  Speaker 1: is the South Dakota Right to Life Convention. It's September

  Speaker 1: 18th and 19th. Tell me a little bit about this event.

  Speaker 2: Yes, the convention is part of the What we do

  Speaker 2: every year at South Dakota Right to Life, this is

  Speaker 2: the 55th convention. And of course, South Dakota Right to

  Speaker 2: Life is known for the mission of protecting life from
• 0:46
  Speaker 2: conception to natural death through legislation, education, activism, and service.

  Speaker 2: So we are coordinating this convention with Hartford Humboldt Right

  Speaker 2: to Life. And so it's going to be September 18th

  Speaker 2: and 19th at Life Change Church. here in Sioux Falls.

  Speaker 2: And we just want to extend an invitation to middle

  Speaker 2: school up to adult age folks to join us. Very nice.

  Speaker 1: free event? How does all of that work?

  Speaker 2: the convention. And And it's free Friday night for anyone.

  Speaker 2: So the doors open at 6. So you can go

  Speaker 2: view the exhibits that are available. And then the program

  Speaker 2: starts at 7 and goes till about 8.30. And then

  Speaker 2: on Saturday, it's still free for middle school and high

  Speaker 2: school students. But then for adults, it's $ 35 for Saturday.

  Speaker 1: let's talk a little bit about this. I know we've

  Speaker 1: spoke about this in the past, and I'm sure there's

  Speaker 1: some folks that know exactly what that is. But for

  Speaker 1: people that don't know about Life Chain, how do we
• 2:25
  Speaker 1: describe Life Chain?

  Speaker 2: Yes, Life Chain is a national chain that started back
• 2:31
  Speaker 2: in 1987, and it still occurs in around 1,500 communities
• 2:36
  Speaker 2: across the USA and Canada. And it's always every first
• 2:40
  Speaker 2: Sunday of October. And it's a peaceful public hour of
• 2:43
  Speaker 2: prayer honoring the sanctity of human life.

  Speaker 1: And in Sioux Falls, this spans many blocks and it's
• 2:52
  Speaker 1: on 41st Street and you're not crossing the streets. You're
• 2:55
  Speaker 1: not blocking the roadway. You're making sure everybody can get
• 2:58
  Speaker 1: out and do what they do. So we're not impeding
• 2:59
  Speaker 1: anybody from doing anything. But when you're out there and
• 3:02
  Speaker 1: you're on the side of the road and people drive
• 3:03
  Speaker 1: past and they go, what is going on here? It's
• 3:06
  Speaker 1: a great way to get their attention in a positive way.

  Speaker 1: Like I said, you're not blocking traffic. You're not stopping
• 3:11
  Speaker 1: them from doing what they're doing. But what an amazing thing.

  Speaker 1: And how many people would you say we typically have
• 3:16
  Speaker 1: as a part of this in October?

  Speaker 2: There's usually about 500 people that come and we'll just
• 3:21
  Speaker 2: be on the north sidewalk of West 41st Street. It
• 3:25
  Speaker 2: spans from South Sertoma to Southwestern. So it's about three
• 3:29
  Speaker 2: and a half miles of people. And we try to
• 3:33
  Speaker 2: stand about 10 to 25 feet apart just so people
• 3:37
  Speaker 2: can read our signs better. And the signs, of course,
• 3:40
  Speaker 2: affirm the sanctity of life. And on the back, there
• 3:44
  Speaker 2: are prayer points for people to keep their mind focused
• 3:47
  Speaker 2: on prayer during that hour from two to three.

  Speaker 1: Again, it's coming up on October 4th, which again, sounds
• 3:55
  Speaker 1: like it's a long ways away, but it'll be here

  Speaker 1: before you know it. And if you would like to

  Speaker 1: be a part of that, how do I get involved?

  Speaker 1: Do I just show up that day or do I

  Speaker 1: reach out in advance? And if I want to bring

  Speaker 1: a whole group, can I do that?

  Speaker 2: We'd love to have a whole group, for sure. The

  Speaker 2: So if your church is already one of the churches

  Speaker 2: that normally participates, you are assigned a block and we

  Speaker 2: reach out to those churches and tell you exactly where

  Speaker 2: to be during that time. But if you don't know

  Speaker 2: if your church is registered or you just want to come,

  Speaker 2: just come about 15 minutes early and get your sign

  Speaker 2: at the parking lot of either Life Change Church, which

  Speaker 2: is 6300 West 41st Street or Gorman High School. corner

  Speaker 2: of Kiwanis and West 41st. Pick up a sign and

  Speaker 2: then just go out on the closest sidewalk there on

  Speaker 2: the north side. And then you'll be praying for that hour.

  Speaker 2: to stand an hour. That's perfectly fine. Families and children
