- 0:58Speaker 3: Jason Stewart Iowa, Sam and Isaac Glowingcron hanging out as
- 1:02Speaker 3: our company right now here on Fox Sports Radio, the
- 1:05Speaker 3: Bomani Jones conversation comes up in twenty You're not gonna
- 1:08Speaker 3: want to miss it. For the meantime, though, we're gonna
- 1:10Speaker 3: tell you why Bruce Pearl is ridiculous and why Miami
- 1:13Speaker 3: of Ohio should be in the NC DOUBLEA Tournament. It's
- 1:16Speaker 3: been a conversation that's carried over from this past weekend
- 1:19Speaker 3: when Bruce Pearl spoke as a television analyst on the
- 1:25Speaker 3: case for Miami of Ohio to not be in the
- 1:28Speaker 3: NC DOUBLEA Tournament despite the RedHawks having an unblemished mark
- 1:33Speaker 3: so far in college basketball. These were the comments that
- 1:38Speaker 3: set fire in the college basketball world over the past weekend.
- 1:42Speaker 5: Miami or howe, here's the deal.
- 1:44Speaker 6: Are we gonna select the sixty eight most deserving teams
- 1:47Speaker 6: or are we gonna select the sixty eight best teams? If
- 1:50Speaker 6: we're selecting the sixty eight best teams, then Mina Moohowe
- 1:54Speaker 6: is gonna have to win their tournament to qualify as
- 1:56Speaker 6: a champion, because as in at large, they are not
- 1:59Speaker 6: one of the best teams in the country, and that's
- 2:01Speaker 6: gonna be a difficult choice for the committee to make.
- 2:03Speaker 6: I mean, you've got to play your way in. Are
- 2:04Speaker 6: you gonna lose your way out. It's just that simple
- 2:06Speaker 6: with all these teams. For the mid majors and low majors,
- 2:09Speaker 6: it's all about the tournament because they recognize the own
- 2:11Speaker 6: there's only going to be a one bid league for
- 2:13Speaker 6: the rest of the league's it's all about the grind
- 2:15Speaker 6: correct of a regular season championship, and I think that's
- 2:18Speaker 6: what matters most.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Okay, so there's a lot there, and I want to
- 2:22Speaker 3: preface this before responding to what Bruce Pearl was saying.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I love it when guys are honest when they're not
- 2:29Speaker 3: giving coach speak as being an analyst. But I give
- 2:34Speaker 3: kudos to everyone who follows college basketball that saw right
- 2:39Speaker 3: through the point that Bruce Pearl was making. And if
- 2:42Speaker 3: you don't believe me, and if you don't believe the
- 2:43Speaker 3: thousands that saw through the point that Bruce Pearl was making.
- 2:48Speaker 3: He's also the former coach at Auburn, where we know
- 2:50Speaker 3: that his son is now the head coach. Just take
- 2:53Speaker 3: a guess. Iowa, Sam Joe Lunardi. He's the one that
- 2:57Speaker 3: made the bracketology phrase popular. Joe Lunardi is mister bracketology.
- 3:02Speaker 3: There are a lot of different other bracket predictors in
- 3:05Speaker 3: college basketball now. It is a great exercise that I'd love.
- 3:09Speaker 3: I read all of them, just like I read mock drafts.
- 3:12Speaker 3: But take one guess at what team is the first
- 3:16Speaker 3: one on the outside looking in of the NC DOUBLEA
- 3:20Speaker 3: Tournament in the latest bracket sent out by Joe Lunardi,
- 3:24Speaker 3: And it is not the Miami of Ohio RedHawks. The
- 3:27Speaker 3: one team that would be on the outside looking in
- 3:30Speaker 3: that Bruce Pearl would say, this is why Miami does
- 3:33Speaker 3: not deserve to be in the tournament. Who would that
- 3:35Speaker 3: team be?
- 3:36Speaker 7: My guess is Auburn.
- 3:37Speaker 8: That is correct, Auburn first one, first four out. Not
- 3:42Speaker 8: only are the first four out, they're the first one out.
- 3:45Speaker 8: They would be the team that is on the outside
- 3:48Speaker 8: looking in because right now their resume would not match
- 3:51Speaker 8: up with the rest of college basketball. I'm gonna tell
- 3:54Speaker 8: you something, Bruce Pearl's going to be watching the games
- 3:57Speaker 8: no matter what happens in the NC DOUBLEA Tournament. There
- 3:59Speaker 8: is one fan that is going to turn into an
- 4:03Speaker 8: nc DOUBLEA tournament game that isn't already an Auburn fan
- 4:07Speaker 8: that is going to tune in to watch Auburn play
- 4:09Speaker 8: if they were to get in the tournament does not happen.
- 4:11Speaker 8: Miami of Ohio is the story. And you can rip
- 4:15Speaker 8: apart what Miami of Ohio has done this season, but
- 4:19Speaker 8: to me to have a team now, if they get
- 4:23Speaker 8: into the nc doublea tournament unbeaten, it means they win
- 4:25Speaker 8: their conference tournament, which Bruce Pearl kind of laid out.
- 4:29Speaker 8: But if they end up taking a loss along the way,
- 4:31Speaker 8: they are still going to be the team to prove it.
- 4:33Speaker 8: And never in the history of the NCUBA Tournament as
- 4:36Speaker 8: a team won twenty eight or more games have been
- 4:38Speaker 8: left out of the dance. Miami of Ohio right now
- 4:41Speaker 8: is twenty nine to zero, and while half of their
- 4:43Speaker 8: wins may come against Quad four teams, they are a story.
- 4:46Speaker 8: They do not have the opportunity within their conference to
- 4:49Speaker 8: get the sort of strength of schedule that an Auburn
- 4:52Speaker 8: would be able to do in the SEC or any
- 4:54Speaker 8: other school that is sitting there on the bubble, whether
- 4:56Speaker 8: you're in the Big Ten or the Big twelve. Miami
- 4:59Speaker 8: of Ohio would become the story. And there's this conversation
- 5:04Speaker 8: that also is swirling around college basketball at this point,
- 5:08Speaker 8: and it's is this the last time we are going
- 5:10Speaker 8: to see sixty eight schools in the NCAA Tournament. Probably,
- 5:16Speaker 8: I'm gonna tell you it's probably the last time. The
- 5:18Speaker 8: discussion is going to happen after the NCAA Tournament where
- 5:21Speaker 8: the field will be expanded to seventy two or seventy
- 5:24Speaker 8: six teams. But you're not gonna hear a complaint from
- 5:28Speaker 8: me about the expansion of the tournament because I don't
- 5:31Speaker 8: think it affects what matters most, And what matters most
- 5:34Speaker 8: to us is the brackets. The brackets that we get
- 5:37Speaker 8: to fill out on Thursday and Friday. The teams that
- 5:42Speaker 8: will be put into the NCUBA Tournament when you expand
- 5:45Speaker 8: to seventy two and seventy six are not Miami of Ohio.
- 5:50Speaker 8: There was one voice that says we don't need expansion
- 5:52Speaker 8: right now. It is a very powerful voice in college basketball.
- 5:56Speaker 8: It is the one of coach Mike Krzyzewski, who was
- 6:00Speaker 8: on the field of sixty eight after dark and said
- 6:03Speaker 8: this about the possible expansion of the NCAA tournament.
- 6:06Speaker 9: There are less teams capable right now than ever before,
- 6:12Speaker 9: and there are many have nots, and it's not their fault.
- 6:15Speaker 9: And I don't think you mess with something that has gold.
- 6:19Speaker 9: It's gold. I think the thing you should mess with
- 6:23Speaker 9: is getting a leadership group and having them study and
- 6:28Speaker 9: see what happens with that group. You know it's not
- 6:32Speaker 9: just one person, but actually they should run it like
- 6:35Speaker 9: the NBA and have a staff and all that thing,
- 6:39Speaker 9: would run it like a business. But I wouldn't mess
- 6:42Speaker 9: with gold right now, and dance DOAA tournament is certainly that.
- 6:46Speaker 3: His first comment is the one that's most striking to me,
- 6:49Speaker 3: and I open it up to you guys, Jason Stewart Iowa,
- 6:51Speaker 3: Sam and Isaac longcron his point of the sixty ninth team,
- 6:55Speaker 3: and it's not the sixty ninth best team in college
- 6:57Speaker 3: basketball because there are at large bids. We're talking about
- 7:00Speaker 3: the thirty fifth fortieth team in college Basketball's not worthy
- 7:04Speaker 3: of winning an NCAA tournament and is not going to
- 7:06Speaker 3: win an NCUBAA tournament.
- 7:08Speaker 4: So why expand it?
- 7:09Speaker 3: And I completely agree with coach k But the expansion
- 7:12Speaker 3: of the NCAA tournament is four more money and four
- 7:15Speaker 3: more games in for the NCAA Tournament. It's also usually
- 7:17Speaker 3: for coaches who want to keep their jobs so when
- 7:20Speaker 3: they're on the bubble, like teams last year, Ohio State, Indiana,
- 7:24Speaker 3: West Virginia, all teams that were left out of the
- 7:26Speaker 3: NCAA Tournament. They were the first four teams, three of
- 7:28Speaker 3: the first four teams. The other was Boise State from
- 7:31Speaker 3: the Mountain West Conference. It allows those coaches to say,
- 7:33Speaker 3: we made it to the NCAA Tournament in an expanded format.
- 7:36Speaker 3: If you want to go to the next four, that's
- 7:37Speaker 3: fine to expand it to seventy six. But the expansion
- 7:40Speaker 3: of the NCAA Tournament is not for the schools like
- 7:43Speaker 3: Miami of Ohio, and that's why it's that much more
- 7:46Speaker 3: important that that school gets into the tournament, because that
- 7:49Speaker 3: school is going to be a story. Nobody cared unless
- 7:52Speaker 3: you're a who's your fan? If Indiana got in last year.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Nobody cared if West Virginia got in unless you were
- 7:56Speaker 3: a Mountaineer fan. Buckeye fans didn't even care. I for
- 7:58Speaker 3: Ohio State really got in. It was maybe Jake Deebler
- 8:01Speaker 3: and the twelve guys that were on the team the
- 8:03Speaker 3: decline to vote to or had a vote to decline
- 8:06Speaker 3: a spot in any other postseason tournament, it's the stories
- 8:11Speaker 3: of those schools. So when Miami of Ohio comes in
- 8:14Speaker 3: with a mark and if it is thirty one to
- 8:17Speaker 3: one because they lose in the conference tournament, you are
- 8:19Speaker 3: going to care about what Miami of Ohio does that
- 8:22Speaker 3: is good for the NC Double A tournament. No one
- 8:25Speaker 3: is going to care what Auburn does in the NC
- 8:27Speaker 3: Double A tournament. And when we talk about Cinderellas and
- 8:30Speaker 3: where Cinderellas are, and I feel that we're moving away
- 8:32Speaker 3: from Cinderella's with nil, I think there's a very good
- 8:35Speaker 3: chance we could have three number one seeds make the
- 8:37Speaker 3: final four this year, maybe even do what happened last year,
- 8:40Speaker 3: which was the second time only where we've had four
- 8:43Speaker 3: number one seeds make it to the final four. We
- 8:46Speaker 3: had it in two thousand and eight, we had it
- 8:47Speaker 3: last year. But you're seeing some dominant teams in college basketball,
- 8:51Speaker 3: so Cinderella is starting to be pushed away. Cinderella is
- 8:54Speaker 3: not going to be let in with the expansion, So
- 8:56Speaker 3: why do we want to push them out? Even with
- 9:00Speaker 3: half of their record being quad four wins to be
- 9:02Speaker 3: able to win every single game. And by the way,
- 9:04Speaker 3: there are a lot of close ones. There's a skill
- 9:07Speaker 3: to that, and that's why Miami of Ohio needs to
- 9:09Speaker 3: be in the NCUBLEA Tournament.
- 9:11Speaker 4: So Bruce Pearl.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Had his platform. I love what he says because he
- 9:14Speaker 3: felt it with his He said it with his chest,
- 9:16Speaker 3: and he said it with his heart. But the problem
- 9:17Speaker 3: is his heart was getting in the way because of
- 9:19Speaker 3: his son being the head coach at Auburn. I mean, seriously,
- 9:22Speaker 3: if I asked Sam, if asked Jason, would you rather
- 9:25Speaker 3: see Auburn or Miami of Ohio in the NCAA Tournament,
- 9:29Speaker 3: anybody I Miami, Yes, yes, yes, Jason, Yeah, I'd rather
- 9:36Speaker 3: see the team that I know the least about.
- 9:38Speaker 4: Yeah in Isaac.
- 9:39Speaker 10: From Miami, Ohio, Rod Harper. I would like to add
- 9:45Speaker 10: just one thing. I would have liked mister Pearl to
- 9:49Speaker 10: at least have given some reasons and inside supporting his
- 9:54Speaker 10: opinion about Miami of Ohio, because just a cursory glance
- 9:59Speaker 10: will tell you that they lead the entire nation in
- 10:02Speaker 10: field goal shooting at fifty three percent. In terms of
- 10:06Speaker 10: total offense in the nation, they are second in the nation.
- 10:11Speaker 10: But then you know, you break down their schedule. I mean,
- 10:14Speaker 10: they really haven't played any impressive non conference they've.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Played, They've played no one. They really have played no one.
- 10:20Speaker 3: But that's not the point to me. And I think
- 10:24Speaker 3: that there are other mid majors and lower majors that
- 10:26Speaker 3: may take offense to what Miami of Ohio has done,
- 10:30Speaker 3: But there is something to be said about running the
- 10:34Speaker 3: table in your conference. Akrons fifteen to one, they're knocking
- 10:38Speaker 3: on the twenty four and five. Akron may say, well,
- 10:40Speaker 3: we have just as much of a chance to get
- 10:42Speaker 3: and as they do. They're gonna be other gripes, but
- 10:44Speaker 3: no one here is talking about Akron right now. Like
- 10:47Speaker 3: Miami of Ohio has also carried this burden of being
- 10:49Speaker 3: undefeated and been putting the spotlight over the last month
- 10:53Speaker 3: and have been able to survive in a lot of
- 10:56Speaker 3: close games and be able to carry that burden. There
- 10:59Speaker 3: is something with that I don't want to always rely on,
- 11:03Speaker 3: like this is a TV show, but this is what
- 11:05Speaker 3: people want to see, and it's different if it's the
- 11:09Speaker 3: other way around, and putting a power four in over
- 11:11Speaker 3: a group of four, or or a mid major or
- 11:14Speaker 3: a low major It's a completely different scenario. And so
- 11:18Speaker 3: for what Miami of Ohio represents everything that we love
- 11:22Speaker 3: about the NCAA Tournament, I think they have to be
- 11:24Speaker 3: in even if they get a blemish between now in
- 11:26Speaker 3: selection Sunday.
- 11:27Speaker 10: And Dan I will say this, you know, even taking
- 11:30Speaker 10: into consideration the lack of comparable strength of schedule with
- 11:34Speaker 10: power conferences. Having a thirteen and oh road record against
- 11:39Speaker 10: any Division one schedule, I mean that is impressive, no
- 11:43Speaker 10: matter who your competition is at the D one level
- 11:46Speaker 10: to go thirteen and oh on the road as a
- 11:49Speaker 10: college basketball team. So I would be fascinated to see
- 11:52Speaker 10: how they would match up. And I'm curious, is there
- 11:54Speaker 10: any comparable story of one of these mid majors who
- 11:59Speaker 10: got accepted into the NCAA Tournament as an at large
- 12:04Speaker 10: bid that has happened in the past, Because if Miami
- 12:07Speaker 10: gets in, say as an at large bid, and then
- 12:10Speaker 10: they get blown out by some random at large team
- 12:14Speaker 10: from a power conference, maybe we have our answer.
- 12:17Speaker 3: I will say this. I think that there are times
- 12:19Speaker 3: and over the last couple of years, there was a
- 12:21Speaker 3: push for the Mountain West, and the Mountain West unfortunately
- 12:24Speaker 3: did not live up to their end. Of the bargain
- 12:25Speaker 3: in terms of winning actual games in the NCAA tournament.
- 12:29Speaker 3: But you would have five Mountain West Conference teams because
- 12:31Speaker 3: they're all beating up on each other at that point
- 12:33Speaker 3: in one game. Doesn't necessarily do it. But if they
- 12:36Speaker 3: get beaten, that's something for the committee then to consider
- 12:39Speaker 3: the next time around. If they lose by twenty, but
- 12:41Speaker 3: if they would go in to play within a two
- 12:43Speaker 3: point game or a four four point game, you absolutely
- 12:46Speaker 3: prove you're you're worth in the tournament. Jason Stewart on
- 12:49Speaker 3: coach k what.
- 12:51Speaker 11: He said about the bracket being pristine, how it's been
- 12:55Speaker 11: this like sixty four forever. I know the sixty eight
- 12:58Speaker 11: that I don't really even think about. I care about
- 13:01Speaker 11: like margin accounting, and I care about making it as
- 13:04Speaker 11: easy for her as possible to fill out her bracket.
- 13:07Speaker 11: I don't want to just add teams to add teams.
- 13:10Speaker 11: They'll also like pull on your heartstrings and be like, well,
- 13:13Speaker 11: more kids will be able to feel what it's like
- 13:16Speaker 11: to be in the tournament. Well, do you really want
- 13:18Speaker 11: to be a part of a more water down tournament?
- 13:20Speaker 11: Is that going to mean a lot more to you
- 13:22Speaker 11: than margin accounting being able to easily fill out her
- 13:26Speaker 11: bracket is sixty four.
- 13:27Speaker 4: My answer is no, I was Sam, and I'm gonna
- 13:30Speaker 4: respond after.
- 13:31Speaker 7: I think that the way the NCAA tournament and the
- 13:33Speaker 7: bracket is set up is, of course, the national champion
- 13:36Speaker 7: takes home, you know, the flowers and the trophy. But
- 13:38Speaker 7: we look at this tournament like how far you got
- 13:40Speaker 7: in the tournament. It's maybe Miami of Ohio wins a
- 13:43Speaker 7: game and they look at that and they're like, we
- 13:45Speaker 7: had one loss, but we also won a game. The
- 13:46Speaker 7: nca tournament it's not always about the champ. It is
- 13:48Speaker 7: about the champion ultimately. But we remember the NCAA tournament
- 13:52Speaker 7: by oh, your Sweet sixteen appearance, your earlit eight appearance,
- 13:55Speaker 7: going far in the tournament. And basically the Mac, you
- 13:58Speaker 7: know mind Evil High hasn't played anybody, and the MAC
- 14:01Speaker 7: has a perception issue working against them because they haven't
- 14:03Speaker 7: made They haven't made a Sweet sixteen since twenty twelve
- 14:06Speaker 7: when it was John Gross is currently the coach at Akron.
- 14:09Speaker 7: He got there with Ohio and then before that, the
- 14:11Speaker 7: Elite eight was I think Kent State in two thousand
- 14:13Speaker 7: and four. So the MAC is not a great NCAA
- 14:16Speaker 7: tournament team. But you know they you got to reward
- 14:19Speaker 7: the work, you got to reward the winning, and so
- 14:21Speaker 7: I'm in. I've always been in favor of like letting
- 14:23Speaker 7: more teams in, but the MAC is not like a
- 14:26Speaker 7: team that has a good pre se a pre conference
- 14:30Speaker 7: in non conference resume in terms of like doing a
- 14:32Speaker 7: lot of work for their reputation.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Go ahead.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I was just gonna say, people feel that Auburn is
- 14:38Speaker 3: getting slider in the Miami of Ohio doesn't play anyone.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Auburn has an opportunity to improve their resume every single
- 14:45Speaker 3: game that they play in the SEC. Miami of Ohio
- 14:48Speaker 3: has not gained anything from their wins. They have been
- 14:51Speaker 3: in a lose lose situation essentially throughout this conference season.
- 14:56Speaker 3: So you can say that that strength of schedule, but
- 14:59Speaker 3: I also look at it as opportunity and the point
- 15:01Speaker 3: that Jason talks about making sure that margin Accounting can
- 15:04Speaker 3: fill out her bracket, none of this is going to
- 15:07Speaker 3: affect it. And by the way, Margin a County probably
- 15:09Speaker 3: gonna put Miami of Ohio and the Sweet sixteen because
- 15:12Speaker 3: she's actually heard about people talking about them. Right now,
- 15:14Speaker 3: I'll leave you Isaac with the final point.
- 15:16Speaker 10: By the way, follow marge in Accounting at marge In Accounting,
- 15:20Speaker 10: by the way, the most popular new side of aio.
- 15:22Speaker 4: So Jason said margin accounting. At first, like, I thought.
- 15:25Speaker 5: It was like a numbers that's a financial chan margin accounting.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I thought it was. And then I
- 15:29Speaker 3: realized he was calling calling her marge.
- 15:33Speaker 10: Feel free to disagree with me on this even though
- 15:35Speaker 10: I'm right, But it seems to me that in say,
- 15:39Speaker 10: the last five to ten years, I, as a sports fan,
- 15:44Speaker 10: have felt that the opening weekend and the second weekend
- 15:48Speaker 10: of the NCAA tournament has been more memorable than the
- 15:52Speaker 10: final four itself. That's just my opinion over the last
- 15:55Speaker 10: five to ten years. How do you guys feel?
- 15:57Speaker 4: I agree one hundred and ten percent. A lot of
- 15:58Speaker 4: stimulation that for I think for sure.
- 16:00Speaker 3: I actually think the Monday of the championship game is
- 16:02Speaker 3: usually a letdown unless it's an amazing game. More people
- 16:06Speaker 3: will say that the final four Saturday is even better
- 16:08Speaker 3: than the national Championship game, but nothing beats the Thursday
- 16:11Speaker 3: and Friday. By the way, the expanding of the tournament
- 16:13Speaker 3: will not change your Thursday and Friday. It's just it's
- 16:15Speaker 3: not going to But don't get it twisted that the
- 16:18Speaker 3: expansion of the tournament is going to let a team
- 16:20Speaker 3: in like Miami of Ohio. No, it's going to be
- 16:22Speaker 3: letting in all the teams that are on the bubble
- 16:24Speaker 3: from the Power four conferences, like the Auburn is the
- 16:27Speaker 3: first one looking in, like a Virginia Tech, like a
- 16:30Speaker 3: USC like a cal like in West Virginia, like those schools.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Those are the schools that are going to be getting in,
- 16:36Speaker 3: not your low to mid majors, all right. It is
- 16:38Speaker 3: Stu Gotson Company Live here on Fox Sports Radio.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gotson Company
- 16:44Speaker 2: Live weekdays at three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific on

- 16:53Speaker 1: Jake, we'll get to his last damage just a second
- 16:55Speaker 1: from John Boy Media is joining us. Thanks to Bamadi
- 16:58Speaker 1: Jones for joining us in now number one. He is
- 17:01Speaker 1: the host of Talking Baseball with Trevor ploof Am I
- 17:04Speaker 1: saying that last name correctly nailed it nail all right,
- 17:08Speaker 1: and also talking Yanks and I can't wait just what
- 17:10Speaker 1: I need another Yankee fan on the zoom here. But Jake,
- 17:14Speaker 1: how do you pronounce your last name because I asked
- 17:16Speaker 1: you this before we started. I asked you a question
- 17:18Speaker 1: and you answered the question about your last name with
- 17:20Speaker 1: a question.
- 17:21Speaker 12: So so story Lee, I think is where we traditionally
- 17:25Speaker 12: land story Realey. See, I don't even know. I think
- 17:28Speaker 12: I just told you story aale before we had on
- 17:30Speaker 12: the mics, and then story al comes up.
- 17:32Speaker 4: That.
- 17:32Speaker 13: Man, it's one of those things. Just as a little kid.
- 17:36Speaker 12: You heard all of it, and I don't really care,
- 17:38Speaker 12: and nobody in my family gets that like Italian tough
- 17:42Speaker 12: about it.
- 17:42Speaker 13: So I don't know story Ellie.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Sure, yeah, but it's your last name. Listen, Okay, my
- 17:47Speaker 1: last name was Wiener.
- 17:48Speaker 4: I heard all of it.
- 17:49Speaker 14: Okay, you didn't hear anything.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Just how do you pronounce your last name?
- 17:53Speaker 13: Call me Jake Wiener. I don't know. I'm good with
- 17:55Speaker 13: I'm good with all of.
- 17:56Speaker 4: It, all right.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Jake Wiener is with us here, Steve Gotson company Jake.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Before we get to I know, we want to discuss
- 18:05Speaker 1: some baseball, but I'm wondering just more of a macro
- 18:08Speaker 1: thing here with the game. Are you in favor of
- 18:10Speaker 1: someone who loves baseball? Would you want to see a.
- 18:13Speaker 14: Salary cap installed in Major League baseball, So.
- 18:16Speaker 13: I do not.
- 18:17Speaker 12: I originally did when when we first got into this,
- 18:21Speaker 12: as you know, we kind of got thrown into the
- 18:23Speaker 12: industry by accident a little bit.
- 18:25Speaker 13: Because I love the beauty of sports.
- 18:27Speaker 12: I love you know that the bottom part of baseball
- 18:31Speaker 12: is a problem, and I believe in competition and a
- 18:34Speaker 12: fair playing field. But a salary camp isn't the answer
- 18:38Speaker 12: to that, Like that's other sports have that, and we
- 18:41Speaker 12: see teams that still struggle year in year out with
- 18:43Speaker 12: it that it's how you run your organization. And as
- 18:47Speaker 12: we got close to the players, I guess this is
- 18:49Speaker 12: the part that I don't know if I've been too
- 18:51Speaker 12: blinded by it.
- 18:52Speaker 13: Players will never accept a salary cap.
- 18:54Speaker 12: And ever when I saw the Otani contract and the
- 18:57Speaker 12: way players have talked about it, like that's why, so
- 19:01Speaker 12: they they will never and there's not there really isn't
- 19:04Speaker 12: a need to except kind of we just see it
- 19:07Speaker 12: in the other sports and like, oh, that's what they do,
- 19:09Speaker 12: but that doesn't mean it works.
- 19:10Speaker 13: So no, I am not.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Is there a small part of you that wonders if
- 19:15Speaker 1: it was capped, if the Dodgers would be this good?
- 19:19Speaker 13: Yeah?
- 19:20Speaker 14: Right of course, yes.
- 19:21Speaker 12: Come on, man, it's no you know, I know we're
- 19:24Speaker 12: gonna get into a little bit of recent Yankee nostalgia,
- 19:27Speaker 12: but like the way that people talk about the Dodgers
- 19:31Speaker 12: are kind of the Yankees teams I grew up with that.
- 19:33Speaker 12: I don't send a lot of hate towards the Dodgers there.
- 19:36Speaker 12: They're One advantage that I still don't know how I
- 19:39Speaker 12: feel about is if every good Asian player wants to
- 19:43Speaker 12: sign there instead of somewhere else, that's kind of tough
- 19:46Speaker 12: because by the way, they won the last WBC Japan did,
- 19:50Speaker 12: so that is the one advantage. Otherwise they can do whatever,
- 19:53Speaker 12: like it was called the Coen Tax. The Yankees used
- 19:57Speaker 12: to be that team. So I don't get as bob
- 20:00Speaker 12: as everyone else. And then my jab to the Dodgers
- 20:02Speaker 12: on the way out. If IKF gets a secondary lead,
- 20:05Speaker 12: they don't win the last World Series.
- 20:06Speaker 14: So nice Jet, well done.
- 20:09Speaker 15: But Jake, you compare it to the Yankees teams that
- 20:13Speaker 15: we grew up watching and that they were the problem,
- 20:17Speaker 15: you know back then, But they were also built on
- 20:20Speaker 15: homegrown players that they then paid. They weren't built on
- 20:24Speaker 15: Oh that's the best player available from that market, I'm
- 20:27Speaker 15: going to sign him. Because you look at this Dodgers
- 20:29Speaker 15: lineup top to bottom and it's like two guys that
- 20:32Speaker 15: came up through their system.
- 20:35Speaker 13: Yeah, you're right.
- 20:37Speaker 12: I guess the where they deserve more credit is eight.
- 20:40Speaker 12: They're ahead of pretty much every organization on every front.
- 20:44Speaker 12: So like they've had prospects, they just trade them like
- 20:47Speaker 12: they traded for Mookie Bets that one didn't end up
- 20:49Speaker 12: hurting them. And then the other thing where they do
- 20:52Speaker 12: deserve credit is, yes, they're spending money, but how many
- 20:55Speaker 12: teams do we talk about them having that one contract
- 20:58Speaker 12: that kills them.
- 20:59Speaker 13: The Dodgers don't really have that.
- 21:01Speaker 12: Like, yes, they get a little bit more flexibility around
- 21:04Speaker 12: their pitching. Where they had a ton of injuries and
- 21:06Speaker 12: they could take a chance on Glass, now they can
- 21:08Speaker 12: take a chance on Snell even though they have an
- 21:10Speaker 12: injury history, where other teams don't have to do that.
- 21:13Speaker 12: But Matt Freddie Freeman was a free agent and didn't
- 21:15Speaker 12: want to go there, remember the hole.
- 21:17Speaker 13: He wanted to stay in Atlanta.
- 21:18Speaker 12: Like they have where they have spent their money, they've
- 21:22Speaker 12: done really good at it, so they they deserve credit
- 21:26Speaker 12: on all fronts. And yes, it's you know, there's a
- 21:29Speaker 12: lot of teams that wish they could spend half of
- 21:31Speaker 12: what the Dodgers do, So I I do get that
- 21:33Speaker 12: part of it. But the Dodgers, no one should be
- 21:36Speaker 12: knocking what they've done like they've They've crushed it.
- 21:39Speaker 16: Jay Dodgers' clear best team in baseball. They add Kyle
- 21:42Speaker 16: Tucker Edwin Diaz to kind of address the only weaknesses
- 21:45Speaker 16: they had. It feels like this year going into the season,
- 21:48Speaker 16: the gap between like teams two through twelve is razor thin,
- 21:53Speaker 16: and it just kind of comes down to what you prefer.
- 21:56Speaker 16: Who do you think is the second best team in
- 21:58Speaker 16: baseball as we enter season?
- 22:01Speaker 12: Man, we just did power rankings because, as I'm sure
- 22:04Speaker 12: Stu knows, like that click has worked throughout time, and
- 22:09Speaker 12: it is such a losing exercise, especially right now with
- 22:12Speaker 12: where baseball is at that I honestly and this wasn't
- 22:16Speaker 12: for the click, This wasn't for the view. When I
- 22:18Speaker 12: was looking at all the teams, the team I feel
- 22:20Speaker 12: the second most confident about is the Milwaukee Brewers because
- 22:24Speaker 12: I know on the pitching side of the ball, they
- 22:26Speaker 12: are advanced above most other teams and they actually have
- 22:31Speaker 12: talented like ms Rowski's a freak show Brandon Woodriff when
- 22:35Speaker 12: you actually go through his numbers, who he has been
- 22:37Speaker 12: since the twenty twenties, Like he's the leader, that they
- 22:40Speaker 12: have a great bullpen every year, they catch the ball
- 22:42Speaker 12: every year and between contrarasts between Chario, between Yelich and
- 22:46Speaker 12: then everyone else on their team who runs well, catches
- 22:50Speaker 12: the ball well, and does something else well. Like I
- 22:53Speaker 12: know that they're going to put a good product out
- 22:55Speaker 12: there that I put them second on my power rankings,
- 22:57Speaker 12: and I power rank where it gets tricky as if
- 23:01Speaker 12: you just look at talent on paper, I don't know
- 23:03Speaker 12: if I pick them, but when I look at the
- 23:05Speaker 12: uniform and who they have, I do.
- 23:08Speaker 15: Who's a team that you're kind of lower on that
- 23:10Speaker 15: a lot of people are are really high on.
- 23:13Speaker 13: Ooh, this is makes the fun part. Yeah, right, let's see.
- 23:19Speaker 12: The team that got the most mad at me was
- 23:21Speaker 12: the New York Metropolitans. I had them at eleventh.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Right when you say they got mad at you, Jake,
- 23:26Speaker 1: I'm sorry to cut you off.
- 23:28Speaker 14: Like what happened there?
- 23:28Speaker 1: You put out the power rankings and someone from the
- 23:30Speaker 1: Mets reach out to you.
- 23:31Speaker 14: What happened?
- 23:32Speaker 12: So you well know, like we're it's a losing game
- 23:35Speaker 12: and where our social media team couldn't get more excited
- 23:38Speaker 12: when we do power rankings because.
- 23:39Speaker 1: We're right, because they know they know they're mindless and
- 23:42Speaker 1: fake and they mean nothing.
- 23:43Speaker 13: Right preseason Baseball power rankings.
- 23:47Speaker 12: Really, you're really in it that the Mets fans like
- 23:51Speaker 12: they arguably had a top three off season, but they're
- 23:55Speaker 12: also okay if I'm respecting the Brewers Jersey, I still
- 23:59Speaker 12: see a little something with the Mets jersey, and they
- 24:01Speaker 12: had an epic collapse last year while also losing their
- 24:05Speaker 12: franchise leader in home runs like the Lindor injury. Now
- 24:10Speaker 12: going into the season, they have a lot of positions
- 24:13Speaker 12: that are open in different ways that like, I shouldn't
- 24:17Speaker 12: be in love with the Mets. I see there's a
- 24:20Speaker 12: lot of talent there, but that was probably the one
- 24:22Speaker 12: that people were were the most hot about.
- 24:24Speaker 13: But that could also just be Mets Yankee stuff.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Taylor and Mike have been annoying me because they're upset
- 24:31Speaker 1: about the vibes around this Yankee team because they are
- 24:34Speaker 1: running back basically the same exact team as they had
- 24:37Speaker 1: last year. How do you feel about the vibes of
- 24:40Speaker 1: the Yankees and can you tell Taylor and Mikey to
- 24:42Speaker 1: shut them up. Yeah no, I mean, I love you guys,
- 24:47Speaker 1: but vibes the Yankees running back the same team.
- 24:51Speaker 14: I mean, the team is good.
- 24:52Speaker 12: The team is good. And that's where it's two different
- 24:55Speaker 12: things here. It's the Yankee fans we're told to be
- 24:58Speaker 12: and it's the Yankee fans we are now. Now we're
- 25:02Speaker 12: talking about the Dodgers on a different pantheon, which okay,
- 25:05Speaker 12: that should be strike one right there. And then if
- 25:07Speaker 12: you go through teams two through twelve kind of like
- 25:10Speaker 12: Taylor mentioned, like they're the same right now and that's
- 25:15Speaker 12: not what the Yankees are supposed to be. So in
- 25:17Speaker 12: that way, it's right. In another way, they do have
- 25:21Speaker 12: some pitching depth and some you know, they had technically
- 25:25Speaker 12: the best lineup last year, which there's some judge funny
- 25:28Speaker 12: business math in there, but they also have that guy.
- 25:30Speaker 13: So let's take the funny business math.
- 25:33Speaker 12: And I just think maybe Baseball's I don't want to
- 25:36Speaker 12: say baseball's problem right now, because there's a couple of them,
- 25:39Speaker 12: but it's two seasons. It's survived the first half of
- 25:43Speaker 12: the season and see how good your team is, and
- 25:45Speaker 12: then the trade deadline fill your holes. The Yankees brought
- 25:48Speaker 12: in a whole different back end of the bullpen last year,
- 25:50Speaker 12: Like you can add at the deadline now if you're
- 25:54Speaker 12: willing to give up actual prospect capital, and the Yankees
- 25:57Speaker 12: actually do have some real prospect capital this year or
- 26:00Speaker 12: not the Yankees heype machine prospect capital.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Which team in Major League Baseball top to bottom has
- 26:05Speaker 1: the best pitching staff?
- 26:06Speaker 14: Is that obvious? Is it the Dodgers?
- 26:08Speaker 12: Or yeah, the Dodgers aren't an interesting scale. I guess
- 26:13Speaker 12: if it's not that.
- 26:13Speaker 1: You talk about baseball and exclude the Dodgers from the conversation.
- 26:17Speaker 12: That's kind of what it is, and that's that's insane.
- 26:20Speaker 12: But I would say the two teams that jump out
- 26:22Speaker 12: are Seattle and the Phillies. The Phillies off Zach Wheeler
- 26:26Speaker 12: comes back, and is that Zach Wheeler. Their bullpen on
- 26:29Speaker 12: the back end is actually stronger than it's looked like
- 26:31Speaker 12: in past years with doron and they Brad Keller, who's
- 26:35Speaker 12: kind of one of those new starters who's transitioning to
- 26:38Speaker 12: the bullpen very well. And Seattle like they're somehow we've
- 26:42Speaker 12: become bored with their starting pitching group, but they're there,
- 26:46Speaker 12: and you know, they kind of made their first leap
- 26:49Speaker 12: next year. This is kind of the real test of like,
- 26:51Speaker 12: all right, who are they gonna be?
- 26:53Speaker 1: Yeah, Seattle's just boring, right, Like we don't care about Seattle.
- 26:56Speaker 1: It's so far removed from all the other states, Like
- 26:59Speaker 1: it's just a there in the Northwest. It's by Canada,
- 27:02Speaker 1: it's close to Vancouver. I mean, the Seahawks won a
- 27:04Speaker 1: Super Bowl and everyone yawned.
- 27:05Speaker 12: You know, it's an interesting because you know they got
- 27:09Speaker 12: that Pat the twelfth Man, right, No, man, it's bizarre.
- 27:12Speaker 12: I had a weird I'm on my couch last night
- 27:14Speaker 12: and I see the video of Julio Rodriguez coming off
- 27:17Speaker 12: the coming off the team bus for Team dr and
- 27:20Speaker 12: I'm like, okay, so we've got one of the most
- 27:22Speaker 12: handsome fellas on the planet place maybe my favorite position
- 27:26Speaker 12: defensively as well as anyone. And it's like, and okay,
- 27:29Speaker 12: they're catchers, big dumper, Like what what simulation is this that? Yes,
- 27:34Speaker 12: there should be something a little sexier about Seattle.
- 27:37Speaker 14: Right, except you feel like you need a passport when
- 27:39Speaker 14: you travel there.
- 27:40Speaker 13: I mean it's a different place, Yes, I.
- 27:42Speaker 14: Can tell it. Put that on the poll. Do you
- 27:43Speaker 14: need a passport when you travel to Seattle, got Jake.
- 27:47Speaker 16: It feels like me and mikey a align on most
- 27:50Speaker 16: things when it comes to Yankees. One of the things
- 27:52Speaker 16: recently that we kind of had a disagreement on. I
- 27:55Speaker 16: don't think CC Sabathia is Jersey retirement great when it
- 27:59Speaker 16: comes to Yankees, and I'm curious where you kind of
- 28:02Speaker 16: fall there.
- 28:03Speaker 12: It's the CC listening No, I man, I don't know
- 28:08Speaker 12: I what C. C. Sabathia represented for the Yankees coming
- 28:12Speaker 12: over from OH nine winning that World Series, who he
- 28:16Speaker 12: was as a leader, and I guess where he is
- 28:18Speaker 12: in baseball history. The thing that we've referenced on talking Yanks,
- 28:22Speaker 12: because you know, CEC. When you look at the career
- 28:25Speaker 12: stats and all pitchers are in this place right now,
- 28:28Speaker 12: that the Hall of Fame is gonna have to kind
- 28:30Speaker 12: of change how they look at starting pitchers. CC is
- 28:33Speaker 12: the third lefty ever to strike out three thousand hitters,
- 28:37Speaker 12: And when you think about that, you're like, Okay, I
- 28:39Speaker 12: think Carlton and Randy Johnson. So like, I don't know
- 28:42Speaker 12: who who C. C. Sabathia is in the game. I
- 28:46Speaker 12: get that there's a Yankee side to that argument that
- 28:48Speaker 12: you know, if you started ranking each Yankee by uniform number,
- 28:52Speaker 12: CEC's probably towards the bottom third there.
- 28:55Speaker 13: There's a couple others behind CEC.
- 28:57Speaker 12: That it is what it is like, I don't know,
- 29:00Speaker 12: I'm I'm not out here to knock who Reggie Jackson
- 29:03Speaker 12: was because I didn't feel like who he was.
- 29:04Speaker 13: In that moment.
- 29:05Speaker 12: He's larger than life, he represents New York. Well, he's
- 29:08Speaker 12: still around the team. That it's I don't know, I'm
- 29:11Speaker 12: not punching pillows at home like you believe this, like
- 29:15Speaker 12: and it's a fine number to retire like that.
- 29:17Speaker 14: When do you punch pillows at home? What makes you
- 29:20Speaker 14: like talking?
- 29:21Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 29:23Speaker 12: Uh god, that's uh nope, I'm not going there, not going.
- 29:28Speaker 14: But how many of those strikeouts came as a Yankee?
- 29:31Speaker 4: You know?
- 29:32Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, you hang around the team, doesn't mean
- 29:34Speaker 1: you get your jersey retired.
- 29:35Speaker 14: I mean it's the Yankees, man, I.
- 29:37Speaker 13: Know, I know, And maybe maybe I'm part of the
- 29:39Speaker 13: problem now that I this is you're a Yankees.
- 29:43Speaker 12: Have let each little half inch slip that we've gotten
- 29:46Speaker 12: to this point. I don't know of all my qualms
- 29:49Speaker 12: with the Yankees organization. Uh in doctoring CC more into
- 29:53Speaker 12: the family.
- 29:53Speaker 13: I'm I have no qualms with that, Stu.
- 29:56Speaker 16: As a Yankee fan, it feels sacrilegious. When I'm walking around,
- 29:59Speaker 16: I'm like, hey, maybe we didn't need to retire Paul
- 30:02Speaker 16: Neil's number.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Yeah, well yeah, it's actly religious.
- 30:07Speaker 14: I think he might be more deserving. But if I'm sitting.
- 30:09Speaker 1: There and I'm rattling off Yankee greats in terms of pictures,
- 30:12Speaker 1: it's gonna take me a while before I get to C. C.
- 30:15Speaker 14: Sabbathia, you know.
- 30:17Speaker 13: Ah, So that's where I get caught up.
- 30:19Speaker 12: And now, if we're really doing this like the Yankees,
- 30:22Speaker 12: pitching lifetime is a lot slimmer than the hitting that.
- 30:25Speaker 13: I think CC might crack that rotation. Are you a
- 30:28Speaker 13: Whitey Ford guy?
- 30:29Speaker 1: I am a white I just it's so funny. I
- 30:32Speaker 1: just wrote down Whitey Ford on a piece of I
- 30:34Speaker 1: didn't finish it.
- 30:35Speaker 4: I wrote fo R.
- 30:36Speaker 14: But that just reminds me that it's Ford.
- 30:39Speaker 12: I've got other illusions for it. No, man, this is
- 30:42Speaker 12: where I don't have the historian side yet. I think
- 30:44Speaker 12: that's gonna be like my upcoming midlife crisis where I
- 30:47Speaker 12: deep dive into all of the Yankee stats and I can.
- 30:50Speaker 13: But like, I don't know.
- 30:51Speaker 12: I heard I heard Kellerman and Simmons the other day
- 30:53Speaker 12: debating if Guidry's number should be retired, and.
- 30:56Speaker 13: I don't know. I see him show up. He's got
- 30:59Speaker 13: a sick nick name.
- 31:00Speaker 14: Some of the numbers are Louisiana Lightning.
- 31:02Speaker 13: I mean, comparing Guidry and Sabathia. I can't. I can't
- 31:09Speaker 13: have that conversation currently.
- 31:10Speaker 14: Here's the way I like to do these things, Jake.
- 31:12Speaker 1: If I were to ask you, Okay, one game scenario,
- 31:15Speaker 1: start for your life, Okay, Cec Sabbathi or David Cone?
- 31:19Speaker 14: Who you taking? Oh you're taking code? I don't.
- 31:26Speaker 13: I mean what age am I getting them at?
- 31:28Speaker 14: Like prime? You're getting prime of both? Okay?
- 31:31Speaker 13: Did the Yankees have prime? Cone?
- 31:32Speaker 1: Because the follow ups here, I mean just one picture.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Choose what Jesus, what was your question? What was the
- 31:38Speaker 1: second question?
- 31:39Speaker 13: Did their prime on the Yankees?
- 31:41Speaker 1: Or their CEC's prime on the Yankees?
- 31:44Speaker 14: David Cone's prime on the Yankees?
- 31:47Speaker 12: I think I would go see Cee just that when
- 31:49Speaker 12: he initially came over, he comes off that like Milwaukee run.
- 31:54Speaker 12: Where do you remember he took the ball every third
- 31:56Speaker 12: day for the Brewers just to do it like that's
- 31:59Speaker 12: He's one of the last dying breeds to ever do that.
- 32:02Speaker 12: And I feel like Coney when he came to the Yankees.
- 32:04Speaker 12: He was David Cohne, but he was a little older
- 32:06Speaker 12: David Cone. That that's all I'm going off.
- 32:08Speaker 14: I think older David Cone was better. It was Cagy.
- 32:11Speaker 12: I mean he was I like, yes, hey, I've got
- 32:13Speaker 12: no again, Like this is the beauty. We could do
- 32:16Speaker 12: this at the end of a bar all day and
- 32:17Speaker 12: there's right or wrong and that's Hey, that's the.
- 32:20Speaker 14: Beauty of it, all right.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Jake, Jake sta Rally John Boy Media, he does talking
- 32:26Speaker 1: baseball with Trevor Ploof. I love that day and also
- 32:29Speaker 1: talking Yanks as well.
- 32:31Speaker 14: Man.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Opening Day cannot come soon enough for you, Jake. I
- 32:34Speaker 1: am concerned about you. You need games to watch. Stop
- 32:37Speaker 1: power ranking things that don't.
- 32:38Speaker 12: Matter, all right, Terry Francona in the stands. Thank you, guys.
- 32:42Speaker 12: Appreciate it. Appreciate it goes sports.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gotson Company
- 32:48Speaker 2: live weekdays at three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Bamoni Jones is with us, always nice enough to spend
- 32:56Speaker 1: some time with us, the right time with Bamani Jones,
- 32:58Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcast, asked Israel Goodierez on the
- 33:02Speaker 1: Zoom Tailor as well.
- 33:03Speaker 14: Izzy will be upset by this first question.
- 33:05Speaker 1: He's tired of me talking about Michael Jordan, I think,
- 33:07Speaker 1: and his greatness. So, Bomani, will Michael Jordan have a
- 33:12Speaker 1: better career as a NASCAR owner than Lebron James has
- 33:17Speaker 1: had as a basketball player?
- 33:21Speaker 17: You know, I gotta tell you something, man, When I
- 33:24Speaker 17: when I used to do highly questionable Yes, I figured
- 33:27Speaker 17: out a very interesting angle slash approach, which was poppy
- 33:32Speaker 17: would say something crazy right, and I would then find
- 33:37Speaker 17: some kernel that could be pulled out and turned into
- 33:41Speaker 17: something coherent right. And so it became that. And since
- 33:46Speaker 17: you made me aware that you were going to ask
- 33:49Speaker 17: this question, I have been actively seeking this, colonel. And
- 33:57Speaker 17: I mean I've looked bad, I've dug deep.
- 34:00Speaker 4: Try hard.
- 34:01Speaker 17: I just can't quite figure out how to legitimize this one.
- 34:07Speaker 17: But I can't say this. How about Lebron get himself
- 34:12Speaker 17: a NASCAR team?
- 34:13Speaker 14: About that?
- 34:14Speaker 5: Yes, I'd just be I'd.
- 34:16Speaker 17: Just be curious to see how this goes. If he
- 34:20Speaker 17: could get himself a NASCAR team and then they you know,
- 34:23Speaker 17: they they do get out.
- 34:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:25Speaker 18: I'm glad you're confused by this too, Bo, because I
- 34:28Speaker 18: too am confused by his premise that I would be
- 34:31Speaker 18: upset with him. I'm not sure, Taylor, who was the
- 34:33Speaker 18: last time we talked Michael Jordan. I don't even know
- 34:36Speaker 18: where that came from.
- 34:37Speaker 1: I mean, I bring him up anytime I can. I
- 34:38Speaker 1: think we did it last week on the radio show.
- 34:40Speaker 1: I'm only bringing up the fact that Jordan has won
- 34:42Speaker 1: three consecutive races as an owner, okay, and you know
- 34:48Speaker 1: Lebron has won four titles as an NBA player.
- 34:51Speaker 14: He's the same thing one race as an NBA title.
- 34:53Speaker 4: Okay.
- 34:54Speaker 14: I didn't realize that was the equivalent, you know.
- 34:56Speaker 17: And it came down Jordan and them forgetim, but his
- 35:00Speaker 17: name and like Tyler or Tyson or something like that.
- 35:03Speaker 17: He's like, he's not like, want to Taylor's friends.
- 35:05Speaker 5: What's his name? Tyler Reddickredick.
- 35:07Speaker 14: There we go.
- 35:08Speaker 5: Oh, that mean that could go a bunch of different directions.
- 35:11Speaker 17: So anyway, like, I do think that those three wins
- 35:17Speaker 17: are interesting. Two guys, he's acting like he came back
- 35:19Speaker 17: down three to one to the greatest team of all
- 35:21Speaker 17: time in order to pull that one off.
- 35:25Speaker 14: I'm just comparing rings because it's the laziest thing to do,
- 35:27Speaker 14: and I'm lazy. But Bonnie, that's it.
- 35:29Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, no, no, no, no no, But like we
- 35:31Speaker 5: need to.
- 35:31Speaker 17: There was a time where I feel like we would
- 35:33Speaker 17: have absolutely got Lebron out there making that happen. Like,
- 35:36Speaker 17: let's let's see. I just go, hey man, look Mike,
- 35:38Speaker 17: and Mike is already a NASCAR legend. He went out there,
- 35:41Speaker 17: he got in that lawsuit. Yeah, you know, he went
- 35:44Speaker 17: out there, scrapped it out with these people. Also, let
- 35:46Speaker 17: us I mean, it's twenty twenty six, but it'll be
- 35:50Speaker 17: twenty eighty six and Michael George's black ass owner a
- 35:53Speaker 17: NASCAR team still going to be you know, that feels
- 35:55Speaker 17: kind of historic.
- 35:59Speaker 4: It's does.
- 36:00Speaker 1: And he's great at it because he's great. He's the
- 36:02Speaker 1: greatest to have ever lived. Taylor made a comment a
- 36:05Speaker 1: couple of weeks ago. I laughed him off the radio.
- 36:08Speaker 1: He said, the Charlotte Hornets are going for it. Bomani Jones,
- 36:12Speaker 1: are the Charlotte Hornets going for it?
- 36:14Speaker 14: What do you mean by it? The chap? I said,
- 36:16Speaker 14: vote like you mean like.
- 36:19Speaker 17: They're going for it this year or it's a realistic possibility.
- 36:23Speaker 14: Bomani.
- 36:24Speaker 16: All I'm saying is the last thirty two games, the
- 36:26Speaker 16: highest net rating in the NBA belongs to the Charlotte Hornets.
- 36:30Speaker 5: Great, that doesn't mean they're going for it.
- 36:34Speaker 17: They perhaps would like to have it, but hey man,
- 36:38Speaker 17: let's be fair to them. They have three guys that
- 36:44Speaker 17: one could argue are very good players. Yeah, they got
- 36:49Speaker 17: LaMelo and my buddy Rod, who'd watches a Hornet season
- 36:55Speaker 17: ticket holder, and he obviously watches the Hornets more than me.
- 36:58Speaker 17: He swears to me that LaMelo was not a loser, right, like,
- 37:02Speaker 17: he is adamant that he's not.
- 37:05Speaker 5: I mean, that's what I'm saying.
- 37:06Speaker 17: He and and so it is my respect for him
- 37:09Speaker 17: that makes me say, maybe LaMelo isn't a loser, but
- 37:12Speaker 17: like I and I ain't watching them any of their games,
- 37:16Speaker 17: but he has the statistical profile of a loser like
- 37:19Speaker 17: like And that's not to say he don't have a
- 37:20Speaker 17: lot of points, but a lot of losers score a
- 37:22Speaker 17: lot of points. But they say he not a loser.
- 37:24Speaker 17: I think Brandon Miller is good. And then they got
- 37:26Speaker 17: a what's his name? Hey, Yeah, this is this is,
- 37:34Speaker 17: this is gonna be interesting with this cond nipple thing.
- 37:36Speaker 5: The whites. You got like a local white you know
- 37:39Speaker 5: what I'm saying, It's.
- 37:40Speaker 14: Best odd couple in sports. LaMelo LaMelo. Yeah yeah.
- 37:44Speaker 17: And by the way, shout out to everybody who is
- 37:48Speaker 17: relieved to find out and also the rest of you
- 37:50Speaker 17: who are a little disappointed to find out that his
- 37:52Speaker 17: middle name does not start with a K.
- 37:55Speaker 18: But that's okay because all of his siblings start with
- 37:57Speaker 18: the K, so it's in there somewhere.
- 37:59Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 37:59Speaker 17: Yeah, But I I do think like when you as
- 38:02Speaker 17: a white person like Gary Kubiak also on this list,
- 38:05Speaker 17: like when you make this decision that you're going to
- 38:08Speaker 17: do this, the fact that it never dawns on you
- 38:10Speaker 17: that maybe this isn't the best idea, you know what
- 38:14Speaker 17: I'm saying, Like not once, Like if somebody was from
- 38:18Speaker 17: LA and lived in like black people La, they would
- 38:22Speaker 17: be very careful about having back to back KK because
- 38:25Speaker 17: it might seem like, you know, you got a problem
- 38:27Speaker 17: with the crypts. They would this would be in their minds.
- 38:30Speaker 14: Yes, I just don't.
- 38:32Speaker 17: Know how this isn't in your mind or is it?
- 38:38Speaker 14: Try not to do that.
- 38:39Speaker 17: I don't want to do that, Like, for example, I
- 38:41Speaker 17: cut Steve Kerr some slack, Yeah, because for those of
- 38:46Speaker 17: you who don't know, he has a son named Nicholas
- 38:48Speaker 17: that has to go by Nicholas, because when your last
- 38:51Speaker 17: name is Kerr, it is a little difficult to go
- 38:54Speaker 17: by Nick. There needs to be a serious level of
- 38:58Speaker 17: nunciation when you say your name is nick.
- 39:01Speaker 14: It was a family name, right, I.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Don't know, I don't care, right, but you have to
- 39:07Speaker 1: say that's slowly too.
- 39:08Speaker 14: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:09Speaker 17: You sometimes like I got a buddy whose name is
- 39:12Speaker 17: Hughes and his last name starts with the S, so
- 39:15Speaker 17: he's very careful about separating the two. Sure, because because
- 39:19Speaker 17: otherwise you think his name is Hugh. Anyway, I understand you.
- 39:24Speaker 17: Steve Curry just didn't think about it. And I'm understanding,
- 39:28Speaker 17: is he rules the fact that he did not consider
- 39:31Speaker 17: him but on the board totally get it.
- 39:34Speaker 5: Yes, double k thing. It's tough, bo.
- 39:41Speaker 18: There's a K and Luke Cornett who was complaining about
- 39:43Speaker 18: Magic City Night in Atlanta, and I was laughing at
- 39:48Speaker 18: Magic City Night because there's all the details of it,
- 39:50Speaker 18: you know, the owner of Atlanta being involved in the documentary.
- 39:52Speaker 14: It's all for money. It's all not.
- 39:55Speaker 18: Just to celebrate an institution. But I just wanted to
- 39:58Speaker 18: get your thoughts on that. And then, and it's funny
- 40:01Speaker 18: how Luke Cornett calls it out and then everybody says, no, no, no,
- 40:05Speaker 18: you have to call out every injustice in all of
- 40:07Speaker 18: sports if you're going to call out this one.
- 40:08Speaker 14: And I'm just like, Okay, nobody's gonna say anything anymore.
- 40:11Speaker 5: Yeah, Like I saw a little bit of it. I
- 40:12Speaker 5: was a little.
- 40:15Speaker 17: I was intrigued by the fact that he cared enough
- 40:20Speaker 17: to share.
- 40:21Speaker 14: This right people he plays in San Antonio.
- 40:23Speaker 17: Yeah, and I'll also note I thought that what he
- 40:26Speaker 17: said was very thoughtful. I think the outrage machine just
- 40:31Speaker 17: jumps on the idea of somebody coming down on this,
- 40:33Speaker 17: and I think that there's the people feeling as though
- 40:36Speaker 17: he's ruining their fun. And then there is the next
- 40:39Speaker 17: level of extrapolation that is the most like twenty first
- 40:42Speaker 17: century of it all, which is him and not showing
- 40:45Speaker 17: adequate respect for the sex workers. I mean, it really
- 40:50Speaker 17: wasn't that long ago that we had kind of Look.
- 40:52Speaker 17: I say this as somebody, I tell you, by the
- 40:55Speaker 17: time the first, the second, the third, the fourth, and
- 40:58Speaker 17: the fifth time I went to Madge City. They all
- 41:00Speaker 17: have distinct like stories and reasons that they stick out
- 41:03Speaker 17: in my head. I am not approved when it comes
- 41:06Speaker 17: to strip clubs, but the idea that it is exploitation
- 41:10Speaker 17: is not foreign, right, Like it is not. Atlanta's a
- 41:13Speaker 17: little bit different because it's so mainstreamed into the culture.
- 41:17Speaker 17: But like when you go to strip clubs in places
- 41:20Speaker 17: that are not really Atlanta, there's a couple of others.
- 41:24Speaker 14: Man is sad.
- 41:25Speaker 17: Oh yeah, you know, like you get in there, yeah, no, no, no,
- 41:29Speaker 17: you get in there. You just kind of like, hey man,
- 41:32Speaker 17: this is like nobody's nobody wants to be here, the
- 41:35Speaker 17: patrons don't want to be here, the girls, everyone's look,
- 41:40Speaker 17: it doesn't it doesn't feel like a party, right, Atlanta's different,
- 41:44Speaker 17: it does. It's like like mad the City is like
- 41:48Speaker 17: a certain des lay situation.
- 41:49Speaker 5: All of this stuff.
- 41:51Speaker 17: However, I do not I did not think it was
- 41:56Speaker 17: appropriate to do a night at the Rena. No, Like,
- 42:01Speaker 17: the strip club is not a place for families, right,
- 42:05Speaker 17: same people complain about Pride Night. It's different, right, walk
- 42:09Speaker 17: into a strip club. Tell me the one guy you
- 42:11Speaker 17: see that brought his kids?
- 42:13Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, Like that's.
- 42:14Speaker 17: Not like a basketball game is something completely different than that.
- 42:20Speaker 17: Now Here is how I think they get around this,
- 42:23Speaker 17: which is basically everything in the announcement about Magic City
- 42:27Speaker 17: Night was like, there's gonna be a t I concert
- 42:29Speaker 17: at halftime, and they were talking about the Wings.
- 42:33Speaker 5: What about the girls.
- 42:35Speaker 19: If it's Magic City? Yeah, yeah, where are the girls?
- 42:39Speaker 19: Oh wait a minute, that's right. It's wildly inappropriate to
- 42:45Speaker 19: have the girls at a basketball game, which is why this.
- 42:50Speaker 5: Is a crazy idea, you.
- 42:53Speaker 16: Know what I mean?
- 42:53Speaker 5: Like, I'm not I'm not like wildly offended in all
- 42:57Speaker 5: of this stuff.
- 42:57Speaker 17: But no, this is not This is not what it's
- 43:00Speaker 17: supposed to be. You know where I would rather be
- 43:02Speaker 17: the Magic City Night at the at the Arena, Magic.
- 43:06Speaker 1: City, Yes, yes, that's so good the right time with
- 43:12Speaker 1: Bomani Jones. There's no way to transition out of weed
- 43:15Speaker 1: and strip clubs. Well maybe there is, I'm just not
- 43:17Speaker 1: thinking of it right now. Boston, the Celtics, Jason Tatum.
- 43:22Speaker 5: Let me tell you what there is.
- 43:23Speaker 17: Not in Boston, Boston. I mean to the Magic City
- 43:30Speaker 17: and they have Magic City Night in Boston. Oh, it
- 43:32Speaker 17: would be some protests, it would be giving not one
- 43:35Speaker 17: damn about some girls but it would be a protest.
- 43:38Speaker 14: Celtics Jason Tatum.
- 43:40Speaker 1: The people that are saying don't bring Tatum back because
- 43:44Speaker 1: the team is playing well without him, to me, is absurd.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Jason Tatum when healthy, one of the ten fifteen best
- 43:51Speaker 1: players in the world, and he only makes your team better.
- 43:53Speaker 1: What do you think about the Celtics and bringing him
- 43:55Speaker 1: back here?
- 43:56Speaker 17: I mean, I have to operate on the assumption that
- 43:59Speaker 17: everybody involve understands what they're doing here.
- 44:02Speaker 5: Right, Like, I think it's crazy.
- 44:06Speaker 17: For everything I've ever known about, like what a recovery
- 44:09Speaker 17: from an achilles.
- 44:09Speaker 5: Tear is, it seems preposterous to me.
- 44:13Speaker 17: Now, I do know that what is very unique about
- 44:15Speaker 17: the situation, and I don't know why it's unique, but
- 44:18Speaker 17: it is very unique is that they got him on
- 44:20Speaker 17: the table the day after the tear, and that apparently
- 44:23Speaker 17: is much faster Dominique Wilkins, who had a miraculous Achilles
- 44:27Speaker 17: recovery in nineteen ninety three.
- 44:30Speaker 5: I want to say it was the year.
- 44:31Speaker 17: They got him on the table the next day, as
- 44:33Speaker 17: I understand it, So, I feel like everybody has a
- 44:36Speaker 17: lot invested in this, right Tatum obviously his body, forget
- 44:40Speaker 17: about the money.
- 44:40Speaker 5: But he's got that invested in this.
- 44:42Speaker 17: The Celtics, they got a lot of money left to
- 44:44Speaker 17: pay him on that deal. The fact that everybody is
- 44:48Speaker 17: going for this implies to me that it's not unsafe.
- 44:54Speaker 5: Right. Maybe they do this with.
- 44:56Speaker 17: A like he's not gonna pay thirty five minutes.
- 44:58Speaker 5: A game or something like that. I do think though,
- 45:01Speaker 5: that if he can.
- 45:01Speaker 17: Play this year, you start to process this year and
- 45:04Speaker 17: get all those like I'm scared games out of the
- 45:07Speaker 17: way so you don't drag it into next year. But
- 45:10Speaker 17: let us also not forget the reason that they are
- 45:12Speaker 17: here and they are in this situation is that I
- 45:15Speaker 17: don't know about how the whole franchise felt, but I
- 45:17Speaker 17: know my man Joe Missoula found the idea of tanking
- 45:21Speaker 17: out the season absolutely offensive, and that was something they
- 45:25Speaker 17: were never going to do. And the whole reason that
- 45:27Speaker 17: there's even a thought of bringing Jason Tatum back is
- 45:30Speaker 17: these guys refused to be a bunch of losers and
- 45:33Speaker 17: decided that they was gonna try and guess what, they
- 45:35Speaker 17: have a chance to win the East.
- 45:37Speaker 18: They even made the Anfredy Simon's move that I thought, Hey,
- 45:40Speaker 18: that's a nice piece for them.
- 45:41Speaker 14: They moved off front of him during the trade deadline.
- 45:43Speaker 18: And still are like again making moves that seem like
- 45:47Speaker 18: they're going one way but are going the other direction.
- 45:49Speaker 14: And it's just been crazy impressive.
- 45:51Speaker 18: But here's my thought when it comes to Jason tatum
- 45:54Speaker 18: bo is he's not a guy that you can slide
- 45:58Speaker 18: in with other players and say, hey, fit in. Obviously
- 46:01Speaker 18: that's what happened in the Olympics. He's super talented, but
- 46:04Speaker 18: he needs the ball. He needs all that, and so
- 46:06Speaker 18: can he And I think this is where his thinking is.
- 46:09Speaker 18: Can he go ahead and just sort of plug and
- 46:12Speaker 18: play without demanding the ball, without you know, the usage
- 46:15Speaker 18: rate going through the roof and then you see the
- 46:17Speaker 18: rustiness and you see the lack of chemistry. There is
- 46:20Speaker 18: it a style of plaything that maybe even he is recognizing, hey,
- 46:24Speaker 18: maybe I will mess up this chemistry more than people think.
- 46:27Speaker 17: Yeah, I think there is a great question that you
- 46:29Speaker 17: asked there. I also think, and I G if you
- 46:33Speaker 17: got the angel Devil showed the situation that the angel
- 46:36Speaker 17: is like, well, you know what if I come in
- 46:38Speaker 17: and you know, I mess up the system and the chemistry,
- 46:43Speaker 17: and then the other angel is.
- 46:44Speaker 5: Like, what if they are just fine without me. That
- 46:50Speaker 5: was his problem.
- 46:51Speaker 17: But I will ask you this, what if the move
- 46:55Speaker 17: is to basically turn him into something that we really
- 46:57Speaker 17: don't see in the NBA anymore. We still we'll have
- 47:00Speaker 17: very good bench players who are still six men, but
