- 0:06When a young family seeking a bright future moves into a new
- 0:10house, it seems as if their dreams have come true until a
- 0:15malevolent force makes itself known.
- 0:18Tormented visions and violent attacks leave them all
- 0:22questioning just what insidious force slithers behind the walls
- 0:27of their new home. Will they make it out alive?
- 0:31Or will the entity known as? Sally.
- 0:33Keep them as playmates forever. This is a case I have personal
- 0:38experience with and it certainly is very unnerving.
- 0:42I wouldn't recommend watching this video in the dark unless
- 0:45you like a challenge. Located in northeast Kansas is a
- 0:52town known as Atchison, situated on the Bluffs of the Missouri
- 0:57River and offering sweeping views of the River Valley
- 1:00beyond. Grand Victorian homes and
- 1:03cobblestone roads recall glorious days when wealthy
- 1:07lumber merchants and railroad magnates once occupied the town.
- 1:12But as one walks the streets today, they can't help but feel
- 1:16a tingle down their spine and a cold shutter in their soul.
- 1:21It seems to be a kind of hotspot that harbors otherworldly
- 1:24forces. The time is March of 1993.
- 1:29Newly married couple Tony and Deborah Pikman begin renting a
- 1:33house in Atchison. After weeks of unboxing their
- 1:36belongings, their new house is finally starting to feel like a
- 1:40home. In the words of Tony Pikman, we
- 1:44had finally moved into a new place.
- 1:47My wife was expecting and we were just very much looking
- 1:50forward to starting a family together.
- 1:52It was a good time for us and with Deborah Pikman later saying
- 1:57that we thought the home was perfect for us.
- 2:00It was spacious, it had several bedrooms, and we just knew that
- 2:05it was the perfect house. But what they failed to realize
- 2:09was that this house was far from perfect for anyone.
- 2:14After about a month of living there, strange things began to
- 2:18occur. First, the TV began to turn on
- 2:21and off by. Itself.
- 2:23And small objects like their keys began to move on their own.
- 2:28Thinking that perhaps they were misremembering where they had
- 2:30placed their keys and the TV turning on and off was possibly
- 2:35faulty wiring, they contacted their landlord about the matter.
- 2:40But after having an electrician come out, you would find nothing
- 2:43wrong with the wiring. Although old, it was functioning
- 2:47as intended. Although the Pikmins thought the
- 2:51happenings were strange, they simply overlooked them.
- 2:56Later that summer, Deborah would give birth to a baby boy who
- 2:59they would name Taylor. And when the young family comes
- 3:02back home from the hospital, Deborah's sister Karen flies in
- 3:06from Buffalo, NY to help her sister get some much needed rest
- 3:10as she begins to heal from giving birth and starts
- 3:13adjusting to taking care of a newborn.
- 3:16Although the help is greatly. Appreciated, it seems to pass
- 3:20quickly. Although the Pikmans are still
- 3:23adjusting to the late night cries of their newborn son, his
- 3:27Christ seemed to wake up more than just his parents.
- 3:31One afternoon, while Tony hangs pictures upstairs, he sees a
- 3:35shadow move out of the corner of his eye.
- 3:38He then hears the giggle. Of a little girl.
- 3:42Finding this odd, he glances around his general area, and
- 3:46it's here that he discovers something even stranger.
- 3:50There and his son's nursery on the floor is all of Taylor,
- 3:54stuffed animals neatly arranged in a circle.
- 3:58Thinking this was bizarre, they ultimately would laugh it off,
- 4:03thinking that perhaps someone they knew had to come into the
- 4:05home and played a prank on them, that perhaps they didn't notice
- 4:09it until now. They thought that maybe Tony's
- 4:12brother Alan, who was a known prankster, was to blame.
- 4:16Laughing it off, they went back to what they had been doing
- 4:19previously. It wasn't until a few minutes
- 4:22later that Deborah would walk back by the nursery and notice
- 4:26the exact same thing had occurred again.
- 4:29All of her son's stuffed toys were arranged in a circle and
- 4:33all facing outward yet again on the floor.
- 4:37Now unsure of what was causing these strange happenings, they
- 4:41checked all their windows and doors.
- 4:44They were all locked. If it was Tony's brother Allen,
- 4:48they don't know how he would have been getting in and out
- 4:51without any of them noticing and within a matter of minutes the
- 4:55following morning, Tony had his brother come over to their
- 4:59house. It's important to note that
- 5:01Allen did live next door to the Pigments at this time, once they
- 5:05had all gotten settled on the couches in the living.
- 5:08Room. Tony began to ask.
- 5:11So, Allen, just how did you get in and out of our house last
- 5:14night without any of us noticing?
- 5:16It was in this moment that Tony began to worry.
- 5:20Although he and his brother had always played tricks on one
- 5:23another, his brother wasn't known to be a liar.
- 5:27Alan looked back at him, genuinely confused.
- 5:30He told Tony that he had no idea what he was talking about, that
- 5:34he wasn't even home last night. Finding an opportunity for a
- 5:38laugh, however, Allen then starts asking Tony if he thinks
- 5:42that he has a ghost. He then takes his brother's
- 5:45camera and starts snapping photos around the house while
- 5:49asking is there a presence here with us and if so, make the
- 5:54stuffed animals move again. Do something As Tony and Deborah
- 5:59follow Allen, the three are then left in utter shock as a stuffed
- 6:04bear sitting on a nearby small chair is suddenly thrown onto
- 6:08the floor by something they can't see.
- 6:12Taking what they had just seen as some kind of a warning, Tony,
- 6:16Deborah and Allen take baby Taylor and rush outside into the
- 6:21family's vehicle as the baby cries.
- 6:24As Tony buckles them into the car seat, Tony cries as well,
- 6:28but out of pain. He suddenly feels a sharp
- 6:31stinging sensation coming from his back.
- 6:34Thinking it was a bee sting or a spider bite, he finishes
- 6:38buckling the baby in and then. Closes the door.
- 6:42He figures he'll check it out later.
- 6:45Allen then heads back to his house next door and Debbie and
- 6:48Tony with their baby drive across town to Tony's parents
- 6:52house. After arriving, the stinging
- 6:56sensation on Tony's back has only grown more noticeable.
- 6:59Again thinking it was a bee sting or a spider bite, he
- 7:04finally has his wife take a look at it.
- 7:07Upon lifting up his shirt she starts to freak out.
- 7:11From Tony's lower back to up by his shoulder blades are what
- 7:15appear to be 3 very distinct and fresh claw marks.
- 7:20Her anxiety is soon felt by everyone in the house.
- 7:25After discussing what had been occurring amongst themselves,
- 7:29the Pikmans now think that what they could be experiencing may
- 7:33be evil. Coming to this conclusion leaves
- 7:36their heads spiraling, making them ponder a number of
- 7:40questions. Just what will they do?
- 7:44Will they go back to the house? Where could they go if they
- 7:47don't? And much more.
- 7:50Together, Debbie and Tony do their best to calm down and to
- 7:55face the decision that they have to make head on as a couple.
- 7:59In Tony's words, we were newly married.
- 8:02We had just started a family. We didn't have the money or the
- 8:06resources to be able to afford to move again.
- 8:09We were essentially bled out. We had a baby and we needed a
- 8:14place to stay. So we decided to go back that
- 8:17night. Although incredibly apprehensive
- 8:20about doing so, the Pikmins seemingly have no other choice.
- 8:25The following day, Tony meets up with his brother Alan yet again.
- 8:30Alan seems to have an idea on how to tackle the situation.
- 8:34Alan tells Debbie and Tony that his boss's sister is a psychic
- 8:37medium, and he thinks that they should invite her to try and
- 8:41figure out what could be residing within the house and if
- 8:44she's able to decipher that, finding this proposal weird
- 8:48because they've never delved into anything like this.
- 8:50Before. But feeling like it couldn't
- 8:52hurt to give it a try, they agreed to have Alan reach out
- 8:56and ask her to come to the house.
- 8:59Three days later, she would arrive.
- 9:01Her name was Barbara. Originally based out of
- 9:04California, she actively engaged in psychic work and lectured at
- 9:09various universities about parapsychology.
- 9:13Not having been given any information about the house or
- 9:15its history, she sat in the living room and explained to the
- 9:19Pikmans what it was that she did, and then asked them to tell
- 9:23her everything that had occurred up until that point so that she
- 9:27could fully grasp. The whole picture.
- 9:29After they went through it all with Barbara, she then asked
- 9:32them to visit the nursery to begin.
- 9:35Tony would later say that I don't really believe in
- 9:38psychics, so I kind of blew her. Off at first.
- 9:42I didn't know what to think. Barbara begins her process and
- 9:46quickly begins to lose her breath.
- 9:49She starts choking and coughing. She then flees the room, heading
- 9:53for the basement below. Tony later would say that she
- 9:57told us that whatever was here didn't want us here and that it
- 10:00doesn't like anyone in this room referring to the nursery.
- 10:05As the pigments follow Barbara down the stairs, she soon stops
- 10:09at the bottom of them, begins to sense another spirit, but this
- 10:14one doesn't seem ominous. She discovers that the spirit is
- 10:18that of a 7 year old little girl named Sally.
- 10:21She believes. Sally passed away.
- 10:23Within the home itself, she also would come to the conclusion
- 10:27that it was Sally who had attacked Tony, believing that
- 10:30baby Taylor was hers to protect. She had become territorial
- 10:36between Deborah and Barbara. They come to the consensus that
- 10:39Sally is a guardian of sorts, that it would be a good idea to
- 10:43set aside a space for her and to give her some toys of her own to
- 10:48appease her. Tony, however, thought that this
- 10:51wasn't a good idea at all. He still believed that whatever
- 10:54dwelled within their house was malevolent and evil.
- 10:59That it was a bad. Idea for them to interact with
- 11:01whatever this thing was in any way, shape or form.
- 11:06However, disregarding her husband, Deborah does exactly
- 11:10this. After the psychic departs
- 11:14several days later, Deborah would go shopping for toys for
- 11:18Sally, hoping that her offerings would appease the spirit and all
- 11:22would be well. She also picks up the developed
- 11:26film from the photos that Tony took during the psychics visit.
- 11:31Excited to see if any of them contained an image of Sally, she
- 11:34quickly opens up the envelope to look at them.
- 11:38What she sees. However, disturbs her.
- 11:42Several of the photos are bizarrely distorted, and one
- 11:46even contains some kind of malignant looking black BLOB.
- 11:51Horrified, Deborah rushes back home with the photos and the
- 11:55toys in hand. Walking through the front door,
- 11:59she immediately shows Tony having been the one who took the
- 12:03photos. He doesn't know what to make of
- 12:06the anomalies. One photo in particular catches
- 12:10his attention in his own words. The picture that really got me
- 12:15as we were walking down the stairs with Barbara, I turned
- 12:19around and took a picture and floating mid air is this thing.
- 12:25I couldn't explain it, it made me scared.
- 12:29Following looking at the photos, Deb once again references
- 12:33Barbara's convictions and continues to believe that Sally
- 12:36is a protector. She then continues with her plan
- 12:40and makes a dedicated space for Sally and adds the toys to it.
- 12:46Although Tony believes that the force haunting their home is
- 12:48evil, things do seem to go dormant for a short period of
- 12:52time following the offerings to Sally.
- 12:56However, this piece would not last.
- 12:59Several weeks later, Deb's sister Karen would return again
- 13:03for a follow up visit, and this time along with her husband.
- 13:08As the couples catch up on what's been happening in their
- 13:10lives, Deborah and Tony walk into the kitchen and grab
- 13:14themselves and their guests some more food and drinks.
- 13:18Their nice evening is soon interrupted by a piercing scream
- 13:23there before Karen and her husband, a stuffed animal, the
- 13:27same one that had fallen before, that was sitting in one of the
- 13:31chairs, had suddenly and spontaneously caught fire before
- 13:37their very eyes. As Tony and Deborah rushed back
- 13:40into the living room, they too were left flabbergasted at the
- 13:44sight. Tony then rushes in with a towel
- 13:47to extinguish the fire. In his own words, if it can do
- 13:52this, what's keeping it from setting one of us on fire or
- 13:56hurting us or harming the baby? Following the flames of the
- 14:02previous evening, Deborah tries to convince her husband that the
- 14:05fire was an isolated incident. And for the next two weeks,
- 14:10thanks at the house remain eerily calm.
- 14:14Tony, who works the overnight graveyard shift at a nearby
- 14:17grain elevator. Adjusts his day to his schedule.
- 14:22Upon returning home from work in the early morning hours, he
- 14:26tends to eat a meal when he gets home.
- 14:29One particular morning, following the calmness within
- 14:32the home, he grabs himself a glass of juice and something to
- 14:36eat. As he goes to place the pitcher
- 14:39of juice back in the refrigerator, he sees something
- 14:42move out of the corner of his eye.
- 14:45Turning his head, pitcher's still in hand, he sees the
- 14:49apparition of a young girl before him.
- 14:52Shocked, he drops the pitcher of juice and it shatters on the
- 14:57floor almost as soon as the pitcher had broke.
- 15:01As it smashed into the floor below, the apparition vanished.
- 15:06Paying no mind to it, Tony quickly runs upstairs where he
- 15:10greets his wife in their bedroom, barely able to get a
- 15:13word out he's finally able to say to her.
- 15:16I just saw Sally. Intrigued, Deborah immediately
- 15:21asked just what she looked like and then proceeds to bombard him
- 15:25with many more questions. Rather than being scared, Deb is
- 15:30elated. She's more curious than ever
- 15:33before in her own words. I was terribly jealous Tony got
- 15:39to see this little girl or the apparition of her.
- 15:43She's curious just why, of all people, Sally would reveal
- 15:46herself to Tony. She wonders why she didn't
- 15:49reveal herself to her. For the next two months, things
- 15:54once again go dormant within the home, But this too wouldn't
- 15:58last. One night, as the moon hangs
- 16:01high above the Pikmin residence as the couple sleeps, Tony is
- 16:06suddenly and violently pulled forward and then up and out of
- 16:10his bed by his arms, absolutely petrified.
- 16:15Tony screams as he realizes just what has taken place.
- 16:19He then as further bewildered as he looks down at his wrists.
- 16:24There on both of them were five distinct finger markings, as if
- 16:29someone or something had grabbed him.
- 16:32But the outline themselves weren't just there.
- 16:35These outlines looked like they were burns, as if the fingers
- 16:39themselves had been seared into his flesh.
- 16:43Blisters were now starting to form where each invisible hand
- 16:46had been. As he tries to come to terms
- 16:49with his terrifying ordeal, Deb still refuses to believe that it
- 16:53has anything to do with Sally. She thinks that his lack of
- 16:57sleep from being a new father and working the overnight shift
- 17:01started to get to him. However, upon seeing the
- 17:04blisters, she's almost in a sense of denial, saying that
- 17:09surely the spirit of a 7 year old girl would not be able to
- 17:12pull a grown man out of a bed or leave such marks.
- 17:17But if she somehow did, what was the message that she was trying
- 17:21to convey? Given everything that had taken
- 17:24place? A resentment began to build
- 17:26within Tony towards his wife. Accompanying this, he began to
- 17:31hear whispers on almost a daily basis.
- 17:34This would typically occur when he would lay down during the day
- 17:37to try and sleep. So he could get.
- 17:40Back up and work at the grain elevator.
- 17:43To him, the whispers did not sound like that of a child at
- 17:46all, but rather like 3 low voiced people speaking to one
- 17:51another. They would also seem so close as
- 17:55if they were talking simultaneously directly into
- 17:58his. Ears.
- 18:00During one particularly scary experience involving the
- 18:03whispering, Tony also begins to see items near the bed float and
- 18:08rotate by themselves as if suspended by an invisible force
- 18:14as he screams, wanting all of it to stop.
- 18:17He. Is greeted by his wife after
- 18:20explaining what he had just experienced.
- 18:23Unfortunately, she doesn't believe him given what he had
- 18:27been saying, that he had been seeing shadowy figures, hearing
- 18:32whispers, having nightmares as she perceived them.
- 18:36She thought that lack of sleep and stress was causing him to
- 18:40make things up. Tony is starting to believe that
- 18:43whatever force that haunts the house is targeting him, that
- 18:47it's attempting to manipulate his feelings.
- 18:50Coming to terms with this, he also realizes just how hard it's
- 18:54becoming to hide his growing resentment towards Deborah.
- 18:58He keeps having feelings of a dark rage well up inside him,
- 19:02feelings that he's worried could turn violent.
- 19:06In his own words. These feelings were not like me.
- 19:11I love her so much and I would never do anything to hurt her.
- 19:15But the longer we were there, the stronger these feelings were
- 19:19becoming. Tony, of course, wasn't the only
- 19:22one to notice these changes. Deborah noticed them too.
- 19:27There had been a large shift in his demeanor and attitude.
- 19:30He seemed angry, short fused, and argumentative.
- 19:36The couple began to fight almost daily, which hadn't been like
- 19:39them at all in the past. The Pikmans decide that they
- 19:43want to reach back out to Barbara for another consultation
- 19:47to see if they could potentially gain any new information on the
- 19:51presence that seemed to be everywhere and yet nowhere at
- 19:55the same time. In due time, Barbara again would
- 19:59visit them and upon her arrival would be told just how things
- 20:04had developed. She attempts to contact Sally
- 20:07once again after she believes she's made contact.
- 20:11With her. She then begins to sense a
- 20:14second entity. This one, however, is much older
- 20:18and seems to refuse to interact with her.
- 20:21She believes that this adult entity is a female and the one
- 20:25that has been targeting Tony and that Sally has been taking the
- 20:30blame. However, she comes to the
- 20:33conviction that whatever is happening within the home is
- 20:36beyond her expertise. What she does offer though, is
- 20:41that she would contact a very qualified group of paranormal
- 20:44investigators. Tony's reaction at first is
- 20:47harsh and in his own words, once again.
- 20:51At first I was like no way, we live in a small town, we'd be
- 20:55the laughingstock. If it wasn't a spirit in the
- 20:59house, then the only other thing that I could think it could be
- 21:03was the devil and that scared me to death.
- 21:07After discussing the matter further with his wife and
- 21:09Barbara, he finally agrees to give the Group A try.
- 21:14Within days the paranormal group would arrive.
- 21:18The group is led by, at that time, world renowned medium and
- 21:22paranormal researcher Peter James.
- 21:26In his words, a ghost is the ethereal double of its physical
- 21:30counterpart. We become a ghost depending on
- 21:33the circumstances in which we die.
- 21:36If we die untimely, tragically or violently, then we are
- 21:42rendered a ghost. I prefer not knowing any details
- 21:45about any specific haunting in which I investigate.
- 21:49It's my job to identify what's causing the activity, not being
- 21:54informed of the information previously, only that the family
- 21:58was young and had a young boy. As he sits in the living room
- 22:02and speaks with the Pikmans, he asked them if they had a young
- 22:06daughter as well, perhaps of seven or eight years old,
- 22:11telling him no. Peter remarked that it was
- 22:14strange because when he arrived, he saw such a young girl staring
- 22:19at them from one of the upstairs windows.
- 22:22Starting to explore the home, Peter begins to sense that there
- 22:26are two entities, one that is a child and the other an older
- 22:32adult woman who is very powerful.
- 22:36Upon asking the name of the entities out loud, he would
- 22:40reply with Sally. It's good to meet you.
- 22:45As he embarks up the stairs, he makes his way into the Pikmin's
- 22:49master bedroom and starts feeling the presence of the
- 22:52older female. As he steps further into the
- 22:55room with his crew and the Pikmin's behind him, Peter is
- 23:00suddenly thrown back against the door and almost simultaneously,
- 23:05Tony begins to scream in pain. My.
- 23:08Back, he says. Debbie lifts up his shirt and
- 23:12sees that once again his back is covered in fresh scratches, deep
- 23:17ones to the point to where they drew blood.
- 23:21Peter is astonished. He now knows that his older
- 23:24woman's presence is not a +1. Telling everyone not to let the
- 23:30entity know that they are afraid of it, they reluctantly press
- 23:34on. The crew spends the rest of the
- 23:36day investigating the home, and during this time, Peter once
- 23:40again begins walking back upstairs as if something or
- 23:45someone was calling out to him, and it's here that he begins to
- 23:49have a vision. In his vision, he's taken back
- 23:53into the past and he begins to see the spirits as they were in
- 23:58life. He believed that the home was
- 24:00once the home and practice of a medical physician.
- 24:05His housekeeper and her daughter lived there with him as well.
- 24:09The housekeeper was also his mistress and the daughter was
- 24:14also his. The housekeeper was African
- 24:17American and their daughter half and in such racially divided
- 24:23times, the affair and their secret child were kept hidden.
- 24:28Sally was her name and she was their seven-year old daughter.
- 24:33Peter believed that Sally had contracted pneumonia and her
- 24:36father, although a doctor, was unable to save her.
- 24:41Although the secret family and Sally's death are tragic, Peter
- 24:46tells the Pikmans that it's not fair for them to be victimized
- 24:49by the dead in their own home. That in order to rid themselves
- 24:53of this torment, that they must cleanse the house.
- 24:57That they were in control, but it was ultimately up to them to
- 25:01restore order. And with these words of advice,
- 25:05he and his crew would depart. The Pikmans decide that they
- 25:09will stay in the house and will do their best to set the rules
- 25:14and stand their ground. Several weeks pass and despite
- 25:18their best efforts, the atmosphere has only grown
- 25:22heavier, the torment even worse. Especially for Tony, his sleep
- 25:29has become even more scarce and his thoughts grow more and more
- 25:33evil. He can't shake the angry
- 25:36feelings and it's becoming more worried that he may end up
- 25:40harming his wife and or himself, that he feels as if this
- 25:45darkness is slowly consuming him.
- 25:49He finally confronts Deborah and explains exactly how he feels,
- 25:54that he believes that if they don't leave the house that
- 25:57something horrible may end up happening.
- 26:00Finally understanding the pressure her husband was under,
- 26:04she agrees with him and begins looking at ads for a new home
- 26:08for the family. In the meantime, Tony attempts
- 26:12to sleep due to work in the graveyard shift.
- 26:16As he lays in bed tossing and turning, he's once again
- 26:20consumed by the ever growing and almost overwhelming.
- 26:24Thoughts. Of wanting to harm his family.
- 26:28Feeling as if he was under attack, he rushes out of the
- 26:32room and yells for Deborah. He tells her to grab Taylor,
- 26:37that they were leaving, that he had finally reached his breaking
- 26:41point. Fortunately for the Pickman
- 26:43family, they find a house shortly after leaving what would
- 26:47become known as the Sally House. The heaviness, the anger, and
- 26:54the spiritual torment would cease.
- 26:58But given what the Pikmans had gone through, it's also
- 27:01important to note that the Sally House certainly has a dark and
- 27:05checkered history that existed long before their arrival.
- 27:10Originally built in 1867 by the Finney family, it served as a
- 27:16generational home. Several generations of the
- 27:19family lived there between 1867 and 1939.
- 27:25During that time, 5 confirmed deaths occurred within the
- 27:28family. Michael Finney in 1872, Charles
- 27:35Catherine's father, the wife of Michael Finney, Kate Finney and
- 27:40Richard Finney in 1874, and finally Agnes Finney in 1939.
- 27:47There are multiple stories about.
- 27:49Sally. That she passed away from
- 27:52pneumonia. The origin.
- 27:53I previously told him this story, but there is also another
- 27:57which I will tell you now. The story goes that Charles
- 28:01Finney, the son of Michael and Kate, became a doctor and made
- 28:06the house both his residence and his practice.
- 28:10The front served as an office space and an examination room
- 28:14while the family lived upstairs. One day a frantic mother arrived
- 28:20carrying her six year old daughter Sally, who had
- 28:23collapsed from severe abdominal pain.
- 28:26The doctor quickly diagnosed her with an appendicitis, and new
- 28:31surgery was urgent. Without delay, he prepped Sally
- 28:35for the operation using ether, the anesthesia that was
- 28:39available at that time. Tragically, Sally wasn't fully
- 28:44unconscious As the first incision was made.
- 28:48She screamed and thrashed in pain.
- 28:52Despite the doctor's efforts to restrain her and administer more
- 28:56anesthesia, Sally's condition worsened.
- 28:59She would go into shock and ultimately die on the operating
- 29:03table, her final moments filled with agony and fear.
- 29:10The home left the Finney family in 1939 and passed through
- 29:14various owners before becoming a rental property.
- 29:18At least one tenant may have been involved in satanic
- 29:21rituals, which some believe contributed to the sinister
- 29:25activity associated with the house.
- 29:28Paranormal Activity wasn't reported until Tony and Deborah
- 29:31Pikmin began renting the. House.
- 29:34Intrigued by the paranormal claims, the property owner, Les
- 29:38Smith, investigated and discovered a pentagram beneath
- 29:42the basement floorboards. Many believe that this may have
- 29:45been evidence of rituals that summoned something demonic.
- 29:49Subsequent investigations reveal blood evidence in the master
- 29:53bedroom closet and tattered clothing in the attic after the
- 29:57pigments. However, reports of electronic
- 30:00malfunctions, Evps, physical attacks, and other poltergeist
- 30:06activity have further cemented the house's reputation as a
- 30:10hotspot for paranormal occurrences.
- 30:14I've visited the Sally House myself.
- 30:16It was actually my very first paranormal investigation, albeit
- 30:21amateur at best at that time. It certainly was an excellent
- 30:24experience getting into the field, although for a variety of
- 30:28reasons, I don't think the Sally House is as haunted as it once
- 30:31was. However, we did experience a few
- 30:35strange things when I went with a few friends of mine.
- 30:38We arrived in the summer of 2022 and it was easily close to 100°F
- 30:44outside, and the home, being very old, didn't have great AC
- 30:50as we would later learn. However, when we stepped inside
- 30:54for the first time, we were taken aback because it was
- 30:57absolutely frigid by comparison. This blast of cold air only
- 31:02lasted several seconds. The temperature did not
- 31:06fluctuate like it had then for the rest of the night.
- 31:10I also remember personally checking the thermostat and it
- 31:14was set at like 85 or something crazy so the actual air
- 31:18conditioning wasn't even on until we turned it on.
- 31:21So I found that weird to say the least.
- 31:24The record player and TV turned on by themselves multiple times
- 31:28throughout the night, which of course we found odd.
- 31:32The old record player didn't have any sort of a timer
- 31:35whatsoever, and given the age of the CRTV as well, it didn't
- 31:39appear to have a timer that we could find that would have
- 31:42caused this. Besides some strange feelings
- 31:45throughout the day and then into the night, we didn't get a ton
- 31:49of interaction through the kitchen.
- 31:51Although it was blocked off, we decided to look past it and go
- 31:54down the stairs and witness the pentagram, which for one reason
- 31:58or another had been burned out on the floor in the basement.
- 32:02And I do have to say that the basement itself was extremely
- 32:05creepy. You could feel some very bad
- 32:07vibes originating from there. So I wouldn't be surprised if
- 32:11some kind of black magic ritual or rituals were potentially done
- 32:15down there. I almost forgot, but as I was
- 32:18reviewing the original footage, I did find that we did capture
- 32:22an EVP and I'll go ahead and play that for you now.
- 32:47With black mold in the walls of this very old home, we decided
- 32:51not to stay overnight because you weren't supposed to sleep
- 32:54there anyways. Having taken plenty of video and
- 32:58photo evidence, we began to place things we had taken from
- 33:02Sally's room back and when my friend, whose name is also Cody
- 33:06but with AC, placed one of those Magic 8 ball toys back on the
- 33:10bed, a touch activated toy decided to go off on its own.
- 33:14In this particular 1, you had to tap its head fairly hard to get
- 33:18it to go off. I remember all of us being
- 33:21freaked out by it. I remember it was extremely
- 33:24foggy that night, which added to the mystique, especially of my
- 33:28first paranormal adventure for sure.
- 33:31Or one that didn't occur of course, in in a home that I
- 33:34lived in. We took one last look at the
- 33:36Sally house before departing. Into our shock, all the lights
- 33:41decided to turn on within the home.
- 33:43From what we could see, both the upstairs and the main floor
- 33:47lights. The breaker was the original.
- 33:49So this too seems rather impossible to have just occurred
- 33:53on its own without some kind of ghostly intervention.
- 33:57Our code only worked for entering so we weren't able to
- 33:59get back into the home following this, but granted it was 2:00 AM
- 34:03at this point so we decided to drive home.
- 34:07We would hit a pothole and one of our tires kept going flat on
- 34:10our way home, which definitely was not fun all around.
- 34:15I would return, knowing what I know now and having much better
- 34:20equipment and resources and far more experienced friends by my
- 34:24side. I think we would catch a lot
- 34:27more. It's my belief that for one
- 34:30reason or another, that the Sally houses may be dormant or
- 34:33not as haunted as it once was, and that it's still very
- 34:37possible that a demonic presence still slithers within its walls,
- 34:42masquerading itself as the soul of a little girl named Sally.
- 34:47I took the original documentary down due to some copyrighted
- 34:50image issues earlier this year as well as the origin story that
- 34:54I had originally made, but I think I did a far better job
- 34:57this time. Anyways, some of the photos and
- 35:00footage I've shown you while explaining my trip there I
- 35:04originally took and filmed myself.
- 35:07The Sally House was made famous in part by the old show
- 35:10Sightings who filmed a segment for an episode on it which was
- 35:14picked up by local and then later national media.
- 35:18As well as Deborah Pikman would go on to write a book which I
- 35:21found to be a great read called The Sally House Haunting, which
- 35:25you can find on Amazon and I'll link it below.
- 35:29With that being said, would you like to see me return to the
- 35:32Sally House for a proper investigation and what are your
- 35:36thoughts on the case? What do you think is still
- 35:39haunting this Topeka, KS house? Let me know down in the comments

- 36:40I'll see you next time. Searching for the ideal place to
- 36:49settle, a young family moves into a new home, believing their
- 36:54prayers have been answered. However, just a year later, they
- 37:00find themselves gone, never to return.
- 37:04They're left questioning just who truly answered those prayers
- 37:07and what exactly invaded their lives.
- 37:11An enigmatic entity that perpetrated violence and terror
- 37:15upon them. The Untold story of the Black
- 37:19Monk of Pontifract. In September 1954, Bill Farah
- 37:47and his wife Barbara moved into a new home in the historic
- 37:51market town of Pontefract, England.
- 37:55They were a young family with a 2 year old daughter named Jane.
- 38:00At 30 E Drive with its three bedrooms, this should have been
- 38:05their ideal home. Yet less than a year later they
- 38:09moved out. The fairs quickly had grown
- 38:13terrified of their new home. Their dream had seemingly become
- 38:18a nightmare. Objects moved on their own,
- 38:22voices echoed and empty rooms and halls, and large rips and
- 38:27tears appeared on their furniture out of nowhere,
- 38:32forming an ominous atmosphere that began to smother them.
- 38:36All these events would culminate one night when Bill and Barbara
- 38:40found their daughter crying, her small face inexplicably covered
- 38:46in scratches, small trickles of blood dripping from each slash
- 38:52with no rational cause. The family had no pets to blame
- 38:57for their daughter Jane's injuries, and even after they
- 39:01placed cotton mitts on her hands, the wounds continued to
- 39:05appear. The poor child.
- 39:08Cried every night, leaving her parents scared and confused
- 39:13about what to do and just what could be happening.
- 39:18One day, Barbara frantically rushed upstairs at the piercing
- 39:22sound of her child's cries. What she discovered would shake
- 39:27her to her core. She would find a pillow placed
- 39:31over Jane's face as if someone or something was attempting to
- 39:37extinguish her young life. At that moment, the answer
- 39:42became clear. The family had to leave, and
- 39:46leave immediately. So they did.
- 39:50They would leave the house and its dark forces, friends and
- 39:55neighbors of the Pharaohs. The Pritchard family would be
- 39:59convinced by the Pharaoh family to switch homes with them,
- 40:03ultimately leaving them at the mercy of whatever malevolent
- 40:06forces that dwelt within the walls.
- 40:10August of 1966, the Pritchards would move into the old Pharaoh
- 40:15residence. Their new home was quite a bit
- 40:18larger than their last and seemed to be the answer to their
- 40:22prayers. The Pritchard family consisted
- 40:25of father Joe, mother Jean, and their small children, daughter
- 40:30Diane and son Philip. Shortly after moving in,
- 40:35however, the same strange occurrences began to manifest.
- 40:40Strange sounds such as banging and knocking began to be heard
- 40:45reverberating throughout the house with no rational origin.
- 40:51Horrid's smells began to waft throughout the house as well,
- 40:55again with no explanation as to what could be causing them.
- 41:00The children 1st and then the parents began to be terrified by
- 41:05a shadowy dark figure that began to make its presence known at
- 41:11various hours of the day and night, seemingly watching.
- 41:16Their every move. Gene Pritchard ended up giving
- 41:20the creepy figure several nicknames.
- 41:23She called it Fred and Mr. Nobody, but history would come
- 41:28to know the entity by a very different and certainly a
- 41:31scarier name by most standards. The black monk of Pontefract.
- 41:38The Pritchards, noticing that these happenings were far from
- 41:42normal, approached their former neighbors, the Pharaohs, and
- 41:47asked them if they had ever experienced anything weird when
- 41:51they had lived there. The Pharaohs would say no in
- 41:56August of 1980. The Pritchard family had long
- 42:01been suffering from the haunting.
- 42:04Colin Wilson, a well known writer on subjects including the
- 42:08paranormal and mysticism, visited the family after being
- 42:13tipped off by a local historian, a man named Tom Kun of.
- 42:18Kun of had stumbled across newspaper clippings from the
- 42:21late 1960s alleging that a Pontifract family had
- 42:26experienced poltergeist phenomena.
- 42:29As he dug deeper into the history of the area, he
- 42:32discovered a rather disturbing story, one that he believed
- 42:37could be connected to the haunting itself.
- 42:40In the 16th century, a monk was executed for the brutal assault
- 42:45and murders of several young victims.
- 42:49Upon reading that the family was being stalked by a shadowy,
- 42:52roped figure, he put two and two together during his research.
- 42:58Upon discovering that the family still lived in the same house,
- 43:02couldn't have contacted Wilson, prompting Wilson to journey to.
- 43:06Yorkshire to interview them. To see if perhaps they could get
- 43:10to the bottom of things. With the information provided by
- 43:14Wilson's records, a more detailed version of the haunting
- 43:18chronologically begins to emerge.
- 43:22According to Wilson's records, in August 1966, on that Thursday
- 43:28most of the family Joe Pritchard, his wife Jean and
- 43:33their 12 year old daughter Diane were on holiday in Devon,
- 43:38leaving their 15 year old son Philip and Jean's mother Sarah
- 43:42Scholes and her sister Marie at home.
- 43:46Philip had reached the age when family holidays had lost their
- 43:49appeal, so as most adolescents do, he spent much time to
- 43:54himself reading in the family garden.
- 43:58That Thursday, while outside, Philip returned indoors to get
- 44:02himself a drink. As he did this, he noticed
- 44:06something bizarre. His grandmother, sitting in the
- 44:10living room heavily focused on her knitting, was completely
- 44:14oblivious to a Gray hued cloud floating around her.
- 44:19Philip would later say that it was a chalk like powdery
- 44:23substance, and from this cloud it appeared to be falling from,
- 44:28not from the ceiling. The top half of the room was
- 44:31perfectly clear, and yet curious dust seemed to materialize from
- 44:37nowhere. Weirded out, Philip returned to
- 44:40the kitchen only to find several large pools of water covering
- 44:44the floor with no apparent origin.
- 44:48Then heading back to the living room, he saw the dust or a cloud
- 44:54had continued to fall like a miniature snowstorm, forming a
- 44:58fine white layer on the furniture and even on top of his
- 45:03grandmother. Rushing to another room to get
- 45:06his aunt's attention, he would bring her out into the living
- 45:09room or she would notice the very same thing.
- 45:13Unsure of just what it could be, she called to her mother to gain
- 45:17her attention and get her out of whatever the cloud or strange
- 45:22powder seemed to be. Heading towards the kitchen to
- 45:25get her cleaned up, she too would notice the puddles of
- 45:28water everywhere. As Marie tried to mop up in the
- 45:32kitchen, new puddles supposedly manifested.
- 45:36She would pull up the linoleum to reveal no leak underneath,
- 45:40and the water wasn't falling from above them either.
- 45:44So just like the dust in the other room, the puddles seemed
- 45:48to have come from nowhere. The odd drama intensified when,
- 45:52after the water supply to the house was turned off by a
- 45:55helpful neighbor, the water company was called to the
- 45:59property. Pipes were checked, the linoleum
- 46:03lifted once again and drains examined, but nothing was found
- 46:08to be broken or blocked. The water companies suggested
- 46:12that some strange condensation caused by the summer weather
- 46:16might be responsible, but after about an hour they left and the
- 46:22mysterious puddles stopped appearing.
- 46:26However, before the day ended, more odd happenings were
- 46:29reported. Sugar and tea leaves were
- 46:32emptied from their dispensers in the kitchen and sprinkled all
- 46:36across the countertops. Cupboards vibrated and shook and
- 46:41loud bangs were heard from upstairs.
- 46:44A plant which was usually located at the foot of the
- 46:47staircase was also mysteriously transported halfway up it's pot,
- 46:52found separately on the landing above.
- 46:56Unable to tolerate the house any longer, Philip and his
- 46:59grandmother left with and would spend the night with Aunt Marie
- 47:04Vick Kelly. Marie's husband, unhappy with
- 47:08the strange situation, reportedly phoned the police to
- 47:12check on the House with Victoria present.
- 47:16Upon law enforcement's arrival, everything seemed normal, with
- 47:21no intruder being found. Nothing else seemed out of place
- 47:25either, until they found a glass shattered on the floor and one
- 47:31of Joe and Gene Pritchard's wedding photos.
- 47:34The photo itself slashed from side to side as if with a sharp
- 47:40knife. Chilled to his.
- 47:42Core Victoria simply followed the officers back outside of the
- 47:47home and then closed the front door of 30 E Drive and returned
- 47:54to his home. When Jean, Joe and Diane
- 47:58returned from their holiday, Sarah relayed the unsettling
- 48:02events to them. There was a disbelief at first
- 48:06that as she spoke, everyone would hear three loud and
- 48:10distinct bangs reverberate throughout the home.
- 48:15Then a cold wind blew through the house, almost as if the
- 48:20entity had perhaps left. But that was far from what would
- 48:27happen. It was merely seemingly taking a
- 48:31break. According to testimonies
- 48:34recorded by Colin Wilson, the haunting truly resumed for the
- 48:38Pritchards in 1968 when Jean decided to redecorate Diane's
- 48:44bedroom. As I've noticed while studying
- 48:47numerous other hauntings, construction or redecoration are
- 48:52essentially changing. What once was seems to be a way
- 48:56to disturb or wake up whatever forces, good or bad, that could
- 49:02be dwelling within a space. Following this, mysterious
- 49:06temperature changes began to be experienced.
- 49:10Inexplicable bangs and knocks once again plagued the family
- 49:15and daily household items such as, in one instance, a
- 49:19paintbrush began to be flung across the room by unseen hands.
- 49:25One just so happened to barely miss Jean's face by mere inches
- 49:30during the remodel itself. It's even been claimed that
- 49:34Missus Pritchard witnessed in the dim moonlight one night as
- 49:39she went to the bathroom, a long strip of wallpaper standing on
- 49:44end and swaying like a cobra. When she attempted to grab it,
- 49:51the strip simply fell to the floor, causing a feeling of fear
- 49:56to grip her that one would seldomly experience otherwise
- 50:02horrifically within the same room that was being remodeled.
- 50:07Not too long after this occurred, the family vacuum flew
- 50:11into the air, swinging around as if wielded by giant and visible
- 50:18hands. Screaming, Jean dropped onto all
- 50:23fours and rushed back to her daughter as wallpaper and
- 50:28various objects continued to be thrown towards her.
- 50:32The unseen presence in the house had returned and it seemed more
- 50:36aggressive than ever, particularly fixated on Diane's
- 50:41bedroom. What followed was described as
- 50:44nine months of chaos in which all manner of violent activity
- 50:49was reported. Bangs and thumps echoed from
- 50:53Diane's bedroom with such physical aggression that she
- 50:57occasionally took to sleeping in her parents room.
- 51:01Ornaments were thrown and levitated, and lights flickered
- 51:05on and off repeatedly. One day, the entire contents of
- 51:11the family's China cabinet were reportedly hurled onto the
- 51:15floor, with not a single precious item being smashed or
- 51:20chipped in the process. One evening, a particularly
- 51:25chilling incident marked an escalation in the severity of
- 51:29the activity and Diane's room. Yet again, the lights randomly
- 51:34went out and a huge shadow appeared on the wall before her.
- 51:40As she witnessed this first hand in the hallway, her mother
- 51:44scrambled with a flashlight to try and turn the lights back on.
- 51:49As the teenage girl watched, a heavy oak hall stand floated
- 51:54into the air and rushed towards her with incredible speed.
- 52:00In her attempt to escape, Diane tripped and fell her back up
- 52:04against the stairs, with the hall stand being thrown on top
- 52:09of her. The weight of the piece of
- 52:11furniture pressed down on her small body, pinning her against
- 52:15the steps as she struggled to breathe and free herself.
- 52:21Another heavy object, a sewing machine that had been on top of
- 52:25the stand, was also thrown onto her.
- 52:29When the lights finally illuminated the scene, her
- 52:32family rushed to help, but the hall stand was too heavy and
- 52:37firmly positioned to move. Gene and Jo struggled to free
- 52:42their daughter, and yet, strangely, despite the pressure,
- 52:47Diane was unharmed. The heavy furniture was merely
- 52:52being held in place by some invisible force, enough to keep
- 52:57her trapped, but not to injure her.
- 53:01When instructed to release her, the force seemingly obliged,
- 53:07finally allowing the hall stand and sewing machine to be
- 53:11removed. The poltergeist then seemed
- 53:14particularly fascinated with Diane Pritchard.
- 53:17In addition to the hall stand incident, it was reported that
- 53:21she was tossed from her bed as many as four times in a night by
- 53:26the unseen entity. Her bedroom often turned icy
- 53:30cold, and she told her parents it felt as if though someone was
- 53:35present with her, always watching her and lurking just
- 53:40beyond her sight. On one occasion, while standing
- 53:44in the living room, combing her hair in front of a mirror, a
- 53:48brass crucifix that she found comfort in with her faith was
- 53:53thrown from a shelf and struck her in the back, sticking to her
- 53:58skin like a magnet. When the crucifix finally fell
- 54:03away, her mother inspected her and discovered a cross shaped
- 54:08red mark on her skin between her shoulder blades.
- 54:12The mark left reportedly lasted for days, showing the strong
- 54:17force of which it had been thrown with.
- 54:21Before long. The house at 30 E Dr. gained
- 54:25quite the local reputation after being featured in 2 Yorkshire
- 54:30newspapers in September of 1968. People either actively avoided
- 54:36the house or sought to engage with the alleged haunting.
- 54:41Ghost hunters attempted to gain admission into the residence and
- 54:45it was even reported that a group of students who requested
- 54:49permission to camp in the garden were forced to settle for the
- 54:53large round grass verge in front of the house when Gene Pritchard
- 54:58declined their request. However, even from that
- 55:02distance, the group claimed to still have heard an assortment
- 55:05of bangs and crashes. Along with this new found fame,
- 55:11it became commonplace for the Pritchard's family's neighbors
- 55:15to experience disturbances within their own homes, as the
- 55:19noises were reportedly that loud emanating from the Pritchard
- 55:23residence. When all the family's
- 55:26possessions upstairs in the bedrooms were allegedly thrown
- 55:30out of windows and onto the ground below, it was impossible
- 55:35for anyone in the area to deny that something bizarre was
- 55:39happening, something that no one could truly comprehend or truly
- 55:45understand. Eventually, the family began
- 55:48calling their unwanted houseguest Mr. Nobody, later
- 55:53nicknaming it Fred. Despite its attempts to force
- 55:56them out, however, the Prichard family remained.
- 56:00When a local preacher, a man named Reverend Davy, advised the
- 56:04family that something evil lurked in their home and that
- 56:08they should move, Gene reportedly scoffed at him,
- 56:12asking him why should I be driven out of my home by a
- 56:17ghost? This was certainly a testament
- 56:21to the family's resolve. No doubt.
- 56:25As the disturbances worsened and the activity further
- 56:28intensified, the family yet continued to persevere.
- 56:34Perfectly good and often newly purchased food would spoil
- 56:38something strange that became a calling card for the entity, as
- 56:42if whatever it was brought death and decay along with it.
- 56:48Aside from spoiling food, Mr. Nobody, as they called it, but
- 56:54also often smear jam on door handles and would often throw
- 56:58toilet paper all over the house. Fine China plates and cups would
- 57:03be thrown onto the floor, sometimes shattered and other
- 57:07times perfectly fine. But yet, despite being watched
- 57:12by the dark, robed figure that had plagued them for years and
- 57:16all of its accompanying terror, the family still refused to be
- 57:21chased away, even after both Jean and Joe saw the tall,
- 57:26shadowy figure with a hood standing in their bedroom
- 57:30doorway. They had been in bed when they
- 57:33heard the door creak open, and both turned to see the
- 57:37terrifying apparition. Others reported seeing the tall
- 57:41figure in a long hooded garment as well.
- 57:45At night, frightened family members heard loud, labored
- 57:49breathing outside of their doors.
- 57:52It became clear that Mister Nobody, or as he was
- 57:56increasingly known as the Monk, was gaining power.
- 58:01It was if the creature fed off of their fear.
- 58:05The activity would peak yet again one evening when all of
- 58:09the lights went out and Diane, along with her mother and
- 58:13brother, would experience something dark that none of them
- 58:18would ever forget. As the family huddled together
- 58:21in the dark, trying to find their way around the home, Diane
- 58:26suddenly, as if she had been grabbed by large, invisible
- 58:30hands, was forcibly dragged up the stairs by her throat.
- 58:36Colin Wilson, who documented the events in his book, noted that
- 58:40Diane's cardigan was stretched out in front of her as if the
- 58:44monk was tugging on it with one hand while gripping her neck
- 58:49with the other. Roused by her screams and gasps
- 58:53for air, Philip and Jean rushed to pull Diane back down the
- 58:57stairs, but they were both repelled, thrown back by what
- 59:02felt like large, clawed hands. Fighting for her life and on the
- 59:08verge of blacking out as she struggled, Diane fortunately
- 59:13would ultimately be freed almost as quickly as she had been
- 59:17attacked. Philip later explained that it
- 59:21was as though his thought of trying to touch the presence had
- 59:24caused it to release his sister. When the family inspected the
- 59:29profusely shaking and traumatized girl, once the
- 59:32lights turned back on, they would see red hand marks around
- 59:36her neck. To say they were terrified was
- 59:39perhaps an understatement. Although they collectively
- 59:43didn't want to leave their home, they desperately wished for the
- 59:47entity to depart. The family would contact
- 59:51religious figures, they would pray and sprinkle holy water
- 59:55throughout the entire property. But despite their best efforts,
- 1:00:00nothing seemed to work. In fact, these actions seem to
- 1:00:04exacerbate the disturbances, almost as if they were angering
- 1:00:09the entity itself with their efforts.
- 1:00:13One of Joe's friends. Recently returned from Scotland
- 1:00:17recounted how people there hung garlic over doors and windows to
- 1:00:22keep out spirits. Fascinatingly, when the
- 1:00:26Pritchards followed suit, the activity diminished, eventually
- 1:00:31disappearing altogether. Thus, what began for the
- 1:00:37Pritchards in August of 1966 ceased after two years by May of
- 1:00:441969. When Colin met with the family
- 1:00:47in 1980, he reported no ongoing activity, although it's not
- 1:00:53exactly clear when the home would eventually find its way
- 1:00:56into the hands of a man who's all too familiar with the
- 1:01:00paranormal, an investigator named Richard Estep.
- 1:01:05If these accounts are true, the events at 30 E Drive appear to
- 1:01:09be a classic case of poltergeist activity, similar to many other
- 1:01:14documented instances of spirit hauntings like the Enfield
- 1:01:19Poltergeist in 1977. The activity is often centered
- 1:01:24around adolescence, and there were adolescents present in this
- 1:01:28case as well. First a 15 year old Philip in
- 1:01:321966 and then an aged 15 Diane in 1968.
- 1:01:39Wilson oddly noted that nothing seemed to occur in the house
- 1:01:43while Diane was at school. Objects, even large and heavy
- 1:01:47items like solid oak furniture, were said to move on their own
- 1:01:51accord, Food too appearing irresistible to the entity.
- 1:01:57Food at 30 E Drive, besides rotting and being moved and
- 1:02:00displaced, would also mysteriously manifest bite
- 1:02:04marks. The appearance of puddles of
- 1:02:07water on the kitchen floor at the beginning of the Pontifrag
- 1:02:11case is also the hallmark of other poltergeist occurrences.
- 1:02:16The respected parapsychology researcher Guy Lyon Playfair
- 1:02:20suggested that the neat puddles found in the Prichard home and
- 1:02:24others allegedly haunted by poltergeists might be some form
- 1:02:28of condensation of the energy used by the entities.
- 1:02:33The activity disappearing is the children.
- 1:02:35Transition from adolescence to adulthood is also consistent
- 1:02:40with other poltergeist cases. Yet despite these claims, many
- 1:02:45argue that activity at 30 E Drive never truly ceased,
- 1:02:51asserting that it predates the Pritchards and their teenage
- 1:02:54children by over a decade. At the beginning of this story,
- 1:02:59I referenced A testimony from the Farrah family and their two
- 1:03:02year old daughter Jane, who had lived at the property before the
- 1:03:06Pritchard's. This particular testimony was
- 1:03:09presented in the 2019 book The Black Monk of Pomtefract and
- 1:03:14alleges horrific events, including the baby girl covered
- 1:03:18in scratch Marks and told of the attempted suffocation of the
- 1:03:22same child by what is presumed to be the same black monk entity
- 1:03:27that haunted the Pritchards. However, it's peculiar that Gene
- 1:03:31and Joe didn't report similar experiences regarding their
- 1:03:34young children having taken over 30 E Drive from the Pharaohs in
- 1:03:39the mid 1950s. By the time of the alleged onset
- 1:03:43of activity in August of 1966, they'd been in the house for
- 1:03:47several years. Yet, as far as we know, it
- 1:03:51didn't target them in the same way.
- 1:03:53But why would this be the case? Perhaps the poltergeist, or
- 1:03:57whatever it was, maybe a demonic entity, was in a state of
- 1:04:02paranormal hibernation for a decade or more and was woken up,
- 1:04:07so to speak, for one reason or another.
- 1:04:11Yet this inconsistency becomes all the more intriguing when one
- 1:04:14examines the 2019 book The Black Monk of Pontefract.
- 1:04:19Indeed, the authors of the text, paranormal researcher Richard
- 1:04:23Estep and the current owner of 30 E Drive, film producer Bill
- 1:04:28Bungie, argue that Bill Farah and his family represent a
- 1:04:32previously unknown origin of the Pontefract case in their book.
- 1:04:37This new starting point is ultimately used to support their
- 1:04:41conclusion that the Black Monk of Pontefract is less likely to
- 1:04:46be a poltergeist and more likely to be a demonic entity, one that
- 1:04:51remains on the property to this day.
- 1:04:55It is indisputable that the Farrah family not only existed
- 1:04:58but also lived at the property before the Pritchard's, and
- 1:05:02there's ample record to prove this.
- 1:05:04In fact, the author's claims were allegedly presented from
- 1:05:08Mr. Farrah himself, but the family moved into 30 E Drive in
- 1:05:13September of 1954 and would leave within a year due to
- 1:05:18horrific activity. In the aforementioned book, the
- 1:05:22readers treated to tales of the dark monk, which are accompanied
- 1:05:25by many photographs of dark demonic entities captured within
- 1:05:30the walls of the home. Does this house still exist?
- 1:05:35It most certainly does Today. The former council house is just
- 1:05:40as famous as it is creepy. Those who visit the site have
- 1:05:45documented many scratches and suffocating sensations as well
- 1:05:50as capturing numerous photographs of the alleged black
- 1:05:53monk entity itself. These alleged pieces of evidence
- 1:05:58accompanied with the two families who lived there and the
- 1:06:02current owners experiences, we are left with more questions
- 1:06:07than answers. A few of my questions are these
- 1:06:12just who was this black monk? If they did exist, what drove
- 1:06:17them to such madness to abuse the young?
- 1:06:21Are they perhaps a man of God at one point and ultimately
- 1:06:24corrupted by darkness? The same darkness that would
- 1:06:28corrupt them in life and consume them in death?
- 1:06:32Perhaps this is what led to the violent manifestations that
- 1:06:35affected all of those who crossed the threshold of 30 E
- 1:06:40Drive. Was the entity A malevolent
- 1:06:43human spirit? A demonic entity or a textbook
- 1:06:47case of poltergeist activity. All questions we truly may never
- 1:06:53have the answers to. But one thing is certain.
- 1:06:57There was something that called the house at 30 E Drive in
- 1:07:00Pontefract Home. Something that was not of this
- 1:07:04world. A dark, robed and lurking
- 1:07:09presence that stalked those who dwelt there in the land of the
- 1:07:13living. Perhaps it still lurks there,
- 1:07:17stalking, watching, and waiting for the right time to awake and
- 1:07:24wreak havoc upon those of us who still.
- 1:07:27Breathe. And whose hearts still beat in
- 1:07:34the quiet rural town of Lamar, AR Tucked among cotton fields
- 1:07:38and crumbling barns, stands a white colonial farmhouse that
- 1:07:43once promised a dream life for the Shea family.
- 1:07:47Instead, it delivered something else entirely, something cold,
- 1:07:52intelligent and malevolent. For months in 2002 to 2003, this
- 1:08:00unsuspecting home became the stage for one of the most
- 1:08:03terrifying and well documented hauntings in modern American
- 1:08:06history. A descent into chaos, violent
- 1:08:11manifestations, shadow figures, and so much more.
- 1:08:16This is the terrifying story of the Shea family haunting, also
- 1:08:20known as a haunting in Arkansas. This is not a story you want to
- 1:08:24listen to alone or in the dark. A home is supposed to be a
- 1:08:39sanctuary, but what happens when it turns on you?
- 1:08:44The Ozark River Valley was once considered the gateway to the
- 1:08:47West, perhaps more so now. It is a gateway to the great
- 1:08:53beyond, a place where life and death collide and sometimes,
- 1:08:58just maybe, don't always stay separate from one another.
- 1:09:02In October of 2003, hard working couple Ben and Jamie Shay
- 1:09:08searched for a new place to live.
- 1:09:11Originally from Little Rock, their search takes them to
- 1:09:14Markham, Arkansas. They're hoping to find a house
- 1:09:18that they can make a home for themselves as well as their
- 1:09:21young children. As the couple drives to look at
- 1:09:24their next prospect purchase, they are taken back by what they
- 1:09:28see standing before them. There, in front of their eyes,
- 1:09:32lies a historical home. In Jamie's words from later
- 1:09:36interviews. The house was absolutely
- 1:09:39beautiful and large. It had old trees all around it
- 1:09:44and it was just the picture of the house that I had been
- 1:09:46wanting all my life. The house the couple is looking
- 1:09:50at buying is indeed old. Built in the 1700s, it is one of
- 1:09:55the oldest in the state. Together, Ben and Jamie seem to
- 1:09:59collectively fall in love with it.
- 1:10:02They can already imagine raising their three children upon its
- 1:10:05grounds. Ben, who had grown up playing in
- 1:10:08the woods, truly wanted to share that with his children as well.
- 1:10:13The house was in the perfect location for the couple,
- 1:10:16directly in between two towns the two separately worked in.
- 1:10:21If they lived here, their commutes would be significantly
- 1:10:24reduced and therefore they could spend more time together as a
- 1:10:28family. Deciding to take a closer look,
- 1:10:32the Shays step inside the home. But as their feet cross the
- 1:10:36threshold, little do they know that something else is taking a
- 1:10:40closer look at them as well, perhaps from the protection of
- 1:10:45the shadows. Regardless, the couple loves
- 1:10:49what they see, in the words of Jamie Shay in later interviews.
- 1:10:55I knew as soon as I saw that house that we had to have it.
- 1:10:59It seemed as if it spoke directly to their souls, almost
- 1:11:03as if something supernatural was drawing them in.
- 1:11:08Together they continue to examine the rest of the home
- 1:11:11before fully committing to purchasing.
- 1:11:14But as they ascend the stairs and take a look inside the first
- 1:11:17room, they perhaps aren't quite as sure as they once were.
- 1:11:22Inside the bedroom lies something strange.
- 1:11:26There's a fireplace at its center, and on and within it are
- 1:11:30all sorts of strange markings in graffiti.
- 1:11:34A local boy named Clayton, who had passed away in an accident's
- 1:11:38name, was spray painted across the stone.
- 1:11:42Pentagrams were carved and painted on it, as well as the
- 1:11:45names the couple didn't seem to recognize, names that appeared
- 1:11:50to be in a language that neither of them knew.
- 1:11:54But despite being creeped out at first, the two thought that
- 1:11:57perhaps some teens had broken into the property at some point
- 1:12:00during its vacancy and committed the defacing.
- 1:12:04So with that conclusion, they decide that the deal is too good
- 1:12:08to pass up. They decide to make an offer on
- 1:12:11the home and to their surprise, it's accepted almost
- 1:12:15immediately. The couple are absolutely
- 1:12:18elated. The deal they got on the home
- 1:12:21seems to be too good to be true, and perhaps for one reason or
- 1:12:26another, it truly was. Within several weeks the Shays
- 1:12:32wife Jamie, husband Ben and three young children, 8 month
- 1:12:37old Jackson. Five year old Bridger.
- 1:12:40And 11 year old daughter Tori move into their colonial home to
- 1:12:44begin a new chapter in their lives.
- 1:12:47But little did they know that something else, something much
- 1:12:51more sinister, may just be beginning.
- 1:12:54The family quickly settles into a busy routine.
- 1:12:57They decide to hire an experienced and well reviewed
- 1:13:00babysitter to watch Jackson during the day.
- 1:13:03A woman named Molly Ben, who works third shift, sleeps
- 1:13:07throughout the morning, then wakes up to attend class and
- 1:13:11then heads to work after. One morning, as he sleeps in his
- 1:13:15bed shortly after hiring the sitter, he is suddenly woken up
- 1:13:20by the sound of his baby son screaming through the baby
- 1:13:24monitor he's placed beside his pillow on his night stand.
- 1:13:28As he sleepily calls out to Molly to take care of Jackson,
- 1:13:32he is met with no response from her.
- 1:13:35Meanwhile, the screams of the child only continue to grow in
- 1:13:39intensity. Growing frustrated, Ben sits up
- 1:13:43to go and see just what exactly was going on.
- 1:13:47He continues to call out to Molly, but is meant with no
- 1:13:50responses. As the infant screams erupt out
- 1:13:54of the baby monitor, Ben seeks out Molly within the house, but
- 1:13:59his calls are only continuing to be in vain.
- 1:14:03Molly is seemingly not around and is not answering him, yet
- 1:14:07his son's cries grow ever louder as he makes his way into the
- 1:14:11nursery whilst carrying the monitor.
- 1:14:14The screams suddenly stop as he breaches the room's doorway.
- 1:14:19Then a deep chill manifests down his spine.
- 1:14:24The room itself is empty, The crib is barren.
- 1:14:29There's not a single soul dwelling within the room.
- 1:14:33Something was very wrong here. Confused and a bit freaked out,
- 1:14:38but not one to be the superstitious type, Ben then
- 1:14:42heads downstairs and continues to call out for Molly to try and
- 1:14:46get to the bottom of whatever was going on.
- 1:14:49It's when he gets into the living room that he finds a note
- 1:14:51on the coffee table. The note reads.
- 1:14:54I went shopping and took Jackson with me.
- 1:14:57Will be back soon. In later interviews, Ben would
- 1:15:01say that I knew for a fact that I wasn't dreaming.
- 1:15:04There was a baby crying on that monitor and yet there was nobody
- 1:15:08else home. It was a very creepy moment.
- 1:15:12Unsure what to make of the whole event, he decides to keep things
- 1:15:16to himself. Several nights later, as Ben
- 1:15:20heads to work at the hospital and a large harvest moon hangs
- 1:15:24high over the Shea residence, something not of this world seem
- 1:15:28to be permeating the air within its walls.
- 1:15:32Bridger Shay is suddenly woken up out of a sound sleep by a
- 1:15:37chorus of strange voices emanating from nowhere, yet they
- 1:15:41seem to be everywhere. A cold gust of wind accompanies
- 1:15:46them, seemingly also with no origin.
- 1:15:49The young man is absolutely terrified as things are blown
- 1:15:53around his room. He gets up and begins running
- 1:15:56towards his parents room. Jamie too is suddenly woken up
- 1:16:01but by the fear stricken pleas of her young son.
- 1:16:05Believing that perhaps he had just had a nightmare, she brings
- 1:16:08the scared boy into bed with her to console him.
- 1:16:12Trying to quell his fears, she gets up out of bed and decides
- 1:16:16to take a look around the house. Her first thought was that
- 1:16:20perhaps one of the other children had left the television
- 1:16:23on in the living room, but upon examining it, it was turned off.
- 1:16:28She listens for any other signs of activity but doesn't hear
- 1:16:33anything. Tired, she returns to bed and
- 1:16:37attempts to get more sleep. The night, however, her what
- 1:16:41dwelled within it seemingly had other plans.
- 1:16:46Tory Shea is woken up by the sound of toys being played with.
- 1:16:50Confused, she glances around her room as her clock reads 3:00 AM
- 1:16:55on the nearby night stand. The sounds seem to be
- 1:16:59originating from her brother Bridger's room just across the
- 1:17:02hallway from hers. Calling out to him, thinking
- 1:17:06that perhaps he had woken up and was entertaining himself, but at
- 1:17:10her expense, she tells him that he needs to go back to bed.
- 1:17:15As she opens the door to the young boy's room, she sees what
- 1:17:18appears to be practically any and all of his toys on the
- 1:17:23floor, and all of them are acting on their own accord and
- 1:17:27operating as if unseen hands are meddling with them.
- 1:17:31What strikes fear under her heart, however, is that her
- 1:17:34brother is nowhere to be seen. Stepping back into the hallway,
- 1:17:39she's met with a rush of cold wind and hears a chorus of
- 1:17:43voices. Voices that she doesn't
- 1:17:46recognize. It was as if multiple people
- 1:17:49with differing tonalities were speaking over one another, and
- 1:17:53the concophony enveloped the atmosphere around her.
- 1:17:57Unsure and freaked out to say the least, she decides to run
- 1:18:01back to her bedroom. Shutting the door behind her,
- 1:18:05she runs to her bed and quickly hides underneath the covers.
- 1:18:10It takes her quite some time, but she eventually manages to
- 1:18:14fall back asleep. The following morning, as the
- 1:18:18children wait outside to head to school, they begin to talk among
- 1:18:22each other about the previous night's events.
- 1:18:25Tori, who perhaps was initially trying to rationalize what she
- 1:18:29had seen. Had thought that Bridger had
- 1:18:31hid. From her when she had come to
- 1:18:33confront him about playing in the middle of the night.
- 1:18:36When she asked the young boy why he hid and why he had been
- 1:18:40awake, he seems confused. He quickly tells her that he had
- 1:18:45slept with their mom and father and hadn't been in his room at
- 1:18:49all at that time. Further confused, Tori asks him
- 1:18:53just why he had gone to sleep in their mother's bed and hadn't
- 1:18:56stayed in his own. With this question, the boy goes
- 1:19:00silent. Upon further prodding, he tells
- 1:19:04his sister that he had heard lots of scary voices and that it
- 1:19:09had got windy, so he ran. Being a good older sister, Tori
- 1:19:14decides not to further add to her brother's fear.
- 1:19:18She can tell that he genuinely meant what he was saying.
- 1:19:21She doesn't tell him that she too experienced the very same
- 1:19:25things he had just described during the night.
- 1:19:29Later that evening, before heading to work, Ben spends
- 1:19:33quality time with. Bridger, the 2.
- 1:19:35Lay in the boy's bed as Ben reads his son a children's book
- 1:19:39to relax him. For now, Ben is stuck working
- 1:19:43later hours while he earns his degree.
- 1:19:46He hopes that in due time, once the process is over, that he'll
- 1:19:50be able to adjust his hours so he can spend more time with his
- 1:19:53family. As he heads back out into the
- 1:19:56darkness of night to provide for them, something lurks within the
- 1:20:00shadows of the Shay household. As the children sleep, Jamie is
- 1:20:06busy crunching numbers and budgeting.
- 1:20:10As she clicks away on her calculator and jots down notes
- 1:20:13in a notebook, her concentration is abruptly broken by the sounds
- 1:20:18of children giggling. Considering the hour, she knows
- 1:20:23that her children should not be awake, let alone playing, so she
- 1:20:28sets things down and decides to investigate.
- 1:20:32Glancing towards the stairs from the kitchen where she had been,
- 1:20:36she continues to hear her children giggle and laugh and
- 1:20:39then also begins to hear loud thumping sounds as if they were
- 1:20:43running up and down the stairs in rapid succession.
- 1:20:47She calls out to them multiple times, yet is meant with no
- 1:20:51response. Finally deciding to get up and
- 1:20:54go scold her children for not only being up past their
- 1:20:57bedtime, but also for running around the house like gremlins,
- 1:21:01Jamie heads towards the stairs where the sounds are originating
- 1:21:04from. However, instead of coming face
- 1:21:07to face with ornery children, she's instead met with nothing
- 1:21:12but the now cold dead silence of the house.
- 1:21:15The thumping, giggling and horseplay sounds have seemingly
- 1:21:20ceased out of nowhere. Finding this unnerving to say
- 1:21:24the least, Jamie then quietly makes her way upstairs to check
- 1:21:28on them. She's very surprised, given what
- 1:21:31she had just heard, to find them all asleep in their beds.
- 1:21:36With a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach growing, the
- 1:21:39concerned mother decides to double check the house for
- 1:21:42safety. All windows and doors are
- 1:21:45locked. There are no other souls present
- 1:21:48within the house. This very creepy happening would
- 1:21:52be far from the last. In the coming days and headed
- 1:21:56into the following weekend, Jamie and the children have
- 1:22:00continued to experience strange activity in the home.
- 1:22:04Jamie decides that she can no longer keep the details to
- 1:22:07herself, and although she doesn't want to add anything
- 1:22:11further to her husband's already full plate at this point, she
- 1:22:14feels like she must talk to him about what's been taking place,
- 1:22:18beginning to share the various occurrences, including one that
- 1:22:22had taken place that very day. Their babysitter had heard
- 1:22:26crying on the baby monitor, and upon checking it, there was no
- 1:22:30child weeping. Ben looks up from his studying
- 1:22:33and freezes as he hears his wife's words.
- 1:22:37He then tells her that several weeks ago, he too had heard the
- 1:22:41cries of a child, and upon checking, discovered that his
- 1:22:45child and their babysitter weren't even physically in the
- 1:22:48house. And what puts a chill shivering
- 1:22:51down his spine is that he had kept the experience a secret
- 1:22:55from everyone. Almost as soon as the words
- 1:22:58leave his lips, the sound of banging starts to fill the
- 1:23:02stillness of the house. Thinking at 1st that it was
- 1:23:06their children, but quickly realizing that the sounds were
- 1:23:09coming from downstairs, then springs into action and begins
- 1:23:13heading towards where the sounds are coming from.
- 1:23:16The sounds themselves cease upon his approach.
- 1:23:21Then, to add to his suspicion, he goes and checks on the kids
- 1:23:26and finds each one sound asleep in their beds.
- 1:23:30As he descends the stairs and approaches his wife in the
- 1:23:33living room, he seems visibly stricken and confused.
- 1:23:38He seems to know that something deep down is wrong with the
- 1:23:41entire situation, but tries to take a rational approach.
- 1:23:46He starts trying to explain away the sounds as an old house
- 1:23:49settling. Whether this was a way to help
- 1:23:52calm his wife or himself is unclear.
- 1:23:56It at least works for Ben in the short term.
- 1:23:59He somewhat convinces himself that it was indeed the house
- 1:24:02settling and starts to head off for bed.
- 1:24:05Jamie, however, is feeling very differently about the situation.
- 1:24:10In later interviews, she would say it was at that moment that I
- 1:24:14truly began to feel like we might be living in a haunted
- 1:24:17house. The following morning, consumed
- 1:24:21by a newly found interest to discover just what she and her
- 1:24:25family might be dealing with, Jamie decides to visit the local
- 1:24:29library. While browsing the aisles, she
- 1:24:32accumulates a good amount of books on ghosts and hauntings.
- 1:24:37As she checks out at the front, the librarian who's assisting
- 1:24:41her can't help but notice just what she's interested in.
- 1:24:45She then tells Jamie that she herself grew up in a haunted
- 1:24:48house when she was younger. Jamie then asked the woman if
- 1:24:52the home was there in the local area or somewhere else.
- 1:24:56The woman, whom she had never met before, then tells her that
- 1:25:00it was indeed in her town. She then tells her the address.
- 1:25:05Jamie's eyes swell larger than the harvest moon when the words
- 1:25:09leave the woman's lips. It is the very same address that
- 1:25:14she and her family now live in. The woman then begins to fill
- 1:25:19Jamie in on the conclusions that she and her family had come to
- 1:25:23while living in the residence. They had believed that a young
- 1:25:27boy had accidentally fallen to his death from the second room
- 1:25:31in the middle of the upstairs section of the house, The room
- 1:25:35now that her son Bridger occupies.
- 1:25:38The drive home for Jamie is surreal.
- 1:25:42The following morning, as she waits for her husband to get
- 1:25:45home so she can tell him what she had been told regarding the
- 1:25:48house and their situation, she begins to worry just how living
- 1:25:52in such an environment could affect her children.
- 1:25:55Upon Ben's arrival, she begins to divulge to him just exactly
- 1:26:00what she had learned. Ben began to believe that
- 1:26:03perhaps if this haunting was indeed real, that it would quiet
- 1:26:07down eventually and wouldn't have a large impact on their
- 1:26:11lives. As the Christmas season
- 1:26:13approaches, the paranormal activity within the Shea
- 1:26:17household seems to dwindle to a drop of its former self. 1 cold
- 1:26:22and snowy night. As Jamie researches on the
- 1:26:25family computer, she suddenly begins to feel as if she's being
- 1:26:29watched. Out of the glare of her monitor,
- 1:26:33she sees a dark, shadowy figure linger behind her.
- 1:26:37Startled, she turns around almost as quickly as it appeared
- 1:26:43it vanished. Mortified, Jamie rushes out of
- 1:26:47the room and runs to the nearest phone to call Ben.
- 1:26:51As he picks up on the other line, he is hearing his wife be
- 1:26:55hysterical. Becoming frustrated because he
- 1:26:58can't simply leave work on a whim.
- 1:27:00Ben is saddened about the whole situation.
- 1:27:04In later interviews, Jamie would say this.
- 1:27:07That was the. First time I ever truly felt
- 1:27:09scared or threatened by whatever was in the house and most
- 1:27:13certainly did not feel like the energy of a small child.
- 1:27:18The following day, Jamie would return to the library, seeking
- 1:27:22the woman that she had spoken to in regards to her current
- 1:27:25predicament and happening within the house.
- 1:27:29But as she glances around the library's front desk, she
- 1:27:32doesn't see her. She asks another librarian just
- 1:27:36where the woman was. She was then informed that she
- 1:27:40no longer worked for the library.
- 1:27:42Digging further as to what happened, Jamie is told that the
- 1:27:46woman left with no warning and no contact information and no
- 1:27:51forwarding address. Albeit it could have been a very
- 1:27:54unfortunate coincidence, the timing of it all just seems to
- 1:27:58add to the suspicion that something otherworldly was
- 1:28:02influencing the situation. The family now found themselves
- 1:28:06in something dark. Over the next several weeks, the
- 1:28:11presence within the Shea home has seemingly continued to go
- 1:28:14dormant, yet the heaviness of its existence continued to
- 1:28:19plague Jamie. In another interview later on,
- 1:28:23she would say that I really had an eerie, sick feeling in my
- 1:28:26stomach. I really dreaded going home and
- 1:28:30it was starting to not feel like my home anymore.
- 1:28:33One day after picking up Tori from a friend's house as she's
- 1:28:37driving through a construction zone, Jamie suddenly sees a
- 1:28:41flash before her eyes within the blink of an eye.
- 1:28:45She hits a pothole. And crashes her vehicle.
- 1:28:50Upon coming to, she begins to panic.
- 1:28:53She sees that her daughter is pinned face down underneath the
- 1:28:57minivan. Emergency personnel rushed
- 1:29:00toward the hospital after arrival on the scene.
- 1:29:03She's in critical condition. Ben soon arrives to greet his
- 1:29:08wife at the hospital and the two weep and hold each other.
- 1:29:12The doctors believed that Tori had a broken back, but to what
- 1:29:16extent was yet to be seen. They were unsure if she would
- 1:29:20survive, and if she did survive, they weren't sure if she'd ever
- 1:29:25be able to walk again. In a miraculous turn of events,
- 1:29:29just two weeks after the accident, the hospital releases
- 1:29:33Tori just in time for Christmas. Although she will be bedridden
- 1:29:38for several months, she's expected to make a full
- 1:29:41recovery. Several more weeks pass and with
- 1:29:45them the holidays. Jamie, who had taken a leave of
- 1:29:49absence from work to be able to care for her recovering
- 1:29:52daughter, barely notices any paranormal activity taking place
- 1:29:57in the house. As she gets Tory to bed one
- 1:30:00night, she's called to by her son.
- 1:30:04Standing at the bottom of the stairs, he tells his mother that
- 1:30:07people are talking in his room and it's keeping him from
- 1:30:11sleeping. Jamie goes to check on baby
- 1:30:13Jackson. She soon finds him fast asleep
- 1:30:17in his crib, fortunately unaffected by the sounds or
- 1:30:22people talking. However, upon exiting his room,
- 1:30:27she makes her way towards Bridgers as she gathers some
- 1:30:31stuffed toys for her son to sleep with that night.
- 1:30:34She can't shake the eerie feeling as if someone or
- 1:30:38something is watching her as she makes her way back into her and
- 1:30:42Ben's bedroom. She tells Ben that she no longer
- 1:30:46feels safe within their home. The couple are torn though,
- 1:30:50because they know that they can't go anywhere until Tori is
- 1:30:54fully recovered due to her condition.
- 1:30:57That before anything was their number one priority.
- 1:31:01They didn't want to have to focus on selling and then buying
- 1:31:04a home amidst her healing journey.
- 1:31:07After drifting off to dreamland as a large amber moon hangs in
- 1:31:11the sky overhead, something sinister stirred within the
- 1:31:15walls of the Shea family home. Jamie is woken up to the strange
- 1:31:21sensation of her hair being pulled and toyed with.
- 1:31:25At first, thinking it was her husband, she asked him to please
- 1:31:29knock it off. Her words then wake Ben up, who
- 1:31:33has no idea what she's talking about.
- 1:31:36Then, as if invisible hands are grabbing it, she feels her hair
- 1:31:41being toyed with yet again, but this time she's staring directly
- 1:31:45at her husband. She knows for a fact that it's
- 1:31:48not him. Then all hell seems to break
- 1:31:52loose. The entire house begins to
- 1:31:55shake. Picture frames begin falling off
- 1:31:58walls, the bed itself rocks back and forth, and the lights
- 1:32:03flicker as if toggled on and off by unseen forces.
- 1:32:08Bending grabs Bridger and Jamie grabs Jackson, and all together
- 1:32:13they rush downstairs to be with Tori.
- 1:32:16The only way the Shays feel safe now is to collectively sleep in
- 1:32:20one room, and with this realization, Jamie says out loud
- 1:32:25that they have to find some kind of spiritual help.
- 1:32:29The family then tries to salvage any rest that's left through the
- 1:32:33night, despite various bangs in the ominous presence that seemed
- 1:32:38to bear down upon the mall. In the days to come, the family
- 1:32:42contacts the Central Arkansas Society for Paranormal Research.
- 1:32:47The group agrees to come to the house as soon as Tory is well
- 1:32:51enough to be moved and within the next several weeks.
- 1:32:55The day finally comes. After getting the children a
- 1:32:58sitter for the night, the Shays are then greeted by the
- 1:33:01paranormal team. It takes some time, but they
- 1:33:05quickly set up their equipment and prepare for the night to
- 1:33:08come. The group includes a family,
- 1:33:11Alan Lowe, whose primary goal is gathering physical evidence
- 1:33:16alongside his wife Angela and daughter Violet, who are both
- 1:33:20sensitive to the supernatural. The presence within the home
- 1:33:24makes almost an immediate impression upon Angela and
- 1:33:27Violet. In later interviews, Violet
- 1:33:30would say that I felt a heavy and depressing vibe almost
- 1:33:34immediately. Within the group is another
- 1:33:38woman by the name of Karen Shillings.
- 1:33:40Her job is to try and connect the paranormal happenings with
- 1:33:44historical factors such as the house's history.
- 1:33:48Through her research, she's able to determine that the home
- 1:33:51itself was built in the year 1780 and was once a Stagecoach
- 1:33:57and hotel. It then later became a jail.
- 1:34:00As part of the group's routine. Angela and Violet begin a
- 1:34:04walkthrough of the home to see if they can sense any entities
- 1:34:08that could perhaps be lurking inside.
- 1:34:11Going room to room, the two sense the same dark and
- 1:34:14depressive energy. They also start sensing the
- 1:34:18spirit of a small child who's too scared to approach them.
- 1:34:23They then also pick up on not one, but many entities.
- 1:34:28It's as if a sea of spirits surround them.
- 1:34:32They are not happy in the slightest.
- 1:34:35As the two continue to explore, they would pick up on something
- 1:34:39else. Amidst the sea, they begin to
- 1:34:42sense a dark and foreboding presence that seemed to permeate
- 1:34:47the air around them. Something that wasn't human and
- 1:34:51perhaps never was, as Angela would describe in her later
- 1:34:56interviews. I hadn't been scared of his
- 1:34:59spirit since I was a small child, but this one truly scared
- 1:35:03me. While walking, the two
- 1:35:06simultaneously see a brief apparition of the creature.
- 1:35:10It's skin is dry and dead, it's eyes hollow and soulless.
- 1:35:16It's as if it thrived on pain and misery.
- 1:35:20This thing, whatever it was, had never experienced A singular
- 1:35:24breath of humanity. As they finished their
- 1:35:27walkthrough, the mother and daughter then head back down to
- 1:35:31the base level of the home to tell the chaise what they had
- 1:35:34discovered and felt. They tell them that they
- 1:35:37believed a small boy was present within the house, as well as a
- 1:35:41multitude of other human spirits.
- 1:35:44They believed that these were the ones frequently speaking and
- 1:35:48were responsible for keeping their son up late at night.
- 1:35:52They then informed them of the very dark energy that they had
- 1:35:55felt and seen. The two were unsure of exactly
- 1:36:00just what the creature was, but asked for the family's
- 1:36:03permission to try and attempt to contact it via Ouija board.
- 1:36:08The chaise reluctantly agree and soon the team lays out the board
- 1:36:13within the dining room of the house.
- 1:36:15Ben, who is unsure about the Ouija board method, is in
- 1:36:19control of the planchet alongside Alan.
- 1:36:23The group then begins to ask questions as they attempt to
- 1:36:27speak with the negative entity. Upon asking for its name, the
- 1:36:32planchette begins to move. It then letter by letter spells
- 1:36:37out Seth. When asked when it was alive,
- 1:36:45the planchette again, letter by letter, spells out the word
- 1:36:49never. The answers seem to confirm
- 1:36:52everyone's worst fears. They believed that they had been
- 1:36:56dealing with a demon. Then the planchette, without any
- 1:37:01assistance from Alan or Ben, starts moving erratically across
- 1:37:06the board. To everyone's shock and horror,
- 1:37:09it then flies off the board and towards the crew's cameras.
- 1:37:14Feeling like this was a sign, the group then reviews the
- 1:37:18footage into further horror. Everyone sees the grotesque
- 1:37:23figure on the monitor as it floats eerily down the hallway
- 1:37:27and then dissipates into nothingness, asking the Shays
- 1:37:31just what could have perhaps summoned a demon into their
- 1:37:34home. They are at. 1st at a loss for
- 1:37:37words. However, Ben and Jamie quickly
- 1:37:40remember that when they had first seen the house there had
- 1:37:44been strange symbols and pentagrams within its walls.
- 1:37:49Could this have perhaps been the cause?
- 1:37:52The group concludes that even if it was some teens experimenting
- 1:37:56with the occult as first thought, that they still could
- 1:37:59have opened up a gateway or a portal to the other side and
- 1:38:03allowed this entity to come in and infest.
- 1:38:07Angela believed that the family was in imminent danger, and if
- 1:38:11something wasn't done immediately, that this demon
- 1:38:14could inflict very real harm upon them, as shown with the
- 1:38:18potential tie to the previous car accident.
- 1:38:22She then suggests A ritual cleansing of the house.
- 1:38:27Almost as soon as the words leave her mouth, the planchette
- 1:38:30begins to violently move in a Figure 8 motion, whipping back
- 1:38:35and forth with rage. Then, in a ritualistic fashion,
- 1:38:40Angela begins to burn sage within the home, attempting to
- 1:38:44cleanse it of any and all negative forces.
- 1:38:48As the smoke and prayers fill the air, the windows open and
- 1:38:52close by themselves, the lights flicker, and almost everything
- 1:38:57it seems like within the home begins to move and shake with
- 1:39:01energy. Violet sees visions of all the
- 1:39:04souls that appear to be within the house itself or bound to the
- 1:39:08land. She now believes that the entity
- 1:39:11set was perhaps drawn to their energy and has been feeding upon
- 1:39:16it as a source. As well as the turmoil being
- 1:39:19caused to the Shea family following the saging, the raging
- 1:39:25atmosphere continues like a storm.
- 1:39:29Angela and her daughter then make their way outside and begin
- 1:39:32pouring a ring of blessed salt around the property, creating a
- 1:39:36barrier to protect the home and all who dwell within it.
- 1:39:42With the circle connected around the home, almost the minute the
- 1:39:45granules meet one another, the movement within ceases.
- 1:39:51In her later interviews, Jamie would say this in regards to
- 1:39:55this very night after the cleansing, I felt an immediate
- 1:39:59change. Instead of feeling a sense of
- 1:40:02evil, I felt a sense of peace in the air.
- 1:40:06I felt that the sense of evil had been lifted.
- 1:40:09Following these night's events, the next several months life of
- 1:40:14the chaise returns to normal. Tori makes a full recovery and
- 1:40:18the family seems relatively happy all things considered.
- 1:40:23That was until one very strange evening.
- 1:40:27As Ben and Jamie discuss things they needed to take care of,
- 1:40:31their son, Bridger walks into the room.
- 1:40:34However, something seems very off about the young boy.
- 1:40:39He's just standing there and staring at them, almost in a
- 1:40:43trance like state. He then opens his mouth and
- 1:40:47begins to speak, but what comes through him is not his own
- 1:40:52voice. Instead, a dark, raspy and
- 1:40:57menacing tone comes through 1/2 laughing, half wicked sound that
- 1:41:03deeply disturbs his parents. Jamie runs up and gives him a
- 1:41:08small shake, trying to get her son to come too, and thankfully
- 1:41:14he does. However, he doesn't remember
- 1:41:17wandering into their room at all.
- 1:41:20Freaking out as anyone would, Jamie then asks her son to stay
- 1:41:24with his father as she quickly runs to grab baby Jackson.
- 1:41:29Upon picking him up out of his crib, she begins to hear 2 very
- 1:41:33distinct voices floating around her.
- 1:41:36They seem to be getting louder and louder as she makes her way
- 1:41:40back towards the bedroom door, headed out of the room into the
- 1:41:45hallway. She then finds a scared looking
- 1:41:48Tori standing before her as she asks her to quickly come with
- 1:41:52her. Tori points to the end of the
- 1:41:54hallway behind them. There mere feet away.
- 1:41:59It's large and robed, with the same cracked skin and glassy
- 1:42:05black pits for eyes. Screaming and grabbing her
- 1:42:09daughter as well, Jamie then runs them all down the stairs
- 1:42:13and back towards Ben and Bridger.
- 1:42:16These series of. Events left the chaise with
- 1:42:18seemingly no other choice out of fear for their lives.
- 1:42:23They would jump into the family minivan and leave behind what
- 1:42:26was once their dream home. As a result of this, they would
- 1:42:31quietly put their home upon the market and move to a nearby
- 1:42:34apartment. Ben would Graduate School in the
- 1:42:38months to come, and upon the sale of the house, the couple
- 1:42:42would take the money and move to a brand new town where they
- 1:42:46started life anew. Before we go, I wanted to share
- 1:42:50my thoughts on this case and some of the details that I
- 1:42:53noticed. The whole ordeal, contrary to
- 1:42:56what most typically occurs, seemed to make the chaise a much
- 1:42:59stronger family unit instead of tearing them apart, which is
- 1:43:03always a positive thing to see come out of these hauntings.
- 1:43:07From what I could find, it seems that the chaise are still
- 1:43:10thriving, and thank God for that.
- 1:43:12Given all that they've been through, this case strikes me as
- 1:43:16more genuine compared to many others that I've seen.
- 1:43:19I've drawn those conclusions not only from the Shay's actions
- 1:43:22throughout their story, but from listening to interviews years
- 1:43:25after. They seem like very credible and
- 1:43:29decent people, to me at least. Did a portal exist within the
- 1:43:33Shay home? I certainly think that it's
- 1:43:35possible, considering they found a coal related symbolism and
- 1:43:39other ritual items within the home before they even officially
- 1:43:42lived there. It's hard to tell if it was some
- 1:43:45kids playing around or something more methodical.
- 1:43:49Regardless, a door could have been opened inadvertently or
- 1:43:52otherwise, allowing these entities to come in and wreak
- 1:43:56havoc upon lives. Upon having the paranormal
- 1:44:00research group come in and attempt to communicate with the
- 1:44:03dark entity within the home, it's interesting that the name
- 1:44:06that came out of the Ouija board session was Seth or Set.
- 1:44:11Interestingly, those names are the same names for the Egyptian
- 1:44:15God of Chaos. This figure is also.
- 1:44:18Known as a trickster figure at times.
- 1:44:21Could the entity and the God be one in the same?
- 1:44:24I mean, it's certainly possible, albeit unlikely in my opinion.
- 1:44:28But I found this element pretty interesting and I needed to
- 1:44:32share it with you all. They also mentioned that the
- 1:44:35plane chat on the Ouija board moved in a Figure 8 pattern.
- 1:44:38This is also very interesting because it's also a
- 1:44:41characteristic of the demon Zozo.
- 1:44:44I think this is the first case outside of that original story
- 1:44:48and the first hand accounts of interactions with set demon that
- 1:44:51I've heard of this phenomena manifesting.
- 1:44:54And I do have to say, all seriousness aside, this case is
- 1:44:57covered on one of my all time favorite shows which is called A
- 1:45:00Haunting and I went back and rewatched the episode that
- 1:45:04features the story which is called Where Evil Lurks.
- 1:45:07And dude the acting, the parts that feature the creatures
- 1:45:11betrayal on the show are absolutely hilarious.
- 1:45:28Like what even is that? Like come on guys you could have
- 1:45:31done better. I'll be it.
- 1:45:32I always enjoy the show and the stories being told.
- 1:45:35That part was just way too funny for me.
- 1:45:37Not to mention now saging is a very ancient and useful
- 1:45:41practice. I've seen it work with my own
- 1:45:43eyes and one of the most disturbing and violent hauntings
- 1:45:46that I've ever experienced, and it literally forced the entity
- 1:45:49outside where it then proceeded to bang on the walls and windows
- 1:45:53and occasionally the floor and ceiling.
- 1:45:56It's a whole saga of a story. If you guys aren't familiar with
- 1:45:59it, maybe I'll go into it more so here another day, but that
- 1:46:03convinced me that saging can very much work.
- 1:46:06The particular cleansing ritual that was used in this case
- 1:46:10combined saging with Christian prayer, which I'm sure could be
- 1:46:13effective. However, if the portal was left
- 1:46:16open, which I think it was, the entity just made its way back
- 1:46:20into the home and or another or multiple other entities made
- 1:46:25their way back in because the chaise continue to be haunted
- 1:46:28and it was that that ultimately led to them leaving.
- 1:46:31I also can't judge them for selling the house as it was.
- 1:46:35They tried to handle things the best way that they knew how, and
- 1:46:38I hope whoever ended up with it after and up to present day were
- 1:46:42able to get things more spiritually calmed down, so to
- 1:46:45speak, and weren't nearly as haunted and plagued as the Shays
- 1:46:49were. I hope wherever the Shay family
- 1:46:51is today that they're happy, safe, and thriving.
- 1:46:55And I always mention this just to be on the safe side.
- 1:46:59Please. Respect their privacy and anyone
- 1:47:02else's privacy of stories that we've covered here.
- 1:47:05With that being said, unfortunately, sometimes when we
- 1:47:09think we've found our happily ever after, it ends up being
- 1:47:12nothing more than a trap. A lurid false sense of security
- 1:47:17that when our guard is finally down, the monster within the
- 1:47:20darkness strikes like a Viper from the shadows.
- 1:47:24So be wary and take precautions and don't let this be you.
- 1:47:30After a terrifying encounter with a demonic entity in the
- 1:47:34woods outside of their home, two brothers find themselves under
- 1:47:39attack by dark and malevolent forces.
- 1:47:44With no place a refuge from torment, not even their own
- 1:47:48home, will they escape the wrath of a real life nightmare they
- 1:47:53have unearthed or will the darkness take them?
- 1:47:57This is the untold story of the demonic Shadow Man case that was
- 1:48:02experienced by brothers Tom and Tim Yancey.

- 1:48:48Thank you. Lake Worth, FL Founded in 1913,
- 1:48:54City plays home to the arts, boasting festivals, boutiques,
- 1:48:59music venues and a historic theater.
- 1:49:03But amongst the songs, paintings and acting, it is also the home
- 1:49:09to something evil that lurks just beneath the surface.
- 1:49:13In the late 1960's, the Yancey family called Lake.
- 1:49:17Worth their home? Living near the mostly
- 1:49:21underdeveloped southern woods in the town at that time.
- 1:49:25Brothers Tim and Tom, along with their father Sonny and mother
- 1:49:29Barbara up until this point. Had lived a rather quiet.
- 1:49:33Life. Tim would describe his childhood
- 1:49:36home as a very peaceful and remote place to live.
- 1:49:39It was fairly isolated and in the middle of nowhere.
- 1:49:44His mother, Barbara was a beacon of light and joy, a woman who
- 1:49:49always had a diamond smile upon her face.
- 1:49:53His father was a stern man, a battle hardened Korean War
- 1:49:58veteran who then worked as a Carpenter doing construction.
- 1:50:03Sonny suffered from PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a
- 1:50:08result of the war and according to Barbara, was a totally
- 1:50:12different person when he came back.
- 1:50:15He had been a Sergeant in charge of a mortar platoon during the
- 1:50:18war and would very rarely speak of what had happened, although
- 1:50:23both of the brothers later would recall that he told them a few
- 1:50:26different stories of his time there.
- 1:50:29One story that following a battle he had to arrange for
- 1:50:33mass graves to be dug and for bulldozers to lay the dead to
- 1:50:38rest. While suffering with PTSD, Sonny
- 1:50:42tended to have a short fuse on his temper, but for some reason
- 1:50:47this particular summer it seemed to get inexplicably worse.
- 1:50:52Where the family lived was remote and surrounded by lush
- 1:50:56woods, and prior to being settled, the land where the
- 1:51:00house now stood had been heavily utilized during the slave trade,
- 1:51:05as well as being the home to numerous bouts of violence
- 1:51:09between warring Native American tribes.
- 1:51:12So with the combinations of the terrors of war and those
- 1:51:15experiencing persecution over the years, these heavy emotions
- 1:51:20seem to leak into the. Earth.
- 1:51:22And the woods in and of themselves seem to become a
- 1:51:25beacon for darkness, almost as if the black hearts of those who
- 1:51:29perpetrated the axe still rested beneath the leaves, sticks and
- 1:51:35stones of the forest floor. Playing together as brothers
- 1:51:39often do, Tim and Tom would spend much time within those
- 1:51:43very same woods, bonding, exploring, and having a great
- 1:51:48time. Sonny had built a Fort for the
- 1:51:50boys to enhance their time spent out there, and at this time Tom
- 1:51:55was 12 years old and Tim was 71. Chilly fall day as Tom ventured
- 1:52:01into the woods, alone as he. Approached the Fort.
- 1:52:05He began to get an eerie feeling as if someone or something was
- 1:52:11watching him with his inner voice screaming.
- 1:52:14He bolted and ran inside the Fort as he peered through the
- 1:52:19openings in between the various boards and peeking past the
- 1:52:23cloth covered windows. At first he saw nothing.
- 1:52:28But as his heart began to subside from beating out of his
- 1:52:31chest, he began to hear the crunching of crisp autumn leaves
- 1:52:35around him. And through the darkness of the
- 1:52:38boards he sees a silhouette of a creature.
- 1:52:42Although the figure appears manlike, something tells him
- 1:52:46that it's not of this world. Tom, doing the sensible thing,
- 1:52:51runs for his life, leaving the Fort behind.
- 1:52:55Terrified at what he had just experienced, he decides to not
- 1:52:59tell anyone about what had happened.
- 1:53:03As Tom ventures back to the house, disturbed by what he had
- 1:53:07been through, Tim had entered through another path in the
- 1:53:10woods, blissfully unaware of his brother's plight.
- 1:53:14As the boy walks the crispy path of dried leaves, he too begins
- 1:53:19to feel as if he's being watched.
- 1:53:21Then in front of him, up in a tree, he sees something strange,
- 1:53:27something out of place. There in the tree, with the
- 1:53:31environment reacting around it. There appears to be some kind of
- 1:53:35creature, but this creature is either see through or it's
- 1:53:39reflecting its surroundings. Almost like a freakish
- 1:53:43distortion of reality. Perhaps something that shouldn't
- 1:53:47have been within the confines of our reality.
- 1:53:51As his eyes grow larger with. Fear.
- 1:53:54This entity begins to make its way down the tree and then lands
- 1:53:58in front of him, near feet away from the boy, hitting the ground
- 1:54:03with a loud thud. This is enough to truly frighten
- 1:54:06the young man, and he, too similar to his brother, decides
- 1:54:11to run for the house, the one place a child should feel safe
- 1:54:15to be. Tim frantically makes his way
- 1:54:18out of the woods and quickly into the arms of his mother, who
- 1:54:22was near the front door of their house after explaining things as
- 1:54:25best as he. Could.
- 1:54:27Barbara calms him with the love only a mother can provide,
- 1:54:31asking him to calm down. She tried her best to convince
- 1:54:35him that it was perhaps an animal that he had startled.
- 1:54:38And that things would. Be OK.
- 1:54:40And although she did what she could, as we'll come to see,
- 1:54:44this would be far from what would take place.
- 1:54:48The brothers, in due time, would discuss the strangeness of their
- 1:54:51experiences in the woods with one another, confiding in each
- 1:54:56other and trying to make sense of just what this thing or what
- 1:55:00these things were. Fearing that even talking about
- 1:55:04it could prompt a visit, the boys did their best to move on
- 1:55:08and shift their focus to other activities, fearing that if they
- 1:55:12spoke of it they would invoke the wrath of what they began to
- 1:55:16call the Shadow man. During the day things seem to
- 1:55:20regain a small amount of normalcy, but at night the
- 1:55:24brothers began to see the very same figure outside, usually
- 1:55:29near the tree line, presenting a thick man like shadow, always
- 1:55:34watching and lurking like a wild animal stalking its prey.
- 1:55:40One night as the moon peeks through the clouds overhead, Tim
- 1:55:45is jolted awake out of a sound sleep.
- 1:55:49With his eyes opening and slowly adjusting to the darkness of his
- 1:55:52room, he tries to make sense as to why he was suddenly woke up.
- 1:55:57As he glances towards his window with the faintest amount of
- 1:56:01moonlight illuminating the room, he sees a.
- 1:56:04Shadow go past scared. But getting up to investigate,
- 1:56:09he reluctantly looks and he sees nothing.
- 1:56:13Thinking that perhaps his mind is playing tricks on him, Tim
- 1:56:16lays his head back down to try and sleep again.
- 1:56:20But as he gets comfortable, right before he closes his eyes,
- 1:56:24he again sees this menacing shadow pass by his window.
- 1:56:30Attempting to wake up his brother but unable to do so, he
- 1:56:33once again gathers the courage to take a look through the
- 1:56:37window, peering around their yard and towards the tree line
- 1:56:42they're in the mists emanating from the woods, he sees the
- 1:56:46shadowy outline of a man, and this man appears to be staring
- 1:56:51directly into his soul from afar.
- 1:56:55It then suddenly begins to rush towards him.
- 1:56:59Absolutely petrified with fear, the young man lets out a blood
- 1:57:03curdling scream. His brother quickly wakes up and
- 1:57:07so do his parents, with Sunny being the first inside the room.
- 1:57:12He asks just what is happening. After being told by Tim that
- 1:57:17there was a man in the yard, he quickly grabs a flashlight and
- 1:57:21begins sweeping the property. He ultimately would find
- 1:57:25nothing. Several weeks later, as the boys
- 1:57:29slept in their room, 12 year old Tom starts acting strangely.
- 1:57:34Waking up to the sound of footsteps, Tim sees his brother
- 1:57:38in the middle of their room as he calls out to him.
- 1:57:41He receives no response and Tom then begins to walk and.
- 1:57:46Leave their room. Calling out to their parents as
- 1:57:50well as his brother, Tim continues to follow him as he
- 1:57:53descends the stairs headed towards their front door with
- 1:57:57Sonny and Barbara rushing close behind him.
- 1:58:00They watch as Tom heads out of the front door and into the
- 1:58:04yard. As Tim would describe it later,
- 1:58:07it was if he was being called out to something or there was
- 1:58:10something drawing him into those woods.
- 1:58:13It was very frightening for me because I knew there was
- 1:58:17something out there and I didn't understand why this was all
- 1:58:20happening. Sonny is able to wake the boy up
- 1:58:23as the four stand in the yard. Tom seemed to have been
- 1:58:27sleepwalking, unaware of what was taking place.
- 1:58:31Although this hadn't happened previously and it was completely
- 1:58:35new to the family, this incident would be far from the last.
- 1:58:40For the next several weeks, Tom would continue to sleepwalk, at
- 1:58:45times with other members of the family.
- 1:58:48Unaware that he was missing. Tom would find himself waking up
- 1:58:52next to the lake, out in those foreboding woods.
- 1:58:56To try and keep the boy from sleepwalking, his parents began
- 1:59:00to implement measures to keep him from leaving the house,
- 1:59:04frustrated and understandably so, having to get up late into
- 1:59:08the night. What soon became night after
- 1:59:11night. With Tom often able to maneuver
- 1:59:13his way out of locked rooms, they took to stacking chairs in
- 1:59:17front of the boy's room in hopes that this would prevent Tom from
- 1:59:21escaping and potentially hurting himself under one of his spells.
- 1:59:26Later that night, after the family had gone to bed, Tom took
- 1:59:30to waking up as per usual. As he aimlessly tries to unlock
- 1:59:35the door to their room, he wakes up Tim.
- 1:59:38Fearing that his brother would wake up their father, he tries
- 1:59:42to get him to wake up and realize just what he's doing.
- 1:59:46And while this is taking place, the closet door directly across
- 1:59:50the room from Tom begins to shudder, and then it opens by
- 1:59:55itself. Then, as if he was being
- 1:59:58controlled like a marionette puppet, Tom would turn around.
- 2:00:03Face the closet and then walk inside.
- 2:00:08Then, with the boy inside, the door would shut behind him once
- 2:00:13again, seemingly by itself, as if it were operated by unseen
- 2:00:19hands. Tim, scared but also transfixed
- 2:00:24on what was taking place, began to hear a conversation.
- 2:00:29He heard his brother speaking. Then he heard another voice, a
- 2:00:33low, gravelly, deep voice. This frightens the young Tim so
- 2:00:38bad that despite his fear of his father, he calls out to his
- 2:00:43parents for protection. And thankfully his parents heed
- 2:00:47the call as they rush to push the chairs aside.
- 2:00:51They finally do, and then throw the door open to find out just
- 2:00:56what had happened. Now, Tim pointing to the closet
- 2:01:00indicates that Tom is inside. Heading to the closet door and
- 2:01:05opening it, they find the boys sat down inside, now apparently
- 2:01:10awake. Upon asking him just what was
- 2:01:13going on, all Tom could say was that there was a man in here.
- 2:01:18In later interviews, Tom would say that he remembers waking up
- 2:01:22inside the darkness of the closet to the voice of a man,
- 2:01:26and then upon speaking with him towards the back of the closet,
- 2:01:31he saw two red eyes. Staring back at him.
- 2:01:35Despite knowing of their son's sleepwalking, his parents tried
- 2:01:39to argue that he was clearly messing around in the closet,
- 2:01:43possibly playing with toys. They then scolded both of the
- 2:01:47boys for waking them up yet again.
- 2:01:50In the weeks to come, as their parents grow increasingly angry,
- 2:01:54the Yancey brothers continued to experience the abyssal force
- 2:01:58that they have come to refer to. As the shadow.
- 2:02:01Man. One night the entity seems to
- 2:02:05find a new way of terrorizing the brothers.
- 2:02:08Tim has suddenly woken up when he begins to feel small things
- 2:02:13hit his comforter and mattress, feeling where the objects had
- 2:02:17fallen. His hands discover rocks like
- 2:02:21small pebbles and thinking it was his brother messing with
- 2:02:25him, he asked him to stop and then laid his head back down
- 2:02:29onto. His pillow and.
- 2:02:31Then more of them started falling, pelting the blanket
- 2:02:35that covered him. He now knows for certain it is
- 2:02:38not Tom because he's looking directly at him and he is fast
- 2:02:43asleep as the rocks continue falling onto him.
- 2:02:48He then discovers leaves and then pine cones as well.
- 2:02:52Then he feels something drop onto his head and this something
- 2:02:58begins to crawl. Prying off whatever this thing
- 2:03:01was and throwing it, the boy begins to scream.
- 2:03:06Barbara soon comes to his aid and upon turning on the lights,
- 2:03:10she too finds the stones, pine cones, leaves, and to her
- 2:03:16surprise, giant Florida cockroaches.
- 2:03:20It was as if the shadow man was bringing in things from the
- 2:03:23woods, but for what reason remained unclear.
- 2:03:28It was with this incident that Barbara began to notice that
- 2:03:31perhaps it wasn't just the boy's imaginations at work, perhaps
- 2:03:36there was something terrorizing them.
- 2:03:39In the weeks that followed this incident, Barbara too begins to
- 2:03:43notice the ever growing hostile environment within the home and
- 2:03:48soon begins to seek answers from any and all sources.
- 2:03:53While her husband is at work and her children are at school, she
- 2:03:58purchases A Ouija board and upon returning home places it on the
- 2:04:03coffee table in the living room. Not being into the occult
- 2:04:07previously, she doesn't really know what she's doing, but wants
- 2:04:11to do her best to communicate with whatever could be there and
- 2:04:16to try and seek answers as to why it was tormenting her
- 2:04:19family. She tries to make contact, but
- 2:04:23it doesn't receive any answers. Later that day, the family
- 2:04:29retires to their beds to catch some sleep.
- 2:04:32Little did they know of Barbara's attempts to contact
- 2:04:35the other side, and little did they know that hell was about to
- 2:04:40be unleashed upon them. As everyone drifts off to
- 2:04:44dreamland, Tim once again finds himself being woken up out of a
- 2:04:48dead sleep. Perhaps it was his intuition.
- 2:04:52It's hard to know for sure why, but as he wakes up and sits up
- 2:04:58in his bed, he sees a dark hand emerge from the closet in their
- 2:05:02room. As the familiar fear grips him,
- 2:05:06he gets up and shakes his brother Tom awake.
- 2:05:11And to Tom's disbelief, as he looks ahead where his brother is
- 2:05:15pointing, he too sees the hand. And then a more fuller figure
- 2:05:21begins to emerge from the closet opening.
- 2:05:25Before both of their eyes, a shadowy figure emerges, casting
- 2:05:30itself onto the wall with glowing red eyes staring at
- 2:05:35them. It begins to climb horizontally
- 2:05:39on the wall towards them with the brothers absolutely shaken
- 2:05:43to their core. They scream for their parents as
- 2:05:47the figure dissipates as if it was never there.
- 2:05:52The two then rush out of their bedroom and run up to their
- 2:05:56parents bedroom and although apprehensive because of their
- 2:06:00father, they would rather deal with his.
- 2:06:03Wrath than that of the shadow. Man doing a knock and then
- 2:06:08opening their door. Tim leads the boys and calls out
- 2:06:12to their parents. He tells them that the man was
- 2:06:16back and that he was on their wall like a family.
- 2:06:20This bizarre statement from his son and the continuous lack of
- 2:06:24sleep prompts Sonny to explode. He tells the boys that there is
- 2:06:30no man, that they're dealing with the boogeyman, and that the
- 2:06:34boogeyman does bad things to bad kids.
- 2:06:38And if they were? Good.
- 2:06:40He would simply just go away. With tears in his eyes.
- 2:06:45Tim and his brother would make their way back to their bedroom.
- 2:06:49Tim would later recall. This notion that I was a bad
- 2:06:52kid, that I had done something wrong, and that something had
- 2:06:56come to punish me for my misdeeds is something that has
- 2:07:00stuck with me my entire life. I didn't know what I had done to
- 2:07:05deserve this. From that point on, the boys
- 2:07:09keep silent about the nightmare experiences that they had had
- 2:07:12with the entity known to them as the Shadow Man, but the entity
- 2:07:18seems to grow ever stronger. But even though they have been
- 2:07:22silent, the rage that dwells within their father Sunny also
- 2:07:27continues to grow. Tim later again would say he
- 2:07:32seemed to not understand what was happening in the house and
- 2:07:35this led to a lot of family dysfunction.
- 2:07:38Whether this attracted whatever this thing was to us or it fed
- 2:07:42off of the negative emotions or whatever, there was some kind of
- 2:07:46connection there. These entities seem to do this
- 2:07:50and it's like a coupling. The entity attaches itself to a
- 2:07:54family and then continues to cause problems and seems to
- 2:07:58derive energy from this. As time passes, the boys find
- 2:08:04themselves awake on the night of Christmas Eve.
- 2:08:08Being rambunctious kids as some of us were, they decided to
- 2:08:12sneak downstairs to take a peek at some of their Christmas
- 2:08:16presents under the family tree and the living room.
- 2:08:20The boys seemed to be successful not alerting their parents to
- 2:08:24their sneaky endeavors downstairs when suddenly loud
- 2:08:29booming knocks begin to come from upstairs.
- 2:08:33Trying to figure out what could be causing it, they realize that
- 2:08:37they seem to be originating from their room downstairs upon their
- 2:08:42mantle next to the tree. Their mother had set up a
- 2:08:45nativity scene showing Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus.
- 2:08:51As the banging intensifies further, the scene begins to
- 2:08:55shake and move. It then drops to the.
- 2:08:59Floor shattering the porcelain figures.
- 2:09:03The breaking only adding to the concophony of sound now
- 2:09:07reverberating all throughout the house.
- 2:09:10Then the heavy footsteps of their father cuts through the
- 2:09:13noise as he descends the stairs. The boys are trapped.
- 2:09:19He is pissed. And then he finds the shattered
- 2:09:22porcelain figures and this further enrages him as he
- 2:09:28interrogates the boys as to what they could have been doing.
- 2:09:32The boys deny causing the sounds.
- 2:09:34Or. Breaking the figures.
- 2:09:36But this too only serves to deepen his rage.
- 2:09:40Since the boys, quote, wanted to stay up, they could do so
- 2:09:46outside. Using a scare tactic, he marches
- 2:09:50the boys outside and into the yard right near the tree line of
- 2:09:54the forest. He tells them that he was going
- 2:09:58to get a good night's sleep and they were to stay outside all
- 2:10:03night. Little does he know he has
- 2:10:06inadvertently delivered his sons and to the arms of perdition.
- 2:10:12The air is cold and bites at their skin as a large moon
- 2:10:17hovers above them and the low rustle of leaves surround them.
- 2:10:22The two young men, despite their best efforts to comfort one
- 2:10:26another, are absolutely paralyzed with fear.
- 2:10:31As they stand in the darkness of the night, they both suddenly
- 2:10:35hear the crunching of leaves from behind them.
- 2:10:39Upon turning around, they are besieged by the shadow man yet
- 2:10:43again, screaming for their mother.
- 2:10:46As they run up to their deck, they beg to be let back into the
- 2:10:50house. Finally, their mothers woke up
- 2:10:54and forces their father to come with her and let the boys back
- 2:10:58in, finding the punishment to be cruel, especially since she
- 2:11:03knows herself that there are things at work that none of them
- 2:11:08understand. Tim would later say this when
- 2:11:11interviewed. My father's anger continued to
- 2:11:14grow and he became increasingly frustrated.
- 2:11:19He would blame the noises on us and his punishments were severe.
- 2:11:24The goal of this monster seemed to be to create more anger, more
- 2:11:28chaos, and more depression within our family.
- 2:11:34The situation grew bleaker day after day, on a cold and stormy
- 2:11:39night, as Tim laid in his bed, he was all too familiarly woken
- 2:11:43up without warning. This time, however, something
- 2:11:48was different. His sheets and blankets were
- 2:11:51pulled from him. As Tim would later say, you know
- 2:11:56something's there, it's in the room with you and you've got to
- 2:12:00reach down and pull those sheets back up.
- 2:12:05The boy reaches down to do just that, peering down as he grabs
- 2:12:10them off the floor. He thankfully doesn't see
- 2:12:13anything, pulling them back over himself.
- 2:12:17Now laying back down, he once again tries to get comfortable
- 2:12:21to sleep. As he starts to drift off he
- 2:12:26then feels a sharp searing pain on the right side of his ribs.
- 2:12:31Feeling this pain his eyes pop open to find what appears to be
- 2:12:35a long Bony hand coming from underneath his sheets.
- 2:12:40Scared for his life the boy screeches and runs as fast as
- 2:12:45his legs will carry him. But being this scared, he had
- 2:12:50his blinders on because he ran directly into the door that was
- 2:12:54locked to try and prevent his brother from sleepwalking and
- 2:12:58ultimately leaving the house. He smacks into the door with a
- 2:13:03visceral crack, screaming in pain and crashing to the ground.
- 2:13:09This prompted the attention of his parents, who came into the
- 2:13:12room to discover their son writhing in agony.
- 2:13:16They would quickly rush him to the hospital, and it would turn
- 2:13:19out that Tim had broken both of his collarbones following this
- 2:13:24event. As the months turned to years,
- 2:13:27things from here did not get any better for the Yancey family.
- 2:13:31Tom, being the oldest, when he became old enough, left the
- 2:13:35house as quickly as he could, no longer able to deal with the
- 2:13:39dark forces that dwelled there. Tim, Sonny and Barbara would not
- 2:13:44see him for years. Details past this point are
- 2:13:48practically non existent, but I will do my best to bring a
- 2:13:52conclusion to this very haunting case based on what I could find
- 2:13:57over the next 30 years. Tom would play college football
- 2:14:01and then become a career firefighter.
- 2:14:04Tim, given all the experiences he experienced before and after
- 2:14:08his brother left, would become a paranormal investigator and a
- 2:14:12park Ranger. Drifting apart as people do,
- 2:14:16they wouldn't reconnect until after their parents were gone.
- 2:14:20Sonny and Barbara had continued to live at the same house the
- 2:14:24two had grown up in and had had all of their shadow man
- 2:14:27experiences. When the brothers inherited the
- 2:14:30house, they came back together to decide just what to do with
- 2:14:34it. Tom, who had done practically
- 2:14:37everything to never return to the house, would later recall
- 2:14:41that he had a sickening feeling in the pit of his stomach upon
- 2:14:45entering the house again saying that it was just an evil,
- 2:14:50sickening feeling. As the brothers discuss things,
- 2:14:53it would become apparent that Tim wanted to move back into the
- 2:14:56home with his wife and reclaim it.
- 2:15:00So after working out a deal amongst themselves, that's
- 2:15:03exactly what Tim did. And by moving back in, he
- 2:15:07intended to cleanse the home, to rid themselves once and for all
- 2:15:12of this ominous presence that had caused them so much pain.
- 2:15:16The entity they knew as the Shadow Man.
- 2:15:20Prior to moving in, Tim would reach out to his friend Roy
- 2:15:24Hall, who had dealt with violent hauntings for many years, to
- 2:15:28help him perform a cleansing ritual of the home.
- 2:15:31Roy. Believed that the entity was
- 2:15:33demonic in nature and haunted the family because Tim's father
- 2:15:38was abusive. Sunny, who was a Korean War
- 2:15:41veteran, probably saw a good amount of the horrors of war.
- 2:15:45He believed that. Because of Sunny's PTSD, that
- 2:15:48perhaps the entity had been attached to the land and had
- 2:15:52seen this and exploited these problems as an entry into their
- 2:15:56lives where it continued to wreak havoc upon all of them.
- 2:16:00As Roy would say in later interviews, these entities seek
- 2:16:04to cause further dysfunction. They feed upon it.
- 2:16:08The two men, on a rainy and dreary afternoon, would step
- 2:16:11into the home together. Roy would begin to pick up on
- 2:16:14the ominous thick atmosphere almost immediately, lighting
- 2:16:19incense and beginning various prayers.
- 2:16:22The two men go from room to room cleansing as they walk
- 2:16:27throughout the house. They sense that the presence is
- 2:16:30strongest in Tim and Tom's old room, calling out to God to
- 2:16:34cleanse the House of all evil and negativity.
- 2:16:38The process took about an hour, but following it, the energy in
- 2:16:42the house seems to be rid once and for all of the shadow man.
- 2:16:48Tim recalled that things felt different.
- 2:16:51They felt much lighter, as if we had displaced the negative
- 2:16:55energy within the home. In August of 2009, Tim, his wife
- 2:17:01Trish, and son Gabriel all moved into the Lakewood, Florida home.
- 2:17:07Although they never experienced anything to the degree the boys
- 2:17:10did while growing up within it, there still seemed to be an
- 2:17:14undercurrent of evil just right below the surface.
- 2:17:18In closing, it is believed that the dysfunction of the Yancey
- 2:17:22household was more than likely far worse than what the sons
- 2:17:26portrayed publicly, but to what extent I'm not sure.
- 2:17:31I did my best to dig as deep as I could, and I believe Tim and
- 2:17:35Tom are both still alive, with Tim still being a consultant to
- 2:17:40various paranormal groups across the country.
- 2:17:44I did want to say that their story was a terrifying and a
- 2:17:47harrowing 1, and although somewhat anticlimactic in the
- 2:17:51end, as we know here on this channel, things don't always
- 2:17:55work out the way we want them to, and cases don't always have
- 2:17:59some kind of ultimate showdown. But a few questions I was left
- 2:18:04with after researching this case were just what was the shadow
- 2:18:09man? Was it a demon?
- 2:18:11Did it exploit the vulnerabilities of the family,
- 2:18:14particularly Sunny? In order to.
- 2:18:17Create a feedback loop of negativity in which it could
- 2:18:20enrich itself with and. Although from the outside
- 2:18:24looking in, those that are still with us who were involved seem
- 2:18:28to be doing OK. But just how has surviving the
- 2:18:32haunting affected these two men on a daily basis?
- 2:18:36Do they still think about it as I occasionally do with my own
- 2:18:40experiences? All questions I may never have
- 2:18:44answers for, but one thing is certain, there was something
- 2:18:48evil that stalked The Woodlands surrounding the Yancey home.
- 2:18:52Something stalking like a. Predator seeking prey.
- 2:18:57And all the things seem to be dormant for now.
- 2:19:00These malevolent entities may still be watching and lurking
- 2:19:05just beneath the surface, waiting for the moment to
- 2:19:08strike. Don't let their victim be you.
