Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: We are back up and running on the latest edition
- 0:12Speaker 1: of Birds Weekly, presented by the Inside the Birds Network.
- 0:16Speaker 1: For Ray Dittinger, I'm Derek Gunn and Eagles are coming
- 0:19Speaker 1: out of their bye week and it's time to get
- 0:20Speaker 1: back to work for a rigorous schedule that lies ahead.
- 0:23Speaker 1: But they didn't stay idle over there by, did they?
- 0:26Speaker 1: And you know, Howie Roseman being Howie Roseman, My goodness,
- 0:30Speaker 1: it all starts. He goes out and get a cornerback
- 0:32Speaker 1: and Michael Carter. Then over the weekend he decides to
- 0:35Speaker 1: add another corner and he picks up JayR Alexander from Baltimore.
- 0:40Speaker 1: And oh, by the way, just Monday morning, word spread
- 0:44Speaker 1: spreads rapidly that he also has added a edge rusher
- 0:47Speaker 1: in in Jalen Phillips and and Ray we know how
- 0:51Speaker 1: he is not one to sit still, But all I
- 0:55Speaker 1: can say is wow in terms of how he's adding
- 0:58Speaker 1: defensive help to get ready for the has nine games
- 1:00Speaker 1: of the season.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I mean, it might have been a bye
- 1:04Speaker 2: week for everybody else, but it wasn't a bye week
- 1:06Speaker 2: for the general manager was.
- 1:08Speaker 3: He was hard at work, as he always is.
- 1:11Speaker 2: And that's one of the things about Howie I mean
- 1:13Speaker 2: he's you know, he's never a guy that just sort
- 1:15Speaker 2: of sits back and says we're good, you know. I mean,
- 1:18Speaker 2: he's always scanning the board. He's always looking around the
- 1:22Speaker 2: leg to see if there's somebody out there that could
- 1:24Speaker 2: come in and help in a particular area. And look,
- 1:29Speaker 2: I think we talked about it. Everybody talked about it,
- 1:32Speaker 2: that this team they needed help at that other corner.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Yep, it's been true from week one. Heck has been.
- 1:40Speaker 2: True since the summer, to be honest with you. And
- 1:45Speaker 2: the thing that has been another problem is getting consistent
- 1:49Speaker 2: pass rush. Finding a pass rush off the edges just
- 1:53Speaker 2: hasn't has not been there. And so okay, he addressed
- 1:57Speaker 2: both of them right now.
- 1:58Speaker 3: And I know.
- 2:01Speaker 2: There was the pie in the sky conversation about Miles Garrett.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I know there was the pie in the sky conversation
- 2:08Speaker 2: about Trey Hendrickson. Who are elite players at the pass
- 2:13Speaker 2: rush position. But you and I talked about it. I mean,
- 2:16Speaker 2: it wasn't going to happen. I mean the price, the
- 2:19Speaker 2: price that you were going to be I mean you're
- 2:21Speaker 2: talking about two first rounders, three first rounders.
- 2:24Speaker 3: That wasn't going to happen.
- 2:25Speaker 2: But the need was still real, and so how he
- 2:28Speaker 2: went out and you know, and made the deal for
- 2:31Speaker 2: Jalen Phillips, who's a former first round draft pick of
- 2:35Speaker 2: the Dolphins and a guy who has shown when he's
- 2:39Speaker 2: been healthy that he is a very good pass rusher.
- 2:43Speaker 2: And now the Eagles bring him in here and add
- 2:45Speaker 2: him to the mix with the return of Brandon Graham
- 2:47Speaker 2: and hopefully you're you're a better team now going into
- 2:52Speaker 2: the second half of the year than you were two
- 2:54Speaker 2: weeks ago.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Phillips sixty five two hundred and sixty five pounds. He
- 2:58Speaker 1: has three sacks this year, twenty five tackles. Ray, You're right,
- 3:04Speaker 1: coming off it edge. He will definitely be an upgrade
- 3:07Speaker 1: if he can stay healthy. But go back a few years.
- 3:11Speaker 1: You did a scouting report on him the year he
- 3:14Speaker 1: came out of college, And what did your scouting report
- 3:16Speaker 1: tell you about him?
- 3:18Speaker 2: Well, I went back and I save all of these
- 3:20Speaker 2: things I know you do, and they come in handy.
- 3:24Speaker 3: I went back and I still had my twenty twenty
- 3:26Speaker 3: one notes when he came.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Out, and I had him as my number two pass
- 3:35Speaker 2: rusher in that entire draft. I had Greg Gregory Rousseau
- 3:39Speaker 2: was my number one, but I had Phelips with my
- 3:42Speaker 2: number two. And even then, even then, the only question
- 3:47Speaker 2: about him was was the injury factor?
- 3:50Speaker 3: Yeah, he had, he had had.
- 3:51Speaker 2: He had started his college career at UCLA, finished up
- 3:55Speaker 2: at Miami and had a broken wrist.
- 4:00Speaker 3: He had a knee injury. He had.
- 4:06Speaker 2: This was I had forgotten this until I went back
- 4:09Speaker 2: and reread my notes. But he had multiple multiple concussions
- 4:16Speaker 2: when he was at UCLA, to the point where the
- 4:21Speaker 2: doctors who examined him urged him to not play football anymore.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Now that's now, that's going back to UCLA, and he said, no,
- 4:31Speaker 2: I want to keep playing. And he did keep playing,
- 4:33Speaker 2: transferred to Miami, played very well and worked his way
- 4:36Speaker 2: up to where he was the eighteenth overall.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Pick in that draft. Coming out, I mean an elite player.
- 4:42Speaker 2: And if you look back, and I went back to
- 4:44Speaker 2: my notes from the Combine workout, here's a guy who's
- 4:47Speaker 2: sixty five two hundred and sixty pounds ran a four
- 4:51Speaker 2: five with a thirty six inch vertical.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I mean a rare athlete, without question.
- 4:59Speaker 2: But then he came into the NFL and the injury
- 5:02Speaker 2: problems continued. Knee injury tourn Achilles. It's been when he's
- 5:08Speaker 2: been able to play, and when he's been healthy, he's
- 5:11Speaker 2: been a productive player and a very good pass rusher
- 5:14Speaker 2: with a lot of natural skills, learned how to use
- 5:16Speaker 2: his hands. Is extremely quick off the edge, but is
- 5:21Speaker 2: actually very effective slanting inside on loops and stunts. If
- 5:26Speaker 2: you can get him looping inside and a guy with
- 5:29Speaker 2: his athletic ability matched up on like an interior lineman,
- 5:33Speaker 2: he'll win that all the time. And that's how he's
- 5:36Speaker 2: been used, real versatile. But the problem has been dealing
- 5:40Speaker 2: with the injuries. Now he's been healthy this year and
- 5:44Speaker 2: one of the things that if you're an Eagles fan
- 5:46Speaker 2: you got to feel good about is he's coming in
- 5:47Speaker 2: here playing good football right now. I mean his three
- 5:50Speaker 2: sacks were in his last four games, had twenty quarterback
- 5:55Speaker 2: hurries in that time. He's coming in right now, play
- 5:59Speaker 2: healthy and playing well. And if he can continue to
- 6:02Speaker 2: do that, and look, Vic Fangio knows them because Vic
- 6:05Speaker 2: coached he was a defense corner in Miami a couple
- 6:09Speaker 2: of years ago when this kid was playing, So Vic
- 6:13Speaker 2: knows him, he knows his strengths, knows his weaknesses. Uh,
- 6:16Speaker 2: and probably already has and you know, Vic signed off
- 6:18Speaker 2: on this, so that tells you he has already has
- 6:21Speaker 2: a pretty good idea of how he wants to play
- 6:23Speaker 2: this guy, and if he can stay healthy, he can
- 6:27Speaker 2: improve you in an area where you need improvement.
- 6:29Speaker 1: My goodness. Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and now Jalen Phillips.
- 6:36Speaker 1: What a formidable defensive front compared to what they had
- 6:39Speaker 1: the first eight games of the season. Now we also
- 6:41Speaker 1: knew they needed significant help on the back end of
- 6:44Speaker 1: this defense. Uh, they go out last week and get
- 6:47Speaker 1: Michael Carter from the Jets, and then over the weekend
- 6:50Speaker 1: they had an interesting one in Zaire Alexander and Ray.
- 6:54Speaker 1: I'm from the great state of Wisconsin, as you know,
- 6:57Speaker 1: and born and raised in Milwaukee. So I followed the
- 6:59Speaker 1: Packers my whole life, and you know, from my perspective, right,
- 7:03Speaker 1: it's somewhat perplexed. And they added him, and so I
- 7:06Speaker 1: reached out to a couple of people in the know
- 7:08Speaker 1: in the organization and I said, why him? And they
- 7:12Speaker 1: told me that they're bringing him in to see if
- 7:13Speaker 1: he has anything left. Now, he had a knee injury.
- 7:17Speaker 1: In the last few years, he's been injury prone. He
- 7:20Speaker 1: had a knee injury in training camp with the Ravens.
- 7:22Speaker 1: He only played two games with the Ravens and the
- 7:25Speaker 1: Ravens decided to let him go. Were you surprised that
- 7:29Speaker 1: they decided at Alexander? I mean, even though we knew
- 7:32Speaker 1: they needed additional help on that back end.
- 7:36Speaker 2: No, it's just it's just it's just taking a shot,
- 7:39Speaker 2: that's it. I mean, and it may it may end
- 7:42Speaker 2: up being nothing. I mean, the Eagles have had and
- 7:45Speaker 2: how he has done some stuff at the trade deadline
- 7:48Speaker 2: in past years that.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Kind of went nowhere, you know.
- 7:52Speaker 2: I mean, you know, Robert Quinn had was a guy
- 7:56Speaker 2: who had history, had had some success as a pass rusher,
- 7:59Speaker 2: became here and gave you nothing, uh, you know, and
- 8:03Speaker 2: also in the defense, in the defensive secondary. And Kevin Byard,
- 8:08Speaker 2: remember they got him at the trade deadline a couple
- 8:10Speaker 2: of years ago, a guy that similar background, had been
- 8:13Speaker 2: to Pro Bowls, had been a really good player.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Bring him in, he'll probably help us. Not really, you
- 8:19Speaker 3: just never know.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I mean, sometimes these guys come in and have real impact, uh,
- 8:24Speaker 2: and then other times guys that move at the trade
- 8:27Speaker 2: deadline generally are these kinds of guys you know that
- 8:29Speaker 2: there are some issues and you're just hoping that maybe
- 8:32Speaker 2: change the scenery, different coaching system, different philosophy. He can,
- 8:37Speaker 2: you know, he can tap into the talent that the
- 8:39Speaker 2: guy had at one time. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
- 8:42Speaker 2: But I think the Eagles look, the Eagles looking around
- 8:45Speaker 2: right now, and they see where they are. They're six
- 8:47Speaker 2: and two, They're right in smack in the middle of
- 8:51Speaker 2: a wide, wide open NFL. They have a shot, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 2: and the two areas, the two areas that they needed
- 8:59Speaker 2: help was they needed to find somebody who can help
- 9:02Speaker 2: out on the corner to shore up that area, and
- 9:06Speaker 2: they needed another pass rusher, and there were no sure
- 9:11Speaker 2: things out there. But they're willing to take the shot.
- 9:13Speaker 2: And now, you know, now you just sit back and
- 9:15Speaker 2: see Phillips. I'm encouraged by the fact that that he
- 9:20Speaker 2: has been playing this year, has been playing well and
- 9:23Speaker 2: right now, coming in and coming into this stretch, was
- 9:26Speaker 2: playing his best football. And if he could come here
- 9:29Speaker 2: and continue to play that way. In his defense, yeah,
- 9:33Speaker 2: I mean, you're looking at a defensive line. Let's face it,
- 9:35Speaker 2: if they could they could line up in Green Bay
- 9:41Speaker 2: with all number ones on that defensive line Carter's a
- 9:45Speaker 2: number one, Davis number one.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Phillips was a number one BG coming back, he was
- 9:50Speaker 3: a number one. Yeah.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I mean you could be lining up next Monday night
- 9:53Speaker 2: with four first round draft picks and maybe they played
- 9:57Speaker 2: to their pedigree.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Hey it's Jeff Mosher. If you have a family and
- 10:01Speaker 4: kids at home, like me, you always want them to
- 10:03Speaker 4: be fully protected. That's why I'm thrilled to be a

- 10:09Speaker 4: most technologically advanced alarm system you can get. If you
- 10:12Speaker 4: could actually stop someone from breaking into your home before
- 10:15Speaker 4: they got inside, why wouldn't you. Traditional security systems only
- 10:19Speaker 4: react after a break in, But simply Safe is different
- 10:22Speaker 4: because it stops crimes before they happen. With active guard
- 10:26Speaker 4: outdoor protection, they're AI powered cameras detect threats while they're
- 10:31Speaker 4: still outside your home, and they alert real security agents.
- 10:34Speaker 4: These agents take action while the intruder is still outside
- 10:38Speaker 4: and confront the intruder to let them know they're being
- 10:40Speaker 4: watched on camera and police is on the way. And
- 10:43Speaker 4: that's how you stop a crime before it's committed. There's

- 11:02Speaker 4: off a simply Safe home security system at simplysafe dot
- 11:06Speaker 4: com slash bird. That's simplysafe dot com slash bird.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Well, right, if Carter works out and if Alexander sticks,
- 11:15Speaker 1: that means Eagles have like eight or nine defensive backs.
- 11:18Speaker 1: They're not keeping all of them. So who's the odd
- 11:20Speaker 1: man or odd man out? So to speak? I would
- 11:23Speaker 1: imagine we start with Dori Jackson being one of the
- 11:26Speaker 1: odd men out.
- 11:28Speaker 3: That's what I would guess. I mean, they don't.
- 11:31Speaker 2: I don't think you want to give up on Ringo
- 11:33Speaker 2: at this point because he's young and he certainly is talented.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I mean, we all agree on that he just needs development,
- 11:41Speaker 2: he just needs to improve. But you know, Dori Jackson
- 11:44Speaker 2: at this point is a guy who's bounced around, been
- 11:46Speaker 2: with multiple teams. A dory kind of is what he is,
- 11:50Speaker 2: you know, And whereas Ringo, I think they still have
- 11:53Speaker 2: and realistically, I don't blame them for thinking this has
- 11:56Speaker 2: a chance to get better.
- 11:58Speaker 3: And you know what I mean this. I don't want
- 12:01Speaker 3: this to sound like wishful thinking, but I mean, if
- 12:03Speaker 3: you go back.
- 12:04Speaker 2: And you look at the tape of the Giants game,
- 12:07Speaker 2: I thought Ringo played pretty good when he was on
- 12:10Speaker 2: the field. I thought this was just looking at it objectile.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I thought that was encouraging that now the Giants don't
- 12:18Speaker 2: have you know, I mean, he wasn't playing against CDEE
- 12:21Speaker 2: lamb or he wasn't.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Playing against elite receivers in that game.
- 12:25Speaker 2: But I thought that he looked he looked better in
- 12:29Speaker 2: the last game than he had before. So yeah, if
- 12:32Speaker 2: there's an odd man out, it would probably be a
- 12:34Speaker 2: Dori Jackson.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Well.
- 12:36Speaker 1: The Eagles are now preparing to face the the Green
- 12:39Speaker 1: Bay Packers on Monday Night Football at lambeau Field, Historic
- 12:44Speaker 1: at lambeau Field and Ray. This Packers team, I just
- 12:49Speaker 1: can't figure out they they they lose on Sunday to
- 12:55Speaker 1: a team in Carolina. They should have beaten up and
- 12:57Speaker 1: down the field. They outgained them in yards. They were
- 13:01Speaker 1: one for five in the red zone. You're not gonna
- 13:03Speaker 1: win many football games if you can't convert in the
- 13:05Speaker 1: red zone. But they've lost to Cleveland by three points
- 13:08Speaker 1: and now Carolina by three points, and Ray, do we
- 13:11Speaker 1: over estimate how talented the Packers could be? I mean,
- 13:17Speaker 1: they take Pittsburgh to the woodshit in the second half
- 13:21Speaker 1: of that game. A week ago, Pittsburgh turns around and
- 13:24Speaker 1: beats Indianapolis on a crazy NFL Sunday where we saw
- 13:28Speaker 1: the Colts, the Lions, and the Packers all lose. Do
- 13:32Speaker 1: we overestimate this Packers team, which is still the youngest
- 13:36Speaker 1: overall roster in the National Football League.
- 13:39Speaker 3: I think that's kind of it.
- 13:40Speaker 2: I think they're a very talented team, but they are
- 13:45Speaker 2: very young, and I think sometimes young teams have.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Highs and lows. Yeah, and maybe I was kind of
- 13:55Speaker 3: with you. I think when you.
- 13:56Speaker 2: And I talked week one, looking down that long road
- 14:01Speaker 2: of the season about where it was all headed.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Eagles are the defending.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Champs, but we both we kicked around the question of
- 14:08Speaker 2: who's their biggest threat the NFC, and I said the Packers.
- 14:13Speaker 2: I really did, because just the talent on the roster
- 14:16Speaker 2: was I mean, they've got a lot of really good players,
- 14:19Speaker 2: and you're projecting how much Jordan Love is going to
- 14:23Speaker 2: improve and develop over the course of the season. That's
- 14:25Speaker 2: kind of a projection, but I kind of felt very strongly.
- 14:30Speaker 3: About the defense.
- 14:31Speaker 2: It's a young, fast, physical defense, and you add Micah
- 14:35Speaker 2: Parsons to it. To me, the Packers were the most
- 14:39Speaker 2: dangerous team and they may yet still be, but I
- 14:42Speaker 2: think because of their youth, they're going to have these
- 14:45Speaker 2: periods of inconsistency.
- 14:47Speaker 3: And boy, did you see it yesterday? Oh my goodness.
- 14:50Speaker 3: I mean, how in the world as a two touchdown
- 14:53Speaker 3: favorite playing at home that. I mean, it was almost
- 14:57Speaker 3: a no show kind of game. I mean it really was.
- 14:59Speaker 3: I mean I didn't even know Michael Parsons suited up
- 15:02Speaker 3: for this game.
- 15:03Speaker 2: I can agree with you more and and you would
- 15:07Speaker 2: have thought going into it that this was a game
- 15:09Speaker 2: that he would dominate and it was a total no show.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Now we both know Michael Parsons well enough to know
- 15:16Speaker 2: that he's going to show up for Monday night football,
- 15:20Speaker 2: you know, when the lights come on.
- 15:22Speaker 3: He's that kind of player, So you're not going to
- 15:24Speaker 3: get that. And plus he's.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Getting burned pretty big time out there in the media
- 15:27Speaker 2: for playing as poorly as he did, so he's going
- 15:30Speaker 2: to definitely show up ready to play in that game.
- 15:32Speaker 2: But I still did we overestimate that we oversell the Packers.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I guess I'm guilty of it because I did say
- 15:39Speaker 2: I thought they were the biggest threat to the Eagles,
- 15:41Speaker 2: and they may yet prove to be. But what you
- 15:44Speaker 2: saw yesterday losing at home, is a two touchdown favorite
- 15:47Speaker 2: to the Carolina Panthers.
- 15:48Speaker 3: That's listen.
- 15:50Speaker 2: There's a lot of criticism being directed at Matt Lafleur, yes,
- 15:56Speaker 2: by the Packer people. You know, Packer Nation is not
- 15:59Speaker 2: at all happy with the head coach right now, and
- 16:01Speaker 2: there's a lot of that chatter out there. So the
- 16:05Speaker 2: people in Green Bay, the Packer fans, and there's a
- 16:07Speaker 2: lot of them.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Heck, you were one at one time.
- 16:10Speaker 2: They take this stuff pretty personal and they're unhappy with
- 16:14Speaker 2: where the Packers are right now, losing that game because
- 16:17Speaker 2: I think they too expected more.
- 16:19Speaker 1: You know, I watched Laflor's press conference on Sunday and
- 16:23Speaker 1: one of the first things he said was certain play
- 16:26Speaker 1: calling was on him. You know this, this Packers team
- 16:29Speaker 1: seems that can't get away from these these bubble screens
- 16:32Speaker 1: and they're not working in a lot of cases. And
- 16:36Speaker 1: it has been an outcry and Packers Nation for quite
- 16:38Speaker 1: some time. That let Matt Lafleur, with his conservative approach
- 16:42Speaker 1: to office of play calling is the reason why the
- 16:45Speaker 1: Packers have not taken that next step to the next level.
- 16:48Speaker 1: And now people are just just screaming take the play
- 16:53Speaker 1: calling away from Lafloor.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Well, right, as we all know.
- 16:56Speaker 1: If your head coach is a play caller and he's
- 16:58Speaker 1: hand company offense, I don't care what's talent you have,
- 17:01Speaker 1: it ain't going anywhere.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Yep, exactly right, exactly right. And this was a game
- 17:08Speaker 2: where you know, they moved the ball. I mean they
- 17:10Speaker 2: had they had almost four hundred yards total offense. But
- 17:13Speaker 2: you said it earlier. Was they they got down inside
- 17:16Speaker 2: the twenty and just stalled out. You know, they settled
- 17:18Speaker 2: for a couple of field goals, turned the ball over
- 17:21Speaker 2: on downs once and then just turned it over another time.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Because and and Love made Love is a very talented player.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I mean he really is. You watch him on a
- 17:32Speaker 2: day when he's when he's feeling it and he's got
- 17:35Speaker 2: it going, man, he'll just stand in that pocket, he
- 17:38Speaker 2: will throw darts, you know, and but then he'll have
- 17:41Speaker 2: these other times where he just he just I don't
- 17:44Speaker 2: say it's regressing, but he just kind of like loses
- 17:48Speaker 2: his feel out there and he does stop seeing the
- 17:50Speaker 2: field for some reason, or he starts to force things.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Uh.
- 17:54Speaker 2: And the interception that he threw, the deep ball interception
- 17:57Speaker 2: that he.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Threw, is that.
- 17:59Speaker 2: I mean, that's one. It just has you shaken your head,
- 18:01Speaker 2: like what are you thinking? You know, you can't throw
- 18:04Speaker 2: that ball, you know, And that's when you're a rookie
- 18:07Speaker 2: and you make that mistake. Okay, you write it off
- 18:09Speaker 2: as a rookie mistake, but at this point in his career,
- 18:13Speaker 2: he shouldn't be still making those throws, but yet he does.
- 18:17Speaker 2: But is the talent there. There's no question the talent's there,
- 18:20Speaker 2: and the Eagles are going to if he were going
- 18:23Speaker 2: to win this game. And I still think I still
- 18:25Speaker 2: think it's going to be a really tough game for
- 18:27Speaker 2: the Eagles, I really do. And Packers aren't going to
- 18:29Speaker 2: play that badly two weeks in a row at home.
- 18:31Speaker 2: That ain't that ain't happening. But there they're going to
- 18:35Speaker 2: have to find a way to get pressure on Jordan
- 18:39Speaker 2: Love because if they let him feel comfortable in the pocket,
- 18:42Speaker 2: you could be in for a real long night.
- 18:45Speaker 1: He cannot get away from that rainbow ball, the deep
- 18:49Speaker 1: ball you're talking about.
- 18:50Speaker 3: He throws it in triple coverage.
- 18:52Speaker 1: You have to be smarter than that, and he under
- 18:54Speaker 1: throws it on top of that, so basically it was
- 18:56Speaker 1: a punt. And then there was another play in the
- 18:58Speaker 1: game where he spun away from pursuit and extended to
- 19:03Speaker 1: play for like five to ten seconds. When he finally
- 19:06Speaker 1: throws one of his rainbow passes to the end zone,
- 19:09Speaker 1: it's a Carolina defenders standing there and the defender dropped
- 19:12Speaker 1: the ball, and you're thinking, why has this not been
- 19:15Speaker 1: coached out of him after all this time that he's
- 19:19Speaker 1: had to be a starter, And you know, you're right, right,
- 19:23Speaker 1: he seems like you look how he tore apart that
- 19:26Speaker 1: Steelers defense in the second half, and he comes back
- 19:29Speaker 1: and plays down to the level of Carolina. Carolina was
- 19:32Speaker 1: a decent defense. I believe they were ranked eleventh or twelfth,
- 19:36Speaker 1: but they were not a great defense. But yet he
- 19:39Speaker 1: played down to the level of competition and he continuously
- 19:42Speaker 1: does that. He did it against Cleveland, although of course
- 19:44Speaker 1: when you face the Miles Garrett that's a little bit different.
- 19:47Speaker 1: But you know, he plays down to the competition and
- 19:49Speaker 1: for whatever reason, Packer's coaching can't seem to get that
- 19:52Speaker 1: out of his system.
- 19:53Speaker 2: I know, I know, and I'm sure it's exasperating for
- 19:56Speaker 2: them because they you've seen him when he's.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Really good, and he's really good.
- 20:02Speaker 2: But yeah, we've seen it with other young quarterbacks and
- 20:07Speaker 2: in some cases it's a matter of just maturity. In
- 20:10Speaker 2: other cases it's a case of being coached out of it,
- 20:14Speaker 2: as you said, But he's capable of playing like one
- 20:21Speaker 2: of the top, you know, like a top six seven
- 20:25Speaker 2: quarterback in the league.
- 20:25Speaker 3: He really is. On a good day, he looks every
- 20:27Speaker 3: bit of that.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Then you have days like yesterday where you just walk
- 20:31Speaker 2: away shaking your head, wonder, you know, is this really
- 20:34Speaker 2: what this kid's career is going to be?
- 20:36Speaker 3: This is what he's going to be.
- 20:37Speaker 2: That he's going to be a guy who's going to
- 20:38Speaker 2: be really good for a couple of games and then
- 20:41Speaker 2: then have games like this because it's really hard to win,
- 20:47Speaker 2: i mean, win a championship when you have that kind
- 20:50Speaker 2: of quarterback play, I mean you need that. You can't
- 20:53Speaker 2: have a guy making those kinds of mistakes. And early
- 20:56Speaker 2: in the season I kind of had a feel in
- 20:58Speaker 2: that maybe he was past that. You know, and he
- 20:59Speaker 2: was ready to take that next step to be a
- 21:02Speaker 2: championship level quarterback.
- 21:04Speaker 3: And then and then you have a.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Day like yesterday and it leaves you wondering. And the
- 21:08Speaker 2: other part of it is talking about the landscape of
- 21:12Speaker 2: the NFC is the Detroit Lions. They lose at home
- 21:17Speaker 2: to the Minnesota Vikings, you know, playing with J. J.
- 21:21Speaker 3: McCarthy, who hasn't played in basically all year.
- 21:26Speaker 2: I mean, it's it sort of gets back to what
- 21:28Speaker 2: we talked about over the last couple of weeks is
- 21:30Speaker 2: just how crazy wide open the whole NFL is right
- 21:35Speaker 2: now and everything that kind of happened yesterday actually kind
- 21:40Speaker 2: of favors the Eagles. Yes, I mean if the Eagles
- 21:43Speaker 2: are sitting home, just sitting in their chair, you know,
- 21:46Speaker 2: with a drink and some nachos and everything that you
- 21:48Speaker 2: wanted to go, everything was breaking your way. It sort
- 21:52Speaker 2: of makes you think if you're an Eagles fan, thinking,
- 21:54Speaker 2: you know what, maybe this is the indication of maybe
- 21:56Speaker 2: it's our year again, because everything that you could have
- 22:00Speaker 2: yesterday just fell right in your lap.
- 22:02Speaker 4: Hey, I still like a good night out, but I'm
- 22:04Speaker 4: not always in the mood to drink. And that's why.

- 23:32Speaker 1: You were talking earlier about how the Packers roster, although
- 23:35Speaker 1: it's young, is deep in talent, and boy did their
- 23:38Speaker 1: talent level take a significant hit losing Tucker Craft, who
- 23:43Speaker 1: was basically number one among tight ends of receiving yards
- 23:46Speaker 1: and testdowns this year. Basically an ACL tear done for
- 23:49Speaker 1: the season. That is a huge blow to the overall
- 23:53Speaker 1: structure and fluidity of that Packers offense.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Wow. Yeah, that is a massive loss. I mean you
- 24:00Speaker 3: mentioned the stats six touchdowns. He also.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Was number one by leaps and bounds in terms of
- 24:09Speaker 2: yards after catch.
- 24:10Speaker 3: I mean he was.
- 24:12Speaker 2: I mean he was catching a lot of balls and
- 24:14Speaker 2: then he was His yards after the catch.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Numbers were huge.
- 24:18Speaker 2: I mean, and there were some other tight ends out
- 24:19Speaker 2: there that are good yat guys, including including Dallas Goddard.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Yeah, but Craft was way ahead.
- 24:26Speaker 2: I mean that was the thing about him that really
- 24:28Speaker 2: set him apart, and was having a great year, and
- 24:31Speaker 2: he had become he had really become a key player
- 24:35Speaker 2: in their offense and certainly a guy that Jordan Love
- 24:38Speaker 2: relied on.
- 24:39Speaker 3: And to lose him, now that's a big, big loss.
- 24:42Speaker 2: I mean, there's they don't have I don't know where
- 24:46Speaker 2: I don't know where they go now, but they're not
- 24:47Speaker 2: going to get anybody that's going to come in step
- 24:50Speaker 2: right in now and for the rest of this year.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Give them the kind of production the Craft was given him.
- 24:54Speaker 2: I mean, he was playing, he was playing at an
- 24:57Speaker 2: elite level.
- 24:59Speaker 1: If there's if if there's one area of the Eagles,
- 25:02Speaker 1: or should I say the Packers defense that the Eagles
- 25:05Speaker 1: offense will be studying closely is their run defense. I mean,
- 25:08Speaker 1: this was a defense that was pretty stout against the
- 25:11Speaker 1: run for much of the season. All of a sudden,
- 25:13Speaker 1: they give up one hundred and sixty three yards to Carolina.
- 25:17Speaker 1: And you know, when you're taking a consideration that running
- 25:20Speaker 1: attack that the Eagles had the last game, you know,
- 25:23Speaker 1: guys like Saquon and that Eagles offensive line of salivating
- 25:27Speaker 1: and trying to pound the football against this Packers defensive front.
- 25:30Speaker 1: And what was really shocking was Carolina had a lot
- 25:33Speaker 1: of success running right at the middle of green Bayed defense,
- 25:36Speaker 1: which hadn't happened much for opponents this season.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
- 25:41Speaker 2: I think one of the things that people sort of
- 25:44Speaker 2: underestimated in when the Micah Parsons trade went down was
- 25:51Speaker 2: everybody just thought about the one aspect of it, which was,
- 25:53Speaker 2: oh boy, the Packers they're adding Micah Parsons.
- 25:56Speaker 3: To that defense. Well to get him, you gave up
- 26:00Speaker 3: Kenny Clark.
- 26:02Speaker 2: And you know, I know he wasn't necessarily the sexiest
- 26:06Speaker 2: name among defensive players in the NFL, but if you
- 26:10Speaker 2: really studied the game and weekend and week out, Kenny
- 26:14Speaker 2: Clark is a really good player in the interior of
- 26:17Speaker 2: that defensive line. I thought, one of the better interior
- 26:20Speaker 2: players in the entire NFL. So, I mean a lot
- 26:23Speaker 2: of people who are just casual fans, he was just
- 26:26Speaker 2: a name in the transaction.
- 26:28Speaker 3: I think they gave up Kenny Clark. Oh, they got
- 26:30Speaker 3: Michael Parsons. Well, they gave up Kenny Clark.
- 26:32Speaker 2: And I think yesterday was a day when you saw
- 26:35Speaker 2: how much they miss him inside. You know, Gary, who
- 26:39Speaker 2: can be a really good player, was sort of another
- 26:43Speaker 2: no show yesterday. And you know, along with Michael Parsons.
- 26:47Speaker 2: It was just a game where you know, teams have
- 26:50Speaker 2: these games, Gunner, I mean, where they just maybe it's
- 26:55Speaker 2: the look ahead factor. You know, maybe they see it's
- 26:58Speaker 2: Carolina coming in here. You know this two, we're thirteen
- 27:03Speaker 2: point favorites. You know, we got the Eagles game coming
- 27:07Speaker 2: up here. That's a really big game in the NFC.
- 27:10Speaker 2: I think players, even though you know you don't. People
- 27:13Speaker 2: sometimes don't think it, but players they do kind of
- 27:17Speaker 2: look ahead sometimes and they get they trip themselves up
- 27:20Speaker 2: doing that.
- 27:20Speaker 1: We see it.
- 27:21Speaker 3: There are games that you just say, how.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Did that happen? Well, it happens, and it happened to
- 27:26Speaker 2: the Packers yesterday. But you're gonna have their full attention
- 27:30Speaker 2: next night, no question about that. But the fact that
- 27:33Speaker 2: Carolina was able to run the ball as well as
- 27:36Speaker 2: they ran the ball in this game, that was key here.
- 27:38Speaker 3: That was key here because you've got the quarterback was
- 27:41Speaker 3: just coming back. He hadn't played in a while, right,
- 27:44Speaker 3: So the fact that they were able to run the
- 27:46Speaker 3: ball successfully and keep him out of a lot of
- 27:49Speaker 3: third and longs, I mean, allowed them to make the
- 27:52Speaker 3: plays they needed to win a game that nobody thought
- 27:54Speaker 3: they could win.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Mmm. Well, while the Packers are reeling from the loss
- 28:00Speaker 1: of an incredible tight end, the Eagles spent their weekend
- 28:03Speaker 1: loading up. As we talked about off the top of
- 28:06Speaker 1: his podcast, the added Jalen Phillips, Michael Carter, now Jahira Alexander.
- 28:11Speaker 1: We give Howie Roseman credit for being the premier GM
- 28:15Speaker 1: and the National Football League, but let's face it, unless
- 28:19Speaker 1: he gets the green light from the owner, how he
- 28:21Speaker 1: can't make a lot of the moves that he has
- 28:24Speaker 1: made over the last several years. And speaking of Jeffrey Lourie,
- 28:27Speaker 1: as you brought to my attention on Thursday night, he's
- 28:30Speaker 1: being inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame, and Ray,
- 28:35Speaker 1: I think when you when you look at what Jeffrey
- 28:38Speaker 1: Lorie has done during his ownership of the Philadelphia Eagles,
- 28:42Speaker 1: he has always been committed to winning. A lot of
- 28:45Speaker 1: times it didn't work out the way he wanted, but boy,
- 28:47Speaker 1: in the last several years, it has really come to fruition.
- 28:50Speaker 1: He is a man committed to the community in terms
- 28:54Speaker 1: of what he gives to the community and has his
- 28:57Speaker 1: players out there helping to do in the community. I
- 29:00Speaker 1: think this is an incredible honor for an owner who
- 29:03Speaker 1: has been committed to excellence with his organization.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Absolutely, and you said it very well. Jeffrey has been
- 29:12Speaker 3: all of that.
- 29:13Speaker 1: And what I.
- 29:16Speaker 3: When I think back and going back.
- 29:19Speaker 2: A long ways now it's like thirty years since he
- 29:21Speaker 2: bought this team, he is he's without question, the best
- 29:25Speaker 2: owner the Eagles have ever had. And if you're talking
- 29:28Speaker 2: about owners in Philadelphia, people that have owned any of
- 29:32Speaker 2: the teams, you know, I mean Ed Snyder is kind
- 29:36Speaker 2: of the guy that everybody kind of looked to because
- 29:37Speaker 2: I mean he built, you know, he created and built
- 29:40Speaker 2: the Philadelphia Flyers, So that's a whole different thing. You know,
- 29:44Speaker 2: Jeffery didn't build the Eagles. I mean they were there,
- 29:47Speaker 2: he bought them. Ed Sneyder. Ed Snyder created the Flyers.
- 29:52Speaker 2: So I mean Ed Sneyder always has to be in
- 29:54Speaker 2: that conversation among the best owners. But as far as
- 29:56Speaker 2: this franchise goes, it's no question.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Uh.
- 30:00Speaker 2: And what I remember when he first came in here
- 30:03Speaker 2: in ninety five and bought the team, You know, none
- 30:06Speaker 2: of us knew who he was, what he was about everybody.
- 30:11Speaker 2: The one thing everybody agreed upon was everybody was glad
- 30:13Speaker 2: to be rid of Norman Brayman. Everybody was happy to
- 30:16Speaker 2: see Norman Braman lee, but we really didn't know what
- 30:20Speaker 2: we were getting. And there was a lot of questions
- 30:23Speaker 2: to be asked about jeff in the sense that he
- 30:26Speaker 2: was the first owner of the Eagles who wasn't from
- 30:29Speaker 2: Philadelphia and everybody that else had owned this team where
- 30:33Speaker 2: people were from Philadelphia that had grown up with the
- 30:36Speaker 2: Eagles and lived and breathed it. You know, Jeffrey was
- 30:41Speaker 2: coming in. He was the guy's coming in from Boston.
- 30:42Speaker 2: He was a Patriots season ticket holder. You know, he
- 30:45Speaker 2: rooted for the Celtics and the Bruins, and now he's
- 30:48Speaker 2: going to come in here and own the Eagles. I mean,
- 30:50Speaker 2: there was a lot of people, Yes, happy to be
- 30:52Speaker 2: rid of Norman Brayman, but what are we getting with
- 30:55Speaker 2: this guy? And remember there was a lot of talk
- 30:57Speaker 2: about people because he was a movie guy he studio
- 31:01Speaker 2: in Los Angeles that I'll bet, I'll bet he's going
- 31:04Speaker 2: to take the Eagles, He's going to move him to LA. Well,
- 31:06Speaker 2: you know, Jeffrey came in and right away he said
- 31:09Speaker 2: a couple of things. He said, Look, I'm not going anywhere.
- 31:12Speaker 2: I'm going to be part of I'm I'm this is
- 31:14Speaker 2: going to be my home. I'm going to make Philadelphia
- 31:16Speaker 2: my home. This is where I'm this, this is where
- 31:19Speaker 2: I'm going to be. And he's been true to that.
- 31:21Speaker 2: He said he was going to come in and he
- 31:23Speaker 2: was going to be an active part of the community.
- 31:25Speaker 2: He was going to be involved in the community and
- 31:26Speaker 2: do good work and be involved in charities. And he
- 31:29Speaker 2: has done all of that. And the other thing he
- 31:31Speaker 2: said was I'm coming here to win.
- 31:33Speaker 3: That's right.
- 31:34Speaker 2: And Norman Brayman, he loved the money, he loved the power,
- 31:37Speaker 2: he loved the visibility. But you know, he wasn't really
- 31:41Speaker 2: all that committed to winning a championship. If he did,
- 31:44Speaker 2: that was fine, But I mean he was about other things.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Jeffrey was all about winning. Uh, And he's come here
- 31:50Speaker 2: and boys, he won.
- 31:51Speaker 4: Hey, Philly fans game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,

- 33:08Speaker 2: to win in another one. It's going to be an
- 33:09Speaker 2: even dozen at the end of this year, and that's
- 33:12Speaker 2: just about as many as the other three teams combined.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Ye So, Jeff has made good on every promise and
- 33:19Speaker 2: he's built the Eagles up into being not just a
- 33:23Speaker 2: good team, but one of the elite teams in the
- 33:25Speaker 2: National League.
- 33:27Speaker 3: And so yeah, I'm happy for him. I mean, he belongs.
- 33:31Speaker 2: He belongs in the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame and
- 33:34Speaker 2: this week he's going to have the night where he's
- 33:36Speaker 2: going to accept that honor officially.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Well congratulation Jeffrey on an accolade, well deserved. And of
- 33:43Speaker 1: course can't wait to see this matchup come Monday night
- 33:47Speaker 1: at historic lambeau Field Eagles against the Packers. Too long,
- 33:55Speaker 1: long long entities in the National Football League. This game
- 34:01Speaker 1: could go a long way as in determining home field
- 34:04Speaker 1: advantage playoff time. So I can't wait to see how
- 34:07Speaker 1: this one plays out. So for my colleague Gray Didn'tinger,
- 34:11Speaker 1: I'm Derek Gunn. This has been Birds Weekly, presented by
- 34:13Speaker 1: the Inside the Birds Network. We'll talk to you later.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Everybody,
