- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Coming up on NHL and Scripted, we give flowers to
- 0:24Speaker 1: PK Sue Band considering the Habs them.
- 0:26Speaker 2: We have the Habs find their biggest fan.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Plus what's gonna happen with Matt bab Metzkoff and the
- 0:31Speaker 1: Flyers after this summer. Chris Pronger is our special guest,
- 0:34Speaker 1: my friend and colleague from our time on Amazon Prime
- 0:36Speaker 1: when Hockey Prongs is proning his new book called Earned
- 0:39Speaker 1: and unfortunately Nate Thompson not with us today on assignment,
- 0:43Speaker 1: so it is truly Verkin demurrors back once again. Tow
- 0:45Speaker 1: will be for sure to supplant whatever Nate's going to say. Anyways,
- 0:48Speaker 1: So Jenny, good to see as always, Buddy. Let's kick
- 0:51Speaker 1: things off of the fact that rackets busted in some ways.
- 0:53Speaker 2: I mean, I think this has.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Been a in some ways are predictable playoffs, and that
- 0:57Speaker 1: the Avalanche looked great, Carolina's looked really good, but at
- 1:00Speaker 1: times there's been some surprises along the way. What I
- 1:02Speaker 1: want to start with though, is Goldie switches. We're barely
- 1:06Speaker 1: into the second round of the playoffs already seeing some
- 1:08Speaker 1: movement in the crease.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Colorado for a.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Team that is the primitive favorite, pulling Scott Wedgwood in
- 1:13Speaker 1: a five to one Game three loss Saturday, Minnesota after
- 1:16Speaker 1: giving him three goals on nine shots. Bekenzie Blackwood starts
- 1:19Speaker 1: Game four stopping nineteen twenty one in a big Colorado wins.
- 1:22Speaker 1: It wasn't like, oh, the guy got the hook for
- 1:23Speaker 1: a game and he's got no Blackwoods in right meantime,
- 1:27Speaker 1: Buffalo already pulled Uka Pecaluca and for Alex Line in
- 1:30Speaker 1: the first run against Boston. Now Line gives up eleven
- 1:33Speaker 1: goals first two games against Montreal, but still overall same
- 1:36Speaker 1: percents of well over nine hundred, whereas Uka was eight.
- 1:38Speaker 2: To seventy one, and he puts him in. Yes, heck
- 1:42Speaker 2: hooked on.
- 1:45Speaker 1: So Uka comes in twenty eight staves in their Game
- 1:48Speaker 1: four win. I know that you can't have one goalie
- 1:51Speaker 1: go the entire way, and this is a different NHL
- 1:53Speaker 1: in which two guys.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Always split the entire regular season.
- 1:56Speaker 1: But your level of reaction to the fact two teams
- 1:58Speaker 1: who are trying to make real pushes are not hesitating
- 2:00Speaker 1: in the fact they can pull their quote unquote number
- 2:02Speaker 1: one guy.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I but both those goalies.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Like at times this year, it has truly been in
- 2:09Speaker 4: Buffalo and Colorado, it's been a one A, one B situation.
- 2:13Speaker 4: I don't think it's something new, right, but like I
- 2:16Speaker 4: kind of listen, Jared Bednar is one of the most
- 2:19Speaker 4: intelligent coaches in the NHL. If you talk to anybody
- 2:23Speaker 4: that's within inner circles, he knows, he knows his shit
- 2:26Speaker 4: front back. He knows exactly what buttons to push, so stoic,
- 2:30Speaker 4: and it almost feels like I think everybody's surprised in
- 2:34Speaker 4: Colorado that they didn't need to go to Blackwood until
- 2:39Speaker 4: now because they've been because Wedgwood's been so dominant, and
- 2:42Speaker 4: I just think it was one of those situations. It's
- 2:44Speaker 4: a little different than Buffalo because I think Alex Lyon
- 2:49Speaker 4: was kind of that game and in the Sabers weren't
- 2:52Speaker 4: playing great. They hadn't played great, they haven't played great
- 2:55Speaker 4: in this series against Montreal. I think Montreal's led play
- 2:59Speaker 4: all of this series and has been the better team,
- 3:02Speaker 4: you know, So I for it to be two to
- 3:04Speaker 4: two in the series I think is is I found Buffalo.
- 3:09Speaker 4: I could not be more ecstatic that it's too too
- 3:11Speaker 4: because it could easily be three to one in this series,
- 3:14Speaker 4: and Lion's been good. But I think, you know, Lyon,
- 3:17Speaker 4: he's what.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Am I saying?
- 3:19Speaker 1: Lion Lion? Yeah, I feel like I'm fucking it up
- 3:22Speaker 1: in my own head. When you think of lying, you
- 3:24Speaker 1: think of l I O n Y Yeah, yeah, Lion.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Lieon looks Lyon no like Lion, just I think the
- 3:35Speaker 4: game he's still giving up some and defensively they've been bad.
- 3:38Speaker 4: And I think this was, you know, this was more
- 3:41Speaker 4: Lindy going to upl thinking. You know, he was the
- 3:46Speaker 4: starter for a lot of the year. Lion stole the net.
- 3:48Speaker 4: They also Colton Nell's come in, so for him, I
- 3:52Speaker 4: feel like he was more graspan at Straws, like I
- 3:54Speaker 4: got to get the team going Colorado. I feel like it's, hey,
- 3:56Speaker 4: we got to get in Blackwood at some point in
- 3:58Speaker 4: these playoffs because it's just been the way that it's gone.
- 4:02Speaker 4: And I think Colorado has been so dominant that they
- 4:04Speaker 4: haven't needed to and Wedgewood's been incredible and that was
- 4:07Speaker 4: the first kind of chink in the armor and they,
- 4:09Speaker 4: you know, I think they're so used to going back
- 4:12Speaker 4: and forth all season long, and I know Wedgwood had
- 4:15Speaker 4: the net for long periods of time. But I think
- 4:17Speaker 4: it's like Beddner being like, let's just give him a rest.
- 4:19Speaker 4: He's gonna be back in at some point in these playoffs.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Child, you see similar leadership styles. Jared Bednar, Bob Bender.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Sorry, I mean I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go with
- 4:33Speaker 3: ben Nar in the hair debate.
- 4:34Speaker 5: That's for sure offense to Bob Bender, but that our
- 4:38Speaker 5: salad is is primo stuff, you know. I think you know,
- 4:43Speaker 5: both both great leaders, both both heavy handed when they
- 4:46Speaker 5: need to be.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Although I'm just curious, JD.
- 4:47Speaker 5: I just want to know do teams play differently when
- 4:50Speaker 5: they make the goalie switch, Like is there a sense like, Okay,
- 4:52Speaker 5: this guy lost his job, now he's got it back.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Let's, you know, let's let's.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Come out and give him an extra special performance because
- 4:59Speaker 5: you play yeah.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Yeah, If you hate the goalie, he's a piece of shit,
- 5:05Speaker 4: you're not giving him anything. But if he's if you
- 5:08Speaker 4: love him, you're playing Calvin Pickard, perfect example. Guys love
- 5:11Speaker 4: them exactly, guys you know people would just try to
- 5:14Speaker 4: hate on them. I'm like, these guys absolutely love them
- 5:16Speaker 4: in that locker room and they'll just no, I think,
- 5:19Speaker 4: you know, as a d man, you know when we'd
- 5:20Speaker 4: have a goalie change, especially now at this point in
- 5:23Speaker 4: the playoffs, And it's happened before when I played in
- 5:27Speaker 4: San Jose in those years I was in the playoffs
- 5:29Speaker 4: in Dallas, and you kind of just look at each
- 5:31Speaker 4: other and the coach comes in and will be like, hey, guys, like,
- 5:34Speaker 4: you know, let them see, let them see everything, and
- 5:37Speaker 4: just make sure, like you clean up all the mess
- 5:40Speaker 4: early on, let them get comfortable. And it's like you
- 5:43Speaker 4: kind of look back at him and you're like, we got you.
- 5:45Speaker 4: We're gonna, we're gonna, We're gonna make sure we're tight defensively,
- 5:47Speaker 4: because you know that game, you know the game they
- 5:50Speaker 4: lost with with Wedgwood and nets, they didn't play great defensively.
- 5:56Speaker 4: They kind of had some holes.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Meantime, what happens in Vegas, well, the Vegas goal of
- 6:01Speaker 1: the Knights may have to waken one of the most
- 6:02Speaker 1: talented wingers in the playoffs, but they also their captain.
- 6:05Speaker 1: So forget all the playoff dram in the years passed
- 6:07Speaker 1: with Toronto, as mix Martin has found his game with
- 6:09Speaker 1: Vegas leads all playoffs score sixteen points and eleven games.
- 6:12Speaker 1: First career playoff Hatchrick in.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Game three against Anaheim.
- 6:15Speaker 1: But their heart and soul guy, the captain, Mark Stone
- 6:18Speaker 1: missing games four and five undisclosed injury Martin II club
- 6:22Speaker 1: and awesome. But can Vegas truly make a run without
- 6:24Speaker 1: Mark Stone?
- 6:26Speaker 3: I don't think so.
- 6:26Speaker 4: He's he really is the catalyst without that with that
- 6:29Speaker 4: team when he's in and I know the record is
- 6:34Speaker 4: tal you're gonna have to maybe try to grab it,
- 6:36Speaker 4: but the record with him and without him is pretty staggering.
- 6:39Speaker 4: He's just, you know, he's so good for them, and
- 6:42Speaker 4: you can see kind of it's a smart veteran guy
- 6:45Speaker 4: with a good stick that knows where to play. He
- 6:49Speaker 4: plays power play, plays penalty kill. You're missing a big piece,
- 6:52Speaker 4: so you know they get that win, overtime win, score
- 6:55Speaker 4: a feev who Yes, how.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Much is a good nickname?
- 6:59Speaker 4: I mean speaking of wingers, Like, how much is Pavel
- 7:02Speaker 4: d'orfiev gonna make next year?
- 7:04Speaker 2: Nine millionaire?
- 7:06Speaker 4: Seven goals in these playoffs? Thirty seven this year over
- 7:11Speaker 4: thirty last year. I think that that's big. That's some
- 7:14Speaker 4: wampum coming to him. Somebody's gonna overpay that fucker.
- 7:17Speaker 2: For sure.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Exactly, it's a thin free agent market in the cast
- 7:20Speaker 1: and he's so, yeah, who is he?
- 7:21Speaker 4: He's got to be the best free agent out there, No,
- 7:24Speaker 4: like in terms of bang for your buck, because you
- 7:26Speaker 4: might be able to get him at like eight million,
- 7:28Speaker 4: but like you're paying them like you're getting out your
- 7:30Speaker 4: check books. So yeah, and what an ot goal that
- 7:32Speaker 4: he scores too, I mean just but yeah, for Stone,
- 7:36Speaker 4: you know a lot of great stories in Vegas. Marner,
- 7:39Speaker 4: you know, kind of silencing the haters that the guy's
- 7:42Speaker 4: always going to take hate from Toronto media. They there's
- 7:45Speaker 4: no there's no fan base that is just stares at
- 7:49Speaker 4: Mitch Marner photos and probably follows him, follows his Instagram,
- 7:53Speaker 4: his wife's instagram. Just just they're like that X that
- 7:57Speaker 4: just won't go away. And I think it's going to
- 7:59Speaker 4: always be like that for him. But he's been great.
- 8:01Speaker 4: He's been I feel like just the collection of players
- 8:05Speaker 4: around him suits them a lot better than it did
- 8:07Speaker 4: in Toronto and the decor they have to get him
- 8:10Speaker 4: the puck. You know, he's getting the pucketing a lot
- 8:12Speaker 4: better positions than he did when he was in in Toronto.
- 8:15Speaker 4: So but you know, I I really do think that
- 8:19Speaker 4: missing Stone's gonna hurt this team. But I you watch
- 8:23Speaker 4: that series, Anaheim and Vegas, great series, a lot of fun.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Physical said by the way that game starting interject. Game five,
- 8:31Speaker 1: Vegas wins Reach North. It was the best game of the.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Playoffs so far.
- 8:34Speaker 1: It was good for them or he's just it in generally,
- 8:37Speaker 1: I thought it's been the best game of the playoffs.
- 8:38Speaker 4: I was like, Marle, I love Dano, But I don't know.
- 8:42Speaker 4: There's a couple other ones that I.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Very I guess maybe it's an underrated series because the
- 8:46Speaker 1: West Coast, et cetera.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Yeah, No, it's it's it's fast, it's great. I mean,
- 8:51Speaker 4: there's scoring chances galore. It's it's pretty open, like in
- 8:54Speaker 4: terms of the great a scoring chances that you're getting.
- 8:56Speaker 4: And I mean, ana I'm such an exciting team to watch.
- 8:59Speaker 3: In Vegas.
- 8:59Speaker 4: It's kind of grizzled veteran team and you know they're
- 9:02Speaker 4: they're back and forth. It's it's every mistake that Anaheim makes,
- 9:06Speaker 4: it's a Vegas capitalizes in terms of getting a scoring chance.
- 9:09Speaker 4: And both goalies have kind of had had their moments too.
- 9:13Speaker 4: That's the big thing. But yeah, I don't think it's
- 9:15Speaker 4: st I don't think it's Stone out.
- 9:16Speaker 3: They could do it.
- 9:17Speaker 4: But listen, both these teams, they're gonna run another buzzsaw
- 9:21Speaker 4: that is Colorado, and I don't think it's going to
- 9:23Speaker 4: be much of a I don't think either one of
- 9:26Speaker 4: these teams, if they give up these kind of scoring
- 9:28Speaker 4: chances are going to be able to you know, withstand
- 9:32Speaker 4: the onslaught of Colorado. Now I'm speaking like Colorado's they're
- 9:35Speaker 4: already in the finals. But that's how strong I feel
- 9:37Speaker 4: about it that they're might as well just put them
- 9:39Speaker 4: in the finals. Now, go go to the golf course,
- 9:42Speaker 4: go hang out. You guys are good. Take the week off.
- 9:45Speaker 3: We got it.
- 9:45Speaker 1: You asked for that staff from Tel Vegas eight to
- 9:48Speaker 1: nine and five without Stone during the season, So can
- 9:50Speaker 1: they wait one more game against the Ducks?
- 9:52Speaker 2: Sure, but to actually win.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Eight nine and five without them?
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yeah five?
- 9:55Speaker 3: Yeah, that's no Boynsky.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Also, Vegas need to sign Rasmus Anderson the summer, and
- 10:00Speaker 1: it's just I want to mention.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Carter Hart thirty four saves.
- 10:02Speaker 1: He made two nights after lying four goals on twenty
- 10:05Speaker 1: three shots. Bounce back from a similar situation in the
- 10:07Speaker 1: opening series. He a lot four goals and twelve shots
- 10:10Speaker 1: in Game three, Utah than when five is NAS six start.
- 10:13Speaker 1: I always look at that in terms of a goalie, like, hey,
- 10:15Speaker 1: you can have a bad game, but if you can
- 10:16Speaker 1: strug it off, Heart's now done that twice in this playoffs.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Yeah, Hearts Hearts.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Heart's a good story and his ability to kind of
- 10:24Speaker 4: bounce back all season and you know he's me shown
- 10:28Speaker 4: good resiliency and dose stall as well. But yeah, Carter Hart,
- 10:33Speaker 4: it's I think of the goaltenders right now, him versus
- 10:37Speaker 4: do Stal, I probably trust it's tough. It's it's it's this.
- 10:42Speaker 4: This series just feels like a coin flip. It really does.
- 10:44Speaker 4: You look at the stats each game and it's it's
- 10:47Speaker 4: quite literally it's razor thin. The margins are so tight.
- 10:52Speaker 4: It's just two very similar teams in sense of like
- 10:55Speaker 4: the way they're playing against each other. They match up
- 10:57Speaker 4: very well, and it's made it's made for a fucking nice, nice,
- 11:02Speaker 4: fun series, more so than a couple of the other ones.
- 11:05Speaker 4: But I mean it's been it's been a good second round.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Typically typically second round there's a little bit of a lull.
- 11:11Speaker 4: It's been a very good second round.
- 11:12Speaker 3: This year, a.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Team that nobody expected to make the playoffs.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Fill off your flyers get a three point eight percent
- 11:18Speaker 1: chance of making the playoffs and tomorrow, but somehow they
- 11:20Speaker 1: make the playoffs and they knock off their rival the Penguins.
- 11:22Speaker 2: So clearly it was a successful season.
- 11:24Speaker 4: We're talking Philly. We got a little Philly talking over.
- 11:26Speaker 4: Get them, they're out of here. I just want to
- 11:29Speaker 4: play talk for another talk to the phenomenal job question.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Past portermotion looks like an absolute stud.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Vladar is like, now they're franchise goalie Ziegras your guy.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Awesome first season.
- 11:42Speaker 1: They really missed o whin tip it obviously twenty eight goals,
- 11:44Speaker 1: but he missed the Carolina series.
- 11:46Speaker 2: But here's the one I wanted to ask you about.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Matt fay Meachcoff, what do you do?
- 11:48Speaker 1: Disappointing sophomore season, one assist in eight playoff games, healthy
- 11:52Speaker 1: scratch in pivotal playoff games. He was fourth and voting
- 11:55Speaker 1: for the Calder season ago. Now it's easy to say, well,
- 11:57Speaker 1: just trade him.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I'm like, give it.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Now, you're selling low on the guy. So do you
- 12:00Speaker 1: start the season with him? Hopefully he has a good
- 12:02Speaker 1: start and.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Then flip him or do you actually do believe he's
- 12:05Speaker 2: a Flyer long term? Clearly talks not a fan, but.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Danny bri clearly, but Danny Brian, Keith Jones moved mountains.
- 12:11Speaker 2: They get this guy here, What do you do if
- 12:13Speaker 2: you're the Flyers A.
- 12:15Speaker 4: You gotta give him more more runway. I mean you
- 12:17Speaker 4: have to either sit down with talk and you have
- 12:21Speaker 4: to next year. You got to give him twenty games
- 12:26Speaker 4: at the start of the season. Because here's the thing
- 12:28Speaker 4: with with Philly. They had no business being in the playoffs.
- 12:32Speaker 4: They had no business getting passed Round one. The Pittsburgh
- 12:35Speaker 4: laid an egg of epic proportions, probably gonna go down
- 12:39Speaker 4: as one of the bigger eggs laid just coming out
- 12:42Speaker 4: of sleep. They got they showed, Yes, they went to
- 12:46Speaker 4: They went to overtime both games against Carolina. They had opportunities,
- 12:51Speaker 4: but Carolina dominated that series.
- 12:53Speaker 3: It was there was a class above.
- 12:56Speaker 4: The biggest issue they can make now is thinking they're
- 12:59Speaker 4: bigger than they are and kind of speeding up this
- 13:04Speaker 4: rebuild process. You got to stay the course. I think
- 13:08Speaker 4: they have some good pieces. I'm now I'm giving them
- 13:10Speaker 4: the positive. They have some really good pieces. You got
- 13:13Speaker 4: to build around listen to Owen Tippets in that series,
- 13:15Speaker 4: it's probably a different series. They probably do win a game,
- 13:19Speaker 4: maybe two because Owen Tippett and what a crazy but
- 13:23Speaker 4: internal bleeding insane. So I'm glad he's all right, but
- 13:27Speaker 4: he's a he's a monster. But you got listen, you
- 13:30Speaker 4: got a foundational goal in Dan Vlodar, You got some
- 13:32Speaker 4: really good pieces. Meetchkoff is kind of the sex factor
- 13:35Speaker 4: for him. That has a great years first year, did
- 13:38Speaker 4: some really good things, some bad habits, as any young
- 13:41Speaker 4: player does. But you know, I kind of feel like
- 13:45Speaker 4: with Ziegris there, it's rendered him a little bit less
- 13:50Speaker 4: valuable because now you're looking at Meetschoff Zegress, two very
- 13:55Speaker 4: similar players, two dishers that like to play on the perimeter.
- 13:58Speaker 4: Not the fastest guys, but you know they can, they
- 14:02Speaker 4: can make passes, they canacilitate, can score at times. So
- 14:06Speaker 4: but I do think you got to give him. You
- 14:08Speaker 4: brought him over here, you got to give him some
- 14:09Speaker 4: more runway next year. You got to play him for
- 14:11Speaker 4: ten twenty games. If you're that worried about I know
- 14:13Speaker 4: we've went back and forth on his his health and
- 14:17Speaker 4: his fitness I mean, have talk, work out with them
- 14:20Speaker 4: all summer, have him stay at Talks house, because talks
- 14:24Speaker 4: to you know, he's a fitness guru. So have talk,
- 14:27Speaker 4: have him stay with Talk, have talk, feed him, cook
- 14:30Speaker 4: for him, work them out, and then come.
- 14:33Speaker 3: The season he's ready to go. There's no excuses. Now
- 14:35Speaker 3: these you guys.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Be bed buddies all Summery with that, I mean, in
- 14:39Speaker 1: my mind, I'm like, do that because then at least
- 14:42Speaker 1: have to talk oversee his fitness, because then at least
- 14:45Speaker 1: you know, once the season starts, there's no excuse for that.
- 14:47Speaker 4: And then play him for ten to twenty games twenty
- 14:50Speaker 4: minutes a night, and see what happens at the start
- 14:53Speaker 4: of the season. Give him the opportunity, see what happens.
- 14:56Speaker 4: And if it doesn't work, I mean, listen, you didn't.
- 15:01Speaker 4: It's a pick. It sucks you lost it, but high peck, Yeah,
- 15:05Speaker 4: because you have a lot of other pieces there with Portomarton.
- 15:08Speaker 4: It makes him a little bit more expendable in terms
- 15:11Speaker 4: of his If he's disappointing early on next year, like you,
- 15:14Speaker 4: you're not like, oh my god, we got to get
- 15:16Speaker 4: something for him. You just trade him for a pick
- 15:18Speaker 4: or trade him for a player, and who knows, he
- 15:20Speaker 4: might go in and say, you know, Dove, I trade
- 15:23Speaker 4: me fucking now.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Yeah he might, But maybe this is that wake up call.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Maybe he realizedes say, you know what, I was out
- 15:29Speaker 1: of shape. I was outclass. He's gotta be.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Scratched him in game four. But that's not a scratch
- 15:34Speaker 3: the least.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I don't like h Now, that's all I was going
- 15:35Speaker 1: to talk without all summers. You put in jet Lachenko
- 15:37Speaker 1: in for Matthew like he's playing eight Ohl games. You kidding,
- 15:42Speaker 1: He's not going to score in that game.
- 15:43Speaker 4: No, it's you play me golf in that game. I'm sorry,
- 15:47Speaker 4: but that that's a huge That was a huge mistake.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Yeah, come hell or high water.
- 15:50Speaker 1: And obviously they did miss no kates in the series
- 15:53Speaker 1: as well, but ultimately Carolina was a better team, There's
- 15:55Speaker 1: no doubt about it. And I think you have to
- 15:56Speaker 1: stay the course. As you said, the biggest mistake. Now
- 15:58Speaker 1: to speed up the rebuil. Oh, we're back, Okay, let's
- 16:00Speaker 1: trade a bunch of guys for Brady can chuck. No, no, no,
- 16:02Speaker 1: you have a bunch of good young players.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Le's just take it.
- 16:04Speaker 4: Take get Betty, make your picks. Yeah, take it easy.
- 16:07Speaker 4: That metro's kind of open. It's going to be open
- 16:10Speaker 4: a little bit. There's gonna be some movement. There's gonna
- 16:13Speaker 4: be a lot of teams buying this summer in the Metro,
- 16:16Speaker 4: and there's not much out there. You gotta be very
- 16:18Speaker 4: careful because you know, if you miss, I think it's
- 16:22Speaker 4: going to be interesting which team kind of comes out ahead.
- 16:25Speaker 4: But if you miss, you can set yourself back big
- 16:28Speaker 4: time and Philly out just.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Last one on them, real lack of finish which was glaring.
- 16:31Speaker 1: I mean, I love Travis Connecty, but you got to
- 16:33Speaker 1: score a goal at some point.
- 16:34Speaker 3: If you're getting seventeen breakaways.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Dude, you get seven million dollars year. You got to
- 16:37Speaker 1: score some goals here, Like what are we doing? Him
- 16:39Speaker 1: and Zeger specifically all right, don't and out. After being
- 16:41Speaker 1: interviewed by the Canucks about their vacant GM jobs, Shane
- 16:44Speaker 1: don't officially parting ways with the Maple Leaves brought in
- 16:47Speaker 1: by previous general manager Bradscher living as a special advisor
- 16:49Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three. He will not be working with
- 16:51Speaker 1: Mattsendane and your boy John Chaco. Now you've said your
- 16:54Speaker 1: old team. It could be a GM in the NHL.
- 16:56Speaker 1: So if you were counseling him, if you were like
- 16:58Speaker 1: Rick talkt bed buddies of Meatscheff getting into shape. Here's
- 17:00Speaker 1: some peptides. What would you be saying to Shane don't
- 17:03Speaker 1: he was never my teammate. But good research, guys, it's
- 17:08Speaker 1: never my teammate.
- 17:09Speaker 3: He can't. I came in.
- 17:10Speaker 4: After, but you know, just through osmosis. I you know,
- 17:13Speaker 4: I skated with his son. I skated with him quite
- 17:16Speaker 4: a bit. I played an alumni stuff with him. But
- 17:19Speaker 4: he's amazing.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Listen. I he should be a GM or an AGM.
- 17:26Speaker 4: He needs to get the opportunity if you're giving you know,
- 17:29Speaker 4: Chikes and Matt Sundeen, who's done fucking just radio for
- 17:33Speaker 4: the in Sweden. If you're gonna do that with Matt
- 17:36Speaker 4: Sundeen as a culture thing, I feel like you got
- 17:39Speaker 4: to bring in Shane do in somewhere. I would like
- 17:41Speaker 4: to see shanedon in Vancouver, Seattle. I think those are good.
- 17:45Speaker 4: I kind of tweeted about it and I had people
- 17:47Speaker 4: throwing up the jets and people love the idea of
- 17:51Speaker 4: him being an AGM or a GM. I think people
- 17:53Speaker 4: want him in the league. He's one of the great
- 17:55Speaker 4: human beings around in the NHL. I think an AGM
- 17:59Speaker 4: might be a better fit for him, just because I
- 18:02Speaker 4: think of his personality and he's very forward facing guy.
- 18:06Speaker 3: You know.
- 18:06Speaker 4: I I wondered if Chika reached out to him when
- 18:11Speaker 4: he got the Toronto job to maybe try to squash
- 18:13Speaker 4: it or you know, I'm not I'm not quite sure
- 18:19Speaker 4: what happened. And maybe that's the reason why you know,
- 18:22Speaker 4: Donor didn't want to go back, is that wound is
- 18:24Speaker 4: still deep, because you know, the whole thing with Chiica
- 18:26Speaker 4: is he came into Arizona and basically Shane Done wanted
- 18:30Speaker 4: to work with him and wanted to work around the team,
- 18:32Speaker 4: and he kind of said, no, get out of here.
- 18:34Speaker 4: And you know, I think that was a mistake that
- 18:36Speaker 4: he probably regretted. So I hope that he kind of
- 18:38Speaker 4: smoothed the waters when he went into Toronto. But I
- 18:42Speaker 4: think you know, listen, any team would benefit highly and
- 18:45Speaker 4: I think Vancouver needs to bring in somebody that the
- 18:48Speaker 4: fans are going to like. They can't go off the
- 18:50Speaker 4: board as much as people maybe want them to.
- 18:55Speaker 6: Like.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Within hockey, I think if you're a Vancouver fan, you
- 18:59Speaker 4: need to see. I heard the Sedines might be going back.
- 19:02Speaker 4: I heard they kind of just talked about going to
- 19:05Speaker 4: be involved in the in either development or at the
- 19:09Speaker 4: executive level. So I think, Shane, don't bring a bunch
- 19:11Speaker 4: of ex players in Vancouver, because you know the Rutherford
- 19:14Speaker 4: and Alvine shit didn't work. So bring it a couple
- 19:17Speaker 4: couple X guys and see what they can do and
- 19:19Speaker 4: really give them a chance, because that's kind of the
- 19:21Speaker 4: one place in van where it's like it doesn't really
- 19:24Speaker 4: fucking matter what you do. It's such a dumpster fire
- 19:27Speaker 4: with like what happened this season that anything's better do something.
- 19:31Speaker 3: It thinks that they got the number three pick.
- 19:32Speaker 1: I mean, that's just bad luck. Can you imagine that
- 19:35Speaker 1: bad He was so angry. You had an awful season.
- 19:38Speaker 1: No matter what guys, we're getting McKenna or Stenberg, either
- 19:40Speaker 1: we were getting a stud and you go.
- 19:42Speaker 3: No, actually got the number three, like son of a bitch?
- 19:44Speaker 4: Well you you never know with that pick because you
- 19:47Speaker 4: know San Jose has made it a parent they need
- 19:50Speaker 4: to retool their decore good point. So it's like it's
- 19:53Speaker 4: you could see an interesting one like a Chase Reed
- 19:55Speaker 4: come off the board. But I feel like Stenberg is
- 19:58Speaker 4: the most NHL ready guy in my mind.
- 20:03Speaker 2: I just think you have that kind of season. Oh
- 20:04Speaker 2: we're gonna get McKenna.
- 20:06Speaker 4: Yeah, we got McKenna. Know, you get the seventh overall pick.
- 20:08Speaker 4: We're fucking third, might as well be the tenth at
- 20:12Speaker 4: that point. One more topul than We'll get to Chris Ponger.
- 20:14Speaker 4: Butch please some Pacific drama division this week is the
- 20:18Speaker 4: Vegas gold Knights reportedly rejected the Oither's request to talk
- 20:21Speaker 4: to their former coach, Bruce Cassidy. That's going to Frank
- 20:24Speaker 4: Sara Valley.
- 20:24Speaker 1: This isn't only a problem because Cassie's still technically under
- 20:27Speaker 1: contract to Vegas, but Edmonton still is a coach and
- 20:29Speaker 1: Chris Knablock, I'm sure.
- 20:30Speaker 3: This happens all the time Jeday, it justly doesn't become public.
- 20:33Speaker 2: What do you make of what's going through Chris Nablock's
- 20:35Speaker 2: mind right now?
- 20:37Speaker 4: Like really, really, we're gonna go through this shit again.
- 20:43Speaker 4: We're gonna go through this shit again with Edmonton. We're
- 20:45Speaker 4: gonna do this again. We're gonna fire the coach and
- 20:49Speaker 4: we're gonna fucking bring somebody else in and we're not
- 20:51Speaker 4: gonna address the elephant in the room, which is the
- 20:54Speaker 4: GM and everything above and we're gonna come in here
- 20:56Speaker 4: and they're just gonna pass the buck down the line.
- 21:00Speaker 4: I'm I'm shut. I was like what, like what like
- 21:05Speaker 4: this is what we're doing? Like they don't realize, they're
- 21:08Speaker 4: like Connor's gone. Like I was like, they're gonna figure
- 21:13Speaker 4: it out, Like if you're that inept and like this
- 21:17Speaker 4: is you're going after You can't even talk to Bruce
- 21:19Speaker 4: and you're going after Bruce Cassidy Like that's how bad.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Like I understand Bruce Castid a great coach, fan of
- 21:24Speaker 4: the show. Yeah, you know, he's got a great you know,
- 21:28Speaker 4: puth of experience, but really, like this is what like
- 21:32Speaker 4: two Stanley Cup finals. You you fucking blew up the
- 21:36Speaker 4: team this year and you made horrible decisions with the McLeod's,
- 21:41Speaker 4: the Fogels, you know, you you trade, you trade Skinner
- 21:45Speaker 4: for Jari and now you have that contract to deal
- 21:48Speaker 4: with and then he doesn't even play in Connor Ingram
- 21:50Speaker 4: and he's shit talking the team and they're shit talking
- 21:53Speaker 4: him and you have all this nonsense and you're not
- 21:56Speaker 4: and really, really seriously, seriously.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Stan Bowman tell me lines of Stan Bowman have he's
- 22:04Speaker 1: just got to yance again.
- 22:05Speaker 4: Come the fuck on stand please, God no, it feels
- 22:10Speaker 4: like I'm the Michael Scott.
- 22:12Speaker 3: No, no, it's like Toby. Toby just walked into the room.
- 22:18Speaker 2: That's what I'm on.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Guys, like, we're gonna do it again. We're gonna do
- 22:22Speaker 4: it again in Edmonton. We're going through that. It's fucking
- 22:24Speaker 4: we're on the merry go round.
- 22:25Speaker 1: But it would be it'd be great for unscripted because
- 22:28Speaker 1: Talacas said, listen, where the place that we get coaches hired?
- 22:30Speaker 2: Were not only hired in TV?
- 22:31Speaker 1: Bruce cashion him here, then he's on TV the CLI
- 22:34Speaker 1: I love Vegas though, saying like yeah, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 22:37Speaker 1: no no, we fired him.
- 22:38Speaker 2: You can't have him?
- 22:39Speaker 3: How how is Vegas the daddy?
- 22:41Speaker 4: And they've been around such a you know, they've been
- 22:44Speaker 4: around less time than Edmonton as a franchise, and they're
- 22:46Speaker 4: just like, no, I'm your papa.
- 22:48Speaker 3: You can't I'm your papa.
- 22:50Speaker 2: You can wait a year if you really want, Bruce
- 22:51Speaker 2: cats you.
- 22:52Speaker 3: That you're gonna have to wait one year still to
- 22:55Speaker 3: come here.
- 22:55Speaker 1: An NHL Unscripted a returning guest Chris Pronger poning his
- 22:59Speaker 1: new book earned the True Cost of Greatness, one of
- 23:01Speaker 1: Hockey's fiercest competitors proms because us his thoughts, not his
- 23:04Speaker 1: career writing the book.
- 23:05Speaker 2: But also this year's inchell plaffs.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Go ahead, what you got breaking news right now? Oh,
- 23:10Speaker 4: Craig Berube out out coaching change at the Maple Leafs. Wow,
- 23:16Speaker 4: could see Bruce Cassidy, Craig John Chika coming in, slitting throats,
- 23:24Speaker 4: cold and calculated.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Well you knew it was gonna be tough for Chief
- 23:27Speaker 1: to remain as the coach considering.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Oh man, oh yeah, I mean it was. But yeah,
- 23:32Speaker 3: once they have.
- 23:32Speaker 2: The press comes, we gotta just talk to Chief for
- 23:34Speaker 2: the same. Now, who San Page?
- 23:35Speaker 4: Can we finally find out who punched him?
- 23:39Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 23:39Speaker 1: Well no it was it was in the worker when
- 23:40Speaker 1: we said the weight felons, he gave the whole elaborate action.
- 23:43Speaker 1: But kidd, he come out and be like, actually it
- 23:45Speaker 1: was fucking Willy neelf, No it wasn't.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Will He just drilled me. We argued, we drilled.
- 23:52Speaker 4: Meba had two more years left on his deal, so
- 23:56Speaker 4: they're paying him four point five a.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Year, incredible nine million bucks just don't do anything. I think.
- 24:01Speaker 4: I think Brubay gets fired if I'm Edmonton higher Chief
- 24:05Speaker 4: Chief nice, I love it.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Che right, he gets right in there. I like it.
- 24:10Speaker 2: He's a pluck and play kind of coach. All right.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Proms coming up next. Thanks to the breaking news.
- 24:14Speaker 1: On Chief, our next guest draft is second overall by
- 24:29Speaker 1: the Hartford Whalers the nineteen ninety three NHL's draft. He
- 24:32Speaker 1: scored six hundred and ninety eight points in one hundred
- 24:34Speaker 1: and sixty seven career games the Whalers, Blues, Oilers, Ducks
- 24:38Speaker 1: and Flyers. He led the Oilers and Flyers to stand
- 24:40Speaker 1: like a final all with Anaheim in two thousand and seven.
- 24:43Speaker 2: His new book has earned the True.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Cost of Greatness from one of hockey's fiercest competitors. I
- 24:48Speaker 1: pre ordered the book, read it in two days. It's
- 24:50Speaker 1: fantastic and it's a bestseller. My man, your friend, Chris Pronger,
- 24:54Speaker 1: what's up, Prongs?
- 24:56Speaker 7: What's going on? Thanks for having me.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Of course, buddy. Good to see again. The media tour
- 25:00Speaker 1: has been unbelievable. We had Matt carl on last week
- 25:04Speaker 1: and I said to mate, exactly, I said, Curl, I
- 25:06Speaker 1: listened to you and Prongs form Defense Partners in Philadelphia.
- 25:10Speaker 2: What was that like? As all this in Prongs is great.
- 25:12Speaker 2: He was a great teammate.
- 25:12Speaker 3: We got along well.
- 25:13Speaker 1: But I gotta be honest with you, he said, I'm
- 25:15Speaker 1: not on social media, but I am on LinkedIn, and
- 25:17Speaker 1: I see Progs is pretty busy. He's put himself out
- 25:19Speaker 1: there right now. Absolutely, he's got to book different out
- 25:22Speaker 1: here about it. But he said the world's a better
- 25:24Speaker 1: place and hockey's a better place when Chris Pronger is involved.
- 25:26Speaker 1: So I wanted to just as you know, I read
- 25:28Speaker 1: the book. There's a couple of excerpts that I found
- 25:31Speaker 1: particularly notable, and I think, you know, it's interesting when
- 25:33Speaker 1: you write a book, as you know, because different people
- 25:36Speaker 1: kind of get attracted to different aspects of it. So
- 25:38Speaker 1: I thought this was interesting and JD can speak to
- 25:40Speaker 1: this as a former athlete. Guys, the toll that you
- 25:42Speaker 1: put yourselves through. This was page ninety one. That night
- 25:45Speaker 1: at dinner, my elbow swelled so badly I couldn't bend
- 25:48Speaker 1: it to cut my steak. The waiter must have thought
- 25:50Speaker 1: I was drunk watching me try to eat left handed, dropping.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Food like a toddler.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Maybe we should go.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Home, Lauren suggested gently, I'm fine. I said again, that's
- 25:57Speaker 1: your wife, Lauren.
- 25:57Speaker 2: But I wasn't fine. None of us were.
- 25:59Speaker 1: You don't play through what we've played through it and
- 26:00Speaker 1: just bounce back. The adrenaline has kept us upright for
- 26:03Speaker 1: two months was gone, and our bodies were presenting the bill.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I thought about my teammates scattered across the continent, probably
- 26:09Speaker 1: dealing with their own collapses. We'd asked our bodies to
- 26:11Speaker 1: do the impossible, and for one hundred and six games
- 26:14Speaker 1: they'd answered. But bodies keep score, even in your mind
- 26:17Speaker 1: tries to forget. First off, terrific writing. Secondly, that kid,
- 26:22Speaker 1: I mean, that's a vivid description of what you go through,
- 26:24Speaker 1: all the injuries, all the toll.
- 26:25Speaker 2: People don't realize that.
- 26:28Speaker 6: Yeah, And I think every year when when when a
- 26:31Speaker 6: team either gets knocked out or they ultimately win that
- 26:35Speaker 6: cherished Stanley Cup, you you do see the mass unit
- 26:40Speaker 6: come out, and you know, we hear what Owen tippets
- 26:43Speaker 6: going through about all these guys like you hear you
- 26:46Speaker 6: hear what these guys are willing.
- 26:48Speaker 7: To play through, and you know you're playing for the guy.
- 26:50Speaker 6: Next year, you're playing for the The logo on the
- 26:52Speaker 6: front and and uh, you know you're playing for the fans,
- 26:55Speaker 6: you're playing for that opportunity to try to win the
- 26:57Speaker 6: Stanley Cup and it guys are willing to put themselves
- 27:01Speaker 6: through an awful lot to try to win that and
- 27:03Speaker 6: and they know the guy next to them on either
- 27:05Speaker 6: side and across the room would be doing the same
- 27:08Speaker 6: as well.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Yeah, the bill comes due.
- 27:10Speaker 4: That's that's a great line that you put there too,
- 27:12Speaker 4: just because even now retired, you know, you can remember
- 27:16Speaker 4: I'll be doing a workout and you're just like, oh,
- 27:19Speaker 4: I feel great.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Today's a good day.
- 27:21Speaker 4: And then all of a sudden you're like, oh, there
- 27:22Speaker 4: goes my shoulder and you're like, I know exactly the
- 27:24Speaker 4: game and the moment that that happened, or like my knee,
- 27:27Speaker 4: and you like it takes you back into a moment
- 27:29Speaker 4: in time. But some great stuff in that book prongs.
- 27:32Speaker 4: And you know you've been doing the media tour now
- 27:34Speaker 4: you're promoting with rich Eyesen Edelman all over the place,
- 27:38Speaker 4: like how has the media junket been? Because I know,
- 27:42Speaker 4: you know, my wife's acting and stuff like that, and
- 27:44Speaker 4: that could be that can take it toll mentally as
- 27:47Speaker 4: well and physically. Because you're up early. It's different times
- 27:49Speaker 4: you might be flying around. Like, what's been some of
- 27:52Speaker 4: the highlights and the low lights for you so far
- 27:54Speaker 4: through this media junket tour.
- 27:57Speaker 6: Yeah, it's it's been a lot of work, been a
- 28:01Speaker 6: lot of flying. Ad Nan and I have talked a
- 28:04Speaker 6: couple times where maybe the battery is getting a little
- 28:07Speaker 6: bit low. But it was a lot of fun, you know,
- 28:11Speaker 6: going around and you know, talking about the book, talking
- 28:14Speaker 6: about kind of my story and and.
- 28:17Speaker 8: The ups and downs and everything in between.
- 28:19Speaker 6: But uh, the reception, as you guys both both have said,
- 28:22Speaker 6: has been excellent and very appreciative and understanding.
- 28:27Speaker 8: I get a lot of.
- 28:27Speaker 6: Messages from people just the impact that's having on them,
- 28:31Speaker 6: which was kind of.
- 28:32Speaker 7: The purpose of the book. I don't need to talk
- 28:35Speaker 7: about myself that much.
- 28:36Speaker 6: But you know, when you're you know, to your point
- 28:39Speaker 6: in the beginning, when you put yourself out there and
- 28:41Speaker 6: you're trying to show people that you know, we're fallible
- 28:44Speaker 6: to and you know, there's a lot that goes into
- 28:49Speaker 6: you know, and an NHL career, an athletic career and
- 28:53Speaker 6: life in general, and you try to put somebody in
- 28:56Speaker 6: your shoes and and and hopefully they get a sense
- 28:59Speaker 6: and and a feel for their own lives and and
- 29:03Speaker 6: hopefully they can take something from it and utilize it
- 29:06Speaker 6: in their lives and level up and and be difference
- 29:08Speaker 6: makers and hopefully live a much stronger, healthier life.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Part of what's been so much fun to work with
- 29:15Speaker 1: you is people ask me what's Wrongs like, And I'm like, well,
- 29:17Speaker 1: he's a great guy.
- 29:18Speaker 3: He's funny, he's a barrel of Alaskatina. That's a lie
- 29:20Speaker 3: you said.
- 29:21Speaker 1: He is a dead he doesn't take any shit, he
- 29:24Speaker 1: does not suffer fools gladly. And to page one twenty eight,
- 29:27Speaker 1: in the end, you're not a victim of the trade tree.
- 29:29Speaker 1: You're not a passenger. You're the fucking gardener and every
- 29:32Speaker 1: trade is just another chance to grow. And I think
- 29:34Speaker 1: that kind of epitomizes you in a lot of ways.
- 29:36Speaker 1: For a guy who was a Hall of Fame defenseman,
- 29:38Speaker 1: you were not on one team for eighteen seasons like you.
- 29:40Speaker 1: You bounce around, you with different places, had to fit
- 29:42Speaker 1: in all right. Like you know that, I think to
- 29:44Speaker 1: me is inspiring saying that line specifically, you're the fucking gardener.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Every trade's a chance to grow.
- 29:49Speaker 6: You use it when you make of it, right, Yeah,
- 29:51Speaker 6: I look at you know, I think it took me
- 29:53Speaker 6: a while to learn and figure that out. But uh,
- 29:57Speaker 6: we all go through a lot of you know, trials
- 29:59Speaker 6: and tribulations.
- 30:00Speaker 8: But when you when you think about like that statement,
- 30:05Speaker 8: you think.
- 30:05Speaker 6: About, Okay, you're you're gonna get moved at some point,
- 30:09Speaker 6: You're you're gonna have to Adversity is a gift.
- 30:12Speaker 7: You have to utilize it. You've got to utilize it
- 30:14Speaker 7: to grow.
- 30:15Speaker 6: Learn from our mistakes and you know, sometimes learn from
- 30:18Speaker 6: our successes as well. What worked Now we need to
- 30:21Speaker 6: implement more of that into our games or our lives
- 30:24Speaker 6: or what have you. And uh, there's there's a there's
- 30:26Speaker 6: a lot of things that we can do better in life.
- 30:29Speaker 7: But I think we have to understand where our feet are.
- 30:32Speaker 6: Currently planted and and kind of live live in the
- 30:35Speaker 6: moment and knowing you know, I talk to my kids
- 30:38Speaker 6: all the time. We don't play the what if game
- 30:39Speaker 6: in the Pronger household. Well, what if I did this,
- 30:42Speaker 6: and what if I did That's not how the world works.
- 30:45Speaker 8: The world is round. I'm sorry, and I'm going to
- 30:47Speaker 8: tell you right now the world is not flat.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Are you flatter.
- 30:53Speaker 7: Another Earth is not flat?
- 30:55Speaker 2: Are you flat Earth? Are you? You know?
- 31:05Speaker 4: Throughout this you know media blitz, and it is a blitz.
- 31:08Speaker 4: You answer a lot of the same question and you
- 31:10Speaker 4: share a lot of the story because people, you know,
- 31:12Speaker 4: it's a lot of repetition. But for you kind of
- 31:15Speaker 4: what's been the story, either from the book or through
- 31:19Speaker 4: this process, that's kind of gotten the biggest response from people,
- 31:22Speaker 4: and you've had to to really kind of continually reiterate it,
- 31:25Speaker 4: talk about it and things like that.
- 31:26Speaker 1: I'll answer for him, Edmonton. That's how you bury the lead.
- 31:32Speaker 1: That's how you answer asks a proper question at and
- 31:35Speaker 1: don't speak for thirty five minutes.
- 31:37Speaker 8: I thought you were in the media and then.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Question yeah, yeah that.
- 31:43Speaker 6: I mean that obviously got a lot of attention, Thank you, Kevin,
- 31:47Speaker 6: But uh, you know, that wasn't the genesis of the book.
- 31:50Speaker 6: I think a lot of people, you know, when I
- 31:53Speaker 6: talk about it, my speech is a lot when you
- 31:55Speaker 6: have success, everybody sees the trophies and the rings and
- 31:59Speaker 6: the you know, all that that goes with it, and
- 32:02Speaker 6: they always forget about the journey and the heartache and
- 32:05Speaker 6: the difficult moments, the adversity. As we just talked about.
- 32:08Speaker 6: And I think people you know, learning about my story.
- 32:11Speaker 6: I didn't play triple A hockey. I played high school
- 32:13Speaker 6: hockey in Canada, which not the.
- 32:16Speaker 7: Not the easiest.
- 32:17Speaker 6: Of routes for most and you know, and then obviously
- 32:21Speaker 6: people forget about all the booing and on home ice, yes,
- 32:25Speaker 6: my home fans were booing me quite religiously. And I
- 32:29Speaker 6: think people forget about all that as you you know,
- 32:32Speaker 6: move on through your career and and have some success
- 32:35Speaker 6: and you know, maybe turn those fans into uh, you know,
- 32:39Speaker 6: people that really enjoy your play and become super fans.
- 32:44Speaker 6: And there's a lot of moments like that that I
- 32:49Speaker 6: wanted to put into the book, not a lot of
- 32:52Speaker 6: you know, and then we scored a goal and we
- 32:53Speaker 6: won and all that type of stuff. It's more moments
- 32:55Speaker 6: that people can identify with, people can learn from, uh,
- 33:00Speaker 6: you know, more of a fifty thousand foot view as
- 33:02Speaker 6: opposed to day to day.
- 33:03Speaker 7: Here's what we did type of thing.
- 33:05Speaker 6: If we if we started doing that, it'd be, uh,
- 33:07Speaker 6: the book would be quite a bit longer.
- 33:09Speaker 8: And I know Ad and N doesn't like to read book.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Thank there are a lot of pictures of the book,
- 33:13Speaker 3: just to be clear.
- 33:15Speaker 4: I want to I want to touch on something you
- 33:17Speaker 4: just mentioned about, you know, getting booed on home ice,
- 33:19Speaker 4: and and you know people tend to think as as fans. Hey,
- 33:25Speaker 4: you know, you're making all this money and you shouldn't
- 33:27Speaker 4: matter what the fans say or do, and you should
- 33:29Speaker 4: be fine. You should kind of stay in your lane
- 33:31Speaker 4: and stuff like that. But kind of the mental toll
- 33:34Speaker 4: that that that takes in the internal conversation you have
- 33:36Speaker 4: to have with yourself when that's going on. You know,
- 33:39Speaker 4: when your fans, your home fans kind of your safe
- 33:41Speaker 4: space because you know that as an athlete, when you
- 33:43Speaker 4: go home and plant home ice, it's typically that safe
- 33:46Speaker 4: spot for you. Like I was a Homer when I played,
- 33:49Speaker 4: it was like, oh my god, I love playing at home.
- 33:51Speaker 4: But it turns in because I was like on the road.
- 33:53Speaker 4: It just I just enjoyed it so much more as
- 33:56Speaker 4: do a lot of guys. But like for you, like
- 33:59Speaker 4: it's almost became like a place that you want to
- 34:02Speaker 4: get away from. So like, how is that mentally to
- 34:04Speaker 4: to fight that battle of being on home ice and
- 34:08Speaker 4: being seen as the villain from your fans' eyes.
- 34:11Speaker 6: Yeah, it it hardened me to say the least, you know,
- 34:16Speaker 6: I think those first three years were incredibly difficult, but
- 34:20Speaker 6: allowed me to grow up, allowed me to form the
- 34:23Speaker 6: grit and resilience that I was gonna need later on
- 34:25Speaker 6: in my career when I was dealing with major injury,
- 34:27Speaker 6: when I was trying to, you know, help my various
- 34:30Speaker 6: teams get get the Stanley Cup and hopefully win, and
- 34:34Speaker 6: was able.
- 34:34Speaker 7: To do it one time.
- 34:36Speaker 6: And you know, I think it's just that the struggle
- 34:39Speaker 6: and to your point, that internal dialogue you have with
- 34:42Speaker 6: yourself and the victimhood mentality that you have that it's
- 34:45Speaker 6: their fault. It's uh, you know, your teammate's fault, the
- 34:49Speaker 6: coach's fault, it's the owner's fault, it's everybody else's fault
- 34:52Speaker 6: but your own. And ultimately, once you know, I was
- 34:55Speaker 6: able to turn the page on that and and kind
- 34:58Speaker 6: of take ownership and accountability for my play, for you know,
- 35:01Speaker 6: my decisions, you know, not coming into camp.
- 35:03Speaker 8: In great shape and all the rest of that stuff.
- 35:06Speaker 6: You know, once I was able to kind of, you know,
- 35:09Speaker 6: understand what it was going to take to be a
- 35:11Speaker 6: true pro and in form the habits and the discipline
- 35:14Speaker 6: it was necessary, then you know, I started to really understand,
- 35:19Speaker 6: and you start realizing when you're going through those moments
- 35:23Speaker 6: you're young and you're like, this is this is bullshit.
- 35:26Speaker 6: I can't believe this is going on. And then as
- 35:28Speaker 6: you age a little bit and you understand the league
- 35:30Speaker 6: a little bit more, you're like, oh, the GM's job
- 35:33Speaker 6: is on the line, the head coach's job is on
- 35:35Speaker 6: the line. Your teammates jobs are on the line. You're
- 35:38Speaker 6: the new guy coming in, You've got to this contract.
- 35:40Speaker 6: You don't really care, but you don't realize that how
- 35:43Speaker 6: you play affects everybody else.
- 35:45Speaker 7: And I think I really took that to heart, you know,
- 35:47Speaker 7: as I.
- 35:48Speaker 6: Started mature a little bit and started to understand the
- 35:51Speaker 6: expectations and you know that vicious word potentially start living
- 35:56Speaker 6: up to that. You start looking at your career a
- 35:59Speaker 6: little bit differently and understanding that you know every year
- 36:02Speaker 6: you've it could be your last year and you have
- 36:04Speaker 6: to utilize that opportunity to the best of its ability.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Last one on the book, and then we'll turn to
- 36:10Speaker 2: this year's playoffs.
- 36:11Speaker 1: This to me was the most poignant part of the book,
- 36:13Speaker 1: Page one thirty eight, which brings us back to the
- 36:15Speaker 1: big decision to quit My kids have been the catalysts,
- 36:18Speaker 1: not through confrontation, but through observation. When your adult children
- 36:21Speaker 1: start being embarrassed at family gatherings or other events because
- 36:23Speaker 1: they don't want to see you in party mode again,
- 36:25Speaker 1: When they stop bringing friends around because they're not sure
- 36:27Speaker 1: which version of dad they'll get, when their disappointments become palpable,
- 36:31Speaker 1: that's your wake up call, or it should be. So
- 36:33Speaker 1: for me, it was non negotial daily behaviors or girls
- 36:36Speaker 1: is how I felt none. So I created one zero alcohol,
- 36:39Speaker 1: not drink responsibly, not only on weekends, not just wine
- 36:42Speaker 1: with dinner.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Zero.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Because here's what thirty years of standards taught me, gray
- 36:46Speaker 1: areas of where standards go to die. Just one becomes
- 36:49Speaker 1: just tonight, becomes just this week, becomes just like always.
- 36:52Speaker 1: What's the reaction been to that prox I'm sure that's
- 36:54Speaker 1: pretty powerful.
- 36:56Speaker 7: Yeah, it's been. Uh, you know, I think there's been
- 36:58Speaker 7: a lot.
- 36:58Speaker 6: I've had a lot of people reach out and you know,
- 37:00Speaker 6: kind of tell me their story, you know, whether you
- 37:03Speaker 6: know they've don't with addiction in some form or fashion.
- 37:08Speaker 6: You know, I think if you're going to write a
- 37:11Speaker 6: book like this, you're going to put it all out
- 37:12Speaker 6: to you might as well put all of it out there,
- 37:14Speaker 6: you know, and as you have come to find out,
- 37:17Speaker 6: and that I really don't care what people think.
- 37:20Speaker 8: I think that's the beauty of this whole thing.
- 37:23Speaker 7: You know.
- 37:23Speaker 6: I've got my opinions, and you know they are you know,
- 37:28Speaker 6: they're movable.
- 37:29Speaker 8: I tend to.
- 37:30Speaker 6: Listen more so now than I did maybe when I
- 37:32Speaker 6: was younger, and my opinions do change.
- 37:34Speaker 7: But uh, I think.
- 37:37Speaker 6: As I started writing a book and you know, we're
- 37:39Speaker 6: starting to get towards the end of my career then.
- 37:41Speaker 7: You know, life after and.
- 37:42Speaker 6: On and on and on, and you're like, okay, well
- 37:44Speaker 6: how do you where's the jump off point to the book?
- 37:48Speaker 6: And you know, I think that needed to be in
- 37:50Speaker 6: there because I think people need to see that you're real,
- 37:52Speaker 6: and you know, they see the mistakes you made maybe
- 37:54Speaker 6: when you were playing, and you know, then people, you know,
- 37:57Speaker 6: you're not on TV anymore, You're not you know, in
- 38:00Speaker 6: front of twenty thousand people plus millions on TV, and
- 38:03Speaker 6: you know, people forget about you.
- 38:05Speaker 7: They forget kind of where you are, what you're doing.
- 38:07Speaker 8: We always see the where are they now? Episodes?
- 38:10Speaker 6: And uh, you know, I think people always wonder, you know,
- 38:12Speaker 6: what happened and where is so and so, and and
- 38:15Speaker 6: on and on and on, And I think they want
- 38:17Speaker 6: to see where that journey has taken them.
- 38:20Speaker 8: They want to see what either somebody is up to,
- 38:23Speaker 8: what they've been dealing with.
- 38:24Speaker 6: We always hear these stories about athletes and their struggles
- 38:28Speaker 6: and whatnot, and you know, you want to be able
- 38:30Speaker 6: to make it look real and so that people understand
- 38:33Speaker 6: that athletes are real just like them, and you know,
- 38:37Speaker 6: as you walk them through the book, I think that
- 38:39Speaker 6: puts them firmly in that place.
- 38:41Speaker 1: J D has said before that you could be a
- 38:42Speaker 1: GM in this league, and you mentioned publicly you did
- 38:45Speaker 1: not interview for the Maple Leafs GM job that was
- 38:46Speaker 1: recently filled. I wish Amazon Prime had an off season
- 38:49Speaker 1: show for us so I could have got your reaction
- 38:51Speaker 1: to that.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Press conference, the Great Press Conference. Here's my thought for
- 38:56Speaker 3: that one.
- 38:56Speaker 8: That one was an all timer.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Like AI generated, You've been around Steve Simmons, You've been
- 39:01Speaker 1: around guys will ask tough questions, you know, to that
- 39:03Speaker 1: show ever with Philly. But my thing is this, I
- 39:08Speaker 1: just I'm shocked that Pelly didn't engage a little bit.
- 39:10Speaker 1: I'll be clear, because I asked all you freeman about this.
- 39:12Speaker 1: He goes, if you've been around corporate culture, and you've
- 39:14Speaker 1: been around a lot of corporate people, prongs, he goes,
- 39:16Speaker 1: the key is don't engage. So when Steve starts going
- 39:18Speaker 1: in that path, Pelly's like, no, I'm not gonna engage.
- 39:20Speaker 1: It's like, okay, thanks, let me know see it like definite, Well.
- 39:23Speaker 6: I guess we talked to different people, by the way.
- 39:29Speaker 6: By the way, think about that and then think about
- 39:31Speaker 6: that response. Actually, I mean it's pr one on one.
- 39:35Speaker 6: So it's like like when I used to scream and
- 39:38Speaker 6: yell at the referees, and the good ones.
- 39:41Speaker 8: Would be like, Prongs, I missed it. What is my response?
- 39:45Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 39:45Speaker 8: I can't. Okay, yeah, I mean.
- 39:48Speaker 6: It just diffuses everything as opposed to the other referee.
- 39:51Speaker 8: It screams and yell you you're an idiot. There's no
- 39:54Speaker 8: way I miss it. You know, it's just night and days.
- 39:57Speaker 7: So I mean, you think about it.
- 39:58Speaker 8: It's actually really just turns the page really quickly.
- 40:03Speaker 1: But the least fan base was on inspired by that.
- 40:05Speaker 1: They wanted Pelly to fire back, like Steve, you know
- 40:07Speaker 1: what you're talking about. This is why Chake is so great,
- 40:09Speaker 1: et cetera. As just said, it was just so surreal
- 40:11Speaker 1: to me.
- 40:11Speaker 2: Chake is being.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Insulted by Steve Simms, He's sitting right there, and the
- 40:15Speaker 1: questions for Keith the soa bizarre.
- 40:18Speaker 6: Yeah, uh interesting take nonetheless, But you know what I
- 40:23Speaker 6: think I'll put it.
- 40:25Speaker 8: I'll put it on the other side of it.
- 40:27Speaker 6: If if I'm still a player, If I'm a player
- 40:29Speaker 6: and I have to deal with all this stuff and
- 40:31Speaker 6: all the criticism and all the hatred and vitriol at different.
- 40:35Speaker 8: Times, why do they not have.
- 40:36Speaker 6: To Oh yeah, why do we have to always like
- 40:39Speaker 6: schmooze over what they've done and their accomplishments and all
- 40:42Speaker 6: this stuff. So, you know, I think there was some
- 40:46Speaker 6: I think maybe it wasn't positioned correctly and and may
- 40:50Speaker 6: have been a little too like in your face. I
- 40:56Speaker 6: think I think the the overall tenor of the question
- 40:59Speaker 6: was was probably accurate, but maybe the presentation wasn't great.
- 41:04Speaker 7: But I don't I.
- 41:06Speaker 6: Think the question need to be asked, but I don't
- 41:07Speaker 6: think they're going to get an answer anyways.
- 41:10Speaker 4: I don't believe in I don't believe in round numbers either.
- 41:13Speaker 4: When somebody says a fact, and that they spoke to
- 41:16Speaker 4: twenty people. I never believe in round numbers. I'm like,
- 41:21Speaker 4: you called exactly, you're.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Speaking yer fourteen people. I was like seven, you go
- 41:26Speaker 1: to twenty.
- 41:27Speaker 4: Come on, come on, just give us, give us, say
- 41:30Speaker 4: seventeen and eight.
- 41:31Speaker 3: You know, just give me.
- 41:32Speaker 8: That one for nineteen. It's pretty good though.
- 41:34Speaker 3: Yeah, that's not bad. I want to know who the
- 41:36Speaker 3: one was. I gotta we gotta know who that is
- 41:40Speaker 3: talk about.
- 41:40Speaker 4: I mean speaking of people that need to kind of
- 41:43Speaker 4: I don't want to say, you know, answer some tough questions.
- 41:47Speaker 4: But in Edmonton right now, you're seeing all the talk
- 41:49Speaker 4: about nod Block and the Bruce Cassidy thing. We just
- 41:52Speaker 4: what are your thoughts on that? And Edmonton haven't been
- 41:55Speaker 4: there that storied franchise. Where are they going right now?
- 41:59Speaker 4: And what what the hell needs to happen there in
- 42:02Speaker 4: the offseason for this team to kind of be so successful.
- 42:06Speaker 6: Well, I think with this now coming out, I think
- 42:07Speaker 6: you pretty much have to fire the guy that.
- 42:10Speaker 8: Would That would be point number one.
- 42:14Speaker 2: You know.
- 42:14Speaker 6: Point number two is he's got a fresh new three
- 42:17Speaker 6: year contract that he gets an earn out on. You know,
- 42:22Speaker 6: I don't know how quickly he might get a job.
- 42:26Speaker 6: You know that that remains to be seen.
- 42:28Speaker 9: But uh, you know it every I don't know every
- 42:33Speaker 9: year they until they actually win, you know, and get
- 42:37Speaker 9: Connor McDavid and Leon dry side on these guys over
- 42:40Speaker 9: the finish line.
- 42:42Speaker 7: It'll be interesting to see.
- 42:44Speaker 6: And then you add in it was that accurate? Evan
- 42:47Speaker 6: Bouchard had a concussion in the playoffs?
- 42:48Speaker 8: Is that legit?
- 42:50Speaker 3: Apparently?
- 42:51Speaker 8: Some of the stuff I see on Twitter, I don't
- 42:53Speaker 8: know if it's true.
- 42:53Speaker 3: So yeah, it's all over the place.
- 42:55Speaker 7: Yeah, I try not to.
- 42:56Speaker 6: I try not to engage in some of that stuff,
- 42:58Speaker 6: but you know, you look at all these different things,
- 43:01Speaker 6: and now you know they're obviously on the clock with McDavid.
- 43:03Speaker 8: You know, people are like, oh, but him and Leon
- 43:06Speaker 8: are building the home together.
- 43:08Speaker 7: I don't think that really matters. He can still live.
- 43:10Speaker 8: There later or he can sell it.
- 43:13Speaker 3: He'll sell it.
- 43:14Speaker 8: I mean, whoever pays him coming off this two year.
- 43:17Speaker 6: Deal is going to be paying him a lot of money,
- 43:19Speaker 6: so it you know, I think they have to and
- 43:23Speaker 6: I would agree with their assessment.
- 43:25Speaker 8: I think they did regress, but I think when you
- 43:27Speaker 8: look at what they.
- 43:28Speaker 6: Tried to do in going younger and maybe a little quicker,
- 43:33Speaker 6: and you know, losing Brown and losing Perry and losing
- 43:36Speaker 6: some of these guys.
- 43:38Speaker 8: You know, you bring in Howard, you bring in some boy,
- 43:41Speaker 8: you're bringing it. You know, you've got.
- 43:44Speaker 6: This youth injection, but they's still a learning curve and
- 43:47Speaker 6: they're not going to be where those other guys were
- 43:49Speaker 6: maybe out of the jump. But you know, you saw
- 43:53Speaker 6: throughout the court. You know, Jack Rauzovik was a pretty good,
- 43:55Speaker 6: you know, low budget signing, you know, at the start
- 43:58Speaker 6: of the year. So you brought in some guys that
- 44:01Speaker 6: could help a little bit.
- 44:02Speaker 7: But again, the learning curve, the development.
- 44:05Speaker 6: When you're bringing in young guys, they're not going to
- 44:07Speaker 6: be as seasoned as you know, Corey Perry at forty
- 44:10Speaker 6: years old last year was their their heartbeat, I believe
- 44:15Speaker 6: it or not. Like he was the guy that stirred
- 44:18Speaker 6: the drink, that understood the gamesmanship and understood the ups
- 44:24Speaker 6: and downs of energy and when to go create a
- 44:27Speaker 6: fight and stir it up and do all these things.
- 44:29Speaker 6: And at forty years old, if that's the guy you're
- 44:31Speaker 6: relying on to kind of get your team going, you know,
- 44:34Speaker 6: we need to check things a little bit and I
- 44:36Speaker 6: think they were trying to maybe readjust that part of
- 44:40Speaker 6: it and bring in some youthful enthusiasm. And you know,
- 44:44Speaker 6: I think they struggled early on partly because of that.
- 44:47Speaker 6: I think partly they're tired, you know, back to back
- 44:50Speaker 6: Stanley Cup finals and losing.
- 44:52Speaker 7: You know, that's the part.
- 44:53Speaker 6: I don't think people realize the mentality of losing back
- 44:56Speaker 6: to back finals and what that Number One, you're beat up,
- 44:59Speaker 6: as we just talked about the laundry list, injuries, the
- 45:03Speaker 6: mindset and how hired you are from just the energy
- 45:06Speaker 6: drain of getting that far and pushing yourself to the
- 45:09Speaker 6: limit and then coming away with nothing is very defeating
- 45:13Speaker 6: and and sometimes you know, I think we saw you know,
- 45:16Speaker 6: they kind of mailed it in the first six to
- 45:17Speaker 6: eight weeks of just you know, our skill will kind
- 45:20Speaker 6: of keep us around and then we'll kind of turn
- 45:22Speaker 6: it on and see what happens.
- 45:24Speaker 4: What stood out for you in these playoffs, you know,
- 45:26Speaker 4: is there a player or a team that's just kind
- 45:29Speaker 4: of blowing your socks off or you know, we talked
- 45:32Speaker 4: about the teams that kind of disappointed a little bit,
- 45:34Speaker 4: But what's kind of set out the most of you
- 45:36Speaker 4: from these playoffs and a team specifically, well, I think.
- 45:41Speaker 7: You know, you'd be remiss if you didn't bring up Carolina.
- 45:44Speaker 6: I know they didn't play the top teams yet, but still,
- 45:48Speaker 6: you know, to dispatch you look at the analytics for
- 45:52Speaker 6: Ottawa there. That's the sole reason I thought they might
- 45:56Speaker 6: do much better than a four games sweep.
- 45:58Speaker 7: I know the games are close.
- 45:59Speaker 6: Again, you know, I think Carolina now kind they kind
- 46:02Speaker 6: of seem to have the template of understanding how to
- 46:04Speaker 6: win these close games. Yeah, you know, their their their
- 46:07Speaker 6: pressure system, the way they attack. Uh, you know, they've
- 46:11Speaker 6: been getting great goaltending. You know, I think there is
- 46:14Speaker 6: a way to beat them, as we saw with Florida
- 46:17Speaker 6: last year. I think of the two remaining teams, Buffalo
- 46:22Speaker 6: and Montreal, I think Montreal would have the better I
- 46:25Speaker 6: think so because I think they're quicker. I know Buffalo
- 46:28Speaker 6: is quicker, but I think Montreal plays fast. They play
- 46:30Speaker 6: a little bit heavier game. Uh and and they you know,
- 46:34Speaker 6: the kind of meet in the middle and and they
- 46:37Speaker 6: make plays. You know, that's against If you watch the
- 46:42Speaker 6: Ottawa and the Philly series, all they did was flip
- 46:45Speaker 6: it out, you know, because they couldn't handle the pressure
- 46:48Speaker 6: and when you looked at last year in the playoffs
- 46:50Speaker 6: when Carolina beat Washington and then they lost to UH
- 46:55Speaker 6: to Florida, Washington just kept flipping it out, flipping it out,
- 46:58Speaker 6: flipping it out.
- 46:58Speaker 7: And then once.
- 46:59Speaker 6: Florida could make plays and then start pressuring Carolina, you
- 47:04Speaker 6: started to see them welt a little bit, and they didn't.
- 47:07Speaker 6: They didn't handle it as as well as maybe some expected.
- 47:10Speaker 6: And so there's you know, that'll be an interesting segue
- 47:14Speaker 6: to you know, Buffalo Montreal. I think both those teams
- 47:16Speaker 6: have I'm not a big fan of some of those
- 47:19Speaker 6: penalties I saw last night. It looked a little weak
- 47:22Speaker 6: to me, but that seems to be part of the
- 47:25Speaker 6: course and this this play off anyways.
- 47:28Speaker 3: What's that? What's that? What are you taking from this?
- 47:30Speaker 3: We're seeing a lot of this in the playoffs right now.
- 47:33Speaker 3: The head snap back.
- 47:34Speaker 4: I know, guys are taking it in the face and
- 47:36Speaker 4: you are getting I feel like it's and maybe more
- 47:39Speaker 4: so defending wise. I know when you played you played very,
- 47:43Speaker 4: very tough, and and you had great work with your
- 47:46Speaker 4: stick in terms of finding the meat. We talked about
- 47:49Speaker 4: that last time we had John. You've always found the meat.
- 47:52Speaker 4: Beat you beat the ship.
- 47:53Speaker 8: Out of that, maybe a little bone, find a little.
- 47:56Speaker 4: Bone, but you see a lot of aaron sticks, and like,
- 47:59Speaker 4: I feel like the teaching of controlling your stick is
- 48:02Speaker 4: kind of falling a little bit the wayside with a
- 48:05Speaker 4: lot of the young defenders and stuff like that. But
- 48:08Speaker 4: it's it's a fine line of where you're going and
- 48:11Speaker 4: when you kind of get over that chest plate, you're
- 48:14Speaker 4: just asking for a stick in the face. I don't
- 48:16Speaker 4: know if that's something that's not being taught, or I
- 48:19Speaker 4: don't know what you're seeing from that, or or it's
- 48:21Speaker 4: just raffing's a little bit too soft right now.
- 48:25Speaker 6: I think it is being taught at the lower levels.
- 48:27Speaker 6: I think these kids are being taught how to drop penalties,
- 48:30Speaker 6: you know, because it's you know. And I think the
- 48:33Speaker 6: other the other side of that equation is when we
- 48:36Speaker 6: look at Okay, I knock your stick out of your hands,
- 48:40Speaker 6: I'm getting a penalty.
- 48:42Speaker 7: Why are you not holding your stick?
- 48:45Speaker 8: I should not be able to knock your stick out
- 48:47Speaker 8: of your hands, but I get a penalty when I
- 48:49Speaker 8: when I knock it out of your hands?
- 48:51Speaker 7: Are you kidding me? What does this league come to?
- 48:54Speaker 6: Seriously, like that used to be gamesmanship off, a face off,
- 48:59Speaker 6: whack hold your stick like I'm sorry.
- 49:03Speaker 8: I just look at some of the penalties, Like a
- 49:06Speaker 8: guy gets.
- 49:06Speaker 6: His stick in underneath the guy's stick and loops it
- 49:10Speaker 6: over the top of the guy's blade, and that's hooking.
- 49:12Speaker 8: He's nowhere near his hands, he's nowhere near he's on
- 49:16Speaker 8: his stick, and that's a hooking pedal. Like, well, what
- 49:19Speaker 8: is this leek coming to, Like, I'm sorry, Like.
- 49:24Speaker 6: You can't fight through a guy hooking your stick, like
- 49:27Speaker 6: we're gonna call that, and it just you know, there's there's,
- 49:30Speaker 6: you know, to your point about I think partly the
- 49:33Speaker 6: the the head flip is partly I think taught, and
- 49:38Speaker 6: I think the other part is the players nowadays are
- 49:41Speaker 6: not taught how to handle their sticks properly, you know again,
- 49:46Speaker 6: and it goes back to manage your stick properly. Don't
- 49:49Speaker 6: let somebody knock your stick out of your hands. Hold
- 49:51Speaker 6: your stick appropriately, and hold it like it like it
- 49:54Speaker 6: should be held, you know, firmly. They hold it like
- 49:58Speaker 6: this with two fingers everywhere they go, and of course
- 50:02Speaker 6: I'm going to knock it out of your hands. So
- 50:04Speaker 6: and I think the whole you know, lifting of the
- 50:07Speaker 6: stick you know they're coming in aggressively to lift a
- 50:10Speaker 6: stick and then take the puck, but they're not really
- 50:13Speaker 6: I think, aware of or understanding as to you know,
- 50:17Speaker 6: what's around when they're lifting. And then you know we're
- 50:21Speaker 6: seeing more players do I mean, listen, if you're coming
- 50:24Speaker 6: near my eye, I've been hitting the eye. You're coming
- 50:26Speaker 6: near my e I'm gonna move my head. I mean,
- 50:28Speaker 6: it's just a natural reaction. When a stick's coming near
- 50:30Speaker 6: your face, you're gonna move.
- 50:32Speaker 7: And people are like, oh, but he didn't hit him.
- 50:33Speaker 7: I go, yeah, it didn't hit him because he moved.
- 50:35Speaker 8: Like you know, anytime a stick comes near it.
- 50:38Speaker 6: Now, if it goes by me and then I go, oh,
- 50:42Speaker 6: then you know, maybe that might be a little egregious.
- 50:45Speaker 8: But anything that's.
- 50:46Speaker 6: Coming near my face, I will be flipping my head
- 50:49Speaker 6: because it's a natural reaction.
- 50:51Speaker 2: Last question, we'll get ready to prongs.
- 50:53Speaker 1: A lot of talk this postseason about Queen Hughes brock
- 50:55Speaker 1: Favor both averaging around thirty minutes per game in these playoffs,
- 50:58Speaker 1: but you and al mckinness both average over thirty five
- 51:01Speaker 1: per minute per game. Excuse me, for Saint Louis, you're
- 51:03Speaker 1: in the nineteen nine nine playoffs. How was that having
- 51:06Speaker 1: that kind of work like thirty five a game with
- 51:08Speaker 1: big al?
- 51:09Speaker 7: Oh, uh, well I could.
- 51:11Speaker 8: I could tell you it was a little bit different
- 51:13Speaker 8: than those two.
- 51:15Speaker 2: I was very uh.
- 51:19Speaker 6: Focused on defense, So I would you know, when you're
- 51:22Speaker 6: playing that many minutes.
- 51:23Speaker 8: Again, I wasn't as good as skater as Quinn Hughes.
- 51:25Speaker 6: So when you're playing those and a little bit bigger body,
- 51:28Speaker 6: playing a little different style, you know, you're you're you
- 51:32Speaker 6: have to give something up. And so for me, it
- 51:35Speaker 6: was I wasn't jumping into play. I wasn't wasting energy
- 51:38Speaker 6: trying to you know, be you know, second.
- 51:41Speaker 7: Or third layer.
- 51:42Speaker 6: You know, I was getting up to the blue line,
- 51:44Speaker 6: you know that type of stuff. But I wasn't going in.
- 51:47Speaker 6: I wasn't joining the rush.
- 51:48Speaker 8: I wasn't you know.
- 51:49Speaker 6: So you're you're trying to be as efficient as possible
- 51:53Speaker 6: and you're trying to you know, conserve as much energy
- 51:56Speaker 6: as possible, you know, watching you know, Quinn Hughes the
- 51:59Speaker 6: other night, I think he played thirty four minutes.
- 52:02Speaker 3: Maybe, and uh, it's crazy.
- 52:04Speaker 8: You know, he's all over the ice.
- 52:06Speaker 6: He's willing, you know, now again he's not hitting anybody.
- 52:09Speaker 6: So you're not taking you're not draining yourself in that respect,
- 52:12Speaker 6: but you still got to defend.
- 52:14Speaker 8: You still got to have a good stick.
- 52:15Speaker 6: You still have to engage a little bit to get
- 52:17Speaker 6: pucks back and things of that nature. But to play
- 52:20Speaker 6: thirty four minutes up the ice, you know, edge work,
- 52:24Speaker 6: all the stuff we see with him in the offensive zone,
- 52:28Speaker 6: it's pretty impressive.
- 52:30Speaker 2: No doubt about it. Chris Parker, what's again?
- 52:32Speaker 1: It makes you just check out the book It is
- 52:33Speaker 1: called Earn The True Cost of Greatness for one of
- 52:35Speaker 1: hockey's fiercest competitors, and of course by teammate Amazon Prime.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Our top three moments of the year, by the way,
- 52:40Speaker 1: in terms of three stars, Number three was hot Dogs
- 52:42Speaker 1: in Buffalo. There was previous hot Dogs in Denver. Number
- 52:45Speaker 1: two was the Milkshakes in Buffalo. And number one was
- 52:49Speaker 1: Craig Muni thinking I was Chris Jelly it is in Buffalo.
- 52:52Speaker 8: But what about Trew Scott. Trew Scott honorable mention, honorable mention, Yes,
- 53:00Speaker 8: honorable mention.
- 53:01Speaker 1: Trew Scott was the guy quite faant we had to
- 53:03Speaker 1: take in order to get Mike and Boublay is thrilled
- 53:06Speaker 1: to see Prongs.
- 53:06Speaker 3: Hey, what's up.
- 53:07Speaker 1: I'm a big hug Scott fucking the guy for property
- 53:11Speaker 1: whatever it's called property ardeners. I don't even know, has
- 53:14Speaker 1: no idea who Prongs is? Who's this guy, Drew Scott?
- 53:17Speaker 1: What's your name again, Chris, Chris, nice to meet you.
- 53:19Speaker 3: You're you're a hockey or you have no idea who.
- 53:21Speaker 2: Chris Pronger is.
- 53:25Speaker 8: Thank you for coming on our show.
- 53:31Speaker 3: Great stuff, buddy, congrats in the book.
- 53:33Speaker 7: All right, thank you, m.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Thanks once again to Chris Pronger.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Time for a little cinephal and sixty listen a little
- 53:46Speaker 1: Broadway musical just for JD's better half. I know Gillian's listening.
- 53:50Speaker 1: Went took my wife Aman to go see Just in Time,
- 53:52Speaker 1: the Bobby Darren Musical right now, Circle in the Square Theater.
- 53:55Speaker 2: It's a great theater. Every seat's a good seat.
- 53:57Speaker 1: Don't know a ton about Bobby Darren died at thirty seven,
- 54:00Speaker 1: married to Sandrew Day. But of course some great songs
- 54:02Speaker 1: beyond the season, absolute banger, Who's Turning Off?
- 54:05Speaker 2: Splitch Splash?
- 54:05Speaker 1: Even though it was kind of a jingoistic hit, he
- 54:07Speaker 1: wasn't crazy about it himself, you know, obviously, Mack to
- 54:11Speaker 1: and knife is a great song and dream lover who's
- 54:12Speaker 1: turning that off?
- 54:13Speaker 3: So great stage show.
- 54:15Speaker 1: It would be what Jillian would call, I think a
- 54:16Speaker 1: jukebox musical because it's telling the life and times of
- 54:19Speaker 1: Bobby Darren, but doing so of the music of his life.
- 54:21Speaker 2: But I didn't know a ton about him.
- 54:22Speaker 1: Again, I'm surprised there's been other musicals about more bigger characters. Remember,
- 54:26Speaker 1: Kevin Spacey did a film called Beyond the Sea, which
- 54:29Speaker 1: was a Bobby Darren biopic, terribly reviewed. I know he
- 54:32Speaker 1: got nominated for Golden Globe and the reviews were savage,
- 54:34Speaker 1: and the main criticism was that Kevin Spacey at the
- 54:36Speaker 1: time was again his forties. Bobby Durren died at thirty seven.
- 54:39Speaker 1: Why is Kevin Spacey playing a guy who was like
- 54:40Speaker 1: ten fifteen years younger than him. But Spacey himself bit
- 54:43Speaker 1: of a crooner, certainly was great music. If you want
- 54:45Speaker 1: to go see a great Broadway show, I do recommend
- 54:48Speaker 1: Just in Time. Jad your thoughts and Just in Time
- 54:50Speaker 1: Broadway musical Bobby Darren. You and Jillian have checked it out?
- 54:53Speaker 1: Are you gonna go see it?
- 54:54Speaker 2: What are you thinking?
- 54:55Speaker 1: Uh?
- 54:56Speaker 3: Is that space He's in it? No?
- 54:57Speaker 1: Spacey did the movie Beyond the Sea about Bobby Darren.
- 55:00Speaker 1: This guy is starring Anthony Anderson. Apparently he's a big
- 55:02Speaker 1: Broadway star. Jonathan Groft did the show.
- 55:04Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I just I.
- 55:07Speaker 4: I literally am texting with my wife as we speak,
- 55:09Speaker 4: and I see the three bubbles.
- 55:10Speaker 3: I said, it's just in time. Good. So I'm waiting
- 55:12Speaker 3: to hear I can get something. I can't wait.
- 55:14Speaker 4: We're for the fans at home. We're gonna do what
- 55:17Speaker 4: we call them the biz feeling time. We're gonna fill
- 55:19Speaker 4: little time. As I kind of speak slowly and methodically,
- 55:23Speaker 4: and first I know what I'm saying. But first half
- 55:25Speaker 4: was a B plus. The second half was to see
- 55:27Speaker 4: I mean, you don't need these twenty year conditions.
- 55:28Speaker 2: It's a little bloated.
- 55:29Speaker 3: But I love the stage. Wok love the directly but
- 55:31Speaker 3: they're yeah there, you gotta go see Titanique.
- 55:33Speaker 4: Yes that I do want to see the splash my uh,
- 55:36Speaker 4: that's the show she did, Big Gay Jambrie.
- 55:38Speaker 3: That's the same creators.
- 55:39Speaker 2: Okay, so Titanic is it's funny right like it's legit.
- 55:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it's supposed to be funny. It's yeah, it's it's
- 55:44Speaker 4: she she does a whole accent. Jill auditioned for it.
- 55:46Speaker 4: She was the last She's the last one for Rose.
- 55:49Speaker 4: Final callback. Oh wow, final fucking callback. If you're like probably, yeah,
- 55:56Speaker 4: I got the text from Jillian Muller. Me and Denise
- 56:00Speaker 4: actually loved it. That's her mom.
- 56:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:03Speaker 4: Alex Timber directed it. They redirected, They redid the theater
- 56:08Speaker 4: for it. I like the way they did it with
- 56:10Speaker 4: people sitting at tables in the middle like cabaret, and
- 56:13Speaker 4: the actors.
- 56:13Speaker 3: Would be like in the mixed doing scenes.
- 56:15Speaker 2: Yes, and he gave her.
- 56:16Speaker 3: Ideas for her Broadway musical she's writing.
- 56:19Speaker 1: So that's fantastic, a right, just in time. This is
- 56:23Speaker 1: just the half of improvement. Yeah, she's right. The actors
- 56:26Speaker 1: pop up at different place in the stage. It was
- 56:27Speaker 1: very creatively directed. The very cool all right Captain mack
- 56:30Speaker 1: even on a roster featuring veterans like John Tavares and
- 56:32Speaker 1: Ryin O'Riley. Team Kanada tabbing nineteen year old Macklin Celebraty
- 56:36Speaker 1: to serve as their captain for the.
- 56:37Speaker 2: Upcoming World Championships.
- 56:39Speaker 1: That could change the late edition of Cidney kras but Celebraty,
- 56:41Speaker 1: the youngest player on the team just six days younger
- 56:44Speaker 1: than is San Jose Sharks teamate Sam Dickinson Worth mentioning
- 56:48Speaker 1: San Jose doesn't have a captain. So how long, Jady Youson,
- 56:50Speaker 1: you're you're tied into the Sharks as well as anybody
- 56:52Speaker 1: broadcasting working for the team.
- 56:53Speaker 2: How long until Maxi gets the sea?
- 56:56Speaker 4: I mean, it's already, it's already sewn in his jersey.
- 57:00Speaker 4: It's it's it's this year. One thousand percent. They'll probably it.
- 57:05Speaker 4: Probably they might announce it at the draft. They might
- 57:08Speaker 4: announce it post draft and free agency, but they'll probably
- 57:12Speaker 4: make a deal out of it, just because I think
- 57:14Speaker 4: it'll be a big deal. You know, loadur be passing
- 57:18Speaker 4: the baton. But yeah, it's it's his team for now
- 57:22Speaker 4: and until he retires. And it's crazy Sidney Crosby joining
- 57:26Speaker 4: world championships, like take a rest, sid fucking guy man crazy?
- 57:31Speaker 2: What makes me?
- 57:31Speaker 1: Thought it's more of a reason he will be at
- 57:33Speaker 1: the next Olympics before I'm like, I'm not sure he's
- 57:35Speaker 1: thirty eight, like, no, forty two, he's going to be there.
- 57:37Speaker 4: We we taught me and Jameis and Coyle talked about that.
- 57:39Speaker 4: We said we thought We're like, we think he does
- 57:42Speaker 4: the last that's his last hurrah and he's done.
- 57:44Speaker 3: Is that season if he makes it?
- 57:46Speaker 2: All right Hardware report.
- 57:47Speaker 1: All the finals have been named, so let the debates begin.
- 57:49Speaker 1: Couture Off McDavid McKinnon for the Heart, Schaeffer, Demidoff, Seneca
- 57:53Speaker 1: for the Calder, Cooper Big Dick, Dan Muse and Lindy
- 57:57Speaker 1: Rough for the Jack Adams, Sorokan Swamon, Vasilevsky for the Vesna,
- 58:01Speaker 1: Garn McFarlane and Verbeek.
- 58:03Speaker 2: For the GM Gotta be garon.
- 58:05Speaker 1: No group generate more fiery takes than the Norris, cal mccarr, Rasmus, Dolleen,
- 58:10Speaker 1: zach Warensky, but not Evan. Bouchard led all defenseman ninety
- 58:13Speaker 1: five points, fourteen more than second rank Wrensky twenty one goals,
- 58:18Speaker 1: seventy four sists and a plus twenty five better than
- 58:20Speaker 1: Dahalien and Wrensky.
- 58:21Speaker 2: Some talk to me about no Quinn Hughes, But your
- 58:24Speaker 2: thoughts on Bouchard not being a Norse Trophy finalist.
- 58:27Speaker 4: I think it's a little shitty, you know. I don't
- 58:30Speaker 4: know what the hell these guys are voting for. It's
- 58:32Speaker 4: like the Doleen thing. I think it's amazing story. I
- 58:37Speaker 4: would probably have Dollian. I would have dropped maccart this year.
- 58:39Speaker 4: I don't think McCart deserved to be on the list.
- 58:41Speaker 3: I think he do.
- 58:42Speaker 4: I think mccarr is the best defenseman in the NHL
- 58:45Speaker 4: one thousand percent. But do I think he was the
- 58:47Speaker 4: Norris Trophy winner this season? No, I don't think so.
- 58:50Speaker 4: I don't think he should have been in the nominations.
- 58:52Speaker 4: I think he's top five, but I don't think he's
- 58:55Speaker 4: in the three if you want to give Dolleen because
- 58:58Speaker 4: you know b X in the Sportsnet guys gave him
- 59:00Speaker 4: his flowers and didn't even give the correct information. And
- 59:03Speaker 4: I love those guys when they're talking about his penalty killing.
- 59:06Speaker 4: I think it's Warenski's to win. I think he deserves it.
- 59:10Speaker 4: I thought what he did this season was pretty incredible
- 59:12Speaker 4: and remarkable for you know, the team and the surrounding
- 59:16Speaker 4: cast of characters he had with him. But to not
- 59:18Speaker 4: give Bouchard the nominations, it's a little shitty. Well, it's
- 59:21Speaker 4: like what points matter until Bouchard does it, because everybody
- 59:25Speaker 4: whinds and moans that. You know, he makes bad turnovers
- 59:28Speaker 4: and I mean, the guy had fucking was playing the
- 59:32Speaker 4: most penalty kill minutes he's ever played in his career.
- 59:35Speaker 4: He was playing I think, the most minutes of his career.
- 59:37Speaker 4: He most points without him, his team's in the cellar,
- 59:42Speaker 4: they have no other defenseman. They can drive offense, you know,
- 59:46Speaker 4: and all of a sudden, then you're gonna give it
- 59:47Speaker 4: to Eric Carlson the area at one hundred points when
- 59:49Speaker 4: he was like minus thirty, and he was a forward
- 59:52Speaker 4: like come on, like you're just like you're it's so
- 59:55Speaker 4: egregiously obvious that the people voting just don't like Evan
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: Bouchard and it's such a personal vendetta against him, and
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: I kind.
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: Of tweeted about it and I was just like, it's
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: just kind of shitty, man.
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: I'm like, this fucking guy gets it from all angles
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: all the time, and he just sits down and he
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: you know, you you know, we talked to Prongs about
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: getting booed and by your fan base, and you know,
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: fans just don't appreciate him, I don't think. And yeah,
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: he makes his eye test turnover wise is bad, and
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: his body language at time is bad, but what he
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: did points wise, come the fuck on plus twenty five
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: ninety five points, Like, how does that not warrant a vote?
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: I know it's not a points trophy, but mccarr he
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: had a better year than mccar. It's not a better
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: defenseman than macar, let me clarify that, but he had
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: a better year than Cale mccarr.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: And it just is what it is.
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: Dolly, and I think what he went through with his
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: wife and leading that team to the playoffs and the
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: season he had, I think warrants a vote as well.
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: And then Wrenski's the winner, but like, come on, I'm like,
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: it's just it's a little shitty. You're just throwing the
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: car because of the bias, and.
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: So you would have put him a head of macr Bouchard.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: Yeah, to me, is.
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: Bouchard dollying if you want and Wrensky and I think
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: the dollying one is could be flipped. I think Warnsky
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: and Bouchard should have been the two solid ones in
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: there interesting to be And that goes to my second
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: point of this year is it's never been more apparent
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: there needs to be two trophies for the for defenseman
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: for awards. We can't go another year without this. It's
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: it's nonsense.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: You have defense and defensive defenseman.
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: Yeah, you name the name the offense, keep it the
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: Norris for the defensive defenseman, or we call it all
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: I'd say all around. And then you have your offensive defenseman,
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: the Bobby or just call it the Bobby Orr and
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: the Norris fuck off everybody else.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: Enough's enough, I reiterate. The stories came down while we
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: were recording.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: Craig Beruby out now as the head coach of the
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: Male Leafs two years left, nine million dollars still on
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: his deal. Who do they hire? Is it Bruce Cassidy,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: Is it Dean Evison? Or maybe option see somebody a
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: lot cheaper who's an unknown.
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: Probably going to be an unknown. I'm assuming you know,
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: they got a lot of money going out the door
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: with Craig, so I don't think they can sign a.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: Big guy.
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: I think, you know, you always call it this is
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: the This is gonna be the in between coach. This
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: is going to be in between you know, somebody that
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: blows their socks off in an interview, you know, kind
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: of like an Andre TOURINGI in Utah, kind of like
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: who turn ended up really showing out very well for
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: this Utah franchise in Arizona. But it was when he
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: was in Arizona, it was a cheaper hire. Thinking he'd
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: be an in between guy for when you're ready to
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: bring in the coach. And I think this is going
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: to be the one for Toronto. It's going to be
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: just an in between maybe young guy, proven guy. You know,
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: maybe you look at Chris Knoblock. Maybe coming is another one.
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: If you keep a guy in the league. I'd bring
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: Chris Knoblock over.
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: Why not?
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: If you can afford him to Stanley Cup finals, bring
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: him right over. But I think Austin's going to have
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: a say in it. But I can't imagine they don't
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: go cheap and they don't go young. And if they
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: do and they go old in a veteran, yeah, I'd
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: be surprised because you just did that. You just did
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: that with You just did that with Brubay.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: Yeah, always mix it up.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: Maybe more a player friendly coach, younger guy, trying to
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: motivate the players.
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: Etctera last thought flowers to PK Suban.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: Four years after his last NHL game, ESPN analyst PK
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Suban successfully completed his pledge to raise ten million dollars
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: the Montreal Children's Hospital.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: The hospital announced its achievement over the weekend.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Subin announced the pledge in twenty fifteen as a member
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: of the Canadians who treated him in Nashville. A year later,
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: the hospital claims this is the largest ever philanthropic commitment
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: by Canadian pro athlete has helped approximately one hundred thousand children.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: So certainly kudos to PK in raising that money. And
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: it's not till Miliane, but Honder's rookie defense of Matthew
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: Shaeffer also to announced he's partnering with Northwall Health to
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: open the Jennifer Shaeffer Child Support Center in honor of
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: his mother, who lost her battle with breast cancer in
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: twenty twenty four.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: So a retired star and a future star both doing
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: great things.
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: Yeah, amazing.
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: I think, you know, being of service to your community
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: when you have a platform is one of the most
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: important rewarding things you can do to give back. And
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: I think we need to be a society and a
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: race of people that serve and and serve people that
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: are under privilege and also serve people that are going
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: through some tough time.
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: So good for them to do that. It's awesome stuff.
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: So you know it's got to give back.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: I was gonna say, you've always given back. You have
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: charitable ventures on your Instagram. You've talked about mental health
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: as well, so a kudos to you as well for
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: always fighting the good fight. And kudas once again to
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: Jillian and Denise her mom enjoying just in time, good
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: taste and problems and.
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: One of the first things you guys agreed upon in
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: a while. Their tastes are quite different. Yeah, I just
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: throw her on the same page. I finally, same page.
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: I'm gonna tell her she's gonna be stoked. She's like
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: ad Nan Finally.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: Thanks to Toal, Thanks for the entire crew. Nate Thompson
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: hopefully next time. Not sure if he's going to book
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: for the five fifty, but he wasn't here, But go ahead.
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: Can we get through a couple? Did we?
- 1:05:07Speaker 8: Uh?
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: Just quickly?
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: Sure we'll Player safety Brad mcnam's gonna have a hearing
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: for that hit, big one. It's a big loss for
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: Vegas even though they you know, won that one. And
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: then what did the macavoy stuff come out to? Charlie
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: X Games six Tomahawk chop I fucking love it. Six
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: laying the hammer first six games next season. Important six
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: games early in the year for Boston when you think
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: about it.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: Yeah, important.
- 1:05:38Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: That's the news of the day, folks. And this is
