- 0:00Hello everyone and welcome back to Kenny Conversation brought to
- 0:04you by Jags, the leader in high performance aftermarket car
- 0:09parts. Remember to go to jags.com for
- 0:12everything you need to fix your vehicle or your hot rods up.
- 0:17OK, deep breath everybody. Kind of emergency press
- 0:21conference. Excited to have the CEO of the
- 0:26World Racing Group, Mr. Brian Carter.
- 0:29Brian is the boss of the World of Outlaw Late Models.
- 0:33Brian, welcome to Kenny Conversation.
- 0:36Thank you so much I the bosses also gets blamed for everything
- 0:39too. So that's my title.
- 0:40I get blamed for all of this. So well, you, you know, just
- 0:43quickly the teacher is always in trouble at school because the
- 0:48teacher is the bad person, the police are the bad people.
- 0:53But Brian, I'll just say this, we either have rules or we
- 0:58don't. And you know with social media,
- 1:00that's what keeps us alive here nowadays.
- 1:03Sometimes we wish it would leave.
- 1:05But in reality it's created a whole new business and I don't
- 1:10want to be long winded and I'm not going to be.
- 1:12Let's start out like this. In February at Volusia, one of
- 1:18the granddaddy events of them all, Bobby Pierce, Devin Moran
- 1:25and Cal Bronson had tire samples taken after the races and their
- 1:31their tire samples came back maybe a month ago.
- 1:35That race happened just lately. Yesterday you announced that
- 1:40those tire samples were not right.
- 1:44Now I just want you to start out because everybody is just
- 1:48listening to what you have to say right now.
- 1:52Well they form their own conclusions too.
- 1:54We'll give them that too. So yeah it's it takes longer
- 1:57than we want to. I I really want to know the
- 1:59winner at the end of the night. Sometimes you have to do this
- 2:02and you deliberate over it and and when you get when you get
- 2:05the samples come back good you don't have a delay but when you
- 2:09have them bad then there's a second and third step of the
- 2:11process that takes some time because you you want some time
- 2:14between that too. So it's a it's a time consuming
- 2:17process that that that's required.
- 2:19If you don't have rules chaos ensues So you've got to get you
- 2:22got to get this thing nailed down So yeah it takes a little
- 2:25while when you have a you know people are are trying to figure
- 2:29out why I want to understand why too you know so it's it's it the
- 2:33tire doesn't meet the benchmark tire doesn't meet the benchmark.
- 2:35We go through our process. It's been we've been evolving
- 2:40that process over the last 20 years and it's been really honed
- 2:43in to kind of what what works for us and works for the sport
- 2:46as the best we can. You know, that's all I can do is
- 2:48the best I can do So. But people like to discredit our
- 2:51process, they like to discredit the labs, they like to find a
- 2:54hole in the system because they can't believe that any of this
- 2:56stuff would happen. But hell, I know that people
- 2:58that sell this crap are walking around the pit, are in Volusia
- 3:02and making claims about it being undetectable and all the other
- 3:04stuff too. So you know it's it's a it's a
- 3:07hard game we play and and it comes, you know it.
- 3:10It unfortunately makes my job hard.
- 3:12On some days it's really easy to do the right thing.
- 3:14But it's that you know people wonder are you testing if you
- 3:19just take a second sample, they're forming their own
- 3:21conclusions. So of course we took a second
- 3:23and a third sample and we tested all of them.
- 3:26We only test the first one. If they're if they're bad, we
- 3:28test the second one. We confirm that it's bad and and
- 3:30have a better idea of what the chemicals are and then we send
- 3:33secondarily the third one in case anything's lost in the
- 3:36mail. We send it to the lab and we
- 3:37test that one too. And when it confirms what the
- 3:39second one is, you know the tire doesn't meet the benchmark.
- 3:42You know, I get a lot of questions about I've got a lot
- 3:44of questions and some friendly emails and some not so friendly
- 3:47emails the last couple days. A lot of people telling us thank
- 3:51you for doing your job, a lot of people for saying we don't
- 3:53understand how this could happen and you know, unfortunately it
- 3:57happens and the process is the process.
- 4:00So, but the third sample was tested and it came back bad and
- 4:04it makes us do our job. OK.
- 4:06So let me throw some darts at you that way.
- 4:12I've done my job and then we're going to move on and talk about
- 4:15how we move on. So this conversation is going to
- 4:19be very productive. It's going to be positive.
- 4:23But let me throw the darts at you.
- 4:26All the fans want to know this. OK, if you've taken the tire
- 4:32sample, how come you don't get another tire sample?
- 4:35That's Now I'm going to ask you about four things to calm
- 4:39everything down. So you you got three tests done,
- 4:44is what you said in AB and C Why don't you get another tire
- 4:50sample? Why don't you get another
- 4:51opinion? So how do we answer that?
- 4:55Well that that's interesting. The the assumption is, is I
- 4:58don't we actually do, we don't do it on the competition tire
- 5:02that's been tested, but we test our lab on a regular basis.
- 5:05We test other labs too just to kind of see.
- 5:08So we over the course of time we've tested the other labs,
- 5:11we've tested our lab and candidly you know we're a House
- 5:14of racers when you talk about inside World Racing Group, I've
- 5:17got a Hall of Famer, late model racer, I've got crew chiefs on
- 5:21the late model side. I've got guys that race midgets
- 5:23actively. I've got guys that race stock
- 5:25cars and go karts and St. carts. So it's we're not dummies.
- 5:31We know where to get this stuff. We know it's being done.
- 5:33We know how to do it. So the idea of us not knowing
- 5:37what's out there and doing our own testing with what's out
- 5:41there in the very. I mean, God knows we have all
- 5:43heard simple green makes this stuff go off.
- 5:45Well, we've, you know, we've sent tires that have been damn
- 5:47near soaked in simple green to our lab too.
- 5:50So we know exactly what all of these pieces look like.
- 5:53And we actually test our lab, not even from a World Racing
- 5:56Group address. We do this stuff.
- 5:58So the idea of us, you know, I'm resting my, my, my reputation on
- 6:04the lab's ability to see what we asked them to see.
- 6:08So, you know, we do test. We have sent samples to other
- 6:12labs to do that on the tire in questions.
- 6:15Kind of like asking mom for an answer and then asking dad for
- 6:18an answer. Which one do you like better?
- 6:19Then I get to make a decision. I, I, I candidly want black and
- 6:23white in this scenario. And the science doesn't lie that
- 6:26that's the piece. I don't know how these happened.
- 6:29If anybody, you know, it's like, do you?
- 6:32Anybody thinks I want to have the day I've had the last couple
- 6:34days, they're out of their mind. To think that I'm personally
- 6:37persecuting somebody, particularly our past champion
- 6:40or current points leader, they're out of their mind.
- 6:42So it's it's a, it's a it's a task.
- 6:46But we do know we, I do have racers here.
- 6:49We know how to do this stuff. We know how to we know what
- 6:51tires look like when they get doped in.
- 6:53And candidly, my lab has never missed a result.
- 6:57Whether we send in good tires, we send in simple green tires,
- 7:00we send in some half soaked undetectable tire stuff, or the
- 7:04real bad stuff they haven't missed yet.
- 7:07OK, I have. To hang my head on that.
- 7:09No, no one. Wonderful.
- 7:11And thank you so much. This is difficult on everybody.
- 7:14I wanted to do it because, excuse me, this needs to be de
- 7:19bullshitting completely because this tower tampering has gone on
- 7:25far too long. I guess it's a good soap opera.
- 7:28If people like a soap opera, that's fine.
- 7:31What I find Brian is that I'm running second and the
- 7:37competitors rat each other out and so and so's doping his
- 7:42tires. So now I'm going to dope my
- 7:44tires. So it's a stair step situation.
- 7:48I've heard this before. It's been told me Herman, you
- 7:51better dope your tires because you're getting out run by it
- 7:55like they're a smart ass. Like look, I don't have time to
- 7:57do that. I'm running 7080 races a year,
- 8:00OK? So I wanted to give that
- 8:02comment. I'm going to ask you another
- 8:05question now. All these are questions that
- 8:08have gone on for years, OK. The tire on the car ran through
- 8:13some oil on the racetrack. It was contaminated.
- 8:19Talk about that. Well, we know what oil looks
- 8:21like in a tire sample. I mean, it's not hard to see,
- 8:24you know, So we ran through IT. People are in front of us.
- 8:26We're tire tests. You know, we're doping their
- 8:28tires. We ran through that, you know we
- 8:31when we take the tire samples, we take from three different
- 8:34spots on the on the race tire, we tell the teams you know.
- 8:37Stop right there. Stop right there.
- 8:39I got to interrupt you. That's the number one thing.
- 8:42Say that one more time, three different spots on the tires.
- 8:45Three different spots on the tires.
- 8:46So each AB and C sample coming from three different spots on
- 8:49this race tire and the the you know the I, you know we've the
- 8:54the team brings a grooving iron and the tire to the trailer.
- 8:57They take it. They put it in the vial.
- 8:59I mean this is all stuff. I mean I've been sued for
- 9:02millions of dollars for this process.
- 9:04So we've been defending this trying to maintain the integrity
- 9:07of the sport for a long time. But yes, the teams bring their
- 9:10groove and iron in their tire into our trailer.
- 9:12They they we tell them where we want these samples and parts of
- 9:15the tire and and we know that people are freaking doing some
- 9:19blocks and not doing other blocks.
- 9:20So it's like it's insane how some of this stuff is happening.
- 9:23I. I got to stop you right there.
- 9:25I want people to I'm bad at repeating because I don't think
- 9:28people here. You said that in the past you've
- 9:32been sued for millions of dollars, but here you are,
- 9:35you're going at it again because you have to keep rules.
- 9:39Either you have rules or you don't.
- 9:40So you've been sued in the past and you're still digging and
- 9:44you're making it as good as you can?
- 9:46That's as good as doing the best we can with this.
- 9:48So it's, you know, trying to eliminate all of the variables
- 9:51'cause I don't want true, I want fact and true.
- 9:53Deal with that. I don't want hearsay.
- 9:55Bullshit. Whatever you you know you called
- 9:57it bullshit. It's.
- 9:58Like bullshit. Now that's the hard part.
- 10:01So the the teams know what they're doing.
- 10:03We do it the best we can. We bring the tires in, they're
- 10:07getting tested. They know which ones we they
- 10:09bring it in. We'd say we want a sample from
- 10:10here and a sample from there and a sample from here.
- 10:12Put them in the vial, mark it out, and then from there it
- 10:15becomes a number on a bag. The teams don't the, you know,
- 10:19if, well, the lab's out, we get somebody bullshit.
- 10:23The lab's not out to get anybody.
- 10:24They don't even know who the team is until the penalty
- 10:28report, even if the lab looked at the penalty report.
- 10:31So it's like that, you know, that that myth can be debunked
- 10:34too. It's like we we we're doing the
- 10:37best we know how to do in a way that is consistent and
- 10:40repeatable through the process. And that's what we do.
- 10:43OK, so this is great because we're getting through all this.
- 10:48This is everything that everybody wants to know,
- 10:50specifically the fans. OK, how in the world can our
- 10:55greatest driver, Bobby Pierce? I mean, Devin Moran is
- 10:59incredible. So is Kyle Bronson.
- 11:01The fans just cannot believe this.
- 11:05What you say to them. They're they're heartbroken.
- 11:08How can Bobby Pierce do this? I'm heartbroken too.
- 11:12I mean, I'm heartbroken too. I mean, this is this is these I
- 11:14I stand on the track and and and and have fun with these guys.
- 11:19I don't want it. The last thing I wanted was this
- 11:20to happen, but I got to stand on it.
- 11:23I can't have a decision based on who I got caught.
- 11:26As soon as I do that now, I've got favorites and bias inside
- 11:28the group. I've said it even in the kinser
- 11:30days, I don't care what color that race car is.
- 11:32Once it pulls in the pit area, I can't.
- 11:35Otherwise, in my bias, it becomes favoritism.
- 11:38And favoritism is not what any of our fans will ever put up
- 11:41with. So I I get that.
- 11:43So the idea of us, you know this is heartbreaking for me too.
- 11:47I don't want I don't want people to question and and if you guys
- 11:51knew the principal's up at Blue Ridge they freaking lose sleep
- 11:53over this too. Because I pay them 10s of
- 11:56thousands of dollars to find a bad tire and they last thing
- 11:59they want to do is find 1. So it's like it is you know, I
- 12:02it's it's it's a process that hurts all of us.
- 12:06What I want to do is drive this shit out of our sport.
- 12:09Right, right, right. Because it's dumb, you know?
- 12:12And it starts with. It starts with the guy.
- 12:15You're getting beat by it. Oh, gosh, I'm going to panic.
- 12:18I better do it. That's the way it starts.
- 12:21So let's go right there. All right.
- 12:24You go to the Dome race down here in Saint Louis, OK.
- 12:28It's a wonderful event. And.
- 12:29And there's a vendor, and he's selling this stuff.
- 12:33And you're like, I can't. I can't.
- 12:36I can't believe what I'm looking at Now.
- 12:40You just said earlier you're well aware of all this.
- 12:44Does your company, do you go out secretly and buy all this stuff?
- 12:49Tell me that process. Yeah, we have.
- 12:51I've got plenty of plenty of people that'll provide that to
- 12:54us if we want to. And yes, I've bought some myself
- 12:56so that we can test it. So it's.
- 12:58Not this is a manufacturer not freaking 40 miles from Volusia
- 13:01in the land. Yeah, so, So the tracks are
- 13:06slimy down there. They're all trying to get grip,
- 13:09and that's big tires, soaking capital of the world.
- 13:13We all know that. And once again, we're trying to
- 13:16get to the bottom of this because this hurts our sport.
- 13:19The fans cannot believe it. All right, the next thing, now
- 13:23we we've addressed the AB and C everybody's heard you use your
- 13:27grooving arm, you cut 3 sections out.
- 13:30The names are not on it. It's just a code #3, different
- 13:36tests. Yeah.
- 13:39I mean, so now the next question is this, what is the
- 13:43miscommunication out there? What is your social Media Group
- 13:48reporting back to you that people have wrong?
- 13:54Well, they believe that there's some conspiracy that we're out
- 13:57to persecute our champion. That's stupid.
- 14:00Sorry, I I'm not calling a particular one person stupid,
- 14:03but the idea of us trying to deface, you know, to persecute
- 14:08our champion or our leading points leader or one of the fan
- 14:11favorites is ridiculous. That's that's absolutely
- 14:14ridiculous. Secondarily, they're challenging
- 14:17chemistry. I mean, we are, you know, this
- 14:20mass spectrometer does not lie. There's no judgement.
- 14:23It is this is the this is the chart, this is the chemicals,
- 14:27and this is the this is the science.
- 14:30The idea that that decision's being made with bias is
- 14:33ridiculous. That's the part that's just
- 14:36that. That part that's.
- 14:37And then they they they try to knock down the credibility
- 14:39because they don't understand, you know, they they they have
- 14:43this preconceived notion about sanctioning bodies, using labs
- 14:46or having relationships. I just choose not to have two
- 14:50answers. I don't need 2 answers.
- 14:53I can test to make sure that I trust my answer, but I don't
- 14:55need 2 answers in a decision we got to make.
- 14:58And that's the piece where where you know they they're trying to
- 15:01knock down the credibility because it can't be that it was
- 15:04in the pit area. When I know the vendors are
- 15:05sitting and they're selling it, it can't possibly be that my
- 15:08favorite driver did it. I don't know who did it, but
- 15:11it's my responsibility to make sure that the rule book is
- 15:13followed and the rule book has that the tires have to match the
- 15:16benchmark. Then there's there's things
- 15:18about did Hoosier provide the right benchmark and did Hoosier
- 15:21provide this and then there's there's tires.
- 15:24Did you run over something on the racetrack?
- 15:26It's like the idea of doing all that and then coming up with you
- 15:30know we tested 67 modified and late mileage tires alone and.
- 15:35This, this is important. I want everybody to hear this.
- 15:38That was the next big one. You tested 67 tires and only
- 15:42three. OK, talk loud and clear on this
- 15:45one. Yeah, that's that's the piece
- 15:47that you know it's like it's not like we had tested three and got
- 15:50three. We actually had that happen one
- 15:52year with the spring car tires. We tested 6 and got three.
- 15:55This is back when we were running some non wing stuff at
- 15:58Volusia. We're still running non wing
- 15:59stuff but it's it. We got three out of six but we
- 16:03didn't get any other bad ones the rest of the season.
- 16:06So it's like I still I I felt bad about that but I felt
- 16:09confident in what we found and and we had to do those those
- 16:13penalties wasn't that long ago so this three out of 67 it's not
- 16:18a pervasive problem. So it's back to what's the
- 16:20solution. I'm not.
- 16:22It's hard to to make the entire industry suffer for less than 1%
- 16:27or or in this particular model. It's a little bit more than that
- 16:29for the tires we tested. But by the time you had the
- 16:31Sprint cars and the big blocks and the 360 Show and Sunshine
- 16:34National and all those tests, it's really about 1%.
- 16:37So 1% bad really don't need to make the whole industry
- 16:42miserable for 1%. What we need to do is continue
- 16:44to drive out this thought process of having to dope tires.
- 16:47You need everybody to be serious about it.
- 16:50Yes, I agree. OK.
- 16:52One more thing before we we move forward.
- 16:55Have you tried to trick Blue Ridge Labs before?
- 16:59Have you like, here, test this, Test this.
- 17:01And I mean, you're you're telling me that you've done your
- 17:04own due diligence with them? And every, every we do it.
- 17:08We did it as frequently as this year before the season started.
- 17:11And you you you, you find a baseline and you find that
- 17:14they're accurate every time. And they have been 100% accurate
- 17:17every single time. And and have on purpose.
- 17:20Have you soaked some tires on purpose?
- 17:24I. Mean we have tried everything
- 17:25we've done I told you we've done we've done from the low end
- 17:28range from the spray on stuff that's undetectable is if it
- 17:32affects the composition of the tire.
- 17:34Chances are it's detectable. That's the that's the bull,
- 17:37that's the that's the lie. It's either it's undetectable
- 17:40and effects of performance. Chances are it can't do both.
- 17:43It's either it it may not be a detectable, but it's surely not
- 17:45going to help you on the racetrack.
- 17:47But people use that stuff all the time thinking that that some
- 17:50concept is going to work and doesn't go.
- 17:51You don't go any faster may think you do, but you don't.
- 17:54Or if it does affect the competition, chances are it's
- 17:57going to affect that tire long enough to be a detectable.
- 18:01So I like to ask the questions over so Charlie can edit them
- 18:05because a lot of people aren't going to listen to this full
- 18:08deal. So what I want to know is when
- 18:13when you go about this and you know that you're getting ready
- 18:19to suspend the greatest driver of our era, Bobby Pierce, the
- 18:25Pierce family, just talk about, do you lose sleep at night?
- 18:29You lose a lot of sleep. I mean, you want to make sure
- 18:32that you are accurate as you can be.
- 18:36Have we thought about everything?
- 18:37Have we thought about all of the pieces And the fact of the
- 18:41matter is is yes. We lose sleep.
- 18:43I lose sleep, Steve. Lose sleep.
- 18:46The lab loses sleep. You know these these things when
- 18:49they escalate to this level instead and you have to keep it
- 18:52pretty close. But anybody who is aware or
- 18:54involved with this it it was a serious deliberation.
- 18:57It's we take this serious that's what it is.
- 19:03We take this serious and anything that has a, this has a,
- 19:05it's going to have a negative effect on my business.
- 19:08I've already got plenty of threats about them dropping my
- 19:10dear vision subscription. I'm dropping my dear vision.
- 19:12You know, that's the cost short term to make long term
- 19:16integrity, long term investments in the sport.
- 19:18You know what? I have to give that up.
- 19:19I'm not trading money for that. I'm not trading money for my
- 19:24what's right. So I was told by a dear friend
- 19:30that at the driver's meeting at Volusia you stood up in front of
- 19:36everybody and you said gentlemen, and I'm just going to
- 19:39paraphrase this, you, you stood up and said, gentlemen don't
- 19:43even start this year, don't tamper with your tires.
- 19:47Is that true? It's true, and I might have used
- 19:49some profanity. OK, so so it's true.
- 19:52My friend. My friend is a is a very good
- 19:54friend. What made you do that?
- 19:58Because at that point, not only had the chemical pieces been.
- 20:03Rumored Now we're playing with cold soaking and heat soaking
- 20:08tires and you know, flashing them to create another heat
- 20:12cycle. I'm like, guys, this is
- 20:14ridiculous. What are we doing?
- 20:16That's really my my comments and that was don't do this.
- 20:21This is stupid. And I'd already been even as
- 20:26early as sunshine told everybody that we were serious about
- 20:29testing the chemical part of the tires.
- 20:31Then I heard that we're not only doing this, but we're trying to
- 20:33create an extra heat cycle and we're trying to create, you
- 20:36know, preserving something inside the tire by playing with
- 20:39swimming pools and ice and heats up and like bullshit, stop this
- 20:42stuff. And I might have told him to F
- 20:44around and find out. I mean, it's like, this is not
- 20:47something I want in our sport. What it does is it drives away
- 20:51all the teams that can't afford to have a tire guy all week prep
- 20:5425 tires. It takes enough just to grind
- 20:57inside and groove them, much less trying to we figuring out
- 21:00if we're putting something in them or not.
- 21:02Yeah, it it, it. I'm just thinking to myself all
- 21:05the years that I've raced in Asphalt and I know how different
- 21:08it is than dirt. I I probably run more dirt races
- 21:11now than I've ever run asphalt. And I'm thinking to myself, my
- 21:16wife will say to me, when are you going to be home?
- 21:19I said, honey, I'm on. I'm I'm still grinding.
- 21:22I'm grooving. I'm siping and in my mind I
- 21:26can't imagine now soaking them or or treating them.
- 21:29Brian, in your opinion, why don't, why do people do this?
- 21:35Why do they, I mean, I know I want to hear from you.
- 21:38Why do people treat their tires? Because they want to go fast.
- 21:43We're all racers, right? I even said my whole company is
- 21:46is passionate about racing. They, you know you have some
- 21:49spurts where the the teams outrun you and then you try to
- 21:52catch up to them and the teams outrun you and try to catch up
- 21:54to them and they're so they just want to go fast.
- 21:56They want to be. They want to win.
- 21:58And and you're getting beat by it.
- 22:00You're getting beat by you gotta do it.
- 22:03So, you know, a lot of the, a lot of it is just about that.
- 22:06I mean, you know, I can't. I've had these, I've had
- 22:09arguments with discussions, whatever you wanna call them
- 22:12with racers for a long time, for 20 years and you don't, you
- 22:16know, they want they succeed by preserving their own
- 22:19self-interest. I get it.
- 22:20I mean I get it. Everybody wants to win.
- 22:21They want more and they want to do it fast and they want to do
- 22:24it now and all of those things. It's hard.
- 22:27So there's periods of time where they outrun us, they beat us,
- 22:29they snookered us for a little bit, then I catch up, and then
- 22:32they snookered us for something else, and then I catch up.
- 22:34I mean, it goes back to even the spring that's inside the rod,
- 22:36that's holding up the so that the drip works out good until
- 22:38you step on the wheel. And now the tire sinks because
- 22:41there's something in there that holds it up at 75 lbs.
- 22:43But at 100 lbs when you're driving down the racetrack, the
- 22:45doop doesn't work. So they outrun us a little bit.
- 22:48This is one of those things I think maybe they were they were
- 22:50playing with some stuff and we they outran us for a little bit
- 22:52on some of this stuff, but the undetectable stuff is detectable
- 22:55guys. That's what it comes down to.
- 22:57Yeah, the very the very last thing is why does it take so
- 23:00long to find this out? Well, I gave you the the mass
- 23:06quantity of of tires. We were aggressive.
- 23:08We took qualifying tires, we took some heat race tires, we
- 23:11took some feature tires and we got sprints and and big locks
- 23:15and late models and modifieds and 100 modifieds.
- 23:17And so we're testing all this stuff and then we stack it all
- 23:19at the lab. So it it takes a little bit of
- 23:22time. I want it to be real time and
- 23:24right away, but you can't. Sometimes you can't do the math
- 23:27and the and the science. OK.
- 23:29Now this is where I respectfully talk to you about moving
- 23:34forward. We're done.
- 23:35You've answered everything. I appreciate it for everybody
- 23:38out there watching this. He answered everything.
- 23:41If you're just going to dream up things, I can't.
- 23:43I can't help that. He answered everything.
- 23:45He really did OK NASCAR made a mistake three years ago.
- 23:53They tried so hard. They said OK, inspection's over.
- 23:57After the race, William Byron's your winner.
- 24:00Then they said, well, not yet. We're going to take the car back
- 24:04and on Wednesday we're going to, we're going to inspect the car
- 24:08and I'm like, OK, you're going to announce the real winner on
- 24:11Wednesday after inspection. So what?
- 24:14This is the problem I have with the whole situation.
- 24:17Number one, I want tire. I want truck tire treating gone
- 24:23because it's stupid. It's an embarrassment.
- 24:26What do we got to do? So at eleven, 12:00 at night,
- 24:33that's the winner and we know that's the winner and that
- 24:35winner can never be taken back. That's what I want to know and I
- 24:40want to give you my idea. I apologize for being a long
- 24:44winded. I want there to be a talk.
- 24:49I want to, I want to debate close, closed door debate with
- 24:54car owners, crew chiefs, drivers.
- 24:58The World of Outlaws comes to your local track and everybody's
- 25:04in and parked. Bring your right rear tire,
- 25:07brand new with the titties on them.
- 25:10Bring them to the impound area. They come to the impound area to
- 25:14your office and somehow we allow you to go back to your trailer
- 25:19with them and in 45 minutes at right rear tire, that tire
- 25:23somehow, and this has got to be talked about, has got to get
- 25:27back and that is your right rear feature tire.
- 25:31Now the reason I am asking for something like this could be
- 25:35tweaked, could be tweaked because when the race is over we
- 25:40know that's the winner. Just talk about that talk a
- 25:43little bit. So initially I'm we've tried
- 25:49compound, we've tried quarantining tires.
- 25:52A lot of the benefits of tire treatment right now are getting
- 25:56it earlier in the night. You know you're stacking up into
- 25:59a 60 car field, you qualify. 3rd or 4th is different than if you
- 26:03qualified 15th or 16th, so you can't.
- 26:05So it's not just a feature tire. And one of our tires wasn't a
- 26:08feature tire problem. So you gotta you have a one of
- 26:11the tires wasn't a feature tire. That oh that's that's that's
- 26:14breaking news in the garage area one of the say that again.
- 26:19One of the tires was not a featured tire, it was a
- 26:21qualifying tire. Makes sense, right?
- 26:23It makes sense. See, now you talk about starting
- 26:26three or four rows further forward in a heat race in A10.
- 26:32Car Heat Ray Streetcars qualify. It's a big deal.
- 26:35It's a big deal. So you know there's that's the
- 26:38first thing. So you might address the the
- 26:43feature tire problem, but may not may not catch the the the
- 26:50qualifying tire problem. The other thing is, is that a
- 26:53lot of these things that are being tried right now that are
- 26:56undetectable that are are more in the more volatile chemical
- 26:59range, meaning it can be effective by being sprayed on
- 27:03and then dissipate over time very quickly.
- 27:07So the idea that you need to go spend all this time soaking
- 27:11tires is not necessarily truth anymore.
- 27:16You can, you can actually create an A competitive advantage with
- 27:19some products that are just sprayed on the tire and then
- 27:22theoretically dissipate in a short amount of time.
- 27:27Our chemical tests pick that stuff up too.
- 27:30Even after a couple of weeks, it still finds those.
- 27:33Our chemical tests, our lab is still able to find those.
- 27:36We know exactly we that was one of those things when we tried to
- 27:38trick our, you know tried to test our tire testing and we we
- 27:41found the spray chemical even weeks after it was applied.
- 27:46So it's it's hard the we did, we did quarantine tires.
- 27:52We make tires available only at the racetrack for some bigger
- 27:54paying shows somewhere you can afford that kind of piece.
- 27:57But it does create a disadvantage for the teams that
- 28:00don't have the ability to do a lot of that stuff at the
- 28:03racetrack. A lot of this, a lot of the
- 28:05teams have to show up and race with what they have and they
- 28:07kind of predetermined what that was.
- 28:10You can, you can, you can make an argument for any of these
- 28:12things. My first argument with you would
- 28:14be, damn, we sure shouldn't be being done at 11 or midnight.
- 28:17I want to be done at 9:00. And I and I and I was giving you
- 28:22a little leeway. I know you were but no no No 10
- 28:25primary feature done by ten 10:30 we're that's that's my
- 28:28goal but but I want to and if you look we have done that on
- 28:34every other aspect of we try to we do the droop before we do the
- 28:38Victory Lane. We do the scaling we've done all
- 28:41the pre tech especially on the late models we've done pre tech
- 28:44on the Sprint cars. So really the only variable left
- 28:47is the scale the droop and the tire and hope thank goodness
- 28:53right now it's still less than 1%.
- 28:55My goal is to make it 0% chance that the tire is going to throw
- 28:59somebody out but I can't do this on my own.
- 29:01I can't do this as on my own series I got to have this
- 29:05supported by the industry and and if they don't support me
- 29:09then I'm going to be out here on an island and fighting my battle
- 29:11and and continuing to do that. That's my commitment to the
- 29:14sport, continuing to do that and then then pick where you race,
- 29:18which which you know how you want to race it.
- 29:20All right. Let's wrap it up a little bit.
- 29:22I want to thank you so much. It's been 30 minutes.
- 29:25And what's the final thing you say that I hear my friends go,
- 29:30it's undetectable. They can't find it.
- 29:33Now you just said it, but I want to ask the question I heard.
- 29:37I heard what you said, but what do you tell all the Tower
- 29:40Soakers that say they can't, they cannot detect it?
- 29:45I'd say the exact thing that you said.
- 29:47Bullshit. I love it.
- 29:50OK You know that I'm dear friends with Bobby Pierce.
- 29:56Gary Saintsen sponsors his car. Low voltage.
- 30:00I admire the Moran family. Donnie Moran, the $1,000,000
- 30:05man, his boy. Now, Devon, you know Kyle
- 30:09Bronson. My friendship is with those guys
- 30:13and where I come in is I love the sport so much, you know that
- 30:20it reminds me of when I was doing NASCAR Victory Lane with
- 30:25Tony Stewart and Tony just bought Eldora and Tony won the
- 30:30Richmond night race and Tony's all happy he wanted.
- 30:34And I said, hey, I think it was why somebody.
- 30:37I said somebody, you know, so and so won, but they were light
- 30:41at the scales. I thought Tony Stewart got so
- 30:46mad because the integrity of the winner of that race at Eldora
- 30:52got tainted because the guy was light at the scales.
- 30:55It wasn't bloomer, it was somebody else.
- 30:58So I see how this hurts the industry.
- 31:04I see it. You got these people over here,
- 31:06they don't tech enough. You got these people over here.
- 31:09Let them soak their tires. And I'm in the middle going make
- 31:12your mind up. And I want to thank you for
- 31:15being the bad police. I'm sorry what you have to go
- 31:19through. I don't want your job.
- 31:21And and Brian, thank you so much for addressing this.
- 31:26Well, I appreciate it. I'm really blessed to get to do
- 31:28what I do, You know, I think there'd be more people angry
- 31:31with me if they knew that I found three bad tires and didn't
- 31:33do anything about it. Oh, no, that's it.
- 31:35That's it, 'cause that that would be the controversy at hand
- 31:39is that you're the Mafia, you know, so we know you're not.
- 31:43Your heart's in the right place. I can tell that I've told my
- 31:46truth here. I've told everybody I'm friends
- 31:48with every one of those drivers that, you know, I had tire
- 31:51samples and, you know, I'm friends with you.
- 31:53But, you know, it's it's been business, friendship.
- 31:56I'm friends with Mike Hilton. I'm friends with Ben Kennedy.
- 31:59I'm going to have Ben Kennedy on here next week, but it's a
- 32:03working relationship and I'm mature enough to know that I
- 32:06don't got to hate you. All I got to do is respect you
- 32:10and thank you for coming on here.
- 32:12I appreciate you spreading the word.
- 32:14Hello to all those race fans. See you next time at the
- 32:17racetrack. Come by and if you see me, stop
- 32:19me. Say hi.
- 32:20OK, everybody. Remember we are in podcast form.
- 32:24We're on iTunes and Spotify. You can listen to Brian on the
- 32:27way to work. It's only 30 minutes, or you can
- 32:30listen to the rest of it on the way back home.
- 32:34All right, we got some good ones coming up, Danica Patrick said
- 32:38she's coming on and so did Kyle Busch.
- 32:41We're excited about the next Kenny conversation.
- 32:44Until next time, we'll see y'all later.
