Transcript
- 0:06SPEAKER_07: All right, all right, bards and barrels, listeners, it is time for our first bonus episode.
- 0:12SPEAKER_07: Uh, we're gonna dive in.
- 0:13SPEAKER_07: Oh, and there it is.
- 0:14SPEAKER_07: The the opening crack.
- 0:16SPEAKER_07: Thank you for that, Brett.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 0:17SPEAKER_07: Uh, we're gonna dive into our review of Descent into Avernus, which is the uh the campaign that we just wrapped up.
- 0:25SPEAKER_07: Uh, and I'm actually gonna toss this over to Phil because uh out of respect to him being the d DM for our campaign, uh, I'm gonna let him run this episode.
- 0:32SPEAKER_07: Phil, take it away.
- 0:34SPEAKER_02: So, as per the usual, DM has to do all the work.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: I see how it is.
- 0:37SPEAKER_02: Well, I'm pretty excited for tonight.
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: We got a couple special guests with guests with us here tonight.
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: So, along with Ross and Brett tonight, we also have Matt and Isaac who've dialed in with us since they just finished out this campaign with us as well.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: So thanks for joining, guys.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: Uh, first off, I want to talk to you guys about introducing your characters.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: Um, let our audience know who you played, what was your name as a character, and then what race and class did you play?
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: And we'll start here in the room.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: Ross, who'd you play?
- 1:04SPEAKER_07: Uh, my character was Thorn Duskbane.
- 1:07SPEAKER_07: Uh, Thorne is an Asimar Paladin.
- 1:10SPEAKER_07: Um, and I think that that's probably it for now because you're gonna learn some more things about him later.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: Perfect.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: Brett, how about you?
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Uh, I was Arya of Vedas, and I am a human warlock, a genie version of a warlock.
- 1:22SPEAKER_07: Oh, nice.
- 1:23SPEAKER_07: And smelled like ass for most of the campaign.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: So we'll get there.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, we've got those details.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: Uh, we'll kick it over to you next, Matt.
- 1:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I played uh Matt Clipgart, I played Everdash, I was in a ladron bloodhunter.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: A unique class.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: It was fun to see that one play out.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: And how about you, Isaac?
- 1:39SPEAKER_05: Uh my name's Isaac Boone, and I played Astros Ironhide Minotaur Fighter.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: Very nice.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: And uh Phil, the DM here sitting behind the mic, also got to play several uh boisterous NPCs throughout the campaign that you may or may not hear about tonight as well.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: Uh so first one I want to put you guys on the spot.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: And to our audience, I did give them a fair warning on this one.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: They got a chance to do a little research.
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: But one of the things that we did throughout the campaign is we gave fun facts about our characters.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: Um, not necessarily, you know, in-game um per se.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: Some of them were kind of outside of actual campaign play.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Uh, but I had each person review the fun facts they gave on their character, and I want to hear your favorite.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: What was the favorite one that you wrote or created for your character?
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: And then let's see if we uh if we agree with you on that.
- 2:31SPEAKER_02: We'll start with you, Yen Thorne.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: It's like a roast of your character, so no pressure.
- 2:37SPEAKER_07: That's okay.
- 2:38SPEAKER_07: Or a roast.
- 2:40SPEAKER_07: There we go.
- 2:41SPEAKER_07: Um, gosh, favorite fun fact.
- 2:43SPEAKER_07: Okay, so there there was one in particular, mostly because I didn't remember it and it was like overly deep.
- 2:49SPEAKER_07: I actually told it to my wife the other night, and she was like, Wow, you actually came up with that?
- 2:53SPEAKER_07: And I was like, Yeah, yeah, you know, sometimes I would occasionally come up with something good.
- 2:57SPEAKER_07: Um, but it was the I had a tattoo uh that referenced a long-lost love uh that said, When the sun has set, no light can replace it.
- 3:07SPEAKER_07: And it's like most of my fun facts were like somewhat character building or complete BS, and that one was somewhere in the the vast wasteland of I don't know what the hell, why this is in here kind of thing.
- 3:19SPEAKER_07: So I I don't know.
- 3:21SPEAKER_07: I I love that one, but it yes, go ahead, Phil.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: That's hilarious to me.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: That's the one that I picked out too.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: Like I read all of yours and like this is the one that sticks out to me the most, and I couldn't place why, and maybe that's it.
- 3:32SPEAKER_07: And I think it it's it's fun.
- 3:34SPEAKER_07: Like it's not like overly fun, but it's just like a nice little quirky thing about him.
- 3:38SPEAKER_07: My favorite, like just straight up favorite one, um, probably has to be one of the orders.
- 3:44SPEAKER_07: So it's like talking about character building that I did with Thorne.
- 3:46SPEAKER_07: It's like I tried to like give you Phil as the DM just some like little outlets that you could kind of take and run with.
- 3:54SPEAKER_07: Um, so there was like one where like he was the order that was like sent out as like special the special agent group of paladins where they could hunt down evil and stuff like that.
- 4:02SPEAKER_07: So I I really like those.
- 4:03SPEAKER_07: I like the character building ones, but the the long lost one, love, love one was uh just a fun one.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: So all right, we'll kick it on over to Matt.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: How about you?
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: What was Everdash's best fun fact?
- 4:18SPEAKER_04: I don't know, I had a couple of them, but I think my my favorite one was that uh that he really wants to have a brood off just because I tried to play this character very much like a witcher style, and so what I really wanted to try to get to was a point where in the campaign, like I could be facing a demon, and all we would be doing is like staring at each other, and it's a complete contest of will.
- 4:40SPEAKER_04: Never really had that, but I thought it would still be fun to do.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: There were some times that it got close, like you were like sitting around with uh a big big daddy and just like staring at each other.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: I I think out of the list of years, the one that I think needs brought up is the fact that he Everdash refused to wear underwear because of a really bad experience he had two years ago.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: That one has to be spoken into existence.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: And I think I promised you guys to tell you what that would be the next week, and then I purposely did not.
- 5:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you thought you got out of that.
- 5:14SPEAKER_07: Oh that's your that's your whole character arc for when we actually keep going with his story now.
- 5:20SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Next session back when we come back into the next chapter.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: We need to know.
- 5:25SPEAKER_07: Emberdash and the story of the sh of the mystery of the shit pants.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: Isaac, what about you?
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: What was Asterisk's favorite?
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: What was your favorite for Astros?
- 5:38SPEAKER_05: Uh I had a couple, but I think that the one that I'm gonna go with was like the deep backstory, way back to the age of five, where I come from a very prominent family, and my parents paid for the highest quality trainers for my character.
- 5:58SPEAKER_05: And with one little catch that every year on my birthday, I would get to kill my trainer for that year, after my family paid off their family after my parents paid off their family to allow me to do so.
- 6:12SPEAKER_05: And it kind of haunted me.
- 6:14SPEAKER_05: There were some nights during the campaign where I had nightmares over the entire ordeal.
- 6:20SPEAKER_05: But uh, you know, they trained me to be the best fighter that could be.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: I like that one too.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Uh as a Minotaur, I mean, can you imagine a Minotaur riding horse?
- 6:39SPEAKER_05: I mean it's there was one other good one.
- 6:42SPEAKER_05: Uh oh, the one where I didn't like running because I was self-conscious about the way my hooves.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: That one was great too.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: That's fantastic.
- 6:52SPEAKER_04: All right, but I know this might need a little more context, but I really liked the one where you said you remembered everything Yo Sticks did to you.
- 7:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that one's a story.
- 7:02SPEAKER_05: That one's a story.
- 7:04SPEAKER_05: Oh god.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: I believe there was just some healing involved, if I remember correctly.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: Sexual healing.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: Yes, but uh and uh yeah, that sounds good on that uh topic.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: Uh Brad, what was Ari's?
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Uh I think mine was the first one I had up, which was Ari smells really bad, uh, which stemmed into a lot of his character building with uh being a follower of her gond follower of Gond, but also having a trait where he frequently misquoted texts.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: And one of the quotes he would always misquote was that uh he would quote Gond, the his god, by saying, Be wary of those who take baths.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: So Ari Ari would never take a bath.
- 7:46SPEAKER_02: This happened in like session two.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: Like this quote of Gone, misquoted text from Gone happened in session two, and it carried through the whole campaign.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 7:56SPEAKER_07: You know, someday this podcast is gonna be huge, and people are gonna listen to this, and pe like people in their campaigns that follow Gone are gonna listen to this and they're gonna go, what the fuck are you talking about?
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: Where did you pull that come from?
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: This was pre-jet chat GPT too, so you came up with that shit on your own.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: True, true.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: And I don't think I prepped it at all.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: It was just like in the moment, like, oh, I need to misquote something because this is session two, and that's all I know about my character is that random trait.
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: It worked.
- 8:23SPEAKER_02: I think it stuck.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: Close second for Ari though is definitely that I had a fetish for gnome chicks.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: The shorter the better.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: Well, which pairs with another one that he has two illegitimate, illegitimate children that he doesn't know about.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: Yet.
- 8:37unknown: Yes.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: Oh yes.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: So yeah, if you if you haven't had fun facts about your characters in a campaign, highly recommend every session or every other session, even um, go around the table and provide a fun fact about your character.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: It adds so much depth and pushes you to continue to evolve your character.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: It's been a lot of fun.
- 9:03SPEAKER_07: I just know when we keep this story going, we're all gonna be Phil's gonna get us all back together, and then we're gonna be sitting in a tavern, we're all gonna be like having a beer, and then something you're gonna hear the door open, then somebody's gonna say, Daddy.
- 9:17SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 9:19SPEAKER_07: I'll let you decide which daddy I'm referring to.
- 9:24SPEAKER_05: But to uh Brett's point, yeah, it's a great thing to do, and it really brings the whole campaign together.
- 9:30SPEAKER_05: But uh, we weren't always the best at remembering, so just remember that Chat GPT can be your friend.
- 9:35SPEAKER_07: Absolutely.
- 9:36SPEAKER_07: Totally, yes.
- 9:37SPEAKER_07: I also think it's good in the sense that it's like uh if you have a lot of really serious like campaign sessions, is it's a way to be a little lighthearted before you dive into things.
- 9:46SPEAKER_07: Like you're not just sitting down and being super serious that that's what that session's gonna be, it just it adds a little something into the mix that's break things to break things up.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: I especially feel that way, like when we get into a huge combat situation, right, where almost your entire session is gonna be combat, it's nice to break that up a little bit at the beginning and to give people some role-playing opportunity.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for sure.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: So I I want to see what you guys think here.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: Do you have a favorite moment about the campaign?
- 10:13SPEAKER_02: Like something that sticks out.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: And one thing I didn't say at the top of the episode probably should have.
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: Potential spoilers.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: We're gonna try to be relatively spoiler-free, but I want the guys to be able to share you know some details about the campaign as well.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: So if you haven't played through this and you intend to, just know that we may drop one or two things about the campaign, but we'll try to keep it pretty pretty tight.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: So favorite moment.
- 10:36SPEAKER_07: I I think the one for me, and it's really fresh because it was it was the last session, was was that moment where we're trying to make our way to uh Zariel, and then we're up in the cave, and then Lulu says master, and then you're you're like Zariel looks like right at you guys, and I think that was the whole the only time.
- 10:55SPEAKER_07: There are lots of great moments, but that was the only time where I like goosebumps, hair stood up on my arm was that moment.
- 11:01SPEAKER_07: I loved that.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, that was one that you you can't pass up.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: Like it the whole campaign was leading up to that moment, and oof, it was like goosebumps on goosebumps about that one.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: I would say my favorite one was the first time we dropped into a Vernus, um, acquired some Devil's Rides, or some Devil's Rides?
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: In Infernal Infernal War Machines, yeah, um, and had a Mad Max Fury Road style battle of war machines, fighting each other for the first time.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: It was so much fun.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: What about you guys on the other end, anything?
- 11:39SPEAKER_04: I mean, I agree with the Mad Max thing.
- 11:40SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's the thing that really sticks out to me, too, because I could like picture the music in the background just really going all out.
- 11:48SPEAKER_04: It was just fantastic.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: If only we had a bard in our party on the front of one of the machines, like jamming out to some music as we roll into a fight.
- 11:57SPEAKER_04: We should have had you play the flute on one of them.
- 11:59SPEAKER_04: Oh, that would have been swipes of the sewer.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: Here come the rats like running behind.
- 12:04SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 12:06SPEAKER_05: One of my favorite parts was before we went down into Avernus, was just like the random lightning strikes that you would always have to watch out for.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 12:17SPEAKER_05: That was always a good time.
- 12:19SPEAKER_05: I feel that way.
- 12:20SPEAKER_05: Very rarely did they hit me.
- 12:21SPEAKER_05: I'm not sure Ari would agree with you, but you said that.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: I got struck by lightning twice, barely lived to tell the tale.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: I'll go with Astros.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: I enjoyed that part.
- 12:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, it only did 10 d6.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: Like it's, you know, fine.
- 12:35SPEAKER_07: And we were what, like level seven?
- 12:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you were high enough to have 60 hit points.
- 12:39SPEAKER_07: So you didn't die anywhere.
- 12:41SPEAKER_07: It was fine.
- 12:42SPEAKER_07: It's okay.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: Um well, kind of something to go along with your favorite moments.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: I feel like this one gets a little more into the meat of how our campaign sessions truly went.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: Uh, what's your favorite shenanigan from the campaign?
- 12:57SPEAKER_04: Ooh, that's tough.
- 12:58SPEAKER_04: I think the one that stands out in my mind was I can't remember who we were fighting, but something was flying away, and I had Everdash stand on a harpoon with his spider climbing boots, and then f and then Yostix fired him out of that, and he flew across to hit the thing flying in the air, and then he jumped on it and started stabbing it.
- 13:20SPEAKER_04: Like that was just ridiculous, but it was so funny.
- 13:23SPEAKER_07: We were on Haraman's Hill because like a Vrock stole Lulu or something, and we need wasp.
- 13:27SPEAKER_07: A hell wasp.
- 13:28SPEAKER_07: That's right, it was a giant wasp, and we had to like not lose Lulu.
- 13:31SPEAKER_07: Yes, that was epic.
- 13:32SPEAKER_07: I I love that.
- 13:33SPEAKER_07: That was a good moment.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Uh, Matt, I'm really surprised you didn't bring up um one of your finer moments, which was uh having to do the mockerena to gain entrance into a fort.
- 13:46SPEAKER_04: Wait, you need to remind me of what I had to do there.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: That was you, wasn't it?
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: It was the whole party.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, it was the whole party.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: Oh man, I know this.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: The uh the guards uh to one of the forts that you tried to gain entrance to, Fort Knucklebone.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: Uh they made you try to do the Macarena to get in.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: Really, they were just bullshitting you guys, but you did it.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: So it worked out really well.
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: But so maybe that's one of my favorites because I made your characters do the Macarena.
- 14:16SPEAKER_05: One of my favorites was when we were scouting out a particular tavern and just so happened to decimate the entire place to the ground because of one ill-placed fireball.
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: Is there ever a non-ill-placed fireball?
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: Good point.
- 14:32SPEAKER_07: The the best part about that whole ordeal was it was like, we're just gonna light a fire to cause a distraction.
- 14:39SPEAKER_07: Level five fireball, boom!
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: Blew that's hand off the boat.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: I would say one that we haven't really touched on yet, though, is some of the NPCs that we had join our party for times.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, we had Rea, what was her last name?
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: Mantlehorn.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: Um, and Yostix, which Yostix is his own his own full character.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: Uh Phil, please, please give us a little feel description of who you created as Yostix.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Yostix uh was a cleric that we added to the party.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: Um was a little nervous about the party going into Avernus without a dedicated healer because Thorne's a paladin, but loves the smiting.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: He's a good healer too, but loves the smiting.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: So um created Yoestix, a um trickery domain cleric.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: He was a gnome to interject a little bit of healing to the party.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: Uh definitely wasn't the only thing that Yostix interjected into the party by any means.
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: Uh he was a uh Mom isn't one.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: Let's be honest, he was a horny little bastard, right?
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: He just he kind of was.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: He couldn't help himself.
- 15:47SPEAKER_02: Um But uh one thing I want to come back to that we managed to skip here in the shenanigans section, Brett slash Ari.
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: Uh oh.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: Was Ari's super sticks mobiles.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: Ah yes.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: So one of Ari's other traits is that once he sets his mind to something, he gets obsessed with it.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Uh and Ari became obsessed with um being the first being to start a war machine, infernal war machine uh dealership in Avernus.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: So Ari came up with his own name, he had a business plan, he had a location set out, uh set aside, and was working on getting um uh plenty of funding to be able to start his own dealership.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Um it was gonna be Ari's Super Sticks Mobiles.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: The only thing in my notes after that is says logo pending.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: It is still pending.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: He's still working on it.
- 16:43SPEAKER_05: I mean, there were still business discussions going on in our last session, so I guess it's going on as of right now.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: The real question is gonna be booming.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: The real question is did you guys do you still have the speaking stone so you can still talk to I think we do?
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: Yes, I think we can get them, yeah.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: Sounds like it's still on.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: Sounds like I've got a general manager and a Vernus ready to open up shop.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: I'm Arya Vedas, the dealer for the demons.
- 17:10SPEAKER_07: I'll make a deal for you.
- 17:12SPEAKER_07: Oh, there we go.
- 17:13SPEAKER_07: We need to record that one.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: Uh back on so so another uh toxic DM trait that I have is uh giving you guys overpowered items.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: So just kind of thinking back to your character, what's uh either like the most overpowered magical item, most overpowered like weapon or armor that you that I gave you that you can remember?
- 17:38SPEAKER_07: I don't know if my adamantine plate armor is necessarily overpowered, but you definitely gave it to me extremely cheap, I feel.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, come on.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Thorne had about 43 magical items that were all overpowered.
- 17:51SPEAKER_07: What were my I don't even know if they want to do it?
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: You know you gave away too many magical items when they're like, oh, which do I have to attune to?
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: I've got like six attunement items.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Man, I think there was a ring that I never used.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Ross is over here like pulling out his random facts that we would use and just randomly, oh hey, I have this new magical item, or my magical item has this new ability.
- 18:12SPEAKER_07: Hey, I just said it was possible that my deity grant that to me, but I don't know if my DM ever granted it to me, so it's fine.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: I want to know what Everdash thinks his most overpowered weapon is, and then I'll tell you what it was.
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: It was definitely the immovable rod.
- 18:31SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 18:32SPEAKER_04: It wasn't the silvered skull katana that you gave me.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: Way, way, way too early in the campaign.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: I think dealed out like 30 to 60 damage per turn.
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, it was ridiculous, and I was never gonna let it go.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: And it hit like all the time, too.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: You rarely missed with it.
- 18:50SPEAKER_04: Man, especially towards the end when I had a plus twelve to hit, and it does what a 3d6 damage.
- 18:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that would do.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Yostix appreciates your shout-out to his um, you know, immovable rod as well.
- 19:09SPEAKER_04: At one point we were passing around items too, right?
- 19:12SPEAKER_04: I I feel like I gave the ring of fireball to someone.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: Uh I think Ari ended up with that, didn't you?
- 19:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:19SPEAKER_04: Because I couldn't attuned anything else.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: Uh I think so, but then Ari unlocked some fireball spell slots.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 19:27SPEAKER_07: Oh, I had the robe of stars, which gave me the magic missile thing, but I never used the plane shift because I could plane shift to the astral plane.
- 19:34SPEAKER_07: I'm still wearing that, it'll show up again.
- 19:36SPEAKER_07: Don't worry.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: I'll figure out a cool way to use it.
- 19:38SPEAKER_02: I did read about it in the notes today, so you do actually have it.
- 19:41SPEAKER_02: That's a true statement.
- 19:42SPEAKER_07: I was like, that's why I was asking you when you were when you were like, hey, I have this idea to continue this.
- 19:46SPEAKER_07: I'm like, are we going to the astral plane?
- 19:47SPEAKER_07: And I can just like go out.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: So important question for you guys, because I don't remember.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: When you slayed the zombie beholder and you each got one of its eyes that gives you the beam, were those like a limited time use thing?
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: They were, right?
- 20:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:06SPEAKER_07: You gave us like I think it was like per rest, wasn't it?
- 20:10SPEAKER_07: It was.
- 20:10SPEAKER_04: It's once per rest.
- 20:11SPEAKER_07: I only used mine because it yeah, because you never, I don't think you said like once and they're gone.
- 20:17SPEAKER_07: It was like per rest, so we got to keep them.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: Can be used once per day.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: Once per day.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: Well, those are pretty powerful.
- 20:27SPEAKER_07: And Phil's repercussions continue.
- 20:28SPEAKER_07: Magic.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: Like you guys got magic beads.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: There's just so many fun magic items that just kind of dropped into our laps that some we use, some we are still holding on to.
- 20:40SPEAKER_07: Well, do you go ahead?
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: I the one that got used that was pretty powerful at the end, right?
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: Bolts of demon slaying.
- 20:46unknown: Yes.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: I'm pretty sure uh Everdash used.
- 20:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you gave me arrows of demon slaying and arrows of devil slang, which were ridiculously overpowered for that last battle.
- 20:58SPEAKER_04: In hell.
- 20:59SPEAKER_04: Like, come on.
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: What was I thinking?
- 21:03SPEAKER_07: Uh, and we only spent what half a session like planting the beans trying to see what kind of bullshit would happen.
- 21:09SPEAKER_07: They were all it was all worthless stuff, yes.
- 21:13SPEAKER_04: They were worth uh worthless.
- 21:15SPEAKER_04: I think that mine started a campfire or something like that.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: All right, want your guys' opinion here.
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: Cons.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: We've been super positive.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: All the things we've loved.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: Was there anything you didn't love?
- 21:29SPEAKER_07: Uh I'll jump in, and this one's actually directed toward Ari.
- 21:32SPEAKER_07: I mean if you if you had a specific power that that being in hell would not let you do, and I'm thinking of your fire damage.
- 21:40SPEAKER_07: This was a very one path oriented type thing.
- 21:45SPEAKER_07: Like we weren't facing anything.
- 21:46SPEAKER_07: There wasn't like we weren't facing a lot of different monsters.
- 21:50SPEAKER_07: They were all demons, devils, or something to do with that.
- 21:54SPEAKER_07: So it's like our silvered weapons work, but we never really faced anything to give us a taste of something else.
- 22:00SPEAKER_07: Or or maybe that was by the time we got to the end, we were kind of OP'd, so it's like we were facing things we knew we could take down.
- 22:05SPEAKER_07: That that was the one downside to this campaign, I think, for me.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so Ari as an effredi genie was mostly focused on fire and fire damage, fire spells, and everything I had basically got cut in half.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: They ever pretty much everything had uh resistance to it, which hurt, but that was more character building and it was fine.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: I think you were able to acquire some items too that got around some of those limitations, but it did suck that you know, like on your um and I think I had I think I had to adapt to Eldridge Blast.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: That's what it's called.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: I couldn't think of the word on your Eldritch Blast.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: Because your extra damage on every blast you would do, or like on your first blast was fire, and that would always get cut like on each of your attacks.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: So that's annoying.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: And I think there was enough other damage dealers in the party that I didn't have to be a main damage dealer at all.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: I could shift into being some sort of um hybrid utility character more than a damage dealer.
- 23:09SPEAKER_05: I kind of felt the same way as Ari, whereas, you know, being a fighter, you know, a lot of my melee weapons, you know, half the shit down in Avernus was flying.
- 23:20SPEAKER_05: So there wasn't a lot of, you know, to be honest, so there wasn't a lot of times where I was actually able to use a melee weapon as an attack.
- 23:28SPEAKER_05: So I mean, by the end of the campaign, I was leaning heavily on my light crossbow, which it ended up working out 90% of the time, but it just you know wasn't as easy as when we were up top.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: Kind of underpowered for the end of a campaign, right?
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 23:47SPEAKER_07: I I I would say if if you really, really, really love combat, although there was a lot of combat in this campaign, it had a lot of role-playing.
- 23:57SPEAKER_07: Like we talked ourselves out of a lot of things.
- 23:59SPEAKER_07: And it's like if you're not used to that, I I don't know how this would be different if you like if you were just a run and gun fight all the time, or how it would have turned out for us if we would have done that.
- 24:09SPEAKER_07: Because we did talk ourselves out of a lot of things.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: That might have been having a warlock in the party, though, and having a high persuasion being able to talk to out of your out of some of those situations.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: Uh depending on your party makeup, it could wildly shift that.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Uh how would you think, Phil?
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: Uh, coming from the DM side.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I would say so too.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: So I I do think that for like Asterisk being there was more challenging as a melee fighter.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: I do think you, you know, you were able to find some things, Isaac, that you could use.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: Sure, you fell back to using your crossbow and then you acquired like a dancing long sword.
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: So you were able to kind of supplement you know what weapons you had.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: But yeah, thankfully, you know, it could have gone a lot differently, right?
- 24:52SPEAKER_02: You guys talked yourselves out of a lot of situations.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: Even we the very last session we had, right?
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: The guys asked me at the top of the episode, like, hey, is this gonna be like the night?
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: Is this the end?
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: Like, oh, you know, no, like this will take us three whatever sessions.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: And basically, you know, you rolled like multiple times and you came up with a good plan, and you were persuasive to kind of get around a lot of potential altercations.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: And you know, we ended that night.
- 25:21SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, it went much faster than I anticipated, but that's that is winning the battle.
- 25:27SPEAKER_02: So it's not always done via sword, but in the case of a melee fighter, yeah, a Vernus can be a little bit tough, especially if you don't have a DM that grants you a bunch of magical items, you could do very little damage with your regular melee weapons.
- 25:46SPEAKER_05: And to Phil's point, you know, I was expecting like a very combat heavy last session.
- 25:53SPEAKER_05: Well, that was the session before the last session was very combat heavy.
- 25:57SPEAKER_05: You know, the last session was like, I was like, we're done.
- 26:00SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: It was I was very pleased, don't get me wrong, but uh it kind of gave us all whiplash, I would say.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: It was just, yeah.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: You mean because the session before you basically took down a god?
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: It was fun.
- 26:18SPEAKER_04: I mean, I guess one con for me would be that I felt like even though we finished this campaign, I feel really good about it.
- 26:25SPEAKER_04: I felt like there's a lot of lore or there's a lot of pieces that are just left out there that we didn't get to explore as much as maybe I would have liked to.
- 26:33SPEAKER_04: Like when we met Archon the Cruel.
- 26:35SPEAKER_04: Like that's a pretty big character in DD lore, and we kind of just shot through that real quick and never really evaluated like why he was there.
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so I will say, you know, there's a lot, and this is probably true in any campaign, there's a lot that goes undiscovered, in essence, right?
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: Because there's a lot in the book potentially of thing the way things could go, right?
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: Or uh even in this book, there are two paths you can take, and you guys picked one path.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: When you pick one path, the other path basically is gone.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: So there are like all of these alternate can like pieces that could happen to get you kind of to the same endpoint, but you wouldn't have met some of the same people you did on this path.
- 27:24SPEAKER_02: There's a chance you never met Archon the Cruel, which would have been really crappy considering you had a pardon letter, right?
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: So you picked the right path, but there are differences like that.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: And didn't you mention, Phil, that at the end of the campaign, the possible endings, there was like seven or eight different possible endings based on decisions that we made, even right up near the end.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, decisions that you made and your roles too.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: So Ari had a fantastic role at the very end to make the biggest decision of the entire campaign.
- 27:57SPEAKER_02: And if that would have failed, even just on that singular success or failure, there were like three or four different things that could happen after that failure alone.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: So I would say if you want to play Descent into Avernus, you can listen to us, but you can have a completely different experience.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: There's so much flexibility in this campaign, uh, especially based on your characters that you pick or how you play this, lots of different ways you can lots of different ways it could go.
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: So a question for you guys, after we've kind of had that discussion, do you think that a first-time player could get into DD playing through this campaign?
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: You think if you'd never played before and you sat down to play this, how would you feel?
- 28:44SPEAKER_07: I would say yes.
- 28:45SPEAKER_07: Only because it does a nice job of setting you up in Baldur's Gate.
- 28:49SPEAKER_07: Like it doesn't drop you into fighting demons and devils right away.
- 28:51SPEAKER_07: I mean, there's a nice little setup and gets you where you need to go.
- 28:54SPEAKER_07: I mean, we've talked about this before where a lot of these books are meant for, you know, first-level characters through 13th level.
- 28:59SPEAKER_07: So this is technically a beginner level campaign.
- 29:03SPEAKER_07: So it's it's always gonna set you up in that sense.
- 29:06SPEAKER_07: Um another thing that we've talked about in the past that's very relevant here.
- 29:11SPEAKER_07: I think it's good for first-level players, maybe not necessarily for a first-level DM.
- 29:15SPEAKER_07: I think if you're gonna start DMing, you should probably still run through starter pack, essentials pack before you get into any of the published campaigns, just because there's so much more to them.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: And maybe run as a player, run some sort of one-shot or short little couple session campaign ahead of this just to get your feet wet before jumping into this extended full-length campaign.
- 29:38SPEAKER_05: Uh, I agree with uh what Ross was saying.
- 29:41SPEAKER_05: You know, you can come in as you know, a beginner because there's enough topside play before you get down into a Vernus.
- 29:51SPEAKER_05: But I do think that this would be a very hard campaign to run as a fresh DM.
- 29:58SPEAKER_05: Just because of like what we were just saying, you know, there's so many potential outcomes that it would really take like a keen eye to be able to see into the future, for lack of better terminology.
- 30:11SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 30:12SPEAKER_05: Like as many decisions as there are to make in this campaign to be able to see the end game.
- 30:20SPEAKER_07: I I will say having read some reviews about this campaign, one of the the complaints is, and this would be maybe where it's not great for first-time players, is that that initial encounter with the captain, the pirate captain in the bar is actually one of the hardest initial combat encounters that you can have in any published novel.
- 30:42SPEAKER_07: And so it's like getting into that and recollecting like I went down on that one.
- 30:48SPEAKER_07: I don't remember who else went down.
- 30:49SPEAKER_02: Oh, it wasn't just you.
- 30:50SPEAKER_02: I looked at that one today.
- 30:52SPEAKER_02: You guys almost died.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: If the bar patrons, if the bar patrons wouldn't have stepped in, you guys would have died.
- 30:58SPEAKER_07: So I would say if you do run this, maybe tone that down, Mr.
- 31:01SPEAKER_07: Hare.
- 31:02SPEAKER_07: Your party's not gonna know the difference.
- 31:03SPEAKER_07: But other than that, I do think the beginning was solid enough that it it does a good job setting you up and getting you into a vernace to the hard the tougher stuff.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: Ross brings up a good point here, and this is disrupting us a little bit here, but TPKs, because you guys almost died in session one.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: In the bar.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: You didn't, you were fine, that session.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: But let's talk about the real TPK.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: And you know, I feel like there's no one better to give us this narrative than Ari.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Okay, here we go.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, hey, let me grab one too.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: So this this brings up memories.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: Uh so early on, it was one of the early sessions.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: And the here are there's some spoilers coming up.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: If you haven't played, uh take note of this or don't take a note of this, uh, be warned.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: Uh but we were going under the lighthouse into under the under the bathhouse into some sewers.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: Um everybody else in the party everybody else in the party had dark vision.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: So they could see in this dark sewer.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: And so I'm walking in there as the only normal human that couldn't see down there.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: Uh, and I'm like, oh, I need a light.
- 32:18SPEAKER_07: And I tried to help him out because as a paladin, I could cast light on an object.
- 32:22SPEAKER_07: So I found a skull and I cast light on it, and being the nice guy that Thorne is, he tossed it over to Ari, who flipped his shit uh and said he didn't want it.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: I was like, no, I've got a uh a torch here, so I'm just going to use one of my matches, light this torch, and follow in after you guys.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: So I was the last one to go into the sewer.
- 32:43SPEAKER_05: But that wasn't there also some mention, Brett, about how maybe there was a weird smell coming from the next chamber before you entered.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: Well, maybe, but I mean Ari's just used to that smell.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: Like he stinks normally, so I'm sure he didn't think anything about it.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: So in we go to this um smelly room down in the uh sewers.
- 33:05SPEAKER_07: So you know Phil probably was like, roll perception, guys, and did that like three times, and we were all probably like, we don't smell shit.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: As we go into this um deep dark depths of the sewer, the torch that I had lights some gaseous fumes, and boom, and we all go down.
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: And Tear rushed in to save the day.
- 33:30SPEAKER_01: And I mean, we we had multiple rolls in there that could have saved us.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: None of them worked.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: So, and it actually happened in two parts.
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: So initially, when you walked in, there was an explosion, and the two of you that were the furthest in were down by the explosion, but there was a chance that the roof wouldn't collapse.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: That's what it was.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: But via a poor roll, the roof collapsed on the other two, and the whole party was down.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: So there was an intervention between Thorn and Tyr.
- 33:59SPEAKER_07: Yes, thus there was a week of chats in the Discord where we hashed out and negotiated a truce so that we could all be saved and continue the campaign.
- 34:07SPEAKER_07: That's what happened.
- 34:08SPEAKER_02: It was too early to lose camera.
- 34:10SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: Let's be honest.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, if Ari would have died on that one, yeah, maybe rightfully so.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: So, word to the wise, if you have an opportunity to use something other than a torch, maybe consider it.
- 34:23SPEAKER_07: That's good advice.
- 34:24SPEAKER_07: I can't say anything to that.
- 34:25SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 34:27SPEAKER_02: So kind of talking, you know, said Brett, you just said that you know, if if Ari went down, maybe not the worst thing of the world that early on in the campaign.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: If you guys were gonna play this again, would you play the same character?
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: I would, yes.
- 34:40SPEAKER_07: I I liked how Thorne developed through the whole thing.
- 34:43SPEAKER_07: Um, I do think how he's built, he's a bit of a glass cannon up front.
- 34:48SPEAKER_07: Um, because I went down several times before we ever even got down to a Vernus.
- 34:53SPEAKER_07: Um, but then once we got down there and I got past like level five, and you get start getting into your more advanced smites and things like that, where you can lay on some damage and then picked up some armor and things along the way.
- 35:04SPEAKER_07: I I do think it was a good character for for this campaign, for me anyway.
- 35:08SPEAKER_04: I don't know that I would have picked the same character.
- 35:11SPEAKER_04: I I feel like the Bloodhunter really was only great in this campaign because of all the crazy magic items that I had.
- 35:19SPEAKER_04: But picking Order of the Ghost Slayer and maybe not going with Werewolf, I mean, I don't know.
- 35:25SPEAKER_04: I I just feel like I this character probably isn't the best for something like going into a vernace.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: And I don't think we really touched on this, but Bloodhunter isn't one of the normal um normal classes that you're able to play.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: It comes from Critical Role, doesn't it?
- 35:43SPEAKER_04: It does, yeah.
- 35:44SPEAKER_01: So that's a supplemental thing if you haven't um looked into some of um the extra add-ons that Critical Role has developed based on their campaigns.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: Um there's some fun ones in there, and they can can be incorporated, it's up to your DM, into a normal campaign.
- 36:01SPEAKER_05: You know, I loved my character, this campaign as the fighter.
- 36:06SPEAKER_05: But like I said before, I don't necessarily know if I would change because the first half of the campaign I was definitely able to utilize heavy melee.
- 36:21SPEAKER_05: The second half of the campaign it was touch and go, but like I still think that my character did play a role in our particular party as a whole, even though it was a little tougher for me towards the end.
- 36:36SPEAKER_05: I still think that you know I had some good shots and some good hits, and I'm just uh more partial to a fighter anyway, as a player.
- 36:50SPEAKER_05: So I don't know.
- 36:51SPEAKER_05: That's a tough question.
- 36:53SPEAKER_05: But I've also never played very many um what would you say, like magic-based characters before, you know.
- 37:03SPEAKER_05: Really like out of the like the campaigns I've played, it's been mostly melee heavy players.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: I don't think I would change anything about mine.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, being limited on have everything having resistance to fire damage was not the greatest, but uh being able to adapt and roll with it and transition into more of a utility character was a lot of fun for me.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: I like being utility.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: Damage is good, but it's fun to do something different.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: And I definitely think that by adapting your character to Bret, you saved the party from a lot of potentially terrible outcomes.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, at one point I took a a spell intentionally for Everdash.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: Uh it was remove curse, because at one point Everdash got a like a death curse put on him and was going to die within 24 hours.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: And so after that point, I made sure to take the spell just to be able to cover us in case uh things went sideways.
- 38:04SPEAKER_02: I actually think I had that too, but by the time we got to just in case that mummy rot came back, mummy rot and then uh oh asterisk and the enfeeblement.
- 38:14SPEAKER_02: I feel like some of us also took greater restoration just so we could cure enfeeblement on Asterisk.
- 38:19SPEAKER_02: He fell in the sticks.
- 38:20SPEAKER_05: Just don't fall on that river.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: Don't go for a swim.
- 38:24SPEAKER_05: Oh I I don't don't thrust the dudes behind the counter at the wandering emporium.
- 38:32SPEAKER_05: Slimy Salamanders.
- 38:34SPEAKER_07: Pro tip.
- 38:35SPEAKER_07: You're not giving them a good Yelp review, is that what you're saying?
- 38:38SPEAKER_05: No, definitely not.
- 38:41SPEAKER_07: I I I think just kind of maybe wrapping up our wow, English, geez.
- 38:46SPEAKER_07: Uh wrapping up the character talk here.
- 38:49SPEAKER_07: I think by the time we got to the end, I just from my perspective, I wouldn't have changed any of our characters.
- 38:56SPEAKER_07: Like we did such a good job like playing off of each other and creating like little like like Ari and Thorne.
- 39:02SPEAKER_07: That was I don't know where that came from.
- 39:03SPEAKER_07: It was mostly a hate relationship.
- 39:07SPEAKER_07: Hey, I think I said I loved you at the end.
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: There was a band, there was some banter there.
- 39:10SPEAKER_07: It's fine, but but there was good banter between all of us.
- 39:13SPEAKER_07: I it's it's just that's just our personalities coming out in our character.
- 39:17SPEAKER_07: And it's like I got so attached that I would hate it if we didn't continue in some form because I would hate to see this character go because I feel like I've invested so much.
- 39:26SPEAKER_07: And I think that happens in any campaign.
- 39:28SPEAKER_07: You pay for a certain length of time, you get invested in that character.
- 39:31SPEAKER_07: But I I really feel it with Thorne.
- 39:33SPEAKER_04: I think that's a really good point because that you made, which is where we all kind of filled in naturally and developed our characters over time to fill a spot or to fill you a role somehow to fill in the gaps, which is really a good point.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: Well, and I think it's going to be interesting because I mean I do have plans to continue this campaign outside of Avernus.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: So you know, we planted some seeds uh throughout the campaign, basically for each of your characters.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: So it'll be interesting to see how those roles shift and transition when we're not in Avernus anymore and where we are somewhere where you know a melee fighter is gonna be pivotable.
- 40:13SPEAKER_02: Like it's gonna be huge in the campaign.
- 40:15SPEAKER_02: And without asterisk, you guys would be effed.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: Like it'll just be interesting to see how that changes, especially at level 13.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: Totally.
- 40:24SPEAKER_07: Yeah, because we're all up there now.
- 40:25SPEAKER_07: So, but I mean that's gonna be interesting how Phil's gonna do that because every encounter is gonna be a much higher challenge rating from now on.
- 40:32SPEAKER_07: I think 13 is great.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: I want to take you guys to 20.
- 40:36SPEAKER_07: I hope so.
- 40:36SPEAKER_07: I I mean I think it's so rare that people make it past level 10 half the time that if we can make it to 20, I think that'd be amazing.
- 40:44SPEAKER_07: Just to actually truly flesh out a character from beginning to end will be a lot of fun.
- 40:49SPEAKER_07: But before we move on, I have a question for you because like you were talking about planting seeds.
- 40:53SPEAKER_07: You had some cool things that were off book.
- 40:56SPEAKER_07: Like we all had visions at one point, which I'm pretty sure that was not written in there that you had to do that.
- 41:00SPEAKER_07: And UK, you did some pretty cool things in writing visions for us and stuff.
- 41:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so that that was not in the book, obviously.
- 41:07SPEAKER_02: That was honestly, it was a lot earlier on, maybe, than I anticipated, because we had so much additional campaign left to play.
- 41:15SPEAKER_02: But yeah, those were attempts to you know give us some paths post when this is over.
- 41:20SPEAKER_02: So I I have them if you want, because I'm sure that it's been forever since we've read them.
- 41:25SPEAKER_02: But I also so not just not just the visions, right?
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: Uh does anyone remember Asterisk's trip vaguely?
- 41:35SPEAKER_02: A little bit.
- 41:37SPEAKER_02: I don't remember what caused it.
- 41:40SPEAKER_02: Do you remember that part?
- 41:42SPEAKER_07: I think didn't he have to eat something or do something in the cemetery?
- 41:46SPEAKER_07: Wasn't it around then?
- 41:49SPEAKER_07: No.
- 41:50SPEAKER_07: Asterisk like didn't weren't you late or something to a session, and that was his punishment?
- 41:55SPEAKER_07: It had nothing to do with the story.
- 41:56SPEAKER_07: I think it was it was just punishment or something.
- 41:59SPEAKER_05: No, I was like 30 minutes late to a session.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: I don't remember that at all.
- 42:04SPEAKER_05: Sounds about right.
- 42:05SPEAKER_05: No, but here's what it is.
- 42:07SPEAKER_05: I remembered, guys.
- 42:09SPEAKER_05: I remember.
- 42:10SPEAKER_05: It was the Snoop Dogg concert.
- 42:12SPEAKER_05: The Snoop Dogg concert.
- 42:14SPEAKER_08: Oh, that's right.
- 42:16SPEAKER_08: The Snoop Dogg concert.
- 42:18SPEAKER_08: I had to miss.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: That was it.
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: Since Asterisk was busy at the Snoop Dogg concert, uh, he went on a trip that one time.
- 42:31SPEAKER_02: So but just another way, like so on the DM side of the table, right?
- 42:35SPEAKER_02: Finding ways like that to just interject future seeds so that way we can take characters on different arcs once we're done with this campaign.
- 42:42SPEAKER_02: So I I've got some of those written down, we could touch on briefly.
- 42:46SPEAKER_02: It's kind of funny the uh if I look at them just on a sheet of paper, right?
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: I can see that Thorne must have just fed me so much more background information, I feel like, because his is a lot longer than everyone else's.
- 43:01SPEAKER_02: Um, but some of those came from the fun facts.
- 43:03SPEAKER_02: So I I like to leave that up to you guys to kind of feed me what you want.
- 43:07SPEAKER_02: Uh, before I get into your long rest visions, though.
- 43:10SPEAKER_02: On the DM side of the table, too, there's you know, campaign's over, right?
- 43:13SPEAKER_02: So a couple things that I want to talk through with you guys.
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: Um definitely spoiler alert here.
- 43:20SPEAKER_02: Um if you haven't played this and you want to play, I am gonna give away a couple of the details that are in the book.
- 43:27SPEAKER_02: So another warning here, you know, skip this section if you don't want to hear.
- 43:31SPEAKER_02: Uh the Wandering Emporium.
- 43:35SPEAKER_02: First and foremost, Mahati is not a good person.
- 43:44SPEAKER_02: Mahati is is a Rakshasa.
- 43:49SPEAKER_02: A what a basically uh tiger esque lionesque type of being, uh not human.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Uh typically leans towards the evil side, was in league with Asmodeus.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: Keep that in mind when you start super charismatic.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, very charismatic.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: Never mention any ill harm.
- 44:17SPEAKER_02: Definitely a messenger for Asmodius.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: He's the one who has the speaking stone, right?
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: Bernie the Barber.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: Uh basically a follower of Baphomet.
- 44:31SPEAKER_07: Oh god.
- 44:33SPEAKER_02: The good aligned dragon god.
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 44:36SPEAKER_02: Direct opposition to Tiamat.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: That's why she was so interested in what Archon the Cruel and Tiamat were up to.
- 44:44SPEAKER_02: She was reporting back to Baphomet.
- 44:46SPEAKER_01: So why did she wipe our memories?
- 44:48SPEAKER_02: First time she met you, she didn't really know you.
- 44:51SPEAKER_02: Only the first time.
- 44:52SPEAKER_02: Oh you're a subsequent.
- 44:55SPEAKER_07: So you bring back information, it's like now.
- 44:57SPEAKER_07: She didn't.
- 44:58SPEAKER_07: Interesting.
- 44:59SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 45:00SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 45:01SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: Uh you could have struck a deal with Archon to release Timot.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: To potentially break the chains.
- 45:12SPEAKER_02: That held out to relatively round.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: Was that one of our potential game plans at the end?
- 45:16SPEAKER_07: Yeah, because we had that dragon orb thing.
- 45:19SPEAKER_07: That we were like, do we give it to him or not?
- 45:22SPEAKER_07: As a bargaining chip, and somehow we talked our way through that one too.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: Didn't have to.
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: Wise choice.
- 45:29SPEAKER_07: Uh well, that would have made it easier for you because then we just run uh the scabbed.
- 45:34SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about the fucking scab.
- 45:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, all right.
- 45:38SPEAKER_02: So this is not my doing.
- 45:41SPEAKER_02: This is this is just the it's the book's fault, goddammit.
- 45:46SPEAKER_02: So you guys got infernal war vehicles like very shortly after you got into a furnace, right?
- 45:51SPEAKER_02: One of them's equipped with a freaking wrecking ball, right?
- 45:55SPEAKER_02: So you pull up to this giant giant scab that's grown over the bleeding citadel, right?
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: And you gotta get through it to be able to get to the bleeding citadel.
- 46:04SPEAKER_02: So in the book, there's like a 15-room dungeon.
- 46:08SPEAKER_02: So you enter through the top, you work your way down through all these like treacherous blah blah blah things, and at the bottom you get to the citadel.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: So, I mean, you guys are resourceful.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: So, what do you do?
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: You pull up next to the scab, and then you just start pounding it with the wrecking ball on your infernal war machines and skip like 15 rooms in the dungeon.
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: So, another part of this part, like this dungeon, is that you release Crokotoic, the giant demon with all of the other ones pouring out of its mouth.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: Another possibility to you know release El Terrell to break the chains is Crokotoic.
- 46:44SPEAKER_02: So had to have you release him, so made that part all up as far as you actually getting close enough to like break through the side, because you had to release him just in case you needed it.
- 46:55SPEAKER_02: Uh, but you skipped absolutely everything else in that dungeon and made it to the end.
- 46:59SPEAKER_02: Uh, not super important, right?
- 47:01SPEAKER_02: You didn't miss anything big, but just one of those things that the book set you up for that.
- 47:05SPEAKER_02: Like, I had nothing to do with how that went down.
- 47:08SPEAKER_02: It's just you guys using your your skills and what you had available to you.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: And I don't think we really made that whole thing, even it gave it a second of thought.
- 47:17SPEAKER_01: It was just like, oh, let's just smash our way in.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: And we did.
- 47:21SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 47:23SPEAKER_07: Yeah, what do you think of this?
- 47:24SPEAKER_07: Well, I think it was like when we pulled up, like we didn't see another option there.
- 47:28SPEAKER_07: And we had the wrecking ball, so it was just like, okay, let's just go up and start bashing, right?
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: When I think you tried, you're like, well, let's see if this works.
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: And yeah, yeah, yes, it does.
- 47:38SPEAKER_02: Like, shit.
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: Oh, we found the door.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: Good job, guys.
- 47:41SPEAKER_01: It gave extra damage to structures.
- 47:43SPEAKER_03: Yes, it did extra damage to structures.
- 47:45SPEAKER_03: Like, this is stupid.
- 47:47unknown: Oh, God.
- 47:48SPEAKER_03: And that's how you skip through like two extra sessions.
- 47:52SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 47:52SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 47:53SPEAKER_03: Easily.
- 47:54SPEAKER_03: Easily.
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: Uh what else?
- 47:56SPEAKER_02: Oh, uh, the flying fortress that was downed when you went to go find the Adamantium rods.
- 48:02SPEAKER_02: The uh like hyena jackal thing that was in the corner, the knull, the knoll that was over in the corner, uh, technically was not a knull.
- 48:11SPEAKER_02: It was a death slot, which is like this weird frog-looking thing that had been hit by an enfeeblement spell and shape changed.
- 48:20SPEAKER_02: So if you would have tried to like cast greater restoration on him or something like that, because he was basically uh like acting somewhat crazy, or uh, it would have healed him and he would have tried to kill you.
- 48:34SPEAKER_02: Oh, and then you would have been forced back out into the flying fortress with everything else he's trying to kill.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, almost did kill you.
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was a that was a crazy we did the right thing and dodged that.
- 48:47SPEAKER_02: You did the right thing by not doing anything.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 48:50SPEAKER_02: Perfect.
- 48:50SPEAKER_02: And I'm so glad you guys cracked that super hard safe code that came out of the book.
- 48:58SPEAKER_02: So any DMs out there, change the code because 666 is a terrible code when you're in hell.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: They spent a lot of time thinking through that one.
- 49:10SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, we have a safe in uh in hell, the top layer of hell.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: What you think it would be?
- 49:16SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: 6969.
- 49:21SPEAKER_01: No, let's go 666.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: That's so much better.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: Uh let's see.
- 49:29SPEAKER_02: The you were in Idle Glenn, uh, towards the end of the campaign, uh, in Lulu's memory, but Lulu's memory where you could die, actually die.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: So you fight some battles, uh, got some good, you know, interactions in, got to use those astral caltra astral caltrops, asterisk, you finally got to use those.
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: Uh, fought the giant ape thing, and then you get hit with Inagu, right?
- 49:58SPEAKER_02: Almost basically a demon god, in essence.
- 50:02SPEAKER_02: Uh you guys were so powerful at that stage in the campaign that I had to have Zariel step in before you killed Inagu in order for the story to be able to continue.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: And she definitely just swooped in there and stole your guys' kill because there is no way that you would have been bested in that battle.
- 50:26SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 50:27SPEAKER_07: So, did it did it give a contingency if we would have killed him?
- 50:31SPEAKER_02: Oh no.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, it was supposed to be a beatdown?
- 50:34SPEAKER_02: And it was like number of rounds, it's like after three rounds, but Inagu's aerial is supposed to swoop in and save you.
- 50:40SPEAKER_02: Meanwhile, we're like Rocky, like round 15.
- 50:42SPEAKER_01: Bring it on my bitch! Like, we had that.
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, I was I was pissed.
- 50:48SPEAKER_01: You didn't came in and like, what the hell?
- 50:52SPEAKER_03: Yes, you did.
- 50:54SPEAKER_03: I yeah, I was getting a little nervous, not gonna lie.
- 51:00SPEAKER_02: I think that those are the big ones.
- 51:02SPEAKER_02: Like, those are the ones that stick out in my mind.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: Well, and oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:06SPEAKER_02: Almost forgot this most important one.
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: The beginning of the campaign.
- 51:10SPEAKER_02: Top side hadn't gotten to a Vernus yet.
- 51:13SPEAKER_02: Vanthumper villa.
- 51:14SPEAKER_02: You're going to investigate the Vanthampers, figure out what the hell's going on with the trip the cult of the dead three.
- 51:21SPEAKER_02: And you go to meet Thirstwell.
- 51:25SPEAKER_02: And he's this weird-looking dude, skinny, scrawny little guy.
- 51:30SPEAKER_02: You walk in the room.
- 51:32SPEAKER_02: I don't even know what happened to cause the throwdown initially.
- 51:36SPEAKER_02: He's supposed to deliver some important information to you.
- 51:40SPEAKER_02: And what happens?
- 51:42SPEAKER_02: Everdash teabags him in the face via misty step, whips out his katada, and kills him.
- 51:50SPEAKER_02: Just like that.
- 51:52SPEAKER_02: So then I had to figure out another delivery mechanism.
- 51:54SPEAKER_07: We're probably that's the only lucky that's the only thing he whipped out on that one.
- 51:58SPEAKER_02: This was pre-Yostix.
- 51:59SPEAKER_02: It's fine.
- 52:00SPEAKER_02: P.Y.
- 52:00SPEAKER_02: pre-Yostix.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: He's a blood hunter.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: It's what he does.
- 52:05SPEAKER_02: I think that was the only other one I could think of.
- 52:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, insight.
- 52:11SPEAKER_02: Any of that interesting, I guess.
- 52:13SPEAKER_02: Like what a thoughts on that?
- 52:16SPEAKER_07: I mean, it it's what happens in every campaign, right?
- 52:19SPEAKER_07: And so it's like we BSed our way through a lot of crap that so one thing I'd like you to talk about.
- 52:26SPEAKER_07: So we the path we didn't take was also a whole section in the book, I'm guessing that it was.
- 52:31SPEAKER_02: So you guys picked what they call the path of the devils, which is why you primarily um dealt with devils in a lot of what you did, I think.
- 52:41SPEAKER_02: Yes, that sounds right.
- 52:42SPEAKER_02: Path of the devils.
- 52:44SPEAKER_02: Um so that where you kept going from place to place to place, and it's like, well, I need this, and then you would go see that person.
- 52:51SPEAKER_02: They're like, Well, I need this, and then you go see that person, and I need this.
- 52:54SPEAKER_02: You had to go like get the vial of blood, and then go back to Uldrock and get his blood, and then go back to Rozala, and like all of these different things you had to do, that was your path.
- 53:04SPEAKER_02: The path of the demons basically would have had to do something similar, but totally different interactions, totally different characters.
- 53:14SPEAKER_02: Like you would have never um met Bell.
- 53:17SPEAKER_02: Like that one doesn't go through Bell.
- 53:19SPEAKER_02: You would have never met um who was I just had the name.
- 53:26SPEAKER_02: Um, Red Ruth, Rosala.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: Like, none of those would have happened.
- 53:30SPEAKER_02: It's a totally different side.
- 53:32SPEAKER_02: There was a character um that gets mentioned in in-game uh Olanthius.
- 53:36SPEAKER_02: You never met Olantheus, but he was an original um what are they called?
- 53:42SPEAKER_02: I lost him.
- 53:43SPEAKER_02: Hellrider.
- 53:44SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 53:44SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 53:45SPEAKER_02: He was original Hellrider.
- 53:47SPEAKER_02: Uh so there were just pieces like that where I had to be careful even in endgame to make sure that I matched up details with the path that you chose.
- 53:54SPEAKER_02: So yeah, if you were to sit down and play this, you know, choosing a different path, you wouldn't even recognize the game.
- 54:00SPEAKER_02: You wouldn't.
- 54:01SPEAKER_07: So I I like this because this is basically QA with the uh the DM here.
- 54:04SPEAKER_07: So so I think at one point I had tried to weasel a name out of one of the the devils or demons, and you were a little coy about it.
- 54:13SPEAKER_07: And the only reason I brought that up is there's like some pop culture I had seen somewhere in a movie book, something where it's like if you know the name of the devil or the demon, like you have advanced advantage over them.
- 54:23SPEAKER_07: So that's what I was trying to play.
- 54:25SPEAKER_02: It was that something there were you just playing that off that way, or uh if I remember, so I'm trying to think back to what the devil's entry says in like the monster manual, and I do think that it mentions something about names having power, but I don't necessarily remember the mechanics that are involved around that.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: So, yes, that's where that came from, because it was relatively early on, and we had sort of reviewed the devils and the nine hells, like just to get comfortable with that information.
- 54:53SPEAKER_02: So it was top of mind.
- 54:54SPEAKER_02: But if there's actual mechanics around it, I don't remember for sure.
- 54:58SPEAKER_02: Um, I'd have to go look it up.
- 55:00SPEAKER_02: Kind of wish I would have came up with somebody's name just to see what we would do for it.
- 55:04SPEAKER_02: File that one way in the memory banks.
- 55:08SPEAKER_02: Now you guys have any other questions, I guess, since I'm being pretty uh free and loose with the answers here.
- 55:13SPEAKER_07: How about Zariel?
- 55:14SPEAKER_07: Because I feel like we've all we only scratched the surface of like I mean, we we we met her and then we turned her.
- 55:20SPEAKER_07: And there had to have been more there.
- 55:22SPEAKER_07: So how how else could that end game have gone for us?
- 55:27SPEAKER_07: Obviously, there was we we could have tried to kill her, but I'm guessing there were other options as well.
- 55:32SPEAKER_07: So what what were those?
- 55:34SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 55:35SPEAKER_02: So option option retribution, right?
- 55:40SPEAKER_02: Like what you guys were able to do, restore her soul.
- 55:44SPEAKER_02: You offer the sword, you have Lulu with you, you have a fan fucking task persuasion roll, Ari.
- 55:52SPEAKER_02: She accepts the sword, she's redeemed.
- 55:55SPEAKER_02: Perfect plan.
- 55:56SPEAKER_02: Plan B.
- 55:57SPEAKER_02: All of these things are true except for the persuasion roll, and you fail the persuasion roll.
- 56:01SPEAKER_02: At which point, Zariel reaches out and grabs the sword and destroys it.
- 56:07SPEAKER_02: Therefore, all hope of redemption is lost.
- 56:11SPEAKER_02: So then you've got some paths.
- 56:14SPEAKER_02: Are you going to submit to Zariel?
- 56:17SPEAKER_02: Because you can.
- 56:18SPEAKER_02: And she could send you back to the material plane, and you could serve her evil intentions on the material plane.
- 56:25SPEAKER_02: Uh, she you can try to attack her.
- 56:28SPEAKER_02: And if you would have tried to attack her, you might have defeated Yinagu.
- 56:33SPEAKER_02: I don't think I would allow you be Zariel.
- 56:35SPEAKER_02: She probably would have killed you.
- 56:36SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure I would have let you win that one.
- 56:38SPEAKER_07: Fair enough.
- 56:39SPEAKER_02: Um you could try to parlay with her to be able to serve her in a Vernus and not be sent back to the material plane.
- 56:52SPEAKER_02: But she would most likely convert you into a spine devil, a pit fiend, like some ba she would have converted you into some sort of a devil to serve in her army.
- 57:05SPEAKER_02: Be another potential option.
- 57:07SPEAKER_02: Um you could have tried to strike a deal with Bell, with um Archon the cruel, with I'm trying to think of who else you guys ran into that were like uh Gargoth, the hidden lord.
- 57:25SPEAKER_02: Fucker.
- 57:26SPEAKER_02: Uh could have tried to strike a deal with one of those guys to potentially swoop in and try to help you overthrow Zariel as well.
- 57:33SPEAKER_02: Um they could have tried to come to your aid.
- 57:35SPEAKER_02: Uh escape, not likely, but it's an option.
- 57:40SPEAKER_02: But those that's kinda that's kind of it.
- 57:42SPEAKER_02: Those are basically your choices.
- 57:44SPEAKER_07: Okay, so that that raises a question for the group.
- 57:46SPEAKER_07: So let's say we fail the role and we have to make a choice.
- 57:52SPEAKER_07: Thorne, speaking from my character, would have died before taking any of those.
- 57:57SPEAKER_07: He would have tried to kill her and died in the process before anything happened.
- 58:02SPEAKER_07: What about you guys?
- 58:04SPEAKER_04: I think I would have died in the process.
- 58:05SPEAKER_04: There's no way I'm Everdash would have accepted that deal.
- 58:09SPEAKER_04: Everdash couldn't.
- 58:11SPEAKER_07: That's true because she was a devil.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: Uh I think Ari would have tried to talk his way out of it.
- 58:20SPEAKER_02: Fair.
- 58:21SPEAKER_01: Again.
- 58:22SPEAKER_01: Like or parlay or get out of it or blink into a take everybody into the genie ring and fucking wait it out.
- 58:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, let's be real here.
- 58:30SPEAKER_02: Thorne would have wanted to fight, and Ari would have been like, wait, hold on a second.
- 58:34SPEAKER_02: And then you guys would have pulled some crazy shit and gotten out of it.
- 58:38SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 58:39SPEAKER_02: Like, that's what really would have happened most of the time.
- 58:42SPEAKER_02: Now Asterisk, I feel like would strike first.
- 58:45SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 58:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 58:48SPEAKER_07: As a fighter, we would have tried to pull the uh a vernian version of Hold My Beer.
- 58:55SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 58:57SPEAKER_02: Hold my hoof.
- 58:58SPEAKER_02: Somehow, even though.
- 59:00SPEAKER_02: Okay, here's what would have happened.
- 59:02SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 59:03SPEAKER_02: So once the sword is broken, Lulu realizes that Zario cannot be saved.
- 59:08SPEAKER_02: So Ari convinces Lulu to run distraction.
- 59:12SPEAKER_02: And then you guys would all somehow blink into the ring, plane shift out of there.
- 59:17SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't know what it's going to look like, but you can plane shift.
- 59:21SPEAKER_02: You can blink it in the ring.
- 59:22SPEAKER_03: He would put plane shift as that.
- 59:25SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 59:25SPEAKER_02: Ari would get everybody in the ring.
- 59:27SPEAKER_02: Thorn would wear the ring.
- 59:28SPEAKER_02: Oh god.
- 59:29SPEAKER_02: You plane shift out of there.
- 59:30SPEAKER_02: Now the important question is can you take the devil's right in the ring?
- 59:34SPEAKER_02: Sorry, Asterisk.
- 59:36SPEAKER_02: Still didn't make it.
- 59:36SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah, I was gonna say it still didn't make it.
- 59:38SPEAKER_06: It might be a deal breaker.
- 59:40SPEAKER_07: I I mean, so the the planetar, the thing in the in the orb still would have been an option to us that Bell wanted us to release.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: You could have released the planetar yourself with the Adamantium rods.
- 59:52SPEAKER_07: Would it have reasoned with us or would it have just done whatever it wanted?
- 59:56SPEAKER_02: You could have reasoned with it because you would have freed it.
- 59:57SPEAKER_02: It was trapped there.
- 59:58SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 59:59SPEAKER_07: And is it is it a good was it a good aligned?
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_07: I believe it's neutral.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_07: Well, that's better than everybody else we flipping face down there.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_04: Was it more powerful than Zareel?
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_02: Uh no, I don't believe it was more powerful.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_02: Um I would honestly have to like look at challenge ratings, but I Zario could take a planetar just where she was at, especially like in demon form as an arch fiend.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_02: Pretty, pretty powerful.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_07: So could we have gotten away from her and bought ourselves enough time to cut the chains and plane shift?
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_07: See, the whole thing in the back of my mind is when when we changed her, it broke the deal.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_07: It broke her her contract.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_07: So even if we would have broke the chain, sent El Torrel back, El Torel still technically belonged to her because of the contract, which still would have existed, so she could have just taken it back.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_02: You are correct.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_02: You would not have broken the contract yet.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_02: You would have returned El TRL to the material plane, but it would not have been released.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_07: So, okay, so random.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_07: Well, see, now we're getting into the weeds here.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_07: So so I really wanted to kill Fabius Cree, which is totally what I did.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_07: The contract was with him for El Tyrell.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_07: So would killing him have broke the contract?
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_02: It would not have broken the contract.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_02: That is very explicit in the book.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_07: Really?
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_07: That's weird that the killing a member of the contract does not break a party in the contract, does not break the contract.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_02: Because when the um people of El Tyrell signed the contract, they signed the contract.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_02: They signed on to it.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_02: Whatever the book was.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_07: That's right.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_02: They were individually bound.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_02: So they were in okay.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_02: Yes, that's why killing him would not nullify the whole thing.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_07: Because it wasn't just him.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_07: That's why.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_02: No, but the deal was with Zariel.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_02: So that's why break the city.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_02: They were parties of the deal.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_02: She was the other party.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_02: That's why I broke it.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: So going back to early on, Baldur's Gate, there were so many different places that we could have gone.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_01: Is there any major things that we missed out on there that would have been really fun?
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_02: The beginning part's pretty railroady.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_02: So no, you didn't really miss out on anything.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_02: Um your main points of interest were the Basculus Gate, where everything starts, um, the Elf Song Tavern, which is where you first hear about the companion and the Hellriders.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_02: Um, and then the Low Lantern, truthfully.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_02: The Bathhouse, Low Lantern.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_02: Um Villa.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, kind of on the tail end of Bathhouse, yeah, as Villa.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_02: Um then after the Villa, you well, I think it was Yeah.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_02: Then you guys went to Yeah, then you went to the Temple of Gond, which uh isn't necessarily Yeah, I actually do think that was in the book.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_02: And then from there, as long as you get to Candle Keep, that's kind of the way that goes.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_02: Now the book had you go across like this weird bridge, which no one really remembers, and I forced you to go to the bridge and on the DM side of the table, like if I were gonna run this again, I wouldn't do that.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_02: I don't feel like it added anything to the campaign.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_02: But you're supposed to go to a bridge, everyone rolls a D20 at the beginning of one episode, and the lowest role gets robbed.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_02: And they take something of value off that character, and then you have to basically like chase them across the bridge to get it back.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_07: Did one of us get robbed?
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think they tried and you didn't you caught them.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_02: So it didn't go down that way.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_02: No, so that's not how it ended up going down.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_02: But I I don't really think that anything was gained there, other than we maybe could have had a chase sequence, possibly.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_02: But in my mind, it doesn't add anything.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_02: It really took you off the path because you had to go from Baldur's Gate and you had to go this weird way to get across the bridge, and you guys already had a ship.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_02: So you could have just got on your ship from Baldur's Gate and shot right down to Candle Keep.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_02: Which BS we have a ship to go meet with a shit ton of gunpowder board.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_02: Because you guys commandeered pirates.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_02: Yes, dang right.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_01: That was low, low level commandeering.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_02: Ari once again swoops in, disguised himself as the captain so you could fool the crew.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was some fudging of spells.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_02: It was early on.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_02: It's fine.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_01: Like at level 13, yeah, I could do that easily.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_01: But uh level what four?
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_01: Did you have the hat of disguise?
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_01: No, I did not.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_01: You know, rules are meant to be bent.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_01: It's fine.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_01: That's why I got the hat of disguise so I could justify.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_07: Um, one one of the things that that has popped back into my mind is when we got to Haramon's Hill because like you had like the traitors or whatever that were up on the trees.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_07: And I I had thought about because we met the vampire guy that was up there.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_07: He was one of the ones we were supposed to talk to.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_07: And I had thought about trying to strike a deal with one of them where like I would try to pray to tear and to grant them like some sort of forgiveness if they would help us on our way.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_07: Was there any way like we could enlist them, like free them while we were there?
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_02: If you would have attempted to release one or do something along those lines, the sturgis just would have attacked you earlier.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_02: I I mean, if you would have rolled a Nat 20, would I have made it up?
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_02: We'd have figured it out, right?
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_02: What?
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's your choice, right?
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_01: I mean I know it just like that's how it goes.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_01: So much random shit you had to make up.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_01: And fit into storyline and to a deep storyline.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_07: That's the fun part though, is because we don't know.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_07: What you made up and sure what you didn't is like Ghost Dragon?
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_02: Not in the book.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_02: Zombie Beholder, not in the book.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_07: But the best damn parts though.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_07: Correct.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_07: It was cool stuff.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_02: I will say that like knowing knowing those pieces, right, I feel comfortable now taking this campaign out of the book.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_02: And like the rest is going to be homebrew because I feel like enough of the pieces that I've interjected like landed appropriately and like we're in like fun to play.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_02: I feel like they were enjoyable.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_02: That like, all right, like I have an idea where this is going to go, like what monsters I want to start dropping in, or at least what they're roughly going to look like, that I think will be in good shape.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_02: Sweet.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_04: What would Lulu have done had Zariel broken the sword?
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_04: Like I'm curious like how complex of a character she would have been after that had happened.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_04: Because I know from my point of view, I always felt like she was going to be a double agent and like attack us if Zariel was going to attack.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_02: Zo Lulu, that's a good point, Matt.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_02: But Lulu is truthfully a celestial good aligned creature.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_02: So if Zaria would have rejected redemption, Lulu would have been broken.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_02: Just absolutely crushed.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_02: And wouldn't it turn against you?
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_02: But I'm I'm glad we didn't have to go there because I'm not sure if Lulu would have been mentally capable of helping you defeat Zario.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_02: I don't know if she could turn that far.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_02: She would have known there's no hope.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_02: She would not have helped Zario against you, but I also don't know if she could have fallen back.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_07: W would there be like a like a path where we could have taken where like we still free El Torrel, even though it really wouldn't have been free, got back to the mere material plane and we could have helped her get back to Latander or something?
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_02: Or yeah, I think we I mean, yeah, we would have figured that out.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_02: Because I think she still has yeah, she's gonna have a grieving period, but there's still once she has learned that Zerio can't be redeemed, she would have to move on at some point.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_02: So yes, that would have been different.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_02: She would return to whatever deity they you know followed to serve again, you know, like in her true form.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_02: Now, would she have been restored to her true form if Zarya would have not been redeemed?
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_02: You know, not naturally.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_02: Like it wouldn't have just happened.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_02: It would have taken divine intervention.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_07: But effectively she would have become useless to us because she wouldn't have helped us.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_07: Likely.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_07: Yeah, likely.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_02: It would have been rough.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's super challenging if you would have failed.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_02: Catch.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_02: One fucking roll.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_07: He was all fested between us and utter one.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_07: Yeah, but didn't you get like a 30 on the roll?
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_07: I mean, you didn't.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_02: It was ridiculous.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_02: But the DC was 25.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_08: Woohoo.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_02: The DC if you didn't have Lulu with you, the DC would have been 30.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_01: Which we still would have passed.
- 1:09:17unknown: Yes.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_02: You rolled a 39.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_01: But only only because I had a plus 15.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_01: Or plus yeah, plus 15 to persuasion.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_01: Jeez aloo.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_07: Well, that's okay.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_07: We just flirted with disaster boys.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_07: It's fine.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_07: It's fine.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_07: It wasn't the only time.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_02: And at the end, she gave you the golden ticket or golden feather.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_02: True.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_02: So you got a one-time favorite.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_02: Ari's got it.
- 1:09:41unknown: Yep.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_02: I gotta share some nicknames that I created for your characters.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_02: Uh so first off, Asterisk.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_02: I know as the melee fighter, this makes sense for you, but you were the weapons collector.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_02: And specifically, I want to call out your javelin of lightning, which is activation words were and then secondly, were the dancing silver longsword, and I doubt you remember what its activation phrase was.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_02: Do you remember?
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_02: Uh it was something really it was so great.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_02: Soaring steel, make the cue.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes, yeah.
- 1:10:21unknown: That was it.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, if that would have been used every time.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, if only.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_02: So I got two, and you guys have to help me decide.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_02: So first choice is the ringer, because anytime shit got real, Ari would just blink out of existence into his ring and hide his little ass in the ring.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_02: Or the second option is the greasy salesman for Ari's super stakes mobiles.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_07: I think they're both fitting.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_02: I think the best instance of Ari blinking into the ring was when he blinked into the ring, put the ring on Asterisk's horn, and then Asterisk got hit by the lightning because the ring was on his horn.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_05: Serves you right.
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_05: Well, I'm just trying to help out a friend and carry him along.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_02: Uh Everdash is the indigestion extraordinaire because he killed more things from the inside than anyone else.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_02: Specifically, a ghost dragon via Immovable Rod is one of his favorite weapons of choice.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_02: And then secondly, a snake demon with a katana.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_02: Snake demon almost took him to another realm.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_02: So that one was a little bit iffy.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_02: Uh, I also think Everdash's favorite weapon, well, maybe not weapon, tool, was Ropey.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_02: You were really torn up when you lost Rope.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_02: Rope of Climbing.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_02: Rope of Climbing.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_02: Uh, and for Thorn, I have the Chosen.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_02: And I got a lot of reasons that Thorn is the chosen.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_02: But I think that my favorite reason most of these are supplied by Ross, actually.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_02: But you the entire party was resurrected from via Tyr, which is Thorne's God.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_02: And then when that happened, Thorn was actually marked by that.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_02: He's got scales on his wrist to kind of show that.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_02: Uh, he was blessed with a healing amulet that you guys use throughout the campaign.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_02: You could look at it to get a few hit points back.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_02: Um, Tyr spoke to him.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_02: Uh Avernus is just the beginning.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_02: The path to restore a celestial balance will be long and difficult.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_02: Persevere, Thorn Duskbane.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_02: So that's obviously a future seed.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_02: Uh and in the Opus, the So Opus See Thhlon, the book, holy book.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_02: Um, Thorne read his own name in the chapter titled The Internal Battle, and read about the shield of the heavens.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_02: So I think there are a lot of reasons there that point back to Thorn being Tears Chosen, truthfully, not just the chosen tears chosen.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_07: Also playing the seeds for my own magical items and shit, like Brett was saying.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_07: This is true.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_07: Just level up yourself by at least that one I said I could only use once in my entire life.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_07: I did put that that in there.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and referencing back to a few weeks ago, and as a it's more fun to screw over the DM.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_01: That's that's one way you can screw over the DM.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_07: You know, you think the DM railroads you in stories?
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_07: I flip the tables on Phil.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_07: This is what I'm doing.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_07: Deal with it.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_02: It's not like I have a history of letting you do overpowered things or anything like that.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_02: Long rest visions, alright?
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_02: So let's hit on those next.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_02: So Ari uh when the guys took a long rest, this was early.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_02: I mean, it honestly might have been.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_02: Was this like when you came out of the bathhouse early and took that long rest at the barracks?
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_02: I think it was that.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_01: It was around then.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_01: So first quarter of the campaign, maybe?
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_01: It was early.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_07: I thought it was later because my vision referenced the book getting to candle keep.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_07: So I thought it was after candle keep.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_02: I don't remember where it was, but it had to have been after that.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_02: It was after that, because yours does.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_02: You're right.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_02: Um this had to be before Yostix, though.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_02: So must have been maybe before I don't know, right around the time you would have gone to Avernus.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_02: Maybe once you got to Avernus or something like that, maybe before you left the high hall.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_01: Was it when we woke up from Avern in Avernus?
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_02: It might have been when you um plane shifted.
- 1:14:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that would make sense.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_07: That or when we were in the cemetery or something.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_07: Because Yostix wouldn't have been with us just yet.
- 1:14:26unknown: I don't know.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_07: It was somewhere, it was somewhere in El Torrel.
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_02: And I didn't I didn't have one for Rhea either, but she probably was with you.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_02: Uh Ari, yours was a voice that you have not heard since you first gained your power to call on fire.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_02: Uh the voice said, Pact bound one, it is I, Abidi the Mysterious, and I have a task for you.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_02: And twenty-some odd episodes later, CS sessions later, we still don't know what that task is.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_02: But we'll find out soon enough.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_01: I'll get back to you on that.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_02: It's not a time sensitive task yet, okay?
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_02: Cut Abidi a little slack here.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_07: It's like Eric Ari got a got a voicemail, and he's like, I'll handle that later.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna snooze that reminder.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_02: Uh Asterisk, you saw flashes of color, red, white, blue, black, green.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_02: Uh then you heard the prophecy is absolute.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_02: Uh, and it was a low, raspy voice that you actually could kind of match back to the vo a voice you heard during your trip.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_02: Um, and then you heard Ironhide, my ancient foe, and these like terrible glowing eyes, also that you saw while you were on your trip.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_02: Uh, and then you had a message on a brittle piece of parchment that you saw.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_02: And it says, the truth lies with the and then there were three symbols there.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_02: Um that you guys don't none of you know yet what the symbols mean.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_02: Uh Evernash, yours.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_02: From an ethereal silhouette surrounded by a kaleidoscope of color, you hear a voice, the voice of your savior, so this had to be post-Momira, I guess.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_02: Uh still living, I see.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_02: Looks like I may have a better bargain than I thought.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_02: Perhaps there's a chance.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_02: Uh you notice the darkness starting to swallow up the color.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_02: It is difficult for me to reach you like this, but keep your senses alert for my messages in whatever form they may take.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_02: I look forward to meeting you one day, blood hunter.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_02: The last words you hear before the darkness overshadows the silhouette.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_02: Now for our listeners.
- 1:16:31SPEAKER_02: Everdash technically was cured of this um one of the things that happened from this mummy rot is he was cured by some being.
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_02: We don't know what the being was.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_02: Um, but one of the side effects of being cured by this being was this insatiable thirst to destroy fiends.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_02: Anytime he saw a fiend, he basically had to attack it.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_02: Um he was cured of that at the end of this campaign, of that almost bloodlust for fiends, basically, uh, by Zariel.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_02: That doesn't necessarily mean that he was released from this pact.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna go on record saying that here so that way Matt knows he's not off the hook yet.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_04: Oh, come on, I thought I was off the hook.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_02: And lastly, Thorns, uh, Thorne heard the voice of Tear.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_02: Avernus is just the beginning.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_02: The pathos will restore a celestial balance, will be long and difficult, persevere, Thorn Duskbane.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_02: So similar to what we talked about earlier.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_02: And then there are several memories that kind of flash across your consciousness during this Rast, but the aspect differs slightly from what you actually remember.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_02: So what you're seeing doesn't match up with your memories of this.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_02: It's like you're viewing the scene from another perspective.
- 1:17:48SPEAKER_02: You're young, training in the courtyard at the Temple of Tyr.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_02: Despite your age, you're a quick learner, and you handedly best several trainees many years your senior.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_02: Next vision.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_02: You are on your way to Waterdeep on assignment as a teen.
- 1:18:01SPEAKER_02: You see yourself and a group of young knights huddled around a fire for warmth.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_02: Despite the wind's ferocity, the flame never dies.
- 1:18:08SPEAKER_02: You are aboard the civil serpent, which was your guys' ship that you acquired.
- 1:18:13SPEAKER_02: Um after ridding the bathhouse of cultist of the dead three, you speak the words of your oath of devotion, and you see yourself emboldened by a trickle of tears power.
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_02: And lastly, you see a hooded figure approach the gates of Candle Keep and hand over a tome to gain entrance to the great library.
- 1:18:31SPEAKER_02: So those are my sprinkles of seeding the future.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_07: I I think all of those almost give me goosebumps again, just because it's like I start thinking through like the many ways in which these could be their own thing, or are they all connected, or is there some bigger thing?
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_07: I'm super excited to find out.
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_02: And what was Yostix's secret mission?
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_07: Ooh.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_07: It was probably to bang a demon or a succubine or whatever they are.
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, did you keep did you keep your eyes on him the whole time he was in Avernus?
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_07: Well, I'm sure Astros did after he got felt up, but oh no.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_01: He'll be back.
- 1:19:11SPEAKER_02: It's probably to be the whole party's bicep.
- 1:19:14SPEAKER_02: That was probably his secret mission.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_02: Joke's on you.
- 1:19:17SPEAKER_02: You guys are gonna run as Ego Sticks' sister.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_07: Hey, I mean, it'll be less awkward when we get felt up, at least.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_02: This is your heavy spoiler alert.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_02: Go grab a beer.
- 1:19:31SPEAKER_02: Grab a beer, turn us off because uh we got big spoilers coming up here.
- 1:19:36SPEAKER_02: So uh Russ, I think you posed this question.
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, no.
- 1:19:40SPEAKER_02: It was Matt.
- 1:19:41SPEAKER_02: Matt posed this question uh to Brett just a second ago.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_02: Uh Brett, let's talk about what happened to Ari when Ari grabbed the sword of Zareel.
- 1:19:54SPEAKER_01: Oof.
- 1:19:55SPEAKER_01: So right at the end of the campaign, it was like second to last session.
- 1:20:01SPEAKER_01: Uh we get through the scab and finally get to the sword, and the DM Phil is like, the sword is in front of you.
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_01: Are you gonna grab it?
- 1:20:16SPEAKER_01: Ari at the time is chaotic neutral and just fucking goes for it.
- 1:20:21SPEAKER_01: Just grabs it and pulls it out.
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_01: Not a melee combatant, not anything to do with a sword, but just fucking grabs it and just goes for it.
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_01: And lo and behold, there was a lot of repercussions with that uh seemingly random choice.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_01: Uh so it was like we cut the session there, left on a cliffhanger, and uh Phil sent me this super long section of notes about all the changes to my character that came with pulling the sword.
- 1:20:51SPEAKER_01: Um, and he dropped a little fact that oh, you immediately attune to it and have all these things forced upon you.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_01: So it's like you can have all these new abilities, all these new new great things, like uh being able to fly, which Artie already had, uh but it's expanded, you get true sight, a new some new personality traits.
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_01: Uh, but unfortunately for Ari, one of the big ones was I went from being chaotic neutral to lawful good, right?
- 1:21:27SPEAKER_01: So a very big change to a very kind of random fly by the city appearance character to going from one to the other, uh, and then a bunch of different effects that are tied to actually holding onto the sword, uh, which were super powerful later later on uh in the final session as well.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_02: So I think the interesting part of this too is you know uh Arya no longer has the sword, right?
- 1:21:52SPEAKER_02: Zaria was redeemed, she took the sword back at redemption.
- 1:21:56SPEAKER_02: But some of these changes uh with where our campaign stands today still exist.
- 1:22:03SPEAKER_01: A lot of the big ones to the character class, or not class, but structure and alignment personality traits are changed based on that one quick decision.
- 1:22:16SPEAKER_02: So I this maybe kind of leads into our our next section here a little bit is you know, where where does the campaign going from here?
- 1:22:25SPEAKER_07: So so I want to back up and talk about one thing really quick is like looking back at you taking the sword, I think Thorne character-wise would have been a better fit to take the sword.
- 1:22:40SPEAKER_07: With that said, I'm glad you did it.
- 1:22:43SPEAKER_07: Because especially because everything that happened to you, basically my character already had.
- 1:22:49SPEAKER_07: So would have been very few changes, like story-wise, it wouldn't have been as fun, or there wouldn't have been the repercussions had I taken the sword.
- 1:22:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, your character was basically already on a lot of those same paths, it would just would have been a very strong weapon for you.
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_01: The one I thought would have been interesting would would have been if Astris would have taken it.
- 1:23:09SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 1:23:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, as a fighter, being able to grab that sword and really use the sword and use it to its full possibilities.
- 1:23:18SPEAKER_01: Uh Isaac, what do you think about Astros?
- 1:23:20SPEAKER_05: I was close, I was really close to taking it, but I was like, man, pretty much have every weapon that has ever been presented to us.
- 1:23:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you did already in my inventory.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_05: So I was like, you know, I might pass on this one, but it it would have been an interesting hook for sure.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_02: I think it immediately puts you back into melee battle because now suddenly you can fly, and now everything that's a ranged combat is suddenly in range, you know, so it drastically would have changed your character as well.
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I think uh hey, I Brett and I were messaging back and forth that week kind of about it because some of those changes are so drastic, but it'll be fun to kind of see them play out uh through the rest of the campaign right now.
- 1:24:07SPEAKER_01: Especially as like the sword didn't give me a choice to attune to it.
- 1:24:11SPEAKER_01: It it was forced upon me, all these things were suddenly boom, changed.
- 1:24:17SPEAKER_01: Uh, that for Ari were a little bit maybe heavier than like if like we talked about, like if Thorn were to grab the sword, it maybe would have been a different experience.
- 1:24:27SPEAKER_02: I think one of the key parts there to remember or to kind of think about is uh you know, as a warlock, you have a patron, Ari, and the sword doesn't necessarily align with maybe what your patron has gifted you, whereas Thorne is a follower of Tyr.
- 1:24:44SPEAKER_02: This is like straight out of your book almost, right?
- 1:24:47SPEAKER_02: And I think we could see that play out with those decisions.
- 1:24:52SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 1:24:53SPEAKER_07: It so question for you, Phil.
- 1:24:55SPEAKER_07: Like, had we all signaled interest in taking the sword, how would you have handled that?
- 1:25:03SPEAKER_02: Um, well, typically anytime you guys were all interested in something, you figured it out on your own.
- 1:25:08SPEAKER_02: So I probably wouldn't have had to do anything, most likely.
- 1:25:10SPEAKER_02: Uh, if not, you would have rolled.
- 1:25:13SPEAKER_02: Probably probably persuasion, so Ari would have ended up with it anyway.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_02: But that's probably where it would have gone.
- 1:25:20SPEAKER_01: Did you have a feel for who was gonna take it going into that session?
- 1:25:24SPEAKER_02: I assumed Thorne was gonna take it.
- 1:25:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, I hesitated.
- 1:25:28SPEAKER_07: I thought about saying right away that I was gonna take it, but there was definitely a pause.
- 1:25:33SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:25:33SPEAKER_01: When you asked that, like, what do you do?
- 1:25:36SPEAKER_01: There was a a drawn-out pause and I jumped.
- 1:25:41SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 1:25:41SPEAKER_07: No, no, and I think that fits your character though.
- 1:25:43SPEAKER_07: So I think that was it does.
- 1:25:44SPEAKER_07: That was absolutely perfect.
- 1:25:45SPEAKER_07: It was kind of like when we were in Idol Glenn though, is like when you asked if um who would who would be willing to to go fight to the end or whatever it was, as like immediately I answered that question.
- 1:25:58SPEAKER_07: But I think those were two different questions, like fighting to the death for something you believe in and taking a sword that would ultimately change everything about you.
- 1:26:10SPEAKER_07: Because because let's let's assume at that moment Thorn had z well that zero idea of what the sword was gonna do.
- 1:26:18SPEAKER_07: He's on the path he wants to be on.
- 1:26:20SPEAKER_07: So he doesn't want to change, even though it really wouldn't have changed.
- 1:26:24SPEAKER_07: But the question about fighting to the death against evil or whatever, that was an easy question to answer.
- 1:26:29SPEAKER_07: So that was why I didn't take the sword.
- 1:26:32SPEAKER_07: That was my pause.
- 1:26:33SPEAKER_01: The one interesting one was Matt, what do you think at uh Everdash would have done if he would have grabbed the sword?
- 1:26:41SPEAKER_04: I think he would have been happy with it.
- 1:26:43SPEAKER_04: I think Everdash has always said from the beginning of his campaign that all he wants to do is kill demons.
- 1:26:48SPEAKER_04: And this honestly would have just given him an excuse to be overpowered to do that.
- 1:26:54SPEAKER_04: But he he just didn't want to take the jump.
- 1:26:59SPEAKER_04: He didn't want to be beholden to some deity either.
- 1:27:02SPEAKER_04: And I think that's why he paused.
- 1:27:06SPEAKER_02: I think that's something that you've played out through the entire campaign too really well, Matt, is that Everdash does not want to be restricted or tied down or indebted in essence to a deity, and that you've been faithful through through the entire campaign.
- 1:27:22SPEAKER_02: So it's it'll be fun to see how uh it plays out with your savior, um, who you still owe.
- 1:27:29SPEAKER_02: But all right.
- 1:27:34SPEAKER_02: Well, I think that leads us into talking about, if you guys are okay with it, talking about potentially where uh where we go from here.
- 1:27:42SPEAKER_07: Let's do it.
- 1:27:43SPEAKER_07: I'm excited.
- 1:27:44SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:27:45SPEAKER_02: So I've got some ideas, and basically my thought process is now that we are out of Avernus, we've got some pretty developed characters at this point.
- 1:27:54SPEAKER_02: I think it's time to dive into each of your character arcs almost individually.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_02: So everyone will have a some sort of an arc related to their character.
- 1:28:06SPEAKER_02: That being said, I am interested in your opinions on where you want to go next.
- 1:28:11SPEAKER_02: So let me kind of talk to you about what I'm thinking based on seeds that have been planted, based on fun facts that have been given, all of those things kind of adding together.
- 1:28:21SPEAKER_02: So I've just got you guys listed alphabetically, so I'm going to start with Ari.
- 1:28:25SPEAKER_02: So right now, what I'm thinking for your arc would be most likely it's going to be placed in the elemental planes, um, working to either discover or carry out whatever task it is that Abidi hit you up about very early on in the campaign.
- 1:28:45SPEAKER_01: Ooh, interesting.
- 1:28:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm on board.
- 1:28:50SPEAKER_01: I it's it's very open-ended because there hasn't been a lot of specific details regarding that, but very intriguing.
- 1:29:03SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 1:29:05SPEAKER_02: Uh Asterisk, your arc would take you back to Theros, your home world, uh, to investigate this prophecy that you've seen flashes of and that you got in your trip, um, potentially to maybe decipher what the symbols mean, um, those types of things.
- 1:29:23SPEAKER_02: That's roughly what yours would equate back to.
- 1:29:25SPEAKER_02: Uh maybe figure out who this you know, raspy voice with the glowing eyes is.
- 1:29:31SPEAKER_02: Um Everdash, Ethereal Plane to meet your savior.
- 1:29:40SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 1:29:42SPEAKER_00: You don't get it, you don't get to know anything else.
- 1:29:45SPEAKER_02: Oh Thorne, uh you I'm thinking that you are going to, since you've been marked by Tyr, I think you're going to get a mission from Tyr that you have to carry out.
- 1:30:01SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 1:30:02SPEAKER_02: That's what I see that one headed.
- 1:30:05SPEAKER_02: Uh and then if you guys want to, Yostix is the continuation of his secret mission.
- 1:30:16SPEAKER_02: Oh, Yoostix.
- 1:30:17SPEAKER_02: May or may not be a giant orgy, you'll never know.
- 1:30:20SPEAKER_01: Or maybe we will know.
- 1:30:22SPEAKER_01: Do you want to know?
- 1:30:24SPEAKER_06: Thorne does not want to know.
- 1:30:26SPEAKER_06: Thorne, yeah, no.
- 1:30:27SPEAKER_06: Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.
- 1:30:29SPEAKER_06: Surprise.
- 1:30:31SPEAKER_07: Although I feel like I'm I'm I would love to create an army and a navy to defend Feyrune.
- 1:30:40SPEAKER_02: I thought you were gonna say to play football.
- 1:30:42SPEAKER_07: To play football.
- 1:30:44SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 1:30:45SPEAKER_07: It's exactly what I want.
- 1:30:47SPEAKER_07: I don't, I just feel like that's the seed that I laid to take because when we came out of El Torell, kind of so okay, so we should talk about where we left off really quick.
- 1:30:56SPEAKER_07: Sure.
- 1:30:56SPEAKER_07: So it's like we all went back to Baldur's Gate.
- 1:30:58SPEAKER_07: We left all El Terrell, we went to Baldur's Gate, and we kind of started set, we we met up at the Low Lantern after doing a few things, and then we all started kind of going our separate ways.
- 1:31:08SPEAKER_07: Asterisk, Ari, and Thorne are still in the Low Lantern, not sure where we're headed yet.
- 1:31:14SPEAKER_02: Lower lantern.
- 1:31:15SPEAKER_07: The Lower Lantern, yes.
- 1:31:17SPEAKER_07: Good point.
- 1:31:18SPEAKER_07: Uh, and then Everdash and Yostix have kind of started going off on their own path.
- 1:31:23SPEAKER_07: Where was Everdash headed to again?
- 1:31:25SPEAKER_04: Well, Everdash just said that he w he he needs to eventually go back to the Feywild.
- 1:31:31SPEAKER_04: Like he's he's he knows that he needs to go back and he's recognized that the time is soon.
- 1:31:38SPEAKER_02: So there are three of these paths that will eventually take you to the Feewild, but I can't tell you which.
- 1:31:43SPEAKER_06: Oh I feel like we could take a gas.
- 1:31:49SPEAKER_02: As we get ready to wrap up, your final question for you guys would you recommend this campaign?
- 1:31:54SPEAKER_01: Uh I would say absolutely.
- 1:31:55SPEAKER_01: It was a lot of fun.
- 1:31:56SPEAKER_01: It had a lot of different uh feel different feels between being in the overworld, um, being in Baldur's Gate, going through Candle Keep.
- 1:32:06SPEAKER_01: You hit a lot of the the big memorable areas that you're gonna know and um encounter in in DD.
- 1:32:14SPEAKER_01: But then also getting to go down to an aver into a Vurnace, seeing everything that's happening down there, and there's so much that you get to do and explore inside of a Vernus.
- 1:32:25SPEAKER_07: I I would agree with that.
- 1:32:26SPEAKER_07: I I think the the campaign, like the the story is good from top to bottom, it does a good job like planting the seeds of all the other pieces without feeling like there's only a specific way to go.
- 1:32:37SPEAKER_07: I I do feel like for the most part we had some choice in what we were doing.
- 1:32:41SPEAKER_07: I mean, obviously there were certain paths that we had to go to, and sometimes it was just checking off the boxes.
- 1:32:46SPEAKER_07: But that's I mean, that's any published campaign that's gonna be like that in some way, shape, or form.
- 1:32:52SPEAKER_07: Um, I will say when we first picked this one, I wasn't sure because just having read things about it, I didn't know if I was gonna like it or not.
- 1:32:59SPEAKER_07: Um, but I was pleasantly surprised.
- 1:33:02SPEAKER_07: I I loved this and I would totally recommend for people to play this.
- 1:33:06SPEAKER_02: That's gonna do it for this episode of Bards and Barrels.
- 1:33:09SPEAKER_02: Remember, you can listen to the show everywhere.
