- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome back, everyone, to another episode of Obnoxiously Puzzing Podcast.
- 0:05SPEAKER_01: I can't believe we're still doing this, but go ahead.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Lena's like so against it.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Whatever.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: What if it's like the first episode somebody sees?
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: It's fine.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: It's fine.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: What's going on, Lena?
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: What's going on with you, Henan?
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: Oh my God, you guys, I got laid off.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: I got laid off for my job.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: You're like the most excited person.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: It's not exciting.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: To ever be laid off.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: It's weird.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: I'm fine.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: You know what's funny?
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: I think I've been so happy that a lot of a lot of people who talk to me since yesterday, they're like, are you okay?
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Because like you seem way too happy.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: It's a big deal.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: It is a big deal.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: You know, honestly, it's it's totally fine.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: And I think people think when I say it's totally fine, they don't believe me because they think I'm saying it's totally fine.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: And I'm not sure.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: No, I believe you, but it's just still great.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: So what what was like talk me through it?
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Tell me what I've been I've been where I've been for quite some time, right?
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: So it was like time for a change, and it was one of those situations where like I was like comfortable, I was still doing a great job, you know.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Um, but I don't know.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: It was just kind of, you know, sometimes like some, you know, like it's like when you're in a relationship and nobody wants to end it.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Okay so somebody has to just be like, guys, it's over.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Like this is not healthy for either of us anymore.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: That's literally where I was.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: So you're saying it's a blessing in disguise, kind of.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Kind of.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Like you weren't like upset about it.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: And I actually wanted to talk about this today at the episode because if anybody out there is experiencing this, yeah, I want you to look at the glass half full, as cheesy as that sounds.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Like, look, I fully understand that everybody is in different positions, like whether it's like financially, emotionally, with family, with not with your tribe.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Um, alhamdulillah, like I'm blessed.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Like, I have a really good support system.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: So I think that's why I'm like, okay, it's great.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: It happened on my kids' last day of school.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: So like summer, I'm gonna get to have a summer vacation.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: I know you're excited.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Do you know when the last time I have a summer vacation was?
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: When I was like after after like my senior year of high school.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: It's so like you're actually like you're gonna like look at the bright side.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, look, I'll still look for work.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Um, but at the same time, it's too expensive to just sit at home.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Kind of, but I'll still look for work, but like I just I wanna like do I I just I just I need a moment to just you know exhale.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I need a moment to just exhale.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: It's been go go.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: I'm always like Len's been waiting to exhale for a while.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Literally, literally.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Let me've been waiting to get her groove back.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: You were waiting to use that one too, weren't you?
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: No, but I just needed, I just need a moment to just say, okay, you know what?
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Everything's gonna be fine.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna be good, to just kind of let like go with the flow and let things happen.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: But I wanted to talk about this because I know in the current economy that we're in, in the state the country is currently in, a lot of people are probably in the same boat that I'm in.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, especially in this area with all the government.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: So I just wanted to let everybody know, like, we're gonna be fine.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: Like I know, I know it's easier said than done.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: And I know, you know, if you're out there and you're experiencing this and you've been on the job market for a while and you're struggling, whether it's emotionally, financially, or both, just know like there is an end.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: There is an end to all of this, right?
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: So just try to really um, you know, lean into the little bit of kind of break that you have.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: I think we all freak out because we all have responsibilities.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: And some of us and bills and exactly.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Even if you're look, whether you're a dual income income household, single income household, you're single, you're married, you're divorced, you're a single parent, you know, anything, we all have responsibilities.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: I don't say, oh, you know, if you're married with kids, then you have more responsibilities than a single person.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: You don't.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Everybody has their own.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: A single person, you're you're on your own.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: It's literally just you.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: But I wanted to talk about it so I can just let people know, like, we're gonna be fine, guys.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Like it's gonna be okay.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be just fine.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: It's it's it like it happens.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Take a moment to if you if you're gonna be sad about it, be sad.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: If you're gonna be like me and be excited and be like, whoop-hoo, you know, be excited.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Um, but like it's gonna be okay.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right?
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, inshallah, inshallah.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: So are you in the are you like just taking a break right now?
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Or are you actually like j job hunting already?
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: It's like a little bit of both.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah, it's a little bit of.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, this literally just happened.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: So I I'm still in the moment of let me figure out what I'm gonna do next.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Was I a little bit disappointed?
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: So sad and disappointed are two very different things.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Tears of of sadness, no, yeah, disappointment, absolutely.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Because you're just like, I work with True Mofos for a long time.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: And this is how you do it.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: This is how you do me, right?
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: So there's obviously a little bit of that, but you know, it's it's it's it's cool.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Like it's at the end of the day, that's corporate America, right?
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a business decision, yeah.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: And we're all just products of that.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: And it's funny, I was talking to one of my old coworkers just this morning, and you know, she's like, she's like, I know.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: She's like, sometimes we like sit there and we're like all high and mighty with our corporate like nine to five jobs.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: She's like, we are no better than anybody who works a blue-collar job or works at a drive-thru at McDonald's or whatever.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: We are all dispensable in this cog that is corporate in this machine that is corporate America.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: We are all just replaceable cogs.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: And I was like, you know what, girlfriend, you are right on.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Like, I love that.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's true.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, no one is uh is uh safe from this.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: No one is irreplaceable, yeah, right?
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: They like to remind us quite often that no one is irreplaceable.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: But yeah, that's my life I've taken.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: Okay, all right.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Um, I I can't really like beat that.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: Like, I got nothing.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, I your ankle hurts.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Let's not talk about that.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Lena has decided to go on a health attorney.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Remember, we were talking about that, right?
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Um, so Lena decided to go on this health journey, and I'm really proud of her because she has been working out and she's been eating healthy in the midst of working out.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: So I I'm still eating healthy, yeah.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: But like um, so my knee is messed up.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: Okay, go for it.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: My god, Hana.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Are you okay?
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: There.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: You have a big hair.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: So the knee's hurting, and the knee's hurting because the ankle is the original problem.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: I hate to sound like it makes me sound like an old fart.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm really upset about this.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: No, you're not an old fart, but sometimes, you know, when we don't use things as often as well.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: Here's what happened.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: To be fair to my to me, uh, here's what happened.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: My ankle was the original problem.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Okay, when I was praying, like I I twist, like, so I don't put any pressure on the ankle.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: I would twist my knee in a weird way so I can relieve the pain from the age.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: So you ended up like messing up my knee.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: The knee, it's okay, alhamdulillah.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Like I did x-rays, it's nothing serious, but there is a problem.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: But you probably have some inflammation or something.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: And then um, let me talk about a doctor.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: You probably have some inflammation.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: I did not like that doctor.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: I went to, but like, I have no options.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: He just seems so uninterested.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: He seems so unistrate.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: He's like, uh, okay, yeah, you're fine.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: You don't got anything wrong with your dude.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: You need to find somebody else.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: So I went to the ankle doctor, okay.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: And he has me in a brace and the sleeve.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I'm not wearing a boot.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: I told him.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: I'm like, listen, I'm not doing it.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: And he's like, but you should.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I'm not.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: I'm like, you need to give me an alternative.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: I'm just not.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: I did that once and I'm not doing it again.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: I'm like, if nothing is broken, there is no need for that.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: So he has me in this brace, okay.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: And then he's like, come back in two weeks.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: You just need to rest it.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: And maybe that gets better.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: I'm like, so what about the exercise?
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: He's like, no exercise.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: I'm like, dude, you're doing me dirty.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Like, like, I'm on a roll.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: He's like, you can't.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: He's like, you have to rest your ankle and your knee.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: But see, the here's here's like what I think is so beautiful about this theme.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: We were both forced into a break.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: We were both forced into a kind of a break.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: Lena, when she gets this like thing in her head, like, I need to lose weight, yeah.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: She's gonna be so determined and she's gonna do it.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: And sometimes, like, sometimes you need a break.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: He was like, just lift some weights.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: I'm like, dude, I already do that.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: I'm like, how is that gonna make me like lifting weights builds muscle?
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: It's not gonna make you actually like, you know, jump down.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: It does, it does.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: With my arms?
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: No, come on.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: Anyway, whatever.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: It's just so like upsetting.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: And I'm just like, listen, I'm giving you two weeks.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, figure it out.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: If it's not better, it's not his body to figure it out.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Figure it out.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: I'm like, it's just like, you know, throwing a wrench in my plans here.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Obviously.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: But honestly, Alhamdulillah.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: Like, let me not like these are like stupid like problems that we have.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: Alhamdulillah for everything.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: I'm joking.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: But see, isn't it?
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: But see, think about it like this though.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: We were both forced into a break.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: We were both forced into early retirement.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, what this exactly, what this does for us is it kind of forces you to like slow down and be like, I'm just you know, I'm gonna chill for a minute.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: There's nothing wrong with that.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: There's nothing wrong with saying, I'm going to chill for a minute, I'm gonna be fine, everything's gonna be okay.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: You know what the biggest problem is for me?
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: I think I like the problem is I was telling him, like, I I was doing that to my knee because I refuse to pray on a chair.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I am not at that age.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: You know, like how our parents like sometimes.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but sometimes if you're not feeling well, you shouldn't.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: I know, but he was like, You definitely have to pray on the chair.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: He's like, I hate to break it to you.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: He was like, at least for two weeks.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: He's like, you just can't.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because like you need to rest your knee and you need to rest your ankle.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: Because you're putting pressure on something that doesn't need that kind of pressure.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: I'm like, okay.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Honestly, that's just that was like, oh my God.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: I really think I really think this is why I was so relieved yesterday.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: You know how he's like, you have to do this.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you have to take a break.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: I really feel like that's what happened to me.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: So like you have to take a break.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Because I think if no one forces you to take a break, you won't.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: No.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're you're you're just always on the go.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: I'm always on the go and I'm always wanting to do like a million things, but it's just so welcomed and so nice to sit there and be just and just say, like, okay.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, yeah, yeah, it's good.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: Just say, like Alhamdulillah, inshallah, I'm sure you'll find something.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Honestly, it's the first time in my life, I think.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: So this is not like the first time that like I get laid off from a job.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: Uh like it's it, you know, in in the type of career that I do and the type of work that I do, it's competitive and and you are tied to so many things that things come and go all the time.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Um, but like when this happened to me, and I will say, ooh, when this happened to me in like 2011, okay.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: I was in a place where I was working, was it 2011, 2010, something like that?
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: So a long time ago, you know?
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: I was working in a place and with a group of people that I really absolutely loved, right?
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: And so when the time came for selection, all of those people moved to one place, and then I didn't get the job at the place where everybody was.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: Ah, okay.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: So, but I will tell you, I was so sad about that.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: But then my career took a shift in a different direction that I never expected, and in the best way possible.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: So subhanAllah said, so like there's always you know, I'm always reminded of like wasa and takarahu shayya and wha khaira kum, which means like, you know, don't hate something or don't be sad about something because it it's not khair for you.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: It's not it's not a blessing for you, it's not meant for you.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: So, like, I look at I I really look at things, and I this time around, I was like, I'm not gonna be sad about this.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: I'm not going to be upset by this.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, I had a feeling it was coming.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: Let me not.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: You know, I've been preparing myself emotionally for like a year.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, you kind of saw it because you were telling me you're like, I think it's gonna happen.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: It's gonna happen.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: I told you the night before.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: I was like, hey, by the way, I'm getting laid off tomorrow.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: So it's like I I knew that this was happening, and I think even if I didn't know it was happening, um, but I stopped trying to tie it to something that was my fault.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: No, it's not.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: This is happening because it's my fault.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: No, it's it's not.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and like I said, I think with everything, especially in this area, because we we have a lot of friends who work in government fields and stuff like the government.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's been it has been treacherous since January.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Literally, it has been treacherous waters out there.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: It is unprecedented times.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's it's people are are struggling to find jobs.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Like they're they're especially like in that specific, like, you know, if you're doing government work, then it's really I mean, that spans a lot of different things, but I also think a lot of those, a lot of those folks are in a very different or unique situation.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Um, it then, you know.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, I've been I've been private sector for a long time.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: So I've been private sector probably for about 10 years.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: So it's different.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: Like I knew that look, it is a hustle, it's cutthroat, you've gotta constantly work.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: And so it was just a nice, like I decided this time that I'm just gonna look at it.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Embrace the embrace the break.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, embrace the brace break and look at it differently.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: And that's like I said, that's why I really wanted to talk about this today.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: That sometimes life forces you to do stuff that you may not want to do, but it's probably the best thing for you.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: Like, and it's something like for you, you're like, oh, it's something so small, it's my ankle, right?
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: Or it's my knee.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: But I but think about if you just powered through, powered through and just kept pushing.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: You probably really could hold yourself.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's why that's what my husband was saying.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like you probably could really hurt yourself.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: And it's the same thing for me.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: Like, what if I kept I probably would have never left had I not been said had somebody just told me, like, thanks so much for everything you've done, like, you know, deuces.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: Like, I mean, that's not literally not what they said, but you know, but I probably would have never left.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: And it's not like it was, you know, it's it wasn't terrible, but I wasn't, I was no longer in a place where I was like loving what I did and happy with it.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: I probably wasn't like challenging.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: And yeah, and I like didn't think about it anymore.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, you just like show up, you do, and you go home.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, I will say though, I will, there is one thing I'm gonna miss, and that's the people.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: I work with some really awesome people.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like you can still hang out with them though.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: And that's literally what I told a lot of them yesterday.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: I was like, we're still friends, IRL, right?
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: Like, but uh, but yeah, but other than that, like this time around, I'm just weirdly at peace.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: Alhamdulillah.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: That's good, that's awesome.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I I really think it's because I just decided to- I'm very proud of you because you are a very anxious person, right?
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like when she too, like when you texted me, I'm like, oh my god, I gotta call Hanan right now.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: And you're like, no, no, it's fine, it's fine.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: You're like, and I'm just like, like you, the way you took it was like I was because that's never you.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: You know, my exit interview, I smiled the whole time.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: Not like a crazy person, if you don't kind of like when you were doing my makeup earlier.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: Kind of like, you know, honestly, that was really funny.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: I was doing Lena's makeup like just on the phone, man.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: I was on the phone having a conversation.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: Okay, shout out to Neshua, but um, but it was hilarious because I'm telling Lena, I'm like, you know, I want to tell her smile, but I'm mid-sentence.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: So I go like, right?
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: And I look over and she's come on, it's not that bad.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: I'm like, that is not a smile.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: That is funny.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: Literally, she was that she's just I'm like, that's not a smile.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: That's not what I asked you to do.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: I know, you know, it's still kind of early in the day.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: It's not morning, but it's early in the day for me.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: Not early.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: Even though my best work is done after 6 p.m., right?
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: It's like about to be Salat al-Dhohri.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Is it?
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's about to be.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: Oh, it is, it's well past Salat al-Dhir right now.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: So tell me, what else has been going on?
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: Uh, well, I mean, that's like honestly what's been like kind of consuming my my my week this week.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: But yeah, other than that, like I'm just excited that like summer's here.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Are you doing anything now that you're unemployed?
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: Well, funny enough, my sister and I just booked a vacation like the day before I lost my job.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: Where?
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: Florida.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: It's it's totally honestly, it's great.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: I think it's the first time that I like I'm gonna be on vacation.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: I don't have to actually be on vacation.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: I have to check email.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: I don't have to do anything.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: But what when you're on vacation, you check email?
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: Sometimes depends on like what was happening or whatever.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: But no, man.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: When I'm on vacation, I turn that phone off.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: Don't call me, don't talk to me, don't tell me.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: But honestly, I'm just I'm I'm I'm excited to like like lay low.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's good.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: How long are you guys staying?
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Just a week.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Just the week, yeah.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: Like I think it's like six nights or something.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: Okay, so it's at a beach.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: Uh well, I will tell you all about it when I get back.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: All right, all right, cool.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: All about it when I get back.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: Well, no, your sister always has awesome.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: She, my sister, finds the most unique shit to do.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: It is unbelievable.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: No, no, she's always like, she's on top of that.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: She is.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: She's on top of that.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: And it's funny because she sent me, she's like, what if we do this?
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: I was like, I didn't even know this thing existed.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: Speaking of which, so she's like our mom, right?
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: Like on these vacations.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: She like books everything, she pays for everything, whatever.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: That would be Yeah, she books everything, she pays for everything.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: And so she like paid for everything.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: And so the next day, I was like, Don't worry, I'm still gonna pay you back for the vacation.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: And she goes, she goes, no, just worry about finding a job.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: I was like, well, fine, then I won't pay you back for the vacation.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: So you just took that.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: And she goes, I know where you live.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: No, but she she's she's cool, she means it.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: She's not gonna say something she doesn't mean.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: No, no, but I'm not gonna make her pay for my vacation.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: I told her, I was like, I know I'm an employee, I'm unemployed, not broke.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: So is uh is like the whole family going with you, or is it just you?
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: So it's her family and my family.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's so I think it's gonna be I think it's gonna be really good.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: That's fun.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Is this in July or August?
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Because I need to take vacation to get a finger where actually this is it's it's the week of the 4th of July.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: So oh, okay, going before the fourth, yeah.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: So it's like, yes, it's gonna be hot though.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Who cares?
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: There's sand and I'll take the hot weather anytime.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: You know, I love the beach.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, over the Lena Lena can't go outside.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: She becomes one giant freckle.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: Shut up.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: She does.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: She does.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: She becomes one giant freckle.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: But I've been good with the with the sunblock.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: I've been really like, yeah.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: Every time I go out like walking, and now that I'm not walking anymore, but like every time I do that, yeah.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: I've been really it's good.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: You need to be good with a sunblock.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: You know, you have to like rinse, you'll like wash it with soap and water.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Some people will just like wipe, use makeup remover.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: I'm like, no, no, no.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: You gotta like soap and water, you'd be surprised.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: You would be surprised.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: But yeah.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: Um, anything else that you want to talk about?
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: No, I just wanted to like let everybody know that if you're going through something like this, one, you're not alone.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: You know, whether if you are being forced into doing something in your life, whether it's a break like the two of us, right?
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: Because of a physical situation, because of a life situation.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but you know, like don't look at it as a bad thing.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: Like, like just try to embrace the break and realize that it's happening for a reason, and you know, you're gonna be okay.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: Like everybody's gonna be okay.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: I think so, yeah.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: Inshallah.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, inshallah.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: And you know, it's funny.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: I was I was talking to a friend yesterday, um, and I said, you know, it's I think I I don't think we realize like how blessed we are.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Because I even in the worst of times, um I I'm at least able to like hug my children at night.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm not I'm not worried about like a bomb falling on my head.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Alhamdulillah.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's um and I think about that quite.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: I think I thought literally I was talking to you remember, you know, Jamana.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: We had her on the podcast previously.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: And I told her, I think I think that change shifted the paradigm for a lot of us, the way that we view life.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: We used to stress about these things all the time, but then you see this actively happening, you see an active genocide taking place, and you're like, I'm it makes me so sad, and it also makes me feel so weirdly blessed.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: Um, and it also makes me feel sad.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: But yeah, and I think like I already said sad, but yeah, it's okay, but I think you realize like when when things like this happen to us, you realize in the grand scheme of things, okay, everything with the genocide and all this stuff that's happening, you realize a lot of it.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying everything, but it a lot of the things that we complained about or were worried about really Which is so stupid.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: They're so sensitive.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: So like it kind of puts things in perspective.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: We've talked about this before.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: You know what I saw too that this year that the uh this this week that kind of put like gave me like some hope.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: So I have two friends.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: Um one uh one went to Syria to visit his family.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: And he hasn't been able to do that since you know the the onset of the you know the the like since since 2011, since the onset of the the Syrian, you know, revolution that took place.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: Um it's just and it made me so happy for him, you know, to be able to and and and it's funny the way that he described it.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: He's just like to be able to be in a place that you thought you'd never make it back to remember we were talking about going home, yeah, and the feeling of home, yeah, right?
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: Um, I can't imagine.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: Like I have goosebumps just like thinking about it because I'm like, he, you know, he made it.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: And then I have another friend that's like going back, you know, for like four days.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for like a few days this uh this month.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: So, like for all my Syrian peeps out there, if you can make it back and if you're able to, like I'm really my heart, like is so happy for you.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: With with look, I fully realize that it's like so not perfect, right, in a lot of ways.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: But the concept like home exists and you're able to go.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: And if that's the case, then I'm like super happy for you.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but that's just like again, another thing that I like thought about this week.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, but Inshallah, inshallah, Palestinians will be able to do that.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: I hope so.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: I really hope so.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: But yeah, this week left me feeling like with lots of feelings of both like sadness, yeah.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: Both lots, sadness, joy, a lot of gratitude.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, you all like it, I you don't realize your place in people's lives until something, a big shift happens.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: I had a lot of my old coworkers between yesterday and today call me and just it was such a nice like and reach out, whether it was via text or phone or LinkedIn.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: And I was like, oh my gosh, that's really sweet.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: Like I had no idea that you know they cared that much to say, hey, I loved working with you.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna miss seeing you around.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: It makes me feel so like, you know, appreciated.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: It's it's the right kind of it makes me feel a lot of like gratitude.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right?
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: No, that's important because like, you know, these are the people that you spend a lot of your you know time with.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Some people I'm happy to like never see again.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Did I really have to say that though?
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: After going on this, no, it's fine.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: But you know what?
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: That is some real shit right here.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: But that's that's that that's your truth.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: It's yeah, it's like that's some real, yeah, that's that's some real shit right there.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: But it's the honestly, it's it's like any other place.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: Like you have your good days and you have your bad days.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: All in all, it was a like a I always say it was a tremendous and incredible experience.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: I'm happy to have had it.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: And now I'm happy to go to the pool this summer, go on vacation, and be like 17 again and have a summer vacation.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: 17 is tough.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: Whatever.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: I'm fine.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'm fine.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: I'm fine.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: All right, so that's awesome.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: I feel like I've done a lot of talking.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: You didn't say anything.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, like, this is your thing, this is your day, this is your topic.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: I always wanted you to express yeah, you're happy.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: You make me feel liberated.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: The end of my right, do you feel liberated?
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Dude, this time, like me doing like I'm the one stressing about what not you, because every time I come here, it's Hanan is just like always like, even on the weekends, okay.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: She checks emails and all that stuff.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: And I'm just like, girl, now it's me.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: Not no more.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Now we have to worry about my schedule, not yours.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: We were talking about, hey, what day do you want to film next week?
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: I was like, any day.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Any day.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: No, it's good.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: Alhamdulillah.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: I'm glad I'm like, I wanted you to talk because a lot of people, like you said, are going through something similar.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: That's honestly why I wanted to.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: A lot of people, I think, are also afraid to say, oh my gosh, I I lost my job.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: Well, it has nothing to do with you.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: Like it is a decision, it's not a decision that you made, but a lot of us like have guilt tied to that where we think like, oh, I lost my job because of performance or I did something or whatever.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's just like not even about you.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's not a good thing.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: It's literally about the bottom line for these companies.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: It is a numbers game.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: And like sometimes you're just that number.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: It is your time to be X'd out.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: And it's cool.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: Like, you just take it in stride and like just know that look, as long as the sun like rises in the east and sets in the west, we're gonna be okay.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: Yes, we're gonna be okay.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: We are a lot more privileged than a lot of other people around the world, even with all the craziness happening in the country, which theirs this week has been crazy.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: Topic shift.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: I was talking to a friend who lives in Downey in LA, yeah, and she was saying, she's like, We have identified all of the vehicles that belong to you know what.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: And to that entity.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: And she's like, we are out there, we're warning people, we're telling them, and it's it's it's crazy to me that that in it's crazy that this this this is happening here in this country.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, it's not crazy.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: And ever since the genocide, I don't put anything past anybody or any country or any government.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: I just but it's funny that people who like didn't care about what was happening in Palestine are now are looking at this, and I'm like, it is the same systematic oppression.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: Like it is the same people doing the same oppressing, exactly, you know, maybe different forms.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: I posted about that.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you saw my Instagram about it.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: I mean it's the same system.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: It is, it's the same system, you know.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: That's what we all have to like.
- 24:05SPEAKER_00: But to all the families affected by this, my heart goes out to you.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: You know, it's it's this is it is a rough period, inshaAllah.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: We're gonna get through it.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: InshaAllah ya Rabbu, we're gonna get through this.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: Inshallah.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: You got anything else?
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: You're done?
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: No, I'm done.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm done spreading my joy to everyone.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: My joy and my gratitude.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: Inshallah, until next time.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: Yes.
