- 0:07The Miami Dolphins faced the Denver Broncos at Mile High Stadium for week one of the NFL season on September 19th, 1971.
- 0:15Miami was led by Don Shula in his second year as head coach.
- 0:19Shula had turned around the team in 1970, making the playoffs with a 10-4 record after four straight losing seasons in the AFL under coach George Wilson.
- 0:29Denver was coached by Lou Saban, but were a below average team for over a decade, having never had a winning season in franchise history.
- 0:36This audio recording is from the Miami Radio broadcast featuring announcers Rick Weaver, Larry King, and Henry Burrow.
- 0:44Thank you Larry. Curtis Johnson activated on the Dolphins just before the game.
- 0:50The Denver Broncos is getting his first taste of activity on the specialty squad as the kickoff is about to occur.
- 0:59Kicking post, number 23, deep off to the far side, Bob Anderson, number 11, deep to the near side.
- 1:03Here's your premier kick. He gets it high, it's deep, back in the end zone, and post downs the footballs. There will be no runbacks.
- 1:10So the Broncos will bring it up, put it in play, first and 10 at their 20-yard line.
- 1:15Here's Richardson and Stanfield, the front four. Swift, Montacani, and Cullen, the linebackers. Foley and Mumford, the cornerbacks, and Jake Scott and Anderson at the safety.
- 1:23Don Harnelby, the quarterback. Gerke and Harrison, the wide receivers. Anderson and Little, the running backs, and Billy Masters is the tight end.
- 1:31Denver breaks out, moving from our left to our right. Gerke puts far to the left side.
- 1:38And the eye formation from the Denver 20-yard line. Horn up under center, barks the signals, waiting for the snap.
- 1:45Here's the pitch going to Little, cuts in on the right tackle, finds a hole across the 25, check at the 20, and is knocked off at the speed of the 23-yard line by Manny Fernandez, number 75.
- 1:55A pick-up of about three yards on the play. It'll be a second down and seven. Nick Montacani also in on the stop for Miami.
- 2:03The ball game has just started, and the Broncos wearing home white. You can elect to do that in the NFL with the permission of the league.
- 2:12They're going to wear white all season long. The Dolphins in their generally home uniforms. They split Gerke to the near side of the field, and Harrison is wide to the left.
- 2:21Anderson and Little, the setbacks, and behind Horn, second down and seven. Denver's ball from their 23.
- 2:27Here's the half middle, quarks through the hole in the middle, and gets to the 25, and that's all. A gain of two. Nick Montacani, number 85.
- 2:34The middle linebacker closed the gap in a hurry, along with Jim Riley, the defensive left end for Miami.
- 2:39It'll be a third down and five for the Broncos from their 25-yard line as they move from our left to our right. Larry?
- 2:47Bill Arnsberger, the Dolphin defensive coach, expected Little to carry the ball a minimum of 25 times this afternoon.
- 2:53He was the leading rusher in the American football conference last year. Gerke slips off the far side of the field, Harrison to the near side.
- 3:01Denver is one of the few teams in this league that will run on third and long yardage. A lot of confidence in their ground game.
- 3:08From their 25, Horn's going to throw this time. Swings went out, Anderson's got it. 25, and he's knocked off the seat at the 28-yard line.
- 3:15Two yards short of what they needed for the first down. Mike Collins coming over from the linebacker, spied along with Nick Montacani, makes the tackle.
- 3:21And so the Broncos fail to move the football for the necessary first down yardage in their first offense.
- 3:27And the sequence and the punting unit comes in.
- 3:30Jake Scott will go back as the deep man and Dick Anderson, the shallow man, to receive the kick.
- 3:35Bill Van Heusen, who was activated today, he's been out recovering from a knee operation.
- 3:42He averaged 42 yards for punts. Van Heusen, a good picker, will stand back at the 13-yard line.
- 3:48The line of scrimmage is the Denver Broncos, 28.
- 3:51Waiting for the snap, here it is. He gets the kick away and, boom, the high spiral out of there.
- 3:56Scott fair catches the ball at the Dolphins 31-yard line.
- 4:0142 yards on the punch by Bill Van Heusen.
- 4:05And so we set the offensive alignment for you for Miami.
- 4:09Warfield and Stowe will be the wide receivers.
- 4:11Kroosan and Evans, the tackles.
- 4:13Marpleming the tight end. Kuchenberger middle to guide.
- 4:15DeMarco at center. Greasy, the quarterback. Kickenzonka, the running back.
- 4:20Out of the head when they come. Stowe's flicks to the far side.
- 4:24Along with Warfield, double wide receivers off to the right.
- 4:27Miami's ball from their 31. Greasy sets the ball club, waiting for the snap from center.
- 4:34Long count at the line of scrimmage. Here's the handoff. The kick. He is hit and dropped.
- 4:39Coming across the left side. Might have picked up a yard for the 32.
- 4:43Tackle made by middle linebacker Fred Forsberg.
- 4:46Defensively for the Broncos, Jackson number 87 and El Zado number 77 at the end.
- 4:52McSvenney, Costa 63 of the tackles.
- 4:54Myrtle 54, Forsberg 52 and Washington 56 are the linebackers from left to right.
- 5:00Mitchell number 41 and Thompson 36 of the quarterbacks.
- 5:03Greer number 20 and George Sames number 26 are the safety men.
- 5:08Warfield flicks off to the right side from the Miami 31 yard line.
- 5:14Waiting for the snap from center.
- 5:18Greasy back to throw, has good time. Here's the pass. It is knocked away.
- 5:23Up and about the 45 yard line intended for Stowe.
- 5:27And so it will be a third down coming up and 10 for the Dolphins from their 31 yard line.
- 5:33Myrtle number 54, the left side linebacker dropping off to defense on the play.
- 5:40The Dolphin coaches there expecting Denver to bump a lot on these wide receivers.
- 5:45Denver does not go zone much but they did there.
- 5:48Double coverage coming over on Stowe and fine defensive play.
- 5:51Stowe's foot to the far side. Warfield at the near side of the field.
- 5:54Third down and 10 Dolphins from their 31.
- 5:57Kick and dunk up behind Greasy. Greasy back to throw.
- 5:59Got the pretty good right and he's going to have to eat it. Back at the 24 yard line.
- 6:04Dave Costa, 9 year veteran number 63.
- 6:06The defensive right tackle from Utah was the first man to make contact along with Paul Smith.
- 6:11An open pass protection faded away into nothing this year.
- 6:15They mark it at the 24 and the punting unit comes in.
- 6:18Larry Seifel will handle the punting short.
- 6:21We've got Charlie Greer back as the shallow man and Clay Thompson the deep man.
- 6:27One of the premier punt returners in this league, Bill Thompson, number 36, the deep man.
- 6:32From the line of scrimmage to 24, Seifel will stand at the Miami 9.
- 6:36Here's the snap. He gets the kick away and booms a beauty out of there.
- 6:40A long high spiral backing up at the 18 is Thompson.
- 6:43He grabs it 20, 25, 30. Flag down.
- 6:46He has flag down from behind across the 36 yard line but there's a flag down back to the 25.
- 6:53A 58 yard punt that time by Larry Seifel. A flag on the play, however.
- 6:59As Thompson returned out to about the 33, the second, the 37 yard line.
- 7:05The penalty is against Denver and possibly a flip on the return.
- 7:11We'll wait for the official's call.
- 7:13The officials this afternoon, the referee is Tom Bell.
- 7:18That is flipping call. Put the ball back on the 12 yard line.
- 7:23The headlinesman is Ray Dota, the umpire George Canard, the field judge Flip Kraf, the back judge Tom Gellarhart, and the line judge Royal Castor.
- 7:31Durkhey is the wide receiver to the right side. He and Harrison are double wide receivers.
- 7:36Anderson and Little are setbacks in behind.
- 7:40What about Don Horn? From the Denver 12 yard line.
- 7:43Here is the handoff. Little, flanching across the left side, bounces off tacklers and he gets to about the 14, possibly the 15, before a left line backer, Doug Swift, makes the stop on the play.
- 7:54He'll mark it at the 15 yard line so it's a game of three. It'll be second down and seven.
- 8:00We have 10 minutes, 47 seconds left to go in the first quarter. There is no score.
- 8:06The ball at the Denver 15 yard line, a second down and seven.
- 8:10Larry, that 58 yard kick by Larry Sepple was his best of the season thus far, you know, the six preseason games. A real boomer.
- 8:18Harrison's foot left, Durkhey to the near side of the field on second and seven. Denver's ball from their 15.
- 8:24Horn up under center, bucks the signal, straight back he goes to Sepple, sets up, rips one up the middle. It is wrapped, intended for Masters to tie it in at the 22 yard line.
- 8:34Doug Swift, number 59, defense on the play for Miami. It'll be a third down and seven.
- 8:40For the Bronx, from their 15 yard line, neither club able to penetrate the other team's defense thus far in the ball game.
- 8:46With 10-19 left to play in period number one. And certainly the New England Patriots pulled off a stunner this afternoon.
- 8:54Defeating the Oakland Raiders 20 to 6 was Jim Plunkett throwing two touchdown passes for New England.
- 9:02Out of a huddle now come the Broncos with Durkhey, the white man to the near side of the field, and Harrison's foot left.
- 9:08Horn has Bobby Anderson and Floyd Little as setbacks in behind him. Third down and seven from the Denver 15.
- 9:16Handoff to Little, sports through a hole in the middle. It's closed in a hurry as he's knocked off his feet at the 17 yard line.
- 9:22Richardson, Fernandez and Stanfield all closed it. And it'll be a fourth down punting situation.
- 9:29And for the second time the Miami defense has contained the Denver offense. Van Heusen will come in to handle the punting chores.
- 9:36Scott will go back as the deep man along with Sir Dick Anderson to field the punts.
- 9:41The line of scrimmage is the 17 yard line in Denver territory. Out of a huddle now they come and Van Heusen will stand back at about the two yard line.
- 9:50Nine forty-five left to play in the first period. There is no score.
- 9:55Waiting for the snap, Van Heusen gets it. He gets a good rush, gets off a low trajectory kick. Anderson takes it.
- 10:01Forty-five, forty, down to the thirty-five, thirty, twenty-five inside the twenty-five down at the Denver 21 yard line.
- 10:08Dick Anderson grabbed that short kick as a good rush was put on.
- 10:12Den Herder is the fellow who was in there to put the rush on. A thirty-two yard kick by Van Heusen.
- 10:19Anderson grabbed the ball at the forty-eight and lunged it back down to the Denver 21 yard line.
- 10:24So the Dolphins have excellent field positions at the 21 in Denver territory.
- 10:30On Anderson's twenty-seven yard punt return, those foot right war field comes to the nearside.
- 10:36Kick and dunk is the setback and behind Bob Greasy.
- 10:40A good rush applied on that punt that time and Anderson got off a low trajectory kick that was not too long.
- 10:46Waiting for the snap at the line of scrimmage.
- 10:48Here's Greasy. Hands to kick, plant in over the left side, inside the twenty he goes, down to the seventeen yard line.
- 10:54Tackle on the play made by middle line backer Fred Forsberg.
- 10:57Gate of the box four, we'll call it second down and sixth.
- 11:02Right out in front of the north goal post, Bob Dolphins, the ball at the Denver seventeen yard line.
- 11:09Rich Jackson defensive left end, Lyle Alvado, rookie from Yankton playing on the other side, Mendencoster the defensive tackle.
- 11:18Out of the hurdle now come the Dolphins, still wide receiver right.
- 11:22Warfields put just a couple of yards to the nearside.
- 11:25Second and sixth from the Denver seventeen yard line.
- 11:29Greasy up under center, calls the signals. Here's the snap, and off to kick.
- 11:34He comes in across the right side, gets to the fifteen yard line.
- 11:37A couple of people jump, there were no flags thrown, and the Denver crowd booing the lack of the yellow flag.
- 11:46Jackson makes the tackle on the play at the Denver fourteen yard line. It'll be a third down and three.
- 11:54The Denver ball club arguing with the referee Tom Bell over the lack of a call on the play.
- 12:00But to no avail. The ball is at the fourteen yard line with a third down and three for the Dolphins.
- 12:07We have seven forty-three left to go in the first quarter.
- 12:09A short kick by Van Huisen, a good return by Dick Anderson, has given the Dolphins excellent field position.
- 12:15So, puts a couple of yards right. Warfield at the nearside, third and three from the Denver fourteen.
- 12:21Here's Greasy dropping straight back to throw, looking for Warfield.
- 12:25Down the near corner, he can't get it, overthrown.
- 12:28Down here at the northwest corner of the field, thought it would be a fourth down coming up,
- 12:33and Garrow Yoprenian comes into the football again.
- 12:36The Dolphins will have a twenty-one yard field goal attempt.
- 12:41It'll be a fourth down and three. Yoprenian is in.
- 12:44Kyle Minnan will hold, and the angle is from the far inbound pass mark.
- 12:50They'll mark it at the twenty-one, and Yoprenian will get his first shot at the field goal attempt this year.
- 12:5622 for 29, the league's most accurate kicker last year.
- 13:01Waiting for the snap from center.
- 13:05Here it is, set down, it kicks it up, and it's good.
- 13:09The Dolphins take the lead, there's a timeout on the field with the score.
- 13:13Dolphins three, the Broncos nothing.
- 13:16Don't get caught with your batteries now.
- 13:21Can you imagine turning on your transistor radios to the biggest ball game of the year,
- 13:27and it won't make a sound? Don't let it happen to you.
- 13:31You better get everything out the light, and the charger.
- 13:37Or you better keep it, because we love, keep it in us.
- 13:43For batteries that last and last and last, radio, cameras, or cassette players,
- 13:49Everready alkaline energizers.
- 13:51They last so long, work so well, they're America's best-selling alkaline batteries.
- 13:57First, because they last.
- 13:59Don't get caught with your batteries now.
- 14:03You better get Everready alkaline energizers, because we love, keep it in us.
- 14:12Everready alkaline energizers.
- 14:20Just before the kickoff, here's Henry Barrow.
- 14:23We had a slight injury to Norm Evans in the spot where we can least afford it.
- 14:26He pulled a muscle on his right side, but he should be able to fly.
- 14:30Dolphins with 7.20 left to go in the first quarter, lead three-nothing on a 21-yard field goal by your Premier.
- 14:36Here is Garrow's kick. It's again high and deep.
- 14:39There will be no runback as Post steals the kickoff, deep in the end zone.
- 14:43And the Broncos, who have been back on their hind legs all throughout this first quarter,
- 14:49will put it in play from their 20-yard line.
- 14:53Dwight Harrison and Jack Gerkey will be the wide receivers.
- 14:56Little and Bob Anderson, the running backs behind quarterback Don Horn.
- 15:06Seven minutes, 15 seconds left to go in period number one.
- 15:10That field goal was keyed by the punt runback by Dick Anderson before his hometown fans.
- 15:16Gerkey, wide to the right, pitch out, goes to Anderson, throws upfield.
- 15:20There's Gerkey, 45, 50, 45 to the 40, knocked down deep in Dolphin territory at the 31-yard line by Jake Schott.
- 15:29Bobby Anderson on a halfback option pass, lost to the ball over the defense down the nearside to Jack Gerkey,
- 15:3668 yards on the pass way, and Schott dragged him down to behind the safety,
- 15:41touched the ground at the Dolphin 32-yard line.
- 15:44So for the first time this afternoon, the Broncos show some offense.
- 15:48It's Bobby Anderson on the halfback option pass, hits Jack Gerkey down the nearside for 68 yards.
- 15:54First and 10, Broncos ball up at Dolphin 32.
- 15:57Harrison, number 82, foot left, Gerkey to the nearside.
- 16:00Anderson a little in behind Horn, waiting for the snap from center from the Dolphin 32-yard line.
- 16:07Here is Horn, dropping back to throw, gets the right, throws, it is caught by Masters,
- 16:11the tight end at the 22-yard line in Dolphin territory, close to a first down tackled by strong safety Dick Anderson.
- 16:19Now they put it down at the 21, so that makes it a first down, 11 yards,
- 16:23as Horn hits Masters with 6-5, 2-40, a five-year veteran from LSU, the tight end.
- 16:30The ball at the Dolphin, 21, first and 10 for the Broncos as they are knocking on the door with 5-55 left to go in the free period.
- 16:38Dolphin threw first flood on a 21-yard field goal by Garrow your premium,
- 16:42set up by a 27-yard punt return by Dick Anderson.
- 16:46The Broncos snap out of the heddle.
- 16:48Here's Gerkey, the wide man to the nearside of the field.
- 16:52Anderson and Little, a setback to behind Horn from the Dolphin 21-yard line,
- 16:57as the Bronx are moving from our left to our right.
- 17:00Flag down, a head off to Little, eludes one tackler coming to the right side,
- 17:03and is tossed for the 25-yard line by left quarterback Tim Foley.
- 17:08But there is a marker on the play, and we'll get the official scrawl in just a moment.
- 17:12It was a loss of 4 yards for Little.
- 17:17A head off side scrawl against the Broncos, declined by the Dolphins.
- 17:22They'll take the down and the loss of the yardage instead.
- 17:25The ball is at the Dolphin 25-yard line, where it'll be a second down and 14.
- 17:31We have 5-29 to go in the free period. Dolphins lead 3-0.
- 17:38Dolphin's defense, Anderson and Scott the safety's and Mumford along with Foley the cornerback.
- 17:44Horn on the left side, Bonaconte and Swift on the right side, the linebackers.
- 17:50Horn back to throw on second and 14, sets up.
- 17:53He hits at the 15, down to the 10, on the completion, down to the 6-yard line.
- 17:59Here's the receiver, Jack Durkey, off the left side.
- 18:03And he was knocked down at the 6-yard line.
- 18:0614 yards on the pass completion.
- 18:09That's what they needed, and they got just enough to get a first down.
- 18:12First and goal as Horn ripped one up the middle against the Miami zone,
- 18:18complete to Durkey, who's been the principal receiver here in this drive.
- 18:22As he's caught two for a total of 82 yards, Durkey switch left.
- 18:27And off to the near side is Harrison, first and goal.
- 18:30Denver down at the Miami 6-yard line.
- 18:33Horn sets his ball club on the snap.
- 18:36Sprinter's right to throw. It is knocked away by Foley.
- 18:39Down at the 4, and a square-out pattern intended for Dwight Harris,
- 18:43who's a rippy wide receiver from Texas A&I.
- 18:46And Foley got a hand on it and knocked it down.
- 18:49Incomplete second down goal from the Gulf and 6-yard line.
- 18:53And a surprising aspect of this is that Horn is coming out and throwing.
- 18:57The Broncos usually prefer to run, and here he gets a first down on the 6 and throws on the first play.
- 19:03This is a different kind of Bronco offense than they have exhibited in their preseason play.
- 19:08He swuts to the far side, Harrison to the near side.
- 19:11The tight end Masters is a strong side to the left.
- 19:14Little and Anderson in behind Horn.
- 19:17Second down and goal from the 6-yard line.
- 19:20On the snap, the hand off to Little over the left side.
- 19:22He gets down to about the 5-yard line.
- 19:24And that's all before the Green Jerseys, led by Manny Fernandez, 75,
- 19:29and John Richardson, number 74, team up to knock him off his feet.
- 19:34They mark the ball down at the 5.
- 19:36It'll be third down and 5 yards to go for a touchdown.
- 19:39Jim Whelan comes in and Masters goes out at tight end.
- 19:43Whelan is a 7-year veteran from Boston College, number 83.
- 19:47Ball right out in front of the goal post down here at the south end of the field.
- 19:51Third down and goal for the Bronx from the Dolphins, 5, with 4-17 left to go in his first period.
- 19:57Harrison splits left.
- 19:58Gertke is the wide man to the near side.
- 20:01Anderson and Little are setbacks behind Horn, waiting for the snap.
- 20:05Here it is, the hand off to Anderson.
- 20:07He is running out to the right going to carry the ball.
- 20:09He is knocked off his feet and to the ground at the 3-yard line down here at the
- 20:15near side, carpentry corner by Dick Anderson.
- 20:18There is the first meeting of the two brothers this afternoon.
- 20:21They needed 5 yards for the touchdown, so the field goal unit comes in.
- 20:25Jim Turner, ex to the New York Jets, will be the kicker and Horn will hold.
- 20:31This will be about a 10-yard attempt, they marked the ball at the near side inbound hash mark.
- 20:37And if he makes it, he can tie it up.
- 20:38He did not have a good preseason.
- 20:40He hit on only 3 out of 12.
- 20:43It will be a 10-yard attempt.
- 20:45Horn will hold.
- 20:47And Jim Turner will try the field goal.
- 20:51Waiting for the snap.
- 20:52Here it is, set down, the kick is up, and it's good.
- 20:55There is a timeout on the field with the score, the Dolphins 3 and the Broncos 3.
- 21:01Winning.
- 21:02Valentine has been with a lot of winners for a lot of years.
- 21:06Like championship baseball teams in both leagues, Valentine was with them as they kept adding up the wins.
- 21:13Winning.
- 21:14Putting in that something extra to stay up on top.
- 21:17We've always done, still do, like Cole doing.
- 21:21Our winners way of making sure Valentine always tastes great.
- 21:26Ice and crack and cold.
- 21:28Greatness?
- 21:29Winners always have it.
- 21:31And at Valentine, we've got a lot of greatness going for us.
- 21:36Get your cold beer.
- 21:38Get your cold-blooded Valentine beer.
- 21:41Taste the beer that's fresh and ice only light.
- 21:44The cold-blooded taste that's the spice of your life.
- 21:47The frosty light, baby.
- 21:48The fresh, fresh flavor.
- 21:51Cold-blooded Valentine beer.
- 21:53Cold-blooded Valentine.
- 21:54Man, we've got a lot of greatness going for us.
- 21:57P. Valentine & Sons, Newark, New Jersey.
- 22:06In the third quarter, friends, it's New Orleans 17, Los Angeles 3.
- 22:11The other major upset of the day occurred when the Patriots defeated the Raiders 20-6.
- 22:16Again, New Orleans 17, Los Angeles 3 in the third quarter.
- 22:20And we'll go to Henry Varo.
- 22:22We've gotten a report on Norm Evans' injuries.
- 22:24Bruised ribs.
- 22:25He'll be able to play the rest of the game.
- 22:27Dave Washington, a linebacker, will kick off number 56 for the Broncos.
- 22:31Mercury Morris back in there to receive the kickoff along with Hubert Ginn.
- 22:35The kick is high and it's deep.
- 22:37And it goes out of the end zone.
- 22:39There'll be no runback.
- 22:41So the Dolphins will bring it out and put it in play at their 20-yard line.
- 22:45All of the Dolphins injured this past week are back in playing form and all ready to go this afternoon,
- 22:51particularly Scott Morris and Bonacati, who've seen considerable action thus far.
- 22:56Dolphins have Stowe and Warfield as the wide receivers.
- 23:01Bob Greasy is the quarterback.
- 23:03Kick in Zonka.
- 23:05Are they running back?
- 23:07And Mark Fleming is the tight end.
- 23:09Dolphins fall from their 20.
- 23:11Short tide, 3-3, 3-14 to go in the first quarter.
- 23:13Handoff to Zonka for the first time this afternoon.
- 23:16He pulls his way straight ahead to the 23-yard line.
- 23:19Lyle Alcato, number 77, the defensive right end makes the stop.
- 23:23Larry, let's get a timeout for our stations along the network.
- 23:27This is the Miami Dolphins football network.
- 23:29Take a break.
- 23:31No wheeling, straight dealing for leasing dependable cars.
- 23:34It's William Lehman leasing 163rd Street, North Miami Beach.
- 23:37Come in and see for yourself.
- 23:39W-I-O-D, Miami.
- 23:41On the huddle now come the Dolphins, second down and 7 from their 23.
- 23:45Warfield splits left and Stowe to the far side.
- 23:48Greasy up under center, barks the signals, drops straight back to throw, gets a good rush.
- 23:53Throws the ball, completes the kick at the 29 and he's wrestled out of bounds.
- 23:57Back at the 27, but they say his former tag has carried him out to the 30-yard line,
- 24:01which will be close to a first down.
- 24:04The tackle on the play made by a right-side linebacker, Dave Washington,
- 24:07a two-year veteran from Alcorn A&M, just a little bit shy on a first down.
- 24:13We'll call it third and one.
- 24:15Greasy completing the kick.
- 24:18Jim Mandich comes in and so goes out, so we've got Fleming and Mandich at the tight ends on third and short yardage.
- 24:24Two minutes, five seconds left to play in this first quarter.
- 24:29Washington is out, Olin Underwood into the linebacker's spot.
- 24:32He wears number 50 for the Broncos.
- 24:35Warfield, a wingman to the left side, third and one for the Dolphins, 29, score tied 3-3.
- 24:42Here's Greasy back to throw, throwing deep for Warfield.
- 24:45He's got it at the 45, down to the 40, and knocked off a speed at the Broncos 35-yard line.
- 24:51Warfield got in behind Thompson and hauled it in.
- 24:54Thompson reacted quickly and brought him down, but Greasy with a third and one,
- 24:58picks up 35 yards to Warfield, a first down at the Broncos 35-yard line.
- 25:03With a minute and 27 seconds left to play in this first quarter.
- 25:07They really faked everybody out in that play, moving in the two tight ends, the fake Duzanka,
- 25:12and Warfield made the one move, one-man coverage, beautiful picture play.
- 25:16So back in, splits to the far side, Warfield at the near side of the field.
- 25:20Duzanka and kicks the setback in behind Greasy.
- 25:24The Dolphins ball at the 35, the handoff, the kick follows, wet blocking straight ahead and gets no place.
- 25:30It was really quick. By number 87, Richard Jackson, the 6-year-old veteran from Southern University.
- 25:37Mark it at the 35, no gain, it'll be second down and 10.
- 25:41Walter Dolphins at the Bronx 35, 45 seconds left to go in the first quarter, the score tied 3-3.
- 25:49The Dolphins a 21-yard drive, and a 21-yard field goal by Eupremian,
- 25:55an 80-yard drive by the Broncos and a 10-yard field goal by Turner.
- 25:58Broncos splits to the far side, Warfield at the near side.
- 26:01Second down and 10 from the Broncos 35.
- 26:05Greasy up on their center, he's got a throw, straight back he goes, gets a right from Jackson,
- 26:10throws a square out, caught by kicks, inside the 30 and is wrestled out of bounds on the far side
- 26:15at the Broncos 26-yard line by linebacker Dave Washington.
- 26:20A gain of about 9 on the play, and they're going to mark it at the 26-yard line.
- 26:26So it'll be about a yard shy in the first down, third and one.
- 26:31We got Jerry Inman, number 62, at a defensive position in the front line, in the ball game for the Broncos.
- 26:42Out of the huddle they come with a third and one at the Denver 26.
- 26:48We've got the tight ends in, Fleming and Mandich, 18 seconds left to play in this first quarter.
- 26:54On third down and one.
- 26:56Greasy hands off the kick, slams it across the left side, he's got the first down.
- 27:01Down to about the 23-yard line.
- 27:03Jim Kickary, tackle on the play made by Lyle Alzato, the Ricky Wright defensive end from Yankton College.
- 27:1013 seconds left to go in this first quarter.
- 27:13A first down for the Dolphins as the ball is at the 23-yard line in Denver territory.
- 27:19Warfield and Stowe are the wide receivers, Kickin' Zonka the running backs, behind Greasy,
- 27:25Maia Fleming the tight end.
- 27:28And there is the end of the first quarter.
- 27:30Dolphin action continues from Mile High Stadium in Denver with the score, Broncos 3 and the Dolphins 3.
- 27:37If you'd like.
- 27:40It is Dallas, the winner of the Buffalo 49-37, Miami meets Buffalo next week.
- 27:44Cleveland over Houston 31-0.
- 27:46New England beat Oakland 20-6.
- 27:48It was Cincinnati 37 and Philadelphia 14, Atlanta 20, San Francisco 17.
- 27:53Giants lead Green Bay 42-31, fourth quarter.
- 27:56Here's Rick.
- 27:57Ready to start the second period.
- 27:58The ball of the Bronx 23, first down, Dolphins.
- 28:01Warfield, switch left, Stowe to the near side.
- 28:03Greasy up under center, waiting for the snap.
- 28:06Here he goes, sprints to his left, sets up his hit and drop.
- 28:09Rick Jackson just about tore his head off on a real fine defensive play.
- 28:16And he beat the blocker, Evans, that time and flattens him out back at the 33-yard line.
- 28:22A loss of 10 on the play.
- 28:24Rick Jackson with an awesome pass right.
- 28:26And Greasy running to his left to go away from Jackson.
- 28:30Got spun anyway.
- 28:31It'll be second down and 20.
- 28:33Dolphins fall at the Broncos 33-yard line.
- 28:37We've just started the second quarter, the third side 3-3.
- 28:40Today, defensive struggle so far.
- 28:43Out of the huddle now, come to Dolphins.
- 28:45Warfield, switch left, Stowe to the near side.
- 28:48Fleming the tight end, strong side right.
- 28:50Kicken, Tonka, the setbacks in behind Greasy.
- 28:53Second down, long yardage.
- 28:54Here's a handoff on the draw to Tonka.
- 28:56He gets no play.
- 28:58Getting it across the right side, waiting for him was number 70, Paul Smith.
- 29:03Left side defensive tackle, 255-pound, four-year veteran from New Mexico.
- 29:08They put the ball at the 34, so he lost the yard.
- 29:10It'll be third down and 21.
- 29:12Rick, this is as good a front four as you will see in professional football.
- 29:16And Rich Jackson is almost unbelievable, even when he does not get in on the play.
- 29:21His presence, everyone is so aware of his presence.
- 29:23On the last dumping of Greasy, he hit Greasy before Warfield had even started his cut.
- 29:28Third down and 21 for the Dolphins at the Broncos 34.
- 29:32Warfield, switch left, Stowe to the near side.
- 29:35Kick and Tonka in behind Greasy.
- 29:39Signals being called, Greasy dropped straight back to throw.
- 29:42Good protection this time.
- 29:43Deep for Warfield, a checker for kick, and it's overthrown, incomplete.
- 29:47Down at the 10-yard line.
- 29:49Staying with him all the way.
- 29:50Good pass coverage by linebacker Chip Myrtle, number 54.
- 29:53Throw of a fourth down situation.
- 29:56Let's see if we've got a little Garrow in there.
- 30:00Yes, he is.
- 30:02And this field goal attempt will be a 41-yarder.
- 30:06Ball is marked from the far inbound hash mark.
- 30:09Noonan will hold, and he's kicking to the south end zone.
- 30:15His first attempt of 21 yards was good.
- 30:17This is a 41-yarder.
- 30:20Waiting for the snap from center.
- 30:22Here it is, set down.
- 30:23The kick is up.
- 30:24He's got the distance, but it's way off to the right side.
- 30:28It's no good.
- 30:30So with 13 minutes and 34 seconds left to play in this second quarter,
- 30:33the score is tied 3-3, and the Broncos will put the ball in play at their 20-yard line,
- 30:39as your penny in misses a 41-yard field goal attempt.
- 30:43There is a timeout on the field with a score, the Dolphins 3 and the Broncos 3.
- 30:52Honey, I guess I better take the car tomorrow.
- 30:54I need to get some antifreeze put in.
- 30:55Oh, I can do it.
- 30:56Oh, darling, I mean, I respect you.
- 30:58I know you mean well, but you think antifreeze is some kind of relative.
- 31:02I mean, you have to know about these things, you know.
- 31:04No, I can do it.
- 31:05Honey, please, antifreeze is a man's job.
- 31:07Oh, come on, I can do it.
- 31:09How? How can you do it?
- 31:10I take the car to Sitgo.
- 31:12I tell the car man I need antifreeze. Simple.
- 31:15Uh-uh. No, no, no, it's not that simple. No.
- 31:17Oh, I get it.
- 31:19You're worried about checking the radiator for leaks and inspecting the radiator connective hoses.
- 31:24Why?
- 31:25Well, I'm conversant on those subjects.
- 31:26You know something? I think you can do it.
- 31:28I can do it.
- 31:29Well, while you're at it, maybe you could wash the car.
- 31:31I can't do that.
- 31:32If your wife is getting smarter about your car, you can thank the car man at Sitgo,
- 31:37whether it's antifreeze or filling up the gas tank.
- 31:40The car man will steer your wife right.
- 31:43This is the car man for every woman at Sitgo.
- 31:52Rick Weaver back at Biohike Stadium in Denver.
- 31:54The Broncos fall at their 20-yard line.
- 31:56A short side, 3-3 as Garrow has just missed a 41-yard field goal attempt.
- 32:01Horn back to throw on first down.
- 32:03Looks for the far sideline.
- 32:04Gurkey's down there.
- 32:05Knocked away.
- 32:06A fine defensive play by strong safety.
- 32:08Dick Anderson sailing high in the air and knocking the ball out of bounds.
- 32:11And set it for wide receiver Jack Gurkey.
- 32:13It'll be a second down and 10.
- 32:15For the Broncos, the ball is their 20.
- 32:17All right.
- 32:18Rick, we can tell you how even this game is by the statistics.
- 32:21Horn and Greci are both 3-for-6 in the passing department.
- 32:25And both teams have two first downs.
- 32:27They had one extra pass before the Broncos.
- 32:29Bobby Anderson completed that big 68-yarder.
- 32:32Even game and they're playing it just that way, just the way we expected.
- 32:35These two strong defensive units.
- 32:37Gurkey out of the hubble, puts it to the far side.
- 32:40Masters is back into the tight end.
- 32:42And they set Harrison as a flat man to the right.
- 32:45Anderson and Little, the setbacks in behind Horn in the eye formation.
- 32:50Second down and 10.
- 32:51Broncos from their 20.
- 32:52Pitch to Little, sweep to the right.
- 32:54He is being pursued.
- 32:55Riley coarse collars him and throws him for a loss out of bounds on the far side of the field.
- 32:59And about the 17-yard line.
- 33:02Jim Riley reacting beautifully on the play.
- 33:05A five-year veteran from Oklahoma, number 70.
- 33:08And it's a loss of three.
- 33:10It'll be a third down coming up and we'll call it 13 for the Broncos from their 17-yard line.
- 33:15The two big plays in this ball game have been performed by the Anderson boys.
- 33:19Bobby with a 68-yard pass to Jack Gurkey for Denver.
- 33:22And Dick with a 27-yard punt return.
- 33:24What set up the Dolphins' first field goal score.
- 33:28Here is Harrison putting off to the far side.
- 33:30Gurkey, the wide man to the near side of the field.
- 33:33Third down and 13.
- 33:34Broncos from their 17-yard line.
- 33:37On the snap.
- 33:38Horn back to throw.
- 33:40He sets up.
- 33:41The right over commits itself.
- 33:43And here's the pass intended down here at the 35 for Gurkey.
- 33:48He had fallen down and Mumford was off the play.
- 33:51The Dolphins' rush finally penetrated the pass protection but it over committed themselves.
- 33:56And Horn was left to the open to throw the ball but it was incomplete.
- 33:59So it'll be a fourth down and Van Heusen comes in to handle the punting chores.
- 34:03Scott will be the deep man and Dick Anderson, the shallow man, will receive the kick.
- 34:08And Heusen, who did one the first time, a 42-yard.
- 34:12The last time he got off that short kick which Anderson ran back 27 yards.
- 34:17Van Heusen will stand back at about the three-yard line.
- 34:20Dolphins in the second quarter moving from our left to our right offensively.
- 34:24Here's the snap.
- 34:25He gets the kick away.
- 34:26He gets a pretty good rush.
- 34:27A high-moving spiral out of there.
- 34:29Scott backs up, grabs the ball at the 28.
- 34:31Comes to the near side.
- 34:32Now reverses the direction.
- 34:33He has hit and dropped at the 32-yard line.
- 34:3652 yards on the punch by Van Heusen.
- 34:40A four-yard return for Jake Scott.
- 34:43Jackets make it five.
- 34:44They'll mark it at the 33-yard line.
- 34:45The tackle was made by Underwood, number 50.
- 34:48So the Dolphins will start from their 33-yard line with 12 minutes, 19 seconds to go in
- 34:54the free pass.
- 34:55The score is tied, three to three.
- 34:58Dolphins have had just a little bit the better-inspired ball control, as concerned, but they have
- 35:03not been able to solve this great pass rush of the Broncos thus far.
- 35:08Warfield's foot left.
- 35:10Here's Greceith.
- 35:11Hands off to kick.
- 35:12Squirts through the middle.
- 35:13Gets out to 35, and that's off.
- 35:15He's slipped up by middle linebacker Fred Forsberg, number 52, a three-year veteran from the University
- 35:20of Washington.
- 35:21Gate of two on the play.
- 35:22It'll be second down at eight.
- 35:24Otto Stowe and Warfield have played the entire ball game thus far at the wide receiver spots.
- 35:30We expect to see some of Howard Twilley against this bump-and-run defense of the Broncos this
- 35:35afternoon.
- 35:36Dolphins put Warfield at the far side, Stowe to the near side.
- 35:40Zonka and kick, the setbacks behind Greceith, from the Dolphins, 35, it's second down at
- 35:45eight.
- 35:46At the line of scrimmage, Greceith barks out the signals.
- 35:49A long count.
- 35:50He hands off to Zonka.
- 35:51Hole in the middle.
- 35:52Rams his way up to the 40-yard line.
- 35:53He's carried a couple of white jerseys with him that time.
- 35:56It's a 237-pound battering ram from Syracuse, knocked to the ground by Rich Jackson and
- 36:02Fred Forsberg.
- 36:03They mark it at the 40.
- 36:05It'll be a third down and three.
- 36:06Dolphins ball at their 40-yard line.
- 36:08Rick, cornerback Bill Thompson of the Broncos, is giving Warfield just no edge at all, lining
- 36:13up and bumping him every play.
- 36:15And there's a whole group of fans here from Miami.
- 36:17They're on the far side of the field with a Go Dolphins sign.
- 36:21Thompson is a big cornerback at 6'1, 2'0'1.
- 36:24Third and three Dolphins from their 40.
- 36:27Warfield, switch left, Stowe to the near side.
- 36:30Greceith, up under center, waiting for the snap from Bob DiMarco.
- 36:35Here he goes.
- 36:36Hand off to Zonka.
- 36:37He's got a hole on the left side and he gets through there, out to the 45 for a first down.
- 36:42Bob Kuchinberg through the block that sprung him.
- 36:45And Charlie Greer of the Strongs' safety, number 24, your veteran from Colorado, makes the
- 36:49tackle.
- 36:50First down for the Dolphins at their 45-yard line.
- 36:54We have 10-17 to go in the first half.
- 36:563-3 the score.
- 36:57Jim Turner a 10-yard field goal, Garry Yopremie in a 21-yarder.
- 37:01And that's been all the scoring.
- 37:03Dolphins first down from their 45.
- 37:06Warfield, switch left.
- 37:08And Stowe just a couple of yards off, right tackle Norm Evans.
- 37:12To the near side.
- 37:14Greceith hands to Zonka, slides off one tackler, cuts back to his left, gets across the line
- 37:19of scrimmage out to the 46-yard line.
- 37:21Rich Jackson, fail to be taken out along with Paul Smith.
- 37:24One surprise thus far in the Dolphin offense.
- 37:27We have yet to see Mercury Morris come in.
- 37:29And we expect to see much more of that today, the use of Morris and or gin on this sliding
- 37:35back offense.
- 37:36But thus far it's been Kick and Zonka all the way.
- 37:38Here's Rick.
- 37:39And the battle has been up front in the pit between the Denver defense and the Miami
- 37:44offensive line and vice versa.
- 37:47Second down and eight.
- 37:48Dolphins fall at their 46.
- 37:50Here's Greceith, hands off, Kick, over the middle, 50 down into Denver territory at the 45.
- 37:56Goes Jim Kick.
- 37:57Great shot blocking up front by the Dolphins front line.
- 38:01Dave Washington, the right linebacker, makes the stop.
- 38:03That's good enough for the Miami first down at the Denver 44-yard line.
- 38:08Nine minutes left to play in this first half of three-to-three contest as they are grinding it out.
- 38:14Here's Warfield out of the huddle, splitting to the far side,
- 38:17stow to the near side of the field.
- 38:18The ball at the Bronco 44-yard line.
- 38:21Kick and Zonka in behind Greceith.
- 38:23Greceith hands off to Zonka, slants over left tackle and carries a couple with him.
- 38:27Down to about the 41-yard line goes Larry Zonka.
- 38:31Kyle Alzado, 252-pound rookie from Yankton, number 77.
- 38:36The right side defensive end makes the stop.
- 38:39Ball at the Denver 41-yard line.
- 38:41It'll be a second down coming up and seven.
- 38:43Now the Dolphins in that familiar ball control pattern.
- 38:46What they hope to do is bring the linebackers up a little and then shoot either stow or Warfield,
- 38:50at least that was the pattern when they tried to do it in preseason and last year when Warfield was here.
- 38:55Thompson laying off Warfield to drop now.
- 38:57Second down, seven.
- 38:58Dolphins at the Bronco 41, Warfield splits left, stow to the near side of the field.
- 39:03As the Dolphins move my left to our right, Greceith throws to the near side,
- 39:07stow, can't hold it at the 36.
- 39:10He curled to the near side and he was hit by the left cornerback, Roy Mitchell,
- 39:14and could not hold out of the football.
- 39:16Incompletion, third down and seven.
- 39:18Dolphins at the Bronco 41.
- 39:20Mitchell on the left cornerback spot was involved in a
- 39:27deal with Houston and Green Bay and came to the Broncos this year from Houston.
- 39:32He is 6'1", 190 pound four-year veteran from Texas Southern.
- 39:36Third down and seven.
- 39:37Dolphins fall at the Bronco 41 yard line.
- 39:40Eight minutes, three seconds to go in this first half.
- 39:42We have a 3-3 score.
- 39:43Warfield splits to the far side, stow to the near side.
- 39:47Greceith has kick and Zontian behind him.
- 39:50Third down and seven.
- 39:52And Fleming jumps outside.
- 39:55Greceith drops back to throw.
- 39:57Flags go down all over the field.
- 39:59Greceith staggering the cadence of the line of scrimmage and we'll see whether
- 40:03Marv was lured off or whether he's just playing jump.
- 40:06Mandich comes into the ball game and Fleming goes out.
- 40:09Settling against the Dolphins for illegal procedure, sets the ball back to the
- 40:13number 46.
- 40:14It'll be a third down and 12.
- 40:16Rick and I and Henry last night were talking with some of the officials and
- 40:20talking about the protection given quarterback.
- 40:22On that play, as soon as the flags were thrown, Tommy Bell jumped right in front
- 40:25of Greceith to prevent any Denver Broncos from hitting him.
- 40:29Jim Mandich, number 88, two-year veteran from Michigan, now playing at tight end
- 40:34for the Dolphins, replacing Fleming.
- 40:37Third down and 12 for the Broncos 46.
- 40:39Warfield splits left, stow to the near side.
- 40:43Greceith up under center calling those signals.
- 40:45Here's the snap.
- 40:46Bob drops back to throw.
- 40:47He's being pursued.
- 40:48Sprint shots was left, now they're still looking for somebody open.
- 40:52Back to the 30 yard line he goes, still running, buckles the ball, and Denver
- 40:56recovered.
- 40:57Back at the Dolphins 24 yard line.
- 41:04Rick Jackson is the guy who got it.
- 41:06Greceith was traveling all over the place.
- 41:08He never did get time to get set up to find anybody open.
- 41:13And he lost the ball and Jackson recovered it.
- 41:16And Denver has possession at the 24 yard line in Dolphins territory.
- 41:22Rick Jackson, awesome again on the rush.
- 41:25Bob dropped back to throw and then got the rush spread to his left.
- 41:28Costa was in on him.
- 41:31That's the third dump for the Denver defense.
- 41:35Out of the huddle now they come.
- 41:37With 7.28 to go and a half.
- 41:38First down at the Dolphins 24.
- 41:41Double wide receivers to the near side are Gerkey and Harrison.
- 41:44Little and Anderson in behind Horn.
- 41:46The Dolphins 24 yard line.
- 41:48Here's the handoff to Little.
- 41:50Plants to the right side and gets about a yard possibly too.
- 41:53Boyd knocked off the feed at about the 22 yard line.
- 41:59Tackle made by Tim Foley.
- 42:01They mark it at the 23 so he got only a yard.
- 42:03It'll be second down and nine.
- 42:06The Redskins have got off to winning ways, beating the Cardinals today in an
- 42:09Eastern Division clash in the NFC.
- 42:11Washington 24, St. Louis 17.
- 42:14And they got a wild one at Green Bay.
- 42:16It's 42 to 40.
- 42:18Giants over the Packers in the fourth quarter.
- 42:20Gerkey splits to the far side.
- 42:22Harrison to the near side of the field.
- 42:23The Dolphins off at 23.
- 42:25Second down and nine.
- 42:26Broncos in possession.
- 42:27Back to throw goes Horn.
- 42:28Sets up.
- 42:29Swings one out to Bob Andrews at 25.
- 42:31That's first right.
- 42:32He's knocked off his feed at the 22 yard line.
- 42:34And they pick up only a yard.
- 42:35Nick Modicani covered the play beautifully.
- 42:38Number 85, a little linebacker for Miami.
- 42:40And they pick up only a yard.
- 42:42On the pass completion, swing pass to Bobby Anderson.
- 42:45It'll be a third down coming up.
- 42:47And we'll call it eighth at the Dolphins 22.
- 42:50As far as both teams are doing a great job containing superstars.
- 42:53Warfield is being bumped.
- 42:54He has not been free except on that 135-yard pass play.
- 42:57And Floyd Little has also not made his presence felt this afternoon.
- 43:00The Dolphin defense stopping him.
- 43:03They spent a lot of time in the huddle now they come out of it.
- 43:05Third down and eight at the Dolphins 22.
- 43:08Harrison, foot to the other side, jerky off to the far side of the eye.
- 43:11Anderson and Little.
- 43:13Here's Horn dropping back to throw.
- 43:15Sets, throws for the far sideline.
- 43:16Cracks by Masters at the tight end.
- 43:19At the 18-yard line.
- 43:20He went up and slanted off.
- 43:22And had his eyes on the end zone.
- 43:24Took his eyes off the football and could not hold onto it.
- 43:27He dropped it.
- 43:29So they're going to have to settle for a field goal attempt.
- 43:31The ball at the 22-yard line at Miami territory.
- 43:35Let's see if they are going to go for a field goal.
- 43:38Turner is in, number 15.
- 43:40This will be a 31-yard attempt.
- 43:43The ball is marked on the viewside, inbound pass mark.
- 43:46Turner has a 10-yard field goal in the ball game.
- 43:48Horn will hold.
- 43:50And they're going to put it down at the 29-yard line.
- 43:57Waiting for the snap.
- 43:58Here it is.
- 43:59Set down.
- 44:00The kick is up.
- 44:01And it's going to be no good.
- 44:02Off to the left.
- 44:04Each club has missed a field goal attempt.
- 44:06And the Dolphins came out of that one smelling like a rose.
- 44:09After that fumble recovery gave Denver excellent field position.
- 44:12A missed field goal attempt by Turner.
- 44:14There's a timeout on the field with a score of Miami 3, Denver 3.
- 44:22You heard Household Finance say,
- 44:24a good reason for borrowing is a good reason for lending.
- 44:28But what is a good reason for borrowing?
- 44:30The answer is any money need that's truly important.
- 44:34Maybe that's clearing up bills, paying for the kids' braces,
- 44:37meeting an installment contract.

- 45:07At Household Finance, you may borrow up to $600
- 45:10and choose from a wide variety of repayment plans.
- 45:13HFC has offices in all the principal cities throughout Florida.
- 45:22At Chicago, the Bears have gone ahead of the Steelers in the fourth quarter, 17 to 15.
- 45:28This knockdown drag out, the Dolphins go back in play at the 20, and here's Rick Weaver.
- 45:33Zorker catches a slap man to the right side.
- 45:35So does the wide receiver, slip right, and Warfield at the far side.
- 45:38Kick in behind Greasy from the Dolphins' 20-yard line.
- 45:42First down off that missed field goal attempt by Turner.
- 45:44Hand off to Kick.
- 45:45Going to hold the left side out across the 25.
- 45:47Knocked off his feet at the 30-yard line.
- 45:49Jim Kick slamming it across the left side.
- 45:52Got a good block from Doug Foussan and Bob Kuchenberg.
- 45:55That is good for a first down.
- 45:57Ten yards on the pickup out to the 30.
- 45:59The tackle by free safety George Sames, nine-year veteran from Michigan State.
- 46:03That is the fifth first down of the ballgame for Miami.
- 46:07Five minutes, 19 seconds to go in the first half.
- 46:09The score is tied 3-3.
- 46:11Warfield splits to the far side, still to the near side.
- 46:14Zorker slap man to the near side of the field.
- 46:17First and ten Dolphins from their 30-yard line.
- 46:20Here is Greasy dropping back to throw.
- 46:23Good protection this time.
- 46:24Set up going deep down the far side and Warfield is bumped out.
- 46:27Interference is going to be called.
- 46:29And the flag was tossed at the 50-yard line.
- 46:33That was as obvious an interference as you will see.
- 46:36The ball was clearly in midair and Warfield had trips, gotten up, bumped once,
- 46:40and then was just pushed out of bounds by Thompson.
- 46:43A clear interference, the referee right the sidelines and right on top of the play,
- 46:47and it's a Dolphin first down.
- 46:49Offensive interference gives the Dolphins, or check it,
- 46:52the defensive interference gives the Dolphins a first down at the midfield stripe.
- 46:55Thompson, number 36, off their bump and run defense,
- 46:58was all over Warfield that time and a good call by the officials.
- 47:01First down at the midfield stripe for Miami with five minutes and one second left to play in this first half.
- 47:07DeFremme in the 21-yard field goal, Turner a ten yarder.
- 47:10Maybe missed one also, so it's a three-and-three ball game.
- 47:14Zonka, flat man to the right, still to the near side, Warfield, wide receiver, split left.
- 47:18Kick and behind Greasy from the midfield stripe, waiting for the snap.
- 47:23Kick goes in motion, here's the pick, the kick sweep to the right,
- 47:26cuts in over right end and gets down to about the 47-yard line in Bronco territory.
- 47:31Left quarterback LeRoy Mitchell makes the stop.
- 47:34LeRoy, Larry Little was out in front that time trying to open a hole,
- 47:38gave it three and it'll be second down and seven.
- 47:41Dolphins ball at the Denver 47, this has been a defensive struggle.
- 47:47The Bears, the one they're open to today, they have beaten the Steelers coming from behind to do it.
- 47:51Chicago 17, Pittsburgh 15.
- 47:53Warfield out of the huddles, splits to the far side, still on the near side,
- 47:56kicking Zonka to setbacks in behind Greasy.
- 47:58Second down, seven, Dolphins from the Bronco 47-yard line, 420, left to play in the first half.
- 48:04The handoff goes to Zonka, sweep to the right, down the midside, 40, 35,
- 48:08and run out of bounds at the Denver 33-yard line.
- 48:12LeRoy Mitchell ran about, Zonka found a hole that time and cut just at the precise moment he needed to,
- 48:18and got outside, got the corner turned down the near sideline,
- 48:21and runs the ball to the Denver 33-yard line.
- 48:25A pick up of about 14, a first down for Miami at the Bronx 33.
- 48:33We have a final of Green Bay, Rick.
- 48:35The Giants have held on and won it, New York 42, Green Bay 40.
- 48:42Basketball season coming in a little early.
- 48:45All right, first and 10, Dolphins at the Bronco 33-yard line,
- 48:49still split to the near side of the field.
- 48:51Greasy, flags will go down as the handoff goes to Zonka,
- 48:55plants off the left side and gets to the line that's coming to that stall.
- 48:58That was a flip-straw on that time. Jackson and Smith, along with Thompson over there,
- 49:03makes a tackle, little or no gain on the play.
- 49:08And we'll see who the penalty is going to be against, apparently against the Dolphins.
- 49:15Five yards, sets the ball back to the 39-yard line, illegal procedure against Miami,
- 49:21using the call. It'll be a first down and 15, Jim Mendich has come in the lineup at tight end.
- 49:28Ball to Dolphins, the ball back at the, put it down at the 39-yard line of Bronco territory.
- 49:344-10 to go on the free staff. Let's get out of Henry.
- 49:37That was called on Norm Evans. He drew Rich Jackson offside.
- 49:40All right, Warfield, foot to the left and still to the near side.
- 49:43First and 15, Dolphins from the Denver 39-yard line.
- 49:47Receive, takes the handoff play, action pass, sprints to his right, ducks away from the right,
- 49:51still ducking and is finally back down, back at the 44-yard line.
- 49:55It'll be a loss of about five on the play. They come and they come and they come.
- 50:01Tackle finally made by Dave Costas. He's ducked away from the right,
- 50:04ducked underneath the clothesline attempt, and managed to get back where it would have been,
- 50:09about a 10-yard loss. That's the fourth dump for the Denver defense.
- 50:15And it'll be a second down coming up and 21 for the Dolphins.
- 50:19The ball at the Bronco 44 with 3.54.
- 50:22Left to go on this first half of 3-3 defensive struggle.
- 50:26Both defenses have been excellent.
- 50:29We'll talk more about the Denver defense because they've had a stronger pass, right?
- 50:34We've got double wide receivers for the far side, Warfield and Stills.
- 50:38On second down, Longyardy, 21 from the Bronco 44.
- 50:43Greasy, Barks got those signals.
- 50:47Flags go down as he took too long.
- 50:49There's a handoff going to Zonker.
- 50:51Client is planted over the left side, gets a corner turn, and he did not get the job done.
- 50:55Defense failing to yield. Dave Washington, the right-side linebacker,
- 50:58right into the ground at the 45, a loss of about a yard, but there was a flag on the play.
- 51:03And I think the Dolphins took too much time getting the ball in play.
- 51:07They put the ball back at the Denver 49.
- 51:09A layup game as the call, five yards against Miami.
- 51:13Greasy's been going long at the line of scrimmage on the count.
- 51:18At that time, it cost them.
- 51:19Second down and 26.
- 51:20The ball at the Denver 49.
- 51:22The Dolphins moving in the opposite direction where they want to go.
- 51:293.25. Left to play in the first half, 3-3 to score.
- 51:32Second down, 26 at the Bronx, 49.
- 51:35Double wide receivers to the far side are Warfield and Stowe.
- 51:39Kick in Zonker and behind Greasy.
- 51:41Greasy on the snap, Prince back to his left.
- 51:43That's the draw. Wobbly pass, far sideline.
- 51:45Warfield makes the catch at the 30-yard line, knocked out of bounds on the far side at the 29.
- 51:50He beats Thompson on the play, leaps high in the air in front of him.
- 51:5321 yards on the pass completion.
- 51:55That is still a five-yard, approximately five-yard shy of what they need for a first down.
- 52:01Greasy to Warfield for 21.
- 52:02The ball is marked at the Denver 29.
- 52:04It'll be a third down and we'll call it six for accuracy's sake.
- 52:08As the lead yard marker, it's about the 23-yard line.
- 52:13Let's go to Henry.
- 52:14On that previous play where Zonker carried the ball and there was a flag,
- 52:16Alzato, the defensive end, was warned about hitting late.
- 52:19We'll keep an eye on him.
- 52:20Warfield's foot's left, Stowe to the near side.
- 52:23Third down and six. Dolphins at the Bronco, 29.
- 52:27Waiting for the snap from center.
- 52:29Here's Greasy dropping straight back to throw.
- 52:32Throws up the middle. It is dropped by Kik.
- 52:35Down at the 15-yard line.
- 52:37Good defense by the Broncos.
- 52:38Dave Washington and Charlie Greer, linebacker and strong safety, respectively,
- 52:44worked on Kik that time and knocked the pass away.
- 52:46It'll be fourth down and six.
- 52:48And your premier is in to try his third field goal attempt.
- 52:52He's one for two thus far.
- 52:54Baltimore has gone ahead of the jet.
- 52:56Ten-nothing. They're playing in the second quarter at Baltimore.
- 52:58Baltimore, ten, New York, nothing.
- 53:00This'll be a 36-yard attempt.
- 53:02Newton will hold from the far inbound hash mark.
- 53:05Burrow has kicked the 21-yarder and has missed the 41-yarder.
- 53:09Stowe's tied three to three.
- 53:11Waiting for the snap.
- 53:13Step down. Here's the kick. It is up.
- 53:15And it is no good.
- 53:18No good.
- 53:20And so your premier is one for three in the field goal department.
- 53:23The score remains tied three to three.
- 53:25There's a timeout on the field.
- 53:27The score, Miami three, Denver three.
- 53:29Don't get caught with your batteries now.
- 53:33How would you like to settle down with your cassette player some evening
- 53:37for a couple of hours of good music, press the button, and nothing comes out?
- 53:42Listen.
- 53:44You better get everybody out tonight.
- 53:47Energizer.
- 53:49You might as well become the last speaker tonight.
- 53:55For batteries that last and last and last in your cassette players, radios, or cameras,
- 54:01get Ever Ready alkaline energizers.
- 54:03They last so long, work so well, they're America's best-selling alkaline batteries.
- 54:09First, because they last.
- 54:11Don't get caught with your batteries now.
- 54:15You better get Ever Ready alkaline energizers.
- 54:21Ever Ready alkaline energizers.
- 54:27Right up on timeout.
- 54:33So the Broncos set to put it in play on their 20.
- 54:35This is a familiar story, this ball game, back in play at the 20.
- 54:38And here's Rick.
- 54:39Don Horne, the quarterback, has Little and Anderson, the running backs.
- 54:42Durkee and Harrison are the wide receivers.
- 54:44They put the near side of the field.
- 54:46Jim Whalen, number 83, is the tight end.
- 54:48On the 20-yard line, handoff to Little.
- 54:51They have contained him and they did it again.
- 54:53Knocked him flat at the 19-yard line.
- 54:55He's trying to get in over the left side.
- 54:57And the Broncos running attack.
- 54:59And their offensive line's blocking as that looked too good this afternoon.
- 55:03A loss of a yard.
- 55:05As the tackle was made by Bill Stansel, number 84, the Dolphins' right defensive end.
- 55:10No wheeling, straight dealing.
- 55:13For used cars, it's William Lehman used cars, Northeast 167th Street, North Miami Beach.
- 55:17Come in and see for yourself.
- 55:19WIOD Miami.
- 55:23At the 37-yard line, Lloyd Pumphord is the man who contained him.
- 55:28Jake Scott also coming over to help out, along with Dick Anderson.
- 55:3118 yards on the path for Pleacons.
- 55:34As we get the two-minute warning, it'll be a first down when time is in for the Broncos at their 37-yard line.
- 55:40The two-minute warning timeout's at shore, Miami 3, Denver 3.
- 55:45It can be downright discouraging.
- 55:47You've been waiting for hours.
- 55:49So it seems for that bite on your line, and then in one explosive moment, your line comes alive.
- 55:55And as your heart pounds, you try to reel it in.
- 55:57Your prize catch has other ideas.
- 55:59He runs and you give line. The battle is on.
- 56:02Now this is the one you've been waiting for.
- 56:04And he's a big one.
- 56:06He breaks water and you know you've got to have him.
- 56:09And then you don't want to believe it,
- 56:12but your reel has developed too much drag and your line goes taut.
- 56:16Zap! He got away.
- 56:19Heartbreaking? You bet it is.
- 56:22Now if that's ever happened to you, then you know the feeling of utter frustration.
- 56:25But next time, you'll be ready with a Spin Master Reel with the slickest, most positive,
- 56:32multiple disc drag system yet designed, with alternating drag discs of stainless steel and oiled felt.
- 56:38Spin Master Reels, designed in Florida for Florida fishing.
- 56:42Spin Master.
- 56:44One, take the list out of the way.
- 56:47Wow!
- 56:51Bob Hynes is in a defensive tackle now, number 72, 270 pound,
- 56:55three-year veteran from the University of the Pacific for the Dolphins.
- 56:58And he can go both ways as of this week,
- 57:01with the tackle situation being what it is on the Dolphin Ball Club, particularly on the offensive line.
- 57:07We have a minute and 53 seconds on the board, showing left in the first half.
- 57:10Broncos ball at their 37, they split Gertie off to the far side, Harrison to the near side.
- 57:15Or in the quarterback. He is 7 for 10 in the passing department.
- 57:19Back to throw he goes. That's a right pick up by Bonacani.
- 57:2240, 35, down to the 30, fumbles the ball. Who's going to get it in this play, too?
- 57:27Denver recovers.
- 57:30I believe Floyd Lindley's the man who got the football.
- 57:32That's who it is, number 44.
- 57:34Bonacani picked off the wobbly pass as the Dolphins put on a great rush that time on Horn.
- 57:41And Nick, I would imagine, occasioned by that cast that he's wearing,
- 57:46couldn't hold onto the ball when he was hit, and Floyd Little recovered so the Bronx get it back at their 22.
- 57:52Boy, if the Dolphins could have held onto that one, we could have gone into the dressing room with some kind of a lead.
- 57:57Bob Matheson comes in, replaces Bonacani at the middle linebacker's spot.
- 58:02Matheson acquired a couple of weeks ago from the Brown, 6'4", 240, five-year veteran from Duke.
- 58:09Horn has Harrison's foot to the left, Gertrude to the right, hand off to Little, strides his way in the middle.
- 58:14He is hit and contained at the 23, the 24-yard line.
- 58:19Game of about two. They have really held him in check so far this afternoon.
- 58:24A game of two on the play. It'll be second down and eight as Matheson and the center of the defensive line in on the stop.
- 58:33I don't think Lou Saban's going to let Horn know so much.
- 58:37He's got a minute left to play in this first half, and he does not want to risk another one of those interceptions.
- 58:41The defense there was red perfectly. Bonacani sticking in the zone, and no one was near Nick.
- 58:46Gertrude and Harrison sweat off the right side.
- 58:50Second down and eight. Denver's ball at their 24 with 45 seconds left to play in the first half.
- 58:55Here's Horn. Play action. Swings one out.
- 58:58Brought by Harrison to 20. He's clipped. Gets away one tack. Request to 25.
- 59:02And it's dragged to the ground at the 34-yard line by quarterback Kim Foley.
- 59:07And they'll mark the ball at about the 34.
- 59:10Twelve yards on the pass completion. We get a timeout call by the Broncos to stop the clock.
- 59:16With 30 seconds showing on the board, left to play in this first half.
- 59:20Had a good 41st down. A swing pass to the far side to Dwight Harrison, the rookie receiver from Texas A&I,
- 59:27who's astounded some of the defenses that he faced in the preseason.
- 59:31Young man is a great jumper and holds all of the pass-catching records in the history of Texas A&I.
- 59:39The key that's far on both sides, the Broncos have been able to pass Rush most successfully.
- 59:46They have dumped Greasy four times, one time resulting in a fumble.
- 59:50And have contained Warfield fairly well, although Paul has caught two, one for 35 and one for 30.
- 59:56That keeps him high on the average per catch, but they've bumped and run with him very successfully today.
- 1:00:01And the Dolphins have done a great job in containing Floyd Little, forcing Horn to pass more than he would like to.
- 1:00:06Don is 6-4-12, Greasy 4-4-8. The Broncos have five first downs, and their point now with 30 seconds left
- 1:00:13is to make some attempt to get in the field goal range with Turner.
- 1:00:18Finds it out, and we've got the...
- 1:00:24Get a linebacker in, Matheson is in.
- 1:00:26Still have a three-man rush up there now. A three-man defense is in.
- 1:00:30Down the Denver 34, Horn back to throw, sets up, swings one out, Anderson catches the ball,
- 1:00:36falls down back to the 30, gets up and is knocked off his feet at about the 31-yard line.
- 1:00:42Anderson lost his footing. Jim Riley is the man who contained him at the 31, and the timeout is called by Denver.
- 1:00:49That's a loss of three yards on the play, and with 22 seconds left to go in the half,
- 1:00:55the second down is coming up at about 13 yards. Jesse Powell, number 56,
- 1:01:02now Denver plays for Collins, and the defensive alignment for the Dolphins.
- 1:01:09Powell, the second leading tackler behind Boticotti in three seasons for Miami.
- 1:01:15Jesse, three-year veteran from West Texas State.
- 1:01:19Now at the 30-and-a-half yard line, it'll be second down at 13 when time is in for the Broncos.
- 1:01:2522 seconds left to go in the first half.
- 1:01:27The Premier has a 21-yard field goal, has missed two others.
- 1:01:30Turner, a 10-yarder, and has missed one other.
- 1:01:33And the score stand right now at three to three.
- 1:01:36Broncos, out of the huddle, have Gurkey off to the right side, and Harrison's split left.
- 1:01:41Anderson, and a little behind Horn. Horn back to throw, throws the ball down the near side.
- 1:01:47Harrison down there picked off by Mumford.
- 1:01:50They rule it an incomplete forward pass, as Mumford was out of bounds at the 35
- 1:01:56when he intercepted the pass. It was intended for Harrison.
- 1:01:59That stops the clock with 16 seconds left to go in the first half.
- 1:02:03And there'll be a third down at 13 for the Broncos from their 30-and-a-half yard line.
- 1:02:09The rush by the Dolphins this afternoon has been good at times.
- 1:02:19They have not dumped the quarterback, but they have forced him to throw off his line
- 1:02:23and hurry the pass on several occasions, jerking splits right, and Harrison to the near side.
- 1:02:29Here's the handoff a little. The sweep to the right side, touchback to his left,
- 1:02:32gets out to the 35 of the 36-yard line before he has knocked off his feet.
- 1:02:37Nine seconds, as Miami calls a timeout. Nine seconds left to play in the first half.
- 1:02:43And they did not make the yardage they needed for the first down.
- 1:02:46So the Dolphins want to get the time to get Scott back there and get set
- 1:02:51for what they're going to do on this front situation as Van Heusen is in.
- 1:02:56Ball is at the Broncos' 36-yard line, and Scott will be the deep receiver
- 1:03:01with Dick Anderson, the shallow man.
- 1:03:03Anderson ran a short punt back by Van Heusen in the first quarter, 27 yards,
- 1:03:07to set up your premium field goal.
- 1:03:12We have just nine seconds to go on this first half.

- 1:03:42And there's the end of the first half. What's the score?
- 1:03:45The Dolphins three Denver three.
- 1:03:48We'll be back with the halftime comment.
- 1:03:52And really boomed one that almost got it up into the stands in the first half.
- 1:03:56The first half will kick off. He's a linebacker and the kickoff is tight for the Broncos.
- 1:04:02We've got Mercury Morris deep down the near side,

- 1:04:09The score tied 3-3.
- 1:04:11The Dolphins will be moving from my left to our right for the third quarter.
- 1:04:15The kick is high, deep. There will be no run back as Ginn feels the kickoff
- 1:04:19back on the baseline of the end zone.
- 1:04:21So the Dolphins will put it in play at their 20-yard line.
- 1:04:25And setting the offense for you, Bob DiMarco will be the center,

- 1:05:01was the man who made the initial contact.

- 1:05:08Dolphins fall at their 21-yard line.
- 1:05:11A tremendous defensive struggle.

- 1:05:20Stowe splits to the near side. Warfield off to the far side of the field.
- 1:05:23Second and nine. Dolphins fall at their 21-yard line.
- 1:05:26Greasy up under center, barks those signals.

- 1:05:41The tackle made by Rich Jackson coming across.
- 1:05:44Let's get a station break along the line. This is the Miami Dolphins football network.
- 1:05:48No wheeling, straight dealing for used cars.
- 1:05:52This is William Lehman used car in South Dixie Highway, South Miami.
- 1:05:55Come in and see for yourself. W-I-O-D, Miami.
- 1:05:58So Jim Kick continues his effective running.
- 1:06:01Kickenzonka, the running story this afternoon.
- 1:06:03The Denver Broncos specially shut out in that department. Here's Rich.
- 1:06:06They put it at the 31-yard line. Dolphins first down.
- 1:06:09We've got Butch Bird in, replacing Thompson at the right corner.
- 1:06:13As he was injured on that last play.
- 1:06:15From the Dolphins 31-yard line, here's a handoff. Zonka, boom, through the middle, gets to the 35.
- 1:06:20Larry Zonka ripping off four yards before he's knocked off his feet.
- 1:06:25It'll be a second down and six.
- 1:06:27Tackle on the play made by Butch Bird, who just came in the ball game.
- 1:06:30Defensively for the Broncos, Jackson and Alzato at the end.
- 1:06:35Smith and Cost for the tackles. Myrtles, Forsberg and Washington the linebackers.

- 1:06:55Check it. Zonka, the ball carrier, gets to about the 38-yard line.
- 1:06:59As Paul Smith, the left side defensive tackle, makes the stop on the play.
- 1:07:03They mark it up the 38-yard line. It'll be a third down coming up for Miami.
- 1:07:09And about three and a half yards to go. We'll call it three for accuracy's sake.
- 1:07:15Third and three, Dolphins ball at their 38.
- 1:07:1821-yard field goal in the first period by Galloway, a premier to 10-yard by Jim Turner.
- 1:07:22And that's been all the scoring.
- 1:07:24Warfield, foot left, so to the near side. Zonka and Kicken behind Greasy.
- 1:07:28Third down and three, Dolphins from their 38.
- 1:07:31Greasy, box those signals out. Hands off. Zonka is hit.
- 1:07:35The line is coming. He puts his head down. He goes across the 40-45, still digging.
- 1:07:40And he's got the first down. Larry Zonka with a great effort.
- 1:07:43As Leroy Mitchell, the left quarterback, came up the container.
- 1:07:46Well, let's see if they're going to mark it.
- 1:07:48That's going to be good enough for a first down.
- 1:07:51There is a timeout as a Dolphin is shaken up on the play.
- 1:07:55Let's get down to Henry Barrow.
- 1:07:56Bob DiMarco, the center, is the injured player on the field. We're checking it now.
- 1:08:00Jim Langer will come into the offensive lineup.
- 1:08:03Langer backs up at both yards and at offensive center.
- 1:08:08They put the ball out at the 46-yard line. A first down for the Dolphins when time is in.
- 1:08:14The score is tied 3-3. Here's Larry King.
- 1:08:17That appears to be his knee. They've taken an official timeout.
- 1:08:19We'll be back in a moment. Dolphin football action continues from Denver with a score Miami 3, Denver 3.
- 1:08:25Don't get caught with your batteries now.
- 1:08:30Did you hear about the guy who waited 11 months to take movies of his kids' first steps and the camera wouldn't work?
- 1:08:38You know what he forgot?
- 1:08:40You better get ready, Alpha Line Energizer.
- 1:08:46Because they last.
- 1:08:49Because they last.
- 1:08:52For batteries that last and last and last in cameras, radios, or cassette players, get ever ready, Alpha Line Energizers.
- 1:09:00They last so long, work so well, they're America's best-selling Alpha Line batteries.
- 1:09:06First, because they last.
- 1:09:08Don't get caught with your batteries now.
- 1:09:12You better get ready, Alpha Line Energizer.
- 1:09:18Because they last.
- 1:09:21Ever ready, Alpha Line Energizers.
- 1:09:29DeMarco has been played by...
- 1:09:31Bob DeMarco is being aided off the field and he would certainly appear at this juncture to be through for the afternoon.
- 1:09:36And that knee appears in pretty bad shape. We'll get a report from Henry.
- 1:09:39Another major upset today at New Orleans. The Saints have beaten the Rams.
- 1:09:43New Orleans 24, Los Angeles 20. The Dolphins have their ninth first down.
- 1:09:47Here's Rick. Ball at the Dolphin 46, Jim Langer, making his debut at offensive center.
- 1:09:53Warfield splits to the far side. First down, Dolphins at their 46-yard line.
- 1:09:58Resee up under center, calls the signals. Hands to Zonka, slides off a tackler coming right, puts his head down and ramps his way to the 50-yard line.
- 1:10:06Larry Zonka, the Big Bull from Syracuse, 237 pounds. Dave Costa and George Same.
- 1:10:13Right side defensive tackle and free safety. George Same's team up to make the stop at the 50. Gain up four.
- 1:10:20And it'll be a second down coming up and six for the Dolphins at the midfield stripe.
- 1:10:25They have running room, playing room off to the far side. The ball marked on the near side inbound hash mark.
- 1:10:2911-08 to go in the third quarter. Score tied, 3-3. Warfield is the wide man to the left side.
- 1:10:36They've got Stowe setting in tight. From the midfield stripe, second down and six.
- 1:10:42Here's the snap. Hand off the kick. Quick opener in the middle, puts his head down and bangs his way across to 45.
- 1:10:48Down to about the 44-yard line. In the Denver territory, Rich Jackson makes the stop on the play.
- 1:10:54And they say his forward progress might have carried him to the 43. It's close enough for a measurement.
- 1:10:58They'll bring the change up to the far side. And it looks from here as if he's got a first down.
- 1:11:03The secondary now, the cornerbacks are coming back off Warfield and Stowe.
- 1:11:09Expecting here, Greasy to mix up this rushing play. The Dolphins have gotten a first down, as Rick told you.
- 1:11:14They're tenths of the afternoon. The Broncos have five. Dolphins have been ball controlling it.
- 1:11:19The weakness has been when they go to the pass and this pass rush. But the running offense of Miami has just been superb.
- 1:11:25Here's Rick. The ball at the Broncos, 43-yard line. First down, Miami. Warfield.
- 1:11:31Splits to the far side. Stowe is split to the near side and kicks such as a slack man to the right. Zonka in behind Greasy.
- 1:11:39First and 10 from the 43-yard line. Hand off to Zonka. Trap in the middle. He's across to 40.
- 1:11:4435 down to the 34-yard line. Norm Evans threw a great block to spring Larry loose that time.
- 1:11:50George Saims, the free safety, makes the stop on the play. That is close to another first down, but not quite.
- 1:11:57It'll be second down and a yard. The ball at the Denver 34-yard line. Out of the huddle come the Dolphins.
- 1:12:05As Greasy keeping the football on the ground, Warfield splits left. Stowe to the near side. Zonka and kick.
- 1:12:11In behind Greasy from the Broncos, 34-yard line. Second down and one. Here's the snap. The hand off to kick.
- 1:12:18Follows Zonka. He's got the first down. Over left guard to the 30-yard line. Rich Jackson makes the tackle for Denver.
- 1:12:25And the Dolphins have used five and a half minutes thus far with the opening kickoff of the second half.
- 1:12:30Henry, do we have a report or anything on DeMarco?
- 1:12:33They're still working on it. We'll have that report in a couple of minutes.
- 1:12:36Jim Langer is doing a great job at the offensive center in the blocking department. The ball up the Denver 30-yard line.
- 1:12:42A first down for the Dolphins. 9-16. Left to go in the third quarter. Score tied 3-3. Dolphins out of the huddle.
- 1:12:49They set Warfield wide to the far side. Stowe to the near side as they drive from our left to our right here.
- 1:12:54Greasy calls the signals. Hands off. The kick follows his blocking. He's through the right side down to the 25-yard line.
- 1:13:01Goes Jim Kick. Tackle made by free safety George Sames and Charlie Greer. The front safety.
- 1:13:07The ball up the Denver 25 is this fine offensive blocking up there in the front line for the Dolphins.
- 1:13:13Chewing up yardage and chewing up time. It's a second down and five. The ball up the Denver 25-yard line.
- 1:13:19Out of the huddle now come the Dolphins. Warfield splits to the far side and Stowe is not split at all.
- 1:13:26Just about a yard off Norm Evans to the right side. Second and five from the Bronco 25-yard line.
- 1:13:32Here's Greasy on the snap. The kick threads his way across left guard and gets only a couple down to about the 23.
- 1:13:38Rick Jackson threw his 255 pounds into the breach and made the initial contact at the 23-yard line.
- 1:13:44A gain of two. It'll be third down and three coming up with eight minutes and 14 seconds.
- 1:13:49Here is DeMarco back into the ball game. Under his own steam Langer goes out and he did a fine job filling in an offensive center.
- 1:13:56DeMarco is back in.
- 1:13:59And Rick, I apparently am not the best medical observer.
- 1:14:02When I said that I thought Bob would be through for the day the way he went off the field, but he is back.
- 1:14:06Henry, it's a bruise of the bone below the knee. That's why he's able to play.
- 1:14:11The ball at the Denver 23, third down and three, Dolphins.
- 1:14:15Warfield, switch left. Stowe to the near side. Kick and Zonke in behind Greasy.
- 1:14:20Waiting for DeMarco's snap.
- 1:14:23Long count at the line of scrimmage.
- 1:14:26And we get a flag down. The Dolphins took too much time as Greasy was dropping back to throw.
- 1:14:30And that's the second delay of game if that's what they're going to call it.
- 1:14:34Flag was thrown and a five yard penalty will be marched off against the Dolphins for taking too much time to get the ball in play.
- 1:14:42Marks it back to the 28 yard line. Is that a third and three? It'll be third and eight.
- 1:14:47Rick, I think Bob was trying to draw them off.
- 1:14:49Third and three was giving a very long cadence count, but the Bronco front four, one of the best in football, did not go for it.
- 1:14:55They have been tough. That Denver defense down inside their 30 yard line this afternoon.
- 1:15:00Score tied 3-3, 7-35 to go in the third quarter.
- 1:15:03Dolphins from the Bronco, 28, third down and eight.
- 1:15:07Wide to the nearside, Stowe, Warfield splits left.
- 1:15:10Here's Greasy. Back to throw. Bing for Super. Jackson throws down the nearside.
- 1:15:14Stowe can't get it.
- 1:15:16Fly defensive play by left cornerback Leroy Mitchell who had him covered like a blanket all the way.
- 1:15:21And the pass is incomplete. Jackson put on a tremendous right that time.
- 1:15:26And Greasy looked to the left and threw down here on the nearside.
- 1:15:31Falls a little bit off target. So it's a field goal situation.
- 1:15:35With a fourth down situation from the 28 yard line in Denver territory, a Premier will try a 35 yard kick.
- 1:15:43Noonan will hold. There is no angle.
- 1:15:46They're just about right out in front of the southern goal post.
- 1:15:50Garrow is one for three in the field goal department this afternoon.
- 1:15:53Waiting for the snap. Here it is, set down. The kick is up.
- 1:15:57He's got the distance. It is no good.
- 1:16:02And Garrow having a little problem this afternoon, now one for four.
- 1:16:07He had no angle at all on that one.
- 1:16:10There's a timeout on the field with the score Miami 3 Denver 3.
- 1:16:15To be a winner, you have to do something extra.
- 1:16:18But first you need the basics. And in beer that means quality ingredients.
- 1:16:23Carefully selected barley malt, premium hops, purest water, the finest yeast.
- 1:16:29But at Ballentine, we do more than buy quality, we brew it.
- 1:16:33It's our extra step, whole brewing, that makes sure every glass full tastes great.
- 1:16:39Ice crackling cold.
- 1:16:42With all our extras, we've got a lot of greatness going for us.
- 1:16:46Hey, dip your cold beer, dip your cold brewed Ballentine beer. Taste the beer that's crisp and icily light.
- 1:16:54It's a cold brew taste that's precisely right. Frosty, lively, crystalline, glint, the crisp, refreshing cold brewed Ballentine beer.
- 1:17:05Cold brewed Ballentine. Man, we've got a lot of greatness going for us.
- 1:17:10It's the Ballentine and Sons Newark, New Jersey.
- 1:17:17So the Dolphins again fail, and again Garrel fails in a tough afternoon for the little one.
- 1:17:24Here's Rick Weaver as the Broncos put it in play on their 20.
- 1:17:27Seven minutes, 25 seconds to play in the third quarter.
- 1:17:30Three to three score. Dwight Harrison splits right.
- 1:17:32Brett Gertke left. In the eye formation, the setbacks behind quarterback Don Horn are Floyd Little and Bob Anderson.
- 1:17:38From the Bronco 20-yard line. First down. Here's the snap.
- 1:17:42Goes for the little, cuts outside to the left across the 25.
- 1:17:45Jakes off the tackle and is knocked out at the 30-yard line by Jake Scott and Dick Anderson.
- 1:17:51He was hit back at the 25 but got away.
- 1:17:54And that's going to be a first down for Denver.
- 1:17:57As Floyd Little for the first time this afternoon rambles.
- 1:18:00Ten-yard pick up. They held him to an average of one yard per carry in the first half.
- 1:18:04His average last year was 4.3 per carry.
- 1:18:08Rick, the Dolphins have only punted once this game.
- 1:18:11Seipel punted for 59 yards.
- 1:18:13To show you how frustrating it must be for Shuler and the staff.
- 1:18:18Broncos ball at their 30-yard line. First down. Gertke splits right.
- 1:18:22And Harrison a couple yards to the near side.
- 1:18:25Horn up under center. Box the signals. Long count.
- 1:18:28Hands off Anderson. Flaps his way through the right side and is tracked at the 35-yard line.
- 1:18:32A good hole on the right side. Manny Fernandez made the stop from his defensive tackle position.
- 1:18:38And they mark the ball just across the 25.
- 1:18:41It'll be second down and five for the Broncos. The ball up their 35-yard line.
- 1:18:45Six minutes, 20 seconds left to go in the third quarter.
- 1:18:48The score tied 3-3.
- 1:18:51Carolia Premien has one for four on the field goal department. Turner is one for two.
- 1:18:56Gertke puts to the right.
- 1:18:59The ball up at Denver 35 with a second down and five.
- 1:19:02Here's the handoff. Anderson off left tackle at the 39-40-41-42-yard line.
- 1:19:07Before he is contained, Jake Scott, Roy Pumphert on the stop.
- 1:19:12Bill Stansfield also, but not before he gets the first down.
- 1:19:16And speaking of the Dolphins ground game just a moment ago,
- 1:19:20Horn is keeping the ball on the ground and they're beginning to get some motion
- 1:19:25blocking off their offensive line. The ball up at Denver 41, a first down.
- 1:19:30Anderson in the middle. Two fine running backs out of the huddle they come.
- 1:19:34Gertke splits off the right side. Harrison to the near side.
- 1:19:38The ball up at Denver 41, a first down.
- 1:19:425-25 to go in the third quarter.
- 1:19:45Here is Horn, hands off. Check it. End of the round. Harrison carries to the far side.
- 1:19:505-50 down in the Dolphin territory at the 49 before he's knocked down by Tim Foley.
- 1:19:56Reverse and carried. End of the round to Harrison.
- 1:19:59Cut to the far side. Got the corner turn.
- 1:20:02And gets down to the Miami 49-yard line.
- 1:20:06That's good for another first down.
- 1:20:08Wait a minute. They're going to bring the chains in and measure it.
- 1:20:11Maybe it isn't the first down.
- 1:20:13Time out call by Tommy Bell. It doesn't look like they made it.
- 1:20:17Just inches. It's going to be second down, less than a yard.
- 1:20:22Ball at the Dolphin 49-yard line.
- 1:20:25The Broncos have really changed their offensive running pattern in the second half, working out of the eye.
- 1:20:29They did not in the first half. Now that play completely fooled the Dolphins.
- 1:20:33Three Dolphins went for Anderson then and he did not have the ball.
- 1:20:37The ball at the Dolphin 49, second down and much less than a yard to go for a first down.
- 1:20:43Durkey splits to the near side. Harrison a couple of yards off the right side.
- 1:20:47Anderson in the middle. In behind quarterback John Horn.
- 1:20:51Looks around, checks the position of his back.
- 1:20:55On the snap. Hands to Little. He's through the left side.
- 1:20:58Still digging and he gets the first down.
- 1:21:01Didn't pick up too much yardage. Gets to a 48 but he got enough for the first down.
- 1:21:04Doug Swift from the left side linebacker makes the stop.
- 1:21:08Along with Mike Colon. First down for the Broncos at the Dolphin 48-yard line.
- 1:21:12They started his drive back at their 20.
- 1:21:15Leña Premien missed a field goal attempt.
- 1:21:19Ball at the Dolphin 48-yard line.
- 1:21:22Airtime next week from Buffalo against the Bills who scored 37 points on the Dallas Cowboys today.
- 1:21:28And a losing effort to be a 12-50 along our Dolphin network.
- 1:21:32Harrison left. Durkey right. Are the wide receivers.
- 1:21:34In the eye. Little to Anderson. Here's Horn. Play action. Fakes the handoff.
- 1:21:39Set the throw. Let's one go in the middle. It is putt.
- 1:21:42And down at the 33-yard line is Jack Durkey.
- 1:21:45Tackled by Dick Anderson.
- 1:21:47As Horn slips as he went back to throw. Regained his position.
- 1:21:52And then ripped it in the middle.
- 1:21:55And it's locked down at the 33-yard line. Again a 15. Another first down.
- 1:21:59That's the first pass thrown by Horn in this drive.
- 1:22:03Ball for Dolphin 33 as the Broncos are on the move.
- 1:22:07And the Baltimore Colts are too. They lead the New York Jets 19-0 in the third quarter.
- 1:22:11Baltimore 19, New York nothing third quarter.
- 1:22:14Jerry Simmons is coming at the wide receiver spot. First time replacing Durkey. He splits right.
- 1:22:19Bob Hines now playing defensive tackle. Replaced to Richardson.
- 1:22:23Harrison splits left and Simmons to the far side.
- 1:22:27Here's the handoff going to Little. He puts his head down and gets to about the 31.
- 1:22:31Coming in across the left side.
- 1:22:33He was mothered by Green Jersey, Bonacati number 85, Bob Hines number 72.
- 1:22:39They mark it at the 32-yard line. So it's a game of only a yard. It'll be second down and nine.
- 1:22:44Two minutes, 55 seconds to go in this third quarter. Score tied 3-3.
- 1:22:48Simmons is the fellow who started his preseason with the San Francisco 49ers.
- 1:22:54Caught the tying touchdown pass against us in the preseason game at the Orange Bowl thrown by Steve Freer.
- 1:23:00He was cut by San Francisco and is now a wide receiver with the Broncos.
- 1:23:04Second and nine. Ball at the Dolphin 32. Harrison splits left. Simmons to the far side.
- 1:23:10Here is Horn. Back to throw. Gets a rush from Fernandez and Stamfield.
- 1:23:14Swings the screen. Little at the 35. He's knocked down at the 32-yard line by Fernandez.
- 1:23:22There's no gain on the play. Bonacati also in on the stop.
- 1:23:25He got back to the line of scrimmage and that's about all.
- 1:23:28It'll be a third down and nine. Both defenses have risen to the occasion when the pressure has been on this afternoon.
- 1:23:34Let's see if the Dolphins can hold them for one more down.
- 1:23:36Third and nine from the Dolphin 32 with two minutes left to play in the third quarter. The score is tied 3-3.
- 1:23:45Horn getting his big opportunity this year with the Denver Broncos. Harrison splits to the near side.
- 1:23:53Simmons is wide to the right. Little and Anderson with a third and nine.
- 1:23:58Back to throw goes Horn. Sets up. Throws deep in the end zone. It is caught. Touchdown Harrison.
- 1:24:05Harrison the rookie from Texas A&I got in between.
- 1:24:23Lloyd Mumford and Jake Scott caught the ball with about a yard to go in the end zone.
- 1:24:28A perfectly thrown pass as Horn lays it in there from 32 yards out.
- 1:24:32And that's the first TD of the ball game.
- 1:24:351.37 left to play in the third quarter. The Broncos move out for a 9-3 lead.
- 1:24:3980 yards drive, 9 plays.
- 1:24:42Key play, a 15-yard pass from Gerke or from Horn to Gerke.
- 1:24:46Jim Turner in to try the point from placement and Horn will hold.
- 1:24:50The Dolphins now have their work cut out for them. Here's the snap.
- 1:24:53Set down. The kick is up. It's perfect.
- 1:24:56The score with a minute and 37 seconds left to play in this third quarter as there's a timeout on the field.
- 1:25:03The Denver Broncos 10, the Miami Dolphins 3.

- 1:26:05This is Rick Weaver back at Mile High Stadium in Denver.
- 1:26:15Dave Washington preparing to kick off. The Dolphins haven't had a run back this afternoon.
- 1:26:19Hubert Ginn off to the left.
- 1:26:20Rick Remorse to the near side with 1.37 to go in the third quarter.
- 1:26:24A 32-yard touchdown pass from Don Horn to Dwight Harrison in the Denver Broncos lead by a score of 10 to 3.
- 1:26:31Here's the whistle. Washington gets it high and it's going to be deep again.
- 1:26:35Backing up is Ginn. He's out of the end zone for the touchback.
- 1:26:38And the Dolphins will have to start from their 20-yard line.
- 1:26:42This Washington, a second-year linebacker, 6'5", 225 pounds, really has a toe.
- 1:26:47He lost his shoe on that one.
- 1:26:51Dolphins trailing by 7.
- 1:26:54They have generated offense but they have not been able to put any points up on the board
- 1:26:58since Gepermian kicked a 21-yard field goal in the first quarter.
- 1:27:01Garrow has missed three.
- 1:27:03Howard Twilley making his first appearance as a wide receiver to the near side.
- 1:27:07Broncos sets it flat back to the right.
- 1:27:09Warfield is split left and kick in behind Greasy.
- 1:27:12First down, Dolphins, in the 20-yard line as they move from our left to our right.
- 1:27:16Here's the snap. Fake handoff. Greasy sprints back to his left looking for Warfield.
- 1:27:20He's got it across the 40. Puts a center step on the quarterback. Out of bounds he goes at the 48-yard line in Denver territory.
- 1:27:27Dave Washington is the man who ran him out along with Joe Thompson.
- 1:27:3232 yards as Warfield went up the far sideline, came back, and had a wide open field position to receive Greasy's pass.
- 1:27:41First down for the Dolphins at the Broncos 48-yard line.
- 1:27:46Paul Warfield has caught three passes for 97 yards.
- 1:27:521.23 left to go in the third quarter. Broncos lead 10-3. First and 10 Dolphins at the Broncos 48.
- 1:27:59Warfield splits off the far side. Fully in tight to the right.
- 1:28:04Now here comes kick and motion. Now set as a wide receiver to the right.
- 1:28:09Greasy swings one to kick. Kick looking for the hole. He's right to the ground for a loss back in the Dolphins territory.
- 1:28:16As they fool nobody on that one, Dave Washington from his linebacker spot covering kick on the play.
- 1:28:23Had it diagnosed perfectly. And kick has come out to the near side as a wide man.
- 1:28:27And Greasy just swung the pass out, but Jim couldn't find any running room.
- 1:28:31Back to the Dolphins 44 it goes. A loss of 8 yards on the play.
- 1:28:38That'll be a second down coming up. And 18 for the Dolphins back at their 44.
- 1:28:45Gotta get something started here pretty quick. 45 seconds left to go in the third quarter.
- 1:28:49They set swilly and Warfield is double wide receivers to the left.
- 1:28:52Kick and Zonka in behind Greasy from the Dolphins 44. Second down and 18.
- 1:28:58Greasy running back to his left. Sets up the throw. Here's the pass. It is caught by Warfield at the 45.
- 1:29:05He fumbles the ball. Pitch up by Pabst and for 50. Down in the Dolphins territory and finally built it out of bounds.
- 1:29:11Down inside the 40 yard line. Warfield had the ball stolen away from him that time.
- 1:29:18And the loose ball was picked up by cornerback Bill Thompson. He runs it down to the about the Dolphins 38 yard line.
- 1:29:25Norm Evans drove him out of bounds.
- 1:29:30So it turns around very quickly. 19 yards on the pass completion.
- 1:29:34They run the ball back off the recovered fumbles back to the Dolphins 38 yard line. There are 11 seconds left to go in the third quarter.
- 1:29:4410 to 3. Denver out in front. There's a timeout to call on the field by the officials.
- 1:29:51And there is the end of the third quarter. They were waiting for the clock to run up for the judges timing device.
- 1:29:58That's the end of the third period. Dolphin football action will continue from Denver with the score Denver 10 Miami 3.
- 1:30:05Hey.
- 1:30:07San Diego nothing. In the third quarter, Baltimore 19. The Jets nothing. Those are the only two games going, Rick.
- 1:30:13Well the defense has got to get the ball back again. First and 10 Denver at our 38 yard line. Simmons splits left.
- 1:30:19And Harrison who caught the touchdown pass is off to the near side. Anderson in the middle behind Horn. Handoff goes to Anderson.
- 1:30:24Little brother through the middle. 45, 40, 25. Right down at the 21 yard line by Tim Foley.
- 1:30:30Big hole that time for Floyd Little to operate in. 16 yards on the pickup down to the Dolphins. 21 yard line.
- 1:30:37First down of course for the Broncos down at the Dolphins 21. And we are in trouble.
- 1:30:44We trail 10 to 3. Hines and Fernandez are the two tackles. Riley and Stanfield are the end. Colin Bonacati and Swift are the linebackers.
- 1:30:55Anderson along with Foley, Mumford and Scott the secondary. Simmons split left from the Dolphins 21. First down of the Broncos.
- 1:31:05Here's the handoff. Little or Anderson with a bang straight ahead and gets to the 17 yard line. Bob Anderson.
- 1:31:11Manny Fernandez hit him head on. They mark it down at the 17 yard line. A game of four. It will be second down and sixth.
- 1:31:18For the Broncos at the Dolphins 17. Sam Brunelli the left guard. Opened the hole that time.
- 1:31:2513.55 left to play in the football game. And things do not look exactly bright for the Dolphins now. Trailing 10 to 3.
- 1:31:36Brunelli has made only one of four field goal attempts. Simmons out of the huddle. Foot left. And to the near side.
- 1:31:43Comparison from the Dolphins 17. Second down and six yards to go. Take the handoff. Orange sets the throw.
- 1:31:50Far corner of the end zone. It will be overcrawl. End to play to Kettifer Simmons. Back defending on the play was Lloyd Mumford.
- 1:31:59Little bit long. It will be a third down. Coming up and sixth. As they mark the ball down now at the 18 yard line.
- 1:32:08So we'll change it and call it third and seven. Ball at the Dolphin 18. Jack Gurkey has come back in.
- 1:32:17Number 40 replaces Simmons at the wide receiver spot. 13.28 to play in this ball game. The Dolphins trail 10 to 3.
- 1:32:24Out of the huddle now come the Broncos. From the Dolphin 18. Gurkey, foot left. Harrison to the near side.
- 1:32:30Anderson to Little. The setbacks behind quarterback Don Horan. Third down, seven. From the Dolphin 18.
- 1:32:35Here's the handoff. Little is really cracked by Bota Connie coming across the left side. And he got nothing.
- 1:32:41Back to the line of scrimmage and that's all. So the field goal unit comes in. Jim Turner. And it will be about a 25 yard attempt.
- 1:32:49And Rick, I don't think Lou Saban was taking any chances. As Little would have got the seven for him fine.
- 1:32:55But he ran toward the middle to set up the field goal. Which if successful would put him 10 points ahead in the fourth quarter.
- 1:33:01The way this game is going. That could be icing. Don Horan will hold. Turner will try from right out in front of the South goal post.
- 1:33:08He's one for two. As a 10 yarder earlier. Jay Bachman in to have him a long snap. Here's the snap. Set down his clock.
- 1:33:16Loose ball rolls into the end zone. And it will be blown dead and brought out in foot and play.
- 1:33:22Lloyd Mumford is the man who got his hands on it. For the Dolphins. There's a timeout on the field with a score. Denver 10, Miami 3.
- 1:33:29It all depends on you. The kind of person you are. Take sports for example. There's two choices.
- 1:33:36You can be a participant or a spectator. You may like the excitement and noise of a football game.
- 1:33:42Or you may enjoy the quiet thrill of fishing. You probably enjoy both. As millions of others do.
- 1:33:50If you're enjoying football today, tomorrow you may want to get away from it all and relax in peace and quiet.
- 1:33:56To enjoy good fishing you don't need the most expensive rod and reel in the world.
- 1:34:00What you need is a rod and reel that looks and handles like the most expensive you can buy.
- 1:34:06Remember their names. Spin Master Reels and Hurricane Rods. Spin Master Reels and Hurricane Rods.
- 1:34:13Designed here in Florida for Florida fishing. Look for them at your favorite tackle store.
- 1:34:19Our rods and reels are so good they're better than many others costing twice as much.
- 1:34:24Now you can have twice the fun at half the cost. Remember the names. Spin Master Reels and Hurricane Rods.
- 1:34:32San Diego is on the board at home. It is Kansas City 14, San Diego 7 in the third quarter.
- 1:34:39Baltimore continues to lead the Jets 19-0 in the third quarter.
- 1:34:42And here we are in the 12 minutes left to play 12-43. 10-3 Broncos is Rick.
- 1:34:48Alright we have 12-43, 80 yards to go. Dolphins trail 10-3.
- 1:34:54Tully split right. Warfield to the nearside from the Dolphins 20 yard line. On first down the handoff Zonka comes to the nearside.
- 1:35:02Turns the corner. He's belted to the ground at the 25, the 26 yard line.
- 1:35:06Good block by Jim Kick that time. Fred Forsberg, the middle linebacker coming across makes the stop.
- 1:35:12Let's get a station break in. This is the Miami Dolphin Football Network.
- 1:35:15WIOD Miami. Jack Anderson's Washington Marigold round normally presented Sunday evenings at this time, 6 o'clock.
- 1:35:22We'll be heard at the end of today's Dolphins-Broncos game.
- 1:35:25Be sure to hear the Washington Marigold round next week at its regular time.
- 1:35:28Mercury Morris in the offensive backfield for the first time this afternoon for Miami replacing Kick.
- 1:35:34Second down and four. Here's the handoff. Morris, quick to the right. He's caught from behind.
- 1:35:38Knockdown, gets up and it's knocked down again for a loss.
- 1:35:41Back of the 20 yard line. Paul Smith and Lyle Alzato just hand-flut the blockers and did a tremendous job on defense.
- 1:35:51A loss of six on the play for Morris. So the right back where they started from.
- 1:35:56Third down and 10 with 12 minutes. Morris goes out. Kick comes back in.
- 1:36:0112 minutes and three seconds left to play. The Broncos lead 10 to 3.
- 1:36:05A leading margin, a 32 yard touchdown pass from Don Horne to Ricky Dwight Harrison in the third period.
- 1:36:12Dolphins third and 10 at their 20. Warfield splits wide to the nearside.
- 1:36:17Kick and Donka the setbacks in behind Ricky. Waiting for the snap.
- 1:36:22Here it is. Ricky splitting out to his left side. Turns around. Goes back to the far side.
- 1:36:27It is caught by Mandich. He is across the 20. Gets up across the 25 to the 26 yard line.
- 1:36:33Ricky threw the defense with him to the nearest side of the field.
- 1:36:37Lyle Alzato is the man who made the tackle. Then he threw back to the far side.
- 1:36:42Mandich caught the ball and it picks up six yards. That's not enough. They needed 10.
- 1:36:48So Seipel for the second time today will come into putt.
- 1:36:51First time he had a 59 yarder. 11.15 to go.
- 1:36:56Bill Thompson will be back to field the putt as the deep man.
- 1:37:01And the shallow man is Charlie Greer. Seipel will stand up at 11. The line is coming to the Miami 26.
- 1:37:08Waiting for the snap. Here it is. The good rush. Seipel. Booms. Run out of there.
- 1:37:13A nice high spiral giving the coverage a chance to get down. Greer grabs it for 30.
- 1:37:17Find the hole! 40! Flag down! 45! 50!
- 1:37:20Hey, Thompson falls. Knocked out at the top of 43.
- 1:37:23But there was a flag down back up the Denver 30 yard line.
- 1:37:28A fine return by Charlie Greer. 49 yards on the kick.
- 1:37:36A flag down on the play. 21 yards on the return. It's going to be called back.
- 1:37:42The flag was thrown at the 30 yard line. And I'll bet you somebody clipped.
- 1:37:47They'll mark it back at the 15 instead of having position in Miami end of the field.
- 1:37:54There's the signal. A clipping call on Denver. They'll start from there 15.
- 1:37:58Seipel is now punted twice. Once for 59. Once for 49. He's averaging 54 yards to punt. Only two punts.
- 1:38:05Escondada, Henry Barrow.
- 1:38:07We want to tell you who's getting credit for blocking that field goal attempt a while ago.
- 1:38:11We're having a little trouble with our cue system here on the field.
- 1:38:14But it was Jim Riley who got the official credit for blocking the field goal attempt by Kerry.
- 1:38:18Okay. Thank you, Henry. Jerry Simmons is back in. Fluts off the left side.
- 1:38:23Harrison to the near side. Little Anderson, the setback behind Horn.
- 1:38:27From the 15, Anderson runs into Horn on the handoff.
- 1:38:30And Beardoff to his left gets about a yard.
- 1:38:3482, 17-yard line. Right side of the dolphin defense.
- 1:38:38And it's backing him up. Bob Hines was the man who made the initial contact.
- 1:38:43They mark it at the 16, a gain of a yard. The second down and nine.
- 1:38:48Jesse Powell in the linebacker spot replaces Colen for Miami.
- 1:38:51Ten minutes, 20 seconds to go. Broncos lead 10 to 3.
- 1:38:55Out of the huddle they come. Back at their 16. Simmons fluts left. Harrison to the near side.
- 1:38:59Out of the eye formation.
- 1:39:02Anderson to the middle. The setback sent behind Don Horn.
- 1:39:06Horn long count. That's the line of Skrivich. Hands off.
- 1:39:09Little finds a hole. He's hit by Hines.
- 1:39:11And knocks to the ground at about the 19-yard line.
- 1:39:15Picked up a couple yards.
- 1:39:17Hines at 6, 6, 270. Filled the breach admirably that time.
- 1:39:22Now it's a very big play for the Dolphins. If they can contain Denver here,
- 1:39:26they will force them punting from deep in their own territory.
- 1:39:29The Dolphins desperately need now his field position.
- 1:39:32The ball at the Denver 19-yard line. Third down and six.
- 1:39:37Harrison fluts left. Simmons to the near side of the field.
- 1:39:42Horn sets his ball club with 9.30. Left to play in the ball game.
- 1:39:45Denver leading by a score of 10 to 3. Third down and six.
- 1:39:49Here's the handoff. And he didn't get anything.
- 1:39:52Bill Stanfield. Anderson, the ball carrier, is hit at the 20,
- 1:39:56a point of only a yard. So they did not make the needed yardage.
- 1:39:59And the punting unit comes on. Van Heusen.
- 1:40:02Be up to him to get that ball upfield about as far as he can.
- 1:40:06And Jake Scott would like nothing but a good run back here.
- 1:40:10He and Dick Anderson go back to field to punt.
- 1:40:13The line of Skrivich will be the Denver 20-yard line.
- 1:40:16Block continuing to move with 8.55 left to play.
- 1:40:20Van Heusen will stand back at about the Denver 5.
- 1:40:24The Broncos out in front 10 to 3.
- 1:40:27Waiting for the snap now. Here it is.
- 1:40:29Van Heusen has time, gets the boot out of there, and he really ripped it.
- 1:40:33Holy Toledo with a kick. Back at the 30.
- 1:40:35Here's Scott. Straight ahead, 35.
- 1:40:3740. Knocked off his feet at the 40-yard line.
- 1:40:39A great punt by Van Heusen. A 10-yard return by Jake Scott.
- 1:40:4350 yards in the air. Bill McCoy.
- 1:40:48And Ken Kleiner in on the stop for Denver.
- 1:40:51With a timeout on the field, we'll destroy the Broncos 10 to Dolphins 3.
- 1:40:54At 14.55.
- 1:40:56Don't get caught with your batteries now.
- 1:41:00Say, can you imagine turning on your transistor radio
- 1:41:04to the biggest ball game of the year, and it won't make a sound?
- 1:41:09Don't let it happen.
- 1:41:11You better get everybody out tonight, energizers.
- 1:41:16Because they last. Because they last.
- 1:41:23For batteries that last and last and last,
- 1:41:26radios, cameras, or cassette players,
- 1:41:29get up and ready alkaline energizers.
- 1:41:31They last so long, work so well,
- 1:41:34they're America's best-selling alkaline batteries.
- 1:41:37First, because they last.
- 1:41:39Don't get caught with your batteries now.
- 1:41:43You better get everybody alkaline energizers.
- 1:41:49Because they last.
- 1:41:52Ever ready alkaline energizers.
- 1:41:59The Jets now lead the Colts 22 to nothing in the fourth quarter.
- 1:42:03Kansas City leads San Diego 14-7 third quarter.
- 1:42:06We have 8.34 remaining. The ball on the 40, the Dolphins have it, and here's Rick.
- 1:42:10Twilley's foot's right, war field at the near side, about the Dolphins 40,
- 1:42:13kicking Zonkin behind Greasy.
- 1:42:158.34 left the goal, the Dolphins are seven points behind, 10-3.
- 1:42:20Waiting for the snap, Greasy fakes the handoff, drops back to throw,
- 1:42:24steps up, looking, looking, he's being pursued, and he's called for a loss.
- 1:42:28Back at the 32-yard line. Couldn't find anybody open.
- 1:42:32And Dave Washington and Dave Costa, right side linebacker and right tackle respectively.
- 1:42:38And they mark it back at the 32. That's the fifth dunk of the day for the Denver defense.
- 1:42:44A loss of eight. It'll be second down and 18. Jim Mandich is the tight end.
- 1:42:49Warfield and Willey are the wide receivers, kicking Zonkin the setback.
- 1:42:56Dolphins, 21-yard field goal in the first quarter by Garrow Eupremian, who later on is missed three.
- 1:43:01We have not been able to put anything else on the board.
- 1:43:04Warfield splits left, Willey to the right, second and 18, Dolphins from their 32.
- 1:43:09On the snap, Greasy back to throw. He rips one. Willey's got it across to 45 and knocked down.
- 1:43:15At the 47-yard line, Howard Willey in a crossover pattern.
- 1:43:19He is hit immediately by Leroy Mitchell, the left cornerback.
- 1:43:23And they mark it at the 46. That is not enough for a first down lacking about four yards.
- 1:43:30That's 14 yards on the pass completion, Greasy to Willey.
- 1:43:34It'll be third down and four. Dolphins fall up their 46.
- 1:43:37And this is a big one. Right here with 7.35 left to play in this ball game.
- 1:43:42Denver leading by a score of 10 to 3.
- 1:43:44We've got to get on track and get into that end zone.
- 1:43:47Here's Willey. Wide to the right. Warfield splits left.
- 1:43:51Third down and four. They've got to get to the 50-yard line.
- 1:43:54The ball up the Dolphins, 46.
- 1:43:57Waiting for the snap. Greasy takes the handoff. Back to throw he goes.
- 1:44:01He's throwing down the near side. It is overthrown.
- 1:44:04Warfield was cutting for the near sideline and the ball was thrown behind him.
- 1:44:08Covering on the play was Bill Thompson, the right cornerback.
- 1:44:12Bobby Anderson, the great offensive star for the Denver Broncos, is injured in front of us.
- 1:44:19He has an injured knee and they are working on it.
- 1:44:21It'll be a fourth down and four yards to go for a first down situation.
- 1:44:27The ball up the Dolphins, 46. And they're going to have to go for it.
- 1:44:32With seven minutes and 12 seconds left to play.
- 1:44:35Here comes Otto Stow in from the Dolphins bench on the far side of the field.
- 1:44:41Fourth down and four. Dolphins fall up their 46. Stow spreads to the right.
- 1:44:46Warfield to the near side.
- 1:44:48This is a big play of the ball game as far as Miami is concerned.
- 1:44:52Greasy sets his ball club at the line of scrimmage.
- 1:44:56Waiting for the snap. Bob to throw. Being rushed. He breaks out of it.
- 1:45:00Can he get the first down? No. He drops at the 48 but there's a flag down at the Denver 48 yard line.
- 1:45:08Greasy scrambling out of a no pass situation. There's a flag down.
- 1:45:13Back in Denver territory the tackle was made by linebacker Dave Washington.
- 1:45:17Finally against the Broncos.
- 1:45:19We'll give the Dolphins a first down.
- 1:45:23Defensive holding call. An automatic first down.
- 1:45:28Defensive holding on the Denver Broncos and the Dolphins get a break on that one.
- 1:45:33A first down at the Denver 46.
- 1:45:35Greasy had not made the first down.
- 1:45:38Otto Stow stays in the ball game. He and Warfield, a wide receiver.
- 1:45:42Seven minutes, three seconds left to play. Denver leads 10 to 3.
- 1:45:47Warfield puts to the near side. So to the far side. Zonka and kick.
- 1:45:52In behind Greasy. First down Dolphins at the Denver 46 yard line.
- 1:45:56Waiting for the snaps. Here's the handoff. Kick on the draw.
- 1:46:00Back to the line of scrimmage. Might have lost the yard.
- 1:46:03We're waiting for it. Lyle Alzato, a rookie defensive end, has done a great job today.
- 1:46:07One of the middle linebacker Fred Forsberg makes his stop.
- 1:46:10The reason Howard Twilley is not back in there is he got a hip bruise.
- 1:46:14Right on the hip bone. They haven't decided to call it a hip pointer or not.
- 1:46:19But he's got a badly bruised right hip.
- 1:46:21Jim Maddich goes out. Marv Fleming comes in at tight end for the Dolphins.
- 1:46:25Second down and 10 as they market at the 46. No gain on the last play.
- 1:46:29Stow spreads to the right. Warfield to the near side.
- 1:46:326.29 left to go. Denver leading 10 to 3.
- 1:46:36We see on the snap drops back to throw. This time he has time.
- 1:46:40Throwing long. Forstow.
- 1:46:42Over. Throw it out of bounds. Down at the 10 yard line on the far side of the field.
- 1:46:46Back-defensing all the way with left quarterback Leroy Mitchell.
- 1:46:50Well the incompletion stops the clock with 6.17 left to go.
- 1:46:54It'll be a third and 10. Dolphins fall at the Denver 46 yard line.
- 1:46:58In addition to the pass rush, we've got to give this Denver secondary a lot of credit.
- 1:47:02They are bumping and running and usually when you lay off that, you find yourself a step behind.
- 1:47:07But in that case, the defensive man was right with Stow. Warfield on the other side well covered.
- 1:47:12It's been a fine second effort by the part of the Broncos.
- 1:47:14Greasy is 9 for 17. Horn is 10 for 17.
- 1:47:20Jim Maddich back at a tight end for the Dolphins.
- 1:47:23Stow spreads right. Warfield left from the Bronco 46.
- 1:47:27Third down and 10 with 6.17 left to play.
- 1:47:31Somebody jumps with no snap. No flags. Greasy back to throw.
- 1:47:35Getting the rush. Rose it is almost picked off.
- 1:47:38Maddich was bumped and knocked down at the 30 yard line.
- 1:47:41And it was intended for him, Greer and Sames.
- 1:47:46The ball passed in between them. Had a chance at an interception.
- 1:47:49It'll be fourth down for the Dolphins at the 46 yard line in Denver territory.
- 1:47:566 minutes 12 seconds left to go in this ballgame.
- 1:47:59Watch it stop for the incompletion.
- 1:48:01Denver leading 10 to 3 and Miami has had a rough time.
- 1:48:06Moving this football particularly through the air against the Denver defense.
- 1:48:11The great pass rush and good secondary coverage.
- 1:48:15Alright, this is it. Fourth down and 10.
- 1:48:18They've got to get to the 36 yard line at least. Stow splits to the right side.
- 1:48:22Warfield spreads to the left. Kick and Bronco in behind Greasy.
- 1:48:27And the snap. Greasy back to throw. He's set. He fires.
- 1:48:31Warfield got it at the 30 at the 28 yard line.
- 1:48:35We've got our first down and we're still alive.
- 1:48:38Warfield grabbed the ball down the near side, hooked in at the inbound hash mark.
- 1:48:4218 yards on the pass completion.
- 1:48:45Washington, the right line backer and the free safety George Sames made the stop.
- 1:48:49And for some reason the defensive secondary of the Broncos on that play
- 1:48:54was 10 yards off Warfield and he was absolutely alone. They did not play bump and run.
- 1:48:58Howard Twilley has come back in.
- 1:49:01The ball at the Denver 29 is where they mark it. 5.35 left to play.
- 1:49:06The score is 10 to 3. Twilley splits off the far side.
- 1:49:11Warfield is the wide man left. Manich is the tight end left.
- 1:49:14Kick and Bronco, the setbacks in behind Greasy from the Denver 29.
- 1:49:17Here's a double reverse to the backfield. Warfield carrying.
- 1:49:19Takes off a tackler, runs into a blocker and is knocked down for a loss.
- 1:49:24They try the end of the round with the double handoff in the backfield and Denver was waiting for it.
- 1:49:29Warfield ran into one of his own blockers.
- 1:49:33And there's a timeout.
- 1:49:35It's all to the officials as Warfield is slow in getting up and trainer Bob Lundy races onto the field.
- 1:49:41They've cost a major tackle on the last play. They mark the ball at the Denver 31.
- 1:49:45It's a loss of two. So when time is in it'll be second down and 12.
- 1:49:49Clock is stopped by the officials with 5.05 to go.
- 1:49:53There is an official timeout on the field with the score Denver 10, Miami 3.
- 1:49:58When your beer is Valentine, you're going with a winner.
- 1:50:02That means you're getting the best tasting cold beer you can.
- 1:50:06It's because of Valentine's extra step called cold brewing.
- 1:50:11Cold brewing. Valentine's way of making sure every glass bowl tastes great.
- 1:50:17Ice crackling cold.
- 1:50:19Pick up a six pack of cold brewed Valentine and you know why.
- 1:50:23At Valentine, we got a lot of greatness going for it.
- 1:50:27Hey, get your cold beer.
- 1:50:31Get your cold brewed Valentine beer.
- 1:50:34Taste the beer that's brisk and icily light.
- 1:50:38The cold brewed taste that's briskly right.
- 1:50:42Frosty lively, briskly clear.
- 1:50:46The brisk free pressure.
- 1:50:48Cold brewed Valentine here.
- 1:50:50Cold brewed Valentine.
- 1:50:52Yes, we got a lot of greatness going for it.
- 1:50:55The Valentine son, Newark, New Jersey.
- 1:50:59Warfield going off the field under his own power.
- 1:51:04Rick, he has caught five for 140 yards.
- 1:51:0928 yards per catch.
- 1:51:10I think he just had the wind knocked out of him.
- 1:51:12He's going off under his own power.
- 1:51:13Kyle Noonan comes in to replace him.
- 1:51:15We have a second down and 12 situation at the Denver 31.
- 1:51:19With five, check it, now the clock moving, 4.55 left to play.
- 1:51:22Denver leading by seven.
- 1:51:24Fully spread right, Noonan to the left side.
- 1:51:25Kickenvaka in behind Greasy on a second and 12 from the Denver 31.
- 1:51:31Here is Greasy dropping back to throw.
- 1:51:33Gets a rise, let's go a pass.
- 1:51:35Clock by Kicken out of bounds inside the 25 at the 23-yard line.
- 1:51:39Jim Kicks, spread out to the near sideline down here.
- 1:51:43Running him out was linebacker Dave Washington.
- 1:51:46They picked up about nine yards.
- 1:51:48Let's get out of Henry.
- 1:51:49Paul Warfield got bruised ribs on that play.
- 1:51:52He also had the wind knocked out of him, but the ribs are the main concern right now.
- 1:51:56There will be a third down coming up and about four and a half yards to go for a Miami first down.
- 1:52:03Four minutes and 40 seconds left to play.
- 1:52:06Denver leads 10 to three.
- 1:52:07The ball up to Bronco, 23 yard line.
- 1:52:09Third down, we'll call it four.
- 1:52:11Fully spread to the far side, Noonan to the near side of the field.
- 1:52:15Mandich to tight end, Kickenvaka in behind Greasy.
- 1:52:18From the Denver 23, third down and four.
- 1:52:22Greasy back to throw, sets up, cramble situation now.
- 1:52:26He throws for the end zone, man down there, incomplete.
- 1:52:30And 10 at four, Noonan.
- 1:52:33He could not catch up with a football.
- 1:52:36So the incompletion stops the clock.
- 1:52:38It'll be fourth and four, 432 left to go.
- 1:52:41Here's Larry.
- 1:52:42Howard Quilley has beaten his man and was alone at the five-yard line,
- 1:52:45but Rich Jackson with those big hands coming in, intimidated Greasy.
- 1:52:49Greasy did not see Quilley and reversed the other way
- 1:52:52and then wound up with two men open and overthrew them.
- 1:52:55And if those are the same ribs that Warfield busted last year, we're in trouble, but here he comes in.
- 1:53:00Warfield back in, the ball at the 23-yard line in Denver territory, fourth and four.
- 1:53:06We've got to get at least to the 19-yard line to keep possession of the football.
- 1:53:11Quilley spreads to the right.
- 1:53:12Warfield left, 432 left to go.
- 1:53:16Here's Greasy, fourth and four, back to throw.
- 1:53:19That goes deep.
- 1:53:21It is picked off at the one-yard line by Greer and knocked out of bounds at the three.
- 1:53:26So Denver takes over.
- 1:53:28Back at the one-yard line with Charlie Greer, the strong safety to pick off the pass.
- 1:53:36It was intended for Quilley, and he runs it back to the three-yard line.
- 1:53:40So Denver takes over there.
- 1:53:43And Rich Jackson up very slowly after that play and a little wobbly coming off the field.
- 1:53:48So the Dolphins here are going to try to force the fumble and try to keep the Broncos deep.
- 1:53:53They are playing now for a tie, friends.
- 1:53:55We have four minutes and 15 seconds left, and they trail 10-3.
- 1:53:59Well, this is what makes pro football such a great ball, a great game, is that anything can happen.
- 1:54:04Four minutes, seven seconds to go.
- 1:54:06The ball to Denver's possession at their three-yard line.
- 1:54:11Here's Horn.
- 1:54:12Gives to Anderson.
- 1:54:13Anderson pounds straight ahead, gets to the five, maybe the six-yard line.
- 1:54:19Barry Simmons and Dwight Harrison are the wide receivers on this team now.
- 1:54:23The whole center of the Dolphin defense in the stoppum.
- 1:54:27And they mark the ball at the five.
- 1:54:29Got two.
- 1:54:30It'll second down at eight.
- 1:54:32Down at the five-yard line in Bronco territory, three minutes, 36 seconds to go.
- 1:54:37Denver leading 10-3.
- 1:54:39The Dolphins have got to get the football back.
- 1:54:41Next week, Buffalo.
- 1:54:43Air time on the network, 12.50.
- 1:54:46Simmons threats to the far side of the field.
- 1:54:48Harrison to the near side.
- 1:54:50Anderson in the middle.
- 1:54:52In behind Horn.
- 1:54:53Here's a handoff.
- 1:54:54Anderson slides through a hole on the right side, knocked down at about the eight-yard line.
- 1:54:58A three-yard pick-up on the play.
- 1:55:00Tackled by Riley.
- 1:55:02And we get a timeout on the field called against Miami with three minutes and 11 seconds left to play in the ball game.
- 1:55:10Denver leading 10-3.
- 1:55:11It'll be a third down and four situations coming up.
- 1:55:14When time is in, the ball is placed at the Denver nine-yard line.
- 1:55:17Larry?
- 1:55:18The Dolphins will have two timeouts remaining calling that one.
- 1:55:21Bonacani comes over to the sidelines to talk.
- 1:55:24They will get the break of a two-minute warning in a minute and 11 seconds.
- 1:55:28Of course, what they must do here is prevent this first down attempt by the Broncos.
- 1:55:34They have the ball on the nine.
- 1:55:35It's a third and four.
- 1:55:36The Dolphins have been very good on third down plays, except the one play that beat them, the touchdown play, was a third down, 32-yard touchdown to Harrison.
- 1:55:43Henry, anything from the sidelines on Warfield?
- 1:55:46Yeah, he just says the bruised ribs.
- 1:55:47He's going to play in the next series if we get the ball if we hold him here.
- 1:55:51Substitution, the offensive line at tight end, Billy Masters.
- 1:55:56Comes in and replaces Jim Whalen at tight end for Denver.
- 1:56:00The ball at the Denver nine-yard line with three-eleven left to go.
- 1:56:04It's third down and four.
- 1:56:06And the Broncos want to hold onto it, keep the drive alive.
- 1:56:10And the Dolphins desperately need to get their hands back on the football, trailing by a touchdown.
- 1:56:18They're back on the huddle.
- 1:56:20This has been a bruising ball game.
- 1:56:22Out of it they come.
- 1:56:23Harrison splits to the far side, Simmons to the near side.
- 1:56:26Anderson in the middle, in behind Horne.
- 1:56:29Third and four for the Broncos from their own nine-yard line, waiting for the snap from center.
- 1:56:34Here it is.
- 1:56:36Back to throw his horn.
- 1:56:37He's throwing up to the near side.
- 1:56:38It is back down.
- 1:56:40Great defense.
- 1:56:41He played by Timmy Foley.
- 1:56:42Had a great bit of deception back there on the play action by Horne.
- 1:56:45He flaked to the back going into the line a little and then went back to the goal line, ripped the pass up the near side.
- 1:56:50Simmons got in behind Foley, but Foley lunged in the air and knocked it down up at the 40-yard line.
- 1:56:56So it'll be a fourth down punting situation and Van Huysen is in.
- 1:57:00We got him out of trouble.
- 1:57:02We need a run back all the way.
- 1:57:04Three minutes and five seconds left to play.
- 1:57:06Scott and Anderson back to field to punt.
- 1:57:09Van Huysen, who got a beauty out of there last time, will stand about five, six yards deep in the end zone.
- 1:57:14The line of scrimmage is the Denver 9.
- 1:57:20Waiting for the snap.
- 1:57:22Here it is.
- 1:57:23He has time to get it away.
- 1:57:24Gets it off the side of his foot.
- 1:57:25A wildly punt.
- 1:57:26Anderson at the 40.
- 1:57:27Starts up the near sideline.
- 1:57:2835.
- 1:57:29Still going.
- 1:57:3030.
- 1:57:31And knocked down at the Denver 26-yard line.
- 1:57:34Only 31 yards on the punt that time.
- 1:57:36By Van Huysen, Anderson grabbed the ball at the 40.
- 1:57:39Looked for it to block.
- 1:57:41And let's see whether they're going to put it down.
- 1:57:43They say he was down at the 26-yard line.
- 1:57:46That's a 31.
- 1:57:47So a 14-yard return.
- 1:57:49Miami in the two-minute offense with 2.54 to go.
- 1:57:53Warfield, switch to the left.
- 1:57:56The ball at the 26-yard line in Denver territory.
- 1:58:00Here it's Greasey.
- 1:58:01Back to throw.
- 1:58:02He throws the swing to kick.
- 1:58:03Shakes off.
- 1:58:04Attacker is hit and dropped at the 25.
- 1:58:06It's picked up only about a yard.
- 1:58:08Backed by Forsberg, the middle linebacker.
- 1:58:12They've got out a pattern.
- 1:58:14And Miami calls a timeout with 2.37 left to play.
- 1:58:18They got only about a half yard.
- 1:58:20We'll give them no gain on it.
- 1:58:21As they put it down at the 26 again, it'll be second down and 10.
- 1:58:24I wonder why the Dolphins are using their timeouts now.
- 1:58:28With 2.37 left, they will have an automatic one coming at two minutes.
- 1:58:33Unless there's some readjustment, normally you hold your timeouts for the final two minutes.
- 1:58:37Miami only has one timeout left.
- 1:58:40The Broncos have their full complement of three.
- 1:58:44And Howard Cooley again made a move there and was free.
- 1:58:47And again Rich Jackson's big hand.
- 1:58:49Ball at Greasey.
- 1:58:50The Denver Broncos have jumped Greasey five times today.
- 1:58:54Robert is 12 for 22 in the passing department.
- 1:58:58John Horn, 10 for 19.
- 1:59:05We have exactly two minutes and 37 seconds remaining to play.
- 1:59:08The Dolphins have only one timeout left.
- 1:59:11And they are regrouping their forces.
- 1:59:12The Broncos are now changing every other play.
- 1:59:14Sometimes they come up and bump and run on Warfield and sometimes they do not.
- 1:59:18The ball is at the Denver 26 yard line, a second down and 10.
- 1:59:222.37 left to go.
- 1:59:25Miami needs a touchdown as we trail 10 to 3.
- 1:59:28Mandich is the tight end, fully stretched to the far side.
- 1:59:31Warfield to the near side.
- 1:59:33And Kickenforker, the setback, is in behind Greasey.
- 1:59:37From the Denver 26 yard line on second down and 10.
- 1:59:41Greasey barks the signal.
- 1:59:43And there is some contact made.
- 1:59:45Cooley jumps and coming across the line of scrimmage was Leroy Mitchell, the left cornerback.
- 1:59:50And the Dolphins are going to be called for illegal procedure.
- 1:59:54And Mitchell did a very smart thing as we learned from the officials.
- 1:59:57They do not call in motion on one jump unless the defense reacts.
- 2:00:02And all Mitchell did was let Cooley take the jump and then Mitchell just took a step and bam, that's five yards.
- 2:00:06They call it offside.
- 2:00:09Though the Dolphins are penalized five yards.
- 2:00:11Second down and 15 from the Denver 31 now.
- 2:00:15Cooley looks to the right.
- 2:00:17Warfield left.
- 2:00:182.37 left to play from the Denver 31 yard line on second and 15.
- 2:00:24Here is Greasey dropping back to throw.
- 2:00:26Looks to the left side.
- 2:00:27Warfield got it at the 10.5 touchdown Dolphins.
- 2:00:33George Thames had a shot at him at the five yard line and missed it.
- 2:00:40Warfield just gave a hip and took it away.
- 2:00:42And Cornell Green also had a stab at him, but he couldn't hold on to him.
- 2:00:46So the Dolphins with Greasey to Warfield finally unload from the 31 yard line.
- 2:00:51He caught the ball at the 15 and swivel hip is way into the end zone.
- 2:00:55It's now 10 to 9.
- 2:00:5726 yards and three plays.
- 2:00:59The 31 yard touchdown pass from Greasey to Warfield.
- 2:01:03Noonan will hold.
- 2:01:05Yipremian will try to point from placement.
- 2:01:072.30 left to play in this football game.
- 2:01:09Carroll can tie it up.
- 2:01:11Waiting for the snap.
- 2:01:12There it is.
- 2:01:13Set down.
- 2:01:14The kick is up.
- 2:01:15It's perfect.
- 2:01:16Wait a minute.
- 2:01:17Yes it is.
- 2:01:18It's good.
- 2:01:19The score is Miami 10 and Denver 10.
- 2:01:21We'll hold it here.
- 2:01:23We're looking at Larry King and he says no more timeouts.
- 2:01:27I didn't see any flag down on the field.
- 2:01:2910 to 10 is score.
- 2:01:31So that makes you feel a little bit better.
- 2:01:33Now if we can hold them again and get the football back.
- 2:01:35They put Vicki Post and Dwight Harrison back to feel the kickoff.
- 2:01:4310-10.
- 2:01:44It's looked at the Dolphins about 57 minutes to get on the board.
- 2:01:52But Greasey coming through to pass to Warfield and Warfield shaking off.
- 2:01:56The ball is going in for the touchdown.
- 2:01:58And your premier has converted.
- 2:02:00Rick, Greasey has thrown to Warfield six times for 170 yards.
- 2:02:0628 points something average.
- 2:02:07An amazing afternoon for Paul.
- 2:02:09Henry?
- 2:02:10Don Schue is conferred with Garrow.
- 2:02:11Watch for a swift kick or an onside kick.
- 2:02:19All right.
- 2:02:20We've got Post and Harrison back as a deep man.
- 2:02:22And a couple of linebackers up as the blocking cartons.
- 2:02:25Let's see what the Dolphins' strategy is here.
- 2:02:27Here's a whistle.
- 2:02:28Your premier in forward.
- 2:02:29He gets the ball high at the deep kick.
- 2:02:32Back in the end zone.
- 2:02:33Here's Post.
- 2:02:35Starts out at the 5, the 10.
- 2:02:37He is hit, breaks off a tackle, and is written out of bounds at the 14-yard line by Curtis Johnson.
- 2:02:45Curtis Johnson is the man who hit them.
- 2:02:47Post grabbed the ball in behind the goalpost and runs it out.
- 2:02:50So we've got 219 to play.
- 2:02:52They mark the ball at the 13-yard line.
- 2:02:54Jack Gurkey will be one of the wide receivers as he's just coming in.
- 2:02:58And remember, the Broncos have three timeouts left.
- 2:03:00The Dolphins only one.
- 2:03:02And we have 219 left.
- 2:03:03We will have the automatic warning at two minutes.
- 2:03:06All right.
- 2:03:07The Broncos moving from our left to our right have the ball up their 13-yard line.
- 2:03:11Door tied 10-10 with 219 left to play.
- 2:03:16Wide receivers will be Harrison's foot to the near side, Gurkey off to the far side,
- 2:03:20Anderson in the middle, a setback in behind Horn.
- 2:03:23Here is the handoff going to Little, a sweep to the left side, gets to the line of scrimmage,
- 2:03:27and it's back to the ground across the 15- to the 16-yard line.
- 2:03:32As the Dolphins' defense rises up, tackled by Manny Fernandez,
- 2:03:37and they mark it out to the 16.
- 2:03:39They'll gain a three on the play.
- 2:03:41It'll be second down and seven.
- 2:03:43There is the two-minute warning.
- 2:03:45There is a timeout on the field with the score Miami 10, Denver 10.

- 2:04:50Two minutes left, 10-10 tie, the ball at the 20.
- 2:04:57The Broncos set to put it in play, the referee's telling them,
- 2:05:00hold it, let's get in a station break.
- 2:05:01This is the Miami Dolphins football network.
- 2:05:03This is WIOD Miami. It's 6.30.
- 2:05:08Tommy Bell says let's go and Rick Weaver says the same.
- 2:05:17The ball is at the 16 yard line in Denver territory, a second down and seven.
- 2:05:21Exactly two minutes left to play in the ball game, the score tied 10-10.
- 2:05:25Whalen is the tight end and we've got Simmons and Harrison as the wide receivers.
- 2:05:31Floyd Little and Bob Anderson will be the running backs.
- 2:05:34Good quarterback Don Horn. Dolphins just tying it up on a 31 yard touchdown pass
- 2:05:41from Gracie to Warfield.
- 2:05:43Ready to go from the Denver 16 yard line, second down and seven.
- 2:05:47Simmons splits to the near side, Harrison to the far side.
- 2:05:50Horn back to his right, ball down and is contained back at the six yard line.
- 2:05:55Manny Fernandez was on top of him.
- 2:05:57Horn just had his feet go out from under him.
- 2:06:00We've got some of that new turf they put in on the baseball diamond here,
- 2:06:04lots of about, see where they're going to put it down.
- 2:06:08Down back at about the seven yard line, he lost nine.
- 2:06:11It'll be third down and 17.
- 2:06:13Larry says it's the first dump for the Dolphins.
- 2:06:17Well, he had a little bit to do with it himself.
- 2:06:19151 left to go in the ball game, score tied 10-10.
- 2:06:22Third and long yardage, back at the Denver seven yard line.
- 2:06:27Let's see what Horn comes up with.
- 2:06:29He's got Simmons spread to the near side of the field.
- 2:06:32At the line of Scrimmage, Horn barks out the signals on the long count.
- 2:06:36Pitch out, goes to Little, sweeps to left side and has run out of bounds
- 2:06:40at about the 10 yard line and the fans are cooling that call.
- 2:06:44Jesse Powell ran him out.
- 2:06:45It'll be a punting situation.
- 2:06:47And a tremendous break for Miami because the clock stops.
- 2:06:50And there's a minute 30 left.
- 2:06:52The Dolphins have one timeout left.
- 2:06:54The Broncos did not use any of theirs.
- 2:06:57They're tied at three and now if they can get another poor punt here
- 2:07:00and field position, there is always another chance for Garrow.
- 2:07:04Let's go down to Henry Barrow.
- 2:07:06On the sideline, Don Shue and Bob Greasy and the whole offensive unit
- 2:07:09deciding what to play they'll use in the next series when they get the ball.
- 2:07:12Dan Hughes at about five yards deep in the end zone.
- 2:07:14The line of Scrimmage is the Denver 10 on the punt situation.
- 2:07:17Scott and Anderson back to field the punt.
- 2:07:19Here's the snap.
- 2:07:20He gets it out of there.
- 2:07:22High end over end kick.
- 2:07:24The ball is grabbed at the 46-yard line by Scott to the far sideline.
- 2:07:27Forty-five, forty-three-five, still going.
- 2:07:30Inside the booty, the ball, who got it?
- 2:07:33Denver recovers at their 23.
- 2:07:37Scott with a great return, could not hold out of the football.
- 2:07:40And Denver takes over at their 23-yard line.
- 2:07:4336-yard punt and Scott returned it.
- 2:07:4623 yards.
- 2:07:48Bobby Anderson recovered it.
- 2:07:50And now Denver has the ball back.
- 2:07:53Denver calls a timeout using their first timeout of this second half.
- 2:07:57Scores tied 10-10 a minute and 14 seconds to go.
- 2:08:00Larry?
- 2:08:01This has been an incredible half of football.
- 2:08:03The Dolphins, except for one series of downs, have totally controlled the second half.
- 2:08:08They have been able to muster seven points.
- 2:08:11The Broncos had one long sustained drive capped off by the touchdown.
- 2:08:15Been able to do nothing else.
- 2:08:17The Dolphins have gotten tremendous breaks,
- 2:08:19including a horn pitch out to Little to give them the timeout.
- 2:08:22A poor punt, not much field coverage, and not a high punt,
- 2:08:25and Scott a brilliant punt return, and then the fumble.
- 2:08:28That's the Dolphins' third fumble and the third Bronco recovery.
- 2:08:32Denver has not fumbled.
- 2:08:34Third Dolphins fumble, third Denver recovery,
- 2:08:37and you don't win football games that way.
- 2:08:39As they are discovering here, now Miami must dig in
- 2:08:42and prevent Denver from moving the ball upfield and try to get in the field all-range.
- 2:08:47Minute 14, last year's record.
- 2:08:49All right, Horn over here conversing with head coach Lou Saban along the sideline.
- 2:08:54Jake Scott over talking with Don Schulip.
- 2:08:57And Denver off that unfortunate break.
- 2:08:59The Dolphins a great return, and Scott was just getting up ahead of steam.
- 2:09:04He was searched, and then he came up with empty hands.
- 2:09:08Denver has the ball up their 23-yard line.
- 2:09:10A minute and 14 seconds left to play.
- 2:09:13The score is tied 10 to 10.
- 2:09:16Simmons is the wide receiver to the near side.
- 2:09:18Harrison slips to the left.
- 2:09:21Whaling the tight end, Anderson and Little a setback from the eye and behind Don Horn.
- 2:09:25First down Denver from their 23-yard line.
- 2:09:28Long count. Here's the handoff.
- 2:09:30Little slants it across left tackle, and it's flattened out at the 25-yard line.
- 2:09:34Really hip.
- 2:09:36The Dolphins going a little searching themselves underneath that pile.
- 2:09:39He held onto the football.
- 2:09:42Van Pooing, of course, as Denver appears to be playing for the tie.
- 2:09:46Ball at the 25, a second down at 8.
- 2:09:4953 seconds left to go.
- 2:09:51And the football game is score tied 10 to 10.
- 2:09:54And the fans are very upset with this strategy here thus far.
- 2:10:00Here's Horn, hence the little he gets for the 26, 27-yard line.
- 2:10:04Getting the middle before he is knocked off his feet.
- 2:10:07Miami has just one timeout left, and Denver calls their other ones.
- 2:10:12So they still have one left.
- 2:10:14That's the clock with 33 seconds to go.
- 2:10:17They mark the ball at the 27.
- 2:10:20It'll be third down at about 6.
- 2:10:2333 seconds showing on the clock.
- 2:10:25Next ball to Conny goes over to the far side line to talk to Don Shulip.
- 2:10:29Score tied 10 to 10.
- 2:10:30Listen to the crowd in the background. They don't like this at all.
- 2:10:33Now what Miami must try to do is stop this play, call a quick timeout,
- 2:10:36which will be their last, and force Denver to punt.
- 2:10:40And they're literally going to have to run that punt back all the way.
- 2:10:43There are 33 seconds remaining.
- 2:10:45Both teams have one timeout left.
- 2:10:47Horn has a third down, six.
- 2:10:49Will he pass or won't he?
- 2:10:50If he doesn't, you will hear it from the crowd.
- 2:10:53The ball at the Denver 27-yard line.
- 2:10:5633 seconds left to go.
- 2:10:57Third down and six for Denver.
- 2:10:59This is the big play of the game.
- 2:11:02Harrison puts a couple of yards left.
- 2:11:04Simmons to the right side.
- 2:11:06Horn sets his ball club from the 27.
- 2:11:10At the line of scrimmage.
- 2:11:12Here's the pitch going a little.
- 2:11:14Let's wait for the right side.
- 2:11:15He is up across the 30.
- 2:11:17Still going, and I believe, in fact I know, he's got the first down
- 2:11:20as you run out of bounds here on the near side of the field at the 38-yard line.
- 2:11:25By Tim Foley.
- 2:11:27And Denver picks up the first down to hold out of the football.
- 2:11:30That stops the clock with 27 seconds left to play.
- 2:11:35They have the ball at their 38.
- 2:11:37Oh, the county goes out and Matheson comes in as middle linebacker for Miami.
- 2:11:4127 seconds to go.
- 2:11:43Ten to ten the scores.
- 2:11:46First and ten, Broncos ball at their 38-yard line.
- 2:11:50They come out of the huddle.
- 2:11:52They send Harrison off to the left side.
- 2:11:54Or check it, Simmons to the left, Harrison to the near side.
- 2:11:57Anderson in the middle, in behind Horn.
- 2:12:00Horn drops back to throw.
- 2:12:02Wings went out.
- 2:12:03Anderson got it to the far sideline of 40.
- 2:12:0545 right out of bounds at the 50-yard line by his brother Dick.
- 2:12:09Dick Anderson belted Bob right at the midfield stripe.
- 2:12:1312 yards on the swing pass from Horn to Bob Anderson, another first down.
- 2:12:19Out of bounds, stops the clock with 21 seconds.
- 2:12:22And they are at the midfield stripe.
- 2:12:25Score tied ten to ten.
- 2:12:28This one has had a lot of drama.
- 2:12:31Excellent line play.
- 2:12:33Dolphins haven't been able to haul out of the football.
- 2:12:37But, obviously, the defense has done a great job for Miami.
- 2:12:42Ball at the 50-yard line.
- 2:12:44Long time back in the huddle for Horn.
- 2:12:46Now he breaks them out.
- 2:12:4721 seconds to go.
- 2:12:49They want to get in a field goal range.
- 2:12:51Harrison's foot flip.
- 2:12:52Simmons to the near side.
- 2:12:54On the snap, Horn prints back to his right, sets the throw.
- 2:12:58Flag down.
- 2:12:59It is dropped.
- 2:13:00Incomplete of 30.
- 2:13:01It's Jennifer Simmons.
- 2:13:02Foley is the man who covered on the play.
- 2:13:04The fielding call is going to be made against the Denver Broncos on the pass protection.
- 2:13:09And it looks to me like it was called on Sam Brunelli, the left guard.
- 2:13:15That steadily stops the clock with 15 seconds.
- 2:13:18And one of the tough part about the fumble recoveries were that both Bunacani's fumble and Scott's fumble were on the Denver 25-yard line in between the 25 and 20.
- 2:13:29Two scoring threats.
- 2:13:30Garrow has missed three field goal attempts.
- 2:13:33It's been a very, very frustrating afternoon for Mr. Schuhlander's friends.
- 2:13:38Well, the penalty sets the ball back to the Denver 35 from whence it will be a first and 25.
- 2:13:44Most important situation, however, is there are just 15 seconds left to go in the ballgame.
- 2:13:50Heinz is out and the Dolphins have the four linebackers in as Bunacani is in.
- 2:13:56They attribute it now to Mike Currant, the right tackle holding call.
- 2:14:00Here is the handoff, a little sweep to the right side.
- 2:14:02Is knocked to the ground at the 38-yard line, a three-yard gain.
- 2:14:06Doug Swift, the left linebacker, makes the stop.
- 2:14:08Six seconds, five seconds, four seconds, three seconds, two seconds, one second.
- 2:14:14And there is the end of the ballgame and the fans leftfully booing the Denver Broncos for not going for the bomb.
- 2:14:21The final score, Denver 10, Miami 10, we'll be back with the final wrap-up in one minute.
- 2:14:26You've heard it said, there's a first time for everything.
- 2:14:34If you need to borrow for the first time, consider household finance.
- 2:14:38Why household? Because HFC is the most experienced lending company.
- 2:14:43Household knows more about solving all kinds of money problems because they've helped more people for more years than anyone else in the business.
- 2:14:50Last year alone, over two and a half million families borrowed from household.
- 2:14:55For many, it was the first time they borrowed and they chose HFC.
- 2:14:58When the need arises, you should too.
- 2:15:01A good reason for borrowing is a good reason for lending.
- 2:15:08And the good place to borrow is household finance.
- 2:15:15At household finance, you may borrow up to $600 and choose from a wide variety of repayment plans.
- 2:15:21HFC has offices in all the principal cities throughout Florida.
- 2:15:31So the Dolphins and Broncos opened the 1971 National Football League season playing through a 10-10 tie game.
- 2:15:36It'll be talked about all week long.
- 2:15:38I'm sure heavily in both cities, the Dolphins moving the ball pretty well and turning up fruitless and hopeless in a tie.
- 2:15:46And the Broncos being lustily booed, Luz Saban and his crew, and they threw things down on the field too as Denver went off.
- 2:15:53Final comments at the empty Dolphins bench from Henry Barrow.
- 2:15:57Well, there's a lot of comments coming from the fans.
- 2:15:59They're still getting on to Luz Saban.
- 2:16:01All kinds of comments, most of them, we can't repeat, but the most common one heard is, Saban, you're as bad as Notre Dame.
- 2:16:07The fans didn't like the fact that Saban, in their opinion, was playing for the tie.
- 2:16:12Otherwise, I think many points of concern in this ball game, one is Garrow Eupremien's kicking.
- 2:16:18It was really bad today, there's no doubt about that.
- 2:16:22You figure nine more points on the board had Garrow been kicking, and that was a win in the ball game.
- 2:16:28Also, the offensive line was having its problems, but there in the late in the third quarter, in the fourth quarter,
- 2:16:35the offensive line seemed to be able to contain the Denver Broncos, so there's hope there.
- 2:16:40We'll be right back.
