- 0:00Speaker 1: Okay.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hello, Oh yeah, we're excited. Global superstar Bby rexar joining
- 0:13Speaker 2: us on Zoom.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Hello, Hello, gorgeous lady. How are you? What's happening in
- 0:17Speaker 3: bb Rex's world right now? I always love to ask
- 0:21Speaker 3: this some big stars like you, like you're doing something
- 0:23Speaker 3: normal if you just had a protein shake, or are
- 0:25Speaker 3: you're going to do something celebrity?
- 0:26Speaker 1: Is I just finished a twelve hour day of promo?
- 0:36Speaker 2: Is that fun for you? Or is it like pulling teeth?
- 0:40Speaker 1: No, it's fun for me, except that, like I do
- 0:42Speaker 1: have my moments where I'm like, oh, I need a second,
- 0:45Speaker 1: Like I need a second to be on my phone
- 0:46Speaker 1: and like doom scroll or whatever it may be.
- 0:49Speaker 2: You know, hey, baby babe, you've got, like you a
- 0:53Speaker 2: very confident energy. Is there something surprising people wouldn't know
- 0:58Speaker 2: about you? Are you shy person? Is there?
- 1:02Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:02Speaker 2: Do you like to be left alone? Or do you
- 1:04Speaker 2: love being around people?
- 1:05Speaker 1: I like, I mean, I don't know, I like all
- 1:06Speaker 1: of those things. Is that crazy? Oh? No, it depends
- 1:11Speaker 1: being around people and until.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I don't, You're okay?
- 1:13Speaker 3: Remember Amy Schumer famously came out and said she's an
- 1:16Speaker 3: introverted extrovert and I relate to that.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Oh yeah, oh, what do you mean? Yeah, of course
- 1:22Speaker 1: I would like when I get home, I want to
- 1:23Speaker 1: just put on my favorite TV show, cuddle my dog,
- 1:26Speaker 1: order some food, and I don't want to talk to nobody. Right,
- 1:29Speaker 1: phone's on D and D.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Hey, Mikey, I want to ask bb this because I listen.
- 1:35Speaker 3: I'm a lot older than you, Bby, obviously, I mean,
- 1:37Speaker 3: I'm fifty two, you're thirty six. You're absolutely gorgeous. You
- 1:40Speaker 3: look beautiful today, by the way, my God, and the
- 1:42Speaker 3: camera's coming from underneath too, and you still look hot.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I hate you so much, but you've sampled Faithless, right,
- 1:49Speaker 3: which is just oh cult Like.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I can't absol this. Yeah, zaqurillin, But I love it.
- 1:56Speaker 3: It's such a beautiful nod to the nineties, nineteen ninety five,
- 1:59Speaker 3: to be exactly. You were six years old.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So did someone.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Bring this song to you or when you got older
- 2:05Speaker 3: did you love it?
- 2:06Speaker 1: Well?
- 2:06Speaker 3: How did you even know about Fightless?
- 2:09Speaker 1: My uncle was like trying to be when I was
- 2:12Speaker 1: we were in Brooklyn. When I was growing up in
- 2:14Speaker 1: Brooklyn with my grandparents, my uncle was trying being the
- 2:19Speaker 1: keyword to be a DJ and my grandfather wou. He
- 2:24Speaker 1: would play Insomnia all the time you play, you know,
- 2:28Speaker 1: he would have his vinyls and I would only remember
- 2:31Speaker 1: my grandfather would come in yelling and screaming because the
- 2:34Speaker 1: music was so loud and the neighbors were getting upset.
- 2:37Speaker 1: You to shut off the you know, shut off the music.
- 2:40Speaker 1: So I heard it growing up and then I don't know,
- 2:44Speaker 1: I just listened to it throughout my life. And when
- 2:46Speaker 1: we did New Religion, I wasn't like, oh, let's just
- 2:49Speaker 1: sample this song, because after I'm good, I was like, Okay,
- 2:52Speaker 1: I'm done with the sampling.
- 2:57Speaker 3: I mean that was pretty massive. People were loving that one.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, but for me, I like being a
- 3:02Speaker 1: songwriter first, I'm kind of always like, very skeptical. But
- 3:06Speaker 1: you know, when we wrote the song, I was like,
- 3:07Speaker 1: you guys like this is probably not gonna get cleared.
- 3:10Speaker 1: You know, it's like this has never been cleared in
- 3:13Speaker 1: how many years now, thirty something thirty years, right, It's
- 3:15Speaker 1: been about thirty years, right.
- 3:16Speaker 3: So when you say not cleared, this is really interesting.
- 3:20Speaker 2: No.
- 3:20Speaker 3: I no, I love this because I think listeners would
- 3:22Speaker 3: probably assume that someone like you bib rexa who's worked
- 3:25Speaker 3: with the biggest names, in the Beast, I mean the
- 3:26Speaker 3: collapse of eminem Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas, all of them.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I think the average everyday person listening would go, how
- 3:34Speaker 3: does baby Rexa have to get clearance for something like that?
- 3:36Speaker 3: But surely a song that's that old your record company
- 3:39Speaker 3: would be able to do that. But there is actually
- 3:41Speaker 3: a struggle to do that, is there?
- 3:42Speaker 1: Yeah, Because in the end of the day, when you
- 3:43Speaker 1: have such an iconic dance song and it's so timeless
- 3:46Speaker 1: and one of the best dance songs of all time,
- 3:50Speaker 1: you know, it comes down to the artist at the
- 3:52Speaker 1: end of the day. They want, they have to want
- 3:54Speaker 1: to be able to allow you to use the record
- 3:57Speaker 1: because that's their baby, that's their child, that's what they
- 4:01Speaker 1: And I was not expected. I was not expecting them
- 4:03Speaker 1: to give me the okay to use it, because you
- 4:05Speaker 1: can't just put a song out without getting the clearance
- 4:07Speaker 1: from the original creators of the record. And when it
- 4:11Speaker 1: got cleared, I was shocked. And and you know, just
- 4:13Speaker 1: to say, I had done an interview recently and the
- 4:17Speaker 1: interviewers said to me, so I heard this song is
- 4:20Speaker 1: actually your song New Religion is actually from an older
- 4:23Speaker 1: song back in the day. Is that true?
- 4:26Speaker 3: They didn't know, they didn't know, they didn't know in song?
- 4:30Speaker 1: Oh wow, it's to me, it's amazing to see that
- 4:33Speaker 1: with the younger generation. They they might have heard it
- 4:37Speaker 1: from their parents, maybe not, but it's it's incredible, incredible
- 4:41Speaker 1: to bring this newer, younger generation to this song.
- 4:44Speaker 2: You got a new album, Dirty Blonde, that's coming out
- 4:47Speaker 2: in June twelfth, And as you were saying, you've written
- 4:49Speaker 2: a lot of songs, so you know you've written for
- 4:51Speaker 2: artists like Selena Gomere's Eminem Marianna. How do you know
- 4:55Speaker 2: when to give a track away or to keep it
- 4:59Speaker 2: for you? Baby? Who questions?
- 5:01Speaker 1: That's a good question. It depends. You know, a lot
- 5:04Speaker 1: of times it's not just about writing a great song.
- 5:07Speaker 1: It's about if you're going to have the system of
- 5:09Speaker 1: people behind you, like wanting that believe in you and
- 5:12Speaker 1: want you to put it out. And there's been many situations,
- 5:15Speaker 1: you know, for example, me myself and I that I
- 5:17Speaker 1: did with Gezy, I had written it for myself and
- 5:20Speaker 1: I remember playing it for the people around me and
- 5:22Speaker 1: not one person believed in the record. So then he
- 5:25Speaker 1: was like, Okay, wow, I love this, let's do it
- 5:27Speaker 1: together and then played it for his team and then
- 5:29Speaker 1: his team was like, Okay, let's put it out. So
- 5:32Speaker 1: it's not just about putting a great song, like you
- 5:35Speaker 1: need a team of people behind you to like uplift
- 5:37Speaker 1: you and believe in the record.
- 5:38Speaker 2: So talking of touring, you have troubled the world. What
- 5:41Speaker 2: do you like on a plane? Are you trackies? Are
- 5:45Speaker 2: you a bad fly?
- 5:46Speaker 1: Off?
- 5:47Speaker 2: She roll? Do you rolle? Talk it off? Yeah? Yeah?
- 5:50Speaker 1: What are you like?
- 5:51Speaker 2: Ony on the plane?
- 5:54Speaker 1: I am yeah, I'm wearing like joggers. Is that what
- 6:00Speaker 1: you call them? Joggers?
- 6:01Speaker 2: We call it? We call them sneak is what do
- 6:04Speaker 2: you call them sneakers?
- 6:05Speaker 1: Track suits?
- 6:06Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 6:06Speaker 2: Track suits?
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah, trackies, trackies. That's cute. I just I just recently
- 6:13Speaker 1: learned Brecky when my avateur manager who's from Australia, He's like,
- 6:16Speaker 1: let's get some break I was.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Like, oh, really breakfast?
- 6:20Speaker 3: And I said that in Brooklyn. Then I said Brecky.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Oh. They were like, yeah, hey, yo, let's get a bagel.
- 6:25Speaker 1: You want to go get a bake? You want to
- 6:27Speaker 1: get a baked bag and cheese, egg and cheese on
- 6:29Speaker 1: a roll. No, But on the plane, I'm very like yeah, sneakers,
- 6:35Speaker 1: track suit and on the on my phone if they
- 6:38Speaker 1: don't have Wi Fi, like yeah, especially if it's like
- 6:41Speaker 1: a fifteen sixteen hour flight, I'm like, what do I do?
- 6:44Speaker 1: I just watch all the movies that are available. I watch,
- 6:47Speaker 1: like the whole catalog.
- 6:48Speaker 2: All right, more with Baby Rexa coming up. You're listening
- 6:51Speaker 2: to Case Breakfast, Mike Brooklyn, Bianca Die and Baby Rexay Okay, yeah,
- 7:05Speaker 2: Baby rex Ie is joining us on Zoom this morning. Now,
- 7:08Speaker 2: you've been to Austratia many times. What's one thing you
- 7:11Speaker 2: don't quite get or don't quite luck about Astradia? Baby,
- 7:15Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I like a lot of Let me tell you the
- 7:17Speaker 1: things I like, and then I'll tell you the things
- 7:19Speaker 1: I don't understand and I love. Okay, I love the coffee.
- 7:23Speaker 1: The coffee is amazing.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I never had a Tim Tam until I came to
- 7:29Speaker 1: Australia in my life, and I had made a line
- 7:33Speaker 1: that I loved Tim Tams. And when I showed up
- 7:35Speaker 1: to my hotel room after a day of promo, my
- 7:39Speaker 1: room was covered in Tim TAM's every flavor and chocolate
- 7:43Speaker 1: dark chalk, every flavor I've ever like. My whole bluggage
- 7:46Speaker 1: was filled with Tim Tams. I was like, I hope
- 7:48Speaker 1: I don't get stuck getting into the US. And they're like,
- 7:50Speaker 1: why is she carrying's smuggling like she's smuggling Tim Tams
- 7:55Speaker 1: into the state. The one thing I'm not I'm confused about,
- 7:58Speaker 1: which my tour manager made me do on last time
- 8:01Speaker 1: I did tour in Australia, was a shoe.
- 8:04Speaker 3: I don't Oh, yeah, I don't know that.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 8:09Speaker 1: And I did the whole show in my shoes and
- 8:13Speaker 1: he came to me on stage and made me take
- 8:15Speaker 1: my shoe off, which was sweaty after a perhaps show,
- 8:19Speaker 1: and poured a drink into my shoe and made me
- 8:21Speaker 1: drink it in front of all of the fans. And
- 8:24Speaker 1: he said it was an Australia you had to do
- 8:26Speaker 1: it because I was in Australia and I didn't get that.
- 8:28Speaker 1: And I will say, you know, I think the liquor
- 8:31Speaker 1: burns the you know, like the burnio.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Right, yeah, yeah, I think we need to stop people
- 8:38Speaker 2: doing them. I feel like someone did it in two
- 8:40Speaker 2: thousand and fourteen and everyone thinks everyone in Australia does not.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I I'm sure I've done one when I was a teenager,
- 8:45Speaker 2: But honestly, can we stop making like very respected artists
- 8:49Speaker 2: like Baby Rexie drink out of a shoe? We don't
- 8:52Speaker 2: do that every day? It stop.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Hold on. My tour manager is Australian and he told
- 8:59Speaker 1: me that it was the rate of passage.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I reckon, I reckon. He's having you on a
- 9:04Speaker 2: lot of it happens a lot. A lot of artists
- 9:06Speaker 2: are doing it. But do you know what I mean?
- 9:08Speaker 2: Can we don't go to the pub and do as shoey?
- 9:10Speaker 2: I love? I need to stop doing it.
- 9:12Speaker 3: It shocked Bobe rex Now She's like, I just let
- 9:14Speaker 3: everyone else Astralian get a Shoeye.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I haven't a perfectly good shoe. It was beautiful.
- 9:21Speaker 3: I know. We've got to let you go. We could
- 9:23Speaker 3: talk all day, just quickly. Look, I want I wanted
- 9:26Speaker 3: to say this bebe because I love that you use
- 9:28Speaker 3: your platform to kind of call out, you know, the
- 9:30Speaker 3: whole unrealistic Hollywood beauty standard stuff. I'm I'm someone that
- 9:34Speaker 3: sort of tries to do that as well. My very
- 9:36Speaker 3: exciting following, but I go from besides ten to sixteen
- 9:40Speaker 3: in one year, just with you know, medication for HRT
- 9:43Speaker 3: and whatever, And I try and not filter my photos,
- 9:46Speaker 3: And I love that you do that because it's kind
- 9:50Speaker 3: of hard in your beer's right, because you've got to
- 9:52Speaker 3: maintain this certain look. But also you want your beautiful
- 9:55Speaker 3: fans to see raw, bebe and be real and all
- 10:00Speaker 3: because they connect with you. Then I connect with you.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Of course, I you know, first of all, going to
- 10:05Speaker 1: size ten to size sixteen, that's also being a woman.
- 10:09Speaker 1: That's you know, that's for men too, that's being human. Yeah,
- 10:12Speaker 1: you know, everybody's going through something that nobody knows about.
- 10:14Speaker 1: That's why I think it's so important, you know, not
- 10:16Speaker 1: to speak on people's bodies. But of course we can
- 10:18Speaker 1: all have our opinions. But yeah, I would say, you know,
- 10:23Speaker 1: we have to just be a little bit kinder to
- 10:24Speaker 1: each other, a little bit nicer. But I will say
- 10:27Speaker 1: when I wake up sometimes and I'm just I read
- 10:29Speaker 1: something I you know, and I'm feeling a little spicy
- 10:33Speaker 1: that day, I might you know, clap back you.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Know on hop.
- 10:39Speaker 1: That's what's hop. I love you know what I'm learning,
- 10:42Speaker 1: you know, just you know, we have our moments, like
- 10:45Speaker 1: you know, like who cares if you're size twelve, sixteen, eighteen,
- 10:48Speaker 1: twenty like your size flours. It's like we're human, Like,
- 10:52Speaker 1: what are we supposed to stay perfect all the time?
- 10:53Speaker 1: Like it's all ups and out. It's life. You know,
- 10:57Speaker 1: we all want to be perfect like me, but it's
- 10:59Speaker 1: impossib you know, I'm just kidding.
- 11:02Speaker 2: You are.
- 11:04Speaker 3: And I think it's wonderful that you're authentic. I think
- 11:06Speaker 3: it's it's fantastic and I think that's why everybody loves
- 11:08Speaker 3: you so much.
- 11:09Speaker 2: With the whole body image thing. What about when you're
- 11:11Speaker 2: like clapping back on You're still using Twitter? We call
- 11:14Speaker 2: it X now, don't we. Have you ever gone online
- 11:17Speaker 2: and written something or out of the comment and you've
- 11:19Speaker 2: later regretted it or you're like, yeah, no, I put
- 11:22Speaker 2: that out there and it's now there.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I mean I kind of yeah. I mean I don't know.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I just do what I feel. I think it's when
- 11:28Speaker 1: my mom calls me and she's like, baby, you shouldn't
- 11:33Speaker 1: have done that. That's not like very pops are like
- 11:36Speaker 1: you have to be a little bit more like reserved.
- 11:39Speaker 1: And I'm like, really, Mom, I'm like, you should have
- 11:41Speaker 1: raised me the way that you raised me. Like I'm
- 11:43Speaker 1: I'm just like like, I don't know what you want
- 11:45Speaker 1: me to say, Like She's like, just be more lady like,
- 11:48Speaker 1: and I'm like, you want me to just so Like
- 11:49Speaker 1: it depends on the day, It depends on the day. Mike,
- 11:52Speaker 1: He like, you know sometimes I said, you want a
- 11:54Speaker 1: good clapback. You know, it's like you want to go
- 11:57Speaker 1: back clap back on the on the the will we
- 11:59Speaker 1: call keyboard warriors, Yes, the truth?
- 12:02Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, yeah.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I mean to me, it's like, I see, I've seen
- 12:05Speaker 1: everything written about me. I've seen people say the craziest
- 12:08Speaker 1: things about me. You build such a like strong armor
- 12:11Speaker 1: and when you start learning yourself and I love about
- 12:14Speaker 1: like my whole new project, dirty Blonde, it's just so
- 12:17Speaker 1: like unapologetic and I'm not worried. I'm just trying to
- 12:19Speaker 1: make the best art. I'm trying to be the truest
- 12:21Speaker 1: form of myself. Whatever people want to say, I say,
- 12:26Speaker 1: at least they're talking about me.
- 12:27Speaker 2: It's true.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Donald today I said, any publicity's good publicity.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Oh and we know Bi anchor with you, we know
- 12:34Speaker 2: that's true. Baby. Her new album, Dirty Blonde, is going
- 12:38Speaker 2: to be out the twelfth of June, and we are
- 12:40Speaker 2: loving new religion right now. In case Baby Rex are
- 12:43Speaker 2: great to have you on. Thank you, thank.
- 12:45Speaker 1: You guys so much. I love you. I can't wait
- 12:47Speaker 1: to see you in person. I want to make sure
- 12:49Speaker 1: that you have a nice flat white ready for me
- 12:51Speaker 1: when I come to the studio and a coplatant.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Absolutely we will.
- 12:55Speaker 2: And no more SHOEI is when you come here next time. Baby.
- 12:58Speaker 2: All right, there we go, Baby rex A joining us
- 13:00Speaker 2: and kids crackles
