- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, everybody. Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a bonus episode
- 0:13Speaker 1: of Long Story Short the podcast. I'm Megan, I'm Wendy,
- 0:17Speaker 1: and if you're good to the podcast, I am the
- 0:20Speaker 1: life long Hallmark fan. Well, Wendy is the semi reluctant watcher,
- 0:25Speaker 1: and every week we take a look at a recent
- 0:27Speaker 1: Hallmark release and we share our thoughts with you. As mentioned,
- 0:31Speaker 1: this is a bonus episode of our podcast, which means
- 0:34Speaker 1: there's something that it's a bonus too. We have a
- 0:36Speaker 1: regular podcast episode every Tuesday, and this week we talked
- 0:42Speaker 1: about parenting and we got real deep and there were
- 0:45Speaker 1: some tears, and we talk about if we're the parent
- 0:48Speaker 1: we thought we would be and what is life going
- 0:50Speaker 1: to look like after our children leave the house. And
- 0:53Speaker 1: we have gotten a lot of feedback about it being relatable,
- 0:56Speaker 1: so give it a listen if you haven't. Outside of
- 1:01Speaker 1: this podcast, you can always find us on Instagram and TikTok.
- 1:04Speaker 1: We are at Megan and Wendy and you can join
- 1:08Speaker 1: our exclusive Facebook community, which is Girls Gone Hallmark. You
- 1:12Speaker 1: can find by searching in Facebook Girls Gone Hallmark or
- 1:15Speaker 1: clicking the link in our show notes if I remember
- 1:19Speaker 1: to put it there.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Sometimes it's hitteror miss. It's not hitterry miss. I try
- 1:24Speaker 2: to put as many great necessary show notes in there.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Sometimes I forget certain things, like I'll listen back to
- 1:32Speaker 2: the podcast and you're like, it will be in the
- 1:34Speaker 2: show notes, and I'm like, that's not in the show notes. Oops,
- 1:36Speaker 2: my bad. I have so many questions for you when
- 1:42Speaker 2: it comes to this movie. Oh, we're going to talk
- 1:44Speaker 2: about but we'll talk about it later. I'm so curious.
- 1:48Speaker 2: You can also email us at Megan and Wendy at
- 1:50Speaker 2: gmail dot com. Do you want to talk Hallmark? Yeah,
- 1:53Speaker 2: Hallmark News. I got something breaking news. Please, it's not
- 1:57Speaker 2: that breaking. It's like two days ago. E News reports
- 2:00Speaker 2: that Candice Camon Murray shared news about her newest Christmas movie,
- 2:04Speaker 2: which will premiere on the GHAK channel in November. It's
- 2:08Speaker 2: called A Christmas Present, A Christmas Present. The synopsis sounds
- 2:15Speaker 2: like any other CCP movie, but it says, at the
- 2:19Speaker 2: very end of it, and I'm quoting, through a series
- 2:22Speaker 2: of transformative events, Maggie learns to embrace the reason for
- 2:27Speaker 2: this season. Oh no, in the quote, so I'm expecting
- 2:30Speaker 2: a heavy lean towards faith and family in this movie.
- 2:33Speaker 2: She is also executive producer.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Traditional Family Value.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Look, here's what I think about CCP going to GHAK
- 2:43Speaker 1: good rint it.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, so I guess you're not going to
- 2:46Speaker 2: watch it?
- 2:46Speaker 1: No, No, IM be able not to give GHAK any
- 2:50Speaker 1: of my views, any of my eyes. I don't think
- 2:53Speaker 1: it is long for this world. I don't. I don't
- 2:57Speaker 1: think they're gonna make it okay.
- 2:58Speaker 2: So that's an interesting point because I was thinking that too.
- 3:01Speaker 2: My thought exactly was I can't wait till they fold
- 3:04Speaker 2: and then all these who have signed exclusive deals with
- 3:07Speaker 2: them are gonna be crawling back to Hallmark. And then
- 3:09Speaker 2: I was like, oh gosh, maybe our listeners will like
- 3:13Speaker 2: be like Wendy's so hateful to think something like that.
- 3:16Speaker 2: But but do you think CCB will come crawling back
- 3:21Speaker 2: to Hallmark?
- 3:22Speaker 1: Well, she is an executive with GHEK. She's not just
- 3:26Speaker 1: an actress, right, Like, she has a big role. I
- 3:29Speaker 1: don't wish for anyone's personal demise yea, No, but this
- 3:33Speaker 1: is a channel that was founded on hate and exusionary programming,
- 3:42Speaker 1: like they weaponize a term family friendly. So I just
- 3:45Speaker 1: hopefully I'll go on to other projects. I don't know
- 3:48Speaker 1: if Hallmark is gonna welcome her back after she made
- 3:50Speaker 1: such a visible exit. I'm not sure that Hallmark needs her.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Her movies were not the top performing movies of the
- 3:56Speaker 1: last several seasons. She's kind of been usurped as the
- 3:59Speaker 1: Queen of Christmas. Y. Yeah, so let's just refresh things.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Keep it moving.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going forward, not backward. I'm way into keeping
- 4:07Speaker 2: it moving. It would be interesting to see if, like
- 4:10Speaker 2: she says, you know, I can't go back to Hallmark
- 4:13Speaker 2: because it's against everything that she believes in. But I
- 4:18Speaker 2: wonder if like that paycheck out ways, I would hope
- 4:20Speaker 2: that Hallmark wouldn't show her the money back.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I hope that they've moved on from that.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Yes, so do I.
- 4:28Speaker 1: In other Hallmark news, we are currently in the middle
- 4:30Speaker 1: of the Fall into Love programming, which is really programming
- 4:34Speaker 1: in name only. They put some leaves on a chiron.
- 4:37Speaker 1: They run it below the movies, but we've yet to
- 4:39Speaker 1: really see a Fall movie. Looks like that might change,
- 4:43Speaker 1: because in October we have two movies that at least
- 4:46Speaker 1: the names are very Fall specific, Like on Saturday, October eighth,
- 4:54Speaker 1: we have Pumpkin Everything, Oh God, And on Saturday October fifteenth,
- 4:58Speaker 1: we have Autumn in the City.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Okay, names alone Ottom in the City. Is that intrigues
- 5:04Speaker 2: me the most? Pumpkin Everything?
- 5:06Speaker 1: What is that even about? Yeah? I just looked at
- 5:09Speaker 1: the titles and I thought, well, all these were trying.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Here is a synopsis of Pumpkin Everything. Amy, an up
- 5:14Speaker 1: and coming novelist, returns to her hometown to look after
- 5:17Speaker 1: her stubborn grandfather Tom and his pumpkin themed store while
- 5:21Speaker 1: confronting an old flame from her past. Stars Taylor Cole,
- 5:24Speaker 1: Corey Severe, Michael Ironside, Corey Severe, we've seen recently. He
- 5:29Speaker 1: was in road Trip Romance, okay.
- 5:33Speaker 2: And Taylor Cole wasn't she? And she was in that
- 5:37Speaker 2: Miami movie. Yeah, Miami movie.
- 5:40Speaker 1: No, I can't stand Look, I just want to say
- 5:42Speaker 1: that a pumpkin themed store is dustined to fail all
- 5:45Speaker 1: but eleven months out of the year.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Yeah, dumb, like a Christmas museum that opens on Christmas Eve.
- 5:52Speaker 2: If you know you know that? Go on.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Autumn in the City. Stars Amy T. Garden and ever
- 5:57Speaker 1: and Roderick. Okay, I'm in for Amy T.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Garden.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I don't know who Evan Roddick is optimistic. Piper gives
- 6:05Speaker 1: herself two months to find her passion in New York
- 6:07Speaker 1: City as she bounces between temp jobs, she and her
- 6:10Speaker 1: jaded neighbor discovered the beauty of the city together. Hey,
- 6:14Speaker 1: I can get down with that me too, Okay, Is
- 6:16Speaker 1: it supposed to be New York City?
- 6:18Speaker 2: Oh?
- 6:19Speaker 1: Filmed in Vancouver? Likely?
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 6:21Speaker 1: Another Hallmark News with Wendy and I were discussing the
- 6:24Speaker 1: Emmys earlier this morning, and I love the show Abbott
- 6:29Speaker 1: Elementary very much. Wendy has watched it and enjoys it.
- 6:32Speaker 2: I do enjoy it. Yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 1: They did well at the Emmys, both Cheryl Lee Ralph
- 6:36Speaker 1: and Quinta Brunson one Emmy's and if you haven't watched
- 6:39Speaker 1: Chryl Lee Ralph's Emmy acceptance speech, it's a tear jerker hartially,
- 6:43Speaker 1: just because of the reactions of those around her. The
- 6:46Speaker 1: entire audience gives her a standing over right, everyone's so
- 6:49Speaker 1: excited for her. I saw footage of her children from
- 6:54Speaker 1: up above just like going absolutely bananas when she won,
- 7:00Speaker 1: which was very exciting. Cool. I had heard that Quinta
- 7:04Speaker 1: Brunson wanted to put her in the show and wrote
- 7:06Speaker 1: the role specifically for her, which I love too. Did
- 7:10Speaker 1: a little pruisal. Ever. IMDb, she has over one hundred
- 7:12Speaker 1: acting credits, including Hallmark movies like Christmas Comes Twice and
- 7:17Speaker 1: Christmas in My Heart. In the last couple of years.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I remember Christmas Comes Twice. That was like the first
- 7:23Speaker 2: holiday season that I heard your stomach. That was the
- 7:27Speaker 2: first holiday season that we reviewed movies. Yes, I'm not
- 7:31Speaker 2: familiar with the other one. Though you did not watch it.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I did it.
- 7:36Speaker 1: It was a nice it was a fine movie. It
- 7:38Speaker 1: was she plays someone's mother. Of course.
- 7:40Speaker 2: It was the one and only holiday movie featuring women
- 7:45Speaker 2: of color, one of the few. I'm hoping that's different
- 7:49Speaker 2: this year. Yeah, bring on the diversity.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Yes, we don't really have a lot of additional countdown
- 7:55Speaker 1: to Christmas information. Yet they're holding out till the very
- 7:58Speaker 1: last minute.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Guess so they're trying to button down the details themselves.
- 8:03Speaker 2: I think that's right.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Are you ready for a synopsis?
- 8:05Speaker 2: I am? Are you ready? Abby is a successful executive
- 8:10Speaker 2: moving to Paris and planning to marry Edward. Life is
- 8:13Speaker 2: perfect until she learns her divorce to high school sweetheart
- 8:17Speaker 2: Luke is not exactly official news.
- 8:20Speaker 1: And no, it's about Mary go Round.
- 8:23Speaker 2: The title of this movie always is a throwback to me,
- 8:28Speaker 2: and I'm gonna ask and we may have had I'm
- 8:31Speaker 2: having super dat chavvy right now. Either we've had this
- 8:33Speaker 2: conversation before. Okay, because Megan and I grew up like
- 8:38Speaker 2: adjacent to each other. Didn't know it. Our towns were
- 8:41Speaker 2: adjacent to each other in.
- 8:42Speaker 1: The same town. Actually, you grew up bananahih Mills. Are
- 8:46Speaker 1: you a Bana Miils? I thought you were at Phillip
- 8:47Speaker 1: Park until I was in high school.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Oh? Interesting, Okay, So you remember Marry Me Bridle of course. Okay,
- 8:55Speaker 2: my neighbor owned that place.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Okay, but it was.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Mary, not in a R y. It was m E
- 9:02Speaker 2: r r y like Christmas.
- 9:04Speaker 1: It was I believe so because we always made like a.
- 9:10Speaker 2: No, it's m A r oh that's okay, my bad.
- 9:15Speaker 2: I knew something want Mary m A r y Mary
- 9:20Speaker 2: Me Bridle. It looks like it still exists, not in
- 9:23Speaker 2: that same location anymore. But anyway, the title of this
- 9:27Speaker 2: movie reminds me of that Bridle shop.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I actually got something for my wedding from that Bridle shop.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Did you all right? So, Mary Grand what kind of
- 9:33Speaker 2: news and notes do you have?
- 9:35Speaker 1: Well? Amanda Schule, who plays Abbe Foster. Of course I
- 9:38Speaker 1: know her best from Center Stage?
- 9:40Speaker 2: Dude, are you reading my notes? Center Stage is one
- 9:43Speaker 2: of my top five favorite movies, so I always watch it.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Right now, let's meet to you. According I love that movie.
- 9:48Speaker 1: The final scene. I mean, it's so unbelievable with her
- 9:50Speaker 1: like immediate costume changes of color.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Yes, yes, but it's so good. So that movie came
- 9:55Speaker 2: out in the year two thousand, which really like twenty
- 9:59Speaker 2: two years ago. I sat in the movie theater Oh
- 10:02Speaker 2: with my friend Tracy after work when I loved her.
- 10:06Speaker 2: It has great music in it has great dancing in it.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I just love that movie so much.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Probably is problematic with like the teacher student relationship, for sure,
- 10:16Speaker 1: I'm just gonna let it.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely.
- 10:19Speaker 1: She also had a recurring role on Suits, which is
- 10:21Speaker 1: the show my husband and I liked very much.
- 10:23Speaker 2: I saw she was in Pretty Little Liars Too, which
- 10:25Speaker 2: I only watched like the first couple seasons of I
- 10:28Speaker 2: don't remember her when I watched it. Your dog is
- 10:32Speaker 2: snoring if you can, it's so dank cute.
- 10:34Speaker 1: We also have Brennan Elliott in this movie, who plays
- 10:36Speaker 1: Luke Walker, and Brennan Elliott announced on Twitter recently that
- 10:42Speaker 1: he started filming his quote very special Christmas movie on
- 10:47Speaker 1: August twenty ninth, but he's not allowed to share more,
- 10:50Speaker 1: but he will when he can, and he believes will
- 10:52Speaker 1: premiere in December. So I am he is a Hallmark
- 10:57Speaker 1: leading dude. I am glad to see he'll get a
- 11:00Speaker 1: Christmas movie. I think Hallmark could be kinder to him
- 11:04Speaker 1: in the scripts that they give him, oh, because I
- 11:07Speaker 1: think he can do better than what he's given. Okay,
- 11:11Speaker 1: that's interesting.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I was first introduced to him in twenty twenty one's
- 11:17Speaker 2: Open by Christmas, which also start the girl from Days of.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Our Lives Allie Sweeney.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Yes, I really liked him in that movie, but since
- 11:24Speaker 2: then has kind of fallen flat for me and what
- 11:26Speaker 2: I've seen. He was in like The Perfect Pairing, which
- 11:29Speaker 2: was like a wine movie.
- 11:30Speaker 1: A bad movie.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm like, give him better roles. Like, I don't
- 11:34Speaker 2: remember specifically what I liked about him and Open by Christmas,
- 11:38Speaker 2: either he was funny or I don't know. I just
- 11:41Speaker 2: remember being like drawn to him.
- 11:43Speaker 1: He plays the host on Oh Yes, Unreal correct Reel,
- 11:48Speaker 1: and I like that character because it's definitely trying to
- 11:51Speaker 1: be Chris Harris. Chris Harrison. I was like, Jeff is
- 11:55Speaker 1: wrong for her Bachelor host. Yeah yeah, but that's definitely
- 11:58Speaker 1: who his character was designed off. Oh I think he
- 12:01Speaker 1: plays kind of that slazy, gross host.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Well, I just bought more from him, and I think
- 12:06Speaker 1: he can do more. And then I see photos of him,
- 12:09Speaker 1: I'm like, look, you're so handsome, but they kind of
- 12:11Speaker 1: make you like real milk toast in these Hallmark movies.
- 12:14Speaker 1: That's perfect, and I think he could be a little
- 12:19Speaker 1: more smoldery. Yeah.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Here's the other thing though, I just noticed that him
- 12:23Speaker 2: and I were born the same year, hm, which I
- 12:27Speaker 2: am forty seven years old, and I need him to
- 12:31Speaker 2: play roles that are age appropriate for him. M hmm,
- 12:35Speaker 2: Like you know they sometimes will put him in well no,
- 12:38Speaker 2: let me think now, I might be eating crow because
- 12:42Speaker 2: open by Christmas. Why do I want to call her Sammy?
- 12:46Speaker 1: Is that her name? Life?
- 12:48Speaker 2: Oh my god? Okay, Alison Sweeney. She's a woman of
- 12:53Speaker 2: a mature woman.
- 12:56Speaker 1: She's our age.
- 12:58Speaker 2: But what I want from home Mark is not movies
- 13:02Speaker 2: featuring thirty year old men and women who have never
- 13:05Speaker 2: been married before. And I want movies that are made
- 13:09Speaker 2: with people my age.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I do hear what you're saying. I don't want this
- 13:14Speaker 1: first love, yes, second chance romance, change of life.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I've lived right.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Let me see the aspirational version of my forty something
- 13:27Speaker 1: self in these movies exactly.
- 13:29Speaker 2: So that's why I want to see Brennan Elliott in
- 13:32Speaker 2: like a divorced dad or yeah, you know what I mean,
- 13:37Speaker 2: something like that less milk toast. Yeah.
- 13:41Speaker 1: This movie was directed by David Weaver, who has directed
- 13:43Speaker 1: a ton of Hallmark movies twenty since twenty sixteen, he
- 13:47Speaker 1: has over thirty directing credits, most recently A Royal Runaway romance,
- 13:51Speaker 1: Butler's in Love and Open by Christmas.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Christmas. Yeah.
- 13:55Speaker 1: I also a raise a glass to love. I have
- 13:56Speaker 1: one final note about this movie. That is the theme
- 13:59Speaker 1: park and the Merry Go Round feature heavily.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:02Speaker 1: According to Amanda Schule, the theme park is a real location.
- 14:05Speaker 1: It's an actual theme park.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Uh huh.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I could not find any information about what theme park
- 14:10Speaker 1: it is. However, the Merry Go Round in the theme
- 14:12Speaker 1: park are separate locations. The Merryground is more of a museum.
- 14:16Speaker 1: It's a one hundred year old structure, but it is
- 14:18Speaker 1: not in the same location as the theme park.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Okay, thank you for that note, because they were calling
- 14:23Speaker 2: that like a carnival, right with like theme park ride.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Yeah exactly. I was like, this is not a carnival
- 14:31Speaker 2: that a local community story on. This is an established
- 14:34Speaker 2: business apparently. I have a question for you thinking about
- 14:38Speaker 2: first loves. Were you dating somebody when you were eighteen
- 14:42Speaker 2: years old?
- 14:43Speaker 1: Yes?
- 14:44Speaker 2: Could you imagine having married that person?
- 14:49Speaker 1: No?
- 14:49Speaker 2: Right, eighteen is so young. I'm not saying like it
- 14:54Speaker 2: doesn't work out, like, but I think your priorities at
- 14:59Speaker 2: eighteen are so friend than they are as you get older,
- 15:01Speaker 2: even like post college. Yeah, there no.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Shade to that person, who I doubt is listening to
- 15:06Speaker 1: this podcast, but he would not.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Have wanted to marry me either, right right, Now, here's
- 15:11Speaker 2: my next question. What if your daughter or a son
- 15:16Speaker 2: came to you at eighteen and was like, I'm gonna
- 15:18Speaker 2: get married.
- 15:19Speaker 1: You know, that's so hard because I just don't think
- 15:23Speaker 1: you know who you are, right, But at that point,
- 15:26Speaker 1: whose decision is it?
- 15:27Speaker 2: I know, I know, I know, I know, And then
- 15:31Speaker 2: we'll talk more about the mom later and her interference
- 15:34Speaker 2: with that. So as I watched this movie, I was like,
- 15:38Speaker 2: who do I relate to? More? The mom here, who
- 15:40Speaker 2: I thought was a terrible person. Or do I support
- 15:46Speaker 2: this eighteen year old girl wanting to forge her own
- 15:48Speaker 2: way and her own relationships? You know?
- 15:50Speaker 1: Now, my husband and I met and fifty three weeks
- 15:54Speaker 1: later we were married. Six months later, six months later
- 15:56Speaker 1: we got engaged. Six months later we got married. And
- 16:00Speaker 1: the kids are like, yeah, but you guys got married fast.
- 16:02Speaker 1: And yes, seventeen years later we're still married. But there
- 16:05Speaker 1: is no rush. Just live your life right, do not
- 16:10Speaker 1: have rush. And I do think we are seeing a
- 16:12Speaker 1: little bit of a turn. But I'm telling you, when
- 16:13Speaker 1: I got married at twenty five, so many of my
- 16:15Speaker 1: friends were married.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Oh me too. I felt a pressure at twenty five,
- 16:18Speaker 2: d am married. Yeah, I was. I remember feeling like
- 16:22Speaker 2: depressed because like so many of my friends were getting
- 16:25Speaker 2: engaged and I was like, it's still hadn't happened. And
- 16:27Speaker 2: I was with my current husband, my current husband, my
- 16:31Speaker 2: first husband, my now husband then, but I was like,
- 16:34Speaker 2: I want to get engaged too. I know.
- 16:36Speaker 1: My husband's like, you just wanted to get engaged. I'm like,
- 16:38Speaker 1: that's not true. We didn't just want to get engaged,
- 16:40Speaker 1: but I did. I did feel that pressure. Yeah, and
- 16:43Speaker 1: I hope my kids don't feel that at twenty five,
- 16:45Speaker 1: when you are still essentially a baby. I know, I know. Okay,
- 16:49Speaker 1: what's your first impression of this movie?
- 16:52Speaker 2: I kind of touched on it in just a few
- 16:54Speaker 2: minutes ago. But could the mom be the most unlikable
- 16:56Speaker 2: Hallmark character to ever exist?
- 16:58Speaker 1: An excellent point, and you I wished for the pace
- 17:03Speaker 1: of the second half throughout the entire movie. What's that mean?
- 17:06Speaker 2: I don't understand.
- 17:08Speaker 1: That was poorly paced. The first half was slow. I
- 17:11Speaker 1: don't even remember was it. Here's what happened the first
- 17:14Speaker 1: half of the movie. There's so much set up. It's
- 17:17Speaker 1: Abby has this job, and her job is moving to Paris,
- 17:20Speaker 1: and Abby's getting married, and here is her fiance and
- 17:23Speaker 1: she is that she's not actually divorced, so she can't
- 17:26Speaker 1: get her marriage license, so she has to go home.
- 17:28Speaker 1: And here's her ex husband who left her when she
- 17:30Speaker 1: was eighteen, and now her mom has a secret, and
- 17:32Speaker 1: she's acting weird, and oh, by the way, her ex
- 17:35Speaker 1: husband is also acting weird and like there's something she
- 17:38Speaker 1: doesn't know. But it's been twenty freaking years. There's just
- 17:41Speaker 1: so much setup and nothing is actually happening.
- 17:46Speaker 2: I need you to recap every movie like that from
- 17:49Speaker 2: now on, because that was amazing. I loved it, Okay,
- 17:53Speaker 2: I understand, I understand. So I get the sense you
- 17:57Speaker 2: hated this movie.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Tell me what you liked. I didn't hate it. I
- 18:00Speaker 1: love it. Nie Ruthie's band actually good.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Oh my god, they were amazing. I was expecting a band.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I didn't expect like two girls on a guitar. Yeah,
- 18:12Speaker 2: but it was great. I thought this movie was really pretty.
- 18:15Speaker 2: To look at the scenery, the carnival and I'm gonna
- 18:18Speaker 2: say carnival. The homes were visually appealing to me, and
- 18:22Speaker 2: it like was ticking those fall boxes for me, even
- 18:25Speaker 2: though it wasn't like set during fall, right.
- 18:30Speaker 1: It wasn't not fall, yes, like it was obviously summer,
- 18:35Speaker 1: like we get sometimes.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Right, And I have a note here and now, since
- 18:38Speaker 2: we just talked about like living in the same city,
- 18:42Speaker 2: maybe maybe we've talked about this before too watching this,
- 18:46Speaker 2: and maybe it was just this time of year. But
- 18:48Speaker 2: like when I was in high school.
- 18:50Speaker 1: The local Catholic church totally San Antonio's Carnival.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Antonio Festival every September was such a huge draw for
- 19:01Speaker 2: the community. They had rides, they have food. I remember
- 19:03Speaker 2: they had a beer garden for like the parents, and
- 19:06Speaker 2: like the parents went to the beer guarden and all
- 19:08Speaker 2: the kids would just ride the rides and hang out
- 19:10Speaker 2: and play, and like it was. I had looked forward
- 19:13Speaker 2: to it every September after school started. Yeah, loved it
- 19:17Speaker 2: so much, and like, wish my community had something like that. Yeah,
- 19:22Speaker 2: and this movie made me feel that, Like I was
- 19:23Speaker 2: like feeling very melancholy, like I want a carnival. I
- 19:27Speaker 2: want a carnival. Damn it.
- 19:29Speaker 1: We had a move.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Why can't we have one where we live.
- 19:32Speaker 1: It's just more fun to have it in a small town,
- 19:34Speaker 1: you guys.
- 19:34Speaker 2: I think I need a new shirt that says I
- 19:35Speaker 2: want a carnival. Damn it. I need a fall fast
- 19:40Speaker 2: damn it.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Take me to your fall festival.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Yes, So it just was visually very pretty.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I liked Leo stepdad Leo when he tells Abby's mom,
- 19:52Speaker 1: it's not about you. I love that. I loved that,
- 19:58Speaker 1: and I don't I don't know what it is about
- 20:00Speaker 1: a stepdad more than a dad character that I like.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I would have liked it in a dad character too,
- 20:04Speaker 1: but I liked it. He was on Abby's side, and
- 20:07Speaker 1: he wasn't afraid to be like, what is going on
- 20:09Speaker 1: with you? Early on the mom's acting weird and he's like,
- 20:11Speaker 1: is something going on? He was able to be on
- 20:13Speaker 1: both of their sides while doing the right thing right right.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I loved Leah.
- 20:18Speaker 2: I liked him too. But there was this one line
- 20:21Speaker 2: that he said to Abby about like forgiveness, and I
- 20:24Speaker 2: was like laying it on a little thick dude, Like
- 20:27Speaker 2: he was telling her, like to forgive her mom basically.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Yeah, because there's no I get I mean, I get
- 20:34Speaker 1: that because her mom was terrible and we should talk
- 20:36Speaker 1: about that. But I think that's more of like a
- 20:39Speaker 1: gift to Abby, Like it's not gonna holding that and
- 20:44Speaker 1: being angry about that. It's not going to benefit you.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean like she needed to hold
- 20:50Speaker 1: her mom accountable. And I think she did hold her accountable.
- 20:52Speaker 1: She wasn't like I forgive you, She was like, you
- 20:55Speaker 1: hurt me.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Yeah. I felt like I could identify with that mom.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Like I was like, no, not that I could identify
- 21:00Speaker 2: with what you're saying. I was like, I might end
- 21:03Speaker 2: up being that mom, you know what I mean. It
- 21:05Speaker 2: was like a real wake up call. I was like
- 21:08Speaker 2: I don't want to be that mom. I don't want
- 21:10Speaker 2: to be that mom that medals.
- 21:11Speaker 1: No.
- 21:13Speaker 2: I really liked Amanda School. I think she's a solid actor. Yeah,
- 21:17Speaker 2: and she plays things very like, very non hallmarky for me,
- 21:22Speaker 2: it's not like this, Oh everything is wonderful and you
- 21:25Speaker 2: know what I mean. She's very even cute. However, I
- 21:30Speaker 2: thought there were times in this movie that it should
- 21:32Speaker 2: have had more emotion from her, and she was upset
- 21:35Speaker 2: about things, but like I would have flipped the f out. Yeah,
- 21:38Speaker 2: you know if I found out like my parent had
- 21:40Speaker 2: lied to me for twenty years. So anyway, I still
- 21:43Speaker 2: think she's like a really good actor.
- 21:45Speaker 1: I liked both actors separately, but I had a hard
- 21:47Speaker 1: time rooting for them together.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Oh you didn't like them together at all? No chemistry
- 21:52Speaker 2: between them or what. I thought they were fine interesting.
- 21:57Speaker 2: I wasn't desperate for them to end up together. Okay,
- 22:00Speaker 2: you desperate for her and Edward to end up together.
- 22:02Speaker 1: No, sometimes they pit the fiance. He was about to
- 22:05Speaker 1: become the ex fiance as a bad guy, and they
- 22:07Speaker 1: didn't do that. I thought they made Edward a perfectly
- 22:10Speaker 1: fine guy, and I thought his reaction was reasonable, Like,
- 22:14Speaker 1: you never told me you were married, and then when
- 22:15Speaker 1: he shows up, he's like, if you have unfinished business?
- 22:19Speaker 1: I liked that instead of being like, what's going on here?
- 22:21Speaker 2: So then can we move on to what we wished
- 22:23Speaker 2: for them? Yeah, because I have that note exactly. I
- 22:26Speaker 2: thought they did him dirty in this movie. Oh he
- 22:28Speaker 2: was played by Zach Santiago. I mean, he was such
- 22:31Speaker 2: a good guy, but almost a pushover when he comes
- 22:34Speaker 2: and sees them dancing at the concert and he tells
- 22:37Speaker 2: her if you haven't finished business, but he was too
- 22:40Speaker 2: nice about it. You're getting married, and you're invested in
- 22:43Speaker 2: a relationship, and you're going to be moving to a
- 22:45Speaker 2: different country with this person, and.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I just expect more.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Of a fight. I guess I can't imagine like telling
- 22:53Speaker 2: you my husband, no, I couldn't have unfinished business.
- 22:56Speaker 1: You that I'm not that person. But I did like
- 22:59Speaker 1: that he was the bigger person. I felt like that
- 23:02Speaker 1: was the action of someone who's like, the end goal
- 23:04Speaker 1: is I want to be with this person, and so
- 23:06Speaker 1: what are the steps I need to take. I want
- 23:08Speaker 1: her to be here if she wants to be here,
- 23:11Speaker 1: and not because I'm forcing her to make a decision
- 23:14Speaker 1: or angrily confronting. Yeah, I just was like pushover the mom. Yes,
- 23:23Speaker 1: her eighteen year old I thought it was kind of confusing.
- 23:27Speaker 1: She gets into college and her mom wants her to
- 23:30Speaker 1: go and doesn't feel like she'll go she's married.
- 23:33Speaker 2: I guess did she not know that.
- 23:35Speaker 1: She had applied for college before she got married? Why
- 23:38Speaker 1: could they not go to college together?
- 23:40Speaker 2: I mean he could have gotten a job or went
- 23:43Speaker 2: to community college when she went to Princeton.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Yeah, what I understood the mom's concern, Like, you're eighteen,
- 23:50Speaker 1: don't throw your life away. You have this huge opportunity.
- 23:53Speaker 1: But if you're that mom, wouldn't you feel like you
- 23:56Speaker 1: could go to your kid and be like, hey, what's
- 23:58Speaker 1: the next step here? Like how when we support you,
- 24:01Speaker 1: you have this great opportunity. What's that gonna look like
- 24:04Speaker 1: for you? Guys?
- 24:06Speaker 2: Absolutely? But instead she got in the middle of it.
- 24:09Speaker 1: If you don't leave her, it'll ruin her life.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Yeah, way to put it on.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Now. My question to you is your luke, and the
- 24:19Speaker 1: mom comes to you and says, if you don't leave her,
- 24:20Speaker 1: it'll ruin your life.
- 24:21Speaker 2: If I'm an eighteen year old luke, I'm like GTFO lady.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Yeah, but if you if you do leave, do you
- 24:31Speaker 1: never say anything to her? Even when she comes back
- 24:34Speaker 1: in town, she's like, you left me. You don't at
- 24:36Speaker 1: that point say.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Like your mom is a bare laly Yeah, absolutely, say like, well, actually,
- 24:41Speaker 2: what loyalty does he have to the mom? None?
- 24:45Speaker 1: Yeah, because she wasn't thinking of him.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and he looks like the bad guy all the
- 24:49Speaker 2: last twenty years.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, Okay. My other question is, you are eighteen,
- 24:54Speaker 1: you get married, you're only married for a month. Twenty
- 24:57Speaker 1: years later, you're engaged, you start dating someone. Is it
- 25:00Speaker 1: a big deal to be like, Yeah, I had a
- 25:01Speaker 1: marriage at eighteen and it didn't last. No, Like when
- 25:06Speaker 1: I was a literal child, I got married, it didn't
- 25:09Speaker 1: work out for whatever reason. And I'm sure she's embarrassed,
- 25:12Speaker 1: Like she woke up one day and he was gone, Yeah,
- 25:14Speaker 1: but now you're an adult and you can be like,
- 25:15Speaker 1: well that really sucked.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:17Speaker 1: I didn't keeping that the secret. I didn't think that
- 25:20Speaker 1: was necessary. I felt like he could have known that
- 25:24Speaker 1: she was married, and then it comes out like, oh,
- 25:27Speaker 1: turns out we're not actually divorced, and I gotta go
- 25:29Speaker 1: back adding in this whole secretive piece. Yeah, felt unnecessary.
- 25:32Speaker 2: I agree.
- 25:34Speaker 1: You know what.
- 25:34Speaker 2: I one last thing I kind of wished for in
- 25:37Speaker 2: this was that they didn't really show us. I need
- 25:41Speaker 2: them to show us, like what made their marriage as
- 25:46Speaker 2: teenagers so wonderful?
- 25:47Speaker 1: Their relationship?
- 25:48Speaker 2: Yeah, their relationship, Like all we ever see is them
- 25:51Speaker 2: on the merry ground either right, exactly, only see it
- 25:53Speaker 2: like the proposal. Yeah, but what was so wonderful? I
- 25:57Speaker 2: just needed more context.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I'm ready for did you see that?
- 26:00Speaker 2: I got one? Just one? Okay, and it's more of
- 26:02Speaker 2: a complaint.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Oh, there's the scene towards the end of the movie.
- 26:06Speaker 2: When Abby's giving Edward the ring back and Edward tells Abby,
- 26:11Speaker 2: I deserve all of you, and I'm like, shut up,
- 26:15Speaker 2: men don't deserve women. I just wish the line was
- 26:20Speaker 2: I want all of you, you know, because he didn't
- 26:25Speaker 2: want to be with her, because she was like torn
- 26:27Speaker 2: between like him and Luke, right, And I just thought
- 26:31Speaker 2: it was like gross to be like, I'm such a
- 26:33Speaker 2: good guy, I deserve all of you.
- 26:36Speaker 1: That's so funny. We had such a different read on
- 26:38Speaker 1: him because that line, to me, I was like, well,
- 26:41Speaker 1: this is such a departure from like take care of
- 26:43Speaker 1: your unfinished business. All of a sudden, he's like kind of.
- 26:46Speaker 2: A hard, moody mermaid.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Yeah, but switch the roles if she's like if it's
- 26:52Speaker 1: the complete opposite situation. He has this former wife that
- 26:57Speaker 1: he's still hung up on, and she says, I deserve
- 26:59Speaker 1: all of you. I think it makes sense, Like I'm.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Hung up on the word deserve, but I think you.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Do deserve one hundred percent of the commitment of your
- 27:10Speaker 1: partner if to commit to them.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Yes, I agree, but I think, yeah, the read is different.
- 27:21Speaker 2: I just felt like he was like, I'm a good guy.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I deserve all of you.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Yeah, And so you wanted him to do the self
- 27:29Speaker 1: deprecating thing like one of us, Like when she goes
- 27:32Speaker 1: you're a good guy, he leans into it instead of
- 27:36Speaker 1: playing it off. I just felt like there was this
- 27:39Speaker 1: like guilt trip that he was throwing on be fourth
- 27:42Speaker 1: right and say like I want all of you, you.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Know, I We're splitting hairs here.
- 27:48Speaker 1: In the beginning of the movie, Luke walks into a
- 27:50Speaker 1: store called Joe's Hardware, and it looks very much like
- 27:53Speaker 1: the General Store and the Christmas to Evergreen movie, specifically
- 27:56Speaker 1: Letters to Santa, which I don't think you've seen. Stars
- 27:59Speaker 1: Jill Wagner. No, they do a makeover on the general store.
- 28:03Speaker 1: I would bet money that's the same location.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Secondly, in the opening of the movie, Abby is carrying
- 28:10Speaker 1: her dress while also carrying a cup of coffee and
- 28:12Speaker 1: she's like, I don't trust them with my address. I'm like, lady,
- 28:15Speaker 1: you're holding a cardboard cup of coffee. What were you doing?
- 28:18Speaker 1: This is an accident we need to happen totally. I
- 28:20Speaker 1: really thought we were going to have a hijinc moment.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Oh. So glad we didn't, or maybe I wish we
- 28:27Speaker 2: would have too, because this movie was a won't won't.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Wah Do you have a rating?
- 28:33Speaker 2: I gave it two stars?
- 28:34Speaker 1: Me too?
- 28:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Next week, Oh my Heart sings. Next week is Wedding
- 28:39Speaker 1: of a lifetime starring Jonathan Bennett and Brook Doors. Everything
- 28:43Speaker 1: about this makes me happy. We have two actress that
- 28:45Speaker 1: I love. We've got a competition, so we know that
- 28:48Speaker 1: hopefully this movie will move, move, move. I'm looking forward
- 28:51Speaker 1: to it a redemption story. Before you go, you can
- 28:56Speaker 1: leave a review, leave those five star ratings and you're
- 28:59Speaker 1: written review. Use have a great week, everybody.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Bye bye
- 29:13Speaker 1: H
