Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_02: How do you balance aging gracefully and still being confident now that you're starting to see those changes versus when you're young and 20 and you don't see those changes?
- 0:08SPEAKER_01: I think maybe it's a level of not knowing what it's gonna feel like to be in our parents' position.
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: And yeah, it's just I mean, I'll stand by, we're inevitably getting older, and I think the fear of dying is at least a very huge thing for me.
- 0:28SPEAKER_02: When I think too much about it, it creates a lot of fear for me.
- 0:33SPEAKER_02: I mean, we like us getting older, our parents, the people around us, just the collective movement of getting older.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: To be honest, when I was sitting in that chair, I was like, oh, maybe I'll just do it.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: And then when I show up to because we're going to that Santa Barbara trip, I'll show up and I'll be like, everyone, I just got bought off.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: That's the part that I kind of want to address.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: What's it making me notice it now?
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: Is it because people our age are talking about it more?
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Is it because the algorithm on my social media is showing me this more?
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: And so now I'm feeling wait, I'm at that age, I'm past that age, so I've been thinking about this.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Is this something that actually changed in my face and now I'm thinking about it?
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: What is real and what's not?
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: And what's made from being influence by what I see around me, and what's made from oh no, I actually just want to take care of myself.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, speaking of mirrors and reflection and beauty standards and all that, you had a skincare appointment this week and it got you thinking about Botox.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: When I tell you, okay, I'll give you a backup story.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: When I went to Hawaii, I found this lab skin thing and they promoted the you know the Skin Celtics Brayand.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Have you ever used their products?
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Skin Celtics.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: I actually heard a lot of people that loved it, and I went in there because they do a lot of treatments.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: If you get botox or whatever, they have post products for that treatment that keep it as alive as possible.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: So I went in there because they partner with that product.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: And so they give me a consult of treatment that I should get, and then okay, whatever, I'll just get a consult on botox.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: And then obviously, the girls that do botox, they look so normal and so bready.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: It I would never tell.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: I would just say, oh, they just really have great skin.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: So I was like, okay, I trust that, right?
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: And she was telling me, she got kind of give me an estimate.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: And so she said that she would do 20 units on me.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: And basically I told her what I wanted because this I call this wrinkle, but it's really just like a tiny little line right here that needs to be bothering me.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: And I told you about this.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: And so I was like, Why would you do?
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: And she said, Well, I just put things around it, and that's it.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: You're you're fine, and you probably won't see it in like a few weeks.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: So she said 20 units, and then she was like, Yeah, come back.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: And then last weekend I went to get just hair laser removal.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: So to answer your question, I wasn't getting any microneodoline or anything because I'm trying to get rid of this little acne that I have so I can actually do microneedling.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: So I did then laser removal, which every time I do hair laser removal, I still feel my face looks amazing when I leave.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: Even just get it that laser, and it's just down here.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: So I was in there, and then the girl that was here that was doing my laser, she also looks amazing.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: And I was like, okay, if I I want to stick in a feeding, what would you think?
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: And she was like, honestly, this is what I will do.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: What I really love about her is that she explained to me what happens when people actually get botched, right?
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: When you put an injection in the wrong place and then you mess up the smile or something.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: And so she was explaining to me something that I didn't even realize, which is the CrossFits that because we don't want CrossFits.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: CrossFit.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what we're running away from, right?
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: And so she was explaining to me that some people develop really strong CrossFit that it not only just goes right here, it just lingers down towards your cheeks.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Mine goes like that.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: Well, you can't see it.
- 4:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you can't see it right now.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: When I have a lot of like drier makeup on and I smile, I feel it's it goes down, but it doesn't bother me.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, so she said that the only way they can miss it out is if but you don't have super no, it's not easy.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: So the people that it's the women that haven't done bug dogs, and then they have those intense lines, and then they want the what is it?
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: What is it called?
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: The injector, the injector to actually put buttocks on this area.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: That's the area that nobody will mess around with because that can actually pinch the muscle in your skin, and you will be non-smiling.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: Literally, that section would not move.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: But I was like, okay, so that's what people talk about.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Because I've heard people say that the eye area was kind of sensitive and you shouldn't do it around it.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: So that kind of helped.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: I think really knowing it's so much better.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: I was kind of like, okay, should I do it?
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: Should I not do it?
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: I was this close to just be like, fuck it, just do it.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Don't let me think about it.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: Because I told her about my tattoo, how I was wanting to get a tattoo.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: My friend went with me and we sat down and we just went through the process.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: She was like, you can say no up to the point where you're I'm not gonna do it.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: So when he put her around, just do it, just do it.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: I just jump in it.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: But I know this is a little bit different.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: And what I really like about her though, she said that she would only do 16.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: She was like, I'll only do 16 units on you.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: This is the part that I'm annoyed because that other girl was about to put extra if that was gonna be even more expensive because each unit is so expensive.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: Then having second opinions, in my opinion, the best way to go.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: I told her, like, maybe I should do it.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: And she was like, Okay, you need to take a couple of weeks, think about it, sleep on it, and then we'll reconvene.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: But that's what I was thinking.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: But it's kind of a trippy thing because I feel I used to say I wouldn't do it, but when you change ages, and now that we're in our 30s, it's a very interesting concept to navigate because obviously I wasn't into it like in my 20s, and now I'm considering so we wanted to talk about today.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, because there's that balance to your point too of are you taking care of yourself?
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: Are you afraid to get old?
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: Beauty standards have changed, procedures have changed.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: So, and I get being against it, and yeah, I guess for women especially, it's our transition.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: Well, now I look more mature.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: Like now my cheeks are hollowed out because I don't have baby fat anymore, and now I have crow's feet, and now I have 11s because I make mad faces and I have forehead wrinkles or whatever it is.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: And so, how do you balance aging gracefully and still being confident now that you're starting to see those changes versus when you're young and 20 and you don't see those changes?
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: But you know something that's very interesting?
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: I didn't start noticing this line until recently, and then I was like, why am I noticing this line so much?
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: I didn't care before.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: And I went back into my camera role.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: That line was there for a while, I just never noticed it until recently, and so that's the part that I kind of want to address.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: What's it making me notice it now?
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Is it because people are age are talking about it more?
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: Is it because the algorithm on my social media is showing me this more?
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: And so now I'm feeling wait, I'm at that age, I'm past that age, like be thinking about this.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: Is this something that actually changed in my face and now I'm thinking about it?
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: What is real and what's not?
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: And what's made from being influenced by what I see around me, and what's made from, oh no, I actually just want to take care of myself.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: Isn't that interesting?
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm thinking too what made a media make that decision to finally do that because I've been getting Botox since I was 22, 23.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: I want to say it was 23.
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: And for me, because I wasn't really in the skincare, that sort of skincare with like fillers, Botox, all that stuff.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: That wasn't really my algorithm at that time.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: I just knew about it.
- 8:39SPEAKER_02: And I was waking up every morning and just like looked deflated and dehydrated, and it's because I had a weird schedule for work, and I was waking up with fine lines where I was like, this doesn't make sense to me to be having this problem at my age.
- 8:53SPEAKER_02: Like I'm not looking youthful and I'm still fairly young, I'm in my early 20s.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: So that's what prompted me to start doing it.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: But there is that battle now of I'm okay.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: Well, now I'm 30 and my face is changing again.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: Do I keep up with this or do I step back and let some of those changes happen?
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: And I go back and forth, and even the muscle atrophy component of Botox.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: Do I lay off of the forehead Botox?
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: That way I can let my muscles kick in.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: And I it's funny we're having this conversation because I actually think I went four months since my last session, so more than normal.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: And I wasn't actually planning to do it again.
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: And then my injector was like, Hey, we got more units.
- 9:39SPEAKER_02: And I was like, Well, I guess if you got more, so I went in and got, I mean, I actually get 20 in my 11.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: So right here, I get 20 there alone, and then I think I do 16 in total around here, and then just for fun, I got a lip flip, which I've never done before.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: So they did clip, yeah.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: They put some units right in here.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I did a little bit more than normal, but I think I still have movement.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: I still got it.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: And when was this last week?
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: This was okay Wednesday or Thursday of last week.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: So pretty recent, but I mean it takes about a week to like really, really kick in.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: So I'm almost at double week mark.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: But honestly, when I look at you, if you never told me this, I would never know.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: And that's what I like about it.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: There is a level of that was always my goal with it.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: Like, even when I very, very first went, I had like such a conservative amount because I still wanted like some movement.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: And my I mean, you you saw I can I can move, so kind of.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: Which is like my girl now knows that I like movement.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: There's a couple of things that I want to say.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: I was listening to actually a woman that was talking about skincare and practices and all of that.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: She said that if you're doing bot talks, it's actually really good to let it worn off completely until you go again.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: Because she was like, you don't want to be upping up and adding up.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: So that's the guy now say, okay, that's a good point of view.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: And again, we're having this conversation because I think women are having to think about this and we're all thinking about it maybe on our own.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: So I love when people talk about it, especially people that are our age or close, and so we can all relate and maybe get a little bit more information and help us navigate these situations better and kind of just take the taboo out of it.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: I love that I heard that from her, and she was like, but it goes along with everything else, right?
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: Skincare, what are you eating, and all of that.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't even argue that I think we look better now than what we look like when we were in college.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: Because when I go back, yeah, we just look young.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: But you said it's a baby fat.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: I have a very round face and we're probably my makeup was so bad in college.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: See, I would just I never did makeup, but I go back, I just look childish because my face is round and we were drinking all the time, so we're probably swollen.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: I actually like the way we look now more because it's more put together and it's more womanly than when we're in our 20s.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: This could be also our generation because we're aging differently, but then again, it's finding that balance and that limit of okay, my skin actually looks really good now.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: I think ever since we started having this conversation about skincare, I felt so overwhelmed back then.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: And now I was telling you about skin Celtics, which this is the one brand that I will say is no bullshit.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: Because I've had already at this point tried a lot of different eye creams and all of that.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: And this one is actually doing the things that it says it does, which is one is this Ps serum.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: And when I put it on, it looks like my face tighten up, like it lifts it up, it's very glowy and nice.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: Then there's other this one that the vitamin C smells like coffee, which one I love, and I don't know why, the best smell ever.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: And then two, it also again, my face feels tight, it lifts it up.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: And then because I'm dealing with my acne, they give me this green-looking thing that doesn't just like their background, it looks so ugly, but it calms my skin.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: So I just put it in the areas where I feel irritation and pimples are coming, and it just really calms it down.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: So now I get when people say I swear by this because I do am getting these results from just this, but I could just be doing the botox too, and it'll be complete, right?
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it's just that back and forth of when it's enough.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't know.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think that's all subjective to like each person, right?
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: To your opinions and your thoughts on when it is enough.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: But I do think like I'm both jealous of women who love aging and embracing it, and then also at the same time feel confident in how I look now.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: So I get your point in saying that, but then at the same time, I also do think it's a little bit scary to see my face age in ways that I don't always love.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: And I think I've had to kind of retrain my brain to be okay with that basically.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: And my crow's feet actually don't bother me and my smile lines, and maybe one day they will.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: But as a feedback doesn't bother me, yeah, yeah.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, I'm kind of a the dimples are a lost cause for me.
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: This one day is going to be a giant wrinkle, and I can't do anything about that.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: But I'm not, I'm never gonna be able to put Botox right there on my face.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: But I did want to pause real quick because I don't think I know we're talking about the Botox component, but I also don't think we talk enough about adult acne and how that affects you when you are in your mid-20s, when you're 30.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: And tell me about it.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: I don't think we talk about adult acne enough because I know that you've been battling this for a while, and my mom also has adult acne.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: I get like minor things here and there, and I think that that also affects like how you feel about yourself and aging and beauty standards, and you think I'm an adult.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: Why am I having acne?
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: That's what I had when I was 16.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: But I know like I had a really, really bad breakout when I was like 26.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: I want to say I might have been 27, and I I've never had chest acne, I have never had back acne, and it was so bad.
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: I was so uncomfortable.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: I couldn't wear anything that showed my chest or my back, and it took a long time for me to get it under control, and it was nonstop.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: I I've never seen my skin like this.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: I went to a person that does facials on your back and extractions on your back.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: Like I got on uh spiralactylin or some whatever that pill is.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: I had ketoconazole shampoo, all this stuff, and then I started getting cysts, and I've also never had cysts so I'm 26 and I'm now having all of this stuff that I've never had, and I'm just mostly getting cyst on my chin.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: And again, it was like, what is going on?
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: Like I thought I was out of the age of having severe acne, and this is the worst acne I've ever had in my entire life, and I'm an adult, and I was able to get that under control, and now years later, I mostly just get small things here and there, which yeah, it's nice, but still it's like, why am I getting this?
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: What am I supposed to do?
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: Why do I have pop marks on my face?
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: Because obviously I tick and whatever.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: Do you feel you were going through something around that time?
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Was there anything around your life that you weren't dealing with that was putting a lot of stress in you?
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, and yeah, there was a huge stress there in my life, and I think that maybe my body was physically responding to what was happening in my life at that time.
- 17:02SPEAKER_02: But I also have had friends go through something similar and they didn't have the same kind of situation going on.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: But it could have been something different, and the reason why I'm saying this is because I mean we get stressed for so many different things, like the things that trigger us, we don't know, and they can come at any time.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: I listened to a lot of people talking about nothing ages you more than being stressed.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: Stress is the number one aging cause of people, and if we were to able to control that and pull it back a little bit, we will be aging less.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: I still think our generation is doing so much better.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: I literally go to places last weekend.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: Where was I?
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: I went to an eye appointment and she was getting super close.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: My eyesight has never been since I was three.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: And then this woman is just getting chatty and she's not gonna be about my boyfriend and always have for him to propose.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: I'm like, no, you know, we're taking our time.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: And she's like, I mean, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: What what do you do for work?
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: For like, where do you go to school?
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: And I was like, no, I work.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: And then she was like, Oh, you work.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: What a compliment.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: I know, and then she says, like, oh, you look you're 20.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, No, you're kidding.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: And she was like, No, you look like you're 20.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: And it's so interesting because before, and this is going back to how you take everything as you get older.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: Before I don't care, I don't want to look 20.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: You know, why are you saying that?
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: But now I'm oh, do I look 20?
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: Why would I yeah, what am I gonna be looking like?
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: Oh, when you're 20.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, when you want to be told you look 20.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: No, you're saying I'm looking like a child, and so I got acne, and I do think that maybe were some things that I was internalizing because I do think that acne is your body way of saying something is off, something is wrong, something you're got, something in your mind, something is off.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: It's hard to put up you know, an exact think of what it is, but I think it's a combination of things.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: I will die on this hill.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Anything that happens to us, body and health-wise, I do think comes from a point, starts from a point of headspace and how you're dealing with things and all of that, because it's your body telling you something's off.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: So that's what I've been dealing with.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: I do feel my acne is a little bit better.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: And I'm doing a combination of things I really don't know what is working to your point.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: It does come.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter what age you are, it doesn't matter the color of your skin or how sensitive you are, or if your skin is not sensitive to anything, it will come to you.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: I don't know, if you're doing something that isn't working, because we all get them.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and unfortunately, with acne, you can't just inject your face with Botox shots.
- 19:51SPEAKER_02: You know, I mean other injections and other things, but who knows?
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: Maybe Chat GPT or our friend, our AI friends will figure out really what's the cause of acne.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: Because I do think we're still, I think the whole industry of skincare is yet to know what truly makes acne because it's not as straightforward.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: I see a lot of people saying, like, oh yeah, like I cured my gut, and it went away.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: But what was going on in your gut?
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: Do you really know?
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: And some products say that they can fix your gut, but a lot of the time this is just marketing.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: So it's really, really hard in this saturated market that we're in to really know what products actually work.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: But maybe AI will be able to identify, oh, this is where people are getting acne.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: What type of this bacteria growing in your skin?
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: Why is this happening, right?
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: I actually have a question for you.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: How many of your friends have dealt with or are currently dealing with adult acne?
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: And then how many of them also going back to the Botox conversation, how many of them are getting some sort of injection, whether it's Botox or filler?
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: I think some of our friends got Botox just for their wedding.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: I don't think they consistently do it anymore.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: Um, well, one, two, I don't think, I think two have acne.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: And one of them had really bad acne growing up, and then the other one, um, she have had acne but had bird controls, and she kind of controls it, but notches off.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: I would say 50%.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: Some of them, not all of them have tried Blood Togs.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: I think 50% of them have acne, including me.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: Okay, I would think I would say that about 80% of my friends have had adult acne at some point in their life.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: There's a there's definitely a few I can think of who I haven't really heard complain about it.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: And they have like other skin things, but not necessarily breakouts the way that we typically think of breakouts.
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: And then I would say about 50, 50 of my friends have done some sort.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Botox and injections.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: I think the more maybe Botox is a thing that the more your friends do it, the more it feels natural.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: And so like you're kind of, oh, this is my group, this is what we're all doing together.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: I might have ring later and not.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: To be honest, when I was sitting in that chair, I was like, oh, maybe I'll just do it.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: And then when I show up to because we're going to that Santa Barbara trip, I'll show up and I'll be like, everyone, I just got bottoms.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: And I was thinking of telling everyone.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: But I don't know.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: I feel maybe the more of us do it together, the more we feel like a community.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: And you feel like part of something, and it's okay because we're all doing it.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: It's so interesting because it's kind of like a childish behavior.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: But I will think that I would get more influence if all of my friends were doing it.
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: I had our injector actually come over to my apartment in New York a handful of times, and I would invite my girlfriends over who were interested.
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: And I think at one point there were, I know for sure 10, but I think up to 13 of us in my apartment to meet with my injector.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: So that's why like I think I was their ringleader because some of them had already had it, and then some of them had tried it for the first time with me and my inductor.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: And I think a good amount of them, almost all of them, continue to get it after, but not as frequent for sure.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: A little bit less.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: And they still got a same injector.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: I also think, because the way you put it is kind of in I see your face, and I really honestly if you didn't tell me, I would have known, right?
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: But I think that we have associated Botox with the reality TV shows that we see on the day-to-day.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: We see decorations, we see you know Sally Sunset, and you see this women.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: It doesn't tweet its own.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: Everyone defines beauty in their own way.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: So I respect that.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: But when I see that, that's just not the kind of thing that I'm trying to do.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: So when you think Botox, you think that's what I'm gonna look like.
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: And I think I'm starting to learn that no, you can just really enhance your features and keeping it natural.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: And you can look at it for as long as you can.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: Obviously, your body's gonna be changing, so we don't know, but this is a different thing.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: And again, I wanted to have this conversation because we just need to put up with the label that this is a bad thing to do, and that we're automatically gonna be looking all these women that they enjoy looking like that, but that doesn't necessarily mean that we are, and it's okay if that makes you happy and it makes you feel more confident and you feel beautiful and you're enhancing your video, it's okay as long as you know you're not botched or anything, and just really do your research, find a good place to go.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: I think that is important to emphasize.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: But I don't know.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: To me, I like to learn about it, I like to talk about it, I like to ask, I ask all the most annoying questions to these poor people, but I just really like to know what it is and what I'm doing, if that's something that I'm gonna do.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: In side note, I went, I showed up to my house and I was so excited and I was like, mom, I almost got Botox in my mouth.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: Almost she's so against that because she is from that direction.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: She thinks she thinks that it's just gonna be no, you really look great, blah blah blah, like you're doing all these things, you're eating well, you're having you're working out and all these things, but at the end of the day, is you're on your own journey and just do what makes you happy.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and like I'm now a doctor, so I can't tell you the negative side effects of Botox.
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: I see the videos about it, I'm sure that there's going to be something that we find out one day.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: But there's also different reasons to get it.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: And like for me, I've always called it preventative, right?
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: Like I obviously started doing it pretty young, and if I didn't, I'm sure that my forehead would look different than what it does now.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: It does look kind of crazy when the Botox wears off because I'm so expressive that I move my eyebrows a lot, and I think my forehead has had to fight against the injections for a long time.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: But outside of that, I think it really does just come down to doing what you're comfortable with.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: And you you also like can't really get Botox past a certain age or past a certain point of your face.
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: Like when you get to the point that your fine lines are not fine lines anymore, and your skin is starting to sag for lack of a better word, in certain places, Botox won't really help that.
- 26:41SPEAKER_02: It can make it worse.
- 26:42SPEAKER_02: My mom refuses to get Botox, and part of that reason why is if you were to freeze, she's her eyebrows, she naturally just raises them.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: If you were to freeze the muscles here, and then she wouldn't have that lift that she is doing manually all the time, then this would, you know, gravity, gravity's gonna bring it down.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: And so for her, that wouldn't work out.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: But for me, I don't have that.
- 27:05SPEAKER_02: So eventually I'll have to make a different decision.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: But I mean, as long as you're comfortable with the risk and you trust the person that you get to do.
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: Dude, your mom doesn't get Botox because she looks amazing.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: She's gonna love that you said that.
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, she she doesn't.
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: She gets microneedling and other facials, but yeah, yeah.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: Listen, I am not I I'm still through with the idea.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: I think I'm the kind of person that I'm like, if I'm gonna do it to do it now, or I'm just gonna sit on it and I'm gonna do it.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: But I really wanna do, I wanna try all of these things like microneodoline.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: It's just that I haven't been able to because of my acne.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: So I have an appointment in two weeks possibly to go get bothered.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: We'll see if we actually go.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: And if not, in three weeks I'm doing micronidaline, or I don't know, some like because I think you have to wait like a certain amount of days.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but but we'll see.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: So we'll keep everyone updated.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: I do want to touch on one last little thing, and it's the wanting to take care of ourselves versus actually being afraid of getting old.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: And I think I do want to address the getting old part because I think we talked about this before in our 20s.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: I never thought about age.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: I never thought about growing up.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: It's just when you're in your 20s, you don't think that's happening to you.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: And so I think you turn 30, and just seeing your friends settling down, starting to have conversations about having kids, everything that comes with that.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: I do think that sometimes that affects the way you start feeling about aging, which can also affect, okay, maybe I should be doing more things because I don't want to look older and stuff.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: But it's coming from a point of oh my god, we're actually growing up.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: What's next?
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: Because I'm gonna have kids and now they're gonna be the young ones, and we're gonna take care of them.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: And yeah, it's just like a psychological like switch where now we're not the young ones, they're gonna be the young ones, and we're gonna prioritize them.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: So I think maybe it's a level of not knowing what it's gonna feel like to be in our parents' position, and yeah, it's just I mean, I'll stand by we're inevitably getting older, and we all we talk about this.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: I think the fear of dying is at least a very huge thing for me.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: So when you start seeing me too, by the way.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I'm one step closer to that.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: So I think there's an element of being afraid.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: I was just thinking that to myself because I when I think too much about it, it creates a lot of fear for me.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, we like us getting older, our parents, the people around us, just the collective movement of getting older.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: And yeah, yeah, it's not something you can can control.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: Like you just have to, it's just gonna happen.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: There's nothing we can do.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: And there is that part of taking care of it.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: And it's like, you know, maybe somebody would make the argument that putting rattlesnake venom into your forehead to freeze the muscles, not that it's rattlesnake venom, is not taking care of yourself.
- 30:31SPEAKER_02: And then some people argue, well, it is because it makes me feel better about myself.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: And if this is our current life right now, and we get X amount of years on Earth, why not do everything you can to feel your best?
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: And if that includes doing certain things to look your best, then that just kind of is what it is.
- 30:49SPEAKER_02: But I mean, you and I talked about this all the time, like the other components that go into it, your mental health, your physical health.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: Beauty is just the layer on top of it.
- 30:58SPEAKER_02: It's obviously you look in the mirror every day and you want to like what's looking back at you and figuring out ways to navigate adult acne and skincare and Botox.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: And I just did a fourth microneedling session actually.
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: And the first three, I was like, I don't know if I'm like quite seeing something, but I will say after doing the fourth one, there were some things that I wanted to address, and they're gone.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: So that was pretty good.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: I do, I don't know why.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: I have a good feeling about vectorine.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm excited about it that I would have done it already if it wasn't because this like annoying pimple that keeps showing up, but um, I think I'm gonna jump onto it.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: I can add, I was gonna say I can add to that.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: I think not, I think sometimes less is more.
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: And the same thing with beauty, because I think sometimes having a two or three-step skincare routine can benefit your skin more than a seven-step.
- 32:02SPEAKER_02: And I just think you have to listen to your skin and the way it responds and and navigate that because to your point earlier, we are marketed so many products, and I don't even know what's real anymore and what's legit and what's going to help.
- 32:17SPEAKER_02: I keep seeing Medicube on my TikTok constantly, and I'm like, is this going to really yeah, what do they call it?
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: The boob filler eye stick or something.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: Like, does that mean I get that a lot?
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but it it's like I like my skincare right now, and it's working for me.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: I like it, yeah.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: And same thing, yeah.
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: Like we have a friend who gets facials every however many weeks it is religiously, like that is her thing, and like her skin looks great, and maybe that works for some people.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: I I'll I'll let you know if it works for me, I might try it, but at the same time, like there's certain things I don't like, so and we're so different because it's so hard for me to be, oh, I mean, you should try these products that aren't working for me because your skin is so different, our backgrounds are so different.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: I think all of those components are so unique to the person.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: So that's why we had that conversation about skincare.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: It's just to get you started, but at the end of the day, I was afraid to do that to try new products.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: I come to realize that my skin is very strong, I'm not sensitive to things because I put products that people are on, oh, I bring out with this product and I tested it out and I was like, oh no, actually it works for me.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I'm liking it.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: Something that I wanted to say now that came back to me.
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: When we look at ourselves in the mirror, we already have an identity for ourselves.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: We think in a certain way.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: We also have a narrative about ourselves, yeah.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: We have that narrative, right?
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: So now I'm kind of starting to understand why when women get pregnant, there's a disassociation and they're like, I just I don't want to I wanna feel myself again.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: Now, what do you mean?
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: You're yourself, right?
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: But our identity is so contrary to what we see in the mirror, which is natural because that's just how you perceive yourself in the real world in this three-dimensional world.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: Imagine having that massive change happening to your body.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: Of course, you're gonna disassociate.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: Of course you're gonna be like, who is this person?
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: This isn't me, you know, this isn't the body I grew up in.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: I've been thinking about that a lot too, because maybe of course your physical body is who you are, along with your personality.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: That but I think that it's very important to have that thought process and start allowing your not identity, but opening your mind to knowing that your body is going to change and accept that and be okay with it because like a natural thing.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: And I think as we start talking about it, we start making it more okay.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: That is a possibility.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: If women were to say, oh yeah, no, when I got pregnant, I definitely felt weird.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: What is this?
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: But I have a belly, all of the stakes.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: I've heard it from some people.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: If we said it more often, then I'll be like, Oh, that's what she was talking about.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, I'm feeling the same way.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: So that's normal.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: But when you feel isolated and nobody talks about it, I do not feel like myself.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: I should be happy because I'm pregnant, but I'm feeling very weird right now.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: And that can create a little bit of a crisis.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: So to our point about, oh yeah, when you look at yourself in the mirror and something changed, there's a moment of disassociation.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: You're like, oh my god, who is this person?
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: I am a 20-year-old girl who's inside, right?
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: We don't, I don't, I think I feel so young inside.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: So having these conversations, and I think having the community around you that can navigate these changes with you makes it that much easier.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I think you made an excellent point that it is natural, it does happen to all events.
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: And not only that, it is okay, right?
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like it was okay to feel confused about aging.
- 35:59SPEAKER_02: It was okay to feel unsure of how you want to proceed with aging.
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: The topic of do you get Botox and etc.
- 36:08SPEAKER_02: Do you change your skincare?
- 36:10SPEAKER_02: It's okay to not want to.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: Like, I I think I could personally stop Botox and learn to accept the way that my face is changing and be graceful at that because we all are going to be on that path, and and it's okay.
- 36:24SPEAKER_02: Aging is so beautiful, it just doesn't change who you are inside.
- 36:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: And that's big.
- 36:31SPEAKER_02: Like, why would you never like be grateful for the time that you've had on earth to be able to even age like that?
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:39SPEAKER_02: So also I'm jealous of all of my friends who have somehow trained their face to just not raise their eyebrows, like nature's Botox.
- 36:47SPEAKER_02: They just never raise it, so they don't have forehead wrinkles, and I can think of a couple people, and you are God's favorite.
- 36:53SPEAKER_02: I am working.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: And it is hard.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: I was um, I know I like go like this, but I'm very good at it.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: I'm very additional.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: I like I I've been really like that for a long time.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: And no one loves this one because he's like, it's your smile.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: Like you always are smiling, so you always get that one.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, I guess that shows that I'm happy.
- 37:17SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I might as well just embrace it.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I think because I have the movement, I'm just like, okay, I'm very cautious of my forehead situation.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: I stress, but again, this is recent years.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: I watched Emily in Paris, and Emily literally wrinkles the whole time.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: And I want to go and be like, girl, you don't have to do the thing.
- 37:41SPEAKER_02: Like, I'm her eyebrows are up the entire time.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: She gets five wrinkles, and I'm like, good for you, girl.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: Like, you do your thing.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: But that level of expression is so intense.
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:54SPEAKER_02: I have one eyebrow that when I smile and I'm just not paying attention, it flies off my head, and it's not something that I can control, it just happens.
- 38:02SPEAKER_02: It's been like that since I was little.
- 38:05SPEAKER_02: But I mean, I'm I'm definitely I'm not as expressive as Emily in Paris, but I definitely am making faces constantly.
- 38:12SPEAKER_02: But oh yeah.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: I mean I wanted to spend more time together because I forgot that you make faces.
- 38:19SPEAKER_02: Well, now I hide it.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, you want to take us home, Laura.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: What would be your adbias to a girl in their 20s navigating change?
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: And what would be your adbias to older people like in their 30s and maybe even their 40s?
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: I know we're not there yet, but I think we can all relate in the way that we're changing.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: I think I would say a couple of things.
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: One of them being what I said a second ago about how it's natural and it's okay.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: And, you know, there's nothing wrong with it.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: There's nothing wrong with aging, there's nothing wrong with seeing those fine lines.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: But the other half of the advice I'd give is to talk to your friends and be open about some of those insecurities because I think that we create narratives in our head and we beat ourselves up about things that other people don't see at all.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: And I think it's so much easier for us to look in the mirror and decide that we don't look good because this new feature has happened.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: Where in reality, like somebody else probably doesn't even see that.
- 39:24SPEAKER_02: You know, the people around you who love you are gonna see you as just as beautiful as you were.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: What about you?
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: What's your advice?
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: That's very true.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: I would say that in your 20s, you should never say never.
- 39:37SPEAKER_01: Because I think when you're in your 20s, you feel invincible.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: You feel me?
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: Like never say I'll never get photos and then go to an appointment.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then because it's gonna happen.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: And then I do feel in your 20s, it's just coming from my own perspective, not selfish, but you're kind of like, why are they doing this?
- 39:55SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 39:55SPEAKER_01: That's your point of view because you are in such a different state of life.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: Life is great, your collagen is through the roof, everything's great, right?
- 40:02SPEAKER_01: But what you don't realize is you're eventually gonna have to deal with those things.
- 40:08SPEAKER_01: And I mean, you can think whatever you want and you can have your own opinions, but I will say from my perspective, you should stay always open and respectful to other people's journey that are different ages because you don't know what that feels like until you get there.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: And being on that side now, I get it.
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: And so that's my advice for people in their 20s and for their 30s is for women to don't judge themselves if they feel they want to do the buttocks or they're gonna do like treatments or whatever.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: Do what it takes that makes you happy and do it for you.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: Be open, and it's okay for you to make this decision.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: It's okay for us to change our minds of if you thought some way in your 20s.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: But as long as that makes you happy and it makes you feel confident and it makes you feel beautiful.
- 40:58SPEAKER_01: I think you feeling beautiful is how the world is gonna see you at the end of the day.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: So I think that removing that judgment and staying open to what works for you will make you feel that much better.
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: I really like what you said about being respectful to others.
- 41:16SPEAKER_02: So well said, Laura.
- 41:18SPEAKER_01: And this is Ed.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: This conversation was for anybody in the 20s, 30s, 40s, where all where women are navigating changes.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: It doesn't seem men deal with them the same, but we're not them.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: So maybe they just don't talk about it as much as we do.
- 41:34SPEAKER_01: But maybe they're also feeling it.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: If you are feeling those changes, if you feel judged by your group chat, if you feel you can't really talk to anybody about this transition, we hope that this conversation is helpful.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: Taking the judgment out.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: We're all thinking the same thing.
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: Your friend who's judgmental is probably thinking the same thing.
- 41:57SPEAKER_01: It's just that we want it to normalize it and have these conversations out loud, so it can help any women that I like going the change.
- 42:07SPEAKER_01: If you like this conversation, share this with your friends, with anybody that you feel it would resonate.
