- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Not So Fast with Andrew Perloff and Paul Pabst,
- 0:05Speaker 1: where two longtime friends challenge each other on the biggest
- 0:08Speaker 1: sports stories of the day.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Here's Andrew Perloff and Paul Pabst. Not so fast, my friends.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Welcome to Not So Fast. I'm Andrew Perloff. He is
- 0:20Speaker 2: Paul Paps. Thank you, Marvin, for the wonderful throw to
- 0:22Speaker 2: our show. Paul, we couldn't be more excited. It's fall
- 0:25Speaker 2: and all the sports are happening.
- 0:27Speaker 3: It's sports fan heaven. Baseball playoffs are coming up. Big
- 0:30Speaker 3: slate of college football. Of course, the NFL all weekend.
- 0:32Speaker 3: There's hockey coming up. We have everything. We have warm
- 0:35Speaker 3: takes on the Cubs and the White Sox. You have
- 0:37Speaker 3: a warm take on your darling of the NFL, which
- 0:39Speaker 3: I don't even know what it is yet. and the
- 0:41Speaker 3: huge college football weekend with Paul Burmeister of NBC Sports.
- 0:43Speaker 3: But where are we starting, Pearl?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Well, got to go to last night, a game that
- 0:47Speaker 2: we all saw coming, right? Atlanta beats Green Bay 35-14,
- 0:51Speaker 2: throwing out two weeks of bad takes ripping the Falcons.
- 0:54Speaker 2: We'll get to it in a second. Somebody had positive
- 0:56Speaker 2: things to say about Atlanta. But you have to admit, Paul,
- 0:59Speaker 2: you did not see that coming.
- 1:01Speaker 3: I think about, imagine you hadn't watched any NFL this
- 1:03Speaker 3: year and just tuned in and say, I'm going to
- 1:04Speaker 3: watch the Falcons versus the Packers and see what these
- 1:06Speaker 3: teams are about. And if you didn't know that the
- 1:08Speaker 3: Falcons the past two weeks were were beyond brutal. They
- 1:11Speaker 3: hadn't been in the red zone, which seems impossible, but
- 1:13Speaker 3: they did it last night. They did it with Bijan Robinson,
- 1:16Speaker 3: 194 yards and two touchdowns. Not a surprise because he's awesome,
- 1:20Speaker 3: and the Packers haven't stopped anybody. Then you have Michael Penix.
- 1:23Speaker 3: That first play or first drive where he throws that interception,
- 1:26Speaker 3: what were you thinking?
- 1:27Speaker 2: I was thinking, this is not looking good for my
- 1:29Speaker 2: man Michael Penix, but I did see Bijan Robinson on
- 1:33Speaker 2: his first and second run he was not going down
- 1:36Speaker 2: on the first tackle. It dawned on me, Green Bay
- 1:38Speaker 2: can't tackle this dude. But we've seen Atlanta have good
- 1:42Speaker 2: Bijan games and still not win. So I still didn't think,
- 1:45Speaker 2: even with Bijan Robinson running for all over the place
- 1:47Speaker 2: in the first quarter, I said, it's Atlanta. They're not
- 1:50Speaker 2: going to get consistent passing. And then what happened?
- 1:52Speaker 3: Well, Pennix just took over and he found his favorite guy,
- 1:54Speaker 3: beyond his favorite guy, Drake London. Really good wide receiver.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Not really a national TV guy where you're like, oh,
- 2:00Speaker 3: he's Justin Jefferson. But in the last few games... Nine targets,
- 2:04Speaker 3: ten targets last night, nine for 194 for Drake London.
- 2:08Speaker 3: The last couple times he's played with Michael Penix, seven catches,
- 2:11Speaker 3: six catches, nine catches, ten catches. He loves him some
- 2:15Speaker 3: Drake London.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Okay, so I think we were going to save this
- 2:18Speaker 2: for later, but on yesterday's show, you had what I
- 2:20Speaker 2: considered a crazy take. I'm not going to lie to you.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Oh, I thought I was going to call for this
- 2:24Speaker 3: in a self-serving manner. You want to pull the button?
- 2:25Speaker 2: I want to call for it because yesterday we were
- 2:27Speaker 2: debating which 0-2 team has the best shot of making
- 2:30Speaker 2: the playoffs. And you said what I thought was totally bizarre.
- 2:33Speaker 2: I don't know if we have it ready to go.
- 2:35Speaker 2: But you picked this team to make the playoffs.
- 2:39Speaker 3: I begrudgingly am going with the Falcons.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Here's why.
- 2:41Speaker 3: They stunk up the joint. I mean the joint being
- 2:43Speaker 3: Earth the first couple weeks of the season. Yeah, and
- 2:47Speaker 3: I think the reason I picked them, because we kind
- 2:49Speaker 3: of had to pick an 0-2 team, I never think
- 2:51Speaker 3: a team is as bad as they look in weeks
- 2:53Speaker 3: 1 and 2. And what happens is in week 4,
- 2:55Speaker 3: you're like, I don't remember what happened in week 1
- 2:58Speaker 3: and 2, but it's hot take season. So people thought
- 3:00Speaker 3: that the Falcons were going to be the worst team
- 3:02Speaker 3: in the league. I just think they have too much
- 3:03Speaker 3: offensive talent. They were playing with two third-string quarterbacks the
- 3:07Speaker 3: past two weeks. Now they have a real quarterback who's
- 3:09Speaker 3: just getting his legs under. I mean, they lost 34-3
- 3:11Speaker 3: to Carolina.
- 3:12Speaker 2: They got three points. Does a quarterback, does Michael Panix
- 3:17Speaker 2: coming off an injury and looking rusty make that much
- 3:19Speaker 2: of a difference? I don't think there's any logic that
- 3:20Speaker 2: explains what happened last night.
- 3:22Speaker 3: So now we have to pivot. So you think the
- 3:24Speaker 3: Falcons are okay, and in that division, they're okay. One
- 3:27Speaker 3: and two, you're right back in the thick of things.
- 3:29Speaker 2: No, but wait, by the way. The Falcons schedule gets
- 3:31Speaker 2: crazy hard. They get the Saints next week on Monday night,
- 3:34Speaker 2: a game we were complaining about, now is a must-watch.
- 3:37Speaker 2: They have the Ravens, the Bears, the Niners, the Chiefs,
- 3:41Speaker 2: and the Bengals.
- 3:42Speaker 3: So you're reality-checking the Falcons.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I'm saying by the bye week, they're going to be
- 3:45Speaker 2: out of it. And I am not buying you they
- 3:47Speaker 2: make the playoffs. I like the Saints and the Panthers
- 3:49Speaker 2: more in this division. Come on, Paul. I know you
- 3:51Speaker 2: can beat a beat-up Green Bay team, but you really
- 3:54Speaker 2: think Atlanta is going to survive this gauntlet?
- 3:56Speaker 3: I'm going to counter your break-pumping with this. The defense
- 3:59Speaker 3: for Atlanta, they hit Jordan Love 12 times yesterday, and
- 4:02Speaker 3: they protected Michael Penix. B. John Robinson looked fantastic. Look,
- 4:06Speaker 3: I don't think that the Falcons are contenders or even contender-ish,
- 4:09Speaker 3: a term we use on this show. But in that division,
- 4:12Speaker 3: they can get right back in this.
- 4:13Speaker 2: If I could, it would be an 8-9 to make
- 4:15Speaker 2: the playoffs.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Now, should we get to the bad side of this game?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the key reason Atlanta looked good last night,
- 4:19Speaker 2: to me, was Green Bay.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Yeah, Green Bay came in, a pressure game. They escaped
- 4:24Speaker 3: the Jets last week, Green Bay. Week one, they were terrible,
- 4:27Speaker 3: Green Bay. They're not protecting Jordan Love. They're not running
- 4:30Speaker 3: the ball. No Josh Jacobs. And they were even worse
- 4:32Speaker 3: last night. They had 17 rushing yards. Bijan had three
- 4:36Speaker 3: runs over 17 yards himself last night. That was brutal.
- 4:39Speaker 3: That was a no-show. That was national TV, too, so
- 4:42Speaker 3: it becomes a referendum on the Packers.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I think it goes even deeper. Obviously, the O-line was
- 4:47Speaker 2: just awful. The run game has been awful without Josh Jacobs.
- 4:50Speaker 2: There were a couple key drops. Here's the biggest problem.
- 4:54Speaker 2: It looked like they gave up in this game, Paul.
- 4:56Speaker 2: And who's that on? That's on head coach Matt LaFleur.
- 4:59Speaker 2: I have a question. Have they given up on Matt
- 5:00Speaker 2: LaFleur globally? Because they haven't really looked great in any week.
- 5:04Speaker 2: I know they came in 1-1 with that win over
- 5:06Speaker 2: the Jets. I feel like Matt LaFleur, if he didn't
- 5:09Speaker 2: just sign a contract and you had a different team,
- 5:11Speaker 2: he'd be the first coach on the hot seat.
- 5:13Speaker 3: You know, I look at the Packers as not a
- 5:14Speaker 3: reactionary franchise. They have the board of directors. The fans
- 5:18Speaker 3: kind of own the team. I don't see them as
- 5:20Speaker 3: a midseason firing type of team. They don't feel that way.
- 5:23Speaker 3: But the fans are upset, and this goes back to
- 5:25Speaker 3: last year, losing, what, I think six of the last seven,
- 5:27Speaker 3: and some of them were ugly. Micah Parsons isn't there,
- 5:30Speaker 3: but that's only one person. That can't be the entire thing.
- 5:34Speaker 3: But if you look at their wide receivers, it doesn't
- 5:35Speaker 3: feel like they have an A-level wide receiver on the roster.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Tucker Kraft is supposed to be an A-level tight end.
- 5:42Speaker 3: There were more than a few drops, passes that were made.
- 5:45Speaker 3: This was not Jordan Love's problem last night.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I'm going to 20-second timeout you. I think Christian Watson,
- 5:50Speaker 2: when he's healthy on that rare occasion, is an A-level guy.
- 5:52Speaker 2: He had a bad holding call last night, and Matthew
- 5:55Speaker 2: Golden actually played well last night. Tucker Kraft was supposed
- 5:57Speaker 2: to be good, but he struggled, especially in blocking. And
- 6:00Speaker 2: then afterwards, what really got me, Paul, Tucker Kraft complained
- 6:05Speaker 2: about the fans. We have the sound. You want to
- 6:06Speaker 2: hear it? Here's Tucker Kraft talking about the reaction in
- 6:09Speaker 2: Green Bay. Yeah, it's pretty tough.
- 6:11Speaker 4: You know, like everyone pictures Lambeau Field and.
- 6:18Speaker 1: The, not booze.
- 6:20Speaker 5: I don't picture booze.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I picture my home stadium. That's tough. It's pretty disappointing.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Especially for a home opener.
- 6:29Speaker 4: Especially for a home opener.
- 6:30Speaker 2: It's pretty disappointing. It's not going to help us win.
- 6:35Speaker 4: I don't know what people think that's going to rally
- 6:38Speaker 4: us or something like that, but we're growing, man. We're
- 6:43Speaker 4: mentally strong enough, capable enough to get back on the
- 6:45Speaker 4: field and play ball. But it would probably be much
- 6:51Speaker 4: easier with the 70,000 people behind us rather than opposing us.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Tucker Kraft, my man, you got baited. The local media
- 6:58Speaker 3: was there and they're trying to get something more than
- 7:00Speaker 3: just the game, the loss. They asked you about the fans.
- 7:03Speaker 3: If I went to the rookie symposium, I would tell
- 7:05Speaker 3: the rookies, if you're ever asked about the fans at home, say,
- 7:07Speaker 3: you know, it's about us winning on the field and
- 7:10Speaker 3: deserving their cheers. They were fine tonight. It's not on them.
- 7:13Speaker 3: You've got to say it. But Tucker Kraft expounded on it.
- 7:16Speaker 3: He jabbed the fans two or three times. That is
- 7:19Speaker 3: not a veteran move. And when the fans are upset
- 7:21Speaker 3: with you, you've got to ignore that. You have to
- 7:23Speaker 3: eat that.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Absolutely. And if there was anyone disappointing, it wasn't the
- 7:27Speaker 2: 70,000 fans. It was the 53 players on the Packers
- 7:30Speaker 2: who disappointed at every level.
- 7:31Speaker 3: The Packers are the most loyal fan base as much
- 7:33Speaker 3: as anyone in the league. And if you compare them,
- 7:35Speaker 3: I think Dan Patrick earlier today on the Dan Patrick show,
- 7:38Speaker 3: compared Packer fans to Cardinals fans, St. Louis Cardinals. They're supportive.
- 7:42Speaker 2: They cheer.
- 7:43Speaker 3: They rally. And they were cheering even at a point
- 7:46Speaker 3: in the third or fourth quarter where it was kind
- 7:47Speaker 3: of a game. That's just dumb by Tucker Kraft. You're
- 7:51Speaker 3: going to make it worse.
- 7:52Speaker 2: You know, he just got paid, too. And he didn't
- 7:54Speaker 2: play well last night. He missed a couple key blocks.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Did have a few catches. He's a key player for them,
- 7:59Speaker 2: but he shouldn't say anything. Imagine if he was a
- 8:01Speaker 2: free agent down the road and he went to Philly.
- 8:03Speaker 2: If you think they booed at Green Bay, I mean,
- 8:05Speaker 2: they deserved the boos last night because the effort was
- 8:07Speaker 2: not there, especially defense. Forget the offense. B. John Robinson
- 8:11Speaker 2: was stopped at the line and broke through so many tackles.
- 8:14Speaker 2: This is the NFL. Nobody breaks tackles like that anymore.
- 8:16Speaker 2: It's not the 80s. It's not Barry Sanders.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Your homeowner is against one of the worst teams in
- 8:20Speaker 3: the league. This is like when your high school schedules
- 8:22Speaker 3: a bad team for homecoming or your college schedules a
- 8:24Speaker 3: bad team. You've got Atlanta, who had done nothing, and
- 8:27Speaker 3: you do a no-show. All right, let's give out helmet stickers.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Wait, before that. Go ahead. I want to do a throwback.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Because I do have something nice to say about Green Bay.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Okay.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Do you remember on the Dan Patrick show when I
- 8:36Speaker 2: uttered the word?
- 8:37Speaker 3: What are we doing here? Oh, McLovin says relax.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Relax, but it's spelled wrong.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Yes, because you spelled it wrong on air.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Yes, I called it R-E-A-L-X. It actually sounds right, but
- 8:48Speaker 2: that's wrong.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Are you going Aaron Rodgers, relax, pump the brakes, everything's
- 8:51Speaker 3: going to be fine at Green Bay?
- 8:53Speaker 2: A little bit. Micah Parsons might be back for the
- 8:55Speaker 2: Cowboys game in October. This team is not nearly as
- 8:59Speaker 2: bad as they looked last night, and they could get. Now,
- 9:01Speaker 2: Dan said something interesting. He doesn't expect Josh Jacobs back
- 9:04Speaker 2: this season because there is video out there of an
- 9:07Speaker 2: alleged assault, and he's on the commissioner's list.
- 9:10Speaker 3: If you're a Packer fan, would you relax a little
- 9:11Speaker 3: bit because the Lions don't look great, the Bears don't
- 9:14Speaker 3: look great, and the Vikings don't look great?
- 9:16Speaker 2: I'm not going to go there, but what I will
- 9:17Speaker 2: say is when Micah Parsons gets back, he is the
- 9:21Speaker 2: energy for that entire defense. There's so much juice with him.
- 9:24Speaker 2: It makes everyone's job easier. I think they're going to
- 9:26Speaker 2: get healthier around the whole lineup. Tucker Kraft is going
- 9:29Speaker 2: to get more used to playing. He's obviously a little rusty.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I liked Matthew Golden last night. Jordan Love missed some
- 9:35Speaker 2: big-time throws. The fourth down throw where he threw it
- 9:37Speaker 2: to the back of the end zone. He's going to
- 9:38Speaker 2: get better. I think Green Bay is a team you
- 9:40Speaker 2: don't want to face in the second half. I think
- 9:41Speaker 2: they're going to have a losing record, Paul. But they're
- 9:43Speaker 2: going to get a lot healthier. So I'm saying R-E-A-L-X.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Yeah, positive pearl off here. All right, let's give out
- 9:49Speaker 3: some helmet stickers last night. I'll let you go first.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Okay, my helmet stickers. I'm going obvious. Bijan, we all
- 9:55Speaker 2: knew he was great. Drake London needed a game like
- 9:57Speaker 2: this to become sort of a number one receiver. in
- 10:00Speaker 2: the nfl 194 yards completely dominant they couldn't cover them
- 10:04Speaker 2: and they got stuck in one-on-one coverage because they were
- 10:07Speaker 2: so worried about bijan robinson i am really impressed this
- 10:10Speaker 2: is the guy who i kind of worry was drafted
- 10:12Speaker 2: too high number eight overall by hitting a stride Yeah,
- 10:15Speaker 2: he looks like a great number one receiver. I'm all in.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Yeah, Kyle Pitts hitting his stride. All right, let's get
- 10:20Speaker 3: to my helmet sticker. Usually it's supposed to go to
- 10:21Speaker 3: a player. I'm going to help someone out here. This
- 10:24Speaker 3: poor woman after a drop by the Packers, she deserves
- 10:27Speaker 3: a helmet sticker. Take a look at this.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 10:29Speaker 3: She's so upset, she's got to check her own pulse. Oh, boy.
- 10:33Speaker 3: I mean, calling the medics, calling the people. I've been
- 10:37Speaker 3: there before. Look at that. Someone attend to her. Make
- 10:40Speaker 3: sure she's okay.
- 10:41Speaker 2: This is a level of snarkiness I'm not used to
- 10:44Speaker 2: from Green Bay fans.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Well, I don't think she was playing to the camera.
- 10:48Speaker 2: You think she really was having a medical issue?
- 10:49Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. I've been there before. As a Bears fan,
- 10:52Speaker 3: I've left games at halftime and just been kind of
- 10:55Speaker 3: dizzy and had to walk out and get some vitamin
- 10:57Speaker 3: D and get some sunshine. She seemed in need of help.
- 11:00Speaker 3: She needed to go to the pen.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I don't know. It's almost as if she knew the
- 11:03Speaker 2: camera was on her. But I don't know how she
- 11:05Speaker 2: would have known that. She was kind of high up.
- 11:07Speaker 3: We've got a lot more NFL to hit coming up.
- 11:09Speaker 2: All right. It's a rare day in baseball where a
- 11:12Speaker 2: city has two teams clinch. Of course, it's Paul City.
- 11:15Speaker 2: We're going to dive into baseball next. Not so fast.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Pitch is inside.
- 11:28Speaker 5: And he's done it!
- 11:31Speaker 2: 40-40 for the soon-to-be MVP!
- 11:35Speaker 3: That's a midday pick-me-up, and that's Peter Crow Armstrong, and
- 11:38Speaker 3: the Cubs fans going nuts as he goes 40-40. What
- 11:41Speaker 3: a season for him. He's going to cruise to the MVP,
- 11:43Speaker 3: which you can't imagine saying six months ago.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Unbelievable. You know what, though? I'm going to be a
- 11:48Speaker 2: wet blanket here, if permission allowed.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Wow, go for it.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I love it. So 40 steals in the era where
- 11:54Speaker 2: the pitcher can't go over to first base doesn't mean
- 11:56Speaker 2: the same thing. Shohei obviously went 50-50. To me, these
- 12:00Speaker 2: are manufactured stats. I do not care about it. I'm
- 12:03Speaker 2: old enough that I watch Vince Coleman run the bases.
- 12:05Speaker 2: These guys are not the same. It's easy to steal
- 12:07Speaker 2: a base if the guy can't do the pickoff move
- 12:10Speaker 2: unlimited times.
- 12:11Speaker 3: So I can see what you're saying, that steals aren't
- 12:13Speaker 3: the steals of our youth where 70, 80, 90 was
- 12:15Speaker 3: the number. But I guess the 40-40 is the hook
- 12:18Speaker 3: where the power and speed, usually guys who hit 40
- 12:21Speaker 3: aren't allowed to steal.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Well, yeah, but in the new era with the bigger bases,
- 12:26Speaker 2: all these Rob Manfred changes. The gloves even? Yeah, if
- 12:28Speaker 2: Shohei Otani can get 50 steals, then I'm not going
- 12:31Speaker 2: to be blown away by PCA getting 40.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Look at you with the wet blanket. Let's get to
- 12:34Speaker 3: some warm takes and warm it up in here because
- 12:36Speaker 3: it got a little cold. I'm going to go first.
- 12:37Speaker 3: It's time for some warm takes. Here's mine. I'm going
- 12:40Speaker 3: to stay in Chicago. Sports fans in all cities, they
- 12:44Speaker 3: don't get days like this very often. Let me recap
- 12:46Speaker 3: what happened in Chicago yesterday. The White Sox clinched a
- 12:49Speaker 3: spot in the playoffs. 12 minutes later, the Cubs clinched
- 12:52Speaker 3: a spot in the playoffs. During that Cubs game, Pete
- 12:55Speaker 3: Crowe Armstrong joined the 40-40 club. We just saw that.
- 12:58Speaker 3: There's the Cubs getting in the playoffs. Now, the Cubs
- 13:01Speaker 3: making the playoffs isn't a big surprise. The White Sox
- 13:04Speaker 3: making the playoffs is a huge surprise. Last year, the
- 13:07Speaker 3: White Sox lost 102 games. Two seasons ago, the White Sox,
- 13:12Speaker 3: there's the Cubs soaking it in at Wrigley, not a
- 13:14Speaker 3: big surprise. Let's go to the White Sox. 100 losses
- 13:17Speaker 3: last year. 121 losses the season before. Historical. They like
- 13:22Speaker 3: tied the Richmond Spiders or the Cleveland Spiders or something
- 13:25Speaker 3: like that. Some Spiders. That's historical. But the White Sox,
- 13:29Speaker 3: you know, they're not a dominant team. They don't have
- 13:30Speaker 3: 100 wins. They kind of have a weak division to
- 13:33Speaker 3: get in. Doesn't matter. That is a feel-good story for
- 13:36Speaker 3: the White Sox and kind of shocking. And the bonus
- 13:38Speaker 3: coverage for Chicago sports fans, Sox get in, Cubs get in,
- 13:42Speaker 3: PCA 40-40, and the icing on the cake is watching
- 13:45Speaker 3: the Packers lose in painful fashion against on national TV.
- 13:49Speaker 3: That's like a 30-for-30 day in Chicago, and you don't
- 13:51Speaker 3: get those that often. So if you're a Chicago sports fan,
- 13:54Speaker 3: whatever town you're from, soak those in, watch both teams,
- 13:57Speaker 3: support the whole town. That was fascinating.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Okay, Paul, so if you're a new viewer to Not
- 14:02Speaker 2: So Fast, I have to ask a question. Who are
- 14:05Speaker 2: you pulling for in the postseason? You're a Chicago native.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Is it the White Sox or the Cubs?
- 14:08Speaker 3: That's a tough question. I've dealt with this before. I
- 14:10Speaker 3: am a Cubs fan. I'm a Chicagoan. I'm a Cubs fan.
- 14:13Speaker 3: I'm from the South Side, which makes it really weird.
- 14:15Speaker 3: But I like the Sox, and I like when the
- 14:18Speaker 3: Sox do well for the rest of the city. I
- 14:20Speaker 3: don't root for the Sox nor against the Sox. When
- 14:23Speaker 3: the Sox win, it's good for the city. It's good
- 14:25Speaker 3: for everybody. I've never gotten into the thing, and I'm
- 14:27Speaker 3: going to get crushed for this. where you love your
- 14:30Speaker 3: team and hate the team from across town. I think
- 14:33Speaker 3: that's kind of weird, and you were just licking your chops.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Well, I mean, Yankees and Mets fans hate each other. Clippers,
- 14:38Speaker 2: Lakers fans, I don't think the Lakers fans even care
- 14:40Speaker 2: about the Clippers.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Right, and I don't care about the Sox. I just
- 14:42Speaker 3: look at, like, hey, if they're doing well, great. I
- 14:45Speaker 3: hope the Cubs do better, much better.
- 14:46Speaker 2: And what's the percentage of the cities? Is it 50-50?
- 14:49Speaker 2: Is it 60-40?
- 14:49Speaker 3: That's a weird one, and we could do an hour
- 14:51Speaker 3: on this. The Sox are really south side. Cubs are
- 14:53Speaker 3: all over, and, of course, the north side and the
- 14:55Speaker 3: west side. But the Cubs are a national team. They're
- 14:58Speaker 3: like a tourist attraction.
- 14:59Speaker 2: I saw them as a kid, WGN. They were on
- 15:01Speaker 2: TV all the time.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Yeah, and Wrigley Field is more of a place you
- 15:04Speaker 3: want to go to if you're not even barely a
- 15:06Speaker 3: Cubs fan or a baseball fan. The Sox are more
- 15:09Speaker 3: territorial to the south side.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Absolutely. Okay. I have a team everybody should root for
- 15:13Speaker 2: in the NFL, and it's a weird one. The Las
- 15:15Speaker 2: Vegas Raiders are now the darling of the NFL. They're 2-0.
- 15:21Speaker 2: They play New Orleans, could go 3-0. It's a winnable game,
- 15:24Speaker 2: I think. But here's what's exciting to me, Paul. On
- 15:26Speaker 2: November 18th, the John Madden movie comes out with Nicolas
- 15:29Speaker 2: Cage and Christian Bale about Madden and Al Davis. There
- 15:33Speaker 2: is a resurgence of the commitment to excellence. Everything Raiders
- 15:37Speaker 2: feels like is in the air. You know the old
- 15:40Speaker 2: NFL film thing, Autumn Wind was a Raider? Oh, yeah.
- 15:43Speaker 2: All that stuff is going to be in play if
- 15:45Speaker 2: the Raiders are good. I watched some of the highlights
- 15:47Speaker 2: this morning. Kirk Cousins wasn't throwing little dink passes. He
- 15:51Speaker 2: was gunning it all over the field like Daryl LaMonica
- 15:54Speaker 2: or one of the old Raiders quarterbacks. This is Raider football.
- 15:58Speaker 2: So the movie comes out the 18th. The Raiders play
- 16:00Speaker 2: Seattle on November 15th. Somehow, they have a winning record
- 16:03Speaker 2: after that. It is going to be a craze. People
- 16:06Speaker 2: follow the Raiders even when they're bad, Paul. Can you
- 16:08Speaker 2: imagine with all this going on, if they're good? This
- 16:11Speaker 2: is one of the most exciting seasons we've had in
- 16:13Speaker 2: a long time. And you don't even need number one
- 16:15Speaker 2: overall pick, Fernando Mendoza. I'm into all things Raiders.
- 16:18Speaker 3: It's very fun. And a couple reasons I love this
- 16:20Speaker 3: story is that the Raiders have their reputation. Vegas has
- 16:23Speaker 3: its reputation. And Kirk Cousins and Fernando Mendoza are the
- 16:26Speaker 3: least Raider quarterbacks of all time. Fernando Mendoza makes Kirk
- 16:31Speaker 3: Cousins seem like a kind of a rough and tumble guy.
- 16:33Speaker 3: I mean, Kirk Cousins, they go shopping together for friendly
- 16:36Speaker 3: deals at Kohl's. I love that. They're just fascinating the
- 16:39Speaker 3: dichotomy of those guys.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw Fernando Mendoza, and it might have been fake,
- 16:42Speaker 2: is starting a class on financial management for athletes or something.
- 16:45Speaker 2: He's the biggest nerd in sports.
- 16:47Speaker 3: And you go to Vegas because you make bad financial decisions.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Right. And now Vegas is drafting probably the wrong kind
- 16:52Speaker 2: of guys. But this is kind of fun. And also,
- 16:55Speaker 2: I would also say the Saints. If they beat the Raiders,
- 16:57Speaker 2: then heck, I'll just jump on that Saints bandwagon. I
- 17:00Speaker 2: need some feel-good stories.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Yeah, bandwagon week to week. We do that here in
- 17:03Speaker 3: Not So Fast. All right, my next warm take is this.
- 17:05Speaker 3: It is a pivotal weekend in college football for a
- 17:08Speaker 3: couple teams. Florida, Iowa, and Mississippi State. Now, Florida's 3-0.
- 17:12Speaker 3: The new ball coach, John Summerall, is a lot of fun.
- 17:15Speaker 3: He's got some momentum. You have Ole Miss at home.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Ole Miss is ripe for a letdown after putting all
- 17:20Speaker 3: their eggs in the basket of being LSU. Great week
- 17:22Speaker 3: for Florida, possibly. Iowa at Michigan. Iowa gets very little
- 17:26Speaker 3: national coverage. They have a fantastic defense. They're 3-0. You
- 17:30Speaker 3: beat Michigan on national TV. That's a big one. You
- 17:33Speaker 3: host Ohio State after that. Then the schedule gets a
- 17:36Speaker 3: little more friendly. This is an opportunity weekend for Iowa.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Mississippi State, your Bulldogs pearl off. You love Camario Taylor,
- 17:43Speaker 3: the quarterback. Everyone loves this guy.
- 17:45Speaker 5: Cool.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Beat Missouri, and then you can go on an SEC run.
- 17:49Speaker 3: It's a lot uphill for Mississippi State because the schedule
- 17:51Speaker 3: is so tough. But you're at 3-0 right now. It's
- 17:54Speaker 3: cute and fuzzy. But you have to go to 4-0
- 17:56Speaker 3: and beat a contender-ish team to get national coverage. You
- 18:00Speaker 3: want to be the Indiana this year? You want to
- 18:02Speaker 3: be the SMU? You want to be the Arizona State
- 18:04Speaker 3: and make the playoffs? These three teams have a chance. Wow.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I don't think so. You really think they have a
- 18:09Speaker 2: chance to become Indiana?
- 18:11Speaker 3: Well, they're not that far off the board. Mississippi State
- 18:13Speaker 3: is usually good football. Florida, Iowa. I just think these
- 18:16Speaker 3: teams have something. But they can't afford a loss now. Like,
- 18:20Speaker 3: if they lose now, they go right back to the
- 18:21Speaker 3: back of the line.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Yeah. Mississippi State, this reminds me of the Dak Prescott year.
- 18:24Speaker 2: I don't think we've been excited about this team. You know,
- 18:27Speaker 2: it's interesting, too. You think, will they get game day?
- 18:29Speaker 2: That's sort of the measurement of where the buzz is.
- 18:31Speaker 2: And you're right. If they win these games this weekend,
- 18:34Speaker 2: I think all of them are in play for a
- 18:36Speaker 2: lot of attention. Okay. I know one game that's going
- 18:39Speaker 2: to get attention. It's the Cowboys-Ravens, 425 CBS. It is
- 18:44Speaker 2: going to get, of course, a monster rating. Here's the issue, Paul.
- 18:46Speaker 2: It's in Rio. In Brazil, at the Maracanã Stadium, which
- 18:50Speaker 2: the soccer players, or what they call football, have been
- 18:54Speaker 2: complaining about for years, apparently. Now, normally, the NFL doesn't care.
- 18:58Speaker 2: It's all about international expansion. They don't care about player health.
- 19:02Speaker 2: This would be bad. Think about who's playing on Sunday.
- 19:04Speaker 2: You've got Derrick Henry, who is still at his peak
- 19:07Speaker 2: in his 30s. You have the most exciting quarterback in
- 19:10Speaker 2: the league, in some people's eyes, Lamar Jackson. Then you
- 19:13Speaker 2: have Dak Prescott on Dallas. In week two, Dak Prescott
- 19:16Speaker 2: played as good a game as any quarterback in the NFL.
- 19:19Speaker 2: You have a potential Cowboys quarterback with an MVP season. Now,
- 19:24Speaker 2: you can't risk all that to play on a crappy
- 19:26Speaker 2: field in Brazil, Paul.
- 19:27Speaker 3: They didn't send the Jaguars down there like 12 years
- 19:29Speaker 3: ago with no stars. There's stars on the field.
- 19:31Speaker 2: This was a dumb move by the NFL. They should
- 19:33Speaker 2: have sent that Falcons-Dolphins. Get those teams out. Sorry, Atlanta's hot.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Give me another team. Dolphins and somebody bad. Browns. Dolphins-Browns,
- 19:43Speaker 2: that would have been perfect for Rio. They don't know
- 19:44Speaker 2: the difference in Brazil. Do you think they need to
- 19:46Speaker 2: see the Cowboys? Why did the NFL waste the Cowboys-Ravens
- 19:49Speaker 2: game for down there?
- 19:50Speaker 3: I'm going to save it, but I think this is hot.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I think this could be very problematic for the NFL.
- 19:54Speaker 3: You know, a couple more saucy games before we break. Patriots-Jaguars.
- 19:59Speaker 3: I mean, this is wake-up call time for Drake May.
- 20:02Speaker 3: He hasn't had a good game since early in the
- 20:05Speaker 3: playoffs last year.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know. He was awesome against Cleveland in
- 20:09Speaker 2: week one.
- 20:09Speaker 3: That doesn't count.
- 20:10Speaker 2: You don't get points against Cleveland. Now, I was actually
- 20:13Speaker 2: disappointed because Jacksonville had Denver on the ropes last week
- 20:15Speaker 2: and totally took the foot off the gas. I think
- 20:18Speaker 2: there's more pressure on Drake May because a lot of
- 20:20Speaker 2: critics are coming out about Drake May, that he isn't
- 20:23Speaker 2: really playing anything like he did last year. And you
- 20:25Speaker 2: know why, because he had the easy schedule last year.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Now he faces tougher teams, including these Jags. He doesn't
- 20:30Speaker 2: look exactly like the same quarterback since the Super Bowl.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Yeah, Kurt Warner was on with Dan Patrick just an
- 20:34Speaker 3: hour ago, and he said that Drake May has not
- 20:36Speaker 3: let it rip. He's being too cautious.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Yeah, he's aiming, not throwing. So this is definitely a
- 20:42Speaker 2: judgment game. We come out of this game saying this
- 20:44Speaker 2: team is a contender if they win. The Jags, they
- 20:47Speaker 2: could be 2-0, and if they beat Denver and New England,
- 20:51Speaker 2: then I think you're looking at them as a real
- 20:52Speaker 2: Super Bowl team. If they lose this game, they're 1-2,
- 20:55Speaker 2: and they're back to where we were a couple years
- 20:57Speaker 2: ago as not a real threat.
- 20:59Speaker 3: That'd be weird. That'd be weird. All right, coming up next,
- 21:00Speaker 3: we have the Clip Joint. We also have coming up
- 21:03Speaker 3: in 15 minutes, Paul Burmeister of NBC Sports to get
- 21:05Speaker 3: you ready for the entire college football weekend. Stick around.
- 21:08Speaker 3: It's not so fast.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Who's the next great tight end in the NFL?
- 21:17Speaker 6: Oh, I think Trey McBride's probably the best consistent tight
- 21:20Speaker 6: end right now over the last couple of years. These
- 21:22Speaker 6: guys are having good rookie years, but then they're kind
- 21:25Speaker 6: of falling off a little bit. Ty Warren was solid
- 21:29Speaker 6: at first, not doing too much lately, but I'm a
- 21:33Speaker 6: big fan of him. Colson Loveland, I thought was going
- 21:36Speaker 6: to take the next step forward, and now he hasn't
- 21:39Speaker 6: produced in the first two games.
- 21:40Speaker 5: So the consistency isn't there.
- 21:43Speaker 6: I mean, these guys have talent, no doubt, but I
- 21:48Speaker 6: was leaning towards Colson Loveland, but he just, you know,
- 21:52Speaker 6: going into this year, I just need to see him
- 21:54Speaker 6: produce now going into, you know, third week of the season.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Back on Not So Fast, Paxton Perloff right here on
- 22:00Speaker 3: NBC Sports and Peacock. That's Gronk earlier with DP on
- 22:03Speaker 3: the Dan Patrick Show. He's talking about tight ends, and
- 22:06Speaker 3: I thought he really nailed it because... The one I
- 22:08Speaker 3: was going to pick was Colston Loveland, the breakout star
- 22:11Speaker 3: for the Bears. I'm not being biased, but a lot
- 22:13Speaker 3: of people liked him.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Is the best tight end in football, though?
- 22:15Speaker 3: Not the best, but the guy who's going to be next.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Well, that's Brock Bowers, though.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Yeah, Brock Bowers, injured. Colston Loveland, slow start. Tyler Warren,
- 22:23Speaker 3: slow start. You still love all three guys, though.
- 22:26Speaker 2: I actually pulled up the stats. The leading receivers at
- 22:27Speaker 2: tight end, Dalton Kincaid in Buffalo, who we don't talk
- 22:30Speaker 2: a lot about, is number one. Then Dalton Schultz. Travis
- 22:33Speaker 2: Kelsey is still number three. And then my guy, Trey McBride,
- 22:36Speaker 2: is four. Is it possible that Kelsey is still the
- 22:38Speaker 2: top tight end in football?
- 22:39Speaker 3: I'm glad you brought that up because I thought Kelsey
- 22:41Speaker 3: played really well in weeks one and two where I
- 22:43Speaker 3: was like, okay. This guy, we assume he's retiring. He
- 22:46Speaker 3: looks pretty solid.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. It's so funny because Gronk answered that question,
- 22:49Speaker 2: did not get into Kittle and Kelsey, who are older,
- 22:52Speaker 2: but they're still right there.
- 22:53Speaker 3: And Kelsey had that catch the other day where he
- 22:56Speaker 3: was rumbling and stumbling. He was looking around like he
- 22:57Speaker 3: hadn't done this in a while, like he hadn't run
- 22:59Speaker 3: 30 yards in a while.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Yeah, but I go Trey McBride. I always say, why
- 23:02Speaker 2: are you not double teaming Trey McBride? It's hard to
- 23:05Speaker 2: double team a tight end. He is the best tight
- 23:07Speaker 2: end in football. He's not Gronk. I mean, Gronk was
- 23:09Speaker 2: so high up there, maybe the best ever, but Trey
- 23:12Speaker 2: McBride's the best right now to me.
- 23:13Speaker 3: You know, I hope Brock Bowers gets healthy because, like
- 23:15Speaker 3: you said, you like what's going on there with Las Vegas.
- 23:18Speaker 2: They're 2-0 without him. It's amazing.
- 23:19Speaker 3: And he is the focal point. He'll have 120 targets
- 23:22Speaker 3: in his sleep. All right, let's get to the next one.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Let's talk. We did tight ends. Let's talk fullbacks. Check
- 23:26Speaker 3: this out. 49ers Kyle Juszczyk. The other day, he had
- 23:29Speaker 3: a good play, and he decides to celebrate a little bit,
- 23:31Speaker 3: you know, and he kind of takes a little sip.
- 23:33Speaker 3: It looks like he's kind of cracking a beer and
- 23:35Speaker 3: chugging it. Well, it turns out, not so fast. That's
- 23:38Speaker 3: not what he was talking about. Here's his explanation.
- 23:42Speaker 1: I don't know how else to say it. I wasn't
- 23:44Speaker 1: drinking beer in my celebration. I think you guys all
- 23:48Speaker 1: know my nickname is Juice. I have juice on my pads.
- 23:52Speaker 1: The stadium yells juice when I catch the ball. When
- 23:57Speaker 1: I celebrate, I celebrate by drinking juice, and it's been
- 24:00Speaker 1: that way for years. So I was surprised as anybody
- 24:04Speaker 1: when I got a fine.
- 24:07Speaker 3: This is a big whiff by the NFL fine office.
- 24:09Speaker 3: $ 15, 000 for a beer? That's expensive no matter what liquor
- 24:12Speaker 3: store you're going to.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Just clarify for me. Is this gin and juice we're
- 24:15Speaker 2: talking about or just juice?
- 24:16Speaker 3: Straight up juice. I don't know what kind of juice,
- 24:19Speaker 3: but he did the celebration. Watch here. Take a little sip.
- 24:22Speaker 3: You know, if he would have done the crack open,
- 24:25Speaker 3: pour it all over himself, that's the beer move.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Now, if I didn't know that he did the juice,
- 24:29Speaker 2: I would have thought beer. You don't really drink juice
- 24:31Speaker 2: like this, but he does.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Let me put you on the spot. Does the NFL
- 24:34Speaker 3: rescind this fine?
- 24:36Speaker 2: No, he can afford it.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Oh, absolutely not. If I'm him, I do like... You
- 24:41Speaker 3: can't prove it.
- 24:42Speaker 2: You're going to appeal that silly little fine? You know,
- 24:44Speaker 2: his wife makes a ton of money as an influencer
- 24:46Speaker 2: and a fashionista. He does not need the money. He
- 24:48Speaker 2: went to Harvard. He's probably going to become a banker
- 24:50Speaker 2: after this.
- 24:50Speaker 3: His nickname's Juice. He's got a built-in excuse. If this
- 24:53Speaker 3: were Kittle, Kittle would have had, like, a beer bong
- 24:55Speaker 3: up there, and you'd have been like, this is no surprise.
- 24:57Speaker 2: But if it was Kittle, it would have been, right,
- 24:58Speaker 2: actual beer. It wouldn't have been anything symbolic.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Yeah, chewed ahead, poured all over his head. All right,
- 25:03Speaker 3: some more good news. Let's go back to Chicago. This
- 25:05Speaker 3: is a great one. White Sox slugger. Munekawa Murakami and
- 25:10Speaker 3: his translator after clinching the division. Watch this as one
- 25:13Speaker 3: of the clips of the year.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Mune, your first clubhouse celebration rated on a scale of
- 25:19Speaker 2: 1 to 10.
- 25:19Speaker 3: How's it going so far?
- 25:21Speaker 2: How many champagne bottles have you opened so far? Just
- 25:40Speaker 2: what does it mean just to be able to celebrate
- 25:42Speaker 2: with this team? All right, we have a new favorite player.
- 25:54Speaker 2: I knew nothing about this guy, but I am 100
- 25:57Speaker 2: in on him.
- 25:58Speaker 3: That's fantastic. They asked him 1 to 10. He just
- 26:00Speaker 3: screams out 100. You know, they lost 100 games last year.
- 26:03Speaker 3: We talk about how you celebrate after making the postseason.
- 26:06Speaker 3: This is an apt celebration for the White Sox.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Well, I had to take that you don't over-celebrate too
- 26:10Speaker 2: much in baseball. I don't like that you clinch, then
- 26:13Speaker 2: you celebrate after the wild card and the divisional round,
- 26:15Speaker 2: especially if you're the New York Yankees. But if you're
- 26:17Speaker 2: the White Sox, celebrate away. This is my new favorite pitcher.
- 26:20Speaker 3: Yeah, if you hadn't heard of Murakami yet, everyone heard
- 26:23Speaker 3: about him based off this clip. That was really fantastic.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Okay, Kurt Warner was on the Dan Patrick Show earlier.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Great interview. He's calling the Bears-Eagles on Monday night, and
- 26:32Speaker 2: he weighed in on whether we should expect to see
- 26:34Speaker 2: Caleb Williams.
- 26:37Speaker 7: I don't expect him to play on Monday night. I
- 26:39Speaker 7: love the news that it doesn't seem like it's going
- 26:41Speaker 7: to be a long-term thing, but just knowing the way
- 26:44Speaker 7: that Caleb plays, you know, and again, seeing the nature
- 26:48Speaker 7: of the injury, obviously it wasn't as bad as maybe
- 26:50Speaker 7: it looked like on the field, but seeing the nature
- 26:53Speaker 7: of that and knowing the movement being such a big
- 26:56Speaker 7: part of what Caleb does, I can't believe they're going
- 26:58Speaker 7: to rush him out there. I can't believe he's going
- 27:00Speaker 7: to be there definitely on Monday night. And I feel
- 27:04Speaker 7: like it's going to be a few weeks you know,
- 27:08Speaker 7: injury or, you know, him on the sidelines for a
- 27:10Speaker 7: few weeks so he can get back healthy. So when
- 27:13Speaker 7: he does play, he can be the Caleb Williams that
- 27:16Speaker 7: we've seen over the last couple of years.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree with Kurt there. You can't put Caleb
- 27:20Speaker 2: Williams out at 60% because he does like to run
- 27:22Speaker 2: around the pocket. Eagles have a good pass rush. He'll
- 27:25Speaker 2: get after him. What's the point? Does it matter that much?
- 27:28Speaker 3: No, probably not. I am wondering, though, for the Bears,
- 27:30Speaker 3: is this gamesmanship by Ben Johnson and the PR staff?
- 27:33Speaker 3: They haven't named any starter. And it's Friday at one
- 27:36Speaker 3: o'clock in the afternoon almost.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Well, they did. I mean, Tyson Badgen, the backup, the
- 27:40Speaker 2: normal backups in the concussion protocol. And do we know
- 27:42Speaker 2: where that stands?
- 27:43Speaker 3: So if you look at that, do you think they're
- 27:44Speaker 3: hoping for Bajan to get in there and holding, you know,
- 27:48Speaker 3: holding hope for or is it not anything with Caleb Williams?
- 27:52Speaker 2: I think it's a combo. I don't think they have
- 27:54Speaker 2: any idea on either one of them. I think there's
- 27:56Speaker 2: a little embarrassment around Caleb Williams because everyone made it
- 27:59Speaker 2: seem like the biggest deal. I really do think that's
- 28:01Speaker 2: a factor, Paul.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Factor in whether they play him or not?
- 28:03Speaker 2: I think Caleb Williams is going to tell the doctor,
- 28:06Speaker 2: I don't want to go back out there. Yes, I do.
- 28:08Speaker 2: It's ridiculous.
- 28:08Speaker 3: I think you're being facetious.
- 28:09Speaker 2: No, I'm actually not. I think if Caleb Williams is
- 28:12Speaker 2: a coin flip, A, he's going to protect his health.
- 28:14Speaker 2: That's the most important thing. He does not want to
- 28:16Speaker 2: go out and risk further injury. It would be stupid
- 28:18Speaker 2: to do that. Okay, I can But B, I do
- 28:20Speaker 2: think in his subconscious, he is thinking, I've been made
- 28:24Speaker 2: fun of all week. Do I really want to jump
- 28:26Speaker 2: right back out there and make a fool of myself
- 28:28Speaker 2: and then not even play well against a really good team?
- 28:30Speaker 3: I could see that being in his head, Caleb Williams,
- 28:32Speaker 3: that this is an awkward situation that I'm going to
- 28:34Speaker 3: have to address right after the game if I start
- 28:36Speaker 3: or next week. But do you think Ben Johnson is
- 28:38Speaker 3: giving any thought to the social media stuff as he
- 28:42Speaker 3: sets his lineup?
- 28:43Speaker 2: Okay, no, he's not. But Caleb might say something. Kurt
- 28:46Speaker 2: Warner's point is great, though. Why on earth would you
- 28:50Speaker 2: risk a gimpy hamstring? Because if there's no Caleb Williams
- 28:52Speaker 2: for the season, a season with very high expectations, possible
- 28:56Speaker 2: Super Bowl is off.
- 28:57Speaker 3: See, what you need to do here is have Caleb
- 28:59Speaker 3: Williams as your emergency quarterback. You've got to be down
- 29:01Speaker 3: big at halftime. Then he runs out of the locker room,
- 29:03Speaker 3: takes off the parka, and saves the day like Jim
- 29:06Speaker 3: McMahon a thousand years ago.
- 29:07Speaker 2: I think he should walk out because he's got a
- 29:09Speaker 2: sore hamstring. I do not need to see him running out. Obviously,
- 29:12Speaker 2: I want to see Case Keenum because he's my buddy.
- 29:14Speaker 2: He'd probably be pretty good against the Eagles, quick passing game.
- 29:19Speaker 2: That's what Cale Williams needs to work on, by the way,
- 29:21Speaker 2: is how to pass out of the pocket. I'm very
- 29:23Speaker 2: curious to see what he's going to be like after
- 29:25Speaker 2: he gets back and he can't run as much because
- 29:27Speaker 2: he takes off on almost every play. He doesn't go downfield, Paul,
- 29:30Speaker 2: but he runs around to extend the play.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think it's a really good situation for
- 29:34Speaker 3: the Bears that they have two high-end backups where you
- 29:37Speaker 3: go back to the Giants, what their situation is. Real quick.
- 29:40Speaker 3: on another game or two, Kyler Murray's starting for the Vikings.
- 29:44Speaker 3: You've talked about that. We still don't know if Sam
- 29:46Speaker 3: Darnold is starting or not. Those are some weird ones.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Sam Darnold, the playing commanders, I don't think it really
- 29:51Speaker 2: makes a huge difference one way or the other. Drew
- 29:54Speaker 2: Locke was just as good as Sam Darnold. Again, it
- 29:57Speaker 2: gets inferior competition. You've got to look at the big picture.
- 30:00Speaker 2: I think they're going to play Darnold so he gets
- 30:02Speaker 2: ready for the rest of the season. I don't think
- 30:04Speaker 2: this is a must-win.
- 30:04Speaker 3: You don't do the abundance of caution thing with Darnold,
- 30:06Speaker 3: say we could sit him for a week and Drew
- 30:08Speaker 3: Locke is doing great.
- 30:09Speaker 2: I actually would do the abundance of caution and keep
- 30:11Speaker 2: Kyler Murray out. I don't understand the rush. They're 2-0
- 30:14Speaker 2: with Carson Wentz.
- 30:15Speaker 3: That's going to be interesting. All right, coming up next,
- 30:16Speaker 3: we have our guy, Paul Burmeister, former Iowa Hawkeyes quarterback,
- 30:20Speaker 3: number 16 from NBC Sports. He's going to get us
- 30:23Speaker 3: all set up for the huge college football weekend.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Stick around.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Not so fast.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Welcome back, Not So Fast. I'm Andrew Perloff. He's Paul Papps.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Massive college football weekend ahead. And, Paul, when we started
- 30:34Speaker 2: the show, one of the guys at NBC that we
- 30:36Speaker 2: love and have known a long time, of course, former
- 30:39Speaker 2: Iowa quarterback and NBC analyst. Play-by-play. Paul Burmeister. Paul, how
- 30:46Speaker 2: are you doing, buddy? It's great to see you.
- 30:48Speaker 5: All right. Good to see you guys. Good to hear
- 30:50Speaker 5: your voices. It has been a while.
- 30:51Speaker 8: I was I thought I'd be at my hotel room working,
- 30:54Speaker 8: but we had some meetings a little late. We were
- 30:57Speaker 8: over here checking out the booth. So I'm in the
- 30:59Speaker 8: booth here at Ross State Stadium and it all looks
- 31:01Speaker 8: good to me.
- 31:02Speaker 5: My little workspace.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Look at you with the shot.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:06Speaker 2: So.
- 31:08Speaker 3: Paul, before we get to Notre Dame, we're going to
- 31:10Speaker 3: chop up Notre Dame-Purdue. You played in the Big Ten.
- 31:13Speaker 3: You played for Iowa, good old number 16. Was there
- 31:16Speaker 3: a real rough spot on the road in the Big
- 31:18Speaker 3: Ten where the fans got on you?
- 31:21Speaker 8: At home when I wasn't playing well is where they
- 31:24Speaker 8: got on me the most. But I always said that
- 31:26Speaker 8: the hardest place to play in the Big Ten, and
- 31:28Speaker 8: it's not a mystery because Ohio State has so many
- 31:30Speaker 8: good players, but Ohio State, I think, was the toughest
- 31:33Speaker 8: place to play in terms of environment. Wisconsin was always hard.
- 31:37Speaker 8: Michigan State was tough back then. Michigan was fun. It
- 31:40Speaker 8: was great to be in the big house, but it's
- 31:42Speaker 8: not a super loud place. like intimidating crowd in terms
- 31:46Speaker 8: of crowd noise. They just have really good players. So
- 31:48Speaker 8: I would say Ohio State was the hardest place, total
- 31:51Speaker 8: atmosphere to play.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Paul, would you ever imagine that a Purdue Notre Dame
- 31:55Speaker 2: game would be a battle to see who's the second
- 31:57Speaker 2: best football team in Indiana? No.
- 32:00Speaker 5: Isn't that crazy how far the Hoosiers have come?
- 32:03Speaker 8: Now, this year, it would be a heck of a
- 32:05Speaker 8: game between between Indiana and Notre Dame. And Purdue's got
- 32:09Speaker 8: a great quarterback, guys. This could be a really fun
- 32:12Speaker 8: one tomorrow if Ryan Brown ends up heating up.
- 32:16Speaker 3: You know, let's get to CJ Carr for a second, because,
- 32:18Speaker 3: you know, he hasn't had a breakout game this year.
- 32:20Speaker 3: He's doing fine work. It does seem like Notre Dame
- 32:23Speaker 3: is leading with their defense. If they go for, you know,
- 32:26Speaker 3: real deep this year, is it defense first?
- 32:29Speaker 8: The defense is elite. I mean, I think you're very safe.
- 32:31Speaker 8: Paulie's saying it's a top five, potentially number one defense
- 32:35Speaker 8: in the country.
- 32:36Speaker 5: They are legitimately that good on every level.
- 32:38Speaker 8: And I think because of that and because of the
- 32:41Speaker 8: way CJ Carr plays, I mean, he's not going to
- 32:44Speaker 8: throw for 400 yards very often, if at all.
- 32:47Speaker 5: He might not throw for 300 yards that often.
- 32:49Speaker 8: But he could be 17 out of 22 for 270,
- 32:52Speaker 8: three touchdowns, no picks, and do it again the next week.
- 32:55Speaker 8: So this will be interesting to keep an eye on.
- 32:57Speaker 8: I know his name comes up a lot in the
- 32:59Speaker 8: Heisman conversation. His numbers will be overwhelmingly efficient and consistent.
- 33:05Speaker 8: Will they be giants enough for people to buy in
- 33:08Speaker 8: for the Heisman?
- 33:09Speaker 5: We'll see.
- 33:10Speaker 2: You know, there's some big matchups. Notre Dame, nothing against Purdue,
- 33:13Speaker 2: but down the road you see Miami. C.J. Carr, I
- 33:16Speaker 2: have a question about him. I'm seeing mock drafts. Some
- 33:19Speaker 2: have him as a top five guy. But then I
- 33:21Speaker 2: heard Mel Kiper the other day say, well, there's a
- 33:23Speaker 2: chance C.J. Carr stays at Notre Dame to sort of
- 33:26Speaker 2: finish business there. Say Notre Dame doesn't win the title
- 33:29Speaker 2: this year, which I think is the expectation. Do you
- 33:32Speaker 2: see any chance that C.J. Carr would be a long
- 33:34Speaker 2: term player there?
- 33:35Speaker 8: I was just talking to my analyst on the drive
- 33:38Speaker 8: over about this Yogi Roth. And I think, I mean,
- 33:41Speaker 8: I don't know where it goes ultimately, but I do
- 33:43Speaker 8: think it's a conversation where it wasn't a conversation in
- 33:46Speaker 8: the past. And I don't know the exact number CJ
- 33:48Speaker 8: Carr is making, but he's one of the best quarterbacks
- 33:50Speaker 8: in the country.
- 33:51Speaker 5: He's at Notre Dame. I mean, it's, I'm sure it's
- 33:53Speaker 5: a pretty big number.
- 33:54Speaker 8: So if he loves it at ND, if he loves
- 33:58Speaker 8: playing for Mike Denbrock, the offensive coordinator, if he stays,
- 34:01Speaker 8: if they keep a lot of talent at receiver and,
- 34:04Speaker 8: At the very least, it's a discussion with him and
- 34:06Speaker 8: his family and maybe it's a reality. And I think
- 34:09Speaker 8: that's one of the cool parts of NIL is that
- 34:11Speaker 8: some of these players who are defining college football right
- 34:14Speaker 8: now because of the money they're making, they may choose
- 34:17Speaker 8: to stay instead of coming out and going to a
- 34:19Speaker 8: team that who knows, you know, maybe he'd rather be
- 34:21Speaker 8: the quarterback at Notre Dame than one or two of
- 34:24Speaker 8: the teams that are in the top five.
- 34:25Speaker 3: You know, clearly Marcus Freeman has a national title-ish team there,
- 34:28Speaker 3: especially on the defensive Their schedule, in some parts, is
- 34:31Speaker 3: not the hardest. And that's fair to say, as opposed
- 34:33Speaker 3: to some other teams. You don't want a loss. I
- 34:36Speaker 3: hate when people say they need a loss. But do
- 34:38Speaker 3: you need a tester game? Do you need a surprise
- 34:40Speaker 3: game where Notre Dame's down like 10 points to start
- 34:42Speaker 3: the fourth quarter? Do you need that before the playoffs?
- 34:45Speaker 8: I think it's a great point, and I think it's
- 34:47Speaker 8: something that the coaches would say they would want as well.
- 34:50Speaker 8: They play at BYU, nationally ranked team here coming up,
- 34:54Speaker 8: so that'll be a tough one. Again, their pass defense
- 34:57Speaker 8: is going to be tested here tomorrow, like it has
- 35:00Speaker 8: in this entire year. But I think ideally, if you
- 35:04Speaker 8: pick out the perfect scenario, you're a Notre Dame coach
- 35:06Speaker 8: or fan, they're still unbeaten when they take on Miami,
- 35:09Speaker 8: but they've been in some tough games, some one-score games
- 35:12Speaker 8: in the third and fourth quarter by the time they
- 35:14Speaker 8: get there.
- 35:15Speaker 3: You played at Iowa. We talked about Iowa a little
- 35:17Speaker 3: bit earlier. Sometimes there's those teams where early in the season,
- 35:20Speaker 3: they're 3-0, 4-0, and you think they could do something.
- 35:22Speaker 3: Iowa's got a great defense. And when you look at
- 35:25Speaker 3: a team like Iowa in the Big Ten, they're going
- 35:28Speaker 3: up against Penn State soon. They're at Michigan tomorrow. What
- 35:31Speaker 3: does a team like Iowa need to do to take
- 35:33Speaker 3: that jump and get to the playoffs?
- 35:35Speaker 8: Well, I was got a super tough stretch here coming up, guys.
- 35:37Speaker 8: They've got Michigan tomorrow afternoon. They've got Ohio State at
- 35:41Speaker 8: home and they're at Washington. I know Washington hasn't been
- 35:44Speaker 8: their best yet, but that's a really good team, too.
- 35:46Speaker 8: So that three game stretch is going to tell us
- 35:49Speaker 8: a lot about them. Iowa, in some ways, guys, only
- 35:53Speaker 8: the names change. The defense is fantastic. I think ranked
- 35:55Speaker 8: number one in the country. They have a better passing
- 35:58Speaker 8: game than usual. They really like Hank Brown. They've got
- 36:01Speaker 8: some pass catchers of the caliber that they haven't had
- 36:03Speaker 8: for a while. So keep an eye on Iowa these
- 36:06Speaker 8: next three weeks, not just because I went there, but.
- 36:09Speaker 5: I think they're better than people think.
- 36:11Speaker 8: And they've got some, I mean, these are beyond litmus
- 36:13Speaker 8: tests they've got the next three weeks.
- 36:15Speaker 5: These are really tough games.
- 36:16Speaker 3: Okay, Paul, you know us, Perloff and Pabst. You know
- 36:18Speaker 3: how we roll. We've hung out with you before. I
- 36:20Speaker 3: think we hung out like at a Brown-Dartmouth game years ago,
- 36:23Speaker 3: which is very random.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Ivy League, yeah.
- 36:26Speaker 3: We do a thing here called such thing as a
- 36:27Speaker 3: dumb question. You play quarterback. We never did. Not even close.
- 36:31Speaker 3: He was in the band. I played archery. When you're
- 36:33Speaker 3: at halftime and you're the starting quarterback at Iowa or
- 36:36Speaker 3: in an NFL team, what does the quarterback do at halftime?
- 36:39Speaker 3: We probably think they go to the bathroom, get an
- 36:42Speaker 3: orange slice. Do they meet with certain people? Do they
- 36:44Speaker 3: talk to their team? Walk us through halftime for a
- 36:46Speaker 3: pro quarterback or a college quarterback.
- 36:48Speaker 5: Great question. All I know is how we did it
- 36:51Speaker 5: in Iowa City back in the day.
- 36:53Speaker 8: And I don't know if you guys have been to
- 36:54Speaker 8: Kinnick Stadium, but our locker rooms back then were on
- 36:56Speaker 8: the opposite side of the field as the press box.
- 36:59Speaker 8: So our coaches literally had to take an old elevator down,
- 37:03Speaker 8: sprint across the field, get up to our locker room,
- 37:06Speaker 8: which is a lot of steps. And probably talked to
- 37:08Speaker 8: us for about three minutes. So the most important part
- 37:11Speaker 8: for me was talking to the other quarterbacks about what
- 37:14Speaker 8: they saw. And that was the most helpful just because
- 37:19Speaker 8: our coordinator only had a couple minutes to chat with
- 37:21Speaker 8: us by the time he made it all the way
- 37:22Speaker 8: over there.
- 37:23Speaker 5: So thankfully, we all got along.
- 37:25Speaker 8: And I trusted the other guys in that room because
- 37:28Speaker 8: most of the halftime was with my fellow QBs as
- 37:31Speaker 8: opposed to the coaches.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Oh, that is interesting. No rah-rah speech? No get fired up?
- 37:36Speaker 2: Nothing like that?
- 37:37Speaker 5: Sometimes get yelled at if I wasn't playing well, but no.
- 37:41Speaker 5: Not too many rah-rah speeches, no.
- 37:42Speaker 2: That was a rare occasion when you weren't on point
- 37:44Speaker 2: at Iowa. Paul, thanks for your time. Say hi to
- 37:46Speaker 2: Yogi for us. We had him on. Absolutely. Awesome. Enjoy
- 37:50Speaker 2: the game. 2 o'clock on Peacock. No name at Purdue.
- 37:52Speaker 2: We'll talk to you later, Paul.
- 37:54Speaker 5: Good to see you guys.
- 37:54Speaker 3: Thanks for having me. Former Big Ten quarterback. Remember back
- 37:59Speaker 3: in the day, Iowa had the tight ends that stood
- 38:00Speaker 3: upright at the line of scrimmage? I wanted to ask
- 38:02Speaker 3: him about that. Maybe next time.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Alright, Paul. It is a big college football weekend, not
- 38:06Speaker 2: only in the rankings, but for the Heisman.
- 38:09Speaker 3: Let's play a little getting the Heisman. I'm ready to play.
- 38:11Speaker 3: We do it every week here. Your guy, Camario Taylor
- 38:14Speaker 3: at Mississippi State. Big weekend for him. You've got to
- 38:16Speaker 3: like that. Arch Mannings. Here's Arch Mannings' next six weeks. Tennessee, Oklahoma, Florida...
- 38:23Speaker 3: Ole Miss. Mississippi State, Mizzou, and LSU. If you run
- 38:28Speaker 3: through that, you're going to New York. You're probably going
- 38:31Speaker 3: to New York anyway.
- 38:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it's all about wins and losses. He could probably
- 38:34Speaker 2: afford two losses and still be.
- 38:36Speaker 3: Does he seem a little low there in the odds?
- 38:37Speaker 2: Well, he hasn't played that great. Here's the guy who
- 38:40Speaker 2: I think is going to fall, and this is not
- 38:41Speaker 2: going to be popular. I think Trinidad and Chavalis has
- 38:44Speaker 2: been amazing. I think he's a first-round pick. I think
- 38:46Speaker 2: Ole Miss is going to come back to earth. If
- 38:48Speaker 2: it's not against Florida, it's soon, because they look terrible
- 38:51Speaker 2: in the second half against Louisville. They look terrible against
- 38:53Speaker 2: LSU in the second half. I think they're due a loss.
- 38:56Speaker 2: I hate to be that guy. I get why Florida's favored.
- 38:59Speaker 2: So if Ole Miss loses and Chambliss falls off, Mensa's
- 39:02Speaker 2: got injuries.
- 39:03Speaker 3: That's what I was going to ask you. Your guy,
- 39:04Speaker 3: Darian Mensa, the quarterback at Miami, does he have enough
- 39:07Speaker 3: big games in the next four weeks?
- 39:08Speaker 2: Well, no. He's got Notre Dame, which you talked to
- 39:10Speaker 2: Paul about, in November. You don't want anything in the
- 39:13Speaker 2: next four weeks, Paul. You know the Heisman.
- 39:14Speaker 3: That's a closing game.
- 39:15Speaker 2: That's a closing game. Voters look at November games much
- 39:19Speaker 2: more closely than now. Who cares if Miami beats Florida
- 39:21Speaker 2: A & M? But Menta and Miami, they have to
- 39:24Speaker 2: stay healthy. The running game went away last Friday night
- 39:27Speaker 2: and all of a sudden Mensah couldn't complete a pass.
- 39:29Speaker 2: So I think there's a long way to go. I
- 39:31Speaker 2: feel like my pick, Malachi Toney, is fifth in odds.
- 39:34Speaker 2: I'm sticking there.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Sticking with him. And Smith from Ohio State, he's still
- 39:38Speaker 3: in the mix?
- 39:39Speaker 2: Oh, my God. Jeremiah Smith's third in the odds. I
- 39:41Speaker 2: have a feeling it could be a wide receiver, not
- 39:44Speaker 2: a quarterback. But we'll see. It's a huge weekend.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a lot of fun. A lot coming up
- 39:48Speaker 3: this weekend.
- 39:48Speaker 2: All right. Paul, we'll get more into some of the
- 39:49Speaker 2: college games, and we'll talk about our headlines for Monday
- 39:53Speaker 2: next on Not So Fast.
- 39:55Speaker 3: Pabst and Perloff here from Not So Fast. We're outside
- 39:58Speaker 3: because it's beautiful in this fall, and it's time to eat, drink,
- 40:02Speaker 3: and watch football. That's what we do. It's time for
- 40:03Speaker 3: the Pub and Grub of the Week. We do it
- 40:05Speaker 3: every week here on social media. You give us your ideas,
- 40:07Speaker 3: your recommendations, help people out. We're going to State College Pennsylvania.
- 40:12Speaker 3: Penn State got a home game this weekend. You've been there.
- 40:14Speaker 3: Fill us in.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Are you kidding me? I grew up in Philadelphia. State
- 40:17Speaker 2: College is a big deal for Philadelphians. You go Hershey Park,
- 40:20Speaker 2: then you go see Penn State, and it's amazing. It's
- 40:23Speaker 2: this massive football stadium, comes out of nowhere in the fields,
- 40:26Speaker 2: and the town is cool too.
- 40:27Speaker 3: I can't believe I haven't been there. E on me.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Here we go. A lot of recommendations, a lot of feedback.
- 40:33Speaker 3: McClanahan's Downtown Market. Now, when you walk up, it looks
- 40:36Speaker 3: like a grocery store because it is. But it's a
- 40:38Speaker 3: grocery store that has a deli, and then it has
- 40:40Speaker 3: a full bar in the back. It's a place where
- 40:42Speaker 3: you can do your own taps. You control your own taps.
- 40:45Speaker 3: So you walk in, you grab a basket, you get
- 40:48Speaker 3: yourself a big sandwich, you maybe get some stuff for
- 40:50Speaker 3: the kids at home. Then you go over, pull some taps,
- 40:53Speaker 3: and they've got TVs to watch football. It's a market
- 40:56Speaker 3: and a bar together. That's genius. McClanahan's Downtown Market.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Your thoughts? A grocery store with make-your-own-beer? This sounds like
- 41:03Speaker 2: the best grocery store in the world.
- 41:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I think we should go there now. And I
- 41:07Speaker 3: mean now, like now, we should leave here and get
- 41:08Speaker 3: in a car. It's like five hours. McClanahan's Downtown Market.
- 41:12Speaker 3: Give us your ideas, Penn State or other. We do
- 41:14Speaker 3: this every week. It's called the Pub and Grub of
- 41:15Speaker 3: the Week.
- 41:17Speaker 2: Welcome back, Not So Fast. A lot going on there.
- 41:19Speaker 2: By the way, next time we do that video, I
- 41:21Speaker 2: should stand in back because I look gigantic. But Paul,
- 41:23Speaker 2: this is a grocery store that has a bar and
- 41:26Speaker 2: a restaurant? Yeah, yeah.
- 41:27Speaker 3: I'm embarrassed at two things in my life. I've never
- 41:29Speaker 3: been to a Penn State home game. I've never been
- 41:31Speaker 3: to McClanahan's. So you go through the deli And then
- 41:34Speaker 3: there's just taps everywhere in TVs. It's like heaven. I
- 41:36Speaker 3: don't know who invented this, but they're a genius.
- 41:38Speaker 2: The tailgating is weird there, though, because there are these
- 41:40Speaker 2: big grass parking lots. It's all over the place. You're
- 41:44Speaker 2: in a cornfield tailgating, which is kind of cool. You
- 41:46Speaker 2: don't think of Penn State necessarily as rural. It is.
- 41:49Speaker 3: I'll tailgate anywhere. I'll tailgate at a funeral, for God's sake.
- 41:52Speaker 3: Sign me up.
- 41:52Speaker 2: All right, Paul, let's jump into Monday's leads today. You
- 41:56Speaker 2: want to go first or you want me to go?
- 41:57Speaker 3: I'll go first, and I think this is a big one.
- 41:59Speaker 3: Chargers versus Bills, the result of that is going to
- 42:02Speaker 3: be one of the Monday leads. And I think everyone's
- 42:04Speaker 3: expecting the Bills to handle this. But after what happened
- 42:06Speaker 3: last night, I look at the Chargers a little differently.
- 42:09Speaker 3: I don't think the Chargers could be as bad as
- 42:11Speaker 3: they've been the past couple weeks. And I'm picking the
- 42:13Speaker 3: Chargers to win this one. and totally turn it around
- 42:16Speaker 3: for one day, and the Bills are going to get
- 42:17Speaker 3: lit up if they lose this game.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Wow, that's a really bold call. I don't know how
- 42:21Speaker 2: the Falcons playing well will help the Chargers on the field.
- 42:23Speaker 3: It's like osmosis. Hey, we could do that too. We
- 42:26Speaker 3: stunk two weeks, but we could have a great game.
- 42:28Speaker 2: Okay, so the Chargers have done a lot of things wrong.
- 42:31Speaker 2: They have not blocked for Justin Herbert. Justin Herbert has
- 42:34Speaker 2: not made good decisions. They can't run the ball, and
- 42:36Speaker 2: their pass defense has not been good.
- 42:38Speaker 3: Other than that?
- 42:39Speaker 2: All of this is very, very bad for Buffalo because
- 42:42Speaker 2: the Bills have been amazing in everything. They've been getting
- 42:45Speaker 2: after the quarterback, and Josh Allen is perfect. So I
- 42:50Speaker 2: like this, and we will definitely pull this back if
- 42:52Speaker 2: you're right. I don't know, Paul. You got a little
- 42:54Speaker 2: lucky with the Falcons, I think.
- 42:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so. They just told me they'll pull
- 42:57Speaker 3: this back when I'm wrong as well. What do you got?
- 42:59Speaker 2: I'm going to stay in L.A. for my Monday's headline.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Sunday night, Rams at Broncos. Really close spread. This is
- 43:04Speaker 2: my Super Bowl pick. I think the Rams have an
- 43:07Speaker 2: impressive win here. This is going to be a really,
- 43:09Speaker 2: really close game. I don't think we're going to see
- 43:11Speaker 2: a lot of Puka Nakua, maybe no Puka Nakua. So
- 43:13Speaker 2: it's a challenge for the Rams. But the Broncos were
- 43:16Speaker 2: inconsistent against the Jags. They didn't look good for three quarters.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Then they played Bronco football. You can't do that against
- 43:21Speaker 2: the Rams. I think people got down on L.A. because
- 43:24Speaker 2: of Australia. There's no need. They have plenty of rest.
- 43:27Speaker 2: We're going to put that story to bed. I think
- 43:29Speaker 2: we come in Monday saying the Rams are back. Dream team.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Remember all that preseason talk? I think it's back on
- 43:36Speaker 2: when we come back here.
- 43:37Speaker 3: Even if there's injuries, even though Miles Garrett, let's say
- 43:39Speaker 3: Puka doesn't play out of another abundance of caution, you
- 43:41Speaker 3: think the backups can handle things?
- 43:43Speaker 2: I think so. It's a close spread, two and a
- 43:45Speaker 2: half point favorite for L.A. You know what? People are
- 43:48Speaker 2: going to say, what is this team going to be
- 43:50Speaker 2: when Miles Garrett gets back, when Nakua gets back, when
- 43:52Speaker 2: Aaron Donald sort of gets his sea legs underneath him? Ugh.
- 43:55Speaker 2: Second half of the season, the Rams are going to
- 43:57Speaker 2: be tough.
- 43:57Speaker 3: That's what I think. I think the second half they are.
- 43:59Speaker 3: I like the Broncos here, and I think we're going
- 44:01Speaker 3: to get to it in our Keep It Friendly picks,
- 44:02Speaker 3: but the Broncos feel like they better right the ship
- 44:05Speaker 3: pretty quick because they don't want to get where they're
- 44:07Speaker 3: chasing a little bit. I think the Rams are going
- 44:09Speaker 3: to be just fine. That talent's going to work itself out.
- 44:11Speaker 3: When Puka and Miles are back, they're going to be unstoppable.
- 44:13Speaker 2: Remember that narrative, Bo Nix wins all the close games
- 44:15Speaker 2: last year. So if this is a close game, that's
- 44:18Speaker 2: when Bo Nix shines, but you're not going to shine
- 44:20Speaker 2: against the Rams tonight. This is a very, very important game.
- 44:23Speaker 3: All right, let's chop up some more games. Let's keep
- 44:25Speaker 3: it friendly. We like to bet a little bit. We
- 44:26Speaker 3: actually bet real money, usually 20 a game. I think
- 44:29Speaker 3: you're up on me, Pearl. Let's start with that one.
- 44:31Speaker 3: Let's start with Rams at Broncos. Rams are giving 2.5.
- 44:34Speaker 3: I will let you pick your team.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Well, I already went Rams. I've got to stick with that,
- 44:37Speaker 2: and I think they cover. It's going to be a tight,
- 44:40Speaker 2: interesting game. You know the total is only 43.5? With
- 44:44Speaker 2: Bo Nix and Matthew Stafford, that's really low.
- 44:46Speaker 3: That's probably the lowest in the Stafford area.
- 44:47Speaker 2: I think that's a function of Denver. Sean Payton and
- 44:50Speaker 2: Sean McVay should be a lot higher. I like the
- 44:52Speaker 2: Rams to win.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Okay, I'll take the Broncos as I like them a
- 44:55Speaker 3: little bit. Vikings at the Buccaneers. Man, this is huge. Vikings,
- 44:58Speaker 3: one and a half point favorite. I wouldn't say it's
- 45:01Speaker 3: the last call for the Bucs, but they better get
- 45:03Speaker 3: it together.
- 45:03Speaker 2: Well, okay, if you're inspired by Atlanta for the Chargers,
- 45:06Speaker 2: why wouldn't you be inspired for the Bucs, a home
- 45:08Speaker 2: game against a team with a new quarterback? I think
- 45:11Speaker 2: this is a Tampa bounce back.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Yeah, this is going to be really interesting. And the
- 45:15Speaker 3: fallout from this game, if Kyler Murray loses and plays poorly,
- 45:18Speaker 3: I don't know how long that leash is.
- 45:21Speaker 2: No, they like Carson Wentz, I think. You know what?
- 45:24Speaker 2: The Bucs are a big concern. Is Baker Mayfield still
- 45:27Speaker 2: good without Mike Evans? I'm a little worried about that.
- 45:29Speaker 3: And it doesn't matter because he's got three years and
- 45:30Speaker 3: $ 50 million per year to do whatever he's going to
- 45:33Speaker 3: do down there. Oregon at USC, one of my hammer
- 45:35Speaker 3: games of the weekend. Oregon giving three to USC. USC's
- 45:38Speaker 3: 4-0 with some light opponents.
- 45:40Speaker 2: Yeah, no, Oregon does not look great. I think the
- 45:43Speaker 2: talent differential shows here, though. I know USC's got some
- 45:46Speaker 2: great young players, but... Has USC won a big, tough
- 45:49Speaker 2: game like this since they got to the Big Ten, Paul?
- 45:51Speaker 3: They haven't had more than 10 wins in seven years.
- 45:54Speaker 3: I'm going to go with you on this one. I'm
- 45:55Speaker 3: not taking USC. Oregon has to right the ship. They
- 45:57Speaker 3: should do fine. They've gotten their wake-up call a couple
- 46:00Speaker 3: weeks ago. USC, young talent, not experienced talent.
- 46:03Speaker 2: Is Dante Moore playing inconsistently and poorly just so he
- 46:06Speaker 2: makes sure the Jets don't pick him, Paul?
- 46:08Speaker 3: You're going to have to ask him. He skipped the
- 46:09Speaker 3: draft last year because he didn't want to go to
- 46:11Speaker 3: a couple teams. Last one. Texas Longhorns at Tennessee. The
- 46:15Speaker 3: Manning Bowl. This is fantastic. And this game's at noon.
- 46:18Speaker 3: You better wake up and be ready for this one, Perloff.
- 46:20Speaker 3: I'm going to call you. Texas has given four.
- 46:22Speaker 2: No, it's funny. People are jumping on Tennessee all over.
- 46:26Speaker 2: They worry that the spread is too small so the
- 46:28Speaker 2: Sharps know something about Texas. To me, I look at
- 46:31Speaker 2: the age of quarterbacks. Arch Maddox, 22. Faison Brandon, the
- 46:34Speaker 2: freshman at Tennessee, is 18 or 19.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Yeah, true freshman.
- 46:37Speaker 2: I always go with the older guy. So I know
- 46:40Speaker 2: Texas is vulnerable. We still don't really know if Texas
- 46:42Speaker 2: can play consistently. They had the comeback against Ohio State,
- 46:45Speaker 2: but they looked pretty bad the first three quarters. I
- 46:47Speaker 2: still like the Longhorns, although I've got to be honest,
- 46:49Speaker 2: there is a lot of movement out there towards Tennessee.
- 46:52Speaker 3: Okay, here we go. Before we wrap up today, big week,
- 46:55Speaker 3: a lot of football, college football. We're spent, but we're
- 46:57Speaker 3: ready to go. A nap today, watching football. I think
- 47:00Speaker 3: we got Indiana versus Northwestern tonight, but let's get to it.
- 47:03Speaker 3: The feel good, and this is one of the best
- 47:04Speaker 3: since Not So Fast has been on the air. Here
- 47:06Speaker 3: we go. This is Cubs. Ian Happ, number eight, fan favorite.
- 47:11Speaker 3: What's he throwing there, a baseball? No, a baseball with
- 47:14Speaker 3: $ 300 wrapped around it. He's buying beers, which I don't
- 47:17Speaker 3: know how many beers you could buy for $ 300, but
- 47:19Speaker 3: he's buying a lot of beers for the bleacher section.
- 47:21Speaker 2: And he's sort of a free agent who's probably on
- 47:23Speaker 2: his way out of town. Is that the story?
- 47:24Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the move. In case we don't come here again,
- 47:27Speaker 3: if I'm on another team for on the raise next year,
- 47:30Speaker 3: here's some stuff from Ian Hepton. Three bills? That's pretty cool.
- 47:33Speaker 2: I've got to be honest, that is one of the
- 47:35Speaker 2: coolest baseball moves I've ever seen. How can you not
- 47:37Speaker 2: like this guy now?
- 47:38Speaker 3: Yeah, and now there's pressure, though. Is that like setting precedent?
- 47:41Speaker 3: It's like the thing where if you catch a foul
- 47:42Speaker 3: ball and you're an adult, you have to hand it
- 47:44Speaker 3: to a kid. If you're leaving a team or you
- 47:46Speaker 3: might be a free agent, Pencil out some shackles to
- 47:48Speaker 3: the fans.
- 47:49Speaker 2: And football. I am a little worried about that. I
- 47:50Speaker 2: don't like to see too much sloppy football.
- 47:52Speaker 3: You know where we stand on weather. Play through.
- 47:54Speaker 2: You bought the ticket. Take the ride.
- 47:56Speaker 3: How many beers?
- 47:57Speaker 2: There's lightning in the area.
- 47:58Speaker 3: You're looking at $ 14 a beer. What is that? I
- 48:00Speaker 3: think that's under 20 beers. I'm a bit of a
- 48:02Speaker 3: lightning rod. That's what they say. That's it for Not
- 48:04Speaker 3: So Fast. A lot coming up on Monday.
- 48:06Speaker 2: The Dan Patrick Show coming up on Monday.
- 48:07Speaker 3: I think it's Herman Edwards.
- 48:09Speaker 2: Huge weekend in baseball. Way to win the game.
- 48:11Speaker 3: Play to win the game. Then come right over here
- 48:13Speaker 3: with us. Peacock, NBC Sports, NBCSN. Hang with Not So Fast.
- 48:17Speaker 3: It was a great week. Thanks to all the crew
- 48:19Speaker 3: behind the scenes.
- 48:19Speaker 2: Great week.
- 48:20Speaker 3: A lot of fun.
- 48:21Speaker 5: See you on Monday.
