Latest / Foul Territory / Ken Rosenthal's Inside Scoop: Trout’s epic week, Mets skid, Pads sale
Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Yeah, this is the inside Scoop. It's presented by Game Changer.
- 0:08Speaker 1: More on that coming up in a moment, but first
- 0:10Speaker 1: let's get to Ken and talk about someone who kids
- 0:13Speaker 1: look up to for a long time, and that's Mike Trott.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I loved your column, Ken.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Can you tell us about what you saw this week
- 0:19Speaker 1: from Trout putting on a show?
- 0:20Speaker 2: And also, so many people going, is Mike Trout back?
- 0:24Speaker 2: He's always been amazing when he's on the field, right, And.
- 0:27Speaker 3: That's the thing that sometimes people forget, especially maybe younger
- 0:31Speaker 3: fans who weren't around when he was dominating the game.
- 0:33Speaker 3: In the twenty tens. Column is basically about just that
- 0:38Speaker 3: he is back and back in a big way and
- 0:41Speaker 3: healthy and contributing like he has in the past when healthy.
- 0:46Speaker 3: And the fun part of it for me, he was
- 0:48Speaker 3: talking to Brady Anderson, the Angels new hitting coach, and
- 0:51Speaker 3: he basically said, hey, man, just look at the top
- 0:54Speaker 3: twenty and ops all time.
- 0:56Speaker 4: You'll see his name right there with DiMaggio and mu
- 0:59Speaker 4: zeal and all these guys.
- 1:00Speaker 3: That's who he is, and yes, that's the player we
- 1:03Speaker 3: saw again at Yankee Stadium this weekend. And the other
- 1:07Speaker 3: thing about Trout.
- 1:08Speaker 4: That is notable.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I know a lot of fans and even people inside
- 1:11Speaker 3: the game over the years have expressed frustration that he
- 1:15Speaker 3: never wanted to leave Anaheim, and Kevin maybe you can
- 1:17Speaker 3: speak to this. That is not an indication of any
- 1:22Speaker 3: lack of competitiveness on his part.
- 1:24Speaker 4: He is extremely competitive, extremely.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Fiery in his approach and the way he goes about
- 1:31Speaker 3: the game. It's just that he's been loyal to that franchise.
- 1:34Speaker 3: So it's good for everyone to get a reminder again
- 1:38Speaker 3: of just who this guy is. He's approaching his thirty
- 1:40Speaker 3: fifth birthday and he is going quite strong.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean, I think we can sit here and
- 1:49Speaker 5: people could talk about his lack of you know, competitiveness
- 1:52Speaker 5: and not wanting to play in a winning organization, but
- 1:55Speaker 5: I think he should be applauded for his loyalty, you know.
- 1:58Speaker 5: And I'm an NBA fan and you see it all
- 2:00Speaker 5: the time, and the NBA players, you know, want to
- 2:03Speaker 5: team up so that they can create super teams. Mike
- 2:06Speaker 5: has drafted developed by Anaheim, has always wanted to be there.
- 2:10Speaker 5: He's always wanted to win there, you know, and unfortunately
- 2:12Speaker 5: it hasn't happened. But you know, I think we should
- 2:14Speaker 5: applaud him for his loyalty. And I guess my question
- 2:17Speaker 5: to you is, you've been in the game a long
- 2:19Speaker 5: time too. The show that Mike Trout and Aaron Judge
- 2:22Speaker 5: put on collectively one of the greatest kind of back
- 2:25Speaker 5: and forth duos you can remember in recent history.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Yes, and it actually hearkens back to maguire so in
- 2:32Speaker 3: ninety eight. And we all know now that we look
- 2:34Speaker 3: at that a different way, but that was the kind
- 2:37Speaker 3: of excitement that we saw back then. Back then, it
- 2:40Speaker 3: was checking the box scores every day. It wasn't an
- 2:43Speaker 3: Internet back then, and just wow, marveling at the fact
- 2:47Speaker 3: that these two guys were one upping each other on
- 2:50Speaker 3: almost a daily basis. That's kind of what this reminded
- 2:53Speaker 3: me of, Kevin. And it was really cool just to
- 2:56Speaker 3: see these two players on that stage, which is one
- 2:58Speaker 3: of the biggest in the sport, kind of dueling each
- 3:01Speaker 3: other with home runs. And obviously the Angels were off
- 3:05Speaker 3: to a surprisingly good start, the Yankees not so much,
- 3:09Speaker 3: and that was the backdrop to all this, But this
- 3:11Speaker 3: was really a case of two superstars on display at
- 3:15Speaker 3: their finest.
- 3:17Speaker 6: Obviously, spring training it's always best shape of my life.
- 3:20Speaker 6: The first time I saw Trout hit a homer, I
- 3:22Speaker 6: think he hit it in Houston. I think it was
- 3:24Speaker 6: his first homer this year. It looked like he had
- 3:27Speaker 6: lost some weight. Is there was there talk around the
- 3:30Speaker 6: clubhouse when you're talking different guys like it does look
- 3:33Speaker 6: like something different or is it one of those things? Yeah,
- 3:35Speaker 6: he hit a homer. Of course it looks different because
- 3:37Speaker 6: he's out on the field.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I don't know that physically he's all that much different.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Maybe he did lose a little way. Eric actually haven't
- 3:44Speaker 3: asked him that. I haven't seen him to ask him that,
- 3:46Speaker 3: but certainly, again, the feeling always is when he's healthy,
- 3:52Speaker 3: you're seeing something unbelievable. Now, over the last the previous
- 3:56Speaker 3: five seasons, he actually has missed more games than he
- 3:59Speaker 3: has played. So we haven't seen this guy except in flashes.
- 4:03Speaker 3: And maybe this is just a flash, and who knows
- 4:06Speaker 3: what his physical condition might be the rest of the way.
- 4:08Speaker 4: But everyone can hope that it's good. And the other
- 4:12Speaker 4: thing about Trout that I want to mention.
- 4:15Speaker 3: The people who are closest to him, teammates like Kevin
- 4:18Speaker 3: when he played with him, and others. They are the
- 4:21Speaker 3: people who speak most highly of him, and I always
- 4:24Speaker 3: I am struck by that, just talking to Brady Anderson
- 4:27Speaker 3: and John Gibbons. Then there are two new coaches with
- 4:30Speaker 3: the Angels this year, and Anderson said he's about as
- 4:33Speaker 3: down to earth the superstar as you ever would meet. Actually,
- 4:36Speaker 3: Gibbons said that, and Brady also spoke to Trout's humility
- 4:41Speaker 3: and just the way he goes about it. And this
- 4:44Speaker 3: is a guy who does not seek attention, has not
- 4:47Speaker 3: obviously chosen to go to the big bright lights, signing
- 4:51Speaker 3: big contracts with the Angels instead, but he is someone
- 4:54Speaker 3: who in the game, and you heard Judges' comments this
- 4:57Speaker 3: week too, he is revered and he's because he goes
- 5:01Speaker 3: about it the right way.
- 5:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I could kind of speak on that
- 5:04Speaker 5: when I you know, I signed there, you know, early
- 5:08Speaker 5: in the season. I wasn't with him in spring training,
- 5:10Speaker 5: and you just kind of never know how you're gonna
- 5:12Speaker 5: kind of be received by a guy like Mike Trout.
- 5:14Speaker 5: And he was nothing but you know, kind and gracious,
- 5:16Speaker 5: and it was during a time of his injury and
- 5:19Speaker 5: he just you know, opened up to me and asked
- 5:21Speaker 5: me my opinion on certain things, and to your point,
- 5:24Speaker 5: probably the most humble superstar i'd ever been around. You
- 5:27Speaker 5: mentioned Brady Anderson though in your conversations with them at all,
- 5:30Speaker 5: because you know, I've seen the video where he's kind
- 5:33Speaker 5: of implemented that aeronauto stepped back a little bit. Had
- 5:36Speaker 5: did he mention anything about some mechanical changes that maybe
- 5:39Speaker 5: he implemented or are these things that might kind of
- 5:41Speaker 5: implement it on his own?
- 5:43Speaker 3: Yes, we did talk about that, and Anderson actually said
- 5:46Speaker 3: that Trout started doing this toward the end of last year.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And remember the end of last season, he was really good,
- 5:52Speaker 3: and that's when he started the step back, which is
- 5:54Speaker 3: kind of a counterintuitive thing. You're stepping back with your
- 5:57Speaker 3: back foot. It doesn't seem to make sense, but it
- 6:00Speaker 3: kind of enables him to load properly. And it wasn't
- 6:04Speaker 3: something he started the season with, but he went back
- 6:06Speaker 3: to it, I don't know, about a week or two ago,
- 6:09Speaker 3: and for now he feels comfortable with that, and clearly
- 6:12Speaker 3: it worked out pretty well for him at Yankee Stadium
- 6:15Speaker 3: this week.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Hey, last one on this ken.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I mean, you go from people saying, uh, you know,
- 6:23Speaker 1: Trout's cooked, you could never trade even a slice of
- 6:26Speaker 1: that contract to where's he going just got to ask
- 6:30Speaker 1: the classic question. If Trout does this for the entire
- 6:33Speaker 1: first half of the season, do you ever think there's
- 6:35Speaker 1: a world where the Angels tried to capitalize on trading
- 6:39Speaker 1: him when his value is high and he could contribute
- 6:41Speaker 1: to a contender. I'm going to preface this because Angels
- 6:43Speaker 1: fans are going to lose their mind if history plays
- 6:46Speaker 1: itself out like it has for the past decade and
- 6:48Speaker 1: the Angels aren't good.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Well, if he is this for the first half and
- 6:54Speaker 3: their rotation remains what it is right now with some
- 6:57Speaker 3: pretty impressive things going on, they're in contention and they're
- 7:01Speaker 3: not trading Mike Trout, not even thinking about trading Mike Trout.
- 7:04Speaker 3: And honestly, Scott, we can talk about this on shows
- 7:09Speaker 3: like ours, and I can write about it, but I
- 7:11Speaker 3: can't imagine anything changing because even if the Angels want
- 7:15Speaker 3: to trade him, he has said repeatedly.
- 7:17Speaker 4: He doesn't want to go, and I would think that
- 7:20Speaker 4: that is the direction that this is going to end
- 7:23Speaker 4: up in.
- 7:23Speaker 3: If he's really good, they're probably pretty good, at least
- 7:27Speaker 3: in wild card contention, and heck, in that division right now,
- 7:31Speaker 3: Seattle is not what we thought, at least not yet,
- 7:34Speaker 3: and it's more wide open than perhaps we all envisioned
- 7:38Speaker 3: at the start of the season.
- 7:40Speaker 6: All Right, a team that does want their superstar back
- 7:42Speaker 6: on the field and won Soto. Is there anything in
- 7:45Speaker 6: the timeline that we can glean from what we've been
- 7:49Speaker 6: hearing about the fact that he's been running or I
- 7:51Speaker 6: think he ran two days ago, and the Mets desire
- 7:56Speaker 6: to not rush him back, but they don't score any
- 7:59Speaker 6: runs without him, so they need him back.
- 8:02Speaker 3: It sounds like next week for him, and that's if
- 8:05Speaker 3: everything goes smoothly. Of course, I don't know that they're
- 8:08Speaker 3: going to rush him, and I don't know that they're
- 8:09Speaker 3: not going to rush him. And what I mean by
- 8:11Speaker 3: that is they're gonna let him proceed on his own
- 8:13Speaker 3: due time. And listen, if it takes one soda, three
- 8:17Speaker 3: or four more days. This is a six month season.
- 8:19Speaker 3: The Mets are not going to rush him back and say,
- 8:21Speaker 3: oh my gosh, we need you right now. We saw
- 8:24Speaker 3: last year they were the best team in baseball in
- 8:26Speaker 3: early June and then things collapsed. Why can't they just
- 8:29Speaker 3: do it the other way this time like they did
- 8:31Speaker 3: in twenty twenty four, So there's no need to rush
- 8:35Speaker 3: him back, even as bad as they look offensively, they
- 8:38Speaker 3: need to get this right and they need to make
- 8:40Speaker 3: sure he's okay before he gets back on the field.
- 8:43Speaker 5: We all know New York can be a tough place
- 8:45Speaker 5: to play. We know the media can be tough.
- 8:47Speaker 2: There.
- 8:48Speaker 5: Are they making a bigger deal out of what's going
- 8:50Speaker 5: on in New York in terms of you know, the
- 8:52Speaker 5: Francisco Lindor won soda stuff, and then maybe just talk
- 8:55Speaker 5: about you've covered you know, Francisco and Lindor a long time.
- 9:00Speaker 5: We're seeing a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes that he's been making.
- 9:03Speaker 5: Do you chuck that up to maybe missing majority of
- 9:06Speaker 5: spring training or is there something deeper there?
- 9:09Speaker 4: Kevin?
- 9:09Speaker 3: They lost or have lost H straight, and you lose
- 9:12Speaker 3: H straight in any market, there's going to be heat.
- 9:14Speaker 3: If you lose H straight in that market, there'll be
- 9:16Speaker 3: more heat because there are, yes, more reporters and frankly
- 9:21Speaker 3: more fans than in most markets. And that is the
- 9:24Speaker 3: nature of playing for the New York Mets. Everyone knows it,
- 9:26Speaker 3: and it shouldn't be a surprise to any of them.
- 9:28Speaker 3: They're playing poorly, they're going to get ripped for it,
- 9:30Speaker 3: and frankly, they've been pretty honest about it.
- 9:34Speaker 4: With their own analysis of the situation. They're not happy.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Carlos Mendoza the other night was as ticked off as
- 9:41Speaker 3: he's probably been in a long time as Mets manager.
- 9:44Speaker 3: As for Lindor, no one seems to have a good
- 9:48Speaker 3: feel on what's going on here and whether it's as
- 9:51Speaker 3: you said, Kevin missing spring training, or whether it's simply
- 9:55Speaker 3: a mental slump, if you can call it that, or
- 9:58Speaker 3: if something is going on behind the scenes that we
- 10:01Speaker 3: don't know about that is somehow affecting him. This does
- 10:03Speaker 3: happen with players all the time, and I frequently say
- 10:07Speaker 3: on the show that it's difficult sometimes to assess these guys.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Not to make excuses, but we don't.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Always know what is going on behind the scenes, and
- 10:16Speaker 3: like any of us, if you have, if you have
- 10:19Speaker 3: some kind of issue personally or whatever.
- 10:22Speaker 4: It might affect your job performance.
- 10:24Speaker 3: So that said, he hasn't said anything, I haven't heard
- 10:27Speaker 3: anything along those lines, And right now, all we can
- 10:30Speaker 3: do is assess his play, which has not been Francisco
- 10:33Speaker 3: Lindor like, and he does need to snap out of
- 10:37Speaker 3: it for them to snap.
- 10:38Speaker 4: Out of it.
- 10:39Speaker 6: Yeah, physically, obviously, the stats are not there. But when
- 10:42Speaker 6: you see those mental laughs as you just you question
- 10:45Speaker 6: and you're like, Okay, you know they got they got
- 10:47Speaker 6: to pick it up or they're gonna fall deep behind.
- 10:50Speaker 6: My question to you, what is the latest news, gossip,
- 10:53Speaker 6: tea whatever. The people are saying on the Padres potential
- 10:58Speaker 6: sale that it could be massive amount of money that
- 11:02Speaker 6: I didn't think the Padres would be sold for, especially
- 11:05Speaker 6: since the match just got sold how many years ago
- 11:09Speaker 6: for less than this.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Well, there was news this morning, first reported by the
- 11:13Speaker 3: Wall Street Journal, that a group led by jose Feliciano
- 11:17Speaker 3: and his wife Kwanza Jones, has bought the team for
- 11:20Speaker 3: three point nine billion dollars. Previous record, as you mentioned, Eric,
- 11:25Speaker 3: was two point four billion. Now, the deal's not final
- 11:28Speaker 3: yet and there's probably going to be some dots to
- 11:32Speaker 3: be crossed in teas or whatever you want to call it.
- 11:34Speaker 3: But at the same time, what is happening here is
- 11:39Speaker 3: cosmic for the game. It's a huge thing, and with
- 11:42Speaker 3: the Padres going for this amount, I am sure you're
- 11:44Speaker 3: going to hear.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Conflicting accounts of what this means.
- 11:48Speaker 3: And we wrote about this, Dennis lenn and I a
- 11:49Speaker 3: couple of weeks ago when we first heard that the
- 11:52Speaker 3: team was going to go for three point five billion
- 11:54Speaker 3: or above. Very few California teams have come for sale
- 11:59Speaker 3: in recent years. There are a lot of wealthy people
- 12:02Speaker 3: in California.
- 12:03Speaker 4: So that in part is what has driven.
- 12:06Speaker 3: The price to this level, the scarcity and the demand.
- 12:10Speaker 3: That's simple economics. But if you are the players Association.
- 12:15Speaker 2: And you're.
- 12:17Speaker 3: About to engage in collective bargaining negotiations in which the
- 12:20Speaker 3: owners want a salary cap in part to enhance their
- 12:24Speaker 3: franchise values, you might say, franchise value is looking pretty good.
- 12:29Speaker 3: San Diego Padres just sold for three point nine billion.
- 12:32Speaker 3: They're a mid market team, They're not a large market team.
- 12:34Speaker 3: And that's an argument too. So I see both sides
- 12:38Speaker 3: of it. I see what I expect to be the
- 12:40Speaker 3: league's point of view that this is an outlier, and
- 12:43Speaker 3: I also see the player's point of view. If this
- 12:46Speaker 3: is indeed what it becomes, hey tell us the sport
- 12:49Speaker 3: is broken, not when this team is selling for three
- 12:52Speaker 3: point nine billion. So not all situations are like we know,
- 12:56Speaker 3: San Diego is not Cleveland, is not Minnesota, it's not Pittsburgh.
- 13:00Speaker 3: San Diego is unique. They have built that franchise to
- 13:02Speaker 3: the point where it is that attractive to buyers. But
- 13:06Speaker 3: at the same time, the gap between what their soul
- 13:10Speaker 3: and they will sell for and what the Mets soul
- 13:12Speaker 3: for in the biggest market in the country not that
- 13:15Speaker 3: long ago, Well that tells you something about the state
- 13:18Speaker 3: of the sport. It's not a complete picture, but it's
- 13:22Speaker 3: certainly a data point.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a great point. Ken, This part is true.
- 13:27Speaker 1: I mean, we've talked about this. You know, leagues have
- 13:30Speaker 1: caps for cost certainty that improves franchise values, just to
- 13:33Speaker 1: give more context to fans. That's where owners say, hey,
- 13:36Speaker 1: we need this too. We're not making as much or
- 13:39Speaker 1: getting as much for our teams once we sell them.
- 13:41Speaker 1: You see something like this pop up. And also, of
- 13:43Speaker 1: course that is the primary purpose there. On the other side,
- 13:47Speaker 1: if you want to improve say competitive balance, you could
- 13:50Speaker 1: share the wealth and the team could still spend that much.
- 13:52Speaker 2: You don't need these levers in place.
- 13:54Speaker 1: So my question and point to you is we saw
- 13:58Speaker 1: from Forbes and Sport about three point one bill so
- 14:02Speaker 1: this obviously goes well above that mark. But even that mark,
- 14:05Speaker 1: I think for Forbes was fifty nine percent year over year,
- 14:09Speaker 1: and they're not including the scarcity, and oh California is
- 14:13Speaker 1: going to be more sexy for people that are trying.
- 14:15Speaker 2: To get something there.
- 14:16Speaker 1: So point is, the valuations are soaring regardless, and the
- 14:19Speaker 1: Padres are in, if not the smallest, one of the
- 14:22Speaker 1: smallest TV markets with really nothing going there until they
- 14:25Speaker 1: get their next deal. So when you add all of
- 14:28Speaker 1: that up again, how healthy is the sport and how
- 14:31Speaker 1: much could this lead to potentially even more of a
- 14:34Speaker 1: debate and fighting leading into the CBA talks.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Well, there's going to be a debate and there's going
- 14:38Speaker 3: to be fighting, There's no question about that. That would
- 14:41Speaker 3: be the case if the Padres did not sell for
- 14:43Speaker 3: three point nine billion, and it is the case that
- 14:45Speaker 3: they are selling for three point nine billion. Now the
- 14:48Speaker 3: legal point out Twins didn't go for nearly this much
- 14:51Speaker 3: when they were selling part of their team. I think
- 14:54Speaker 3: the valuation was one point seven billion or so. And
- 14:56Speaker 3: also this three point nine once you're reduced debt or
- 15:00Speaker 3: take the debt off it, maybe it's three point four,
- 15:03Speaker 3: I don't know, but it's still going to be a
- 15:05Speaker 3: huge number or record number. And again the league is
- 15:09Speaker 3: going to say this is not reflective of all of
- 15:12Speaker 3: these small market franchises. This is a unique circumstance because
- 15:17Speaker 3: of what I just described, the scarcity how much you
- 15:20Speaker 3: buy that is basically in the eye of the beholder.
- 15:23Speaker 3: But at the same time, this deal is also happening
- 15:27Speaker 3: before the national TV deals are signed, before Rob Banford
- 15:32Speaker 3: has implemented what he wants to do, which is make
- 15:34Speaker 3: more of a national package with the local rights, and
- 15:39Speaker 3: of course before the CBA is settled with or without
- 15:42Speaker 3: a cap. People were willing to spend this much money
- 15:45Speaker 3: for the padres with all of that uncertainty.
- 15:49Speaker 4: That does tell you something.
- 15:50Speaker 5: I'm sorry, Yeah, speaking of money, we're seeing a ton
- 15:54Speaker 5: of rookie deals. Is this because we have a unique
- 15:59Speaker 5: rookie class or is this kind of foreshadowing maybe something
- 16:02Speaker 5: that could be happening, you know, with the lockout pending Kevin.
- 16:06Speaker 3: In my view, it's simply because there are so many
- 16:09Speaker 3: talented players that teams want to lock up and secure
- 16:12Speaker 3: and get cost certainty over in what is currently an
- 16:16Speaker 3: uncertain situation. I don't know that the CBA talks are
- 16:20Speaker 3: driving this anymore than would be the case in a
- 16:23Speaker 3: year when the CBA was not up. We've seen extensions
- 16:27Speaker 3: for young players for quite some time now, Bobby with
- 16:29Speaker 3: junior Julio Rodriguez. These are not unusual.
- 16:33Speaker 4: It seems like there are more this year. I'm not
- 16:35Speaker 4: even sure that's the case. I'd have to go back
- 16:37Speaker 4: and really look at it. But it does reflect also the.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Immense talent that these teams are developing and drafting with
- 16:46Speaker 3: what they have in place.
- 16:48Speaker 4: So what's interesting to me.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Also here Pittsburgh, a small market team, did this with
- 16:54Speaker 3: Connor Griffin. The Detroit Tigers, a mid market team, did
- 16:58Speaker 3: it with Kevin McGonagall. Seattle, a revenue sharing recipient, if
- 17:02Speaker 3: not a small market, did it as well with Colt Emerson.
- 17:06Speaker 3: They've done it with Julio Rodriguez. There are ways for
- 17:09Speaker 3: teams to lock up their young players if the players
- 17:13Speaker 3: are willing to sign these kinds of deals, And these
- 17:15Speaker 3: deals are getting richer and richer.
- 17:17Speaker 4: So again, is.
- 17:19Speaker 3: The glass half empty or is the glass half full?
- 17:22Speaker 3: And it's going to depend on the side that you
- 17:24Speaker 3: fall on.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Here, Hey, last one for you, and I'm going to
- 17:28Speaker 1: tie all of this together. Last, I would say major
- 17:31Speaker 1: deal money wise that you'll see for a free agent
- 17:33Speaker 1: is someone you reported on the other day and Lucas Gilito.
- 17:35Speaker 2: I'm bringing it up here again.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Because we talked about your story along with Patrick Mouoney
- 17:39Speaker 1: and Tai Dave Sharma covering the Cubs and Padres as
- 17:41Speaker 1: possible suitors. With this news coming out with the Padres,
- 17:45Speaker 1: do you think there's a chance that the owner can
- 17:47Speaker 1: make a splash here if the deal gets done and
- 17:50Speaker 1: now actually approves whatever.
- 17:51Speaker 2: We're just I made up the number the other day,
- 17:53Speaker 2: ten mil five.
- 17:54Speaker 1: It'll be five pro rated for a team that's the
- 17:57Speaker 1: hottest in baseball right now, one eight in a row
- 17:59Speaker 1: and lost one of their starters and Nick Pavetta for
- 18:01Speaker 1: a while.
- 18:02Speaker 3: All right, First of all, Scott, the deal for the
- 18:04Speaker 3: Padres is not final yet, and then it needs to
- 18:07Speaker 3: go through the approval process, so the owners won't be
- 18:09Speaker 3: approved for.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Probably several months.
- 18:12Speaker 3: That said, if this does go through, let's say the
- 18:16Speaker 3: deal is agreed upon and it certainly will give every
- 18:19Speaker 3: indication of being approved.
- 18:21Speaker 4: These things are rarely rejected.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Then perhaps Jose Feliciano and his wife Kwanza Jones signal
- 18:28Speaker 3: to the front office.
- 18:29Speaker 4: Go ahead and do this. We're good, don't worry about it.
- 18:32Speaker 4: Is that possible? Yes, it's possible. I don't know how
- 18:35Speaker 4: realistic that.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Is, and I don't know how willing the new ownership
- 18:39Speaker 3: would be to act in any regard until everything is
- 18:43Speaker 3: buttoned up. MLB might not want them to act in
- 18:45Speaker 3: any regard until everything is buttoned up, but they can
- 18:48Speaker 3: at least signal to the front office, go ahead, we'll
- 18:51Speaker 3: be fine, we'll back it whatever. Again, I don't have
- 18:54Speaker 3: total details and total knowledge of this, but that would
- 18:57Speaker 3: be my assumption.
- 18:58Speaker 1: It's just an assumption, Ken, Thank you appreciate it. Have
- 19:01Speaker 1: a good weekend.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Thanks guys,
