- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar fans welcome in to do vault daily presented by jing Jack dot com fuel by brass tax coffee It's Monday October 19th your Jacksonville Jaguar is coming off of a Extremely disappointing loss in London to the Houston Texans right now We're gonna talk about what went wrong.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: I am out here in London.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: I do apologize for not having more content for y'all this past weekend
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: with travel and family and you know everything been going on Wi-Fi here.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's just been difficult, right?
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: to get anything done.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: But I did want to get this video out for y'all.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: Today, talking about what, in my opinion, went wrong for the Jag wars in this game against the Texans in London, where a final score of 34 to 31, it was much more of a shoot out than I think anyone would have expected, but we're going to get into it.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all being here.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: And again, I apologize for not having the usual content schedule for y'all, but sometimes these things happen.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: Please like, subscribe, hit that high button if you enjoy the content all jags all the time.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not one to usually look to officiating early on in analysis, like it's something that happens, there's bad calls, but when you have a situation like what happened yesterday, and you have a touchdown taken off the board for the Jaguars, where a facial tutan scores a touchdown and clearly Britain's strange who was called for a holding did not even get
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: It just wasn't, it was not a hold.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: And then a couple plays later, Trevor Lawrence is intercepted.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: And then you have Travis Hunter called for passenger parents in the end zone, which gives the Texans the ball at the one yard line, again, clearly not a penalty.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: That is a massive swing in this football game.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: You're talking about taking seven points off the board for the Jaguars, and you're talking
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: That is like just such a massive swing in a football game like this between two good teams.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: We expected this to be a good game.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: Even though I picked the Jaguars to win, I think it was like the closest I had the Jaguars winning in a game all year.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: They weren't able to get it done.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: Again, Final Score 3431.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of things that impacted this game.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: I thought those two massive mistake calls, bad calls on the Jaguars.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: were as big of a reason that they lost this game as anything else.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: I really did and said to me that's something that needs to be talked about at the forefront of this.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jaguars played evenly with the Texans.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: I really do and they weren't able to win the game in part because of those calls that were just massive swings in the game.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: So, it is what it is, right?
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: The rain clearly impacted the game.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: It started raining a little bit before the game.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: It impacted it for both teams.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: It seems like it impacted it for the Jaguars.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: They weren't able to handle it as well as the Texans did, but it was definitely an impact and that's something to keep in mind.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I think when you talk about this being a home game, air quotes for the Jaguars,
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't like the Eagles game, though we could go, right?
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: Where it was clearly just such an Eagles crowd.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: But it was still not an advantage for the Jaguars being there against the Texans.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: It was not a home game.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: It was kind of like a neutral crowd.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: There was a lot of Texans fans.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: There were a lot of Jaguars fans.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think there were more Texans fans quite honestly, but it was fairly even.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: But even if it's even, that is not good enough to justify these games in London.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: And I know Mark Lamping had comments about, you know, once the new stadium opens,
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: why would it make sense to have the money, right?
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: But that doesn't help you right now.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: That doesn't help you and 2026 or 2027.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: New stadium is not open until 2028.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: These London games, when you have a competitive football team, it's horrible.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's taking, and of course they were able to get it done against the Eagles, which is great.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: But the Jaguars operate at such a higher level in a more consistent level.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: In Jacksonville, then they do anywhere else.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: There's no question about that.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: And this is another example of, I think, just crazy randomness happening when the Jaguars are not at home.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: Different parts of the team fall apart when they are not at home.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: It happens a lot.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: You just see some wonky games
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: during the last couple years when the Jaguars were playing away from Jacksonville.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you think about the Arizona game last year, you think about the game where the Jaguars were in Houston last year, and just different weird things happen when they don't have their home crowd when they are not firing on all cylinders.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: So to me, yeah, these, these got to go, and it seems like they will.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, this year they're playing two home games, which takes away one home game that they have to play by NFL rule in 2031.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: And London, so that's good for the future, but it didn't help you this game this week.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguar's fault of foreign, too, because of that or in part, because of that.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Thomas Jr. drop early in the game and then benched.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: Look, BTJ, it just, it feels like this one's, feels like something's gotta give.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what else to say.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's not helping the offense it doesn't feel like and I know we talk about it and I've talked about it a lot You know the spacing he can provide you and I think that that's true But Can Travis Hunter not provide you the same spacing which of course you saw Travis Hunter provide spacing and Provide fireworks for the offense in this game Later on, but yeah, BTJ didn't have a single rep in the second half on offense
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: So it is an interesting situation.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, the Jaguars have the potential to trade for him.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see what ends up happening there.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to speculate on the trade.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know anything that y'all don't know.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: But like to me, he can't be a starter.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe they realize that.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I'm out with B2J, he just can't be on the field more than some of these other guys that are actually producing for you.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: Um, early on, the past defense was super shaky and throughout the game, honestly.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: But to me, when you're, when you're a defense that's predicated on stopping the run, making your opponent one-dimensional and, you know, forcing them into bad down-and-distance, all those things, and then you allow 4.6 yards per carry.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: You have two runners in Woody Marks, Andrew R. Jordan, who go over 40 yards.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: which that's the first time they've allowed a single runner over 40 yards this season.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: They allowed two in this game, 4.6 yards per carry for the Texans.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't like they were consistently run in the ball all over the Jaguars, but their run game in the second half and their run game in general allowed them to feel a little bit more comfortable and really
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: In this specific game, I think the past defense was worse than the run defense for the Jaguars.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: But when you're a team, again, that's predicated on stopping the run to help your past defense.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: And you can't stop the run consistently.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: That makes life very difficult.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I think that that really was more apparent in the second half of the Texans kind of run on the ball a little bit better.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's tough deal, but I think that that was honestly, I think you use it.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: The last two times the Jaguar was a play the Texans, the Texans have been able to run the ball in the second half consistently.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's something they got to figure out and that something that they got to make sure does not, they have a buy would coming up.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: That cannot continue.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: You game after your buy would cause gonna be, against one of the best running backs in football,
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: that cannot continue.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be able to stop the run if you want this defense to perform at a level that you're used to seeing them perform at.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: You absolutely do.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: Now, when it comes to the past game, you didn't have some of your guys, right?
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: You didn't have Buster Brown on this one.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: I honestly don't know that that would have made a difference, but Jari and Jones was picked on.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean he was picked on heavily, it was bad, it was really bad.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: And as he close in a lot of these situations, yes, but bottom line is when you're a corner in this league and you allow a hundred yards
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: 100 yards in primary coverage, your targeted eight times, you allow six receptions, you have two penalties, you allow a hundred yards in coverage.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: And then you also have at least one play where you can completely whiff on a tackle that ends up gaining a bunch more yards.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was a about as bad as it gets for Jarian Jones game.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: And one thing I'll say here, if you want to run more main coverage,
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: That's where Jarring should be better, but he wasn't in this game.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter, I think, can do whatever you want him to do.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he gave up a long completion of Nico Collins early in the game.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: I thought other than that, he was very good.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: Again, the passenger clearance call I thought was bogus.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: It feels like you only have one corner right now, and that's Travis Hunter, who you can really rely on throughout a ballgame.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: That's a difficult place to live in, a difficult world to live in, right?
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: especially against CJ Stroud, who's playing great ball.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: As far as the past rushes go, I feel like the past rush is fine, but it was difficult.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think for both teams to generate past rush, Liam Cohen alluded to that after the game.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe the thing that is most surprising, just like the Trevor and Parker connection, Trevor Lewis and Parker Washington connection, it wasn't great.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: You got moments in this game.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: There was a second quarter drive where they were getting it going, but it was not nearly as consistent as it normally is.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: I do think part of that was honestly the weather, which that's not an excuse, that's like the fact.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the weather impacted them.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not giving them a pass for that, but I do think that's what happened with their connection.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: Parker Washington dropped the ball multiple times.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't haul in some passes you expect him to normally haul in.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: You only come up with four catches for 64 yards, that is going to be difficult for the offense to be as consistent, scoring points as you want to be.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I know Parker will be the first to say that, right?
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, your catch in less than 40% of your targets in a game when multiple of those are drops, as a difficult look for Parker.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't expect that to continue moving forward, but that's absolutely something that went wrong for the Jaguars in this one.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: And then, just the fact that like, there's a fever dropped 14% of the ops in this one.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: They dropped 14% 14% drop rate for drops.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: That's more like one of those like early 20, 25 games, early Trevor Lawrence career games, where like he consistently led the NFL when it came to drops, no matter who,
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: was the receiving core, like 2021, it was always high drop seasons for the Jaguars.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: And again, do I think that the weather played a part in that and this one, yes, but is that okay?
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, Trevor Lawrence, right, puts up a bunch of yards, touchdowns, all that stuff.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think, great.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: You helped your team score a lot of points, but I think you also had
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like the interception he threw in the end zone, you can't have that.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: He threw a pass that should have been an interceptive before that.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: He had multiple turnover worthy plays that we just can't have it throws in my opinion.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: As soon as the ball's released, you're like, oh no, right?
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: Unmultiple of those.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: So it wasn't his best performance either.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: We'll continue talking about the Jags a little bit later.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: Today, not just focusing on all the negative from this game.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it could have been a little bit more balance,
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: The offense was still humming.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: Despite a lot of these things we just talked about, it was against a good defense.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: Weird game, as I mentioned, weird stadium, weird crowd, weird weather, weird game.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguar is still foreign too, on top of the F.C.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: South, but the Texans now have life.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll talk about all that stuff a little bit more later.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
