- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So this morning I want to talk to you about being creative,
- 0:33creativity. Oh gosh, one of my favorite all
- 0:36time words things to do. I am just obsessed with being
- 0:42creative in any way, shape or form that I can.
- 0:45It is just something I absolutely adore doing, whether
- 0:50it's creating gardens, whether it's writing books, whether
- 0:53it's, you know, painting, drawing, coloring, I don't care
- 0:57how simple it can be baking cookies.
- 0:59I just love being creative. And for me, I think creativity
- 1:04is a very misunderstood part of human beings.
- 1:10You know, I grew up in a house where my mother didn't believe
- 1:15that she was creative at all. And it always was sad to me that
- 1:18she just would say things like that constantly.
- 1:21She'd go, oh, well, I'm not creative.
- 1:23Yeah. You know, your aunt's much more
- 1:24creative than I am. Yet she used to make these
- 1:28beautiful Afghans, and she would crochet all the time, and she
- 1:31did needlepoint, But she would say that because there was
- 1:35already a picture on the needlepoint that it wasn't
- 1:37creative. It was just her following the
- 1:39instructions or because she was crocheting and she was following
- 1:43a pattern, that she wasn't being creative.
- 1:46And I, I never bought the story of it, but it always bothered me
- 1:51that she would frame it that way.
- 1:53And as I grew up and as I, you know, learned about creativity
- 2:00on a different level, I recognize that so many people do
- 2:03this. So many of my clients feel the
- 2:05same way. And they're like, well, I'm not
- 2:06creative. But then, you know, they're
- 2:08amazing cooking. And they're like, well, I'm just
- 2:10following the recipe. And we totally beat the crap out
- 2:14of ourselves by saying I'm not creative when we are totally
- 2:19creative. Just because you're following a
- 2:20recipe or somebody else somebody else created does not mean
- 2:23you're not creative. Of course you are.
- 2:26You're creating that piece. You're being creative.
- 2:28You're in the act of creation. And we as human beings put
- 2:33ourselves down because we think, oh, unless I came up with the
- 2:37original idea, I'm not creative. And it's a bunch of horse crap
- 2:41as far as I'm concerned, does not mean a thing.
- 2:44In fact, human beings are meant to be creative, to constantly be
- 2:49in creation. We create our outside world, we
- 2:51create our thoughts, we create our beliefs, we create
- 2:55everything around us. We are a representation of pure
- 2:58potential and creation. So when you denounce that piece,
- 3:02when you take that that factor of creation and you ridicule it
- 3:06and say, well, I'm not creative, you are doing yourself a wild
- 3:10disservice. You know, I have a lot of people
- 3:13who are very analytical in thinking.
- 3:14And so they'll tell me all the time, well, I'm not creative,
- 3:17but they will send me spreadsheets on stuff that I am
- 3:19blown away by. And I'm like, how could you say
- 3:21you're not creative? You just came up with this
- 3:24amazing spreadsheet. How you put it together, what
- 3:26you put in here, all the data, that's creativity.
- 3:30It might not be like art, art, paint, painting, drawing,
- 3:34whatever, but it's still creativity.
- 3:37And This is why I want to define this with you guys.
- 3:39I want you to all recognize everyone has their own version
- 3:43of being creative. Not everyone has the same gifts.
- 3:48Thank God. I don't want everyone to have
- 3:50the same gifts I have. And I don't want everyone to
- 3:53want the same gifts I have. I want the diversity.
- 3:57I want the fun stuff. I want the fact that, you know,
- 3:59I'm. I love the fact that I don't
- 4:01cook very well. I mean, I, Yeah, it's not my
- 4:04thing. I can do it, but it's just not
- 4:06my thing. But my husband's amazing at it.
- 4:09And I'm blessed to have somebody that can whip something up if I
- 4:12ask for it, or he can go to the refrigerator and take out a
- 4:15bunch of random things and make something extraordinary.
- 4:18I do not have that creativity he does.
- 4:21But at the same time, I can look at a blank spot in our yard and
- 4:25say, oh, I can see exactly what kind of garden I want to put
- 4:28there and create it. And it's thrilling to me to be
- 4:32able to do that or to sit down and say, hey, I'm going to write
- 4:34a book and put a book together and have it done.
- 4:38Is is just absolutely fulfilling on so many levels.
- 4:43So I want you all to pause and really think about the word
- 4:48creativity and the fact that creation is part of who we are
- 4:53as human beings. It's part of our experience here
- 4:56and understanding that you have it, understanding that you can
- 5:00cultivate it and it doesn't have to be by a rigid definition, is
- 5:05so important to your growth and thriving.
- 5:07You're going to hear me say this word all the time because that's
- 5:10what it's about for me. I want to find ways for people
- 5:13to help them thrive, not just survive.
- 5:16I want them to thrive and create.
- 5:19Being creative is part of thriving.
- 5:22Getting into that creative zone, realizing that you have the
- 5:25power in your world to make things happen is astounding and
- 5:30it's a blessing and we have to take it on that way.
- 5:33So today I want you to pause, think about what is your
- 5:36definition of being creative? How do you define it?
- 5:39Do you see yourself that way? And how can you cultivate
- 5:42yourself to see it that way, changing the definition of it
- 5:45for yourself? I hope you all have an amazing
- 5:48day and are blessed and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:51Bye.
