- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good Morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am

- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day. To record a podcast to.
- 0:15Teach distinctions, possibilities, new ways of
- 0:18thinking, and just bring some joy.
- 0:20Into the. World.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey everybody, good morning from
- 0:30the chicken coop. Yes, I still have the funk, but
- 0:33we're we're ignoring the sound of my voice.
- 0:36So I have a domestic question for all of you to ask yourself.
- 0:41Now this is a big challenge that I come up with with a lot of my
- 0:45clients. It's domestic chores.
- 0:47Who's doing the domestic chores in the house 'cause we all know
- 0:50we all have to do laundry and dishes and whatever it is,
- 0:54changing the beds. We all have these things we have
- 0:57to do. Some of us have more than
- 0:58others. Like me with the farm, I have a
- 1:00lot more of chores to do, but I actually like chores and I feel
- 1:05like there's a lot of gifts in doing that because I've
- 1:08conditioned myself to understand that there are huge, huge things
- 1:12that come to you from as lessons, as mindfulness.
- 1:17Lots of stuff that that centers us and grounds us comes from the
- 1:22mundane, so to speak, doing the mundane chores.
- 1:25So let's go to the main one and recently this just came up with
- 1:29a client and it's laundry. Now the situation was as
- 1:34follows. Person one is doing laundry and
- 1:38typically does the laundry all the time.
- 1:41Person one puts the laundry in as white clothes, only white
- 1:46clothes going in, takes them out at the end of the laundry
- 1:52running cycle and sees that there is something blue on a
- 1:56pair of white jeans and doesn't understand how because there was
- 2:01nothing else in there that could have done this.
- 2:04It was like right on the top near the pocket.
- 2:06It was a blue stain. So goes to person B and says
- 2:14I'm, you know, I don't know what happened.
- 2:15This is here. I'm sorry, I don't know what
- 2:17happened. There was nothing else in there,
- 2:18but your clothes are stained. Person B examines pants and
- 2:23finds that there was a key chain in there like A tag you would
- 2:28put on. You know, like a key chain
- 2:29holder that was a leather 1 blue and it was in the pocket.
- 2:34Left it in there and was immediately upset beyond reason
- 2:41about the fact that that the pockets had not been checked.
- 2:45And said to person A, it is the person's responsibility who does
- 2:50the laundry to check the laundry to make sure that there is
- 2:54nothing in the pockets. And that ensues.
- 2:58And tremendous argument about the fact that whose
- 3:02responsibility is it? Who's taking responsibility?
- 3:05So in my world, in my model of the world, if I'm doing the
- 3:09laundry, which I do in my house, I do the laundry and for the
- 3:13children, I have always checked the pockets because I understand
- 3:17kids. I talk about it I and then I
- 3:20will say, hey, you need to do this.
- 3:23This is the the issue. Now I have bins in my laundry
- 3:26room. I purposefully bought a bin that
- 3:29has four sections, a laundry like cart, one of those old
- 3:32school laundry carts which I love.
- 3:34And so everything can be sorted and they can sort it into where
- 3:37it go they want it to go and then I can put it in there.
- 3:40Now, when it comes to my husband, I don't check his
- 3:43pockets because he's an adult and he knows.
- 3:46Now, does the situation happen where he leaves stuff in his
- 3:50pockets? Yes, absolutely, 100%.
- 3:53He leaves tissue in his pockets. And let me tell you, it is a
- 3:56pain in the butt when it happens and it goes everywhere.
- 3:59It sticks to everything. It is awful when it sticks to
- 4:02Velcro. It's all over the place.
- 4:04You then have to shake it all out.
- 4:06You have to pick it all out. It drives me insane.
- 4:11However, I am not responsible for the fact that this happens.
- 4:16He is responsible for the fact that it happens because it's his
- 4:20clothing. He put it in there.
- 4:22So in Full disclosure, like when it get happens and it gets all
- 4:26over the place, I, I take those clothes out of the washer, I put
- 4:29them right in the dryer. Whatever comes off in the dryer,
- 4:31that's it. And I fold his clothes and I
- 4:33leave it stuck to him and I take care of mine.
- 4:35If my clothes have stuff on it, I go, I shake them out, I do it.
- 4:38And then he can deal with his own because I'm not doing and I
- 4:42have overtime. That may sound stupid and petty,
- 4:45but it's not because it was his responsibility to check the
- 4:48pockets. And over time I have recognized
- 4:52that. If I see him with a cold, if
- 4:54he's got allergies going on, I'll say to him, please make
- 4:56sure you check your pockets. Like I remind him about it.
- 4:59Now, ironically, what's so funny is that my son is super, super,
- 5:04well, my daughter like, you know, it's a non issue.
- 5:07She just sorts laundry, did it all herself.
- 5:09Like very, very efficient with that stuff.
- 5:12My son over time has learned he doesn't even leave his clothes
- 5:16anymore in his bathroom. He just actually picks them all
- 5:20up, comes into the laundry room, puts them into the right bin,
- 5:22shakes them out, takes his belt off, turns his socks inside out.
- 5:26Because I have said it enough times and I said, listen, I'm
- 5:29not doing this to be a pain in your butt.
- 5:31I'm doing this to train you to be a a good partner to somebody.
- 5:34This who, if you're going to be the person that does the laundry
- 5:37or your person is going to be the person that does the
- 5:39laundry, I'm training you to be a good partner to that person.
- 5:44And he gets it. He's like, no, that's, that's
- 5:46okay. I don't mind doing that.
- 5:47It's I don't have to do the laundry.
- 5:49That's good. So in your opinion, whose
- 5:52responsibility is it right in your house?
- 5:55Do you argue about this? Is it?
- 5:57Whose responsibility is it to check the pockets?
- 6:00And if you have never thought about this or any of the other
- 6:03domestic things that you do that require an understanding of
- 6:07this, this may be a good time to do it.
- 6:09Because it's always best to deal with things before they become a
- 6:13hot button because then they become an inferno.
- 6:16And for me, I just think discussing it ahead of time is
- 6:20always good. So go figure it out.
- 6:22And who's in charge of those pockets?
- 6:24All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 6:26see you tomorrow. Bye.
