- 0:00Hey, what's up, man? I hope all is well, and the
- 0:03Widow and the winter. I just listened to your show the
- 0:08be forever. Cool, nice, great show, very
- 0:14interesting. Great start on the show to, you
- 0:17know, I really enjoyed listening to it.
- 0:20I mean, I know you, you know, you touched on a lot of things
- 0:23that most races here. You know, that's that's really
- 0:28good good show that you do in there so keep it up.
- 0:32I was listening to the word racer.
- 0:38Something for new people to understand to wear like I've
- 0:42been Racing for like over six years now and the word racer to
- 0:48a lot of people would think and it's probably is defined as
- 0:53getting out there writing as fast as you can.
- 0:56Impossibie right? And beat everybody and win races
- 0:59and if you don't come home it with trophies and medals, you're
- 1:04not actually racing. You know, you got that's the
- 1:07Stigmata be hanger, isn't that you gotta win something, you
- 1:10gotta leave it plastic at the end of the weekend, and I think
- 1:14that you should at some point differentiate what that kind of
- 1:20reason because For me, I think it's two kinds erasing.
- 1:25This is the one for racing for Plastics and then there's the
- 1:28one that goes out there to ride your machine that you've built
- 1:32and spend time on and put a part in.
- 1:35And did you research and you go there and you get an opportunity
- 1:39to experience how that the few dot dot dot dot dot that
- 1:44accomplishment of what you the package that you put together?
- 1:48I think it does. Another partner is in so that's
- 1:50the two types of reason, you know, the one That you go out
- 1:53there to win the plastic and the other one, this one that I just
- 1:56turned you about. So I don't really have to
- 1:58explain much about the plastic. You just gotta go out there and
- 2:02beat the portion in front of you finish on the podium and you
- 2:05know get your name on the board and that's that's one type.
- 2:11The other type. Now is the one.
- 2:13Where, as I said you do the research, we have Parts you, you
- 2:19put it together a new chain, you know, and new sprocket bike
- 2:24looks good. You know, you it's race week.
- 2:28You you know you get you go to the dollar store, grab up the
- 2:32power. A do you know things that, you
- 2:34know, you're going to enjoy during this time that you're
- 2:37away from society from your responsibilities?
- 2:41You know, as you're doing this reason thing that's that's the
- 2:43best part about Racing for me is when I when I get off exit,
- 2:49whatever that exit is 15 or whatever, I always stop at
- 2:52Walmart, always us, it's such it.
- 2:55I do it so much. Now that it's a part of my, it's
- 2:57a, it's a visiting stupid stations regime.
- 3:00I gotta stop and buy something from Walmart.
- 3:03So I usually buy like, the fluids that are going to be
- 3:06using for the weekend to hydrate some nice little snack.
- 3:10Another part of it. Is.
- 3:13Another part of it is getting to the truck finding a spot setting
- 3:18up. You know, getting your stuff
- 3:21ready? Pulling out your bike, running
- 3:23your card extension car, putting your bike on the stand, you
- 3:27know, Put The Knife earrings or for me I used to have to do that
- 3:31because I would put my bike in a minivan and you know get in that
- 3:35thing. Then people start to show up a
- 3:37truck. You saying hey how was your week
- 3:39or once a month, you know, Do, that's so that's a, such a big
- 3:44part of reason, you know, then, you know, after that, what are
- 3:49we doing for dinner, as a big part of the reason I enjoy that.
- 3:52I spent, as I spent a lot of years, just messing around
- 3:56because I was already looking for who wins.
- 3:59A championship points and try and get being the fastest
- 4:03export. I was just looking for what we
- 4:05get when we have there on the weekend, and I think that that's
- 4:09what happened to me as well, along the way that I got caught
- 4:12up with this fun part of the reason and not so much of, you
- 4:17know, hey, we need to run a neither, I gotta run 16th to be
- 4:20an expert and I got to, you know, get amateur championship
- 4:23at one time, I did that the first time I said, I wanted to
- 4:26be on to jump. Try crashed twice.
- 4:28Biggest high side ever had in my life?
- 4:31Scare the shit out to me so like and that's why I just realize I
- 4:35need to start continue reason for fun, you know, and that's
- 4:38the best part about racing right now.
- 4:40The word Racing for me especially and I can throw the
- 4:43guy, a lot of people out there that would find that part about
- 4:46the reason the word that fits them.
- 4:53And if it's a nice touch, that's I sure for you as well, like you
- 4:57and you draw. I knew you liked part of the
- 5:00race and I could imagine is when you drive and go into different
- 5:03tracks and setting up finding generators, you know, standing
- 5:08up talking with new people. Hey, I'm from the Northeast, you
- 5:11know? And they it dot dot such a
- 5:14different Feeling, he really explain it, but that's
- 5:18definitely a type of race in the actual just getting there and
- 5:22being set up and and, and then going out there and doing it
- 5:27tests and you practice and figuring out the truck, you
- 5:30know, that's a big part. That's and solid definition of
- 5:36actual reason. So I hope you know, you could
- 5:39probably touch on that in the next time or at some point and
- 5:42let let people know that racing in.
- 5:45Actually coming home with the trophies, but it's actually the
- 5:48entire thing about story that defines racing, you know, just
- 5:54going on. And then try said something very
- 5:56important there. He will say, he said finishing
- 5:59the race and not crashing, you know, as you get up into the age
- 6:04that we are in responsibilities. Barely got kids, you got wife,
- 6:07he got to go home, so you got a job mortgage, you gotta pay for
- 6:11the truck but then the credit card bills for the, for the
- 6:14races that you Sign up for the biggest part of racing is
- 6:17actually just finishing finishing the race and having
- 6:20fun. So definitely gotta explain that
- 6:24to people. That is not, it's not about
- 6:26winning coming over trophies. You're listening to the be
- 6:31forever. Cool podcast.
- 6:33My name is Rex 45 home along with TJ from two wheels and
- 6:38coffee. You know, I couldn't have
- 6:41explained it any better than that.
- 6:43That's why I literally had to just play that for for folks to
- 6:48hear TJ. And I'll also go and say this,
- 6:53you know this is our fourth episode in the series and we've
- 7:01been getting a lot of love so far.
- 7:03I want to shout out Leroy from Guyana.
- 7:07He raced in Northeast at loud. And in a Neymar series.
- 7:12And you know, after hearing our first episode, he sent me this,
- 7:17the, this note and, you know, we chatted and ask them if I can
- 7:20play it and he gave me permission to play it because I
- 7:23could have explained that as eloquent as he did with the two
- 7:28different kinds of racing. I was pretty good, that's pretty
- 7:33deep. Yeah, that was that was on the
- 7:36money right on the money because and so this It is is going to be
- 7:41talking about the two different kinds of racers and and the best
- 7:47way to kind of set up, you know, two different titles.
- 7:51You know, we got the folks who are professional the ones that
- 7:55want to make a living from racing.
- 7:57And then we have the enthusiasts, which, you know,
- 8:01and enjoy all the same thing to professional enjoys.
- 8:06But the goals are different. So the cost is different.
- 8:09The risk is different. Yeah, you know you know they're
- 8:14the enthusiasts is the love the love for it to keep you out
- 8:18there. But the cost is a major effect
- 8:22and the people are trying to do a professional.
- 8:25Usually, start young, but I don't see this as a
- 8:28cost-effective that when you have the chance to take it that
- 8:33level. Yeah, exactly.
- 8:35Exactly. Yeah, you know, it you know,
- 8:39we're we've been blessed because in the next few episodes, we're
- 8:44going to have someone on to talk about racing at a very young
- 8:46age. You know, we're coming in to
- 8:50racing motorcycles. I, you know, I I started racing
- 8:54at 40 and and you know, how do you mean start erasing 3333?
- 9:02So recovering from it, from a different angle so weird
- 9:04enthusiasts in the game, right? We're not the professional.
- 9:07We're not looking to go to motor America MotoGP moto2, let me
- 9:12world superbike World Supersport BSB the, you know, the
- 9:16Australian League, the Kirk Caribbean League, you know,
- 9:19this, you know, the Irish lit. This just so many leaks, right?
- 9:22There's so many leagues and and, and so, it's generally going to
- 9:26be the younger folks and maybe some older folks, as well.
- 9:29I'm not, I'm not, I don't want to hear say, yeah, ever, too,
- 9:31old to go Racing, moto GP, Valentino Rossi has proven that
- 9:36You can be over 40 and race. Granted, you gotta have the same
- 9:39skill set as him but you still can be over 40 and and race at a
- 9:44high level and beat, you know, two seconds off the fastest guys
- 9:47in the world. You know what I mean?
- 9:51So we're going to do this episode and just kind of talk
- 9:54about that the the racing aspects of it.
- 9:59You know, you know, what do you think about what Leroy said
- 10:04about, you know, Going to the track and that experience, and
- 10:09and and do you find yourself? You know, trying to chase times
- 10:15or Plastics or I'll just have the experience that he's talking
- 10:20about. Well, you know, it's good when
- 10:21he said my first time as new Rider into the track, you know,
- 10:26didn't know what to expect. I just want to get out there and
- 10:29you know, see, you know, test my limits, see what speed, I can
- 10:33build up, listen to all the fast, guys, watch all the fast
- 10:38guys, and then I took it from the There.
- 10:43And then, once you get the love for it, you realize there's a
- 10:45family, you develop a family. So I do have a ritual now.
- 10:49So when I get to the track, I do exactly kind of opposite with
- 10:53Leroy said. Now, I I show up and I say hello
- 10:57to everybody then I unload and did.
- 10:59I set up my standards and table and then everyone's like, what
- 11:03are you doing for dinner? And I'm like, sorry, I got to go
- 11:05to Walmart. And I got a, I got a big pile
- 11:09wall, but red, get my fruits and my snack.
- 11:12The track and, you know, my juices, right?
- 11:16He should all set up and then once I come back and I see
- 11:18what's going on, but you know so yeah.
- 11:22You know, I really liked what he said that that is really good
- 11:26what he said. So I developed a ritual just
- 11:29like that, ya know, it's interesting.
- 11:31I think we all kind of do regardless male or female who
- 11:35you are. Yeah, same thing you know I
- 11:38didn't I only drink Red Bull at the track and I only drink Red
- 11:41Bullet in the morning. you know, I generally go set up first and
- 11:45then hit the Walmart run and and grab all the things I need, you
- 11:50know, before when I first started, I used to, you know,
- 11:55get there in the morning and try to make registration and all
- 11:58that stuff and and just being chaos and by the time you put on
- 12:02your suit and it's time to go off our practice, you're a mess
- 12:04because you just expanded so much energy.
- 12:07So now I like to show up the day before go through Tech day
- 12:11before. You know, get my tire warmers on
- 12:13everything set up. So that when I wake up in the
- 12:15morning all I got is my rituals which is you know, go get my
- 12:18cappuccino pull these days. Make my cappuccino Red Bull have
- 12:24a half. Sandwich, have some, you know,
- 12:27you know, make a smoothie and then, you know, go on a track
- 12:30and and and and and and you know, figure out what my day is
- 12:34going to be like, right? Yeah, you know you gotta have
- 12:36your own ritual and I realized, you know, there's there's a
- 12:40certain etiquette for for racing anyway.
- 12:43You have to be organized. Yeah you want to make your own
- 12:46way in your own way. You want to make sure you set
- 12:48up, you have everything you don't want to do it setting up
- 12:51at the last minute and you know, forget a piece Or apart we are.
- 12:56Yeah. And at that and that's it does
- 12:58happen. We have seen people try to go on
- 12:59a track and they don't have the boots on.
- 13:01We've seen people try to go to track it.
- 13:03I have two helmets on, I'm not strapped the gloves, you know
- 13:07what I mean. And and and so there is, you
- 13:09know, you don't have to be superstitious, but you should
- 13:12have a ritual. So that way you, you check all
- 13:14the boxes, you know, you got everything you need, you're
- 13:18checking your tire warmers. I remember, you know, I remember
- 13:22not remember, I've had a few experiences My tire warmers were
- 13:26off for one reason or another and and, you know, so now I, um,
- 13:31I'm prone to check my one of my warm is at least four times
- 13:34before I get out there just to make sure something didn't
- 13:37happen because you know, it's like you can set you can check
- 13:41your tire pressure. You can put your warmers on and
- 13:43and for whatever reason you go back and and something is off,
- 13:49you don't want to go out there and risk anything you want to
- 13:51make. Sure everything I said isn't
- 13:52working order so you want to check it out.
- 13:54Warm. It's just walk over to your
- 13:56bike. Just put your hand on it and
- 13:57make sure you get a little Heat going.
- 13:59Yeah, keep the confidence up. So exactly.
- 14:02And and you know, and and Leroy's point is, there's you
- 14:06know, as we try to do the two categories of professional
- 14:09professional again, is someone who's trying to make a living
- 14:13from it. Whether you're a privateer or
- 14:14you're signed to wanted manufacturers or some team out
- 14:18there or your individual who's you know Finance it however you
- 14:23find Anson it. The Enthusiast General.
- 14:26He's not trying to make a living from it, but they still want to
- 14:29go out there and be the best versions of themselves.
- 14:31Every lap they can be. So the work ethic is the same
- 14:36but the did I think the overall goal is different?
- 14:39You still want to get Plastics at the end of the weekend, but
- 14:43you're not. If you're an amateur you may not
- 14:45be you know in a rush to become an expert in this year.
- 14:48An expert, you may not be in a rush to set the lap record, you
- 14:51know what I mean and you know the plastic is make you proud
- 14:54but You know, you can't be in a rush out here, you got to take
- 14:57your time and you you take it, step-by-step corner by corner
- 15:03and the more seat time you get, you know, the better you will
- 15:07improve, you will make mistakes but you just just keep getting
- 15:12that it and keep your focus hi-yah.
- 15:15And and let's talk about the the mistakes in the focus for a
- 15:18little bit because, you know, we, I guess we have different.
- 15:22We have 10 years of experience. Three years of experience.
- 15:27What mistakes have you had? Let's talk about some of the
- 15:29mistakes you've made. It the shows not long enough so
- 15:38we should we start from like, you know, getting to the track
- 15:41and I said yeah, just getting to the track, setting up going out,
- 15:44you know, talk a little bit about your first experience but
- 15:47more, you know, in in the Northeast that the track is such
- 15:51a technical track on that. This three different classes
- 15:54you'd is a novice is a mature and is an expert.
- 15:58So we talked a little bit when you're a novice and get into the
- 16:00track and the mistakes and then you know, we'll talk about About
- 16:03you being an amateur and then some of the mistakes and I'll
- 16:07tell you about mine, it was funny as I made the same mistake
- 16:11actually as both classes and all of a sudden an amateur, but I
- 16:15can go over the first one as as a novice riding the 400.
- 16:21That I rented I was you know just riding the laughs feeling
- 16:26comfortable. Getting used to the lines.
- 16:29You know, you know you try to follow somebody.
- 16:33To see what they're doing and try to keep upright and had a
- 16:37few sessions in me. And there's one session that
- 16:40there was a think it was a coach or I don't know who I was, but
- 16:44they had the same 400cc as I hmm, and they passed me and I
- 16:50was like, all the stuff they passed me, I can keep up, right?
- 16:55But that's that's a good, you know, you need a, you know, you
- 16:58need a tow well that was a mistake that I made right there,
- 17:02you know. No, I wasn't focused on myself,
- 17:04got you got so yes. So what I try to do is keep up
- 17:07with someone who had more experience and actually got some
- 17:11footage if you want to check it on my G channel.
- 17:13So turn one, he hits the corner really well.
- 17:19And I'm just like whole like shocked because I'm that it to
- 17:22that level yet. And then I hit turn one a and I
- 17:26had too much bar input and just lost fragile.
- 17:29Yeah. And I didn't know, like I said,
- 17:31I don't know what happened. We're sending cold tires, but as
- 17:35learning as you go faster, you can't use.
- 17:37Handlebars goes along with the Spanish but right now the first
- 17:40mistake. Yeah, I mean, you know, but I
- 17:43got up and I was fine with it and it sounds like this kind of,
- 17:47you know, the same mistakes I've made as far as on the track.
- 17:51I mean, you know, we could talk about, you know, setting up and
- 17:54and not picking up, you know, not having the experience to
- 17:57know if it rains, which part of the track floods.
- 18:00So you probably don't want to camp out which part.
- 18:03The track floods. So I've spent a few rounds, you
- 18:07know, in a pond because I was I was set up in a place where tend
- 18:12to hold the most water if you show up late, like midnight,
- 18:151:00. Yeah, and it's packed and
- 18:17response that are open. That's the flat spot.
- 18:18Yeah, yeah, yeah, listen, did you say that again?
- 18:21Say that again. Say that again you show up late,
- 18:24you know, the trash over the track like the one in the
- 18:27morning. You know, everyone's already set
- 18:29up spots that are open usual for lunch but listen.
- 18:33You know, I didn't you, you've only been riding for three years
- 18:35and you figure that out. I have I'm learning right now
- 18:37because you're absolutely right now that I think about it.
- 18:43And if you're fortunate enough to friend some people, they
- 18:45might be able to save you a good spot.
- 18:47So definitely make friends, and, you know what I mean?
- 18:52So, you know, not riding, but the same thing, I think the
- 18:55biggest mistakes. They're professionals
- 18:58enthusiasts makes is losing focus.
- 19:00We're and and focus. Starts from when you decide,
- 19:06you're going to race in that weekend, you know what I mean?
- 19:08Focus doesn't start when you go out on a track for practice.
- 19:11Focus starts. When you, when you started to
- 19:13plan, when you're packing your trailer or packing, whatever,
- 19:16making sure you have everything you need, don't want to forget a
- 19:18wrench, don't want to forget to tie warmer, don't want to
- 19:21forget, you know, cheer. Because now you're spending more
- 19:24money, then then you have to, or, you know, you're dependent
- 19:28on someone else's tools or food or whatever, so, Focus really
- 19:32starts. From the time you decide that
- 19:34okay, I'm going to the racetrack this weekend or whatever we can
- 19:37you decide get all your things in order, you know, whatever
- 19:41your practice is your practice, you know, if you go off a
- 19:44memory, go off and memory. If you write things down on
- 19:46paper, on a computer or phone or whatever, whatever it is, have
- 19:49your list have your stuff check, make sure you have all the
- 19:52things you have. Because once you sit on the
- 19:55bike, Actually once you get to the track is too late.
- 19:59Well like you said, like Leroy said, once you leave the house,
- 20:04you know he like it's like escaping from reality.
- 20:07Yeah. You know.
- 20:08So you actually got to focus from there to so your mindset is
- 20:12all on the track which are going to do.
- 20:15We are going to meet what you're going to eat, you know and then
- 20:18you go through the ritual. Yeah.
- 20:19So so Focus definitely starts before the track, you know and I
- 20:25you know, And I that's not something that I created.
- 20:29I mean, you know, I've heard the great say it and then that's
- 20:33where it is. It starts there.
- 20:34And, you know, it's very easy to lose, lose focus and for me and
- 20:38competition, you know, it's when somebody passes you or somebody
- 20:43makes, you know, in my case, you know, makes a bad move and and
- 20:47I'm upset because I didn't think it was a clean pass and I gotta
- 20:51pass them. And my goal is now to pass them
- 20:53in versus, you know, finishing the I can and Jenna.
- 20:57And, and for me, I crashed because I my focus was chasing
- 21:01somebody down. Instead of, you know, a ride in
- 21:04my ride and at the end of the day, you gotta ride your ride.
- 21:07Whatever the bike is given you. Whenever your body or your mind
- 21:09is given you. That's the ride.
- 21:11You got to do for that day. You know, if you try to do
- 21:14something else, you know, and don't get me wrong, you can warm
- 21:17yourself up, you know. I'm, you know.
- 21:19I'm generally, you know, I warm up and my fastest lap so usually
- 21:24my last couple of laps and if you're that kind of right, which
- 21:27is not good because, you know, then you're trying to chase
- 21:30people down. So I'm not sitting here saying,
- 21:32you know, that's the way you should ride.
- 21:34I'm just like, you know, for some people you know, we you
- 21:38start out slower but you still, you know, you can't lose focus.
- 21:42You can't lose focus. So going on my second incident,
- 21:47I was chasing someone down thinking that I can.
- 21:53Get by them in certain Corners. So that's another thing you
- 21:56gotta practice is what you get, you know, fast enough for, you
- 22:00know, up to speed where you think you're confident, you got
- 22:03to work on other things. Like passing you're getting past
- 22:07and stuff like that. So I try to make a move past
- 22:09someone but I wasn't on the right racing line and I didn't
- 22:12know that at the time and I lost it in turned 12, so I was
- 22:16actually chasing him down trying to get past in one and I lost
- 22:19Focus. Instead of just trying to see if
- 22:23You make a mistake, right? A cleaner, passing.
- 22:25Yes. And as far as Focus, you know,
- 22:27when you go on a track, what type of focus you want to focus
- 22:30on, you know, you gotta find each turn, he there's, there's
- 22:33markers where you want to have muscle memory for.
- 22:36So, like each turn, you want to know where your RPMs, like,
- 22:40where your bike sounds after you.
- 22:42Let go of the throttle or when you break in and certain parts,
- 22:46there's part certain parts only track.
- 22:47Where when you up to speed you can you can memorize your right.
- 22:51Yes. And I guess that would be other
- 22:53part memory, right? Because you have to focus on
- 22:55that and you got to do that consistently until you're off
- 22:58the track, right? Yeah.
- 22:59And and you know when I'm at we're not going to teach you how
- 23:02to ride will. Tell you go to the schools and
- 23:04go to the professionals. But what I, you know, I
- 23:08regurgitate what they've said to me.
- 23:10Probably you as well, you'll take notes, everything is about
- 23:14notes, it's, you know, Street ride in.
- 23:17I've never raised on the street bikes.
- 23:20I don't know what that's like and I won't ever do it.
- 23:24I've race cars on the streets and I'm not recommending it, but
- 23:27I've done it. But the track is a little
- 23:29different. The track is like, you know,
- 23:32learning a dance routine or if your Martial Arts learning a
- 23:35form or something like that, it's muscle memory, the faster
- 23:40you're going to go as muscle memory for the Fast and the
- 23:42professional guys show. They're going to learn a track
- 23:45faster than we are but they're going to break at the same time
- 23:48every corner they're going to gas at the same time if they
- 23:50make a mistake then recover from it however best they can.
- 23:53Can but it's just how well you can be consistent 48 laps 16
- 24:00laps 20 laps or whatever the races.
- 24:03There had to be a consistent and that takes a lot of focus got to
- 24:07be in shape. And, you know, when you get to
- 24:10the track, you have to set your boundaries, you know, you have
- 24:13to have your alone time. Yeah, yeah.
- 24:17Get your mind, right? It's your mind, right?
- 24:19It's not, it's not all fun and games until after, and in the
- 24:22beginning, it's different because you don't know right in
- 24:25the beginning. You're trying to figure that
- 24:26out. If you look young Riders,
- 24:29probably easier than if you were older writer.
- 24:31I mean, I only know from my perspective, But like the first
- 24:33few years I was lost and you know, and it only took a while,
- 24:39it took a little bit to for me to get find a routine and and to
- 24:43find where a space where I was like, okay, you know, I kind of
- 24:46know what's going on now and kind of, you know, I can kind of
- 24:49do these things now and you know that, you know what I mean and
- 24:53you know, so everyone is going to be different that way, you
- 24:56know, there's some people that first time on a racetrack and
- 24:58the very competitive there's other people's and make them eat
- 25:01people. May take, you know, No, some
- 25:04rounds. So, here, when I have my first
- 25:06time on a track, I didn't know anything, but it, but a suit.
- 25:10And I'll, but I was fortunate to be around a good environment
- 25:14that I asked. A lot of questions.
- 25:15Yeah, it's got me onto the track, the next season and, and,
- 25:20and now I'm trying to, you know, Express that how good it is and
- 25:24how they safe, you can be out there.
- 25:27So right, right. Right.
- 25:29It, which is pretty cool, which is the most important thing is
- 25:31how safe you can be. In such a risky environment and
- 25:36there's different levels of it, you know what I mean?
- 25:40So, you know, so yeah. So you know, shout out to Leroy
- 25:42for us and that's that note because, you know, you know,
- 25:47we're still very new at this podcast and, you know, we're not
- 25:52trying to exclude any part of racing because, you know, for a
- 25:56lot of different people with a lot of different reasons why
- 25:59they go race. And but one thing is important
- 26:01is like, once you get to the We get to the track, you have to be
- 26:04focused regardless if you're a professional and you go and Club
- 26:07racing just to you know build your skills and compete against
- 26:10the the best club riders or your Club rider that's just starting
- 26:14out. At the end of the day, focus is
- 26:17the main thing planning out your weekend, you know, and this is
- 26:21even before like the bike, right?
- 26:23Yeah. You want to make sure you're
- 26:24comfortable. You want to get it on and be
- 26:26doing all this and like 10:00 at night.
- 26:29And then it gets cold at the track.
- 26:31Yeah, you know and Looking around for some experience.
- 26:34So if you're an experienced rider showing up the track at
- 26:38five in the morning and setting up, you already know what to
- 26:40expect. If you're a new Rider setting up
- 26:43a track at 5:00 in the morning, you're going to be useless at
- 26:458:00 in the morning, going to be useless.
- 26:49You know what I mean? Because it's new.
- 26:51So you know, the universe gives us all type of things, you never
- 26:55know what's going to happen. Listen, I've gone race in total,
- 27:01my car going racing You know, and still made the race, you
- 27:06know? And and and and you know where
- 27:09if I just started racing I probably would have just turned
- 27:12around and went home. You know, I've been fortunate
- 27:15enough to ride with some writers.
- 27:17You know? You see folks and their Leathers
- 27:19fixing their bikes changing, the attires doing whatever because
- 27:22you know, it's not just being on a track, you know, it's the
- 27:26whole weekend is how you survive the whole weekend.
- 27:28You know what I mean? What, how much you going to push
- 27:31yourself to get back out on the track when Nothing bad happened,
- 27:33bad happens. You know, your bike is not
- 27:35working and you got to, you know, I've seen people do engine
- 27:38swaps and two hours and go back out and go racing, you know, so
- 27:42it's not and and in the beginning, you know, if the
- 27:46temperature wasn't right, I wouldn't race.
- 27:49But you know, it's like a It's like a marathon you know to mean
- 27:55you want to see What You're Made Of and and and it's not just
- 27:58being on a track. It's everything.
- 28:01How you how you survived the whole experience.
- 28:03You know what you got? You know?
- 28:05And as a new writer and you know, we'll have some folks on
- 28:09that Italian I could the many ways and I'll say it again as
- 28:12many races where I just didn't feel like I wanted to go race
- 28:15and and then I've been around some people and I see the level
- 28:18of which they the instead of them saying, you know what?
- 28:21I do my shit. It was broken on the exhaust is
- 28:24came off. I'm done.
- 28:26No, they spend 20 minutes wet and getting their bike back
- 28:29together to go out and go race again.
- 28:31And and that's the part of it, right?
- 28:33Because at the end of the day, like Leroy said, when you're
- 28:37coming home, you know, you always want to come home.
- 28:40You know what I mean? And when you come home, and you
- 28:42said, yo, my bike, broke my attitude, your radiator at
- 28:47change the string, go mad to change, whatever.
- 28:49And my suit had to borrow a suit and then Came home and I got
- 28:53Plastics to they do this. It makes you different human
- 28:58being and as you know and there's that, that's all I can
- 29:03say. It just makes you different
- 29:04human being because motorcycle racing.
- 29:08You know, the best regardless if your enthusiasts or professional
- 29:13the best ones. Don't quit.
- 29:15You know you might see Sports where you noticed a second and a
- 29:18half and somebody believes they can win the game you know at the
- 29:21end of that that's It is it's the best of the best,
- 29:24regardless, you know. And and when you see it, it
- 29:28actually like when I first saw it, I didn't understand it when
- 29:32I started when I experienced it for myself.
- 29:33It was just like, yeah. I got to get back out there.
- 29:37Like when I went down the first thing someone told me is get
- 29:41back out there. Yeah today.
- 29:42Yeah and I'm just like I don't think I want to go back out
- 29:45there. I don't want to, I don't want to
- 29:46go on my last session and I'm like, no, I'm telling you get
- 29:49back out there. Yeah, so they forced me to our
- 29:52fault. And that was the best thing that
- 29:54could ever happen. I mean it will slow you down a
- 29:56little bit but you know, you got it.
- 29:58Keep getting back, you know, yeah, you got to get up, get
- 30:01back out there, don't quit. Yeah, that that that's, that's
- 30:04it. Regardless if you were
- 30:05professional going through easiest, you know what I'm
- 30:08saying? At the end of the day, whatever
- 30:10hand you're dealt, you know, it's you can easily just pack up
- 30:13and go home and there's nothing wrong with that and I've done
- 30:15it. You know what I'm saying?
- 30:17And and and and you know I've seen other folks do it too but I
- 30:21don't do that anymore. And I think you know when you go
- 30:24to school or put our track day it's like a high school or
- 30:28college. You find Riders through the
- 30:31round the first time and you develop a relationship or
- 30:34friendship and you talk and you ride on the track with the same
- 30:40time. And when you get off, you
- 30:42discuss everything and then when you try to go again and that's
- 30:46how you develop a low Bond. So you always have someone
- 30:49around to your right? So, you know, and And that's
- 30:53just, we are not talking about the bikes.
- 30:55Now, as far as the bikes your bike, you know, if you're a new
- 31:00Rider, I remember, you know, let's let's have, you talked and
- 31:06I have a little more experience than you, what was it?
- 31:09Like, you know, your first time out on that 400 and then, let's
- 31:13talk about, you know, you bought are built race bike, full
- 31:16disclosure, you know, he bought the bike for me, but what was
- 31:20your experience like, you know? With that bike and riding with
- 31:24the rental bike and then, you know, having a erase built bike,
- 31:29Supersport Bill. Well, there was a so much going
- 31:31through my head. Like I knew I was renting the
- 31:33bike and it wasn't mine so I had to be careful and always riding
- 31:39a 600 on my most of my writing career on the street renting a
- 31:45400. I knew it was something I can
- 31:48handle but when I got to the track I didn't know.
- 31:52What was actually needed. So when I rented the bike, it
- 31:55didn't have like Tire, warmers, right and DOD tires.
- 32:00So when I got out there, I just wrote, you know, just as fast as
- 32:04I could, I'm not sure. I like it had rear sets yunos
- 32:10Woodcraft like had all the good parts on it but you know, it was
- 32:15it wasn't it was very light and It was easy to flick around but
- 32:21I didn't really know what I was doing, you know, as far as body
- 32:24position goes, I was just figuring out the lines and I got
- 32:29pretty used to it, pretty fast but, you know, my speed wasn't
- 32:33up there. But what I jumped on the 600, I
- 32:36thought I was ready for it and, you know, having a bike that has
- 32:41a suspension full suspension setup to my weight standard
- 32:45handlebars quick shifter. And again, the 400 didn't have a
- 32:48quick shifter. So While shifting every gear
- 32:52good straining. Yes very good trade actually
- 32:58easy flash. You know stuff like that that
- 33:00that will you don't have to focus on a lot of things you can
- 33:04focus more on writing, write it very help, my speed improve and
- 33:09focus a lot and the 400 was very good bike to practice on because
- 33:15all you need to do is a new Riders.
- 33:16Is learn to lines and cry. Get your get used to body.
- 33:19The Shari position getting used to being passed by Riders and
- 33:23not looking over your shoulder just being confident and
- 33:25predictable. Right, relax and relax.
- 33:28No, but that's the most important part, relax.
- 33:30But once you get into it more and want to improve, you do need
- 33:36better suspension setup in have a bike that is more race built,
- 33:40right? And going into that 600 that had
- 33:43was definitely a race-ready bike.
- 33:46It's very comfortable. You get used to it pretty fast
- 33:49as well. So I'm very fortunate at the
- 33:51bike and trying to improve more. Right.
- 33:53Right. Yeah.
- 33:54And I'll say, you know, my experience is, you know, is 10
- 33:58years in the making, I didn't rent a bike, but I bought a,
- 34:02someone else's race bike and that was one of the best things
- 34:06for me because, you know, it's when the bike is already set up
- 34:10and it's a good build, meaning that is not breaking down every
- 34:14second on you and stuff like that.
- 34:15And everything works. It's a beautiful thing because
- 34:18then you just got worried about your Position your break in your
- 34:21eyes, you have to worry about the bike at all, you know what I
- 34:26mean? And, and so, I had a very good
- 34:28experience with my first buying a first race bike.
- 34:32Like, you did my second race bike, which is the bike you
- 34:35purchased, and I had to build. My experience was a little
- 34:38different, you know, I went to, you know, when you first I'll go
- 34:44back a little bit because if, you know, I was new to
- 34:46motorcycles in general. So I didn't have a lot of Lot of
- 34:50connections with, you know, motorcycle mechanics or
- 34:53technicians, or whatever you want to call them.
- 34:55I didn't know who knew, you know, how to build a good bike.
- 34:58I know, I can tell you who can build a good race car, but I
- 35:01couldn't tell you how to go to build it.
- 35:02So I had to learn that, you know, and I had some people
- 35:05connect with some people and for the most part it went okay.
- 35:10You know, I end up, you know, buying a crashed bike, the 07
- 35:14that you have and and and trade in my race bike for bunch of
- 35:17parts. Somebody else and Go.
- 35:20Well, or could go pretty crappy depend on the person you're
- 35:24buying for. And and let's just say at the
- 35:26end of the at the end of the conversation with guy I wanted
- 35:29nothing to do with them because it you know some people some
- 35:35people mean well in motorcycle racing but not everyone means
- 35:38well and sometimes you may get a bad hand and and you have to
- 35:42recover from that because not every person in motorcycle race
- 35:46in all motorcycle mechanic or anything do it, most Cycles,
- 35:50bad. Most of them are pretty good.
- 35:51I would say. But there are few bad apples out
- 35:54there that that that will, you know, sell you parts that aren't
- 35:58as good as they should be or they claim to be, you know, I'm
- 36:01saying that kind of happened to me building that bike.
- 36:05And, you know, I have parts that I couldn't use because, you
- 36:07know, they did, they just sold me crappy parts, but if you
- 36:11don't know, you don't know. And so and and, you know, you
- 36:15know. So I'm sure there's somebody out
- 36:17there that can learn everything about motorcycles, are not
- 36:19guests. Rude.
- 36:20But all of us is going to have a bath at least one or two.
- 36:22Bad experience with some modified motorcycle folks,
- 36:27brother rate riding on the streets or or on the track, you
- 36:31know, there's some dealers that are just, you know, they just do
- 36:34some horrible things and and and and and not all of them are like
- 36:37that, but there's some out there like that.
- 36:40So yeah, before I bought your bike, when I was asking a lot of
- 36:45questions, like how do you guys afford all this?
- 36:47You know? I had a bike already at 600 and
- 36:52I wanted to turn it into a track bike.
- 36:54A little like, no, no, no, no, no.
- 36:56Get a race bike is don't build, don't build your bike into a
- 37:01race bike is it's cheaper. So, it's definitely cheaper, I
- 37:04built to race, but I don't know where to find a race bike at the
- 37:08time. I'm like, they were like, oh,
- 37:09check this website, check this website.
- 37:12So I didn't know like what to really look for.
- 37:14So like as you're right, so you can find a bike that might be a
- 37:18reasonable price for you. Self at the time.
- 37:20But you don't know what the writers done to the bike.
- 37:23He could just not have taken care of it.
- 37:25And everything is failing and just want to sell it and Rio
- 37:28you. And, you know, if you have the
- 37:31luxury, you know, and I always say this even when people are
- 37:34buying cars, you know, finally, if you already have a good
- 37:37mechanic that you know, see what they charge for now or schedule
- 37:41an hour have them, check the bike out on the car out before
- 37:44you buy, pay for it because it can save you, a lot of headaches
- 37:47down the road. If the deal is the iso, I had a
- 37:51bad experience with a second bike.
- 37:53I built. I bought that was built, but I
- 37:57was just too eager. I didn't I didn't look closely.
- 37:59I wasn't paying that, you know, it's like it's like, you know,
- 38:02sometimes you see the bike and I'm like a car, you just, you
- 38:05see, just see the good things. And, and I bought a race bike
- 38:09that I probably shouldn't have bought.
- 38:11And, and it cost me more money than it needed to do fix, and it
- 38:14does happen. And again, for the second time
- 38:17now, I've a so I bought Bought two bikes that were built to
- 38:21race, and I built to race by. I'm on my second race bike,
- 38:24build right now for my 2022 bike for next season.
- 38:28You know, there's, there's there's something to be said,
- 38:32when you when you, you know, if there's someone out there that
- 38:34that's a good deal, that they built the bike and it has like a
- 38:36few hundred miles on it, and it's relatively new that's
- 38:40great. If you know, if there's someone
- 38:42that, you know, there's someone that, you know, that recommend
- 38:44you to somebody, you know, and you can generally tell, but it's
- 38:48very important to get the Checked out if you don't have
- 38:51the skill sets to evaluate the bike for yourself and pay
- 38:54somebody to do that, because it'll save you a lot of money in
- 38:57the long run and race bikes usually crashed, you know?
- 39:00So, you know, you want to make sure everything's right like the
- 39:03forks, you know, straight make sure that the frame is good.
- 39:08No cracks. Yeah.
- 39:10But you always want to make sure there's like rear sets where
- 39:13they're replaceable binds. They're replaceable.
- 39:16So right key Things that you need on the race.
- 39:21Bye guys. I was I seen to notice no doubt,
- 39:24so you're listening to the be forever.
- 39:26Cool podcast. My name is Rex, 45mm along with
- 39:29TJ from two wheels and coffee and we talked about racing and
- 39:34then and in the US of a right, you know?
- 39:38And you know, so that's a lot of information that's been packed
- 39:41into this last show last show. It even should definitely check
- 39:43out the two previous shows and we're going to continue to just
- 39:47talk about our experience with Send in and trying to provide as
- 39:50much information as possible because that's the biggest
- 39:54thing. When you decide to go racing
- 39:57finding it information and and and getting it, you know what I
- 40:02mean? And you know, all the
- 40:03professional stuff. We will leave to the
- 40:05professionals. If you look at your suspension,
- 40:07you gotta find somebody who knows about suspension.
- 40:10If you doing engine work, you got to find somebody who's good
- 40:12at that framework. You gotta find somebody who's
- 40:14good at that everything else I think, you know, you can bolt on
- 40:18and built off. Self.
- 40:19I will say, I wrenched my bike more now than I ever did before.
- 40:25I found even would pay in some people, some people still make
- 40:28mistakes on your bike, you know, some of the guys, I raced with,
- 40:31they only reached their own bike because it just cuts down on the
- 40:35mistakes and also just cost because you know you may have a
- 40:38friend that will help you out and race weekend but if you're
- 40:42not going to have somebody help you out every race weekend.
- 40:44So you're either paying someone. Or you got to start learning,
- 40:49you know, the beautiful thing about it.
- 40:50There's a lot of information online that you can learn and
- 40:53and, and do, and, and figure out.
- 40:57So don't be scared to learn or ask questions.
- 41:01And the beautiful thing about this is, well, is this is a race
- 41:04weekend event, so you could just bring your bike and not race and
- 41:06just work on it. That is true.
- 41:08And there's also, where can you find all these people to fix
- 41:13your bike? Like you want to go to a whole
- 41:14bunch of different shots? 50/50 chance that there's
