- 0:00We as a church are on a journey. That journey we've entitled the
- 0:06pathway to praise. It's a unique journey because
- 0:14not everybody wants to be on that pathway.
- 0:19Unbelievers do not. They refuse the pathway to
- 0:23praise, but the believer relishes the pathway to praise.
- 0:31In fact, the Bible says in Isaiah 4321 that the people that
- 0:35I have formed for myself, they will declare my praise.
- 0:44And so the believer is on this unique journey to praise and
- 0:51honor his God. It's, it's like a, the, the
- 0:58journey leads to a great grand crescendo in heaven because
- 1:05that's where we're going. And when we get there, the
- 1:08praise will be enormous. But while we're here on earth,
- 1:13we're, we're on this pathway to, to praise.
- 1:18And while the unbeliever refuses the pathway, we we truly relish
- 1:24the pathway. We seek to live for the glory
- 1:28and honor of God, and we truly want to praise His name.
- 1:37The Bible gives commands, and the most frequently repeated
- 1:46command in the Bible is the command to praise the Lord or
- 1:55give thanks to the Lord. And yet, as often as it's
- 2:04repeated, we so infrequently obey it.
- 2:12And you would think that as often as the Lord says that we
- 2:16are to rejoice in the Lord, we are to give thanks to His name,
- 2:20we are to praise his name, that we would be the people that
- 2:23would want to do that all the time.
- 2:26But we find ourselves at times reluctant to praise the name of
- 2:34the Lord. The phrase Hallelujah is a great
- 2:41phrase, great word. It's from 2 Hebrew words hallel
- 2:48which means to praise or to celebrate or to boast and Yah,
- 2:57Yahweh, Yahweh, God. Hallelujah means we are to
- 3:02celebrate God, we are to boast in God, we are to praise God.
- 3:11And that's why the the unbeliever refuses the pathway
- 3:14to praise, because they refuse to to boast in the Lord.
- 3:21They refuse to praise the Lord, but the believer relishes to do
- 3:27that. They've been created for that,
- 3:30they've been formed for that, and therefore they engage in
- 3:36praise to their God. That's why the the Bible says,
- 3:42let not the rich man boast or praise or celebrate his riches.
- 3:51And neither let the the mighty man celebrate or boast in his
- 3:55riches, or the wise man boast or glory or celebrate or praise his
- 4:04wisdom. But let him who celebrates or
- 4:08let him who boasts or let him who praises, praise this way
- 4:15that he boasts in the Lord who exercises loving kindness and
- 4:20justice and mercy on the face of the earth.
- 4:25The unbeliever doesn't want to do that.
- 4:27They, they glory in their riches and their wisdom and their might
- 4:31and they want to boast all about those things.
- 4:33But the believer know that they boast in the Lord.
- 4:36They, they give hallelujahs to the Lord.
- 4:39They, they praise his name. And that's why the journey is so
- 4:44unique. And at the same time it, it can
- 4:47be perplexing, but it's a, it's a great journey.
- 4:51And as we travel along this journey, we've looked at the
- 4:53privilege of praise. We looked at the prophet of
- 4:56praise last week. It was the people of praise.
- 5:01And yet it's true that we find ourselves, even though we're on
- 5:06this pathway, at times reluctant to praise and to boast and to
- 5:14celebrate the Christ. The question comes, why is that?
- 5:22Why is it if I'm formed by God, and those who are formed by God,
- 5:27created by Him, they, they will declare my praise?
- 5:31Why is it then then I have trouble doing that?
- 5:35Why is it that sometimes as I journey along this pathway, I
- 5:40find myself opposed to boasting in the Lord or celebrating His
- 5:48name? Well, that's why today's title
- 5:54is called the Prerequisites to Praise.
- 6:01There are certain prerequisites that, if not a part of your
- 6:06life, will keep you from praising the Lord, boasting in
- 6:13the Lord, celebrating the Lord, giving thanks at His name,
- 6:17rejoicing in who He is. And so I thought that we could
- 6:23look at the prerequisites of praise today and in doing so,
- 6:29help you understand why at times I, I don't praise the Lord or
- 6:36celebrate his name when I should.
- 6:40The Bible says in Psalm 33 verse #1 that that praise is, is
- 6:45beautifying, fitting to the people of God.
- 6:51It's it's, it's that what's, what's fits us the best praise
- 6:57is that which beautifies our life more than anything else.
- 7:01But yet at times we we are reluctant to be that beautiful.
- 7:10The question is why? Why does that happen in its
- 7:16centers? I believe around the
- 7:18prerequisites to praise and the prerequisites fall into 4
- 7:23categories. There there are four legs in
- 7:29which you stand on the pathway to praise and as you journey
- 7:35along this pathway, these these legs keep you moving in the
- 7:45right direction. 1 is the peace of Christ, second is the word of
- 7:55Christ, third is the name of Christ, and 4th is the fear of
- 8:05Christ. So if the If the peace of Christ
- 8:13does not rule in your heart, you will not be thankful.
- 8:21If the word of Christ does not reside in your heart, you will
- 8:28not give thanks to the Lord. If the name of Christ does not
- 8:38radiate from your heart, you will not give praise and
- 8:44celebrate the Christ. And if the fear of Christ does
- 8:50not reign supreme in your heart, you won't rejoice with
- 8:57trembling. There are your 4 principles.
- 9:02If you got your Bible, turn to Colossians chapter 3, Colossians
- 9:06chapter 3 and we will show you how these all come together.
- 9:11It reads this way verse 15. Let the peace of Christ rule in
- 9:16your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body, and be
- 9:22thankful. Let the word of Christ richly
- 9:26dwell within you with all wisdom, teaching and admonishing
- 9:30one another, with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
- 9:34singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
- 9:40Then whatever you do in Word or deed, do all in the name of the
- 9:46Lord Jesus. Give me thanks through Him to
- 9:53God the Father. Those are the first three, the
- 9:58peace of Christ, the word of Christ, and the name of Christ.
- 10:05The peace of Christ must rule in your heart.
- 10:09That's what it says. Possibly let the peace of Christ
- 10:14rule in your hearts, for you've been called into one body and be
- 10:23thankful. So if the peace of Christ does
- 10:27not rule in your heart, you will not give thanks to the Lord.
- 10:32So what does that mean? Well, the word rule means means
- 10:38to call the shots. It's the word where we get our
- 10:42English word umpire and umpires. They call balls and strikes,
- 10:49They call fair a foul, They call outer safe.
- 10:53They make the call. They're the determining factor
- 10:57and whether or not you are safe or out, it's a strike or a ball
- 11:03or whatever the case may be. They they call shots.
- 11:07Unfortunately, now they they have instant replay to make sure
- 11:09that the empire got it right. But when the peace of Christ
- 11:14rules in your heart, it means that the very fact that you're
- 11:18on God's side, let him be the governing factor in every
- 11:23decision that you make. In other words, the Bible says
- 11:28in Romans 51, having been justified by faith, we have
- 11:30peace with God. Before you were saved, you were
- 11:33at war with God. You were the enemy of God.
- 11:36But now that you've been justified by faith, you're at
- 11:39peace with God. So now that you're at peace with
- 11:42God, let that very fact be that which determines every decision
- 11:49that you make in life. Let the fact that you're on
- 11:53God's side determine which decision that you make.
- 11:59How many times have you heard me say over the years that the
- 12:02decision you make today will determine your destiny tomorrow?
- 12:07Make a bad decision today, it affects your tomorrow.
- 12:10Make a good decision today, it affects your tomorrow.
- 12:15Excuse me, but whatever decision you make today will determine
- 12:21your destiny tomorrow. So whatever decision you're
- 12:25going to make today, let the very fact that you're at peace
- 12:29with God determine every decision that you make.
- 12:35Let the peace of Christ be the ruling factor in whatever
- 12:42decision you're going to make today.
- 12:46When you do that, you'll be thankful.
- 12:51And the reason you're not thankful is because you're
- 12:53making the decisions and then you don't like your decision
- 12:58because then you got to live with the consequences and you're
- 13:00not thankful. But when you let the peace of
- 13:03Christ rule in your heart because you have, because you're
- 13:08at peace with God and you have the peace of God in you, you let
- 13:13him make that decision. So when you decide to to date
- 13:20someone, you let the peace of Christ make that decision.
- 13:28In other words, you, you let the very fact that you're on God's
- 13:31side determine who it is you date or you don't date, what job
- 13:37you take or what job you don't take, what clothes you wear
- 13:41versus what clothes you don't wear this morning.
- 13:45You let the peace of Christ make the deciding factor and whether
- 13:50or not you came to church, you're here right there.
- 13:55There are those who are not here because they didn't let the
- 13:58peace of Christ rule in their heart.
- 14:02They let something else rule in their heart and that's what made
- 14:05their decision not to come to church.
- 14:09And the decision they make today will determine their destiny
- 14:14tomorrow, just like your decision today determines your
- 14:18destiny tomorrow. Isn't it interesting that when
- 14:21you think of the armor of God in the Ephesians chapter 6 and we
- 14:26know about the armor of God, we we think about all those
- 14:28different instruments that that are part of the armor.
- 14:32We think of the helmet of salvation.
- 14:34We think of the sword of the spirit.
- 14:35We think of the shield of faith, the breastplate of
- 14:37righteousness, that the belt of truth, but very few people ever
- 14:42think about the gospel of peace in which our our feet are
- 14:51furnished with. Paul says that our feet are to
- 14:57be shod with the gospel of peace, or fitted with the gospel
- 15:00of peace, or furnished with the gospel of peace.
- 15:05That does not mean that your armor is about talking to people
- 15:11about Jesus and the gospel of peace.
- 15:14That's not what that means. It does mean that the very fact
- 15:19that you're at peace with God because the gospel that was
- 15:23preached to you solidifies your stance as you go to war because
- 15:30you're on God's side. And isn't it interesting that
- 15:35those those feet that are fitted with the gospel of peace
- 15:41determine how you engage in battle?
- 15:46For instance, the Bible says flee your morality, flee
- 15:52idolatry, flee the love of money, flee youthful lusts.
- 15:59Well, how do you do that? You do it because you you have
- 16:03the right shoes on you. You have the gospel of of peace
- 16:08that fits you perfectly so that when it's time to run, you can
- 16:12run. When it's time to stand, you
- 16:14stand, but you're at peace with God.
- 16:18And because you're at peace with God, the decision you make to
- 16:21run rules in your heart. He moves you away from
- 16:26temptation. That's why Paul would say there
- 16:28is no temptation taken you put such as coming to man.
- 16:31But God always provides a way of escape.
- 16:34Well, how does he provide the way of skate?
- 16:36Because he's fitted you with the gospel of peace.
- 16:39That's the shoes you wear. You remember growing up when
- 16:41you, when you used to buy new shoes, how excited you were
- 16:44about new shoes. And your mom would say, OK, OK,
- 16:46just run down the aisle and see, see how fast you run.
- 16:49And you take off running down the aisle of the, of the store.
- 16:52And then, whoa, man, I, I, I run faster now.
- 16:55And you were convinced that you could run faster because you had
- 16:58new shoes. Well, when you're born again,
- 17:06you're at peace with God, and part of the armor you're fitted
- 17:10with is the gospel of peace. They're the shoes you wear that
- 17:15are furnished specifically for you so that you can make the
- 17:21decision to run when it's necessary to run and flee
- 17:24immorality and idolatry and youthful lusts, or to stand firm
- 17:32against the Wiles of the devil and be armored with those things
- 17:39that are fitted for you in Ephesians chapter 6.
- 17:44But when you let the peace of Christ make the decision in your
- 17:48life, you're always thankful. Always.
- 17:55But when you make the decision, not so much so when you're not
- 18:02thankful. As you travel down the pathway
- 18:05of praise, ask yourself, did the peace of Christ decide what it
- 18:12is I was supposed to do today, tomorrow, and forever?
- 18:21When the gospel of peace rules in your heart, you will be
- 18:27thankful. Now the Bible says in Isaiah 26
- 18:32three that God will keep you in perfect peace, whose mind is
- 18:39stayed fixed, focused on thee. And the Bible says in Psalm one
- 18:4719165 that great peace have those who love your commandments
- 18:55and nothing causes them to stumble.
- 19:00Great peace. That's where the second point
- 19:04comes in. And that is the word of Christ
- 19:09must reside in your heart. The word of Christ must reside
- 19:15in your heart. This is how Paul says it.
- 19:18He says, let the word of Christ richly dwell within you
- 19:25abundantly dwell. The word dwell is the word that
- 19:30means to to be at home. Let the word of Christ be at
- 19:37home abundantly in your heart. When, when the when the word of
- 19:46Christ resides within you, is at home within you, you will teach,
- 19:55admonish one another and you will sing to one another in
- 19:58psalms and hymns and spiritual songs and you will give thanks.
- 20:05That's the byproduct of the word of Christ richly dwelling in
- 20:09you. So if on your journey down the
- 20:14pathway to praise and you are reluctant to giving thanks and
- 20:20praise and hallelujahs to God, you must ask yourself, is the
- 20:25word of Christ. Residing within my heart.
- 20:30Is it overwhelmingly at home in my heart or or is God's word a
- 20:35stranger to you? You see, we, we like to, we like
- 20:40to snack on the word of God instead of scarf the word of
- 20:49God. There's a big difference there.
- 20:53You know, snacks are are great in between meals, but you need
- 20:59to scarf on the word of God, devour the word of God every
- 21:04opportunity you get to hear the word of God, to read the word of
- 21:08God, to listen to the word of God, to be in the word of God
- 21:10must consume you because you want the word of Christ to be at
- 21:16home in your heart. In other words, it's it's shed
- 21:20all over your insides and when the word of Christ resides
- 21:28within you, richly dwells within your heart, there'll be
- 21:34instruction, admonition, and expression.
- 21:42You'll teach one another. That's instruction.
- 21:48You'll admonish one another. That's admonition.
- 21:56And look what Paul says. He says with psalms and hymns
- 22:02and spiritual songs singing with thankfulness.
- 22:06Where in your church, in your hearts to the Lord, that there's
- 22:15a certain song you sing in your heart to the Lord, that there is
- 22:23an expression of of praise to God, because the word of Christ
- 22:29dwells in me richly, and that expression is I.
- 22:34I sing to one another with psalms, which are the Old
- 22:37Testament psalms, hymns, which simply are the expressions of
- 22:43praise to God. Spiritual songs are are personal
- 22:47testimonial songs such as the new song or Mary's song in Luke
- 22:541 or Zachariah's song. Those are personal testimonies
- 22:58of of songs in the scripture and it says singing with grace.
- 23:04In other words, the songs you sing are prompted by the grace
- 23:09that's within you in your hearts to the Lord.
- 23:16There's a certain expression of praise you give to the Lord in
- 23:20your heart. In other words, your heart
- 23:23matches the praise on your lips. Sometimes we, we come to church
- 23:28and, and we sing songs of praise, but they're not really
- 23:31matching what's on the inside of our heart, are they?
- 23:35They're they're we're, we're doing all the outward motions,
- 23:38but our hearts are really some place else in another direction,
- 23:43affection for something else other than God.
- 23:45We're to sing in our hearts to the Lord.
- 23:50And that's the expression of the, of the word of Christ that
- 23:53resides within your heart. When the peace of Christ rules
- 24:01in your heart, you give thanks. When the word of Christ resides
- 24:07in your heart, you give thanks and you do it in song and praise
- 24:16to God. And then there's the name of
- 24:20Christ says in verse 17, Whatever you do in Word or deed,
- 24:27do all the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks through him
- 24:35to God the Father. The name of Christ, the name of
- 24:43Christ simply is who he is. It's his character, it's his
- 24:48nature and and the the name of Christ needs to radiate in our
- 24:58hearts. So whatever you do in Word or
- 25:01deed, whatever you say today, tomorrow, for the rest of your
- 25:06life, whatever you do today or tomorrow, the rest of your life,
- 25:09whatever you do in Word or deed to all in line with the
- 25:14attributes and character of God. In other words, what you say
- 25:20today should reflect, should radiate that your heart is right
- 25:24with God and you know God. What you do today should reflect
- 25:31that you know God and you honor God and serve God.
- 25:35So whatever you do in Word or deed to all, not some all in the
- 25:42name or in line with the character in nature of the Lord
- 25:47Jesus, and you will be thankful. But if what you're doing in Word
- 25:55or deed is not in line with the character and attributes of God,
- 26:00you will not be thankful, you'll be miserable, you'll be
- 26:04unthankful, you will not be delightful.
- 26:09So you got to ask yourself, what am I doing today?
- 26:14What am I saying today that's in line with the character and
- 26:18nature of the Lord? I say I serve.
- 26:23Are my words radiating the truth that I know Christ?
- 26:27Are my words radiating the fact that I, my, my, the places I go
- 26:32read the fact that I know Christ?
- 26:36That is just so incredibly important.
- 26:39My kids will tell you that when, when they were growing up, I
- 26:41used to always use this phrase with them.
- 26:44Don't defame the name. Whatever you do when you leave
- 26:50the house, don't defame the name.
- 26:51So they always thought it was the name of Sparks.
- 26:54No, it's not my name, it's God's name.
- 26:59Don't defame, don't profane, don't bring a reproach upon the
- 27:03name of Christ. And whatever you do in Word or
- 27:05deed, do all in the name of Christ.
- 27:10If you're a parent today, I would I would challenge you to
- 27:13adopt that with your children. When they get ready to go to
- 27:16school, they get ready to leave the door, say hey, remember,
- 27:20don't defame the name. See you?
- 27:29That should be the last words they hear from you as they leave
- 27:31their house. Don't defame the name.
- 27:35Let those words ring in their ears all throughout the day.
- 27:41They go to school, they go to work, they go on a date.
- 27:45Don't defame the name. Why?
- 27:49Because whatever you do in Word or deed, do all in line with the
- 27:53name of Jesus Christ our Lord and be thankful.
- 27:57Give thanks through him. See, you can't give thanks to
- 28:02Him if you're opposed to Him and living not in line with who He
- 28:08is. Aren't you glad you came today?
- 28:14This is just so basic, but yet so beneficial.
- 28:21Such a blessing for all of us because we go through life and
- 28:26some days are just bad days and we don't give thanks to God.
- 28:35We don't praise him. Things go bad, things go
- 28:38haywire. Things don't go the way I want
- 28:40them to go. Well, did you live according to
- 28:44the peace of Christ? Was he ruling in your heart when
- 28:48you make that decision as to what you did that day?
- 28:53And and is the word of Christ residing in your heart?
- 28:57Is it all throughout you are Are you richly indwelt with the word
- 29:01of Christ because you you hear it, you hear it correctly, you
- 29:11heed it constantly, you honor it entirely, you hide it inwardly
- 29:20because it's all about who you are, the word of Christ, and it
- 29:24resides within your heart in the name of Christ.
- 29:31Is it radiating all throughout your being each and every day,
- 29:36so that when you speak, you speak Christ's words?
- 29:41When you go places, you go where Christ's name is not defamed or
- 29:47profaned, but glorified and honored #4 turn me to Psalm 2.
- 30:03Psalm 2 studies around the the fear of Christ.
- 30:11If you want to live in peace, if you want to love His word, if
- 30:22you want to lift his name, you must fear the Christ.
- 30:34So the Bible says in Psalm 2, worship the Lord verse 11 with
- 30:42fear and rejoice with trembling. Rejoice with trembling.
- 30:56How do you do that? What does that mean?
- 31:01Worship the Lord in fear? Maybe your text says reverence.
- 31:08That's an OK word because you want to Revere the Lord.
- 31:13Those who fear him do Revere him.
- 31:16The unbeliever has No Fear of God before his eyes.
- 31:21The unbeliever does not fear God.
- 31:22Only the believer fears him. Psalm 130 verse #4 There is
- 31:25forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.
- 31:28Why does God forgive you so you'll fear him?
- 31:33Because the unbeliever doesn't fear God, only the believer
- 31:36does. So God wants you to worship him
- 31:40in fear. He wants you to rejoice your
- 31:43trembling, so he forgives you. So you will do that because the
- 31:49unforgiven don't do that. That's important to understand,
- 31:54but isn't it interesting? Psalm 100 verse 2 says worship
- 32:01the Lord with gladness or serve the Lord with gladness.
- 32:05Psalm 2 says worship the Lord with fear, serve the Lord with
- 32:11fear. So which is it?
- 32:13Do I serve him with fear or with gladness?
- 32:16But if there is No Fear, there is no gladness, because there is
- 32:20no peace. Remember the the the Christmas
- 32:23story, peace on earth with those with whom God is pleased.
- 32:33Peace does not come on earth to those with whom God is not
- 32:37pleased, only with those with whom he is pleased.
- 32:43So who is God pleased with? Psalm 14711 says God is pleased
- 32:49with those who fear His name. See that So only those who fear
- 32:55his name please God. Those who fear His name receive
- 33:00the peace of God. Therefore we are to worship the
- 33:06Lord, fear the Lord, serve the Lord in fear, so that we can
- 33:10rejoice with trembling. To this man will I look, Psalm
- 33:1466, I mean Isaiah 66 verse #2 To this man will I look to him who
- 33:19is broken and of a contrite heart, and who trembles at my
- 33:24word, who shakes uncontrollably under the authority of what I
- 33:30say. They live in the fear of the
- 33:33Lord all day long. We don't like to use that word
- 33:37because we we want a candy coat and say, well, it just means to
- 33:41to reverence and be in awe of the Lord, which is good, but
- 33:48that's not what it means. It means you fear the Lord.
- 33:53What does that mean? Exactly what it says.
- 33:56It means you fear the Lord because the unbeliever does not,
- 34:02not afraid of the Lord because they don't know Him.
- 34:06But when you come to know Him, it strikes fear in your heart.
- 34:14Not because you'll ever be condemned, because perfect love
- 34:16casts out fear, right? The love of Christ casts out
- 34:22fear. So there's not the fear of
- 34:24condemnation. It's not the fear of judgement.
- 34:27We don't have that kind of fear. Why?
- 34:30Because we know that the love of Christ cast all that out.
- 34:34I will never be judged or condemned by God because of what
- 34:37he's done for me at Calvary. But I do fear.
- 34:43Fear that I would displease him, dishonor his name, profane his
- 34:50name. So Psalmist says, fear the name
- 34:56of Christ. Let it be that which reigns
- 35:01supreme in your heart, so you can rejoice with trembling.
- 35:13It's interesting that the Christmas story is more about
- 35:18fear than anything else. When the angels would have the
- 35:26glory of the Lord shine all around the shepherds, they were
- 35:28terrified. They were in fear.
- 35:31So what did the Angel say? Fear not, fear not.
- 35:37Why? Because you bring your good news
- 35:39with great joy. When the Angel appeared to to
- 35:45Mary, he said don't be afraid Mary, because she was terrified.
- 35:53Look at the people who encountered the Christ in the
- 35:56Scriptures. Absolutely terrified.
- 36:02Why? Because he's a consuming fire.
- 36:05It's a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living
- 36:07God. But yet the Lord, his grace and
- 36:13mercy, reaches out to save the lost and those who are saved.
- 36:20They understand him, they get him, and they fear him.
- 36:25That's why the Bible says these words Proverbs 2317 Live in the
- 36:34fear of God always. That's what Solomon said as he
- 36:41wrote to his son. He said in Proverbs 2814,
- 36:46Blessed is the man who fears all day long.
- 36:54That's the blessed man. The Bible says in Proverbs 3130
- 37:00that charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but the woman
- 37:06who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
- 37:13The Bible says over in the book of Isaiah, the 8th chapter,
- 37:18Isaiah chapter 8 verse #13 it is the Lord of hosts whom you
- 37:25should regard as holy, perfect, sinless, absolute perfection.
- 37:33It's the Lord of hosts, the Lord of army armies.
- 37:36Yavay Savayoth is the one you should regard as holy.
- 37:42When you do, He shall be your fear and He shall be your dread.
- 37:52And then and only then will he become your sanctuary, your
- 37:59place of refuge, your place of safety.
- 38:05The Bible says in Psalm 128, Blessed is everyone who fears
- 38:13the Lord, who walk in his ways. When you shall eat of the fruit
- 38:21of your hands, you will be happy, and it will be well with
- 38:26you. Your wife should be like a
- 38:30fruitful vine within your house. Your children like olive plant
- 38:36plants around your table. Behold, for thus shall the man
- 38:40be blessed who fears the Lord. Do you fear the Lord?
- 38:49Just look at your wife. Does she climb like a vine all
- 38:56over you? Maybe you don't fear the Lord.
- 39:02Maybe you fear her more than you fear the Lord Could be.
- 39:08How are your children? Like olive plants around your
- 39:12table? Similar great blessing and joy?
- 39:15Are your children a heartache to you?
- 39:19Ask yourself, do you fear the Lord, or do you fear the
- 39:23reaction of your children to your decisions?
- 39:28When you fear the Lord, you fear no man, you fear no woman.
- 39:33You fear nothing else. You only fear the Lord.
- 39:36If you fear something else or someone else, you do not fear
- 39:39the Lord. It's just that simple.
- 39:43In fact, listen to this Psalm 112.
- 39:50How blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights
- 39:54in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty
- 39:57on the earth. Are your descendants mighty on
- 39:59the earth? The generation of the upright
- 40:04will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his
- 40:07house, and his righteousness endures forever.
- 40:10Are there wealth and riches in your house?
- 40:12It's not talking about money. It's not talking about diamonds
- 40:15and jewelry. It's talking about, as Solomon
- 40:19said in Proverbs 24, that by wisdom a house is built, by
- 40:25understanding it is established, and by knowledge all the rooms
- 40:29are filled with precious and pleasant riches.
- 40:36In other words, it's the richest of character.
- 40:41It's it's the richness of Christ likeness.
- 40:45It's the beauty of Christianity and all that it entails.
- 40:54He goes on to say in verse 6, this man who fears Lord will
- 40:57never be shaken, never never shaken.
- 41:04The righteous will be remembered forever.
- 41:07He will not fear evil tidings, not fear of title, evil tidings,
- 41:15because it's hard to steadfast trusting in the Lord.
- 41:22Do you think we fear the evil tidings that come through the
- 41:28election process? Of course not.
- 41:33We don't trust in politics, we don't trust in the election
- 41:36process. We trust in the Lord.
- 41:41That's where our trust is. And the man who fears God does
- 41:45not fear evil tidings, and his heart is upheld.
- 41:49He will not fear. In other words, there is
- 41:53stability, security and strength in those who fear the Lord.
- 41:59And those who fear the Christ have the Christ reigning supreme
- 42:08in their hearts, and they rejoice with trembling.
- 42:16The four prerequisites to praise the peace of Christ.
- 42:22It must rule in your heart, and you'll be thankful.
- 42:27The word of Christ, it must reside in your heart.
- 42:32And you will teach, admonish one another, and you will sing
- 42:38psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, and you'll sing in your
- 42:41heart to the Lord, and you will give thanks the name of Christ.
- 42:51It must radiate in your being, in your heart.
- 42:57So whatever you do, in Word or in deed, it's all done in
- 43:01accordance with the character and nature of God.
- 43:04And you will be thankful that when you fear the Christ, you
- 43:10fear his name because of the great holiness that's within him
- 43:16that makes him who he is. You are the person who has that
- 43:23fear, reigning supreme above all else, so that you fear nothing
- 43:29else or no one else, because you only fear the Christ.
- 43:37Those are the four legs, the four prerequisites to praise.
- 43:42If you ever wonder why you've, why you've gone through a day or
- 43:46a week or a month, God forbid, without ever praising God,
- 43:50singing Hallelujah to God, giving thanks to God, it's
- 43:54because one of those four elements are not true in your
- 43:58life. Because once they're true,
- 44:03you'll be thankful. You'll be grateful.
- 44:06You'll sing the Hallelujah chorus.
- 44:09You'll boast in the Lord. Let's pray.
- 44:14Father, thank you for today. Thank you for the chance to look
- 44:18into your word. Answer a question that many of
- 44:23us have on why is it there are days I am reluctant to praise
- 44:29you instead of relish the opportunity to praise you.
- 44:36Our prayer, Father, is that we would understand the, the peace
- 44:38of Christ, the word of Christ, the name of Christ and the fear
- 44:42of Christ. Basically, Lord, we just need to
- 44:46understand the Christ who you are.
- 44:51That's the the basis for all we do because we give thanks
- 44:56continually through your name, through you, based on who you
- 45:05are. So I pray for everyone in the
- 45:08room today. You'd encourage their hearts,
- 45:13strengthen their souls, help them to look at their lives in
- 45:18light of those scriptures and ask themselves the question, am
- 45:25I living a Hallelujah life, boasting in the Lord, praising,
- 45:32celebrating His name? And then ask the question, If
- 45:37not, why not go back and look at the text and Colossians and
- 45:42Psalms and measure their life against what the Bible says?
- 45:49God, go before the people of our church, this church, Christ
- 45:54community, use them to radiate the beauty of your name.
- 46:03Thank you in Jesus name, Amen.
