Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Andrew Dickens: Why has National had a fiscal crack at Labour so early?
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: What a fascinating week in politics? What was Shane Jones
- 0:03Speaker 1: and what with Erika Sanford? And I mean it kicked
- 0:06Speaker 1: off on Sunday Nicola Willis alleging a massive hidden bill
- 0:09Speaker 1: in Labour's policies, and she also had a crack at
- 0:12Speaker 1: the lack of policies from Labor. And while that entertained
- 0:14Speaker 1: her base who believed that, there were many who said
- 0:18Speaker 1: she might have pulled the trigger too soon on that,
- 0:20Speaker 1: and there was something that said it was a classic
- 0:22Speaker 1: case of the pot calling the kettle black. So Heather
- 0:25Speaker 1: on this station said it was way too soon and
- 0:26Speaker 1: it should have been left closer to election day. Cameron
- 0:29Speaker 1: Baggriy came on this show and said that all parties
- 0:31Speaker 1: have hidden bills and because of our fiscal state, all
- 0:34Speaker 1: policies are going to have to be paid for by debt,
- 0:37Speaker 1: so there's hidden bills everywhere. So Nicholas shot could have
- 0:40Speaker 1: backfired on her. And then Audrey Young yesterday and The
- 0:44Speaker 1: Herald pointed out that last election, Nicola Willis released her
- 0:47Speaker 1: fiscal policy with costings only four days before advanced voting
- 0:53Speaker 1: started and seventeen days before election. This year's election is
- 0:59Speaker 1: our one hundred and forty one days away from today.
- 1:03Speaker 1: So look, I enjoy this election style BEFO because it's
- 1:05Speaker 1: great grist to the mill for people in my job
- 1:07Speaker 1: we have to talk this stuff. But I too wonder
- 1:10Speaker 1: why National pulled the trigger so early on what was
- 1:12Speaker 1: a nuclear weapon. It raises the question whether they're really
- 1:16Speaker 1: really worried about the opposition beating them. But you know,
- 1:19Speaker 1: it shows a hand and come election time, maybe labor
- 1:23Speaker 1: will be better prepared for the hard questions. But then again,
- 1:26Speaker 1: it's labor, so that's only maybe. For more from Early
