- 0:08Speaker 1: Hello, gorgeous, welcome to the Give Them La La Podcast.
- 0:13Speaker 1: We had an intro and there was some technical difficulties
- 0:19Speaker 1: and once we sent them over to our producer, the
- 0:23Speaker 1: file was like nowhere to be heard. So here's the alternative.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I'm literally sitting in Ocean's nursery giving you guys this intro.
- 0:34Speaker 1: We have Jesse Metcalf on the podcast today, and I
- 0:38Speaker 1: cannot be the only person that was obsessed with Desperate Housewives.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I'm sure a lot of you guys were also obsessed,
- 0:47Speaker 1: and you can also stream it now, so I'm sure
- 0:49Speaker 1: that a lot of you, like myself, are going back
- 0:51Speaker 1: and rewatching. It was like every Sunday night was Desperate
- 0:56Speaker 1: Housewives and then Gray's Anatomy. It was just like what
- 0:59Speaker 1: you did on Sunday. So we have him on the
- 1:01Speaker 1: podcast today. We're going to pick his brain. I have
- 1:03Speaker 1: a few questions for him, and we're going to skip
- 1:08Speaker 1: vander Talk today because I slacked. I did not watch
- 1:13Speaker 1: last night's episode. But hopefully next week we can recap
- 1:19Speaker 1: two episodes in one I think that that would be
- 1:22Speaker 1: a lot of fun, and I also really want to
- 1:26Speaker 1: answer your guys' question, so please remember to call in
- 1:30Speaker 1: call into the podcast. That number is eight six six
- 1:35Speaker 1: La La Pod again, eight six six La La Pod.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I always love hearing from you guys, answering whatever questions
- 1:42Speaker 1: you have, and it just makes me feel like we're
- 1:45Speaker 1: in a more intimate setting. The whole reason I started
- 1:48Speaker 1: this podcast was so that we all could feel this
- 1:52Speaker 1: like connection and bond and we could get closer to
- 1:55Speaker 1: each other. So please reach out to me. And without
- 1:59Speaker 1: further ado, we're going to cut to a quick break
- 2:02Speaker 1: and we will be right back with the heart throb
- 2:06Speaker 1: Jesse Metcalf. We are back with our epic guest, mister Metcalf.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Okay, Jesse, that production I am.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Well, we give Before before you came on, we gave
- 2:21Speaker 3: you a very very warm welcome about your career and
- 2:24Speaker 3: how great of a human you are in front of us.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Wow, so you lied, Thank you. I have to all
- 2:31Speaker 2: about appearances in Hollywood.
- 2:33Speaker 1: The number one question I have is do you ever
- 2:36Speaker 1: talk to Eva Longoria?
- 2:38Speaker 3: Well?
- 2:38Speaker 2: I run into Eva from time to time. We follow
- 2:41Speaker 2: each other on social media, but we don't really talk. Okay,
- 2:46Speaker 2: you know she's uh, you know, it's mom life over
- 2:49Speaker 2: there with Eva right now, and she seems like she's
- 2:51Speaker 2: an amazing mom, and I mean, I'm so impressed and
- 2:55Speaker 2: proud of all the things she's done civically, socially, politically.
- 3:00Speaker 2: You know, they say actors shouldn't shouldn't, you know, get
- 3:03Speaker 2: involved with politics, and I tend to believe that what
- 3:08Speaker 2: I'm saying, but you know, I think she's done some
- 3:10Speaker 2: amazing things.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I agree. I think politicians should be just that, not
- 3:16Speaker 1: reality TV stars, not actresses.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Politicians suck.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Yeah, So.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Okay, whatever they want to do, who cares. I don't
- 3:26Speaker 2: listen to a thing. They say, Well, Jesse, do your
- 3:29Speaker 2: own thing, so let me. I'm just I'm just a
- 3:31Speaker 2: pawn in the game.
- 3:33Speaker 3: You too are, Yeah, So let's just back up the
- 3:37Speaker 3: tape a little bit here. Just tell us like early
- 3:39Speaker 3: days of your career, like how you got into you know,
- 3:41Speaker 3: acting and then the big break and okay, because I've
- 3:43Speaker 3: we've worked with you both Lalla and I in movies
- 3:46Speaker 3: and different projects, but just kind of tell fans far
- 3:48Speaker 3: back you want me to go, and just how you
- 3:50Speaker 3: got into acting, how it started, and then how you
- 3:52Speaker 3: got here in your first big break.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Okay, well, I was trying to figure out what I
- 3:55Speaker 2: wanted to do with my life. As a senior in
- 3:57Speaker 2: high school, and I really didn't have a whole lot
- 4:00Speaker 2: of direction, but I loved movies. My father took me
- 4:04Speaker 2: to a lot of movies growing up when I was
- 4:06Speaker 2: very young, a lot of inappropriate movies I shouldn't have
- 4:08Speaker 2: gone to, like, you know, Basic Instinct when I was
- 4:11Speaker 2: like seven years old. Mom wasn't too happy about that one.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Wow, that's a tough one of.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Them, exactly. But I had a passion for movies. I
- 4:20Speaker 2: think I just loved the escapism of it, and you know,
- 4:25Speaker 2: just getting into another world and into the characters, into
- 4:28Speaker 2: the stories. And so I thought, Hey, maybe I could
- 4:31Speaker 2: go to NYU Film School. That shouldn't be too hard
- 4:33Speaker 2: to get into. Wow wow yeah with no with nothing
- 4:38Speaker 2: yeah nothing really good looks on my application other than
- 4:41Speaker 2: my good looks and an essay about The Basketball Diaries,
- 4:45Speaker 2: which was one of my favorite movie.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Phenomenal movie that Lala, do you know who is that? No,
- 4:49Speaker 3: I've never seen you were zero years old when that
- 4:51Speaker 3: movie became.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Marky Mark was in it and that was where that
- 4:55Speaker 2: was when he transitioned from Marky Mark to Mark Wahlberg
- 4:57Speaker 2: and Leo. Oh this guy can act. Leo obviously crushed it,
- 5:01Speaker 2: crushed it. It was amazing, great movie. Now it's a
- 5:03Speaker 2: movie about a New York poet who did a lot
- 5:08Speaker 2: of drugs addiction.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know, a side note and then we'll
- 5:11Speaker 3: come back. But Eric Weinstein, who was he, who's his assistant,
- 5:15Speaker 3: who now is his partner, met Mark on that movie
- 5:18Speaker 3: as his coach for drug coaching, like you know, oh yeah,
- 5:22Speaker 3: for just you know, because he had been a heroin
- 5:25Speaker 3: you know, former addict. So that's what.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I would assume you were a pretty big fan
- 5:28Speaker 2: of that movie as well.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Yeah, that movie was phenomenal.
- 5:31Speaker 2: It really, it really was. So anyway, I managed to
- 5:34Speaker 2: get into NYU by the skin of my teeth, not
- 5:37Speaker 2: into Tish. I got into a new program.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Not into the theater program.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Into the theater program or the film program. The Gallatin
- 5:46Speaker 2: School for people that didn't know what they wanted to
- 5:48Speaker 2: do with their lives.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Yeah, they have a program for people that don't know apparently,
- 5:53Speaker 3: and it was called the Gallatin School.
- 5:56Speaker 2: So I did a half a year, two semesters in
- 5:59Speaker 2: the gallat In School, or I guess a semester. I
- 6:02Speaker 2: did a semester in the gallas In School. I had
- 6:04Speaker 2: good grades and I was able to transfer into TISH,
- 6:09Speaker 2: having already been accepted into NYU Film and Television, not
- 6:15Speaker 2: you know, not not a not a conservatory, not the
- 6:17Speaker 2: acting not an acting program. I absolutely loved it.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I mean it was to send any sort of like
- 6:23Speaker 1: audition tape to get in.
- 6:25Speaker 2: You're supposed to send any you know, films you've done,
- 6:28Speaker 2: short films you've created, which I had none.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I mean, I should be grateful that you got into
- 6:35Speaker 1: any program at all.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Yeah, with your effort.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I mean, if you're telling me that you just submitted
- 6:41Speaker 1: an essay.
- 6:42Speaker 2: On how thirteen eighty on my SAT? What? Yeah, you're
- 6:47Speaker 2: a lot of pot in high school and apparently I
- 6:50Speaker 2: had brain cells despair.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Go figure, Wait a second, you had a thirteen eighty
- 6:54Speaker 3: out of fifteen fifth that'sixteen. You're smart as fun.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I wouldn't know. I never took an SAT. I don't
- 6:59Speaker 1: even know what good score would be.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Yeah, they don't even do SATs anymore. They do the acts, and.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I don't even know what the good score on that
- 7:05Speaker 1: would be.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Immediately, the good news is you did Okay, I will say.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I did a movie with you. What was the name
- 7:14Speaker 1: of it? Again?
- 7:15Speaker 2: I forgot me too, something hard kill.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Hard kill. And I've never seen a script like yours.
- 7:21Speaker 1: There was so much dialogue that you had written as
- 7:24Speaker 1: far as your character break down, and you're the reason
- 7:27Speaker 1: I started doing that actually, like going into that much depth.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Can you let me.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Look at yours? And I was like, what is this?
- 7:34Speaker 1: You know, like I had little notes, but yours was
- 7:36Speaker 1: like what your character for breakfast that morning? And wanted
- 7:42Speaker 1: I'll do that as well.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Awesome, like a lot of backstory. Yeah, Jenny's pretty Jesse's
- 7:51Speaker 3: pretty method. I mean I've been on sets with Jesse.
- 7:53Speaker 3: He's pretty focused.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Now, it can't be too method because then people don't
- 7:56Speaker 2: want to work with it.
- 8:00Speaker 1: So then after, where are you from? Originally?
- 8:02Speaker 2: I grew up in Connecticut, Connecticut?
- 8:04Speaker 1: Okay, so you go to college in New York and
- 8:07Speaker 1: then when do you make your big move to Hollywood?
- 8:09Speaker 2: Okay? Well, while I was in college, I was doing
- 8:11Speaker 2: some male modeling. Oh you're a master male modeling?
- 8:15Speaker 3: Wow? Yeah?
- 8:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you know a little seventeen magazine.
- 8:19Speaker 3: I think we ran into each other in some.
- 8:25Speaker 2: And I thought, hey, well you know, maybe I can
- 8:27Speaker 2: do some commercials, right, So they got me a theatrical agent.
- 8:31Speaker 2: I went on a UPS commercial audition where I dressed
- 8:35Speaker 2: up like a UPS delivery man, but I wasn't playing
- 8:39Speaker 2: a UPS delivery man when I got there. I was
- 8:41Speaker 2: just playing someone who received a package, so that totally
- 8:44Speaker 2: didn't work. And then they sent me out on an
- 8:46Speaker 2: open casting call for the infamous daytime television show Passions,
- 8:52Speaker 2: which I booked.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Wow.
- 8:54Speaker 2: So after my junior year in college, did three years
- 8:58Speaker 2: you know, ninety something thousand dollars at that time, and
- 9:01Speaker 2: I didn't even graduate. I dropped out, came to Los Angeles,
- 9:04Speaker 2: and I've been acting ever since.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Wow. That's a great story.
- 9:08Speaker 1: So then when did when did my most favorite show
- 9:12Speaker 1: ever that I grew up watching and I thought you
- 9:14Speaker 1: were the hottest thing ever. I think I was in
- 9:16Speaker 1: the seventh grade. Oh wow, Desperate Housewives came out?
- 9:20Speaker 2: Okay, Well I did five years on Passions on daytime. Okay,
- 9:24Speaker 2: great training ground.
- 9:25Speaker 3: How many episodes this season would you do? Is it
- 9:27Speaker 3: like like fifty six? Is it like every day?
- 9:29Speaker 2: Like? So five episodes a week?
- 9:31Speaker 3: Oh my god, that's that's like fides.
- 9:34Speaker 2: So it was great training for memorying line memorizing lines,
- 9:37Speaker 2: but you you would pick up a lot of bad habits.
- 9:39Speaker 2: You know, because you had to memorize so quickly that
- 9:43Speaker 2: it wouldn't lend itself to you know, developing your craft, right,
- 9:46Speaker 2: I don't think. But once I ultimately decided to make
- 9:50Speaker 2: the jump and see if I could get something better,
- 9:52Speaker 2: get on the prime time. You know, there was a
- 9:55Speaker 2: lot of a lot of naysayers. A lot of people
- 9:57Speaker 2: I worked with were like, what are you going to do?
- 9:59Speaker 2: And I was like, you know, honestly, I don't care
- 10:01Speaker 2: if I'm pumping gas next week. I need to do
- 10:03Speaker 2: something different than this. So you left the show, yeah,
- 10:06Speaker 2: and it just kind of run its course. And then
- 10:08Speaker 2: I went through the pass.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Is like a soap opera?
- 10:10Speaker 3: Yes, okay, yeah, yeah it is?
- 10:14Speaker 1: And you were just over it, I.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Mean, long run.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I had aspirations I did. I did a whole pilot season,
- 10:23Speaker 2: my very first full pilot season. It was coming towards
- 10:26Speaker 2: the end of pilot season and I hadn't gotten anything,
- 10:30Speaker 2: you know, so I was pretty stressed.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I was you know, where were you living at this point?
- 10:34Speaker 1: Do you have one of those stories where it's like
- 10:35Speaker 1: you lived in a shithole, you were on someone's house.
- 10:37Speaker 2: No, no, no, this point, I actually owned my first property.
- 10:41Speaker 2: I owned a condo in West Hollywood. It was like
- 10:44Speaker 2: it was like Melrose Place in there.
- 10:46Speaker 3: You know.
- 10:46Speaker 2: It was like it faced into the pool and everyone's apartments,
- 10:49Speaker 2: you know, were around the pool. There were some unsavory
- 10:52Speaker 2: characters that lived there. H So, you know, that was
- 10:55Speaker 2: a good time. It was a good period in my life.
- 10:58Speaker 2: And I I had two test deals on the table
- 11:01Speaker 2: by the end of this pilot season. One was for
- 11:04Speaker 2: Veronica Mars and one was for this unknown show that
- 11:10Speaker 2: really not many people knew anything much about called Desperate Housewives.
- 11:14Speaker 2: And the Desperate Housewives deal was on the table, and
- 11:18Speaker 2: the Veronica Mars thing was like still in negotiation. So
- 11:21Speaker 2: I went for the Desperate Housewives and I ended up
- 11:25Speaker 2: booking it. And it was actually a recast. You know,
- 11:27Speaker 2: there was another actor playing the gardener, but they didn't
- 11:31Speaker 2: like him opposite Eva. They didn't think that they had chemistry,
- 11:34Speaker 2: and they recast it after they shot the pilot. Wow,
- 11:38Speaker 2: how many we had some we had good chemistry.
- 11:43Speaker 1: And played a high school student.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Right, Oh my god, Yes, where did you guys film
- 11:49Speaker 2: we filmed that universal?
- 11:51Speaker 3: Oh wow?
- 11:51Speaker 2: Yeah, so it was really cool. We had a whole block,
- 11:55Speaker 2: a whole neighborhood, like like set on the lot, whole
- 11:58Speaker 2: set ont It was very very cool. It's very cool.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Did you get to see all the tram and the visitor.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Yeah, the trams would always gone by and wave.
- 12:06Speaker 1: They were just so happy to be on with STI
- 12:08Speaker 1: Lane exactly.
- 12:09Speaker 3: Is that what it's called?
- 12:11Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I know a lot of plastic flowers and
- 12:14Speaker 2: you know, I mean.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yes, it was like Stepford Wives.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Yeah and then so yeah, I was totally surprised at
- 12:21Speaker 2: the success of that show. I didn't I didn't anticipate
- 12:24Speaker 2: that at all at all.
- 12:26Speaker 1: No, I mean, how could you you like took a
- 12:28Speaker 1: leap of faith by leaving that show? Passions right?
- 12:31Speaker 3: That still long?
- 12:32Speaker 1: No, when did it end after you?
- 12:35Speaker 3: It has?
- 12:35Speaker 2: It has, it's gone. It went for quite a few
- 12:38Speaker 2: years after I left. But it has a cult following,
- 12:40Speaker 2: does it. I mean people were huge fans of that show.
- 12:43Speaker 2: I got a supernatural storyline. It was out there.
- 12:48Speaker 1: So it wasn't like Days of Our Lives where people
- 12:51Speaker 1: were being possessed by devils.
- 12:54Speaker 2: No, it was actually my my girlfriend was possessed on
- 12:57Speaker 2: the show, and I went to Hell to save her. Yeah,
- 13:04Speaker 2: And I was like I was battling demons.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Hell yeah, Jesse, I would love to see that conversation
- 13:10Speaker 3: between you and the director having these deep moments.
- 13:15Speaker 1: What is it like meeting with a director on a soap?
- 13:17Speaker 1: I mean, I know what it's like meeting with a
- 13:19Speaker 1: director on a film. If you're shooting five days a week.
- 13:23Speaker 2: And there's not a lot of talk about performance. It's
- 13:28Speaker 2: like if you if you get the words out of
- 13:30Speaker 2: your mouth and they're intelligible, then they're moving on.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Wow.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Because you do so much material each day, there's not
- 13:38Speaker 2: a yeah, there's episode a day right around full episode.
- 13:42Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 13:42Speaker 2: How hour long episode.
- 13:44Speaker 3: I can't even imagine. That's nuts, dude.
- 13:49Speaker 1: I think I can't memorize that. Like, how much dialogue
- 13:52Speaker 1: do you think you had to memorize daily?
- 13:54Speaker 2: Thirty pages? Twenty to thirty pages? If you were a
- 13:58Speaker 2: main character and had, you know, a big.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Storyline, you must have been fried by the.
- 14:02Speaker 2: End of Fried. But I had a young brain.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Hello were you when you were doing this?
- 14:07Speaker 2: My twenties? My early twenties?
- 14:08Speaker 1: Early?
- 14:09Speaker 3: Okay? But I have a question.
- 14:10Speaker 2: You're a sharp then, yeah, exactly. You get a lot
- 14:12Speaker 2: dollars and get older. I need my Ginko Beloba. Probably
- 14:17Speaker 2: don't know what that is. It was the thing. It
- 14:19Speaker 2: was a thing that always advertised on the price is right,
- 14:22Speaker 2: and it's supposed to, like, you know, help your brain,
- 14:24Speaker 2: supposed to help your memory. Your older listeners, which I'm
- 14:29Speaker 2: sure you have a few, Well, I will understand.
- 14:32Speaker 1: That some that are in their fifties. Yeah, sure, perfect
- 14:35Speaker 1: sold are your forty something?
- 14:37Speaker 3: Let's not go there.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I think people should wear their age with pride.
- 14:41Speaker 2: I do wear mine with pride. On forty two years young,
- 14:44Speaker 2: about to turn forty three in December.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Good for you had a good head of hair on you.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Thank you, You're welcome. You're like, is she about that?
- 14:51Speaker 2: There's nothing money can't buy?
- 14:57Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. We're going to cut to a short
- 15:00Speaker 1: and we will be right back with Jesse Metcalf. All right,
- 15:05Speaker 1: we are back with Jesse Metcalf, and we're talking about
- 15:08Speaker 1: all things Jesse Metcalf, from his great hair to his career.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I found out you did two movies with randall back
- 15:19Speaker 1: to back. I had no idea. What are they called.
- 15:21Speaker 2: They're called Fortress, Fortress, Fortress, b dubs Bruce Willis Bruce
- 15:27Speaker 2: ye exactly. They're really fun movies though they're like the
- 15:31Speaker 2: Indiana Jones kind of type movies. They're a little little
- 15:34Speaker 2: little tongue in cheek and they have a little bit
- 15:36Speaker 2: of everything. You know. They have a little comedy, they
- 15:38Speaker 2: have a little romance, and they have a lot of action.
- 15:40Speaker 2: They're pretty cool, you know, they're kind they're kind of
- 15:42Speaker 2: they're kind of different. And apparently from both of our
- 15:45Speaker 2: directors of one and two, I'm hearing that they came
- 15:48Speaker 2: out quite well good.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I know the one that most of the
- 15:54Speaker 1: movies that Randall's made with Bruce Willis have always topped
- 15:58Speaker 1: in either Netflix or on demand pretty high. Yeah, so
- 16:03Speaker 1: is Fortress out yet?
- 16:04Speaker 2: Not yet? I think the first one's coming out in December?
- 16:07Speaker 3: Am I right?
- 16:08Speaker 1: Oh? Around Christmas time? Christmas?
- 16:11Speaker 2: Really a Christmas Bruce Willis movie. You know how people
- 16:14Speaker 2: like to say that Diehards a Christmas movie? You ever
- 16:17Speaker 2: heard that?
- 16:17Speaker 1: No?
- 16:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Like, what's your favorite Christmas movie? Die Hard? Die Hard?
- 16:21Speaker 1: Why? Because it came out around Christmas time?
- 16:23Speaker 2: Because the story takes place during Christmas.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I'm going to be honest, never seen it.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a classic.
- 16:30Speaker 1: There's a lot of classics that I haven't seen. Apparently
- 16:32Speaker 1: the other one, what is it? Basketball? Diaries that we
- 16:34Speaker 1: just spoke about. Yes, all right, I did get who
- 16:37Speaker 1: plays your love interest in Fortress? Or is does?
- 16:41Speaker 2: Is it someone that I had a love interest? Kelly?
- 16:44Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Kelly was great.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Yeah, an old friend of Randall's and she's amazing in
- 16:49Speaker 2: the movie.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Oh yeah, very nice. Where did you shoot this? These movies?
- 16:53Speaker 3: Puerto Rico?
- 16:57Speaker 2: It's becoming a very popular place to shoot.
- 17:01Speaker 3: It is it is. It is so busy now that
- 17:05Speaker 3: I can't even get movies in there, Like we were
- 17:07Speaker 3: just shot in Alabama because we can't, like, we can't
- 17:09Speaker 3: get movies into Puerto Rico. So my next movie in
- 17:11Speaker 3: Porto Rico is not until March because it's it's too busy. Wow. Yeah,
- 17:15Speaker 3: we started that. We started that that.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Hole, which I'm sure is great for the economy.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Oh they're so busy. I mean it's but it's great
- 17:22Speaker 3: for the whole. Yes, it's great for everything. But I
- 17:25Speaker 3: love Puerto rican I mean it's a great place to
- 17:26Speaker 3: make movies. It's just you know, there's only so many
- 17:28Speaker 3: crew there, so whoever gets in, you know, kind of
- 17:31Speaker 3: they can only handle so much.
- 17:32Speaker 1: But do you think as they start filming more movies
- 17:34Speaker 1: there that they'll more people will move there as far
- 17:38Speaker 1: as production goes, so that they're.
- 17:40Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know about that, because.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Every time I've filmed a movie there, it's kind of
- 17:45Speaker 1: a shit show.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Well, you know, I actually, I actually was impressed by
- 17:52Speaker 2: the Puerto Rican Cruise. I thought I thought they were
- 17:54Speaker 2: really good.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree that they.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Weren't hard workers. They're incredibly like everyone that work is
- 18:01Speaker 1: hard working, just on most movies.
- 18:02Speaker 2: That I not necessarily a lot of experience, but I'm right.
- 18:05Speaker 1: And I'm a virgo, so I like things to be
- 18:07Speaker 1: very timely and organized.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, that's I like that as well. You know,
- 18:13Speaker 2: as an actor that's been in the industry for twenty
- 18:15Speaker 2: two years.
- 18:16Speaker 3: I'll say on behalf of recall say that the crews
- 18:18Speaker 3: are very experienced. They're limited though there's only so many
- 18:21Speaker 3: of them, so once our movie starts, if you come
- 18:24Speaker 3: in after the fact, you kind of have to bring
- 18:26Speaker 3: a lot of people in. So just because there's not enough.
- 18:29Speaker 1: It was less about the crew and more about maybe
- 18:33Speaker 1: the director or other people.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Hold on, oh that was we don't drop the tea,
- 18:38Speaker 3: but I think she spilled the tea or he dropped
- 18:40Speaker 3: it or something. Director you felt you didn't have the
- 18:44Speaker 3: connection with Yeah, movie.
- 18:47Speaker 2: That can happen.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Yeah, now you tell me we're working on pages you
- 18:52Speaker 1: know why through Z And then you come in and
- 18:57Speaker 1: you're like, no, no, I told you A and be
- 19:00Speaker 1: today and it's like you're fucking moron.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Okay, okay, and movie.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Jesse, would you like to share your uh stories with
- 19:13Speaker 3: about some of your directors?
- 19:15Speaker 2: Well, I think you know when you're talking about the
- 19:18Speaker 2: top of the food chain, you know, and on a film,
- 19:21Speaker 2: you know, a director really is the captain of the ship,
- 19:24Speaker 2: you know, and he likes to I would generally generally
- 19:27Speaker 2: maintain that persona.
- 19:29Speaker 3: I want to make it clear I didn't direct either
- 19:31Speaker 3: of your movies.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Sometimes sometimes you have to be sensitive to.
- 19:36Speaker 3: That, you know.
- 19:37Speaker 1: See, I feel as the actor someone they need to
- 19:40Speaker 1: be sensitive to me.
- 19:42Speaker 3: You will know.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Yeah, everyone has a perspective.
- 19:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna switch subjects in about a second.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I just want to say, Jesse, during your movie with
- 19:54Speaker 3: your sensitivity to directors, I did receive a lot of
- 19:57Speaker 3: calls from you on one particular film.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Uh, but that's come full circle.
- 20:03Speaker 3: No, you guys wonderfully. No, you guys made up and
- 20:06Speaker 3: I think that's amazing. I also think sometimes, like lawa said,
- 20:09Speaker 3: circumstance and just it might be that film or whatever
- 20:12Speaker 3: things happen.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I know it's very hot, very hot and humid
- 20:17Speaker 2: in Puerto Rico. Tensions can run high. But if you're
- 20:20Speaker 2: passionate about what you're doing and you bring that passion
- 20:23Speaker 2: to the project, sometimes it can it can get a
- 20:25Speaker 2: little fiery on set.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:27Speaker 2: You know, it's important to be able to work a
- 20:28Speaker 2: lot of egos on a side. It's important to be
- 20:30Speaker 2: able to work through these things on a set because
- 20:32Speaker 2: at the end of the day, we're a team and
- 20:34Speaker 2: it's a collaborative art form. Yes, so we can't forget that.
- 20:38Speaker 1: No, I fully agree. And at the end of the day,
- 20:40Speaker 1: everyone's intent is to do the same thing, which is
- 20:43Speaker 1: create a great film. So I respect that. I actually
- 20:46Speaker 1: remember when you were going toes with whoever you were
- 20:49Speaker 1: doing toes with, going everyone to calm down.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I used to say to Law when I
- 20:54Speaker 3: was getting those calls, I was like, dude, what doing
- 20:57Speaker 3: She's like, everyone just needs to settle down in Porto Rico.
- 21:00Speaker 3: But just tell us because you don't you know, in
- 21:04Speaker 3: terms of like what is the perfect project that you'd
- 21:06Speaker 3: like to see yourself do over the next few years,
- 21:08Speaker 3: Like what, what director? What kind of genre? Is there
- 21:11Speaker 3: anything you want to challenge yourself with or is it.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Just okay, my my favorite genre is gangster films. Really yeah,
- 21:18Speaker 2: I would love to do, you know, a mob movie
- 21:22Speaker 2: where I was maybe the black sheep of an Italian
- 21:25Speaker 2: mafia family that had a drug problem and maybe a
- 21:31Speaker 2: gambling problem. Because of my gambling problem, I get in
- 21:34Speaker 2: debt to a rival family and in order to you know,
- 21:39Speaker 2: not get killed, I have to inform on my own family. Wow, yeah,
- 21:46Speaker 2: I just care.
- 21:46Speaker 3: I just came up with that's that's a great that's
- 21:48Speaker 3: a great develop that. Yeah, we should. I actually like
- 21:50Speaker 3: it all right. By the way, if anybody tries to
- 21:53Speaker 3: steal that Jesse did, we're copywriting it right now.
- 21:56Speaker 2: We have it, we have it on record. Okay, I'll find.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Yeah, No, I like that. That's interesting. It sounds like
- 22:03Speaker 3: a little like Godfather. But we'll we'll modify it to
- 22:06Speaker 3: contemporary times for sure. Okay, tell us the best the
- 22:12Speaker 3: most exciting moment of Desert Housewives. That's what I want
- 22:14Speaker 3: to steel, Like, what was the best episode or the best.
- 22:18Speaker 2: The most exciting moment for me was winning a SAG Award.
- 22:22Speaker 3: That's right, that's huge.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Ensemble comedy cast. So that was an unbelievable that the moment,
- 22:30Speaker 2: you know, we're all up on stage at the SAG Awards.
- 22:33Speaker 3: That's big.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it was really awesome.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Where do you keep your SAG Award right now?
- 22:37Speaker 2: Where is that tiward on the back of the toilet
- 22:41Speaker 2: in the guest room? Why no, I'm just kidding.
- 22:47Speaker 3: I was going to living obviously, I.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Was going to say that needs to be removed and
- 22:53Speaker 1: placed out.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Can I tell you a funny story about the SAG Awards?
- 22:59Speaker 3: And then I've said on the podcast, I'm gonna say
- 23:01Speaker 3: real quick and in a cliff dal version, Lala and
- 23:03Speaker 3: I went to the Syhorts for the Irishman. I wanted
- 23:05Speaker 3: to say hello to Meryl Streep. Meryl Streep was sitting
- 23:07Speaker 3: at the table next to us. As she got up
- 23:09Speaker 3: and started moving, I stood up. It's the only person I,
- 23:11Speaker 3: you know, fangirled about.
- 23:13Speaker 1: She couldn't get away from Randam fast enough.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Okay, they literally, no, she's don't. That's not what she said.
- 23:19Speaker 3: She said, can you give me one second right back?
- 23:23Speaker 1: Yeah, And I never came back and then proceeded when
- 23:28Speaker 1: she came back to instead of take that route, go.
- 23:30Speaker 4: All the way around to the other around the table
- 23:33Speaker 4: to dodge me. And but here is the kicker that
- 23:36Speaker 4: I have to live with this to this day. Fast
- 23:39Speaker 4: forward the entire night.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Every time they do a shot of Meryl Streep and
- 23:44Speaker 3: Reese witherspent the table next to us, who is in
- 23:47Speaker 3: the eye line, La La Kent. So so all of
- 23:50Speaker 3: the photos are Meryl Streep and Lala Kent without Lala
- 23:53Speaker 3: Ken ever asking for a photo, and I got I
- 23:56Speaker 3: got dissed.
- 23:56Speaker 1: I don't care about famous people that much.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Neither do I. But I mean, if it's a it's
- 24:02Speaker 2: an actor that I really admire. I think it's cool
- 24:05Speaker 2: to be able to meet the person. But I'm not
- 24:07Speaker 2: going to be like falling all over myself.
- 24:08Speaker 1: And I'm definitely not asking for a picture either, Like
- 24:10Speaker 1: what am I going to do with it?
- 24:11Speaker 2: Same anyone for a picture of my.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Wife, Well, I'll take a picture with you.
- 24:17Speaker 2: I have too many pictures with you, that's true, But.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I honestly no. But you know, Meryl Streep is just
- 24:23Speaker 3: one of those actors that I looked up to since
- 24:25Speaker 3: I was a kid and she's the greatest ever. So
- 24:26Speaker 3: it was like this weird moment that she was walking
- 24:28Speaker 3: and I said, I got to do it, but it
- 24:30Speaker 3: did work out, so I'm.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Not gonna I'll be I'll be right back.
- 24:34Speaker 3: And by the way, and by the way, she thanks law,
- 24:37Speaker 3: thanks for that. And by the way, I asked law,
- 24:39Speaker 3: I said, no, she was being nice. She wanted to
- 24:41Speaker 3: go talk to Marty and then she's going to come back.
- 24:43Speaker 3: And she says she ain't coming back and that like that.
- 24:46Speaker 1: That the waste is called avoiding you like you're the plague.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Thank you?
- 24:53Speaker 2: You know what?
- 24:53Speaker 1: Man?
- 24:54Speaker 3: You were there?
- 24:55Speaker 2: I was you were there.
- 24:56Speaker 3: I was a table over. That is I was a
- 24:58Speaker 3: table over.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Even know and it looked like I was there so
- 25:01Speaker 1: low kicking it by Meryl Streep.
- 25:06Speaker 3: I can't believe I didn't get a shot. She gets
- 25:08Speaker 3: all these shots. All I wanted was a picture. I
- 25:10Speaker 3: could have taken the picture off the off the screen
- 25:13Speaker 3: and then blown it up and put it in my office.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Too funny.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Well, this has been a fun podcast, Yes, yes it has.
- 25:20Speaker 1: I can't wait to see Fortress.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Never a dull moment with you two.
- 25:28Speaker 1: We try to keep it fun and keep it classy.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Keep it that way. I think we kept it pretty classy.
- 25:34Speaker 2: I think, you know, maybe you know a couple of
- 25:36Speaker 2: color comments from you, La love, but I mean, you know,
- 25:39Speaker 2: got to be you.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I will never deny them.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Keep it real before classy, keep them authentic and classy,
- 25:49Speaker 2: you know, because there's not enough authentic people out here.
- 25:51Speaker 1: No, there's not.
- 25:52Speaker 2: There's that, Holly. Would you know what I.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Love about podcasts with friends? It's fun, for sure, it's
- 25:59Speaker 3: really on. Jesse. I want to tell you something. You're
- 26:02Speaker 3: a good friend to me. You're a good friend to us,
- 26:04Speaker 3: and I want to thank you. And you're incredible actor,
- 26:06Speaker 3: and we thank you for having me for all being
