- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, thanks so much for joining me on this episode of the Daily Writer Podcast.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: This is the show where we what is it that we do exactly?
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: This is the show where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: You know, even though I've said that intro about uh 5,000 times, sometimes I still forget what it is, as weird as that is.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Anyway, let's dive into this episode.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: I was gonna cut that out, but I'm just gonna leave it in because, you know, we're all human, we all kind of screw up sometimes, so I'm just gonna leave that baby in there.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: All right, let's dive into today's episode.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: You know, so many aspiring authors never write their books because they're always worried about what other people will think.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Is their book gonna be quote unquote good enough?
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: You know, whatever that means.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Who really knows what good enough actually means?
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: What are their family and friends gonna think?
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Are their friends from high school, 10, 20, or 30 years ago, still going to think they're cool if they actually say that they're a writer and they write that book?
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Well, I say, who cares about all that stuff?
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Those people don't actually matter in your journey as a writer.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Because here's who does actually matter.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Who matters is the reader out there who's waiting for you to finish your book so they can read it.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: We think about a book typically as one-to-many communication because we think of all the people out there who might read our book or who might have an opinion about it.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: But that's actually false.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: A book is one-to-one communication.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: People read books as individuals, not typically as a group.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: So it's that one reader who just lost their child.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: It's that one reader who's going through divorce, it's that one reader who's thinking about taking their own life, it's that one reader who wonders if anybody understands what they're going through.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: That is the one reader that you're writing for, the person you're going to entertain, educate, or inspire to do something to make a change in their life.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: That's the person you're writing for.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: That one who's tired of spending all their energy keeping up their appearances, and they just want somebody to be honest and authentic about their life.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: They're looking for that connection with another human.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: So whether you write fiction or nonfiction, don't worry about what the imaginary crowd thinks.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Don't think about your friends from high school who you haven't seen in 30 years, who you're still worried about impressing and what are they gonna think of me and all that nonsense.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Don't worry about those people.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Just think about what your reader thinks and imagine how they're gonna love what you're delivering to them through your amazing book that you're writing.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Here's today's daily question Are you concerned about what your family and friends think about your writing?
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Why or why not?
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: And most importantly, be honest when you're answering that question.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
