- 0:00Speaker 1: The way you begin the day profoundly sets up the
- 0:04Speaker 1: way your day unfolds. If we recite our excuses long enough,
- 0:08Speaker 1: we actually believe they're true. We are built to change.
- 0:11Speaker 1: We are built to grow. We are built to own
- 0:14Speaker 1: our heroic nature. And society has brainwashed us and heart
- 0:18Speaker 1: washed us into thinking that the great ones are cut
- 0:23Speaker 1: from a different cloth.
- 0:24Speaker 2: And it's not, it's not true. As a matter of fact,
- 0:26Speaker 2: in the 5M club.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I say, you know, genius is less about genetics and
- 0:31Speaker 1: much more about your daily habits. Every visionary is initially
- 0:35Speaker 1: ridiculed before they're revered. Look at Jonas Salk, Elon Musk
- 0:40Speaker 1: right now. I mean, Martin Luther King Jr. Look at
- 0:44Speaker 1: Nelson Mandela. Look at Mary Curie. Look at Edison and Einstein.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Look at Galileo. These were all ordinary people who followed
- 0:53Speaker 1: their joy, who came up with a vision and And
- 0:57Speaker 1: the very nature of a great vision means.
- 0:59Speaker 2: You're going to disrupt the status quo.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It's going to scare people who are card-carrying members of
- 1:05Speaker 1: the status quo. And ask yourself, how can I fortify
- 1:09Speaker 1: my mindset? How can I insulate my heart set? How
- 1:13Speaker 1: can I optimize my health set? How can I escalate
- 1:17Speaker 1: my soul set? The four interior empires that I've introduced
- 1:20Speaker 1: in the 5AM Club, so that when I walk out
- 1:23Speaker 1: into the world, I'm creative, I'm productive, I'm compassionate. I
- 1:28Speaker 1: radiate positivity and I have resilience in case I get
- 1:32Speaker 1: knocked down. I would say give it a try. Don't
- 1:34Speaker 1: just give it a try for a week. Give it
- 1:37Speaker 1: a try for three weeks, four weeks, the 66-day minimum.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Then judge by your results. We all have the ability
- 1:46Speaker 1: as human beings to arrive at our own original form
- 1:50Speaker 1: of greatness.
- 1:52Speaker 2: We have not been schooled. We have not been taught.
- 1:56Speaker 1: A lot of us have not been mentored on the mindsets,
- 1:59Speaker 1: heart sets, routines, rituals that will create and allow us
- 2:05Speaker 1: to live our personal genius. But, you know, if you
- 2:09Speaker 1: look at the greatest women and men who have ever
- 2:11Speaker 1: graced the planet, these were so-called ordinary people who just
- 2:16Speaker 1: set up their lives in such a way that their
- 2:20Speaker 1: native gifts saw the light of day. And so according
- 2:24Speaker 1: to University College London, if we do any practice or
- 2:28Speaker 1: habit for 66 days, we reach a point of automaticity
- 2:32Speaker 1: where it becomes easier to do that new habit than
- 2:34Speaker 1: not do the new habit. Once you wire in the
- 2:37Speaker 1: new habit for the first 20 minutes, 5 to 520,
- 2:41Speaker 1: you move because you can release BDNF, brain-derived neurotrophic factor,
- 2:46Speaker 1: which promotes neurogenesis and optimizes your brain. If you move
- 2:50Speaker 1: first thing in the morning, you release serotonin, which makes
- 2:53Speaker 1: you feel good. You release dopamine, which sets you up
- 2:56Speaker 1: for inspiration. Second, we can get into it more deeply,
- 2:59Speaker 1: but second pocket from 520 to 540 is reflect. While
- 3:04Speaker 1: the rest of the world is asleep, there's such quietude
- 3:07Speaker 1: in the air. This is where you can pray. You
- 3:09Speaker 1: can meditate, write in a journal, sit in quietude so
- 3:14Speaker 1: that you're focused and Living your life.
- 3:17Speaker 2: And your priorities through the day.
- 3:18Speaker 1: And then the final pocket of the 2020.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Formula that I talked about in the 5am club is grow.
- 3:24Speaker 2: You'll never get old if you grow.
- 3:26Speaker 1: You'll never become obsolete in your business, even in a
- 3:29Speaker 1: time of great.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Volatility, if you're growing. You'll always stay happy if you grow.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I've had a lot of great, a lot of night
- 3:37Speaker 1: owls who have said, you know, I could never be
- 3:40Speaker 1: a morning person. I've had a lot of people who've said,
- 3:42Speaker 1: you know, grandma couldn't get up early. Grandpa couldn't get
- 3:45Speaker 1: up early. My parents couldn't.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Get up early. I don't have early rising genes, you know?
- 3:50Speaker 1: And what I would say is if you don't read
- 3:53Speaker 1: that book, you've been resisting because you don't think it's
- 3:56Speaker 1: for you.
- 3:57Speaker 2: You might just miss your new favorite book.
- 4:02Speaker 1: If you fall in love with your most closely cherished
- 4:07Speaker 1: beliefs and you're not open to trying new things, you
- 4:11Speaker 1: might miss trying your new favorite food. If you say, well,
- 4:15Speaker 1: here's the kind of friends that I hang out with
- 4:17Speaker 1: and I'm not open to anyone else, you might miss
- 4:22Speaker 1: that new friend or that new mentor who will transform
- 4:26Speaker 1: the way you run your craft and live your life.
- 4:28Speaker 1: And it's the same for the morning routine.
- 4:31Speaker 2: So there are.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Times to be productive and there are times to rest.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Now I very much believe in the 5am club in
- 4:40Speaker 1: the 2020 formula. I very much believe that it will
- 4:43Speaker 1: create a pharmacy of mastery.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Within your brain. It's been proven by science.
- 4:47Speaker 1: You know, even just the simple idea of starting your
- 4:50Speaker 1: day with some sweaty exercise. Why sweaty exercises? Because sweat reduce,
- 4:55Speaker 1: when you sweat, it'll release the BDNF, which John Rady
- 4:59Speaker 1: at Harvard calls miracle grow for the brain. But just
- 5:03Speaker 1: that idea of exercising first thing in the morning will
- 5:06Speaker 1: help you become more resilient, peaceful, strong during the day.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So yes, do your morning routine.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Yes, run the 20-20-20 formula. And then exercise.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Judge by results. Having said that, if you've been up
- 5:20Speaker 1: at three in the morning because you've lost your job,
- 5:26Speaker 1: because you're just picking up on the energy of the
- 5:29Speaker 1: world right now where there's so much fear, self-love, personal
- 5:33Speaker 1: care requires that you rest, recover, and do what.
- 5:39Speaker 2: You need to do.
- 5:41Speaker 1: And I think You know, that's one of the things
- 5:44Speaker 1: I say this with great respect. But when I read
- 5:47Speaker 1: the books or see people saying you must be like
- 5:51Speaker 1: a robot and follow a morning routine or a nightly
- 5:55Speaker 1: ritual or whatever your your best habits are, I believe
- 6:00Speaker 1: there must be room for.
- 6:02Speaker 2: For the hard seasons of life.
- 6:05Speaker 1: And here's what I would also say is my ego,
- 6:09Speaker 1: because a bad day for the ego is a great
- 6:10Speaker 1: day for the soul. My ego says, Robin, you're not
- 6:15Speaker 1: being productive. You're not on your A game. You're not
- 6:19Speaker 1: a warrior.
- 6:21Speaker 2: But you know what I've realized?
- 6:22Speaker 1: I might not be creatively productive according to the definition
- 6:27Speaker 1: of society during those cycles or seasons of suffering. but
- 6:32Speaker 1: am I not spiritually productive? Am I not emotionally productive?
- 6:36Speaker 1: I mean, when does a human being crack the shell
- 6:42Speaker 1: of the ego that covers their hearts.
- 6:44Speaker 2: And learns human virtues?
- 6:48Speaker 1: Nelson Mandela learned how to be Nelson Mandela in his
- 6:51Speaker 1: Robin Island season.
- 6:53Speaker 2: You know, I would say the 2020-20.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Formula is minimum viable morning routine.
- 6:59Speaker 2: And You're a biohacker. I'm a biohacker. I'm a productivity hacker.
- 7:04Speaker 2: I'm a life hack. And so I would say, do
- 7:07Speaker 2: what's right for you.
- 7:08Speaker 1: You know, it's like this whole field of personal mastery
- 7:10Speaker 1: and leadership that we inhabit.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I'm not one to say you must do this because.
- 7:17Speaker 2: We all have.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Different learning types. We're all on different journeys. I think
- 7:21Speaker 1: we have to find the routine, the morning routine that
- 7:23Speaker 1: works best for us. When I was a kid, I
- 7:26Speaker 1: wasn't believed in by a lot of people. I had
- 7:30Speaker 1: a different way of seeing the world. I was very sensitive, creative.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I didn't fit in with the cool crowd. And in
- 7:40Speaker 1: grade five, I had a history teacher and her name
- 7:42Speaker 1: was Cora Greenaway. And she was one of the first
- 7:46Speaker 1: people in my life who believed in me. All it
- 7:49Speaker 1: takes is that one person who coincidentally shows up in
- 7:55Speaker 1: our life, and maybe it's a book, maybe it's a
- 7:56Speaker 1: podcast episode, to introduce us to a new frame of
- 8:02Speaker 1: reference and a new way of living. That's why I
- 8:05Speaker 1: love reading so much. It could be one idea in
- 8:08Speaker 1: a 300-page book and That idea opens you up to
- 8:12Speaker 1: a new galaxy of possibility. And the hand that puts
- 8:15Speaker 1: down the book is a fundamentally different hand. I mean,
- 8:18Speaker 1: all it takes is one new insight to change the
- 8:20Speaker 1: way you see the world.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Thank you.
