- 0:00Speaker 1: Final hour of the program, not only today but for
- 0:03Speaker 1: the week because the Thanksgiving holiday is upon us Thanksgiving tomorrow,
- 0:09Speaker 1: Black Friday Friday, and then of course college football on Saturday,
- 0:14Speaker 1: including Texas and Texas A and M. We've talked quite
- 0:16Speaker 1: a bit about it. We'll do some more this hour
- 0:19Speaker 1: as well. We'll also talk to some long worn men's
- 0:23Speaker 1: and women's basketball. We'll have some more of that for you.
- 0:25Speaker 1: We'll hear from a couple of long worn players as
- 0:28Speaker 1: we have already, and also from Texas women's head coach
- 0:32Speaker 1: Vic Shaffer. We'll get to all of that, but I
- 0:33Speaker 1: do want to start off this hour with some NFL
- 0:37Speaker 1: how do you feel, Cameron Parker? I don't know it's
- 0:41Speaker 1: going to evoke any feeling. And what do you think?
- 0:44Speaker 1: I guess is the best way to describe make of
- 0:47Speaker 1: Daniel Jones with the Minnesota Vikings.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Well from Minnesota, you know they've already lost JJ McCarthy
- 0:54Speaker 2: this year, so you know they have a backup that
- 0:57Speaker 2: has started a lot of NFL games. Now, danie je
- 1:00Speaker 2: Zones has not played in the playoff game. He has
- 1:02Speaker 2: not won a playoff game, and for a Vikings team
- 1:04Speaker 2: that I think despite the McCarthy injury, has hopes they
- 1:07Speaker 2: can make a playoff run with Sam Donald, who has
- 1:11Speaker 2: I think exceeded expectations this year. He's had good moments,
- 1:15Speaker 2: he's had some bad moments, but we played well in
- 1:17Speaker 2: overtime against the Bears. Definitely a big part of the
- 1:20Speaker 2: reason why the Vikings were able to win that game. So,
- 1:24Speaker 2: you know, I think for it's not going to move
- 1:26Speaker 2: the needle too much. I mean, their backup quarterback is
- 1:29Speaker 2: Nick Mullins and then they have Brett Rippion third stringers,
- 1:32Speaker 2: so two guys who have started before in the NFL.
- 1:35Speaker 2: But you know, I think you probably feel a little
- 1:37Speaker 2: bit more confident if something does happen to Sam Donald,
- 1:41Speaker 2: to have Genel Jones back there just in case.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Here's what's interesting about Donald. Of course, the Vikings are
- 1:46Speaker 1: nine and two, and Daniel Jones wanted to be traded
- 1:48Speaker 1: to a contender. Well, the Vikings are clearly a contender
- 1:51Speaker 1: for a wild card. They're still chasing the Lions right now.
- 1:56Speaker 1: But he is having a career year, is Darnold. He's
- 2:01Speaker 1: already passed his career high for touchdown passes in a
- 2:04Speaker 1: season with twenty one, and with an eye toward the future.
- 2:07Speaker 1: The Vikings are certainly looking at the fact that he's
- 2:10Speaker 1: gonna be a free agent on the open market, so
- 2:12Speaker 1: they could wind up losing him this year. So they
- 2:15Speaker 1: were able to get Daniel Jones on the cheap, really
- 2:21Speaker 1: three hundred and seventy five thousand bucks to pay for
- 2:24Speaker 1: the rest of the season. The Giants have what twenty
- 2:27Speaker 1: two million in dead camp cap money next year, so
- 2:30Speaker 1: they're gonna have to deal with that. Now. Jones is
- 2:32Speaker 1: going to start out off on the Vikings practice squad.
- 2:36Speaker 1: But it and that, by the way, also leaves open
- 2:39Speaker 1: the possibility he could sign with another team if another
- 2:42Speaker 1: starting quarterback goes down in three weeks, So yeah, it
- 2:49Speaker 1: could happen. He could. He could wind up signing with
- 2:53Speaker 1: another team if somebody gets hurt. So there's that, And
- 3:01Speaker 1: you know, there was all of that business about letting
- 3:04Speaker 1: Daniel Jones go. And what did you call him, Tommy
- 3:07Speaker 1: Cutlet's Tommy Cutler for Tommy DeVito. But sources have said
- 3:12Speaker 1: he's only a long shot to play against the Cowboys
- 3:15Speaker 1: tomorrow because he's got a forearm injuries. What does the
- 3:18Speaker 1: name Tim Boyle mean to you?
- 3:21Speaker 2: To the quarterback?
- 3:22Speaker 1: Yeah, he's the guy who's gonna it's not Drew Lock.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Uh No, it's probably gonna be Tim Boyle, is what
- 3:28Speaker 1: they're saying. It's probably gonna be the guy who will
- 3:31Speaker 1: get the start. Uh they're listed. No, I'm sorry, I
- 3:36Speaker 1: beg pardon, I jumped ahead, My eyes jumped ahead. You're right,
- 3:40Speaker 1: Drew Lock would start. Tim Boyle becomes the backup now
- 3:43Speaker 1: if something were to happen to Drew Locke. But you're right. Uh,
- 3:46Speaker 1: so Drew Locke gets the start uh in the game
- 3:50Speaker 1: uh tomorrow, So they said, Uh, Devita was not one
- 3:54Speaker 1: hundred percent to play because of the fore arm injury,
- 3:56Speaker 1: so probably not gonna play. Probably probably gonna be Drew
- 3:59Speaker 1: Lock going up there. So all you need is Tom
- 4:03Speaker 1: Herman up there with a backpack or something, you know,
- 4:05Speaker 1: the sidelines to kind of, you know, kind of tease
- 4:08Speaker 1: him a little bit. I don't know that. It probably
- 4:11Speaker 1: would be one way they could look at it. So
- 4:13Speaker 1: a couple of quarterback notes there for you. Also. JK.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Dobbins of course from Ohio State and from Lagrange, Texas, USA,
- 4:24Speaker 1: has a sprained mc l looks like he'll be out
- 4:28Speaker 1: just traded for just did you really? Oh? Looks like
- 4:32Speaker 1: he's going to be out against the Falcons week to week.
- 4:36Speaker 1: They're saying, so you know, maybe there's something there for him.
- 4:40Speaker 1: But yeah, and that was after the Ravens, of course
- 4:44Speaker 1: let him walk last season. But now it looks like
- 4:49Speaker 1: he's going to be out, So yeah, there's there's that
- 4:54Speaker 1: still going on. And I know this is going to
- 4:57Speaker 1: make you feel better. I know we were very concerned
- 5:00Speaker 1: about this, but Aaron Rodgers has said that he does
- 5:05Speaker 1: want to if he decides that he wants to play
- 5:07Speaker 1: next or it's with the Jets. Oh good, I know
- 5:10Speaker 1: that makes you feel better.
- 5:11Speaker 2: No, do the Jets want him to be their quarterback
- 5:13Speaker 2: next season? Asked the question.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Yeah. So he was on Pat mcavee show yesterday and
- 5:19Speaker 1: he said, I don't even know if I want to
- 5:20Speaker 1: play yet, but New York would be my first option.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Turns forty one on Monday, said he will base his
- 5:29Speaker 1: decision on how his body feels, and to your point,
- 5:32Speaker 1: whether the Jets want him back, he said, you want
- 5:36Speaker 1: to be in a spot where you feel like you
- 5:37Speaker 1: can win and you're valued.
- 5:40Speaker 2: So if you're a GM or head coach and interviewing
- 5:43Speaker 2: for that job, the first question you're asking Woody Allen
- 5:46Speaker 2: is Woody Johnson, Woody Johnson, Woody Allen's in the interview
- 5:50Speaker 2: room would be interesting, It would be very interesting.
- 5:52Speaker 1: What are we looking at here?
- 5:54Speaker 2: I read Rogers?
- 5:55Speaker 1: What's he gonna do for us?
- 5:57Speaker 2: You know they're asking, Yeah, what's happening with Rogers? Is
- 6:00Speaker 2: he skarying? Is he coming back? Because there's probably a
- 6:03Speaker 2: lot of head coaches and gms that do not want
- 6:05Speaker 2: him on the roster. Sabotaging the culture in the locker room?
- 6:10Speaker 1: Is he sabotaging him? The culture in the locker room
- 6:11Speaker 1: seems like it for a while, but it seemed like
- 6:14Speaker 1: everybody loved him there.
- 6:15Speaker 2: I don't think so. I don't think anyone loved him
- 6:17Speaker 2: at all except for himself and his honourage. Maybe Defonte
- 6:21Speaker 2: Adams and Alan Bazzard and Randall Cobb, who somehow got
- 6:25Speaker 2: a contract.
- 6:25Speaker 1: How about that? Rogers did say yesterday there was that
- 6:30Speaker 1: report by the Athletic that he wants to play in
- 6:32Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, but he doesn't want to play for
- 6:34Speaker 1: the Jets. He said, that's one hundred percent false. I'm
- 6:39Speaker 1: not jumping off the ship.
- 6:42Speaker 2: So yeah, so then where did the story come from?
- 6:46Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean you know when he was. He was
- 6:47Speaker 1: asked a couple of weeks ago if he wanted to
- 6:49Speaker 1: play in twenty twenty five. He said, yeah, I think so.
- 6:52Speaker 2: That sounds yeah, I'm convinced. If he's convinced, I'm convinced.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, uh, he said, when you're forty going on
- 7:00Speaker 1: forty one year, obviously, at the end of your career. Obviously,
- 7:03Speaker 1: if it's New York, they have to want me to
- 7:05Speaker 1: be here, and then the new GM, the new staff
- 7:09Speaker 1: all have to want me to be with the Jets.
- 7:12Speaker 1: And then body wise, I have to see how I'm
- 7:14Speaker 1: feeling and if I want to sign up to go
- 7:17Speaker 1: back to the grind and all that. But it feels
- 7:19Speaker 1: good I'm healthy now. It's not as much fun when
- 7:21Speaker 1: you're dealing with rehab all the time. So if I
- 7:23Speaker 1: can stay healthy the rest of the year and play
- 7:26Speaker 1: the way I want to play, and everybody feels good
- 7:28Speaker 1: about bringing me back, then there's a decision there. And
- 7:31Speaker 1: if not, then there's all the other options. I think
- 7:33Speaker 1: at this point, I'm opening everything and attached to nothing,
- 7:37Speaker 1: So it's a good place to be.
- 7:39Speaker 2: If the Jets were to cut them before June first,
- 7:44Speaker 2: it'd be a forty nine million dollar dead cap hit
- 7:47Speaker 2: the twenty twenty five season. Now, they were to release
- 7:49Speaker 2: him or trade him after June, first, it would be
- 7:52Speaker 2: fourteen million dollars, but then the rest of it would
- 7:56Speaker 2: roll over to twenty twenty six, which would be a
- 7:58Speaker 2: thirty five million dollars dead cat has.
- 8:01Speaker 1: So they're responsible for the cash one way or another
- 8:03Speaker 1: unless they do a cap friendly trade with somebody where
- 8:07Speaker 1: they pick up a lot of dollars. Can't see that happening. Really.
- 8:11Speaker 1: This is not to say that there wouldn't be a
- 8:13Speaker 1: team that would be interested in the him.
- 8:14Speaker 2: I'm sure there is.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, maybe if Henew Jones had not been interested
- 8:23Speaker 1: in the Vikings, the Vikings and Jones, that would have
- 8:25Speaker 1: been interesting. If he kind of pulled the Brett farv
- 8:28Speaker 1: you know, Green Bay to Minnesota in this case, Green
- 8:32Speaker 1: Bay Jets Minnesota, same type deal, right, same thing, Green
- 8:35Speaker 1: Bay Jets, Minnesota. It would be the exact same path
- 8:39Speaker 1: that Brett Favre took if it wound up doing all that. Anyway,
- 8:45Speaker 1: the interim coach, Jeff Olbrich said there's no internal discussion
- 8:50Speaker 1: that's been had yet about shutting down Rogers. He said
- 8:54Speaker 1: he will absolutely start Sunday against the Seahawks, and that
- 8:58Speaker 1: a healthy Aaron Rodgers is an Aaron Rodgers we all love.
- 9:03Speaker 1: So maybe they're maybe they're wrong. We all that's what
- 9:05Speaker 1: he says. We all speaking. Healthy Aaron Rodgers is an
- 9:09Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers we all love.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Here's the thing, Craig, He's forty one years old. You know,
- 9:16Speaker 2: every time he takes a hit or a sacker falls down,
- 9:19Speaker 2: you know, he takes like six seconds to get up.
- 9:22Speaker 2: You know, he's just he's at that point where he
- 9:24Speaker 2: does not want to get hit, and the more he
- 9:26Speaker 2: does get hit, the more likely he is to get hurt.
- 9:29Speaker 2: And you know, now you have an eighteen game schedule
- 9:31Speaker 2: plus the playoffs. You know, it's it's unlikely that he
- 9:34Speaker 2: can make it through a full season. I mean, look
- 9:36Speaker 2: at these young quarterbacks who go through a year. They
- 9:38Speaker 2: barely can make it through the year. Now you have
- 9:40Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers at forty one years old. It's coming off
- 9:42Speaker 2: a huge injury, able to come back, and obviously this
- 9:45Speaker 2: season he has not been healthy. It's definitely impacted his place.
- 9:49Speaker 2: So the whole would be well if he you know,
- 9:52Speaker 2: if he does get healthy. I just don't know if
- 9:54Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers will ever be healthy again in his life
- 9:56Speaker 2: to be able to play football.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Not healthy enough anyway to be effective in the and
- 10:01Speaker 1: he said he's not going on the ir unless he
- 10:03Speaker 1: really is injured. All right, Coming up, we're gonna shift
- 10:07Speaker 1: back college football. Talk more about those college football playoff rankings.
- 10:11Speaker 1: No big, no change at all for Texas. But there
- 10:14Speaker 1: are other seismic changes that could be happening out of this,
- 10:18Speaker 1: including including I've heard this and read this, and it's
- 10:23Speaker 1: kind of difficult to believe, but when you do a
- 10:27Speaker 1: deeper dive into the numbers, the possibility that the Big
- 10:34Speaker 1: twelve conference could be left completely out out of the playoffs,
- 10:39Speaker 1: not just not get to buy, I'm talking completely out.
- 10:44Speaker 1: How in the world could that happen? We'll talk about it.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Excellent Sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone of the
- 10:48Speaker 1: iHeartRadio app.
