- 0:00Welcome back to another episode of Spy Trader!
- 0:03I am your host, Sunny Sideup, coming to you live at 2:30 pm on Thursday, October 15th, 2026, here on the Pacific coast.
- 0:11We have a real whirlwind of a day to discuss, so grab your favorite beverage and settle in.
- 0:16The market is acting a bit like a seesaw right now.
- 0:19While the S&P 500, our favorite SPY, managed to squeak out a gain of zero point three three percent to end at seven thousand seven hundred fortyfour point zero six, the real story was the massive rotation we saw between sectors.
- 0:31The Dow Jones Industrial Average was the star of the show today, jumping over five hundred and fifty points, while the techheavy Nasdaq Composite barely stayed in the green after erasing a scary two percent drop from earlier this morning.
- 0:44Now, why all the drama?
- 0:45Well, inflation decided to bring the heat today and it was a bit spicier than anyone wanted.
- 0:51The Consumer Price Index for September hit three point seven percent, which is well above that two percent goal everyone is aiming for.
- 0:58But the real shocker was the Producer Price Index, or PPI, which surged one point three percent in a single month.
- 1:05That is one of the largest jumps in history, folks!
- 1:07With WTI Crude Oil sitting near ninetyfive dollars a barrel due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, energy costs are keeping things very sticky for all of us.
- 1:16This news has reignited fears that the Federal Reserve might hike interest rates again later this year.
- 1:21Currently, the tenyear Treasury yield is hanging out at five point zero six percent, which usually puts a lot of pressure on those highflying growth stocks.
- 1:29Speaking of pressure, the tech and AI sectors had what we call a minicrash earlier this week and a bit of a wobble today.
- 1:36Nvidia, the AI giant, fell one point eight four percent.
- 1:39However, it was not all gloom for tech, as Micron initially plummeted but fought its way back to finish up one point eight seven percent.
- 1:47It seems investors are starting to weigh the massive costs of AI infrastructure against how fast it can actually make money.
- 1:53We also saw Rocket Lab take a hit, dropping seven percent after they announced their nextgeneration Neutron rocket will not launch until 2027.
- 2:01Even Meta Platforms remained flat despite releasing a cool new openweight AI model called Muse Spark Open.
- 2:08On the brighter side of the street, defensive sectors like Health Care and Consumer Staples were the clear winners today.
- 2:14UnitedHealth Group, or UNH, absolutely knocked it out of the park with their thirdquarter results and even raised their guidance for the rest of the year, which really fueled that big Dow rally.
- 2:24Goldman Sachs also posted strong profit reports, showing that the big financial institutions are staying resilient despite high rates.
- 2:32Even Real Estate got some love today, with the Vanguard Real Estate ETF, ticker VNQ, rising about one point two eight percent.
- 2:39So, what is the game plan for your portfolio in this environment?
- 2:43First, I recommend increasing your exposure to the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund, known as XLV, and specifically UnitedHealth Group.
- 2:51In a higherforlonger interest rate world with persistent inflation, you want companies with high pricing power and essential services that people cannot live without.
- 3:00UNH is a great example of this.
- 3:02Second, for my tech enthusiasts, do not lose heart.
- 3:05I suggest a tactical approach of adding to the Invesco QQQ Trust or Micron on those big red days.
- 3:11Even though the AI hype is being tested, the structural shift in data centers is real.
- 3:16Micron’s revenue growth from thirtyseven billion in 2025 to over one hundred thirtythree billion this year proves that the money is flowing, even if the stock price is being a bit moody.
- 3:27Third, for some diversification and income, keep an eye on the Vanguard Real Estate ETF, VNQ.
- 3:32It is offering a three point six percent dividend yield right now.
- 3:37Since the construction of new buildings is finally slowing down, the value of existing properties is starting to firm up, making it a nice place to wait out the interest rate cycle.
- 3:47Finally, a word of caution: I would avoid longterm bonds like the iShares twentyplus year Treasury Bond ETF, or TLT, for now.
- 3:54With inflation looking this stubborn, there is a real risk that yields could keep climbing even higher toward five and a half percent.
- 4:01Keep your core balanced, stay diversified, and remember that volatility is just a chance to find a better price.
- 4:07I will be back with another update in a few hours.
- 4:10This is Sunny Sideup, wishing you happy trading and a great afternoon!
