- 0:34Guys, what is going on? Welcome back to the place where
- 0:37we think differently daily. What's up, different thinkers?
- 0:40My name is Diane and today I'm doing a video all about autism
- 0:43obsessions and how it's a good thing that can absolutely help
- 0:46you so much. So having an autism obsession or
- 0:51obsessive interest can be quite can be a negative thing
- 0:55actually, because you could be a hoarder.
- 0:58You could collect too much, spend too much money on things.
- 1:00There's a whole bunch of things that having an obsession with
- 1:03something contended to an unhealthy obsession, but but
- 1:06there is a bunch of things that you can do which is super
- 1:09awesome for like people who want to use it as a as a superpower
- 1:15or a tool or a weapon in their arsenal, which is super, super
- 1:17awesome. So I've done this video, but in
- 1:18a way that I could basically give you 3 tips of how you can
- 1:21actually use it for your your free advantage basically.
- 1:26And that's basically it. So without further ado, let's
- 1:28get into it. But before we do, I just want to
- 1:31ask. If you haven't already and you
- 1:33want to download my free Autism Life Hacks PDF book, then you
- 1:36can do autismhacks.net. All right, let's jump into the
- 1:38video. OK guys, so number one is
- 1:40calming down. So if you find joy and comfort
- 1:44from obsessive interest or a topic of interest and like, you
- 1:48know you you you feel relaxed and calm and you're studying
- 1:51Penguins, right? If you are in a situation where
- 1:54you're worked up or you're stressed or you're going to have
- 1:56a meltdown, then if you start your obsessive interest topic,
- 1:59like if you start reading about Penguins or discussing stuff
- 2:03about Penguins or looking at Penguin videos, then it's going
- 2:06to calm you down and help you feel so much more at ease.
- 2:08So you're using it as a tool to help you overcome something that
- 2:12is, you know, detrimental or negative at that moment in time,
- 2:15which my friend is a super awesome, super comfy hacker I
- 2:18use all the time. No joke.
- 2:20OK, so #2 is finding a job. So if you have an autism
- 2:24obsession with, like, say you're really interested in like
- 2:28computer science and coding, right, Then you could
- 2:31potentially become a knowledge base on that subject and be
- 2:35really good at it. Which will give you a really
- 2:37good leeway to go for a job interview and potentially
- 2:42getting a position in a company if you're really, really good at
- 2:44a certain thing that the company really, really needs.
- 2:46Which I think is really, really awesome.
- 2:47Because, you know, people with obsessive interests and topics
- 2:50become kind of like the the master in what they really,
- 2:54really enjoy or mastering what they like, which is the thing
- 2:56that they love. You know, you could be like a
- 2:59game, kind of like Wizkid, and then you could get a job with a
- 3:02gaming company because you'd be like a knowledge base more so
- 3:04than anybody else, which is just absolutely fantastic.
- 3:07So on that, let's move on to tip #3.
- 3:11So tip #3 here is making friends.
- 3:13Now, one of the biggest struggles I feel like people on
- 3:15the autism spectrum do have is finding friends and making
- 3:18friends. And this is due to a bunch of
- 3:21different things. Social communication aspects,
- 3:23social conformity. Loads of different things that
- 3:25happen socially which do impact the person's to you know, act in
- 3:32social situation. But there is an upside to having
- 3:36an obsessive interest when it comes down to making friends.
- 3:39If you are interested in a certain topic then you can go
- 3:44and find friends within that certain topic.
- 3:47So basically, if I'm interested in Star Trek, I can go to Star
- 3:49Trek Forum, Star Trek conventions, sparker
- 3:51conversations and discuss those things.
- 3:53Because the people who will find you interesting, because they
- 3:56will know that you are interested in saying things that
- 3:59they're interested in. But you're like a knowledge
- 4:00base, like a wealth of knowledge in it, which is super dope.
- 4:03Like everybody's going to be like, well, this person knows
- 4:05all the stuff on Star Trek and like, now we're like going to be
- 4:07BFS forever, which is super, super dope.
- 4:10So you can see how you can turn obsessive interests and being
- 4:12something that people kind of go, Oh my goodness, they're
- 4:14holding the house with all this junk to being something like
- 4:16whoa, now you've used it as a superpower in your arsenal
- 4:18because you're awesome and you you beat the system.
- 4:22Guys, if you have anything to add, pop in a comment.
- 4:24I love to read them all. And if you enjoyed this video,
- 4:26give it thumbs up. And if you found value in it and
- 4:28think somebody else could find value, please share on your
- 4:30Facebook, Twitter and Instagram account and I'll see you next
- 4:32time guys.
