- 0:01Speaker 1: I'll start Toyota Presents Off the Bench with Jacob Hester
- 0:04Speaker 1: and Matt Flynn say.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hester and Hester.
- 0:07Speaker 1: From carrying each other to and Natty to carrying each other.
- 0:12Speaker 1: On the air, there's control live from the Mercedes Benz
- 0:19Speaker 1: Baton Rouge Studio. It's off the bench.
- 0:39Speaker 3: What's up? Everybody?
- 0:42Speaker 4: Hour three off the Bench on this good Friday, Friday
- 0:46Speaker 4: morning before l s U takes on the cancer players.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Right now, we've talked a little baseball, We've talked a
- 0:54Speaker 4: little football. I don't know, we've talked about a lot
- 0:55Speaker 4: of crazy stuff today, but we're can bring it back,
- 0:58Speaker 4: bring it back to a little NFL football. Right now,
- 1:02Speaker 4: I'm gonna shoot it over to Taylor for Taylor's Tat's
- 1:07Speaker 4: let's say the're right, Tait's NFL story.
- 1:09Speaker 5: Fortunately they got it.
- 1:14Speaker 1: It's time for Tait's NFL Story of the Day, day,
- 1:17Speaker 1: your daily dose of NFL news from Taylor.
- 1:20Speaker 6: Sharp decided we're gonna keep it positive. You're on this Friday.
- 1:28Speaker 6: I can mention Shador Sanders going over one hundred and
- 1:31Speaker 6: two miles an hour faster than he processes his reads.
- 1:35Speaker 6: Don't want to go there, though, we could go Adrian
- 1:37Speaker 6: Peterson getting into a bar fight and getting arrested. We're
- 1:40Speaker 6: not going to do that. Because yesterday a little bit
- 1:43Speaker 6: of an under the radar move, which, if healthy, could
- 1:46Speaker 6: be the move of the offseason. The Multiple Ravens have
- 1:49Speaker 6: signed jay R Alexander. This is a one year, six
- 1:53Speaker 6: million dollars deal for a guy who is twenty eight
- 1:56Speaker 6: years old that the last full season he played, he
- 1:59Speaker 6: was an All Now he's only played in thirty four
- 2:02Speaker 6: of the possible sixty eight games the last two seasons,
- 2:05Speaker 6: so he's been there fifty percent of the time. But
- 2:07Speaker 6: if Jay, you're Alexander could stay healthy, Like that's a guy,
- 2:11Speaker 6: I mean, top five corner in the NFL, went fully healthy.
- 2:13Speaker 5: He's on a one year, six million dollar deal.
- 2:15Speaker 4: I actually had this in my nose to bring up today, Yeah,
- 2:18Speaker 4: because it is such a good signing. So apparently him
- 2:21Speaker 4: and him and Lamar Jackson are pretty close. So Lamar
- 2:25Speaker 4: Jackson was like had a press press conference beforehand, somebody
- 2:28Speaker 4: asked him about him. He kind of like played a
- 2:30Speaker 4: little mom little koy. But he takes a six million
- 2:32Speaker 4: dollar deal, takes a pay cut, and takes a does
- 2:36Speaker 4: a one year deal, And I love it because he
- 2:39Speaker 4: could have gone and made really good money, probably signed
- 2:42Speaker 4: a two to three year contract somewhere else.
- 2:45Speaker 3: But what he's doing, he wants to win. He's chasing
- 2:47Speaker 3: a ring, and.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Those are the kind of stories that Lea's fans should
- 2:51Speaker 4: kind of celebrate. A guy not trying to make the
- 2:53Speaker 4: most money can immediately and chase and chase the championship
- 2:58Speaker 4: team chase a ring.
- 2:58Speaker 6: So you got Marlin Hall for you. On the other side,
- 3:01Speaker 6: Kyle Hamilton's another safety. He drafted Malachi's Starks out of Georgia.
- 3:06Speaker 6: That's a damn good secondary all under the age of thirty.
- 3:09Speaker 6: And you get Jy're Alexander on basically the veteran minimum.
- 3:12Speaker 7: Andy got Nate Wiggins. It was pretty good last.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Year, all right, I see if they can kind of
- 3:18Speaker 3: get over that hump, we'll see.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Uh.
- 3:21Speaker 8: These are from Mama Flynn.
- 3:25Speaker 4: Right there, Holy Molly, Mama Flynn pretty sure correctly, Yes
- 3:32Speaker 4: you did just text me.
- 3:34Speaker 3: But she had a little delivery can.
- 3:35Speaker 8: All the way from Tyler Tex Ruth Flynn. I appreciate it,
- 3:38Speaker 8: shout out, miss Ruth.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I'm Flynn Flynn. Look at that. We're gonna share this
- 3:42Speaker 3: with a crowd.
- 3:44Speaker 9: Ah, the crowd goes crazy.
- 3:48Speaker 8: Look at these, I know if we doesn't have push
- 3:49Speaker 8: ups for two boxes?
- 3:53Speaker 7: Oh wow wow, ohamn, big cookies.
- 3:55Speaker 3: I mean, why is so big? These even cookies? That's
- 3:58Speaker 3: that's what they look like like many cakes.
- 4:01Speaker 7: That's a huge cookie. And then run with some big Today.
- 4:08Speaker 9: Today is like the day that you're like, doesn't matter.
- 4:11Speaker 9: Calories don't count your vers. They do not count.
- 4:15Speaker 3: When you're forty, though they count a little.
- 4:17Speaker 4: True.
- 4:17Speaker 7: No, no, no, we deny science.
- 4:18Speaker 9: Remember that's true, well, we said, but we also said
- 4:22Speaker 9: not all science.
- 4:23Speaker 8: We questioned it as well.
- 4:24Speaker 3: The math is pretty accurate. Math numbers numbers.
- 4:28Speaker 8: People lie, words, lie stories, lie. Numbers don't thanks. See.
- 4:33Speaker 7: I used to believe that until the Derek Carr fans
- 4:35Speaker 7: would be like, dude, look at his numbers. Man, he's
- 4:37Speaker 7: he's he's not the problem man, Derek Carr, he's a
- 4:40Speaker 7: top twelve.
- 4:41Speaker 8: Cor yards per attempt, so a big one in here.
- 4:44Speaker 6: But the numbers kind of do tell the story with Car, right,
- 4:48Speaker 6: because everybody talked about the empty numbers like his numbers
- 4:50Speaker 6: themselves are bad, except that when lost number like, the
- 4:52Speaker 6: numbers kind of actually do tell the story with Car.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Mhm, guess what you got a new card. We don't
- 5:00Speaker 3: get a new card.
- 5:01Speaker 5: We don't talk about it anymore.
- 5:03Speaker 7: He's I know, it feels like a piece of he's
- 5:06Speaker 7: missing piece of Mond.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Did y'all see that ESPN dropped a all quarter century team?
- 5:17Speaker 8: Were talking College of Pro Pro.
- 5:19Speaker 4: NFL All quarter century years last twenty five years. I
- 5:26Speaker 4: have not seen this, so I wanted to bring it up.
- 5:30Speaker 4: Let's see, I mean quarterbacks, got to say, do you
- 5:31Speaker 4: get do.
- 5:32Speaker 3: You have the guy that? Yeah?
- 5:33Speaker 5: I can look at it. It's on Twitter, right, Yeah,
- 5:36Speaker 5: I got it X.
- 5:38Speaker 3: And I was. I was going through it.
- 5:40Speaker 4: It's a pretty good list, obviously, you got a lot
- 5:42Speaker 4: of people to choose from, so that they kind of
- 5:43Speaker 4: tried to dabble into, you know, early two thousands men
- 5:47Speaker 4: like kind of throw in some current players as well.
- 5:52Speaker 4: I felt pretty good about it. Let's see here, I
- 5:54Speaker 4: got to pulled up. You mean, do you wanna kind
- 5:56Speaker 4: of roll through some of it? Yeah, well, let's we'll
- 5:58Speaker 4: start with the coaches first and then roll to the
- 6:00Speaker 4: quarterback because I didn't really have any issues with any
- 6:02Speaker 4: of them except for maybe one or two positions.
- 6:04Speaker 9: All right, So coaching staff, Bill Belichick, head coach Kyle
- 6:08Speaker 9: Shanahan OC Wade Phillips defensive coordinator.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Any I mean Belichick's yes, chalk answers. No one's gonna
- 6:19Speaker 4: argue with that, Shannon, I mean offensive coordinator. You can
- 6:21Speaker 4: just like you can probably pick ten ten different from
- 6:23Speaker 4: the same coaching tree.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Yeah, from the same coaching tree.
- 6:25Speaker 8: Sean McVay.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Yeah, everybody loves the Wade Phillips too.
- 6:29Speaker 9: Everybody does love Wade Phillips. Is he still coaching in
- 6:31Speaker 9: the UFL.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Or the UFL XFO whatever it was.
- 6:35Speaker 8: Yeah, I feel like he is.
- 6:36Speaker 9: All right, so let's go through this real quick and
- 6:38Speaker 9: maybe you know, we can come back to it as well.
- 6:40Speaker 8: Quarterbacks, you got three.
- 6:43Speaker 9: Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Patrick mahonmes.
- 6:47Speaker 5: Hard to argue with that.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Hard argue with that, I mean, yeah, if you argued
- 6:52Speaker 4: with it, you're just gonna based on the pure love
- 6:54Speaker 4: of somebody. But who would you tell so practice squad
- 7:01Speaker 4: Tom and Patrick, Yeah are above Peyton for me.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't like it to your teammates with them?
- 7:09Speaker 8: Oh no, I mean I get no, that's that's a
- 7:11Speaker 8: good argument.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Just from the rings from ring standpoint.
- 7:15Speaker 9: Practice squad Quarterbacks, practice squad, Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees
- 7:19Speaker 9: were the two Drew Brees.
- 7:20Speaker 8: I have no argument with that.
- 7:23Speaker 3: I would throw man, would you throw Big Ben in there?
- 7:28Speaker 6: Big Ben gets Yeah, completely good that that's a good
- 7:33Speaker 6: one to Super Bowls.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Yep.
- 7:35Speaker 4: I would throw Big Ben as as practice squad alternate.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Then the position that you know, love, I want to
- 7:43Speaker 4: know how you feel about this. Obviously you could have
- 7:46Speaker 4: been in the running for this one.
- 7:47Speaker 9: This is this is I thought you meant running back
- 7:53Speaker 9: way off?
- 7:53Speaker 8: Yeah, you shack no argument here? Uh maybe if I
- 7:57Speaker 8: if I actually.
- 7:59Speaker 3: How do you judge?
- 8:00Speaker 5: How do you do pure fullback?
- 8:03Speaker 8: He's got Lorenzo Lorenzo Neils. That was Miami Low Daddy.
- 8:07Speaker 4: So Kyle, he's got nine Pro Bowls, So that's like,
- 8:10Speaker 4: if you're going to base it off that, that's probably.
- 8:13Speaker 9: He's a better overall player for sure. But low Daddy
- 8:17Speaker 9: was like the ultimate lead blocker.
- 8:20Speaker 8: Yeah, so Lorenzo, I.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Couldn't tell you a thing about him, So I'm gonna
- 8:25Speaker 3: go on your judgment there.
- 8:27Speaker 9: The running backs though, Priest Holmes, Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry,
- 8:34Speaker 9: this is a this is a practice squad Ledani and Thomlinson.
- 8:36Speaker 9: I don't think I'm practicing squad and Adrian Peterson he
- 8:41Speaker 9: might not have quick hands anymore, but Christian McCaffrey and.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Priest homes So Adrian Peterson seven times, seven Pro Bowls
- 8:51Speaker 4: for All Pros, Rookie of the Year, No. Seven Offensive
- 8:55Speaker 4: Player of the Year, and NFL in the NFL MVP
- 8:59Speaker 4: twenty twelve, and then that year he had two thousand
- 9:02Speaker 4: ninety seven yards, which was eight off the NFL record.
- 9:05Speaker 7: Off the torn ACL, off.
- 9:06Speaker 3: The torn ACL.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Danian Tomlinson five Pro Bowls, six All Pro, one time
- 9:14Speaker 4: NFL MVP. When when you got a running back that
- 9:16Speaker 4: wends the NFL MVP, that's a dude.
- 9:20Speaker 3: It probably should better than practice squad.
- 9:22Speaker 4: One hundred and forty five rushing touchdowns for LT Yeah,
- 9:27Speaker 4: what about running past it would and then another person
- 9:30Speaker 4: out throwing.
- 9:31Speaker 3: This is Frank Gore.
- 9:32Speaker 4: He doesn't have like the like the individual awards longevity six.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Let's see fourteen of his sixteen seasons he played sixteen
- 9:41Speaker 4: plus games in him as a running back, sixteen thousand
- 9:45Speaker 4: career rushing yards. I think that's third all time, but
- 9:47Speaker 4: behind Emmitt Smith and Walter.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Payton, right, they're pretty good, pretty decent. Then it's Frank Gore.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I'll probably throw him in there over Christian McCaffrey. You
- 9:57Speaker 4: can't argue with Dary like they're trying to throw somebody
- 9:59Speaker 4: like Current in right.
- 10:00Speaker 9: So Derek Henry, Yeah yeah, yeah, but no LT and
- 10:05Speaker 9: a D which is what Adrian Peterson's name was for
- 10:08Speaker 9: all day, are gonna be on my team.
- 10:10Speaker 8: They're not gonna be.
- 10:11Speaker 3: On the practice quad. Yeah that's bad.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Uh Ap did get work though slow, like just he
- 10:17Speaker 4: got glasses. He caught it, got two pieces. It didn't
- 10:21Speaker 4: really phase him, but he caught it.
- 10:23Speaker 7: Uh.
- 10:24Speaker 9: Receivers Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson, Julio Jones, Terrell Owens, Marvin Harrison,
- 10:31Speaker 9: and Justin Jefferson practice squad Antonio Brown like Andre Johnson.
- 10:38Speaker 7: So Larry Fitzgerald doesn't exist anymore.
- 10:40Speaker 6: Well so not only that, I love Julio Jones. There's
- 10:44Speaker 6: no reason he should be over t O and Calvin Johnson.
- 10:47Speaker 4: This is not like this is a pretty good list
- 10:50Speaker 4: except for ye know, Julio does have more career yards
- 10:55Speaker 4: than Calvin Johnson.
- 10:58Speaker 6: Yeah, Calvin retired early, cal I retired at thirty.
- 11:04Speaker 4: But you're picking one wide receiver from twenty two thousand.
- 11:12Speaker 8: Five, like if my life depended on getting.
- 11:15Speaker 3: If your life depended on just one.
- 11:17Speaker 8: Receiver, who you picking like to get open to.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Make it to make a play. No, I don't know
- 11:23Speaker 3: if it's gonna get open, it's going to make him play.
- 11:25Speaker 7: Oh seven, Randy Moss.
- 11:27Speaker 6: Okay, I really want to go, Larry. It's like, I'm
- 11:33Speaker 6: not I'm not. I'm not saying it open because a
- 11:35Speaker 6: lot of these people catch the ball when they're not open.
- 11:37Speaker 6: Like if you got if you have to put one
- 11:39Speaker 6: receiver one game, one one for your life.
- 11:44Speaker 7: Are you doing oh seven?
- 11:45Speaker 3: Randy Moss, I don't know.
- 11:47Speaker 5: I don't know if it's that easy.
- 11:50Speaker 8: Cooper Cup had a triple crown.
- 11:52Speaker 6: I have only I've always been a big Larry Fitzgerald guy.
- 11:58Speaker 7: I guess I'll go.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Randy. Don't know.
- 12:00Speaker 8: Man, Jets, y'all might think he's too early on this list.
- 12:03Speaker 7: He's on the way. He's on the way.
- 12:05Speaker 4: You guys are crazy. It is one Megatron.
- 12:12Speaker 7: Respect the Megatron.
- 12:13Speaker 5: For for sure.
- 12:14Speaker 8: Like that he's play in the division.
- 12:16Speaker 3: So you saw him way more than a whole lot.
- 12:18Speaker 3: I saw him catch.
- 12:20Speaker 4: I think he got three bills against US one one game.
- 12:25Speaker 9: The checkdown for the Lions at that time was Stafford
- 12:30Speaker 9: would tap his helmet and Megatron would go to the
- 12:34Speaker 9: end zone and Stafford would just throw it up.
- 12:36Speaker 8: They did to that. They did that to us twice, Like.
- 12:40Speaker 9: Stafford back rolling out, tap his head and then who
- 12:45Speaker 9: and then Megatron took it off of Wettle's helmet twice.
- 12:47Speaker 9: What was in perfect position was a baller. Yeah, I
- 12:51Speaker 9: means like all decades.
- 12:52Speaker 4: October twenty seventh, twenty thirteen, Calvin Johnson three and twenty
- 12:58Speaker 4: nine yards receiving against the cow.
- 13:00Speaker 7: Yeah, that's ridiculous.
- 13:01Speaker 9: Yeah, remember I just let me just all right, hold on,
- 13:04Speaker 9: I just saw this list, and let's get to the
- 13:07Speaker 9: tight end position. And I don't have time in this
- 13:09Speaker 9: segment to say what I want to say. Man, oh
- 13:12Speaker 9: my god. Like the people that don't respect Antonio Gates.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Is he is the only practice quad.
- 13:18Speaker 8: Yeah, it's wild.
- 13:19Speaker 9: Let's go to Let's go to our guy Ross Jackson.
- 13:21Speaker 9: We'll join us talk a little New Orleans Saints. Speaking
- 13:24Speaker 9: of tight end position, that's a kind of an important
- 13:26Speaker 9: one for the Saints. We'll break it all down with
- 13:28Speaker 9: Ross when we come back here.
- 13:30Speaker 8: It is otb off the bench. I mean, teams used.
- 13:35Speaker 9: To guard gates like it was phunt, Like they put
- 13:39Speaker 9: two guys on him, like he was a gunner.
- 13:41Speaker 8: What are we doing here? Go Central Plumbing dot org.
- 13:44Speaker 8: Central Plumbing dot Org.

- 14:34Speaker 1: listening to off the Bench.
- 14:36Speaker 9: All right, welcome back again, O TV one oh four
- 14:39Speaker 9: five ESPN Baton Rouge. It is now time that we're
- 14:42Speaker 9: gonna talk a little New Orleans Saints with our guy
- 14:45Speaker 9: Ross Jackson.
- 14:46Speaker 8: You know him, you love him, Host of lockdown.
- 14:49Speaker 9: Saints of course does big things here for us losing
- 14:51Speaker 9: sports dot Net Ross, what's going on?
- 14:53Speaker 8: Man? How you doing? Are really glad to be there?
- 14:59Speaker 8: Ex Man?
- 15:03Speaker 9: You know, it's a time of the year where you
- 15:06Speaker 9: get excited about certain players, but then you start to
- 15:08Speaker 9: question certain players. It's like mini camp season, right, It's
- 15:12Speaker 9: like you fall in love with these guys that aren't
- 15:14Speaker 9: even going to be there in September, and then like
- 15:16Speaker 9: you hate on these guys and it's like the guys
- 15:18Speaker 9: that the Saints are counting on the most. Like it's
- 15:19Speaker 9: one of my favorite times of the year to talk INFL,
- 15:22Speaker 9: just because there's so much unknown already. Like, no matter
- 15:25Speaker 9: what team you're talking about or else, with this Saints team,
- 15:29Speaker 9: they might have the most unknown of any team in
- 15:31Speaker 9: the NFL.
- 15:32Speaker 10: Yeah, dude, they are one of the big mysteries of
- 15:35Speaker 10: the league right now. And that's for certain. I mean
- 15:37Speaker 10: everything down to you obviously, like who the starting quarterback
- 15:41Speaker 10: is going to be is the course of history. But
- 15:43Speaker 10: first year head coach, first year defensive coordinator in New Orleans,
- 15:47Speaker 10: at least you have a lot of turnover. You have
- 15:50Speaker 10: offensive system changing, defensive system changing. There's so many big
- 15:53Speaker 10: question marks around this team, not all of which bad,
- 15:57Speaker 10: right It's not question marks like, oh, are they going
- 15:59Speaker 10: to be able to do this? They can do that,
- 16:01Speaker 10: though there are those things. It's a lot of question
- 16:03Speaker 10: marks that also just center around what does this team
- 16:06Speaker 10: look like, what is their new identity, and who are
- 16:08Speaker 10: they as they move ahead? So makes them a big
- 16:10Speaker 10: mystery this year in terms of, you know, trying to
- 16:12Speaker 10: predict or project where it thinks you're.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Going to go for.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Give me sure reaction you run up quarterbacks. So that's
- 16:21Speaker 4: what I'm always going to lean to first and foremost
- 16:23Speaker 4: because it's the it's the you know, hardest position to
- 16:26Speaker 4: play in all of sports, it's the most important position
- 16:28Speaker 4: to play. And there's a bona fide QB competition right now.
- 16:31Speaker 4: And we know both quarterbacks have had their moments where
- 16:35Speaker 4: they've looked good, and we we hear that that's been
- 16:37Speaker 4: really efficient at practice. So I'm always kind of curious
- 16:41Speaker 4: as to which one of these guys has, like, is
- 16:44Speaker 4: has anybody stepped in front as somebody that has looked
- 16:47Speaker 4: like he's taken charge of the offense, taking charge of
- 16:50Speaker 4: the line of scrimmage, looks more in control right now.
- 16:53Speaker 3: I mean, you would usually.
- 16:54Speaker 4: Side with the guy that's been there the longest that
- 16:56Speaker 4: that happens, but you know, Spencer's only been there a year,
- 16:59Speaker 4: so it's not like he's like a season vet or anything.
- 17:01Speaker 4: Is there one guy that stands out that's looked like
- 17:03Speaker 4: he's kind of taken over from like just a verbal standpoint,
- 17:07Speaker 4: from a present standpoint.
- 17:08Speaker 10: Yeah, Like I would say, both of these guys have
- 17:11Speaker 10: done things really well in those categories, but the one
- 17:14Speaker 10: of the two that probably stands out the most there
- 17:16Speaker 10: is Spencer Rattler. He's had a year of NFL experience,
- 17:19Speaker 10: like you mentioned, which you're right, isn't a lot, but
- 17:22Speaker 10: it is a big difference between having a year and
- 17:24Speaker 10: not having a year, like that gap I think is
- 17:26Speaker 10: bigger than you know, people outside of the game realize,
- 17:29Speaker 10: and so I think that that is something that has
- 17:31Speaker 10: set Spencer Ratler up pretty well to kind of show
- 17:34Speaker 10: out in OTAs and in Mini camp. I have him
- 17:37Speaker 10: with fifty nine passing attempts over there, both quarterbacks of
- 17:40Speaker 10: fifty nine passing attempts over the course of what we
- 17:42Speaker 10: were able to see as media, with him completing forty five.
- 17:44Speaker 10: So you see an efficiency there. You see an efficiency
- 17:47Speaker 10: in terms of his ability also to just kind of
- 17:50Speaker 10: have a more sped up clock, like these guys have
- 17:52Speaker 10: not done any eleven on elevens. We should keep that
- 17:54Speaker 10: in mind. It's all seven on sevens or nine on seven,
- 17:56Speaker 10: so literally every throwing, every passing lane is wide open,
- 18:00Speaker 10: all these other things from from a trench's standpoint, But
- 18:04Speaker 10: what we haven't seen Spencer Ratler do with a lack
- 18:06Speaker 10: of pass rush is get comfortable and hold on to
- 18:09Speaker 10: the ball and wait for receivers to make DB's cover
- 18:12Speaker 10: two or three routes. He's operated in a take the
- 18:15Speaker 10: take the snap, drop back hitch throw like he just
- 18:18Speaker 10: has his rhythm. Everything's on time, which is really important
- 18:21Speaker 10: for a Kellen Moore offense, which is very much about timing.
- 18:24Speaker 10: It's a lot of pre snap designation which kind of
- 18:26Speaker 10: tells everybody what needs to be done protection wise, and
- 18:29Speaker 10: then in the passing game, it's a timing game. And
- 18:33Speaker 10: that's going to be a little bit that's probably going
- 18:34Speaker 10: to look a little bit more familiar to what Saints
- 18:37Speaker 10: two Saints fans in terms of what they used to
- 18:39Speaker 10: watch versus what they've seen in the recent past that
- 18:41Speaker 10: I think so far Spencer Ratler has just kind of
- 18:44Speaker 10: gotten the timing of the offense pretty well, moves a
- 18:47Speaker 10: little bit more efficiently, gets out in and out of
- 18:49Speaker 10: the huddle with a little with a little bit more
- 18:52Speaker 10: of a sense of urgency, gets through his reads, is
- 18:55Speaker 10: using the entire field kind of doing all these things,
- 18:58Speaker 10: and he's operating on a clock that he does need
- 19:00Speaker 10: to operate on because he has all the time in
- 19:01Speaker 10: the world, but he's not, you know, buying into that.
- 19:04Speaker 10: And so I would say that those are the reasons
- 19:05Speaker 10: why I would say that Spencer Ratler maybe stands out
- 19:07Speaker 10: a little bit more in that category, but it is,
- 19:10Speaker 10: you know, both of these guys have shown proficiencies in
- 19:12Speaker 10: that area for sure.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:14Speaker 4: I think it's kind of known in the NFL world
- 19:16Speaker 4: that the biggest jump for a quarterback, you know, any
- 19:19Speaker 4: position really, but specifically at quarterback, the jump from year
- 19:24Speaker 4: one to two is the most important. Like it's it's
- 19:27Speaker 4: the biggest gap that they cover from year one to two.
- 19:31Speaker 4: And so if you don't make that jump from one
- 19:33Speaker 4: to two, you're never gonna have like it's hard to
- 19:37Speaker 4: like make the jump on your three, year, four, five, six, seven,
- 19:39Speaker 4: whatever whatever. It's going to be so the fact that
- 19:42Speaker 4: like Shuck is competing with that and like keeping up
- 19:44Speaker 4: with it and making it, keeping up with a guy
- 19:46Speaker 4: that is doing that. Like, as Saints fans, you should
- 19:49Speaker 4: hope that Spencer Spencer does take that jump that everybody
- 19:52Speaker 4: talks about. And so the completion percentage're talking about is great,
- 19:56Speaker 4: it's a great stat but just like you said, there's
- 19:57Speaker 4: no eleven on eleven, so it's a glorified like playing
- 20:00Speaker 4: catch out there. So it's going to be so widely
- 20:01Speaker 4: important once they get the pads on, taking the snaps,
- 20:04Speaker 4: guys hitting around them, all that stuff. But let's talk
- 20:07Speaker 4: about the completion percentage. How are they spread, Like the receivers,
- 20:10Speaker 4: who's kind of stepping up as a two to three receiver?
- 20:12Speaker 4: How are the tight ends looking? Who are they feeding
- 20:15Speaker 4: the ball to during these practices?
- 20:17Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, look, you're seeing a lot of Krysalova,
- 20:19Speaker 10: You're seeing a lot of reshoots, you heat, There's no
- 20:21Speaker 10: doubt about that, and that's exactly what you should expect, right, Like,
- 20:23Speaker 10: those are the top two guys when it comes to
- 20:25Speaker 10: the passing game, all those pieces, and so those guys
- 20:28Speaker 10: have been a core focus. But we've also seen this
- 20:31Speaker 10: ball move around a lot. You know, tight ends like
- 20:33Speaker 10: Michael Jacobson as well as Juwan Johnson and Jack Stall
- 20:37Speaker 10: all getting involved. You know, running backs that have completions
- 20:41Speaker 10: written down to guys like Alvin Kamara, but have also
- 20:42Speaker 10: had completions written down to like Cam Akers. Right, So
- 20:45Speaker 10: some stuff you know happening out of the backfield. There
- 20:47Speaker 10: Clydewards layer as well, And so we're seeing sort of
- 20:50Speaker 10: all three of the core positions wide receiver, tight end,
- 20:53Speaker 10: and running back. When it comes to pass catching, we're
- 20:56Speaker 10: seeing really all three of those areas getting opportunit. And
- 21:00Speaker 10: one of the reasons why I were receiving that is because,
- 21:02Speaker 10: like if you look earlier on during OTAs, we saw
- 21:05Speaker 10: a lot of downfields, you know, they were pushing the
- 21:07Speaker 10: ball downfield and know these other things. But then when
- 21:09Speaker 10: they got into mini camps, Kellen Moore kind of split
- 21:11Speaker 10: the script on them and had them working on situations,
- 21:14Speaker 10: so third and short, first and ten second and long
- 21:17Speaker 10: all these other kinds of things. And so you were
- 21:20Speaker 10: asked in that case as a quarterback to go out
- 21:24Speaker 10: there and do what makes sense. So it wasn't always
- 21:27Speaker 10: push it down the field or hit the intermediate area
- 21:30Speaker 10: or try to make the big play, try to stand
- 21:31Speaker 10: out in front of the fans that were in attendance,
- 21:34Speaker 10: which could have really driven these guys to want to
- 21:35Speaker 10: show out maybe a little bit more to you know,
- 21:37Speaker 10: hype the energy up whatever. And instead it was third
- 21:42Speaker 10: and three and you know, you have a checkdown available
- 21:45Speaker 10: behind a lot of scrimmage that can get three yards
- 21:47Speaker 10: after the catch to get to a first down. You
- 21:49Speaker 10: take that. It's second and five. You have an opportunity
- 21:52Speaker 10: to complete a slant for you know, three to five
- 21:55Speaker 10: yards and live for a third down. You take that.
- 21:58Speaker 10: And so we saw them also kind of work them
- 22:00Speaker 10: through decision making with situational context. And I think that's
- 22:04Speaker 10: another place where you kind of saw these guys stand
- 22:06Speaker 10: out quite a bit, is that they didn't buy into
- 22:08Speaker 10: the idea of pushing the ball down the field and
- 22:10Speaker 10: trying to generate that excitement. They instead bought into the
- 22:12Speaker 10: idea of making the thirds that win football games. And
- 22:14Speaker 10: I think that was a really smart move by Kellen
- 22:17Speaker 10: Moore to kind of throttle them down to that point,
- 22:20Speaker 10: even in those seven on sevens or nine on sevens,
- 22:22Speaker 10: just kind of makes them think about an extra thing
- 22:24Speaker 10: and kind of see how they operated in that context.
- 22:28Speaker 9: All right, so any young quarterback orross is going to
- 22:30Speaker 9: want to be able to turn around and hand it
- 22:32Speaker 9: off to a strong running game, strong running back behind
- 22:36Speaker 9: a strong offensive line. I want to go to running
- 22:38Speaker 9: back because that's going to take a lot of pressure
- 22:39Speaker 9: off whoever the starting quarterback is.
- 22:41Speaker 8: We know Ak is going to be the lead back.
- 22:44Speaker 8: But you've made some moves.
- 22:45Speaker 9: You've drafted running backs, You've signed veteran running backs in
- 22:48Speaker 9: Clyde Edwards, d Lair, you signed Cam.
- 22:50Speaker 8: Akers the other day. What does that position look like
- 22:53Speaker 8: for you?
- 22:54Speaker 9: Certainly behind Ak, because they're going to need more than
- 22:57Speaker 9: just one guys we've seen over the last couple of years,
- 23:00Speaker 9: and they brought in a lot of different guys with
- 23:01Speaker 9: a lot of different experience.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:04Speaker 10: I mean there's eight different running backs I think in
- 23:07Speaker 10: the room right now if I'm counting correctly. And they
- 23:11Speaker 10: brought them in from the draft, undrafted, free agency, from
- 23:14Speaker 10: free agency guys that they retained as well, And so
- 23:16Speaker 10: they have a really eclectic group here. You know, kind
- 23:19Speaker 10: of smaller guys that are willing, that can run really well.
- 23:23Speaker 10: They have the one cut guys like Kendre Miller, and
- 23:26Speaker 10: Devin Neil. They have the veteran guys like Clyde Ridge
- 23:30Speaker 10: Laire and Cam Akers and Bayless Jones Junior who has
- 23:32Speaker 10: some versatility to his game. Like, they have a big,
- 23:34Speaker 10: kind of very eclectic group of these running backs. So
- 23:37Speaker 10: I'm really interested to see where things go. The logic says, Okay,
- 23:41Speaker 10: you have Alvin Kamara who has this incredible ability still
- 23:45Speaker 10: going into year nine in space and doing all the
- 23:49Speaker 10: things that he does, you know, outside of the tackles
- 23:52Speaker 10: and in the receiving game and all this stuff. So
- 23:54Speaker 10: then the logic feels like, okay, so who's going to
- 23:56Speaker 10: be kind of the between the tackles bruiser. If that's
- 23:59Speaker 10: the way that the go, then I think that's where
- 24:01Speaker 10: guys like Handmakers, Ken dre Miller. I would even throw
- 24:04Speaker 10: Claude Rizilier in there. That's kind of where those guys
- 24:06Speaker 10: come in. Devin Neil as well. And then you're looking
- 24:10Speaker 10: for a kind of a complimentary third piece. So it's
- 24:12Speaker 10: going to be a pretty major competition here. And keep
- 24:14Speaker 10: in mind too, the same kind of second tier rusher
- 24:18Speaker 10: that they've really leaned on for a long time, and
- 24:21Speaker 10: for many many years, it's been Taysom Hill not even
- 24:23Speaker 10: a running back right, but he might not be available
- 24:26Speaker 10: at the beginning of the season. We'll see where things
- 24:28Speaker 10: are for him from a health standpoint. But if they
- 24:30Speaker 10: have to be without him, and they are really going
- 24:33Speaker 10: to have to make sure that they're getting production in
- 24:35Speaker 10: the run game from another player not named Alvin Kamara,
- 24:38Speaker 10: they won't. They might not have Taysom Hill to fall
- 24:41Speaker 10: back on. And so whoever these running backs are that
- 24:44Speaker 10: end up making the roster, I think a guy like
- 24:46Speaker 10: Devin Neil feels like a clear, you know, possibility, as
- 24:49Speaker 10: he was drafted by this organization. Ken dre Miller has
- 24:52Speaker 10: been around for a couple of years, and so you know,
- 24:54Speaker 10: those are the names that probably stand out. But really,
- 24:56Speaker 10: any of these guys have a wide open path to
- 24:58Speaker 10: making the roster based on what it is that he
- 25:00Speaker 10: can do, and whoever gets those opportunities don't need to
- 25:03Speaker 10: make the most of them because the Saints are not
- 25:05Speaker 10: going to have Taysom Hill to fall back on, likely
- 25:08Speaker 10: early on in the season, in order to be able
- 25:10Speaker 10: to compliment that run game.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Yeah, Ross, Let's look to the other side of the
- 25:13Speaker 4: ball here on defense and new defensive coordinator Brandon Staley
- 25:18Speaker 4: comes in taking over installing new defenses, new defensive schemes.
- 25:22Speaker 4: So the Saints in the past, have you kind of
- 25:24Speaker 4: always run like the Dennis Allen type of defense where
- 25:27Speaker 4: it's a little it's a little tricky, it's a little
- 25:29Speaker 4: off pace for quarterbacks. They used to do a lot
- 25:31Speaker 4: of two inverts and two fire zones, like some different situations.
- 25:35Speaker 3: But what have you seen.
- 25:37Speaker 4: I know it's hard when we don't have pads on
- 25:38Speaker 4: we're not doing eleven on eleven. But what do you
- 25:40Speaker 4: expect to see from the defense schematically? Is a lot
- 25:43Speaker 4: of one high two highs. Have they been shown anything?
- 25:46Speaker 4: Is what percentage pressure situations as a high high pressure guy.
- 25:51Speaker 4: Have they shown any of that?
- 25:53Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 25:54Speaker 10: I think I would expect just looking back at Brandon
- 25:57Speaker 10: Staley's track record, probably some middle of field closed type
- 26:01Speaker 10: of defenses, so cover one, cover three, things like that
- 26:04Speaker 10: that kind of populate the middle of the field and
- 26:06Speaker 10: then force you know, quarterbacks to look to the perimeter.
- 26:09Speaker 10: But it's interesting because the NFL has really gone to
- 26:12Speaker 10: kind of too high split safety looks as a means
- 26:15Speaker 10: of trying to take away the big explosive plays and
- 26:18Speaker 10: kind of force the run game. So we're watching offenses
- 26:20Speaker 10: get bigger, more two tight ends, that's more two running
- 26:22Speaker 10: back sets, because that's a that's a way to counter
- 26:25Speaker 10: the Okay, you're going to take away the big play
- 26:27Speaker 10: over the top, but now you're light in the box,
- 26:30Speaker 10: let me go ahead and attack that. And so I
- 26:31Speaker 10: think you're going to see a little bit of everything
- 26:33Speaker 10: when it comes to Brandon Saley's defense. But I think
- 26:35Speaker 10: that you'll notice as a big change from what Brent,
- 26:40Speaker 10: what Dennis Allen used to do. It's kind of a
- 26:42Speaker 10: transition from sort of the pressman back to the quarterback
- 26:46Speaker 10: eyes on the route runner type of scheme to a
- 26:50Speaker 10: more zone match pattern matching eyes in the backfield kind
- 26:55Speaker 10: of coverage. And that's going to open up. And I've
- 26:57Speaker 10: talked to a lot of the defensive players that'll be
- 27:00Speaker 10: impacted by that, and they a lot of them feel
- 27:02Speaker 10: that it's going to open them up to go out
- 27:04Speaker 10: there and make more plays like the Saints had I
- 27:06Speaker 10: think it was eleven interceptions over the course of the
- 27:08Speaker 10: first nine or so games, and then they had only
- 27:11Speaker 10: three interceptions for the rest of the way throughout the
- 27:14Speaker 10: rest of the season. And so this is the secondary
- 27:17Speaker 10: that's hungry to go out there and make plays. And
- 27:20Speaker 10: a lot of those members believe that what Brandon Staley's
- 27:24Speaker 10: defense will do with allowing them to keep their eyes
- 27:25Speaker 10: in the backfield should allow them to be able to
- 27:27Speaker 10: kind of do that. Read the quarterback's eyes. Go out there,
- 27:30Speaker 10: be attacking, be aggressive, and go try to make plays
- 27:32Speaker 10: on the football. I think the other changes that you're
- 27:34Speaker 10: going to see are the ones that you know, we've
- 27:37Speaker 10: been talked about quite a bit with stand up pass
- 27:38Speaker 10: rushers and things like that, taking advantage of athleticism and speed.
- 27:41Speaker 10: But I do think that those eyes in the backfield
- 27:44Speaker 10: could help the Saints with another big thing that they've
- 27:46Speaker 10: troubled with over the course of the past few years,
- 27:48Speaker 10: and that's the mobile quarterback. It's a big difference when
- 27:51Speaker 10: you have your back turned and that quarterback starts to
- 27:53Speaker 10: run versus when the entire team or you know, a
- 27:56Speaker 10: majority of the team has their eyes on the quarterback
- 27:59Speaker 10: on them already of STAPs where they can maybe react
- 28:01Speaker 10: and try to go and make some place in that
- 28:03Speaker 10: area too. So I think that's a couple of places
- 28:05Speaker 10: where you'll see some differences.
- 28:07Speaker 9: Last one, Rawson, we always do appreciate the time catching
- 28:10Speaker 9: up with Ross Jackson here on OTB. We've talked a
- 28:13Speaker 9: lot about so many different players, so many drafted guys
- 28:16Speaker 9: over the last couple of years, that we expect big
- 28:18Speaker 9: things on this team.
- 28:19Speaker 8: But I do.
- 28:20Speaker 9: Feel like a guy that still is not a part
- 28:22Speaker 9: of the conversation at least like on the airways sometimes
- 28:25Speaker 9: is kol a McKinstry and you traded you know for him,
- 28:28Speaker 9: Like there's the guy you moved up in the draft
- 28:30Speaker 9: for just a year ago. What is his role? How
- 28:34Speaker 9: impactful is he going to be? Because like with the
- 28:37Speaker 9: assets you use and anytime you seck somebody in the
- 28:39Speaker 9: second round, like that's got to be like a day
- 28:41Speaker 9: one starter. His rookie year was okay, But what should
- 28:45Speaker 9: we expect to see from kool Aid?
- 28:47Speaker 10: Yeah, I think you can expect good play from kool
- 28:50Speaker 10: Aid and continued improvement from where he was last year.
- 28:54Speaker 10: If you look at his season towards the end of
- 28:56Speaker 10: last year, it just got better and better and better.
- 28:58Speaker 10: Those last three games up against the I'm not going
- 29:02Speaker 10: to try to do that the last three games of
- 29:04Speaker 10: the year. You know, he was targeted over ten times
- 29:08Speaker 10: and allowed you know, fewer than I think it was
- 29:09Speaker 10: around five catches and things like that, and so you know,
- 29:12Speaker 10: you kind of saw his game kind of step into
- 29:14Speaker 10: the next next phase there, and he's looked out standing
- 29:17Speaker 10: in Mini camp as well as NNTA has been one
- 29:20Speaker 10: of the standout performers coming out of the off season programs,
- 29:24Speaker 10: and so I think he's going to be a guy
- 29:26Speaker 10: that's going to be tasked with oftentimes being sort of
- 29:28Speaker 10: the quote unquote cornerback one, which doesn't always mean that
- 29:32Speaker 10: he's going to be lined up across the best receiver
- 29:35Speaker 10: because they're going to move receivers in and out of
- 29:37Speaker 10: the slot things like that, so that'll kind of change
- 29:38Speaker 10: a little bit of what those coverage asignments are. But
- 29:41Speaker 10: I assume that he will be the number one guy
- 29:44Speaker 10: for this team at corner. He's been really disruptive at
- 29:46Speaker 10: the catch point. He's super sound fundamentally, which makes him
- 29:49Speaker 10: a coaches dream as well because he's not having to
- 29:52Speaker 10: rely on just raw talent. The raw talent adds to
- 29:56Speaker 10: what he does well from a foundational standpoint, and then
- 29:58Speaker 10: he can build upon that. So I think he'll continue
- 30:01Speaker 10: to get better, especially as there's more time for him
- 30:04Speaker 10: as well as when there's a pass rush introduced that
- 30:06Speaker 10: should help him out quite a bit too. And so
- 30:08Speaker 10: I think we've seen some good things for him, but
- 30:10Speaker 10: I think good thing like more are on the way.
- 30:12Speaker 10: When it comes to cool they begin trim really interested
- 30:15Speaker 10: and excited to see his twenty twenty five season.
- 30:18Speaker 9: All right, he's our guy, Ross Jackson, Louisiana Sports dot Net,
- 30:21Speaker 9: always putting out great articles on the New Orleans Saints
- 30:24Speaker 9: and keeping you.
- 30:25Speaker 8: Up to date.
- 30:26Speaker 7: Ross.
- 30:26Speaker 9: We appreciate the time as always, sir, look forward to
- 30:29Speaker 9: our next conversation.
- 30:30Speaker 10: Absolutely, guys, thanks so much. Appreciate you all, take care
- 30:32Speaker 10: of stay safe, and I'll talk to you all right again.
- 30:34Speaker 8: Ross Jackson.
- 30:35Speaker 9: Nobody nobody's locked in no pun intended because he hosted
- 30:40Speaker 9: Locked On Saints podcast, but always locked in, always ready
- 30:42Speaker 9: to go.
- 30:43Speaker 8: So appreciate his time.
- 30:44Speaker 4: I like it, Savenus of the defensive schemes too. Yeah,
- 30:46Speaker 4: it's gonna be fun to get into.
- 30:48Speaker 9: Yeah, he is like he is somebody that him and
- 30:51Speaker 9: Nick Underhill both like great assets for us to be
- 30:53Speaker 9: able to have here on OTV because they can actually
- 30:55Speaker 9: talk about some of the things that.
- 30:57Speaker 8: We can out that we want to talk about all times.
- 31:00Speaker 8: We'll start talking about them. We're like, hold up, wait
- 31:02Speaker 8: a minute, do they know what that is?
- 31:04Speaker 9: Those two guys certainly are gonna be able to have
- 31:07Speaker 9: those conversations. All right, we'll take a break to close
- 31:10Speaker 9: out today's show. I think we're going to call Alandra
- 31:14Speaker 9: and get her on the line, get an update on
- 31:17Speaker 9: UH on the road trip, see how things are going,
- 31:20Speaker 9: seeing if if they went the right direction, all those
- 31:22Speaker 9: type of things.
- 31:23Speaker 8: So we've got that coming up for you as well.
- 31:25Speaker 8: More OTB when we jump back here on one of four
- 31:27Speaker 8: five ESPN betters.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Off the bench.

- 32:01Speaker 8: probably go catch it.
- 32:01Speaker 3: Go catch it.
- 32:02Speaker 4: Yeah, old dad jokes.
- 32:05Speaker 9: When you turn forty h two two five three zero

- 32:27Speaker 4: five six two.
- 32:38Speaker 1: From the locker room to the airwaves. Gets off the
- 32:40Speaker 1: bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 32:45Speaker 8: Welcome back again. Oh t me h.
- 32:49Speaker 9: I got a little you know he did when I
- 32:53Speaker 9: saw the tight ends on this quarter century NFL team.
- 32:58Speaker 9: There's a couple of positions like linea linebacker, linebackers, tough.
- 33:03Speaker 8: No list is perfect. You're right about that.
- 33:06Speaker 9: Tony Gonzalez, Travis Kelce, and Rob Grinkowski. The tight ends.
- 33:11Speaker 9: Antonio Gates obviously a teammate of mind. So I'm gonna,
- 33:15Speaker 9: you know, be biasing the answer. But three time First
- 33:18Speaker 9: Team All Pro, most touchdowns ever by a tight end,
- 33:22Speaker 9: almost twelve thousand career receiving yards, almost a thousand career catches,
- 33:28Speaker 9: played sixteen NFL seasons for one team.
- 33:32Speaker 8: That's that's pretty telling as well.
- 33:33Speaker 4: I think you could probably agree with Gronk and Tony Gonzalez, right,
- 33:38Speaker 4: Gronk for sure.
- 33:39Speaker 8: For sure, Gronk for sure. I think Gronk might be
- 33:41Speaker 8: the best ever end.
- 33:43Speaker 9: I still have Gates a little bit ahead of Tony
- 33:45Speaker 9: Gonzalez when you put up their stats next to each other.
- 33:47Speaker 9: I just think it's a very close argument. I could
- 33:50Speaker 9: listen to either one. I think there's more things. There's
- 33:52Speaker 9: more routes that Gates could run. Tony certainly had a
- 33:56Speaker 9: couple of his repertoire that he ran at an elite level,
- 33:58Speaker 9: where I think Gates could he could do some receiver things.
- 34:02Speaker 4: When you on that list, like the guys you're talking
- 34:05Speaker 4: about Dates, Gronk, toninganz aalz Out even though Jason Whitten
- 34:09Speaker 4: that we talked about that they can they could translate
- 34:13Speaker 4: to any offense. Travis Kelcey's great in his own right,
- 34:19Speaker 4: but it's also kind of probably a product of that offense.
- 34:22Speaker 4: I don't know, but this is just our opinions up here.
- 34:24Speaker 4: He's probably probably he's not the best blocker in the world.
- 34:27Speaker 6: That's what saying, Like you have to define the tight
- 34:29Speaker 6: end position like Kelsey is essentially just a big receiver.
- 34:31Speaker 6: He's not a great blocker, Like if you want to
- 34:33Speaker 6: go tight end, like George kittles on much better all
- 34:36Speaker 6: around tight end.
- 34:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, we're we're looking at this list, we're
- 34:40Speaker 4: breaking it down. I'm choosing George Kittle over Travis Kelcey. Yes,
- 34:43Speaker 4: every day, all day. Dude's a freak.
- 34:48Speaker 8: George Kittle is the most complete in the NFL. He's
- 34:52Speaker 8: a mawler on the line.
- 34:55Speaker 4: He is.
- 34:56Speaker 8: He's not like a willing blocker like he's dude at it.
- 34:59Speaker 3: Ye. Yeah, he's fun to watch. He's electric.
- 35:01Speaker 4: He can he can beat you on a corner route
- 35:03Speaker 4: or a go route or a crossing route, whatever it is.
- 35:06Speaker 4: But it will also drive you in the dirt and
- 35:09Speaker 4: talk about it to let you know about it with
- 35:11Speaker 4: a smile on his face, which is pretty psychopathist in.
- 35:15Speaker 8: A good way.
- 35:15Speaker 4: But a lot of people in the chat talking out,
- 35:17Speaker 4: they're bringing up Jimmy Graham. Okay, Jimmy Graham in his
- 35:20Speaker 4: own right for sure, great for the Saints of Saints legend.
- 35:23Speaker 8: Yeah, he's a top ten guy.
- 35:26Speaker 4: Been fortunate enough to hang with Jimmy quite a bit
- 35:29Speaker 4: the last couple of years through our relationship. We weren't
- 35:33Speaker 4: so we didn't cross paths and we weren't teammates when
- 35:36Speaker 4: I was with the Saints for a little bit. He
- 35:37Speaker 4: came back after thatwks like never.
- 35:40Speaker 3: No ever, no, So yeah, we high five on the
- 35:45Speaker 3: way way in.
- 35:46Speaker 4: But I've got to know him the last couple of
- 35:48Speaker 4: years just from what we take a guys trip every
- 35:50Speaker 4: year with some some former players, and uh, it kind
- 35:53Speaker 4: of brought it up.
- 35:53Speaker 3: He is about to embark.
- 35:55Speaker 4: On like an incredible event, a credible journey, like if
- 35:59Speaker 4: y'all't know, like Jimmy Backstore. He is one of the
- 36:01Speaker 4: most like impressive humans, like Renaissance Man. He's a pilot,
- 36:06Speaker 4: he flies planes, jets, helicopters, he navigates weather, he's a cyclist.
- 36:11Speaker 4: He does all this crazy stuff. So he's a part
- 36:15Speaker 4: of what's called the the Arctic Challenge, where basically they're
- 36:19Speaker 4: gonna get on a canoe a team of four, unaccompanied
- 36:23Speaker 4: by any like safety vessels or anything like that, and
- 36:26Speaker 4: they're gonna just row across the Arctic Ocean what I
- 36:29Speaker 4: don't know if you've ever heard of that ocean.
- 36:32Speaker 7: So they're just gonna run dangerous.
- 36:33Speaker 4: Yeah, so it's all for a good calls like bringing
- 36:36Speaker 4: awareness of charity and like you know, challenging people to
- 36:40Speaker 4: push themselves, pushing their body.
- 36:42Speaker 3: But yeah, it's a team.
- 36:43Speaker 4: So it's Jimmy gram so X NFL player, Navy Seals
- 36:48Speaker 4: and rowers.
- 36:48Speaker 3: From like Team USA. So they've been training for like
- 36:52Speaker 3: a year.
- 36:53Speaker 4: I think they've done a lot of rowing and stuff
- 36:55Speaker 4: on on like poncha train. Yeah, so they're doing they're
- 36:59Speaker 4: doing all sorts of stuff. So you know, Jimmy Hops
- 37:01Speaker 4: is playing, you know, flies over and he's just a
- 37:04Speaker 4: it's an impressive dude, renaissance man, and like go look
- 37:07Speaker 4: it up, like go see like this, you could see
- 37:09Speaker 4: it online. The canoe that they're I call it a canoe,
- 37:11Speaker 4: that's not what it is, but it's a it's a
- 37:13Speaker 4: rowing boat machine.
- 37:14Speaker 8: Yeah. We didn't go to the Ivy League. We don't
- 37:16Speaker 8: know the term.
- 37:17Speaker 4: Yeah, so I think it's like there, it's like two
- 37:19Speaker 4: hours on, two hours off, two hours of rowing and
- 37:21Speaker 4: then you get two hours ago, like take a little rest,
- 37:23Speaker 4: take a nap.
- 37:23Speaker 3: Get it. They got like a little cabin. I don't
- 37:25Speaker 3: know how Jimmy's gonna fit in this thame.
- 37:27Speaker 4: He's a big human. But yeah, dude, it's really cool.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Go look it up. You see, like their sponsors, the
- 37:34Speaker 4: charity that it's supporting, and it's just a really cool
- 37:36Speaker 4: You'll be able to like track their journey throughout the
- 37:39Speaker 4: entire thing, and Jimmy's like the Jimmy's in charge of
- 37:42Speaker 4: navigating them or because because of him being a pilot,
- 37:45Speaker 4: he knows.
- 37:45Speaker 5: How to track weather, the pressures, the fronts and everything
- 37:48Speaker 5: like that.
- 37:49Speaker 4: So they're gonna have to like he's gonna be doing
- 37:51Speaker 4: like the weather making sure they're not like going into
- 37:52Speaker 4: a huge Arctic storm.
- 37:54Speaker 8: Right yeah, yeah, pretty well, Jimmy's not a meat head.
- 37:59Speaker 3: Oh no, definitely not.
- 38:02Speaker 9: Look and I'm not saying that, you know, meatheads can't
- 38:04Speaker 9: do things like that, but that feels like a step
- 38:07Speaker 9: above a meathead.
- 38:08Speaker 8: Uh you know.
- 38:09Speaker 9: Bobby Carpenter is a professor of finance at the Ohio
- 38:12Speaker 9: State University. But that feels like the ceiling for a meathead.
- 38:16Speaker 9: But when you're like leading into the ocean like this,
- 38:18Speaker 9: it feels like yeah.
- 38:20Speaker 3: Yeah, and like the you know, the safety of the
- 38:23Speaker 3: vessel and.
- 38:23Speaker 4: The crew kind of kind of depends on you know,
- 38:27Speaker 4: there's some weather up ahead, right, Well, yeah, so I
- 38:29Speaker 4: think it's a thousand kilometers, are going six hundred miles
- 38:32Speaker 4: something like that? What six hundred miles?
- 38:34Speaker 3: A believe? Yeah, it's artic Cohan, guys.
- 38:38Speaker 7: Six man, this is this is this is unbelievable.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Let's see.
- 38:42Speaker 4: The Arctic Challenge is a six hundred mile record setting
- 38:45Speaker 4: expedition across the Arctic Ocean led by diverse American crew,
- 38:49Speaker 4: rowing NonStop through freezing seas to test human limits, inspire
- 38:53Speaker 4: the next generation, and support youth driven causes.
- 38:57Speaker 3: How about that?
- 38:57Speaker 7: All right, I man, shout out, Jimmy, Jimmy Grant, get
- 39:00Speaker 7: it done.
- 39:00Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 39:01Speaker 7: I'll be watching from the warmth of my house.
- 39:04Speaker 9: So it's gonna be so yeah, Oh all right. We're
- 39:09Speaker 9: gonna step away for the final time this week. We
- 39:13Speaker 9: will check in with Alandra Rivers. They're on the road
- 39:16Speaker 9: right now, road tripping to Omaha. Gonna call Landra, get
- 39:21Speaker 9: kind of a behind the scenes how it's been so far.
- 39:24Speaker 9: Not sure how far they made it. We'll see if
- 39:26Speaker 9: they're heading to the right direction, making good time there
- 39:30Speaker 9: to Omaha. Will have that to close out today's Oh

- 40:55Speaker 7: I'm cooking man. You know I'm cooking, but you're cooking
- 41:00Speaker 7: cooking in the kitchen.
- 41:02Speaker 9: Yes, just because you turned forty. These dad jokes are
- 41:04Speaker 9: getting at and that's two.
- 41:06Speaker 8: All right, too many? All right, let's go now to
- 41:10Speaker 8: parts unknown.
- 41:12Speaker 9: Producer of our show, Elandra Blank Space Villa Reale Rivers Sue,
- 41:16Speaker 9: you own the road to Omaha?
- 41:18Speaker 8: How are we doing? How's the road trip so far?
- 41:21Speaker 8: Are we heading in the right direction?
- 41:24Speaker 2: I think we're headed in the right direction. It says north,
- 41:27Speaker 2: so that feels right. I'm not quite sure where we're at.
- 41:30Speaker 2: I think we just crossed over into Missouri.
- 41:33Speaker 8: All right, to show mistake, show me seven, I'll show
- 41:35Speaker 8: you eight.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Don't know what that means, and I'm going.
- 41:42Speaker 8: You remember how you felt?
- 41:43Speaker 9: You remember how you felt about Blue October? That's how
- 41:46Speaker 9: I feel right now?
- 41:47Speaker 2: Wait?
- 41:48Speaker 8: What did you?
- 41:49Speaker 4: Wait?
- 41:49Speaker 2: Okay, hold on, Rivers, do you know who Blue October is?
- 41:53Speaker 8: Right?
- 41:53Speaker 4: Wait's what I think? Hey?
- 41:55Speaker 10: Wait?
- 41:55Speaker 2: Hate me today?
- 41:58Speaker 10: Okay?
- 41:58Speaker 2: Anyways, alsome, I guess I'm the only one in this
- 42:02Speaker 2: world who knows who me and Matt Miscona know who
- 42:04Speaker 2: Blue October is?
- 42:07Speaker 9: All right, Well, how's it been like? How How is
- 42:10Speaker 9: the trip? That was a Nelly song by the way
- 42:12Speaker 9: that I was quoting there. How's the trip been so far?
- 42:15Speaker 9: Where did we stop? What time did we get back
- 42:18Speaker 9: up and start to drive again?
- 42:20Speaker 2: Yeah, so it was like nine hours of just being
- 42:23Speaker 2: locked in and driving. Yesterday we stopped maybe once or twice,
- 42:28Speaker 2: and then we stopped in Bentonville, Arkansas. Don't know if
- 42:31Speaker 2: you've heard.
- 42:31Speaker 8: Of it, but it's.
- 42:34Speaker 2: So Bentonville. And then we stopped there last night and
- 42:37Speaker 2: we just got back on the road like at nine.
- 42:41Speaker 2: So we're gonna stop in. I keep seeing Saint Louis,
- 42:44Speaker 2: but it's Kansas City.
- 42:47Speaker 9: Well there's two Kansas City's. I mean the Kansas side
- 42:49Speaker 9: the Missouri side. That does get confusing.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's Kansas Okay. Also, Matt, happy birthday, thank you.
- 42:57Speaker 2: But there's a place called Joe's Barbecue that we're going
- 43:02Speaker 2: to stop at, and Anthony Bourdain talked about it, so
- 43:05Speaker 2: I can see what that's about. Yeah, but about six
- 43:09Speaker 2: hours from Omaha right now, we're very excited.
- 43:13Speaker 4: So once you let's say you'll drive, you'll cross the
- 43:16Speaker 4: city limits in Omaha. What's the plan? What are you
- 43:19Speaker 4: What's what's on the agenda today? Once you get there,
- 43:21Speaker 4: what you're going to do.
- 43:23Speaker 2: So we're gonna do some bar hopping, for sure, go
- 43:25Speaker 2: check out all the that are popular in Omaha. We
- 43:30Speaker 2: just talked to Hunt. He went to a place called
- 43:33Speaker 2: Old Market last night, so we'll probably check that out. Obviously,
- 43:37Speaker 2: go to Roccos and add to the Deello shot competition,
- 43:42Speaker 2: and then we're gonna go to Blats as well, and
- 43:44Speaker 2: then take that Ryan Legee the memorial that he talked about.
- 43:49Speaker 9: We're gonna go to that awesome.
- 43:52Speaker 2: Apparently the guy gives you a beer to sip on
- 43:55Speaker 2: while you're shopping around, so it sounds like my place absolutely.
- 44:00Speaker 9: So one thing we always know about, like Omaha wants
- 44:03Speaker 9: LSU makes it to the Championship Series is thousands of
- 44:07Speaker 9: new LSU fans not new to LSU but new to
- 44:09Speaker 9: omahall make their way up there, kind of like y'all
- 44:12Speaker 9: are doing right now.
- 44:13Speaker 8: How many have we seen on the road?
- 44:15Speaker 9: Have we seen anybody with like LSU flags or anything
- 44:18Speaker 9: on the.
- 44:19Speaker 8: Way up there?
- 44:20Speaker 2: So I surprisingly have not seen like any LSU fans
- 44:24Speaker 2: or any sort of Louisiana even license plates. We did
- 44:29Speaker 2: stop at a gas station and I had an LSU
- 44:32Speaker 2: shirt on and this guy was like, I like that shirt,
- 44:35Speaker 2: So that counts for anything.
- 44:37Speaker 8: Absolutely hitting with the go Tigers.
- 44:40Speaker 2: I did. I was like, go Tigers.
- 44:42Speaker 8: There you go, well done, my best toe boys.
- 44:44Speaker 9: Well, that's the only way that you can do that
- 44:47Speaker 9: is rivers pulling for LSU or Coastal Carolina.
- 44:52Speaker 2: So she's been very neutral, but her nails are yellow. Okay,
- 44:58Speaker 2: so I feel like that's the is you cool?
- 45:01Speaker 8: You're well, they're not.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Tell here's the deal.
- 45:05Speaker 2: I have brought some purple and some gold to dabble
- 45:10Speaker 2: with while I'm on this trip.
- 45:13Speaker 4: You know that can't go full L s U.
- 45:15Speaker 8: All right, Well, fair enough, fair enough something.
- 45:19Speaker 2: Something I'm every day gonna get progressively more an L
- 45:23Speaker 2: s U fan as far as what I'm wearing.
- 45:25Speaker 3: All right, sounds like she's going L s U.
- 45:26Speaker 9: And two it sounds like she is going L s
- 45:28Speaker 9: U to sweep Coastal Carolina. Well, y'all be safe. We
- 45:31Speaker 9: got about ten seconds left. Y'all be safe, Cheer on
- 45:33Speaker 9: the Tigers safely, and uh have a lot of yellow shots.
- 45:39Speaker 10: All right?
- 45:40Speaker 8: Bye, all right, see y'all later, and we'll see you
- 45:42Speaker 8: later next.
- 45:44Speaker 9: Go into f and Tigers off the bench and go

- 45:57Speaker 3: The thing.
- 45:57Speaker 8: It's OK.
- 45:58Speaker 3: Absolutely it's not.
- 46:00Speaker 8: You know you can do it. No, you can do it.
- 46:04Speaker 8: I know the rules, dude.
- 46:06Speaker 3: Again.
