- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to a lily Pad production.
- 0:04Speaker 2: This is the Team Up Play Show podcast.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Previously in the City of Bones.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Mm hmmm, that was scary. I got your dad.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Maybe I'll take your dad there and could get some
- 0:49Speaker 3: help try to stabilize them.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah, we're close to the library. If you guys wanna
- 0:56Speaker 2: want to go there, we can. We can try and regroup.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I know it's safe there. I get under Quanta's shoulder
- 1:02Speaker 2: and we limp our way to the library.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Jason has before used his bed almost in hospice for
- 1:18Speaker 4: Arthur when Bully's head beat him up. It is not
- 1:24Speaker 4: then a far stretch for your new friend Ronnie to
- 1:29Speaker 4: be healing in your bed before sleep takes you both
- 1:36Speaker 4: what comes to your minds and mouths?
- 1:41Speaker 1: Sorry about the mess.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I'm Jason's like frantically like picking up clothes off the floor,
- 1:46Speaker 2: and like you see just this wall of paper and
- 1:49Speaker 2: string connecting like mob dudes and magic and stuff like
- 1:54Speaker 2: all pinned to his walls. Room is just a huge mess.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I think looking like laying down her bed and you
- 2:00Speaker 1: can correct me if I'm making up something that wouldn't exist.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I'm looking up at a poster above your bed and
- 2:08Speaker 1: I say, who is Sherlock Holmes? Oh?
- 2:14Speaker 2: Oh for real? Yeah, Oh you don't know. He's it's
- 2:17Speaker 2: the world's greatest detective slash drug addict.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Oh could he help us? Oh?
- 2:24Speaker 2: Well, he's you know what, Maybe in a way it's
- 2:27Speaker 2: not real, but he is. He's real in people's hearts.
- 2:34Speaker 2: And yeah, I was stupid. It's no story, no no, yeah,
- 2:39Speaker 2: I mean, but that's okay. Just because it's fake doesn't
- 2:41Speaker 2: mean it's less important.
- 2:47Speaker 1: That sounds like something I've said before.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yeah, before I met you, guys, Sherlock Holmes, I thought
- 2:52Speaker 2: of him as like one of my friends.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Is that sad a little bit? Jason?
- 2:57Speaker 2: Okay, well it seems like you're you're feeling better the
- 3:03Speaker 2: papers holding Okay.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you. I appreciate it, all of it. You
- 3:10Speaker 1: saved my life tonight.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Oh sure, I mean yeah, you do the same for me.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Yeah I would. Yeah. Hey, do you mind if I
- 3:22Speaker 1: ask you a question?
- 3:23Speaker 2: Go for it?
- 3:27Speaker 1: Do you think.
- 3:30Speaker 2: You believe in magic? Right now?
- 3:34Speaker 1: I have to.
- 3:36Speaker 2: You think it's like safe?
- 3:42Speaker 1: Do you feel safe?
- 3:45Speaker 2: Oh? Like, I guess I'm not sure. What I'm asking
- 3:52Speaker 2: about more is is this? And Jason pulls out Jami
- 3:58Speaker 2: Or's grandmother's spell book.
- 4:01Speaker 1: What is that?
- 4:02Speaker 2: It's a book? I found it your mears. I just
- 4:06Speaker 2: I don't Jason, Well, don't tell him. I don't know
- 4:10Speaker 2: if he'll he'll be mad talking about me grabbing his
- 4:13Speaker 2: grandma's clothes.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think I've come around on that for
- 4:15Speaker 1: good reason. Well, we can put it back, or I
- 4:20Speaker 1: think you should, or at least talk to him about it.
- 4:23Speaker 1: You don't even want to know what's in me. I do,
- 4:25Speaker 1: of course, I wish. I don't want to just take
- 4:27Speaker 1: it away. I opened the book.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Yeah, go ahead and roll a knowledge check. Knowledge I
- 4:36Speaker 4: help out with this Tolorus check. I think I'll have
- 4:39Speaker 4: you roll separately knowledge or spirit.
- 4:43Speaker 1: My powers do not help me here. Five six.
- 4:47Speaker 2: This is an epic check. I rolled to fourteen.
- 4:50Speaker 4: You start flipping through this and the runic language is
- 4:55Speaker 4: the ancient languages mean nothing to you.
- 5:00Speaker 1: This is all unreadable. I don't why would you think
- 5:05Speaker 1: this would be dangerous?
- 5:08Speaker 2: I don't know. I just had a sense about it.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Something something in here, and Jason points to his chest.
- 5:17Speaker 2: It's pulling me towards it. I don't know.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Well, I'm glad you told me. Sure, Yeah, I trust you.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I mean.
- 5:28Speaker 2: It's not like we can do anything with it right now.
- 5:30Speaker 2: But you're not going to tell Jamir.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I think you should tell Jamir.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Maybe I used to be like, you know, a lot
- 5:42Speaker 1: of people would come to me for advice. So you know,
- 5:46Speaker 1: I'm not saying they did because I was lying to them.
- 5:49Speaker 1: But in this I'm being this is good advice. I
- 5:52Speaker 1: think you should tell Jamir Okay. I mean, yeah, it
- 5:56Speaker 1: feels like the right.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Thing to do, I think so.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I mean, but again, I don't think I'm the the
- 6:03Speaker 1: best authority about what's right. We're figuring it out. Yeah,
- 6:11Speaker 1: what did what did Charlotte Holmes think about right and wrong? Well?
- 6:16Speaker 2: He did do a lot of drugs, okay, but he
- 6:19Speaker 2: also fought crime. But he also treated his best friend
- 6:22Speaker 2: kind of like garbage, okay, and he was kind of
- 6:25Speaker 2: an asshole.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Sounds like somebody else I know, you know, Arthur. Well,
- 6:32Speaker 1: I'm talking about you. I'm trying to make a joke. Oh, sorry,
- 6:37Speaker 1: your ribs.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Yeah, Oh, I don't do drugs.
- 6:43Speaker 1: You might be you know, you're full of something though.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. Tea do you want tea?
- 6:50Speaker 1: Sure? I love tea?
- 6:52Speaker 4: All right, the two of you find some solace from
- 6:57Speaker 4: the events of the night. It is scary to be
- 7:02Speaker 4: the target of the violence. You've been the target of
- 7:05Speaker 4: this evening, and there's comfort in one another as you
- 7:10Speaker 4: find some rest.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Can I ask you just a separate question here, Johnny,
- 7:15Speaker 2: Jason doesn't need to know anything about the book. Does
- 7:19Speaker 2: the paper Phantom know anything? Good question? Jason sneaks away
- 7:26Speaker 2: to a different room with a book as Quanta begins
- 7:33Speaker 2: to snore sleepy time tea just on the nightstand.
- 7:38Speaker 4: The paper covers you. You feel the phantom taking a wheel,
- 7:48Speaker 4: encouraging Jason to let him take a look.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Give me the book, Jason, we could use power.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Quantasaid we should give it banks to mirror and she's
- 8:03Speaker 2: pretty smart and feels like I don't know if she
- 8:06Speaker 2: had do drugs. Is that what I should? No?
- 8:08Speaker 5: No, Jason, Jason, there's a Powell in the book. I
- 8:15Speaker 5: can feel it.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Roll another spirit.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Check with your paper sense, and this is going down
- 8:26Speaker 4: from epic to difficult.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Five.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Okay, I rolled an eight. The paper Phantom flips through this,
- 8:35Speaker 4: turning the pages without touching them, trying to soak it in.
- 8:42Speaker 4: The paper Phantom doesn't find any kind of the magic
- 8:45Speaker 4: with which he is familiar. And that's all you get
- 8:49Speaker 4: from the paper, Phantom looking through the book. All right,
- 8:54Speaker 4: can we go to sleep now? Fine paper comes off
- 9:00Speaker 4: from you guys, find rest, Jamiir. Is there anything you
- 9:04Speaker 4: want to do this night before sleep in your house?
- 9:07Speaker 3: So I finished talking to Lance. Yes, go downstairs, see
- 9:13Speaker 3: if Marie is still on the first floor.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I think she helped you with Lance and then went
- 9:19Speaker 2: to her She went to bed.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, unless you wanted her to hang out and
- 9:24Speaker 4: told her so.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I was just I'll look around downstairs, see that
- 9:29Speaker 3: the lights are dim. Go to the kitchen and put
- 9:32Speaker 3: on a kettle. Grab a popcorn bag from the top
- 9:37Speaker 3: of the fridge, throw it in the microwave, kind of
- 9:42Speaker 3: with dead eyes. Just watch the popcorn popping in the bag.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Let the tea kettle whistle a little too long before
- 9:53Speaker 3: I walk over, Pour my tea, get my popcorn. Still
- 10:01Speaker 3: wearing my pretty crummy costume. I just sit on the couch,
- 10:10Speaker 3: eat the popcorn, sip my tea, and just begin to
- 10:15Speaker 3: picture the different people in my life wearing one of
- 10:21Speaker 3: those everwing costumes.
- 10:25Speaker 2: It's beautiful to think that from across the city we
- 10:27Speaker 2: might still be looking at the same tea. We're always
- 10:33Speaker 2: looking at the same tea.
- 10:34Speaker 4: You know, you think about people, you know Jackie, You
- 10:42Speaker 4: think about your siblings. Think for a minute about your
- 10:47Speaker 4: mom or your dad. Your mom being the direct descendant. Yeah,
- 10:53Speaker 4: they're the closest direct descendant of the Everwing. And then
- 10:57Speaker 4: a face shows up in that mask that you don't
- 11:02Speaker 4: really want to think about it there, but you know
- 11:04Speaker 4: it would have been a perfect fit. Think about your
- 11:08Speaker 4: buddy Taylor, everybody, and as you fall into a sleep
- 11:15Speaker 4: on the couch, you dream about the woman who took
- 11:18Speaker 4: his life taking another shot right in his head through
- 11:25Speaker 4: the Everwing helmet. Everybody, take a full rest, rest on
- 11:37Speaker 4: the recovery rest your you roll your strength, dive for
- 11:42Speaker 4: your hit points. Nope, nope, nope, nope. You roll your resilience,
- 11:45Speaker 4: dive for your hit points, and you roll your strength,
- 11:47Speaker 4: dive for your energy points and get those back however
- 11:50Speaker 4: you want to. And all your death points come back
- 11:53Speaker 4: if you lost any of those, and all of your
- 11:58Speaker 4: support bulls come back if you lost any of those.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I am still at an energy deficit.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yeah, with I guess with quant to sleep in my
- 12:06Speaker 2: bed too. That's probably why I'm like sleeping.
- 12:09Speaker 1: On the floor, sleeping on a pile of books. Also snoring.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Isn't it beautiful to think we're all surrounded by the
- 12:18Speaker 1: same snores across the city.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Snoring is like one of my least favorite sounds of
- 12:22Speaker 4: all time.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I don't know why I hate it. You sure do?
- 12:27Speaker 1: You sure do?
- 12:28Speaker 2: Do it? I imagine like a cartoon dog, like a
- 12:33Speaker 2: piece of papers, like floating above Jason's mouth.
- 12:42Speaker 4: The next morning, Jason and Ronnie come and relieve Jamir
- 12:48Speaker 4: because Jamiir has a brunch date.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Oh luck, buddy, Jamior showers before you guys get there,
- 12:55Speaker 3: say hey, I think your dad's at a much needed
- 13:00Speaker 3: at rest.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 13:02Speaker 2: I'll be back. I don't know when.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Yeah, go get him and do a little shoulder punch.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll see if anything happens.
- 13:11Speaker 1: But I don't add my shoulder punch turns into like
- 13:15Speaker 1: a sincere shoulder grab.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Jami or she she did not seem interested, and I
- 13:22Speaker 2: grab his other shoulder sincerely.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Could you get us some coffee? Though? Oh?
- 13:28Speaker 3: Could you guys?
- 13:32Speaker 2: There's coffee in the kitchen.
- 13:34Speaker 3: I'm gonna go sit and think and you know, shoot
- 13:38Speaker 3: or shoot, so we'll see what happens with teres A right,
- 13:42Speaker 3: teres right, yep, hell yeah, nailed it. Good luck bye
- 13:49Speaker 3: Jason by Phantom, Bye.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Bye, break a leg. Hell yeah, bro.
- 13:59Speaker 4: Jamir goes off to have his brunch date with Charise
- 14:04Speaker 4: the sex Butler at one of his favorite brunch spots,
- 14:08Speaker 4: Jimmy Buffet. The two of you are here, and Lance
- 14:14Speaker 4: is downstairs in the nest.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna go talk to my dad.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I'm gonna make coffee and poke around.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Send them down the tube in a thermos.
- 14:23Speaker 2: I'll just put it loose in the tube.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Just just don't know coffee then we don't. Don't just be.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Coffee in the kitchen, pouring coffee in the tubes.
- 14:34Speaker 1: I'm so sorry, Jimmy, or I'm so sorry. I'm trying.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I go downstairs.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Yeah, your dad, as you arrive, is just now sitting
- 14:44Speaker 4: up in one of the cots there in the nest.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Hey Dad, Ronnie, good morning, Good morning. I honey, I
- 14:57Speaker 4: thought you were I thought you were gone.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Sit down on the foot of the bed. I'm still here.
- 15:04Speaker 2: They said they the church said that you died.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Yeah. I wanted them to think that, Oh.
- 15:13Speaker 4: That makes that makes sense.
- 15:15Speaker 1: I thought I thought if that was true, then the
- 15:20Speaker 1: people I loved would be safe. But it didn't turn
- 15:23Speaker 1: out that way.
- 15:25Speaker 4: Hum, well, that's tough because they did the same thing
- 15:31Speaker 4: to me. What I They told me, you would be
- 15:39Speaker 4: safe and your moms would be safe if I keep
- 15:43Speaker 4: kept helping, kept helping them.
- 15:46Speaker 2: M hm.
- 15:48Speaker 4: It's been years, Ronnie, And when you died, of course
- 15:54Speaker 4: I was heartbroken. But it just had your moms over me.
- 15:58Speaker 4: Then why didn't you?
- 16:01Speaker 2: What were you gonna do?
- 16:02Speaker 4: Dude?
- 16:03Speaker 1: You let me move all the way up through that
- 16:04Speaker 1: organization and hurt people.
- 16:09Speaker 4: I was hurting people, yes, and so was I, but
- 16:14Speaker 4: I didn't know what else to do. They were gonna
- 16:16Speaker 4: kill you, kill your moms. They're dangerous folks.
- 16:22Speaker 1: They are. They are. I'm sorry, I'm no. No, you
- 16:27Speaker 1: should be at them.
- 16:35Speaker 4: No, you should be mad. You can be mad at me,
- 16:37Speaker 4: be mad at them.
- 16:39Speaker 1: It's all so fucked.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's fucked. Swomp, hot coffee spills out of
- 16:48Speaker 2: the tube.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Oh my god, a thermost Jesus, I don't feel bad
- 16:54Speaker 1: about my anger going at him right now. I don't
- 16:56Speaker 1: know why.
- 16:57Speaker 4: Well, it's gotta go some wait, hold on, stop. Last
- 17:02Speaker 4: night you busted in there like you were gonna deal
- 17:05Speaker 4: with those guys.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and we got you out and you know
- 17:12Speaker 1: didn't turn out so so well.
- 17:14Speaker 4: But you knocked me out pretty quick or something did.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that was me. I'm sorry. I just I needed
- 17:20Speaker 1: you to not say who I was and to calm down.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Oh okay, it's a good idea. I was freaking out
- 17:28Speaker 4: a little.
- 17:29Speaker 1: How is he feeling now and is he telling the truth? Yeah?
- 17:35Speaker 4: Roll a sense check. This is an average check.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Doing sense and scan four.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Rolled an eight.
- 17:43Speaker 4: You're not able to really read your dad in this moment,
- 17:46Speaker 4: but you've known the man a long time, your whole life.
- 17:49Speaker 4: You feel like he seems honest. He doesn't have much
- 17:53Speaker 4: reason to lie to you here.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Yeah him. I just I needed you to calm down.
- 17:57Speaker 1: But we got you out of there. Well, my my friends,
- 18:02Speaker 1: my new friends got you out of there and got
- 18:03Speaker 1: me out of there. I didn't Yeah, new friends I met.
- 18:06Speaker 4: I had a I don't know if I was dreaming,
- 18:08Speaker 4: but there's one called Richel.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Yes, Rachel, Yeah he was here last night. Yeah, he
- 18:14Speaker 1: brought you here strong, so strong, like too strong though,
- 18:18Speaker 1: like stronger than Dirk strong.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Yeah, what's going on? Ronnie?
- 18:25Speaker 1: I found I found two other people who are strange
- 18:30Speaker 1: in a similar way that I'm strange.
- 18:32Speaker 4: By strange, you mean like your powers, You're.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Yeah, swamp, just an empty thermist comes down.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Oh my god, Jason, before you see it down. Okay,
- 18:49Speaker 1: I'm I think I need to figure out how to
- 18:54Speaker 1: express my feelings. Dad. Oh, that's that's what I'm feeling
- 18:58Speaker 1: right now. Yeah.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Well, when Ragel was talking to me last night, I
- 19:05Speaker 4: was worried they still had you because I didn't see you.
- 19:08Speaker 4: But you you're free.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I am. I have seen the Church council again,
- 19:14Speaker 1: but I was able to wipe the memory of me,
- 19:19Speaker 1: so they still don't know I'm out here.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Wow.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Okay, well, Owen Wilson dad.
- 19:28Speaker 4: Someone told me that the dad sounded like Owen. I
- 19:31Speaker 4: was like, so, I'm trying to just lean into it
- 19:34Speaker 4: a little, but i feel like I'm not that.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Good at it. Wow.
- 19:40Speaker 4: The Church council, Yeah, they're a mess right now. By
- 19:46Speaker 4: the way, Okay, totally I've been hearing him talk, just
- 19:51Speaker 4: totally falling apart. Good good, Yeah, what were you doing?
- 19:58Speaker 4: There was another divice like the one that Jerry wore. Yes, no,
- 20:03Speaker 4: it was the same one. They grabbed Jerry's spine and
- 20:09Speaker 4: the device, and they made me fix it. They took
- 20:14Speaker 4: me to Vision's Call, where I didn't exactly know how
- 20:18Speaker 4: to fix it, but they they said if they could
- 20:21Speaker 4: maybe take out that memory of me seeing it and
- 20:25Speaker 4: working with it, that I could view that and fix
- 20:28Speaker 4: it better that and it worked kind of maybe they
- 20:31Speaker 4: kept having me work or like I said, they were
- 20:33Speaker 4: going to kill your moms. It's good that I'm they
- 20:38Speaker 4: don't have me. Now, who slow down? You said the
- 20:42Speaker 4: church council is a mess? Who are they? Who are
- 20:44Speaker 4: you talking about?
- 20:45Speaker 1: Oh?
- 20:46Speaker 4: Right now, I'm not sure it was always the Church council,
- 20:49Speaker 4: but now there was that man with the dragon tattoos,
- 20:54Speaker 4: the one who wanted to wear. The man with the
- 20:59Speaker 4: dragon tattoo has mostly been talking to me. His name
- 21:03Speaker 4: is Hikar Hikaru. He's he's Yakuza, and Utah who you met,
- 21:14Speaker 4: He's Yakuza. Okay, But I know that Yakuza right now
- 21:20Speaker 4: is at big war with the Irish a lot of
- 21:25Speaker 4: bad stuff going on there, and so that's making the
- 21:27Speaker 4: Church council all messed up because Mitchell, who is on
- 21:30Speaker 4: the Church Council, and Camp are both from the Irish gang.
- 21:34Speaker 1: The flog.
- 21:36Speaker 4: So church council is a mess right now. They're not talking,
- 21:38Speaker 4: they're not meeting anymore. So someone else is trying to
- 21:41Speaker 4: fund and get this new Dirk up and running. And
- 21:45Speaker 4: it's not Dirk. Obviously they didn't name her yet. They
- 21:48Speaker 4: just kept calling her swift shot. I don't know where
- 21:50Speaker 4: they got that.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I heard that, And so she's she's something different Dirk.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I can. I can sense his soul. I could communicate
- 22:00Speaker 1: with him. I could, I like connected with him as
- 22:04Speaker 1: like a fellow being that thinks and feels. But her
- 22:09Speaker 1: there was there was something missing that's not in everybody
- 22:12Speaker 1: else all the day and all the humans.
- 22:14Speaker 4: M Yeah, Dirk was a I just felt bad for him.
- 22:18Speaker 4: They had me patch him up after his missions. But anyway,
- 22:23Speaker 4: he's gone.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Now, M.
- 22:29Speaker 1: What he's here here here?
- 22:32Speaker 4: Oh, I don't know if he if I don't know
- 22:36Speaker 4: if he should see me.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I yeah, I think I would leave that decision up
- 22:40Speaker 1: to him if we wake him up again.
- 22:42Speaker 2: How about maybe up to me?
- 22:45Speaker 1: Why?
- 22:46Speaker 4: Well, because I was part of the whole people that
- 22:49Speaker 4: did bad stuff to him.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and he's he's the victim here.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Well yeah, but he could kill me. I was trying
- 22:55Speaker 4: to protect you and your mom's. But all I'm saying
- 22:59Speaker 4: is I don't think your moms are in danger if
- 23:02Speaker 4: they don't have me, because they'll want to have leverage
- 23:06Speaker 4: over me if they find me. I think as long
- 23:10Speaker 4: as they don't have me, your moms are safe.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Wait wait are you? Like? Did you? Did you separate
- 23:21Speaker 1: from moms because because of the church? But like, not
- 23:25Speaker 1: in the way I thought.
- 23:27Speaker 4: He gets a little downcast and sad. Yeah.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I still.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Still love them, but I couldn't be around him anymore.
- 23:47Speaker 4: Too dangerous. Jason comes through the door. Hey, guys, I'm
- 23:56Speaker 4: really sorry. I I got bad news. We're out of coffee.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Just stare at Jason. Hi. Hello, my name is Lance Dad.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Jason Jason Dad.
- 24:11Speaker 4: Hello Jason? Were you there last night?
- 24:14Speaker 1: Mm? Hmmm, which one were you?
- 24:17Speaker 2: I'm I was Jason. I'm Jason.
- 24:20Speaker 4: Okay, he was the one covered in paper. Oh wow.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Let's cut over to jamiir add to Jimmy Buffet.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Jamiere, you are here.
- 24:47Speaker 4: There is a fry cook that you know here as well, Scotty.
- 24:56Speaker 4: Different from Scotty. Scotty's brother Winston. Yeah, Scotty's brother Winston
- 25:04Speaker 4: works at Jimmy Buffet. It's pretty close to the Grimace king.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Uh.
- 25:09Speaker 4: It's busy today, as it always is during the brunch hour.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Hey, Jamir, how you doing.
- 25:16Speaker 3: I'm doing good? Can I have the bottomless fruitcakes? If
- 25:19Speaker 3: you guys are still running those? Oh yeah sure sure
- 25:21Speaker 3: sure he brings you up.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks? And can I have.
- 25:26Speaker 3: I have a Lotti dah easy on the ice there.
- 25:32Speaker 4: Yeah, you're expecting company.
- 25:35Speaker 2: You know, I'm open to what the day might bring.
- 25:37Speaker 4: You could say, oh, hey, I love to hear it. Yeah,
- 25:42Speaker 4: that's what Winston at Jimmy Buffet is always making people
- 25:46Speaker 4: fall in love.
- 25:48Speaker 2: That's what they say.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Yeah, don't, don't, don't do that, man, that third person
- 25:52Speaker 3: things fucking weird.
- 25:53Speaker 4: But you grab a booth and you wait, you wait
- 25:59Speaker 4: and wait and wait for I got the bottomless fruitcakes.
- 26:02Speaker 4: You wait and eat a bunch of fruitcakes. What's a fruitcake? Well,
- 26:07Speaker 4: fruitcake is a it's a Jimmy Buffett song. So I thought, oh,
- 26:11Speaker 4: that's pancakes fruitcakes and I did not even think of that.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Maybe there's like strawberries in them or something.
- 26:17Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 26:18Speaker 4: Yeah, it's pancakes, burgers in them, burgers, padise.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Yeah, you know that's got to be Jimmy Buffett references.
- 26:26Speaker 4: It's got to be different items, different menu items. There's
- 26:30Speaker 4: a Margaritaville burger that's lime and tla.
- 26:36Speaker 1: That must exist already.
- 26:37Speaker 2: I'm sure it does. It's got to. We'll talk about
- 26:41Speaker 2: in the chat cake. But there is. Jimmy Buffett has
- 26:44Speaker 2: Margaritaville is a thing.
- 26:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm sure there's a It's five o'clock Sunday, you know,
- 26:50Speaker 3: come on like a Sunday.
- 26:53Speaker 1: You know, ice games as well.
- 26:57Speaker 4: You wait for Cherie who never shows Jamir and it's
- 27:02Speaker 4: getting to about noon and you're starting to give up hope,
- 27:08Speaker 4: but you know, you never put too many eggs in
- 27:10Speaker 4: that sharise basket. People start clearing out a little bit.
- 27:15Speaker 4: You're hanging out and something on the TV catches your
- 27:18Speaker 4: eye and Winston goes over and yells at the room
- 27:24Speaker 4: and just says, hey, hey, quiet down, I want to
- 27:27Speaker 4: hear this.
- 27:27Speaker 1: This is big.
- 27:36Speaker 4: New Babel News comes on, which is the main source
- 27:39Speaker 4: of TV news and New Babel. The head anchor starts talking,
- 27:44Speaker 4: this is Connor Seiner for New Babel News, and we
- 27:49Speaker 4: have a breaking update in politics this morning. In hopes
- 27:53Speaker 4: to encourage a vote for mayor. Two candidates have announced
- 27:58Speaker 4: their hopes to run in a mayoral election that has
- 28:03Speaker 4: yet to be voted for. While some are glad that
- 28:06Speaker 4: they may have other options, many find themselves annoyed that
- 28:10Speaker 4: these political upstarts seek to disturb the status quo. It
- 28:15Speaker 4: cuts to an image and it's a man kind of
- 28:19Speaker 4: a sultan peppery hair, a close Sultan pepper Beard, very
- 28:24Speaker 4: attractive and strong man in underneath, it says Henry hilland
- 28:30Speaker 4: announces candidacy from Mayor Jamir. That name rings a bell
- 28:36Speaker 4: to you immediately. You went to Hilland High School in
- 28:41Speaker 4: Colorado South. The anchor continues, Henry hilland a famous philanthropist
- 28:47Speaker 4: and the people's hero has used his wealth from hilland
- 28:51Speaker 4: Motors to pay for hospitals, schools, food banks, living spaces,
- 28:56Speaker 4: park maintenance and everything else around the city. He runs
- 29:00Speaker 4: on getting New Babel to be a part of the
- 29:03Speaker 4: world again, ladies and gentlemen. Doesn't that sound ridiculous? He
- 29:07Speaker 4: moved through every part of the city's system. Beat Cup
- 29:10Speaker 4: Detective da mayoral assistant, and then it cuts to a
- 29:15Speaker 4: clip of him speaking people of New Babel. There are
- 29:20Speaker 4: secrets that have been kept from you. Olive branches that
- 29:25Speaker 4: the world has offered that your mayor now sits upon greedily.
- 29:31Speaker 4: They have offered us the means to print American money.
- 29:35Speaker 4: I learned that when I was his assistant. Can you
- 29:39Speaker 4: imagine that that has never come to light, that we
- 29:43Speaker 4: sit here and suffer trapped, not able to explore the
- 29:47Speaker 4: world around us. America has also offered us large amounts
- 29:52Speaker 4: of money if the city were willing to come back
- 29:56Speaker 4: into or come back as an American prim rovens, as
- 30:01Speaker 4: long as we are willing to share the secrets in
- 30:04Speaker 4: science and progress that this city holds. The leaders of
- 30:08Speaker 4: this city are corrupt, and they want to keep you
- 30:11Speaker 4: ignorant in the dark. I want to shed light, give
- 30:14Speaker 4: you freedom, opportunity. The crowd he's speaking to erupts in applause.
- 30:19Speaker 4: It's time to become a part of America again.
- 30:24Speaker 3: I kind of look around Jimmy buffet and see how
- 30:28Speaker 3: are the people here kind of taking in this speech
- 30:32Speaker 3: and these ideas.
- 30:33Speaker 4: I think it's shocking people wide eyed, nodding, seeming to
- 30:40Speaker 4: take interest.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Certainly. The camera goes back to the anchor.
- 30:45Speaker 4: And with a wealth of fresh fruit and vegetables bursting
- 30:51Speaker 4: forth out of the downtown area. A shocking candidate for mayor.
- 30:56Speaker 4: Cordula Soma, the leader of the Core Gang, announces her.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Candidacy for mayor.
- 31:03Speaker 4: Whoa She runs on the city of New Babbel becoming
- 31:08Speaker 4: more like the Shoot.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Can you imagine? She claims to have got.
- 31:12Speaker 4: The biodome in the last space barge up and running
- 31:17Speaker 4: the oranges. She's claiming that she could spread that around
- 31:22Speaker 4: and make no man's land fruitful and that we could
- 31:27Speaker 4: become self sustaining as a city. Let's hear her thoughts
- 31:31Speaker 4: on becoming mayor. It cuts to Cordula Soma, the leader
- 31:37Speaker 4: of the Core Gang, who is around the same age.
- 31:40Speaker 4: It seems as Henry kind of that middle aged.
- 31:44Speaker 3: She is.
- 31:46Speaker 4: A strong looking black woman, very like Angela Bassett type
- 31:53Speaker 4: strength in her. She says, the wealth of this city
- 31:58Speaker 4: is vast. Think about it because of our isolation. It
- 32:02Speaker 4: could be if infinite could if we could only learn
- 32:06Speaker 4: one of the very first lessons taught to our young
- 32:09Speaker 4: children to share. If one has excess, it ought to
- 32:13Speaker 4: be given to the one without any We in the
- 32:16Speaker 4: Shoots have lived this way for a long time, and
- 32:19Speaker 4: we are finally able to do it abundantly and freely
- 32:22Speaker 4: thanks to our wonderful scientists who have revived the biodome
- 32:25Speaker 4: in the space barge. We can make enough to save
- 32:28Speaker 4: the city become self sustaining. I'm a mob boss, I know,
- 32:34Speaker 4: and I know that the Irish control imports.
- 32:37Speaker 1: We don't have to.
- 32:38Speaker 4: Depend on their whims anymore. We can make it here
- 32:42Speaker 4: if we work hard enough. It cuts back to the anchor.
- 32:47Speaker 4: This seems like a not so subtle attempt to disturb
- 32:50Speaker 4: the stability that the mayor and his current staff have
- 32:53Speaker 4: painstakingly put into place. At this the uh Winston goes
- 32:59Speaker 4: up and turns it back down as the Jimmy Jimmy
- 33:04Speaker 4: buffets kind of erupts into chatter about these revelations.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Yeah, Jamir takes it in and is again.
- 33:21Speaker 3: These last few days, I've felt a little bit on
- 33:24Speaker 3: an island, as if I'm the only one that sees
- 33:28Speaker 3: the bullshit and sees how bad things are, and so
- 33:34Speaker 3: seeing that other people are like, hey, this is good.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Uh, Jamiir gets a little excited.
- 33:42Speaker 4: Is there anything else Jimmy wants to do? Before you
- 33:45Speaker 4: head a home? Do you head to your your shoot house?
- 33:50Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 33:50Speaker 3: Yeah, Jimiir would want to go back by his parents'
- 33:54Speaker 3: house in the shoot.
- 33:55Speaker 4: I don't know what day of the week it is,
- 33:56Speaker 4: but yeah, you can definitely head home the Uh, let's
- 34:01Speaker 4: go back to the manor you've had for a second.
- 34:05Speaker 4: You've had this chat with your dad. What steps do
- 34:10Speaker 4: you wanna take in next for Lance?
- 34:14Speaker 1: I think after shooting Jason away, just saying I I'm
- 34:23Speaker 1: going to need some time to think about everything that
- 34:24Speaker 1: you've told me. That's now I'm hearing myself about to
- 34:30Speaker 1: say that it's a lot. But you're the one who's
- 34:34Speaker 1: been blackmailed for years. But also I was, you know,
- 34:38Speaker 1: almost murdered and accused of murders. So yeah, no, yeah,
- 34:41Speaker 1: we've both been fucked up for sure. It's just important
- 34:46Speaker 1: that your moms are safe and that you're alive and safe.
- 34:50Speaker 1: That's what matters, what's always mattered. I'm not going to
- 34:53Speaker 1: be safe, dad, I gotta I gotta get to the
- 35:06Speaker 1: bottom of this. I have to stop it, and that
- 35:10Speaker 1: means I'm not going to be safe. Well what why?
- 35:19Speaker 1: Who else is going to and to be honest, to
- 35:26Speaker 1: make up for a lot of stuff.
- 35:28Speaker 4: Well, when it's safe, I'll need to talk to your
- 35:32Speaker 4: moms about it, and well we'll let you know, let
- 35:38Speaker 4: me know what, well, if we want you to try that,
- 35:43Speaker 4: it's very dangerous.
- 35:44Speaker 1: I'm going to You're not going to tell me yes
- 35:46Speaker 1: or no about it. I've already decided.
- 35:48Speaker 4: We're still your parents. We have a say in how
- 35:51Speaker 4: you go about your life.
- 35:53Speaker 1: You can feel about it how you want to. But no,
- 35:55Speaker 1: you don't have a say. You should rest.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Okay, he lays back down.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Go find some real fucking coffee.
- 36:25Speaker 4: Jason, the is there anything you want to do here?
- 36:29Speaker 4: So I would say that certainly the book in your
- 36:32Speaker 4: hand is heavy, and you know someone who at least
- 36:37Speaker 4: has a level of understanding about magic.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Sure, yeah, I think with a little bit of downtime,
- 36:45Speaker 2: if you'll allow, I think, while making a big mess
- 36:48Speaker 2: in Jamier's kitchen trying to make coffee, I'd also I'd
- 36:53Speaker 2: like to just like put post it notes all over
- 36:57Speaker 2: the manor as like you know, little paper triple arms,
- 37:02Speaker 2: you know, kind of just sigling, just like take a
- 37:05Speaker 2: sticky note number one on the like each doorway and
- 37:08Speaker 2: kind of do that. But then, you know, as I'm
- 37:11Speaker 2: doing that, I think, yeah, the weight of the book
- 37:14Speaker 2: and thinking about Arthur and the library is open, I
- 37:17Speaker 2: should probably go should probably theoretically do my job and
- 37:22Speaker 2: see what he's doing. Jamiir and Jason start heading to
- 37:26Speaker 2: their homes and Quanta, are you hanging out here?
- 37:29Speaker 1: What are you doing? Where are you going? I clean
- 37:31Speaker 1: up the coffee and the thermos from my dad's room,
- 37:35Speaker 1: don't talk to him, and I think I'm gonna just
- 37:39Speaker 1: go walk in the tunnels.
- 37:42Speaker 4: Let's go take a walk. Tube time, tube time, got it,
- 37:46Speaker 4: take some tube time.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Some solo tube.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Time, contemplative tube time.
- 37:52Speaker 1: That's good.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Jami or You head towards the shoot.
- 38:05Speaker 4: And as you get closer, you haven't been home as
- 38:09Speaker 4: much lately to the shoot, and as you get closer,
- 38:13Speaker 4: you start to realize the wonder that's happening around the
- 38:19Speaker 4: shoot right now.
- 38:21Speaker 2: It is a buzz.
- 38:22Speaker 4: There are stands right next to the shoot and within
- 38:26Speaker 4: the shoote that are set up to give out piles
- 38:31Speaker 4: of seemingly never ending fresh fruits and vegetables. It's very strange,
- 38:38Speaker 4: and it has reached as you start to see and
- 38:41Speaker 4: maybe even ride your bike up and down a little bit,
- 38:45Speaker 4: that no one in the shoot is hungry or at
- 38:48Speaker 4: least want right now for fresh fruit and vegetables. The
- 38:52Speaker 4: people of the shoot have always introduced colorful elements to
- 38:55Speaker 4: the drab living scenario, but until now it's never been.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Natural. But now there are.
- 39:04Speaker 4: There's orange and red peppers and orange oranges, and lemons
- 39:10Speaker 4: and limes and all kinds of tropical fruit and citrus.
- 39:16Speaker 2: Is that a kum qua?
- 39:18Speaker 1: There's a kum quad?
- 39:20Speaker 2: Goddamn it is a.
- 39:23Speaker 4: You get close to your house, and underneath your neighbor's house,
- 39:27Speaker 4: if you remember, the shoot houses kind of stand on
- 39:30Speaker 4: small stilts so that they can build up, and the
- 39:35Speaker 4: entry way is underneath, and underneath your neighbor's house is
- 39:40Speaker 4: your neighbor an old black man who was blinded in
- 39:45Speaker 4: a factory accident. He used to work for Clank Industries,
- 39:49Speaker 4: which is in Ask and he was blinded by a
- 39:54Speaker 4: chemical fire, and the Choote took him in when he
- 39:58Speaker 4: really couldn't work at at his job anymore. And he
- 40:04Speaker 4: sits there rocking in his rocking chair, and as you
- 40:07Speaker 4: walk by, he calls out, jamiyir, Jami?
- 40:13Speaker 1: Or is that you? Yeah?
- 40:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's me.
- 40:16Speaker 3: Are you getting in on this fruits and vegs?
- 40:19Speaker 2: Craze?
- 40:19Speaker 4: Man? It's nuts over here, pretty amazing. Huh, Hey, I
- 40:24Speaker 4: haven't smelled you lately. How you doing so well?
- 40:28Speaker 3: I guess I need to shower, But I'm keeping busy,
- 40:31Speaker 3: you know, trying to make trying to make some extra
- 40:34Speaker 3: dough in the big city. But looks like things are
- 40:39Speaker 3: going pretty good here. And I just heard about the
- 40:42Speaker 3: candidacy announcement on the news. Things are looking up for
- 40:45Speaker 3: the old shooters.
- 40:46Speaker 4: Eh, I don't know. I don't know if it'll bring
- 40:50Speaker 4: It makes me worry, Jami. We have some special here,
- 40:53Speaker 4: we got a special life. Makes me worried about inviting
- 40:56Speaker 4: the rest to everybody into the way we do things.
- 41:00Speaker 4: But hey, I won't say no to the fruits and
- 41:02Speaker 4: veggies right now.
- 41:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not saying no to any of this shit.
- 41:05Speaker 3: This is awesome.
- 41:07Speaker 4: Well, you tell the family hello for me, and I'll
- 41:11Speaker 4: smell you later.
- 41:12Speaker 1: I guess.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Hey, hey, you smell me real soon.
- 41:14Speaker 4: Okay, alright, you Mare, You head up into your home
- 41:20Speaker 4: and your entire family is here on this day. We'll
- 41:24Speaker 4: say it's midday on a Saturday, and everybody's home and
- 41:28Speaker 4: you you pop your head in, and not only is
- 41:31Speaker 4: your whole family here, but Jackie is with your family
- 41:34Speaker 4: as well. She has brought by some big pineapples from
- 41:41Speaker 4: closer in because she lives closer in towards the station.
- 41:45Speaker 2: They don't cost anything for.
- 41:49Speaker 1: She doesn't cost you.
- 41:52Speaker 4: This is a bit from from the chat Cave. Hey,
- 41:56Speaker 4: join the chat Cave and you'll know all about this
- 41:58Speaker 4: pineapple bit. Jackie brings some pineapples, which holy night, and
- 42:07Speaker 4: she looks over and sees you. Jamir, man, I've been
- 42:12Speaker 4: looking for you. You haven't been around so much.
- 42:15Speaker 1: I know.
- 42:15Speaker 2: I know I'm the worst. I'm the worst.
- 42:17Speaker 3: But I saw the news and then I got down
- 42:20Speaker 3: here and it's like, it's like heaven.
- 42:24Speaker 4: Your dad is bursting with a huge smile.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Isn't that right, Jamir? It is heavenly here. Huh. We
- 42:33Speaker 1: made heaven here on earth in the shoot.
- 42:37Speaker 4: I couldn't be happier here, Son, And he hands you
- 42:40Speaker 4: just a big old hunkered of juicy pineapple, and then
- 42:44Speaker 4: a big old chunk of juicy watermelon in the other hand.
- 42:48Speaker 4: The sweetness of the earth here in the shoot, made
- 42:51Speaker 4: by our people. It's amazing.
- 42:53Speaker 3: Could have done it without you, Dad, I say, as
- 42:56Speaker 3: I start gnawing on this fruit.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Shoot. He says, I don't know.
- 43:06Speaker 4: I think they could have done it without me, Son,
- 43:09Speaker 4: But hey, they couldn't do the They couldn't do the
- 43:12Speaker 4: next part without me, you know what I mean?
- 43:14Speaker 1: Yes, Yes, I got ship.
- 43:17Speaker 3: I got you, super Jackie.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Did you get it?
- 43:25Speaker 4: Did you get it, Jackie? Yes, I got it. We
- 43:28Speaker 4: all need a place to poop. Thank you so much,
- 43:30Speaker 4: mister Jennings. We couldn't do it without you. I give
- 43:37Speaker 4: my dad a big hug and say, a shooter running
- 43:41Speaker 4: for mayor?
- 43:42Speaker 2: I heard about that?
- 43:44Speaker 3: Is that even real? I mean I can't imagine it
- 43:50Speaker 3: going over well, but even even getting on the ballot
- 43:54Speaker 3: would be historic.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Your mom, who has been listening, comes over and says,
- 44:01Speaker 4: and it's not gonna happen, sweetie. Can you imagine a
- 44:07Speaker 4: black woman from the shoot who has a history of crime.
- 44:13Speaker 4: It's not gonna It's gotta be some stunt. They gotta
- 44:17Speaker 4: be pulling our chain somehow. I mean, these fruit science stunts.
- 44:21Speaker 3: This is this is the abundance they've been promising us
- 44:26Speaker 3: my whole life. I suppose no disrespect, you know, I
- 44:32Speaker 3: say to my dad, but I didn't know if some
- 44:36Speaker 3: of these dreams would ever come through.
- 44:39Speaker 4: Dad just joyously kind of goes off to share this
- 44:44Speaker 4: time with your siblings and yells.
- 44:46Speaker 1: Oh, Jamir.
- 44:47Speaker 4: By the way, we're also celebrating something about your sister here, Lila. Yeah,
- 44:53Speaker 4: Lila got a job in the city, following you and
- 44:56Speaker 4: your sister's footsteps. Isn't that something what were looking for?
- 45:01Speaker 4: Lila comes over Jamiir. Yeah, I got a job at
- 45:06Speaker 4: at Ellington Electric.
- 45:07Speaker 2: I'm going to be an office aid.
- 45:10Speaker 3: Hell yeah. How much are they paying you?
- 45:12Speaker 1: Well?
- 45:13Speaker 4: I start out pretty low, but you know, there's a
- 45:16Speaker 4: lot of they say, they told me there was a
- 45:19Speaker 4: lot of potential to raise up the ring. How much
- 45:23Speaker 4: are they paying you though, they're starting at ten ten
- 45:26Speaker 4: dollars an hour?
- 45:27Speaker 3: Hey, hey, they're starting you at eight? Okay, what they're
- 45:34Speaker 3: starting you at eight?
- 45:37Speaker 2: What do you mean, Samir? I mean.
- 45:42Speaker 3: You split eight with mom, Dad, the corgan whoever, and
- 45:45Speaker 3: two you keep for you.
- 45:47Speaker 4: Oh well, that's fine, Jimy, But didn't you hear the
- 45:51Speaker 4: news of course, not coming around for collection anymore. What
- 45:56Speaker 4: they said they don't need to or they say they
- 46:00Speaker 4: said it wouldn't be as much.
- 46:03Speaker 3: Maybe they're taking like a week or two off, but
- 46:06Speaker 3: maybe I don't know. I meant on the other hand,
- 46:10Speaker 3: I'm holding fucking fruit I've never seen in the shoot
- 46:14Speaker 3: in my life. So maybe they're gonna start a major
- 46:17Speaker 3: fruit export company. I don't know what they got going
- 46:21Speaker 3: in that ship over there, but it's it's it's really
- 46:27Speaker 3: changing my morning.
- 46:29Speaker 4: Your little siblings, Dara and Jason Junior come over, both
- 46:34Speaker 4: just juice fruit juice just dripping off of their chins.
- 46:39Speaker 4: Jace Junior is only ten and Dara is I think
- 46:43Speaker 4: twelve or thirteen or fourteen or something thirteen. So they're
- 46:48Speaker 4: just like it's like that little kid thing where your
- 46:50Speaker 4: shirt is not sweat stained but just has like fruit
- 46:54Speaker 4: juice on it, and Jace has like a huge chunk
- 46:57Speaker 4: hole of like or watermelon rind.
- 47:01Speaker 3: Decadence. Jayson Jimmer, you're getting the good life. I at
- 47:06Speaker 3: your age had you know, crab apples with my breakfast.
- 47:11Speaker 3: No disrespect Mama, dad, but you live a charm life,
- 47:16Speaker 3: you little top.
- 47:18Speaker 4: Jimmy look and he like puts the watermelon rind like
- 47:21Speaker 4: in his mouth to make a big smile.
- 47:24Speaker 3: Gods, don't you choke, you idiot, My tussle his hair. Yeah,
- 47:33Speaker 3: I'm just enjoy and seeing people happy, seeing all these
- 47:38Speaker 3: seeing everybody everybody's kind of out. There's there's a buzz i.
- 47:43Speaker 3: Look around for my older sister. Do I see Leah anywhere?
- 47:47Speaker 3: Lee's not here today. Leah is at work. Okay, I'm
- 47:52Speaker 3: working a saturday. Jackie does wave you over. I hug
- 47:58Speaker 3: my sister, I say I love you, and I run
- 48:04Speaker 3: over to Jackie.
- 48:06Speaker 4: Hey, is there somewhere we could maybe talk without everybody
- 48:10Speaker 4: else around? Go up to your room. Yeah, we can
- 48:13Speaker 4: go to the pod. Oh, go to the pod. Okay, yeah, yeah,
- 48:17Speaker 4: I don't.
- 48:17Speaker 2: Want to be in mine. I don't know.
- 48:20Speaker 3: Well, like myke, communal living pod will be more private
- 48:23Speaker 3: than the house. You know, me and Jay share the bedroom.
- 48:26Speaker 3: Who knows?
- 48:27Speaker 1: All right?
- 48:27Speaker 4: All right, you guys head to the pod. And on
- 48:32Speaker 4: the way there, uh, you guys see just the celebration
- 48:35Speaker 4: in the shoot right now. A lot of a lot
- 48:38Speaker 4: of joyous happenings.
- 48:40Speaker 3: Fruit day, frud day, frud day. Tom is just trying
- 48:44Speaker 3: to start that as he runs. He is walking his
- 48:46Speaker 3: bike down the chute.
- 48:48Speaker 4: Yeah, it gets confused with fruit. What it gets confused
- 48:54Speaker 4: with shoot and fruit and hoot, there's a lot of
- 48:57Speaker 4: oots going around. You guys get to the pod and
- 49:01Speaker 4: Jackie says, hey, I got something to show you. You
- 49:04Speaker 4: know how you showed me that sash from everwing. Yeah, okay,
- 49:10Speaker 4: the New Babbel News isn't reporting much about this. But
- 49:15Speaker 4: she takes out the paper, which is the New Babel Tower.
- 49:19Speaker 4: But the Tower if you look through kind of some
- 49:21Speaker 4: of the back pages right here, and she pulls open
- 49:25Speaker 4: an article and you read it, skim over it. It says,
- 49:29Speaker 4: hidden from the cameras of New Babel News, they yet
- 49:33Speaker 4: again miss odd happenings in the city. Sporadic lightning strikes
- 49:38Speaker 4: that start too close to the ground, blue fire, shooting
- 49:42Speaker 4: stars streaking against the night, Rumors of a ghost hounding
- 49:46Speaker 4: criminals on the Upper east Side, a massive rhino man
- 49:50Speaker 4: fan found passed out and chained on the streets of Kono,
- 49:55Speaker 4: while the zoo in Sass reports a missing rhino and
- 49:59Speaker 4: a missing man.
- 50:05Speaker 1: What is going on.
- 50:06Speaker 2: In this city? By the day?
- 50:10Speaker 4: Yes, are the days of the Strange back? Are the
- 50:13Speaker 4: Evo's back? Why isn't this on New Babel News? And
- 50:17Speaker 4: then the there's a little picture there of a of
- 50:20Speaker 4: a blonde woman in a in like a trench coat
- 50:25Speaker 4: and uh the name Leslie Shaw. Jackie just says, can
- 50:30Speaker 4: you believe it? What's going on? You told me about
- 50:33Speaker 4: this old superhero thing. This is sounding like kind of
- 50:36Speaker 4: some superheroy stuff. I've been running the streets trying to
- 50:40Speaker 4: find more.
- 50:41Speaker 2: But Jackie, you gotta be safe girl. Oh no, I'm safe.
- 50:45Speaker 4: Well I've done this since we were kids, have been
- 50:48Speaker 4: looking for the raiths since we were really young.
- 50:50Speaker 2: I know. But it's just the two of us now. Well, yeah,
- 50:54Speaker 2: but I'm sorry.
- 50:56Speaker 3: I'm sorry to Today's Today's it's fruit day.
- 51:00Speaker 4: No, but I don't I think, I don't think Taylor's story,
- 51:04Speaker 4: jimiir makes us be safer. Taylor's story tells us that
- 51:14Speaker 4: the end could be any time, so why not try?
- 51:20Speaker 3: If there are these kind of things happening in the city,
- 51:28Speaker 3: I'm rooting for them because we need everything we got
- 51:34Speaker 3: to take down who's at the top. We need every
- 51:42Speaker 3: rhino that Zoo's got.
- 51:49Speaker 4: We cut over to Jason showing up at the library
- 51:58Speaker 4: Dallas skate skate on in.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Sorry, I'm late.
- 52:03Speaker 4: You see Arthur kind of stamping books at your desk,
- 52:07Speaker 4: either putting them away or greeting customers.
- 52:11Speaker 2: Jason, where where have you been? I was trying to
- 52:14Speaker 2: make coffee. I got it, I can, yeah here, don't
- 52:18Speaker 2: touch my stamp. That's my stamp. I got it. I
- 52:20Speaker 2: got it. I go, okay, fun.
- 52:22Speaker 4: He gets out of your way as you start your activities,
- 52:26Speaker 4: and he stands there with you.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Jason, I was wondering if we could talk. Yeah, yeah,
- 52:33Speaker 2: let's talk talking. Stamp time is money, you know.
- 52:35Speaker 1: What I mean?
- 52:37Speaker 2: Okay, what do you mean by that? Oh? Just you know,
- 52:43Speaker 2: I know how you and now you're a fan of
- 52:49Speaker 2: old rare books. I give a look, yeah, well, okay,
- 52:57Speaker 2: what do you mean? And then like as and I'm
- 53:00Speaker 2: like stamping piles of books, and I just take Jimmy
- 53:03Speaker 2: Or's grandmother's spellbook and like slide it across the desk
- 53:06Speaker 2: to him, like like mixed in with other books. But
- 53:09Speaker 2: that one, I'm just like whoo.
- 53:12Speaker 4: He starts flipping through it. Oh, Jason, where did you
- 53:17Speaker 4: get this? Don't worry about it, you can't. I just
- 53:24Speaker 4: borrowed it. We're in the business of borrowing books. It's
- 53:27Speaker 4: totally cool. I was hoping you might, uh might be
- 53:32Speaker 4: able to tell me a little bit about that. Jason.
- 53:38Speaker 4: Why do you why do you? Why must you play with?
- 53:41Speaker 4: Why must you play with the dangers that are trying
- 53:44Speaker 4: to hide from you, trying to hide from me?
- 53:47Speaker 1: What do you mean the.
- 53:49Speaker 4: Magics of this world have have buried themselves and you
- 53:53Speaker 4: are trying to dig them up. Well, yeah, I mean
- 53:57Speaker 4: knowledge is important, it shouldn't be lost.
- 54:00Speaker 2: Yes, of course I agree. I agree with that. You
- 54:04Speaker 2: know what to say. I mean, just smell that thing, dude,
- 54:07Speaker 2: smell the glue. It smells great. I don't know what
- 54:10Speaker 2: to say. It smells great. Have a library tastic day.
- 54:13Speaker 2: I say it like a patriot. It's like at the
- 54:15Speaker 2: front desk doing this, Jesson. We can talk about this,
- 54:20Speaker 2: not here, not now. I need to tell you something else. Okay,
- 54:25Speaker 2: I'm really old. What I won't be around much longer?
- 54:31Speaker 1: You know that? Oh shut up?
- 54:33Speaker 4: Come on, other than you, I only have two precious
- 54:36Speaker 4: things in this world, and when I'm gone, someone will
- 54:40Speaker 4: need to look after them.
- 54:43Speaker 2: Okay, I mean, I'm sure your pur cheesy said will
- 54:47Speaker 2: be fine.
- 54:49Speaker 4: I hope so. And he looks at you very sternly.
- 54:52Speaker 1: But what's the other thing?
- 54:54Speaker 2: No, the first one is the library. Oh yeah, I'll
- 54:58Speaker 2: take care of the library.
- 55:00Speaker 1: I updated my will last week.
- 55:03Speaker 2: It's going to you. What the library will be yours
- 55:07Speaker 2: when I'm gone. I don't I can't accept that. I
- 55:15Speaker 2: don't know who else I would give it to.
- 55:19Speaker 1: Have a library. Tastic day. Thank you.
- 55:22Speaker 4: It's always been a private library, but funded publicly. There
- 55:26Speaker 4: are parts of it that I own and parts of
- 55:28Speaker 4: it that the city owns. The city stopped giving money,
- 55:32Speaker 4: as you know, about four years ago, but a patron
- 55:37Speaker 4: has recently contacted me and wants to fund the continued
- 55:41Speaker 4: work of the Library's name is Henry hilland I don't
- 55:45Speaker 4: know if it's part of his I heard he was
- 55:47Speaker 4: running for mayor. I don't know if he's trying to
- 55:49Speaker 4: gain the votes in this sector of town, but either way,
- 55:55Speaker 4: that sounds like good news. I mean the library will
- 55:58Speaker 4: be funded.
- 55:59Speaker 2: Wow, okay, I mean that's great. That means I don't
- 56:03Speaker 2: have to turn to alternative sources. Yes, exactly, thank god.
- 56:12Speaker 2: And the other and more important thing is page right.
- 56:21Speaker 2: She's so smart and so strong, she'd be okay. She
- 56:27Speaker 2: just doesn't have any family but us. Her grandparents are
- 56:31Speaker 2: dead and her parents are both dead beats. She only
- 56:35Speaker 2: has us. And no matter how strong you are, you
- 56:39Speaker 2: can't make it by on your own.
- 56:42Speaker 4: And sometimes when you're as strong as she is, it's
- 56:44Speaker 4: harder to see that.
- 56:47Speaker 2: Sure, she'll need you, Okay, I don't know if she
- 56:50Speaker 2: would accept my help, but I can keep an eye
- 56:54Speaker 2: on her for the shadows. I still think you should
- 56:59Speaker 2: ask her out. Yeah, it's again, you haven't tried.
- 57:03Speaker 1: I feel like I've.
- 57:05Speaker 2: Set signals in a subtle, bookish way, and sometimes it's
- 57:10Speaker 2: hard to read subtle books.
- 57:12Speaker 1: Jason. Okay, cut to Quanta in walking back into Jamier's kitchen,
- 57:18Speaker 1: and there's just a giant mess that is anything else.
- 57:22Speaker 1: Coffee is dripping the ceiling just size and starts cleaning
- 57:25Speaker 1: up faces.
- 57:27Speaker 2: Well, maybe I'm maybe I am tired of subtle books,
- 57:31Speaker 2: having to read between the lines. Maybe maybe you tell
- 57:34Speaker 2: me what's really going up? Because you're so old, you're
- 57:40Speaker 2: gonna die any second.
- 57:45Speaker 4: I'm not ready. I'm not ready to have that conversation yet.
- 57:50Speaker 4: I'm trying. I'm trying. It's not easy for me. Well
- 57:56Speaker 4: what'll it take. I want to be open with you,
- 58:00Speaker 4: I want to be transparent, but.
- 58:04Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 58:04Speaker 2: I feel like we haven't really talked in a while.
- 58:08Speaker 4: Give me, give me another day, Okay, Ronnie, is there
- 58:22Speaker 4: other than walking around in the tunnel time tube Town
- 58:28Speaker 4: and tube time and shoot fruit what a hoot? And
- 58:32Speaker 4: cleaning up Jason's mess? Do you check in with anybody?
- 58:36Speaker 4: On this day. You don't have to just or is
- 58:39Speaker 4: there anything else you do? There's the womb you discovered,
- 58:43Speaker 4: you can go look at that.
- 58:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:45Speaker 1: Ronnie's got a lot on her mind with what her
- 58:47Speaker 1: dad has told her about his life and past, and
- 58:51Speaker 1: then learning about the church council and hearing herself say
- 58:59Speaker 1: out like, I've decided to to do this. I've decided
- 59:05Speaker 1: to make some wrongs right. And I think she will
- 59:12Speaker 1: follow the tunnels best she can to her apartment with
- 59:15Speaker 1: Jillian and head there.
- 59:19Speaker 2: Yeah. You open the door and Jillian is there.
- 59:24Speaker 1: Oh Jill, it's so good to see you.
- 59:27Speaker 2: Hey, Ronnie, what's up? Okay?
- 59:32Speaker 1: Once again?
- 59:32Speaker 4: No, yeah, of course, what's going on?
- 59:36Speaker 1: Oh, Jillian and I miss I miss when we would
- 59:39Speaker 1: just like move furniture around. That was like the big
- 59:43Speaker 1: thing of our day.
- 59:44Speaker 4: Yeah, it used to be really dramatic. Yeah, but there's
- 59:48Speaker 4: not time for that anymore. Really, huh.
- 59:51Speaker 1: No. I look around and see that she hasn't moved
- 59:53Speaker 1: anything around. What's wrong? I found my dad found my dad? Yeah?
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: With the with the other two.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: Oh yeah, okay, yeah, the Ghost, the paper Ghost and
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: star Boy star Boy.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: Yeah, they're actually now Scarecrow and Dorothy.
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: Scarecrow and Dorothy. No, that makes sense. I get that, okay, Yeah,
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: and you're the tin man.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: Yeah, sorry, No, it's it's it's what we all decide.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: It makes sense, it does. Yeah.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I know what I have to do. I want
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: to keep doing this. Uh but what I'm I'm just
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: I think I'm just gonna have to keep deciding to
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: do it. I thought like, once I decided to do it,
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: it would just I would just keep keep winning or
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: keep figuring things out, and it would I don't know how.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Sounds so silly to me now, but I think I
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: just have to keep deciding every day. Wow, how are you?
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: How's work? How has any How is anyone? And are
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: you safe? No?
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: Life is good. I mean there's a lot going down
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: where I work. I don't know if you saw the news,
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: but they got the space barge biodome up and running.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: No I didn't, I didn't see that.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: So they are giving in a lot of fruit and
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: vegetables homegrown here in the station, which is amazing. And
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: I you know, I've been worried about you. I've been
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: hanging out with Gabe here and there. He's a sweet kid. Yeah,
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: that's fun. Your Mom's call a lot.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: I know I'm kind of avoiding them, and I shouldn't
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: because I know they're so worried about me. I just
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: I know what they're gonna say, and that's exactly what
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: my dad just said. And I sound. I just keep
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: hearing myself today and I don't like it. I don't
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: like what I'm hearing. I don't like what I'm hearing
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: for myself.
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: What well can I tell you what I just heard?
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: Sure?
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: Shoot, you just said that every day you're willing to
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: choose to try to save this city. And that's amazing.
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: That's selfless. And you don't have to listen. Take the
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: weight off. You're not God anymore. You don't have to
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: be God to this place. You don't have to save everyone.
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: Just if you keep doing it like you said, every day,
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: choosing to save someone here or there when you can,
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: that's got to be enough. I'm I'm making chicken tonight,
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: Lemon chicken. You're gonna eat it, okay, and it's gonna
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: be great.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: I do my best to shut off, being able to
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: sense everyone in the apartment complex for the night with Jillian.
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: As we get to kind of mid afternoon, Jamiir there's
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: a radio buzzing in your pod. You're standing there with Jackie.
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: Jackie goes to turn it up as you hear some
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: panicked sounds. Clank Industries is under attack. What we think
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: is a man is changing form. He's been seen with
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: bare arms, a giant lizard tail, buzzing wings, attacking the factory.
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: He's smashing down walls. The power is astounding.
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: Jackie looks at you. Cool, except if you work at
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: that factory. We got to go tell people to get
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: said help.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: What are we gonna do? I don't know.
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: Find find some members of the core gag, have them
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: go down there. There's there's workers there that probably shooters
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: that need help help. Jamir jumps out of the CLP
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: hops on his bike and speeds off.
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: Jackie follows you down and just as you're speeding off,
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: Jimmiir wait and you tumble through the shoot.
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: Yeah, Jamir's Jamir's trying to try to duck into a
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: tunnel and get toward that action.
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: Ronnie, you and Jillian, as you're eating lemon chicken start
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: flipping through the TV. She's like, I've seen this so
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: many times, and she switches to a news channel. Briefly
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: and stops New Babbel News reporting a monstrous anomaly attack
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: on Clank Industries on the northeast side of town. If
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: you live in Nebraska, please stay inside. There is great
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: danger to civilians. The city has not seen a disastrous
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: event of this magnitude since the days of the Evos.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: And you see some footage of a monster tentacles wings,
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: smashing into the building and screaming, George Lson, Holy shit, Jill.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: I think I think I'm gonna have to reheat my chicken.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: I pull on my botaclava and open a window. Run
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: a couple blocks before I lightning strike. So it's away
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: from Jillian's apartment.
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: Jason, you stand here with Arthur in this uncomfortable moment,
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: trying to find each other, when all of a sudden,
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: doors burst open and people come running in. One of
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: them comes up to the desk to you and Arthur.
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: We've been told to get off the streets. The Clank
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: Industry's factory is under attack. It's just a few blocks away.
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: Can we stay here? That there's a monster. I don't
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: know how else to describe it. I saw it a monster.
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: I think people have died. I think it's killed people.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: Cool.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: I mean, as the future owner of the library, take
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: refuge here, friend, have a library tastic day, Arthur, I'm
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: gonna go.
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: To the bathroom to you, knowing what that means, and
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: just says, be careful son, all.
- 1:07:05Speaker 6: The people just yeah, I put my hand genuinely managed it.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: I will oh gosh, I run out the door, skate
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: skating towards a towards the action.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: Power.
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: Power is a gift, Power is a choice. Power is
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: the great test. People say, if you really want to
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: know someone, look at their friends. I think, if you
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: really want to know someone, give them a little bit
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: of power. It strips away the illusions, the masks and
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: the fronts. It reveals, without all the pomp and circumstance
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: of society, if someone will allow themselves to be a
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: part of humanity by giving of themselves to those in need,
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: or if they will give up their humanity, take the
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: power and turn monster, separating themselves from those that could
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: benefit from what they've been given. Three weary warriors who
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: have been gifted significant power now rush to danger and death.
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: They will not turn monster. They will stand united with
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: their fellows and give of themselves what others cannot Paper
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: flutters beneath the movement of its master, Electricity flows and
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: hums around its ambassador, and Starfire sings for the one
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: who calls it. As you head to this battle of
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: the unknown, let's level up.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: Fun.
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: We'll talk about leveling up on the chat cave.
