- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is Spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering One Piece, episodes 927 and 928. Pandemonium, the monster
- 0:20Speaker 1: snake Shogun Orochi, and The Flower Falls, the final moment
- 0:27Speaker 1: of the most beautiful woman in the land of Wano.
- 0:33Speaker 1: In these episodes, well, she's still a badass, and I
- 0:39Speaker 1: still love her. I hope she's not really dead. That's
- 0:44Speaker 1: pretty much all I gotta say about that. Welcome to
- 0:49Speaker 1: Spoil Me. Welcome to the show, everyone. I am Natasha.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Thank you very, very much to the One Piece crew
- 1:17Speaker 1: for commissioning this episode. I am very appreciative because I
- 1:23Speaker 1: have to move things around so often. Apologies, everybody, about it,
- 1:26Speaker 1: but they are very willing to work with me and
- 1:30Speaker 1: be flexible, which is hugely appreciated. I just wanted to
- 1:33Speaker 1: mention at the start of the recording that I fractured
- 1:37Speaker 1: my wrist over the weekend and I am in a cast. Well,
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm in a splint and it is in such a
- 1:45Speaker 1: place that I can't really rest my arm for very
- 1:48Speaker 1: long without it starting to like hurt or go numb.
- 1:50Speaker 1: So if you hear me shifting around a lot, apologies,
- 1:55Speaker 1: if it's distracting, I'm going to be moving and, and,
- 1:58Speaker 1: you know, changing the positioning of my arm and of
- 2:01Speaker 1: this like cushion that I've got here for it. So,
- 2:04Speaker 1: I just wanted to mention since sometimes I will think
- 2:09Speaker 1: that you guys can't hear something and then I go
- 2:11Speaker 1: and edit later and I'm like, oh, that was loud, actually.
- 2:14Speaker 1: So if you hear that, that's what's going on. So
- 2:20Speaker 1: this first episode, the monster snake Shogun Orochi, I just
- 2:26Speaker 1: want to make sure we knew already that he could
- 2:30Speaker 1: turn into this Hydra, right? Because I don't think that
- 2:35Speaker 1: there's a feel to it when he does it here
- 2:39Speaker 1: that there are people in the room who seemed to
- 2:41Speaker 1: not know. Or maybe it's just that they had not
- 2:43Speaker 1: seen it in action before. But I feel like we
- 2:47Speaker 1: had a scene where he's like threatening somebody and he
- 2:52Speaker 1: turns into the Hydra. And then I believe Seraphim said
- 2:56Speaker 1: that there was a connection between his name and and
- 2:59Speaker 1: the name for the Hydra in mythology, in Japanese mythology.
- 3:07Speaker 1: This couple of episodes are really strange, actually, in a
- 3:11Speaker 1: certain way. So, I'm going to talk about Komurasaki out
- 3:20Speaker 1: of the gate, because, of course, this bitch just is
- 3:25Speaker 1: ten toes down for the right thing in these two episodes.
- 3:32Speaker 1: And I just have hella respect for that. She is
- 3:36Speaker 1: not about to kowtow to this fucking jerk just because
- 3:42Speaker 1: he doesn't like feeling like a fool or being made
- 3:44Speaker 1: fun of. And I love the fact that even when
- 3:50Speaker 1: he's like, I was going to make you my wife.
- 3:53Speaker 1: She's like, okay, so what? Apparently, you want a wife
- 3:59Speaker 1: with like no spine or personality. And that's not me.
- 4:03Speaker 1: So I guess if you want to destroy me, you're
- 4:06Speaker 1: doing the right thing. And I really thought that if
- 4:11Speaker 1: he said like, I was going to marry you, there
- 4:14Speaker 1: might be some kind of moment of hesitation for her.
- 4:19Speaker 1: But if anything, it's like it annoys her more that
- 4:22Speaker 1: he's trying to hold that over her head, which I
- 4:24Speaker 1: found really, really fun. And It's almost like her being like,
- 4:32Speaker 1: I have lost such respect for you that I have
- 4:35Speaker 1: slapped you. And you think telling me that now you
- 4:38Speaker 1: won't marry me is really like a hurtful thing for me.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I don't want to marry you particularly. You suck. I
- 4:48Speaker 1: don't know if you caught it, but you like I
- 4:51Speaker 1: how am I supposed to be? married to a guy
- 4:54Speaker 1: who I know is an asshole in this very particular
- 4:58Speaker 1: embarrassing way. Um, and the fact that what, what happens
- 5:08Speaker 1: is that he actually is like fully believing this legend
- 5:15Speaker 1: about how the ghosts are going to come back. And, um,
- 5:19Speaker 1: take back the throne for the Kuzuki family. And what's
- 5:26Speaker 1: sort of surprising to me is that everybody else in
- 5:32Speaker 1: the room really seems to think that this is like
- 5:37Speaker 1: bonkers and they're trying not to laugh. I am used
- 5:46Speaker 1: to people in One Piece being really So I think
- 5:52Speaker 1: that that was like just part of the problem for
- 5:55Speaker 1: me was it doesn't really ring true that nobody is
- 6:00Speaker 1: buying into this story, like that he's the only one.
- 6:04Speaker 1: The way that people operate around here, we've seen it,
- 6:09Speaker 1: and they would absolutely be buying into this story. Not
- 6:14Speaker 1: necessarily everybody, but I think plenty of people would. And
- 6:18Speaker 1: it seemed like the room is very united in just
- 6:22Speaker 1: trying not to laugh at him. Which, what we then
- 6:27Speaker 1: get is Otoko unable to contain her laughter. Now, I
- 6:39Speaker 1: just want to be clear that I am obviously on
- 6:46Speaker 1: Kimura Saki's side. that going after a child because that
- 6:51Speaker 1: child laughed at you is some bitch shit. But I
- 6:57Speaker 1: also have to be clear that I find Otoku so
- 7:01Speaker 1: fucking irritating. She's just got a weird face that creeps
- 7:06Speaker 1: me out. Her laugh is obnoxious. I don't know if
- 7:13Speaker 1: it's kind of a purposeful choice on the part of
- 7:16Speaker 1: the voice actor, But the laugh, it's supposed to be
- 7:20Speaker 1: that she just like can't control herself. And so she
- 7:23Speaker 1: can't stop laughing, even though she knows she shouldn't be laughing.
- 7:26Speaker 1: But it doesn't feel at all like genuine laughter. And
- 7:32Speaker 1: there are times where the voice actors, like, there are
- 7:38Speaker 1: times where it being a forced laugh or something that
- 7:41Speaker 1: just sounds unnatural, still kind of works within the scene.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Or it's part of the character thing is that they're
- 7:48Speaker 1: Laughing sarcastically or kind of forcing it in the moment
- 7:51Speaker 1: or whatever. But this for me kind of felt like
- 7:54Speaker 1: a scene where we want that laughter to seem much
- 8:00Speaker 1: more out of control and genuine. And it doesn't feel
- 8:05Speaker 1: that way. And especially because she has such a strange face.
- 8:11Speaker 1: There's something so doll-like about her face that that when
- 8:17Speaker 1: she starts laughing and doesn't stop, it's like somebody pulled
- 8:21Speaker 1: the cord of, you know, an automated doll that had
- 8:25Speaker 1: like a speaker inside and it just won't stop. And
- 8:29Speaker 1: it like, I just found myself low key. Again, I'm
- 8:36Speaker 1: not actually endorsing violence against children, but I found myself
- 8:43Speaker 1: kind of being like, somebody shut that kid up. I
- 8:47Speaker 1: don't want to hear it anymore. And thus, I have
- 8:53Speaker 1: to be very purposeful about saying that I am on
- 8:57Speaker 1: Komurasaki's side and she's doing the right thing and I
- 9:01Speaker 1: recognize that. But for very other reasons than ego, a
- 9:07Speaker 1: part of me was like, okay, yeah, Shogun, get her.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Because I just am tired of of this weird little child.
- 9:17Speaker 1: It's also very funny that Kimura Saki is apparently very
- 9:22Speaker 1: attached to Toko. Like there seems to be a real
- 9:25Speaker 1: little sister kind of relationship there. And Kimura Saki does
- 9:31Speaker 1: not strike me as somebody who would be like a
- 9:35Speaker 1: very patient person in general, but there seems to be
- 9:40Speaker 1: an exception for Toko. Like she, she really is able to,
- 9:44Speaker 1: to give her grace and hand, like, you know, Toko
- 9:50Speaker 1: is late to accompany her a few episodes ago when
- 9:53Speaker 1: she's like on her walk to the palace and Komura-san
- 10:00Speaker 1: is very much like, oh, I'm glad you're here. I
- 10:02Speaker 1: wondered what was going on. And she doesn't yell at
- 10:04Speaker 1: her and she's not angry or throwing attitude or anything
- 10:08Speaker 1: like that, which considering how haughty she is so much
- 10:13Speaker 1: of the time was unexpected. And even here where, plenty
- 10:20Speaker 1: of people would simply be pissed at Toko. They would
- 10:25Speaker 1: just be like, I want to defend you, but you know,
- 10:29Speaker 1: you shouldn't have laughed. It's a very obvious thing. And
- 10:33Speaker 1: I can do only so much. You couldn't control yourself.
- 10:37Speaker 1: And so the consequences are going to fall on you.
- 10:39Speaker 1: And there's nothing that I can do about that. And
- 10:41Speaker 1: there would be a lot of folks, maybe including myself,
- 10:45Speaker 1: who would be like, that's the way it happens, kid. Like,
- 10:49Speaker 1: Sorry about it, but, you know, and instead she's just
- 10:54Speaker 1: so fully like, this is a literal child. Are you,
- 10:57Speaker 1: are you serious? And not holding Toko responsible in a
- 11:04Speaker 1: way that feels almost like I got held responsible too
- 11:08Speaker 1: much when I was younger. I was treated like a
- 11:12Speaker 1: little adult and it was not fair and it was
- 11:15Speaker 1: fucked up and I am not going to do that.
- 11:19Speaker 1: to this child because it's just not a reasonable thing
- 11:22Speaker 1: to expect. I am very much pulling this out of
- 11:28Speaker 1: my ass. As we know, this is something that I do.
- 11:31Speaker 1: So if it turns out that's not what's going on
- 11:34Speaker 1: here at all, then, you know, fine. But the fact
- 11:38Speaker 1: that she is just very willing to take the hit, literally,
- 11:42Speaker 1: I respect the shit out of because I, Honestly, I
- 11:49Speaker 1: kind of expected the Shogun to back down maybe, but
- 11:53Speaker 1: I also recognize that the way that he has been disrespected,
- 11:58Speaker 1: it's not just that she stands up to him and
- 12:00Speaker 1: she's like, what the fuck? She literally slaps him. That's
- 12:06Speaker 1: a tough thing to recover from. Like, R.E., your reputation
- 12:13Speaker 1: and the way that other people see you. I don't
- 12:16Speaker 1: really know how you get past this and retain the
- 12:23Speaker 1: respect of the other people in the room who were
- 12:26Speaker 1: here to see this. I understand that there are other
- 12:32Speaker 1: people here who don't want him to go after Toko
- 12:36Speaker 1: because she's a child. And so they, in principle, want
- 12:42Speaker 1: him to do what she's telling him to do. However,
- 12:47Speaker 1: even if you agree with what she's telling him, the
- 12:52Speaker 1: fact that she slapped him is still going to lower
- 12:57Speaker 1: your opinion of him as a leader. There's kind of
- 13:00Speaker 1: no avoiding that to a degree. He has embarrassed himself
- 13:06Speaker 1: by caring so much what a child thinks of him
- 13:10Speaker 1: and then gets slapped by a woman who who will
- 13:15Speaker 1: not back down despite the amount of power he holds.
- 13:19Speaker 1: It's just there's not recovery here that is complete that
- 13:24Speaker 1: I can think of. No matter what he does, I
- 13:28Speaker 1: feel like he just looks like an asshole and there's
- 13:31Speaker 1: no avoiding it. So he decides that the way he's
- 13:38Speaker 1: going to handle this, I say decides, you know, it's
- 13:43Speaker 1: a very... it feels very impulsive what winds up happening here.
- 13:50Speaker 1: So I don't know that decide is really the right
- 13:53Speaker 1: word because the implication is that he transforms, excuse me,
- 14:00Speaker 1: he transforms into the Hydra because he loses his temper.
- 14:05Speaker 1: The fact that she slapped him won't back down, won't apologize.
- 14:10Speaker 1: He kind of loses it and transforms into, And not,
- 14:16Speaker 1: it's like, I think a combo of losing his temper
- 14:20Speaker 1: and also doing what he can in the moment to
- 14:25Speaker 1: seem as intimidating as possible because he's just trying to
- 14:28Speaker 1: scare her into behaving. So when he transforms into this
- 14:34Speaker 1: Hydra and she's still like, there is an expression on
- 14:39Speaker 1: her face of, I won't say that she's unmoved by
- 14:43Speaker 1: him doing this. I will say it is, she isn't
- 14:50Speaker 1: as impressed as I think he wants her to be.
- 14:54Speaker 1: And then he chomps her right across the waist. Like it's,
- 15:06Speaker 1: we're talking the location of all major organs that he
- 15:11Speaker 1: has got clamped in his jaws. Now, Despite this, I
- 15:18Speaker 1: don't really think that he was going to kill her.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Everybody around them is behaving as if he is killing
- 15:27Speaker 1: her or even as if she's already dead, which I
- 15:33Speaker 1: tend to think that she is just going to be
- 15:37Speaker 1: okay in the end because the show doesn't really kill people.
- 15:39Speaker 1: And I... he has her in his jaws it's like
- 15:53Speaker 1: there's a moment where he gets startled because I think
- 15:59Speaker 1: it's Shinobu and Nami and that other guy who fall
- 16:02Speaker 1: through the ceiling and like they crash into him and
- 16:06Speaker 1: so he winds up dropping Komurasaki but then fucking what's
- 16:14Speaker 1: his name these names Kiyoshiro? Is that the one? The slasher?
- 16:22Speaker 1: He steps forward and slashes her across the back. Or
- 16:27Speaker 1: is it the stomach? Either way, it looked like maybe
- 16:33Speaker 1: she was going to be okay. And he delivers what
- 16:37Speaker 1: is obviously intended and what is being interpreted as a
- 16:41Speaker 1: killing blow. And it's funny because Because the way that
- 16:56Speaker 1: the Shogun reacts, I'm trying to remember his name. What
- 16:58Speaker 1: is his name? Orochi. Fuck. Sorry, guys. I'm just so...
- 17:06Speaker 1: Lena says, I honestly believe that she died and then
- 17:09Speaker 1: has a grimace face. Well, that would really suck. And
- 17:14Speaker 1: if it's true, I'll be shocked because they just don't
- 17:16Speaker 1: kill people on this show very often. Usually it's in
- 17:19Speaker 1: flashbacks only, you know, but we shall see. Oh, I
- 17:29Speaker 1: already lost it. How? Oshiro, no, Orochi, Orochi is, I
- 17:36Speaker 1: think was like starting to get a hold of himself
- 17:39Speaker 1: and realizing that he was fucking up. So, When he
- 17:46Speaker 1: decides that he is going to jump in and slash her,
- 17:53Speaker 1: it really feels as if Orochi is like, what the fuck, dude?
- 18:01Speaker 1: You knew I was going to let her go. I
- 18:03Speaker 1: was making a point. And the way that Kyoshiro decides
- 18:11Speaker 1: to play this is... She plated your face. She was
- 18:18Speaker 1: rebelling against you to your face. There are rules. They
- 18:23Speaker 1: are very clear. And what she did was worthy of
- 18:27Speaker 1: a death sentence. And that is that on that. You
- 18:32Speaker 1: can't be flexible and fast and loose with the rules
- 18:38Speaker 1: or you are going to lose people's respect. Which, honestly...
- 18:45Speaker 1: you know, the way I was talking earlier about how
- 18:47Speaker 1: I don't know if his reputation could possibly recover. I
- 18:51Speaker 1: actually kind of agree with that overall assessment by Kiyoshiro,
- 18:57Speaker 1: but I don't believe for a moment that that was
- 19:00Speaker 1: really the motivation behind what he did. Because it's a
- 19:05Speaker 1: weird thing where we get the end of the last,
- 19:08Speaker 1: the end of the first episode in this pair ends
- 19:14Speaker 1: with him basically getting like a violence boner. He's watching
- 19:21Speaker 1: all of this mayhem and talking about like how beautiful
- 19:27Speaker 1: it is to, to see her being killed and has
- 19:32Speaker 1: this wide smile on his face. This is super duper,
- 19:38Speaker 1: not about following rules, protecting reputations, any of that. This
- 19:44Speaker 1: is about a sadist who has spotted a perfect opportunity
- 19:51Speaker 1: to hurt somebody, kill somebody, and excuse it. That's all
- 19:57Speaker 1: it is. And I'm kind of wondering, because I've been
- 20:02Speaker 1: feeling like this dude is... I... and waiting for them
- 20:10Speaker 1: to figure out that he is this serial killer. I'm
- 20:15Speaker 1: wondering if him slashing her in the way that he
- 20:18Speaker 1: did in front of everybody is going to come up
- 20:22Speaker 1: at any point and play into their putting pieces together.
- 20:27Speaker 1: But I don't recall if the way that he slashes
- 20:31Speaker 1: her is particularly distinctive. if there's anything about it that they,
- 20:36Speaker 1: that people could be like, Oh, that's the exact sort
- 20:39Speaker 1: of injury that the serial killer was inflicting too. And
- 20:42Speaker 1: I saw him do like, it does seem like kind
- 20:46Speaker 1: of a generic slash. So I don't know. I might
- 20:53Speaker 1: be wrong about that. I just really want him to
- 20:56Speaker 1: get caught because he has so much power and He's
- 21:03Speaker 1: just such a shit, you know? And the way he's
- 21:06Speaker 1: able to play this here, it's just nonsense. Ugh, gross.
- 21:15Speaker 1: So there's also a paper on her that has that, like,
- 21:21Speaker 1: rebellion symbol. I don't recall if we saw her get
- 21:26Speaker 1: given one of these or not. I don't remember. I
- 21:31Speaker 1: feel like we didn't. But I don't know. I'm like
- 21:36Speaker 1: trying to, I wouldn't, if I were in the Straw
- 21:41Speaker 1: Hats shoes and I were looking for allies, I don't
- 21:45Speaker 1: think that I would have tried to bring Kimura Saki
- 21:48Speaker 1: into the fold because she just doesn't seem like she
- 21:51Speaker 1: would be somebody willing to put it all on the
- 21:56Speaker 1: line for right and wrong initially. What we first see
- 22:04Speaker 1: of her, it seems like she's a very self-centered person
- 22:10Speaker 1: who is very driven for her own advantage and gain.
- 22:15Speaker 1: And that's not usually a person who is willing to
- 22:18Speaker 1: take risks. What we see in these episodes is that
- 22:22Speaker 1: evidently she is very much willing to put it on
- 22:25Speaker 1: the line. But I don't know if that's just for
- 22:28Speaker 1: Toko or not. I don't know if this is like,
- 22:31Speaker 1: how she is with all her principles, or if it's
- 22:34Speaker 1: just the affection that she has for this particular child,
- 22:37Speaker 1: that she won't budge. But either way, setting that aside,
- 22:42Speaker 1: like I said, I personally wouldn't have been reaching out
- 22:47Speaker 1: to her. And it does surprise me a little bit
- 22:51Speaker 1: that she is, that she has the paper on her.
- 22:54Speaker 1: And I almost wondered if he planted it or something like, um,
- 23:00Speaker 1: I can't, like, I don't think we see anything to
- 23:03Speaker 1: indicate that. I don't know. But anyway, okay. So there's
- 23:11Speaker 1: all kinds of other shit that we have to talk
- 23:14Speaker 1: about as well. We have got the whole thing with mom, like,
- 23:20Speaker 1: you know, having forgotten her identity. And it's a really,
- 23:26Speaker 1: I'm so curious about, what it is that is going
- 23:30Speaker 1: to bring her back to herself. Because this can't possibly
- 23:37Speaker 1: last forever. That's just not the nature of this sort
- 23:41Speaker 1: of trope. When somebody was a person who is important
- 23:45Speaker 1: to the overall world building, and they have a memory
- 23:50Speaker 1: thing and lose themselves, it's always restored eventually. And when
- 23:58Speaker 1: you think about how this stuff works, like in sitcoms
- 24:01Speaker 1: and stuff, I still remember, I think it was like
- 24:04Speaker 1: step-by-step that nineties sitcom, but there's an episode where the,
- 24:10Speaker 1: like the really dumb dude, Joey, I think his name
- 24:14Speaker 1: was hits his head and becomes a genius. And of course,
- 24:21Speaker 1: the way that this all works is that when he
- 24:25Speaker 1: gets hit on the head again, he just turns back
- 24:28Speaker 1: into old Joey. We don't exactly see big mom get
- 24:33Speaker 1: hit on the head. It's just like, it seems to
- 24:35Speaker 1: be the overall trauma of the ship crashing and being
- 24:41Speaker 1: tossed around. I guess the ship didn't crash. He just
- 24:43Speaker 1: gets knocked off it pretty much. Right. But, uh, I
- 24:48Speaker 1: don't know if reminding her verbally in the way that
- 24:53Speaker 1: it almost happens here. Like Otama is, uh, just a
- 24:58Speaker 1: syllable away from telling her your name was, you know,
- 25:02Speaker 1: they called you big mom and Chopper stops her because
- 25:09Speaker 1: he's like, we don't want her to remember. The whole
- 25:13Speaker 1: thing is that she's only harmless right now because she
- 25:18Speaker 1: doesn't recall. And if Chopper, You say it, it might
- 25:23Speaker 1: jog her memory and she'll come back to herself and
- 25:25Speaker 1: remember that we're enemies and then she will fucking smash
- 25:27Speaker 1: us like bugs. I think that's fair. We don't know
- 25:35Speaker 1: enough about how this all works to really say that
- 25:39Speaker 1: she couldn't be brought back to herself by just the
- 25:43Speaker 1: mention of her name. So... I think that his paranoia,
- 25:49Speaker 1: if you even want to call it that, because I
- 25:51Speaker 1: think he's right, so I don't even want to say paranoia,
- 25:53Speaker 1: but what he tells her, because she's like, what is
- 25:58Speaker 1: my name? And he tells her, I think that her
- 26:01Speaker 1: name is Olin, if I'm not mistaken. And she says
- 26:07Speaker 1: that that is such a beautiful name and believes him
- 26:11Speaker 1: and goes with it. And I am... very, very interested
- 26:20Speaker 1: to see what a big mom on our side looks like.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Because what's kind of interesting to me here is that
- 26:30Speaker 1: she has a moment of like, Oh my God, I'm
- 26:32Speaker 1: so hungry. And I was like, Oh, are we about
- 26:36Speaker 1: to see one of those craving rampages that she goes on? Sorry, guys.
- 26:45Speaker 1: We don't see that. She's, Like they find a way
- 26:48Speaker 1: to feed her and she would like more food, but
- 26:55Speaker 1: she isn't super pushy about it. She's very kind saying
- 27:00Speaker 1: like the food is super good. Thank you so much.
- 27:03Speaker 1: And honestly behaves more like a person than I think
- 27:09Speaker 1: we've ever seen from her. And does this mean that,
- 27:17Speaker 1: That having forgotten who she is, that the hunger tantrum
- 27:27Speaker 1: fugue states don't happen anymore. If that's so, why wouldn't they?
- 27:34Speaker 1: Is it a psychosomatic thing that she sort of, I
- 27:39Speaker 1: don't know what to think about this. And there's really
- 27:41Speaker 1: not enough information yet to like, even say that that's true,
- 27:46Speaker 1: that it isn't happening anymore. Because those types of hunger
- 27:50Speaker 1: pangs are a really specific thing. And her just being
- 27:55Speaker 1: hungry seems different. So it may simply be that we
- 28:01Speaker 1: haven't encountered that really yet. But I don't really know
- 28:06Speaker 1: what tends to trigger them. It's sort of, it feels
- 28:12Speaker 1: like she just thinks of something and has a craving
- 28:15Speaker 1: and gets fixated on it. And what it is that
- 28:18Speaker 1: she thinks of is sort of like that random, like
- 28:23Speaker 1: what I think of with this is cause I've talked
- 28:26Speaker 1: about how I will get cravings, especially around my period
- 28:30Speaker 1: for carbohydrates and red meat. And these are the two
- 28:34Speaker 1: things that I want real bad. But yeah, A lot
- 28:39Speaker 1: of times it's not even necessarily that I have a
- 28:41Speaker 1: food in mind. It'll be that I'm watching a show
- 28:44Speaker 1: and somebody makes something. And now that's it. They were
- 28:49Speaker 1: making a grilled cheese and I have to have grilled
- 28:52Speaker 1: cheese now. And there's no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
- 28:56Speaker 1: I don't make the rules. Grilled cheese is happening. And
- 28:59Speaker 1: I don't really know exactly what it is that triggers
- 29:03Speaker 1: Big Mom to decide, like, you know, she had the
- 29:06Speaker 1: croquembouche that she wanted. And she wouldn't settle for anything
- 29:10Speaker 1: but the croquembouche. What caused that? You know, like, is
- 29:15Speaker 1: this something that perhaps it turns out she may have
- 29:19Speaker 1: more control over than she realized? Or is it possible
- 29:24Speaker 1: that whatever happened to her cured this, if you want
- 29:28Speaker 1: to call them like seizures, I don't think that would
- 29:29Speaker 1: even be unfair. I am just so curious. And You know,
- 29:37Speaker 1: Big Mom and the fact that she she has a
- 29:43Speaker 1: history of not remembering things or remembering wrong Lena is
- 29:55Speaker 1: in the chat saying what I was starting to get
- 29:57Speaker 1: at which is I wondered if maybe when she remembers,
- 30:01Speaker 1: she will remember it all. And the fact that she
- 30:05Speaker 1: does have these memory issues is compelling. And if she remembers,
- 30:11Speaker 1: is it also going to restore what happened where I
- 30:13Speaker 1: believe she ate her friends? And what does that do
- 30:21Speaker 1: to her as a person? If she were to go back,
- 30:28Speaker 1: to just what she used to know. She could reasonably
- 30:33Speaker 1: stay the big mom villain we all know. But what
- 30:39Speaker 1: if she remembers all of it and suddenly the fact
- 30:47Speaker 1: that this power that she has comes from having literally
- 30:53Speaker 1: been cannibalizing somebody that you called a mother who you
- 30:57Speaker 1: apparently worshipped. I feel like that's going to have to
- 31:01Speaker 1: fundamentally change her as a person. So it's possible that
- 31:06Speaker 1: even if her memory were to come back, if enough
- 31:08Speaker 1: comes back, she's still not really the big mom that
- 31:10Speaker 1: we know. I don't know. So we also have this
- 31:19Speaker 1: whole thing. Robin, is rescuing Toko and from Orochi. I'm,
- 31:32Speaker 1: I can't help but laugh because at one point, you know,
- 31:35Speaker 1: as it begins to be clear that like Robin is
- 31:38Speaker 1: not obeying, everybody starts to go, wait, is she a spy?
- 31:44Speaker 1: And realizing like she is sort of new here. And
- 31:48Speaker 1: eventually Brooke gets like, roped into this distraction thing that
- 31:53Speaker 1: they're doing. And they see her talking with Brooke and
- 31:57Speaker 1: are like, oh my God, she's allies with that ghost.
- 32:00Speaker 1: So it seems like the jig is up and Robin
- 32:04Speaker 1: is not going to be able to utilize this disguise
- 32:06Speaker 1: to sneak in places anymore, which is a shame. Also,
- 32:12Speaker 1: it's very funny because the whole thing with Brooke is
- 32:16Speaker 1: that There's ninjas that are coming at Robin and Toko,
- 32:22Speaker 1: and he is chasing them off. But he's just like
- 32:26Speaker 1: yelling a curse upon you all, something like that, which
- 32:30Speaker 1: initially is enough to scare them. But as they continue
- 32:35Speaker 1: to run away and he doesn't actually attack them, they
- 32:39Speaker 1: lose all fear of him. I am asking, genuinely asking...
- 32:48Speaker 1: Why doesn't he attack them? Like, Brooke has so many
- 32:56Speaker 1: moves that he could do. And he could definitely do
- 33:01Speaker 1: things without killing people. I just, I can't understand why
- 33:10Speaker 1: when they start to realize, oh, we don't need to
- 33:12Speaker 1: be scared of him because he's not actually going to
- 33:15Speaker 1: hurt us. why doesn't he just hurt them a little,
- 33:21Speaker 1: keep them afraid? Because as soon as they decide he
- 33:24Speaker 1: is not somebody they need to worry about, they're able
- 33:28Speaker 1: to like turn and continue chasing. Like they go back,
- 33:31Speaker 1: you know? So for what reason did we do this
- 33:35Speaker 1: this way? Why didn't we just have you like, you
- 33:40Speaker 1: don't have to go too, too hard in an attack
- 33:44Speaker 1: on them, but, it was so clear. They said out
- 33:50Speaker 1: loud that they were not worried and to simply like,
- 33:56Speaker 1: let them run off. Now that they have figured out,
- 33:58Speaker 1: you're not going to do anything. It was a weirdly
- 34:01Speaker 1: passive move that I did not understand. Florian says in
- 34:09Speaker 1: his ghost form, he's not offensive slash a fighter. He's
- 34:14Speaker 1: just a ghost and, Oh, can go through walls and
- 34:17Speaker 1: stuff though. I could have sworn that we saw him
- 34:19Speaker 1: like do something once when he was in ghost form,
- 34:22Speaker 1: but maybe I'm making that up. Okay. Okay. I thought
- 34:27Speaker 1: that he was still able to like, you know, do
- 34:29Speaker 1: one or two things. But when he's in his ghost form,
- 34:37Speaker 1: remind me, is his skeleton just chilling, waiting for him
- 34:42Speaker 1: to come back to it? and can't move like that
- 34:50Speaker 1: is so wild can you imagine like stumbling across this
- 34:53Speaker 1: fucking skeleton that is apparently just a skeleton there's nothing
- 34:57Speaker 1: alive about it it's not moving around and then later
- 35:02Speaker 1: on you see that very same skeleton chatting fighting and
- 35:06Speaker 1: you're just like wait what that guy was dead of
- 35:10Speaker 1: course because he is a skeleton be very confusing Um,
- 35:18Speaker 1: so I'm trying to make sure that I cover everything. It's, uh,
- 35:23Speaker 1: it did surprise me a little bit that I was
- 35:26Speaker 1: only covering these two episodes this week because, or not
- 35:29Speaker 1: this week, because I think there's more tomorrow, but for
- 35:32Speaker 1: this episode, there's only two. Um, because there is a
- 35:37Speaker 1: lot of recovering the ground of the first episode and
- 35:40Speaker 1: the second one. And so I feel like I'm going
- 35:42Speaker 1: to be under time significantly. And, if you guys want
- 35:47Speaker 1: to ask some questions in the chat to like, you know,
- 35:50Speaker 1: fill out the time a little bit, there's really not
- 35:53Speaker 1: a lot to talk about beyond like what I've already
- 35:59Speaker 1: gone over, except for the reveal of Shinobu. Is that
- 36:05Speaker 1: her name? She is, she is with Nami and, Nami
- 36:16Speaker 1: gets like grabbed up in chains, I think. And Shinobu
- 36:23Speaker 1: rescues her from them. But then there is this figure
- 36:29Speaker 1: behind Nami who sort of walks up slowly in a
- 36:33Speaker 1: way that made me think that we were going to
- 36:35Speaker 1: recognize him as an audience, but I did not. I
- 36:38Speaker 1: don't know if we have seen him before and I
- 36:39Speaker 1: just forgot. But His name is, is it Honsu? Honsou?
- 36:48Speaker 1: And she used to know him back in the day.
- 36:52Speaker 1: And we get a flashback of her as a young woman,
- 36:59Speaker 1: very attractive, very much looking like Nami. She's in this
- 37:03Speaker 1: cool kind of jumpsuit thing. And evidently, she was a seductress.
- 37:10Speaker 1: we don't really see her seducing so much. This flashback
- 37:14Speaker 1: is a very generalized, like there's a group of men
- 37:18Speaker 1: around her and she just sort of like tosses her
- 37:21Speaker 1: hair and winks and all of them fall over it.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Like I, I know what we're going for here. So
- 37:29Speaker 1: that's fine. But it feels more like Boa Hancock and
- 37:37Speaker 1: her ability to, I thought when, because he first, he
- 37:40Speaker 1: says like the seduction thing, and then we get into
- 37:44Speaker 1: the flashback when he first says it before we see,
- 37:46Speaker 1: I thought it was going to be more of like
- 37:49Speaker 1: a black widow type thing where she's like, you know,
- 37:54Speaker 1: using her feminine wiles to get on the inside of
- 37:56Speaker 1: things and be a spy, get someone to trust her.
- 38:01Speaker 1: But it seems much more like she is just able
- 38:03Speaker 1: to literally lay men out with the fact that she's
- 38:07Speaker 1: so hot. Um, and she says, I think she says,
- 38:14Speaker 1: she brings up the fact that like he recognized her
- 38:17Speaker 1: and I think he's just fucking with her to make
- 38:21Speaker 1: her mad, but he pretty much immediately is like, actually,
- 38:24Speaker 1: I don't think you are the same person. She was
- 38:26Speaker 1: way hotter than you, which is just deeply hurtful and unnecessary, sir.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Why did you feel the need just to be a dick?
- 38:35Speaker 1: That's why, just because. And the fact that she had
- 38:42Speaker 1: this reputation and ability makes a lot of sense in
- 38:47Speaker 1: terms of the fact that she's still like coming on
- 38:50Speaker 1: strong with the mature woman thing these days, which I'm
- 38:55Speaker 1: not mad at. It's just, it's, it's very forced. So
- 39:02Speaker 1: I feel like you could go in a different direction
- 39:04Speaker 1: with this and that would be okay. But, um, The
- 39:10Speaker 1: reason that they wind up falling through the ceiling is
- 39:12Speaker 1: she uses her ability to, like, rot the floor that
- 39:17Speaker 1: they're standing on. And then they fall through. And they basically, like,
- 39:22Speaker 1: fall on top of Orochi. um and let me see
- 39:30Speaker 1: I'm just trying to like oh right there's um the
- 39:34Speaker 1: whole thing with Nami pulling Zeus out and she gives
- 39:40Speaker 1: him some weather eggs it's so weird that they're called
- 39:44Speaker 1: that but he like has this lightning attack that almost
- 39:52Speaker 1: makes it look like Orochi is vaporized. I do not
- 39:57Speaker 1: believe that's what happened, but the way that the animation plays,
- 40:01Speaker 1: it is very similar to the animation of the straw
- 40:06Speaker 1: hats and company on that mountain. When Kaido used his
- 40:11Speaker 1: like dragon breath power. And it, it reminds me of like,
- 40:19Speaker 1: the animation that one would use for a nuclear blast,
- 40:22Speaker 1: you know, I think he is going to turn out
- 40:27Speaker 1: to be okay. Unfortunately, I wouldn't mind if he was dead,
- 40:32Speaker 1: but it just seems too easy. If it does, if
- 40:36Speaker 1: it does turn out that Kimura Saki is dead, I'm
- 40:42Speaker 1: really going to be pissed just for the record. She
- 40:45Speaker 1: deserved better. If we're going to have somebody in this
- 40:49Speaker 1: scene die, obviously I would like it to be the Shogun.
- 40:53Speaker 1: And I also want to say that I think the
- 40:56Speaker 1: men that surround the Shogun are calling Nami a sorceress,
- 41:01Speaker 1: which I have to be real is rad as hell.
- 41:04Speaker 1: And I'm really liking this for her. You know, I've
- 41:07Speaker 1: frequently said how I wish that Nami had a little
- 41:11Speaker 1: bit more offensive power. We do see her doing more
- 41:14Speaker 1: with that. in this part of the arc, um, in
- 41:19Speaker 1: this like back half compared to the first 500 episodes,
- 41:23Speaker 1: but it's still not quite where I would like it
- 41:26Speaker 1: to be. But if we're going to be calling her
- 41:28Speaker 1: a sorceress, that kind of changes the whole vibe. You know,
- 41:34Speaker 1: I have been feeling weird about the climate attack rod
- 41:38Speaker 1: as a weapon because it just felt so goofy on
- 41:41Speaker 1: a certain level. But if we're going to, instead approach
- 41:45Speaker 1: it as like this is a wizard's staff and it's conjuring.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Now we're talking in a way that I wasn't seeing
- 41:53Speaker 1: it as. And this sort of changes it up. I
- 41:57Speaker 1: kind of want a costume change for her that reflects
- 42:01Speaker 1: her sorceress status now. So yeah, I just wanted to
- 42:07Speaker 1: register my approval of them referring to her in this
- 42:11Speaker 1: way because... why the fuck not? I, I genuinely am
- 42:18Speaker 1: surprised at myself that it didn't occur to me independently
- 42:23Speaker 1: to think of this as just straight up magic. And
- 42:26Speaker 1: I think that part of it is as much as
- 42:28Speaker 1: she can use this weapon and she can control what
- 42:31Speaker 1: it does. She didn't make it. It was given to
- 42:34Speaker 1: her by somebody else who was able to make it.
- 42:37Speaker 1: So that kind of makes it feel like Usopp is
- 42:39Speaker 1: the wizard, right? And she's more like Butters from Dresden Files,
- 42:44Speaker 1: you know? But I kind of... As much as that
- 42:49Speaker 1: is factually correct, I don't want to see it that way.
- 42:52Speaker 1: I would prefer to just look at it as she's
- 42:56Speaker 1: a sorceress. And I think I can get away with that,
- 43:00Speaker 1: at least in how I know everyone else is likely
- 43:03Speaker 1: going to respond to her, because they don't know where
- 43:05Speaker 1: she got this weapon. They don't know how all this works. So... Yeah,
- 43:09Speaker 1: they're going to be seeing her wielding it and interpreting
- 43:13Speaker 1: it as simply she knows how to use it because
- 43:17Speaker 1: she has this power. And I like it. I think
- 43:22Speaker 1: that's kind of great. So thumbs up on that. We
- 43:28Speaker 1: also have a really brief thing about how Captain Kidd escaped. Apparently,
- 43:36Speaker 1: Luffy has not escaped. Um, this is a sort of
- 43:43Speaker 1: an abrupt thing, but I'm assuming cause like Luffy had
- 43:49Speaker 1: been yelling toward him before about like sharing his food
- 43:52Speaker 1: and he wasn't getting an answer. So I feel like
- 43:55Speaker 1: that has to be linked somehow. But, um, Florian says,
- 44:00Speaker 1: I think her studying for two years made the weapon
- 44:03Speaker 1: what it is. Usopp followed her plans in my mind. Okay.
- 44:07Speaker 1: I like that. Or at least it is a collab. Yeah, okay.
- 44:11Speaker 1: I accept that. Headcanon accepted. But yeah, guys, that's pretty
- 44:17Speaker 1: much everything that I can recall. I'm going through this
- 44:23Speaker 1: and I don't feel like I really missed all that much.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Unless I were to go line by line, which I
- 44:30Speaker 1: don't feel is really necessary here. I am just real
- 44:35Speaker 1: sad about Komurasaki. But Florian says is there any Luffy
- 44:41Speaker 1: and honestly I don't think so I'm trying to let
- 44:45Speaker 1: me scrub through it again and see because like there's
- 44:48Speaker 1: oh wait there is a brief brief check in with
- 44:56Speaker 1: Luffy and this the old man who is saying like
- 45:01Speaker 1: basically thank you for making it so that I can
- 45:05Speaker 1: feast Hyogoro that's his name it's a real brief scene.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Luffy says, you're going to have to go and get
- 45:17Speaker 1: some breakfast because we're going to be putting in work today.
- 45:21Speaker 1: And he holds up all the tickets and says, thank you.
- 45:25Speaker 1: As he like heads off to get his food. And
- 45:32Speaker 1: that is, he's like being watched here, but it's a,
- 45:39Speaker 1: I feel like that one moment, it's like a really, sorry,
- 45:45Speaker 1: I'm trying to, here it is. This is when there's
- 45:49Speaker 1: somebody watching him, but we don't really get follow up
- 45:51Speaker 1: on exactly what all is going on there. It's just
- 45:55Speaker 1: the watching. There's a weird sound that this person makes
- 45:58Speaker 1: driving their like weapon into the ground and Luffy turning
- 46:03Speaker 1: and being like, what was that? And then a guard
- 46:06Speaker 1: yelling about how kid escaped. It's that's it. And we
- 46:11Speaker 1: don't come back to Luffy. And we don't really get
- 46:15Speaker 1: a reveal on who's watching this guy. I don't think
- 46:19Speaker 1: it's kid because the silhouette does not look right. I
- 46:23Speaker 1: don't remember what kid's weapon is. And there's like a
- 46:26Speaker 1: zero in on the food tickets in the guy's hand
- 46:29Speaker 1: as well. So I don't know what the significance is
- 46:32Speaker 1: of that, but yeah. Yeah. Florian says, what do you
- 46:40Speaker 1: want from this arc so far? Like a prediction. It's hard.
- 46:46Speaker 1: First of all, I want Kimura Saki to be alive.
- 46:48Speaker 1: I think I've established that, but what it's like, it's
- 46:56Speaker 1: so funny because like, I basically want the same thing
- 46:58Speaker 1: that I want in real life, which is for the
- 47:00Speaker 1: people who are exploiting everybody to be brought low, the
- 47:03Speaker 1: resources to be redistributed. And for the folks who are
- 47:07Speaker 1: in prison on false charges to be released, like all
- 47:10Speaker 1: of the things that I actually want are what I
- 47:12Speaker 1: also want in this arc. I don't, I don't have
- 47:20Speaker 1: anything like very specific in mind though. All of that
- 47:23Speaker 1: is like the big, vague, perfect ending and nothing specific,
- 47:28Speaker 1: you know? Yeah. Yeah. I'm sorry. Florian then says, will
- 47:37Speaker 1: the plan work out with the plan of Kinemon finding
- 47:40Speaker 1: allies to take down Kaido? I think it will, but
- 47:47Speaker 1: I think it will have to be changed. I think
- 47:49Speaker 1: what they're trying to do is they're focusing too much
- 47:52Speaker 1: on appealing to people that had been around. And I
- 47:54Speaker 1: think they need more folks than that because the fact
- 47:57Speaker 1: that they just vanished has shaken some faith. So I
- 48:01Speaker 1: think they're going to need to recruit some new blood
- 48:03Speaker 1: as well. And, you know, maybe we can recruit some
- 48:09Speaker 1: of the ladies to be ninjas if we make noodles again, Sanji. Actually,
- 48:16Speaker 1: you know, putting the fact that you were able to
- 48:18Speaker 1: draw a crowd to use this time around would be cool.
- 48:22Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind more women being in the mix. Yeah.
- 48:32Speaker 1: All right. Well, you know what? I am going to
- 48:33Speaker 1: wrap up because I'm sorry. I took a pain medicine
- 48:37Speaker 1: right before starting and I feel super nauseous now. So
- 48:39Speaker 1: I am going to wrap up a little bit early. Apologies.
- 48:43Speaker 1: I really, really appreciate you guys rolling with the punches
- 48:47Speaker 1: and the flexibility. It's just means a lot. So thank
- 48:51Speaker 1: you all again. Hope you're enjoying the coverage. Thank you, Florian.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Until next time, toodaloo, motherfuckers. That was an unspoiled network podcast.
