- 0:27Speaker 1: Jeff Duncan had a report over at NOLA dot com.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Times Picky Uni tweeted about it, as well as about
- 0:33Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers. He noted, no surprise here, but Aaron Rodgers
- 0:37Speaker 1: never really was a consideration for the Saints in wake
- 0:39Speaker 1: of the Derek Carr retirement. At their current stages, they
- 0:42Speaker 1: don't make sense for him, and he doesn't make sense
- 0:45Speaker 1: for them. Again, a report from Jeff Duncan. I can't
- 0:48Speaker 1: say that that's terribly surprising, but I'm probably gonna zig
- 0:53Speaker 1: on this when most are gonna zag, and I promise
- 0:55Speaker 1: you I'm not doing this just for the sake of
- 0:57Speaker 1: being a contrarian. I would actually really like the idea
- 1:03Speaker 1: of Aaron Rodgers to the New Orleans Saints for a
- 1:07Speaker 1: couple of reasons, and I will tell you primarily that
- 1:10Speaker 1: reason is because of something Aaron Rodgers was pretty vocal
- 1:14Speaker 1: about whenever green Bay drafted Jordan Love. He recalled when
- 1:23Speaker 1: green Bay drafted him, and now Brett Farr maybe wasn't
- 1:26Speaker 1: the best veteran leader to he to Aaron Rodgers, and
- 1:31Speaker 1: as a result, he didn't want to treat Jordan Love
- 1:34Speaker 1: that way. He wanted to welcome into the NFL Mentorman
- 1:36Speaker 1: help him. And I look at the Saints current quarterback
- 1:41Speaker 1: situation and you got three guys on the roster that
- 1:44Speaker 1: have a combined zero NFL wins. Aaron Rodgers has won
- 1:51Speaker 1: more MVPs than they collectively have wins. He's won a
- 1:55Speaker 1: super Bowl, He's a future Hall of Famer. I understand
- 2:00Speaker 1: fully all of the everything that goes along with Aaron
- 2:05Speaker 1: Rodgers going on McAfee's show, the Silent retreats, all the stuff,
- 2:10Speaker 1: the cleansing, all of it right, different kind of cat
- 2:14Speaker 1: went to Berkeley. I get it, not here to judge game.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Jordan went to Berkeley. He's been five So I understand
- 2:23Speaker 1: all of the I understand all of the detractors. But
- 2:29Speaker 1: I would also look and say, can we objectively look
- 2:32Speaker 1: at what we what we think, we feel, and how
- 2:37Speaker 1: he might actually be perceived in a locker room, not
- 2:39Speaker 1: by front office or anything like that. But I look
- 2:44Speaker 1: at Aaron Rodgers and I say, here's a guy that, yes,
- 2:48Speaker 1: it is forty one years old, and I do not
- 2:51Speaker 1: think is going to win a Super Bowl. So, just
- 2:53Speaker 1: to be very clear, I'm not suggesting that for New
- 2:56Speaker 1: Orleans bringing in Aaron Rodgers would make you a contender.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I'm not saying that because I don't think that's the case.
- 3:02Speaker 1: And to be very clear, I think if the New
- 3:05Speaker 1: Orleans say, if Aaron Rodgers wants to go still play
- 3:08Speaker 1: to win, which I presume is the only way he
- 3:10Speaker 1: would play, he would go to some place like Pittsburgh
- 3:13Speaker 1: where you had a ready made playoff roster, which New
- 3:16Speaker 1: Orleans does not have. It's not my opinion, that's the
- 3:19Speaker 1: shared opinion of everybody. You can look at Vegas, who
- 3:21Speaker 1: has the Saints pegged over under four and a half wins.
- 3:24Speaker 1: You bring in Aaron Rodgers, Let's say he's good for
- 3:25Speaker 1: three wins. Okay, so now you're at seven and a half.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So he's good for four wins, you're an eight and
- 3:29Speaker 1: a half, You're still not a playoff team. So Aaron
- 3:32Speaker 1: Rodgers doesn't coming it would not make you a playoff team.
- 3:35Speaker 1: He played seventeen games last year for the Jets, they
- 3:37Speaker 1: won five games. That's not why you would bring in
- 3:42Speaker 1: someone like this to bring to make you a contender.
- 3:44Speaker 1: It is strictly to provide a bridge so you don't
- 3:49Speaker 1: put so much on a young quarterback room so early,
- 3:54Speaker 1: and also to have them give them the opportunity to learn.
- 3:59Speaker 1: For I'm an MVP, a Hall of Famer. It's kind
- 4:02Speaker 1: of the same reason why you brought in Jameis Winston
- 4:05Speaker 1: to sit behind Drew Brees for a year. Come sit,
- 4:10Speaker 1: watch learn, be better for it, and maybe that could
- 4:14Speaker 1: be the solution. Now, clearly the Saints aren't interested. And
- 4:17Speaker 1: by the way the financial component works as well, Aaron
- 4:20Speaker 1: Rodgers said he would be willing to play this year
- 4:21Speaker 1: for ten million bucks. Considering what you owe Derek Carr
- 4:25Speaker 1: not only this year, but the thirty one million that'll
- 4:27Speaker 1: be on the cap for next year in dead money,
- 4:30Speaker 1: having a starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers ilt for ten million
- 4:33Speaker 1: bucks makes a lot of sense. Again, I want to
- 4:35Speaker 1: be so clear. I'm not arguing go get Aaron Rodgers
- 4:38Speaker 1: because it's going to help you win. I'm saying I
- 4:41Speaker 1: wouldn't be opposed to Aaron Rodgers because it stabilizes you
- 4:45Speaker 1: and provides a bridge while you rebuild the roster, and
- 4:48Speaker 1: you don't have all like you don't potentially ruin your
- 4:50Speaker 1: young quarterbacks by dumping so much on them so early.
- 4:54Speaker 1: You let them do what Rogers had the ability to do,
- 4:58Speaker 1: which was sit behind Brett Fahr. With Jordan Love had
- 5:00Speaker 1: the ability to do, which is sit behind Aaron Rodgers
- 5:03Speaker 1: with Patrick Mahomes had the ability to do was to
- 5:05Speaker 1: sit for a year behind Alex Smith and then take over.
- 5:08Speaker 1: And by the way, in his second year as a starter,
- 5:10Speaker 1: they won a Super Bowl. I don't know what the
- 5:12Speaker 1: future is gonna hold with Tyler Shuck. What I do believe, though,
- 5:15Speaker 1: is if you have the luxury of not putting so
- 5:18Speaker 1: much on a rookie quarterback from jump, that's a good thing.
- 5:20Speaker 1: It's why I've advocated for the Saints bringing in a
- 5:22Speaker 1: veteran quarterback. And maybe it's Teddy Bridgewater, or maybe it's
- 5:25Speaker 1: Carson Wentz, or maybe you wait and see it, or
- 5:27Speaker 1: maybe you trade for Jamis Winston because they've got Jamis
- 5:30Speaker 1: Russ and they drafted Jackson Dart. All three of those
- 5:32Speaker 1: guys aren't gonna be on the roster week one. Maybe
- 5:34Speaker 1: it's Cleveland where they got Flacco and Deshaun Watson and
- 5:37Speaker 1: Kenny Pickett and they drafted Dylan Gabriel and Shoulder. All
- 5:40Speaker 1: five of those guys aren't making the team. Maybe the
- 5:42Speaker 1: better option will be somewhere down the line of veteran
- 5:44Speaker 1: quarterback like one of the ones I just mentioned, becomes
- 5:46Speaker 1: a free agent and you can add them, and maybe
- 5:48Speaker 1: that's a better solution for you. Maybe it is. Maybe
- 5:50Speaker 1: it's Teddy Bridgewater. But I wouldn't slam the door on
- 5:52Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers just because he does darkness, retreats and goes
- 5:55Speaker 1: on McAfee and you don't like him. I think there's
- 5:57Speaker 1: a lot of things chew like about the possibility of
- 6:01Speaker 1: of adding Aaron Rodgers, but according to Jeff Ungkin's report,
- 6:03Speaker 1: it doesn't seem like that's a possibility never was a possibility,
- 6:07Speaker 1: although I think it's something they probably should have considered,
- 6:09Speaker 1: and if you can make it work, should do. But
- 6:11Speaker 1: if Aaron Rodgers is looking to win. If he's going
- 6:13Speaker 1: to keep playing because he wants to win, New Orleans
- 6:16Speaker 1: definitely is the best seat for him because New Orleans
- 6:18Speaker 1: isn't winning much of anything in twenty twenty five. It's
- 6:22Speaker 1: just about hitting that reset button organizationally to get toward
- 6:26Speaker 1: twenty six and beyond.
