- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Bill Handle on demand from KF. I
- 0:04Speaker 1: am six forty.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Wouldn't you be depressed if you were in Congress?
- 0:14Speaker 3: That's what I thought.
- 0:16Speaker 2: I don't mean to make light of it, but.
- 0:17Speaker 4: No, I'm just I'm just depressed being on this show
- 0:19Speaker 4: much less than Congress.
- 0:21Speaker 5: So yeah, enough to leave for four months.
- 0:23Speaker 4: He's only in my dreams.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Come and now handle on the news, ladies and gentlemen,
- 0:31Speaker 1: here's Bill Handle.
- 0:34Speaker 4: It is a Thursday morning, July the second, tomorrow. Most
- 0:40Speaker 4: people are celebrating July fourth by taking Friday off as
- 0:43Speaker 4: I will, and that means that everybody else is still
- 0:46Speaker 4: going to work. I think, Amy, good morning, and are
- 0:49Speaker 4: you working tomorrow? Of course? Okay here, of course you do.
- 0:53Speaker 4: Neil of course fills in for me. Kno, you're working
- 0:56Speaker 4: because you always work. Will Are you working tomorrow?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Yes?
- 1:00Speaker 4: I am? And and am I the only one that
- 1:04Speaker 4: takes off this holiday or the friday before the holidays? Wow?
- 1:10Speaker 4: You know it's a food chain issue, don't you. Okay,
- 1:13Speaker 4: we do.
- 1:14Speaker 3: We're not fighting for you to stay.
- 1:16Speaker 4: No, I under can be buddy, say oh yeah, no, no,
- 1:19Speaker 4: you know you know what I do here is uh gee,
- 1:23Speaker 4: how come I can't get those kinds of breaks. And
- 1:26Speaker 4: I said, look at your contract. That's uh, you know,
- 1:30Speaker 4: I have something on the Favored Nation contract where if
- 1:34Speaker 4: anybody gets a raise that works even in the building,
- 1:37Speaker 4: I get a raised. Not happening. Yeah, that's true, that's true.
- 1:42Speaker 4: I haven't gotten I haven't got that's true. I haven't
- 1:45Speaker 4: gotten a raise in uh what probably five years? Eight years.
- 1:48Speaker 3: You know we're talking about money, right.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Yeah, we are talking about money. Yeah, okay, anyway, hello
- 1:54Speaker 4: to everybody. There's Ann and Will, Cole Schreiber and Neil
- 1:57Speaker 4: and Kono and Amy, the whole eight team is here. Will,
- 2:02Speaker 4: just a reference to you. I do run into people
- 2:05Speaker 4: that say, you really do make fun of Will's weight,
- 2:09Speaker 4: and I say, well, Neil is losing weight like crazy,
- 2:13Speaker 4: I am downist than as I've ever been, and looks great.
- 2:17Speaker 4: And Amy is a swelt and slender she always is,
- 2:21Speaker 4: and Cono is and what right, Yeah you do look great?
- 2:26Speaker 4: Yeah you look very good. Skinny and slender. Yeah everybody, No,
- 2:30Speaker 4: you're pretty skinny and slender. Well she didn't used to
- 2:35Speaker 4: be a tiny little thing. Oh stop it. Okay, So anyway,
- 2:40Speaker 4: I lost, but I make fun of Will, and Will
- 2:43Speaker 4: I have to give you some kudos seriously, and that
- 2:46Speaker 4: is you take it all with good grace, you appreciate
- 2:51Speaker 4: the humor and what I say to people working on
- 2:54Speaker 4: this show, you have to have skinistic because the rhinoceros,
- 2:58Speaker 4: which will does of course out the fact that he's
- 3:00Speaker 4: as big as a rhinoceros, but still you do have
- 3:06Speaker 4: thick skin and it is appreciated. You have made people cry.
- 3:11Speaker 4: I actually have. Yeah, I actually have made people cry,
- 3:15Speaker 4: and people.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Is very sensitive about it and people have serious.
- 3:20Speaker 4: People have actually left the show because you know, we
- 3:24Speaker 4: start with, as I've shared this before, anybody who's new
- 3:27Speaker 4: on the show or new to the building I'm introduced to,
- 3:31Speaker 4: I look at whoever it is and say, you're not
- 3:32Speaker 4: going to last a week, and then I walk away
- 3:35Speaker 4: nice and they get pretty visibly upset sometimes.
- 3:40Speaker 3: And wasn't that your wedding valves? You're not going to
- 3:44Speaker 3: last a week?
- 3:44Speaker 4: I do, Oh do I have? I have to share
- 3:47Speaker 4: with you a story which I'm going to do at
- 3:51Speaker 4: eight thirty, and a personal story having to be yesterday,
- 3:55Speaker 4: and the eight thirty topic is going to be chat
- 3:58Speaker 4: chat bots replacing theirs and there and I had a
- 4:03Speaker 4: meeting with my psychiatrist yesterday. Yes, I have a psychiatrist
- 4:07Speaker 4: only to keep my limicdal up, because that's the way
- 4:10Speaker 4: Kaiser works. If you have any kind of an anti
- 4:13Speaker 4: anxiety or any kind of any kind of drug like
- 4:18Speaker 4: prozac or whatever, psychiatrists have to deal with it. You know,
- 4:22Speaker 4: it's usually a fifteen minute conversation. Yeah it's fine, Yeah,
- 4:25Speaker 4: I'm fine, I'm fine. Yeah, yeah, nothing's changed. And then
- 4:28Speaker 4: it's a fifteen minute session. Yesterday, because I have a
- 4:32Speaker 4: new one because I moved to Orange County, I spent
- 4:35Speaker 4: forty minutes. I'm going to share with you that conversation
- 4:38Speaker 4: because that was actually fun, truly was Okay, what else
- 4:44Speaker 4: is going on? United States one again is now in
- 4:49Speaker 4: the top sixteen. Now, the United States is gonna have
- 4:52Speaker 4: a tough time because we're talking about some world class
- 4:55Speaker 4: teams or for Argentine it for example.
- 4:57Speaker 2: What let's have a little positivity here, show O.
- 5:01Speaker 4: The United States is positively going to have a very
- 5:03Speaker 4: very tough time because it is now up against teams
- 5:08Speaker 4: that are soul world class. It's going to be like
- 5:10Speaker 4: high school teams as against not just college teams, but
- 5:13Speaker 4: professional teams.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Do you even watch soccer, I do I have.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Last night, I didn't. I watch a few minutes of it.
- 5:20Speaker 4: I try to watch highlights because it is a long, long,
- 5:24Speaker 4: long game. The only thing I noticed about soccer is
- 5:27Speaker 4: you talk about athletes. These guys are athletes. I mean
- 5:31Speaker 4: they are running for an hour and a half. I
- 5:35Speaker 4: mean they don't stop moving, and it's just who it's
- 5:39Speaker 4: a tough one for them. I mean baseball you have
- 5:41Speaker 4: the innings. Football, you know, the defense is up, you're
- 5:44Speaker 4: on offense. You know basketball. Basketball is pretty tough and
- 5:50Speaker 4: certainly marathon running, you don't take too many breaks. That's
- 5:52Speaker 4: a couple of hours, all right. I think that's that's
- 5:56Speaker 4: it for the news. That's fit to print. Thing else
- 6:00Speaker 4: going on new Air Force one in the air Donald
- 6:03Speaker 4: Trump said it's the new greatest thing that ever has
- 6:07Speaker 4: ever happened in the Air Force. I think.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Gold leaf on seriously.
- 6:15Speaker 4: No, it is pure gold, not just yeah, they're not
- 6:21Speaker 4: just gold leaf, they mean they're the real thing.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Is a try that it says now even more Warner
- 6:28Speaker 3: on Air Force.
- 6:29Speaker 4: Buddy, Yeah, big picture of Donald Trump on the front
- 6:32Speaker 4: of it. And there's a little controversy. A matter of fact,
- 6:35Speaker 4: I have a story about that, and it's ILK at
- 6:40Speaker 4: seven twenty and that's conflicts of interest and we'll be
- 6:43Speaker 4: doing you know that. And then of course fireworks story
- 6:45Speaker 4: coming up at seven o'clock because you can't miss firework
- 6:47Speaker 4: stories and not on this weekend. Okay, guys, let's do it.
- 6:51Speaker 4: It's time for Handle on the news on this Thursday morning,
- 6:55Speaker 4: July two, and it is time for Amy Neil and
- 6:59Speaker 4: Me lead story age trips due to trap. Here's another
- 7:04Speaker 4: reversal for the president who he signed the US Mexico
- 7:11Speaker 4: Canada trade deal in twenty eighteen, throwing away the old
- 7:15Speaker 4: one and so okay, that's set up. He pulls up.
- 7:20Speaker 4: He ends up pulling the plug on the old one
- 7:23Speaker 4: and now is going to sign the new one. He
- 7:26Speaker 4: did sign it in twenty eighteen, and now he's pulling
- 7:29Speaker 4: the plug on that. And the problem is that this
- 7:34Speaker 4: was considered a stabilizing force for North America trade and
- 7:39Speaker 4: he has just yanked it. And what he has the
- 7:42Speaker 4: tendency to do, and a lot of people say that's
- 7:46Speaker 4: one of his positive points. A lot of others say
- 7:48Speaker 4: this negative points is no one knows day to day
- 7:52Speaker 4: what he's going to do. Nobody knows there's even been
- 7:55Speaker 4: a signing ceremony that he canceled the last minute. You
- 7:59Speaker 4: could actually see the table being carted away and everybody
- 8:03Speaker 4: was on the way to the signing ceremony. He just
- 8:05Speaker 4: arbitrarily had just canceled it because a bill he wanted
- 8:09Speaker 4: through didn't get through, and he said, I ain't signing
- 8:15Speaker 4: that has to do with it. He wants that America
- 8:17Speaker 4: save Act. Oh, the the change in election in voting requirements,
- 8:25Speaker 4: So no one knows what's happening there. No one knows.
- 8:30Speaker 4: When he signed it in twenty eighteen, he said that
- 8:35Speaker 4: it was the best, the best and most important deal
- 8:38Speaker 4: ever made by the USA, And now it's been yanked.
- 8:43Speaker 4: At this point, we don't know why, but we'll we'll
- 8:45Speaker 4: find out. Considered one of the few remaining pillars of
- 8:52Speaker 4: stability in the world of global trade in the US,
- 8:58Speaker 4: no surprises, no surprise about surprise.
- 9:02Speaker 2: We got a sex trafficking takedown.
- 9:06Speaker 6: Nine people have been arrested in what officials have described
- 9:10Speaker 6: as the latest effort to dismantle sex trafficking operations along
- 9:14Speaker 6: the notorious Figueroa Corridor in South LA. First Assistant US
- 9:20Speaker 6: Attorney Bill A. Saley says they targeted human trafficking, where
- 9:25Speaker 6: girls as young as fourteen are being sold for sex.
- 9:28Speaker 6: He said the case involved high school freshmen too young
- 9:31Speaker 6: to drive but who were forced into cars to have
- 9:33Speaker 6: sex with strangers for money. Among those arrested were members
- 9:38Speaker 6: and associates of the Hoover Criminals gang and a hotel
- 9:43Speaker 6: operator in South LA who apparently kind of turned a
- 9:45Speaker 6: blind eye didn't really care when he saw the juveniles
- 9:48Speaker 6: headed in for work.
- 9:51Speaker 4: Amy, You've been a newsperson for a long time. Have
- 9:54Speaker 4: you noted that these stories of sex trafficking and people
- 9:57Speaker 4: involved have increased pretty dramatically. Is that as a result
- 10:02Speaker 4: of just the reporting as opposed to just not reporting
- 10:05Speaker 4: in the years past.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Again, that's one of those subjective things. You don't know.
- 10:10Speaker 6: It's like the weather. Is the weather worse or is
- 10:13Speaker 6: it because we're reporting on it more? But we do
- 10:16Speaker 6: hear more about it. And I was actually thinking about
- 10:18Speaker 6: this the other day. I'm thinking I've heard a lot more.
- 10:20Speaker 6: It seems like Bill A. Saley is just going to
- 10:23Speaker 6: town to crack down on stuff. It seems like there
- 10:26Speaker 6: have been a lot of criminal investigations that are coming
- 10:30Speaker 6: to light because of He's just aggressively pursuing prosecution.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think anybody. I don't think anybody complains
- 10:37Speaker 4: about going after alleged sex offenders or not even alleged
- 10:41Speaker 4: sex offenders. This is where the Department of Justice, I
- 10:45Speaker 4: believe that is, and it could very well be more
- 10:49Speaker 4: aggressive than previous departments or parts of DJ. It's the
- 10:54Speaker 4: other parts that I think people have a problem with. Okay,
- 10:57Speaker 4: So we were hearing.
- 10:58Speaker 5: Stories about a Republican set by Republican Senator Mitch McConnell
- 11:04Speaker 5: being hospitalized last month. Well we found out more and
- 11:08Speaker 5: more because we have audio from the EMS dispatch call.
- 11:13Speaker 5: So the medical personnel went to his home, responded to
- 11:17Speaker 5: an unconscious person. His name was never brought up, but
- 11:20Speaker 5: appeared to be experiencing cardiac cardiac arrest and during the
- 11:25Speaker 5: recording that you hear the dispatcher call it cardiac arrest
- 11:29Speaker 5: and then said something along the lines of CPR in progress.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Again. This was on June fourteenth, nine am.
- 11:38Speaker 5: The senator's name was not mentioned during the call, but
- 11:42Speaker 5: the audio was leaked and that's what we hear from
- 11:46Speaker 5: it now. Of course, his the statements coming out of
- 11:50Speaker 5: his team was that he was hospitalized receiving excellent care.
- 11:56Speaker 4: But remember when I was it last year where where
- 12:00Speaker 4: he was at the podium and was asked a question
- 12:03Speaker 4: by reporters and he just stared off in the distance,
- 12:07Speaker 4: zoned off, and he zoned out, and he couldn't answer
- 12:10Speaker 4: the question. And his aide, his staff gently put him
- 12:13Speaker 4: aside and said, we'll see you later and no more
- 12:15Speaker 4: questions please.
- 12:17Speaker 3: On this show.
- 12:17Speaker 4: We called that a Tuesday. That's very well said. He
- 12:21Speaker 4: is no youngster, he's what eighty four and he's still
- 12:24Speaker 4: a center a polio survivor too, right, Yes, yes, wow.
- 12:33Speaker 6: ESPN is getting closer to the action. ESPN is pulling
- 12:37Speaker 6: up stakes from downtown LA and headed to the NFL's
- 12:40Speaker 6: headquarters at Hollywood Park in Inglewood. ESPN produced the NBA
- 12:45Speaker 6: Today show WNBA Countdown out of the LA Live location,
- 12:49Speaker 6: which opened back in two thousand and nine, and then
- 12:52Speaker 6: a late night edition of Sports Center was produced there
- 12:55Speaker 6: until last year. Well, the productions are all going to
- 12:57Speaker 6: move into the NFL's LA headquarters near so Far Stadium, and.
- 13:01Speaker 4: They're going to carry the Super Bowl. I believe that
- 13:04Speaker 4: ESPN for the first time. It used to be, it
- 13:09Speaker 4: used to be that one network covered everything. They would
- 13:13Speaker 4: have a contract with the NFL. Let's say NBC, which
- 13:17Speaker 4: means every game was broadcast on NBC, and then the
- 13:21Speaker 4: Super Bowl was Then they broke that apart. Super Bowl
- 13:24Speaker 4: sold differently, and now they broke apart the games themselves,
- 13:28Speaker 4: where people bid, where organizations bid on certain games, and
- 13:33Speaker 4: voy did the NFL benefit from that to the tune
- 13:35Speaker 4: of billions.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Of dollars a year. But it's not a monopoly.
- 13:40Speaker 4: The NFL certainly is not a monopoly, right the National
- 13:44Speaker 4: what let me see, there's a National Football League and
- 13:47Speaker 4: then you know what competes with the National Football League.
- 13:52Speaker 4: My high school football team competes because certainly no other
- 13:57Speaker 4: pro football games were allowed. It's a monopoly. Okay.
- 14:02Speaker 5: So we went from Amy's story about sexual sex trafficking breakdowns,
- 14:09Speaker 5: and now we go to the weirdest thing in the
- 14:12Speaker 5: entire world. California Democratic senators failed to advance a proposal
- 14:18Speaker 5: Tuesday that would have barred registered sex offenders from running
- 14:22Speaker 5: for office.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Who who wants this?
- 14:29Speaker 4: Who voted no? I mean, who wants this? How about this?
- 14:33Speaker 4: Where was it? On May seventh, on the floor of
- 14:37Speaker 4: the Assembly, voted sixty to zero in favor of this
- 14:44Speaker 4: bill and it says a sex offenders, convicted sex offenders
- 14:47Speaker 4: cannot run for office. And now it died.
- 14:52Speaker 5: I mean, who's shutting that down though? Who's saying, yeah,
- 14:56Speaker 5: I want sex offenders to be able to run for office.
- 14:59Speaker 5: I mean it's a redundant.
- 15:00Speaker 6: But Scott Wiener voted against it, right well, Tom Umberg
- 15:04Speaker 6: from Santa Anna and Santa Monica's Ben Allen abstained from
- 15:08Speaker 6: a vote.
- 15:10Speaker 2: And it was in a committee.
- 15:11Speaker 6: It wasn't for the full Senate, so it was five
- 15:13Speaker 6: people looking at it and it failed on a two
- 15:15Speaker 6: to one to two margin.
- 15:19Speaker 4: Well, there was a vote that I said, sixty to zero,
- 15:22Speaker 4: but it wasn't a binding vote on the bill itself.
- 15:24Speaker 4: I think it may have been a resolution. And I
- 15:27Speaker 4: don't know the answer to that, but it's you would think,
- 15:29Speaker 4: how how do you say no to this? How do
- 15:31Speaker 4: you say no to the concept that's convicted sex offenders,
- 15:36Speaker 4: those that are put on the sex registry cannot run
- 15:39Speaker 4: for office. Boy, that's a problem, isn't it. Of course,
- 15:43Speaker 4: that's exactly what or they've done. They've paid their debt
- 15:48Speaker 4: to society.
- 15:49Speaker 5: If LA is going to push you know, well, illegal
- 15:52Speaker 5: immigrants to pay taxes. We've got a trim vote.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Oh here's a story that was covered all over the place.
- 15:59Speaker 4: I mean, Amy, were you going to say something?
- 16:01Speaker 1: Oh?
- 16:01Speaker 6: I was just going to do a clarification that it
- 16:03Speaker 6: passed sixty to nothing in the State Assembly and then
- 16:07Speaker 6: in the Senate committee as where it failed to advance.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Okay, thank you for making that a little bit more specific.
- 16:14Speaker 6: Maybe the most watched proposal ever and most gut wrenching.
- 16:18Speaker 6: Oh my god, Neil, can you believe that we repelled
- 16:21Speaker 6: twenty six stories down a building. I was watching this
- 16:23Speaker 6: thinking about these guys who climbed to the top of
- 16:27Speaker 6: the Empire State Building, to the very tippy top of
- 16:30Speaker 6: the transmitter, hung out, hung a flag. They put a
- 16:35Speaker 6: pro piece banner saying, when the power of love beats
- 16:39Speaker 6: the love of power, the world knows peace. Nice message, right,
- 16:42Speaker 6: But they hung out there for a while and the
- 16:46Speaker 6: choppers started buzzing around. CNN had a fox, had at
- 16:49Speaker 6: the local TV stations had it.
- 16:51Speaker 2: It was everywhere.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Oh yeah, this became national news. Matter of fact, with
- 16:54Speaker 4: the lead story in a lot of news outlets.
- 16:57Speaker 3: I would have gotten a red biplane guns on it.
- 17:01Speaker 4: That's true. A little bit of King call interestingly enough
- 17:05Speaker 4: about this couple. I mean, they are stunt people and
- 17:08Speaker 4: they've done a few stunts, and clearly they were doing
- 17:11Speaker 4: this for attention and they got it. But climbing up
- 17:14Speaker 4: to the top of the sphere itself, on the top
- 17:17Speaker 4: of the platform, that little the broadcast tower, little thing,
- 17:23Speaker 4: I can see that because they're holding onto the ladder.
- 17:26Speaker 4: Now a few feet under that is this platform that
- 17:31Speaker 4: is surrounded as you can actually stand on it. And
- 17:34Speaker 4: they're standing on this platform. They're not connected in any way,
- 17:38Speaker 4: there are no safety harnesses, and they have incredible balance,
- 17:42Speaker 4: you can see that. But the wind is blowing. I mean,
- 17:46Speaker 4: you can have all the balance in the world, but
- 17:47Speaker 4: I mean the wind has to be blowing at forty
- 17:49Speaker 4: fifty miles an hour up there. Oh.
- 17:51Speaker 3: It just makes my knees buckle, I know.
- 17:54Speaker 6: Right, I just get a pit in my stomach. Even
- 17:56Speaker 6: thinking about it and watching it yesterday, I thought I
- 17:58Speaker 6: was going to.
- 17:59Speaker 4: I didn't think it. I didn't think it was that entertaining.
- 18:01Speaker 4: They had they been blown off and fallen off of
- 18:05Speaker 4: the building, that would have been entertaining, but it turned
- 18:08Speaker 4: out to be that they got down. They were arrested,
- 18:10Speaker 4: charged with a bunch of stuff, and they.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Made a name for themselves, and they got engaged, and.
- 18:16Speaker 4: They got engaged up there too.
- 18:17Speaker 6: Yeah, he got down on one knee and proposed, and
- 18:19Speaker 6: then she was doing selfies with the ring and the
- 18:22Speaker 6: skyline in the background.
- 18:24Speaker 4: They were dressed in black and had black masks on.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I think they had batman and catwoman masks or something.
- 18:31Speaker 4: Really really strange.
- 18:32Speaker 3: What a horrific story.
- 18:34Speaker 5: A year ago, he had a tree branch, large tree
- 18:37Speaker 5: branch about twenty five thirty feet long, fall on campers
- 18:41Speaker 5: underneath that. This was a youth Calabasis summer camp, and
- 18:46Speaker 5: it killed an eight year old camper. The child family,
- 18:50Speaker 5: the child's family has reached a nineteen point three million
- 18:54Speaker 5: dollars settlement, which I'm sure means piss when you lose
- 18:58Speaker 5: your child. But this was with local public agencies. You
- 19:02Speaker 5: have the camp landscaping company, all kinds of different people
- 19:07Speaker 5: that were involved that weren't looking out there at the
- 19:12Speaker 5: Mountain Recreation and Conservation Authority according to this settlement.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Yeah, this typically is and I talk about this on
- 19:21Speaker 4: handle of the law on Saturday morning. Whenever something like
- 19:24Speaker 4: this a serious death or an injury, I've asked who
- 19:30Speaker 4: do we sue everybody, anybody even peripherally connected lawsuit here.
- 19:35Speaker 4: They settled with several different city the Calabasas, the Arborius,
- 19:42Speaker 4: the people that maintain off for the city independence to
- 19:45Speaker 4: come in there. It's just that's what ends up happening.
- 19:47Speaker 4: And so you're right, and the others too. They all
- 19:53Speaker 4: have and they all have lawsuits going. So city Calabasa
- 19:58Speaker 4: pretty badly here. Okay, good news Amy go.
- 20:05Speaker 3: Wow, great sister.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 6: With a massive crowd chanting USA USA, Team USA has
- 20:12Speaker 6: defeated Bosnia Herzekovinia two to one or No.
- 20:16Speaker 4: No.
- 20:16Speaker 6: Two to one, two nil in World Cup action at
- 20:19Speaker 6: Levi Stadium. It's the first win for the American men
- 20:23Speaker 6: in the knockout round of the World Cup since two
- 20:25Speaker 6: thousand and two. So now the US advances to the
- 20:28Speaker 6: round of sixteen. They'll face Belgium on Monday in Seattle.
- 20:34Speaker 4: Yeah. And now we're talking world class teams. Yeah.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Now you know what though, So Germany got unseated by Paraguay.
- 20:43Speaker 2: That's true, and Germany was a top seeded team, that's true,
- 20:46Speaker 2: I think.
- 20:46Speaker 4: But well, Paraguay and Germany are really closely connected because
- 20:50Speaker 4: half the Nazis after world War two went to Paraguay.
- 20:53Speaker 4: I don't know if you knew that a little bit
- 20:56Speaker 4: of history. Well that's actually true.
- 20:59Speaker 3: By the way, Amy what they thought it was paragoys?
- 21:03Speaker 4: Yes, true, pair of them, Yes.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Yes, anyone, yueler no, okay.
- 21:13Speaker 5: Nineteen year old woman is among three people who have
- 21:16Speaker 5: died from suffocation during World Cup celebrations in Mexico City
- 21:20Speaker 5: on Tuesday. So you have a nineteen year old woman.
- 21:23Speaker 5: You have a forty eight year old woman and a
- 21:25Speaker 5: forty four year old man also died after crowds descended
- 21:29Speaker 5: on the city following the country's to Neil Nil victory
- 21:34Speaker 5: Neil over, Ecuador, said their local health authority there. I
- 21:42Speaker 5: was telling Kno the other day, I don't even have
- 21:44Speaker 5: to watch. I was working at my computer. The minute
- 21:49Speaker 5: I started hearing explosives. I'm like, honey, Mexico won.
- 21:55Speaker 4: You know what, here's my question. You would think that
- 21:59Speaker 4: the people who were celebrating in Mexico would have held
- 22:03Speaker 4: off suffocating three people just because they went to the
- 22:09Speaker 4: next round. I can see a bunch of people dying
- 22:11Speaker 4: of suffocation at the end of it when you win
- 22:13Speaker 4: the World Cup. I get that. Okay, let's go ahead
- 22:15Speaker 4: and crush some people at death. But this is only
- 22:18Speaker 4: to the next round, and so can you can you
- 22:21Speaker 4: imagine what it's going to be like if Mexico moves
- 22:25Speaker 4: ahead of the to the next round after this and
- 22:28Speaker 4: makes the finals.
- 22:29Speaker 5: Oh, man, I bet you there's no morning show host
- 22:33Speaker 5: in Mexico right now going. Well, let's look at it.
- 22:37Speaker 5: It's going to be harder from here on out. Yeah,
- 22:40Speaker 5: Like Bill the Great American, they're going, We're gonna.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Take it all.
- 22:47Speaker 6: California is going the way of the Dragon. Governor Newsom
- 22:52Speaker 6: assigned a law officially designating May seventeenth as Bruce Lee Day.
- 22:59Speaker 6: Bruce Lee was in San Francisco. He'll become the first
- 23:01Speaker 6: Chinese American in California history with an annual namesake day.
- 23:06Speaker 6: State Assembly Member Matt Haney called Lee the epitome of
- 23:10Speaker 6: the best of California. He said, at a time when
- 23:12Speaker 6: Asian Americans were too often absent from or stereotyped on screen,
- 23:17Speaker 6: Bruce Lee helped generations see themselves represented with strength and dignity.
- 23:22Speaker 4: He was he was in extraordinary shape. He had to
- 23:25Speaker 4: be one of the most fit people I've ever seen,
- 23:28Speaker 4: and the kind of stunts that he did. I think
- 23:31Speaker 4: he did all of his own stunts, that all the fighting.
- 23:34Speaker 4: You couldn't yet there was nobody that could look over him,
- 23:38Speaker 4: and he ended up he ended up dying, which was
- 23:40Speaker 4: really shocker. Remember he died when Wow, Bruce Lee died.
- 23:42Speaker 4: It turned out to be an allergic reaction to pain medication.
- 23:46Speaker 5: Wow, here's this was not go ahead, A strange fact
- 23:50Speaker 5: build that I don't know that you know. Do you
- 23:53Speaker 5: remember back in the TV series Kung Fu, Yes, David Chardine, Yeah,
- 23:58Speaker 5: that was that was suppose used to be Bruce Lee,
- 24:02Speaker 5: but they didn't think that people would tune in every
- 24:05Speaker 5: week to an Asian person, so they got a white
- 24:09Speaker 5: guy to play an Asian person on Kung Fu and
- 24:12Speaker 5: that insane.
- 24:14Speaker 4: Yeah, that's most are the days though, Yeah, those were
- 24:17Speaker 4: the days. Well look at what movies and TV were
- 24:21Speaker 4: like back in the day when you you'd have these characters,
- 24:24Speaker 4: these Asian characters, all you just make fun of them.
- 24:27Speaker 4: They speak pigeon English and they were breakfast Tiffany's yeah.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Danny no, yeah, Mickey Rooney, Mickey Rooney.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Yeah crap.
- 24:42Speaker 4: Yeah, well those are days you get away with it.
- 24:43Speaker 4: So anyway, Bruce Lee day Originally they were going to
- 24:46Speaker 4: call it Allergy Day and that didn't work out, so
- 24:50Speaker 4: I wish I why don't take it.
- 24:51Speaker 3: I'm might to do a seance so we could come
- 24:52Speaker 3: back and kick your ass.
- 24:54Speaker 4: Oh yeah, that would work. I would just mention your
- 24:59Speaker 4: name and say no, no, you got the wrong guy. Okay,
- 25:02Speaker 4: coming up another story, and there's actually as horrific as
- 25:06Speaker 4: this sounds, I want to bring something up that I
- 25:08Speaker 4: think is if you can argue that there's something good
- 25:12Speaker 4: out of this, I'm going to make that. I'm going
- 25:16Speaker 4: to make give you that position.
- 25:18Speaker 3: This is some sad news. I'm a fan.
- 25:20Speaker 5: Danny Glover, famed actor you know from Lethal Weapons series
- 25:25Speaker 5: and you know tons more, told the Today Show that
- 25:29Speaker 5: at seventy nine, he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
- 25:35Speaker 5: And he said that he's been living with the disease
- 25:39Speaker 5: for several years and that it has slow to speech,
- 25:43Speaker 5: certain movements, memories, and he said, in a sense he
- 25:48Speaker 5: could live with it, but it progresses.
- 25:51Speaker 4: Now to the point I made before we went to
- 25:54Speaker 4: break about where's the positive part of this? Have you
- 25:57Speaker 4: noticed that these very high profile people have gone public
- 26:02Speaker 4: with their Alzheimer's and dementia and mental illness, and that
- 26:07Speaker 4: is they used to keep it very very quiet. It's
- 26:10Speaker 4: not something you shared with the public, and now they've
- 26:12Speaker 4: gone the other way. Michael phelps with his mental issues
- 26:16Speaker 4: with his you know, mental problems that he has, as
- 26:19Speaker 4: well as Bruce Willis the family. Bruce Willis has a
- 26:22Speaker 4: very severe case of dementia due to somewhever disease. But
- 26:27Speaker 4: I think that is the good news that these people
- 26:30Speaker 4: are saying, hey, I have it, do not have this
- 26:33Speaker 4: stigma attached to it. You know, it can happen to you.
- 26:35Speaker 4: It's good. I think that's a good point. Not for
- 26:37Speaker 4: obviously Danny govern his family, but big.
- 26:39Speaker 6: Picture pickles are harder to come by now at the
- 26:46Speaker 6: American State Fair because the mount Olive Pickle Company has
- 26:52Speaker 6: withdrawn from the exhibit it was participating in. They were
- 26:56Speaker 6: invited to participate in North Carolina's exhibit. North Carolina was
- 27:00Speaker 6: one of several states that said they wouldn't be attending
- 27:02Speaker 6: because of budget constraints, but they were still represented at
- 27:07Speaker 6: the sixteen day event after companies in the states stepped up.
- 27:11Speaker 6: So there's a video playing in the exhibit for North
- 27:16Speaker 6: Carolina and it has a Confederate flag in it. The
- 27:19Speaker 6: mount Olive Pickle Company said they were unaware of that
- 27:21Speaker 6: image being used and have now pulled out of the display.
- 27:26Speaker 4: Yeah. My question is to how is it to displayed.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Are we talking about historical contexts that this was part
- 27:33Speaker 4: of the Confederacy and the flag is there? Or is
- 27:37Speaker 4: it somehow purport to put the flag and the Confederacy
- 27:44Speaker 4: in such a way as that describes it as something positive.
- 27:47Speaker 4: I don't know under what circumstances. All right, no potato chips,
- 27:55Speaker 4: you're going to die?
- 27:56Speaker 3: Well you could.
- 27:58Speaker 5: The FDA has raised a potato chip recall. It upgraded
- 28:02Speaker 5: it to risk level over Salmonila concerns. That means this
- 28:07Speaker 5: is the most serious risk level that they have.
- 28:10Speaker 3: And this is.
- 28:12Speaker 5: From the Utz Quality Foods Company. And we don't have them.
- 28:18Speaker 5: I don't think we have much of them here.
- 28:20Speaker 4: No, we don't.
- 28:21Speaker 5: Some places have them, of course, but this is the
- 28:25Speaker 5: Zapp's brand and Dirty brand that come out of that
- 28:30Speaker 5: same company. So check the recall, check the pages and
- 28:35Speaker 5: make sure you don't have any in your pantry or something.
- 28:38Speaker 4: Yeah, particularly the Bayou Black and Ranch potato chip. Never
- 28:44Speaker 4: even heard of that, But.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Okay, looking for a job, good luck.
- 28:53Speaker 6: There were predictions from the Labor Department that the jobs report,
- 28:56Speaker 6: which was just released this morning was going to be
- 28:57Speaker 6: a pretty decent one and would show one hundred and
- 29:00Speaker 6: ten thousand jobs were added in June, and that the
- 29:03Speaker 6: unemployment rate would hold steady. But those numbers were released
- 29:06Speaker 6: this morning and only fifty seven thousand jobs were added,
- 29:10Speaker 6: so about half what they were predicting. The jobless rate
- 29:13Speaker 6: did kick click down to four point two percent.
- 29:17Speaker 4: Oh yeah, you can't pay attention to the unemployment rate
- 29:22Speaker 4: four point two four point one five percent because it
- 29:25Speaker 4: doesn't take into account how many people are actually looking
- 29:28Speaker 4: for work. Because if someone has been unemployed and they
- 29:31Speaker 4: no longer can find work, they're no longer unemployed. They
- 29:34Speaker 4: just don't exist anymore as.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Far as labor.
- 29:37Speaker 5: I had this argument on the air when you were
- 29:39Speaker 5: saying that Biden brought it down to four point two,
- 29:42Speaker 5: and I said, you can't take that into account because
- 29:44Speaker 5: we don't know how many people.
- 29:47Speaker 4: Have I didn't take that. I didn't take that position.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Yeah, we got in an argument no my studio one day.
- 29:53Speaker 4: We argued, okay, let's argue about whether I took that
- 29:56Speaker 4: position or not.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Oh boy, I many have.
- 29:59Speaker 4: I don't know my okay, I'm going to go public.
- 30:01Speaker 5: Okay, now, I hope we're going to public abouts.
- 30:05Speaker 4: That's exactly what I'm going to do. Early on set,
- 30:08Speaker 4: dementia has hit this show, and I'm absolutely thrilled that
- 30:14Speaker 4: Neil has the guts that he could go forward with that.
- 30:19Speaker 4: It's that announcement.
- 30:21Speaker 3: Very good.
- 30:22Speaker 4: We're done, guys, that's it coming up. But July fourth,
- 30:26Speaker 4: of course, is this weekend. Boy, there a fireworks show
- 30:32Speaker 4: going on on a bunch of different levels. We've got
- 30:35Speaker 4: some fireworks. I'll explain that when we come back. Kf
- 30:38Speaker 4: I am six. You've been listening to the Bill Handle Show.
- 30:42Speaker 4: Catch My Show Monday through Friday, six am to nine am,
- 30:45Speaker 4: and anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
