Transcript
- 0:28There is an old movie line that says, life moves pretty fast.
- 0:35If you do not stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
- 0:42And for years, people heard that like a cute reminder. Slow down. Enjoy life.
- 0:50Take in the moment. But I don't hear it cute anymore.
- 0:56I hear it like a warning, because some of you are moving fast.
- 1:00Not because you're building a life, but because you're trying to afford one.
- 1:08Fast to work. Fast to pay. Fast to fix.
- 1:13Fast to cover. Fast to catch up.
- 1:18Fast to answer. Fast to survive. Fast to make sure nothing falls apart.
- 1:25And somewhere inside all that movement, you stopped asking if you were actually living.
- 1:32You started measuring life by what got paid, what got handled,
- 1:39what got covered, what got crossed off, what didn't collapse.
- 1:46And I understand that.
- 1:48Responsibility is real. Bills are real. Pressure is real. But here's the question.
- 1:55When did survival become the whole story?
- 1:59When did keeping up replace building?
- 2:04When did maintenance become identity?
- 2:09When did you stop dreaming?
- 2:13And only to start calculating. Because some of you are not building a life anymore.
- 2:20You are just trying to afford one. And today, we're going to deal with that.
- 2:27Welcome back to the Eminence Legacy Podcast. I'm Jose Luis Cadena.
- 2:32And this is the Sovereignty Series.
- 2:35Stop letting the world lead you.
- 2:38In part one, we said, The world can get loud.
- 2:42But it does not get to lead you. In part two, we dealt with reaction.
- 2:48If everything can trigger you, that means anything can lead you.
- 2:53In part three, we dealt with appetite.
- 2:57You keep calling it entertainment but something is studying your appetite.
- 3:04In part four, we dealt with fake connections.
- 3:09Everybody can't reach you but nobody really knows where you are bleeding and
- 3:16today we deal with survival,
- 3:20not money only not bills only not pressure only we are going after the quiet
- 3:27thing that happens when survival becomes the ruler of your life,
- 3:32because yes life is expensive yes responsibility is heavy Yes,
- 3:40people are carrying more than they say.
- 3:44But legacy builders do not stop at naming the pressure.
- 3:48We name the pressure, we refuse the excuse, we own the response,
- 3:54and we make the move. So let's talk about it.
- 3:58The real problem is not that you have responsibilities. Responsible people carry things.
- 4:04That is part of maturity. The real problem is when responsibility becomes so
- 4:09loud that purpose gets quiet.
- 4:12The real problem is when bills become the only language your life understands.
- 4:18The real problem is when your week becomes a cycle of work, pay,
- 4:24recover, stress, repeat.
- 4:27Work, pay, recover, stress, repeat.
- 4:30This is a mechanical wheel that
- 4:32runs you into the ground while everyone applauds how hard your drive is.
- 4:39And then one day, you look up and you are not building.
- 4:45You are maintaining. You are
- 4:47not leading. You are reacting. You are not dreaming. You are calculating.
- 4:53You are not becoming.
- 4:54You are surviving. And because survival feels responsible, nobody questions it.
- 5:01People respect it. People applaud it. People say, that's life. Welcome to adulthood.
- 5:09You gotta do what you gotta do.
- 5:12And sometimes that's true. But sometimes, sometimes doing what you gotta do
- 5:18becomes the excuse for never asking what you were called to build.
- 5:23That is where it gets dangerous because survival can look noble while quietly burying vision.
- 5:32Survival can make you feel productive while slowly starving your purpose.
- 5:38Survival can keep your bills paid and still leave your soul bankrupt.
- 5:45That is the real issue.
- 5:48Let me say this clean. Pressure is real. But pressure is not permission to disappear.
- 5:55Bills are real. But bills are not your identity. Responsibility is real.
- 6:01But responsibility is not an excuse to abandon purpose.
- 6:06Survival may be your strategy, but it cannot become your sovereign ruler.
- 6:12Because your inner throne is never empty. Something is always sitting on it.
- 6:17Fear can sit there. Debit can sit there. Pressure can sit there.
- 6:23Survival can sit there. Exhaustion can sit there. The need to keep up can sit there.
- 6:30And if survival sits on the throne long enough, purpose becomes a visitor in your own life.
- 6:37You will only see it sometimes when you're inspired, when you are tired of routine.
- 6:45When a podcast episode hits too close When the house gets quiet,
- 6:51When you remember the dream But then Monday comes The bill comes The pressure
- 6:56comes The schedule comes The purpose gets pushed back Into the corner again No,
- 7:05we're not having that That cannot be your normal Legacy builders do not deny
- 7:10survival But they do not worship it either Here's the first truth.
- 7:16Survival can be necessary, but it cannot become your identity.
- 7:21There are seasons where you have to survive. There are seasons where you have to tighten up.
- 7:27There are seasons where you have to work extra. There are seasons where you have to sacrifice.
- 7:34There are seasons where you have to carry what nobody sees.
- 7:38I'm not going to disrespect that.
- 7:41But there is a difference between being in survival season and becoming a survival person.
- 7:49A survival season says, this is what I'm walking through.
- 7:54A survival identity says, this is all I am now.
- 8:00A survival season requires focus. A survival identity creates blindness.
- 8:07A survival season can teach discipline.
- 8:10A survival identity can kill the vision. And some of you have been in survival
- 8:16long enough that we could hear it in your voice.
- 8:20You could hear the defeat.
- 8:22You could hear that you've given up. You stopped recognizing when it started leading you.
- 8:29Do not ask, what am I building? You ask, what's due?
- 8:35You don't ask, what needs to change? You ask, what can I afford?
- 8:40You do not ask, what is God trying to form in me? You ask, how do I make it through this week?
- 8:49And again, those questions matter. They do, but they cannot be the only questions
- 8:55because if survival is the only question, then your purpose will always sound unrealistic.
- 9:01Vision will always feel inconvenient. Growth will always seem expensive.
- 9:07Discipline will always feel like extra.
- 9:10And rest will always feel like something you have to earn after you almost break.
- 9:18That is not a legacy. That is just an automated billing cycle with a pause.
- 9:24Let me stop you right here. Some of you are not tired because you work hard.
- 9:30You are tired because your life has no room to mean anything beyond keeping up.
- 9:35That's the difference. You are not just exhausted from responsibility.
- 9:40You are exhausted from a life that keeps demanding payment, but rarely gives you a purpose.
- 9:47You are exhausted from waking up, not to build, but to catch up.
- 9:54You are exhausted from moving.
- 9:57But not advancing. You're exhausted from paying for a life that you barely get to live.
- 10:06That line may hurt. Good, because some truth has to hurt before it heals.
- 10:13And let's not play games. Some of you have been using responsibility as a hiding place.
- 10:20You say, I don't have time right now.
- 10:23I'm too busy right now. I'm just trying to get stable right now.
- 10:28I'll focus on that later. I'll get serious after things calm down. But let's be real.
- 10:37What if that storm never stops?
- 10:41What if that storm keeps coming over and over?
- 10:44What if the bills keep coming until the day that you die are you going to wait
- 10:49for a permission slip from your debit to start living or are you going to learn
- 10:55how to build while the fires are still burning around you,
- 11:00that is the question that is what i want you to think about tonight responsibility
- 11:07is good but responsibility without outdirection becomes a golden cage.
- 11:16Because you can be responsible and still be stuck,
- 11:21you can be dependable and still be drifting you can pay everything on time and
- 11:27still be laid to your own life,
- 11:31you can provide and still be disappearing you can keep lights on you can.
- 11:39You can't keep the lights on while something inside of you keeps going into the dark.
- 11:47That's dangerous. People think responsibility automatically equals alignment. It does not.
- 11:55Not at all. Responsibility is what you carry.
- 11:59Direction is where you are going. And if you're carrying responsibility without
- 12:04direction, you become strong enough to endure a life.
- 12:08You were supposed to rebuild.
- 12:11That one matters because some people are proud of surviving things they were supposed to confront,
- 12:19proud of carrying things they were supposed to reorganize, proud of enduring
- 12:24patterns they were supposed to interrupt,
- 12:27proud of being dependable while quietly resenting everybody who depends on them.
- 12:34I'm not saying abandon responsibilities That's not what we're saying here.
- 12:39That's not the conversation. No, we do not do reckless. We do not do childish. We do not do escape.
- 12:47We do not do blame.
- 12:49We lead. We confront.
- 12:52But leadership means asking, where is all this carrying taking me?
- 12:58Is this pressure producing maturity or just keeping me busy?
- 13:02Am I building something or only preventing collapse?
- 13:07Because if all your energy goes towards preventing collapse,
- 13:11let me tell you, eventually your life becomes one long emergency.
- 13:16And emergencies are not meant to become your identity.
- 13:20So let's make this personal. Are you building a life or just trying to afford one?
- 13:27Are you leading your money or just reacting to it?
- 13:31Are you leading your schedule or just surviving it? Are you making decisions
- 13:36or just paying consequences?
- 13:39Are you building vision or just covering responsibilities?
- 13:44Are you living or only maintaining?
- 13:48When was the last time you did something that reminded you your life is more than bills?
- 13:53When was the last time you had a conversation that fed your purpose?
- 13:59When was the last time you looked at your numbers honestly instead of letting,
- 14:05anxiety keep them blurry?
- 14:08When was the last time you made a plan instead of making another excuse?
- 14:14When was the last time you asked, what am I becoming inside this pressure?
- 14:19Not what do I owe, not what is due, not what is broken, not what needs to be
- 14:27handled, but what am I becoming?
- 14:31Because pressure does not just affect your wallet. Pressure affects your identity.
- 14:36It affects your patience, your marriage, your parenting, your health,
- 14:41your relationships, your faith.
- 14:43Your confidence, your ability to dream, your ability to rest,
- 14:47your ability to hear God, your ability to be present in the now,
- 14:53your ability to be thankful of your blessings for today.
- 14:57And if you never ask what survival is doing to you, you may keep affording a
- 15:02life while losing the person who was supposed to live it.
- 15:08That is the mirror. Here's one of the most dangerous phrases people live by.
- 15:14When I get caught up, I will rest. When I get caught up, I'll start training.
- 15:19When I get caught up, I'll spend more time with the family.
- 15:23When I get caught up, I'll work on my dream. When I get caught up, I'll pray like I need to.
- 15:30When I get caught up, I'll get healthy again.
- 15:34When I get caught up, I'll finally breathe.
- 15:37But let me ask you this. What if caught up keeps moving?
- 15:42What if every time you get close, the line moves?
- 15:46Something else appears. What if the next bill comes?
- 15:51The next repair comes? The next responsibility comes? The next emergency comes?
- 15:56The next unexpected thing shows up?
- 15:59What if caught up is not a place you arrive, but a line that keeps running from
- 16:05you, then you have to make a decision.
- 16:09You either keep postponing your life until everything is perfect,
- 16:15or you start building rhythm inside imperfection.
- 16:20You start living with stewardship inside pressure.
- 16:24You stop waiting for the perfect condition to become faithful.
- 16:28Because if you only move when life is easy, life will lead you every time it
- 16:35gets hard and the world can get loud, but it does not get to lead you,
- 16:43not even through survival.
- 16:46Here is the hard line. Survival can make purpose feel selfish. That is what it does.
- 16:55When pressure gets heavy, anything beyond maintenance starts feeling irresponsible.
- 17:01Dreaming feels irresponsible. Rest feels irresponsible. Training feels irresponsible.
- 17:07Reading feels irresponsible.
- 17:10Building something new feels irresponsible.
- 17:13Taking care of your body feels irresponsible. investing in your growth feels irresponsible,
- 17:20saying no feels irresponsible and before you know it you start treating your
- 17:26own becoming like a luxury you cannot afford,
- 17:30that is how purpose gets,
- 17:32buried not always by laziness sometimes by responsibilities with no boundaries
- 17:39sometimes by bills with no plan,
- 17:41sometimes by pressure with no leadership, sometimes by trying to be everything
- 17:47for everybody until there is nothing left for what God put inside of you.
- 17:54And I need you to hear this. Your purpose is not extra.
- 17:58Your health is not extra. Your faith is not extra. Your family is not extra.
- 18:04Your growth is not extra. Your calling is not extra.
- 18:09Those are not decorations you add after survival is handled.
- 18:14Those are part of the life you are responsible to store.
- 18:18If your survival forces you to liquidate your own soul to keep the lights on,
- 18:23then survival has become a false king.
- 18:27And false kings have to be dethroned.
- 18:31See scripture talks about stewardship Not panic Not anxiety Stewardship That
- 18:38matters Because stewardship Does not deny responsibility.
- 18:43Organizes it. Stewardship does not pretend pressure is not real.
- 18:49It brings order inside pressure.
- 18:52Stewardship does not say, I have no bills.
- 18:56It says, I will not let the bills become my God.
- 18:59Stewardship does not say, I have no fear. It says, fear will not be my financial advisor.
- 19:07Stewardship does not say I have no pressure.
- 19:11It says pressure will not be the Lord of my decisions.
- 19:16And some of you need to return to stewardship. Not shame, not panic,
- 19:22not avoidance. Stewardship.
- 19:25Because God did not call you to be careless. But He also did not call you to
- 19:31disappear inside maintenance.
- 19:35You are not just here to keep things from falling apart You are here to build,
- 19:42To serve To lead To grow To store what is in your hands,
- 19:48To be responsible for your blessings Without losing sight of what is in your
- 19:53spirit That is the balance That is the work.
- 20:00That is sovereignty So what do we do?
- 20:04Do not blame the pressure. We do not deny the bills.
- 20:09We do not romanticize struggle. We do not act irresponsible.
- 20:14We take authority. Here's the move.
- 20:18Tell the truth about the numbers. Stop letting vulgar fear lead you. Write it down.
- 20:25What comes in? What goes out? What keeps draining you?
- 20:28What is actually necessary and what is just an emotional purchase to numb the stress.
- 20:35What are you avoiding? What are you pretending not to see?
- 20:40Because blurred numbers create loud anxiety and loud anxiety eats people.
- 20:46Clarity may not fix everything immediately, but it gives Leadership A place
- 20:52to stand Separate survival from identity,
- 20:57Say it clearly This is pressure This is not my whole life This is a season This is not my name,
- 21:05This is responsibility This is not my identity This is something I must steward
- 21:13This is not something I must worship You need the language like that.
- 21:19Because if you do not separate survival from identity, you will start calling pressure me.
- 21:26And pressure is not you.
- 21:29Your current circumstances is not who you are. It is something you are walking through.
- 21:35It is the storm that you're in. Something you are leading.
- 21:41Something you are learning from.
- 21:43Something you are organizing. but it is not allowed to become the whole definition of your life.
- 21:51Put one piece of life back on the calendar.
- 21:55Not a fantasy, not a vacation you cannot afford, not something dramatic.
- 22:01Dramatic, one piece of life, a walk, a workout, a meal with someone you love,
- 22:08a prayer block, a budget night, a conversation, a creative hour,
- 22:13a quiet morning, a date with your spouse,
- 22:17time with your children without the phone, something that says,
- 22:22still here, my life is more than maintenance.
- 22:27I can store pressure without surrendering presence.
- 22:31Because if you wait for life to feel spacious before you start living,
- 22:37you may keep postponing the very thing that will give you strength.
- 22:44Here is your 24-hour pressure test. In the next 24 hours, write down three things.
- 22:51Number one, what comes in? Number two, what goes out?
- 22:57Number three, what keeps draining you? No drama, no shame, no pretending, just truth, honesty.
- 23:06Then write down one thing your life still needs besides survival. One thing, not 10.
- 23:13One maybe peace maybe health maybe structure maybe rest maybe prayer,
- 23:20maybe a conversation maybe a plan maybe time with your family with your loved
- 23:26ones maybe a small step towards that dream that you have then schedule it,
- 23:31not someday not when things calm down put it somewhere real,
- 23:37because legacy builders do not wait for pressure to disappear.
- 23:41They learn how to lead inside of it.
- 23:44Legacy builders, this is your checkpoint. Has survival become your identity?
- 23:50Have you been so busy affording life that you stopped building one?
- 23:55Have you been so focused on what is due that you forgot what is still possible?
- 24:02Have you been calling that responsibility when part of it has become avoidance?
- 24:08Have you been waiting to get caught up while your life keeps passing you by?
- 24:14Have you let pressure sit on the throne? And where do you need to take authority back?
- 24:20Not with fantasy, with stewardship, not with blame, with clarity,
- 24:26not with shame, with movement.
- 24:28Because pressure is real but pressure is not permission to disappear.
- 24:34Before we close, if this episode found you in survival mode,
- 24:39do not just nod your head and disappear.
- 24:43If you're listening to this on a web browser or a link someone might have sent
- 24:48you or texted you, don't let this be a temporary visit.
- 24:53Hit follow right now on Spotify or Apple podcast.
- 24:58Legacy builders do not just visit truth. They stay connected to it.
- 25:03And if this message made you think of someone who has been trying to afford
- 25:08life, but slowly losing themselves inside, send it to them.
- 25:13No long explanation. Just send it and say, hey, listen to this one.
- 25:19And Thursdays, make sure you catch our new episode that we're launching.
- 25:25It's a different rhythm, but the same truth.
- 25:28Don't miss it. Let's lock this in.
- 25:31You are not here just to afford life you are here to build one survival can be necessary,
- 25:40but it cannot become your identity responsibility without direction becomes
- 25:45a cage when I get caught up can become a lie.
- 25:53Survival can make purpose feel selfish but purpose is not extra,
- 25:58health is not extra faith is not extra family is not extra growth is not extra,
- 26:05your life is not extra it's a blessing so tell the truth about the numbers,
- 26:12separate survival from identity.
- 26:16And put one piece of life back on the calendar because you were built to store
- 26:23responsibility not disappear inside of it.
- 26:29Things in this season we're going to keep confronting. Not because we're trying
- 26:34to escape responsibility, because we refuse to be ruled by it.
- 26:40The world may get expensive. The pressure may get heavy. The bills may keep coming.
- 26:46The responsibilities may keep knocking.
- 26:50But legacy builders we do not blame pressure we do not worship pressure we do
- 26:57not let survival become a king,
- 27:01we steward we lead we organize we confront we build we take,
- 27:08we take the wheel back take control so this week look at the numbers name the
- 27:15pressure refuse the excuse own the response make the move and remember this,
- 27:24if all you do is afford the life but never built the life eventually you may
- 27:30pay for everything and still feel like you lost yourself that cannot be your story,
- 27:38the world can get loud life can get expensive pressure can get real but it does not get to lead you,
- 27:47this is the eminence legacy podcast i'm jose luis cadena.
- 27:53And remember together let's rise to our eminence pay the bills just don't let
- 28:01them buy your soul wake up it's time to go.
