- 2:23Speaker 8: offended by it. I got a nickname and I went
- 2:26Speaker 8: to when I was in middle school. No I know
- 2:30Speaker 8: you guys probably wouldn't be offended, but uh it was
- 2:34Speaker 8: Chew c h E. W went to a mean all
- 2:39Speaker 8: girls camp and some gals gave me that nickname because
- 2:42Speaker 8: it's a combination of Chinese and Jew.
- 2:44Speaker 2: That's great.
- 2:46Speaker 7: Hmm.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Can we go with like Chewyn?
- 2:49Speaker 2: We call you Chewy because.
- 2:52Speaker 5: Because Chew, I thought it was going to be like
- 2:54Speaker 5: they didn't like the way.
- 2:55Speaker 7: You ate yea Chew.
- 2:57Speaker 5: I thought it was comment on your table man.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Well, no, it's just Chew. Is hard to like Chewy?
- 3:07Speaker 2: That's endearing?
- 3:08Speaker 5: Yeah, just Chew.
- 3:10Speaker 3: There's already a pretty famous Chewy nickname.

- 3:26Speaker 7: Uh.
- 3:27Speaker 1: We're gonna touch on some wildlife politics involving one of
- 3:29Speaker 1: my favorite animals, the American Buffalo. We're gonna touch on crossbow.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Is this cross Bowl?
- 3:36Speaker 6: Love or hate?
- 3:40Speaker 2: Neutral?
- 3:40Speaker 1: On crossbow. We're gonna talk about Billy the Kid in
- 3:43Speaker 1: the astext. We're gonna talk about I'll be your huckle
- 3:46Speaker 1: bearer or not. We're gonna talk about the Denver Police Department.
- 3:53Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about a guy who really needs to
- 3:56Speaker 1: just buck up. We're gonna talk about hunted advice for
- 4:00Speaker 1: a guy. We're talking about the implosion of the Sierra
- 4:03Speaker 1: Club and a symptom of that or a cause of that.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Yeah. First off, here's a funny story.
- 4:11Speaker 1: So Sunday, Saturday, I'm with my two younger kids, my
- 4:17Speaker 1: older kids at work and with my two little kids,
- 4:18Speaker 1: and we're going out trapping and we go into I'm
- 4:21Speaker 1: not gonna name the ca I'll tell.
- 4:22Speaker 2: You guys, the coffee shop.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Later be like coffee shops around here, Like a designated
- 4:26Speaker 1: coffee shop is a soft place. Yes, they are soft places.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Like the most rugged thing that's gonna walk into.
- 4:34Speaker 2: A coffee shop around here be like a fly fisherman.
- 4:36Speaker 7: Do you know what I'm saying, Well, hunters and loggers
- 4:41Speaker 7: also walk into coffee shop.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Is not the feeling you get.
- 4:44Speaker 1: And we go into a coffee shop and I'm getting
- 4:46Speaker 1: a feeling. I'm getting like a feeling from the person
- 4:49Speaker 1: that the gall.
- 4:50Speaker 2: That works there.
- 4:51Speaker 8: So it's like it's like going to a gas station
- 4:53Speaker 8: and getting coffee versus going to if.
- 4:56Speaker 6: You're at a lucky Lil's at five o'clock in the morning.
- 4:59Speaker 2: That's a car that's a hard place.
- 5:02Speaker 1: The people that work there, not the dog un Lucky Litt's,
- 5:05Speaker 1: but like you know, the people that work there.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Place might do hard things.
- 5:09Speaker 5: There's a place that you can get a macha or
- 5:12Speaker 5: a yakkiata.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Or yeah, when you go into a gas station, it's
- 5:17Speaker 1: a hard place for people to do hard things.
- 5:19Speaker 2: When you go into a designated coffee.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Shop where you have to tell them what you want
- 5:23Speaker 1: and then go stand around while they make it, that's
- 5:26Speaker 1: a soft place.
- 5:26Speaker 2: It just is, Yanni, don't definitely advocate me.
- 5:30Speaker 6: I'm just asking, like, if if they have a little
- 5:33Speaker 6: sign that gives their Wi Fi passwords, do.
- 5:37Speaker 7: You feel like there's less or more judging that happens
- 5:40Speaker 7: at either one of those places judging.
- 5:42Speaker 2: It's just a soft place for soft people, I know.
- 5:45Speaker 7: But you're getting a vibe from her, so I'm wondering
- 5:47Speaker 7: if she's like.
- 5:50Speaker 2: That's my story, but I'm just trying to set it up.
- 5:52Speaker 6: Okay, I thank you.
- 5:55Speaker 7: You don't even know should we just start this is
- 5:57Speaker 7: why you invited me here or not?
- 5:59Speaker 2: It is? No, you're doing a good job. Thank you.
- 6:02Speaker 2: You're doing. I'm sorry, you're doing a great job.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I'm getting soft vibes. At the coffee shop. I'm with
- 6:08Speaker 1: my two little kids. She's making the drinks. They want
- 6:11Speaker 1: hot chocolates, She's making them. She says to my kids,
- 6:15Speaker 1: what you guys got going on today? My daughter says,
- 6:21Speaker 1: trapping like watching her for some sign, you know, I mean,
- 6:33Speaker 1: like some sign. And this is all happening so fast.
- 6:36Speaker 1: In my head, I'm watching for some sign of like
- 6:39Speaker 1: what condemnation, clarification and confusion? Nothing, nothing, And I'm already
- 6:49Speaker 1: thinking to myself, man, not even like a follow up question.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Okay. Then she hands the kids their hot chocolate and says,
- 6:57Speaker 2: have fun shopping.
- 7:02Speaker 6: Yeah, I'll point out you said it was a soft place,
- 7:05Speaker 6: but it's kind of a soft moved. Go buy hot
- 7:08Speaker 6: chocolate and a coffee shop.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I told you, I'm there. I'm there. I'm there.
- 7:13Speaker 1: It's just don't act like you don't get what I'm saying. Man,
- 7:15Speaker 1: when you walk into a coffee shop, I.
- 7:17Speaker 6: Know, Listen, you don't get judged at the lucky litts.
- 7:20Speaker 6: I will say, I'm not gonna judge you.
- 7:22Speaker 5: No, there's there's two gradations I think of coffee shops.
- 7:26Speaker 5: There's places that have drip coffee ready to go, and
- 7:29Speaker 5: then there's the places that do pour over and they
- 7:31Speaker 5: don't like a coffee shop or stand that doesn't have
- 7:34Speaker 5: just drip coffee. To my mind, it's you think that's
- 7:39Speaker 5: far and few between.
- 7:40Speaker 7: I mean most places.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Have what I what I'm saying is that there are
- 7:45Speaker 5: places that don't just have drip ready to go. They say, oh,
- 7:48Speaker 5: we could make you an Americano.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a place that deals the traffic and indulgences.
- 7:53Speaker 5: It's like, well, there's performance.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, I'm making sure you more for that performance.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Here's my other story, and this isn't even this is
- 8:02Speaker 2: a short story.
- 8:03Speaker 7: I liked your first one.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Here's another one.
- 8:06Speaker 5: I okay, he's ordered them in goodness, so it's only
- 8:10Speaker 5: gonna get better.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Check this one out.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I was happened to be skinning an extremely rotund raccoon.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I thought to myself, I'm gonna make some coon grease
- 8:24Speaker 1: and send it to Clay, just because I don't know why,
- 8:26Speaker 1: this is like a good idea. I'm not kidding you. Man,
- 8:30Speaker 1: you're gonna think I'm lying. You can call my kids
- 8:32Speaker 1: and ask I got three and this is not being
- 8:37Speaker 1: like this is not being fiddle fiddling around. Three quartz,
- 8:45Speaker 1: two of them are on my desk upstairs. Three quarts
- 8:49Speaker 1: of rendered coon oil.
- 8:52Speaker 6: How much of that coon? Way?
- 8:54Speaker 2: Yeah, he wasn't twenty pounds but just fat.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Three quartz maybe twenty pump Wow, you eating cook dude,
- 9:04Speaker 1: It smells I haven't tasted yet. It smells totally normal.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I don't think you'd know the difference. I don't think
- 9:12Speaker 1: you know the difference. Oh, my buddies, like you did
- 9:14Speaker 1: that in the kitchen, I said, My wife never messes me.
- 9:16Speaker 2: About anything like that. It's just a little shout out
- 9:19Speaker 2: to my way.
- 9:20Speaker 6: We got to fry a burger in that stuff or something.
- 9:22Speaker 1: See how I can't wait to do something with it.
- 9:24Speaker 1: And I took those cracklings and fired them up on
- 9:27Speaker 1: the roof. I had my kid fire them up on
- 9:28Speaker 1: the roof of the guest house so we can kind
- 9:30Speaker 1: of look out at it. And holy smokes, you never
- 9:32Speaker 1: see magpies get worked up. Here's my last story. You
- 9:37Speaker 1: guys can feel free to share a quick story. I've
- 9:39Speaker 1: got three. These are all hot off the press. Show
- 9:43Speaker 1: that picture Phil.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Here we go. Now, well, people are looking at here.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Yesterday we were goose hunting and got we're hunting Canada geese,
- 9:56Speaker 1: but got two snows.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Two snows?
- 10:01Speaker 1: How is that bird not only alive? Not only alive,
- 10:06Speaker 1: but fat as fat as his buddy. There's a picture
- 10:10Speaker 1: of a of a snow goose here that is missing.
- 10:13Speaker 1: It's all healed over, whatever happened to it is missing
- 10:18Speaker 1: over half of its upper bill.
- 10:21Speaker 8: Looks like a severe under.
- 10:22Speaker 6: Either scooping with its lower jar or turning its head.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I don't know something you know Max that Max.
- 10:29Speaker 1: I sent that picture to Max and he mentioned if
- 10:32Speaker 1: I sent it, see if you ever see anything like it,
- 10:33Speaker 1: And he mentioned it looks like when a cocaine gets
- 10:35Speaker 1: into its spawning phase.
- 10:38Speaker 5: A kipe.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it, Isn't that something?
- 10:41Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 10:41Speaker 5: I think that just looks like a person's nose.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Flying around being totally normal.
- 10:48Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 10:48Speaker 6: I'm looking at it thinking it's missing a chunk of
- 10:51Speaker 6: its upper beak, not that its lower beak is way long.
- 10:55Speaker 7: That's what he's saying.
- 10:56Speaker 2: You know, over half of its upper beak is just
- 10:59Speaker 2: not there.
- 11:00Speaker 6: But you were mentioned the kype thing.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Oh sorry, that's.
- 11:03Speaker 5: What But it gives that, it gives that vibe.
- 11:06Speaker 6: But you see fish like that that are mission missing
- 11:08Speaker 6: at well.
- 11:10Speaker 7: What's interesting to me in the missing part is that
- 11:13Speaker 7: it's like the nostril like reform.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of reforming happened on it. I don't
- 11:18Speaker 1: know why I didn't save I should have saved that head.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I didn't save that head. You know, I'll be able
- 11:22Speaker 1: to get it back.
- 11:23Speaker 2: A lot of reforming happened on that thing.
- 11:25Speaker 6: Did you check its crop?
- 11:28Speaker 2: It was in the morning and no, it was early
- 11:31Speaker 2: in the morning.
- 11:32Speaker 7: Man, those are just tough.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Isn't that something funny about that? After we hunt, we go.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Over to the farmer's house to thank come and say
- 11:40Speaker 1: hi and everything that's coming in from church and his
- 11:43Speaker 1: and the and his wife says, if you see two
- 11:47Speaker 1: white ones, And I'm thinking, and I said, well, uh,
- 11:53Speaker 1: we got those.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Is that a problem?
- 11:55Speaker 1: No, but I was scared to death.
- 12:00Speaker 2: They give you on that really fast, like yeah.
- 12:03Speaker 6: So those two were just hanging with the Canada.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Apparently they'd been hanging around for the last few days.
- 12:07Speaker 2: But she's like no.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Sooner as she's saying that, I'm like, oh, it's not
- 12:10Speaker 1: I hope that's not theirs. I don't know what I thought,
- 12:14Speaker 1: just I've been seeing them, but she's like if you
- 12:18Speaker 1: see too, And in my head I'm thinking.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Oh no, no, no, no no, and I'm like, well
- 12:23Speaker 2: we got those. Oh that's fine. Yeah, I don't know
- 12:28Speaker 2: how it could be alive. Yeah, that's it. That's it.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Yanni told us a great story, but you can't share it.
- 12:36Speaker 5: That's right.
- 12:38Speaker 7: Yeah, I told you a couple of good ones, but
- 12:42Speaker 7: you can't share what not because they're illegal. No, I
- 12:45Speaker 7: can tell you a story about my multiple car accidents
- 12:48Speaker 7: in one day, and that was not that good or
- 12:51Speaker 7: what I would like to say. I told the story
- 12:53Speaker 7: to Dan Flores this morning, and he sat there, uh,
- 12:57Speaker 7: seemingly entertained and listening intent. So I'll tell it again.
- 13:01Speaker 7: But you know, a lot of people still think that
- 13:03Speaker 7: hunting with dogs is somehow easy, easier. You're giving, you know,
- 13:09Speaker 7: way too much advantage to the hunter, you know.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Because they're just focused on the shooting part exactly.
- 13:14Speaker 7: They don't know what goes into it. A friend of
- 13:17Speaker 7: mine treed a mature time on Friday, let it go.
- 13:22Speaker 7: Didn't want to kill it for whatever reason. By himself,
- 13:24Speaker 7: he decided to be better if he had a couple
- 13:26Speaker 7: of friends with him.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Big Coffee shop guy. Huh, it's a big coffee shop guy.
- 13:30Speaker 7: I don't know, maybe, but he lets him go, walks
- 13:35Speaker 7: away from the tree around twelve or noon on Friday.
- 13:39Speaker 7: We're back at that same tree on Saturday morning about
- 13:43Speaker 7: nine am. So you don't know when the cat left
- 13:45Speaker 7: the tree.
- 13:46Speaker 2: But this is based off a hot tip.
- 13:49Speaker 7: No, we're all back at the same tree, that same
- 13:51Speaker 7: tree that he was at. Yes the day was there, No,
- 13:54Speaker 7: he was with us. We all came back together.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Is that routine that seems like like borderline harassment to
- 14:03Speaker 2: the mountain lion?
- 14:04Speaker 1: Chase them out the tree one day, then go back
- 14:05Speaker 1: to that same tree and chase them up a tree
- 14:07Speaker 1: again the next day.
- 14:08Speaker 7: Exactly. See, you would think so, right, because it's just
- 14:10Speaker 7: like a slam dunk, Right.
- 14:11Speaker 2: I would think that was a slam dunk.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Well, no, because by that point, got twenty four hours,
- 14:17Speaker 1: got the same as cutting the fresh track.
- 14:19Speaker 7: Well, it hasn't been twenty four hours, but you would.
- 14:23Speaker 7: In my mind, I almost said no because I was like,
- 14:26Speaker 7: you know what, I'd rather go to my own spot
- 14:30Speaker 7: that I'm gonna choose, and if I find the track,
- 14:32Speaker 7: which is usually like the most expart exciting part of
- 14:35Speaker 7: the whole hunt and when you look over and you go,
- 14:37Speaker 7: oh my gosh, there it is like I found a track,
- 14:40Speaker 7: Like I don't want to miss that. And we're gonna
- 14:42Speaker 7: go to a spot where I'm going to walk to
- 14:44Speaker 7: a track. I should Uh, I'm like, I'll go, it'll
- 14:49Speaker 7: be fun. I want to. I want to see what
- 14:50Speaker 7: like one hundred and forty and fifty pound Tom looks like,
- 14:53Speaker 7: you know, that's what the guest ofm it was, And
- 14:56Speaker 7: so we go. It starts snowing that morning pretty good,
- 14:59Speaker 7: pretty hard. It's snowing and it's snowing. We start on
- 15:02Speaker 7: the track. Mingus actually we left without the dogs so
- 15:06Speaker 7: we could actually just find the track and kind of
- 15:07Speaker 7: sort it out and see where it was going. Mingus
- 15:09Speaker 7: broke out of his kennel, so he rolls in there.
- 15:12Speaker 7: It wasn't very secure.
- 15:13Speaker 2: The rest of the dogs. Mingus is like the log suckers.
- 15:16Speaker 7: These kendles are right on the backs of snowmobiles, are
- 15:18Speaker 7: in the sleds behind snowmobiles. They take a beating and
- 15:21Speaker 7: so a lot of times the latches and stuff don't work,
- 15:23Speaker 7: and that dog is one to start pushing and checking
- 15:26Speaker 7: stuff out. After he gets boredered cold or whatever. So anyways,
- 15:29Speaker 7: he shows up and we find the track, and as
- 15:32Speaker 7: soon as he smells it, you know, it's he just
- 15:34Speaker 7: loses his crap. So we tie him off. The other
- 15:36Speaker 7: dogs come, we cut him loose. It's just, you know,
- 15:40Speaker 7: all voices are going off, and we're like, oh, yeah,
- 15:42Speaker 7: we're gonna have this toime and a tree. And ten
- 15:45Speaker 7: to thirty minutes, you know, thirty minutes later, the dogs
- 15:49Speaker 7: kind of slow down and they start having a loss
- 15:51Speaker 7: where they're not on the track anymore. It's snowing, a
- 15:54Speaker 7: lot of snow, a lot of snow, so we start
- 15:56Speaker 7: walking the track with the dog. Basically, long story short,
- 16:00Speaker 7: we get to a point a couple hours later where
- 16:02Speaker 7: the tracks are literally like they started as these like
- 16:05Speaker 7: nice cups in the snow. You couldn't see the track,
- 16:08Speaker 7: the you know, toes, but you could see a nice
- 16:11Speaker 7: cup in the snow. And eventually that cup has got
- 16:13Speaker 7: shallower and shallower and shallower, and then it was just
- 16:17Speaker 7: flat snow. And about noon we're like, we're not catching
- 16:20Speaker 7: this cat, and like there was enough snow where like
- 16:23Speaker 7: the dogs like couldn't even dig the scent out of it.
- 16:26Speaker 7: And he got away.
- 16:28Speaker 2: And he's so easy. It's not easy.
- 16:30Speaker 1: What's so hard about shooting some cat out of a tree?
- 16:33Speaker 7: So we were talking about it, like how easy it
- 16:36Speaker 7: should have been, and the guy was actually saying that
- 16:38Speaker 7: he's done it enough times that he feels like he's
- 16:41Speaker 7: batting three hundred on leaving a cat in a tree
- 16:45Speaker 7: and coming back the next day and catching it again.
- 16:47Speaker 2: What's good average?
- 16:48Speaker 7: So thirty percent of the time he's catching? Yah?
- 16:52Speaker 2: Want? Did I say thirty?
- 16:54Speaker 7: I don't know, randall because.
- 16:55Speaker 5: They're going down to the the another decimal.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Point one, not thirty point zero.
- 17:03Speaker 5: Well, that adds a whole new thing to it.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Batting of three hundred is one and thirty No.
- 17:10Speaker 5: No, means you're hitting the ball three out of ten
- 17:13Speaker 5: at bats.
- 17:16Speaker 2: What if they just did the other way, I would
- 17:17Speaker 2: know what the hell it meant. Number five Sports podcast.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Yeah, Spotify is released.
- 17:26Speaker 2: They're two twenty so this show is categorized.
- 17:30Speaker 5: In sports because they're sportsmen.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Spotify came out with the top sports podcast of twenty
- 17:39Speaker 1: twenty five. We're number five. The four of Bobus are
- 17:43Speaker 1: like actual sports podcasts. Number one is The Kelsey Guys,
- 17:49Speaker 1: and no one cares about that. But Randall's explaining that
- 17:52Speaker 1: now and then his girlfriend comes on the show, and
- 17:56Speaker 1: then kinds of girlfriend, all kinds of little girls listen,
- 18:00Speaker 1: and it gives them a It gives you like an
- 18:03Speaker 1: inflated sense.
- 18:04Speaker 5: Yeah, they're week two week downloads. Don't make them a
- 18:07Speaker 5: national number one.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Sports podcast, which Taylor Swift because if I was dating
- 18:13Speaker 1: Trump and Trump came on, we have yeah, huge boost
- 18:20Speaker 1: and we're Taylor Swift.
- 18:22Speaker 2: M hmm, well she's our date someone you gee what
- 18:29Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I was just trying to get a famous person in
- 18:31Speaker 1: the swifties. Yeah, so that's so that doesn't count Randall sex.
- 18:35Speaker 1: That's not a legitimate show.
- 18:37Speaker 8: And the other ones are yeah part of my take.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Yeah, like football sports, which got us thinking.
- 18:45Speaker 1: We're talking about like how how to like try to
- 18:48Speaker 1: harness some of the energy there, And we thought if
- 18:52Speaker 1: if someone tried to pick sports team wins based off
- 18:55Speaker 1: only mascot analysis because they love wildlife.
- 18:58Speaker 6: Can I can I ask you a question before we
- 19:01Speaker 6: get started? Can you name the cities that these teams
- 19:04Speaker 6: are attached to?
- 19:05Speaker 2: Seattle? And I don't know, because I think they moved it.
- 19:11Speaker 1: They did, They moved it, they did, And I don't
- 19:13Speaker 1: recognize any team that wasn't a team when I was
- 19:16Speaker 1: a kid. Like I still have a hard time with
- 19:18Speaker 1: TV channels that aren't ABC, CBS and NBC channels three eight.
- 19:23Speaker 2: You're not a team.
- 19:24Speaker 5: You didn't go to Max. You just stayed in HBO. Man.
- 19:28Speaker 1: I remember I remember when Yeah, I remember like your
- 19:30Speaker 1: parents leaving, like when a cable came out. I remember,
- 19:33Speaker 1: like your mind, dad had go out to dinner and
- 19:35Speaker 1: they like the last thing they'd say is don't turn
- 19:37Speaker 1: out Cinemax.
- 19:40Speaker 6: The football player remembers best as the refrigerator Perry.
- 19:45Speaker 5: Could you not know?
- 19:46Speaker 1: I don't count any team that didn't exist when I
- 19:49Speaker 1: wasn't a little kid.
- 19:49Speaker 2: It's like it's illegitimate in my mind.
- 19:51Speaker 1: But I feel like the Rams that used to be
- 19:53Speaker 1: a California team.
- 19:55Speaker 5: And it is once again, yeah oh it is?
- 19:57Speaker 2: Who is it? La? Huh?
- 20:00Speaker 5: I would have guessed that from LA to Saint Louis
- 20:02Speaker 5: to La oh.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Okay, I would have got that right. But I would
- 20:05Speaker 1: have got it right accidentally. I would have got trust
- 20:08Speaker 1: on this. I would have got it right as the
- 20:09Speaker 1: old yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah Rams and Seattle Seahawks and.
- 20:15Speaker 5: These are week sixteen predictions here. So so we're coming up.
- 20:19Speaker 1: We got rams and seahawks, and like it doesn't denote
- 20:23Speaker 1: what kind of a seahawk is an osprey the fastest animal,
- 20:27Speaker 1: fastest animal on Earth rams. It's like if it was
- 20:31Speaker 1: wild rams or like mountain rams, but I don't know,
- 20:34Speaker 1: it could be just some manure encrusted Yeah, and you
- 20:39Speaker 1: know it kind of like gross out about actual like
- 20:43Speaker 1: sheep rams all the fecal matter connected that's always hooked
- 20:47Speaker 1: to their wool, and then some of them had those
- 20:50Speaker 1: like grossly outsized testes. They would reduce the athleticism of
- 20:54Speaker 1: any thing.
- 20:56Speaker 7: But wild ram also has giant tastes for this.
- 20:59Speaker 2: But he's not he's not fecal matter and crusting. Hm.
- 21:05Speaker 6: But we used to call him ranch maggots.
- 21:07Speaker 5: Sure, I just think with the right game plan. You know,
- 21:11Speaker 5: you've seen the videos of birds of prey knocking mammals
- 21:15Speaker 5: off of Sure, yeah, I think there is one of
- 21:18Speaker 5: a sheep getting killed by a or maybe a mountain
- 21:20Speaker 5: goat getting killed by a bird.
- 21:23Speaker 2: If I go seahawks on this, I'm going because.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Specificity because by calling yourself the rams, I picture barn rams,
- 21:32Speaker 1: which are gross Okay, mostly gross.
- 21:35Speaker 8: Starret you calling it on Thursday December eighteenth game, it's
- 21:40Speaker 8: Seahawks winning over the Rams.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Yeah, now what the what are the actual people say?
- 21:45Speaker 8: Let me see that.
- 21:46Speaker 6: One's probably pretty close.
- 21:48Speaker 5: I would guess the Rams are good though.
- 21:50Speaker 6: Yeah, both good.
- 21:52Speaker 5: Now, if we're a real national sports podcast would be
- 21:55Speaker 5: betting the lines, we wouldn't just be calling winners and losers.
- 21:59Speaker 5: So I really don't no, Well, like you know, it's
- 22:02Speaker 5: like by how many Rams? By three and a half,
- 22:04Speaker 5: you know, I don't know about that. So so we
- 22:06Speaker 5: but we're just trying to get incrementally higher ranked in
- 22:09Speaker 5: the national sports podcast by.
- 22:13Speaker 1: And we're not going to do that by not being
- 22:15Speaker 1: We're not going to do that by not being like
- 22:18Speaker 1: more nuanced than specificah.
- 22:19Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, it's just a half assed attempt to increase
- 22:23Speaker 5: our relevance as a sports podcast.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Falcons v. Cardinals. That's a tough one to talking about
- 22:29Speaker 2: Northern Cardinals.
- 22:31Speaker 6: Which is weird to Arizona, but they got moved to Yeah,
- 22:36Speaker 6: and the kind of.
- 22:36Speaker 8: Falcons Cardinals is tough. Well, general falcons.
- 22:40Speaker 2: I just don't know what kind of Falcons are talking about.
- 22:42Speaker 7: And it's like, don't you think nine out of ten
- 22:45Speaker 7: falcons are going to take out nine out of ten
- 22:47Speaker 7: cardinals every time.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think it's more to it than that.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Oh okay, Like if it's geer.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Falcons or something, and I'd be like, I don't know,
- 22:55Speaker 1: it just seems a little like not specific.
- 22:58Speaker 5: But if you had to bet the money that you
- 23:01Speaker 5: need to pay your rent next month.
- 23:04Speaker 1: If you said, I got a falcon, I'm not telling
- 23:06Speaker 1: you what yeah kind, he said, And I got a cardinal,
- 23:08Speaker 1: I'm not telling you what kind. Yeah, I'd be like,
- 23:10Speaker 1: I think that the falcon, the undisclosed falcon will conquer
- 23:14Speaker 1: the undisclosed cardinal.
- 23:15Speaker 7: Ok.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Just just generally.
- 23:18Speaker 8: If there have folks December falcons.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Okay, but that logic falls apart if we get to
- 23:26Speaker 1: Bengals v. Dolphins of Bengal, Well, are they in the
- 23:32Speaker 1: water or not. They're playing football on the grass. So
- 23:35Speaker 1: if you throw a dolphin out on the grass, and
- 23:38Speaker 1: you throw a Bengal tiger out on the grass, but
- 23:42Speaker 1: I dolphins get too much attention.
- 23:45Speaker 6: But Bengal tigers very comfortable.
- 23:48Speaker 5: It's Bengals ad dolphins.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Just so we're clear.
- 23:52Speaker 7: Oh so we're on the water.
- 23:56Speaker 8: Yeah, I did look it up. Bengals can swim three
- 23:59Speaker 8: to four miles an hour.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Well, dolphins are good for about sixty.
- 24:04Speaker 8: At if they're at like their burst through sprint speed.
- 24:12Speaker 1: I look at this one more like I always looking
- 24:15Speaker 1: at it, more like dolphins get too much attention.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Everybody thinks they're right.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Yeah, they're like they're kind of like they got they
- 24:21Speaker 1: got a little overplay. It was like, yeah, I just
- 24:24Speaker 1: feel about dolphins are the wildlife version of that.
- 24:27Speaker 2: They get too much attention.
- 24:28Speaker 6: Imagine how cool it would be if you were watching
- 24:30Speaker 6: a nature documentary and you saw a Bengal tiger eating
- 24:33Speaker 6: a dolphin. Mm hmm, like you somehow.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd like that.
- 24:39Speaker 5: Yeah, but then you don't want the Bengal to eat
- 24:42Speaker 5: the dolphin because then the Bengals have a worse draft
- 24:44Speaker 5: pick next year. Because this season is already just completely
- 24:48Speaker 5: You've already see Rydals.
- 24:50Speaker 1: You should see you should have a sports podcast because
- 24:53Speaker 1: you know this stuff.
- 24:54Speaker 5: Yeah, well not really, but doing our best here National
- 24:59Speaker 5: Sports pot Cast Folks number five.
- 25:02Speaker 8: Wait, so is that Bengals winning over Dolphins?
- 25:05Speaker 1: Steve? I can't rate it like how you want me to.
- 25:11Speaker 1: There's an annoyance factor that I have with dolphins. I
- 25:13Speaker 1: love them, okay, but just they just absorb too much attention.
- 25:18Speaker 8: So you'd like them to lose.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Is that me? No.
- 25:24Speaker 1: When I was working on my Buffalo book, a guy
- 25:29Speaker 1: said to me, because I was writing about all these
- 25:31Speaker 1: different the reason I'm revisiting this in my mind is
- 25:34Speaker 1: because I'm writing a new forward. It's been seventeen years
- 25:38Speaker 1: since I wrote that book, and I'm writing a new forward,
- 25:41Speaker 1: and in it, I'm sort of doing around the country
- 25:44Speaker 1: snapshot of the politics surrounding the animal and things that
- 25:47Speaker 1: have happened since the book came out. Anyways, it's causing
- 25:51Speaker 1: me to reflect on a thing that happened when I
- 25:53Speaker 1: was working on the book, where a guy said, with
- 25:58Speaker 1: all this stuff going on the animal, right like, there's
- 26:01Speaker 1: issues in Alaska, there's issues in Arizona, there's issues in Utah.
- 26:06Speaker 1: All this is happening. And he said to me, the
- 26:08Speaker 1: thing is Yellowstone. It's a black hole. It sucks in
- 26:12Speaker 1: all the attention.
- 26:15Speaker 2: So all this.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Everything, all these things you're talking about, will always be
- 26:19Speaker 1: in the American mind unknown.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Because the park sucks everything into it.
- 26:26Speaker 1: And when people think of the politics of the animal,
- 26:28Speaker 1: they only can think of what's going on in the park.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Everything else is lost to them.
- 26:33Speaker 1: And I think dolphins are something like a black hole,
- 26:36Speaker 1: an animal black hole.
- 26:38Speaker 5: I mean they had flipper.
- 26:39Speaker 1: They absorbed too much attention in wildlife I did see.
- 26:45Speaker 1: I'd like to see the other guys, the tigers get them.
- 26:48Speaker 5: I did get to see when we were in Europe.
- 26:51Speaker 5: We went to the zoo in Vienna and I saw
- 26:53Speaker 5: tiger eating the leg of something.
- 26:57Speaker 2: It's one of the coolest things I've ever seen. But
- 26:58Speaker 2: they probably threw it to it.
- 27:00Speaker 5: Yeah, but just watching something chew and rip, that's all
- 27:05Speaker 5: I got.
- 27:05Speaker 7: That reminds me of a story I heard when I
- 27:07Speaker 7: was driving home from Wisconsin. I was catching up moving,
- 27:11Speaker 7: catching up with old friends Otter. Oh yeah, old fishing
- 27:15Speaker 7: buddy of ours down in the veil. That kid, call
- 27:20Speaker 7: him kid. He's not a kid anymore, but he's, you know,
- 27:23Speaker 7: much younger than us. So I'd like Colin Randall a kid.
- 27:26Speaker 7: You know, he's that age he's got. He's had more
- 27:29Speaker 7: for not being a hound hunter. He's had more mountainlining
- 27:31Speaker 7: encounters than anybody I know for just a dude that
- 27:33Speaker 7: kind of he's gotten more serious about hunting. But when
- 27:36Speaker 7: we knew him, he was a very casual hunter. Now
- 27:38Speaker 7: he's gotten more into it.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Just kind of runs into him.
- 27:40Speaker 7: Like, tells me a story about watching a kitten thirty
- 27:45Speaker 7: yards away, kitten mountain lion at in a big grove
- 27:49Speaker 7: of aspens, as you are bound to see in Colorado,
- 27:53Speaker 7: and the leaves are all gently falling out of the
- 27:55Speaker 7: trees and the kittens just sitting there on his back legs,
- 27:58Speaker 7: jumping up and swatting. He got to watch it for
- 28:01Speaker 7: like twenty minutes.
- 28:02Speaker 5: Kid.
- 28:03Speaker 7: Yeah, Well, this year he's hiking around and he sees
- 28:08Speaker 7: the head of a cow elk like kind of behind
- 28:11Speaker 7: the log. Goes walking over to the cow elk, and
- 28:15Speaker 7: he can tell that it's been kind of covered up,
- 28:17Speaker 7: you know, but it's not it's not registering yet. But
- 28:21Speaker 7: the first thing in his mind is like, oh, I'm
- 28:23Speaker 7: gonna open her mouth and check to see if the
- 28:25Speaker 7: ivories are in there and pop the ivories out of there.
- 28:27Speaker 2: You know.
- 28:28Speaker 7: He gets right up to her and literally is like
- 28:31Speaker 7: like gonna almost touch her upper lip or whatever to
- 28:35Speaker 7: look for the ivory. And he looks over and eating
- 28:39Speaker 7: on the hind quarter. He says, it's the biggest mountain
- 28:42Speaker 7: lion he's ever seen in just full stile and he
- 28:46Speaker 7: and all of a sudden the line was like, oh shit,
- 28:48Speaker 7: what are you doing here?
- 28:49Speaker 8: You know?
- 28:50Speaker 7: And boom took off. No, I trust him. Yeah, And
- 28:54Speaker 7: I'm telling you, like I forget him. And wasn't it
- 28:57Speaker 7: justin Carr and him We're walking down a trail and
- 28:59Speaker 7: at night and they had one coming at him. They
- 29:01Speaker 7: ended up shooting at it and then like.
- 29:03Speaker 6: He's just maybe just shooting a scared Yeah.
- 29:05Speaker 7: Something like that. But anyways, Mountain Lion magnet and yeah,
- 29:07Speaker 7: he's like that was pretty close. I said, did you
- 29:09Speaker 7: get the ivories out? He's like no, I laughed.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Here's a guy wrote in this is a good one.
- 29:17Speaker 1: In your recent episode of the podcast with Mark Lee Gardner,
- 29:20Speaker 1: when talking about Billy the Kid's affinity for the song
- 29:23Speaker 1: we call Turkey and the Straw, he said Billy called
- 29:28Speaker 1: it a guy yina because the Spanish language didn't really
- 29:34Speaker 1: have a.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Word for turkey. Hmm. I find that hard to believe.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Then he goes on to say, you asked him what
- 29:42Speaker 1: about wahallote, which is what they call turkeys in snore
- 29:45Speaker 1: in Mexico, and he didn't really have a response for that.
- 29:50Speaker 1: This guy wrote in Wahallote is a regional term. It's
- 29:57Speaker 1: borrowed from It's a It's a sort of borrow term
- 30:02Speaker 1: in some regional Latin American Spanish dialects, made from two
- 30:06Speaker 1: Aztec words.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Hui big and wilote monster big monster.
- 30:17Speaker 1: The literal meaning is pretty cool because it personifies the
- 30:20Speaker 1: bird's imposing appearance, but also symbolizes the importance of the
- 30:25Speaker 1: bird in the culture, in the in the culture of
- 30:27Speaker 1: those people.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Wahlote m monster bird. No, what is it? Big monster,
- 30:35Speaker 2: big monster, big monster. I'm sticking with that from now on.
- 30:39Speaker 7: Hey, I gave me a bunch of different nouns in Spanish.
- 30:43Speaker 7: El pavo, el guajalote is number two, El chompipe, al fracaso,
- 30:49Speaker 7: el pato, mariado, and el patoso. Okay, so yeah, must
- 30:56Speaker 7: be very regional.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Guyina, Turkey and the straw.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Over the course of the history of this podcast, there's
- 31:03Speaker 1: been something we've talked about a ton and this is
- 31:05Speaker 1: the last time it'll ever come up. And that is
- 31:06Speaker 1: whether in Tombstone, the movie, when Val Kilmer says to someone.
- 31:15Speaker 2: I'll be your huckleberry, the hell's he talking about? For
- 31:21Speaker 2: a while?
- 31:21Speaker 1: I got duped by the Internet, and I thought I
- 31:25Speaker 1: was reading one day all about how they screwed up,
- 31:31Speaker 1: and he was meant to say, I'll be your huckle bearer,
- 31:36Speaker 1: meaning I'll be your pall bearer. Why that as the
- 31:41Speaker 1: Internet tricked me into believe in the polls, like the
- 31:46Speaker 1: polls on a casket were made of hucklewood. And someone
- 31:52Speaker 1: pointed out to me, I don't know what hucklewood even is,
- 31:55Speaker 1: but I got duped by it. I'm like a gullible guy.
- 31:59Speaker 1: I'm like my wife at the vet.
- 32:01Speaker 4: I got duped And no, my wife gets duped by
- 32:09Speaker 4: like like she says yes to all the vaccine any like.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Any like, Oh this dog needs this has this problem,
- 32:15Speaker 1: and she's like, oh, we'll better take care of that.
- 32:17Speaker 7: This town is right with that. You gotta be careful, Yeah.
- 32:22Speaker 2: She's she they really I need to Yeah.
- 32:26Speaker 1: So, yeah, I got duped by the Internet on this.
- 32:34Speaker 1: I brought it up to Gardener Mark Gardner. He says
- 32:38Speaker 1: he he said, that's an urban legend and I don't
- 32:40Speaker 1: know what is huckle wood, to which I said, I
- 32:42Speaker 1: never thought about that. I don't know what that means.
- 32:47Speaker 1: So this guy, he's there's a guy that wrote in
- 32:49Speaker 1: he's like a Josh, what's the name of his wild
- 32:54Speaker 1: West podcast?
- 32:55Speaker 2: I got to check that up.
- 32:58Speaker 1: He's got a wild West podcast.
- 33:04Speaker 2: He says, Huckleberry and Gardner got into this.
- 33:07Speaker 1: You would legitimately run around at that time, you could
- 33:10Speaker 1: say Huckleberry.
- 33:13Speaker 2: No one knows where it came from.
- 33:14Speaker 1: It appears in magazine articles, poems, even advertisements in the
- 33:19Speaker 1: mid to late eighteen hundreds. It essentially means I'm the
- 33:23Speaker 1: right man for the job. The screenwriter took it directly
- 33:29Speaker 1: from a book about Tombstone.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Okay, but there's.
- 33:35Speaker 1: No reason to believe Doc Holiday ever used it. But
- 33:38Speaker 1: he's saying that Doc Holliday would have certainly known the phrase.
- 33:43Speaker 2: I'll be your Huckleberry, meaning I'm the man for the job.
- 33:51Speaker 8: The podcast is wild the wild West Extravaganza. I've never
- 33:55Speaker 8: listened to it.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't. I'm not I just read. I'm just yeah,
- 34:00Speaker 1: I don't know. It could be a whole show about
- 34:03Speaker 1: about I don't know what sounds like.
- 34:05Speaker 2: It's about wild.
- 34:06Speaker 5: West stuff and extravaganzas.
- 34:08Speaker 1: And extravagandas he says, you can't locate any mention of
- 34:13Speaker 1: huckle Bear prior to the movie tombstone.
- 34:16Speaker 7: Hmm.
- 34:20Speaker 1: He goes on to he kind of tracked down who
- 34:22Speaker 1: started the whole thing. He tracks it back to a
- 34:26Speaker 1: two thousand and eight post on Twitter where a guy
- 34:29Speaker 1: used the phrase I'll be your huckle bear. He finds him,
- 34:33Speaker 1: shoots him at DM, asks him, where did you hear
- 34:37Speaker 1: I'll be your huckleberry? He said he couldn't remember, but
- 34:41Speaker 1: probably from his brother Dan.
- 34:47Speaker 6: And there you have it.
- 34:49Speaker 2: A few people have.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Reached out saying that they heard it directly from Bill
- 34:53Speaker 1: Knight Kite Kite the former executive director of the Frontier
- 34:58Speaker 1: Museum and Doc holl the collection at Glenwood Springs.
- 35:02Speaker 2: So he calls mister.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Kite saying, hey, why are you running around saying I'll
- 35:06Speaker 1: be your huckle bearer? He says, you heard it online?
- 35:14Speaker 1: They have, so I think that we can. I don't
- 35:20Speaker 1: know I trust this guy. I feel like when Doc Holiday,
- 35:25Speaker 1: when you're sitting.
- 35:25Speaker 2: There and you're on a date.
- 35:26Speaker 1: You're on a date, you know, like you're just kind
- 35:28Speaker 1: of getting date in someone and you're trying to impress him.
- 35:32Speaker 1: I've done it some long time, but like you're throwing tombstone,
- 35:35Speaker 1: you know, And it gets to that part and you're like, hey, baby,
- 35:39Speaker 1: you know that's not actually what it was.
- 35:40Speaker 2: It was.
- 35:40Speaker 1: I'll be your hucklebear, you're wrong if you're trying to
- 35:45Speaker 1: impress her.
- 35:46Speaker 5: Yeah, unless she does her sleuthing though, mm hm, you
- 35:50Speaker 5: might just depress her.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Oh, like she might not go digging in.
- 35:53Speaker 5: Yeah, it's doubtful that she would.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Actually she did, then you know, you got to keep.
- 36:00Speaker 7: I think it would be just as impressive to say, hey,
- 36:04Speaker 7: do you know what that means and then explain that
- 36:06Speaker 7: it means, you know, I'm the right man for the job.
- 36:08Speaker 5: But then but then she would have been like, what
- 36:11Speaker 5: it means the context?
- 36:13Speaker 6: Yeah, or if she asked you to make dinner?
- 36:17Speaker 7: Do you think that in the context of that movie,
- 36:19Speaker 7: of that scene, that you knew that it meant I'm
- 36:21Speaker 7: the right man for the job?
- 36:22Speaker 2: He says, I don't know.
- 36:24Speaker 1: They're having like a tense moment and he's like, basically,
- 36:27Speaker 1: I'll kill you.
- 36:28Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 36:31Speaker 7: Right, he's saying basically I'll kill you the man, which
- 36:35Speaker 7: is different than I'm the right man for the job.
- 36:37Speaker 2: No.
- 36:37Speaker 6: No, because in that movie they're like going back and
- 36:40Speaker 6: forth like i'll kill you, you'll kill me, like, and
- 36:44Speaker 6: that was like, but in this hypothetical scenario.
- 36:47Speaker 5: She might not have been paying attention that closely to
- 36:49Speaker 5: the plot of the film, so maybe the context is
- 36:51Speaker 5: lost on her, and just explaining that Huckleberry is the
- 36:53Speaker 5: right man for the job might still impress her.
- 36:56Speaker 2: I doubt it.
- 36:57Speaker 1: On my first date, I had the man mistake. I
- 36:58Speaker 1: was in the museum and I made the mistake.
- 37:01Speaker 7: This is a first date or with your wife.
- 37:03Speaker 2: My actual first date with my wife.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Okay, you know, they played those little you can go
- 37:07Speaker 1: in those little booths and they play like those little
- 37:09Speaker 1: movies and then just starts over again. We came in
- 37:13Speaker 1: halfway through and I turned to her, say, don't worry.
- 37:18Speaker 1: This will end and we'll just sit here and watch
- 37:21Speaker 1: till it gets back to where we began.
- 37:24Speaker 6: They have a term for that these days. Don't take
- 37:26Speaker 6: her in.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Yeah, And she's like, oh, thank you so much for
- 37:31Speaker 1: explaining that to me. I was like baffled by how
- 37:34Speaker 1: we would take in the whole thing. You know, don't
- 37:41Speaker 1: you worry your pretty little head.
- 37:43Speaker 6: Yeah, this.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Will come back around and we'll watch the first part.
- 37:51Speaker 1: Denver police investigate body parts being removed from a luxury apartment.
- 37:58Speaker 1: Oh this starts out sad guy writes in due to divorce,
- 38:02Speaker 1: I moved into an apartment in a nice part of
- 38:05Speaker 1: Denver Cherry Creek.
- 38:07Speaker 2: That's too bad. Now, I wonder, like what happened?
- 38:11Speaker 6: He tried to explain, Huckleberry.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Man, I'm gonna be depressed all day about this guy's
- 38:19Speaker 1: marriage dissolving. It goes on, Yeah, just I mean, I
- 38:24Speaker 1: just gotta take him in to reflect on that, you know.
- 38:27Speaker 1: So he goes on and say he grew up in
- 38:28Speaker 1: western Washington, Okay, kind of slowed down, grew up hunting fishing,
- 38:34Speaker 1: kind of slowed down on hunting fishing, got into his
- 38:37Speaker 1: mid forties, and got back into hunting during COVID. So
- 38:44Speaker 1: now here he is, he's divorced, living in an apartment.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Shoots cow el brings it back to his high end
- 38:51Speaker 1: apartment building. It's real hot. The game processor is not open.
- 39:00Speaker 1: M He starts moving parts of this elk up into
- 39:04Speaker 1: his apartment, gets a visit from law enforcement officials investigating
- 39:12Speaker 1: reports of a man moving body partners from.
- 39:16Speaker 8: His pickup into his apartment.
- 39:18Speaker 2: A man moving body parts into his apartment, and.
- 39:24Speaker 8: I wonder, like what the person reporting him must have thoughts.
- 39:31Speaker 1: Run away, I would expect him to be moving body
- 39:34Speaker 1: parts out of his apartment. Yeah, like, what scenario would
- 39:40Speaker 1: you kill someone? Put yourself into murderer shoes, you kill
- 39:44Speaker 1: someone dismember?
- 39:46Speaker 7: No, but his email says into pickup from apartment. Oh
- 39:50Speaker 7: so he doesn't quite Yeah, we're kind of we're missing
- 39:54Speaker 7: a little part of the story. But he must have.
- 39:56Speaker 7: Maybe this was after forty eight hours and he was
- 39:58Speaker 7: finally taken into.
- 39:59Speaker 1: The of a man loading body parts into his pickup.
- 40:05Speaker 1: That makes sense, because that's what a murder would do.
- 40:09Speaker 6: He sually be in a rolled up carpet though.
- 40:12Speaker 2: Yeah, well, unless you didn't want to look suspicious.
- 40:15Speaker 7: Suitcase chop it. We gotta ask when.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I see guys carrying a very heavy roller carpet.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I always know. I know what I was looking at.
- 40:25Speaker 7: It looked like he was holding in You can't fool me.
- 40:29Speaker 5: When I was doing my dissertation research, I found a
- 40:32Speaker 5: newspaper article little flex there you have little Well, it's
- 40:36Speaker 5: how else do you find this article? In the nineteen fifties,
- 40:40Speaker 5: a a woman killed her children. Oh, come on, and
- 40:46Speaker 5: buried them in the backyard.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Okay, but we already got this guy. Get divorced.
- 40:49Speaker 5: No, and the cops came and asked the neighbors like
- 40:52Speaker 5: did you see this? And they're like, oh, yeah, I
- 40:54Speaker 5: just assumed she was bearing a bunch of deer meat
- 40:56Speaker 5: from the freezer.
- 40:57Speaker 1: RD can you talk to Randall's the time, Krint and
- 41:01Speaker 1: have them try to practice.
- 41:03Speaker 5: A little talking about they were already joking about the murder.
- 41:07Speaker 6: I thought it was we were joking about elk parts,
- 41:09Speaker 6: not children.
- 41:11Speaker 8: Oh my god, man, I think he's trying to make
- 41:15Speaker 8: the point.
- 41:16Speaker 5: Anything, anything's possible that it would make.
- 41:19Speaker 8: More sense that the average person what would imagine that
- 41:26Speaker 8: they be if.
- 41:27Speaker 5: You just assume everything is hunting as opposed.
- 41:31Speaker 6: To human fault, the average person for seeing someone carrying
- 41:36Speaker 6: an elk quarter and thinking it might be.
- 41:39Speaker 1: But picture, it's like the picture you've seen the movie
- 41:42Speaker 1: The Burbs, best.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Movie in the world.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Dude, Tom Hanks is married to carry Fisher, kind of
- 41:49Speaker 1: like post Princess Leah, one of the movies Carry Fisher,
- 41:55Speaker 1: Like I now am very in love with her. Then,
- 41:58Speaker 1: not Princess Leah, but Burbs.
- 42:02Speaker 6: You know, of the Burbs.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Some new guys move in next door to town and
- 42:05Speaker 1: they start doing weird stuff. So I'm saying, like, here
- 42:08Speaker 1: you are in a luxury apartment building. New guy moves
- 42:10Speaker 1: in kind of like, what's he got going on? Then
- 42:14Speaker 1: one day's carry him bloody packages and load him in
- 42:16Speaker 1: a truck.
- 42:17Speaker 5: You could see that he would think like you'd think
- 42:20Speaker 5: the worst, especially if you've just been watching The Burbs.
- 42:26Speaker 5: You're primed for it.
- 42:27Speaker 7: See something, say something.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:29Speaker 1: The whole premise of The Burbs, the whole thing is this.
- 42:33Speaker 1: There's all this stuff that's so damning, damning, and it
- 42:40Speaker 1: builds you up to be like it was all a misunderstanding,
- 42:44Speaker 1: like every little thing can be explained away. But then
- 42:49Speaker 1: in the end there's a surprise twist, and it was
- 42:52Speaker 1: worse than anyone thought. My kids loved it when I
- 42:58Speaker 1: played it firm recently.
- 42:59Speaker 7: Oh, so I can play it. I'm gonna play it
- 43:01Speaker 7: for my kids. It's okay, it's an okay kid movie.
- 43:04Speaker 7: I got in trouble big time the other day. I
- 43:06Speaker 7: don't even want to mention what movie I started watching
- 43:09Speaker 7: with one of my kids, and all of a sudden
- 43:10Speaker 7: scene came on. I'm like, look the other way, blankets.
- 43:16Speaker 7: Oh you've got to tell us now. Oh really, yeah,
- 43:21Speaker 7: whatever it is, what it is? Yeah, inglorious bastards.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Yeah, that's a real good one for the youngsters.
- 43:29Speaker 6: She's Tarantino fil It'll just.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Be like the killing will only go on for a
- 43:35Speaker 2: few hours.
- 43:35Speaker 6: It does just be a tastefully graphic at all.
- 43:38Speaker 5: It's not gratuitous violence. Tarantino never went for that.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Yeah, understand kids in some ways, this is a statement
- 43:44Speaker 1: about excessive violence.
- 43:48Speaker 7: That par I figured it was. It was okay, and
- 43:50Speaker 7: she could handle it. It was the it was the
- 43:52Speaker 7: first sex scene that caught us off guard.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Okay, this is the guy like like this is he's
- 44:01Speaker 1: I love this guy, this great guy.
- 44:03Speaker 7: But he calls.
- 44:04Speaker 8: Himself out in like the first sentence he does.
- 44:06Speaker 2: He does, this is a good one.
- 44:07Speaker 1: I want this is one for people to think about.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Stephen Crewe.
- 44:13Speaker 1: I think I might be turning into the type of
- 44:15Speaker 1: prow I kind of glossed over his first sentence. You
- 44:21Speaker 1: are you are? He says Stephen Crewe. I think I
- 44:24Speaker 1: might be turning into the type of person I despise.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Him.
- 44:32Speaker 1: I bought some property in a midle He don't even
- 44:34Speaker 1: want to name the state. He's like, I bought some
- 44:36Speaker 1: property in a Midwest state a few years ago. The
- 44:41Speaker 1: property has a large creek about thirty feet across that
- 44:45Speaker 1: meanders through and serves as a significant dividing line between
- 44:50Speaker 1: one half of the property and the other. The creek
- 44:54Speaker 1: runs in such a way that it cuts through the
- 44:57Speaker 1: corner of the neighbor's property, leaving a small triangle. He
- 45:04Speaker 1: estimates his triangle to be about two acres of their
- 45:08Speaker 1: property on what I would refer to as my side
- 45:12Speaker 1: of the creek, because it is only accessible by crossing
- 45:18Speaker 1: the creek. When I bought the property, I knew that
- 45:23Speaker 1: there was a deer stand on the small triangle. And
- 45:27Speaker 1: after I purchased the guy who hunts the neighbor's property,
- 45:31Speaker 1: which was the owner's son in law, reached out to
- 45:35Speaker 1: me and let me know that he previously had permission
- 45:39Speaker 1: to cross my property to get to the stand.
- 45:44Speaker 2: I let him know.
- 45:46Speaker 1: That I would not that I would not allow that
- 45:50Speaker 1: same access, and he had no issue and understood my reasoning.
- 45:56Speaker 1: But he could always still cross the creek as he
- 46:00Speaker 1: pleased to access the property legally.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Okay.
- 46:06Speaker 1: So he's like, hey, I can get there no matter what.
- 46:09Speaker 1: It'd be nice if I could cross your land. The
- 46:11Speaker 1: guy says, don't cross my land, So he says, cool
- 46:14Speaker 1: across on the creek. Fast forward through the last few
- 46:18Speaker 1: hunting seasons, and they have on multiple occasions shot at
- 46:25Speaker 1: wounded deer on opening day of firearm season. From that stand,
- 46:31Speaker 1: he says, and I don't know if you would know
- 46:34Speaker 1: this is true or not, but he says, they all
- 46:38Speaker 1: ran off their property onto mine in another neighboring property.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Each time they have politely notified me and asked me
- 46:47Speaker 1: if they could track the deer across my property. State
- 46:52Speaker 1: law allows access onto other private property to retrieve game.
- 46:58Speaker 1: So I have a bly as I respect their communication
- 47:02Speaker 1: and honesty, and because you couldn't.
- 47:04Speaker 2: Not oblige, that was me editorializing.
- 47:08Speaker 1: They even said they would not carry weapons, to which
- 47:11Speaker 1: I thought, well, what the hell are you going to
- 47:13Speaker 1: do if it isn't dead, but kept that to myself.
- 47:17Speaker 1: I'm going to editorialize for a minute. In some states
- 47:19Speaker 1: where you're allowed to legally go on to another state
- 47:23Speaker 1: to retrieve game, the rule is that you can go
- 47:26Speaker 1: on to the other property unarmed to retrieve game, which
- 47:30Speaker 1: I had to exercise one time hunting sandhill cranes in Texas.
- 47:36Speaker 1: A couple times we had birds sail off on another
- 47:39Speaker 1: guy's place and you had to chase them, but you
- 47:41Speaker 1: couldn't chase them with the shotgun. But you were allowed
- 47:43Speaker 1: to go directly there, get your bird, come back, no gun.
- 47:47Speaker 6: I mean in this case, it was also just like
- 47:49Speaker 6: a gesture of good faith. Right, They're like, you.
- 47:51Speaker 2: Know, but I don't know about the legality.
- 47:53Speaker 1: We could do some quick work because there's only so
- 47:55Speaker 1: many Midwest states that have retrieval rights.
- 47:57Speaker 2: However, what he's doing, which God bless.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Him, Connor here, I don't want to turn him off
- 48:05Speaker 1: because he's like a listener, But then I don't want
- 48:07Speaker 1: to be this is tough love. He's he's he's trying
- 48:14Speaker 1: to make like he's doing a retort. Connor, the guy
- 48:17Speaker 1: writing in the listener, the fan is doing a thing
- 48:20Speaker 1: where he's like kind of doing little things to make
- 48:22Speaker 1: himself seem good. They're allowed to go get it, he says,
- 48:28Speaker 1: So why obliged? Yeah, but they're allowed to.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Right man.
- 48:35Speaker 6: But I think they were telling him like out of
- 48:38Speaker 6: good faith.
- 48:39Speaker 2: He says, so why obliged? But it wasn't your call.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Then they're like, I won't even bring a gun. Well,
- 48:43Speaker 1: how are you gonna get anyway? Well, then why not
- 48:45Speaker 1: say why don't you bring your gun just in case,
- 48:48Speaker 1: just in case, since I'm a good neighbor.
- 48:52Speaker 8: But I wonder about these hunters, like the direction that
- 48:54Speaker 8: they're hunting in and shooting in.
- 48:58Speaker 1: It's one point five to two acres. If I was
- 49:01Speaker 1: sitting on a piece, it was one point five to
- 49:02Speaker 1: two acres. All I'd be thinking about is what's going
- 49:05Speaker 1: to happen when I got to go on the neighbor's place.
- 49:08Speaker 5: I'm looking at his property right now? Yeah, at all.
- 49:11Speaker 6: And obviously on X and obviously can you find the corner? Yeah,
- 49:16Speaker 6: we shouldn't be talking about that.
- 49:18Speaker 2: No, but no, but no one knows his name. They know,
- 49:20Speaker 2: they know he's in the Midwest, and his name's.
- 49:21Speaker 5: Common only we know the name full names in the
- 49:25Speaker 5: show notes.
- 49:27Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, oh, Randall.
- 49:30Speaker 6: I feel like these people obviously had a much different
- 49:34Speaker 6: relationship with the previous owner. Where are they probably shooting
- 49:38Speaker 6: onto his property and he was okay with.
- 49:40Speaker 1: It because the old owner was like, oh yeah, man,
- 49:43Speaker 1: cut across my property, let's all have a good time,
- 49:46Speaker 1: let's be neighborly.
- 49:47Speaker 2: You know, that was the old owner, right. The whole
- 49:50Speaker 2: thing has started to become a bit bothersome to me.
- 49:54Speaker 2: To me, he says, this is the guy talking again.
- 49:57Speaker 1: Me being a very non confrontational my Westerner, would never
- 50:01Speaker 1: put myself in a situation where a dear eye shot
- 50:05Speaker 1: is pretty much guaranteed to enter another property forcing me
- 50:10Speaker 1: to interact with the owner, even though we have that
- 50:13Speaker 1: right as given by the state that I agree with.
- 50:17Speaker 2: I don't like that kind of stuff.
- 50:21Speaker 1: My property is not large, so when these situations have occurred,
- 50:25Speaker 1: it has essentially ended my hunt for the day.
- 50:28Speaker 2: How many acres has he got? Randal?
- 50:30Speaker 5: Uh?
- 50:31Speaker 2: Let me pull back up here.
- 50:33Speaker 7: Well, I don't do we want to give away that
- 50:35Speaker 7: information because then.
- 50:36Speaker 1: It'll come on the guy's name. YEA, somewhere in a
- 50:42Speaker 1: quadrant of America. Okay, somewhere in a quadrant of America
- 50:47Speaker 1: is forty acres with a creek.
- 50:50Speaker 2: I feel like I've been on that place.
- 50:53Speaker 7: Why I think. I don't know if he kept it out,
- 50:57Speaker 7: but I think that it's a narrow a lot of
- 51:00Speaker 7: context in the situation.
- 51:01Speaker 2: So maybe he should hunting his own place because.
- 51:04Speaker 7: The size of his and knowing the size of the neighbors.
- 51:09Speaker 7: Are you ready to dissect this or do you need
- 51:11Speaker 7: to read this?
- 51:12Speaker 2: No?
- 51:12Speaker 1: No, no, we're not there yet. We're getting there. My property
- 51:17Speaker 1: is not large or he did that. Oh, it essentially
- 51:22Speaker 1: ended my hunt for the day, as they have intruded
- 51:25Speaker 1: into the heart of my hunting area and very likely
- 51:29Speaker 1: spooked any deer that were in the area. I have
- 51:33Speaker 1: considered telling them my feelings about them hunting the very
- 51:37Speaker 1: small piece of property, offering to buy it from the landowner,
- 51:44Speaker 1: even building a fence around the triangle. And I even
- 51:49Speaker 1: hung a tree stand not far from the property line.
- 51:54Speaker 6: Hey, I'm here.
- 51:55Speaker 1: Too, there's gonna wind up being a Blood Trails episode.
- 52:00Speaker 1: This creek. There's gonna wind that be in a Blood
- 52:03Speaker 1: Trails episode coming out of this place and the not
- 52:05Speaker 1: so near future. So so he went and set a
- 52:11Speaker 1: tree stand up close to their property line.
- 52:15Speaker 6: I just don't think you can say they're intruding not
- 52:18Speaker 6: far from the property line myself, as a major game
- 52:22Speaker 6: trail passes right through the triangle.
- 52:24Speaker 8: No, but he meant intruding, like when they actually come
- 52:27Speaker 8: on to try to retrieve they are.
- 52:30Speaker 6: No, they say, there's it's more like they're intruding on
- 52:33Speaker 6: his hunt.
- 52:35Speaker 2: I'm baking up.
- 52:36Speaker 8: When they physically come on to his property to retrieve,
- 52:40Speaker 8: they are intruding.
- 52:42Speaker 1: No, he's saying, Okay, I'll do a quick recap. But
- 52:47Speaker 1: because I can understand with all the interruptions, that's why
- 52:50Speaker 1: I finished.
- 52:51Speaker 2: I want to fish the poor guy's letter.
- 52:53Speaker 1: I feel odd to myself and my morals as someone
- 52:56Speaker 1: who hunts public land in the West and often groans
- 52:59Speaker 1: over the actions some landowners take to protect their property
- 53:03Speaker 1: from hunters. Have I become the private land owner a hole.
- 53:12Speaker 2: Just to recap.
- 53:13Speaker 1: No, it's clear he's got a little chunk. He's got
- 53:16Speaker 1: forty acres. I'm jealous part of it. He's got a
- 53:19Speaker 1: little one point five His neighbor owns a little one
- 53:22Speaker 1: point five two acre wedge that sits on like what
- 53:25Speaker 1: he considers to be his side of the creek. They
- 53:27Speaker 1: keep a stand over there. When they shoot a deer,
- 53:31Speaker 1: the deer doesn't have to go far to get off.
- 53:33Speaker 1: A one point five acre parcel winds up on his place.
- 53:36Speaker 1: They have trespass rights to retrieve their game. They go
- 53:39Speaker 1: get their game. It's on opening DA a gun season.
- 53:42Speaker 1: They're now stirring around on his side of the fence.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Everybody's pissed. I got a solution.
- 53:45Speaker 5: It's a one point one acre using on X's He
- 53:49Speaker 5: oversold it shape.
- 53:50Speaker 1: To him, yep, because he was manipulative in other ways,
- 53:54Speaker 1: but heman he he like he could.
- 53:56Speaker 2: Have manipulated it and rounded down.
- 53:59Speaker 5: They rounded up, but he rounded up on.
- 54:04Speaker 8: That one gives those guys a lot of free reign
- 54:06Speaker 8: and go cross. This is probably not a fence, right.
- 54:12Speaker 6: He never insinuated that they're shooting deer on his property either.
- 54:16Speaker 6: They're like the old guy.
- 54:18Speaker 2: I think the old owner. Here's my solution.
- 54:25Speaker 6: I'd be so frustrated.
- 54:27Speaker 1: Let's just build intension. I think he makes a pack
- 54:32Speaker 1: a pact because here's the deal. From his bargaining position.
- 54:37Speaker 1: He might be on the receiving end of more people
- 54:40Speaker 1: coming on his land and vice versa.
- 54:43Speaker 2: But you don't need to come with that.
- 54:46Speaker 1: You could come saying. So this guy goes to the
- 54:50Speaker 1: neighbor and plays this little mind trick. He goes to
- 54:55Speaker 1: a neighbor and says, man, you know I got forty acres.
- 54:59Speaker 1: It's paradise, dude. But let's be honest, I could easily
- 55:02Speaker 1: shoot a deer that could get across the creek and
- 55:07Speaker 1: disturb your hunt on opening day. And I mean it's
- 55:11Speaker 1: not out of the questions that would happened to you
- 55:14Speaker 1: on my place. Well, there, we ought to do just
- 55:16Speaker 1: so I can feel better about it, because this has
- 55:18Speaker 1: been weighing on me, because inevitably me or one of
- 55:20Speaker 1: my buddies is going to send a deer over onto
- 55:23Speaker 1: your property.
- 55:24Speaker 2: We're gonna go chasing after it, as.
- 55:26Speaker 1: We have the right to do. But to think that
- 55:28Speaker 1: I would go over there and bump a buck, I
- 55:31Speaker 1: wouldn't be able to live with myself. So let's do
- 55:35Speaker 1: this in the first few days of firearm season. Let's
- 55:40Speaker 1: round up at dark. We'll call each other at dark
- 55:44Speaker 1: if anyone needs to come over and check on the
- 55:47Speaker 1: other side, that's when we'll do it, so that we're
- 55:51Speaker 1: not bumping anybody's hunt. Granted it might sit for a
- 55:55Speaker 1: few hours, but that's not terrible till dusk. What do
- 55:59Speaker 1: you say, old neighbor.
- 56:03Speaker 7: It would be a great way to handle it.
- 56:04Speaker 6: It is.
- 56:04Speaker 5: I think it's the most diplomatic way to handle it.
- 56:06Speaker 6: A financial hostile takeover would work. Now you just just
- 56:10Speaker 6: bake him an offer he can't refuse.
- 56:12Speaker 5: Does it change? Does it change your opinion at all?
- 56:15Speaker 5: That this creek is seventy five feet across? Why did
- 56:20Speaker 5: he say it was thirty I'm just measuring it with
- 56:22Speaker 5: Onyxes tool.
- 56:24Speaker 2: This guy's bad at measurements.
- 56:26Speaker 6: Seventy fives pretty seventy five is like a that's a river.
- 56:30Speaker 2: He's he's doing it. He's wading, he's not even crossing.
- 56:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know. The ONEX tool says twenty four.
- 56:36Speaker 8: That's a lot of effort then for these hunters to
- 56:40Speaker 8: get to that.
- 56:41Speaker 7: It depends on if you look at the property, you go, oh, yeah,
- 56:47Speaker 7: that's where you want to that's where you want to
- 56:49Speaker 7: be brill at his Yeah, because the neighbor's property is
- 56:52Speaker 7: like nine non timbered, so his tempercent that is timbered.
- 56:58Speaker 7: One acre of that happens beyond the other side of
- 57:00Speaker 7: the creek.
- 57:01Speaker 3: Or narrowing this place down even more.
- 57:04Speaker 1: No, No, I trust me. Here's the deal man. Now,
- 57:07Speaker 1: I'm rechanging my thing. Now, I'm rechanging. Now, I'm getting
- 57:11Speaker 1: like a like an eagle stern inside me.
- 57:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 57:16Speaker 1: It's like this dude, the more I think about it,
- 57:21Speaker 1: he didn't make up the rule that you can retrieve
- 57:23Speaker 1: game off property. He owns the damn land, right, It's like,
- 57:28Speaker 1: what's he supposed to do? Not hunt his own place?
- 57:31Speaker 5: So if if but here's here's where I play Devil's Advocate.
- 57:36Speaker 5: If a deer never crosses the creek, right, Like, if
- 57:41Speaker 5: you shoot a deer and one hundred percent of the
- 57:43Speaker 5: time it runs onto his place.
- 57:45Speaker 1: Because he's not going to cross. They'll jump a little creek.
- 57:48Speaker 1: Not jump, they'll they'll wade, but they're not going to win.
- 57:50Speaker 1: They're wounded, they're not gonna want to cross.
- 57:51Speaker 5: If they look at this, there's no way that any
- 57:54Speaker 5: deer is going to turn and cross this thing.
- 57:56Speaker 2: Have I heard of this creek before?
- 57:57Speaker 5: No? But I'm just thinking, like, so, if you owned
- 58:00Speaker 5: one acre along that creek and you just and every
- 58:04Speaker 5: deer you shot ran off your property, is your property
- 58:09Speaker 5: too small to hunt?
- 58:11Speaker 2: I don't believe there is such a thing.
- 58:14Speaker 1: The state allows hate the game, not the player. Yep,
- 58:19Speaker 1: the state allows retrieval. What is he supposed to do?
- 58:24Speaker 8: Yeah, but what about the intent of the hunters if
- 58:27Speaker 8: they know that one hundred percent of the time that
- 58:30Speaker 8: they cross that creek and stand on that little one
- 58:33Speaker 8: acre or parcel and hunt deer, that.
- 58:38Speaker 2: I don't believe. I don't believe him on that.
- 58:40Speaker 1: And I would invite people here at sitting at this
- 58:42Speaker 1: table to ask yourself this question. Of all the deer
- 58:47Speaker 1: that you have personally shot and scene gets shot, all
- 58:51Speaker 1: of the white tailed deer that you have shot or
- 58:54Speaker 1: scene get shot by a firearm, what percent have left
- 58:58Speaker 1: the center of one acre parcels a minority, minority for
- 59:04Speaker 1: a minority leave the area.
- 59:07Speaker 8: What if you're shooting as dear that is almost on
- 59:17Speaker 8: the the the over almost across.
- 59:20Speaker 7: The he takes one jump and he's on the neighbors.
- 59:22Speaker 5: If you shoot, if you shoot one dead nuts in
- 59:24Speaker 5: the middle of this triangle, it's twenty eight yards to
- 59:28Speaker 5: the property line.
- 59:29Speaker 8: But again, and if you double along it, you could
- 59:32Speaker 8: still you could still easy traverse that distance.
- 59:36Speaker 5: And I'm not I'm not saying that like his neighbors
- 59:38Speaker 5: shouldn't be allowed to do this. I'm just saying like
- 59:41Speaker 5: he's right and feeling that they're kind of being no
- 59:47Speaker 5: imposing neighbors.
- 59:48Speaker 7: You know what, my kids a lot I say, tough
- 59:51Speaker 7: titty said the kitty titty at our house that you
- 59:55Speaker 7: can add a little meal. But here's the deal, it
- 1:00:00Speaker 7: doesn't matter if it's one acre or another forty acre chunk.
- 1:00:03Speaker 7: We used to own a forty acre chunk that had
- 1:00:05Speaker 7: three neighbors each and then one neighbor was the county road, right,
- 1:00:10Speaker 7: so it was you get when I'm painting here, all
- 1:00:14Speaker 7: of the neighbors stands seemed like they were right on
- 1:00:18Speaker 7: the property line.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: Everybody knows is a screener. The bucks are on the
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: neighbors or they're crossing.
- 1:00:26Speaker 7: I don't know what they think. No, we call it
- 1:00:29Speaker 7: no no, No, that's the end of my story. I'm
- 1:00:31Speaker 7: just saying that, Like, it doesn't matter if it's an
- 1:00:33Speaker 7: acre or forty. People hunt on those borders where that
- 1:00:36Speaker 7: stuff is gonna happen all the time or u.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: The main border. We had to deal with growing up
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: deer hunting. You know what was we called the other
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: side of that fence.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: No man's land. Meanwhile, that guy was like, no, this
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: is the center of the universe. This is my farm.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: It was like, don't go down to no man's land.
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: I also think it's like, are those guys coming on
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: to that one acre, Like they ain't going there to
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: hunt one acre?
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: So now you're saying that the landowner owns the deer.
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: No, I'm not saying that, but like you see, like
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: you're gonna go hunt a spot where you're like your
- 1:01:12Speaker 6: intentions is like only to hunt the deer that come
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: onto that one acre.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Yes, if God said, if you said, Steve, you have
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: one acre, choose to hunt or not, you can go
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: on your neighbors to get your deer, I would go hunt.
- 1:01:34Speaker 7: I mean, imagine if that one acre was like sandwich
- 1:01:37Speaker 7: between Lee and Tiffany's and and Bill Winkie's, you know,
- 1:01:41Speaker 7: to each.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: Narrow, like connecting those two.
- 1:01:47Speaker 7: I know exactly where to hit him so they don't
- 1:01:49Speaker 7: leave my one acre, you know.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: Well, it's also raised the question how many how many
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: deer are they shooting per year? Like if they're just
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: screwing up his opening morning every year, I think.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: You just yea.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: But I already came up with a solution how to
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: thx that. I'm just saying this, dude, I'm saying in America,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: like I don't care if you have one tree, Yeah,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: I don't. If it's legal, if you're not in the limits,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: you can legally discharge a firearm.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: You have an acre. Your state says retrieval.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: Is okay, I don't think you're in the wrong. If
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: your state said retrieval is not okay without permission like
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: the one we live in.
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: And then you called and you said, what would be
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: the chances I could retrieve a deer on your place?
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: They say, the minute you touch your foot on my property,
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: I'm calling the sheriff. I'd be like, man, we can't
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: hunt the one acre, yeah, right, Like, no matter what,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: I don't care what kind of gun, we ain't hunting
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: the one acre. Yeah, because that guy is going to
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: call the sheriff and we can't guarantee that it's going
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: to stay on the one acre.
- 1:02:55Speaker 7: I feel like you have to answer his question. Have
- 1:02:57Speaker 7: I become the private landowner?
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: Asked I'm afraid so, with all due respect.
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: But his I think that's more of not a private
- 1:03:07Speaker 6: land thing. It's like a neighbor thing, because it's not
- 1:03:10Speaker 6: like private versus public.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: You know what doctor said to me the other day.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: They're telling me their day. Oh my friend, Oh the
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: same doctor that she's the CWD incident.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: She said to me. When a parent asked.
- 1:03:27Speaker 7: Is my doctor no no different.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: D D, she said, when a parent asks a question
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: about food for their kids, she stops worrying about any
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: parent that asks a question about healthy choice foods for
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: their kids. She never worries about the kid because the
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: parent thought to ask a question. She said, it's the
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: ones that would never think to ask. That's just her
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: a thing she's picked up over the years. Yeah, the
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: fact that you'd be like, hey, is it okay if
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: my kids, She's like, kid's probably fine.
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: They at least wonder.
- 1:04:08Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: And I also just think, like, so this guy, maybe
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: he's not so bad because he's at least wondering to ask.
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: He's also not saying that they're doing something horrible. He's
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: just saying like, this has sort of become annoying to me.
- 1:04:22Speaker 5: Is there a way to fix this? The pact?
- 1:04:26Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't think he's become a private land asshole whatsoever.
- 1:04:29Speaker 7: It'd be annoying to anybody. So you can do what
- 1:04:31Speaker 7: Steve said. I think that also offering to buy the
- 1:04:34Speaker 7: one acre, I mean if he can afford it by
- 1:04:38Speaker 7: definitely yeah, you know, I mean if an acre goes
- 1:04:41Speaker 7: for eight and like he's got fifteen that he can
- 1:04:44Speaker 7: spend on this, and just yeah, offer him and it's
- 1:04:46Speaker 7: that important to him, do it, Like it's not gonna
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: make anything mad to offer.
- 1:04:50Speaker 6: The interesting thing is.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: None to this.
- 1:04:52Speaker 6: I don't even think he'd be having this conversation if
- 1:04:54Speaker 6: that creek wasn't there, if it was just a.
- 1:04:57Speaker 5: Corner of Yeah, he's got a sweet, he's got a sweet.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: Trump's his chief diplomat, Steve Whitcoff, he's doing well. He
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: could maybe go over there and talk to him. But him,
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: when you get back from when you get back from Ukraine,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: you talk to my neighbors about their one acre.
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: All right, here's one. Here's a plea for help. I
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: never felt so bad for someone in all my life.
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: There might be more to the story, dude. You think
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: it's more of the story.
- 1:05:24Speaker 8: No, I felt real.
- 1:05:26Speaker 7: There's more to this story.
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: It might be more to the story. Hi Steve, I'm
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: from Alberta, Canada. I've been hunting for three years for
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: deer and have had no success. I'm the first hunter
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: in my family. My friends don't hunt, and most of
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: my colleagues don't hunt. Of the hunters I've found and
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: spoken to, they are all unwilling to provide me any
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: genuine guidance I've received at keep trying, and one day
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: everyone gate keeps their hunting locations. Tactics ideas how to
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: contact landowners, how to determine if the land is good,
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: the etiquette of approaching the land owner and.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: Anything else you can think of.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: I would say, with the notable exception of this show,
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: which has provided endless guidance on all of those issues.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: By I think he means local people in Alberta. I
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: don't even know what direction people go to hunt. I
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: actually believe some people tell me west to the mountains,
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: but I see images of them hunting.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: To the northeast or south.
- 1:06:47Speaker 6: He's starting to figure it out here.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: I tell my kids it's like your hunt were none
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: in your creeks in the Business River.
- 1:06:58Speaker 5: See a photo of a with a deer in a
- 1:07:01Speaker 5: big wheat field, and you're like, oh, kill him up
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: in the bridges.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: Yeah. So people are like, hey, man, go up in
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: the mountains.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: But in their pictures there to the north, they're like, hey,
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: go west in the mountains.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: He sees their pictures in there.
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: They're out on the plains.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: They're on the prairies two points north, south and east.
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: I'd stop asking those people any questions.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: He goes on to say, I've consistently gone almost every
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: weekend for three seasons, and the only animals. So this
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: guy has gotten three years and he has gotten a grouse.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: It's become extremely expensive and painful to drive two hours
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: solo to see absolutely nothing because I've been sent on
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: a goose chase.
- 1:07:53Speaker 6: Like he seems like he's getting vindictive.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: Yeah, spent three years. Yeah, I mean how long is
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: he supposed to stay in a good mood about it?
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: I've done as much googling as I can, but even
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: Google can't mentor me.
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: Thanks, please help you forgot.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: So here's the ask, and I can't. This is no
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: guarantee on my part.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: If this winds up being a blood Trails episode, it's
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: not my fault. If someone wants to write in and
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: puts the subject line.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: What are they right into? Contact at something or another the.
- 1:08:37Speaker 8: Meat Eater podcast at the whatever Yeah, type in uh,
- 1:08:41Speaker 8: can you find the address.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: To write Roman a note? Put down a Canadian guy
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Alberta guy, head West guy, Krouse guy, skunk guy, something
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: like that in the subject line. If you're from Alberta,
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: you want to take this guy out under your wing, send.
- 1:09:03Speaker 7: Us a yeah. Or if you're like a cool rancher
- 1:09:05Speaker 7: and you're like I got plenty of deer on.
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: My that would be the best.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: If there's a rancher who like generally doesn't want anybody
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: hunting but wants to let this guy on just so
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: he can stick it to the other guys.
- 1:09:16Speaker 8: Yeah, okay, there are a couple of emails, but just
- 1:09:20Speaker 8: go for meat eater at the meat eater dot.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: You don't like the whole sticking it to him things.
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: You want to keep it positive.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, he's trying to keep it positive, not sticking
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: it to him or anything.
- 1:09:30Speaker 7: Yeah, that would be very nice of anybody in Alberta,
- 1:09:33Speaker 7: you know that could that could help out this fellaw Yeah,
- 1:09:39Speaker 7: I just wonder a couple of things.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: Okay, Well, Alberta is an awful bit, Like what if
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: he's in town? Right, he's got to be an Edmonton
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: or something, right because he doesn't.
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: Say though he doesn't, but but he's like going, if
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: you're an Edmonton does that make sense?
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: Randall?
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: If you're in Edmonton, you go west and all that
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: there's Calgary, Yeah, Calgory.
- 1:10:02Speaker 7: I just want to say this that if you take
- 1:10:04Speaker 7: out his uh interactions with these other hunters that aren't
- 1:10:09Speaker 7: helping him, he leaves his age. I think that's what
- 1:10:12Speaker 7: that's for. That number twenty four. He's a young fella.
- 1:10:16Speaker 7: He's only been at hunting.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: Three I've read that to mean that, oh, you're right,
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: it's not twenty twenty four. He's twenty four years old. Yeah, right,
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: so he's gonna analyze this.
- 1:10:24Speaker 7: I am Okay, he's only twenty four. He's only been
- 1:10:27Speaker 7: at it three years. Uh, Karin, you're a pretty new hunter.
- 1:10:32Speaker 7: You've been at it longer than three years at this point, I.
- 1:10:35Speaker 8: Think this is only my fifth season.
- 1:10:37Speaker 7: Fifth season? Do you think is it really? Is it
- 1:10:41Speaker 7: really out of the question? She hasn't killed him mountain
- 1:10:43Speaker 7: of stuff. I think she's always telling me about struggling
- 1:10:46Speaker 7: like it's it took a while to get into it.
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: Probably how me, dear you got She also works here.
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: She doesn't have our friend's problem.
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: She's got six deer, a kyote, what else, the.
- 1:11:00Speaker 6: Elk, and a shipload of mentors, which this guy doesn't
- 1:11:04Speaker 6: whole mountain stuff.
- 1:11:05Speaker 7: But I think she can see. She could see more
- 1:11:09Speaker 7: than us, because for us it's so far in our past.
- 1:11:12Speaker 7: She could see that it's not unfathomable that you could
- 1:11:15Speaker 7: hunt for three seasons and not kill something. Yeah, for sure,
- 1:11:20Speaker 7: that's just that's my point. So I think to this fella,
- 1:11:24Speaker 7: I'm just saying, like, dude, the ship is not easy.
- 1:11:27Speaker 7: We have mentored people.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: I just feel bad for him though, still you should
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: because I feel like people are being mean to him.
- 1:11:34Speaker 7: Maybe yeah, well again, there's always more to the story.
- 1:11:37Speaker 7: We've mentored people on through Meat Eater that were very
- 1:11:43Speaker 7: capable adults. We showed him how to hunt, We hunted
- 1:11:45Speaker 7: with them, We were successful. They did not continue down
- 1:11:50Speaker 7: the hunting path because it was.
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: Too much pain in the ass.
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: Yes, I also wonder, like his friends don't hunt, his
- 1:11:58Speaker 5: colleagues don't hunt. So then he says, of the hunters
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: I've found and spoken to, like who are you asking?
- 1:12:05Speaker 5: Are you just asking strangers? Like I think you need
- 1:12:08Speaker 5: to build a relationship.
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: And there's a guy standing there in some camo, yeah
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: the coffee.
- 1:12:15Speaker 5: Like you see a deer in the back of someone's truck.
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: You know, where'd you get that? Guy's like to the west.
- 1:12:21Speaker 5: Like like he doesn't have family, friends or colleagues to
- 1:12:25Speaker 5: rely on, So like, who is he talking to? Like
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: go volunteer in some conservations all the biologists for.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: Could these creeping people out? Yeah? Could be creeping people out? Yeah?
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: Like, you're not going to get these suggestions if you
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: don't have the sort of built up social capital with
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: these people.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: Yeah, like if he wrote a longer email with more
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: detail and in it he was like, So what I
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: do is, you see, people are usually home in the
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: middle of the night, So if I know someone hunts,
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: I'll find their home and knock on the door in
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: the middle of the night to catch them home.
- 1:13:01Speaker 5: Or I'll look in their windows to see if they
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: have trophies hanging up.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: And once I determined they're a hunter. Now, but I
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: do think I'll introduce myself.
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: You have to build the relationships before you're gonna get
- 1:13:12Speaker 5: any sort of help.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: You know that's true.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, if a dude came up to me, Yeah,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: if a dude came up to me and I don't
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: know who he was, and he was like, Hey, where'd
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: you get that goose with missing half his bill? Yeah,
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: I'd probably go, uh west to here, Yeah.
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: A long ways west.
- 1:13:34Speaker 7: I think we've given him plenty of advice.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: One of my favorite things on the planet.
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: Now, I'm not recommending this because people are gonna read
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: it and they're gonna get all hot under the hood, But
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: there's a very funny writer named Nelly Bowls and she
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: writes for Free Press. One of my favorite things to
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: do when I wake up on Friday morning is to
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: read Nelly Bowles's Weekend Review. What it's called TGIF. In TGIF,
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: it's a com it's a humor column. It comes out Friday.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: By the time I wake up, it's already out. I
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: get up early, and I lay there and I read
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: in my bed, and I chuckled myself. And it's a
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: it's she starts out, she hacks the right to pieces,
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: and then she hacks the left to pieces.
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: She's she's a comedy writer. She's a humor writer.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: She does a funny take on the news. It's satire,
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: but she's very good about ridiculing everyone in a.
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: Way that it's just funny.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: She had a blip, and I was kind of unaware
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: of this. She had a blip about the Sierra Club,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: like that there's been a bit of an implosion at
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: Sierra Club. Are you aware of this?
- 1:14:38Speaker 5: Yeah, a little bit.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: Some revelations that have cost the Sierra Club a lot
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: of brand equity. In this thing, what I'm gonna get
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: to is this really funny equity Language guide.
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: Which I thought was hilarious that she talks about in there.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: But I didn't know this.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: The Sierra Club got to the point where they had
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: two people on fighting the Trump administration on anwar and
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: one hundred and eight people on DEI initiatives, and it
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: was talking about that that imbalance of core mission to
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: internal politics that have been problematic for Sierra Club.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: But they came out with this guide.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Now I went and found the guide and was thumbing
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: through it, and it gives all these things you shouldn't
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: say and what to say instead, like don't say pull
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: the trigger, you should instead say go for it. Don't
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: use locked and loaded instead try ready to go. Don't
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: say bulletproof, say guaranteed to succeed. Smoking gun should be
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: incontrovertible evidence or the damning facts of the case. Don't
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: use chokehold.
- 1:15:59Speaker 7: That's twice that twice this episode that you've pronounced uh
- 1:16:04Speaker 7: damn that way? Are you doing that in jes damning?
- 1:16:07Speaker 7: That's how you correctly pronounced that word.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: Well, hot damn is d a m n.
- 1:16:14Speaker 7: I know, but you don't hear the N when you
- 1:16:16Speaker 7: say hot damn.
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: But how do you say damning just like that? Damning? No,
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: you don't think it is that true.
- 1:16:25Speaker 7: I thought you were.
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: Damning damning evidence.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: Damn you damn damn listen, dude.
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: I'd never say that in but in this context with
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: the N I don't say damning.
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: Damning. Yeah, is it truly a silent end? You guys
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: are right, I believe Anyways, I just think it's funny.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it's Oh because remember how they said someone said
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: that D Day was a day that will live an infamy. Yeah,
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: don't use that because that makes people feel like it's
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: military Pearl Harbor.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: Yeah. Instead you say history has its eyes on you.
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: This list is okay.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: One last news bit, maybe two. This is the this
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: is actual news. This, This is one of those This
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: is one of those news stories that makes its own gravy.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: And this is Brody should be an expert on this
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: because he's from Colorado.
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: In fact, Brody's one.
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: Of many people that sent this to me. It's a
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: policy thing starting on January first, twenty twenty six, so
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: coming right up here in the state of Colorado, there
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: will be a bifurcation of how bison are legally treated. Now,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: get this. This is a unanimous decision from what the Commission.
- 1:17:59Speaker 6: Yeah, the Commission and the Department of Bags involved too.
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: They have to be, so I might.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: I might start out by saying how it is in
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: other places. Let me give you how it is here
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: in the state of Montana, and I talk with this
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: all damn time. In the state of Montana, bison buffalo
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: are the only native animal that is not legally regarded
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: as a wild animal. They are legally classified as livestock. Okay,
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: Colorado has plenty of ranches, bison ranches, privately owned and
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: fenced bison herds. Starting on the first of the year.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: I'll get into what this aal means in a minute,
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: but starting on the first of the year, there will
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: be privately owned and fence bison herds. Okay, they will
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: continue to be listed as livestock. But starting on that
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: day forward, if a free ranging bison enters the state
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: of Colorado from a neighboring state.
- 1:19:09Speaker 6: Or if they establish themselves eventually, oh well, but if
- 1:19:17Speaker 6: they don't walk in, well I'm saying, like and stay
- 1:19:21Speaker 6: or there's a reintroduction or whatever.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: Sure, Okay, is that true?
- 1:19:28Speaker 6: Yeah, I think go ahead and finish, But I'll say
- 1:19:30Speaker 6: why I think it's true.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: Well, my understanding is the wording is free ranging bison
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: that naturally enter the state from neighboring areas.
- 1:19:39Speaker 6: Yep.
- 1:19:39Speaker 8: So not reintroduction yet.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: Become de facto, become day facto wildlife when they enter
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: the state. I want to talk more about where that's
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: not true because this is all hypothetical in Colorado because
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: it hasn't happened yet. But it's very interesting because it couldn't.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: I'll get to that in a minute. It could happen,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: and this is why that's cool that they did that
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: in Montana. So when when a when a buffalo leaves
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: Yellstone National Park and crosses the invisible to them invisible
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: border and enters the state, we go, what you just
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: stop being wildlife there, buddy, and they can shoot you,
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: round you up, load you up, send you to slaughter
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: whatever the hell they want. They don't have to honor
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: it as wildlife, but they always point to south to people.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: If a grizzly bear, a wolf, a wolverine, a big
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: horn sheep, a mountain go elk, a mule deer, a
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: white tailed deer, a black bear, that could go on
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: all day, any of those things crosses that boundary and
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: walks into Montana, that's some bitches wildlife. If he's a buffalo.
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: He's not he's livestock, which means they they're preventing them
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: from ever getting onto public land as wildlife because they don't.
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: They don't. They don't.
- 1:20:56Speaker 7: They can't legally be wildlife and private land as wildlie.
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: Yeah and private land.
- 1:21:01Speaker 6: And there's management levers that they want to be able
- 1:21:05Speaker 6: to pull.
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: Yeah, they used to shoot them.
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: They used to just flat out like they used to
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: flat out Department of Livestock would sit there and flat
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: out shoot them roll and then public pressure led them
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: to be that. Now they have hunts for the tribes,
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: they have public draw hunts, but still they are not
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: allowed to just come and hang.
- 1:21:24Speaker 5: Yeah, and there's a line in the sand where like
- 1:21:26Speaker 5: if they get past all the hunters, you know, they
- 1:21:29Speaker 5: get killed by whatever Department of Livestock.
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: So Colorado, say what you want about them down in
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: Colorado for bringing wolves in.
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: And not letting them walk in.
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: If I was Colorado, if I was the Emperor of Colorado,
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: I would have not done the I would have not
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: done the reintroduction, and ould have waited till they walked
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: in on their own four feet, which was happening anyways, So.
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: Anyways, out of waited on this. I don't know.
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: No one's talking about a reintroduction effort. Maybe they will,
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: but the groundwork is set now. And why they're getting
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: at this is over in Utah. There's a book Cliff's Herd.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: Utah has that like the Henry Mountains, Utah has a
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: couple of free ranging wild herds of buffalo and these
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: book cliff ones are a genetic had said, even get
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: into that they're genetically peer, which that whole conversation, in
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: my mind is a lot of bs, meaning people that
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: don't like the animals will delegitimize certain herds of them
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: by saying that they're like not genetically peer.
- 1:22:33Speaker 6: They have cattled some remnin.
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: Yeah, like like some if you take a blood sample
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: from for instance, if you go to the north rim
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: of the Grand Canyon in Arizona on Grand Canyon National
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: Park where there's buffalo that run wild, and the park
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: service down there doesn't like them. Generally speaking, they tolerate
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: them kind of. They would say, oh, the problem is
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: they're not genetically peer. But if you took one hundred
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: Americans and said and showed them one of those animals
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: and said, hey, what is that?
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: Listen?
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: One hundred but go, that's a bison. They just are,
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: but deep.
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: In their history is like a little bit of cattle introgression,
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: and so people use that cattle introgression bs to like
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: delegitimize certain populations. Yeah, well it's not really a bison,
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: so it's like, let's get rid of them.
- 1:23:34Speaker 6: So with this situation, the books Cliffs ones occasionally.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: Do walk across into Colorado, so they're set in the
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: groundwork that as those book Cliffs ones drift into Colorado,
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: it's up to fishing. It's up to Colorado Fishing parks
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: to determine what happens to it. Parks and wildlife parks
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: and wildlife can go no, cool, they're cool, they're cool.
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: Don't mess them as wildlife. If you want to hunt them,
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: you're gonna have to draw tag, right, you can't just
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: shoot them as arrant livestock.
- 1:24:04Speaker 6: And it would allow them to manage CPW to manage
- 1:24:08Speaker 6: them if they did, like a herd established himself eventually.
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: Yeah, it is very much a step in the right direction.
- 1:24:14Speaker 5: Yeah, in my mind.
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: And and just to show you not even biases, I'm
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: like open about this all the time. I am of
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: the opinion, like categorically of the opinion that we could be.
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: We could have a lot more buffalo bison.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: I don't care what you want to call them. We
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: could have a lot more buffalo on the landscape for
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: people to see, for people to hunt. It's like, it's
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: just time to get this going, and this is a
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: step in the right direction. I would love to see this.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: This I would love to see in my own state.
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: I would love to see them Montana. The same attitude.
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: If it walks in, if it's a wild an animal
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: and it walks in on its own four feet, it's
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: a wild animal.
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: Cut the tape, Phil, We're not moving.
- 1:25:11Speaker 6: On another one.
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: I want to get into this Michigan thing, but it's
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: like a long time thing to talk about.
- 1:25:18Speaker 5: Let's go. We gotta bite him at the bottom.
- 1:25:22Speaker 7: Though, yeap sweepstakes, which I didn't know about. I might
- 1:25:27Speaker 7: even apply for this by five tickets.
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: Oh you know what I wanted to talk about.
- 1:25:32Speaker 7: He's sweet go to Steve's but couldn't eat dinner bench.
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: At the office. We should have put this up front.
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: I yes, yes, you know what, Phil, Let's put it
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: up front.
- 1:25:48Speaker 7: If you win, you're not allowed to go to Steve's
- 1:25:51Speaker 7: house and say that to him.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: From now until December twenty ninth for running to sweep Steaks.
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: This should have really been up top.
- 1:26:00Speaker 3: You know what I'm gonna you're you're gonna say this thing.
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: I'm going to copy and paste it right up front
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: and then reason why.
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: Okay, And then when you're sitting here listening out holder.
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: People will get to the end and hear you say, Hey, Phil,
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: and you've already.
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: Heard me say this.
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: Duh, I already said it. We're running to sweep steaks
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: from now until December twenty ninth.
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: This is a hell of a sweep Steaks deal. What
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: you get, you get a trip to Bozeman.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: So we cover round trip airfare for for you and

- 1:26:56Speaker 1: serve it to you personally. We will give you a

- 1:27:58Speaker 1: you get an eagle on your driver's license.
- 1:28:01Speaker 7: So now the new driver's license will qualify for the

- 1:28:09Speaker 8: Do you mean a naturalized citizen?
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: I believe American.
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: I believe they just passed the state law that if

- 1:28:16Speaker 2: You get an eagle too.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: Oh I see, No, we already have real ID, They
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: just kept postponing because of the pandemic. I've been real

- 1:28:27Speaker 2: On it, which I'm gonna.
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: Keep out of my wallet to show people proudly just
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: y'ah come from America. Okay, I'm getting to the rules.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: Why did someone scratch the rules out?
- 1:28:43Speaker 7: Fine?
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: Go for the rules.
- 1:28:44Speaker 7: I scratched them.
- 1:28:45Speaker 8: I thought it would be like a little too.
- 1:28:48Speaker 7: Yeah, you know those aren't the rules. You already went
- 1:28:51Speaker 7: over all that good.
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: Scratch.
- 1:28:55Speaker 7: How do you enter, Steve? How?
- 1:28:56Speaker 5: How is one eligible for such a giveaway?
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: Did I say round trip? Yeah, airfare, lodging, rental car,
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: dinner cooked here by me, one thousand dollars gift card
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: one k Alex Zimmer I'm volunteering him, will give you
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: private access to the store.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: The worst actor in the company.
- 1:29:20Speaker 6: That means, you know he'll be telling you the truth.
- 1:29:22Speaker 5: But one of the finest dogs that is this company has.
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: Probably the I haven't told him. This probably the worst
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: actor we've ever hired.
- 1:29:33Speaker 6: He won't try and sell you something you don't need.
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: No, you can trust this guy because me and Randall
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: tried to get him to act.
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: Yeah, he's straight as an arrow.
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: There's no concerns. Yeah, if he tells you something, it's
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: the truth. You should try to give him couple.
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: Of pointers film. I try to give him some tips.
- 1:29:53Speaker 7: I'll try.
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: You know, for how often you talked to me about
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: me doing plays. I've never once been asked to act
- 1:29:57Speaker 3: in any sort of skit or any sort of commercial
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: done at this company.
- 1:30:00Speaker 7: Are you kidding me?
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: You've done acting?
- 1:30:04Speaker 7: I have not. I did.
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: I did the Christmas videos, but that was a shocking. Phil,
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: I've cast you in two plays on Radio Live.
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: Give me two roles.
- 1:30:15Speaker 7: I greatly appreciate it.
- 1:30:18Speaker 8: Instagram social skips, Phil.
- 1:30:20Speaker 3: I'm working on them from Russ three times now.
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: Yeah, we're filming one tomorrow. We didn't cast filling it.
- 1:30:26Speaker 7: We might be filming to tomorrow. I'll get make sure
- 1:30:30Speaker 7: it fills in. On the second one.
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: I got cast. Randall's cast, and Brandon got cast. She's
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: missus Claus.
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: So I got it.
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: Someone's thinking, well, they're not just gonna call me up
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: and give it to me, and you're right.
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: You gotta go online. This is grossly oversimplified. Unless simple,
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: that's what I got. Listen, go to first Light.
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: I'm not gonna tell you the rules because I think
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: there's a way to enter, Like there's a way to
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: enter free, and there's a way to boost your entries, right, but.
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: We have to tell them how to enter.
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: Go to first light dot com so you'll see something
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: about sweepstakes. I believe.
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: I believe there's a way to enter free, which you
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: have to do in sweepstakes law. And then for every
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: hundred bucks you spend at first Light, you get five entries.
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: So does a rub. There's a rub you can. Like
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: everything in life, the affluent will be favored.
- 1:31:45Speaker 7: I can't help it.
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: I can't help it. They tend to spend more money.
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm not making it up, don't you agree?
- 1:31:55Speaker 7: Yeah, ending on a hard truth. Well, I'm sorry you
- 1:32:01Speaker 7: had to hear that twice.
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: I guess maybe you clean it up, make it sound
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: more optimistic on the first one.
- 1:32:07Speaker 7: Yeah, sure, yea.
- 1:32:09Speaker 5: A hundred bucks gets you five entries, that's pretty good.
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: Yeah, anybody can afford that.
- 1:32:14Speaker 5: Twenty bucks a ticket, plus you're spending that money on
- 1:32:16Speaker 5: something you wanted to buy anyway.
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Rand wanted to come to Baman he'd just fly
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: himself out here.
- 1:32:22Speaker 6: Random blows ten times out every year at the Sportsman's
- 1:32:26Speaker 6: Expo looking for tags.
- 1:32:28Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, this might be one of the higher odds
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: entries you'll get in this tag season, the strong season.
- 1:32:33Speaker 7: We have lots of quarter zips for probably right at
- 1:32:36Speaker 7: one hundred bucks, a little bit under one hundred bucks,
- 1:32:38Speaker 7: maybe a little bit over one hundred bucks. Quarter zips
- 1:32:41Speaker 7: are the thing this holiday season for men. So if
- 1:32:44Speaker 7: you're looking for quarter zips, go to First Light.
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: My kids told me the opposite. They've hit peak quarter zip.
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: They told me, because people they think it's people trying
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: to look They think it's people trying to look studious.
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: That's their take on it. I can see that they're thinking.
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: Of like a sweater, Yeah, like a formal sweater, not
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: like a not like Marino bass layer quarter zip.
- 1:33:14Speaker 7: No, but I could see a kiln quarter zip being
- 1:33:19Speaker 7: dressed down for a drink at the bar, or being
- 1:33:21Speaker 7: dressed up for a job interview.
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: Sure, okay, so that's what you gotta do.
- 1:33:26Speaker 7: A little collar underneath that thing like.
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: Big old dinner, big old dinner, shop and spree with
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: Alex the Alex the actor as what we call him.
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: Uh, first light dot com. Check it out while you're
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: there to pick up a f up old truck's calendar.
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: We're getting out of the calendar business. This is your
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: last chance ever to get a calendar. I swear I
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: will never make another calendar.
- 1:33:50Speaker 7: Will you let me want if I could.
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: I'm walking away from calendars. Why it's too fickle of
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: a business. Who'd have thought the print calendar would fade out?
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: We tried to run that way while we could. People
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: like it or not are moving away from PreK.
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: The only takeaway I got from last year's calendar was
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: that we didn't make enough of them. Is that the expo.
- 1:34:19Speaker 5: I probably people come up to me the Hunt Expo
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: wondering if we had extra calendars there, and I took
- 1:34:27Speaker 5: I took him off the walls of people around the
- 1:34:29Speaker 5: office and sent them to these people because I.
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: Think fed up old Shiitters was like as good as
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: you could do, as.
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: Good as you could do.
- 1:34:40Speaker 5: It's like Rocky four.
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: It was like.
- 1:34:44Speaker 7: Clay's mom.
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: Clay's mom would have two reasons to wash his mouth out.
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: It was so if you said the name.
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: Of that calendar, we just need to get more around
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: old trucks. I wanted to do old Fisherman. F up
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: old Fisherman. I'm done. I'm out of the business.
- 1:34:59Speaker 6: I was looking forward to be in that calendar.
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: Out of the business.
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: You mark my words if you want a calendar. And
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: this is not a sales ploy, but I'll point out
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: if you were to want one of our calendars now
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: we're never sucker. Yeah, I'm not saying it because of salesmanship.
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: Done done done, don't the business. It's a fickle business.
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: People are moving away. Me and Brody's wagon wheel went
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: business went tits up too.
- 1:35:23Speaker 6: Yep, land speculation business that didn't work out.
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: Check we had a little check business, print checks, our
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: mailbox business is slowing down.
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: Oil lamps, we're.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: Sitting on gallons of whale oil. Yeah, and now the
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: print calendar thing's slowing down. But we're pretty optimistic about
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: our VHS.
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:35:52Speaker 2: We're investing heavily in VHS technology.
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: Coal furnaces.
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: Oh, you know the farm that had the field that
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: had the goose missing its bill? I noticed he heats
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: a coal, big old bucket of coal. He had a
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: big metal tub next to his stove full of coal.
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: I feel like he must have his own coal scene.
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: I won't be surprised these guy's own coal scene. That
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: was cool to see.
- 1:36:19Speaker 7: Yeah, I wouldn't know where you.
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: Said that guy was. Yeah, we drove off.
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: Do you know what that guy was heating with? And
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: they're so young they saw they didn't know what they
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: were looking at. I said that big tub, like with
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: the rocks.
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: I was like, that's that dude's coal. Man, dude's with coal.
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: That's cool right right in the living room, big bucket.
- 1:36:41Speaker 6: I just wondered if that would work in one of
- 1:36:42Speaker 6: those titanium um.
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: Seek stoves camp stove.
- 1:36:46Speaker 5: Yeah, a couple of those in there.
- 1:36:49Speaker 7: Why not?
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: All right, I peel, you can probably turn it off
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: anytime now, man, this is all
- 1:36:59Speaker 5: For own amusement.
