Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Is Kevin Sports, bring you the midweek sports show right
- 0:03Speaker 1: here on the radio, folks. Then on today's show we
- 0:15Speaker 1: have news about a local football rugby. We've got basketball,
- 0:20Speaker 1: we've got hockey. We've got a little a roundup of
- 0:24Speaker 1: my weekend coming up. And this weekend I should be
- 0:27Speaker 1: watching the folks. Then in Victor Disability team playing away
- 0:31Speaker 1: against the Chelsea disability team.
- 0:40Speaker 2: That's on Saturday.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Then on Sunday I'll be at the Canterbury ten mile
- 0:44Speaker 1: race on the mic during the runners in.
- 0:52Speaker 2: And on today's show we've got a report on.
- 0:55Speaker 1: What might be the smallest park run on the globe.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Tell you more about that later. In the meantime, let's
- 1:10Speaker 1: listen to this floor filler. Get your dancing shoes on.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I'm going to get some stick for this, but I
- 1:15Speaker 1: love this song. It's Rick Astley, Rick Astley there, come on.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I bet you were swirling around the kitchen with your
- 1:53Speaker 1: long raincoat on. I'm not dead for ages, okay. So
- 2:00Speaker 1: welcome to the midwek Sports Show. This is Kevin a
- 2:02Speaker 1: sports very daily here at Radio Folkston. So we'll crack
- 2:06Speaker 1: on with a bit of football news. Well folks and
- 2:09Speaker 1: in Victor welcomed. The Burgess Hill to the Alkaline Stadium
- 2:12Speaker 1: last Saturday in front of one two hundred and thirty spectators.
- 2:16Speaker 1: In Victor went one kneel down in the twenty seventh
- 2:19Speaker 1: minute and it stayed like that until halftime. In Victor
- 2:22Speaker 1: fans had to put up with several mischances until the
- 2:25Speaker 1: eighty fourth minute when Joe Lawson equalized and that's how
- 2:28Speaker 1: it's stayed until the final whistle. So more on that
- 2:32Speaker 1: game on Saturday, actually for tuning in on Saturday the
- 2:35Speaker 1: Saturday Sports Show with myself and Adye Dawks. He was
- 2:37Speaker 1: the man at the match, so you'd be telling you
- 2:40Speaker 1: all about it. This week is another home fixture, this
- 2:43Speaker 1: time against sixteenth place Wingate and Finchley. But as we've
- 2:47Speaker 1: seen in the past, they did come to Folcus in
- 2:50Speaker 1: a couple of years ago and beat us. There are
- 2:53Speaker 1: no easy games in this league and even though in
- 2:55Speaker 1: Victor are thirteen points clear, they must push on and
- 2:59Speaker 1: get three points on Saturday after a bit of a
- 3:02Speaker 1: lean's patch because Chatham are on their heels. I mean,
- 3:06Speaker 1: thankfully folks have got the points and Chatham have got
- 3:10Speaker 1: I think it's three games in hand, that's nine points.
- 3:13Speaker 1: But they've got to win those three games, so whilst
- 3:16Speaker 1: they've got their massive advantage, they want to make the
- 3:19Speaker 1: most of it. High Toown remained second from bottom of
- 3:22Speaker 1: the Southern Counties East Football League as they went down
- 3:26Speaker 1: to Neil against Chiselhurst Gleeb last Saturday. The club below them, Stansfeld,
- 3:30Speaker 1: are level on points. They have a game in hand.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Tuesday evening it was a bit.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Of a thriller.
- 3:36Speaker 1: They were playing Snodling Town in the Challenge Cup and
- 3:41Speaker 1: it ended Neil Neil, which sounds I don't know, pretty
- 3:43Speaker 1: pretty boring, but what happened afterwards It went to penalties
- 3:47Speaker 1: and I have won the penalty shootout nine penalties to eight. Well,
- 3:52Speaker 1: so I mean that must have been nail biting for
- 3:55Speaker 1: the managers then all the players indeed, and strangely enough,
- 3:58Speaker 1: this Saturday they meet again, this time in the league
- 4:01Speaker 1: and this time at Snodlands Ground. In the energ Kent
- 4:06Speaker 1: County League, New Romney were beaten five nil away against
- 4:09Speaker 1: the Long Lane. This Saturday they're at home to Metro Gas.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Now Hawkins might be able to tell New Romney all
- 4:16Speaker 1: about metro Gas actually, because last Saturday they beat them
- 4:19Speaker 1: for to one at their ground in Erith. Now at
- 4:22Speaker 1: the moment I can't find a fixture for Hawkins, but
- 4:25Speaker 1: there are some cup games. And also there's that odd
- 4:29Speaker 1: number of teams in the league. They've got nineteen teams
- 4:32Speaker 1: in fact, so every now and then somebody misses a game. Okay,
- 4:36Speaker 1: So a bit of music now, and this is from
- 4:38Speaker 1: two thousand and five.
- 4:39Speaker 2: This is the Coral and in the.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Morning they go great harmonies from the Adoobie Brothers.
- 5:01Speaker 2: What are full believes?
- 5:07Speaker 1: And before that we had Coral in the Coral in
- 5:10Speaker 1: the morning from two thousand and five. Okay, a bit
- 5:13Speaker 1: of a Folkston Saints basketball news now. Now, the under
- 5:16Speaker 1: fourteen boys beat Sussex Storm at the weekend by one
- 5:19Speaker 1: hundred and seven points to forty five, but unfortunately the
- 5:23Speaker 1: boys under sixteen eighteen lost a very close match against
- 5:26Speaker 1: top of the table Cambridge by sixty three points to
- 5:29Speaker 1: fifty seven. Now on Saturday mornings between nine and eleven
- 5:34Speaker 1: at the Three Hills there is a junior basketball for beginners.
- 5:37Speaker 1: That's for boys and girls aged six and upwards. For
- 5:40Speaker 1: further information, please visit the Saints Basketball Folkston facebook page. Now,
- 5:46Speaker 1: going back to the under fourteens, well that's sitting top
- 5:48Speaker 1: of the Southeast Conference Division. They've played fourteen games, but
- 5:53Speaker 1: Bromley Fury Boys are just one point behind and they've
- 5:57Speaker 1: got a game in hand. The big uses that they
- 6:00Speaker 1: play each other on February fourteenth, eleven fifteen at the
- 6:04Speaker 1: Three Heels. Now the SAME's Boys of six games to
- 6:08Speaker 1: go and Bromley have seven. So this game on the
- 6:12Speaker 1: fourteenth is the real top of the table clash. It
- 6:15Speaker 1: could be the title decider. It's been a really tight season.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I've been watching the under fourteen boys and they've had
- 6:21Speaker 1: their noses in front, but Bromley are just chasing them
- 6:25Speaker 1: all the time.
- 6:26Speaker 2: And you know.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Basketball as this since the Three Heels has opened, some
- 6:31Speaker 1: of the sports have grown massively. Now basketball was always
- 6:35Speaker 1: quite popular, but now it's really popular and it's a
- 6:38Speaker 1: bit l like hockey. I'm going to do a massive
- 6:42Speaker 1: recap of all the hockey teams are very shortly.
- 6:45Speaker 2: But first of all, we're going to play a bit
- 6:46Speaker 2: of music.
- 6:47Speaker 1: And then as I say we've got, I'm going to
- 6:50Speaker 1: do the hockey team. Have got the hockey club, have
- 6:54Speaker 1: got fourteen teams, and so I'm going to go right
- 6:58Speaker 1: through every single one of them until you had the
- 7:00Speaker 1: getting on this year. In the meantime, sit back and
- 7:02Speaker 1: listen to the police. Every little thing she does is magic.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Every little thing she does is magic. And I just
- 7:17Speaker 1: can't picture the three of them jumping around and bouncing
- 7:20Speaker 1: around in the classroom for some reason, I don't know.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Perhaps it was a video. Perhaps I've dreampt here and
- 7:24Speaker 1: made it up right hockey time the hockey season where
- 7:29Speaker 1: it was in the second half of the hockey season now,
- 7:32Speaker 1: so I've decided to do a comprehensive report on how
- 7:35Speaker 1: all fourteen teams are doing so far. So we started
- 7:38Speaker 1: the top with the men's first team. Well, they came
- 7:40Speaker 1: up that it was great they got promotion last year
- 7:43Speaker 1: into the Premiere but they are struggling a little bit now.
- 7:46Speaker 1: They lost two to one on Saturday against Mardon Russets
- 7:50Speaker 1: and as an Australian guest player, Matt Neeson, he scored
- 7:54Speaker 1: the only goal. We'd be talking about them a bit
- 7:57Speaker 1: later on in the show. So unfortunately the folks and
- 8:00Speaker 1: men's first team are second from bottom in the Premier League.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Moving on to the second team, well, they had a
- 8:08Speaker 1: good no sorry, they lost for to one against Herne
- 8:10Speaker 1: Bay on Saturday, Alex Wizzard getting the goal, and they're
- 8:14Speaker 1: in Division one. They are currently eighth out of eleven
- 8:18Speaker 1: so holding their own And the men's third team. They
- 8:21Speaker 1: didn't have a game on Saturday, but they're in Division
- 8:24Speaker 1: two and they are third out of eleven teams in
- 8:26Speaker 1: their league. The men's fourth team, they beat Canterbury Miller's
- 8:31Speaker 1: three to one, goals coming from Kyle Mackett he got
- 8:34Speaker 1: two and Charlie Peppery got one, and they are in
- 8:37Speaker 1: Division three and they are currently ninth out of twelve.
- 8:41Speaker 1: The men's fifteen where they drew one all against Canterbury
- 8:44Speaker 1: Schoirs ten diet Nika he got the goal, and they
- 8:49Speaker 1: play in Division five and they are sixth out of
- 8:52Speaker 1: eleven teams. Now the men's sixteen, they didn't have a game,
- 8:57Speaker 1: but they are top, top out of eleven doing well.
- 9:00Speaker 1: That's in Division six. They're top in Division six. The
- 9:03Speaker 1: men's seventh team, Oh, listen to this. They won nine
- 9:07Speaker 1: to one, right and the goal scorers were Matt Carter
- 9:11Speaker 1: he got four, Johnny Gomi and he got two, Matt
- 9:15Speaker 1: Goodwin he got two, and Adam Nordon got a single goal,
- 9:19Speaker 1: making it nine that they are doing great guns they're
- 9:22Speaker 1: in Division seven.
- 9:22Speaker 2: They are top also out of twelve. They beat.
- 9:25Speaker 1: The team they beat were called BB eight C and
- 9:29Speaker 1: in the men's section the eighth team. Yes, they've got
- 9:32Speaker 1: eight teams. Unfortunately they lost seven to Adam Copping and
- 9:36Speaker 1: Tom Waite getting the goals. Now, we've got to remember
- 9:39Speaker 1: they are a development side, so they're not all senior players.
- 9:41Speaker 1: They're getting youngsters coming in and they're having a go
- 9:45Speaker 1: so but they're not doing too bad. They're tenth out
- 9:48Speaker 1: of twelve in Division nine, which in our attention to
- 9:52Speaker 1: the Ladies now, but they're having a great season. They
- 9:56Speaker 1: are excuse me, they are top of Vision one East.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Now this is a strange one always find it's a
- 10:03Speaker 1: bit strange. But in the Division one East, the Folkston
- 10:07Speaker 1: in Victor Folks in Victor Folkston Optimists have got two
- 10:11Speaker 1: teams in.
- 10:11Speaker 2: The same division.
- 10:12Speaker 1: In actual fact, the Ladies first played the Ladies seconds
- 10:16Speaker 1: and true to form the Ladies one of four to
- 10:18Speaker 1: one goals coming from Izy Prout, Ashley Taylor, Becky Bird
- 10:23Speaker 1: and Laila Riley. And the goal for the Ladies second
- 10:28Speaker 1: team that was scored by Laurel Fryer. So we've got
- 10:32Speaker 1: the Ladies' first team they are top of Division one
- 10:36Speaker 1: East and the Ladies second team are ninth in Division
- 10:40Speaker 1: one East. Ladies third team they drew two all with
- 10:45Speaker 1: Maidstone Lauren Minister getting the goal, getting one of the
- 10:48Speaker 1: goals and Izzy Timmins getting the second. They are in
- 10:52Speaker 1: Division three and their third no, sorry, the third second
- 10:57Speaker 1: in the tables. I'd say this report is a real
- 10:59Speaker 1: tongue to anyway. They are second in the table. So
- 11:03Speaker 1: right down to the Ladies thirteen. Now the Ladies fourth team.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Here we go again.
- 11:07Speaker 1: The Ladies fourth team played the Ladies fifteen because they
- 11:10Speaker 1: are both in the same Division one division that's Division four,
- 11:14Speaker 1: and this one went true to form as well. The
- 11:17Speaker 1: Ladies' fourth team beat the fifteen by two goals to nil,
- 11:20Speaker 1: Sarah Chiesman and Sienna Craig getting both the goals, and
- 11:25Speaker 1: the Ladies sixteen. Finally, the Ladies sixteen they beat burnt
- 11:28Speaker 1: Ash Freneil Janet Fuller, Kate Rockle and Vicky Safford getting
- 11:33Speaker 1: the goal and out of nine teams, well they're doing
- 11:36Speaker 1: really well.
- 11:37Speaker 2: They are top. So there you go.
- 11:39Speaker 1: It's a round out of all the fourteen teams. But
- 11:41Speaker 1: you know what, I don't think we have just touched
- 11:43Speaker 1: on the Sunday's teams because it's the juniors on a Sunday.
- 11:47Speaker 2: On a Sunday.
- 11:48Speaker 1: The under fourteen boys Spitfires their second out of five team.
- 11:52Speaker 1: The under fourteen boys Hurricanes they're third out of six,
- 11:56Speaker 1: the under fourteen girls are second out of six teams,
- 11:59Speaker 1: and the under sixteen girls are second out of five teams.
- 12:04Speaker 2: So there you go.
- 12:05Speaker 1: That's as much as I can gleam from Hockey England
- 12:09Speaker 1: and the Amy's reports. But I did write to Amy
- 12:15Speaker 1: to see if she could tell me a little bit
- 12:17Speaker 1: about this Australian import, so this is what she sent me.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Now.
- 12:21Speaker 1: The Australians have come over from a team called Canberra Chill,
- 12:25Speaker 1: in a similar way to how cricket clubs have overseas
- 12:28Speaker 1: players come over for a season. One of our guys
- 12:31Speaker 1: is a cricketer, so we used his experience to putting
- 12:34Speaker 1: feelers out and context. After a lot of hard work
- 12:38Speaker 1: on his part, candidates were found. They then had zoom
- 12:42Speaker 1: calls with our men's and ladies coaches and captains to
- 12:45Speaker 1: see if they would be a good fit for the club.
- 12:48Speaker 1: The two guys arrived at New Year and the girl
- 12:50Speaker 1: arrived last Saturday. She landed in the morning straight to
- 12:54Speaker 1: the club to play in the afternoon. All of them
- 12:56Speaker 1: are playing in the first elevens and are helping with
- 12:59Speaker 1: the club coach for seniors and juniors and they're here
- 13:02Speaker 1: till the end of the season. Now did a bit
- 13:05Speaker 1: of research into Canberra Chill. They are a massive club
- 13:08Speaker 1: in the capital city of Australia. They're a professional club
- 13:12Speaker 1: and they've got over a thousand members that are not
- 13:14Speaker 1: all professional members, but obviously their first team is professional
- 13:18Speaker 1: and the Ozzes over here. They've made a great impact
- 13:21Speaker 1: and immediate impact at the Opposa Club down there now
- 13:26Speaker 1: a few snippets. Both junior and masters competitions are now
- 13:30Speaker 1: in full swing. The club is hosting county finals under
- 13:34Speaker 1: tens County Finals day I see in March and I've
- 13:37Speaker 1: been down there.
- 13:38Speaker 2: On these county days and they are massive.
- 13:40Speaker 1: There is games going on because they play across the
- 13:42Speaker 1: pitches and use up two pitches and there's just like
- 13:46Speaker 1: thousands of kids. It really is and that's a thank
- 13:48Speaker 1: you to the fact that the Three Hills have got
- 13:51Speaker 1: the facilities, because not many other clubs could do that.
- 13:54Speaker 1: There's lots of junior players who have been selected for
- 13:57Speaker 1: county teams at different age groups. Lots of senior players
- 14:01Speaker 1: are currently trailing for Southeast Masters trialing for Southeast Master's
- 14:06Speaker 1: sides for tournaments later in the year, and a couple
- 14:09Speaker 1: of other players are currently in international training squads for
- 14:13Speaker 1: the Master's World Cup. And we're waiting on final scad selections,
- 14:17Speaker 1: but we can confirm Kay Parsons has been selected for
- 14:20Speaker 1: the over sixty five Indoor World Cup squad. So congratulations
- 14:25Speaker 1: to Kay. Now the last little bit, and I'll leave
- 14:28Speaker 1: this to last because she's the most important lady at
- 14:32Speaker 1: the Folks and Optimist Hockey Club. Media guru has been
- 14:36Speaker 1: in here several times. Amy Bumpstead. Now she's the second
- 14:40Speaker 1: team goalkeeper. She's the flying tangerine. If you see the
- 14:43Speaker 1: picture on the on the website, that's her flying across
- 14:47Speaker 1: across the gold Mouth. Now she's been picked for the
- 14:50Speaker 1: Welsh over forties, that this year's Four Nations tournament in
- 14:53Speaker 1: Southgate and the World Cup in Rotterdam. How good is that?
- 14:58Speaker 1: But the thing is Amy has to sell fund for
- 15:00Speaker 1: the privilege, for this privilege, and so she's set out
- 15:03Speaker 1: a go Fundme page to help out on tournament expenses,
- 15:07Speaker 1: So please help Amy out. She's dedicated years to the game,
- 15:11Speaker 1: years to the club, and I can guarantee that on
- 15:14Speaker 1: a Monday morning, I'll have fourteen reports in my inbox.
- 15:18Speaker 1: You know, she's a credit to the sport and to
- 15:20Speaker 1: the whole club itself. She's really well thought of. So
- 15:24Speaker 1: if you can support her, you can go to my
- 15:26Speaker 1: Facebook page. You'll find a link there, or go to
- 15:28Speaker 1: Amy Bumstead's Facebook page, and please just give a little
- 15:32Speaker 1: bit under the amount that she's done for the game.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Okay, so this is the track.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I heard this during the week, actually, you know, and
- 15:39Speaker 1: I thought I have known this for ages. So sit
- 15:41Speaker 1: back for the next nearly nearly six minutes. Actually this
- 15:45Speaker 1: is Steely Dan and do it again Steely Dan, nineteen
- 16:07Speaker 1: seventy two. And that was nearly six minutes. You know,
- 16:11Speaker 1: there's not many songs in the seventhies that went on
- 16:14Speaker 1: for six minutes. It's still normally about four when in
- 16:17Speaker 1: the sixties it was two minutes twenty seconds. Okay, time
- 16:21Speaker 1: for some park runners. Well, our Saturday local park runners
- 16:24Speaker 1: are slowly looking for different venues to discover folks and
- 16:28Speaker 1: park run is still going strong. Last Saturday, four hundred
- 16:31Speaker 1: and ten runners took part. Some runners stayed in Kent,
- 16:34Speaker 1: visiting venues such as Ashford who had a record turnout
- 16:37Speaker 1: five hundred and seven. Pegwell Bay had two hundred and fifteen.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Four hundred and thirty five runners took part in the
- 16:44Speaker 1: Great Lines Park in Dullingham. In Medway, three hundred and
- 16:48Speaker 1: seventy seven were at Walmerdal, seventy six run at swan Leae.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Two hundred and ten took part at Whitecliffs Lake, which
- 16:55Speaker 1: is near Dartford. Now these all these races are where
- 16:58Speaker 1: some of our local runners and made their way to.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Last Saturday, for further afield, Rosie Smisen was in Birkenhead.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I can't help saying.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I have to say it with the Liverpool Birkenhead near Liverpool,
- 17:10Speaker 1: where nine hundred and forty three runners took part. Now
- 17:13Speaker 1: this race relied on fifty three volunteers. Now, arguably Bushy Park,
- 17:19Speaker 1: the home of Park Run, is one of the busiest.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Last Saturday, one thousand, six hundred and five runners took
- 17:25Speaker 1: part and listened to this They needed one hundred and
- 17:28Speaker 1: four volunteers and they all came forward to help out. Now,
- 17:32Speaker 1: before we go onto the subject of volunteering. I'd just
- 17:35Speaker 1: like to say well done to two local park runners,
- 17:38Speaker 1: David and Belenda Belinda Hitchin Now they founder the Susquehanna
- 17:44Speaker 1: Riverwalk Park Run, which is in Pennsylvania, USA. Pennsylvania is
- 17:49Speaker 1: a look on the west coast. Is the sort of
- 17:51Speaker 1: the next day up from New York. Now dug a
- 17:55Speaker 1: bit deeper and found that David actually came first. That
- 17:59Speaker 1: was the actually came first that day. But this is
- 18:03Speaker 1: no disrespect to David. There was only ten runners in
- 18:06Speaker 1: there and Belinda came sixth. Now, once again I started
- 18:10Speaker 1: digging even deeper. I found these stats amazing. For this
- 18:14Speaker 1: part run. It's been going since October twenty twenty one,
- 18:18Speaker 1: and the record entry is a massive thirty nine, and
- 18:22Speaker 1: that happened to be on the one hundredth event. They
- 18:25Speaker 1: were celebrating one hundred part runs.
- 18:27Speaker 2: It's done.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Thirty nine people turned up. One week there was just
- 18:31Speaker 1: one runner and three volunteers, but it still went ahead
- 18:34Speaker 1: And the highest number of volunteers recorded ever was ten.
- 18:40Speaker 1: But that day there were twenty runners. And now David
- 18:43Speaker 1: and Belinda are currently on holiday in the USA, but
- 18:45Speaker 1: are very keen to come in on the show and
- 18:47Speaker 1: tell us more about that park run, and it must
- 18:50Speaker 1: be one of the smallest park runs in the world.
- 18:52Speaker 1: And Belinda, to be fairs, you did send me a lovely,
- 18:55Speaker 1: lovely long email describing her trip and her day with
- 18:59Speaker 1: her and David at the Susquehanna park run. But I'm
- 19:03Speaker 1: not going to read it out because I want them
- 19:05Speaker 1: to come in and tell us about it, and so
- 19:08Speaker 1: just sit tight and hopefully when they get home we
- 19:11Speaker 1: can sell something count So this track is called from
- 19:14Speaker 1: the one of these and you and Me song. Ah
- 19:19Speaker 1: as well, We're fun.
- 19:21Speaker 2: I tried to make you the wan of the is
- 19:32Speaker 2: there's the you and Me song.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Okay, now I've got some more park run us and
- 19:39Speaker 1: I think this is really an important message to get
- 19:41Speaker 1: across to anybody that does a park run. I want
- 19:45Speaker 1: to tell you about the Victoria Dock park Run. It's
- 19:47Speaker 1: located not far from the River Thames, close to the
- 19:50Speaker 1: Thames Barrier and London City Airport. It started in March
- 19:53Speaker 1: twenty eighteen, nearly eight years ago, but the last time
- 19:56Speaker 1: it took part was in December last year, when they
- 19:59Speaker 1: had to call it a day due to lack of volunteers. Now,
- 20:03Speaker 1: as we know, part run relies on volunteers. Sorry, to
- 20:06Speaker 1: initially put together a new part run takes time effort organizing.
- 20:11Speaker 1: You need a core team, and initially you need investment.
- 20:14Speaker 1: You do need some sponsors. You've got to buy some
- 20:17Speaker 1: kit and it doesn't happen for nothing initially at the
- 20:21Speaker 1: start of it. And although you're getting your run for nothing,
- 20:24Speaker 1: there's lots of other things as well, but most of
- 20:27Speaker 1: all you need volunteers.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Now.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Park run director's job starts on the Monday morning after
- 20:32Speaker 1: the previous Saturday's event. Trying to fill in that volunteer
- 20:36Speaker 1: role is often the hardest thing to do. We've all
- 20:39Speaker 1: seen posts on social media during the week asking for volunteers,
- 20:42Speaker 1: then normally, by some miracle they've found and the race
- 20:45Speaker 1: goes ahead. However, I think, I mean, is this good enough?
- 20:50Speaker 1: Are you a regular park runner if you ever volunteered,
- 20:53Speaker 1: Come on, be honest. Now, if more regular park runners
- 20:56Speaker 1: just occasionally gave up the morning run and volunteered, races
- 20:59Speaker 1: like Victoria Dock would still be going ahead, And what
- 21:03Speaker 1: worries me it could happen to more events around the country.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Park Run has been a new journey for thousands of
- 21:09Speaker 1: people who've never run before and found it did wonders
- 21:12Speaker 1: for their health and mental well being.
- 21:15Speaker 2: It's free.
- 21:16Speaker 1: It's nine o'clock on a Saturday at over twelve hundred venues.
- 21:20Speaker 1: How lucky are you park runners, especially you tourists, when
- 21:23Speaker 1: you're flying around looking for something to do when you
- 21:26Speaker 1: are away on your holidays. So let's not see how
- 21:29Speaker 1: local races go down the road of Victoria Dock. Do
- 21:33Speaker 1: something special. If you're a park runner, give something back.
- 21:35Speaker 1: You'll find it really rewarding. Become a volunteer.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Okay. So that's the word.
- 21:41Speaker 1: That's the message that's gone out, and I hope it
- 21:43Speaker 1: doesn't fall on deaf ears. Okay, getting back to the
- 21:46Speaker 1: music now. Now, we just played Steely Dan. That was
- 21:48Speaker 1: nearly six minutes and I've just grabbed a song off
- 21:51Speaker 1: the playlist which has come from the sixties, and as
- 21:55Speaker 1: I was saying earlier, it's this one is Jerry and
- 21:58Speaker 1: the Pacemakers.
- 21:59Speaker 2: How do you do it?
- 22:00Speaker 1: And I'll be back shortly. It's only one minute and
- 22:02Speaker 1: fifty one seconds long.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Folkston's community radio station Radio Folkstone. How do you do
- 22:19Speaker 2: what you do? Only perhaps you fall for me like
- 22:24Speaker 2: a b Well, I do ritten you.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Ago that's turning the clock back to nineteen sixty three,
- 22:34Speaker 1: that the record was one minute fifty one seconds, and
- 22:37Speaker 1: I think there must have been a lot of twenty
- 22:39Speaker 1: second musical interlude in the middle there, so they certainly
- 22:44Speaker 1: made them shortened sweeting back in the day. Okay, so
- 22:47Speaker 1: rugby news now, folks. The first fifteen had an excellent
- 22:50Speaker 1: seventeen twelve victory away at Thani Wanderers last Saturday, pushing
- 22:54Speaker 1: them up to third place. This week they welcome Vigo
- 22:57Speaker 1: to the Burlington Fields. So little bit of research here
- 23:00Speaker 1: we go. Bigo Rugby Club began in nineteen sixty eight
- 23:04Speaker 1: at the Vigo Inn and the club was named after
- 23:06Speaker 1: the village of Vigo, which is in the Gravesham district
- 23:09Speaker 1: in Kent. Unfortunately for Vigo their bottom of the league,
- 23:13Speaker 1: having only one one game out of twelve, so welcome
- 23:17Speaker 1: to folks. Then on Saturday, the second fifteen didn't have
- 23:20Speaker 1: a game last week due to there being an odd
- 23:22Speaker 1: number of teams in the league. But this Saturday, the Seconds,
- 23:26Speaker 1: who are eighth in the division, travel away to Gillingham
- 23:30Speaker 1: and Coreyan's, who are bottom. The Folks and Ladies now
- 23:33Speaker 1: have to wait until Sunday, February eighth, when their next
- 23:36Speaker 1: fixture is a way to becker Haamian Ladies, which means
- 23:40Speaker 1: a trip very near to Croydon in London. However, the
- 23:44Speaker 1: good news is for folks and ladies anyway, that the
- 23:47Speaker 1: folks and Ladies are top and the Beckahamian Ladies are bottom.
- 23:51Speaker 1: So we're I've still got a bit of time, so
- 23:54Speaker 1: we squeezed this song in. It's Uncle Cracker Follow Me,
- 23:58Speaker 1: and it's really long. It's three and it's twenty one seconds.
- 24:09Speaker 2: You don't know how you met me and you don't nobody.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Elsie a good cracker there follow Me from two thousand
- 24:21Speaker 1: and three.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Okay, so we are.
- 24:24Speaker 1: The clock is ticking, doesn't it always, So we've got
- 24:26Speaker 1: a little bit more to do. I'm going to tell
- 24:28Speaker 1: you about my busy weekend coming up now. On Saturday,
- 24:31Speaker 1: I'll be traveling with folks in the Victor Disability football
- 24:34Speaker 1: team to watch them play Chelsea Disability Team at the
- 24:38Speaker 1: premier club's training facilities in Cobbham in Surrey. Now there's
- 24:43Speaker 1: talk of the Chelsea team actually entering a London Division
- 24:46Speaker 1: next season instead of being in the Southeast Region. So
- 24:49Speaker 1: this may be the last trip to Cobbon for the lads.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Now there's a coach leaving the Dugout Inturon Road at
- 24:56Speaker 1: twelve o'clock sharp, so if you're interested in coming along
- 24:59Speaker 1: to support them, it is just five pound ahead for guests.
- 25:02Speaker 2: What a bargain.
- 25:03Speaker 1: So please get in touch with the manager, Garrett Wilson
- 25:05Speaker 1: on Facebook or myself and I'll pass the message on them.
- 25:09Speaker 1: And I must just add a massive, massive thank you
- 25:11Speaker 1: to the former folks in Victor Supporters Club who've kindly
- 25:15Speaker 1: sponsored the trip. Now then on Sunday, my first race
- 25:20Speaker 1: on the MIC for twenty twenty six is the Canterbury ten.
- 25:23Speaker 1: This is expected to be an extremely busy morning due
- 25:26Speaker 1: to a venue change and a course change. Everyone loves
- 25:29Speaker 1: a course change, don't you, and I think this will
- 25:32Speaker 1: attract thousands of people.
- 25:34Speaker 2: People do enjoy the old course.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I've run it a few times and it is tough,
- 25:38Speaker 1: but the challenge of a new course is something to
- 25:42Speaker 1: look forward to. So please note that today, yes Thursday,
- 25:45Speaker 1: is the last day for online entries and there'll be
- 25:48Speaker 1: no entries on the day. For further information, please check
- 25:51Speaker 1: out the Canterbury ten. That's Canterbury one zero Canterbury ten
- 25:56Speaker 1: facebook page. So if it's anything you want to know
- 25:58Speaker 1: about the race, that's the place to look at it. Now,
- 26:01Speaker 1: this one I've dug out for the folks and in
- 26:03Speaker 1: Victor Disability Team. They're off to Chelsea and what better
- 26:07Speaker 1: song could we have than the Frottellies and.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Chelsea Dagger.
- 26:24Speaker 1: As the frottell is there, Chelsea Dagger, and especially for
- 26:27Speaker 1: the folks in the Victor Disability Football Team as they
- 26:31Speaker 1: head off on Saturday to face Chelsea Disability Team.
- 26:37Speaker 2: And I've been asked to pick man of the match.
- 26:38Speaker 2: So that's quite an honor, really, isn't it.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Okay, so we're gonna play a bit of Alison Moye
- 26:43Speaker 1: and as we haven't got long so we're just gonna
- 26:46Speaker 1: just chat this in I love this track Invisible, we
- 27:00Speaker 1: wind down with Allison Moye. That's it from me. As
- 27:03Speaker 1: I said this weekend, I should be watching the folks
- 27:04Speaker 1: in the Victor Disability Football Team played Chelsea Disability Team
- 27:08Speaker 1: and then on Saturday, I'll be On Sunday, I'll be
- 27:11Speaker 1: on the mic at Canterbury. I'll be back on Saturday
- 27:13Speaker 1: though with ad see you then online at radio, Folkston
- 27:19Speaker 1: dot com and on your smart speaker
