive line if that's
- 12:58Speaker 1: the easiest thing. A bunch of momret' set, like Joey
- 13:01Speaker 1: Bosa is literally kind of getting set and going to
- 13:03Speaker 1: put his hand to the ground, and it's like oh.
- 13:04Speaker 1: And then you can even watch Bishop. When Bishop goes,
- 13:07Speaker 1: you can literally like body language, watch him be like
- 13:10Speaker 1: oh like oh sahi t like you can watch him
- 13:13Speaker 1: be like, oh like, I gotta go because they just
- 13:15Speaker 1: they weren't ready. They got quick counted. It is what
- 13:18Speaker 1: it is. And then again, you're not gonna go rogue,
- 13:21Speaker 1: Like if there's a play call and you're not just
- 13:24Speaker 1: gonna be like, uh oh, I don't you know and
- 13:25Speaker 1: the snap happens on the snap, you're not gonna be
- 13:27Speaker 1: I don't think this play call is gonna work. Let
- 13:29Speaker 1: me go do something else. That's just not how that's
- 13:32Speaker 1: just not how it works. Les Brown says, or he
- 13:35Speaker 1: could be in position to blitz when it's called, sure,
- 13:38Speaker 1: but if you're trying to disguise the look pre snap,
- 13:42Speaker 1: you don't necessarily want to do that the Bills. And
- 13:44Speaker 1: this isn't just a Bills thing. This is a lot
- 13:46Speaker 1: of NFL defenses. Now. They're trying to disguise covers. They're
- 13:50Speaker 1: trying to disguise their front. So you're trying to show
- 13:52Speaker 1: one thing and then on the snap pivot or spin
- 13:55Speaker 1: to something else. So you're showing A to make the
- 13:57Speaker 1: offense think A is coming, and then on the snap
- 14:00Speaker 1: you're gonna shift a B or C or D or
- 14:02Speaker 1: some other letter. So the Bills, I think we're trying
- 14:04Speaker 1: to disguise what they were doing, trying to hold it
- 14:07Speaker 1: until the snap and then execute on the snap. But
- 14:13Speaker 1: the ball got snapped before they could do anything. So
- 14:15Speaker 1: essentially the call was what the call was, I don't
- 14:18Speaker 1: think Bishop, you know. And let me also say this,
- 14:22Speaker 1: maybe there is a chance just to play Devil's advocate.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Because I'm not in the huddle, I don't know the
- 14:26Speaker 1: play call. I don't have the playbook, but maybe he
- 14:29Speaker 1: is supposed to be closer to the line already, or
- 14:31Speaker 1: closer to the box. Maybe he was too deep. But
- 14:33Speaker 1: what it looks like was was happening. They were trying
- 14:36Speaker 1: to disguise the look. Bring Bishop on the snap shift
- 14:39Speaker 1: Taylor rap over to the post. They wanted to disguise
- 14:42Speaker 1: the pressure look that they brought. In order to disguise that,
- 14:45Speaker 1: you have to show one thing, hold that look as
- 14:48Speaker 1: long as possible until the snap, and then spin to
- 14:52Speaker 1: the actual thing that you're gonna do on the snap,
- 14:54Speaker 1: so that way you confuse the offense or try to
- 14:57Speaker 1: change the pre to post snap picture. I don't think
- 14:59Speaker 1: it was on Bishop as much as it was the Ravens.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Just caught the bills like that, That's what it was,
- 15:03Speaker 1: and you just tip your cap. Hey, good job with
- 15:05Speaker 1: the quick count you got us. I don't think Bishup
- 15:08Speaker 1: was necessarily out of position. I don't think he should
- 15:10Speaker 1: have done something different on the snap. He got caught out,
- 15:13Speaker 1: so did the whole defense. But essentially it was a
- 15:16Speaker 1: quick snap. But good question. And Pete says a safety
- 15:18Speaker 1: blitz is going nowhere without a disguise. Very fair point.
- 15:23Speaker 1: James says Belichick feared ed read more than hornfrogs. I
- 15:26Speaker 1: like it. Yeah, fair, Okay, let's dive into the tape again.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I sincerely apologize ahead of time. If I don't see
- 15:37Speaker 1: certain comments, put them into the YouTube comments after I
- 15:40Speaker 1: will get to them, get at me on social get
- 15:42Speaker 1: at me in the discord. If you're an insider, whatever
- 15:45Speaker 1: it is, I know, with me being in the tape
- 15:47Speaker 1: and drawing through things and wanting to get through this
- 15:50Speaker 1: decently fast and efficiently without being here for an hour
- 15:53Speaker 1: and forty five minutes, there's that means there's a chance
- 15:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna miss some comments or thoughts in the chat.
- 15:59Speaker 1: So apologies if that happens, but let us share. Also,
- 16:04Speaker 1: if anybody's watching post live, the NFL is being super
- 16:08Speaker 1: awesome with digging a bunch of film footage and clips,
- 16:12Speaker 1: So if I get ding, there's a chance I might
- 16:16Speaker 1: like fight the ding, and or if they're small, I
- 16:18Speaker 1: might clip out some small segments to edit it to
- 16:21Speaker 1: be in alignment with copyright infringement, even though there is
- 16:25Speaker 1: no copyright infringement here because it is being used for
- 16:27Speaker 1: educational purposes. But if you're watching post live and you
- 16:30Speaker 1: see like, oh, that look like it jumped five seconds
- 16:32Speaker 1: or three seconds, that might be why annoying and not ideal,
- 16:36Speaker 1: but such as life. All right, let's dive into the tape.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna be showing a lot of these plays from
- 16:43Speaker 1: the sideline angle. Make this go full screen there, I'm
- 16:48Speaker 1: gonna take of the banner, okay, So I'm gonna be
- 16:52Speaker 1: showing a lot of these from the sideline angle and
- 16:54Speaker 1: then from the end zone angle, highlighting or circling certain players,
- 16:57Speaker 1: certain elements, certain aspects of what we're seeing on the screen.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Here also for reference, if we want some stats, the
- 17:05Speaker 1: Bills run defense in week one, twenty ninth and EPA
- 17:08Speaker 1: per rush, thirtieth in yards before contact per rush, thirty
- 17:12Speaker 1: second in yards after contact per rush, last and runs
- 17:16Speaker 1: of ten or more yards allowed last again or thirty
- 17:19Speaker 1: second in rush yards per play, eleventh in stuff right,
- 17:22Speaker 1: which are runs of zero or less, thirty first in
- 17:25Speaker 1: rush yards over expected. The Bills identity as a defense
- 17:29Speaker 1: it showed in this game again inside rush and penetration
- 17:32Speaker 1: over being stout. They'll get pushed around or displaced or
- 17:35Speaker 1: blown off the ball from time to time, but they
- 17:37Speaker 1: also will create negative plays for an offense. This play
- 17:41Speaker 1: we're going to go to here. This is the very
- 17:42Speaker 1: first play of the game for the Baltimore Ravens offense.
- 17:44Speaker 1: It is the first quarter, the eleven minute and fourteen
- 17:47Speaker 1: second mark. As I have noted up there, the Ravens
- 17:50Speaker 1: are gonna quick snap the Bills here, and so it's
- 17:53Speaker 1: quick snap on first and ten. The Ravens get a
- 17:58Speaker 1: I think I typed that, and I'm just gonna do
- 17:59Speaker 1: because it's going to annoy the hell on me. Six
- 18:01Speaker 1: yard gain. I know it's not a crazy difference, but
- 18:02Speaker 1: that's gonna annoy the hell on me. I want to
- 18:04Speaker 1: show the sideline angle to show some of the displacement
- 18:07Speaker 1: that happens. I highlighted. I know Boss caught in there,
- 18:10Speaker 1: but it's really Ed Oliver here in Daikwon Jones here.
- 18:13Speaker 1: As we get to the snap, watch the quick snap boom.
- 18:16Speaker 1: See again, Bills are just getting set. Ravens quick snap.
- 18:20Speaker 1: It more significant than the Bishop Blitz one. But nonetheless,
- 18:23Speaker 1: here's Daikuon, Here's Ed Oliver. These are two of the
- 18:25Speaker 1: main guys that want to call it on this one.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Just watch Daiquon unfortunately get displaced. When I talk about displaced,
- 18:31Speaker 1: I mean getting blown off the ball. Could happen side
- 18:33Speaker 1: to side horizontally, but a lot of times it's vertically.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Just watch him get driven downfield. It's getting knocked off
- 18:40Speaker 1: the ball. I hate showing it, but you know, so
- 18:43Speaker 1: the balls at what the thirty one yard line. He
- 18:48Speaker 1: gets knocked back to you know, the thirty four, so
- 18:53Speaker 1: he gets knocked back three yards his heels, you know
- 18:56Speaker 1: at the thirty five, so almost four yards, gets driven
- 18:59Speaker 1: off the ball. Just talking about this placement. Ed Oliver
- 19:03Speaker 1: makes a really good play. Got them both highlighted. There,
- 19:07Speaker 1: want to highlight Ed Oliver boom Ed gets set here
- 19:10Speaker 1: is mister Ed Oliver. Watch the play that he makes
- 19:14Speaker 1: here zone run for the Ravens. He's in his gap.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Watch him get his eyes in the backfield. We got
- 19:22Speaker 1: that looking around. Ed had a really good game against Baltimore.
- 19:26Speaker 1: But you see Ed reading it. He's in his gap.
- 19:28Speaker 1: He peeks, he sees that. Henry puts his foot in
- 19:30Speaker 1: the ground, gets north and south, slams on the brakes,
- 19:33Speaker 1: spins out of the block, makes a tackle. Really nice
- 19:37Speaker 1: play from Ed Oliver. Now what I want to highlight
- 19:40Speaker 1: two on this one. It's just a good one because
- 19:43Speaker 1: I have the formation. Is I want to talk about
- 19:45Speaker 1: numbers in the box versus gaps. So if you notice
- 19:50Speaker 1: here numbers in the box of the Bills one two, three, four,
- 19:55Speaker 1: five six seven blockers for the Ravens one two three
- 20:02Speaker 1: four center, which is five six seven, So you've got
- 20:08Speaker 1: one two, three, four, five six seven blockers for seven defenders.
- 20:12Speaker 1: That is a neutral box. But from a defensive standpoint,
- 20:16Speaker 1: if you are looking at this, you have a hat
- 20:20Speaker 1: on a hat. You've got even numbers. You've got seven
- 20:22Speaker 1: defenders for seven blockers, but there's one more gap then
- 20:27Speaker 1: there are defenders. So you have a hat on a hat,
- 20:32Speaker 1: but you're short a man for the gaps. And that
- 20:34Speaker 1: means you need to cancel gaps or blockers. You need
- 20:37Speaker 1: to steal gaps. You need to have someone or multiple
- 20:40Speaker 1: someone's win in the box or up front. Something has
- 20:43Speaker 1: to happen to change the math. And when I talk
- 20:47Speaker 1: about the gap piece, so again seven blockers, however many
- 20:51Speaker 1: blockers you have, there's always one more gap than blockers
- 20:55Speaker 1: you have. So again for the Ravens, one two, three, four,
- 20:59Speaker 1: five six, seven blockers. But that means there's one two, three, four, five, six,
- 21:10Speaker 1: seven eight gaps. So if there's six blockers, there's seven gaps.
- 21:14Speaker 1: If there's seven blockers, there's eight gaps. If there's eight blockers,
- 21:16Speaker 1: there's nine gaps, so on and so forth. So in
- 21:19Speaker 1: order to truly have a man for every gap, the
- 21:23Speaker 1: Bills would need to have eight defenders in the box.
- 21:25Speaker 1: That's where you know, if you have seven in the box,
- 21:28Speaker 1: you might have a safety in the runfit. And this
- 21:30Speaker 1: ties into your spacing, your front, your coverage structure. Obviously,
- 21:35Speaker 1: if you're in a single high coverage, you've got a
- 21:37Speaker 1: safety down in the box. That means they can readily
- 21:39Speaker 1: be available for the run fit as opposed to fitting
- 21:42Speaker 1: it from a two high structure. Depending on what type
- 21:45Speaker 1: of nickel corner that you have. The Bills have a
- 21:47Speaker 1: very good run playing nickel corner and Taron Johnson, but
- 21:50Speaker 1: depending on what kind of nickel corner you have or
- 21:54Speaker 1: kind of formation the offense is, and sometimes the nickel
- 21:56Speaker 1: corner won't be in the run fit. Sometimes it's the
- 21:59Speaker 1: boundary safety, sometimes it is the nickel corner. That's what
- 22:02Speaker 1: I talk about, like runfits really needing their own full
- 22:05Speaker 1: episode because there's a huge science of it. But I
- 22:09Speaker 1: wanted to use this play to set the basis for
- 22:12Speaker 1: this episode. We're going to talk a lot about box counts, gaps,
- 22:15Speaker 1: guys and gaps, so on and so forth. But the
- 22:17Speaker 1: basics of it is, even if you have as many
- 22:20Speaker 1: defenders as the offense has blockers, that's not necessarily a win.
- 22:24Speaker 1: From a math perspective, you're still short a gap. You
- 22:27Speaker 1: could have seven defenders for seven blockers. That means you
- 22:29Speaker 1: got a hat on a hat, but that means you
- 22:32Speaker 1: have seven defenders for eight gaps. So you have to
- 22:34Speaker 1: change the math somehow. And that's not even getting into angles,
- 22:37Speaker 1: run concepts, all that kind of stuff, which is a
- 22:40Speaker 1: whole other conversation. But from this end zone angle, I'll
- 22:43Speaker 1: run it one more time again. I want to use
- 22:44Speaker 1: this play because it's pretty cut and dry from an
- 22:47Speaker 1: example standpoint and from the run scheme. So watch Daikwon
- 22:51Speaker 1: just gets driven down. But this is a good play
- 22:53Speaker 1: by Ed. He's in his gap again, really good play
- 22:55Speaker 1: from Ed Oliver in his gap, reads what's going on,
- 22:59Speaker 1: spins it and you can see Daikwan just getting driven
- 23:04Speaker 1: back there and displaced and unfortunately kind of essentially knocked
- 23:08Speaker 1: off the ball. So again good play from Ed Oliver. Also,
- 23:12Speaker 1: if we notice two just set a little little basis,
- 23:16Speaker 1: you notice like Greg Russou and Terrell Bernard end up
- 23:19Speaker 1: in the same gap. That's ideally not what you want.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Cole Bishop spun down late, but he's essentially in the
- 23:24Speaker 1: same gap as Joey Bosa. Then what you get when
- 23:29Speaker 1: Henry cuts back here. Essentially Milano has to make a
- 23:34Speaker 1: choice based off of the fit here, So Henry puts
- 23:37Speaker 1: his foot in the ground. Milano essentially has to try
- 23:40Speaker 1: and be here or try and be here. He picks
- 23:43Speaker 1: to our left. Henry sees that makes him wrong just
- 23:48Speaker 1: based off of the runfit. Other than the quick snap,
- 23:52Speaker 1: there's nothing really wild here. This is just a basic offense,
- 23:55Speaker 1: you know, outside zone creating displacement, and the Bills kind
- 23:59Speaker 1: of get a little bit there. Let us go to
- 24:05Speaker 1: play too here, so play too. This is the very
- 24:09Speaker 1: next play, first quarter, ten fifty three, second and four
- 24:13Speaker 1: gain a one. This is a positive play for the
- 24:15Speaker 1: Bills defense here again, I have this highlighted to show
- 24:18Speaker 1: the nature of the Bills defense trying to get set,
- 24:20Speaker 1: trying to get ready. The Ravens were coming out of
- 24:23Speaker 1: the huddle at various tempos. They were snapping the ball
- 24:28Speaker 1: at various tempos, doing a lot of things to kind
- 24:30Speaker 1: of you know, Jedi mind trick or play games with
- 24:33Speaker 1: the Bills defense, which I really loved from the Ravens perspective.
- 24:37Speaker 1: So highlight Bernard is getting at Oliver ready, you see
- 24:41Speaker 1: Taylor Rapp communicating. You see Matt Mlano communicating. Guys are
- 24:44Speaker 1: kind of putting everything together right now. On the fly,
- 24:47Speaker 1: Ed just gets into a stance ball to snap. But
- 24:50Speaker 1: really good play from Ed Oliver. I'm just showing it
- 24:54Speaker 1: here from the sideline angle, but I'm gonna show it
- 24:58Speaker 1: from the end zone because of how good of a
- 24:59Speaker 1: job he does. Watch him just gum that up again.
- 25:03Speaker 1: We talked about this placement on the previous play, right,
- 25:05Speaker 1: We talked, you know, Daikwon Jones got driven back this way,
- 25:08Speaker 1: but Ed was able to stay and come back inside.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Watch the defensive line now and if there's movement, so
- 25:14Speaker 1: the you know line of scrimmage essentially right here. I
- 25:17Speaker 1: can't trus straight lines. Don't yell at me. Look at
- 25:20Speaker 1: how much displacement there is or isn't. Now day Kwon
- 25:23Speaker 1: is able to tork a little bit. He gets smacked
- 25:25Speaker 1: by the right guard, but is still able to kind
- 25:27Speaker 1: of turn and gum things up. Ed is going nowhere.
- 25:30Speaker 1: He gets lower gums this whole thing up. Look where
- 25:32Speaker 1: Bosa is, Look where Groot is. Group does a good
- 25:35Speaker 1: job reading the mesh point in the backfield, crashes down,
- 25:40Speaker 1: makes the stop but look at the difference. And again
- 25:43Speaker 1: when I talk about this placement, guys getting blown off
- 25:45Speaker 1: the ball or not getting blown off the ball. This
- 25:50Speaker 1: one also to notice we've got at Oliver eating this
- 25:53Speaker 1: double team only again a one on this play. And
- 25:56Speaker 1: also from a box perspective, we as we let this
- 26:00Speaker 1: here a little bits. We've got one, two, three, four, five, six,
- 26:09Speaker 1: and then we look at Benford here we'll call him
- 26:12Speaker 1: in the box. That's seven. Rapistn to drop out. But
- 26:15Speaker 1: then notice on the snap essentially the math you know,
- 26:20Speaker 1: Edding group change the math a little bit, but the
- 26:22Speaker 1: math also changes itself because the Ravens tight ends leave
- 26:25Speaker 1: the box. Charlie Colark goes out that way, Mark Andrews
- 26:27Speaker 1: goes out that way. We've got the mesh action in
- 26:29Speaker 1: the backfield. So now the math changes. We got Colar
- 26:33Speaker 1: levin eighty eight, we've got Andrews Leavin. Group does a
- 26:35Speaker 1: good job reading it and crashes down. But I really
- 26:39Speaker 1: again from this angle, I want to highlight at Oliver.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Watch him against the double team. Stay low, he sees
- 26:46Speaker 1: the double, he feels it, watch him react and bang.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Look at him drop the shoulder, drop the head. He's
- 26:53Speaker 1: in his gap, he's playing with leverage, he's playing with strength.
- 26:57Speaker 1: You could see one leg here, another one here. He's
- 27:00Speaker 1: got a wide base. He is anchoring and then look
- 27:03Speaker 1: he moves off of one man shoulder and head inside
- 27:09Speaker 1: the gap. There he's fighting through. He's gumming this up,
- 27:12Speaker 1: not getting displaced. Good job holding strong. Again. You can
- 27:16Speaker 1: defeat a double team by dropping the knee of reducing
- 27:19Speaker 1: your surface area splitting the double team. Or you could
- 27:22Speaker 1: just stay stout and not get moved and be able
- 27:25Speaker 1: to anchor and make a good play in that regard.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Next play here, first quarter, eight minute and fifty five
- 27:32Speaker 1: second mark. We are on a second and five and
- 27:37Speaker 1: we get a gain of two. Another good run defense
- 27:39Speaker 1: for the Bills. This one really highlighted by Christian Benford
- 27:42Speaker 1: on this play, but who I also have highlighted here.
- 27:46Speaker 1: As we go through, well, actually, I'm gonna let this
- 27:48Speaker 1: run now so you can see something else that I
- 27:50Speaker 1: thought the Ravens did a good job of a lot
- 27:52Speaker 1: of just shifts and resets. You had some motion, but
- 27:55Speaker 1: a lot of shifts and resets by the Ravens. Here's
- 27:58Speaker 1: a good example here. You know you've got like a
- 27:59Speaker 1: split back gunn type of look, Lamar checks. Now we got,
- 28:04Speaker 1: you know, a heavy eye bang. This is probably pat
- 28:08Speaker 1: Riccard if he's healthy. This is probably as a likely
- 28:12Speaker 1: if he's healthy. Both of those guys were not, which
- 28:15Speaker 1: is crazy considering how good the Ravens moved the ball
- 28:17Speaker 1: in this game, and they didn't have two of their
- 28:18Speaker 1: important chess pieces. But I wanted to just highlight that
- 28:22Speaker 1: that little formational change. Now we get to right before
- 28:25Speaker 1: the snap, and I've highlighted Christian Benford, who does a
- 28:28Speaker 1: great job here on this run fit. So does Trerel Bernard.
- 28:31Speaker 1: But I've also highlighted Javon Solomon, and I've also highlighted
- 28:34Speaker 1: t J. Sanders here, who is in this right side
- 28:37Speaker 1: b gap. I wanted to highlight them on this because
- 28:41Speaker 1: Sanders and Solomon both do run stunts on the snap.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Solomon stunt takes the right tackle inside t J. Sanders'
- 28:49Speaker 1: stunt gums up the right guard and the center, and
- 28:53Speaker 1: then we get to Rell Bernard fitting off the inside
- 28:55Speaker 1: shoulder the foot full back Christian Benford fits the alley
- 29:00Speaker 1: off of that. Let's also count numbers one, two, three, four, five, six,
- 29:06Speaker 1: seven with Milano hard seven eight ish with Benford being
- 29:13Speaker 1: in the box, and that's versus one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
- 29:19Speaker 1: eight blockers for the Ravens. So again, what do we
- 29:23Speaker 1: have a hard seven in the box eight ish with
- 29:26Speaker 1: Christian Benford. But even if it's eight on eight, that
- 29:28Speaker 1: means there's nine gaps. Somebody's got to do something, somebody's
- 29:31Speaker 1: got to win something somehow. And the math change that
- 29:34Speaker 1: we get is TJ. Sanders on the snap. So here's
- 29:37Speaker 1: TJ Sanders right here. Watch him go this way, and
- 29:41Speaker 1: watch Davon Solomon go this way and watch what it does. Bang.
- 29:46Speaker 1: So now what do we got. TJ Sanders is taking
- 29:49Speaker 1: up two guys. We've changed the math. We now have
- 29:51Speaker 1: two blockers on one bills defender. We have changed the
- 29:54Speaker 1: math for the defense. Solomon is slanning inside, Bernard is
- 30:00Speaker 1: coming out this way to fit over here, we've got
- 30:04Speaker 1: Milano taking the outside shoulder here against Mark Andrews, and
- 30:08Speaker 1: then we've got Benford reading here and fitting accordingly. I
- 30:11Speaker 1: can't talk about enough how good of a run fit
- 30:13Speaker 1: this is for a corner. Benford's one of the better
- 30:16Speaker 1: run defending corners in the league. He had a bit
- 30:18Speaker 1: of a gaff later in the game, which we're going
- 30:20Speaker 1: to talk about in this one. But this is a
- 30:21Speaker 1: really good play for Benford. So again, if we're just
- 30:24Speaker 1: aggregating everything here, we've got three bills defenders for two blockers.
- 30:28Speaker 1: We have changed the math. Now here comes this full back.
- 30:33Speaker 1: So now you've got to cover this gap here, but
- 30:36Speaker 1: you've also got to cover the alley. But that's fine
- 30:38Speaker 1: because again the bills change the math. Torel Bernard is
- 30:41Speaker 1: going to tack the inside shoulder here of eighty four,
- 30:45Speaker 1: Bang meets him head on. So now Henry's got to
- 30:47Speaker 1: go this way right into the alley for Christian Benford.
- 30:51Speaker 1: And here comes Christian Benford who essentially tackles eighty four
- 30:55Speaker 1: and tackles Derek Henry. Really good job from ben v
- 31:00Speaker 1: but again showing that example, change the math, right, Sanders
- 31:05Speaker 1: and Solomons stunt. That's a huge important piece. That's stunt
- 31:09Speaker 1: again if you've got smaller penetration based defensive linemen, especially
- 31:13Speaker 1: on the interior, and you've got guys that aren't gonna
- 31:16Speaker 1: anchor versus double teams, or they're not gonna drop the
- 31:18Speaker 1: knee and split the double team and work through or
- 31:21Speaker 1: win just with size and power and size and strength
- 31:24Speaker 1: and all that kind of stuff. You can do different things.
- 31:27Speaker 1: You can still win with penetration. This is where you
- 31:29Speaker 1: got to slant the front, get up field quickly, just
- 31:32Speaker 1: do a variety of things that can get you caught
- 31:34Speaker 1: out at times, which I'm gonna show an example of later.
- 31:36Speaker 1: But this is an example of how you can win
- 31:38Speaker 1: with having smaller penetration based guys in your front, and
- 31:43Speaker 1: you know it's a risk reward sometimes you'll get caught out.
- 31:46Speaker 1: But Sanders changes the math. Bang, bang, here comes Benford
- 31:52Speaker 1: takes the inside shoulder. I'm sorry, it comes Bernard to
- 31:54Speaker 1: take the inside shoulder to tours, Henry makes Henry pop
- 31:58Speaker 1: this thing out. Benford's there. Bang, well done, well done,
- 32:04Speaker 1: well done. Really to the football. Make the tackle. Next
- 32:09Speaker 1: play that we are going to get into here, second quarter,
- 32:16Speaker 1: thirteen minute, forty one second mark. We're gonna get a
- 32:19Speaker 1: lead toss here. This is a thirty yard touchdown for
- 32:22Speaker 1: the Ravens on first and ten. I'm gonna show it
- 32:26Speaker 1: from the sideline angle so you can get a sense,
- 32:29Speaker 1: and then we're gonna show it from the end zone
- 32:30Speaker 1: angle again. What did we just get? Notice what we got? Got?
- 32:34Speaker 1: This bunch action over here? Shotgun offset running back. Cool,
- 32:39Speaker 1: What do the Ravens do? Shift on the snap? Now
- 32:42Speaker 1: we have an eye formation, what do we get. I'm
- 32:47Speaker 1: gonna get a shift from mister z A. Flowers. Lamar
- 32:50Speaker 1: just signaled to him he's gonna move outside. Get a
- 32:52Speaker 1: little exit motion or reset out there. Now Actually he
- 32:56Speaker 1: does her reset. No, he stays in motion. Yeah, so
- 32:58Speaker 1: just straight up exit motion. I highlighted several players here,
- 33:01Speaker 1: So Greg Russo, Matt Mlano, and Terrel Bernard in the
- 33:05Speaker 1: middle and then Taylor rap here on this side. So
- 33:09Speaker 1: Greg Russo down here on the edge, he is going
- 33:13Speaker 1: to get blocked from Mark Andrews. If you notice outside
- 33:16Speaker 1: foot up for Mark Andrews, kind of a tell that
- 33:20Speaker 1: there's gonna be some kind of down block come in.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Same thing for wide receivers. If you're like a wide
- 33:24Speaker 1: receiver line here and outside foot is up, it's like
- 33:27Speaker 1: that they're gonna come in here and try and crack
- 33:28Speaker 1: or steal somebody. But Greg Russou down there on the edge,
- 33:31Speaker 1: he's gonna get tripped. Terrell Bernard gets ran through Daikwon
- 33:36Speaker 1: Jones over here maybe kind of sorta gets held. But
- 33:42Speaker 1: also just the end of the day, doesn't get off
- 33:44Speaker 1: his block. I don't know. I'm sorry. Hold on, no,
- 33:48Speaker 1: that's different. Uh, I forget what I just said. Grud
- 33:50Speaker 1: is just gonna get pinned by the tight end. Bernard's
- 33:53Speaker 1: gonna get sealed. Milanal's gonna flow over the top. He's
- 33:56Speaker 1: gonna get nudged slightly, and he gets run by. So
- 33:59Speaker 1: he and rap are essentially in the same gap. And
- 34:02Speaker 1: then this is the play where Cole Bishop gets dribbled. Sorry,
- 34:05Speaker 1: see see what happens? I'm just read from my notes
- 34:08Speaker 1: confused plays Sonica clown. Let's just watch the play, all right,
- 34:11Speaker 1: So boom, here's rousseau. Here comes the block from Mark Andrews.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Bang sealed, pinned inside once again. Talked about group. Now
- 34:21Speaker 1: let's watch Dorrian Williams. Dorrian Williams is going to meet
- 34:24Speaker 1: the outside shoulder of the full back to force the
- 34:26Speaker 1: run back inside. But keep an eye on Torrell Bernard
- 34:31Speaker 1: right here as he and Dorian both move. So there
- 34:33Speaker 1: goes Dorian. Bernard gets sealed. He's done. So Milano again,
- 34:39Speaker 1: We're gonna look at this in the ends on angle.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Malanos coming over here, but he gets hit just enough
- 34:43Speaker 1: by Foulelea to kind of push him kind of run
- 34:47Speaker 1: by this play, so he ends up in the same
- 34:49Speaker 1: gap with Taylor rapp which is not great. And then
- 34:54Speaker 1: Henry goes through. See we're talking about Daikwon Jones. Here's Daiquon.
- 34:59Speaker 1: I'll back get up quickly. Deykwon coming through close, but
- 35:04Speaker 1: Jess doesn't get off the block in time. Matt Milano
- 35:08Speaker 1: and Taylor rap both in the same gap. Here comes
- 35:11Speaker 1: Cole Bishop, who again unfortunately gets stiff armed and gets
- 35:15Speaker 1: dribbled by Derrick Henry, and we have a touchdown and
- 35:18Speaker 1: a house call. Again, I'll play it in real time
- 35:22Speaker 1: from the sideline angle so you can see. Also, if
- 35:28Speaker 1: you notice that you care, watch Torel Bernard on the snap.
- 35:31Speaker 1: He's looking like call. He looks back here, but cold
- 35:35Speaker 1: Bishop is up here disguising, and then he drops on
- 35:37Speaker 1: the snap. So maybe somebody who's in the wrong here
- 35:38Speaker 1: at some point, but Bernard is trying to communicate. At
- 35:41Speaker 1: the end of the day, still on the snap, and
- 35:42Speaker 1: the Ravens are snapping again, another example of them kind
- 35:46Speaker 1: of just catching buffalo at times. Everybody gets sealed. See
- 35:49Speaker 1: that little tiny push on Milano, who pause it. Here's Milano.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Watch that little tiny push enough to kind of get
- 36:01Speaker 1: him going that way. And now we got two guys
- 36:02Speaker 1: in the gap. We're just gonna run a real time
- 36:05Speaker 1: from this angle, and then we're gonna go to the
- 36:06Speaker 1: end zone. Bang bang bang bills on the ground. House
- 36:12Speaker 1: call for mister Derrick Henry scary guy when he gets
- 36:15Speaker 1: on the move. So again this angle just highlighting the run.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Fits Milano, Bernard Groot, Taylor rap. Let's go from this angle.
- 36:23Speaker 1: There goes the exit motion for and now if you're
- 36:27Speaker 1: asking here like why is cool Bishop dropping, Like what's happening?
- 36:30Speaker 1: That's the coverage, Like he is dropping on the snap.
- 36:33Speaker 1: They're trying to show one thing again, they're trying to
- 36:35Speaker 1: disguise he is holding right until the snap. He's trying
- 36:38Speaker 1: to make them think like, oh, I'm coming, I'm gonna
- 36:40Speaker 1: do something psych I'm dropping on the snap. But at
- 36:44Speaker 1: the end of the day, so it starts here, mister
- 36:46Speaker 1: greg Russo gets sealed inside again. This is just a
- 36:52Speaker 1: lead toss. So you get a little crack there on
- 36:53Speaker 1: the outside and then you get the lead from the
- 36:55Speaker 1: full back the center and the right tackle or getting
- 36:58Speaker 1: out in space. Doan meets the outside shoulder. He's acting
- 37:03Speaker 1: as a forced player to try and spin this thing
- 37:05Speaker 1: or spill it, not spill this thing, force this play
- 37:07Speaker 1: back inside, which he does. This is where we get
- 37:09Speaker 1: into the problem here. So here's Torel Bernard getting sealed inside.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Go back a little bit more so you can see
- 37:16Speaker 1: there's Bernard. He just gets caught and sealed inside. This
- 37:23Speaker 1: is Matt Mlonald right here. He's gonna get pushed and
- 37:25Speaker 1: gets that run by a little bit so bang you
- 37:28Speaker 1: can see. You see that little burst from him. I
- 37:30Speaker 1: know it still counts as kind of like overflowing or
- 37:33Speaker 1: over pursuing for some but he just you see that
- 37:36Speaker 1: little burst. So now all of a sudden you've got
- 37:39Speaker 1: him in the alley. But Taylor Rapp is also here
- 37:41Speaker 1: in the alley, which means there is no one here
- 37:44Speaker 1: because you have Bernard being sealed. De Kwon isn't coming
- 37:49Speaker 1: off the block enough. So because you've got both of
- 37:52Speaker 1: these defenders in this gap, your only hope is for
- 37:56Speaker 1: Cole Bishop to fill from the backside. That's not a
- 37:58Speaker 1: good arrow there. Fill from the backside against Derrick Henry,
- 38:02Speaker 1: which he does, but he just gets drippled. Not a
- 38:09Speaker 1: great look for Bishop. Great run from Henry, though, m Yeah,
- 38:20Speaker 1: and if we notice again, let's count numbers in the
- 38:23Speaker 1: box one, two, three, four five. Why did that move?
- 38:31Speaker 1: Bosa is one, Milano is two, edis three, day Kuon
- 38:36Speaker 1: is four, Bernards five, Dorian is six, Groot is seven.
- 38:42Speaker 1: You've got seven defenders in the box for one, two, three, four,
- 38:47Speaker 1: five six seven blockers, five offensive linemen plus the tight
- 38:53Speaker 1: end plus the full back seven on seven even from
- 38:56Speaker 1: a numbers perspective, down from a gap perspective. Yeah, let's
- 39:01Speaker 1: watch there. That's kind of it. Just get caught. Hou's
- 39:06Speaker 1: called dribbled rough. Next play, Actually, let me pause for
- 39:15Speaker 1: a sec. I want to go to chat anything. Bill's
- 39:20Speaker 1: fan seventy eighty three says Babbite. Said Bernard wasn't playing
- 39:23Speaker 1: freely and was thinking too much. Just needs to trust
- 39:25Speaker 1: the call and go make the plays that are there paraphrasing. Yeah,
- 39:28Speaker 1: he had kind of a rough game, which was unfortunate.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Yeah he did. Yeah, I see a couple comments there,
- 39:35Speaker 1: but Bernard, Yeah, he had a bit of rough game.
- 39:37Speaker 1: Got cracked a bunch, not literal crack, I just mean
- 39:39Speaker 1: like smacked, and some guys going through him from time
- 39:42Speaker 1: to time. Let us go to this next play here,
- 39:48Speaker 1: second quarter, eleven minute, twenty three second mark. We're gonna
- 39:52Speaker 1: get a mid zone run here. This is a forty
- 39:55Speaker 1: nine yard game on second and five six eventually on
- 40:00Speaker 1: the line for the Bills, and they run blitz. You're
- 40:02Speaker 1: gonna get seven blockers verse seven in the box again,
- 40:05Speaker 1: even from a hat on half perspective, down from a
- 40:07Speaker 1: gap perspective. Greg Russeau, who I have highlighted, He's gonna
- 40:11Speaker 1: get tripped. This is what player I was talking about
- 40:12Speaker 1: earlier when I confused my notes. Terrell Bernard, he right
- 40:16Speaker 1: here is going to get ran through. Dae Kwon doesn't
- 40:21Speaker 1: quite get off his block, maybe gets held a little bit.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Cole Bishop jumps outside too much out here. I'm gonna
- 40:28Speaker 1: show you. Bishop comes more out here, which helps with
- 40:30Speaker 1: the wide receiver who's trying to push Crack on him. Benford,
- 40:35Speaker 1: Milano and Bishop essentially all get walled off together. Rap
- 40:39Speaker 1: Triggers is part of the fifth from the backside, but
- 40:41Speaker 1: misses the tackle. And then we're gonna highlight Dorian Strong. Okay,
- 40:44Speaker 1: ready break, let's watch it real time. Feel free to
- 40:48Speaker 1: keep your eyes on whoever you want. I'm gonna end
- 40:50Speaker 1: up rewind it anyway. Leash. Great play from Dorian Strong.
- 40:56Speaker 1: This angle is nice. That ends on angles even better.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Okay again, let's watch Okay, as I talked about. So
- 41:04Speaker 1: we have a little one, two, three, four, five six
- 41:08Speaker 1: on the line. Taron Johnson is blitzing. But because this
- 41:12Speaker 1: run is a zone run to the right, we got
- 41:15Speaker 1: mid zone to the right. Taron Johnson essentially doesn't even matter.
- 41:18Speaker 1: He gets unblocked because he's the backside and man on
- 41:21Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage for that zone run, so they're
- 41:24Speaker 1: leaving him unblocked. He even gets held a little bit
- 41:26Speaker 1: you can see, not literally held, but you watch Terrren
- 41:29Speaker 1: come off the edge. He chops his feet a little
- 41:31Speaker 1: bit because he's honoring any potential boot action from Lamar.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Here comes Groot, starts out good, but he ends on angle.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Will show you he gets tripped, goes down. Here's Terrell Bernard.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Watch Terrell Bernard or he's climbs smacks him right in
- 41:53Speaker 1: the face kind of literally and figuratively. And then watch
- 41:58Speaker 1: from the end here Bishop Bentford, Milano all essentially get
- 42:05Speaker 1: walled off by kind of one but more like these
- 42:09Speaker 1: two blockers right here. Milanal tries to squeeze through a
- 42:11Speaker 1: little bit, but just can't get the angle. We'll watching
- 42:14Speaker 1: slow motion. See they're all three of these guys are
- 42:17Speaker 1: walled off and there's nobody here. There goes Derick Henry.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Good run for Derick Henry. Now let's go to the
- 42:29Speaker 1: end zone angle easier to see. Here's Russeau. I've got
- 42:32Speaker 1: Milano circled, Bishop circled, Bernard circled, Taylor rap circled. Let's
- 42:38Speaker 1: watch here. This is a good angle. You can see Rousseau.
- 42:41Speaker 1: Watch his feet here. It's just unfortunate. Uses both hands.
- 42:46Speaker 1: He's trying to occupy guys using that length, gets stepped
- 42:50Speaker 1: on right there. As he's getting pushed, he goes down.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Problem one day Kwon Jones ranked here doesn't get off
- 42:58Speaker 1: the block. That's why I said maybe gets held a
- 42:59Speaker 1: little bit. Hands are inside the frame of the pads.
- 43:03Speaker 1: They're inside the chest. But you can see da Quon's
- 43:05Speaker 1: trying to come free, but he can't. So Daikon's got
- 43:09Speaker 1: nothing there. We'll go back a little bit more. Let's
- 43:14Speaker 1: watch Torell Bernard circle. There, here comes Andrew Voorhi's bang.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Bernard gets planted into the ground. Let's back up one
- 43:25Speaker 1: more time. Let's watch Cole Bishop, Cole Bishop coming down.
- 43:34Speaker 1: My thought here he should be here again. Mathis the
- 43:37Speaker 1: numbers are changing because what happens to Bernard and Groot
- 43:40Speaker 1: And now you're kind of getting into a spot where
- 43:43Speaker 1: you're in trouble. But Rosengarden is looking back. He's got
- 43:46Speaker 1: no one, so he gets his head around to the
- 43:48Speaker 1: front side. You know you've got Benford here. Bishop's gotta
- 43:52Speaker 1: stay more here, you gotta cause more problems with your
- 43:55Speaker 1: fit there he kind of jumps himself outside but also
- 44:00Speaker 1: gets pushed outside a little bit. And then this is
- 44:03Speaker 1: then obviously the ends on angle of this. These you
- 44:05Speaker 1: have three defenders who are walled off. And then Bernard
- 44:09Speaker 1: got smacked and is getting up, but and Rap is
- 44:12Speaker 1: coming through here. But this is, uh, what did I
- 44:18Speaker 1: just do? There we go? But this is a big
- 44:20Speaker 1: size alley for Derrick Henry and here comes Rap right
- 44:27Speaker 1: y'all goes to make the tackle, bounces off. I mean Henry. Also,
- 44:32Speaker 1: this is just being awesome for Derrick Henry, Like watch
- 44:35Speaker 1: him just lower that shoulder, absorb the contact and just
- 44:39Speaker 1: keep going. Watch Dorian Strong, this is awesome. Strong chases
- 44:44Speaker 1: him down. I'm gonna slow mow it. As he gets closer,
- 44:48Speaker 1: Henry goes for the stiff arm and watch Strong chop
- 44:52Speaker 1: the arm down, get lower than Henry, play through him
- 44:57Speaker 1: and bring him down. That's a really good play from
- 45:00Speaker 1: Dorian Strong. I'mouna played in real time. Bang. That's a
- 45:04Speaker 1: nice play from Dorian Strong. I don't think he added
- 45:07Speaker 1: amazing of a game as some people kind of making
- 45:08Speaker 1: it out to be. But that's an awesome play from
- 45:10Speaker 1: Dorian Strong. Again, you can just see right like you
- 45:14Speaker 1: can just see how this play is developing, even if
- 45:16Speaker 1: you don't know anything about the science of runfits, even
- 45:19Speaker 1: if you don't know anything about how good someone's schematically
- 45:23Speaker 1: is or isn't, or what things are supposed to be.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Just watch right here, like you can tell just by
- 45:29Speaker 1: the naked eye. We probably don't want three guys here
- 45:34Speaker 1: and nobody here not to boil it down or make
- 45:39Speaker 1: it overly simple. But yeah, so Wrap ends up being
- 45:43Speaker 1: the one to have the chance just bounces off Henry
- 45:46Speaker 1: because Henry is a freight train. Once he gets moving,
- 45:50Speaker 1: that's all you can see what you get there and
- 45:54Speaker 1: then again Yeah, one two three, four, five, six seven,
- 46:00Speaker 1: essentially in the box versus one two, three, four five
- 46:05Speaker 1: six seven, so you are a gap short if you
- 46:09Speaker 1: are the Bills defense. But then also again the math
- 46:12Speaker 1: changes on the snap because one of your seven, Taron Johnson,
- 46:18Speaker 1: essentially gets erased and doesn't matter at all. So now
- 46:20Speaker 1: you've got one two, three, four five six seven blockers
- 46:25Speaker 1: for one two three, four five six defenders in the
- 46:31Speaker 1: box for the Bills. So the math has changed positively
- 46:33Speaker 1: for the Ravens. Football, at the end of the day,
- 46:37Speaker 1: in a nerdy way, comes down to essentially math. Uh
- 46:42Speaker 1: what is what is addition to subtraction? Arithmetic? So it
- 46:44Speaker 1: comes down to arithmetic geometry, which is like space and angles.
- 46:49Speaker 1: That's all it comes down to. Football is numbers angles
- 46:52Speaker 1: in space. And then we change the math a little
- 46:55Speaker 1: bit more. Why because here comes to shop Bateman to
- 46:58Speaker 1: crack on this man in the box. So he's still
- 47:01Speaker 1: got to play here. He's still got to play forward.
- 47:03Speaker 1: Mister Cole Bishop, you've got to play forward. Stay there,
- 47:06Speaker 1: You've got to come here. Stick this, force Henry to
- 47:10Speaker 1: come into Benford, who is the unblocked man. And if
- 47:15Speaker 1: Benford can, if Henry has to come this way, Benford
- 47:18Speaker 1: triggers this way. I know Rose and Garden is there
- 47:21Speaker 1: and is looking to pick up Benford, which he does. Well,
- 47:24Speaker 1: you've got the opportunity to kind of fit in here.
- 47:26Speaker 1: And even if Bishop is just here, you get another
- 47:29Speaker 1: body to try and muddy this thing and not just
- 47:31Speaker 1: leave a runway for Derrick Henry are the good play
- 47:37Speaker 1: from Dorian Strong, All right, play six nothing do crazy
- 47:44Speaker 1: on this one. Second quarter nine p Fifty two. Mark
- 47:47Speaker 1: Lamar keeps this ball ten yard touchdown on second and five.
- 47:50Speaker 1: What I really just want to show is how the
- 47:52Speaker 1: jet sweep action from Zay Flowers and the slot plus
- 47:55Speaker 1: the fake give holds the defenders creates some muddiness and
- 47:59Speaker 1: the reads for the guys, and then you need a
- 48:02Speaker 1: touchdown here for the Ravens. So watch this. Here we go,
- 48:07Speaker 1: watch the second level. Watch essentially Tarn to Bernard to
- 48:12Speaker 1: Milano and Rap. Watch what happens to him here. See
- 48:18Speaker 1: terrencetown and Ugo. There goes Rap. Bernard and Milano both
- 48:22Speaker 1: step down. Terren steps down. Now you've created better angles
- 48:27Speaker 1: for yourself if you're the Ravens, and you've also created numbers.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Now you've got two blockers for two defenders, so you
- 48:33Speaker 1: have a hat on a hat, which is advantage Ravens.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Plus you have Lamarin space, which is a huge problem,
- 48:39Speaker 1: and you have a touchdown. Go for the end zone
- 48:42Speaker 1: angle here see the jet sweep influence plus the Lamar
- 48:45Speaker 1: fake and keeper. We're gonna start here with Matt Mulano.
- 48:47Speaker 1: Actually no, we'll start with Bernard and rap Watch Bernard
- 48:52Speaker 1: eight Rap nine. Watch the movement. So they initially move
- 48:56Speaker 1: and just again, just that little movement from Bernard, same
- 48:59Speaker 1: thing from Taron John's and both these guys stepping in
- 49:01Speaker 1: here just a little bit helps create angles for Ronnie
- 49:04Speaker 1: Stanley and for Mark Andrews to kind of make those blocks.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Bernard sees it and is out the gate. Lamar reads it,
- 49:11Speaker 1: cuts back boom. Let's go back again. Let's watch mister
- 49:15Speaker 1: Matt Milano number fifty eight. Watch Milano just get muddied
- 49:18Speaker 1: up by this thing. He's trying to figure out where
- 49:20Speaker 1: this ball is. He sees a Flowers go sees that
- 49:23Speaker 1: Zay doesn't have the ball, but he gets his eye
- 49:26Speaker 1: to Justice Hill. Does Justice Hill have the ball? Let
- 49:29Speaker 1: me engage. I'm trying to figure out what's going on.
- 49:32Speaker 1: He's still trying to figure out what's happening. Lamar's kind
- 49:35Speaker 1: of already about to be out the gate. Milano is
- 49:38Speaker 1: still fighting through sees it. But you know, being even
- 49:43Speaker 1: a half second late, let alone almost a full second late,
- 49:46Speaker 1: is a death sentence against Lamar. And that's what you get.
- 49:49Speaker 1: And then also we get Joey Bosa crashing down here
- 49:53Speaker 1: on the edge. There goes Bosa, he goes flying down,
- 49:58Speaker 1: honoring the run, keeps bang two on two on the
- 50:03Speaker 1: outside numbers angles space walking touchdown for Lamar. Awesome player.
- 50:11Speaker 1: Next play that we are going to go to here
- 50:13Speaker 1: one of my favorite plays. I talk about this on
- 50:17Speaker 1: social all the time. This play is called crunch. Sorry
- 50:22Speaker 1: I saw the comic. Quick Nathan says, Matt, damn you
- 50:25Speaker 1: and they says trigonometry as a lost art, especially from
- 50:29Speaker 1: my backers and safety. Oh I love that. Real quick
- 50:34Speaker 1: comment here from Bill's fan seventy eight eighty three says,
- 50:36Speaker 1: two things really concern me from this game. Bernard is
- 50:38Speaker 1: too small and can easily be completely taken out of
- 50:40Speaker 1: a game. Group just can't tackle. For whatever reason, he's
- 50:42Speaker 1: good in position to miss the tackle. I think some
- 50:45Speaker 1: of it for Groot because he is so big and long,
- 50:48Speaker 1: like he doesn't have great change of direction, so he
- 50:51Speaker 1: can kind of get caught bumbling a little bit at times.
- 50:54Speaker 1: I don't think he's he can't tackle, but there is
- 50:56Speaker 1: some awkwardness to him at times. Bernard Bernard. I wanted
- 51:01Speaker 1: to pull this up because this kind of just relates
- 51:03Speaker 1: to what I overall think when it comes to Bernard
- 51:08Speaker 1: and part of why I wanted more of a space
- 51:10Speaker 1: eater at defensive tackle. You've got a small second level.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Bernard is small, even Milana is small for a linebacker.
- 51:16Speaker 1: Taron Johnson is small. Having dudes climb to the second
- 51:19Speaker 1: level and get hands on them and body them is
- 51:21Speaker 1: a problem. And this game the Ravens offensive line, for
- 51:25Speaker 1: as much maligned as they were at times and kind
- 51:28Speaker 1: of not executing well, they would get to the second
- 51:30Speaker 1: level on Bernard and mash him. And you don't want
- 51:33Speaker 1: him having to do that all the time. It's enough
- 51:35Speaker 1: that he already has to, you know, jupe guys and trigger.
- 51:38Speaker 1: But yeah, with his size and play style, if you
- 51:40Speaker 1: let dudes get to the second level, it can be
- 51:42Speaker 1: a problem. And I think that was definitely reflected unfortunately
- 51:46Speaker 1: in this game. This play here, second quarter, two minute,
- 51:49Speaker 1: forty two second mark, first and ten seventeen yard game.
- 51:52Speaker 1: This play is crunch. I love this play. Essentially, all
- 51:57Speaker 1: crunch is. I've got several players highlighted from a Bills
- 51:59Speaker 1: per perspective, but also from a Ravens perspective. Crunch essentially
- 52:05Speaker 1: is trap plus wham. So the trap is this one
- 52:09Speaker 1: tech or the shade here, it's gonna get trapped by
- 52:12Speaker 1: the guard. The wham block is the same thing. It's
- 52:16Speaker 1: just a trap, but from like a tight end or
- 52:18Speaker 1: an h back on the three tech out here. We're
- 52:22Speaker 1: gonna start with mister t J. Sanders. This is what
- 52:24Speaker 1: I talked about earlier, right, if you are a penetration
- 52:26Speaker 1: based defense, you get upfield teams know that they can
- 52:31Speaker 1: use that against you. The for those you know, kind
- 52:33Speaker 1: of playing at home. This was the play the Ravens
- 52:36Speaker 1: ran on the very first play of the game last
- 52:38Speaker 1: year in Baltimore. That was that what like seventy two
- 52:41Speaker 1: or seventy three yard touchdown Derrick Henry Charlie Kohlar Here
- 52:45Speaker 1: was pat Riccard. They ran crunch. Ra Soul Douglas was
- 52:48Speaker 1: the unblock defender over here. Henry just went around and
- 52:51Speaker 1: went like that. But let's watch. We'll start with TJ.
- 52:55Speaker 1: Sanders here. Watch TJ Sanders how fast he gets upfield,
- 52:59Speaker 1: he essentially takes alf out of the play done Cohlar
- 53:06Speaker 1: is trying to pick him up. He wants to seal him.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Meet him here, Derek Henry's gonna cut right off his butt,
- 53:12Speaker 1: like that's where you want to go. Sanders flies so
- 53:15Speaker 1: or flies up field so fast. Cola doesn't even really
- 53:18Speaker 1: get hands on him, Like he gets literally like a
- 53:21Speaker 1: paw on his shoulder, like that's it. But Sanders flew
- 53:24Speaker 1: a field so fast he's done, so Henry's already buy him.
- 53:27Speaker 1: Dion Walker actually does a pretty good job here. You're
- 53:32Speaker 1: trying to use this pole here as an influence block
- 53:36Speaker 1: to try and hold this guy a little bit or
- 53:39Speaker 1: make him stall. Get his eyes there so you can
- 53:41Speaker 1: really get that trap on him. Walker doesn't even register
- 53:44Speaker 1: with it. But watch Walker just see quick swim inside
- 53:49Speaker 1: defeats his man doesn't end up really mattering, but nice
- 53:53Speaker 1: move from him. Other aspect of this run play Ronnie Stanley.
- 53:56Speaker 1: This is a hard block for him. He's trying to
- 53:58Speaker 1: get to Bernard. Usually depending on the front like this
- 54:01Speaker 1: backside backer is more over this way. This is a
- 54:03Speaker 1: hard block for Ronnie Stanley. He gets to Bernard. This
- 54:08Speaker 1: is the one kind of qualm, a little bit I
- 54:10Speaker 1: have with this. Watch Stanley on Bernard. I think it
- 54:13Speaker 1: might be a hold, but it looks like he's just
- 54:17Speaker 1: leaning on him more than he's pulling on him. It
- 54:20Speaker 1: doesn't look great. I'm gonna keep running in slow mookes
- 54:22Speaker 1: my fingers already on the cursor. Bernard is here. Let's
- 54:25Speaker 1: watch Bernard get up. Bernard kind of gets up and
- 54:27Speaker 1: looks like he wants a flag or expects a flag,
- 54:30Speaker 1: but he doesn't make too much of a fuss about it.
- 54:32Speaker 1: So eh, But seventeen yard gain on first and ten
- 54:37Speaker 1: t J. Sanders takes the bait, get caught, gets caught
- 54:39Speaker 1: flying up field by the wam block. Dean Walker does
- 54:42Speaker 1: actually a decent job, you know, setting and beating the trap.
- 54:46Speaker 1: We're gonna watch Tyler Linderbaum here at center. Watch him
- 54:50Speaker 1: go to mister Matt Malonald. That's why I have Milano
- 54:53Speaker 1: highlighted here. Lindar Baum gets great movement to get to Milano.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Highlight that it goes Lennar Bomb right off the gate,
- 55:03Speaker 1: really great movement. Center just jumps gets in front. Sorry,
- 55:06Speaker 1: I'm trying time in that wrong. There We go, there's
- 55:08Speaker 1: lender bomb, just jumps, sets, get in front, hands, base block.
- 55:13Speaker 1: Here's our hole. Not huge, but enough. Good tackle from
- 55:19Speaker 1: Taylor Rap in depth or from depth shoulder, a little
- 55:23Speaker 1: bit of an alligator turned there or roll there. Good
- 55:25Speaker 1: tackle from Taylor Rap. Shout out to him on this play.
- 55:30Speaker 1: Had a bit of a rough night. Some other aspects
- 55:32Speaker 1: which we're going to talk about again. We're talking about numbers.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Get rid of the circles. Let's talk about numbers in
- 55:41Speaker 1: the box. One two, three, four, five six seven. So
- 55:47Speaker 1: we've got seven in the box. We've got one, two, three,
- 55:53Speaker 1: four five six blockers, so we have seven versus six.
- 55:58Speaker 1: We have got enough numbers for every gap. Hooray. That
- 56:02Speaker 1: is a success from the Bills standpoint. But the unblocked
- 56:08Speaker 1: defender essentially is Taron Johnson on this backside and doesn't
- 56:14Speaker 1: really affect the play. So it still essentially plays out
- 56:16Speaker 1: like six on six and a hat on a hat
- 56:18Speaker 1: for Baltimore and they get a hat on a hat,
- 56:20Speaker 1: bang bang. Nice game, math math, math, over and over.
- 56:32Speaker 1: Positive play here for the Bills third quarter, fifteen minute mark.
- 56:39Speaker 1: This is just some good gapping out play here from
- 56:44Speaker 1: the defense. There goes Benford in motion. I want everybody
- 56:47Speaker 1: to pay attention to Christian Benford. This is going to
- 56:50Speaker 1: be very relatable to the Derrick Henry house call later
- 56:55Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter. Not the exact same thing, but
- 56:58Speaker 1: I want everyone to focus on Benford here and just
- 57:00Speaker 1: remember a little bit of how good of a run
- 57:03Speaker 1: defender he is when times come later. But you just
- 57:06Speaker 1: look at what the Bills got here from a numbers perspective,
- 57:09Speaker 1: one two, three, four, five six seven essentially eight versus
- 57:17Speaker 1: one two, three, four, five, six seven eight. So we've
- 57:23Speaker 1: got eight on eight. But again there's eight blockers. That
- 57:28Speaker 1: means there's nine potential gaps. So you gotta have somebody
- 57:30Speaker 1: do something. Something's got to happen here. They'll just win
- 57:35Speaker 1: on that side. Greg Ruso does a really good job
- 57:37Speaker 1: at the point of attack here, absorbs Henry, rap comes
- 57:40Speaker 1: from the backside finishes. Let's watch here. Bernard highlighted just
- 57:44Speaker 1: run fits numbers front side. Highlight everybody here because everybody
- 57:49Speaker 1: here who highlighted, you know, played a role in this.
- 57:52Speaker 1: Also keep an eye on talking about stunts, right, watch
- 57:56Speaker 1: Ed Oliver. He jumps from B gap what looks like
- 58:00Speaker 1: begap pre snap into the A gap boom. There's that.
- 58:03Speaker 1: Let's also watch Greg Russou. You can't see him because
- 58:05Speaker 1: Milano's got a complete cover, but Greg Russou is right here,
- 58:08Speaker 1: right in front of Matt Milano. You can see Russeau's
- 58:11Speaker 1: moving on the snap like he is gonna stem inside.
- 58:16Speaker 1: But then he reads what's going on here, so he
- 58:18Speaker 1: doesn't completely i should say, doesn't completely slow plays it
- 58:24Speaker 1: and watch him get both those arms to impact both blockers.
- 58:29Speaker 1: Eats this thing up. Here's Milano. Bernard is coming for support.
- 58:35Speaker 1: Watch what you've got here. This is also nice to
- 58:40Speaker 1: pay attention to this for later. So Milano is going outside.
- 58:43Speaker 1: So Benford sees that. Christian Benford number forty seven sees
- 58:47Speaker 1: that it feels it. Watch Benford just playing his feet,
- 58:51Speaker 1: get in the hole, takes on the full back right,
- 58:55Speaker 1: because that's who is coming for Christian Benford. This is
- 58:58Speaker 1: the full back this play here. Benford feels it fits.
- 59:03Speaker 1: Bang Henry doesn't see the space, so he's like, let
- 59:07Speaker 1: me cut back inside. Groot beats his man. Benford's gum
- 59:11Speaker 1: in this thing up. Brousseau is gumming this thing up
- 59:15Speaker 1: and brings down Derrick Henry. So again, if we're talking
- 59:17Speaker 1: about math, we're talking about changing numbers, all of that
- 59:22Speaker 1: kind of stuff. What you've got front side here one two, three,
- 59:30Speaker 1: four blockers for one two three bills defenders, but those
- 59:35Speaker 1: defenders make it work again. You got to find some
- 59:37Speaker 1: way to change the math or somebody's got to win.
- 59:39Speaker 1: Somebody's got to do something. You gotta steal gaps, cancel gaps,
- 59:42Speaker 1: cancel blockers, whatever verbide you want to use, or just
- 59:45Speaker 1: flat out say, somebody's got to win. Bernard's pursuit also
- 59:51Speaker 1: changes this because it makes this man here come off
- 59:54Speaker 1: to go to Bernard, which means this double against group
- 59:58Speaker 1: now becomes a single, which helps group come off and
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: be able to make a play. So change that math
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: a little bit. Change every four on three to somethingly
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: four on four. Somebody comes off their block, makes a play,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: and we get a stop. Play it one more time
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: in real time. You've also we're highlighting Bernard here again.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: It gets a little messy and muddy as they start moving.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: But you've got this slant here from Ed Oliver, right,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: So that means somebody needs to be in this gap.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: Somebody needs to be in this gap. Somebody needs to
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: be over here. And as we go forward. Rap is
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: pursuing this thing from the back. Because if you're playing
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: it again still from a gap perspective, groot head here.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: Bernard is trying to play here. Benford is taking on
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: this man here again, we've essentially got, you know, four
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: on four out here one two oops three four ravens
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: versus one two three four bills. So there's gonna be
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: more gaps than we can account for with bodies. But
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Henry Chess put his foot in the ground, group comes
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: off his block. Let's go to play nine here, Okay,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: play nine. This essentially is just at Oliver the third quarter,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: seven minute, four second mark, second and five ends up
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: becoming a five yard loss. I just wanted to play
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: this because this, uh, this just looks awesome from at Oliver.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna show it from the end zone angle because
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: it shows the displacement and how much he drives his
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: man backwards. That's just watch. M not gonna spend too
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: much time on it. This play is just awesome from
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: att Oliver. Watch it again. He circled, blow that thing up,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: rides Rosengarten right into the backfield, right into Derrick Henry.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Awesome play watch him shoot on the snap. Good get off.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: But watch this moment right here. Watch this shoulder dip.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Watch that right shoulder from our vantage point. Watch it
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: dip to reduce that surface area. Puts his head down.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: Look at the pad level. And again this also takes
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: like core strength and power, because if you have a
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: big dude essentially like climbing onto your back, like he
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: can kind of drive you into the ground or just
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: wash you through. Ed doesn't let that happen. Here, powers through.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: This is core strength, this is leg strength, this is
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: body control. Look how he gets under him. Again, the
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Jets sweep action actually kind of muddies things. Flowers and
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: Rose and Guarden almost hit each other. You see Flowers
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: and Rose and Guard trying to avoid each other because
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: Ed drives him so far back. Henry doesn't even get
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: the chance to do anything and Ed is right there.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: That's just an awesome play from at Oliver. There's nothing
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: really overleas schematic, especially for the sake of time, that
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: I want to go over right now. We just want
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: to show at Oliver this is awesome. That's awesome. That's
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: a crazy good play. Okay, play ten, third quarter, minute,
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: fifty eight three yard game. Good defense, things work out.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Really good play from Dorian Williams. We gonna show it
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: from the sideline angle. First, watch Dorian so you can
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: get appreciation for how he shoots here and makes this
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: play bang. Good play. Good play from Dorian. Watch forty two.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: There he goes, good play. Watch him the end zone
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: angle here, we're gonna show our run fits. I've got
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: my highlighted. I've got Bernard and dion Walker highlighted with
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: the big circle there and then mister Dorrian Williams, we'll
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: start with Dorian watch forty two. Befoor. He's just trying
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: to get to him off of this double team, so
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: they're trying to work that. He's trying to help him
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: a little bit, you know, give him kind of that
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: feeblock and then work his way to Dorian, and Dorian
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: just shoots through, absorbs the contact places through. It doesn't
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: even alter him too much. Is able to bring down
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Henry Dion Walker. It's highlight well him right here, mister
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: ninety six. Hard to miss him. He is huge, lined
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: up in essentially a two, maybe slightly a two wive
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: and essentially a two right over the right guard. Right
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: guard tries to feed him a little bit, so the
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: center can overtake him and then he can come over
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: here to Bernard. Walker muddies this thing a bit. Watch
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: him tork I've rewound this a bunch to see, like
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: does Linderbaum fall right here or is it just Walker
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: torking him? I think it's just Walker torquing him. Just
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: puts him into the ground. Bang. Also watch some fits
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: so here it goes. You're kind of taking a look
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: at everyone here. So here's Solomon Milano is here, Bernard
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: is trying to go here, Walker's trying to go here,
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: Dorrian Williams is trying to go there. So guys are
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: working to their gaps. Bernard takes on Daniel Fallele, who
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: is a also a mountain of a man. You see
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: how he plays it through that outside shoulder. Also, remember
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: so like we just highlighted, okay, everybody here, Okay, you're
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: thinking gap gap gap gap gap right sounds fun, But
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: they're also is that full back in the backfield, so
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: the math is going to change again. You still have
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: this extra blocker, so you're still tough. You need somebody
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: to do something, and that's somebody in this aspect is
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Dory Williams. Shooting, beating the left guard, being able to
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: slice and make this play. Bernard tries to play it safe,
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: but again kind of just muddies this a little bit
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: at the end of the day too. It doesn't have
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: to be the cleanest thing. You don't have to beat
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: your guy. You don't have to completely own somebody. Chuck them,
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: shut them, blow them up. Sometimes it's just make life heart,
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: gum up the works, make it muddy, muck it up,
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: do some kind of something there. And Bernard here does
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: enough to kind of jump in this way to make
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: Henry think, you know what, or also let's watch his eyes.
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: He's thinking, you know what, I think I can get here,
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: and that's understandable. Right Bernard has gone out this way. Linderbaum,
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: you know, if you're looking at from Henry's vantage point,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: Linderbarm's but is right here, so you're thinking, okay, you know,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: maybe I can put my shoulder down get some yards
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: on this play in this aspect some kind of something.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: But Linderbarm start starts getting to the ground before Henry
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: can even get there. Dorian Williams makes a play and
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: then Walker pushes Linderbaum into Henry and it all gets
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: mucked up. I hope I'm not going too fast with
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: any of these in the essence of time. Again, we
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: could if we really went crazy here, we would be
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: here for forever, which might be a bonus to some
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: or some might hate it. This play fourth quarter, eleven minutes. Oh,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: I gotta stop because we got super chat. Thank you
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: very much, picks message, thank you for being here, and
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: thank you for the for the super chat comment. Here
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: is pro underscore, underscore, and thanks for the equal amount
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: of blueberries you always so meticulously add to all my
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: muffins and this quality content. That's super funny. Thank you
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: so much for that. That's awesome. I appreciate the that's
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: just that's I appre I appreciate the Twitter handle reference,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: the casino reference and my intro reference, and the kind
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: words about the content. For being here this is that's awesome.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: I appreciate you. So let's go to this one. Fourth quarter,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: eleven minutes, forty eight seconds, first and ten. This is
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: the forty six yard touchdown to Derek Henry. This is
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: the one I talked about earlier on why I wanted
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: to highlight Christian Benford for doing something good Earlier. Benford
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: looks to have screwed up on this one. We're gonna
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: go through it, but let's just watch it from the
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: sideline angle again. I have these defenders highlighted. Benford, Bernard,
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: Taylor ratt rap because he drops on the snap and
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: ends up getting burned really badly. Also, watch both safeties again.
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: This is where we talk about coverage. Each safety widens,
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: so if you're looking from like a coverage responsibility standpoint,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: they're going to a middlefield, open split field, too high coverage. Okay,
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: let's watch just from the sideline angle. Okay, look at
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: these three. Look at Christian Benford again. We just showed
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: a play a couple of plays ago where Benford stuck
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: his nose in again ballparking get from the play, but
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: stuck his nose in right here. Bernard came here, came
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: off his block and stuck Henry right here right. We
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: showed all that. Watch Benford on this one for whatever reason,
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: and the end zone angles worse. Benford just keeps going outside.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: So now we've got four defenders all right here, which
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: is no bueno. And let's watch Trel Bernard Terrell. Bernard
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: tries to shoot this thing and make the play Linderbaum
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: peels off, gets him huge alley for Henry rap isn't
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: fast enough and it's a house call. The end zone
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: angle is worse. So again, let's watch everything here on
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: the front side aspect of everything, if we are watching
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: from a pre snap alignment standpoint right here, just based
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: off of the movement. So Bernard, Oh, there's too many
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: guys with similar names here. I got Dornyan Williams, Dorian Strong.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: One is forty two and one is forty three. I
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: got Benford, Bernard Oi. Bernard's number change is still throwing
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: me off, and sometimes it looks like a nine. But anyway,
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: watching this fit okay, Dorian's here, grud is here, day
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: Kwan is here. You gotta get He's Benford's got to
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: come back again. I don't know if maybe somebody else
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: screwed up. Benford is supposed to be the outside man.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: He's supposed to be contained or the forest player or whatever.
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: But just off of like seeing this, especially knowing for
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: a you know, one gap penetrating defense like the bills are,
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: you are going to have times where you know you
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: you have to do something to kind of again cancel gaps,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: cancel blockers, there's a lot of movement happening, right. Sometimes
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: it's a forced exchange. You know, we're gonna stunt this guy.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: This guy, the defensive tackle is gonna jump from the
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: B to the A. So the linebacker who is initially
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: aligned in the A is gonna cover the B gap instead,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: you know, scrape exchanges and things like that, or it
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: happens on the fly. You see what head's happening in
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: front of you, and you operate accordingly. Benford just drifts
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: too far outside. Bernard gets sealed by Linderbaum, like I said,
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: and just I mean this, this is just bad regardless,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: but especially against Derrick Henry. And then Rap has the
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: unfortunate task of trying to come up and stop Henry.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: But Henry's already got a full head of steam. Yeah,
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: not great. But oh and also yeah, whoever threw this
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: at Henry? Like, come on, what are we doing? What
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: are we doing? Almost hit him too? What are we
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: doing again? Benford? Just and even if we are playing
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: from a numbers perspective, right, let's watch Linderbaum. Here's the center.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: You know, he's moving. He's looking to try and push
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: uh day Kwon out there. Again, we've got like a
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: you know, a mid zone lead type of play here
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: his own lead. Linderbaum's looking to work, but day Kwon
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: has already kind of taken himself out of here, so
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: Linderbaum's like, okay, cool, let me peel off and seal
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: this guy, which he does. Bang. I still don't know.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: At this point. Benford's kind of pot committed, but he's
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: still you know, he's still moving in this direction. I
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: don't know why. I don't know if he loses. Henry
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: doesn't see it, if he thinks the same thing is
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: going to happen. Is the play before where we called
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: him out where like Henry's just gonna kind of barrel
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: into this mess over here, but you see the bodies
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: like you gotta read this kind of come back in here,
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: but not again. I don't even know. Once he's pot
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: committed and Henry's got up ahead of steam, that's gonna
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: be tough for anybody. But yeah, Benford just gets a
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: little too much outside and what you this is something
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: essentially like everyone is just walled off here, like there's
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: nobody coming free. This is just a mess of bodies.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: Nobody's getting off their blocks. Everybody's just kind of caught
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: within one another. So that's just a win for the offense.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: It's all gummed up, even if it is like essentially
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: four on three, but it's four on four because of
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: the numbers in there. The full backs hat is right there.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: He just barrels in and kind of pushes the pile
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: because Benford essentially takes himself out of the play. Yeah. Also,
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: you know talking about you know, traditional four down front
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: which the bills are one two, three four. You have
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: that natural you know, here's an A gap, here's the
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: B gap. There's that B gap bubble that is naturally present.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: You know when you've got that four down you know,
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: a four to three overfront that the Bills run a ton.
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: So how are we trying to answer that? Yeah, groups here,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: de Kwon's here, Dorian's there. Benford just drifts too much,
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: gets caught. That's not even taken again into account the
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: fullback who changes the math and numbers as well. Bernard
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: gets caught bom and then rap again, Rap is dropping
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: on the snap. I don't want anybody to see this
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: and be like, I don't know why he didn't just
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: immediately see this action and come here. He's a coverage
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: player first and foremost based on the fit on this one,
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: So he's coverage first, so he has to honor his
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: coverage responsibility, just like cold Bishop is honoring his recoverage responsibility.
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: So that's why Rap initially drops, but then he reads
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: run sees that this thing is handed off, and that's
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: why he puts his foot into the ground and we'll
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: let it play and we get a house call. Yeah.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: Also tip your cap to Derrick. Henry is crazy good.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: The Ravens are crazy good. This is nice too. Great
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: timing again by Linderbaum to see this and be like,
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: oh okay, like ninety two is taking himself out of
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: the play. I don't even have to feed too much
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: or kind of give an extra nudge to feel that
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: and know this thing is gone, and then get your
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: eyes back to the mic right and be like, oh okay, boom,
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: because Bernard is trying to undercut that thing and Linderbaum
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: sees it, feels it peels off. Bang. Kudos are them
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: guys working on the backside. Kolar's working on the backside,
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: File is working on the backside. You got a touchdown, Ravens.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: Unfortunately for the Bills, this one here pretty simple, good
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: one for the Bills. Fourth quarter, eight minutes, thirty seven seconds,
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: second down and seven. This is a six yard loss
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: for the Ravens. Matt Milano why I've highlighted he shoots
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: blows up this run. I'm not gonna get into too
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: much of like the math and the change, but this
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: is just a good win and example of you know,
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: a guy's guy, a guy making a play or guy's
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: making a play and being able to change the nature
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: of a play. Watch Milana just time this thing. Shoot ooh.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: Henry's like, oh, get good play for Milano. Just shoot
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: that thing quick trigger. Well the full back. Maybe this
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: looks different if that fullback is pat Riccard. I've also
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: highlighted aj Apanessa and Taekwon Jones from the end zone
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: angle along with mister Matt Milano. So watch Milano shoot
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: the b gap, steps through, Bang meets the full back Epanessa,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: you know, using his length playing that outside to make
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: sure Henry can't go here. That's part of the reason,
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: you know why Henry sees this here and is like okay.
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: He also kind of I think sees this developing and
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: it's like, oh, maybe I want to cut that back
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: and hit there, but Milano really nullifies a whole bunch
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: of it, blows up his man. Then Henry's like, oh, oh
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: that's not there. Let me go this way. Uh oh,
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: here's Aja Panessa that's not available either. Okay, let me
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: go this way. Oh Daykon has now come free. All
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: starts because I'm a lot of blowing that thing up.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: Daikon and aj make a nice play run at real
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: time from the end zone angle. Daikwan is night nice
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: little uh Chuck there, Chuck's seventy two voor h's to
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: the ground or his trips a little bit. Maybe it's
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: a mess on the offensive line, you're always kind of
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: hitting feed and stumbling over each other. That's a great
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: shoot from Milano again, sometimes just cause havoc. It's like
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: playing a video game and just or like the first
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: Triple X movie with Ben Diesel where he's got the
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: rocket launcher and they're like, oh, you were play video games.
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, like just blow stuff up. Last play.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: This is the Force Fumble. Well, this is an awesome
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: play from Ed Oliver, and I just wanted to show
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: it because it's awesome watch Ed Oliver. This is Ed
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: right here. Shoots on. I'm a show from the end
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: zone angle two, shoots gets stiff armed, keeps battling, gets
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: his hand on the ball and just rips that thing out.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: That's not accidental, that's purposeful. He's got a hand on it.
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: That ball gets ripped out. Shoot again, Bills are selling
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: out for the run. Look at all the bodies in
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: the box run first action. Dorian's dropping and Bishop's dropping,
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: but everyone else is essentially pot committed. You've essentially got
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: nine men committed to the run here. You know you're
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: playing like a blitz coverage type of deal and you're
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: just you're just selling out. Also another example, this is
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: a good job here from Benford, even though it doesn't
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: actually end up mattering like watch Benford here comes up,
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: gets outside like, let me be a force player. Make
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: sure this thing doesn't get outside of me. Make sure
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: I'm good he end zone angle, there's at Oliver Highlady.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: We're gonna go on slow mo just so you can
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: appreciate that. Again, similar to what we talked about earlier,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: the angle here of what we got. The Ravens are
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: running power, which means you are going to get the
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: full back kicking out the end man on the line
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: of scrimmage, and then you're going to get the guard
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: pulling and kind of wrapping through the hole. Don't mind
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: my lines, they're not great. So you're trying to get
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: you know, this down block here with Ed inside this gap,
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: and he just beats Rosen Garden to the spot and
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: lilelinderbomb to the spot, squeezes through because he is a
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: little smart. Look at the pad level like linderbombs here,
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: ros and Gardens here, trying to lean. Look where Ed
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: is good pad level, good leverage, good strength, powers his
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: way through, no pun intended. Again, you're trying to get
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: kick out on the end man on the line of scrimmage,
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: trying to get the guard to lead this play through,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: and it just doesn't matter because Ed is there to
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: cut it off. Eats a stiff arm right in the face,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: doesn't matter, keeps battling, rips the ball out. Crazy good
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: play again, I don't want to get anything too scientific
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: or schematic with that one. That's just an awesome play
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: from mett Ali. Or he had a bunch of really
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: good plays in this game. Again, another example. Right, Sometimes
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: it's just somebody makes a play, somebody shoots a gap.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: Sometimes it's a linebacker blitzing like we showed it on
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: the play before. Sometimes it's an into your defensive lineman
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: shooting their gap and making a play. Sometimes it's an
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: edge defender. Sometimes you're changing the math and it's a
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: safety blitz. Right. So it could be somebody just winning
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: their one on one. It could be somebody you know,
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: get it with great get off and getting to a
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: spot before the blocker can't get to a spot. It
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: could be that you have the numbers from a gap
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: perspective and you're gapped out a lot of different ways
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: you can win. Yeah, good times. Let me stop the
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: share would be a good idea. Oh that's because we're
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: not on that falling apart overall one. I hope you
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: folks enjoy that film breakdown overall because this is something
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: I've talked about a ton throughout this offseason. If you
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: folks watch the show, if you watch the film move
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: we follow me on social. I have talked about being
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: worried about the run defense all year. I talked about
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: last year their best friend when it came to the
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: run game was either game script. And when I say
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: in gamescript, I mean you know you get a turnover early,
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: or you force a field goal, maybe force a punt,
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: even though the Bills didn't force a lot of them
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: last year, I think they're like thirty first in punts
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: force per drive. But somehow get some kind of stop,
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: or you don't allow a touchdown. And then you pair
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: that with the offense for the Bills scoring touchdowns and
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: you get out to a fourteen to nothing lead, seventeen
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: to three, twenty one to three twenty one, something like that,
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: and the opponent has to be like, oh, we don't
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: really have the time to run the ball. We got
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: to pass. So that's the game script kind of getting
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: the opponent away from the run. Game that was the
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: Bill's best way to defend the run is game script
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: forcing opponents out of the run. If games were close,
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: teams were able to run the ball successfully against the Bills,
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: and if teams were able to keep running ball because
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: the game was close, the way the Bills would defend
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: the run was gapping out, so you'd walk a safety down.
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: You would want to have numbers. So again, if there
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: was seven blockers, the Bills wanted eight defenders in the box.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: If there was six blockers, they wanted seven, so on
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: and so forth. Right, So it was either gamescript or
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: having to win with numbers. You didn't get enough guys
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: winning individually. You weren't getting enough slants, stunts, something to
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: kind of gum up the works and change the math.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: And you also weren't getting guys just beating their blocks,
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: guys shooting, somebody beating an offensive you know, blocker to
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: a spot, somebody going through their man or beating their man.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: You weren't getting enough of any of that kind of stuff, right,
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: And with my thought this year was it was gonna
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: be a lot of the same because they leaned into
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: more inside Russian penetration. Now, I think the inside Russian
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: penetration guys this year are better than the guys last year.
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: I think Sanders Walker and ogun Jobey when he comes back,
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: are better than Carter and Johnson. But it still speaks
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: to you're not stout. It's not guys that are gonna anchor.
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: It is guys that are smaller and can potentially get
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: blown off the ball. And this is a really good
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: comment from Pete. Pete says the theme for me was
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: far too much horizontal movement on too many zone runs.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: They need to just play fundamentally sound and whole gap
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: sometimes can't shed and penetrate every player, bust. I think
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: that's very well said. Part of the reason too. In
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: this film breakdown again, like the thirteen plays I showed,
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: we could analyze every single player and all the rules
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: of the run fits for all thirteen to those plays.
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: Probably be here for like two hours to really break
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: it down. But to your point, Yeah, like, I'm glad
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: you picked up on that. It's just too much movement.
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: That's what I always talking about, displacement. It could be horizontal,
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: it could be vertical. It's guys getting washed down, guys
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: getting knocked back. You know, a double team gets under
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: somebody and they get knocked back two or three or
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: four yards. Or it's that horizontal piece right on that
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: zone run, you're trying to cross an offensive lineman's face,
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: but they're getting into you. They're washing you down this way,
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: and it's easy for the running back just to go, oh, well,
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: wrong way and cut back right. You're getting pushed this way,
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: the running bound, running book, running back falling apart, you
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: get pushed this way. The running back just fits off
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: that right, And I think again that's symptomatic of the
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: guys the Bills have on the interior. It's guys that
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: aren't able to kind of anchor and put their foot
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: in the ground and hold their gap. It is guys
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: that are based on penetration and your point, it can't
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: be shed and penetrate every player bus But that's how
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: they built their interior. So as disappointing as the run
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: defense was at times, I thought on the film there
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: were some more positives that I don't think I've noticed
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: on the broadcast, and I hope you guys were able
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: to see that here. But I do think the theme
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: of last year is still prevalent on this defense, which
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: is they're gonna have to win with penetration. They're gonna
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: have to win with numbers, and hopefully gamescript helps them out.
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: I was encouraged again by that one that I showed
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: the stunt with Sanders and Solomon and Bernard comes through
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: and Benford, like you see all those pieces working in Tanna.
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: But again that's another example of the coordination and the
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: dance that run fitting is where you need like everybody
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: synchronized and on the same page and seeing the same
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: thing at the same time and you're going here, I'm
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: going there. Our moves are in sync, we're taking the
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: right angles, all of that. It's hard to be that
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: coordinated at all times. But the Ravens are a great
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: run team. They're a great offense in general. They're a
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: problem for all the defenses in the NFL, granted especially
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: so for the Buffalo Bills. So I don't think this
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: was overall a good performance of the Bills run defense.
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: But let's get some more sam size. I think the
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: Jets are a good follow up this week. Really good
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: athletic quarterback, still a good offensive line, even though Elijah
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: Arrah Tucker is out. They're a team that wants to
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: run the football, they want to mash. So it's a
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: good follow up see what the Bills can do and
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: trying to correct in some of these things. And again,
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: they're not all of a sudden gonna get bigger. They're
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: not all of a sudden to become more stout. But
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: what they can do is limit the times where you
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: got two guys in one gap and something is uncovered.
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: You can limit the times where you've got two, three,
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: four guys all getting walled off and creating a huge alley.
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: You can mitigate some of that. But I do think,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: you know, again, we'll see what sample size. I think
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: Michael Hoyt coming back will help a little bit. Oguin
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: Jobe is just more of what they already have on
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: the inside, which is inside Russian penetration. But I do
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: think this is gonna be something will monitor every week
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: just because of the nature of what the Bills are.
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: They're gonna get their They're gonna get some tackles for loss.
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: They're going to you know, gum some stuff up. They're
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: gonna get some stuffs. They are gonna have stuffs in
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: volume and from a stuff rate and percentage perspective. They're
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: also gonna give up ten plus yard runs. They're gonna
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: give up some explosive. They're gonna get gassed, They're gonna
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: get gouged. It is various, sudden, very sudden. It is
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: very much, you know, get them or get got. And
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: that's how the Bills play defense. And I think that's
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: what it's gonna be for this year. They are the
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: Ravens are a bad matchup for them, just like they
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: are for most defenses, but especially so for the Bills.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: And we'll see what happens going forward. I do think
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: there are some things that can clean up. It's not
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: just doom and gloom where it's like, Nope, they pick
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: the wrong body types and the wrong guys. They're screwed,
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: blah blah blah. Also sprinkle in, you know, hopefully TJ.
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: Sanders learns and get some time on task and gets better,
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: saying thing for D. M. Walker, you will add Larry
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: Ogunjobie back, you will add Michael Hoyt. You can change
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: up the rotation and do some different things schematically as
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: well once White comes back. So I don't think it's
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: all doom and gloomy, even from a personnel perspective. Even
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: though I didn't love the personnel selections. I'm fine with
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: some of the players, but just leaning into more of
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: what they already done frustrated me. And I think you
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: folks know that just based off of how much I've
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: talked about it this offseason. But we'll see what happens
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: going forward. So I don't think this is one a
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: performance where you just write it off and say, well,
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: the Ravens are super good and they're a unicorn in
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: an offense, so screw it, where one tozer move on.
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: I do think the problems that we saw in this
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: game were some of the problems we saw last year
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four. The advanced metrics that I read
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: earlier in that game mirror several of those same exact
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: metrics and rankings from twenty twenty four. So I do
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: think the process matters a lot. Not to kind of
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: use that buzzword, but I do think it matters a lot.
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: For this defense and nice comment, and says Ted Washington,
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: where are you? That's funny? Oh wow, oh wow, Thanks Bob,
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: thank you for being here and for the super chat.
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: Thank you very much for this. Bob says, I'll take
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: moving forward for twenty dollars. Alex and Buck played well played. Yeah,
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: got more games, get under your belt. Go from there.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: You're gonna get tested more in the run. The Ravens
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: are a unicorn. You still would like to perform better
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: against the better teams, especially if it's a team that
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: you could likely very well see in the playoffs. Again,
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: Pete says, they did score more points than the other team.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: That's the greatest arithmetic of all. Very true. And you
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: know a win is a win. You want to know
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: on a bigger and better things. So on and so forth,
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: and like James says, yeah, we've got sixteen more games
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: to improve. But I do think a lot of what
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: we saw here will be things that we see going forward.
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: We are going to see displacement throughout the this year.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: You are gonna see guys get washed down horizontally, teams
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: that run downhill, teams that want to run duo. You're
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: gonna see Dean Walker get driven back. You're gonna see T. J.
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: Sanders get driven back. You're gonna see Larry Ogunjobe kind
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: of get driven back. Hold on. Nathan says, the process
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: hasn't gotten us championship caliber defense. I don't mean the process.
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: I mean more of like I mean that more in
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: relation to someone being like, oh who cares, We're want
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: to know, move on to the next game. I mean
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: the process from the standpoint of how did you win
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: the game or how did the game go? Because how
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: sustainable was that win? Like this type of win for
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: the Bills, I don't think it's very sustainable. You can't
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: give up forty points every week and win the game.
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: You can't be one of the worst teams in EPA
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: per rush and give up ten explosive runs per game
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: and think you're gonna win even if you have a
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: great offense, even if you have the MVP, A quarterbacks,
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: so on and so forth. Like I mean more of that,
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: like that type of process, not the traditional Bills process
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: or the seventy six ers process, whoever you want to
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: go with for that. So I didn't mean it in
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: that sense, but I appreciate you for that. And yeah,
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: we'll see what they do going forward. Don't write this
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: performance off, but take it as game one. See what
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: they learn. Course correct, they can't change the body types.
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: They have to dance with the ones they brought, but
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: I do think they can clean up several of the
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: pieces like we showed in this one of guys being
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: in the same gap, guys being out of position. And again,
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: they shouldn't have to deal with too much craziness all
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: the time because the Ravens have good scheme, They've got
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: diverse personnel, they're well coached, they have a good play caller,
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: guys who know how to press the buttons. So I
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: don't think they're necessarily going to be baptized by fire
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: like this every week, But keep an eye on this.
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: This is something that I do think we will be
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: covering a lot. I'm gonna go into some more pieces
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: here as we wind down. But if you folks enjoyed
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: this episode, not saying goodbye yet, but please let me
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: know if you like this type of content, if you
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: prefer this type of disguise coverage episode instead of just
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: you know, Bill's versus Jets matchup, Bill's versus Dolphins matchup.
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: And I know I do it differently than others. I
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: know it's more schematic and x's and o's and the
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: guests that I bring on. But if you folks like
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: this content and this type of action, let me know
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: in the chat now, let me know on social, on Twitter,
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: on Blue Sky, let me know in the comments on YouTube.
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: I hope you folks enjoyed this episode. Something that I
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: always enjoy. One Pie Pizza the best pizza in Buffalo,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: New York. If you were in town for Bill's Ravens,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: I hope you got yourself to One Pie Pizza because
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: it is absolutely phenomenal. If you weren't in town for
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: Bill's Ravens, that's fine. The next time you are in town,
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: come get yourself to One Pie Pizza. Delicious, sweet sauce
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: pie cuppin char pepperoni, homemade blue cheese. They make really
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: great salads too, if that's your thing. They have a
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: variety of pizza toppings and types and whatever you get,
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: chop them up and sprinkle them all evenly across the pie.
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: They also have a pizza named after Cover One and
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: Josh Allen. It's called the Cover One Alan Goat because
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: it has goat cheese on it and a variety of
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: other amazing things. It really is the best pizza in Buffalo,
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: New York. And I don't say that because they sponsor
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: the show. They sponsor the show because I thinky're the
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: best pizza in Buffalo, So get yourself from One Pie Pizza.
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: They also do a catering as well. They have a
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: catering division called Elevated Catering of Buffalo. The links for
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: the catering spot and for One Pipe Pizza can both
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: be found in the episode show notes, whether here on
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: YouTube or whichever podcasting every platform you're listening to this
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: show on. And as I always say, they're really good
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: people making really good food. They do a ton of
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: giving back to the community, Drives Initiatives, Toys for Tots,
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: partnering with SPCA, or partnering with the SPCA, parting with Roswell,
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: partnering with the Alzheimer's Foundation. They're really good people making
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: really good foods, So get yourself. Someone Pie Pizza wanted
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: to grab this comment. JJ says, I wonder if Jordan
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: Phillips being elevated would have helped. I don't mean to
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: be rude, but I know he does not have any
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: run defense capability at all. He's he's another dion Walker,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: and I don't mean that necessarily negatively, but he is
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: not a a run stopper. For as big as a
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: dude as he is. He's not a plugger. He's not
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: a space eater, he's not a block eater, He's not
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: any of that. So I do not think Jordan Phillips
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: would have helped. I also think at this stage, the
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: miles on the tires and where he is, I don't
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: think he has a lot left. So no, I don't
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: think he would have helped, but who knows. I love
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: this comment from Bob. Bob saysmashed the life button. I
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: hate to sell out for this likes of the lifeblood
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: of these streams, and even just selfishly, it takes a
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: lot to chop up all the film, put it together, narrated,
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: all that kind of stuff. So if you enjoyed this
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: episode where you're watching live, now, watching later, whatever have you,
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: please please please and thank you. If you have not already,
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: drop a lke on this video, like so the life
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: blood of these streams. They matter a lot I greatly appreciate,
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: and they help the algorithm, They boost the episode, they
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: boost the channel, all that stuff. So if you haven't already,
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: please please please, and then you drop alight on this video.
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: If you're listening on one of the podcasting apps for platforms,

- 1:34:19Speaker 1: that's awesome. Leave a rating, leave a review. You could
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: do it just to be nice and get five stars.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: Or if you have an actual like piece of feedback
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: or review, feel free to let me know. Let me
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: know in the comments here on YouTube and I see
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: your comment there. Joe Oh, I like this from Joe
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: Joyce's I Think the Show is Great. Gives you a
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: multitude of different perspectives of offense, defense and opponents shows
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: on point and thank you Joey, I appreciate you for that,
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: Thank you very much. So, yeah, hope you folks enjoyed
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: this episode. I enjoyed this episode. It's a lot to
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: put together. But we'll see what we do going forward
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: here and we'll see what we get for Bills. Jets
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: another team that is going to test the Bills on
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: the ground. Who knows, we might be here next Tuesday
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: at nine pm doing the same episode with the you know,
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: breaking down the Buffalo Bill's run defense versus the New
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: York Jets, or it might be something different. So yeah,
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: we uh, we'll see what they do going forward. Again,
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: I don't think, I don't think it's complete time to panic.
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: I do think if they play the Ravens in the
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: playoffs again, it's it's gonna be similar to this and
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: you just can't just you can't just commit fully to
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: stopping the run with Henry and Lamar if you've got
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: say Flowers on the outside, if you've got Rashot Bateman
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: on the outside. Again, in this game, they didn't have likely,
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: they didn't have recards, so they could meet the Ravens
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: in the playoffs and it could be even harder to
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: go against them. The next time. From a chess piece
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: standpoint and a personnel and schematic standpoint. Recard helps a
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: lot as a run blocker, but also in their play
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: action game, like they just do so much, so it
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: could be harder the next time they play Baltimore, but
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: we'll see. Maybe they're a better unit by them, maybe
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: they've cleaned up a lot of their run game fixes.
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: I think that's definitely something to monitor. I hope you
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: folks found a lot of value in this episode. I know,
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: like I talked about on the intro, there's so much
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: to go through when it comes to the science and
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: the schematics of run fits and space and coverage tied
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: to the front and who's part of the run fit
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: and who's not and how it all works. And I
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: didn't want to I wanted to explain enough in this
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: episode without bogging it down too much. So it's a
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: happy medium. So I hope you found this episode entertaining
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: but also found value in it. Questions, thoughts, comments, concerns, feedback.
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: Put it in the YouTube comments, get at me on Twitter,
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: get at me on Blue Sky, get at me in
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: the discord. Whatever you got, well, thank you very much again.
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: Picked message with the super chat. Thank you for still
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: being here, Thank you for the super chat. The comment
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: is and doesn't care how long it'll take. He puts
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: the time in and make a great show hit the like.
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: Thank you very much for that. That is true. I do.
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: I would do these shows for I mean, you folks
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: know the dis Guy's coverage. Episodes in season are usually
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: like two hours plus. But I'm trying to I'm trying
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: to keep everything digestible for the viewer. Even though I
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: love getting into as much detail as possible, I do
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: want to keep things streamlined and digestible while also trying
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: to give enough information, so it's a balancing act. I
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: hope you folks enjoyed this episode. Love this episode. It's
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: good for the Bills to be one to know. We'll
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: see what happens this upcoming week. I'm gonna throw up
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: the tootles, folks banner because we're gonna start to say goodbye.
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: I appreciate all the kind words that are coming through
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: for me right now. Thank you very much. I appreciate
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: everybody who watched live on this episode. Thank you very much.
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: Picks message for both of your superchats, thank you very much,
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: Bob to you for your super chat, all the questions, thoughts, comments, concerns,
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: the back and forth with each other, the questions. For myself,
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: I know I didn't get to as many comments and
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: engagement pieces as I normally do because I was into
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: the film and running that So again, if you have
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: any questions, get at me on social YouTube whatever. Hope
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: you folks enjoyed this episode. Thank you so very much
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: for tuning in, whether live, post live, whatever. Have you
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: drop a like rate review, subscribe, turn on notifications on
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: YouTube for the disguised coverage playlist. Subscribe to the cover
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: one channel. Tell your family and friends and loved ones
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: about this show and about how awesome it is, whether
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: they're Bills fans, football fans, whatever. If you thought this
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: episode was terrible, tell your enemies and try and ruin
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: in their day or night by making them watch this show.
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: No one tech, no crazy big space eater. On the interior,
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: We'll see if the Bills can win with penetration and
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: gap shooting and inside rush. There'll be something to monitor
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: every week. Maybe we'll do that every week on the show.
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: Maybe it'll be something else. I will see you tomorrow, Wednesday,
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: September tenth, for another sort of the cover one film
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: room where Eric Turner and I break down the offensive
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: side of the ball. And yeah, I hope you and
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: your family and friends and loved ones are all doing well.
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: And oh, this is a good comment from James saying,
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: also a piece from Sanko piece. I appreciate you, James says.
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: Next week, pursued angles. That's a huge piece. That's another
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: episode in and of itself, like wraps, Angle on one,
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: Bishops and angle on another. Really good comment. Pursued angles
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: are a huge piece something else that needs to be
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: cleaned up. That's a whole nother aspect that again I like,
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: once I go down that rabbit hole, I can't stop.
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: So yeah, pursued angles, I think goes hand in hand
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: with you know, being sound for gap assignments and run
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: fits great call, James Well said, yeah, I help you. Oh,
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: great comments from Joey. When will the tree get the
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: Halloween decorations once October hits. I'm not one of those
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: start decorating for Halloween in September. I respect those who do,
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: but I'm still just leaving it as Bill's colors with
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: a little I can't really see it, but I've also
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: got oh, I can't see it with my name there,
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: so I just I just I just waste it a
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: whole bunch of time right now doing that. But essentially
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: I've got Bill's colors up top and then like a
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: white and gold kind of celebratory Garland more for like,
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: hey start a football season type of deal. But I
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: will be doing Halloween colors once October starts. I Am
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: not Halloween in September kind of guy. No disrespect shout
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: out to those who do. That's just not me. Once
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: October hits, we will be Halloween decorated. That's a great
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: that's a great question. I wouldn't do this show if
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: the tree wasn't on points, so I appreciate you for that. Joey,
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: thank you for all the kind words from everybody coming
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: into the chat. I just don't pull them up because
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: I think it's corny to pull up nice things about
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: myself when I'm by myself doing these show. But I
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: see them and I significantly appreciate them. And I hope
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: you and your family and friends and loved ones are
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: all doing well and staying safe. Be kind to one another,
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: take care of one another. I will see you when
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: I see you godspeed, and as always go Bills.
