Latest / Dear Chelsea / Minisode: Post-Election Resources + Activation
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi, Catherine, Hello Chelsea.
- 0:04Speaker 2: This is our post election minisode. Minisode.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Yeah, so we wanted to gather some resources for everybody
- 0:12Speaker 1: to make sure that the people who want to get
- 0:15Speaker 1: involved and activate are doing something. There was like eleven
- 0:19Speaker 1: million people that didn't vote this year compared to Biden,
- 0:22Speaker 1: So I think the popular vote ended up at eighty
- 0:24Speaker 1: one million for Biden and around seventy million for Kamala,
- 0:27Speaker 1: and then Trump got seventy five million, which is only
- 0:31Speaker 1: one million more than he got last time he ran.
- 0:35Speaker 1: So the comfort in that is that it's not like
- 0:38Speaker 1: he's gaining an audience. The Left has lost their audience
- 0:42Speaker 1: because of Gaza and Israel and a bunch of people
- 0:46Speaker 1: that didn't want to vote because of that, which I
- 0:49Speaker 1: will never understand, because if anyone's going to go after
- 0:53Speaker 1: Israel in a more aggressive way, it is Trump. At
- 0:55Speaker 1: least Kamala would have pressured Netnya, who first cease fire
- 0:58Speaker 1: and at this point is to blame for this ongoing
- 1:03Speaker 1: pulverization of Gaza. But anyway, that should be some comfort
- 1:08Speaker 1: knowing that he didn't gain so many more followers. I
- 1:11Speaker 1: don't believe every Trump voter is a racist and a bigot.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I just believe that people are really uninformed in this country,
- 1:18Speaker 1: and that's what Trump's administration wants is for people to
- 1:20Speaker 1: get more uninformed, and we're gonna make sure we get
- 1:25Speaker 1: more informed. And one of the things I just wanted
- 1:27Speaker 1: to touch upon is like I read this book about
- 1:29Speaker 1: economics when I saw this economist speak at one of
- 1:32Speaker 1: these like getaways.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Like this was years ago retreat.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Yeah, one of these like Google retreats or something that
- 1:37Speaker 1: I went to. And the economy that we're experiencing now
- 1:42Speaker 1: is not because of Biden. It's because of fucking Donald Trump.
- 1:45Speaker 1: That every economic policy, the major economic policy, takes four
- 1:50Speaker 1: to six years to actually show up in society.
- 1:52Speaker 2: It doesn't.
- 1:53Speaker 1: You don't just make a change in a policy and
- 1:55Speaker 1: it affects everybody. Inflation is not a result of Biden
- 1:59Speaker 1: being pre Inflation is a result of COVID happening in
- 2:02Speaker 1: twenty twenty and all of the measures we had to
- 2:05Speaker 1: take to make sure people were stabilized after COVID. That's
- 2:08Speaker 1: why our economy is in the whole. One of the reasons.
- 2:11Speaker 1: The other ones are wars everywhere, and yes, we do
- 2:15Speaker 1: support wars in other countries because we're supposed to be
- 2:18Speaker 1: a democracy, and we're supposed to be helping other places
- 2:20Speaker 1: remain democratic. So that's why our economics are the way
- 2:25Speaker 1: they are. Trump is going to walk in now where
- 2:27Speaker 1: the economy is going to boon a little, and that's
- 2:29Speaker 1: because of what Biden did to stabilize our economy, which
- 2:32Speaker 1: he gets absolutely no credit for. So and then you're
- 2:36Speaker 1: going to see all of the policies that Trump enacted.
- 2:38Speaker 2: But I'm not.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I don't want to be lecturing my audience because I
- 2:43Speaker 1: don't think Mandy Trump supporters are listening.
- 2:45Speaker 2: That's probably true, And if you are.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I'd love to understand where you're coming from. I really would,
- 2:53Speaker 1: because your vote is for the collective, not for yourself,
- 2:57Speaker 1: I think. But I know I come from a place
- 2:59Speaker 1: of privilege and maybe you think I could afford that luxury,
- 3:02Speaker 1: but I'm always voting for the sake of others and
- 3:04Speaker 1: marginalized communities. That is the first thing I think of, Yeah,
- 3:08Speaker 1: not my pocketbook.
- 3:10Speaker 3: While should we provide some resources.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Yes, let's provide some resources.
- 3:14Speaker 3: So I feel like for those that have money, give money.
- 3:17Speaker 3: If you have time, give time. I think this is
- 3:20Speaker 3: you know, we took our week to wallow and this
- 3:22Speaker 3: is time to get involved with an organization that you
- 3:25Speaker 3: feel passionately about.
- 3:27Speaker 2: And I think bringing.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Back how pissed off we all were in twenty sixteen
- 3:31Speaker 3: is going to be a real big theme for the
- 3:33Speaker 3: next four years. We were all in the streets, we
- 3:35Speaker 3: were active in our communities, and you know, we had
- 3:37Speaker 3: four years to sort of chill out a little bit,
- 3:39Speaker 3: and now we get actionable again.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Take Now we take action again. Okay.
- 3:43Speaker 1: So some of these these are all LGBTQ plus organizations
- 3:47Speaker 1: that you can support today. You can join, to volunteer,
- 3:51Speaker 1: you can you can donate whatever you feel comfortable doing.
- 3:54Speaker 2: There's the Trevor Project.
- 3:56Speaker 1: There's g l SCN lesson that creating safe and inclusive
- 4:01Speaker 1: schools for LGBTQ plus students, and there's Alambda Legal, which
- 4:06Speaker 1: is Lambda Legal. Then there's the Campaign for Southern Equality CSE,
- 4:13Speaker 1: which expands legal protections and healthcare access for LGBTQ people
- 4:17Speaker 1: in the South. There is the Phoenix Transition Program, which
- 4:21Speaker 1: provides support across the country for distributing gender affirming clothing
- 4:26Speaker 1: and developing crisis funds. And then there's the trans Housing Initiative,
- 4:30Speaker 1: which is THCHI STL addressing housing inequality for trans people
- 4:36Speaker 1: in Saint Louis through training and financial literacy support. And
- 4:41Speaker 1: then there is Parent Families and Friends of Lesbian and
- 4:44Speaker 1: gaysp FLAG support, education and advocacy for LGBTQ plus people
- 4:50Speaker 1: and their families.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Yeah, that's fantastic, and that's all places that you can
- 4:54Speaker 3: reach out to if you are a queer person or transperson,
- 4:58Speaker 3: or you need resources, if you're looking to get involved,
- 5:01Speaker 3: you can give to organizations like the ACLU.
- 5:04Speaker 2: I know they're super duper and warm moode right now.
- 5:06Speaker 3: You can get involved with places like the Yellowhammer Fund,
- 5:09Speaker 3: which is an incredible organization. They not only provide funds
- 5:13Speaker 3: for people who need abortion care, but you can also
- 5:15Speaker 3: join with them in maybe accompanying someone to their appointment
- 5:19Speaker 3: if they need a chaperone, or helping to drive someone
- 5:21Speaker 3: to where they need to be to get the health
- 5:23Speaker 3: care that they need. But also, like locally, you can
- 5:26Speaker 3: get involved in your local LGBTQ youth organization. There is
- 5:30Speaker 3: a new organization that I well maybe it's not new,
- 5:33Speaker 3: but I just recently learned about it called Stand in Pride,
- 5:36Speaker 3: and they're available for LGBTQ folks who maybe don't have
- 5:41Speaker 3: supportive family, maybe don't have a lot of community, and
- 5:44Speaker 3: they'll do anything from like listening. If you've had a
- 5:46Speaker 3: bad day and you need somebody to talk to up
- 5:49Speaker 3: to there'll be somebody to walk you down the aisle.
- 5:52Speaker 3: If your family is not attending your wedding, so definitely
- 5:54Speaker 3: reach out to them if you need some support. But also, like, Chelsea,
- 5:59Speaker 3: what would you say about getting involved with people that
- 6:02Speaker 3: you know? I mean, I think, like send somebody a note.
- 6:04Speaker 3: If you have like a queerer, trans person or a
- 6:07Speaker 3: person of color in your life who you know you
- 6:08Speaker 3: feel like needs a little bit of extra support right now,
- 6:11Speaker 3: send them a note, send them a text. If you're
- 6:14Speaker 3: feeling like your your nervous system is totally shot, get
- 6:17Speaker 3: out in nature. Any other sort of recommendations that.
- 6:20Speaker 1: You'd have, Chelsea, Yeah, I mean I would just remind
- 6:23Speaker 1: everybody to act with a lot of love and a
- 6:27Speaker 1: lot of you know, spread joy and love wherever you can,
- 6:30Speaker 1: and support to anybody who's confused or scared. And I
- 6:34Speaker 1: even if that person is you, I think when you
- 6:36Speaker 1: really kind of can. I looked up a word this
- 6:40Speaker 1: weekend called aura in Spanish that means now, but in English.
- 6:44Speaker 1: It's about spreading love, kindness, and empathy, and I think
- 6:47Speaker 1: we need that more than ever, Like we've lost our
- 6:49Speaker 1: way as a society. People don't give a shit about
- 6:51Speaker 1: other people. So if you're somebody who does, make sure
- 6:54Speaker 1: other people feel that love and compassion, go out of
- 6:56Speaker 1: your way for people. You know, we're all in this together,
- 6:59Speaker 1: and the more we can become a collective and stand
- 7:02Speaker 1: in solidarity with each other and do little small things
- 7:05Speaker 1: for people, little small acts of kindness to people each day,
- 7:08Speaker 1: is going to help your soul and help others.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Absolutely, what advice would you have? I know a lot
- 7:14Speaker 3: of people are staring down the barrel of Thanksgiving and
- 7:16Speaker 3: other holidays and potentially being around family that they're not
- 7:20Speaker 3: excited to be around.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Right now, I am not going to be around any
- 7:24Speaker 1: of my family members that.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Are involved in Trump.
- 7:27Speaker 1: That's where and that's where I'm at, and that's.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Where I'm staying. Yeah.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I sent an email to someone last night letting them
- 7:34Speaker 1: know that they were not welcome to come to my
- 7:36Speaker 1: special taping.
- 7:37Speaker 2: I don't know how.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Long this feeling will last where I am not willing
- 7:40Speaker 1: to hang out with anybody that supports conspiracy theories or believes,
- 7:47Speaker 1: you know, the things that I steadfastly stand again. So
- 7:50Speaker 1: I don't know if that's the right advice to give
- 7:52Speaker 1: to everyone. I'm not giving it. I'm just telling you
- 7:54Speaker 1: that's what I'm doing because I'm too disheartened to have
- 7:58Speaker 1: any energy around me like that.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I think from both of us, you're off the
- 8:02Speaker 3: hook and you don't have to go be with your
- 8:05Speaker 3: family right now. I'll make a different, cozy little plan
- 8:07Speaker 3: for the holidays.
- 8:08Speaker 1: And you don't have to be an asshole about it. No, No,
- 8:11Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I'm not there yet. I can't. I can't be with
- 8:13Speaker 2: you guys yet. I mean, that's great advice.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, so I know we went over a lot
- 8:17Speaker 1: of LGBTQ groups. There's also Earthjustice dot org, which is
- 8:21Speaker 1: focusing on the climate and environmental law. So that's one
- 8:26Speaker 1: of the nation's leading environmental law organizations. And then there's
- 8:30Speaker 1: also Indivisible, which is a grassroots movement of thousands of
- 8:34Speaker 1: local indivisible groups with a mission to elect progressive leaders,
- 8:38Speaker 1: rebuild our democracy, and defeat the Trump agenda.
- 8:40Speaker 2: That's Invisible dot org.
- 8:42Speaker 1: And then there are some crisis hotlines because I know
- 8:45Speaker 1: a lot of people are.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Panicking and are feeling very hopeless.
- 8:51Speaker 1: So for anyone who has a transgender member of their
- 8:56Speaker 1: family or if you are trans, there is a trans Lifeline,
- 8:59Speaker 1: which is a twenty four to seven hotline and the
- 9:01Speaker 1: numbers eight seven seven five six five eight eight six. Oh.
- 9:06Speaker 1: The Trevor Project has a hot line two for any
- 9:09Speaker 1: members of the LGBTQ community. That's eight six six four
- 9:12Speaker 1: eight eight seventy three eighty six. That's eight sixty six
- 9:16Speaker 1: four eight eight seventy three eighty six. And then there's
- 9:20Speaker 1: the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, so that's one eight hundred
- 9:24Speaker 1: two seven three eight two five five. And then there's
- 9:27Speaker 1: a Crisis text line, which is a free twenty four
- 9:29Speaker 1: seven twenty four hour a day, seven day week support
- 9:32Speaker 1: service for those in crisis, and you can text start
- 9:35Speaker 1: to seven four to one dash seven four to one.
- 9:39Speaker 1: And then there's an lgbt Q National Youth talk Line
- 9:43Speaker 1: and you can call them at eight hundred two four
- 9:45Speaker 1: six seven seven four to three. And all of these
- 9:49Speaker 1: organizations except donations and are all looking for volunteers.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Okay, So that is your election update everyone. Godspeed,
