- 0:00Speaker 1: This is dirty little secret, little secret.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Think of the iHeart Radio Music Festival next month in Vegas.
- 0:07Speaker 2: A shot to win a trip on us is coming
- 0:09Speaker 2: up next. Plus you get to take a friend and
- 0:11Speaker 2: it's so much fun, so make sure you listen. It's
- 0:13Speaker 2: mixed one or two point nine ability to kid. Canda
- 0:15Speaker 2: Slowpez is here, so is producer Pooh. It is time
- 0:17Speaker 2: for your dirty little secret. And if you got one
- 0:19Speaker 2: eight three, three, seven, eight seven, one oh two nine,
- 0:23Speaker 2: doesn't matter what that secret is. Bring it on.
- 0:26Speaker 3: So let's start already. You know, we just started back
- 0:30Speaker 3: to school and I'm already failing as a mom. Totally,
- 0:36Speaker 3: no failing.
- 0:37Speaker 2: You said you're failing.
- 0:38Speaker 3: No, I am failing. Yes, my daughters. She just started
- 0:42Speaker 3: third grade this year and she is the light of
- 0:46Speaker 3: my life. I love her more than anything. She's funny,
- 0:49Speaker 3: she's creative, she's sweet. She has this huge personality just
- 0:54Speaker 3: shines like, you know, like the sun. But school and
- 0:58Speaker 3: academics are are a bit more of a struggle for her.
- 1:02Speaker 3: And her biggest problem is with math. Okay, so for
- 1:06Speaker 3: some reason she just doesn't get it. It doesn't click.
- 1:09Speaker 3: I mean she'll sit there and she tries hard.
- 1:12Speaker 2: With me I'm still aftruggled in third grade with it.
- 1:16Speaker 1: My dad had to buy me a cassette tape with
- 1:17Speaker 1: the multiplication tables on it. Because I could learn music,
- 1:20Speaker 1: I could learn lyrics, but I couldn't do multipation. Yeah
- 1:23Speaker 1: it was a song and so I could do it.
- 1:25Speaker 2: So a lot of people deal with this struggle. But
- 1:26Speaker 2: she's struggling. Yeah, some academic especially math. I get it.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean she just gets totally frustrated because you know,
- 1:33Speaker 3: the other kids in the class will catch on right away,
- 1:36Speaker 3: and it's just not happening anyhow. So this year, the
- 1:41Speaker 3: school put her in like a special smaller class that
- 1:45Speaker 3: supposedly gives the kids more attention and extra help when
- 1:48Speaker 3: they're struggling a bit, or you know, maybe it just
- 1:51Speaker 3: takes them a while longer to catch on, which is good.
- 1:55Speaker 3: That's all good. But my secret is that I didn't
- 1:59Speaker 3: tell her this. And you know, since it's a separate
- 2:03Speaker 3: class from like what most of the kids are doing
- 2:06Speaker 3: for their math. I told her that it's a special
- 2:09Speaker 3: advanced class because she's really smart, so she gets to
- 2:12Speaker 3: be in this different class. Oh no, wait, so you
- 2:21Speaker 3: told I know.
- 2:23Speaker 2: So she's in a special class for people who you
- 2:27Speaker 2: know might take a little more effort.
- 2:29Speaker 1: And yeah, they can allow a little more time and
- 2:31Speaker 1: have more patience with the way they learn.
- 2:33Speaker 2: And you told her it was an ap class. Oh no, mom,
- 2:41Speaker 2: I know her, you know, I know.
- 2:43Speaker 3: I mean, it's like it might sadder down that you
- 2:45Speaker 3: know you're going into this class because you're you know,
- 2:48Speaker 3: you're behind the other kids. I mean, she wouldn't hear,
- 2:52Speaker 3: you know, you just learned differently and need you know,
- 2:54Speaker 3: a little more attention. She'd just hear I'm dumb, I'm stupid.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I get your attentions where.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Well, I can't let her think she's dumb, because that's
- 3:02Speaker 3: not going to help things either. I mean, you know,
- 3:04Speaker 3: it's just gonn only make it worse. And the thing is,
- 3:08Speaker 3: it's like my fan has worked just a little bit
- 3:11Speaker 3: too well, and she's.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Like really proud.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Now she's telling tell your grandparents, Oh, I'm in an
- 3:20Speaker 3: advanced chlair. I heard her tell another mother, you know, Oh, well,
- 3:29Speaker 3: I'm in the smart kid math class this year. No,
- 3:32Speaker 3: I mean, I'm like Diana, I want to go. I'm
- 3:37Speaker 3: scared that some other kids are going to like realize
- 3:40Speaker 3: and say, you know, and correct her and say, oh, no,
- 3:42Speaker 3: you know, I'm going to figure out that this is
- 3:45Speaker 3: not exactly what this class is and realize that maybe
- 3:50Speaker 3: I didn't tell her the truth. So I mean, I'm
- 3:54Speaker 3: probably not handling this the right way. But you know,
- 3:57Speaker 3: I think maybe I don't know if I could have
- 3:59Speaker 3: explained it different instead of completely making something.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Up to should have.
- 4:07Speaker 1: You're kind of locked in.
- 4:08Speaker 2: That's the Problemise like, now what do you do? Exactly
- 4:12Speaker 2: what do you do now that we're in this situation
- 4:15Speaker 2: that you are, well, she thinks she's Einstein, and that's
- 4:20Speaker 2: the opposite. I don't think you can do anything. And
- 4:22Speaker 2: now you have to just let it ride out. You
- 4:24Speaker 2: have to, if anything, you have a conversation with her
- 4:27Speaker 2: about going, hey, listen, some some people just I wouldn't
- 4:31Speaker 2: brag about anything. Let's talk about that, like, let's not
- 4:34Speaker 2: talk about what you're in and what other people aren't.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Let's just make other kids jealous.
- 4:40Speaker 2: No, don't say that. And then you curb that, and
- 4:46Speaker 2: then eventually she can just like maybe this is just
- 4:49Speaker 2: the excitement, or she'll forget that there's anything different about it,
- 4:52Speaker 2: and she'll just go to class and it is what
- 4:54Speaker 2: it is, all right too?
- 4:59Speaker 3: For your sake.
- 5:01Speaker 2: But you're doing the best you can as a mom.
- 5:03Speaker 2: You didn't do anything wrong. You might it might be
- 5:05Speaker 2: a little bit misguided. Yeah that's what we're saying.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yeah, misguided guided.
- 5:09Speaker 2: But thank you for confessing that. Yes, let us know
- 5:13Speaker 2: what happens though. Okay, trying to be a good parent,
- 5:17Speaker 2: that's all I'm trying to do. You know, Like we
- 5:18Speaker 2: were talking about earlier, my friend Matt, who is you know,
- 5:21Speaker 2: he took a different size bus to school, don't you
- 5:23Speaker 2: There's nothing wrong with the short bus. Yeah he did,
- 5:26Speaker 2: and that's fine. And his mom said, oh, it's because
- 5:31Speaker 2: it's faster, and that's that's what he believed, and that's
- 5:36Speaker 2: and I would always stick up for him, like, yeah, no,
- 5:37Speaker 2: it is fast with other kids in the bus stop,
- 5:39Speaker 2: you're the same bus stop. Well, Crystal messaged me and
- 5:42Speaker 2: she said she took that bus too to school and
- 5:44Speaker 2: her mom told her the same things.
- 5:47Speaker 3: People lost stops.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Yeah see it's yes, it's it's just an express bus. Yeah,
- 5:53Speaker 2: that's all it is. I mean, pooh, what to get
- 5:59Speaker 2: it together? Durty Less. There you go. We'll do it
- 6:01Speaker 2: again tomorrow morning at seven thirty seven point thirty. Don't
- 6:04Speaker 2: forget
