Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:10defending biblical Christianity.
- 0:13No topic off limits.
- 0:16And now, here's your host, David Firazzo.
- 0:19Hey friends, thanks for tuning in and for sharing the podcast I've got a special
- 0:24treat for you.
- 0:25Something's coming out next week that I'm really excited to talk about and tell you about
- 0:30and it looks like a lot of fun too.
- 0:32I've got our guest, Eric Hoven with CreationToday.org creation today and we're going to talk about
- 0:39a new project.
- 0:40We'll talk about their ministry and what they're working on there.
- 0:43He gets to talk to astronauts.
- 0:44That's just awesome.
- 0:46Eric, brother, it's so great to finally catch up with you.
- 0:50Thanks for spending time with us on World View Matters, brother.
- 0:53David, thanks for having me.
- 0:54What a pleasure to be with you guys.
- 0:56I know you guys cover all the bases.
- 0:58So thank you for doing what you guys do.
- 1:01Yeah, thanks, Eric.
- 1:02No topic off limits and we jump around and talk about anything from apologetics to politics
- 1:07to and everything in between.
- 1:09But let's talk a little bit about for some of our listeners maybe are not familiar with CreationToday.
- 1:16You've been in ministry and working at this for a long time.
- 1:18You've been a part of some great movie projects and just share a little bit about your background
- 1:24and how CreationToday came to be before we get going.
- 1:28David, I still feel like a kid.
- 1:29I don't even know if my whole ministry has actually started yet, but I've grown up in
- 1:33the world of apologetics.
- 1:34So my dad was an evangelist.
- 1:36We travel and speak on creation versus evolution all over the world.
- 1:40So I got exposed to a whole lot of apologetics at a very young age.
- 1:44But I was also part of my church environment.
- 1:48I became a product of the church environment rather than a real disciple of Jesus Christ.
- 1:53So while I had a whole lot of answers growing up and I knew a lot about God, I never really
- 1:57knew God.
- 1:58It wasn't thought it was in my 20s that I watched Hell's Best kept secret, truly repented
- 2:03and trusted in Christ.
- 2:04And I got to tell you, he really did change my life.
- 2:07There was a old things are passed away, all things become new.
- 2:11You wouldn't have been able to tell it from the outside, but God did a work on the inside.
- 2:14And I knew that that was the work of the Holy Spirit.
- 2:17And I'm so thankful for that.
- 2:18Since then, I've been in ministry, started creation today in 2006.
- 2:22And it's been the last 25 years of my life altogether, traveling and speaking on apologetic
- 2:27subjects around the world and love what I do.
- 2:31It's a real blessing to be able to get out there and talk about creation versus evolution.
- 2:35It's some of the biggest hot button topics we have today of what about abortion?
- 2:40How could a loving God allow suffering?
- 2:43What about climate change and global warming and how do we handle all these issues and realizing
- 2:48it all stems from was the universe created or was the universe evolved by chance?
- 2:55That is where the distinction for all these issues that we're facing comes down to.
- 2:59So that's why we focus on the book of Genesis, trying to teach people.
- 3:03It really is a matter of biblical authority.
- 3:07That's what we need to deal with.
- 3:09Who says so?
- 3:11Somebody or God?
- 3:12Let's go with God.
- 3:13I love that authority and Ray Comfort.
- 3:16I think of him saying, well, if everything's been designed, there had to be a designer.
- 3:21You know, he does, yeah, you don't look at a building and say there wasn't a building.
- 3:25You don't look at a painting and say there wasn't a painting.
- 3:27Exactly.
- 3:28He just, well, he's got some good stuff just and it seems like it rolls off the top
- 3:31of his head.
- 3:32He's an evangelist ninja is what the Babylonian people called him.
- 3:36He's so good.
- 3:37He's what he does.
- 3:38Well, he's been at it for years and years.
- 3:41Hell's best kept secret.
- 3:43I heard a DVD of a sermon that it may have been that one that he gave at a church.
- 3:49I don't know how long ago, but just phenomenal stuff.
- 3:53So it's no wonder you heard that and went, well, and let's talk about this briefly.
- 3:57There's a lot of people in churches that aren't even saved and they're doing
- 4:01stuff.
- 4:02They're doing the works and maybe they're trying to be good people, but they're not
- 4:05really truly converted and it sounds like you were growing up, you had all the knowledge
- 4:10and you even had some apologetics, you know, and you really didn't, it didn't get to
- 4:15your heart.
- 4:16Talk a little bit more about that, Eric.
- 4:17One of the scariest verses in the Bible for me, David, is Matthew 7, verse 21, many are
- 4:22going to come in my name and say, did I not do all these things, say, do all these things?
- 4:26Castile demons, all this stuff.
- 4:28He's going to say, depart from me, you that work in equity.
- 4:30We are dealing with a whole lot of hypocrisy in the church.
- 4:34And I think a lot of that comes from false converts, the wheat among the tears.
- 4:37The Bible says, this is going to happen.
- 4:39And then when his disciples asked him, hey, do we go take out all the tears?
- 4:43You know, do we take out all these, he said, no, you don't want to do that in case you
- 4:47pull up wheat as well.
- 4:48So leave it all.
- 4:50There will be a day when all is exposed and the wheat and the tears will be separated.
- 4:54So to anybody who's listening, who thinks there's hypocrisy in the church, you guys
- 4:58are just filled with hypocrites.
- 5:00There are a lot of hypocrites in the church.
- 5:03But that doesn't mean the real thing doesn't exist.
- 5:05Tears are among the wheat right now, but it doesn't mean there's not real wheat.
- 5:09You wouldn't take a counterfeit $100 bill and say, see, this is a counterfeit $100.
- 5:13That means there's no proof that there are no $100 bills.
- 5:17You wouldn't say that.
- 5:19You can't have the counterfeit unless you have the real thing.
- 5:23So yeah, there's a lot of hypocrisy and counterfeits in the church, but we need to be on
- 5:27guard and understand that we know the truth.
- 5:29We need to know that God has done a work in our life, work out your salvation with fear
- 5:33and trembling as exactly what the Bible says.
- 5:35And I encourage every single one of you to do that.
- 5:38Amen.
- 5:39And don't depend on your pastor who may or may not be teaching the whole council of God.
- 5:44There's another issue, but we don't have time for that.
- 5:47Eric, tell us about the weekly creation today's show.
- 5:49You've got on-demand access.
- 5:51Tell us about that.
- 5:53I am loving it.
- 5:54I have every week a show and I have a new expert on to talk about all kinds of fascinating
- 6:00topics.
- 6:01The reason I love it is it's my own personal discipleship program.
- 6:04Every week I get guys come on and we spend an hour together and I feel like they're
- 6:08discipling me and I'm just telling all my partners say, like, hey, come on, you guys, listen
- 6:13in.
- 6:14You guys, you're going to love what's being said.
- 6:16So it's just just getting them inviting them to come on and hang out with me and I really
- 6:22do enjoy the opportunities I have to interview people from astronauts like I had this last
- 6:28week to scientists to the doctor, Lyle is the leading doctor out there fighting against
- 6:37the abortion movement and doing it from a doctoral and a scientific and a biblical
- 6:43perspective.
- 6:44He's incredible.
- 6:45He joins us regularly.
- 6:46So yeah, it's kind of exciting to help disciple the church.
- 6:49I'm just we're coming alongside the church, trying to help people be disciples.
- 6:53And to the skeptics, we're trying to take the stumbling blocks that they see as evidence
- 6:58for why they shouldn't trust the Bible and turn those into stepping stones on their
- 7:01journey to Christ.
- 7:03So we want them to understand not only the who, what, why, when, but the whatabouts, what
- 7:09about this and what about this and we want them to understand all the answers to those
- 7:14questions.
- 7:15So we dig in deep on topics every week and have a blast doing it.
- 7:17Yeah, I looked at some of the past things you covered and I'm going back to mid June
- 7:22and one of the things I wanted to ask you about, because we hear these words thrown around,
- 7:27the question that you guys talked about, does medical freedom include abortion?
- 7:33I mean, you heard a, you know, abortion framed as reproductive freedom or rights or choice
- 7:41and all these things and you can, if you go back to the 10 commandments, if you can redefine
- 7:46murder all you want to and use different words to describe it, but it's still taking
- 7:50the life of an innocent, pre-born human being created in the image of God, a mago day.
- 7:58And yet our common society says, yeah, well, in that case, sure, or medical freedom for
- 8:03whatever reason, what else did you talk about in that show because that, that was a huge
- 8:07thing since COVID, medical freedom, right, talk a little bit more about that and we just
- 8:12want you to touch down there. I find that to be fascinating.
- 8:15Well, the big deal, does medical freedom include abortion? You can go through all the logical
- 8:20arguments and you see that there's no logical, rational argument that works for the, I'll
- 8:28call it the pro-death side if they, I am pro-life, they are pro-death, okay? So if we're going
- 8:35to keep our terminology the same, I'm somebody who believes in the sanctity of life from God,
- 8:39it's a gift from God, it's not mine to choose whether or not I take it or not. That's
- 8:44why it's, is do not kill and that's different than really that's murder. Do not murder is
- 8:50what the Bible's saying there. It makes provisions for wars and things like that or if somebody
- 8:55murders, you have the government has the right to sentence them to death for certain punishments.
- 9:00But does medical freedom include the unborn? There's no logical answer, there's no scientifically,
- 9:06no, there's no reason you should be ending that life inside the mother's womb.
- 9:11The big picture though is that this isn't just a battle of logic, this is a spiritual and
- 9:18a moral battle. That's what we're really facing here. Abortion is, the Bible says, all
- 9:26they that hate me, Jesus says, all they that hate me love death and no wonder when you
- 9:34back up and zoom out, why are they taking such a big stand on? We want to be able to kill
- 9:40children. Why? Because this is a spiritual battle. Why do you think last year in the first
- 9:49abortion clinic was opened by a satanic temple in order to do an abortion as a sacrifice
- 9:55to Satan? This is not just a matter of logic because every argument, well, it's not viable.
- 10:04Well, you're not viable either if you're starting to make it on the North Pole for crying
- 10:07out loud. Children, two years old aren't viable on their own. Five years old. I know some
- 10:13kids that are 25 years old that aren't viable yet. They can't make it on their own, okay?
- 10:18Survivability doesn't give us a reason to kill someone. They try to say, well, it's my body,
- 10:24my choice. That's not your body. Have the time. It's the opposite gender. It's got its own DNA
- 10:30from the moment of conception. Every single argument you try to give in favor of killing
- 10:36an unborn child logically fails every single time and it makes you wonder because you know
- 10:42and the Bible says this, they know God exists, makes you wonder if they know every argument fails,
- 10:47why do they keep pushing for it? And they're pushing for it hard. Here's how hard they're
- 10:51pushing for it. Are you familiar with the Babylon be David? Absolutely. Love them. Love them.
- 10:57Babylon be just did a headline for the Democratic National Convention, the DNC. It's not that.
- 11:04One of the, you saw this. Their title was DNC dies the Chicago River Red and what was the end of it
- 11:14in honor of abortion or something like that in honor of killing babies. And that headline,
- 11:20it was satire. They're a bunch. They're just satire. It's funny things, but it's designed to
- 11:25make you think and make one of a real problem that we're facing. That satirical headline got
- 11:32fact checked because people believed it. Now you have to back up and ask yourself, why would people
- 11:41believe that that's true? Because they really are that aggressive about killing unborn children.
- 11:53So yeah, what a great, what a great, you need to go watch that show because it just,
- 11:59you get into all the, all the medical aspects, all the logical aspects and then you hit the
- 12:03spiritual aspect and you realize, you realize the Bible is right. We do not wrestle against
- 12:08flesh and blood. We wrestle against principalities and powers and rulers of darkness and high places,
- 12:13spiritual wickedness and high places. So our, our battle is a spiritual battle and we have a
- 12:20spiritual enemy and you are either for God or you are against God. Hey, listener, there is
- 12:27no fence to sit on. If you want to say there's a fence, then find that belongs to Satan. So you
- 12:34just need to decide whose side are you on? Jesus said, either for me or against me. I know, I know
- 12:41a lot of people, including people in church. They are not really for God. They want God to be for
- 12:47them. They've allowed humanism to creep in and they're focused a whole lot of them on themselves
- 12:52and all the church stuff is about them. You're going to get me preaching here, David.
- 12:55Preach it. Go. This is what I'm passionate about, man. And you talked about the hypocrites
- 13:01in the church and the people in the church. That is the problem that we see today is most people
- 13:06have adopted humanism and humanism is crept its way into the church. You can define humanism
- 13:10this way. Humanism is defined as the end of all being is the happiness of man. The reason I
- 13:16exist is not for God's happiness, but for my happiness, for my pleasure. And humanism,
- 13:23a humanistic gospel would be, oh, God did all this. He came. He created. He lived. He died. He
- 13:30rose again. He does all this for me. It's for me. That is humanism. If your prayer is
- 13:39sound a whole lot like this, dear gracious Heavenly Father, please give me. Give me. Give me. Give me.
- 13:46Give me. Give me. Give me. Give me. Give me. Give me. Give me. Give me. Give me. Give me. Give me. Give me.
- 13:49You, my friend, are a humanist. There's nothing wrong with asking God for things. I mean,
- 13:54he's described as a father, but we have gone way too far on the side of humanism inside of
- 13:59Christianity. And now we're more focused on what God can do for me than what life is really all
- 14:04about. And that's about glorifying God. The reason you listen to worldview matters. The reason
- 14:09you you study the word is so you can find out how do I love God and love people? How do I glorify
- 14:15God with my life? You've only got three things to glorify him with all three, all three of these
- 14:20categories. You're going to be judged for one day. You got time. You got talent. You got treasure.
- 14:25How are you spending your time? How are you using your talent? How are you spending your treasure?
- 14:30You're going to get judged by God for how you spend. It's a spend thing. You're a manager of it.
- 14:35It's not yours. He's gifted it to you for a little while. You're going to spend those and you're
- 14:40going to face God on judgment day to tell him how you did. So I would consider being wise about
- 14:44that. If I were you, sorry, I got preaching there. No, no, never apologize, brother. That was
- 14:49awesome. I was shouting amen only quietly. So I didn't want to interrupt you. But when we come
- 14:55back on a touch on the environmental movement, how they put nature over God, nature over human
- 15:01beings, and that it continues to fuel this population control, the death agenda. But also friends,
- 15:08when we come back with Eric Hoven on World View Matters, we're going to talk about something coming
- 15:12out a film September 6, which is next week called Night at the Discovery Center. And we're talking
- 15:19to one of the star actors right now. We'll be right back on World View Matters.
- 15:49Org and you can go to the website contact us there worldviewmatters.tv. So Eric Hoven creation
- 15:56today.org brand new project coming up. But I want to get to that in just a minute. I want to hear
- 16:00your thoughts on this radical environmental movement, the population control movement that puts
- 16:07nature. We've got to save and preserve the world, save the earth. But we've got to eliminate more
- 16:13people because we've got to get the population down. You said this is a spiritual battle. And if
- 16:18that's not a one area where we can see this battle manifested in the natural, I don't know,
- 16:25I think some people are just blinded to it. But yeah, they think it sounds good. Save the earth.
- 16:29What are your thoughts on that? And it's all about Satan comes to kill, steal and destroy, right?
- 16:36Do you happen to know about how many people are on planet earth right now?
- 16:39David, do you know that number? No. It's a little over 8 billion people on planet earth.
- 16:45Do you happen to know how long it would take? You can use basic mathematics, a population growth
- 16:50curve. How long would it take to get about 8 billion people on a planet starting with just a couple,
- 16:56let's say two people? 6,000 years? Actually, a little less than that, about 4,400 years. Okay,
- 17:03which it's perfectly with what the Bible says. That's right. No one. We had the flood. Yes,
- 17:08we had the flood 4,400 years ago. So it's fascinating. You look at the human population. It goes back
- 17:13about 4,400 years. The idea of we need to save the planet and we prioritize it over humanity
- 17:22really is silly because when you study this out, our planet has the resources to hold well
- 17:31over a hundred billion people. Many people would say several hundred billion people. Eight billion
- 17:38is not overcrowded, okay? I was just in Iowa last week. The world isn't overcrowded, all right?
- 17:46I have flown across this country many times. The world is not overcrowded. I'm telling you man,
- 17:53it is not Elon Musk even knows this. He's like, no, we're actually going into population decline. We
- 17:59need to have more people because we're actually facing some hard times ahead if we don't start
- 18:04getting people to get married, have children and raise them righteously. So it's all you single
- 18:10folks out there. Do your job. Go find that mate that God has for you and have a beautiful family.
- 18:17My family, David, is one of the most precious things to me. We're going to do a birthday dinner for
- 18:22my daughter and her son, excuse me, my daughter and my son-in-law, her husband coming up here this
- 18:27weekend and there is nothing like getting together with family and spending time together.
- 18:32But the natural worldview that says that Mother Earth is all there is and humans are a disease on
- 18:38this planet. Hold it. Hold it. Hold it. If evolution is true, there is no agenda. There's no going
- 18:44anywhere. There's no such thing as health. There's not a healthy planet. There's not an unhealthy planet.
- 18:49You can't even say that human flourishing is good on a strictly naturalistic worldview.
- 18:55Matter of fact, a naturalistic worldview would say, let us take over. If we destroy it, we destroy it,
- 19:00it'll evolve into something else. Nature is just taking its course. So on the evolution
- 19:05worldview, an environmentalist doesn't make sense. Now, on the Christian worldview, an environmentalist
- 19:13makes sense because God tells us to subdue the earth and to take care of it, to tend it, so watch
- 19:19over it. We should be the best environmentalist. There are out there trying to say, how do we wisely
- 19:27steward planet earth? Now, I don't take that over human people. Human beings. People are the most
- 19:36important thing. We are the ones created in the image of God. So, yeah, there is plenty out there
- 19:42that is derailing us and going the wrong direction and it's illogical from a naturalistic perspective.
- 19:49It doesn't even make sense. I know you've talked about that for years on many shows and many
- 19:54presentations, but I know we just scratched the surface here, but I think the left does such a good
- 19:59job of marketing their talking points and calling something like a good cause social justice. It's
- 20:06good. Yeah, we need to take care of the planet, whatever, but I want to jump to night at the
- 20:10discovery center before we run out of time. Eric, this looks phenomenal. It's coming up next week,
- 20:15September 6th, night at the discovery center. You can get information on this friends at creation
- 20:20today.org. You start in this. It looks like a lot of fun. Tell us about it, Eric.
- 20:27So, I did two experimental films. One of the creation museum. You just saw that. One of the
- 20:33Ark Encounter got my cards right here. Yeah. So, not at the creation museum, not at the Ark Encounter.
- 20:39And that's, yeah, that's, that was a blast. And coming out next month or next week, I did night
- 20:44at the discovery center. So, we went to the ICR Discovery Center in Dallas, Texas and we got to
- 20:49spend several days filming with them. Wow. A little, a fun movie that is entertaining and educational.
- 20:57And it will bring up conversations with you and your friends about God and his word in a powerful
- 21:03way. So, the first two were experimental. I did those two. Believe it or not, David, I filmed
- 21:08these on my cell phone the night at the creation museum and the night at the Ark Encounter. Film them
- 21:13on my cell phone and they turned out, I, I think, really well for that. And then I went to the
- 21:18president of ICR, Dr. Randy Glews. I said, Hey, could I borrow your discovery center for a week?
- 21:23Can I kind of rule in rain? I mean, yes, I know. It's a multi-million dollar facility there in
- 21:28Dallas, Texas. And by the way, if you've never been to the discovery center, you need to go check
- 21:32it out. It's a great place. Great trip to Dallas, okay? And he said, yeah, you can, you can, you can
- 21:38run the place for a, for a week. So went there this time. We had a real film crew and man, my co-star
- 21:45on this one was Dr. Brian Thomas. He did an amazing job acting in this. And we're going on in
- 21:52adventure because something suspicious is going on at the discovery center. Let me just tell you,
- 21:59it ends up being quite the ride. So, you're, you're going to want to check it out.
- 22:04CreationToday.org slash discovery center. CreationToday.org slash discovery center if you want to
- 22:10check that out. But I'm doing these films because I'm finding storytelling is a great way to
- 22:16communicate. Jesus communicated through stories all the time. Culture Today responds to stories.
- 22:21So I'm finding one of the best things I can do is communicate through stories. How can I put in a
- 22:27good way a story that combines the truth of scripture is, is entertaining and has scientific facts
- 22:34so that in the kids minds as they grow up, they're learning, oh wow, God's word is true. I can trust
- 22:41it. And that's the big picture reason why we're doing this film. The, the, trying to figure out
- 22:46how much I can give away on the storyline on this one on this one. So just if you haven't seen
- 22:52one of these all the night at the series, night at the creation museum, night at the art
- 22:56encounter, night at the discovery center, the whole series, something happens. I play a, I play
- 23:01a security guard, Derek daily. So, and this is a spoof off of night at the museum. So, I'm
- 23:06Derek daily and my job is to guard the museum. Well, something happens at every single museum
- 23:13and things go bonkers, things go crazy. So, I can't give it all away, but we go on quite the
- 23:21ride. I get to, on this one, I'll tell you this, I'm transported via a VR headset. It's called
- 23:29Experimental Reality and it actually transports people, this VR system. So, it transports me from
- 23:35Dallas, Texas, out to Mount St. Helens and I'm there at Mount St. Helens and all of the sudden
- 23:41we're experiencing another eruption of Mount St. Helens and it is, it's, it's a death blow,
- 23:48man. It's a, it's a sad, sad day. So, oh, and if you have kids, this one does have dinosaurs in
- 23:54it. Five-year-old Sophie, I've screened the movie to a lot of kids to make sure it's okay. Five-year-old
- 23:59Sophie said the dinosaur, the T-Rex at the end, he's scary. So, just viewer, there is dying, there
