- 1:03Speaker 2: She's a cheerleader and star of the Netflix series Cheer,
- 1:05Speaker 2: which debuted.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Its second season just a few days ago.
- 1:09Speaker 2: As someone who may be liked some of you totally
- 1:12Speaker 2: totally binged Cheer season one, I was after this opportunity
- 1:16Speaker 2: to get to know Gabby better. We talked about everything
- 1:19Speaker 2: from how she first got into sport and where she
- 1:22Speaker 2: gets her work ethic from to the most difficult parts
- 1:25Speaker 2: of the last two years, living through a pandemic, including
- 1:29Speaker 2: a major bombshell during production her co star Jerry Harris's
- 1:33Speaker 2: arrest on.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Child pornography charges.
- 1:35Speaker 2: She also tells me about her newfound closer relationship with God,
- 1:39Speaker 2: what that looks like these days, and how it's helped
- 1:42Speaker 2: her stay the course during some of these tough times,
- 1:45Speaker 2: plus the surprising truth about when she gets to watch
- 1:49Speaker 2: the series and how she feels about the way that
- 1:52Speaker 2: she and her family.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Were portrayed in season one. Loved this combo.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I'm now officially a bigger Gabby Butler and I am
- 2:02Speaker 2: excitic to bring it to the feed. Before we get
- 2:04Speaker 2: to it today, I want to make sure I shout
- 2:07Speaker 2: out the Hurdle Instagram. I want to make sure that

- 2:20Speaker 2: few seconds wherever you are listening to this podcast.

- 2:24Speaker 2: Option to rate it, give it five stars, or maybe
- 2:28Speaker 2: there's a max of ten stars. However many stars you
- 2:31Speaker 2: can give it, it is so greatly appreciated. It helps
- 2:34Speaker 2: new people discover the show, it helps boost the ratings
- 2:37Speaker 2: of the show. All of that, it's good stuff and
- 2:41Speaker 2: it's appreciated. Last little bit of housekeeping here, I would
- 2:45Speaker 2: love to answer a question that you may have on
- 2:48Speaker 2: an upcoming episode of the show, specifically on five Minute Friday.
- 2:53Speaker 3: So if you have one for me, I am all ears.
- 2:56Speaker 2: All you've got to do is click the link in
- 2:58Speaker 2: the show notes that says leave me a voice message.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I will get the voice message, I will answer the
- 3:03Speaker 2: voice message, I will answer your questions. It's all gonna
- 3:06Speaker 2: be great. Go ahead, leave me one right now. And
- 3:11Speaker 2: with that, let's get to hurdle it.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Today.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I am sitting down with Gabby Butler. Gabby Butler, I'm
- 3:30Speaker 2: so excited to have you, how are you doing today?
- 3:32Speaker 4: I am doing great? How are you?
- 3:34Speaker 3: I'm so good?
- 3:35Speaker 2: I have to know how that this is about two,
- 3:37Speaker 2: This episode's coming out. I think it's like four or
- 3:39Speaker 2: five days after the season two premiere of Cheer. How
- 3:43Speaker 2: are you feeling in this moment right now? It's kind
- 3:46Speaker 2: of like the calm before the storm.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'm definitely very excited to see season two.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I haven't seen it yet. I get to see it
- 3:56Speaker 1: when basically everyone else gets.
- 3:58Speaker 4: To see it.
- 3:59Speaker 1: But honestly, I'm excited for you guys to kind of
- 4:01Speaker 1: like get an idea of what we, like what happened
- 4:05Speaker 1: during the seasons of us, like during COVID and then
- 4:09Speaker 1: having to come back from it and all the obstacles
- 4:12Speaker 1: we had to get over, and then just in general,
- 4:14Speaker 1: like I'm excited for you guys to meet like the
- 4:16Speaker 1: new people that get brought into it, and also just
- 4:20Speaker 1: get an inside glimpse of like what we basically went
- 4:24Speaker 1: through for the past two years.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Talk about a lot of hurdles, right you having to
- 4:28Speaker 2: navigate COVID in the midst of like just trying to
- 4:32Speaker 2: perform well, talk about the mental toll with us that
- 4:35Speaker 2: COVID really took on all of you guys, especially your sport.
- 4:39Speaker 3: So many people typically in a small space.
- 4:42Speaker 1: COVID definitely through I think not just only cheerleaders, but
- 4:46Speaker 1: like everyone in the world was like freaking out, panicking,
- 4:51Speaker 1: like what's going on?
- 4:51Speaker 4: What's going on?
- 4:52Speaker 1: Like we I've never in my life like dealt with
- 4:55Speaker 1: something like this, And honestly, it was so scary because
- 4:58Speaker 1: of the uncertainty and like, just it's very eerie and weird,
- 5:03Speaker 1: Like it was just a very weird time. So I
- 5:06Speaker 1: was definitely, you know, I was devastated when they canceled
- 5:09Speaker 1: the twenty twenty season, just because we worked so hard
- 5:13Speaker 1: the whole entire year to basically get up to that
- 5:16Speaker 1: point at the very end, and we were about to compete,
- 5:19Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden it was like, Okay,
- 5:21Speaker 1: well you know this is happening, and you guys are
- 5:25Speaker 1: no longer able to compete.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and then cheerleading looking because of the pandemic so
- 5:30Speaker 2: much different than it had in years prior. So in
- 5:34Speaker 2: that environment, what did it start to look like for
- 5:37Speaker 2: you when you couldn't practice exactly like you used to?
- 5:41Speaker 4: Yeah, that was definitely.
- 5:43Speaker 1: It was just so weird because I'm like, well, I'm
- 5:45Speaker 1: used to going to cheer practice every day, I'm used
- 5:47Speaker 1: to a regiment, and I'm used to this certain schedule,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and then for it to just completely stop, I had to, like,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I mean, I had to change the way I did everything,
- 5:56Speaker 1: like and I wanted to make sure that during COVID
- 6:00Speaker 1: I was staying in good shape because I knew that
- 6:02Speaker 1: we wanted to continue doing another year after this whole
- 6:07Speaker 1: thing happened, and I was like, I need to make
- 6:09Speaker 1: sure that I'm ahead of the game and I'm doing
- 6:12Speaker 1: everything I need to do to make sure I'm in
- 6:15Speaker 1: the best shape physically, in shape and good to go.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Like I wanted to make sure I was mentally ready
- 6:22Speaker 1: to go too, and I really took a step back
- 6:26Speaker 1: and really tried to improve myself during quarantine. I would
- 6:32Speaker 1: say I did a lot of self improvement during quarantine
- 6:35Speaker 1: for sure.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Yeah, can we talk about what that looked like for you?
- 6:38Speaker 4: You can always grow as a person.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I don't think you can ever reach like, oh, I'm
- 6:43Speaker 1: at the perfect point in my life. Like I feel like,
- 6:46Speaker 1: no matter what, you can get better, Like every day
- 6:49Speaker 1: you can make something better. And I think everybody in general,
- 6:52Speaker 1: like we can do better, like in whole, Like as
- 6:55Speaker 1: a whole, you could be like the sweetest person, but
- 6:57Speaker 1: there's always one little thing you can improve on. So
- 7:00Speaker 1: I definitely tried to like just be like more, you know,
- 7:05Speaker 1: love self love, Like I think self love is so important,
- 7:08Speaker 1: And I think that like knowing who you are and
- 7:10Speaker 1: also like understanding what you want in life and just
- 7:14Speaker 1: being confident in who you are is like the most
- 7:17Speaker 1: important thing, and the way that you look at yourself
- 7:20Speaker 1: is so important, you know, like you have to love yourself.
- 7:23Speaker 4: And one thing that I actually haven't told.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Anyone, I grew a very very strong relationship with God
- 7:32Speaker 1: actually over that entire thing while that was happening, because
- 7:37Speaker 1: I felt so stressed out and I felt like something
- 7:40Speaker 1: was always missing. And I've always like believed in God,
- 7:44Speaker 1: and I've always had like you know, like not really
- 7:48Speaker 1: like a super close relationship, but I've always like just
- 7:51Speaker 1: you know, he's been a part of my life, but
- 7:53Speaker 1: not as the.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Way he was over Quarantine.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Like I felt like I my relationship with God was
- 8:00Speaker 1: very much like very very strong, and I felt like
- 8:03Speaker 1: a completely different person when I started to kind of
- 8:08Speaker 1: just like yeah, just like give my life like to
- 8:12Speaker 1: God and like trust in him and like really really
- 8:16Speaker 1: just let go of all the stress and anxiety. I
- 8:19Speaker 1: feel like He's been a very big part of my
- 8:21Speaker 1: life since Quarantine, since after twenty twenty, and I feel
- 8:25Speaker 1: like my life has really changed for the positive, and
- 8:28Speaker 1: I feel like a much stronger person.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I think it's also really beautiful in that you were
- 8:33Speaker 2: saying letting go a little bit. I think that many
- 8:37Speaker 2: people over the pandemic had to get to a place
- 8:40Speaker 2: where they were a lot better right with letting go
- 8:44Speaker 2: and being okay with the fact that there are going
- 8:46Speaker 2: to be things in life that we cannot control, and
- 8:49Speaker 2: you have the choice to be frustrated and angry about
- 8:54Speaker 2: those things, or you can just do the best you
- 8:56Speaker 2: can with what you have. And it seems as though
- 8:59Speaker 2: through your reliefationship with God and getting a little bit
- 9:02Speaker 2: more deep on that that maybe that was something you
- 9:05Speaker 2: came to learn over the last twenty or so months.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Absolutely, and I think that that was the missing piece
- 9:11Speaker 1: for me. I think that it's so important to have
- 9:15Speaker 1: God in your life because I feel like a lot
- 9:17Speaker 1: of the stress and anxiety and depression that people get
- 9:20Speaker 1: is because it's you know, it is at that piece,
- 9:24Speaker 1: that piece that they're looking for. And it's like, for me,
- 9:29Speaker 1: my experience was just it was insane, Like I got
- 9:32Speaker 1: baptized actually in my pool, literally like on Easter Sunday,
- 9:37Speaker 1: and I it was like one of the most unforgettable
- 9:40Speaker 1: experiences that I've ever had. It was just it was
- 9:43Speaker 1: such a beautiful like moment and even though a lot
- 9:46Speaker 1: of people couldn't be there, Like it's something that I
- 9:48Speaker 1: will never forget because the feeling that I had it
- 9:52Speaker 1: was just so like amazing, Like I can't I get
- 9:55Speaker 1: chills thinking about it, because I felt like my whole
- 9:57Speaker 1: body was just like electrified with like this amazing like
- 10:01Speaker 1: energy and it was beautiful.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's really beautiful that you're finding these beautiful
- 10:06Speaker 2: moments in silver linings in a time that many again
- 10:09Speaker 2: struggle to find these joys when things are not as
- 10:14Speaker 2: they had hoped or expected. You mentioned not having a
- 10:18Speaker 2: lot of people that you had hoped could be there
- 10:20Speaker 2: not be there, but still like to be able to
- 10:22Speaker 2: find those small joys is so so important, and I
- 10:26Speaker 2: mean talking about flexing that muscle, about finding the silver linings.
- 10:29Speaker 2: You mentioned the hurdles that you had to conquer going
- 10:33Speaker 2: into twenty twenty and going into twenty twenty.
- 10:35Speaker 3: One with Navarro.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Another hurdle that you all conquered together was the national
- 10:40Speaker 2: coverage of what happened with Jerry. So talk to me
- 10:43Speaker 2: about how you have managed to get through that, not
- 10:47Speaker 2: just as an individual but together as a team.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Yeah, so that entire like I mean as a team,
- 10:56Speaker 1: that was definitely one of the hardest opsticles I think
- 11:00Speaker 1: we had to overcome and get over because you know,
- 11:05Speaker 1: we knew the Jerry that you all saw in season one,
- 11:08Speaker 1: like that was the Jerry that we saw every single day.
- 11:12Speaker 1: It was just this ray of light and it was
- 11:17Speaker 1: like someone who could pick you up when you felt down,
- 11:20Speaker 1: make you laugh when you were sad, or you know,
- 11:24Speaker 1: reach that lending hand when you were down and you
- 11:27Speaker 1: needed it. It was the most devastating thing that I
- 11:31Speaker 1: that had happened in that whole entire like series. It
- 11:35Speaker 1: was something that was very emotional for all of us.
- 11:39Speaker 1: And the allegations that are basically being made against him.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I don't condone in any way, shape or form, but
- 11:48Speaker 1: I also do you know, there is that side of
- 11:51Speaker 1: me that has those memories that I had with him,
- 11:56Speaker 1: and it was nothing but loving and genuine and like true,
- 12:01Speaker 1: like pure happiness. So it's like it was just very
- 12:04Speaker 1: hard for me to grasp my head or it was
- 12:07Speaker 1: hard for me to wrap my head around any of
- 12:09Speaker 1: it because I'm like, there's no way, there's no way,
- 12:13Speaker 1: and I you know, he's his case is still open
- 12:17Speaker 1: in court, so I'm really being like super aware of
- 12:21Speaker 1: that and also just like trying to like I'm just
- 12:23Speaker 1: staying really really hopeful. And also I'm just yeah, like
- 12:27Speaker 1: I cheerleading should absolutely be a safe spot for everyone
- 12:30Speaker 1: in the sport, and I definitely just want to hold
- 12:34Speaker 1: on to like the good memories and the good times
- 12:36Speaker 1: that I did have with him.
- 12:37Speaker 2: And I mean you talking about cheerleading being a safe
- 12:40Speaker 2: sport or should be a safe sport for all. When
- 12:43Speaker 2: you first got involved in cheer did you find it,
- 12:47Speaker 2: as I would say, like and thralling and as exciting
- 12:52Speaker 2: as you have come to love it right now? Talk
- 12:54Speaker 2: to me about getting into the sport at the get go.
- 12:57Speaker 1: So it's actually so fun because a lot of people
- 13:00Speaker 1: don't actually ask me like, hey, like how was it
- 13:04Speaker 1: when you first joined? And obviously like you got to
- 13:07Speaker 1: start somewhere. But when I first joined, I was like
- 13:11Speaker 1: the worst one on the team.
- 13:13Speaker 4: I sucked.
- 13:15Speaker 1: My mom would always lead like my mom was like
- 13:18Speaker 1: if you if I had to go down the line,
- 13:20Speaker 1: you were the worst one on the team. Like I'm
- 13:22Speaker 1: gonna say it straight up. And one thing that I
- 13:25Speaker 1: do have is drive.
- 13:27Speaker 4: I have drive, and.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I also work really really hard. So my work ethic
- 13:32Speaker 1: is like I will not stop until I am at
- 13:38Speaker 1: the top. And I think that's something that has carried
- 13:41Speaker 1: like throughout my entire life, Like no matter what I'm doing,
- 13:44Speaker 1: I always want to make sure I'm thriving in anything
- 13:47Speaker 1: that I do. I'm super competitive, a healthy competitive, but
- 13:51Speaker 1: I am very competitive and I like to I like
- 13:54Speaker 1: to be the best at what I do. So as
- 13:58Speaker 1: a little girl, I would go in the every single day.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I would go from when the gym opened basically until
- 14:04Speaker 1: the gym closed, and they would have to be kicking
- 14:08Speaker 1: me out of the gym. They would turn off the
- 14:10Speaker 1: lights and be like, Gabby, you need to go home,
- 14:12Speaker 1: like we need to go home, like come on. And
- 14:15Speaker 1: I just think I had such a love and a
- 14:17Speaker 1: passion for it, like since I was little, and it's yeah,
- 14:20Speaker 1: like I'm not gonna lie. There was there were times
- 14:22Speaker 1: that my passion for the sport would not die, but
- 14:27Speaker 1: it just like the flame went out, and there were
- 14:29Speaker 1: times that I had to pull myself back up and
- 14:32Speaker 1: pull myself out of it and be like you know what,
- 14:34Speaker 1: like don't forget why you started it. You started it
- 14:38Speaker 1: because you loved it, and you need to find that
- 14:40Speaker 1: joy again, like that happiness that it brought you when
- 14:43Speaker 1: you were a little girl.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Two things to double click on the first thing.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Do you think that you were born with this like
- 14:50Speaker 2: passion and drive, Like was it modeled for you from
- 14:53Speaker 2: a young age, like at home, or do you think
- 14:55Speaker 2: that that is something that became an inquired skill over time.
- 15:01Speaker 1: I think since I was a little girl, I have
- 15:05Speaker 1: always been a super energetic and athletic person since I
- 15:09Speaker 1: was little.
- 15:10Speaker 4: Like my dad he used to when I was a baby.
- 15:12Speaker 1: He would like put me on his hand and like
- 15:15Speaker 1: balance me and I you know, I was a very
- 15:19Speaker 1: energetic kid, and that's actually why my parents put me
- 15:21Speaker 1: in gymnastics at first, and then they switched me over
- 15:24Speaker 1: to cheerleading because I had so much energy, and so
- 15:27Speaker 1: I think I did it more for fun when I
- 15:29Speaker 1: was little, But then I started getting really really good
- 15:32Speaker 1: at it, and I started seeing the more competitive side
- 15:35Speaker 1: and the more like you gotta like be on your
- 15:39Speaker 1: a game when you're when you're hanging with the best,
- 15:42Speaker 1: like you gotta be on your on your feet, on
- 15:44Speaker 1: your toe. So it definitely did get more challenging as
- 15:49Speaker 1: I've grown up, but it molded me into the person
- 15:52Speaker 1: I am today. If I quit when I wanted to,
- 15:55Speaker 1: I would have never been in the position that I'm
- 15:57Speaker 1: in right now. So I think like all the challenges
- 16:00Speaker 1: is in all the competitiveness and all the things that
- 16:03Speaker 1: have been you know, basically thrown is something that has
- 16:07Speaker 1: made me a lot stronger.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's interesting to hear you talk about your
- 16:11Speaker 2: beginnings as a cheerleader, knowing that you weren't the best.
- 16:15Speaker 3: A little bit of hesitation there.
- 16:16Speaker 2: You, as I have heard you talk about before, also
- 16:20Speaker 2: had some hesitation about getting involved.
- 16:23Speaker 3: With Navarro, So talk to us a little bit about that.
- 16:25Speaker 1: I was never like going to get involved with college cheerleading.
- 16:28Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I'm just strictly all star because
- 16:31Speaker 1: that's where I started. I started an All star. And
- 16:34Speaker 1: I was like, I will never do college cheerleading, like
- 16:36Speaker 1: absolutely not.
- 16:38Speaker 3: And why did you say that? Why not?
- 16:40Speaker 1: Number one was because they were on dead mat And
- 16:44Speaker 1: it was like, how that is terrible? Why on earth
- 16:47Speaker 1: would I want to put my body through like college cheerleading,
- 16:51Speaker 1: especially if.
- 16:52Speaker 4: It's on a dead mat.
- 16:53Speaker 1: And you know, I used to think more of like
- 16:56Speaker 1: when I thought of college cheerleading, I thought more of like, yeah,
- 16:59Speaker 1: like the cheer and the even me, like who was
- 17:02Speaker 1: in cheerleading? I thought college cheerleading was more about like,
- 17:05Speaker 1: you know, the cheers and the sidelines, and I'm like,
- 17:07Speaker 1: I don't want to do that, like that's not what
- 17:09Speaker 1: I want to do. And then Kaylie Peppers, who is
- 17:13Speaker 1: actually was the assistant coach for Navarro last year, like
- 17:16Speaker 1: she was actually the one that got me to go
- 17:19Speaker 1: to Navarro and visit. She's like, I think you should
- 17:21Speaker 1: come to a Navarro practice and I was like, I
- 17:24Speaker 1: don't really know, like that's probably not something that I
- 17:26Speaker 1: want to do. She was like, no, I really think
- 17:29Speaker 1: you should. And I'm like, okay, like I'll just go
- 17:31Speaker 1: to one practice. And I actually didn't even do it
- 17:35Speaker 1: that season. I did it the next season. I went
- 17:37Speaker 1: to Navarro after so I went and this is actually
- 17:40Speaker 1: a funny story, so I actually went to TVCC also
- 17:44Speaker 1: because I wanted to see them too. And I think
- 17:48Speaker 1: both programs are great, Like I genuinely think both programs
- 17:52Speaker 1: are like super talented, but I think the way that
- 17:54Speaker 1: they do things is obviously a little bit different. But
- 17:57Speaker 1: one thing that really drove me to go to NOVA
- 18:00Speaker 1: was Monica specifically. She has definitely impacted my life, like
- 18:05Speaker 1: the in the best way that any person could, Like
- 18:09Speaker 1: she really really was there for me when I felt
- 18:12Speaker 1: like I didn't have anyone else.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Clearly, she has been a role model for you, someone
- 18:17Speaker 2: that you look up to. What would you say are
- 18:19Speaker 2: some of the values or qualities that you admire in Monica?
- 18:24Speaker 1: The way she holds herself, Like the way she carries herself,
- 18:28Speaker 1: Like she really does carry herself with such like grace
- 18:32Speaker 1: and being humble too, but she's also got that fiery
- 18:35Speaker 1: side that's like all right, like we are not coming
- 18:39Speaker 1: to play, like let's get this going.
- 18:41Speaker 4: You know, she could be she could be like so.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Sweet and graceful, but she also has a switch that
- 18:46Speaker 1: she could turn on that it's like a boss.
- 18:50Speaker 4: And I think that overall, like.
- 18:52Speaker 1: She just genuinely cares so much about all of her kids,
- 18:57Speaker 1: Like she really will fight for every single one of us.
- 19:01Speaker 1: And I think that that's something that isn't just when
- 19:04Speaker 1: you're her athlete, Like that's throughout life. If I called
- 19:08Speaker 1: Monica and said I need your help on this situation,
- 19:11Speaker 1: like she's there, Yeah, she's like a mother like to me. Honestly,
- 19:15Speaker 1: she still to this day keeps in contact with me
- 19:18Speaker 1: and like even if I don't respond, like she'll just
- 19:21Speaker 1: check on me to make sure I'm doing good.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think it's so special to have those
- 19:26Speaker 2: role models and the people that you look up to
- 19:29Speaker 2: at this point now, I mean, someone goes to your Instagram,
- 19:31Speaker 2: you have almost two million followers. You're certainly someone that
- 19:34Speaker 2: a lot of people look up to, including young women
- 19:37Speaker 2: in the sport.
- 19:38Speaker 3: How do you take responsibility for that?
- 19:41Speaker 2: Because I'm sure that when people talk about you that
- 19:44Speaker 2: you hope that if they're looking up to you, they're
- 19:46Speaker 2: kind of talking about you with that same admiration that
- 19:49Speaker 2: you talk about Monica with.
- 19:51Speaker 1: I want people to also know, and this is something
- 19:54Speaker 1: I've always said, like I want people to know that
- 19:56Speaker 1: I am a normal Like I am so normal and
- 19:59Speaker 1: I'm really because I think that a lot of people think,
- 20:02Speaker 1: oh my gosh, like you can't even come up to
- 20:05Speaker 1: her or approach her, But I really am like one
- 20:08Speaker 1: of the most chilled, down to earth people. And I
- 20:11Speaker 1: want to impact people's lives in a very positive way
- 20:14Speaker 1: because I feel like there's so much there's so much
- 20:17Speaker 1: darkness in this world and there's so much negativity already.
- 20:21Speaker 1: So if I could at least change one person's life,
- 20:24Speaker 1: impact one person, that's I feel like that's accomplishing, Like
- 20:29Speaker 1: a really big thing because I really genuinely just want
- 20:33Speaker 1: people to be positive and loving and I want to
- 20:36Speaker 1: bring out that positivity in the you know, not only
- 20:40Speaker 1: in the cheer industry, but with everyone. So I think
- 20:43Speaker 1: showing my true genuine side is something so important because
- 20:47Speaker 1: I want people to know that I do mess up,
- 20:51Speaker 1: I do have bad days, and I do go through
- 20:53Speaker 1: things also, and I want them to be able to
- 20:55Speaker 1: like relate definitely.
- 20:57Speaker 2: And I would imagine after the kind of media frenzy
- 21:01Speaker 2: and just the frenzy in general that happened with Season
- 21:04Speaker 2: one of Cheer, that there was probably a little bit
- 21:06Speaker 2: of an adjustment period as more and more people knew
- 21:10Speaker 2: your name and like kind of had a little bit
- 21:12Speaker 2: of access to you because of the way that social
- 21:14Speaker 2: media works.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Can you talk to us a little bit about what
- 21:17Speaker 3: that was like for you.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Yeah, So I've always had, you know, a little bit
- 21:22Speaker 1: of a social media following, and I feel like that's
- 21:24Speaker 1: something that I I'm very grateful for because I was
- 21:28Speaker 1: in the limelight since such a young age and I'm
- 21:31Speaker 1: really grateful that my because I feel like a big
- 21:34Speaker 1: part of the reason that I am the way I
- 21:37Speaker 1: am and the way I can handle these things so well,
- 21:40Speaker 1: is because my parents have kind of helped me throughout
- 21:43Speaker 1: my entire life with speaking in front of people and
- 21:47Speaker 1: with going and doing these things, and definitely just prepping
- 21:51Speaker 1: me and like making sure that I'm like the best
- 21:53Speaker 1: example for younger people, and not only younger people, just overall.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Everyone was kind of just thrown into it, and I've
- 22:00Speaker 1: had a little bit of a head start to be like,
- 22:03Speaker 1: I know what to do, I know how it goes.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Having this really beautiful relationship with your parents. Then I
- 22:08Speaker 2: have to ask you how it felt when they were
- 22:11Speaker 2: getting some criticism after that first season of the show.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I'm the first to say, like my family, we are
- 22:17Speaker 1: not like a normal family. We are crazy, we're loud,
- 22:21Speaker 1: We're very very blunt and straight to the point, and
- 22:25Speaker 1: a lot of people don't really like that, I guess,
- 22:28Speaker 1: or they're not used to it, but that's just the
- 22:30Speaker 1: way that my family is and I wouldn't trade them
- 22:33Speaker 1: for the world, honestly, but I definitely, you know, it
- 22:36Speaker 1: was hard to see like all the criticism because I
- 22:38Speaker 1: felt like a lot of people didn't see like the
- 22:42Speaker 1: genuine moments that we had and like the laughs that
- 22:44Speaker 1: we had, and you know, the loving moments, I feel
- 22:48Speaker 1: like it was more like people were focusing on like, oh,
- 22:51Speaker 1: the negative and like oh, her parents are you know
- 22:54Speaker 1: this and that and it. Yeah, it was sad to
- 22:57Speaker 1: see because I'm like, that's not the way that they all, like,
- 23:00Speaker 1: that's not the way that we are as a family.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Like yeah, are we crazy, absolutely, But the way that
- 23:07Speaker 1: the show was, I think they portrayed everyone like very
- 23:09Speaker 1: well and like correctly, and then like that situation, everyone
- 23:13Speaker 1: was just kind of like oh, you know, like they
- 23:15Speaker 1: all had their own opinions and that's fine at the
- 23:19Speaker 1: end of the day, Like whoever knows us personally as
- 23:21Speaker 1: a family, like they know, like we're a very tight
- 23:24Speaker 1: knit family.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Taking a break from today's episode to give some love
- 23:33Speaker 2: to my sponsors. First up, a new exciting, exciting, exciting
- 23:38Speaker 2: sponsor for the show, my friends at Priority Bicycles.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Over the last couple of years.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Let me just like lay this out for you, I
- 23:45Speaker 2: got really into cycling, and not always like hardcore road
- 23:49Speaker 2: or mountain bike riding. Now I am riding my bike
- 23:52Speaker 2: around town on the regular, whether it's running errands or riding.
- 23:56Speaker 3: With the fam or even commuting. Regular rides have brought
- 23:59Speaker 3: me a ton of joy.
- 24:01Speaker 2: I know that it can be mega intimidating shopping for bicycles,
- 24:04Speaker 2: knowing what to get, being pressured into more than you need,
- 24:07Speaker 2: and there's also the stress of upkeep. That is where
- 24:11Speaker 2: Priority Bicycles comes in. I have a Priority bicycle. In fact,
- 24:14Speaker 2: I have had two over the last few years, and
- 24:17Speaker 2: they're awesome because the company itself was founded and is
- 24:20Speaker 2: run by cycling industry veterans who weren't just thinking of
- 24:24Speaker 2: how to make bikes faster and more techy. They wanted
- 24:27Speaker 2: to make bicycles that were easier to ride and maintain.
- 24:29Speaker 2: And that is why I am obsessed with my Priority bicycle.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Their bikes have low maintenance designs. I needed them to.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Explain what that meant to me at first two. Essentially,
- 24:40Speaker 2: they're light and their intuitive. They have things like puncture
- 24:44Speaker 2: resistant tires, and their best feature, I would argue a.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Carbon fiber drive belt instead of a chain.
- 24:52Speaker 2: It lasts way longer and it is way easier to
- 24:56Speaker 2: clean than a chain. If you have ever had a
- 24:57Speaker 2: chain lock up or stay in your pants, then.
- 24:59Speaker 3: You know exactly what I need.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Now is a perfect time to invest in you. And
- 25:05Speaker 2: of course Priorities got a deal for the Hurdle audience.

- 26:19Speaker 2: the recipes since I'm making them for myself that I
- 26:22Speaker 2: can eat the next day for lunch or dinner, plus
- 26:25Speaker 2: cooking at the end of a long day. Honestly, it
- 26:28Speaker 2: is one of my favorite relaxing ways to wind down.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Last week I ate two delicious, delicious Green Chef recipes.
- 26:37Speaker 3: It was the creamy shrimp and bacon soup. Oh my god, unreal.
- 26:42Speaker 2: It had grocerbread, peppers and fenel and carrot and it
- 26:45Speaker 2: was so good. And also, can't forget the pineapple barbecue flatbreads.
- 26:49Speaker 2: They came with these spicy pickled shallatts.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Wow. Yeah, you've got to try this stuff. Head on

- 27:13Speaker 2: one thirty.
- 27:20Speaker 3: It sounds like you have like such a good head
- 27:22Speaker 3: on your shoulders.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Now about that whole idea, not just with your family,
- 27:26Speaker 2: but knowing that, like there are always going to be
- 27:27Speaker 2: people that have some sort of opinion about what they
- 27:31Speaker 2: see or maybe what they read, or like whatever it
- 27:34Speaker 2: is that you post. Like how have you gotten to
- 27:37Speaker 2: this place where you're able to kind of like let
- 27:40Speaker 2: these things go, Because no matter how secure you are
- 27:44Speaker 2: in yourself, like, there's always going to be like that
- 27:46Speaker 2: moment where you read something or see something and it
- 27:48Speaker 2: stings a little bit.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I always say this, people are always going to say
- 27:52Speaker 1: and they're going to have their own opinion of you,
- 27:53Speaker 1: and that's fine.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Like I say it all the time. I'm like, you know,
- 27:58Speaker 4: if people don't like.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Me, then that's totally fine. Like I'm not trying to
- 28:04Speaker 1: impress everyone, because at the end of the day, if
- 28:06Speaker 1: I was, if I was trying to please everyone, I
- 28:10Speaker 1: wouldn't be happy myself because I'm trying so hard to
- 28:13Speaker 1: please everyone.
- 28:14Speaker 4: And I think that just knowing who you are and being.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Yourself is like the most valuable thing, especially nowadays, because
- 28:22Speaker 1: I feel like people get caught up in what others
- 28:25Speaker 1: think about them or what other people's opinions are, and
- 28:28Speaker 1: it's like people are going to have their opinions of
- 28:31Speaker 1: you and not everyone who's going to like you all
- 28:34Speaker 1: the time, and that's fine. You be you because at
- 28:37Speaker 1: the end of the day, you.
- 28:38Speaker 4: Only have you.
- 28:39Speaker 1: You are going to have those friends that are going
- 28:41Speaker 1: to have your back, but at the end of the day,
- 28:43Speaker 1: like you are always going to have you, and you
- 28:45Speaker 1: need to be confident, know who you are and just
- 28:48Speaker 1: know you're not always going to be able to please everyone.
- 28:50Speaker 1: If you're true to who you are, then that's like
- 28:52Speaker 1: really all that matters.
- 28:54Speaker 2: It's so interesting as well, because you saying when we
- 28:57Speaker 2: started this, you are like, yeah, I haven't seen it yet.
- 29:00Speaker 2: To be back in this place where you haven't seen
- 29:02Speaker 2: it yet, do you have any residual anxiety about that?
- 29:06Speaker 1: Yeah? I have, like because it's so it's crazy and
- 29:11Speaker 1: I feel like you really have to open up and
- 29:13Speaker 1: be vulnerable when you're putting your life out there. And
- 29:17Speaker 1: I definitely try to like be as real as I
- 29:20Speaker 1: can be regardless if there are cameras around or not.
- 29:24Speaker 1: I've never like, that's one thing that I've really tried
- 29:27Speaker 1: to do is I've never really thought like I'm going
- 29:30Speaker 1: to act a certain way because you know, cameras are
- 29:34Speaker 1: around or these people are around, Like, I've always just
- 29:37Speaker 1: tried to be as genuine and as open as I
- 29:40Speaker 1: possibly can and just show that I am a human
- 29:44Speaker 1: being and I do have emotions, and I do have
- 29:46Speaker 1: bad days, and I do have things that I have
- 29:48Speaker 1: to overcome all the time, and I want people to
- 29:51Speaker 1: know like it's okay to not be perfect. You are
- 29:54Speaker 1: going to have all these different things, Like you're not
- 29:57Speaker 1: always going to have like an upward path in life,
- 30:01Speaker 1: Like it's gonna come at you and it's gonna there's
- 30:03Speaker 1: gonna be things thrown at you all the time. But
- 30:06Speaker 1: it's how you handle those things that's going to make
- 30:08Speaker 1: you the person you are.
- 30:10Speaker 2: I do want to rewind just a little bit to
- 30:12Speaker 2: talk a little bit more about the earlier parts of
- 30:16Speaker 2: your career in cheerleading, specifically the earlier days with Navarro.
- 30:21Speaker 2: I mean before cheer was even a thing. When you
- 30:25Speaker 2: think about those days and building these new relationships, do
- 30:29Speaker 2: you find that as someone that's in a sport where
- 30:32Speaker 2: there is so much trust involved that that takes some
- 30:35Speaker 2: time or is that something that kind of comes with
- 30:38Speaker 2: the territory when you put yourself up into these situations.
- 30:43Speaker 1: I definitely think as a team like, this is just
- 30:46Speaker 1: something that over the years I've noticed, the closer the
- 30:50Speaker 1: team is and the better the bond is, the more
- 30:53Speaker 1: success you're going to have.
- 30:55Speaker 4: Like it's a known fact.
- 30:56Speaker 1: And it's very rare for teams to win and do
- 31:01Speaker 1: really well if they're divided. And I've been on teams
- 31:05Speaker 1: where there's so much talent but we don't win because
- 31:09Speaker 1: we weren't as close, or teams that I've been on
- 31:13Speaker 1: that we didn't have as much talent and we just
- 31:15Speaker 1: were so close and we knew each other's strengths and weaknesses,
- 31:19Speaker 1: and I think, yeah, like those were the most successful
- 31:22Speaker 1: years that I was on. So this is what I
- 31:25Speaker 1: say all the time, Like you as a team, you
- 31:30Speaker 1: need to be a team to be successful, because if
- 31:34Speaker 1: you're not a team, it doesn't matter how much talent you.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Have, especially if there's a disconnect, then there is a
- 31:42Speaker 2: greater risk for injury. Talk to us a little bit
- 31:45Speaker 2: about your past dealing with injury. Has it been something
- 31:49Speaker 2: that you have had to navigate a lot or have
- 31:51Speaker 2: you been more of one of the lucky one.
- 31:53Speaker 1: No, I've definitely had my handful of injuries. I have
- 31:57Speaker 1: had broken ankles, I've had dislocated elbows, and I've had
- 32:04Speaker 1: I've had concussions, I've had sprains, I've had honestly a
- 32:09Speaker 1: lot of things.
- 32:10Speaker 4: I've never had like a knockum one.
- 32:12Speaker 1: I've never had like a serious, like serious back injury.
- 32:16Speaker 1: But my back, like I'll wake up some days in
- 32:19Speaker 1: my back will literally just feel like it wants to break.
- 32:22Speaker 1: So Yeah, there's definitely As an athlete, especially in like
- 32:26Speaker 1: college cheerleading, I think it's very very common to get injuries,
- 32:31Speaker 1: and especially when your skills are higher and you're doing
- 32:35Speaker 1: more difficult things, I think it's super easy to get hurt,
- 32:40Speaker 1: especially if you don't have that bond and that trust
- 32:44Speaker 1: with your no like the people that are especially throwing you,
- 32:47Speaker 1: I think it's very dangerous. You have to make sure
- 32:50Speaker 1: that you trust the person that is under you, and
- 32:53Speaker 1: vice versa. I think it's important to have like that
- 32:57Speaker 1: trust in that bond to make sure or like Okay,
- 33:01Speaker 1: I know who's I know that whoever's under me is
- 33:03Speaker 1: going to catch me. I'm going to make sure that
- 33:06Speaker 1: I trust them. Yeah, it's key. It's key for cheerleading.
- 33:10Speaker 2: And regardless if someone's throwing you or not, people reach
- 33:12Speaker 2: out to me all the time and ask about this.
- 33:14Speaker 2: I'm sure you've gotten messages about how to cope with
- 33:17Speaker 2: being on the injured list. It can be so so difficult,
- 33:20Speaker 2: especially like when you can't do the thing that like
- 33:23Speaker 2: you identify as like you couldn't cheerlead. I'm a big runner,
- 33:26Speaker 2: Like if I get injured and I can't run, like
- 33:28Speaker 2: it just it totally sucks the wind out of your sails.
- 33:32Speaker 2: How have you navigated that frustration in the past, and
- 33:35Speaker 2: maybe what advice do you have for someone who is
- 33:39Speaker 2: kind of sidelined from what they love to do.
- 33:41Speaker 1: It's a major setback, and it's something that you have
- 33:44Speaker 1: to not only physically like prepare for, but it's something
- 33:48Speaker 1: that is so mentally. It's a setback for sure. And
- 33:51Speaker 1: I found myself in situations where when I'm hurt, I
- 33:54Speaker 1: get so sad and I get down and depressed, and
- 33:57Speaker 1: it's hard. I have to pull myself out of it
- 34:01Speaker 1: and be like, you know what, there could be a
- 34:02Speaker 1: lot worse things. You could be super unhealthy and sick,
- 34:07Speaker 1: or the injury could have been way worse. And if
- 34:10Speaker 1: there's people that are around, go surround yourself with people
- 34:14Speaker 1: that are gonna uplift you. And love you and bring
- 34:17Speaker 1: happiness out of you because injuries are Yeah, they suck, absolutely,
- 34:22Speaker 1: But I think there's so much more to life than
- 34:25Speaker 1: harping on like an injury, especially like with cheerleading, you know,
- 34:29Speaker 1: like if something happens with cheer I really try not
- 34:32Speaker 1: to harp on it so much because I'm like, cheerleading
- 34:34Speaker 1: is cheerleading. It's a step in life. It's a stepping stool.
- 34:37Speaker 1: It's not everything. I do think it definitely has. It's
- 34:42Speaker 1: been something that's been a big part of my life,
- 34:44Speaker 1: but it's not everything. So if I get a setback
- 34:48Speaker 1: or I do get hurt or something happens that isn't
- 34:52Speaker 1: really like in my plan, I'm not harping on it
- 34:56Speaker 1: too much because I'm like, you know what, I have
- 34:58Speaker 1: people around me that love me. I have other things
- 35:01Speaker 1: that I could do, and there's just so much more
- 35:04Speaker 1: to life.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's like being able to articulate that value,
- 35:07Speaker 2: right that you, as Gabby have value, not just as
- 35:12Speaker 2: Gabby this like superstellar cheerleader, but also just as like
- 35:16Speaker 2: Gabby Butler the woman. Right.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Yeah, So I definitely think that, Yeah, just having a
- 35:22Speaker 1: positive mindset because I'm going to use one girl as
- 35:25Speaker 1: an example. Her name is Michaela and she actually just
- 35:29Speaker 1: had a spinal injury with cheerleading and I was going
- 35:33Speaker 1: through some stuff and I looked and as soon as
- 35:36Speaker 1: that happened, I was like wow. And you know, something
- 35:39Speaker 1: that really impacted me a lot with her story is
- 35:44Speaker 1: even after she was paralyzed, like from the neck down,
- 35:47Speaker 1: basically she was like, I know that God has a
- 35:50Speaker 1: plan for everything, and I know that at the end
- 35:53Speaker 1: of the day, like I'm going to trust him and
- 35:55Speaker 1: like just hope for the best. And if I stay
- 35:58Speaker 1: like this, I'm just grateful for all the people around
- 36:01Speaker 1: me that are like loving and supportive and that really
- 36:05Speaker 1: really like spoke to me, because I'm like, Wow, if
- 36:07Speaker 1: this girl, if this young girl can have a mindset
- 36:11Speaker 1: like that and she's basically paralyzed from the neck down,
- 36:15Speaker 1: and an update on her she's actually able to move now,
- 36:18Speaker 1: which is like super super amazing. That just really moved me.
- 36:21Speaker 1: I was like, if I have a mindset like that,
- 36:25Speaker 1: because she's dealing with this and she's in that mindset,
- 36:28Speaker 1: then I should be a lot more positive.
- 36:30Speaker 2: You know, whether these hurdles are these tough moments like
- 36:33Speaker 2: happened to you personally, or you get to have like
- 36:35Speaker 2: a front row seat and see someone that you know
- 36:38Speaker 2: go through something difficult. It's these difficult moments that teach us,
- 36:42Speaker 2: sometimes unfortunately but thankfully, to appreciate the smaller stuff. At
- 36:48Speaker 2: completely different exercise, but a couple of years back, I
- 36:51Speaker 2: started writing down one thing every morning that I was
- 36:53Speaker 2: grateful for. And what that exercise did, aside from like
- 36:56Speaker 2: bring some more gratitude into my life, was that on
- 36:59Speaker 2: the morning that I couldn't articulate like what the one
- 37:02Speaker 2: thing was from the past twenty four hours that was
- 37:04Speaker 2: really awesome and radiant, I was like, what are you
- 37:07Speaker 2: doing that you're so wrapped up in like nothing important
- 37:10Speaker 2: that you can't find the joy in your day to day.
- 37:13Speaker 1: The way that you think and your mindset can really
- 37:16Speaker 1: like change the way you do things. And I think
- 37:20Speaker 1: that there is so much negativity out in the world,
- 37:24Speaker 1: so I think that finding the positives are so important,
- 37:30Speaker 1: especially nowadays, because I feel like a lot of people
- 37:34Speaker 1: can easily get brought down because of a lot of
- 37:38Speaker 1: things in life. You have to stay positive no matter what,
- 37:42Speaker 1: because at the end of the day, things aren't always
- 37:46Speaker 1: going to stay that way. You're not always going to
- 37:48Speaker 1: stay on the top and you're not always going to
- 37:51Speaker 1: be at the bottom. So you have to be grateful
- 37:54Speaker 1: when you're on the top, and then you have to
- 37:56Speaker 1: be hopeful for when you're at the bottom. I've had
- 37:59Speaker 1: my like day where i feel like I'm on top
- 38:02Speaker 1: of the world, and then the next day I feel
- 38:05Speaker 1: I'm at the lowest points of my life.
- 38:07Speaker 4: But I.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Have to understand that that's just the way life goes.
- 38:12Speaker 1: You're never going to have a perfect steady ride. It's
- 38:16Speaker 1: going to be up and down, in sideways and turning,
- 38:18Speaker 1: and you just have to like really stay positive and
- 38:21Speaker 1: just know that you're not going to always be in
- 38:23Speaker 1: those highs and lows forever.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Have you worked with a sports psychologist a sports psychologist, Yeah, no,
- 38:30Speaker 2: I have not, But that's actually why does it?
- 38:35Speaker 3: Does it?
- 38:36Speaker 1: Like?
- 38:37Speaker 2: I mean, I think that you have a really great outlook,
- 38:39Speaker 2: but I do think that a lot of these takeaways,
- 38:41Speaker 2: I mean, yes, they can be learned. I mean I
- 38:43Speaker 2: haven't worked with the sports psychologist. I've worked with a therapist.
- 38:46Speaker 2: I actually have a call with a life coach in
- 38:48Speaker 2: forty five minutes from right now. But listening to you
- 38:51Speaker 2: talk about your experiences and the broad understanding that you
- 38:54Speaker 2: have from the highs and the lows. It just was
- 38:57Speaker 2: something that I feel like someone at your level of
- 38:59Speaker 2: perform ormance, it wouldn't surprise me.
- 39:02Speaker 4: Yeah, well, thank you. That's yeah.
- 39:04Speaker 1: I definitely like I try to take a bad situation
- 39:07Speaker 1: and make it positive, even though I definitely have had
- 39:11Speaker 1: my times where I'm like I just want to, Like,
- 39:14Speaker 1: there's days that I want to quit. There's days that
- 39:16Speaker 1: I want to just say, like, I don't want to
- 39:19Speaker 1: do this anymore. But I definitely just try to like
- 39:23Speaker 1: make the best of it and be as positive and
- 39:26Speaker 1: grateful as I can.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Aside from the season premiere, season two premiere of Cheer,
- 39:34Speaker 2: what else excites you right now?
- 39:37Speaker 1: I do have a few things that I'm doing right now.
- 39:39Speaker 1: So one is, I have this fitness app that I'm
- 39:42Speaker 1: actually relaunching this year. I have my YouTube channel that
- 39:46Speaker 1: I'm actually relaunching and I'm going to be making a
- 39:49Speaker 1: lot more content for that as well this year. And
- 39:53Speaker 1: I also have this clothing line that I've been working
- 39:57Speaker 1: on with Rebel.
- 39:59Speaker 3: Sounds like a lot of really great stuff.
- 40:01Speaker 2: And then I'd be remiss if I didn't bring up
- 40:03Speaker 2: you cheering at Weber State, Utah. I think I looked
- 40:06Speaker 2: at the forecast before you and I hopped on this call,
- 40:08Speaker 2: and the forecast there today was like something like thirty
- 40:11Speaker 2: two degrees, a very different scenario from where you grew
- 40:15Speaker 2: up in Boca.
- 40:17Speaker 1: It's so funny because I was like, there is no
- 40:21Speaker 1: way that I'm going too cold Utah. Like I've always
- 40:24Speaker 1: lived in hot states, and you know, Florida and Texas,
- 40:28Speaker 1: like they're pretty similar. They're they're always hot. But I
- 40:32Speaker 1: was like, there's at that was like one of the
- 40:33Speaker 1: biggest things. I'm like, that's gonna be so hard for
- 40:36Speaker 1: me to because I'm not used to the cold at all,
- 40:39Speaker 1: and like I'm not I do not.
- 40:41Speaker 4: Work well in the cold.
- 40:42Speaker 1: But surprisingly, it really hasn't been like as bad as
- 40:45Speaker 1: I thought it was going to be.
- 40:47Speaker 4: I've actually like learned to kind of like the cold,
- 40:50Speaker 4: even though I'm not really like, yeah, I'm not. I
- 40:54Speaker 4: love looking at the snow.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I think it's beautiful, but I'm like when I go
- 40:58Speaker 1: in it, I'm like, Okay, I'm not gonna go back inside.
- 41:01Speaker 2: You're like, I do not need to own any of
- 41:03Speaker 2: my own property here because I will not be shoveling it.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Yeah, No, absolutely not, but I definitely have. It's grown
- 41:10Speaker 1: on me a little bit, Like I think it's so pretty,
- 41:12Speaker 1: like when it snows, because I'm you know, I'm not
- 41:14Speaker 1: used to seeing it snow.
- 41:16Speaker 4: I'm used to oceans.
- 41:17Speaker 1: So for me, I come here and I'm like, I
- 41:20Speaker 1: look like a little kid in the candy store because.
- 41:22Speaker 4: I'm like, oh gosh, it's snow.
- 41:23Speaker 1: And then I'm sure some people from here they go
- 41:25Speaker 1: to Florida and they're like, oh my gosh, it's the beach.
- 41:27Speaker 1: Like that's but that's something that I've been like brought
- 41:30Speaker 1: up with, so it's not like anything new for me.
- 41:33Speaker 3: Exactly Exactly. We mentioned your large social media following.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Before someone comes to your Instagram page, they see a cheerleader,
- 41:42Speaker 2: someone with millions plural of followers. When you look in
- 41:46Speaker 2: the mirror, what is it that you see looking back
- 41:48Speaker 2: at you.
- 41:49Speaker 1: I just see Gabby, Like I see like this, I
- 41:52Speaker 1: see like the little girl that basically I mean not
- 41:55Speaker 1: a little girl actually, but like I see like kind
- 41:58Speaker 1: of like my chill likeummy side. I'll wake up in
- 42:01Speaker 1: the morning and my hair is all over the place
- 42:03Speaker 1: and I'm looking like a freaking I just yeah, like
- 42:07Speaker 1: a like a bum and I love that side, like
- 42:09Speaker 1: I love the.
- 42:10Speaker 4: Real side of me, just because I a lot of people.
- 42:13Speaker 1: That know me know me, like they know that I
- 42:16Speaker 1: really am so chill and like normal, and I just
- 42:20Speaker 1: think it's I think it's so funny because when I
- 42:22Speaker 1: do meet people, they're like, oh my gosh, I wasn't
- 42:24Speaker 1: expecting you to be like so talkative and down to earth,
- 42:28Speaker 1: And I'm like, I'm probably one of the most chill
- 42:30Speaker 1: people I think in the public eye or have a
- 42:33Speaker 1: lot of followers, just because I've been so like used
- 42:37Speaker 1: to it.
- 42:38Speaker 4: It's never changed me.
- 42:39Speaker 2: You mentioned it being super hard on the body. I'm
- 42:41Speaker 2: sure a lot of people listening to this are really curious.
- 42:44Speaker 2: What are some things that you do, either prehab or
- 42:47Speaker 2: posthab to make sure that you're taking care of yourself
- 42:50Speaker 2: in the way that you have to to be on
- 42:52Speaker 2: top of your sport.
- 42:53Speaker 1: I make sure that outside of practice, I'm keeping myself
- 42:56Speaker 1: in good physical shape because I know that she is
- 43:00Speaker 1: a great like it's great for working out, and it's
- 43:02Speaker 1: great for keeping yourself in shape, but I want to
- 43:04Speaker 1: make sure that I am in the best physical shape
- 43:07Speaker 1: that I can be in so that I can be
- 43:10Speaker 1: the best for my team. And what I like to
- 43:12Speaker 1: do is I like to actually work out outside of
- 43:15Speaker 1: my practices so I can be more strong, like physically
- 43:20Speaker 1: stronger and even like mentally stronger, because I feel like
- 43:23Speaker 1: it's a good way for me to like let out
- 43:25Speaker 1: like all my anxiety or my stress, like that's the
- 43:29Speaker 1: gym has always been there for like a decompression for me,
- 43:32Speaker 1: like a stress reliever. And then also something that I
- 43:36Speaker 1: like to do just outside of practices is just like
- 43:39Speaker 1: really take time for myself and like hang out with
- 43:42Speaker 1: the people that have been there for me and the
- 43:45Speaker 1: people that like actually like care about me. Obviously, people
- 43:48Speaker 1: see me at practice and they see like that side
- 43:50Speaker 1: of Gabby. They see the athlete side, they see the
- 43:53Speaker 1: tough side. But the people that like know me know
- 43:58Speaker 1: that I'm a normal person too, and they know that
- 44:00Speaker 1: I do struggle with things and I do have things
- 44:02Speaker 1: going on in my life and it's not just the
- 44:06Speaker 1: athlete side. So I really really like to just surround
- 44:09Speaker 1: myself with like the people that have been there for me,
- 44:12Speaker 1: like outside of practices, and the people that like really
- 44:16Speaker 1: want to hang out with me and get to know me.
- 44:18Speaker 1: For me, I would say like those two things, Like
- 44:21Speaker 1: I really like focus.
- 44:22Speaker 2: On outside of practice. How many days a week would
- 44:25Speaker 2: you say you're in the gym?
- 44:26Speaker 1: Pretty much every day I'm in the gym, Like every day.
- 44:31Speaker 1: My mom thinks something's wrong with me. She's like, you
- 44:33Speaker 1: are not mentally well. Like if you actually enjoy going
- 44:36Speaker 1: to the gym that much, I'm like, I.
- 44:38Speaker 4: But I do.
- 44:39Speaker 1: I genuinely do enjoy it. I feel like it's like
- 44:42Speaker 1: a really good way for me to like let out
- 44:44Speaker 1: some like you know, steam, and then also just like
- 44:48Speaker 1: feel good, because like when you feel when you look good,
- 44:50Speaker 1: like you feel good, and I feel like working out
- 44:53Speaker 1: is definitely like one of the things that I personally enjoy.
- 44:57Speaker 3: Strength Cardio Mix question mark.
- 45:00Speaker 1: I like to do a lot of cardio, which a
- 45:02Speaker 1: lot of people don't like. That's my specific strength. I
- 45:05Speaker 1: do need to start adding more weights in, but I do.
- 45:08Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm a cardio queen. I can go for
- 45:10Speaker 1: hours on like a treadmill or the stairs. That's like
- 45:15Speaker 1: my go to the stairs, So I could go on
- 45:18Speaker 1: that thing for like hours.
- 45:21Speaker 2: All fellow cardio queens listening to this podcast right now
- 45:23Speaker 2: are like, I'm not alone.
- 45:25Speaker 3: It's so good.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Thank God, it is like honest, now, like just watch
- 45:29Speaker 1: TikTok's or I'll like have conversations like so the time
- 45:32Speaker 1: goes by faster, or I'll watch a movie.
- 45:35Speaker 4: I just think it's like so easy. I'm like, yeah,
- 45:37Speaker 4: I can do this for days.
- 45:40Speaker 3: All right, Gabby?
- 45:41Speaker 2: Right now, final question, you have an opportunity to offer
- 45:45Speaker 2: yourself a piece of advice. Let's maybe go back to
- 45:48Speaker 2: the beginning of your journey with Navarro. You have an
- 45:52Speaker 2: opportunity right now, looking back on your last few years
- 45:55Speaker 2: doing this, to offer yourself one piece of advice during
- 45:58Speaker 2: some of maybe the more difficult times.
- 46:01Speaker 3: What do you tell yourself.
- 46:03Speaker 1: I would definitely just say, like, during your hard times,
- 46:07Speaker 1: don't feel like you're alone, because everybody goes through things.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Everyone has their own battles that they're doing and they're facing,
- 46:16Speaker 1: and I think that it's important that you communicate those
- 46:19Speaker 1: things so that people can help you through situations. I
- 46:23Speaker 1: think that, yeah, people go through things all the time,
- 46:25Speaker 1: and you have to understand like you're not the only
- 46:27Speaker 1: one going through something. And I think that's staying strong
- 46:30Speaker 1: and like just reaching out to people when you do
- 46:33Speaker 1: need the help, Like you would be surprised at how
- 46:36Speaker 1: many people are there for you?
- 46:38Speaker 3: For sure, Gabby Butler, thank you so much for your
- 46:41Speaker 3: time today. How do the Hurdlers follow along with you?
- 46:43Speaker 3: How do they keep up with you? Give us all
- 46:45Speaker 3: your details.
- 46:46Speaker 1: So my Instagram is Gabby Butler sixteen seventeen, and a
- 46:50Speaker 1: lot of people ask me why it's sixteen seventeen.
- 46:52Speaker 4: So I actually made it when I was like twelve.
- 46:55Speaker 1: But the sixteen stands for my birthday because my birthday
- 46:58Speaker 1: is January sixteenth, and then my younger sister, Amanda's birthday's
- 47:02Speaker 1: February seventeen. The name Gabby Butler was taken, so I
- 47:05Speaker 1: was like, Okay, I guess I'm just gonna have to
- 47:07Speaker 1: use numbers. So Instagram's Gobby Butler sixteen seventeen. My YouTube
- 47:11Speaker 1: channel is literally just Gabby Butler. My TikTok is Gabby
- 47:15Speaker 1: Underscore Butler sixteen seventeen. And yeah, that's pretty much it.
- 47:20Speaker 1: I deleted Twitter because it's toxic.
- 47:22Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, what a big week for you, Geez
- 47:25Speaker 3: and New Steason premiere a birthday you have nothing going on?
- 47:28Speaker 3: Enjoy it. Happy birthday, guaB.
- 47:30Speaker 2: But I'm over at Hurdle Podcasts and at Emily Body
- 47:33Speaker 2: another hurdle conquered.
- 47:35Speaker 3: Catch you guys next time.
