- 0:00Speaker 1: The Woody Show. Well, I want to bring our guests on.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I would say inn but not really in because they're
- 0:11Speaker 1: on the phone.
- 0:14Speaker 2: He is our.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Very favorite soon to be retired news anchor. Yeah, the
- 0:23Speaker 1: announcement was just made here recently, Ladies and gentlemen, the
- 0:28Speaker 1: Jim Donovan.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Jay, Hey guys from you, Hey, oh.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Man, congratulations first and foremost. I know we were just
- 0:37Speaker 1: doing like a little bit of texting, but dude, I
- 0:39Speaker 1: feel you. I mean, after however many years of that
- 0:43Speaker 1: super dark outside still alarm clock jeez.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Yeah decade at two am. The alarm goes off at
- 0:51Speaker 2: two AM. I go to bed at six. I'm like
- 0:53Speaker 2: in a nursing home without Jello.
- 0:57Speaker 3: You're not going to miss it at all, Jim, No,
- 1:01Speaker 3: not at all.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Not. I'm running to the door with a smile on
- 1:04Speaker 2: my face. Come good luck, everybody.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we we. We learned about Jim a number
- 1:10Speaker 1: of years ago just from the clips that were online
- 1:13Speaker 1: of covering different news tours. Like, dude, this guy's hilarious.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Like we just we just loved your your energy, your personality,
- 1:18Speaker 1: your delivery. Yeah, just the the persona and uh and
- 1:22Speaker 1: then we would have Jim on the air and just
- 1:24Speaker 1: kind of giving us his takes on different news tours
- 1:26Speaker 1: and that's just how he got our attention. But he is, uh,
- 1:31Speaker 1: just a just a just a really good guy. And
- 1:33Speaker 1: I'm always excited for someone to see, uh, to see
- 1:35Speaker 1: somebody do things on their on their own terms. Man.
- 1:38Speaker 1: So that's that's great.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I am very fortunate because you know, the way this
- 1:42Speaker 2: business choose people up and spits them out. I mean,
- 1:44Speaker 2: I've had twenty two years here in Philly. Yeah, thirty
- 1:47Speaker 2: nine year career. I've always been employed, and I've always
- 1:51Speaker 2: made my choices, and you know, it's just the time
- 1:54Speaker 2: is right now. I mean for me to just you know,
- 1:57Speaker 2: step back. I mean a lot of it has to do,
- 2:00Speaker 2: quite honestly, with the schedule. I mean it's I try
- 2:02Speaker 2: to normalize it as much as I can and convince
- 2:05Speaker 2: myself that this is fine. But every time I do
- 2:08Speaker 2: a story that says, you know, lack of sleep's going
- 2:11Speaker 2: to kill your're going, I look at my co anchor
- 2:15Speaker 2: and I'm like, you know, we got to get out
- 2:16Speaker 2: of here. We go? Yeah yeah, I.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Mean, Jim, you are a treasure.
- 2:21Speaker 4: They did they try to like sweet talking, Hey man,
- 2:23Speaker 4: I'll give you the evening or the afternoon slot instead
- 2:25Speaker 4: of retiring because we need you here at CBS three.
- 2:28Speaker 2: No, I mean they were very nice. So this date,
- 2:31Speaker 2: believe it or not, So my official date last day
- 2:34Speaker 2: on air is December nineteenth, but my official date that
- 2:38Speaker 2: I leave the company is January fifth, coming up, twenty
- 2:42Speaker 2: twenty sixth And in two thousand and eight I wrote
- 2:45Speaker 2: that down on a post it note. Who really on
- 2:49Speaker 2: my death? It was during the recession, one of those
- 2:52Speaker 2: days where the stock market was crashing and our four
- 2:54Speaker 2: own caves were bleeding money, and I remember having my
- 2:57Speaker 2: head down on my desk and one of my colleagues
- 2:59Speaker 2: walked by, you're not getting pulling your money out of
- 3:02Speaker 2: your four ow and k I said, leave me alone
- 3:04Speaker 2: in my misery, and I thought, I need a date.
- 3:06Speaker 2: I need a date to kind of focus on. And
- 3:10Speaker 2: then each contract that I signed just gets me closer
- 3:12Speaker 2: and closer to that date. So my date is January fifth,
- 3:16Speaker 2: twenty six So that I wrote down way back in
- 3:19Speaker 2: two thousand and eight.
- 3:20Speaker 1: So Jim like, how old are you now?
- 3:22Speaker 2: Fifty nine?
- 3:23Speaker 1: Fifty nine? All right, So Sea Best, what were you
- 3:25Speaker 1: talking about? Because Sea Bess mentioned.
- 3:26Speaker 4: This, there's there's a principle that's been floating around called
- 3:31Speaker 4: financial independence retire early, meaning that you you really really
- 3:34Speaker 4: buckle down the first you know, let's say ten fifteen
- 3:38Speaker 4: years or so of.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Your career, financial independence, retire of fire, so you fire
- 3:43Speaker 1: people yourself right now.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Jim has clearly pulled that off to retire at the
- 3:48Speaker 4: age of thirty nine.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Well I will tell you now, if I were in
- 3:53Speaker 2: my forties, that's the fire people Mine is all about
- 3:56Speaker 2: fifty nine and a half. You can get into your
- 3:57Speaker 2: four what k.
- 4:00Speaker 1: That's like? What kind of advice? Because I think that
- 4:03Speaker 1: is the dream first of all, the dream I think
- 4:05Speaker 1: for a lot of people is just to be able
- 4:07Speaker 1: to retire at some point right now, to retire earlier,
- 4:11Speaker 1: just to you know what, what advice? What advice would
- 4:14Speaker 1: you have for people who are listening who want to
- 4:16Speaker 1: do what you're doing, because not married, no kids, I
- 4:19Speaker 1: would assume like would be number one and number two
- 4:21Speaker 1: right yeah, so.
- 4:22Speaker 2: That's the easiest thing with me. But I mean, just
- 4:25Speaker 2: take advantage, take advantage of whatever your company offers, yes,
- 4:29Speaker 2: because I mean there's so many different things before when
- 4:32Speaker 2: came matches, they have health savings, plans, flexible spending accounts,
- 4:37Speaker 2: whatever they offer you that can possibly allow you to
- 4:41Speaker 2: scroll money away for longer periods of time. And you know,
- 4:45Speaker 2: every time you get a raised, then put extra money
- 4:48Speaker 2: in there, even if it's ten. I started years ago
- 4:51Speaker 2: when I worked at a network job in New York.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I wasn't particularly happy where I was, and I remember
- 4:56Speaker 2: just thinking, you know, I've got to figure out some
- 4:59Speaker 2: way out of here. One of my friends that was
- 5:01Speaker 2: a manager, said, just put money. Start putting money twenty
- 5:05Speaker 2: bucks a paycheck in a side account. And she said,
- 5:09Speaker 2: as that thing grows, you're gonna feel less and less
- 5:12Speaker 2: stressed because you're not going to have the pressure of
- 5:15Speaker 2: thinking I don't have enough money to even make it
- 5:16Speaker 2: through the next two weeks. And I started doing that,
- 5:19Speaker 2: and I mean within six months. The boss that I
- 5:22Speaker 2: was working for that used to drive me crazy. He
- 5:24Speaker 2: didn't bother me anymore because I thought, well, now at
- 5:27Speaker 2: least I have a little bit of a gap. Also,
- 5:29Speaker 2: I don't spend a lot of money. I drive a
- 5:31Speaker 2: fifteen year old car, you know, and I'll probably do something. Look,
- 5:35Speaker 2: I'm retiring from television and broadcasting, but I'm not retiring
- 5:39Speaker 2: from life. I mean, I'll do other things, not necessarily
- 5:42Speaker 2: for a paycheck, but I'm sure I'll volunteer for some
- 5:45Speaker 2: nonprofits and do other things.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes you're gonna you're gonna stumble into something else
- 5:49Speaker 1: that not paying what you make now or whatever. But
- 5:52Speaker 1: there'll be something coming to you.
- 5:54Speaker 5: Be busy.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Yeahah, you're another third chapter. I mean, but before I
- 5:57Speaker 2: was in TV full time, I was worked for an
- 5:59Speaker 2: airline that one. Yeah, can you imagine God from just
- 6:03Speaker 2: from that? And that was several years.
- 6:06Speaker 1: For People's Airlines, if I'm remembering correctly.
- 6:09Speaker 2: People Expressed people That's right, That's right. Yeah, and then
- 6:13Speaker 2: it became Conmental and then became United, which is now United. Yeah.
- 6:17Speaker 1: People's Express was the airline that my uh, you know,
- 6:20Speaker 1: my parents were divorced when I was very young, and
- 6:22Speaker 1: you know, I grew up just outside of Philadelphia, and
- 6:25Speaker 1: then my dad and the rest of the family was
- 6:27Speaker 1: in Pittsburgh, and so my mom had put me on
- 6:29Speaker 1: a plane by myself at a very young age to
- 6:31Speaker 1: fly to go see my dad in Pittsburgh. Uh and uh,
- 6:35Speaker 1: and it was People's Express. Was, yeah, you'd.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Pay on the plane, You'd pay on the plane.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Well, I think my mom handed me before I got
- 6:41Speaker 1: on the plane.
- 6:41Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah.
- 6:43Speaker 1: On that Jim could have been one of the attendants
- 6:46Speaker 1: making sure that I got to my dad. On the
- 6:48Speaker 1: other end, we don't, we don't. So we're talking to
- 6:51Speaker 1: Jim down, our favorite soon to be retired news anchor
- 6:56Speaker 1: in America. Again. We we just we just loved him.
- 6:58Speaker 1: But we're we're very we're very happy for you. Yeah.
- 7:02Speaker 1: So this this car, that that that you've been driving
- 7:05Speaker 1: for the last fifteen years, I mean, are you still
- 7:07Speaker 1: gonna drive it? Are you gonna get yourself a retirement vehicle?
- 7:09Speaker 1: And also my follow up question, what do you think
- 7:11Speaker 1: about the cyber truck?
- 7:12Speaker 2: Oh?
- 7:13Speaker 1: God, no, you just can't handle Why do you say
- 7:17Speaker 1: no like that? I agree with you. I think it's it's.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Ugly, ugly car. I just it looks like some kind
- 7:24Speaker 2: of space thing. And people, you know between California, who's
- 7:28Speaker 2: driving around South Jersey with that thing right.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Himself? We think we think it's like competating for something. Ye,
- 7:38Speaker 1: it's definitely like one of those look at me purchases.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, that wouldn't be the top of my
- 7:45Speaker 2: list for a new vehicle. But no, I'm driving my
- 7:47Speaker 2: thing into it. It's transportation gets me from point A
- 7:49Speaker 2: to point B. And besides, in Philadelphia, everyone nicks your car,
- 7:53Speaker 2: scratches your car, keys your car.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Yeah I'm not doing that all right? So, uh, what
- 7:58Speaker 1: is the TV station done for you for this retirement?
- 8:01Speaker 1: Are they planning like some kind of big like some
- 8:04Speaker 1: going away not on the air on the air. I'm
- 8:06Speaker 1: sure they're gonna do something. I mean like behind the scenes,
- 8:08Speaker 1: like we're it really matters. Are they gonna do anything
- 8:10Speaker 1: to get a watch? Like what do you get on
- 8:11Speaker 1: the way out after that that long service?
- 8:14Speaker 2: I don't know. I did get an Apple watch when
- 8:17Speaker 2: I hit twenty years.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Oh nice.
- 8:18Speaker 2: So I don't know what they're giving me. I mean,
- 8:21Speaker 2: if they're organizing something, I know on TV they're throwing
- 8:24Speaker 2: this thing, the Five Days of Jim. I'm like, I
- 8:26Speaker 2: don't know what this is. If I gonna pull old
- 8:29Speaker 2: videotapes like when they tried to kill me with the
- 8:31Speaker 2: Hot Chip challenge and stuff like that, yeah, I'm the
- 8:36Speaker 2: only thing. We'll do it. I'm the only way they
- 8:38Speaker 2: tell me things that hey, we're thinking about doing such
- 8:41Speaker 2: and such, which you do I'm like you, I'll do
- 8:43Speaker 2: it if it's good. TV Morning TV. I'll do it.
- 8:47Speaker 2: I mean it's like you know, he always has and
- 8:49Speaker 2: most other anchors won't.
- 8:50Speaker 1: He always has like special thing he brings in ice
- 8:52Speaker 1: cream every week. Jim. Jim is always known for his
- 8:55Speaker 1: fun socks that he wears. He posts on social media.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Oh, that's the one bucket list thing. That's the one
- 9:00Speaker 2: we're trying to get Guinness to certify. So right now,
- 9:03Speaker 2: I have a little over fifteen hundred pairs of socks,
- 9:06Speaker 2: which is the current world record. I get the record's
- 9:09Speaker 2: like eleven hundred or so, some way ahead of them,
- 9:12Speaker 2: so believe it or not, after thirty nine years in TV,
- 9:15Speaker 2: that's the only thing left on the bucket list is
- 9:17Speaker 2: to get them to certify as the world's largest collections
- 9:21Speaker 2: of socks.
- 9:22Speaker 1: He wears this this Eagle suit after the Eagles victory.
- 9:26Speaker 1: You're known for so many things, Jim.
- 9:28Speaker 3: I am concerned though, Who's going to make the waffles
- 9:30Speaker 3: when it rains?
- 9:31Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, the waffles when it comes to blizzards and stuff.
- 9:35Speaker 2: I mean, I could leave my waffle maker behind, but
- 9:37Speaker 2: they're too busy because he's out of way to be
- 9:40Speaker 2: able to make stuff.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Looks Also, these stations they keep firing more and more people,
- 9:43Speaker 1: and then the other people have to pick up the
- 9:45Speaker 1: slackers out. They're hiring people to replace these people. It's
- 9:47Speaker 1: like it's just downsizing and downsizing.
- 9:50Speaker 2: But now everything's going to AI and virtual. So that's
- 9:53Speaker 2: the I was trying to get out before they put
- 9:55Speaker 2: me in our virtual studio because it would give me
- 9:57Speaker 2: a headache. I tried it a few times of like,
- 10:00Speaker 2: this is not right. Need to I need an old
- 10:02Speaker 2: fashioned desk in the computer I can't get here. So
- 10:05Speaker 2: but they've again, they've been just absolutely great to I mean,
- 10:08Speaker 2: I have a good run, especially in Philadelphia. This town
- 10:10Speaker 2: is the best news town. They they're crazy. People here
- 10:14Speaker 2: are crazy, but you know they're crazy about the sports
- 10:17Speaker 2: and their cheese, steaks and everything else.
- 10:19Speaker 1: But I just love them.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I would never have thought I would have had an
- 10:22Speaker 2: amazing twenty two year run here, but they welcome me
- 10:25Speaker 2: into their homes and I've just been just blessed from
- 10:28Speaker 2: the day I've moved here.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Well, they've been lucky to have you. We we love you,
- 10:32Speaker 1: and we're super happy and excited for you. And what
- 10:37Speaker 1: in fact, can you hang on for like just one
- 10:39Speaker 1: more second, because there are two there are two news
- 10:42Speaker 1: stories that I want to get your opinion. This is
- 10:44Speaker 1: like a good way to go out right.
- 10:46Speaker 2: And by the way, and.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Even after you're retired, like you're not gonna have much
- 10:49Speaker 1: to do. I mean, so can we can we call
- 10:51Speaker 1: you from time to time and just kind of check in.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Oh definitely. And now I'm going to be able to
- 10:54Speaker 2: listen to you all the time as opposed to just
- 10:56Speaker 2: the days that I have off.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Right, you're going to be dying to talk about the news,
- 10:59Speaker 1: I'm sure. Oh yeah, you come in all right, Jim
- 11:03Speaker 1: Donovan from CBS Television.
- 11:04Speaker 6: In Philadelphia announcing his his impending retirement and just for
- 11:09Speaker 6: old times stake, when we come back, we're gonna get
- 11:11Speaker 6: Jim's opinion on a couple of these stories that are
- 11:13Speaker 6: in the news that'll be next here on the Woody Show.
- 11:16Speaker 5: Hang on, I'm gonna say.
- 11:21Speaker 1: The Woody Show, The Woody Show. All right, So we
- 11:29Speaker 1: got Jim Donovan who's still on the phone with us.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Thank you for for hanging with and thank you for
- 11:34Speaker 1: agreeing to call. I'm sure your pr schedule after the
- 11:38Speaker 1: retiring announcement. It's just been just insane.
- 11:41Speaker 2: It's been funny. It's been funny reading the articles and
- 11:44Speaker 2: work they're using. I'm just kind of like, that's sure
- 11:47Speaker 2: they have the right people here. I watched, Yeah, it's
- 11:50Speaker 2: been very nice.
- 11:51Speaker 5: I watched the announcement Jim that you gave that you
- 11:53Speaker 5: were going to retire, and you weren't overly emotional.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Your co anchor was very because Jim very Jim's out.
- 12:01Speaker 7: Jim.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Now. My voice cracked at one point because I saw
- 12:05Speaker 2: her off the corner of my eye and I told
- 12:07Speaker 2: her before we were going back on air, I said,
- 12:09Speaker 2: please please hold it together because I can't get and
- 12:14Speaker 2: I saw her off the credit because I just adore her.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Janelle is like the best partner that I've had, you know,
- 12:20Speaker 2: at that desk, and you know, it's like a ballroom dancing.
- 12:23Speaker 2: The two of you need to dance at the same time,
- 12:25Speaker 2: the same speed. So I mean, she's been a great partner.
- 12:27Speaker 2: But yeah, I was trying to hold it together because
- 12:29Speaker 2: I thought, Okay, just get through this sonoument quickly.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Jim donov is our favorite news anchor in America and uh,
- 12:36Speaker 1: we've we've been aware of him for for many years,
- 12:38Speaker 1: have him on the show to talk about different news stories,
- 12:40Speaker 1: which I'm gonna do here in in in just one
- 12:44Speaker 1: moment and there there. Like I said, there are a
- 12:46Speaker 1: couple a couple of news stories that we want to
- 12:48Speaker 1: get your opinion. But if you want to give some well,
- 12:50Speaker 1: which is just follow Jim on social media and you
- 12:54Speaker 1: can find him. We obvious see him on on Instagram.
- 12:57Speaker 1: He's uh, he's always there and posting his posting his videos.
- 13:01Speaker 1: And you can see the socks every day. Yeah, the
- 13:03Speaker 1: socks and the ice cream I've in fact I learned
- 13:06Speaker 1: about it. There are a couple of different ice creams
- 13:08Speaker 1: that I didn't even realize were a thing. Oh and
- 13:11Speaker 1: then it wasn't until Jim Donovan posted about it.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Yeah, ice cream Tuesday, very important ice cream Tuesdays.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Let me ask you the typical question. I mean, you've
- 13:20Speaker 1: covered a lot of things, a lot of things have
- 13:22Speaker 1: happened in the course of your career. What do you
- 13:24Speaker 1: think is the thing that you will never forget, Like
- 13:26Speaker 1: the one thing, the one moment you know, was it
- 13:28Speaker 1: a news event, was something that happened in the studio.
- 13:31Speaker 2: There are three big stories. One obviously nine to eleven
- 13:34Speaker 2: because I'm from New York and I covered that for
- 13:37Speaker 2: several weeks, went back to New York. Number two is
- 13:40Speaker 2: the Pope visited Philadelphia and that's when I was moved
- 13:43Speaker 2: over to the anchor desk. So that was my first
- 13:46Speaker 2: anchoring experience because before that I was the consumer guy.
- 13:48Speaker 2: And then I happened to be in England when the
- 13:51Speaker 2: Queen died and they left me in London for ten days.
- 13:55Speaker 1: That's right, I remember that.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, And I got on television using an iPad
- 14:00Speaker 2: that I nicknamed Izzy. It was logically very difficult, and
- 14:04Speaker 2: I near my head nearly exploded every day, but it
- 14:06Speaker 2: was an amazing experience. Yeah.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I mean you've seen him, been party to a lot
- 14:11Speaker 1: of cool things in that time. All right, Jim Donovan
- 14:13Speaker 1: on the news, Here we go, welcome back. I heated
- 14:17Speaker 1: up the syrup and like a fond thing.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Listen, I'm petrified of deer ticks. We've got to eat here, people,
- 14:23Speaker 2: because there's a store.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Okay, Well, the first story, and it's been one that
- 14:30Speaker 1: we've been coming back to a couple of times. I
- 14:32Speaker 1: thought of you, actually, because I remember the video that
- 14:35Speaker 1: you posted on your social media. Remember when you got
- 14:39Speaker 1: chased down by the bees at home?
- 14:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and I jumped in the pool jumped in
- 14:42Speaker 2: the pool.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Yeah, you jumped in the pool. Now, I had heard
- 14:46Speaker 1: that you're not supposed to do that. It's really not
- 14:47Speaker 1: the way to get away from the bees, Like, you're
- 14:49Speaker 1: not supposed to get they'll wait for you.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Yeah, they'll be hovering and they'll wait above the water.
- 14:53Speaker 2: They'll cover above the water.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 2: I didn't know that at the time.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Yeah, but you do what you gotta do, all right.
- 15:00Speaker 1: So the story about how those monkeys got loose, right, Like,
- 15:03Speaker 1: we've been talking about this for you know, a while now. Yeah, now, Jim,
- 15:08Speaker 1: would that be something that would make you nervous if
- 15:11Speaker 1: there were like these monkeys on the loose in the
- 15:13Speaker 1: town in which you live. Is that something that you
- 15:15Speaker 1: would be nervous about or just you would just think
- 15:18Speaker 1: is more kind of fun?
- 15:19Speaker 2: Oh? No, that would be I mean I live out
- 15:21Speaker 2: in the woods. I have skunks and deer and coyote
- 15:24Speaker 2: around here, some monkeys. And they were old monkeys, weren't
- 15:26Speaker 2: they They were old so they couldn't move very fast.
- 15:29Speaker 2: They're like me. They were a pre retirement.
- 15:31Speaker 3: You wouldn't be afraid though, face to face with the
- 15:35Speaker 3: monkey in the woods.
- 15:36Speaker 2: No, I'm afraid of mice. But I'm not monkeys, don't.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Afraid Are you afraid of Are you afraid of bugs? No?
- 15:45Speaker 6: No?
- 15:45Speaker 1: Okay, Greg, Yeah, I can't Greg Greg here on our show.
- 15:48Speaker 1: He's very afraid about it. In fact, he's he's afraid
- 15:50Speaker 1: of butterflies, every bug, you name it, I hate it. Yeah,
- 15:54Speaker 1: but is that weird? Butterfly?
- 15:56Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 15:56Speaker 2: Butterflies therapist for them?
- 15:59Speaker 1: I should bugs. Yeah, he's afraid of all of them,
- 16:02Speaker 1: all right. So the next story that we have here
- 16:04Speaker 1: for Jim is this guy. His son had posted about
- 16:09Speaker 1: this and they got picked up on the news. He
- 16:11Speaker 1: says his dad was done dirty by Home Depot. His
- 16:14Speaker 1: dad had been working there for twenty seven years, decided
- 16:16Speaker 1: it was time to hang up the old orange apron
- 16:19Speaker 1: and retire. Now did he get a party, No? Did
- 16:22Speaker 1: he get a plaque? No, any kind of recognition, none
- 16:25Speaker 1: at all. The only thing he got from the store
- 16:28Speaker 1: he got to go home early, I guess that day,
- 16:31Speaker 1: and he was given a Snickers by one other employee
- 16:34Speaker 1: and then some oreos by a different employee who were
- 16:37Speaker 1: just trying to make his last day feel special. And
- 16:40Speaker 1: so people are now blasting Home Depot saying that they
- 16:43Speaker 1: didn't even do the bare minimum, and they need to
- 16:46Speaker 1: treat their employees with more respect. Now, let's just say
- 16:50Speaker 1: you were in this situation there at CBS Television in Philadelphia,
- 16:54Speaker 1: and all they did was say that you can go
- 16:56Speaker 1: home early, and then your coworkers gave you like a
- 16:58Speaker 1: Snickers and a pack of Oreos. Would you care?
- 17:03Speaker 6: Not?
- 17:03Speaker 1: Really the same thought. I'm like, God, who cares. I'm
- 17:08Speaker 1: so dumb at this place. I don't need a big Yeah.
- 17:12Speaker 2: I think people put a lot of put a lot
- 17:15Speaker 2: of stuff into you know what the expectation is and party.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I mean, I've already told them listen, I'm not really
- 17:20Speaker 2: big into parties. If it makes them happy, then that's fine.
- 17:25Speaker 2: But I don't need and I don't need any more stuff.
- 17:27Speaker 2: I've got more stuff in my life, like trinkets and stuff,
- 17:30Speaker 2: and I'm like, what am I gonna do with all
- 17:32Speaker 2: this crap? So no, I'd rather if they could let
- 17:34Speaker 2: me go a few hours earlier. I'd be like, Okay,
- 17:37Speaker 2: thank you very much.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I felt the same way because people are like really
- 17:43Speaker 1: on home depot about this. I'm like, first of all,
- 17:45Speaker 1: like you're retiring from home depot, Like you didn't start
- 17:48Speaker 1: the company. You didn't like like you worked there. That's fine.
- 17:50Speaker 1: You had a good job you apparently enjoyed. You were
- 17:52Speaker 1: there for twenty seven years, or you stuck it out
- 17:54Speaker 1: for twenty seven years. Either way, like you've decided that
- 17:57Speaker 1: you're done and you're moving on.
- 17:58Speaker 8: I mean, do you at least get a bucket?
- 18:02Speaker 1: I don't. I don't. Yeah, yeah, so, Jim, I mean,
- 18:08Speaker 1: you know, for a guy not married, no kids, I'm
- 18:10Speaker 1: assuming you're alread kind of living in the house. Typically
- 18:12Speaker 1: people in that stage would maybe downsize. But you've spent
- 18:15Speaker 1: so much time with this house and doing all the remodeling.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Are you just going to stick stick where you are?
- 18:19Speaker 1: Are you going to relocate for retirement?
- 18:20Speaker 2: What are you doing at this point? Not sure chances
- 18:23Speaker 2: are going to relocate after I want to enjoy the house.
- 18:26Speaker 2: I mean literally, I've been renovating this thing for seven years. Yeah. Right,
- 18:29Speaker 2: So it's a big stone house that just needs a
- 18:32Speaker 2: lot of work. But I don't need that much space.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Two bedroom too bad condos somewhere.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Yeah, still somewhere like in the northeaster. I think maybe
- 18:40Speaker 1: you'll do what to most people in the Northeast do
- 18:42Speaker 1: and just flock to Florida, Florida.
- 18:44Speaker 2: I've actually looked at Florida, so I am poventually considering
- 18:47Speaker 2: Florida a certain area in Florida, so looking at it,
- 18:50Speaker 2: just not sure.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Yeah, well, Jim, we're again. We're super happy for you
- 18:54Speaker 1: and we appreciate you taking some time to talk with us. Again.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Just just just congratulate, listens, and.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Enjoy the last I appreciate it the.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Last handful of time. I mean, I fantasize about that day.
- 19:07Speaker 1: You know where the alarm clock doesn't.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Go to post it note? Ye, write it down on
- 19:10Speaker 2: a post it note and leave it up to the universe.
- 19:12Speaker 2: I believe that if you manifest things. I mean I've
- 19:16Speaker 2: every time that I've ever written something down on a
- 19:18Speaker 2: post it note and just stick it on my desk
- 19:20Speaker 2: in my office at home, I'm just like, Okay, I
- 19:23Speaker 2: need the universe to handle this and it gets taken
- 19:25Speaker 2: care of. I don't know whether I'm just naive and
- 19:28Speaker 2: it was going to happen anyway, but I mean it's
- 19:30Speaker 2: like if I think, if people just focus on the
- 19:33Speaker 2: positive and just keep moving forward and let the negative
- 19:35Speaker 2: stuff drop, good things happen, and I mean everyone leaves.
- 19:39Speaker 2: I've never seen an unhappy retired news anchor before. Guys.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I mean my plan is, like you said, write it
- 19:44Speaker 1: down on a post it note, but I have I
- 19:46Speaker 1: have with this out there. I mean even even the
- 19:48Speaker 1: company that I work for knows this is Like I'm
- 19:50Speaker 1: willing to commit to this schedule like where you know
- 19:53Speaker 1: you're talking about like your alarm clock going off at
- 19:54Speaker 1: two o'clock in the morning. Same, right, I'm going to
- 19:57Speaker 1: commit to that until my kids get out of high school.
- 19:59Speaker 1: And right now, my daughter's in seventh grade, so do
- 20:02Speaker 1: the math, you know, and then after that, like uh,
- 20:07Speaker 1: you know, I'm forty nine now, so that that's that's
- 20:10Speaker 1: also good timing. But then uh, not that I wouldn't
- 20:14Speaker 1: want to do something because I think I met be
- 20:16Speaker 1: a little bored, you'd get. But I'm definitely not going
- 20:19Speaker 1: to be doing it at these hours. So that's my
- 20:22Speaker 1: that's want. That's my post that.
- 20:24Speaker 2: You want to work to live, not live to work.
- 20:26Speaker 2: You want to work to put a roof over your head,
- 20:28Speaker 2: send your kids to school, clothes on the back, food
- 20:31Speaker 2: and the table of vacation in return.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Yeah, my thing is I just want the kids to go. Yeah,
- 20:35Speaker 1: I just want my I just want my kids to
- 20:36Speaker 1: go through uh through high school, get through high school,
- 20:39Speaker 1: living in the same house with the same friends like
- 20:42Speaker 1: I cause I didn't have that and so that that's
- 20:44Speaker 1: why it's important to me. But yeah, hey, if they
- 20:46Speaker 1: fire me tomorrow, kids are still going to finish out
- 20:48Speaker 1: high school where they're at right now and uh and
- 20:51Speaker 1: we'll figure it out. But Jim again, congratulations, we love
- 20:54Speaker 1: you man.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Theake some you appreciate, guys, and keeping touch your my
- 20:57Speaker 2: favorite radio folks, and I just enjoy stating with you
- 21:00Speaker 2: over the past few years. I call you my radio friends.
- 21:04Speaker 2: I hope you don't mind. It's not like I'm said.
- 21:06Speaker 2: I'm not stalker like, but yeah, we love it. Keep
- 21:09Speaker 2: in touch. Follow the social media. I'm going to continue
- 21:11Speaker 2: to post things on there. Yeah, we do our little
- 21:13Speaker 2: Facebook stuff and those people get a little crazy when
- 21:16Speaker 2: they found worry they'll post. I'll still do some stuff.
- 21:21Speaker 2: So but happy holidays to everybody.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Out Jim, I love you. Yeah, Happy holidays, and enjoy
- 21:26Speaker 1: your last handful of days there at the CBS TV
- 21:29Speaker 1: in Philly. Jim Donovan, everybody, maybe back to the Woodie
- 21:32Speaker 1: Show and we have a game that we're going to
- 21:37Speaker 1: play here, this is a Menace out And about where'd
- 21:42Speaker 1: you go? You went to a I went to a
- 21:43Speaker 1: flea market, a flea market. What's the difference between a
- 21:46Speaker 1: flea market and a swap Okay.
- 21:48Speaker 3: So flea market will have new and old goods and
- 21:51Speaker 3: people just like purchased things with money.
- 21:54Speaker 8: Now is swap meet?
- 21:57Speaker 3: People are like supposed to like trade goods, but that
- 22:00Speaker 3: doesn't really happen.
- 22:01Speaker 1: I was going to say, is that how? I mean?
- 22:02Speaker 3: Maybe and swap meets are supposed to be on a
- 22:06Speaker 3: smaller scale, but I see swap meets just as big
- 22:09Speaker 3: as flea markets.
- 22:10Speaker 8: So I don't know, I don't know, And swap would
- 22:12Speaker 8: be where.
- 22:12Speaker 4: I'd find most of my like a knockoff stolen merchandise.
- 22:16Speaker 1: That I don't know.
- 22:18Speaker 8: You're still find that a flea market?
- 22:19Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, a little bit, yeah, a little bit both. Yeah,
- 22:21Speaker 3: that's whatever they want to call it these days.
- 22:23Speaker 1: All Right, So this is how much is that old
- 22:27Speaker 1: crab trademark original game from Menace? He came up with it?
- 22:30Speaker 8: This is, you know, a Menace original original game.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:34Speaker 3: So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to ask
- 22:36Speaker 3: people that are selling items how much is that old crab.
- 22:39Speaker 3: But before we get the answer, I'm going to ask
- 22:41Speaker 3: the room how much they think it costs?
- 22:44Speaker 1: All right, I like that idea. It's a really good thing.
- 22:47Speaker 1: We could build on that.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Hear their answer, that's right, right, right, So all right,
- 22:52Speaker 3: here's the first item. Okay, I see they sell a
- 22:55Speaker 3: lot of vintage Coca Cola products here.
- 22:58Speaker 8: Yes, how long you've been doing this for over fifteen years?
- 23:01Speaker 8: Fifteen years now? I got my eye on this cook
- 23:04Speaker 8: machine here. Can you tell me about it?
- 23:05Speaker 9: Yes, it's I think it's from the fifties. Everything's in there.
- 23:08Speaker 9: It just needs to be restored in good condition. They're
- 23:11Speaker 9: like five thousand bucks. It's really nice. It's complete.
- 23:14Speaker 8: How much are you selling this old crap form? This
- 23:17Speaker 8: is one of those like big old time.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Fifties.
- 23:22Speaker 4: Definitely takes coins. Of course. It has has the bottle
- 23:26Speaker 4: opener built in. Yeah, back to the future.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's cool. It'd be cool to have like on
- 23:30Speaker 1: your back porch, you know, if you had like a
- 23:32Speaker 1: big outdoor entertaining area poolside.
- 23:35Speaker 5: An outdoor kitchen.
- 23:37Speaker 3: I don't even use this, don't you Just look at
- 23:38Speaker 3: it on a cracker barrel or something, you know, Yeah,
- 23:42Speaker 3: something like that.
- 23:43Speaker 10: Yeah, well, he's not totally sure when it's from he's like,
- 23:46Speaker 10: I think the fifties, So it's not like he's sound.
- 23:49Speaker 4: Like experts exactly Antiques road show, Yeah, exactly.
- 23:52Speaker 1: I mean it is the flea market. I will say
- 23:56Speaker 1: five hundred dollars.
- 23:57Speaker 4: I was going to say three hundred.
- 24:00Speaker 5: I'm thinking because I've gone to swap meets and stuff
- 24:02Speaker 5: where I see a table and I think, oh, that's
- 24:04Speaker 5: kind of cool, and they want a ton of money.
- 24:06Speaker 5: I'm going to say two thousand dollars.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Who he benchmark?
- 24:10Speaker 4: Does this for us?
- 24:12Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 24:12Speaker 8: What do you say?
- 24:13Speaker 1: Five thousand?
- 24:13Speaker 5: Right?
- 24:14Speaker 4: If it's condition right? I was going to say two
- 24:16Speaker 4: thousand and two?
- 24:17Speaker 1: So does it work? No, that does it?
- 24:21Speaker 11: But it's able to be restored to working as this
- 24:25Speaker 11: idiot is.
- 24:27Speaker 4: I'm gonna go twenty five hundred, twenty five hundred bucks?
- 24:29Speaker 1: You bass twenty twenty five oh one? All right, let's
- 24:33Speaker 1: find out how much for this old crap?
- 24:35Speaker 4: What I mean, did I get? Can I guess that?
- 24:37Speaker 2: Sure?
- 24:39Speaker 4: I'll say two thousand and one.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Two thousand and one.
- 24:43Speaker 4: I wanted two thousand.
- 24:44Speaker 8: Yeah, okay, how much are you selling this old crap for?
- 24:47Speaker 8: I'm asking six fifty for it. What is your favorite
- 24:50Speaker 8: co Cola product?
- 24:51Speaker 1: Favorite co Cooke?
- 24:52Speaker 8: I'm actually a Pepsi guy.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Really wow, a lot of Coke products here.
- 24:56Speaker 9: Yeah, actually Coke makes more advertising than PEPs that's the
- 25:01Speaker 9: reason why.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Okay, that's got to be close without going over.
- 25:06Speaker 4: Yeah, so good.
- 25:09Speaker 1: How much for that old crab Flea Market edition?
- 25:11Speaker 3: Now this next item are like little noome houses that
- 25:15Speaker 3: are being built by this couple. Now I assume one
- 25:18Speaker 3: day this is gonna be Sammy and her husband steamboat.
- 25:25Speaker 1: William is gonna be the one like manning the tent.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Your faery garden it looks.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Like yeah, yeah wait wait so it looks like a dollhouse,
- 25:33Speaker 3: but it's kind a gnomish a birdhouse.
- 25:37Speaker 4: Look at your house, but it's not kind of ginger British.
- 25:40Speaker 1: What would you do with that?
- 25:41Speaker 8: Put in a fairy garden? Are you put it on
- 25:45Speaker 8: your mantle?
- 25:46Speaker 1: What's a fairy garden?
- 25:48Speaker 11: People make faery gardens. They'll be outside of houses or
- 25:51Speaker 11: like outside in front of trees. And you do, you'll
- 25:54Speaker 11: have little whimsical fairy faurines in your yard.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Yeah, Greg, would you kill yourself?
- 26:00Speaker 5: There's this house near mind the front yard they changed
- 26:04Speaker 5: it from like a nice landscape yard. They put nothing
- 26:06Speaker 5: but rocks, bird feeders, gnomes and all that, and then
- 26:10Speaker 5: a huge wooden sign retired gardener her house.
- 26:17Speaker 8: So no, this is one house, is this old lady?
- 26:19Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 26:19Speaker 3: There, it looks like three little houses together, but this
- 26:22Speaker 3: is one beause it's one piece.
- 26:23Speaker 8: Yeah, this guy's explaining a little bit more.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, here we go. How much for that old
- 26:28Speaker 1: crab flea market edition?
- 26:30Speaker 8: Tell me about your booth?
- 26:30Speaker 2: Here?
- 26:31Speaker 7: These are fairy houses that we make, uh made all
- 26:35Speaker 7: out of wood?
- 26:36Speaker 2: Now?
- 26:36Speaker 8: Can I ask you about this item right here?
- 26:38Speaker 7: This one right here is the only one here that
- 26:39Speaker 7: has led lights, the doors open, and the furniture inside
- 26:44Speaker 7: a seashell for a sink in their claw foot tub
- 26:46Speaker 7: and rubber duck. There's teddy bears laying on the bed.
- 26:50Speaker 7: It's a fun house.
- 26:51Speaker 8: How much are you selling this old crap for so
- 26:53Speaker 8: you can put stuff inside of it?
- 26:55Speaker 1: Is elaborate. I'm telling you you have to pay me
- 26:58Speaker 1: to take it. Yeah, and then I take it right
- 27:01Speaker 1: to the dumpsters. I don't know why people put up
- 27:05Speaker 1: bird houses and things like that too, because it just
- 27:07Speaker 1: makes a mess of your yard messy I used to
- 27:11Speaker 1: have a bird feeder and it would get seed everywhere.
- 27:13Speaker 5: Forget it all?
- 27:14Speaker 1: Right, So how much for Sammy's future? You know what,
- 27:18Speaker 1: Sammy seems to know the most about it. So we'll
- 27:21Speaker 1: go with you first. I'm going to say five hundred.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I mean, how do you put a price on garbage?
- 27:27Speaker 11: Miniature stuff is really difficult to make too, and there's
- 27:29Speaker 11: a bunch of miniatures in there, and it can get.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Expensive, not if you use tiny kid hands. Yeah, right
- 27:34Speaker 1: in foreign lands.
- 27:37Speaker 10: I'm going to stick with my last answer and say
- 27:39Speaker 10: three hundred again.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Three hundred bucks.
- 27:41Speaker 4: I'm going to fifty put.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Me down for two fifty one. Dang it, I'll go
- 27:46Speaker 1: to fifty.
- 27:47Speaker 4: We're at a flea market. Yeah, fifty dollars, I know.
- 27:50Speaker 1: But they had to make it, right they Yeah, Yeah,
- 27:54Speaker 1: I think that's I think that's the That's the thing
- 27:55Speaker 1: about it is that if it yeah, this is something
- 27:57Speaker 1: you could buy these and they were just kind of
- 27:59Speaker 1: reselling them.
- 28:00Speaker 5: See random candles at the flea market and they want
- 28:02Speaker 5: forty six dollars.
- 28:04Speaker 1: They overcharged Sea Bass.
- 28:06Speaker 4: How much something that goes outside? And I agree, thin
- 28:09Speaker 4: to me has dollars? How about that?
- 28:11Speaker 8: Has led all right, all right, what did you say?
- 28:16Speaker 1: I said, fifty?
- 28:17Speaker 8: All right, let's find out how much are you selling
- 28:19Speaker 8: this old crap for him?
- 28:21Speaker 5: Right here?
- 28:22Speaker 7: Six hundred just about six weeks to building.
- 28:25Speaker 8: Where do you inspire to go after this? Are you
- 28:27Speaker 8: going to build a full scalehouse one day?
- 28:29Speaker 7: Well, I'd sure liked it, but I may have a
- 28:30Speaker 7: hard time getting a building permit. That would be fun
- 28:33Speaker 7: to try.
- 28:36Speaker 4: To sell any.
- 28:38Speaker 8: Yeah, he's been selling. I talked to him a little
- 28:40Speaker 8: bit more.
- 28:41Speaker 3: He said that he's been selling these there for about
- 28:44Speaker 3: over fifteen years.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Six hundred dollars for that?
- 28:47Speaker 4: What is say, a booth at the flea market cost?
- 28:49Speaker 1: All that we know?
- 28:51Speaker 4: But you text in if you.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Know, to rent one, probably like yeah, to be there
- 28:54Speaker 3: bucks or something really, to be there on side of
- 28:56Speaker 3: the seal stuff.
- 28:56Speaker 8: Yeah, to get a little space, I mean, is that
- 28:58Speaker 8: out of here?
- 29:00Speaker 4: Is it outdoors this one? Or into outdoors?
- 29:02Speaker 1: Okay, alright, let's do uh, let's do one more. How
- 29:05Speaker 1: much for that old crab?
- 29:06Speaker 8: Okay?
- 29:07Speaker 3: Now this is I didn't even know what it was
- 29:09Speaker 3: when I first saw it, and uh, it ended up
- 29:13Speaker 3: being a knife and it looks like yeah, like kind
- 29:16Speaker 3: of like a little mill Eastern style type curved, curved knife.
