- 0:00Speaker 1: The Hodaki Big Show.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Thanks to Craveworthy Street Food.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Freshly made with Reburger.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Don't fight it.
- 0:10Speaker 2: It's time to go up a size.
- 0:12Speaker 4: This is the biggest.
- 0:13Speaker 3: The biggest.
- 0:13Speaker 5: The biggest.
- 0:13Speaker 1: This is the biggest.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Our biggest show.
- 0:15Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show.
- 0:17Speaker 3: With Jason Hoyt, Mike.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Minogue and Keezy.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Yeah, g'day you massive backbones. It's the Hodaki Big Show
- 0:23Speaker 3: with Mike Minogue and Pugs. As always, brought to you
- 0:27Speaker 3: by our good mates... Over at Reburger there, crave-worthy street food,
- 0:30Speaker 3: freshly made with Reburger.
- 0:32Speaker 6: Scrumptiously umptious. I notice that you've put away your radio voice, man.
- 0:38Speaker 3: No reason, man. Just trying to... Just trying to chill out.
- 0:41Speaker 6: Can we have a version of you doing your radio voice?
- 0:44Speaker 6: Can we see what the difference is?
- 0:45Speaker 3: Okay, I won't start it from the start. Get out,
- 0:48Speaker 3: you mad bastards. It's the hierarchy big show.
- 0:51Speaker 6: It's not a million miles. You know what it is?
- 0:53Speaker 3: It's because I used to do regional radio, and it
- 0:55Speaker 3: was very commercial, very family-focused. And so it's really like
- 1:00Speaker 3: a crutch to do a radio voice.
- 1:03Speaker 5: Oh, 100%.
- 1:03Speaker 6: And still sound professional. But also, Jace does it.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Chase does it.
- 1:07Speaker 6: At the top of the show in the four o'clock hour.
- 1:09Speaker 6: He doesn't do it at five or six, but at
- 1:11Speaker 6: the top of the show he does the big one.
- 1:12Speaker 3: See, I haven't noticed that so much. You kind of
- 1:16Speaker 3: temper it off there.
- 1:17Speaker 6: He's over it by five.
- 1:18Speaker 3: But I certainly haven't had any feedback on three.
- 1:20Speaker 6: Oh, there's been no text coming in calling you a
- 1:22Speaker 6: piece of air soon.
- 1:25Speaker 3: For no reason.
- 1:26Speaker 6: It's an interesting one, though, and we should probably talk
- 1:28Speaker 6: about this a little bit, but When you first start
- 1:30Speaker 6: on radio, the best thing about it in the world
- 1:32Speaker 6: is everyone who hates your guts will text the show
- 1:35Speaker 6: to let you know.
- 1:36Speaker 3: 100%.
- 1:37Speaker 6: And you do read all of them, and it takes
- 1:40Speaker 6: a while to build up a thick enough skin to
- 1:41Speaker 6: not care enough. I think what happens is you either
- 1:45Speaker 6: get good enough that people stop texting, or they hate
- 1:47Speaker 6: you so much that they stop listening. Absolutely. So then
- 1:50Speaker 6: they don't text anymore.
- 1:51Speaker 3: I'd rather the former.
- 1:52Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:53Speaker 3: But I also, there is probably a yarn in it
- 1:55Speaker 3: for another day, but I have my first hater on Instagram.
- 1:58Speaker 5: Oh, great.
- 1:58Speaker 3: On the Hauraki Big Show Instagram. And Dilly, you've seen
- 2:01Speaker 3: it as well. Yeah, you know who I'm talking about.
- 2:03Speaker 3: We'll get into it another day. But anyway, how are
- 2:05Speaker 3: you going? Great.
- 2:06Speaker 6: Well, you're great knowing that you've got a hater. That's
- 2:08Speaker 6: Chebmy Ryder. Cheers. I look forward to reading that comment
- 2:12Speaker 6: as the next song plays. But yeah, we've got a
- 2:16Speaker 6: bit on today, fella. Yeah, boy.
- 2:21Speaker 3: What's happening on The Big Show with Old Mogi?
- 2:24Speaker 6: Look, the guests keep on rolling in. We've got Wilson Dixon,
- 2:27Speaker 6: who's going to be with us after 5 o'clock, the
- 2:30Speaker 6: magnificent US-based musician. We'll be talking a little bit about
- 2:36Speaker 6: the Rugby League World Cup, which is happening from next
- 2:41Speaker 6: Thursday when Australia play against New Zealand over in Sydney.
- 2:46Speaker 6: We'll be talking about the squads that have been named.
- 2:48Speaker 6: Holy heck, man, there are some players. I know you
- 2:51Speaker 6: love your rugby league. Yeah, I love it. So we'll
- 2:54Speaker 6: be talking to Will from the This Warrior's Life podcast
- 2:56Speaker 6: about that. And up next, Pugs, you're on this sort
- 2:59Speaker 6: of house-sitting rampage. Everybody's getting you in. It's like you're squatting, actually.
- 3:04Speaker 6: Something sad about it. But anyway.
- 3:06Speaker 3: There's something I'm avoiding about home.
- 3:08Speaker 6: I think so. But... You've had a shocker, and we're
- 3:11Speaker 6: going to hear all about it.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Yeah, let's just say I left something behind, and I'm
- 3:14Speaker 3: trying to figure out how to approach it. And also,
- 3:17Speaker 3: we want to hear from you, 3483, every text, every
- 3:19Speaker 3: call in the draw for a $ 50 reburger voucher. We
- 3:22Speaker 3: also want name suggestions for the show, so keep those coming.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Here's Queens of the Stone Age on the Hauraki Big Show.
- 3:28Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 3:32Speaker 3: It's Radiohead on the Hauraki Big Show with Pugs and Mogi.
- 3:38Speaker 3: And as you know, Mogi, I've been house-sitting. I just
- 3:40Speaker 3: finished up at Jase's house, left there today. But before that,
- 3:43Speaker 3: I was actually house-sitting for somebody else in a different
- 3:47Speaker 3: suburb of Auckland. And I was there for a month.
- 3:50Speaker 3: It was me and my partner, and they just got
- 3:53Speaker 3: back to their house today. So they said a couple
- 3:55Speaker 3: of days was fine to leave it and go back
- 3:58Speaker 3: two hours. And so that's when we house sat for Jase. Now,
- 4:01Speaker 3: over that month, obviously when we moved all our stuff in,
- 4:04Speaker 3: we kind of just got all our bags, jammed everything
- 4:06Speaker 3: that we wanted in there, took them to the house
- 4:08Speaker 3: and kind of unpacked it sort of willy-nilly. And there
- 4:11Speaker 3: was a small bag that had a laptop charger in
- 4:14Speaker 3: it of my partner's. Yes. We could not find that
- 4:18Speaker 3: bag anywhere. the entire time we were there. We searched
- 4:22Speaker 3: everywhere that we'd unpacked our bags. We also searched her car.
- 4:26Speaker 3: We also went back to our place, assuming that it
- 4:28Speaker 3: might be there. And there was something else in that
- 4:32Speaker 3: bag that is unmentionable on the show.
- 4:36Speaker 6: Is it the sort of thing that's been mentioned on
- 4:38Speaker 6: the show?
- 4:40Speaker 3: It's been mentioned on the show. I will not be
- 4:42Speaker 3: mentioning it out of respect. Okay?
- 4:44Speaker 6: Okay. That's good stuff. That's what I always keep with
- 4:47Speaker 6: my laptop charger as well.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Well, it's one of those things that you kind of
- 4:50Speaker 3: just like.
- 4:51Speaker 6: Is it so powerful that it needs a laptop charger?
- 4:54Speaker 6: It needs a car battery. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:57Speaker 3: So it was in the same bag because it was
- 4:58Speaker 3: one of those ones where you're just like.
- 5:00Speaker 6: Hang on a minute, hang on a minute, hang on
- 5:01Speaker 6: a minute. Let's just sit with that for a minute.
- 5:05Speaker 6: That's good stuff. Yeah.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Now, the couple that we were house sitting for is
- 5:10Speaker 3: about 70 years old. Sure. And they get back today.
- 5:15Speaker 3: We've been looking for it this whole time. And last night,
- 5:18Speaker 3: going to sleep, my partner goes, I can't sleep because
- 5:21Speaker 3: I'm thinking about them getting home.
- 5:23Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:24Speaker 3: And I don't know.
- 5:24Speaker 6: How I'm going to deal with this. That's disgusting, isn't it?
- 5:27Speaker 3: And I go to sleep.
- 5:28Speaker 6: I mean, think of those poor people, Pace.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Okay, let me get the yarn out.
- 5:32Speaker 6: I can't, man. I'm just thinking about it.
- 5:34Speaker 3: I go to sleep, and then I wake up to
- 5:37Speaker 3: her saying, I left it in the bedside table. I
- 5:39Speaker 3: left it in the bedside table. I left it in
- 5:41Speaker 3: the bedside table.
- 5:42Speaker 6: That's a strange place to leave a laptop charger. What
- 5:48Speaker 6: else was in the bag? Unmentionable.
- 5:51Speaker 3: So they get home today. No doubt they'll probably look
- 5:57Speaker 3: in said bedside table at some point today. I have
- 6:00Speaker 3: no idea how best to approach going back for those things.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Because she needs her laptop charger. That's a work laptop charger.
- 6:09Speaker 3: And it's probably not ideal to leave....
- 6:12Speaker 6: I disagree. I disagree. I think the approach here is
- 6:18Speaker 6: it's not yours. So when they find it, you just
- 6:21Speaker 6: play dumb. Sorry, never seen it before. Go and buy
- 6:25Speaker 6: a new laptop charger and whatever the other thing is.
- 6:28Speaker 6: Never bring it up with them. No, you don't bring
- 6:29Speaker 6: it up. They're going to find it. They're going to say,
- 6:31Speaker 6: did you leave?
- 6:32Speaker 3: No.
- 6:33Speaker 6: Absolutely not because we found a laptop charger and that
- 6:37Speaker 6: other thing. Jeez. Is that yours?
- 6:40Speaker 3: Yes. So I have to say no.
- 6:43Speaker 6: Well.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Because the only difference.
- 6:45Speaker 6: I think they're going to know. Well, it's one of
- 6:49Speaker 6: those things where you agree to disagree. Everybody acts like
- 6:51Speaker 6: they don't know what's going on. The alternative is, of course,
- 6:54Speaker 6: is that you protect your partner's shame and you say
- 7:00Speaker 6: that the deli is yours. The what?
- 7:02Speaker 3: I never said that. Never said that.
- 7:05Speaker 6: You would say that the belongings in the bag are
- 7:08Speaker 6: all yours. Would you be willing to do that?
- 7:12Speaker 3: This is the thing is that I, I am tempted
- 7:15Speaker 3: and I feel like that would be the honorable thing
- 7:17Speaker 3: to do for my partner, but I genuinely don't know
- 7:19Speaker 3: how to bring it up with him. We have a
- 7:22Speaker 3: group chat with all four of us. So me, my
- 7:24Speaker 3: partner and them, and I'm terrified that something's going to
- 7:27Speaker 3: come through on my phone. So I kind of, I
- 7:29Speaker 3: don't know how best to approach it, and I'm wondering
- 7:32Speaker 3: whether you listening have either dealt with it before or
- 7:36Speaker 3: just what you would do.
- 7:37Speaker 6: I think any kind of advice, 3483, or give us
- 7:39Speaker 6: a call on 0800 Hauraki. It's an interesting one, Pikes,
- 7:42Speaker 6: and I'm being very relaxed about this because it's not me. Yes.
- 7:45Speaker 6: But if it was me, I would be dying a death.
- 7:48Speaker 6: That makes me feel so, so much better.
- 7:51Speaker 3: That's good stuff. 3483 or 0800 Hauraki, please help me
- 8:00Speaker 3: and my partner evidently. And $ 50 Reburg vouchers up for
- 8:05Speaker 3: grabs if we get you on the line with a
- 8:07Speaker 3: good enough yarn. In the meantime, shall we spin some tool?
- 8:10Speaker 6: All right, good.
- 8:14Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 8:18Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 8:20Speaker 3: That's the Fooies on the Hauraki Big Show with Mogi
- 8:23Speaker 3: and Pugs. I was just regaling Mogi before of a
- 8:26Speaker 3: story where I house sat for a couple probably in
- 8:30Speaker 3: their late 60s, early 70s for about a month and
- 8:34Speaker 3: I left behind something unmentionable in their bedside table and
- 8:39Speaker 3: I'm trying to figure out the best way to sort
- 8:40Speaker 3: of handle that.
- 8:42Speaker 6: How to get it back without it becoming a conversation.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Yes.
- 8:44Speaker 6: Well, it's tricky, isn't it? Because you won't tell us
- 8:46Speaker 6: what's in the bag. All you'll say is that it's
- 8:48Speaker 6: your partner. Is this text on 3483? We need to
- 8:51Speaker 6: know what's in the bag with the charge cord, and
- 8:53Speaker 6: then we can help.
- 8:55Speaker 3: See, the way that you grin as you ask me
- 8:56Speaker 3: that question means you don't need me to tell you shit,
- 8:59Speaker 3: and that it's already pretty clear what it is.
- 9:01Speaker 6: So whose is it? It's ours. That's nice, man.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:06Speaker 6: Great. You both use it. That's great.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Your.
- 9:14Speaker 3: It's unmentionable. I'm going red. Your idea, Mogi, was to
- 9:22Speaker 3: never bring it up again and assume that they would
- 9:25Speaker 3: also not do that.
- 9:27Speaker 6: It's an idea where everyone just, you know, very old-fashioned
- 9:30Speaker 6: sort of people, you know, some things are best left unspoken. But,
- 9:35Speaker 6: you know, you're also young people and any little thing
- 9:38Speaker 6: that you've got is precious to you because you're so broke.
- 9:42Speaker 6: So my thing would simply be to deny any knowledge
- 9:44Speaker 6: of it when they accuse you of owning it. You
- 9:46Speaker 6: simply say, I've never seen it before in my life.
- 9:48Speaker 6: Another text here, 3483, says you could just go for
- 9:53Speaker 6: the soft and indirect approach of bringing it up on
- 9:55Speaker 6: the radio.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought that was a good shout. I mean,
- 9:58Speaker 3: knowing their age, I know that they're not listening to
- 9:59Speaker 3: the big show.
- 10:00Speaker 6: Oh, no, no, I disagree.
- 10:03Speaker 3: I also cleared this with my partner before bringing it
- 10:05Speaker 3: up on air, just so everybody's clear on that.
- 10:09Speaker 6: Come on, man.
- 10:12Speaker 3: All of these texts are in the drawer for a
- 10:14Speaker 3: re-big about you.
- 10:15Speaker 6: This one here, time to move to Belize and change
- 10:17Speaker 6: your name to Ernesto. It's not a bad idea.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Moving to Belize.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:24Speaker 6: There is a certain amount of shame around it. I'm
- 10:26Speaker 6: sure probably your partner was feeling more of it than
- 10:29Speaker 6: you were. Not shame, but just like, oh, my God,
- 10:31Speaker 6: how am I going to handle it? In that age gap,
- 10:33Speaker 6: it's parental. It's even further than parental.
- 10:36Speaker 3: It's like grand parental.
- 10:37Speaker 6: They're kind of strangers as well. It's not a great situation, Pugs.
- 10:43Speaker 6: I worry, man.
- 10:43Speaker 3: But they're also not far enough separated to not tell
- 10:47Speaker 3: somebody else that we know.
- 10:48Speaker 6: I bet they're very, very sexually enlightened people. Not that
- 10:52Speaker 6: that's got anything to do with a laptop charger.
- 10:56Speaker 3: No, that has nothing to do with the laptop charger.
- 10:58Speaker 3: And in all honesty, they are a lovely couple. And
- 11:01Speaker 3: particularly the lady in this couple, she seems like she
- 11:06Speaker 3: would be a girl's girl. Like she'd be cool about it.
- 11:09Speaker 6: You know what I mean?
- 11:10Speaker 3: Like obviously it's awkward, but it's just more how do
- 11:13Speaker 3: I deal with it? How do I get it back
- 11:16Speaker 3: if I get it back? I'm not really sure.
- 11:19Speaker 6: Well, look, I'm interested to see how it proceeds. That's
- 11:22Speaker 6: for sure. Keep us updated.
- 11:25Speaker 3: I will, Mogi. I will be thrilled to give you
- 11:29Speaker 3: the update on what happened to my laptop charger.
- 11:30Speaker 6: It's good stuff. With these ideas, keep them coming.
- 11:34Speaker 3: 3483.
- 11:34Speaker 6: It's good stuff.
- 11:36Speaker 3: It's a shocker. Hey, after the break, we're going to
- 11:39Speaker 3: chat to Will Evans from This Warrior's Life for some
- 11:42Speaker 3: League World Cup chat. Is that right, Mogi?
- 11:44Speaker 6: Yeah, 100%. We are very excited to see the Rugby
- 11:47Speaker 6: League World Cup kicking off next Thursday evening over in Australia. Australia,
- 11:51Speaker 6: the Kangaroos versus the Kiwis. The squads are absolutely out
- 11:55Speaker 6: the gate. I'm very excited.
- 11:57Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 12:00Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 12:03Speaker 3: It's Green Day on the Hauraki Big Show. You've got
- 12:05Speaker 3: Mogi and Pugs.
- 12:08Speaker 6: Straight out the backside of the NRL Grand Final and
- 12:11Speaker 6: a thousand rounds of Rugby League. We've had a chance
- 12:14Speaker 6: to catch our breath. It's been three days. And now
- 12:17Speaker 6: we stand in the shadows of the 2026 Rugby League
- 12:21Speaker 6: World Cup. It kicks off Next Thursday, I believe, Thursday
- 12:26Speaker 6: evening between Australia and New Zealand. And over the last
- 12:29Speaker 6: couple of days, we've seen the announcement of the squads
- 12:32Speaker 6: from all of the nations that are involved. And we've
- 12:36Speaker 6: got on the line Will Evans from the unbelievable This
- 12:39Speaker 6: Warrior's Life podcast where they talk about everything Warriors every
- 12:42Speaker 6: single week. One of my most addictive podcasts. If you
- 12:45Speaker 6: haven't listened to it, get into it. Will, how are you,
- 12:48Speaker 6: you son of a bee? Yeah, good, mate.
- 12:51Speaker 5: Bit anxious about no footy this weekend, but excited to
- 12:55Speaker 5: pivot from NRL into World Cup next week.
- 12:57Speaker 3: How good?
- 12:58Speaker 6: It's pretty good, isn't it? You know, you have your
- 13:00Speaker 6: 27 regular rounds, you have your final series, you've got
- 13:04Speaker 6: your state of origin, you get a week or two off,
- 13:06Speaker 6: then you're into your Rugby League World Cup, which is unbelievable.
- 13:10Speaker 6: By the end of that, you find yourself at Christmas
- 13:12Speaker 6: Day and you're just running it straight at the nieces
- 13:14Speaker 6: and nephews.
- 13:16Speaker 5: Yeah, that's right, mate. You've got to... You want that
- 13:19Speaker 5: off-season to be as short as possible.
- 13:21Speaker 6: That's right. So a bit of training in the harsh
- 13:23Speaker 6: summer heat, man. What do you make of the Kiwis team?
- 13:27Speaker 6: It got announced, I believe, yesterday. Jeez, man. She's a
- 13:31Speaker 6: hell of a line-up.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Yeah, looking very, very strong. That 1-17 is pretty mouth-watering.
- 13:38Speaker 5: Obviously chucking Caelan Ponga in there is such a massive coup.
- 13:42Speaker 5: Dane Gagai coming from the clouds to plug a bit
- 13:44Speaker 5: of a gap at centre. And yeah, looking strong across
- 13:48Speaker 5: the board. I will say we've picked about 65 props.
- 13:52Speaker 6: Yeah, you can't have too many props, man. That's right.
- 13:55Speaker 5: And it's left us a little bit thin in some
- 13:57Speaker 5: other areas and maybe that's a depth issue in the Kiwis' ranks.
- 14:01Speaker 5: But you've got... Chance Nichol-Clogstad, pretty much your first drop
- 14:04Speaker 5: centre and winger, and also covering a bit of fullback
- 14:08Speaker 5: in 5'8. So, yeah, I don't know where they're going
- 14:10Speaker 5: to cram all those props into the line-up, but they've
- 14:14Speaker 5: got some good ones, so you may as well take it.
- 14:16Speaker 6: That's a really interesting read, because I just go through
- 14:19Speaker 6: the line-up and I'm like, oh, yeah, I love that player.
- 14:22Speaker 6: I don't think about who's going to be on the
- 14:23Speaker 6: field at any given time. I'm assuming that a lot
- 14:26Speaker 6: of people just get picked based on how good they
- 14:28Speaker 6: are at sinking cans.
- 14:31Speaker 5: Yeah, well, you know, in a long tournament campaign like this,
- 14:35Speaker 5: you can't discount that value. So I'm sure there's a
- 14:38Speaker 5: bit of a personality element to some of the selections,
- 14:41Speaker 5: I'm sure. But yeah, everyone there can play a massive
- 14:45Speaker 5: part in the campaign. But I will say if there's
- 14:47Speaker 5: an injury or two, we might be looking a little thin,
- 14:50Speaker 5: just one hooker picked. Obviously got a few fallback options,
- 14:54Speaker 5: but yeah, halves again. Just got Tamati Martin really as
- 14:57Speaker 5: a specialist behind probably the first choice, Jerome Hughes and
- 15:01Speaker 5: Cody Nicarima. But yeah, certainly no worries about depth in
- 15:06Speaker 5: that middle forward department. I don't know how they're going
- 15:08Speaker 5: to pick a side that's going to be some good players.
- 15:10Speaker 6: Mate, I can't wait. Honestly, I absolutely love the Rugby
- 15:13Speaker 6: League World Cup. And since you've had all of the
- 15:15Speaker 6: players sort of, Going back to their country of origin,
- 15:20Speaker 6: I guess you could say, Jason Tomololo spearheading that a
- 15:23Speaker 6: few years ago now, and the Tonga team is absolutely stacked,
- 15:27Speaker 6: as is Samoa. It really has evened things up where
- 15:30Speaker 6: it used to be a bit of a one-horse race, really.
- 15:33Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely. Both those sides look outstanding. They've got plenty
- 15:38Speaker 5: of players that feature deep into the final series and
- 15:40Speaker 5: on grand final night, just in that Tonga line-up now.
- 15:43Speaker 5: You've got Robert Toya, who a bit of a loss
- 15:46Speaker 5: for Australia, pledged for Tonga. Celeste Vakiti, a bit of
- 15:50Speaker 5: a bolter in the back row there, but he's been
- 15:53Speaker 5: an absolute sensation. CY Wong, underrated rooster, second rower too,
- 15:58Speaker 5: and that's on top of, you know, Isaiah Gatoa and
- 16:00Speaker 5: all those guys that you mentioned before, the.
- 16:04Speaker 5: The Taumalolos that have taken the international stage by storm
- 16:08Speaker 5: and a couple of our warriors, Dimitri Baimonga and Legahala
- 16:12Speaker 5: Seema as well. So, yeah, excited to see them go around.
- 16:14Speaker 6: Yeah, that's going to make that matchup between Tonga and
- 16:17Speaker 6: the Kiwis absolutely massive. Mate, the first game is Kiwis
- 16:21Speaker 6: vs Australia next week at Allianz Stadium in Sydney. It's
- 16:25Speaker 6: on the Thursday, the 15th of October. We'll get you
- 16:28Speaker 6: back on then to have a chat and preview that game.
- 16:31Speaker 6: thanks for coming on board. And to everybody out there,
- 16:33Speaker 6: if you haven't listened to this Warriors Live podcast, go
- 16:36Speaker 6: and get it wherever you get your podcasts. Cheers, Will.
- 16:38Speaker 5: Yeah, cheers, Moggy. Catch you next week.
- 16:40Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 16:45Speaker 3: Moggy, did you watch anything on TV?
- 16:47Speaker 6: Last night I didn't, mate. My wife and daughter are away,
- 16:49Speaker 6: so I'm sort of using that time to rearrange the house,
- 16:53Speaker 6: which has been great. I'm sort of cleaning out cupboards
- 16:55Speaker 6: and all sorts of things. But what I have been watching,
- 16:57Speaker 6: as we've been mentioning every single night, What's on the
- 17:02Speaker 6: telly with Mike Minogue. Yeah! Got there at the end.
- 17:24Speaker 6: You want those two tones?
- 17:26Speaker 3: Sort of blend into one, don't you?
- 17:27Speaker 6: Yeah, they do. Like a dial tone on a phone.
- 17:30Speaker 3: I honestly thought you were going to say no. I
- 17:31Speaker 3: didn't watch anything. And so then I was just going
- 17:33Speaker 3: to go boom into the TV.
- 17:34Speaker 6: Epic plans. I'm always running my yap on here, man.
- 17:37Speaker 6: So anyway, I've been watching East of Eden, which is
- 17:40Speaker 6: absolutely brilliant. It's on Netflix. But then my wife and
- 17:43Speaker 6: I watched one episode together and then she went away
- 17:45Speaker 6: and I was like, oh, it's too good. I'm going
- 17:47Speaker 6: to have to watch it by myself. I'm sorry.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:50Speaker 6: But now I've watched four episodes and I'm like, actually,
- 17:52Speaker 6: I don't enjoy watching it by myself. I want somebody
- 17:54Speaker 6: to be able to talk to about it after each
- 17:56Speaker 6: episode and then sort of go, oh, my God, during
- 17:58Speaker 6: the episode. So I put the brakes on that.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:02Speaker 6: She's got to catch up. She's away and staying with
- 18:04Speaker 6: her grandmother. And they've been watching. I was like.
- 18:08Speaker 3: They've been watching.
- 18:08Speaker 6: They've been watching East of Eden together. The grandma watched
- 18:12Speaker 6: the first two episodes by herself. And it's all go.
- 18:15Speaker 6: It's all go.
- 18:16Speaker 3: That is all go.
- 18:17Speaker 6: Particularly episode four. She's all go. Yes. I've warned them.
- 18:21Speaker 6: I've warned them. It's all go.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Well, Dilly messaged me last night. He said, you didn't
- 18:26Speaker 3: tell me about this very frequent part of it. That
- 18:30Speaker 3: it's all go.
- 18:30Speaker 6: That it's all go.
- 18:31Speaker 3: We're up to the same episode now. And I agree
- 18:34Speaker 3: with you in the sense that I love watching it
- 18:35Speaker 3: with my partner because I turn and I look at
- 18:37Speaker 3: her and I'm gobsmacked. And then she does the same thing.
- 18:40Speaker 3: We speculate who's manipulating who or where it's going to go.
- 18:45Speaker 3: It is that good.
- 18:46Speaker 6: Yeah, it really is. It really is. But have you
- 18:48Speaker 6: been watching anything else?
- 18:49Speaker 3: I have. I also finished another two seasons of a
- 18:53Speaker 3: show over the weekend that I was recommended by a
- 18:55Speaker 3: friend called Adults. Adults.
- 18:58Speaker 6: That's fairly old, isn't it?
- 18:59Speaker 3: It's an FX show. The second season just came out.
- 19:02Speaker 3: And it's on Disney Plus. And I'll read the description,
- 19:05Speaker 3: Horty J Styles. A 20-something ensemble comedy centering on codependent
- 19:10Speaker 3: housemates navigating adulthood together despite their flaws.
- 19:14Speaker 6: Okay. Where's it from?
- 19:17Speaker 3: It's a US show.
- 19:18Speaker 6: Oh, sorry, I missed that bit.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Set in New York.
- 19:22Speaker 6: Yeah, good.
- 19:22Speaker 3: I think they live in Queens or something. And it's
- 19:25Speaker 3: basically one guy's parents are off on like a massive trip,
- 19:30Speaker 3: like an ongoing Europe holiday extended thing. And so he's
- 19:33Speaker 3: got all of his mates staying at his place for
- 19:36Speaker 3: free as housemates. And it's very rare that you will
- 19:39Speaker 3: find a show, I think, that captures how mid-20s people live.
- 19:45Speaker 3: talk and the nature of their relationships and how close
- 19:48Speaker 3: they are. Like I'm 30. and the way that I
- 19:53Speaker 3: meet people in their 20s and how they talk and
- 19:55Speaker 3: how they are with each other, this feels very reflective
- 19:58Speaker 3: of that. That said, I don't think it will necessarily
- 20:03Speaker 3: last forever in terms of making a lasting impact on
- 20:06Speaker 3: the world of television largely because it's quite a specific.
- 20:10Speaker 6: They're going to get older, pugs. They're going to get older.
- 20:13Speaker 3: That's right. And also the way that people interact will
- 20:15Speaker 3: probably change over time too. But the performances are great.
- 20:18Speaker 3: It is hilarious. And it's actually gotten better over the
- 20:21Speaker 3: two seasons, I think. It's really good. And all unrecognisable
- 20:24Speaker 3: faces except for one guy that I've seen on TikTok,
- 20:27Speaker 3: I think, or something like that. Really, really good. That is,
- 20:30Speaker 3: I would give it a solid 3.25 buzzies out of
- 20:35Speaker 3: a possible five. Nice. and that is Adults on Disney +. Now,
- 20:42Speaker 3: on the way after 5 o'clock here on the big show,
- 20:45Speaker 3: we're going to be catching up with our old mate,
- 20:46Speaker 3: Wilson Dixon. He's a friend of the show.
- 20:48Speaker 6: He is.
- 20:49Speaker 3: And he's going to play a little tune for us
- 20:51Speaker 3: as well. Plus, Mogi, we've brought forward our new segment,
- 20:54Speaker 3: Songs from Bands That We Like.
- 20:56Speaker 6: Songs from Bands That We Like, because it's due to
- 20:57Speaker 6: popular demand. People are absolutely loving it, and that's where
- 21:00Speaker 6: we play Pugs and I alternate. We pick a song
- 21:02Speaker 6: from either a band, that we think should get more
- 21:05Speaker 6: airtime on Radio Hauraki or a deeper cut from that
- 21:08Speaker 6: band that doesn't get played at all or enough.
- 21:11Speaker 3: That's right, and we want to hear your feedback when
- 21:12Speaker 3: we get around to it. So stick around, that's all
- 21:14Speaker 3: happening after five on the Hauraki Big Show.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Welcome back, you massive backbones.
- 21:21Speaker 2: It is the Hauraki Big Show with Mike Minogue and
- 21:24Speaker 2: James Pugsley.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Chris Key and Jason Hoyt both away on holiday at
- 21:34Speaker 3: the moment. But as always, it is brought to you
- 21:36Speaker 3: by our good mates at Reburger with beef, chicken, vegan
- 21:39Speaker 3: and vegetarian options. They're redefining the norm. We're going to
- 21:44Speaker 3: need a bigger burger. I've got a problem where every
- 21:51Speaker 3: Sunday I look. at my partner and ask if we
- 21:54Speaker 3: can get Reburger, and that's not a sponsor yarn.
- 21:57Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 21:58Speaker 3: We were lucky enough to be given a voucher for
- 22:01Speaker 3: some Reburger from those guys because of the work that
- 22:04Speaker 3: we do on the show for them. And I've run out.
- 22:08Speaker 3: I've got one left.
- 22:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I'll be honest with you. As great as Reburger are,
- 22:13Speaker 6: they're stingy with those vouchers.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Dilly, could you clip this off and send this to Reburger, please?
- 22:19Speaker 6: I mean it. I'm sure they want to get better
- 22:21Speaker 6: as a business, and one thing would be to give
- 22:23Speaker 6: unlimited vouchers to the hosts of this show.
- 22:26Speaker 3: To the backbones. Yeah, that's my feeling. That make the
- 22:28Speaker 3: stupid jaws sting. But it is a problem now where
- 22:31Speaker 3: I've conditioned myself where on a Sunday I want, like
- 22:34Speaker 3: if we have any errands out on a Sunday that
- 22:36Speaker 3: I have to do when I'm hungover responsibly, my immediate
- 22:40Speaker 3: thought is how can I track the vehicle movements to
- 22:43Speaker 3: go past my local Reburg on the way home.
- 22:47Speaker 6: Yeah, it's good eating. I don't know what else you
- 22:49Speaker 6: can say.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Regent Red there. My partner gets the Halloumi one. I
- 22:52Speaker 3: think it's called the Rehab.
- 22:53Speaker 6: Sure.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Can't recommend it enough. Anyway, on the way this hour
- 22:57Speaker 3: on the Hauraki Big Show, up next, songs from bands
- 23:00Speaker 3: that we like. This is a new segment on the
- 23:02Speaker 3: Big Show, just introduced for a while. It's Mogi and I.
- 23:05Speaker 3: And you're up this week, Mogi, with a tune from
- 23:07Speaker 3: a band that you like. Don't spoil it.
- 23:09Speaker 6: I'm not going to spoil it. Don't worry about that.
- 23:11Speaker 6: I think it's a song that probably everybody will know,
- 23:14Speaker 6: but it hasn't been, it doesn't seem to get played anymore.
- 23:16Speaker 6: You don't hear it anymore. In fact, I noticed it's,
- 23:19Speaker 6: I think the album's maybe over 20 years old now.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Well, I, when you put it in the chat, I
- 23:24Speaker 3: had never heard of it.
- 23:25Speaker 6: Never heard of it. We'll find out.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Hang around for that. We'll get your feedback on it
- 23:28Speaker 3: as well, 3483. And later on in the hour, some
- 23:31Speaker 3: Wilson Dixon stuff. In the meantime, here's some Arctic monkeys.
- 23:37Speaker 3: I bet you look good on the dance floor. On
- 23:39Speaker 3: Radio Hauraki, it's The Big Show.
- 23:40Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Tune in weekdays at 4.
- 23:45Speaker 3: On Radio Hauraki. The Smazzapazzas on The Hauraki Big Show
- 23:49Speaker 3: with Mogi and Pugs. But right now, it's time for.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Some of the bands that I like.
- 23:58Speaker 6: Songs from bands that I like. That's right. This is
- 24:00Speaker 6: where we do a segment where each of us, we're
- 24:03Speaker 6: doing alternate days at the moment. That might change. We
- 24:05Speaker 6: might do it on the same day and then have voting.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:08Speaker 6: Voting, a bit of jeopardy. But each of us chooses
- 24:11Speaker 6: a song that we like and that doesn't get airplay
- 24:13Speaker 6: on Hauraki, but would also be a pretty good fit.
- 24:17Speaker 3: I agree. And the good thing is that we share
- 24:20Speaker 3: some taste, but there's a lot of difference. So, for example,
- 24:23Speaker 3: on Monday you chose Diesel Power by The Prodigy, which
- 24:26Speaker 3: was an absolute tune. Yesterday I did Fontaine's DC's Jackie
- 24:30Speaker 3: Down the Line.
- 24:31Speaker 6: Also a tune, and actually I was noticed because I've
- 24:34Speaker 6: got a playlist on, well, a few playlists on Spotify,
- 24:37Speaker 6: but one of them is just, I think it's Like Songs,
- 24:40Speaker 6: or it might be on, yeah, I think it's on
- 24:41Speaker 6: Like Songs, and I've got a couple of Fontaines in there.
- 24:43Speaker 6: I was just, I've got to listen to more of this.
- 24:45Speaker 6: I've got to do albums. I've got to do albums.
- 24:47Speaker 5: Great.
- 24:47Speaker 3: I can't wait to hear what you think. And speaking
- 24:49Speaker 3: of knowing what you think, we want to hear what
- 24:50Speaker 3: you think of this tune that Mike is going to
- 24:52Speaker 3: pick next. We are going to play it out in full,
- 24:54Speaker 3: and then we'll have another tune, and we'll come back
- 24:56Speaker 3: and read out your thoughts on 3483. As always, any
- 24:59Speaker 3: feedback in the draw for a 50-buck Reberg about you?
- 25:02Speaker 6: Bloody beautiful. All right, well, this song is from a
- 25:04Speaker 6: band that I really rate. They've been around for about
- 25:07Speaker 6: 20-odd years now. I think the guy was about 17
- 25:09Speaker 6: when this album came out. Holy. He's a singer-songwriter, but
- 25:12Speaker 6: he's got a band around him. The band is Manchester Orchestra,
- 25:15Speaker 6: and this song is Shake It Out.
- 25:19Speaker 3: I've never heard this before. Never heard of these guys before.
- 25:22Speaker 4: Great.
- 25:22Speaker 6: Crank it up, man.
- 25:23Speaker 3: It's the songs from bands that I like. Text your
- 25:28Speaker 3: feedback through 3483. That is Manchester Orchestra on the Hauraki
- 25:38Speaker 3: Big Show with Mike and Pugs. And just before we
- 25:42Speaker 3: get into the feedback on that tune that you've picked, Mogi,
- 25:44Speaker 3: it's important that I let the people know. that that
- 25:46Speaker 3: roar of the encore for Gigalittle could go off at
- 25:48Speaker 3: any time. That's your chance to win $ 250 to put
- 25:52Speaker 3: towards a gig, a festy, whatever you like. Just listen
- 25:55Speaker 3: out for that roar of the encore and give us
- 25:57Speaker 3: a buzz on 0800 Hauraki when you hear it, and
- 25:59Speaker 3: the cash could be yours thanks to our mates at
- 26:02Speaker 3: Super Licker. Now, Mogi, that was your tune.
- 26:04Speaker 6: Yes.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Give us the title again.
- 26:07Speaker 6: That song is called Shake It Out from memory, and
- 26:11Speaker 6: it's off. I think the album's called Cope. I'm pretty
- 26:15Speaker 6: sure it was their first album. Every single song on
- 26:17Speaker 6: that album is an absolute banger, and they had a
- 26:20Speaker 6: great run. This guy just tunes out so much music.
- 26:23Speaker 6: He's doing a lot of solo stuff at the moment
- 26:25Speaker 6: as well. Yeah, you bang it on, and you rip
- 26:29Speaker 6: straight into it. It's rock. He's a great singer. It's
- 26:33Speaker 6: a different kind of a voice, and it's a little
- 26:35Speaker 6: bit almost emo-ish as well. He's got a real soulful
- 26:39Speaker 6: voice he's got on him. He's like he's about to cry.
- 26:43Speaker 6: which I'm right into.
- 26:45Speaker 3: That is a good tune. I can imagine that it
- 26:46Speaker 3: would be a good one for going out for a
- 26:48Speaker 3: little trot or maybe off to the gym or something
- 26:50Speaker 3: like that, just something to make you thrash.
- 26:52Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Whatever it is that you're doing. So that was Mogi's
- 26:56Speaker 3: song that he likes, song from bands that he likes,
- 26:59Speaker 3: and we wanted your feedback on 3483 as well. Good tune, Mogi.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Not heard of these roosters, but I'm certainly going to
- 27:05Speaker 3: look them up. Keep up the great tunes, fellas. That's
- 27:07Speaker 3: from Dave. Shout out. Another one here, love this new segment.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Someone here said, absolute tune, what a treat for a Wednesday.
- 27:16Speaker 3: And then someone else said, absolutely bloody punishing.
- 27:18Speaker 6: That's right. Trying to be a good song, but it's not. Well, that's,
- 27:23Speaker 6: you know, I mean, all you can do is try, man.
- 27:26Speaker 6: And some of them, I recommend if you think he's trying,
- 27:29Speaker 6: then I would go and listen to the album and
- 27:31Speaker 6: see what you think. And a lot of times it
- 27:32Speaker 6: needs more than one listen. but I like doing this
- 27:37Speaker 6: it gives you know somebody's texted in here saying great
- 27:39Speaker 6: band great tune great segment keep up the good work
- 27:43Speaker 6: it's good to bring a little bit of stuff That
- 27:47Speaker 6: you don't always get to hear on the radio.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Well, that's right.
- 27:49Speaker 6: It's kind of why the goat's so good, right? It's
- 27:51Speaker 6: because we get to hear stuff that we don't hear
- 27:53Speaker 6: every day.
- 27:53Speaker 3: And also I think in terms of live music, you
- 27:56Speaker 3: and I probably enjoy that the most on the big show.
- 27:59Speaker 3: I mean, Jase plays absolute shockers for throbbers. He hasn't
- 28:02Speaker 3: cared about that in months. And Keezy likes Engelbert Humperdinck.
- 28:06Speaker 3: So it's nice to sort of... So it's nice to
- 28:08Speaker 3: switch it up. We'll do it again tomorrow. It'll be
- 28:10Speaker 3: my turn. And maybe at the end of the week,
- 28:12Speaker 3: I'll do a little social post or something, just kind
- 28:14Speaker 3: of wrapping up the tunes that we did in case
- 28:16Speaker 3: anybody missed it or something like that. But in the meantime,
- 28:18Speaker 3: we'll bring it back. Songs from bands that I like.
- 28:21Speaker 3: This is the Hauraki Big Show. And here's Papa Roach.
- 28:24Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.
- 28:30Speaker 3: Mogi, I had my first audition for a commercial last week.
- 28:35Speaker 6: Wow.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Now, you guys have talked a lot about it on
- 28:38Speaker 3: the show. Obviously, Keezy's an up-and-coming actor. He's trying to
- 28:40Speaker 3: get into the biz. Jase is his agent, I think, still.
- 28:44Speaker 6: I don't know if he's an up-and-coming actor.
- 28:46Speaker 4: Oh.
- 28:47Speaker 6: I think he might be a coming actor. Oh.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Because he's not up yet.
- 28:52Speaker 4: Right.
- 28:52Speaker 6: He's trying to get up.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:54Speaker 6: But he's not quite up. Okay. Okay.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Yeah, fair. So I had my first one. I was
- 28:59Speaker 3: inspired by it.
- 28:59Speaker 6: You've been coming for a long time.
- 29:01Speaker 4: Oh.
- 29:02Speaker 6: But he's still not up.
- 29:03Speaker 3: But he's still not up.
- 29:04Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 29:05Speaker 3: And you guys are obviously fantastic, esteemed actors. And so
- 29:08Speaker 3: you've really inspired me to just give it a crack.
- 29:11Speaker 3: Like there was no harm in me signing up to
- 29:13Speaker 3: a thing to try and put myself out there and
- 29:15Speaker 3: see if I'm any good.
- 29:16Speaker 6: 100%. You only need to do one and it's worth it.
- 29:18Speaker 3: That's right. So I had my first official audition. I've
- 29:21Speaker 3: been signed up for a few weeks. And they said, hey, look,
- 29:24Speaker 3: there's one this Friday. Come and have a go. It's
- 29:27Speaker 3: for a food-related thing. I can't give too many details, obviously,
- 29:30Speaker 3: because it's still in the process. But the role that
- 29:33Speaker 3: they were looking for was an athlete. and in the
- 29:40Speaker 3: description they said like.
- 29:43Speaker 6: Is it one of the from the slaps champion that
- 29:45Speaker 6: slapping championship.
- 29:48Speaker 3: Nah from darts no a real athlete from a sport
- 29:54Speaker 3: that requires some like more physical athleticism all around WWE
- 29:59Speaker 3: yeah that's it And so they were looking for two
- 30:02Speaker 3: of those, and in the description they said, and this
- 30:04Speaker 3: was sent to me because they thought that I was
- 30:07Speaker 3: somebody that should audition for it. They said, doesn't have
- 30:10Speaker 3: to be massive.
- 30:11Speaker 4: Right.
- 30:12Speaker 3: But it'd be good if one of them was, and
- 30:14Speaker 3: they both should be of a sturdy build.
- 30:18Speaker 6: You are sturdy. That's great. Sturdy. That's actually exactly what
- 30:23Speaker 6: you are. You're sturdy, or what else are you?
- 30:25Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 30:26Speaker 6: No, no. No, no. You don't like to squat, you squat. Stout? Stout.
- 30:34Speaker 6: Thank you. Yeah, you're welcome.
- 30:38Speaker 3: And so I know that I'm going in there and
- 30:39Speaker 3: I'm thinking, okay, this is.
- 30:41Speaker 6: I bet nobody's ever pushed you over. Yeah.
- 30:45Speaker 3: You're exactly right. So I go to the audition thing
- 30:48Speaker 3: and I'm... I don't shit myself until I get like
- 30:51Speaker 3: right there. So I'm excited for it and then I
- 30:53Speaker 3: get there and then I start getting nervous. I get
- 30:54Speaker 3: the shakes, all of that stuff. It's terrifying.
- 30:56Speaker 6: Talk me through being in there because there's a little
- 30:58Speaker 6: waiting room that you have to go into first. usually
- 31:02Speaker 6: there will often be other actors in there that are waiting.
- 31:04Speaker 6: There's a form that you have to fill out.
- 31:05Speaker 3: Yes.
- 31:06Speaker 6: And then you just have to sit there waiting. And
- 31:08Speaker 6: while you're waiting, you're thinking, God, I hope this place
- 31:10Speaker 6: burns down so I can just go home.
- 31:12Speaker 3: That's exactly weirdly similar to what I thought. So I'm
- 31:16Speaker 3: going in and I thought, oh, geez, maybe I wonder
- 31:19Speaker 3: if I actually packed it in, how would I say
- 31:21Speaker 3: it to my agent? How would I say it to
- 31:24Speaker 3: my agency that I couldn't do it? I was trying
- 31:27Speaker 3: to think of a way to do it. So I
- 31:28Speaker 3: go in there, the room is empty. It's just me.
- 31:30Speaker 3: There's nobody around.
- 31:31Speaker 2: 100%.
- 31:31Speaker 6: And let me just say that what you're queuing up
- 31:34Speaker 6: for and what you're in a waiting room, normally if
- 31:36Speaker 6: you're in a waiting room, it's either to see a
- 31:37Speaker 6: doctor or, you know, there's various different things, but you're
- 31:40Speaker 6: lining up for, Probable humiliation.
- 31:44Speaker 3: And something that I have to do rather than me
- 31:45Speaker 3: going to see somebody else for something that they're going
- 31:48Speaker 3: to do.
- 31:48Speaker 6: That's right. There's a performance element, which means you're probably
- 31:52Speaker 6: going to, especially when it's for a commercial.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Yes.
- 31:54Speaker 6: Even if you do it well, it's still a humiliation.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Yes, that's exactly right. So I'm sitting there, there's nobody there.
- 32:00Speaker 3: I filled out the form and I'm thinking, well, they
- 32:02Speaker 3: called up a sturdy guy that's kind of complimentary.
- 32:05Speaker 6: Stout.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Not the word they use, the word you use there.
- 32:09Speaker 3: And I'm thinking, okay, well, they obviously think there's something
- 32:11Speaker 3: athletic about me for me to get this audition. In walks,
- 32:16Speaker 3: the biggest, muscliest man you have ever seen in your life.
- 32:21Speaker 3: His arm was twice the size of my head. And
- 32:25Speaker 3: he was going for the same role.
- 32:29Speaker 6: Was he going for the same role?
- 32:31Speaker 3: He was going for the same role.
- 32:32Speaker 6: Really?
- 32:32Speaker 3: Yeah, so they wanted two of that particular kind of.
- 32:35Speaker 6: Right, so in the final script they won't have two
- 32:38Speaker 6: of these people in there.
- 32:39Speaker 3: They will, but we were both going for the same thing.
- 32:43Speaker 6: So there's person one and person two. That's right.
- 32:46Speaker 3: And then the lady comes in and goes, oh, we're
- 32:47Speaker 3: going to do it in pairs. So I'm now going
- 32:50Speaker 3: into the audition next to the largest man on planet Earth.
- 32:55Speaker 3: And he actually, I struck up a conversation with him
- 32:58Speaker 3: in the waiting room.
- 32:59Speaker 6: And he was a really lovely guy. Terrible team.
- 33:01Speaker 3: No, he was actually the nicest dude ever. He was
- 33:04Speaker 3: so sweet. We got to chat and he was like, Oh,
- 33:05Speaker 3: have you done this before? I was like, I'll be honest, man,
- 33:07Speaker 3: first one. He's like, oh, I've done a bit of
- 33:09Speaker 3: stuff in the background or whatever. We go in, we
- 33:11Speaker 3: do the audition, and it was absolutely humiliating. But you'll
- 33:15Speaker 3: remember I asked you guys what my talents were, and
- 33:18Speaker 3: I have to wrap this up. But you'll remember I
- 33:20Speaker 3: came in here and I asked you guys what my
- 33:22Speaker 3: talents were because I didn't know what to tell them.
- 33:24Speaker 6: Right.
- 33:24Speaker 3: And so they said, down the barrel, I had to
- 33:26Speaker 3: say what my hidden talents or interests were. And I said, look,
- 33:30Speaker 3: I don't know, but I asked my two 50-year-old co-workers
- 33:33Speaker 3: what they thought. Well, 39 and nearly 50, what they thought.
- 33:37Speaker 3: And they said, drinking beers and my leather tassel loafers.
- 33:43Speaker 3: They did not get the joke. But here's the best part,
- 33:48Speaker 3: is I.
- 33:48Speaker 6: Got a call back.
- 33:50Speaker 3: It's happening tomorrow.
- 33:53Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 33:57Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 33:59Speaker 3: Welcome back, you massive backbones. You are listening to The
- 34:01Speaker 3: Big Show with Mogi and Pugs. And as always, it's
- 34:04Speaker 3: brought to you by the fellas making crave-worthy street food,
- 34:07Speaker 3: freshly made at Reburger. Do you want to hear about
- 34:17Speaker 3: my egg salad recipe?
- 34:18Speaker 6: Ah, yes.
- 34:19Speaker 3: Because you were chasing those ingredients.
- 34:20Speaker 6: I do.
- 34:21Speaker 3: It was delicious.
- 34:22Speaker 6: Took me through it.
- 34:22Speaker 3: It was like.
- 34:24Speaker 6: Is this a whole meal as an egg salad? That's
- 34:28Speaker 6: everything in your bowl?
- 34:29Speaker 3: Yes. But we put it on toasted Turkish bread.
- 34:34Speaker 6: Okay.
- 34:35Speaker 3: So it was like.
- 34:36Speaker 6: Eggs on toast. You had eggs on toast for dinner.
- 34:40Speaker 3: But what if it was cool and sophisticated?
- 34:42Speaker 6: Okay, run me through it. I am keen to know.
- 34:45Speaker 3: There was sun-dried tomatoes in there, a bit of cottage cheese,
- 34:51Speaker 3: some yogurt. We had rocket on the top.
- 34:52Speaker 6: Sorry, some what? I've not heard of that. Is that French? Yeah, yeah.
- 34:59Speaker 3: It's a French word for yogurt.
- 35:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 35:02Speaker 3: I can't even remember what else now. You've thrown me off.
- 35:04Speaker 6: Salt chives. Is there any chives or parsley?
- 35:06Speaker 3: I think we had parsley in there. Yeah. And then
- 35:09Speaker 3: we had some chilli flakes in there just to give
- 35:11Speaker 3: it a bit of paprika in there. And then we
- 35:16Speaker 3: had a rocket on top.
- 35:17Speaker 6: You previously mentioned celery is made in the parents.
- 35:20Speaker 3: We thought about celery, but last minute my partner found
- 35:23Speaker 3: a different recipe.
- 35:24Speaker 6: Okay.
- 35:25Speaker 3: So the crunch came from the bread.
- 35:26Speaker 6: Okay.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Largely, and it was this beautifully toasted Turkish bread. It
- 35:30Speaker 3: was delicious. We're having leftovers tonight.
- 35:31Speaker 6: Okay. Jeez, how many eggs?
- 35:34Speaker 3: Good, like, six, probably.
- 35:36Speaker 6: And you have your leftovers tonight? That's pretty good.
- 35:38Speaker 3: Yeah, it's pretty good. With the bread, help bulk it out,
- 35:40Speaker 3: and then the.
- 35:40Speaker 6: Rocket on top there. Nice.
- 35:43Speaker 3: And it was bloody good. What are you having tonight,
- 35:45Speaker 3: Bachelor Night? Are you unfreezing one of your curries?
- 35:47Speaker 6: No, no, I don't need to unfreeze them. They're just
- 35:49Speaker 6: sitting in these containers before you. I've got one of these.
- 35:52Speaker 6: I've got five of these little resealable jars.
- 35:55Speaker 3: A large Winnie the Pooh-style jar.
- 35:56Speaker 6: That's right. I've got four left. but I don't know. Actually,
- 36:02Speaker 6: all I'm going to do is have a proper big
- 36:04Speaker 6: protein shake because I don't have one this morning. All
- 36:07Speaker 6: I had today was, what did I have? A piece
- 36:10Speaker 6: of toast in the morning, eggs for lunch, and then
- 36:14Speaker 6: my tofu set up here, my curry.
- 36:16Speaker 3: Is your protein shake just the powder and then you
- 36:19Speaker 3: just mix it with water or do you make your own?
- 36:20Speaker 6: People will be loving this. I go powder, they will
- 36:23Speaker 6: be loving it. I go powder, I go berries, I
- 36:26Speaker 6: go frozen spinach.
- 36:28Speaker 3: Yum.
- 36:30Speaker 6: And a bit of citrus in there to release the iron,
- 36:34Speaker 6: because otherwise the iron just passes through you, they reckon.
- 36:37Speaker 3: There you go. Okay, what do you have in your
- 36:39Speaker 3: protein shake, New Zealand?
- 36:41Speaker 6: Man, send this off to the radio awards.
- 36:44Speaker 3: Yeah, Dilly, if you can clip this up. No, that's Dilly,
- 36:47Speaker 3: that's not Pugs. Now, on the way this hour, you're
- 36:49Speaker 3: threatening people to vote, and also some big news out
- 36:54Speaker 3: of the Black Clash, one of the biggest events in
- 36:55Speaker 3: the Hauraki calendar, plus... We want to hear your name suggestions.
- 36:59Speaker 3: 3483 is the text number. We will be reading out
- 37:02Speaker 3: a few of those before the hour's out. It's the
- 37:04Speaker 3: Hauraki Big Show. Here's Oasis.
- 37:06Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 37:09Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 37:11Speaker 3: It's the White Stripes on the Hauraki Big Show with
- 37:14Speaker 3: Mogi and Pugs. And yesterday, Mogi, I checked that I
- 37:18Speaker 3: was enrolled to vote.
- 37:19Speaker 5: Oh, yes.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Under your firm threat. of putting in a complaint at
- 37:22Speaker 3: my workplace.
- 37:23Speaker 6: Yeah, well, that's right. There's a whole bunch of stuff
- 37:25Speaker 6: going around at the moment, which is neither left nor right.
- 37:29Speaker 6: God forbid we get accused of being political on the show.
- 37:31Speaker 6: So all we're doing is encouraging people to enrol to
- 37:34Speaker 6: vote and then vote.
- 37:36Speaker 3: That's exactly right.
- 37:36Speaker 6: And so that's a healthy democracy at work there, Pugson.
- 37:40Speaker 6: You want to be doing that. You want to get
- 37:42Speaker 6: into the habit of doing that. A lot of places
- 37:43Speaker 6: you can't vote at all. And so what we're doing
- 37:47Speaker 6: is encouraging particularly young people to get involved with the
- 37:50Speaker 6: voting process. There's 170,000 eligible 18 to 24-year-olds who have
- 37:55Speaker 6: not enrolled. So you've got to get out there and
- 37:58Speaker 6: have a crack. I don't care who you vote for.
- 38:00Speaker 6: I just want you to get out there and enroll
- 38:02Speaker 6: for it. And to do that, you go to honoroll.nz.
- 38:04Speaker 6: And then generally speaking, there's a lot of adults. Look,
- 38:10Speaker 6: are 18 to 24-year-olds adults? Possibly. But even older than that,
- 38:13Speaker 6: let's say 25 plus.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Let's say 30.
- 38:16Speaker 6: Like 30. Let's say 30. You weren't enrolled. So yesterday
- 38:19Speaker 6: what we decided we'd do is– It's all well and
- 38:22Speaker 6: good to encourage people to vote. And that's what a
- 38:24Speaker 6: lot of people are doing. They're encouraging them. But I
- 38:26Speaker 6: don't think that's harsh enough. I think there needs to
- 38:29Speaker 6: be some kind of a threat there. So what you
- 38:31Speaker 6: want to be doing is you want to be ostracised
- 38:34Speaker 6: in your mate. So if you're on the group chat,
- 38:35Speaker 6: you go in there, everybody enrolled to vote. Oh, I'm
- 38:38Speaker 6: not ostracised. Like immediately?
- 38:40Speaker 3: Do you give them one chance?
- 38:41Speaker 6: No, you're straight in there and you're bagging them, you're
- 38:45Speaker 6: dragging them, all that sort of stuff. And then, you know,
- 38:48Speaker 6: as soon as they have enrolled, and they don't have
- 38:50Speaker 6: to prove it, then they're back in the group and
- 38:54Speaker 6: all is well and they'll still get dragged because that's
- 38:56Speaker 6: what a group chat is. 100%.
- 38:57Speaker 3: It's the kind of thing that nobody lets anything go.
- 39:00Speaker 6: No, 100%. Yeah, yeah.
- 39:02Speaker 5: 100%.
- 39:03Speaker 6: So that's all we're saying is get involved, enrol either
- 39:07Speaker 6: on enrol.nz or Or vote.nz. And literally it takes, you
- 39:11Speaker 6: did it yesterday, Pugs, and we recorded it for socials.
- 39:14Speaker 6: It was about a minute and a half.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Yeah, it was about a minute and a half. And
- 39:17Speaker 3: the other important thing to note is if you're somebody
- 39:20Speaker 3: that likes to leave things late like me or be
- 39:21Speaker 3: lazy about it like I was, you cannot do it
- 39:25Speaker 3: on the day of voting. You cannot enrol on the day.
- 39:28Speaker 3: This is probably the first time in I don't know
- 39:30Speaker 3: how long, maybe ever?
- 39:31Speaker 6: Yeah, ever as far as I know. So what I
- 39:33Speaker 6: used to do is I just used to– I don't
- 39:35Speaker 6: like admin. So I just used to turn up on
- 39:38Speaker 6: the day that the election was happening. I'd turn up,
- 39:41Speaker 6: I would enrol, and I would vote. But they've changed
- 39:43Speaker 6: it now so that you can't do that, which means
- 39:45Speaker 6: there's going to be less people voting, which is kind
- 39:47Speaker 6: of the game here. So enrol now, get it sorted,
- 39:51Speaker 6: and then you'll be away laughing.
- 39:54Speaker 3: Honoroll.nz or vote.nz.
- 39:56Speaker 6: Backbone.
- 40:02Speaker 3: The Black Keys on the Hauraki Big Show with Mogi
- 40:06Speaker 3: and Pugs, and I cannot believe we've rolled around again
- 40:09Speaker 3: to another Black Clash.
- 40:11Speaker 6: Yeah, mate, it's come around quick, hasn't it? This one
- 40:13Speaker 6: happening down at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Friday the
- 40:16Speaker 6: 22nd of January. Every single year. I think this is
- 40:20Speaker 6: our fifth or sixth year of going down. Yeah. Gee whiz.
- 40:23Speaker 3: It is arguably the biggest way to start a year
- 40:26Speaker 3: for any workplace, I think.
- 40:28Speaker 6: It's an absolute gem. Somehow it's always managed to have
- 40:31Speaker 6: fantastic weather. It's always a sunny, beautiful day. Both grounds,
- 40:36Speaker 6: it sort of alternates between Bay Oval and Tauranga and
- 40:39Speaker 6: also Hagley Park and Christchurch. So those are the two grounds.
- 40:43Speaker 6: Beautiful cricket grounds. Sells out. It's great for families. Great
- 40:47Speaker 6: for the mates if you want to get along and
- 40:48Speaker 6: get a few beers in together. There's an ACC zone,
- 40:50Speaker 6: which gets pretty hectic. And today they announced one of
- 40:55Speaker 6: the wild cards. And there's been some gems over the years.
- 40:58Speaker 6: We've had Brian Lara. who turned up steamed with an
- 41:05Speaker 6: eight-year-old's helmet on backwards. He got bowled. They left him
- 41:09Speaker 6: out there because God knows what it costed them to
- 41:12Speaker 6: travel him all the way over here. Yeah. Then there's been, oh,
- 41:16Speaker 6: Jesse Ryder's another one. It's great to see him back
- 41:18Speaker 6: again this year.
- 41:19Speaker 3: What was his name?
- 41:21Speaker 6: Mr.
- 41:22Speaker 3: Cricket?
- 41:22Speaker 2: Mr.
- 41:22Speaker 6: Cricket. Mike Hussey. Yes. Great, great human being as well.
- 41:27Speaker 6: And why am I blanking on the humongous? Chris Gayle.
- 41:31Speaker 3: That's who I'm thinking of.
- 41:32Speaker 6: The absolute weapon from West Indies who didn't want to
- 41:34Speaker 6: leave from all accounts. He worked his way around New
- 41:37Speaker 6: Zealand setting all sorts of records, I'd imagine. And today
- 41:41Speaker 6: they've announced the latest wildcard. Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist
- 41:46Speaker 6: will make his Black Clash debut this year. Three-time Cricket
- 41:50Speaker 6: World Cup winner and has been recruited by Kieran Reid
- 41:54Speaker 6: to play on Team Rugby, which seems like an outrage.
- 41:57Speaker 3: I like that they say Team Rugby and Friends.
- 42:00Speaker 6: Team Rugby and Friends. That's new. Yeah. That's new. And Friends.
- 42:04Speaker 3: They're just sort of opening it up a little bit.
- 42:06Speaker 3: And he'll be lining up alongside Reid, Israel Dagg, and
- 42:09Speaker 3: Tom Walsh as well as they look to turn around
- 42:11Speaker 3: team crickets commanding 6-2 Black Clash Series lead.
- 42:15Speaker 6: Unbelievably, you can gamble on this game. Wait, really? Yeah.
- 42:19Speaker 6: True story. Fantastic. I wouldn't go near it with a dollar.
- 42:23Speaker 3: It's a great way to set a fine interest precedent
- 42:26Speaker 3: for your 2027. You can still get tickets for the
- 42:29Speaker 3: Black Clash at blackclash.co.nz, so get around that.
- 42:32Speaker 6: Yeah, can't recommend it highly enough.
- 42:34Speaker 3: Fantastic way to start the year. Here's the offspring on
- 42:37Speaker 3: the Hauraki Big Show.
- 42:39Speaker 1: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy.
- 42:42Speaker 2: Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 42:44Speaker 3: It's good shirts on the Hauraki Big Show with Pugs
- 42:48Speaker 3: and Mogi on the hunt for a name for this duo.
- 42:51Speaker 3: We want to narrow this down because at the end
- 42:53Speaker 3: of the week we want to have finalists and pick
- 42:55Speaker 3: a winner that we can then, well, I can go
- 42:57Speaker 3: away and make a bunch of stings for that we
- 42:59Speaker 3: can use for our last week together, Mogi.
- 43:00Speaker 6: That's right. That's right. Very excited. There's been a whole bunch.
- 43:03Speaker 6: There's been a deluge, but we need to start narrowing
- 43:07Speaker 6: it down. Timers are running out.
- 43:09Speaker 3: And the doors are still open for your suggestions. 3483
- 43:13Speaker 3: is the text number, or you can go to the
- 43:14Speaker 3: Hauraki Big Show on Instagram and submit that way as well.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Everyone's in the draw for a $ 50 Reburger voucher. Any
- 43:21Speaker 3: taking your eye there?
- 43:22Speaker 6: Look, there's a couple there. Mogio on all fours looking
- 43:24Speaker 6: over his shoulder with me, sperm boy. But I can't
- 43:28Speaker 6: separate that from Mogi on all fours looking at pugs
- 43:32Speaker 6: with a glint in his eye with me, Keezy.
- 43:34Speaker 3: See, I love that, but I do think the on
- 43:36Speaker 3: all fours thing, I wouldn't want to take that away
- 43:38Speaker 3: from Keezy. I think he's really proud of that. Somebody
- 43:43Speaker 3: here said tofu tits with me, Mogi.
- 43:46Speaker 6: I like that.
- 43:47Speaker 3: Now, there's a lot of tofu chat.
- 43:51Speaker 6: There is.
- 43:52Speaker 3: And so I assume they're talking about me when they
- 43:54Speaker 3: say tofu buzzies.
- 43:55Speaker 6: Yeah, that's right.
- 43:57Speaker 3: Which is really good. What else is there?
- 44:00Speaker 6: Well, when you're going to extract everything that's looking over
- 44:03Speaker 6: your shoulder, like Mogi on all fours looking over his
- 44:06Speaker 6: shoulder at Pugs on his backbone.
- 44:10Speaker 3: Another Mogi on all fours one. There's two here from
- 44:13Speaker 3: the same person who said Mogi and the Punisher.
- 44:16Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 44:16Speaker 3: And then they also went on to say Mogi and
- 44:18Speaker 3: the Wounder.
- 44:20Speaker 5: Right.
- 44:21Speaker 6: So you're a punisher and a wounder.
- 44:23Speaker 3: Both a punisher and a wounder there.
- 44:25Speaker 6: What about Mogi and the punishing wounder?
- 44:27Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 44:27Speaker 3: Well, that way both of their suggestions get together at once. Thanks, man.
- 44:30Speaker 6: So that's on the shortlist.
- 44:32Speaker 3: That's good. There's a couple of references.
- 44:34Speaker 6: What about this one here, man? I think about you
- 44:37Speaker 6: at night time, Pugs.
- 44:39Speaker 3: Not a great name for a show. I will say
- 44:41Speaker 3: I thought that was just a separate message because that
- 44:44Speaker 3: person also suggested Mogi's sperm boy.
- 44:46Speaker 6: Oh, right.
- 44:48Speaker 3: So I think that was just like an afterthought. Yes.
- 44:52Speaker 6: Tofu Boy and the Honka has got a ring to it.
- 44:56Speaker 3: You're really pushing the tofu agenda, man, which.
- 45:00Speaker 6: Old Mogi and the Jizz Magnet. Yeah, I mean, look,
- 45:03Speaker 6: there's a few in there.
- 45:04Speaker 3: How about Stinkhole and Beret Boy? That's on 353. That's
- 45:07Speaker 3: from Campbell.
- 45:08Speaker 6: I like that.
- 45:09Speaker 3: Yeah, that's really good. I think Beret Boy is quite nice,
- 45:12Speaker 3: and Stinkhole, obviously, in reference to your stinkhole outside your.
- 45:15Speaker 6: House, man. Oh, yeah, outside my house.
- 45:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:18Speaker 6: It's good, isn't it? Oh, well, we'll keep working on
- 45:20Speaker 6: them and we'll get a shortlist together probably end of
- 45:22Speaker 6: day Thursday.
- 45:23Speaker 3: Is that the plan?
- 45:24Speaker 6: Yes, yes.
- 45:24Speaker 3: Keep them coming, 3483 or through the Hauraki Big Show Insta.
- 45:29Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 45:40Speaker 4: Smokey. Cheers.
- 45:51Speaker 3: Another one in the bag, man.
- 45:52Speaker 6: Another one in the bag, man. It's going great, Guns.
- 45:54Speaker 6: I'm enjoying it.
- 45:55Speaker 1: I'm loving it.
- 45:56Speaker 6: And off home now. It's tricky, though, because we've got
- 46:01Speaker 6: a relatively nice evening out here.
- 46:03Speaker 3: We do.
- 46:03Speaker 6: As I look outside and watch a couple in an argument,
- 46:06Speaker 6: absolutely fuming. She's going to storm off. I'm loving this.
- 46:09Speaker 6: Give it to me, Pugs. You can commentate. She has.
- 46:12Speaker 3: She did not look happy.
- 46:13Speaker 6: Is that actually? That's a real-life domestic. Where we are
- 46:16Speaker 6: in our office here, there's a couple of walkways.
- 46:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:20Speaker 6: And, you know, people have got access. They go out
- 46:22Speaker 6: there to vape and smoke cigarettes. There's a gentleman out there. Because,
- 46:25Speaker 6: of course, tonight, here in the NZME building, there's going
- 46:28Speaker 6: to be a big political debate.
- 46:29Speaker 3: Yes, I think that's a Herald Now situation.
- 46:31Speaker 6: And it's going to be an absolute monster. So there
- 46:33Speaker 6: was a couple outside. One was having a vape. The
- 46:36Speaker 6: gentleman there was telling her what he thought. Maybe it
- 46:41Speaker 6: was a political debate.
- 46:42Speaker 3: I didn't get a look at him. I only got
- 46:43Speaker 3: a look at her looking absolutely dismayed as she walked off.
- 46:46Speaker 6: She's had it up to her gills with him. And
- 46:50Speaker 6: she's stood up and taken off. Exit stage left and
- 46:53Speaker 6: he's buggered off stage right. He's now talking to somebody
- 46:55Speaker 6: from security. And a couple of other nosy bastards. That's
- 46:58Speaker 6: good stuff, man. Well, I'm not going to be doing
- 47:00Speaker 6: that because my wife's not home.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Oh, so you can't argue.
- 47:03Speaker 6: So that's a shame. So I'm just going to go
- 47:04Speaker 6: home and probably finish off a bit of cleaning. But
- 47:07Speaker 6: it's this kind of weather that makes you want to
- 47:09Speaker 6: pop out for a beer, doesn't it?
- 47:11Speaker 3: I 100% agree. And it's getting to that time of
- 47:12Speaker 3: year as well where the afternoons are going to be
- 47:14Speaker 3: real nice and long.
- 47:15Speaker 6: Real nice.
- 47:16Speaker 3: I'm back at my house tonight. I've departed Horty J's house.
- 47:20Speaker 3: So I'm back in my domain, which I'm very excited
- 47:22Speaker 3: about because it's sort of been a little a lot
- 47:24Speaker 3: of changes of environment recently and also I'm trying to
- 47:27Speaker 3: move on from that thing we were talking about earlier
- 47:29Speaker 3: where I left something at house sitting. And I think
- 47:33Speaker 3: I'll probably just watch a bit of TV, have my leftovers.
- 47:35Speaker 3: I think my partner's gone out to get her nails done.
- 47:38Speaker 6: This is good stuff. People will be loving this. This
- 47:41Speaker 6: is the kind of stuff that Woody J says when
- 47:43Speaker 6: he's been at his most boring and I'd Speak for
- 47:46Speaker 6: myself as well.
- 47:47Speaker 3: That is a huge compliment.
- 47:50Speaker 6: But if you want more of this, we'll see you
- 47:52Speaker 6: tomorrow from 4.
- 47:54Speaker 3: Also, the podcast comes out at 7.30 if you missed
- 47:57Speaker 3: any of the show today. And also, I've done another
- 48:00Speaker 3: This Week in 2024 today for the disclaimer podcast, the
- 48:04Speaker 3: bonus podcast we do every day. But in the meantime,
- 48:07Speaker 3: have yourself a beautiful night.
- 48:08Speaker 6: We'll see you tomorrow.
- 48:09Speaker 3: It's the Hauraki Big Show.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Bye.
