  it's
• 4:12
  funny,
• 4:13
  I
• 4:13
  told
• 4:13
  it's
• 4:13
  a
• 4:13
  story
• 4:14
  to
• 4:14
  people
• 4:14
  that
• 4:15
  we
• 4:15
  all
• 4:15
  started
• 4:15
  together
• 4:16
  and
• 4:16
  the
• 4:17
  three
• 4:17
  of
• 4:17
  us
• 4:18
  were
• 4:18
  on
• 4:18
  this
• 4:18
  team
• 4:19
  so
• 4:19
  bad
• 4:19
  that
• 4:20
  we
• 4:20
  got
• 4:20
  the
• 4:20
  manager
• 4:21
  fired
• 4:23
  and
• 4:24
  Pete
• 4:24
  ended
• 4:24
  up
• 4:24
  spending
• 4:25
  two
• 4:25
  years
• 4:25
  in
• 4:25
  Triple
• 4:26
  A.
• 4:26
  The
• 4:26
  next
• 4:26
  year
• 4:26
  he
• 4:27
  went
• 4:27
  down
• 4:27
  to
• 4:27
  Tampa,
• 4:28
  Florida
• 4:28
  and
• 4:29
  then
• 4:29
  Tony
• 4:29
  spent
• 4:30
  another
• 4:30
  year
• 4:30
  up
• 4:30
  in
• 4:30
  Geneva.
• 4:31
  They
• 4:31
  moved
• 4:31
  me
• 4:31
  to
• 4:32
  Topeka,
• 4:33
  Kansas,
• 4:33
  Class
• 4:34
  B.
• 4:34
  So
• 4:34
  I
• 4:34
  thought,
• 4:35
  I
• 4:35
  think
• 4:35
  for
• 4:35
  that
• 4:36
  one
• 4:36
  brief
• 4:37
  period
• 4:37
  of
• 4:37
  time
• 4:37
  I
• 4:37
  was
• 4:37
  a
• 4:38
  better
• 4:38
  prospect
• 4:38
  than
• 4:39
  those
• 4:39
  two,
• 4:39
  but
• 4:39
  ended
• 4:40
  up
• 4:40
  Tony's
• 4:40
  in
• 4:40
  the
• 4:41
  hall
• 4:41
  of
• 4:41
  Fame
• 4:41
  and
• 4:41
  Pete
• 4:41
  of
• 4:42
  course,
• 4:42
  had
• 4:42
  the
• 4:42
  great
• 4:42
  career,
• 4:43
  more
• 4:43
  hits
• 4:43
  than
• 4:43
  anybody
• 4:44
  in
• 4:44
  the
• 4:44
  history
• 4:45
  of
• 4:45
  the
• 4:45
  game
• 4:45
  and
• 4:46
  unfortunately
• 4:47
  we
• 4:47
  lost
• 4:47
  him
• 4:47
  last
• 4:48
  year.
• 4:48
  But
• 4:48
  it
• 4:48
  was
• 4:49
  a
• 4:49
  great
• 4:49
  experience
• 4:49
  for
• 4:50
  me.
• 4:51
  Cincinnati
• 4:51
  Red
• 4:52
  organization
• 4:52
  developed
• 4:53
  a
• 4:53
  lot
• 4:54
  of
• 4:54
  really
• 4:54
  good
• 4:54
  young
• 4:55
  players
• 4:55
  and
• 4:56
  I
• 4:56
  feel
• 4:56
  like
• 4:57
  the
• 4:57
  years
• 4:57
  I
• 4:57
  was
• 4:58
  there
• 4:58
  really
• 4:58
  kind
• 4:58
  of
• 4:58
  groomed
• 4:59
  me
• 4:59
  into
• 5:00
  the
• 5:00
  big
• 5:00
  leagues
• 5:01
  and
• 5:01
  you
• 5:01
  know,
• 5:01
  I
• 5:02
  guess
• 5:02
  you
• 5:02
  could
• 5:02
  call
• 5:03
  it,
• 5:03
  it
• 5:03
  was
• 5:03
  pretty
• 5:04
  big
• 5:04
  red
• 5:05
  machine.
• 5:05
  But
• 5:06
  you
• 5:06
  know,
• 5:06
  even
• 5:06
  when
• 5:06
  I
• 5:06
  got
• 5:07
  traded
• 5:07
  to
• 5:07
  the
• 5:07
  Mets,
• 5:07
  which
• 5:08
  is
• 5:08
  one
• 5:08
  of
• 5:08
  the
• 5:08
  stories
• 5:08
  in
• 5:09
  the
• 5:09
  new
• 5:09
  book
• 5:10
  Mets
• 5:11
  Stories,
• 5:11
  I
• 5:11
  only
• 5:11
  tell
• 5:12
  my
• 5:12
  friends
• 5:12
  about
• 5:13
  how
• 5:13
  that
• 5:13
  trade
• 5:13
  came
• 5:14
  about
• 5:14
  and
• 5:14
  my
• 5:14
  reaction
• 5:15
  about
• 5:16
  finding
• 5:16
  out
• 5:16
  I
• 5:16
  was
• 5:16
  traded
• 5:17
  to
• 5:17
  the
• 5:17
  Mets
• 5:17
  and.
• 5:18
  And
• 5:18
  it
• 5:18
  turned
• 5:18
  out
• 5:19
  once
• 5:20
  I
• 5:20
  got
• 5:20
  to
• 5:20
  the
• 5:20
  Mets,
• 5:21
  my
• 5:21
  life
• 5:22
  changed.
• 5:22
  And
• 5:23
  October
• 5:23
  16,
• 5:24
  1969
• 5:25
  changed
• 5:26
  my
• 5:26
  life
• 5:26
  forever.
• 5:27
  And
• 5:27
  being
• 5:27
  on
• 5:27
  that
• 5:28
  championship
• 5:28
  team
• 5:28
  was
• 5:29
  the
• 5:29
  best
• 5:29
  thing
• 5:29
  that
• 5:29
  could
• 5:29
  have
• 5:30
  happened
• 5:30
  in
• 5:30
  my
• 5:30
  career.
• 5:31
  It
• 5:31
  sort
• 5:32
  of
• 5:32
  parallels
• 5:33
  Art
• 5:34
  Keith
• 5:34
  Hernandez's
• 5:35
  feeling
• 5:35
  about
• 5:36
  getting
• 5:36
  traded
• 5:37
  to
• 5:37
  the
• 5:37
  Mets.
• 5:37
  A
• 5:38
  little
• 5:38
  apprehensive
• 5:39
  at
• 5:39
  first,
• 5:39
  but
• 5:40
  you
• 5:40
  couldn't
• 5:40
  have
• 5:40
  done
• 5:40
  any
• 5:41
  better
• 5:41
  than
• 5:41
  coming
• 5:42
  aboard
• 5:42
  over
• 5:42
  here.
• 5:43
  That's
• 5:44
  definitely
• 5:44
  true.
• 5:45
  I'd
• 5:45
  like
• 5:45
  to
• 5:45
  ask
• 5:46
  you,
• 5:46
  Art,
• 5:47
  how
• 5:47
  do
• 5:47
  you
• 5:47
  feel
• 5:48
  about
• 5:48
  the
• 5:48
  commissioner's
• 5:49
  office
• 5:50
  hinting
• 5:50
  around
• 5:51
  that
• 5:52
  they
• 5:52
  may
• 5:53
  take
• 5:53
  Pete's
• 5:53
  name
• 5:54
  off
• 5:54
  the
• 5:54
  ineligible
• 5:55
  list
• 5:55
  and
• 5:56
  considering
• 5:56
  him
• 5:57
  for
• 5:57
  the
• 5:57
  hall
• 5:57
  of
• 5:57
  Fame?
• 5:58
  He's
• 5:58
  gone
• 5:59
  now.
• 5:59
  What's,
• 6:00
  what's
• 6:00
  going
• 6:00
  on?
• 6:01
  What
• 6:01
  do
• 6:01
  you
• 6:01
  think
• 6:01
  there?
• 6:02
  Well,
• 6:03
  you
• 6:03
  know,
• 6:04
  I'm
• 6:04
  not
• 6:04
  sure
• 6:04
  they're
• 6:04
  going
• 6:04
  to
• 6:04
  do
• 6:05
  that.
• 6:05
  I
• 6:05
  mean,
• 6:05
  it
• 6:05
  seems
• 6:06
  kind
• 6:06
  of
• 6:06
  anti
• 6:07
  climatic
• 6:07
  that
• 6:08
  they're
• 6:08
  going
• 6:08
  to
• 6:08
  do
• 6:08
  it
• 6:08
  now
• 6:08
  that
• 6:09
  he's
• 6:09
  passed
• 6:09
  away.
• 6:10
  Yeah,
• 6:10
  this
• 6:11
  whole
• 6:11
  thing
• 6:11
  is
• 6:11
  kind
• 6:12
  of
• 6:12
  messed
• 6:12
  up.
• 6:13
  You
• 6:13
  know
• 6:13
  what's
• 6:13
  interesting,
• 6:14
  Bill?
• 6:14
  Over
• 6:14
  the
• 6:14
  years,
• 6:15
  say
• 6:16
  15,
• 6:16
  20
• 6:17
  years
• 6:17
  ago,
• 6:18
  most
• 6:18
  people
• 6:19
  didn't
• 6:19
  want
• 6:19
  Pete
• 6:19
  to
• 6:20
  be
• 6:20
  in
• 6:20
  for
• 6:20
  whatever
• 6:21
  reason.
• 6:21
  That
• 6:21
  that
• 6:22
  has
• 6:22
  changed
• 6:22
  over
• 6:22
  the
• 6:23
  years.
• 6:23
  More
• 6:23
  people
• 6:23
  want
• 6:24
  him
• 6:24
  in
• 6:24
  than
• 6:25
  ever
• 6:25
  now.
• 6:25
  But
• 6:26
  what's
• 6:26
  interesting,
• 6:27
  all
• 6:27
  those
• 6:27
  years
• 6:27
  that
• 6:28
  people
• 6:28
  didn't
• 6:28
  want
• 6:28
  him
• 6:28
  in
• 6:29
  and
• 6:29
  the
• 6:29
  people
• 6:29
  who
• 6:29
  still
• 6:30
  don't
• 6:30
  want
• 6:30
  him
• 6:30
  in,
• 6:31
  which
• 6:32
  is
• 6:32
  a
• 6:32
  very
• 6:32
  small
• 6:32
  percentage
• 6:33
  now,
• 6:33
  all
• 6:34
  wish
• 6:34
  that
• 6:34
  everybody
• 6:35
  played
• 6:35
  the
• 6:35
  game
• 6:35
  like
• 6:35
  he
• 6:36
  did.
• 6:36
  That's
• 6:36
  the
• 6:37
  sad
• 6:37
  part
• 6:37
  of
• 6:37
  it.
• 6:37
  But
• 6:38
  if
• 6:38
  you
• 6:38
  look
• 6:38
  at
• 6:38
  his
• 6:38
  records,
• 6:39
  the
• 6:40
  National
• 6:40
  League
• 6:40
  records,
• 6:41
  all
• 6:41
  star
• 6:41
  in
• 6:41
  what,
• 6:42
  five
• 6:42
  positions?
• 6:43
  I
• 6:43
  mean,
• 6:44
  switch
• 6:44
  hitting
• 6:44
  records,
• 6:45
  so
• 6:46
  many
• 6:46
  of
• 6:46
  them,
• 6:47
  it
• 6:47
  just
• 6:47
  seem
• 6:48
  like,
• 6:48
  you
• 6:48
  know,
• 6:49
  you
• 6:49
  know,
• 6:50
  it
• 6:50
  seems
• 6:50
  like
• 6:50
  he
• 6:50
  should
• 6:51
  be
• 6:51
  in
• 6:51
  the
• 6:51
  hall
• 6:51
  of
• 6:51
  Fame
• 6:52
  based
• 6:52
  on
• 6:52
  what
• 6:52
  he
• 6:53
  did
• 6:53
  as
• 6:53
  a
• 6:53
  player.
• 6:53
  And
• 6:54
  we
• 6:55
  started
• 6:55
  out
• 6:55
  together
• 6:56
  and
• 6:56
  I
• 6:56
  tell
• 6:57
  you
• 6:57
  the
• 6:57
  truth,
• 6:57
  if
• 6:57
  you
• 6:57
  would
• 6:57
  have
• 6:57
  seen
• 6:58
  him
• 6:58
  in
• 6:59
  1960,
• 6:59
  what
• 6:59
  you
• 7:00
  talked
• 7:00
  about
• 7:00
  earlier,
• 7:01
  you
• 7:01
  would
• 7:01
  have
• 7:01
  said
• 7:01
  there's
• 7:01
  no
• 7:02
  way
• 7:02
  he's
• 7:02
  ever
• 7:02
  going
• 7:02
  to
• 7:02
  make
• 7:03
  it
• 7:03
  to
• 7:03
  the
• 7:03
  big
• 7:03
  leagues.
• 7:04
  Worked
• 7:04
  on
• 7:05
  his
• 7:05
  game.
• 7:05
  The
• 7:06
  only
• 7:06
  thing
• 7:06
  he
• 7:06
  really
• 7:06
  could
• 7:07
  do
• 7:07
  back
• 7:07
  then
• 7:07
  was
• 7:08
  run
• 7:08
  hard
• 7:08
  to
• 7:08
  first
• 7:08
  base
• 7:09
  after
• 7:10
  a
• 7:10
  walk.
• 7:10
  He
• 7:10
  wasn't
• 7:11
  really
• 7:11
  a
• 7:12
  good
• 7:12
  player.
• 7:12
  And
• 7:12
  all
• 7:12
  of
• 7:12
  a
• 7:12
  sudden
• 7:13
  we
• 7:13
  ended
• 7:14
  up
• 7:14
  together
• 7:14
  in
• 7:14
  1962
• 7:15
  in
• 7:15
  Macon,
• 7:16
  Georgia,
• 7:16
  in
• 7:16
  the
• 7:17
  Sally
• 7:17
  League,
• 7:17
  and
• 7:18
  he
• 7:18
  had
• 7:18
  become
• 7:18
  a
• 7:19
  different
• 7:19
  player.
• 7:19
  And
• 7:20
  the
• 7:20
  next
• 7:20
  year,
• 7:21
  of
• 7:21
  course,
• 7:21
  he
• 7:21
  went
• 7:21
  to
• 7:21
  spring
• 7:22
  training
• 7:22
  in
• 7:23
  1963
• 7:24
  with
• 7:24
  the
• 7:24
  Reds,
• 7:25
  beat
• 7:25
  out
• 7:25
  Don
• 7:25
  Blassingame,
• 7:27
  who
• 7:27
  was
• 7:27
  at
• 7:27
  second
• 7:28
  base
• 7:28
  at
• 7:28
  the
• 7:28
  time,
• 7:29
  and
• 7:29
  beat
• 7:29
  him
• 7:29
  out,
• 7:29
  became
• 7:30
  Rookie
• 7:30
  of
• 7:30
  the
• 7:30
  year
• 7:30
  and
• 7:31
  the
• 7:31
  rest
• 7:31
  is
• 7:31
  history.
• 7:32
  And
• 7:33
  he
• 7:33
  had
• 7:34
  just
• 7:34
  unbelievable
• 7:34
  career.
• 7:35
  So
• 7:36
  to
• 7:36
  answer
• 7:36
  your
• 7:36
  question,
• 7:37
  I'm
• 7:37
  just
• 7:37
  not
• 7:37
  sure
• 7:38
  what
• 7:38
  they're
• 7:38
  going
• 7:38
  to
• 7:38
  do.
• 7:39
  I
• 7:39
  think
• 7:40
  they
• 7:41
  probably
• 7:41
  should
• 7:41
  have
• 7:41
  done
• 7:41
  it
• 7:42
  before
• 7:42
  he
• 7:42
  passed
• 7:43
  away,
• 7:43
  but
• 7:44
  who
• 7:44
  knows
• 7:45
  what's
• 7:45
  going
• 7:45
  to
• 7:45
  happen
• 7:45
  now.
• 7:46
  And
• 7:46
  you
• 7:47
  know,
• 7:47
  I
• 7:47
  just
• 7:47
  think
• 7:47
  he
• 7:47
  should
• 7:48
  be
• 7:48
  in
• 7:48
  it
• 7:48
  because
• 7:48
  of
• 7:49
  what
• 7:49
  he
• 7:49
  accomplished
• 7:49
  as
• 7:50
  a
• 7:50
  player,
• 7:50
  that
• 7:50
  is
• 7:51
  for
• 7:51
  sure.
• 7:51
  Yeah.
• 7:53
  You
• 7:53
  mentioned
• 7:53
  coming
• 7:54
  aboard
• 7:54
  to
• 7:54
  the
• 7:54
  Big
• 7:55
  Apple,
• 7:56
  Gil
• 7:56
  Hodges,
• 7:57
  a
• 7:57
  big
• 7:57
  proponent
• 7:58
  of
• 7:59
  what
• 7:59
  they
• 7:59
  call
• 8:00
  platooning,
• 8:00
  folks
• 8:01
  that's
• 8:01
  playing
• 8:02
  righty,
• 8:02
  lefty,
• 8:02
  switches
• 8:03
  with
• 8:03
  different
• 8:04
  positions.
• 8:05
  How
• 8:05
  did
• 8:05
  you
• 8:05
  feel
• 8:05
  platooning
• 8:06
  with
• 8:06
  Ron
• 8:06
  Swoboda
• 8:07
  out
• 8:07
  in
• 8:07
  right
• 8:08
  field?
• 8:09
  Well,
• 8:09
  it
• 8:09
  turned
• 8:09
  out
• 8:09
  it
• 8:10
  was
• 8:10
  a
• 8:10
  great
• 8:10
  year
• 8:11
  collectively
• 8:11
  for
• 8:12
  both
• 8:12
  of
• 8:12
  us
• 8:12
  out
• 8:12
  there.
• 8:13
  And
• 8:13
  Gil
• 8:13
  platooned
• 8:14
  at
• 8:14
  right
• 8:15
  field,
• 8:15
  first
• 8:15
  base,
• 8:15
  second
• 8:16
  base
• 8:16
  and
• 8:17
  third
• 8:17
  base,
• 8:17
  and
• 8:17
  then
• 8:18
  sometimes
• 8:18
  behind
• 8:18
  the
• 8:19
  plate,
• 8:20
  he
• 8:20
  got
• 8:20
  the
• 8:20
  most
• 8:21
  out
• 8:21
  of
• 8:21
  everybody.
• 8:21
  That
• 8:21
  was
• 8:22
  the
• 8:22
  brilliance
• 8:22
  of
• 8:22
  Gil
• 8:23
  Hodges
• 8:23
  to
• 8:23
  be
• 8:23
  able
• 8:24
  to
• 8:24
  get
• 8:25
  everybody
• 8:25
  involved
• 8:26
  on
• 8:26
  the
• 8:27
  team.
• 8:27
  And
• 8:28
  I
• 8:28
  think
• 8:28
  when
• 8:28
  you
• 8:29
  look
• 8:29
  back
• 8:29
  at
• 8:29
  the.
• 8:30
  Particularly
• 8:30
  that
• 8:31
  1969
• 8:31
  team,
• 8:32
  you
• 8:32
  talk
• 8:33
  about
• 8:33
  Tom
• 8:33
  Seaver,
• 8:34
  of
• 8:34
  course,
• 8:34
  and
• 8:34
  Jerry
• 8:35
  Koozman
• 8:35
  and
• 8:36
  Tommy
• 8:36
  A.G.
• 8:36
  and
• 8:37
  Cleon
• 8:37
  Jones
• 8:37
  and
• 8:37
  all
• 8:38
  the
• 8:38
  top
• 8:38
  names
• 8:39
  that
• 8:39
  we
• 8:39
  know,
• 8:39
  but
• 8:40
  guys
• 8:40
  like
• 8:40
  Rod
• 8:41
  Gaspar
• 8:41
  and
• 8:41
  Kenny
• 8:42
  Boswell
• 8:42
  and
• 8:42
  Wayne
• 8:42
  Garrett
• 8:43
  and
• 8:43
  Ed
• 8:43
  Charles
• 8:44
  and
• 8:44
  all
• 8:44
  those
• 8:44
  guys
• 8:45
  contributed
• 8:46
  something
• 8:46
  to
• 8:46
  the
• 8:46
  team.
• 8:47
  And
• 8:47
  I
• 8:47
  think
• 8:47
  that's
• 8:47
  the
• 8:47
  beauty
• 8:48
  of
• 8:48
  the
• 8:48
  team
• 8:48
  when
• 8:48
  you
• 8:48
  talk
• 8:49
  about
• 8:49
  it.
• 8:49
  It's
• 8:49
  a
• 8:50
  team
• 8:50
  that
• 8:50
  everybody
• 8:50
  knows
• 8:51
  the
• 8:51
  names
• 8:51
  who
• 8:51
  are
• 8:52
  part
• 8:52
  of
• 8:52
  it.
• 8:52
  And
• 8:53
  I
• 8:53
  tell
• 8:53
  people
• 8:53
  there
• 8:54
  are
• 8:54
  really
• 8:54
  two
• 8:54
  teams
• 8:55
  in
• 8:55
  the
• 8:55
  history
• 8:55
  of
• 8:55
  the
• 8:55
  game
• 8:55
  that
• 8:56
  resonate
• 8:56
  with
• 8:56
  fans
• 8:57
  years
• 8:57
  after
• 8:58
  they
• 8:58
  won.
• 8:58
  One
• 8:58
  of
• 8:58
  them,
• 8:59
  of
• 8:59
  course,
• 8:59
  is
• 8:59
  the
• 8:59
  27
• 9:00
  Yankees
• 9:00
  with
• 9:01
  Babe
• 9:01
  Ruth
• 9:01
  and
• 9:02
  Lou
• 9:02
  Gehrig,
• 9:02
  that
• 9:02
  it's
• 9:03
  going
• 9:03
  to
• 9:03
  be
• 9:03
  100
• 9:03
  years
• 9:04
  in
• 9:04
  two
• 9:04
  years.
• 9:04
  And
• 9:04
  we
• 9:05
  still
• 9:05
  talk
• 9:05
  about
• 9:05
  that
• 9:05
  team.
• 9:06
  And
• 9:06
  the
• 9:07
  69
• 9:07
  Mets,
• 9:08
  it's
• 9:08
  50,
• 9:08
  what,
• 9:09
  55,
• 9:09
  56
• 9:10
  years
• 9:10
  now,
• 9:11
  and
• 9:11
  people
• 9:11
  still
• 9:12
  talk
• 9:12
  about
• 9:12
  that
• 9:12
  team.
• 9:13
  I
• 9:13
  go
• 9:13
  out
• 9:13
  and
• 9:13
  do
• 9:14
  a
• 9:14
  lot
• 9:14
  of
• 9:14
  personal
• 9:15
  appearances
• 9:15
  and.
• 9:16
  And
• 9:17
  whenever
• 9:17
  I'm
• 9:17
  at
• 9:18
  a
• 9:18
  book
• 9:18
  sign,
• 9:18
  whatever
• 9:18
  it
• 9:19
  might
• 9:19
  be,
• 9:19
  people
• 9:19
  want
• 9:20
  to
• 9:20
  talk
• 9:20
  about
• 9:20
  that
• 9:21
  team.
• 9:21
  They
• 9:21
  might
• 9:21
  have
• 9:22
  been
• 9:22
  there,
• 9:22
  they
• 9:22
  might
• 9:22
  have
• 9:23
  been
• 9:23
  at
• 9:23
  a
• 9:23
  game.
• 9:23
  They
• 9:23
  know
• 9:24
  about
• 9:24
  certain
• 9:24
  things,
• 9:24
  but
• 9:25
  they
• 9:25
  still
• 9:25
  want
• 9:25
  to
• 9:25
  hear
• 9:26
  about
• 9:26
  it.
• 9:27
  And
• 9:27
  some.
• 9:28
  There's
• 9:28
  some
• 9:29
  way
• 9:30
  that
• 9:30
  it
• 9:30
  brings
• 9:30
  out
• 9:30
  the
• 9:31
  youth
• 9:31
  in
• 9:31
  people.
• 9:31
  People
• 9:32
  still
• 9:32
  want
• 9:32
  to
• 9:32
  talk
• 9:33
  about
• 9:34
  wherever
• 9:35
  they
• 9:35
  were
• 9:35
  at
• 9:35
  the
• 9:35
  time
• 9:36
  we
• 9:36
  won.
• 9:36
  And
• 9:37
  I've
• 9:37
  had
• 9:37
  100,000
• 9:38
  people
• 9:38
  tell
• 9:38
  me
• 9:38
  they
• 9:39
  were
• 9:39
  at
• 9:39
  Shea
• 9:39
  Stadium,
• 9:40
  October
• 9:40
  16,
• 9:41
  1969.
• 9:42
  And
• 9:42
  I
• 9:42
  tell
• 9:42
  myself,
• 9:43
  you
• 9:43
  know,
• 9:43
  that
• 9:43
  ballpark
• 9:44
  held
• 9:44
  about
• 9:44
  53,000
• 9:45
  people
• 9:46
  and
• 9:46
  100,000
• 9:47
  people
• 9:47
  said
• 9:47
  they
• 9:48
  were
• 9:48
  there.
• 9:48
  But
• 9:48
  it
• 9:48
  doesn't
• 9:49
  make
• 9:49
  any
• 9:49
  difference
• 9:49
  because
• 9:50
  whatever
• 9:51
  they
• 9:51
  think,
• 9:51
  whatever
• 9:51
  they
• 9:52
  feel,
• 9:52
  I
• 9:53
  enjoy
• 9:53
  talking
• 9:53
  to
• 9:54
  them.
• 9:54
  And
• 9:54
  they
• 9:54
  want
• 9:54
  to
• 9:54
  reminisce
• 9:55
  about
• 9:55
  that
• 9:55
  team
• 9:56
  because
• 9:56
  it
• 9:56
  was
• 9:57
  so
• 9:57
  special.
• 9:58
  We're
• 9:58
  talking
• 9:58
  to
• 9:58
  Art
• 9:59
  Shamsky
• 9:59
  tonight
• 10:00
  on
• 10:00
  Sports
• 10:00
  Talk
• 10:01
  New
• 10:01
  York.
• 10:01
  He
• 10:01
  has
• 10:02
  a
• 10:02
  new
• 10:02
  book
• 10:02
  out
• 10:03
  called
• 10:03
  Met
• 10:04
  I
• 10:05
  Only
• 10:05
  Tell
• 10:05
  My
• 10:05
  Friends.
• 10:06
  And
• 10:07
  I
• 10:07
  want
• 10:07
  to
• 10:07
  ask
• 10:08
  you.
• 10:08
  We'll
• 10:08
  talk
• 10:08
  about
• 10:09
  the
• 10:09
  series
• 10:09
  a
• 10:09
  little
• 10:09
  bit
• 10:10
  now,
• 10:10
  Art.
• 10:11
  Game
• 10:11
  three,
• 10:12
  it's
• 10:12
  called
• 10:12
  the
• 10:13
  Agee
• 10:13
  Game.
• 10:14
  The
• 10:14
  second
• 10:14
  catch,
• 10:15
  Paul
• 10:15
  Blair,
• 10:16
  launches
• 10:16
  one
• 10:16
  into
• 10:17
  the
• 10:17
  gap
• 10:17
  in
• 10:17
  Right
• 10:17
  center,
• 10:18
  Tommy
• 10:19
  Agee
• 10:19
  gets
• 10:20
  on
• 10:20
  his
• 10:20
  horse,
• 10:21
  makes
• 10:21
  a
• 10:22
  spectacular
• 10:23
  grab
• 10:23
  right
• 10:23
  in
• 10:24
  front
• 10:24
  of
• 10:24
  that
• 10:24
  396
• 10:25
  mark
• 10:26
  and
• 10:26
  you,
• 10:26
  you
• 10:27
  come
• 10:27
  by,
• 10:28
  I
• 10:28
  guess
• 10:28
  you
• 10:28
  were
• 10:29
  backing
• 10:29
  him
• 10:29
  up
• 10:29
  in
• 10:29
  case
• 10:30
  he
• 10:30
  missed
• 10:30
  it.
• 10:31
  But
• 10:31
  what
• 10:31
  did
• 10:31
  you
• 10:31
  think
• 10:32
  when
• 10:32
  you
• 10:32
  saw
• 10:32
  him
• 10:32
  come
• 10:32
  up
• 10:33
  with
• 10:33
  that
• 10:33
  baseball?
• 10:34
  I
• 10:35
  was
• 10:35
  telling
• 10:35
  him
• 10:35
  he
• 10:35
  had
• 10:36
  plenty
• 10:36
  of
• 10:36
  room.
• 10:36
  I
• 10:37
  always,
• 10:37
  I
• 10:37
  always
• 10:38
  kid,
• 10:38
  kid
• 10:38
  him
• 10:38
  when
• 10:39
  Tommy
• 10:39
  was
• 10:39
  around.
• 10:40
  I
• 10:40
  said,
• 10:40
  you
• 10:40
  mean
• 10:40
  he
• 10:41
  made
• 10:41
  it
• 10:41
  easy,
• 10:41
  Play
• 10:42
  work
• 10:42
  hard
• 10:42
  and
• 10:43
  you've
• 10:43
  reaped
• 10:43
  the
• 10:43
  benefits
• 10:44
  all
• 10:44
  these
• 10:44
  years
• 10:45
  because
• 10:45
  of
• 10:45
  it.
• 10:45
  But
• 10:46
  really
• 10:46
  and
• 10:46
  truly,
• 10:47
  it's
• 10:47
  a
• 10:48
  game
• 10:48
  that
• 10:48
  he
• 10:49
  had,
• 10:49
  a
• 10:49
  game
• 10:49
  that
• 10:49
  game
• 10:50
  three,
• 10:50
  that
• 10:50
  people,
• 10:51
  kids
• 10:51
  dream
• 10:52
  about
• 10:52
  when
• 10:52
  they're
• 10:52
  growing
• 10:52
  up,
• 10:53
  hit
• 10:53
  a
• 10:53
  home
• 10:54
  run
• 10:54
  in
• 10:54
  the
• 10:54
  bottom
• 10:54
  of
• 10:54
  the
• 10:55
  first
• 10:55
  and
• 10:56
  save
• 10:56
  five
• 10:56
  or
• 10:56
  six
• 10:57
  runs
• 10:57
  with
• 10:57
  those
• 10:57
  two
• 10:58
  catches
• 10:58
  and
• 10:58
  one
• 10:59
  in
• 10:59
  left
• 10:59
  center
• 10:59
  and
• 11:00
  one
• 11:00
  in
• 11:00
  right
• 11:00
  center.
• 11:00
  It's
• 11:01
  a
• 11:02
  game
• 11:02
  you
• 11:02
  dream
• 11:02
  of.
• 11:03
  And
• 11:03
  Tommy
• 11:04
  just
• 11:04
  had
• 11:04
  a
• 11:04
  great
• 11:04
  year
• 11:05
  that
• 11:05
  year.
• 11:05
  And
• 11:06
  I
• 11:06
  was
• 11:07
  part,
• 11:07
  you
• 11:08
  know,
• 11:08
  when
• 11:08
  I
• 11:08
  was
• 11:08
  in
• 11:09
  right
• 11:09
  field,
• 11:09
  you
• 11:09
  know,
• 11:10
  just
• 11:11
  watching
• 11:11
  him
• 11:11
  play
• 11:12
  was
• 11:12
  great.
• 11:12
  And
• 11:13
  you
• 11:13
  know,
• 11:13
  I
• 11:13
  was
• 11:13
  just
• 11:14
  thinking
• 11:14
  it
• 11:14
  was
• 11:14
  just
• 11:15
  another
• 11:15
  unbelievable
• 11:16
  catch
• 11:16
  and
• 11:17
  he
• 11:17
  just
• 11:18
  was
• 11:19
  playing
• 11:19
  great
• 11:20
  center
• 11:20
  field
• 11:20
  that
• 11:21
  year
• 11:21
  for
• 11:21
  us.
• 11:21
  And
• 11:22
  I
• 11:22
  think
• 11:22
  he
• 11:22
  led
• 11:23
  the
• 11:23
  team
• 11:23
  in
• 11:23
  home
• 11:23
  runs,
• 11:23
  if
• 11:24
  I'm
• 11:24
  mistaken,
• 11:25
  home
• 11:25
  runs
• 11:25
  that
• 11:25
  you're
• 11:26
  leading
• 11:26
  off.
• 11:27
  So
• 11:27
  it
• 11:28
  was
• 11:28
  very
• 11:28
  apropos
• 11:29
  that
• 11:29
  he
• 11:29
  would
• 11:29
  have
• 11:29
  a
• 11:29
  game
• 11:29
  like
• 11:30
  that.
• 11:31
  And
• 11:31
  like
• 11:31
  so
• 11:32
  many
• 11:32
  guys,
• 11:32
  taken
• 11:33
  from
• 11:33
  us
• 11:33
  too
• 11:34
  young,
• 11:34
  Tomieji,
• 11:35
  that's
• 11:35
  for
• 11:35
  sure.
• 11:36
  Now
• 11:37
  people
• 11:37
  may
• 11:37
  not
• 11:38
  realize,
• 11:38
  Art,
• 11:39
  you
• 11:39
  managed
• 11:39
  in
• 11:40
  the
• 11:40
  Israel
• 11:40
  Baseball
• 11:41
  League.
• 11:42
  I
• 11:42
  want
• 11:42
  to
• 11:42
  ask
• 11:42
  you
• 11:43
  how
• 11:43
  much
• 11:43
  did
• 11:44
  the
• 11:44
  influence
• 11:45
  of
• 11:45
  Gil
• 11:45
  Hodges
• 11:46
  influence
• 11:47
  your
• 11:47
  management
• 11:48
  style,
• 11:48
  your
• 11:48
  philosophy
• 11:50
  into
• 11:50
  managing
• 11:50
  a
• 11:51
  ball
• 11:51
  game?
• 11:52
  Well,
• 11:52
  Gil
• 11:52
  was
• 11:53
  a
• 11:53
  brilliant
• 11:53
  tacticianer
• 11:54
  and
• 11:54
  like
• 11:55
  I
• 11:55
  said
• 11:55
  before,
• 11:55
  he
• 11:55
  got
• 11:56
  everybody
• 11:56
  involved.
• 11:57
  And
• 11:57
  I
• 11:57
  think
• 11:57
  what
• 11:58
  I
• 11:58
  tried
• 11:58
  to
• 11:58
  do,
• 11:59
  it
• 11:59
  was
• 11:59
  a
• 11:59
  league
• 11:59
  that
• 12:00
  really
• 12:00
  only
• 12:00
  lasted
• 12:01
  one
• 12:01
  year,
• 12:01
  but
• 12:01
  it
• 12:01
  was
• 12:02
  great
• 12:02
  for
• 12:02
  me.
• 12:02
  I
• 12:02
  enjoyed
• 12:03
  managing.
• 12:04
  It
• 12:04
  was
• 12:04
  simple
• 12:05
  too.
• 12:05
  It
• 12:05
  was
• 12:05
  designated
• 12:06
  hitter,
• 12:06
  seven
• 12:07
  inning
• 12:07
  games
• 12:07
  that
• 12:08
  you
• 12:09
  decide
• 12:09
  a
• 12:09
  game
• 12:09
  after
• 12:10
  the
• 12:10
  seven
• 12:10
  innings
• 12:10
  of
• 12:11
  a
• 12:11
  tie
• 12:11
  by
• 12:11
  a
• 12:12
  home
• 12:12
  run
• 12:12
  hitting
• 12:12
  contest.
• 12:13
  It
• 12:13
  wasn't
• 12:13
  really
• 12:14
  great
• 12:14
  baseball,
• 12:15
  but
• 12:15
  I'll
• 12:15
  be
• 12:15
  perfectly
• 12:15
  honest.
• 12:17
  But
• 12:17
  for
• 12:17
  me
• 12:18
  it
• 12:18
  was
• 12:18
  a
• 12:18
  great
• 12:18
  experience.
• 12:19
  And
• 12:19
  it
• 12:19
  turned
• 12:19
  out
• 12:20
  luckily
• 12:20
  there
• 12:20
  wasn't
• 12:21
  a
• 12:21
  lot
• 12:21
  of
• 12:21
  problems
• 12:22
  going
• 12:22
  on
• 12:22
  over
• 12:22
  there.
• 12:23
  And
• 12:23
  we
• 12:24
  got
• 12:24
  through
• 12:24
  it
• 12:24
  pretty
• 12:25
  well.
• 12:25
  Unfortunately,
• 12:25
  it
• 12:26
  wasn't
• 12:26
  run
• 12:27
  properly,
• 12:27
  it
• 12:27
  was
• 12:28
  mismanaged,
• 12:28
  they
• 12:29
  ran
• 12:29
  out
• 12:29
  of
• 12:29
  money.
• 12:29
  But
• 12:30
  I
• 12:30
  will
• 12:30
  tell
• 12:30
  you
• 12:31
  this,
• 12:31
  I
• 12:31
  think
• 12:31
  that
• 12:32
  league
• 12:32
  was
• 12:32
  a
• 12:33
  prelude
• 12:33
  to
• 12:33
  Israel
• 12:34
  determining
• 12:35
  that
• 12:35
  they
• 12:35
  want
• 12:35
  to
• 12:36
  be
• 12:36
  a
• 12:36
  player
• 12:36
  in
• 12:36
  international
• 12:37
  baseball.
• 12:38
  And
• 12:38
  from
• 12:38
  that
• 12:39
  they
• 12:39
  decided
• 12:39
  the
• 12:40
  fields
• 12:40
  were
• 12:40
  really
• 12:40
  awful.
• 12:41
  Everything
• 12:41
  was,
• 12:42
  equipment
• 12:42
  wasn't
• 12:43
  good,
• 12:43
  it
• 12:43
  was
• 12:43
  just
• 12:44
  wasn't
• 12:44
  a
• 12:44
  really
• 12:45
  well
• 12:45
  planned
• 12:46
  league.
• 12:46
  But
• 12:47
  from
• 12:47
  that
• 12:47
  league,
• 12:48
  2007
• 12:49
  Israel
• 12:50
  decided
• 12:50
  to
• 12:51
  build
• 12:51
  some
• 12:51
  fields
• 12:52
  and
• 12:53
  work
• 12:53
  on
• 12:54
  their
• 12:54
  game
• 12:54
  and
• 12:54
  become
• 12:54
  an
• 12:55
  international
• 12:55
  player
• 12:55
  in
• 12:56
  baseball.
• 12:56
  And
• 12:56
  as
• 12:57
  witnessed
• 12:57
  by
• 12:57
  what
• 12:57
  they've
• 12:58
  done
• 12:58
  in
• 12:59
  the
• 12:59
  Olympics
• 12:59
  and
• 13:00
  the
• 13:00
  World
• 13:00
  Baseball
• 13:01
  Classic,
• 13:01
  it's
• 13:02
  pretty
• 13:02
  obvious
• 13:02
  they're
• 13:03
  serious
• 13:03
  about
• 13:03
  the
• 13:04
  game.
• 13:04
  And
• 13:05
  to
• 13:05
  their
• 13:05
  credit,
• 13:06
  they
• 13:06
  really
• 13:06
  worked
• 13:06
  hard
• 13:07
  to
• 13:07
  develop
• 13:08
  the
• 13:08
  game
• 13:08
  over
• 13:09
  there.
• 13:09
  And
• 13:09
  for
• 13:10
  me,
• 13:10
  though,
• 13:10
  it
• 13:10
  was
• 13:10
  just
• 13:11
  a
• 13:11
  wonderful
• 13:11
  experience.
• 13:12
  I
• 13:12
  met
• 13:13
  a
• 13:13
  lot
• 13:13
  of
• 13:13
  wonderful
• 13:13
  people,
• 13:14
  and
• 13:14
  I
• 13:14
  learned
• 13:14
  a
• 13:14
  lot
• 13:15
  about
• 13:15
  the
• 13:16
  trials
• 13:16
  and
• 13:16
  tribulations
• 13:17
  of
• 13:17
  the
• 13:17
  Middle
• 13:17
  east,
• 13:18
  both
• 13:19
  sides,
• 13:19
  and
• 13:19
  I
• 13:20
  appreciate
• 13:21
  everything
• 13:21
  I
• 13:21
  learned
• 13:21
  and
• 13:21
  I
• 13:22
  met
• 13:22
  some
• 13:22
  wonderful
• 13:22
  people
• 13:23
  over
• 13:23
  there
• 13:24
  and
• 13:24
  my
• 13:24
  experience
• 13:25
  of
• 13:25
  it.
• 13:25
  I've
• 13:25
  been
• 13:25
  back,
• 13:25
  I've
• 13:26
  done
• 13:26
  some
• 13:26
  clinics,
• 13:27
  and
• 13:27
  the
• 13:27
  experience
• 13:28
  over
• 13:28
  there
• 13:28
  for
• 13:28
  me
• 13:29
  really
• 13:29
  was
• 13:30
  great.
• 13:30
  And
• 13:31
  I
• 13:31
  get
• 13:31
  a
• 13:31
  lot
• 13:31
  of
• 13:31
  people
• 13:32
  asking
• 13:32
  me
• 13:32
  about
• 13:32
  it,
• 13:32
  but
• 13:33
  the
• 13:33
  league
• 13:33
  itself
• 13:33
  was
• 13:34
  not
• 13:34
  really
• 13:35
  done
• 13:35
  well.
• 13:35
  But
• 13:36
  again,
• 13:36
  I
• 13:36
  feel
• 13:36
  very
• 13:37
  proud
• 13:37
  that
• 13:37
  we
• 13:37
  were
• 13:38
  part
• 13:38
  of
• 13:38
  the
• 13:38
  beginning
• 13:39
  of
• 13:39
  Israel's
• 13:40
  determination
• 13:40
  to
• 13:40
  become
• 13:42
  an
• 13:43
  organization
• 13:43
  or
• 13:43
  a
• 13:44
  state
• 13:44
  that
• 13:44
  really
• 13:44
  develops
• 13:45
  the
• 13:45
  game
• 13:45
  of
• 13:45
  baseball.
• 13:46
  And
• 13:46
  they
• 13:46
  have
• 13:47
  so.
• 13:47
  Well,
• 13:48
  that's
• 13:48
  for
• 13:48
  sure,
• 13:48
  Art.
• 13:49
  Now,
• 13:50
  before
• 13:50
  we
• 13:50
  get
• 13:51
  to
• 13:51
  the
• 13:51
  book,
• 13:51
  I
• 13:51
  just
• 13:52
  want
• 13:52
  to
• 13:52
  mention,
• 13:52
  back
• 13:52
  in
• 13:53
  fifth
• 13:53
  grade,
• 13:54
  we
• 13:54
  had
• 13:55
  an
• 13:55
  ongoing
• 13:56
  controversy
• 13:56
  regarding
• 13:57
  sideburns
• 13:58
  at
• 13:58
  the
• 13:59
  time.
• 13:59
  Now,
• 14:00
  I
• 14:00
  had
• 14:00
  you,
• 14:01
  my
• 14:01
  Yankee
• 14:02
  fan
• 14:02
  buddy
• 14:02
  would
• 14:02
  have
• 14:03
  Pepitone,
• 14:04
  who
• 14:04
  had
• 14:04
  the
• 14:05
  best
• 14:05
  sideburns
• 14:06
  in
• 14:06
  New
• 14:06
  York
• 14:06
  back
• 14:07
  then?
• 14:08
  Oh,
• 14:08
  gosh,
• 14:09
  I
• 14:09
  don't
• 14:09
  know.
• 14:09
  That
• 14:09
  was
• 14:09
  the
• 14:10
  Beatles
• 14:10
  look
• 14:10
  back
• 14:11
  then.
• 14:11
  But
• 14:12
  I
• 14:12
  don't
• 14:12
  know.
• 14:12
  Joe
• 14:12
  and
• 14:13
  I
• 14:13
  became
• 14:13
  friends
• 14:13
  over
• 14:14
  the
• 14:14
  years.
• 14:14
  I
• 14:14
  think
• 14:15
  everybody
• 14:15
  was
• 14:15
  going
• 14:15
  sideways.
• 14:17
  It
• 14:18
  was
• 14:18
  the
• 14:18
  Beatles
• 14:18
  look
• 14:19
  alike
• 14:19
  kind
• 14:19
  of
• 14:19
  thing.
• 14:20
  But
• 14:20
  I
• 14:21
  remember
• 14:21
  one
• 14:21
  time
• 14:21
  we
• 14:21
  had
• 14:21
  a
• 14:22
  meeting
• 14:22
  and
• 14:22
  Gil
• 14:22
  Hodges
• 14:23
  didn't
• 14:23
  have
• 14:23
  very
• 14:24
  many
• 14:24
  meetings.
• 14:24
  And
• 14:25
  when
• 14:25
  he
• 14:25
  got
• 14:25
  mad,
• 14:25
  you
• 14:26
  really
• 14:26
  knew
• 14:26
  what
• 14:26
  was
• 14:26
  going.
• 14:27
  He
• 14:27
  was
• 14:27
  really
• 14:27
  going
• 14:28
  to
• 14:29
  be
• 14:29
  upset.
• 14:30
  And
• 14:30
  we
• 14:30
  was
• 14:30
  talking
• 14:31
  about,
• 14:31
  well,
• 14:31
  you
• 14:31
  guys
• 14:31
  aren't
• 14:32
  doing
• 14:32
  this
• 14:32
  right.
• 14:32
  You're
• 14:32
  not
• 14:33
  doing
• 14:33
  that
• 14:33
  right.
• 14:34
  And
• 14:34
  finally
• 14:34
  he
• 14:34
  turned
• 14:35
  around.
• 14:35
  There
• 14:35
  was
• 14:35
  a
• 14:35
  whole
• 14:35
  row
• 14:36
  of
• 14:36
  myself
• 14:37
  and
• 14:37
  Jerry
• 14:38
  Grody
• 14:38
  and
• 14:39
  Ron
• 14:40
  Sobota
• 14:40
  and
• 14:40
  Kenny
• 14:41
  Boswell
• 14:41
  and
• 14:42
  Eddie
• 14:42
  Crane
• 14:42
  Poe.
• 14:43
  And
• 14:43
  we're
• 14:43
  sitting
• 14:43
  there
• 14:43
  and
• 14:44
  Gil's
• 14:44
  telling
• 14:44
  us
• 14:44
  all
• 14:45
  the
• 14:45
  things
• 14:45
  we're
• 14:45
  doing
• 14:46
  well,
• 14:46
  and
• 14:46
  he
• 14:46
  looked
• 14:46
  at
• 14:47
  us,
• 14:47
  he
• 14:47
  said,
• 14:47
  not
• 14:47
  only
• 14:48
  that
• 14:48
  those
• 14:48
  Steinbergs
• 14:49
  look
• 14:49
  like
• 14:50
  whatever,
• 14:51
  you
• 14:51
  know.
• 14:51
  And
• 14:52
  so
• 14:52
  we
• 14:52
  trimmed
• 14:53
  him
• 14:53
  a
• 14:53
  little
• 14:53
  bit
• 14:53
  after
• 14:54
  that
• 14:54
  meeting,
• 14:54
  but
• 14:55
  he
• 14:55
  never
• 14:55
  said
• 14:55
  another
• 14:55
  word.
• 14:56
  Maybe
• 14:56
  because
• 14:57
  we
• 14:57
  started
• 14:57
  playing
• 14:57
  better
• 14:58
  baseball,
• 14:58
  but.
• 14:59
  But
• 14:59
  that
• 14:59
  was
• 15:00
  the
• 15:00
  Beatles
• 15:00
  look
• 15:00
  back
• 15:01
  then.
• 15:03
  It
• 15:03
  was
• 15:03
  the
• 15:03
  way
• 15:03
  it
• 15:03
  was.
• 15:06
  People
• 15:06
  comment
• 15:07
  about
• 15:07
  it.
• 15:07
  I
• 15:07
  have
• 15:07
  photos
• 15:08
  that
• 15:08
  people
• 15:09
  like
• 15:09
  to
• 15:09
  see
• 15:09
  that
• 15:10
  I
• 15:10
  have
• 15:11
  the
• 15:11
  sideburns.
• 15:11
  And
• 15:12
  this
• 15:12
  was
• 15:13
  one
• 15:13
  of
• 15:13
  many
• 15:13
  players
• 15:14
  in
• 15:14
  the
• 15:14
  big
• 15:14
  leagues
• 15:15
  that
• 15:15
  had
• 15:15
  the
• 15:15
  sideburns
• 15:16
  back
• 15:16
  then.
• 15:16
  Well,
• 15:17
  we'll
• 15:18
  give
• 15:18
  the
• 15:18
  award
• 15:19
  to
• 15:19
  Walt
• 15:19
  Clyde
• 15:20
  Frazier
• 15:21
  how's
• 15:21
  that
• 15:22
  sound?
• 15:23
  That's
• 15:23
  as
• 15:24
  good
• 15:24
  as
• 15:24
  you
• 15:24
  can
• 15:24
  get
• 15:24
  right
• 15:25
  there.
• 15:25
  Exactly.
• 15:26
  Now,
• 15:27
  the
• 15:27
  new
• 15:27
  book,
• 15:27
  Met
• 15:28
  Stories
• 15:28
  I
• 15:28
  Only
• 15:29
  Tell
• 15:29
  My
• 15:29
  Friends
• 15:30
  from
• 15:30
  Art
• 15:30
  Chamsky
• 15:31
  from
• 15:31
  the
• 15:32
  publishers
• 15:32
  at
• 15:32
  Triumph
• 15:33
  out
• 15:33
  in
• 15:33
  Chicago.
• 15:34
  It's
• 15:34
  really,
• 15:35
  folks,
• 15:36
  a
• 15:36
  great
• 15:36
  collection
• 15:37
  of
• 15:37
  stories
• 15:38
  that
• 15:39
  you
• 15:39
  have
• 15:39
  not
• 15:39
  heard
• 15:40
  before.
• 15:41
  You
• 15:41
  describe
• 15:42
  Art,
• 15:43
  the
• 15:43
  team's
• 15:43
  leadership
• 15:44
  provided
• 15:44
  by
• 15:44
  Seaver,
• 15:45
  of
• 15:46
  course,
• 15:46
  the
• 15:46
  influence
• 15:46
  of
• 15:47
  Gil
• 15:47
  that
• 15:48
  we've
• 15:48
  been
• 15:48
  talking
• 15:48
  about
• 15:49
  and
• 15:50
  Harper's
• 15:51
  Bazaar
• 15:51
  with
• 15:52
  Lauren
• 15:52
  Hutton.
• 15:53
  Was
• 15:54
  that
• 15:54
  all
• 15:54
  working?
• 15:55
  No
• 15:55
  play,
• 15:55
  Art,
• 15:56
  or
• 15:56
  can
• 15:56
  you
• 15:56
  give
• 15:56
  us
• 15:57
  any
• 15:58
  information
• 15:58
  as
• 15:59
  far
• 15:59
  as
• 15:59
  that
• 15:59
  goes?
• 16:00
  Well,
• 16:00
  you
• 16:00
  know,
• 16:01
  Bill,
• 16:01
  more
• 16:01
  books
• 16:02
  have
• 16:02
  been
• 16:02
  written
• 16:02
  about
• 16:02
  the
• 16:03
  1969
• 16:04
  Mets
• 16:04
  than
• 16:04
  any
• 16:05
  sports
• 16:05
  team
• 16:05
  in
• 16:05
  history.
• 16:06
  I've
• 16:07
  written
• 16:07
  three
• 16:07
  now,
• 16:08
  and,
• 16:08
  you
• 16:08
  know,
• 16:09
  about
• 16:09
  the
• 16:09
  first
• 16:09
  two.
• 16:09
  But,
• 16:10
  you
• 16:10
  know,
• 16:11
  maybe
• 16:11
  the
• 16:11
  Yankees
• 16:11
  over
• 16:12
  the
• 16:12
  years
• 16:12
  have
• 16:12
  had
• 16:12
  more
• 16:13
  books
• 16:13
  written
• 16:14
  about
• 16:14
  the
• 16:14
  organization,
• 16:15
  but
• 16:15
  not
• 16:15
  a
• 16:15
  certain
• 16:15
  team.
• 16:16
  And
• 16:16
  when
• 16:17
  I
• 16:17
  was
• 16:17
  thinking
• 16:17
  about
• 16:17
  writing
• 16:18
  another
• 16:18
  book
• 16:18
  after
• 16:19
  the
• 16:19
  first
• 16:19
  two,
• 16:19
  I
• 16:20
  said,
• 16:20
  what
• 16:20
  am
• 16:20
  I
• 16:20
  going
• 16:20
  to
• 16:20
  write
• 16:20
  about
• 16:21
  that
• 16:21
  hasn't
• 16:21
  been
• 16:22
  written
• 16:22
  before?
• 16:23
  And
• 16:23
  I
• 16:23
  happen
• 16:24
  to
• 16:24
  know
• 16:25
  about
• 16:25
  a
• 16:25
  book
• 16:25
  that
• 16:26
  former
• 16:26
  President
• 16:26
  Dwight
• 16:27
  Eisenhower
• 16:28
  wrote
• 16:28
  way
• 16:28
  back
• 16:28
  in
• 16:28
  the
• 16:29
  50s
• 16:29
  called
• 16:30
  At
• 16:30
  Ease
• 16:31
  Stories
• 16:31
  I
• 16:31
  Only
• 16:31
  Tell
• 16:32
  My
• 16:32
  Friends.
• 16:32
  And
• 16:32
  I
• 16:33
  decided
• 16:33
  there's
• 16:34
  inside
• 16:35
  stuff
• 16:35
  that
• 16:35
  hasn't
• 16:35
  been
• 16:36
  talked
• 16:36
  about.
• 16:36
  And
• 16:37
  it's
• 16:37
  not
• 16:37
  stuff
• 16:37
  that's
• 16:38
  bad.
• 16:38
  It's
• 16:38
  just
• 16:38
  stuff
• 16:39
  that
• 16:39
  I
• 16:39
  experienced.
• 16:40
  And
• 16:41
  this
• 16:41
  book
• 16:41
  is
• 16:42
  not
• 16:42
  going
• 16:42
  to
• 16:42
  nail
• 16:42
  anybody
• 16:43
  for
• 16:43
  anything
• 16:43
  they
• 16:44
  did.
• 16:44
  And
• 16:45
  it's
• 16:45
  just
• 16:45
  a
• 16:45
  book
• 16:46
  that
• 16:46
  I
• 16:46
  hope
• 16:46
  make
• 16:47
  makes
• 16:47
  people
• 16:47
  smile.
• 16:48
  It's
• 16:48
  about
• 16:49
  some
• 16:49
  of
• 16:49
  the
• 16:49
  experiences
• 16:50
  I
• 16:50
  had
• 16:50
  on
• 16:50
  and
• 16:51
  off
• 16:51
  the
• 16:51
  field.
• 16:52
  And
• 16:52
  that
• 16:52
  was
• 16:52
  really
• 16:53
  what
• 16:53
  I
• 16:53
  wanted
• 16:53
  to
• 16:53
  do.
• 16:54
  And
• 16:54
  it's
• 16:54
  a
• 16:54
  little
• 16:55
  bit
• 16:55
  different
• 16:55
  than
• 16:55
  the
• 16:55
  other
• 16:56
  two
• 16:56
  books
• 16:56
  I
• 16:56
  wrote,
• 16:57
  but
• 16:57
  I've
• 16:58
  written.
• 16:58
  But
• 16:59
  I
• 16:59
  just
• 16:59
  wanted
• 16:59
  people
• 17:00
  to
• 17:00
  look
• 17:00
  at
• 17:01
  certain
• 17:01
  things.
• 17:01
  I
• 17:01
  tell
• 17:02
  some
• 17:02
  stories
• 17:02
  about
• 17:03
  some
• 17:03
  off
• 17:03
  days
• 17:04
  that
• 17:04
  we
• 17:04
  had
• 17:04
  and
• 17:04
  what
• 17:04
  we
• 17:05
  did
• 17:05
  and
• 17:05
  some
• 17:06
  of
• 17:06
  the
• 17:06
  things
• 17:06
  that
• 17:06
  I
• 17:06
  thought
• 17:07
  I
• 17:07
  think
• 17:07
  people
• 17:08
  will
• 17:08
  find
• 17:08
  interesting.
• 17:09
  And,
• 17:10
  you
• 17:10
  know,
• 17:10
  and
• 17:11
  that's
• 17:11
  really
• 17:12
  how
• 17:12
  I
• 17:12
  decided
• 17:12
  to
• 17:13
  write
• 17:13
  it.
• 17:13
  And
• 17:13
  again,
• 17:14
  it's
• 17:14
  not
• 17:14
  a
• 17:14
  book
• 17:14
  where
• 17:15
  you're
• 17:15
  going
• 17:15
  to
• 17:15
  pick
• 17:15
  up
• 17:16
  and
• 17:16
  say,
• 17:16
  hey,
• 17:16
  oh,
• 17:16
  I
• 17:17
  didn't
• 17:17
  realize
• 17:17
  this
• 17:17
  guy
• 17:18
  was
• 17:18
  out
• 17:18
  doing
• 17:18
  this
• 17:19
  and
• 17:19
  doing
• 17:19
  that.
• 17:19
  No,
• 17:19
  it's
• 17:20
  not
• 17:20
  that.
• 17:20
  We
• 17:20
  did
• 17:20
  some
• 17:21
  things
• 17:21
  and,
• 17:22
  you
• 17:22
  know,
• 17:22
  and
• 17:23
  maybe
• 17:24
  they
• 17:24
  weren't.
• 17:25
  Maybe
• 17:25
  they
• 17:25
  weren't
• 17:26
  supposed
• 17:26
  to
• 17:26
  be
• 17:26
  done
• 17:27
  at
• 17:27
  the
• 17:27
  time,
• 17:27
  but
• 17:28
  like
• 17:28
  curfew
• 17:28
  or
• 17:28
  something
• 17:29
  like
• 17:29
  that.
• 17:29
  But
• 17:30
  it's
• 17:30
  really
• 17:30
  my
• 17:31
  looking
• 17:31
  at
• 17:31
  certain
• 17:32
  things
• 17:32
  and
• 17:33
  trying
• 17:33
  to
• 17:33
  express
• 17:33
  it
• 17:33
  to
• 17:34
  people
• 17:34
  and
• 17:34
  hopefully
• 17:35
  they'll
• 17:35
  get
• 17:35
  a
• 17:35
  smile
• 17:36
  and
• 17:36
  a
• 17:36
  laugh
• 17:36
  and
• 17:37
  chuckle
• 17:37
  about
• 17:37
  it
• 17:38
  and
• 17:39
  understand
• 17:39
  that
• 17:39
  we
• 17:39
  were
• 17:40
  human
• 17:40
  on
• 17:40
  and
• 17:40
  off
• 17:40
  the
• 17:41
  field.
• 17:41
  That,
• 17:41
  you
• 17:42
  know,
• 17:42
  I
• 17:42
  tell
• 17:43
  people
• 17:43
  that
• 17:43
  baseball,
• 17:44
  there's
• 17:44
  a
• 17:44
  lot
• 17:44

  just
• 18:40
  reminiscing
• 18:41
  about
• 18:41
  certain

  and

  we

• 18:48
  Kenny
• 18:49
  was

  from
• 18:49
  Austin,

  Texas.
• 18:50
  He
• 18:50
  would,
• 18:51
  you
• 18:51
  know,
• 18:51
  whenever
• 18:51
  he
• 18:51
  could,
• 18:52
  he
• 18:52
  could

  that

• 18:53
  with
• 18:54
  a
• 18:54
  big

• 18:54
  And
• 18:55
  I
• 18:55
  came
• 18:55
  from
• 18:55
  St.
• 18:55
  Louis
• 18:56
  and

  different

• 18:57
  and
• 18:57
  the

  things
• 18:57
  that,
• 18:58
  that
• 18:58
  we
• 18:59
  laugh
• 18:59
  about

• 19:02
  And
• 19:03
  I
• 19:03
  tell
• 19:03
  people
• 19:04
  I'm
• 19:04
  still
• 19:04
  trying
• 19:04
  to
• 19:04
  collect
• 19:05
  money
• 19:05
  that
• 19:05
  I
• 19:05
  spent
• 19:06
  on
• 19:06
  room
• 19:06
  service
• 19:06
  that
• 19:07
  he
• 19:07
  never
• 19:07
  paid
• 19:07
  for
• 19:08
  years
• 19:08
  that
• 19:09
  I
• 19:09
  groomed
• 19:09
  with
• 19:10
  them.
• 19:10
  But
• 19:11
  you
• 19:11
  know,
• 19:12
  there's
• 19:12
  really
• 19:13
  not
• 19:13
  one
• 19:13
  thing
• 19:13
  that
• 19:14
  was
• 19:14
  a

• 19:15
  But
• 19:15
  I
• 19:15
  think
• 19:16
  sharing
• 19:16
  those
• 19:17
  moments
• 19:17
  with
• 19:17
  my
• 19:17
  friends
• 19:18
  and
• 19:18
  guys
• 19:19
  and
• 19:19
  teammates,
• 19:20
  you
• 19:20
  know,
• 19:20
  we
• 19:20
  lost
• 19:20
  five
• 19:20
  guys
• 19:21
  from
• 19:21
  the
• 19:21
  team
• 19:21
  last
• 19:22
  year.
• 19:22
  It's
• 19:22
  a
• 19:23
  tough
• 19:23
  year
• 19:23
  for
• 19:24
  me
• 19:24
  on
• 19:24
  a
• 19:24
  personal
• 19:25
  level
• 19:25
  that
• 19:26
  we
• 19:26
  lost
• 19:26
  these
• 19:27
  wonderful
• 19:27
  teammates
• 19:28
  and
• 19:28
  we
• 19:28
  still
• 19:29
  have
• 19:29
  a
• 19:29
  nucleus
• 19:29
  of
• 19:29
  guys
• 19:30
  around.
• 19:30
  But
• 19:31
  every
• 19:31
  time
• 19:31
  I
• 19:31
  lose
• 19:32
  a
• 19:32
  teammate
• 19:32
  from
• 19:33
  that
• 19:33
  team,
• 19:33
  it's
• 19:34
  very
• 19:34
  upsetting
• 19:35
  and
• 19:35
  disturbing
• 19:36
  for
• 19:36
  me
• 19:36
  because
• 19:36
  we
• 19:36
  shared
• 19:37
  good
• 19:38
  moments
• 19:38
  and
• 19:38
  bad
• 19:39
  moments.
• 19:39
  And
• 19:39
  I
• 19:39
  think
• 19:39
  the
• 19:39
  beauty
• 19:40
  of
• 19:40
  that
• 19:40
  team,
• 19:40
  Bill,
• 19:41
  is
• 19:41
  that
• 19:42
  we
• 19:43
  came
• 19:43
  from
• 19:43
  Nowhere
• 19:44
  after
• 19:44
  finishing
• 19:45
  ninth
• 19:45
  a
• 19:45
  half
• 19:46
  game
• 19:46
  out
• 19:46
  of
• 19:46
  last
• 19:46
  place
• 19:47
  in
• 19:47
  1968
• 19:48
  and
• 19:48
  winning
• 19:49

• 19:49
  World
• 19:49
  Series
• 19:50
  next
• 19:50
  year.
• 19:50
  And
• 19:53
  the
• 19:53
  way
• 19:54
  that
• 19:54
  you
• 19:55
  go
• 19:55
  from
• 19:55
  almost
• 19:56
  being
• 19:56
  in
• 19:56
  last

• 19:57
  to
• 19:57

• 19:58
  of
• 19:58
  the
• 19:58

• 19:58
  which
• 19:59
  makes
• 19:59
  it
• 19:59
  that
• 19:59
  much
• 19:59
  more
• 20:00
  special.
• 20:00
  And
• 20:01
  I
• 20:01
  think
• 20:01
  I
• 20:02
  try
• 20:02
  to
• 20:02
  share
• 20:02
  those
• 20:03
  moments
• 20:03
  with

  the

• 20:07
  a
• 20:07

• 20:08
  from

• 20:18
  with

• 20:25
  For
• 20:25
  14
• 20:26
  days
• 20:26
  and,
• 20:27
  and
• 20:27
  all
• 20:27
  those
• 20:28
  things
• 20:28
  that
• 20:28
  we
• 20:28
  did
• 20:29
  because
• 20:29
  I
• 20:29
  was
• 20:30
  part
• 20:30
  of
• 20:30
  that
• 20:30
  69
• 20:31
  Met
• 20:31
  team.
• 20:32
  And
• 20:32
  I
• 20:32
  think
• 20:32
  that's
• 20:32
  what
• 20:33
  I
• 20:33
  tried
• 20:33
  to
• 20:33
  do
• 20:33
  in
• 20:33
  this
• 20:34
  book
• 20:34
  and
• 20:34
  just
• 20:35
  make
• 20:35
  people
• 20:35
  just
• 20:36
  understand
• 20:36
  and
• 20:37
  see
• 20:37
  the
• 20:38
  world
• 20:38
  that
• 20:38
  we
• 20:39
  became
• 20:39
  of
• 20:39
  us
• 20:40
  after
• 20:40
  we
• 20:40
  won
• 20:40
  the
• 20:40
  world.
• 20:40
  So
• 20:41
  he
• 20:41
  didn't
• 20:41
  even
• 20:41
  talk
• 20:42
  about
• 20:42
  when
• 20:42
  I
• 20:42
  got
• 20:42
  traded
• 20:43
  over
• 20:43
  to
• 20:43
  the
• 20:43
  Mets
• 20:43
  and
• 20:44
  shock
• 20:44
  that
• 20:44
  I
• 20:45
  had
• 20:45
  learning
• 20:45
  about
• 20:46
  that
• 20:46
  trade
• 20:47
  and
• 20:47
  where
• 20:47
  I
• 20:47
  was
• 20:47
  going.
• 20:48
  So
• 20:48
  I
• 20:48
  just
• 20:48
  want
• 20:49
  one
• 20:49
  of
• 20:49
  them
• 20:49
  just
• 20:49
  give
• 20:50
  a
• 20:50
  little
• 20:50
  insight
• 20:50
  to
• 20:51
  the
• 20:51
  fans
• 20:51
  who've
• 20:53
  been
• 20:53
  around
• 20:54
  for
• 20:54
  a
• 20:54
  long
• 20:54
  time
• 20:54
  and
• 20:55
  maybe
• 20:55
  they'll
• 20:55
  just
• 20:56
  chuckle
• 20:56
  a
• 20:56
  little
• 20:56
  bit,
• 20:56
  laugh
• 20:57
  a
• 20:57
  little
• 20:57
  bit,
• 20:57
  or
• 20:58
  find
• 20:58
  out
• 20:58
  some
• 20:58
  information
• 20:59
  they
• 20:59
  didn't
• 20:59
  know
• 20:59
  before.
• 21:00
  Right.
• 21:00
  What
• 21:00
  I'd
• 21:01
  like
• 21:01
  to
• 21:01
  mention,
• 21:01
  I'm
• 21:02
  not
• 21:02
  going
• 21:02
  to
• 21:02
  give
• 21:02
  away
• 21:03
  the
• 21:03
  story,
• 21:04
  but
• 21:04
  folks
• 21:05
  may
• 21:05
  not
• 21:05
  know
• 21:05
  that
• 21:05
  there
• 21:05
  are
• 21:06
  a
• 21:06
  couple
• 21:06
  of
• 21:06
  members
• 21:07
  of
• 21:07
  the
• 21:07
  69
• 21:08
  Mets
• 21:08
  that
• 21:08
  were
• 21:09
  on
• 21:09
  the
• 21:09
  Dating
• 21:09
  Game
• 21:10
  with
• 21:10
  Jim
• 21:10
  Lang
• 21:11
  back
• 21:11
  in
• 21:11
  the
• 21:12
  day.
• 21:12
  And
• 21:12
  we
• 21:13
  won't,
• 21:13
  we
• 21:13
  won't
• 21:14
  say
• 21:14
  anything
• 21:14
  more
• 21:14
  about
• 21:15
  that
• 21:15
  Art.
• 21:15
  But
• 21:15
  you
• 21:16
  guys
• 21:16
  got
• 21:16
  to
• 21:16
  get
• 21:16
  the
• 21:16
  book
• 21:17
  and
• 21:17
  find
• 21:17
  out
• 21:17
  about
• 21:18
  the
• 21:18
  Mets
• 21:18
  on
• 21:18
  the
• 21:18
  Dating
• 21:19
  Game.
• 21:19
  That's
• 21:19
  a.
• 21:19
  That's
• 21:20
  a.
• 21:20
  Well,
• 21:21
  I've
• 21:21
  never
• 21:21
  let
• 21:21
  those
• 21:22
  guys
• 21:22
  forget
• 21:22
  it,
• 21:22
  especially
• 21:23
  the
• 21:23
  guys
• 21:23
  who
• 21:23
  watch
• 21:24
  the.
• 21:24
  Because
• 21:25
  the
• 21:25
  guy
• 21:25
  that
• 21:25
  won
• 21:26
  would
• 21:26
  be
• 21:26
  the
• 21:26
  least
• 21:26
  of
• 21:27
  the
• 21:27
  three
• 21:27
  that
• 21:27
  I
• 21:27
  think
• 21:28
  should
• 21:28
  have
• 21:29
  won.
• 21:29
  But
• 21:30
  we
• 21:30
  joke
• 21:30
  about
• 21:30
  it,
• 21:31
  laugh
• 21:31
  about
• 21:31
  it,
• 21:31
  but
• 21:32
  those
• 21:33
  are.
• 21:33
  They
• 21:34
  got
• 21:34
  on
• 21:34
  the
• 21:34
  show
• 21:34
  because
• 21:35
  of
• 21:35
  being
• 21:35
  world
• 21:36
  champions.
• 21:36
  So
• 21:37
  it
• 21:38
  all
• 21:38
  came
• 21:38
  together
• 21:39
  for
• 21:39
  us
• 21:39
  and
• 21:40
  we
• 21:40
  share
• 21:41
  those
• 21:41
  moments
• 21:42
  now
• 21:42
  and
• 21:43
  laugh
• 21:43
  about
• 21:44
  it.
• 21:44
  But
• 21:44
  the
• 21:45
  fact
• 21:45
  that
• 21:45
  we
• 21:45
  were
• 21:45
  a
• 21:46
  part
• 21:46
  of
• 21:46
  that
• 21:46
  team,
• 21:46
  I
• 21:46
  think
• 21:47
  is
• 21:47
  so
• 21:47
  special.
• 21:48
  And
• 21:48
  again,
• 21:49
  when
• 21:49
  I
• 21:49
  meet
• 21:49
  people
• 21:50
  who,
• 21:51
  some
• 21:51
  people
• 21:51
  who
• 21:51
  weren't
• 21:52
  even
• 21:52
  born
• 21:52
  who
• 21:52
  know
• 21:52
  about
• 21:53
  that
• 21:53
  team
• 21:53
  from
• 21:53
  their
• 21:53
  parents
• 21:54
  or
• 21:54
  their
• 21:54
  grandparents,
• 21:55
  but
• 21:55
  when
• 21:55
  I
• 21:55
  meet
• 21:56
  people
• 21:56
  who
• 21:56
  were
• 21:57
  around
• 21:57
  at
• 21:57
  the
• 21:57
  time,
• 21:57
  it
• 21:58
  brings
• 21:58
  them
• 21:58
  back
• 21:59
  to
• 21:59
  their
• 21:59
  youth.
• 21:59
  And
• 22:00
  quite
• 22:00
  honestly,
• 22:00
  it
• 22:00
  makes
• 22:01
  me
• 22:01
  feel
• 22:01
  younger,
• 22:01
  too,
• 22:02
  because
• 22:02
  I'm
• 22:02
  able
• 22:02
  to
• 22:03
  reminisce
• 22:03
  with
• 22:03
  these
• 22:04
  fans
• 22:04
  and
• 22:05
  talk
• 22:05
  about
• 22:05
  things
• 22:06
  that
• 22:06
  they
• 22:06
  want
• 22:06
  to
• 22:06
  hear.
• 22:07
  And
• 22:07
  even
• 22:07
  if
• 22:08
  they
• 22:08
  know
• 22:08
  about
• 22:08
  it
• 22:08
  and
• 22:09
  heard
• 22:09
  about
• 22:09
  it
• 22:09
  before,
• 22:10
  they
• 22:10
  relish
• 22:10
  in
• 22:11
  those
• 22:11
  moments.
• 22:11
  And
• 22:11
  it
• 22:12
  brings
• 22:12
  them
• 22:12
  back
• 22:12
  to
• 22:13
  when
• 22:13
  they
• 22:13
  were
• 22:13
  kids,
• 22:14
  when
• 22:14
  their
• 22:14
  parents
• 22:15
  or
• 22:15
  grandparents
• 22:15
  took
• 22:15
  them
• 22:16
  to
• 22:16
  the
• 22:16
  ballpark.
• 22:17
  And
• 22:17
  of
• 22:17
  course,
• 22:17
  then
• 22:18
  they
• 22:18
  became
• 22:19
  adults
• 22:19
  and
• 22:19
  they've
• 22:19
  taken
• 22:20
  kids
• 22:20
  and
• 22:20
  grandkids
• 22:21
  there.
• 22:21
  And
• 22:22
  so
• 22:23
  it's
• 22:23
  such
• 22:23
  a
• 22:23
  special
• 22:24
  time
• 22:24
  for
• 22:24
  me
• 22:24
  to
• 22:24
  be
• 22:25
  able
• 22:25
  to
• 22:25
  reminisce
• 22:26
  with
• 22:26
  fans
• 22:26
  and
• 22:26
  share
• 22:27
  these
• 22:27
  moments
• 22:28
  with
• 22:28
  people,
• 22:28
  because
• 22:29
  it's
• 22:29
  always
• 22:30
  going
• 22:30
  to
• 22:30
  be
• 22:30
  a
• 22:30
  special
• 22:30
  year
• 22:31
  for
• 22:31
  me.
• 22:31
  You
• 22:31
  know,
• 22:31
  bill,
• 22:32
  I
• 22:32
  played
• 22:32
  13
• 22:32
  years
• 22:33
  and
• 22:33
  nobody
• 22:33
  talks
• 22:33
  about
• 22:34
  the
• 22:34
  other
• 22:34
  12
• 22:34
  for
• 22:34
  home
• 22:35
  tested
• 22:35
  purposes.
• 22:36
  And
• 22:36
  so
• 22:37
  I
• 22:37
  understand
• 22:37
  that.
• 22:38
  I
• 22:39
  understand
• 22:39
  that's
• 22:39
  part
• 22:39
  of
• 22:39
  it.
• 22:40
  But
• 22:40
  it's
• 22:41
  quite
• 22:41
  a
• 22:41
  year
• 22:41
  and
• 22:42
  quite
• 22:42
  a
• 22:42
  memory
• 22:42
  for
• 22:42
  me.
• 22:43
  And
• 22:44
  the
• 22:45
  insistence
• 22:46
  on
• 22:46
  mentioning
• 22:46
  this
• 22:47
  by
• 22:47
  people
• 22:47
  and
• 22:48
  keeping
• 22:48
  these
• 22:48
  memories
• 22:49
  out
• 22:49
  in
• 22:49
  front
• 22:50
  of
• 22:50
  you,
• 22:50
  Art,
• 22:51
  probably
• 22:52
  makes
• 22:52
  it
• 22:52
  feel
• 22:52
  that
• 22:53
  it
• 22:53
  wasn't
• 22:53
  that
• 22:53
  long
• 22:54
  ago.
• 22:55
  Well,
• 22:55
  it
• 22:55
  doesn't,
• 22:56
  because
• 22:56
  every
• 22:56
  day
• 22:56
  somebody
• 22:57
  talks
• 22:57
  to
• 22:57
  me
• 22:58
  about
• 22:58
  that
• 22:58
  team.
• 23:00
  It's
• 23:00
  very.
• 23:00
  It's
• 23:00
  interesting.
• 23:01
  As
• 23:01
  I
• 23:02
  mentioned,
• 23:02
  kids
• 23:03
  who
• 23:03
  weren't
• 23:03
  even
• 23:03
  born
• 23:04
  young
• 23:04
  people,
• 23:04
  or
• 23:04
  maybe
• 23:05
  adults
• 23:06
  now
• 23:06
  who
• 23:06
  weren't
• 23:06
  even
• 23:06
  born,
• 23:07
  know
• 23:07
  about
• 23:08
  that
• 23:08
  team
• 23:08
  from
• 23:09
  their
• 23:09
  parents
• 23:09
  and
• 23:09
  their
• 23:09
  grandparents.
• 23:10
  They
• 23:10
  heard
• 23:10
  about
• 23:10
  the
• 23:11
  Black
• 23:11
  Cat
• 23:11
  game.
• 23:12
  They
• 23:12
  heard
• 23:12
  about
• 23:12
  Seaver's
• 23:13
  almost
• 23:13
  perfect
• 23:14
  game.
• 23:14
  They
• 23:14
  heard
• 23:14
  about
• 23:16
  the
• 23:17
  catches
• 23:17
  Ag
• 23:18
  made.
• 23:18
  They
• 23:18
  heard
• 23:19
  about
• 23:20
  Cleon
• 23:21
  getting
• 23:21
  taken
• 23:21
  out
• 23:21
  of
• 23:21
  the
• 23:22
  game
• 23:22
  by
• 23:23
  Gill
• 23:23
  one
• 23:24
  game.
• 23:24
  And
• 23:24
  they
• 23:25
  know
• 23:25
  all
• 23:25
  the
• 23:25
  stories
• 23:28
  and
• 23:28
  some
• 23:28
  of
• 23:28
  them
• 23:28
  have
• 23:28
  been
• 23:29
  exaggerated
• 23:30
  a
• 23:30
  little
• 23:30
  bit.
• 23:30
  But
• 23:31
  the
• 23:31
  reality
• 23:31
  of
• 23:31
  it
• 23:31
  is
• 23:31
  they
• 23:32
  did
• 23:32
  happen.
• 23:33
  And
• 23:33
  for
• 23:33
  me,
• 23:34
  when
• 23:34
  I
• 23:34
  talk
• 23:34
  about
• 23:34
  them,
• 23:35
  it
• 23:35
  just
• 23:35
  brings
• 23:35
  back
• 23:36
  my
• 23:36
  youth.
• 23:36
  And
• 23:37
  when
• 23:37
  they
• 23:38
  tore
• 23:38
  down
• 23:38
  Shay,
• 23:39
  when
• 23:39
  they
• 23:39
  tore
• 23:40
  down
• 23:40
  the
• 23:40
  stadium,
• 23:40
  part
• 23:41
  of
• 23:41
  my
• 23:41
  youth
• 23:41
  was
• 23:41
  taken
• 23:42
  from
• 23:42
  me.
• 23:42
  And
• 23:42
  I
• 23:43
  reminisce
• 23:43
  about
• 23:43
  it.
• 23:43
  I
• 23:44
  think
• 23:44
  about
• 23:44
  being
• 23:44
  at
• 23:45
  that
• 23:45
  ballpark,
• 23:45
  and
• 23:46
  maybe
• 23:46
  it
• 23:46
  wasn't
• 23:47
  the
• 23:47
  best
• 23:47
  ballpark
• 23:48
  in
• 23:49
  baseball,
• 23:49
  but
• 23:49
  it
• 23:49
  was
• 23:50
  certainly
• 23:51
  the
• 23:51
  most
• 23:51
  memorable
• 23:52
  for
• 23:52
  me.
• 23:53
  And
• 23:53
  so
• 23:54
  I
• 23:54
  talk
• 23:54
  about
• 23:55
  those
• 23:55
  things
• 23:56
  and
• 23:56
  those
• 23:56
  things
• 23:56
  will
• 23:57
  always
• 23:57
  be
• 23:57
  important
• 23:57
  to
• 23:58
  me.
• 23:58
  It
• 23:58
  was
• 23:58
  home,
• 23:59
  Art,
• 23:59
  is
• 23:59
  what
• 23:59
  it
• 23:59
  was.
• 24:00
  It
• 24:00
  was
• 24:00
  home
• 24:00
  for
• 24:01
  us.
• 24:01
  Shea
• 24:02
  Stadium.
• 24:02
  And
• 24:03
  Art
• 24:03
  Chamsky's
• 24:04
  with
• 24:04
  us
• 24:04
  tonight.
• 24:05
  Met
• 24:05
  Stories
• 24:06
  I
• 24:06
  Only
• 24:06
  Tell
• 24:07
  My
• 24:07
  Friends.
• 24:07
  A
• 24:07
  new
• 24:07
  book
• 24:08
  from
• 24:08
  Triumph.
• 24:09
  It's
• 24:09
  out
• 24:09
  there.
• 24:10
  It's
• 24:10
  on
• 24:10
  Amazon.
• 24:11
  What
• 24:11
  are
• 24:11
  you.
• 24:11
  What
• 24:11
  else
• 24:11
  are
• 24:12
  you
• 24:12
  up
• 24:12
  to
• 24:12
  these
• 24:12
  days,
• 24:12
  Art?
• 24:13
  Well,
• 24:14
  I'm
• 24:14
  still
• 24:14
  doing
• 24:15
  a
• 24:15
  lot
• 24:15
  of
• 24:15
  personal
• 24:15
  appearances
• 24:16
  and
• 24:18
  this
• 24:18
  coming
• 24:18
  week
• 24:19
  I'm
• 24:20
  speaking

  And
• 24:25
  they

  were
• 24:26
  asked
• 24:26
  me
• 24:26
  to

  then

  I'm

  appearances
• 24:43
  lined

• 24:43
  And
• 24:44
  every

  a

  the

• 24:48
  of

• 24:48
  this

  is
• 24:49
  that
• 24:49
  I
• 24:49
  get
• 24:49
  a
• 24:50
  chance
• 24:50
  to
• 24:50
  talk
• 24:50
  to
• 24:51
  wonderful

• 24:55
  and

  so
• 25:01
  as
• 25:01
  long
• 25:01
  as
• 25:01
  I'm
• 25:01
  able
• 25:02
  to
• 25:02
  do
• 25:02
  it,
• 25:02
  I'm
• 25:02
  going
• 25:02
  to
• 25:02
  be
• 25:03
  out
• 25:03
  there
• 25:03
  talking
• 25:03
  about
• 25:03
  the

• 25:04
  And
• 25:05
  I
• 25:05
  don't
• 25:05
  want.
• 25:06
  I'm
• 25:06
  never
• 25:06
  going
• 25:07
  to
• 25:07
  Let
• 25:07
  that
• 25:07
  year
• 25:08
  be
• 25:08
  forgotten
• 25:09
  because,
• 25:10
  again,
• 25:10
  it
• 25:10
  was
• 25:11
  so
• 25:11
  special
• 25:11
  to
• 25:11
  me
• 25:11
  on
• 25:12
  a
• 25:12
  personal

  level.
• 25:12
  But
• 25:13
  I
• 25:13
  shared
• 25:13
  these
• 25:14
  moments
• 25:14
  with
• 25:14
  my
• 25:14
  friends
• 25:15
  and
• 25:15
  teammates
• 25:15
  and,
• 25:17
  you
• 25:17
  know,
• 25:17
  to
• 25:17
  me,
• 25:18
  I'll
• 25:18
  always
• 25:18
  be
• 25:18
  out
• 25:18
  there
• 25:19
  as
• 25:19
  long
• 25:19
  as
• 25:19
  I'm
• 25:19
  well
• 25:19
  enough
• 25:20
  to
• 25:20
  be
• 25:20
  able
• 25:20
  to
• 25:20
  do
• 25:20
  it.
• 25:21
  Now,
• 25:21
  I
• 25:21
  want
• 25:22
  to
• 25:22
  ask
• 25:22
  you
• 25:22
  quickly,
• 25:22
  before
• 25:23
  we
• 25:23
  go,
• 25:23
  Art,
• 25:24
  Kenny
• 25:25
  Boswell,
• 25:26
  he's
• 25:27
  not
• 25:27
  around
• 25:27
  as
• 25:27
  much
• 25:28
  as
• 25:28
  we'd
• 25:28
  like
• 25:28
  him
• 25:28
  to
• 25:28
  be.
• 25:29
  People
• 25:29
  ask
• 25:29
  me,
• 25:29
  what
• 25:30
  happened
• 25:30
  to
• 25:30
  Ken
• 25:30
  Boswell.
• 25:31
  I
• 25:31
  know
• 25:31
  he
• 25:31
  was
• 25:31
  your
• 25:32
  roommate.
• 25:32
  How's
• 25:33
  Kenny
• 25:33
  doing?
• 25:34
  He's
• 25:34
  doing
• 25:35
  good.
• 25:35
  He's
• 25:35
  down
• 25:35
  in
• 25:35
  Austin,
• 25:36
  Texas.
• 25:37
  He's
• 25:37
  one
• 25:37
  of
• 25:37
  these
• 25:38
  guys
• 25:38
  that
• 25:38
  he's
• 25:39
  gotten
• 25:39
  away
• 25:39
  from
• 25:39
  the
• 25:40
  game,
• 25:40
  Bill.
• 25:41
  I
• 25:41
  think
• 25:41
  he
• 25:41
  just
• 25:41
  wanted
• 25:42
  to
• 25:42
  be
• 25:42
  away
• 25:42
  from
• 25:42
  it.
• 25:43
  He
• 25:43
  doesn't
• 25:44
  come
• 25:44
  back
• 25:44
  to
• 25:44
  New
• 25:44
  York,
• 25:45
  but
• 25:45
  I
• 25:45
  talk
• 25:45
  to
• 25:45
  him
• 25:46
  all
• 25:46
  the
• 25:47
  time
• 25:47
  and
• 25:47
  we
• 25:47
  reminisce
• 25:48
  a
• 25:48
  little
• 25:48
  bit.
• 25:49
  We've
• 25:49
  got
• 25:49
  a
• 25:49
  great
• 25:50
  friendship.
• 25:50
  But
• 25:51
  I
• 25:51
  guess
• 25:51
  he
• 25:51
  just,
• 25:52
  you
• 25:52
  know,
• 25:52
  some
• 25:52
  guys
• 25:53
  get
• 25:53
  away
• 25:53
  from
• 25:53
  him
• 25:53
  and
• 25:53
  they
• 25:54
  don't.
• 25:54
  They
• 25:54
  don't
• 25:54
  really
• 25:54
  want
• 25:55
  to
• 25:55
  come
• 25:56
  back.
• 25:56
  So
• 25:57
  in
• 25:57
  his
• 25:57
  case,
• 25:57
  that's
• 25:57
  the
• 25:58
  situation.
• 25:58
  I
• 25:58
  wish
• 25:59
  he
• 25:59
  would,
• 25:59
  but
• 26:01
  everybody
• 26:01
  else
• 26:01
  who's
• 26:02
  around
• 26:02
  seems
• 26:02
  to
• 26:02
  be
• 26:02
  okay.
• 26:03
  A
• 26:03
  couple
• 26:04
  guys
• 26:04
  are.
• 26:05
  My
• 26:05
  good
• 26:05
  friend
• 26:05
  Ron
• 26:06
  Taylor
• 26:06
  is
• 26:07
  not
• 26:07
  doing
• 26:07
  well.
• 26:08
  He's
• 26:08
  in
• 26:08
  a
• 26:08
  home
• 26:09
  up
• 26:09
  in
• 26:09
  Toronto.
• 26:10
  And
• 26:11
  Gary
• 26:11
  Gentry,
• 26:12
  I
• 26:12
  can't
• 26:12
  seem
• 26:12
  to
• 26:13
  track
• 26:13
  down
• 26:13
  a
• 26:13
  little
• 26:13
  bit.
• 26:14
  I'm
• 26:14
  not
• 26:14
  sure
• 26:14
  where,
• 26:15
  but
• 26:16
  what's
• 26:16
  happened
• 26:16
  with
• 26:17
  him.
• 26:17
  But
• 26:17
  everybody
• 26:18
  else
• 26:18
  that's
• 26:19
  around,
• 26:19
  I
• 26:19
  try
• 26:19
  to
• 26:20
  stay
• 26:20
  in
• 26:20
  touch
• 26:20
  with
• 26:21
  and
• 26:22
  keep
• 26:23
  in
• 26:23
  touch,
• 26:23
  and
• 26:24
  every
• 26:24
  time
• 26:24
  I
• 26:24
  talk
• 26:25
  to
• 26:25
  them,
• 26:25
  it
• 26:25
  just
• 26:26
  makes
• 26:26
  me
• 26:26
  feel
• 26:26
  good
• 26:26
  that
• 26:27
  they're
• 26:27
  still
• 26:27
  around
• 26:27
  and,
• 26:28
  you
• 26:28
  know,
• 26:29
  it's
• 26:29
  always
• 26:29
  going
• 26:30
  to
• 26:30
  be
• 26:30
  special,
• 26:30
  guys,
• 26:31
  that's
• 26:31
  for
• 26:31
  sure.
• 26:31
  Oh,
• 26:32
  definitely.
• 26:32
  To
• 26:33
  all
• 26:33
  of
• 26:33
  us,
• 26:33
  too,
• 26:34
  Art.
• 26:34
  I'd
• 26:35
  like
• 26:35
  to
• 26:35
  wish
• 26:35
  all
• 26:35
  the
• 26:36
  best
• 26:36
  to
• 26:36
  you
• 26:36
  and
• 26:36
  your
• 26:36
  family.
• 26:38
  Stay
• 26:38
  well,
• 26:38
  Art.
• 26:39
  You're
• 26:39
  welcome
• 26:39
  back
• 26:39
  anytime.
• 26:40
  It's
• 26:40
  been
• 26:40
  an
• 26:40
  honor
• 26:41
  and
• 26:41
  a
• 26:41
  pleasure
• 26:41
  to
• 26:42
  talk
• 26:42
  to
• 26:42
  you
• 26:42
  tonight.
• 26:43
  It's
• 26:43
  great
• 26:43
  that
• 26:44
  you
• 26:44
  took
• 26:44
  some
• 26:44
  time
• 26:44
  out
• 26:45
  of
• 26:45
  your
• 26:45
  Sunday
• 26:45
  night
• 26:45
  to

• 26:48
  I
• 26:48
  want
• 26:48
  to
• 26:48
  mention
• 26:48
  again
• 26:49
  the
• 26:49
  book,
• 26:50
  folks.
• 26:50
  It's
• 26:50
  titled
• 26:51
  Met
• 26:51
  Stories
• 26:52
  I
• 26:52
  Only
• 26:53
  Tell
• 26:53
  My
• 26:53
  Friends.
• 26:54
  Well,
• 26:55
  Bill,
• 26:55
  just
• 26:56
  let
• 26:56
  me
• 26:56
  mention,
• 26:57
  if
• 26:57
  anybody's
• 26:57
  interested,
• 26:58
  they
• 26:59
  can
• 26:59
  get
• 26:59
  it
• 26:59
  at
• 26:59
  Amazon.
• 27:00
  They
• 27:00
  can
• 27:00
  get
• 27:00
  it
• 27:00
  through
• 27:01
  Triumph
• 27:01
  Press,
• 27:02
  our
• 27:02
  regular
• 27:03
  bookstores.
• 27:03
  And
• 27:03
  also,
• 27:04
  if
• 27:04
  they
• 27:04
  want
• 27:04
  one
• 27:05
  with
• 27:06
  an
• 27:06
  autograph,
• 27:07
  they
• 27:07
  can
• 27:07
  go
• 27:07
  to
• 27:08
  my
• 27:08
  website
• 27:09
  because
• 27:09
  that'll
• 27:09
  guarantee
• 27:10
  that
• 27:10
  I'll
• 27:11
  have
• 27:11
  an
• 27:11
  autograph.
• 27:11
  Otherwise
• 27:12
  they'd
• 27:12
  have
• 27:12
  to
• 27:12
  come
• 27:13
  to
• 27:13
  wherever
• 27:13
  I'm
• 27:14
  speaking
• 27:14
  or
• 27:14
  talking
• 27:15
  about
• 27:15
  the
• 27:15
  book.
• 27:15
  But
• 27:15
  they
• 27:16
  can
• 27:16
  go
• 27:16
  to
• 27:16
  my
• 27:16
  website,
• 27:16
  artshamsky.com,
• 27:17
  if
• 27:18
  they're
• 27:18
  interested.
• 27:18
  I
• 27:18
  was
• 27:18
  just
• 27:19
  going
• 27:19
  to
• 27:19
  mention
• 27:19
  that,
• 27:19
  Art.
• 27:20
  Yeah.
• 27:20
  If
• 27:20
  you
• 27:20
  guys
• 27:20
  want
• 27:20

• 27:22
  which
• 27:22
  of
• 27:22
  course
• 27:22
  you
• 27:22
  should,
• 27:23
  artshamsky.com
• 27:24
  you'll
• 27:25
  get
• 27:25
  one
• 27:25
  from
• 27:26
  Art
• 27:26
  right
• 27:26
  there.
• 27:27
  And
• 27:27
  thanks
• 27:28
  again,
• 27:28
  Art,
• 27:29
  and
• 27:29
  we
• 27:29
  hope
• 27:29
  to
• 27:29
  speak
• 27:30
  to
• 27:30
  you
• 27:30
  again
• 27:30
  real
• 27:30
  soon.
• 27:31

  Great

  Phil.
• 30:19

  you

  Great

  us.
• 30:22
  Now,
• 30:22
  the
• 30:23
  basic
• 30:23
  point
• 30:24
  of
• 30:24
  the
• 30:24
  book,
• 30:25
  kind
• 30:25
  of
• 30:25
  the
• 30:26
  evolution
• 30:27
  of
• 30:27
  Babylon's

  the

• 30:33
  the
• 30:33
  rivalries
• 30:34
  with
• 30:34
  different
• 30:34
  schools
• 30:35
  like
• 30:35
  Amityville.
• 30:37
  The
• 30:37
  deeper
• 30:37
  message,
• 30:38
  though,
• 30:39
  is
• 30:39
  kind
• 30:39
  of
• 30:40
  important
• 30:41
  is
• 30:41
  relationships.
• 30:42
  And
• 30:43
  we'll
• 30:43
  bring
• 30:43
  this
• 30:44
  out
• 30:44
  during
• 30:44
  our
• 30:44
  discussion.
• 30:45
  And
• 30:46
  you
• 30:46
  can
• 30:46
  see,
• 30:47
  folks
• 30:47
  through
• 30:48
  the
• 30:48
  book,
• 30:49
  how
• 30:49
  it's
• 30:49
  kind
• 30:50
  of
• 30:50
  like
• 30:50
  a
• 30:50
  stand
• 30:51
  by
• 30:51
  me
• 30:52
  said
• 30:52
  on
• 30:52
  the
• 30:52
  basketball
• 30:53
  court.
• 30:53
  Now,
• 30:54
  before
• 30:55
  we
• 30:55
  get
• 30:55
  to
• 30:56
  the
• 30:56
  book,
• 30:56
  guys,
• 30:56
  I
• 30:57
  want
• 30:57
  to
• 30:57
  ask
• 30:57
  you.
• 30:58
  I
• 30:58
  know,
• 30:58
  Tom,
• 30:59
  your
• 30:59
  guy
• 31:00
  was
• 31:00
  Walt
• 31:00
  Frazier,
• 31:01
  your
• 31:01
  basketball
• 31:01
  hero,
• 31:02
  correct?
• 31:03
  Absolutely.
• 31:04
  That
• 31:04
  was
• 31:04
  the
• 31:04
  guy
• 31:05
  who
• 31:05
  I
• 31:05
  started
• 31:05
  with
• 31:05
  before
• 31:06
  I
• 31:06
  started
• 31:06
  idolizing
• 31:07
  Glenn.
• 31:09
  Yeah,
• 31:10
  right.
• 31:10
  We
• 31:10
  all
• 31:10
  did.
• 31:11
  Now,
• 31:11
  why
• 31:12
  Clyde?
• 31:14
  Because
• 31:14
  he
• 31:14
  was
• 31:14
  a
• 31:15
  guard.
• 31:15
  He
• 31:15
  moved
• 31:16
  so
• 31:16
  smooth,
• 31:16
  and
• 31:17
  he
• 31:17
  kind
• 31:18
  of
• 31:18
  epitomized
• 31:18
  New
• 31:19
  York,
• 31:19
  too.
• 31:19
  Just,
• 31:20
  you
• 31:20
  know,
• 31:20
  I
• 31:20
  was
• 31:21
  very
• 31:21
  New
• 31:21
  Yorkish.
• 31:21
  My
• 31:22
  father
• 31:22
  was
• 31:22
  very
• 31:22
  New
• 31:22
  Yorkish
• 31:23
  growing
• 31:23
  up.
• 31:23
  And
• 31:25
  the
• 31:25
  way
• 31:25
  he
• 31:25
  moved
• 31:26
  so
• 31:26
  cool
• 31:26
  and
• 31:27
  so
• 31:27
  smoothly,
• 31:27
  it
• 31:28
  was
• 31:28
  just.
• 31:29
  It
• 31:29
  just
• 31:29
  made
• 31:29
  it
• 31:30
  look
• 31:30
  like,
• 31:30
  you
• 31:30
  know,
• 31:31
  kind
• 31:31
  of
• 31:31
  so
• 31:31
  easy
• 31:32
  and
• 31:32
  such
• 31:32
  poetry.
• 31:33
  It
• 31:33
  was
• 31:33
  phenomenal
• 31:34
  to
• 31:34
  watch
• 31:34
  him.
• 31:35
  That
• 31:35
  is
• 31:35
  for
• 31:36
  sure,
• 31:36
  Tom.
• 31:36
  And
• 31:36
  beat
• 31:36
  the
• 31:37
  Celtics.
• 31:38
  Yeah,
• 31:38
  right.
• 31:39
  Yeah.
• 31:40
  Now,
• 31:40
  Glenn,
• 31:40
  who
• 31:40
  was
• 31:40
  your
• 31:41
  hero
• 31:42
  growing
• 31:42
  up?
• 31:44
  I
• 31:44
  also
• 31:45
  am
• 31:46
  a
• 31:46
  Clyde
• 31:47
  Walt
• 31:47
  Frazier
• 31:48
  fan.
• 31:49
  And
• 31:49
  going
• 31:49
  into

• 31:50
  senior
• 31:51

• 31:56

• 31:57
  Oh,
• 31:58
  boy.
• 31:58
  Yeah,
• 31:59
  they
• 31:59
  played
• 32:00
  at
• 32:00
  that
• 32:01
  camp.
• 32:02
  I

• 32:05
  And
• 32:06
  the
• 32:06

• 32:06

• 32:06
  the
• 32:07
  two
• 32:07

• 32:07
  before
• 32:07
  that,
• 32:08
  Rutgers
• 32:09

• 32:09

• 32:10
  it
• 32:10
  to
• 32:10
  the
• 32:10
  Final
• 32:11
  Four.
• 32:12
  So
• 32:13
  all
• 32:13
  the
• 32:13
  guys
• 32:13
  from
• 32:14
  New

  the

• 32:21
  all
• 32:22
  the

• 32:24
  and
• 32:24
  Walt
• 32:24
  Frazier.
• 32:25
  And
• 32:25
  I
• 32:25
  was
• 32:26
  the
• 32:26
  only
• 32:26

• 32:26
  school
• 32:27
  player
• 32:27
  they
• 32:27
  let
• 32:28
  play.
• 32:28
  And
• 32:29
  after
• 32:29
  my
• 32:30
  first
• 32:30
  week,
• 32:31
  my
• 32:31
  idol,
• 32:31
  Walt
• 32:32
  Frazier,
• 32:32
  said,
• 32:33
  you
• 32:34
  know,
• 32:34
  you're
• 32:34
  a
• 32:34
  natural
• 32:35
  passer.
• 32:36
  Would
• 32:36
  you
• 32:36
  like
• 32:36
  to
• 32:37
  play
• 32:37
  another
• 32:37
  week
• 32:38
  with
• 32:38
  us?
• 32:38
  And
• 32:39
  I
• 32:39
  said,
• 32:39
  of
• 32:40
  course.
• 32:41
  And
• 32:42
  that
• 32:42
  camp
• 32:43
  changed
• 32:43
  my
• 32:44
  life
• 32:46
  in
• 32:46
  that
• 32:48
  I
• 32:48
  was
• 32:48
  a
• 32:48
  camper.
• 32:49
  I
• 32:49
  used
• 32:49
  to
• 32:49
  go
• 32:49
  to
• 32:49
  five
• 32:50
  star
• 32:50
  basketball
• 32:51
  camp.
• 32:51
  And
• 32:52
  there
• 32:52
  was
• 32:52
  a
• 32:52
  guy
• 32:53
  who
• 32:53
  played
• 32:53
  with
• 32:53
  the
• 32:54
  best
• 32:54
  point
• 32:54
  guard
• 32:54
  on
• 32:55
  Long
• 32:55
  island,
• 32:55
  in
• 32:55
  my
• 32:56
  opinion,
• 32:57
  Foots
• 32:57
  Walker,
• 32:58
  who
• 32:59
  won
• 33:00
  61
• 33:00
  games
• 33:01
  in
• 33:01
  a
• 33:01
  row
• 33:01
  from
• 33:01
  Southampton.
• 33:03
  His
• 33:04
  back
• 33:04
  coordinate
• 33:05
  was
• 33:05
  a
• 33:05
  guy
• 33:06
  named
• 33:06
  Edmonds.
• 33:07
  And
• 33:07
  we
• 33:07
  kept
• 33:08
  going
• 33:08
  to
• 33:09
  camps
• 33:10
  week
• 33:10
  after
• 33:11
  week.
• 33:11
  He
• 33:12
  was
• 33:12
  four
• 33:12
  years
• 33:13
  older,
• 33:13
  so
• 33:13
  he
• 33:13
  wasn't
• 33:14
  going
• 33:14
  to
• 33:14
  say,
• 33:14
  hey,
• 33:14
  kid,
• 33:14
  where
• 33:15
  are
• 33:15
  you
• 33:15
  going
• 33:15
  next
• 33:15
  week?
• 33:16
  But
• 33:16
  we
• 33:16
  just
• 33:16
  ended
• 33:17
  up
• 33:17
  going
• 33:18
  all
• 33:18
  those
• 33:19
  weeks.
• 33:20
  And
• 33:20
  at
• 33:20
  the
• 33:21
  last
• 33:22
  day
• 33:22
  of
• 33:23
  camp,
• 33:23
  the
• 33:23
  second
• 33:24
  week,
• 33:25
  I'm
• 33:25
  walking
• 33:26
  out
• 33:26
  of
• 33:27
  the
• 33:27
  locker
• 33:28
  room
• 33:29
  and
• 33:29
  I
• 33:29
  hear
• 33:30
  somebody
• 33:31
  crying.
• 33:32
  I
• 33:32
  said,
• 33:33
  it's
• 33:33
  none
• 33:33
  of
• 33:33
  my
• 33:33
  business.
• 33:34
  And
• 33:34
  then
• 33:34
  as
• 33:34
  I
• 33:35
  got
• 33:35
  towards
• 33:35
  the
• 33:35
  door,
• 33:36
  they
• 33:36
  were
• 33:36
  bawling.
• 33:37
  I
• 33:37
  said,
• 33:38
  someone
• 33:38
  could
• 33:38
  be
• 33:38
  hurt.
• 33:39
  So
• 33:39
  I
• 33:39
  walked
• 33:39
  over
• 33:40
  and
• 33:41
  here
• 33:41
  was
• 33:41
  this
• 33:41
  guy
• 33:42
  named
• 33:42
  Edmonds.
• 33:43
  And
• 33:43
  I
• 33:44
  said
• 33:44
  to
• 33:44
  him,
• 33:45
  what's
• 33:45
  wrong?
• 33:46
  He
• 33:46
  said,
• 33:46
  next
• 33:46
  week
• 33:47
  I'm
• 33:47
  going
• 33:47
  for
• 33:47
  my
• 33:48
  tryout
• 33:49
  with
• 33:49
  the
• 33:49
  Atlantic
• 33:50
  Hawks
• 33:50
  to
• 33:51
  become
• 33:51
  a
• 33:51
  pro.
• 33:53
  I
• 33:53
  said,
• 33:53
  why
• 33:53
  are
• 33:53
  you
• 33:54
  crying?
• 33:54
  I
• 33:54
  Said
• 33:54
  that's
• 33:55
  what
• 33:55
  we
• 33:55
  work
• 33:55
  for.
• 33:56
  He's
• 33:56
  going
• 33:56
  to
• 33:56
  do
• 33:56
  well.
• 33:57
  He
• 33:58
  said,
• 33:58
  but
• 33:58
  if
• 33:58
  I
• 33:58
  don't
• 33:59
  make
• 33:59
  it,
• 34:00
  I
• 34:01
  don't
• 34:01
  know
• 34:01
  what
• 34:01
  I'm
• 34:01
  going
• 34:01
  to
• 34:02
  do.
• 34:02
  I
• 34:02
  don't
• 34:03
  make
• 34:03
  it,
• 34:03
  I
• 34:03
  don't
• 34:03
  know
• 34:03
  what
• 34:04
  I'm
• 34:04
  going
• 34:04
  to
• 34:04
  do.
• 34:04
  And
• 34:04
  he's
• 34:04
  crying
• 34:05
  and
• 34:06
  I'm
• 34:06
  like,
• 34:07
  I'm
• 34:07
  like,
• 34:08
  what
• 34:09
  did
• 34:09
  you
• 34:09
  study?
• 34:10
  He
• 34:10
  said,
• 34:10
  phys
• 34:11
  A.
• 34:11
  But
• 34:11
  he
• 34:11
  said,
• 34:11
  you
• 34:12
  don't
• 34:12
  understand.
• 34:13
  And
• 34:14
  I
• 34:14
  was
• 34:14
  like,
• 34:15
  I
• 34:16
  understand.
• 34:16
  You
• 34:17
  look
• 34:17
  a
• 34:17
  wreck.
• 34:18
  And
• 34:18
  I
• 34:19
  don't
• 34:19
  have
• 34:19
  a
• 34:19
  plan
• 34:19
  B
• 34:20
  either.
• 34:21
  And
• 34:21
  it
• 34:22
  really
• 34:22
  changed
• 34:23
  my
• 34:23
  life
• 34:24
  and
• 34:24
  that
• 34:24
  I
• 34:24
  was
• 34:25
  started
• 34:25
  thinking
• 34:25
  when
• 34:26
  I
• 34:26
  was
• 34:26
  going
• 34:26
  on
• 34:26
  recruiting
• 34:27
  trips
• 34:28
  and
• 34:28
  I
• 34:28
  had
• 34:29
  over
• 34:29
  100
• 34:29
  scholarships,
• 34:31
  it
• 34:31
  was
• 34:31
  like,
• 34:31
  well,
• 34:32
  if
• 34:32
  I'm
• 34:32
  not
• 34:32
  a
• 34:32
  pro,
• 34:33
  what
• 34:33
  will
• 34:33
  you
• 34:33
  do
• 34:34
  for
• 34:34
  me?
• 34:35
  And
• 34:35
  that's
• 34:35
  where
• 34:36
  I
• 34:36
  met
• 34:38
  Iono
• 34:38
  College
• 34:39
  president,
• 34:40
  this
• 34:40
  unknown
• 34:41
  coach
• 34:41
  named
• 34:41
  Jim
• 34:42
  Valvano.
• 34:43
  And
• 34:43
  that's
• 34:43
  when
• 34:44
  they
• 34:45
  were
• 34:45
  one
• 34:45
  of
• 34:45
  the
• 34:45
  worst
• 34:46
  Division
• 34:46

• 34:46

• 34:47
  in
• 34:48
  America
• 34:49
  at

• 34:53
  playing
• 34:54
  no.
• 34:54
  1.
• 34:55
  And
• 34:56
  so
• 34:56
  I
• 34:56
  went
• 34:56
  there
• 34:58
  and
• 34:59
  the
• 34:59
  big
• 35:00

• 35:00
  basketball
• 35:01
  program,
• 35:01
  its
• 35:02

• 35:04
  is
• 35:05
  the

• 35:09
  because
• 35:09
  it
• 35:09
  was
• 35:10
  through
• 35:10
  Babylon
• 35:11
  coach
• 35:12
  Roy
• 35:12
  Coble
• 35:13
  the
• 35:14
  dominance.
• 35:15
  We
• 35:15
  are
• 35:15
  the
• 35:15
  fourth
• 35:17
  biggest
• 35:17
  dynasty
• 35:19
  in
• 35:19
  the
• 35:19
  history
• 35:19
  of
• 35:20
  Long
• 35:20
  Island.
• 35:21
  38
• 35:21
  games
• 35:22
  in
• 35:22
  a
• 35:22

• 35:23
  But
• 35:23
  unlike
• 35:24
  the
• 35:25
  other
• 35:26
  champions,
• 35:26
  the
• 35:27
  other
• 35:27

• 35:29
  Southampton
• 35:30
  only
• 35:31
  played
• 35:31
  Suffolk
• 35:32
  County.
• 35:32
  They
• 35:32
  wanted
• 35:33
  back
• 35:33
  to
• 35:33
  back
• 35:34
  to
• 35:34
  back
• 35:35
  Mitch
• 35:35
  Kupchak,
• 35:36
  Suffolk
• 35:36

• 35:37
  back
• 35:38
  to
• 35:38
  back.
• 35:39
  Brentwood,
• 35:40
  Beaver
• 35:41
  Smith.
• 35:41
  Yeah,
• 35:41
  Brentwood,
• 35:42
  Beaver
• 35:42
  Smith
• 35:43
  from
• 35:43
  Southside
• 35:44
  NASA
• 35:45
  back
• 35:45
  to
• 35:45
  back.
• 35:46
  The
• 35:47
  only
• 35:48
  territorial
• 35:49

• 35:51
  was
• 35:51
  the
• 35:51

• 35:54
  where
• 35:54
  the
• 35:54

• 35:55

• 35:55
  Suffolk
• 35:56

• 35:58
  at
• 35:59
  the
• 35:59

• 36:01
  So
• 36:01
  the
• 36:01
  Babylon
• 36:02

• 36:03
  prior
• 36:03
  to

• 36:07
  back
• 36:07
  Long
• 36:08

• 36:09
  No
• 36:10
  one
• 36:10

• 36:10
  ever
• 36:11
  accomplished
• 36:12
  that
• 36:12
  before.
• 36:13
  And
• 36:14
  that's
• 36:15
  why
• 36:15
  I
• 36:16
  argue
• 36:17
  that
• 36:17
  we
• 36:18
  are
• 36:18
  the
• 36:19
  best
• 36:19

• 36:20
  in

• 36:21
  of
• 36:21

• 36:22
  because
• 36:22
  we

• 36:23

• 36:24
  up
• 36:24
  until
• 36:25
  that
• 36:25
  point
• 36:26
  that
• 36:26
  would
• 36:26
  go
• 36:27
  on
• 36:27
  and
• 36:27
  to
• 36:28
  beat

• 36:34

• 36:37
  Charles,
• 36:38
  as
• 36:39
  well
• 36:39
  as
• 36:39
  beating
• 36:40
  Mount
• 36:40

• 36:41
  I

• 36:42
  team.
• 36:43
  So
• 36:44
  what
• 36:44
  Tom
• 36:44
  has
• 36:45
  written
• 36:45
  about
• 36:46
  is
• 36:47
  really
• 36:47
  a
• 36:47
  very
• 36:47
  unique
• 36:48
  history.
• 36:50
  And
• 36:51
  if
• 36:51
  I
• 36:52
  could
• 36:52
  go
• 36:52
  on
• 36:52
  just
• 36:52
  to
• 36:53
  say
• 36:53
  this,
• 36:53
  the
• 36:53
  Babylon
• 36:54
  Panthers
• 36:55
  and
• 36:56
  its
• 36:56
  prodigy.
• 36:57
  Because
• 36:58
  Babylon
• 36:59
  won
• 37:00
  the
• 37:01
  1975
• 37:02
  Suffolk
• 37:03
  County,
• 37:05
  Babylon
• 37:06
  won
• 37:06
  the
• 37:06
  1976
• 37:08
  County
• 37:09
  Championships
• 37:11
  and
• 37:11
  then
• 37:12
  North
• 37:13
  Babylon
• 37:13
  won
• 37:14
  the
• 37:15
  Suffolk
• 37:15
  county
• 37:16
  championship
• 37:17
  and
• 37:18
  then
• 37:18
  West
• 37:19
  Babylon
• 37:19
  won
• 37:20
  the
• 37:21
  county
• 37:21
  championship.
• 37:23
  And
• 37:24
  then
• 37:24
  you
• 37:24
  had
• 37:25
  all
• 37:25
  of
• 37:25
  the
• 37:26
  top
• 37:26
  players
• 37:27
  on
• 37:27
  Long
• 37:27
  island
• 37:28
  going
• 37:28
  to
• 37:28
  play
• 37:29
  for
• 37:29
  Jim
• 37:29
  Valvano
• 37:30
  who
• 37:31
  was
• 37:31
  then
• 37:31
  when
• 37:32
  I
• 37:32
  met
• 37:32
  him
• 37:32
  was
• 37:33
  a
• 37:33
  head
• 37:33
  coach
• 37:33
  with
• 37:34
  a
• 37:34
  35,
• 37:34
  35
• 37:35
  record.
• 37:36
  No
• 37:37
  major
• 37:37
  upsets
• 37:39
  until
• 37:39
  Kevin
• 37:40
  Hamilton
• 37:41
  from
• 37:41
  North
• 37:41
  Babylon
• 37:42
  or
• 37:42
  Long
• 37:42
  Island.
• 37:44
  We
• 37:45
  had
• 37:45
  Mike
• 37:45
  Palmer
• 37:46
  parade
• 37:47
  all
• 37:47
  American
• 37:48
  from
• 37:48
  St.
• 37:48
  Agnes,
• 37:50
  also
• 37:51
  ACC
• 37:51
  all
• 37:52
  rookie
• 37:52
  team.
• 37:53
  We
• 37:53
  had
• 37:53
  six,
• 37:54
  eight
• 37:54
  Deer
• 37:55
  park
• 37:56
  all
• 37:57
  star,
• 37:57
  Alex
• 37:58
  Middleton,
• 37:59
  Holy
• 38:00
  family.
• 38:01
  He
• 38:01
  came
• 38:01
  there
• 38:02
  and
• 38:02
  then
• 38:02
  you
• 38:03
  had,
• 38:03
  of
• 38:03
  course,
• 38:05
  the
• 38:05
  greatest
• 38:06
  player
• 38:06
  in
• 38:06
  history,
• 38:07
  Jeff
• 38:07
  Newlin
• 38:08
  Wallow,
• 38:10
  who
• 38:10
  said
• 38:11
  he
• 38:11
  came
• 38:11
  to
• 38:11
  play
• 38:11
  with
• 38:12
  me.
• 38:13
  Nice.
• 38:13
  Glenn
• 38:13
  Vickers.
• 38:15
  Leave
• 38:16
  some
• 38:16
  suspense
• 38:16
  for
• 38:16
  the
• 38:16
  book.
• 38:19
  You're
• 38:19
  giving
• 38:20
  away
• 38:20
  the
• 38:20
  farm
• 38:20
  here,
• 38:21
  Glenn.
• 38:22
  Yeah,
• 38:22
  but
• 38:25
  it's
• 38:25
  all
• 38:25
  traced
• 38:26
  back
• 38:26
  to
• 38:26
  the
• 38:27
  year
• 38:27
  that
• 38:27
  Tom
• 38:28
  has
• 38:29
  written
• 38:29
  about,
• 38:30
  right?
• 38:31
  And
• 38:31
  that's
• 38:31
  a
• 38:32
  direct
• 38:32
  line
• 38:32
  to
• 38:33
  Jim
• 38:33
  Valvano
• 38:34
  to
• 38:34
  NC
• 38:34
  State,
• 38:35
  direct
• 38:36
  line
• 38:36
  to
• 38:36
  all
• 38:36
  these
• 38:37
  players
• 38:37
  going
• 38:37
  there
• 38:38
  having
• 38:39
  to
• 38:39
  do
• 38:39
  with
• 38:39
  the
• 38:40
  Babylon
• 38:40
  Panthers
• 38:41
  of
• 38:42
  1975
• 38:44
  that
• 38:44
  Tom
• 38:45
  has
• 38:45
  written
• 38:45
  about.
• 38:46
  Right?
• 38:46
  That
• 38:47
  is
• 38:47
  accurate
• 38:48
  and
• 38:48
  100%
• 38:49
  true.
• 38:49
  Glenn
• 38:50
  I
• 38:50
  want
• 38:50
  to
• 38:50
  ask
• 38:50
  Tom,
• 38:51
  what
• 38:52
  drove
• 38:52
  you
• 38:52
  to
• 38:52
  write
• 38:52
  this
• 38:53
  book
• 38:53
  about
• 38:53
  74,
• 38:54
  75
• 38:55
  now,
• 38:56
  after
• 38:56
  all
• 38:56
  this
• 38:56
  time?
• 38:57
  Tom
• 38:58
  well,
• 38:58
  a
• 38:58
  couple
• 38:58
  of
• 38:59
  things.
• 38:59
  One,
• 38:59
  it's
• 38:59
  the
• 39:00
  50th
• 39:00
  anniversary
• 39:01
  of
• 39:01
  that
• 39:01
  title,
• 39:02
  and
• 39:02
  there's
• 39:02
  been
• 39:03
  little
• 39:03
  bits
• 39:03
  of
• 39:03
  scuttlebutt
• 39:04
  on
• 39:04
  Facebook
• 39:04
  and
• 39:05
  things
• 39:05
  about.
• 39:06
  I
• 39:06
  was
• 39:06
  looking
• 39:06
  at
• 39:07
  the
• 39:07
  class
• 39:08
  actually
• 39:08
  before
• 39:08
  Glenn,
• 39:09
  since
• 39:09
  Glenn
• 39:09
  was
• 39:09
  a
• 39:09
  junior
• 39:10
  that
• 39:10
  year,
• 39:10
  about
• 39:11
  getting
• 39:11
  a
• 39:12
  reunion
• 39:12
  get
• 39:12
  together.
• 39:13
  And
• 39:13
  I've
• 39:14
  always
• 39:14
  wanted
• 39:14
  to.
• 39:15
  I've
• 39:15
  always
• 39:15
  wanted
• 39:15
  to
• 39:16
  write
• 39:16
  a
• 39:16
  story
• 39:16
  like
• 39:17
  this.
• 39:17
  You
• 39:17
  know,
• 39:17
  I'd
• 39:17
  go
• 39:18
  see
• 39:18
  movies
• 39:19
  like
• 39:19
  Hoosiers,
• 39:20
  you
• 39:20
  know,
• 39:21
  Friday
• 39:21
  Night
• 39:21
  Lights.
• 39:22
  I
• 39:22
  read
• 39:22
  the
• 39:22
  book
• 39:23
  the
• 39:23
  Boys
• 39:24
  in
• 39:24
  the
• 39:24
  Boat,
• 39:24
  and
• 39:24
  I
• 39:25
  always
• 39:25
  love
• 39:25
  these,
• 39:25
  you
• 39:26
  know,
• 39:26
  underdog
• 39:27
  champion
• 39:28
  stories
• 39:28
  that
• 39:28
  kind
• 39:28
  of
• 39:29
  build
• 39:29
  as
• 39:29
  you
• 39:29
  go
• 39:29
  along.
• 39:30
  You
• 39:30
  know,
• 39:30
  you
• 39:30
  start
• 39:30
  out
• 39:30
  and
• 39:31
  it's
• 39:31
  first,
• 39:31
  like,
• 39:31
  you
• 39:32
  know,
• 39:32
  we're
• 39:32
  going
• 39:32
  to
• 39:32
  put
• 39:32
  two
• 39:33
  wins
• 39:33
  together.
• 39:33
  And
• 39:33
  then
• 39:34
  it's
• 39:34
  like,
• 39:34
  hey,
• 39:35
  we
• 39:35
  got
• 39:35
  a
• 39:35
  little
• 39:35
  bit
• 39:35
  of
• 39:35
  a
• 39:35
  run
• 39:36
  going
• 39:36
  here.
• 39:36
  And
• 39:36
  then
• 39:36
  it's
• 39:36
  like,
• 39:37
  wow,
• 39:37
  this
• 39:37
  could
• 39:38
  be.
• 39:38
  This
• 39:38
  could
• 39:38
  be
• 39:38
  something
• 39:39
  big.
• 39:39
  And
• 39:40
  I
• 39:40
  remember
• 39:41
  having
• 39:42
  that
• 39:42
  feeling
• 39:43
  as
• 39:44
  I
• 39:44
  wrote
• 39:44
  this
• 39:45
  book
• 39:45
  from
• 39:45
  my
• 39:46
  viewpoint
• 39:46
  as
• 39:46
  an
• 39:46
  8th
• 39:47
  grader.
• 39:47
  I
• 39:47
  was
• 39:47
  on
• 39:47
  the
• 39:47
  junior
• 39:48
  high
• 39:48
  team
• 39:48
  looking
• 39:49
  up
• 39:49
  to
• 39:49
  Glenn
• 39:50
  and
• 39:50
  his
• 39:50
  teammates.
• 39:51
  And
• 39:51
  I
• 39:51
  remember
• 39:52
  having
• 39:52
  that
• 39:52
  feeling
• 39:53
  as
• 39:54
  that
• 39:54
  season
• 39:54
  was
• 39:54
  going
• 39:55
  along.
• 39:55
  And
• 39:56
  I
• 39:56
  guess
• 39:56
  I
• 39:56
  always
• 39:56
  thought
• 39:57
  somebody
• 39:57
  would
• 39:57
  write
• 39:58
  about
• 39:58
  this
• 39:58
  at
• 39:59
  some
• 39:59
  point
• 39:59
  because
• 39:59
  it
• 39:59
  was
• 40:00
  such
• 40:00
  a
• 40:00
  great
• 40:00
  story
• 40:01
  that
• 40:02
  at
• 40:02
  some
• 40:02
  point
• 40:02
  I
• 40:02
  decided,
• 40:03
  well,
• 40:04
  I
• 40:04
  enjoy
• 40:05
  a
• 40:05
  story
• 40:05
  like
• 40:05
  this.
• 40:06
  I
• 40:06
  think
• 40:06
  I'm
• 40:06
  literate.
• 40:07
  Why
• 40:07
  don't
• 40:07
  I
• 40:07
  try
• 40:08
  and
• 40:08
  put
• 40:08
  this
• 40:08
  down
• 40:08
  on
• 40:08
  paper?
• 40:09
  And
• 40:10
  it
• 40:10
  came
• 40:10
  together
• 40:12
  magically
• 40:12
  and
• 40:12
  just
• 40:13
  flowed
• 40:13
  out.
• 40:14
  Now,
• 40:14
  I
• 40:14
  want
• 40:14
  to
• 40:14
  ask
• 40:15
  you
• 40:15
  tomorrow
• 40:16
  before
• 40:16
  we
• 40:16
  get
• 40:17
  back
• 40:17
  to
• 40:17
  Glenn,
• 40:17
  is
• 40:18
  a
• 40:18
  great
• 40:19
  service
• 40:19
  is
• 40:20
  served
• 40:21
  by
• 40:21
  this
• 40:21
  book
• 40:22
  as
• 40:22
  being
• 40:22
  a
• 40:23
  chronicle
• 40:24
  of
• 40:24
  the
• 40:24
  rise
• 40:24
  of
• 40:24
  Babylon
• 40:25
  basketball.
• 40:26
  Is
• 40:27
  there
• 40:27
  any
• 40:27
  other
• 40:27
  way
• 40:28
  that
• 40:28
  this
• 40:28
  story
• 40:29
  is
• 40:29
  kept
• 40:29
  alive,
• 40:30
  or
• 40:31
  did
• 40:31
  you
• 40:32
  uncover
• 40:32
  the
• 40:32
  Rosetta
• 40:33
  stone
• 40:33
  here?
• 40:35
  Well,
• 40:36
  there's
• 40:36
  little
• 40:37
  bits
• 40:37
  of
• 40:37
  newspaper
• 40:38
  clippings
• 40:39
  but,
• 40:39
  you
• 40:39
  know,
• 40:40
  we
• 40:40
  weren't
• 40:40
  in
• 40:40
  the
• 40:41
  kind
• 40:41
  of
• 40:41
  media
• 40:41
  age
• 40:41
  back
• 40:42
  in
• 40:42
  the
• 40:42
  70s
• 40:42
  we
• 40:43
  are
• 40:43
  today,
• 40:43
  where
• 40:43
  you
• 40:43
  had
• 40:44
  Facebook
• 40:44
  and
• 40:44
  everything.
• 40:45
  And
• 40:45
  as
• 40:45
  I
• 40:46
  would
• 40:46
  go
• 40:46
  out
• 40:46
  and
• 40:47
  kind
• 40:47
  of
• 40:47
  look
• 40:47
  for
• 40:48
  pieces
• 40:48
  of
• 40:48
  information,
• 40:50
  the
• 40:50
  best
• 40:50
  thing
• 40:50
  I
• 40:50
  could
• 40:51
  get
• 40:51
  was
• 40:52
  the
• 40:52
  Newsday
• 40:53
  archives,
• 40:53
  which
• 40:54
  kind
• 40:54
  of
• 40:54
  kept
• 40:55
  the
• 40:56
  old
• 40:56
  papers,
• 40:57
  which
• 40:57
  had
• 40:57
  pretty
• 40:57
  good

• 41:00
  I
• 41:00

• 41:03
  And
• 41:04
  I
• 41:05
  really
• 41:05
  didn't
• 41:05

• 41:32
  So
• 41:33
  I
• 41:33
  wrote
• 41:33

• 41:33
  because
• 41:33
  I

  thought
• 41:34
  there
• 41:34
  was
• 41:34
  a
• 41:34

• 41:35
  of

• 41:36
  or

  And,

• 41:42

• 41:43
  but
• 41:44
  winning
• 41:44
  the
• 41:44

• 41:44
  ever
• 41:45
  Long
• 41:45

• 41:46
  Because
• 41:47
  before
• 41:47
  that
• 41:47
  year,
• 41:48
  the
• 41:48
  highest
• 41:48
  you
• 41:49
  could
• 41:49
  get,
• 41:49
  as
• 41:49
  Glenn
• 41:49
  said,
• 41:50
  was
• 41:50
  to
• 41:50
  win
• 41:50
  a

• 41:52
  This

  another

• 41:56
  And
• 41:56
  since

  we

  two
• 41:57

• 41:58
  you
• 41:58
  know,
• 41:58
  it
• 41:58
  was
• 41:58
  dubbed
• 41:59
  the
• 41:59
  Long
• 41:59
  Island
• 41:59
  Championship.
• 42:00
  So,
• 42:00
  yeah,
• 42:01
  I
• 42:01
  definitely
• 42:01
  thought
• 42:02
  there
• 42:02
  was
• 42:02
  a
• 42:02
  vacuum
• 42:03
  and
• 42:03
  I
• 42:03
  wanted
• 42:03
  to
• 42:03
  make
• 42:03
  sure
• 42:04
  that
• 42:04
  there
• 42:04
  was
• 42:04
  something
• 42:05
  down,
• 42:06
  just,
• 42:06
  you
• 42:07
  know,
• 42:07
  pointing
• 42:07
  out
• 42:08
  what
• 42:08
  a
• 42:08
  great
• 42:08
  accomplishment,
• 42:09
  a
• 42:09
  great
• 42:09
  bunch
• 42:10
  of
• 42:10
  young
• 42:10
  men
• 42:11
  these
• 42:11
  guys
• 42:11
  were,
• 42:12
  and
• 42:12
  what
• 42:12
  it
• 42:12
  meant
• 42:12
  to
• 42:13
  the
• 42:13
  community
• 42:13
  at
• 42:14
  large.
• 42:14
  And
• 42:15
  you
• 42:15
  definitely
• 42:15
  did
• 42:15
  a
• 42:15
  good
• 42:16
  job
• 42:16
  of
• 42:16
  conveying
• 42:17
  that
• 42:17
  particular
• 42:18
  point,
• 42:18
  Tom.
• 42:19
  And
• 42:19
  I'd
• 42:19
  like
• 42:20
  to
• 42:20
  go
• 42:21
  to
• 42:21
  Glenn
• 42:22
  with
• 42:22
  us
• 42:22
  tonight.
• 42:22
  Of
• 42:23
  course,
• 42:23
  Tom
• 42:23
  McEwen,
• 42:24
  Glenn
• 42:24
  Vickers,
• 42:25
  this
• 42:26
  is
• 42:26
  Panther
• 42:26
  country
• 42:27
  about
• 42:28
  Babylon
• 42:28
  basketball.
• 42:29
  Talk
• 42:30
  a
• 42:30
  little
• 42:30
  bit
• 42:30
  about
• 42:31
  Glenn,
• 42:31
  about
• 42:32
  Coach
• 42:32
  Kobel.
• 42:34
  Well,
• 42:35
  Coach
• 42:35
  Koble,
• 42:37
  basically.
• 42:38
  And
• 42:38
  I
• 42:38
  used
• 42:38
  to
• 42:38
  go
• 42:39
  to
• 42:39
  a
• 42:39
  five
• 42:39
  star
• 42:39
  basketball
• 42:40
  camp
• 42:41
  with
• 42:41
  Rick
• 42:42
  Pitino
• 42:42
  and
• 42:43
  all
• 42:44
  these
• 42:44
  Tyler
• 42:45
  Perry,
• 42:46
  Bobby
• 42:46
  Knight,
• 42:48
  all
• 42:48
  these
• 42:49
  great
• 42:50
  basketball
• 42:51
  minds,
• 42:51
  and
• 42:51
  Coach
• 42:52
  Kobel
• 42:53
  who
• 42:53
  went
• 42:54
  to
• 42:54
  Springfield,
• 42:55
  Mass.
• 42:55
  He
• 42:56
  graduated
• 42:56
  from
• 42:57
  that
• 42:57
  college
• 42:57
  where
• 42:58
  the
• 42:59
  home
• 42:59
  of
• 42:59
  basketball,
• 43:00
  right?
• 43:01
  And
• 43:01
  he
• 43:01
  was
• 43:02
  just
• 43:02
  a.
• 43:03
  An
• 43:04
  intellectual.
• 43:05
  He
• 43:06
  read
• 43:07
  and
• 43:07
  breathed
• 43:08
  basketball
• 43:09
  technical
• 43:10
  documents.
• 43:11
  And
• 43:11
  we
• 43:12
  ran
• 43:13
  a
• 43:14
  2,
• 43:14
  3
• 43:15
  triangle
• 43:16
  offense
• 43:17
  long
• 43:17
  before
• 43:18
  Michael
• 43:18
  Jordan
• 43:19
  and
• 43:19
  Chicago
• 43:20
  Bulls
• 43:20
  made
• 43:20
  the
• 43:21
  triangle
• 43:21
  offense.
• 43:22
  There
• 43:22
  are
• 43:22
  different
• 43:22
  versions
• 43:23
  of
• 43:23
  it.
• 43:24
  So
• 43:24
  we
• 43:24
  ran
• 43:25
  that.
• 43:27
  He
• 43:28
  also
• 43:28
  had
• 43:29
  a
• 43:29
  unique
• 43:30
  full
• 43:31
  court
• 43:31
  press
• 43:33
  offense.
• 43:34
  And
• 43:35
  what
• 43:35
  he
• 43:36
  did
• 43:36
  in
• 43:36
  Coach
• 43:36
  Valvano,
• 43:37
  which
• 43:37
  was
• 43:38
  a
• 43:38
  very
• 43:39
  smart
• 43:39
  man,
• 43:40
  he
• 43:40
  was
• 43:40
  like,
• 43:40
  look,
• 43:41
  I
• 43:42
  have
• 43:42
  a
• 43:42
  point
• 43:42
  guard
• 43:43
  who
• 43:43
  hasn't
• 43:43
  lost
• 43:43
  the
• 43:44
  game
• 43:44
  in
• 43:44
  two
• 43:44
  years
• 43:45
  he
• 43:46
  runs
• 43:46
  this
• 43:47
  23
• 43:47
  triangle
• 43:48
  offense
• 43:49
  and
• 43:49
  he
• 43:50
  brought
• 43:50
  coach
• 43:50
  Kobel
• 43:51
  up
• 43:52
  to
• 43:53
  install
• 43:54
  that
• 43:54
  offense
• 43:55
  which
• 43:55
  Iona
• 43:56
  used
• 43:56
  to
• 43:57
  become
• 43:57
  29
• 43:57
  and
• 43:58
  five
• 43:59
  top
• 43:59
  rated
• 44:00
  in
• 44:00
  the
• 44:00
  nation.
• 44:01
  And
• 44:01
  Iona
• 44:02
  College
• 44:02
  is
• 44:02
  the
• 44:03
  only

• 44:05
  now
• 44:06
  that
• 44:06
  had
• 44:07
  started
• 44:07
  five
• 44:08
  all
• 44:08
  Long
• 44:09
  island
• 44:09
  all
• 44:10
  Stars
• 44:11
  and
• 44:11
  we
• 44:11
  went
• 44:12
  to
• 44:12
  the
• 44:12
  top
• 44:12
  20.
• 44:13
  St.
• 44:14
  John's
• 44:14
  never
• 44:14
  did
• 44:14
  it.
• 44:15
  No
• 44:15
  other
• 44:15
  school
• 44:16
  has
• 44:16
  ever
• 44:16
  started
• 44:17

• 44:18
  Long
• 44:18
  island
• 44:19
  all
• 44:19
  stars
• 44:20
  and
• 44:20
  went
• 44:21
  to
• 44:21
  beat
• 44:22
  Kansas,
• 44:23
  Louisville,
• 44:24
  we
• 44:24
  lost
• 44:24
  to
• 44:25
  Kentucky
• 44:25
  in
• 44:25
  the
• 44:26
  Alaska
• 44:26
  shootout
• 44:27
  by
• 44:27
  five.
• 44:28
  We
• 44:29
  beat
• 44:29
  Oregon
• 44:30
  quite
• 44:31
  handily.
• 44:32
  I
• 44:32
  happen
• 44:33
  to
• 44:33
  have
• 44:33
  25
• 44:34
  in
• 44:34
  that
• 44:34
  game.
• 44:35
  We
• 44:35
  beat
• 44:36
  Kansas
• 44:37
  in
• 44:38
  Madison
• 44:38
  Square
• 44:38
  Garden,
• 44:39
  let
• 44:39
  our
• 44:40
  scores
• 44:40
  22
• 44:41
  points.
• 44:41
  They
• 44:41
  gave
• 44:42
  me
• 44:42
  eight
• 44:42
  assist
• 44:43
  points.
• 44:43
  So
• 44:45
  all
• 44:45
  that
• 44:46
  came
• 44:46
  from
• 44:48
  Long
• 44:48
  island
• 44:48
  basketball.
• 44:50
  And
• 44:51
  what
• 44:52
  was
• 44:52
  great
• 44:52
  about
• 44:52
  Iona
• 44:53
  and
• 44:53
  its
• 44:53
  president
• 44:54
  brother
• 44:54
  John
• 44:55
  Driscoll.
• 44:57
  In
• 44:57
  an
• 44:57
  era
• 44:58
  of
• 44:58
  what
• 44:59
  I
• 44:59
  consider
• 45:00
  massive
• 45:00
  exploitation
• 45:01
  of
• 45:01
  college
• 45:02
  athletes,
• 45:04
  only
• 45:04
  the
• 45:04
  coach
• 45:04
  of
• 45:05
  the
• 45:05
  school
• 45:05
  could
• 45:05
  make
• 45:06
  any
• 45:06
  money.
• 45:06
  Unlike
• 45:06
  today
• 45:07
  would
• 45:07
  be
• 45:09
  nil
• 45:10
  circumstances.
• 45:11
  But
• 45:12
  long
• 45:12
  story
• 45:12
  short,
• 45:13
  I
• 45:13
  own
• 45:13
  a
• 45:14
  job
• 45:14
  place
• 45:15
  it's
• 45:16

• 45:16
  for
• 45:17
  now
• 45:17
  going
• 45:17
  on
• 45:18
  30
• 45:18
  years.
• 45:19
  And
• 45:19
  I
• 45:19
  worked
• 45:20
  for
• 45:20
  IBM,
• 45:20

• 45:23
  Development,
• 45:24
  all
• 45:24
  those
• 45:24
  jobs
• 45:25
  as
• 45:26
  Suffolk
• 45:26
  county
• 45:26
  assistant
• 45:27
  district
• 45:27
  attorney
• 45:28
  have
• 45:28
  a
• 45:28

• 45:28

• 45:29
  All
• 45:29
  those
• 45:30
  jobs
• 45:31
  came
• 45:32
  from
• 45:32
  my
• 45:32
  own
• 45:32
  colleague
• 45:33
  and
• 45:33
  their
• 45:33
  network.
• 45:34
  So
• 45:36
  very,
• 45:36
  very
• 45:36
  proud
• 45:37
  of
• 45:37
  that
• 45:37
  school
• 45:38
  and
• 45:38
  its
• 45:38
  history.
• 45:39
  And
• 45:40
  I
• 45:40
  just
• 45:40
  think
• 45:40
  that
• 45:41
  I
• 45:41
  was
• 45:42
  blessed
• 45:43
  to
• 45:43
  have
• 45:43
  met
• 45:45
  coach
• 45:46

• 45:47
  and
• 45:47
  although
• 45:48
  we
• 45:48
  kind
• 45:48
  of
• 45:48
  put
• 45:48
  him
• 45:49
  on
• 45:49
  the

  was
• 45:52
  a
• 45:52
  very
• 45:53
  interesting
• 45:54
  talented
• 45:55
  man.
• 45:55
  And
• 45:58
  all
• 45:58
  that
• 45:58
  again
• 45:59
  goes
• 45:59
  back
• 45:59
  to
• 46:00
  the
• 46:01
  1975
• 46:02
  Long
• 46:02

• 46:02

• 46:03
  because
• 46:04
  we
• 46:04
  won
• 46:05
  so
• 46:05
  much.
• 46:06

  to

  to

• 46:19
  the

• 46:22
  again.
• 46:22
  38
• 46:24

• 46:24
  in
• 46:24
  a
• 46:25
  row
• 46:25
  we
• 46:25
  won.
• 46:25
  And
• 46:26
  your

  very
• 46:26
  talented
• 46:26
  younger
• 46:27
  brother
• 46:27
  Brian
• 46:27
  Vickers,
• 46:28
  who
• 46:28
  was
• 46:29
  I
• 46:29
  got
• 46:29
  the
• 46:30
  honor
• 46:30
  to
• 46:30
  play
• 46:31
  with.
• 46:31
  Well
• 46:32
  obviously
• 46:33
  Glenn
• 46:33
  has
• 46:33
  a
• 46:34
  tremendous
• 46:35
  memory,
• 46:35
  Tom,
• 46:36
  of
• 46:36
  what
• 46:36
  happened
• 46:37
  during
• 46:37
  that
• 46:38
  season
• 46:38
  and
• 46:39
  what
• 46:40
  happened
• 46:40
  after
• 46:41
  that
• 46:41
  as
• 46:41
  well.
• 46:42
  Who
• 46:42
  else
• 46:42
  did
• 46:43
  you
• 46:43
  speak
• 46:43
  to
• 46:44
  when
• 46:45
  writing
• 46:45
  the
• 46:45
  book
• 46:46
  to
• 46:46
  get
• 46:47
  further
• 46:47
  information,
• 46:48
  further
• 46:48
  memories
• 46:49
  to
• 46:49
  add
• 46:49
  to
• 46:49
  your
• 46:50
  book?
• 46:51
  Of
• 46:51
  course
• 46:51
  I
• 46:51
  spoke
• 46:52
  a
• 46:52
  lot
• 46:52
  with
• 46:52
  coach
• 46:53
  Roy
• 46:53
  Kobel.
• 46:54
  He's
• 46:55
  90
• 46:56
  years
• 46:56
  old,
• 46:56
  still
• 46:56
  going
• 46:57
  strong
• 46:57
  down
• 46:57
  in
• 46:57
  Florida.
• 46:58
  We
• 46:58
  just
• 46:58
  had
• 46:59
  a
• 46:59
  launch
• 46:59
  event
• 46:59
  for
• 47:00
  the
• 47:00
  book
• 47:00
  and
• 47:00
  he
• 47:00
  actually
• 47:00
  made
• 47:01
  the
• 47:01
  trip
• 47:01
  up
• 47:02
  to
• 47:02
  gather
• 47:03
  with
• 47:03
  a
• 47:03
  bunch
• 47:03
  of
• 47:03
  the
• 47:03
  players
• 47:04
  last
• 47:04
  Tuesday,
• 47:05
  which
• 47:05
  was
• 47:05
  phenomenal.
• 47:06
  But
• 47:06
  I
• 47:06
  did
• 47:06
  do
• 47:07
  a
• 47:07
  lot.
• 47:07
  His
• 47:08
  memory
• 47:08
  is
• 47:08
  still
• 47:09
  phenomenal
• 47:09
  as
• 47:09
  well.
• 47:10
  And
• 47:10
  we
• 47:11
  talked
• 47:12
  about
• 47:12
  a
• 47:12
  lot
• 47:12
  of
• 47:13
  points
• 47:13
  within
• 47:13
  the
• 47:13
  book
• 47:14
  and
• 47:15
  things
• 47:15
  that
• 47:16
  went
• 47:16
  on.
• 47:16
  I
• 47:16
  talked
• 47:17
  to
• 47:17
  Glenn's
• 47:18
  co
• 47:18
  captain
• 47:19
  of
• 47:19
  that
• 47:19
  team,
• 47:19
  Gervis
• 47:20
  Barger,
• 47:20
  who
• 47:21
  a
• 47:21
  remarkable
• 47:21
  player
• 47:22
  and
• 47:22
  A
• 47:22
  great
• 47:22
  teacher
• 47:23
  actually
• 47:23
  coached
• 47:23
  me
• 47:23
  later
• 47:24
  on
• 47:24
  in
• 47:24
  some
• 47:24
  summer
• 47:25
  leagues.
• 47:25
  And
• 47:25
  I
• 47:26
  also
• 47:26
  got
• 47:26
  to
• 47:26
  talk
• 47:26
  to
• 47:27
  some
• 47:27
  of
• 47:27
  the
• 47:27
  Amityville
• 47:28
  players.
• 47:28
  I
• 47:29
  think
• 47:29
  you've
• 47:30
  read
• 47:30
  that
• 47:31
  a
• 47:31
  big
• 47:31
  part
• 47:31
  of
• 47:31
  the
• 47:32
  book
• 47:32
  is
• 47:32
  this
• 47:32
  rivalry
• 47:33
  we
• 47:33
  had
• 47:33
  with
• 47:34
  Amityville
• 47:34
  and
• 47:34
  this
• 47:35
  trilogy
• 47:35
  of
• 47:35
  games.
• 47:36
  And
• 47:37
  I
• 47:37
  really
• 47:37
  wanted
• 47:37
  to
• 47:38
  speak
• 47:38
  with
• 47:38
  some
• 47:38
  of
• 47:38
  the
• 47:38
  guys
• 47:39
  on
• 47:39
  their
• 47:39
  team,
• 47:40
  particularly
• 47:41
  their
• 47:42
  all
• 47:42
  star
• 47:42
  guard
• 47:42
  who
• 47:43
  was
• 47:43
  also
• 47:43
  a
• 47:43
  great
• 47:43
  football
• 47:44
  player,
• 47:44
  Paul
• 47:45
  Smith,
• 47:45
  because
• 47:47
  he
• 47:47
  has
• 47:47
  kind
• 47:47
  of
• 47:47
  a
• 47:47
  dual
• 47:48
  role
• 47:48
  as
• 47:48
  a
• 47:48
  guy
• 47:48
  who's
• 47:49
  a
• 47:49
  spoiler
• 47:49
  for
• 47:49
  us
• 47:50
  and
• 47:51
  yet
• 47:51
  gives
• 47:52
  us
• 47:52
  an
• 47:52
  opening
• 47:52
  to
• 47:52
  help
• 47:53
  us
• 47:53
  win
• 47:53
  that
• 47:53
  triple
• 47:53
  overtime
• 47:54
  game.
• 47:55
  But
• 47:55
  so
• 47:56
  I
• 47:56
  spoke
• 47:56
  to
• 47:56
  two
• 47:56
  of
• 47:57
  the
• 47:57
  Amityville
• 47:57
  players
• 47:58
  and
• 47:58
  then
• 47:58
  a
• 47:58
  lot
• 47:58
  of
• 47:59
  just
• 48:00
  friends
• 48:00
  of
• 48:00
  mine
• 48:00
  at
• 48:01
  the
• 48:01
  time
• 48:01
  and
• 48:01
  stuff,
• 48:02
  trying
• 48:02
  to
• 48:02
  remember
• 48:03
  what
• 48:03
  it
• 48:03
  was
• 48:03
  like
• 48:03
  in
• 48:03
  Babylon
• 48:04
  and
• 48:04
  things
• 48:04
  like
• 48:05
  that.
• 48:05
  So,
• 48:06
  yeah,
• 48:06
  so
• 48:06
  probably,
• 48:07
  probably
• 48:07
  about
• 48:07
  20
• 48:07
  or
• 48:07
  30
• 48:08
  people.
• 48:08
  But
• 48:08
  as
• 48:08
  I
• 48:08
  said,
• 48:09
  I
• 48:09
  kind
• 48:09
  of,
• 48:09
  I
• 48:10
  wrote
• 48:10
  the
• 48:10
  whole
• 48:10
  thing
• 48:11
  from
• 48:11
  memory
• 48:12
  and
• 48:12
  through
• 48:13
  Newsday,
• 48:13
  then
• 48:13
  went
• 48:13
  back
• 48:14
  to
• 48:14
  everybody
• 48:14
  and
• 48:14
  said,
• 48:15
  this
• 48:16
  is
• 48:16
  how
• 48:16
  our
• 48:16
  did
• 48:17
  this
• 48:17
  happen
• 48:17
  or
• 48:18
  things
• 48:18
  like
• 48:18
  that.
• 48:19
  So
• 48:20
  it
• 48:21
  was
• 48:21
  really
• 48:21
  fun.
• 48:22
  I
• 48:22
  keep
• 48:22
  joking
• 48:23
  that
• 48:23
  I
• 48:23
  probably
• 48:23
  enjoyed
• 48:24
  reliving
• 48:25
  my
• 48:25
  youth
• 48:25
  better
• 48:26
  than
• 48:26
  I
• 48:26
  enjoyed
• 48:26
  living
• 48:26
  it.
• 48:27
  Yeah,
• 48:28
  that's
• 48:28
  certainly
• 48:28
  true,
• 48:29
  Tom.
• 48:29
  And
• 48:30
  you
• 48:30
  certainly
• 48:30
  did
• 48:30
  a
• 48:31
  great
• 48:31
  job
• 48:32
  fact
• 48:32
  checking
• 48:33
  with
• 48:34
  your
• 48:34
  sources.
• 48:35
  And
• 48:35
  it's
• 48:35
  obvious
• 48:36
  when
• 48:36
  reading
• 48:36
  the
• 48:37
  book.
• 48:37
  Glenn

• 48:46
  Can

  they
• 48:46

• 48:48
  Yes,

  and

  get

  you,

  what

  was

  the

• 48:59
  Tom,
• 48:59
  for

  you
• 49:00
  about

  that

  you

  we're

  winning,
• 49:09
  we

• 49:09
  a

• 49:10
  more,
• 49:10
  we
• 49:10
  win
• 49:10
  a
• 49:10
  little
• 49:11
  more.
• 49:11
  And
• 49:12
  finally
• 49:12
  it
• 49:12
  looked
• 49:12
  like,
• 49:13
  hey,
• 49:13
  we
• 49:13
  could
• 49:13
  go
• 49:13
  all
• 49:13
  the
• 49:13
  way
• 49:14
  on
• 49:14
  this
• 49:14
  thing.
• 49:15
  Some
• 49:15
  of
• 49:15
  the
• 49:15
  special
• 49:15
  memories,
• 49:16
  and
• 49:16
  it
• 49:17
  continued
• 49:17
  throughout
• 49:18
  my
• 49:18
  high
• 49:18
  school
• 49:19
  career
• 49:19
  at
• 49:19
  Babylon,
• 49:20
  is
• 49:20
  the
• 49:20
  varsity
• 49:21
  players,
• 49:21
  the
• 49:22
  way
• 49:22
  they
• 49:22
  would
• 49:22
  check
• 49:22
  in
• 49:23
  and
• 49:24
  look
• 49:24
  in.
• 49:24
  I
• 49:25
  was
• 49:25
  on
• 49:25
  junior
• 49:25
  high
• 49:25
  at
• 49:26
  the
• 49:26
  team
• 49:26
  and
• 49:26
  Glenn
• 49:27
  and
• 49:27
  Gervis
• 49:27
  and
• 49:28
  Stanley
• 49:28
  Davis
• 49:29
  was
• 49:29
  another
• 49:29
  great
• 49:29
  player.
• 49:30
  They'd
• 49:30
  come
• 49:30
  to
• 49:30
  our
• 49:30
  practices
• 49:31
  every
• 49:31
  once
• 49:31
  in
• 49:32
  a
• 49:32
  while
• 49:32
  and
• 49:32
  kind
• 49:32
  of
• 49:33
  drill
• 49:34
  us
• 49:34
  a
• 49:34
  little
• 49:34
  bit
• 49:34
  and
• 49:35
  help
• 49:35
  out.
• 49:35
  And
• 49:36
  also
• 49:36
  over
• 49:36
  the
• 49:36
  summers,
• 49:37
  the
• 49:37
  leagues,
• 49:38
  the
• 49:38
  older
• 49:38
  players
• 49:39
  form
• 49:39
  these
• 49:40
  basketball
• 49:41
  leagues
• 49:41
  down
• 49:41
  at
• 49:42
  the
• 49:42
  Babylon
• 49:42
  Village
• 49:42
  courts
• 49:43
  there
• 49:43
  by
• 49:43
  the
• 49:43
  grade
• 49:44
  school.
• 49:44
  Oh,
• 49:44
  yeah.
• 49:45
  So
• 49:46
  my
• 49:46
  memories
• 49:46
  are,
• 49:47
  you
• 49:47
  know,
• 49:47
  the
• 49:47
  specialness
• 49:48
  was
• 49:48
  the
• 49:49
  I
• 49:49
  described
• 49:50
  kind
• 49:50
  of
• 49:50
  the
• 49:50
  mentorship
• 49:51
  of
• 49:51
  the
• 49:51
  program.
• 49:52
  You
• 49:52
  know,
• 49:52
  not
• 49:52
  only
• 49:52
  were
• 49:53
  Glenn
• 49:53
  and
• 49:53
  his
• 49:54
  Compatriots,
• 49:55
  you
• 49:55
  know,
• 49:55
  playing
• 49:56
  their
• 49:56
  game
• 49:57
  to
• 49:57
  win,
• 49:57
  but
• 49:57
  also
• 49:58
  somewhat
• 49:58
  looking
• 49:58
  after
• 49:59
  us
• 49:59
  down
• 49:59
  the
• 49:59
  tree.
• 50:00
  Glenn
• 50:01
  Vickers,
• 50:01
  what
• 50:02
  do
• 50:02
  you
• 50:02
  remember
• 50:02
  about
• 50:03
  that
• 50:03
  season
• 50:03
  that
• 50:04
  has
• 50:04
  to
• 50:04
  be
• 50:04
  the
• 50:05
  pinnacle,
• 50:06
  the
• 50:06
  highlight
• 50:07
  when
• 50:07
  you
• 50:08
  knew
• 50:08
  something
• 50:08
  special
• 50:09
  was
• 50:09
  happening
• 50:09
  with
• 50:10
  your
• 50:10
  team.
• 50:11
  What
• 50:11
  was
• 50:12
  that?
• 50:14
  For
• 50:14
  me
• 50:16
  it
• 50:16
  was
• 50:17
  the
• 50:18
  luck
• 50:19
  of
• 50:19
  having
• 50:20
  the
• 50:21
  foremost
• 50:22
  athletic
• 50:23
  family,
• 50:23
  the
• 50:23
  Farley
• 50:24
  family.
• 50:25
  And
• 50:25
  they
• 50:26
  had
• 50:26
  Charles
• 50:27
  Farley,
• 50:28
  who
• 50:28
  was
• 50:28
  probably
• 50:29
  the
• 50:29
  greatest
• 50:30
  long
• 50:30
  range
• 50:30
  jumper,
• 50:31
  young
• 50:31
  shooter
• 50:32
  we've
• 50:32
  had
• 50:32
  in
• 50:32
  the
• 50:32
  history
• 50:33
  of
• 50:33
  Babylon.
• 50:34
  Well,
• 50:34
  if
• 50:34
  we
• 50:34
  had
• 50:35
  a
• 50:35
  three
• 50:35
  point
• 50:35
  line
• 50:35
  back
• 50:36
  then,
• 50:36
  yeah.
• 50:37
  And
• 50:37
  then
• 50:38
  we
• 50:38
  had
• 50:38
  Stephen
• 50:39
  Farley's
• 50:40
  six,
• 50:40
  four,
• 50:40
  the
• 50:41
  toughest
• 50:41
  guy
• 50:41
  ever
• 50:42
  going
• 50:42
  against,
• 50:43
  perhaps
• 50:44
  against
• 50:44
  his
• 50:45
  brother
• 50:45
  George,
• 50:45
  who
• 50:46
  was
• 50:46
  Farley
• 50:47
  the
• 50:47
  year
• 50:47
  before,
• 50:48
  guy
• 50:48
  named
• 50:49
  Pat
• 50:49
  Cunningham,
• 50:50
  who
• 50:50
  set
• 50:50
  the
• 50:50
  standard
• 50:51
  of
• 50:51
  excellence
• 50:52
  in
• 50:52
  terms
• 50:52
  of
• 50:53
  his
• 50:54
  commitment.
• 50:55
  But
• 50:56
  we
• 50:56
  were
• 50:56
  number
• 50:57
  five
• 50:57
  in
• 50:57
  the
• 50:57
  nation
• 50:58
  and
• 50:58
  you
• 50:58
  have
• 50:58
  to
• 50:59
  understand
• 50:59
  we
• 50:59
  were
• 50:59
  rated
• 51:00
  number
• 51:00
  five
• 51:00
  in
• 51:01
  the
• 51:01
  nation
• 51:02
  and
• 51:02
  we
• 51:02
  had
• 51:03
  the
• 51:03
  year
• 51:03
  after.
• 51:04
  Yeah,
• 51:05
  we
• 51:05
  had
• 51:05
  a
• 51:05
  6,
• 51:06
  9
• 51:06
  center.
• 51:07
  Chris
• 51:08
  breast.
• 51:08
  Oh
• 51:08
  yeah,
• 51:09
  who
• 51:10
  was
• 51:10
  tremendous.
• 51:11
  He
• 51:11
  went
• 51:11
  to
• 51:11
  North
• 51:12
  Carolina
• 51:13
  but
• 51:13
  you
• 51:13
  know,
• 51:14
  Babylon
• 51:14
  usually
• 51:15
  had
• 51:15
  a
• 51:15
  6,
• 51:15
  3,
• 51:16
  6,
• 51:16
  4
• 51:16
  center.
• 51:17
  And
• 51:17
  then
• 51:17
  all
• 51:17
  of
• 51:17
  a
• 51:17
  sudden
• 51:17
  we
• 51:17
  get
• 51:18
  this
• 51:19
  guy
• 51:19
  and
• 51:19
  then
• 51:19
  we
• 51:19
  have
• 51:20
  Barry
• 51:20
  Davis,
• 51:21
  all
• 51:22
  track
• 51:23
  superstar
• 51:25
  who
• 51:25
  could
• 51:26
  play
• 51:26
  guards
• 51:26
  at
• 51:27
  six,
• 51:27
  four,
• 51:28
  tremendously
• 51:29
  athletic,
• 51:30
  fought
• 51:30
  you
• 51:31
  on
• 51:31
  the
• 51:31
  boards
• 51:31
  and
• 51:32
  then
• 51:32
  outran
• 51:33
  you
• 51:33
  down
• 51:33
  the
• 51:33
  court.
• 51:34
  So
• 51:35
  we
• 51:35
  have
• 51:35
  Jervis
• 51:36
  Barger,
• 51:36
  who's
• 51:38
  he
• 51:38
  locked
• 51:38
  down
• 51:39
  people.
• 51:39
  Best
• 51:40
  defense,
• 51:41
  defensive
• 51:41
  guard
• 51:42
  we
• 51:42
  ever
• 51:42
  had.
• 51:43
  So
• 51:44
  we
• 51:44
  had
• 51:45
  unique
• 51:45
  all
• 51:45
  time
• 51:46
  firsts,
• 51:47
  both
• 51:47
  at
• 51:47
  the
• 51:47
  center,
• 51:48
  long
• 51:49
  term
• 51:49
  shooter,
• 51:50
  best
• 51:50
  defender,
• 51:52
  Stan
• 51:52
  Davis,
• 51:53
  as
• 51:53
  smooth
• 51:54
  as
• 51:54
  can
• 51:54
  be.
• 51:55
  So
• 51:55
  we
• 51:55
  just
• 51:55
  had
• 51:57
  all
• 51:58
  these
• 51:58
  players
• 51:58
  coming
• 51:59
  at
• 51:59
  the
• 51:59
  same
• 52:00
  time.
• 52:00
  And
• 52:01
  I
• 52:01
  think
• 52:01
  coach
• 52:01
  Kobel
• 52:02
  was
• 52:02
  in
• 52:02
  his
• 52:02
  zenith
• 52:03
  in
• 52:03
  terms
• 52:03
  of
• 52:05
  he
• 52:05
  was
• 52:06
  always
• 52:07
  tinkering
• 52:07
  with
• 52:08
  his
• 52:08
  offense,
• 52:09
  defense.
• 52:10
  Everything
• 52:10
  just
• 52:11
  came
• 52:11
  together
• 52:11
  at
• 52:12
  the
• 52:12
  perfect
• 52:12
  time
• 52:13
  over
• 52:13
  that
• 52:14
  two
• 52:15
  year
• 52:15
  period.
• 52:15
  And
• 52:16
  again,
• 52:16
  38
• 52:17
  wins
• 52:17
  in
• 52:18
  a
• 52:18
  row.
• 52:19
  Not
• 52:19
  even
• 52:20
  Cubcheck
• 52:21
  had
• 52:21
  that,
• 52:21
  not
• 52:21
  even
• 52:23
  had
• 52:23
  that.
• 52:24
  And
• 52:25
  again
• 52:26
  and
• 52:26
  they
• 52:26
  were
• 52:27
  fantastic
• 52:28
  players
• 52:28
  off
• 52:29
  of
• 52:29
  Long
• 52:29
  Island.
• 52:30
  So
• 52:31
  I
• 52:31
  think
• 52:31
  the
• 52:32
  camaraderie,
• 52:33
  small
• 52:34
  school,
• 52:35
  small
• 52:35
  community
• 52:36
  and
• 52:38
  what
• 52:38
  Tom
• 52:39
  talks
• 52:39
  about
• 52:39
  is
• 52:40
  the
• 52:40
  impact
• 52:40
  per
• 52:41
  family
• 52:42
  and
• 52:42
  in
• 52:42
  the
• 52:43
  community.
• 52:43
  And
• 52:44
  I
• 52:44
  learned
• 52:45
  a
• 52:45
  lot
• 52:45
  of
• 52:45
  things
• 52:46
  that
• 52:46
  were
• 52:46
  going
• 52:46
  on
• 52:47
  in
• 52:48
  the
• 52:48
  community
• 52:48
  that
• 52:49
  I
• 52:49
  was
• 52:49
  unaware
• 52:50
  of
• 52:50
  as
• 52:50
  a
• 52:51
  player.
• 52:52
  Reading
• 52:53
  the
• 52:53
  book.
• 52:53
  Yeah.
• 52:55
  So
• 52:56
  he
• 52:56
  taught
• 52:57
  me
• 52:57
  a
• 52:57
  lot
• 52:58
  of
• 52:58
  things
• 52:58
  that
• 52:58
  were
• 52:58
  going
• 52:59
  on.
• 52:59
  We
• 52:59
  played
• 53:00
  Central
• 53:00
  Islip
• 53:01
  and
• 53:01
  I
• 53:02
  didn't
• 53:02
  know
• 53:02
  coach
• 53:02
  Konaseka
• 53:03
  was
• 53:03
  there.
• 53:03
  I
• 53:04
  didn't
• 53:04
  know
• 53:04
  that
• 53:04
  Leslie
• 53:05
  Trezell
• 53:05
  was
• 53:05
  in
• 53:05
  the
• 53:06
  stands.
• 53:06
  I
• 53:06
  didn't
• 53:06
  know
• 53:06
  that
• 53:07
  all
• 53:07
  these
• 53:08
  big
• 53:08
  time
• 53:09
  coaches
• 53:09
  were
• 53:10
  coming
• 53:10
  to
• 53:10
  Long
• 53:10
  island
• 53:11
  to
• 53:11
  recruit
• 53:12
  us.
• 53:13
  But
• 53:13
  I
• 53:13
  had
• 53:13
  no
• 53:14
  idea
• 53:14
  of
• 53:14
  it.
• 53:14
  And
• 53:15
  then
• 53:15
  Tom
• 53:15
  exposed
• 53:16
  that
• 53:16
  to
• 53:16
  me
• 53:17
  and
• 53:17
  many
• 53:17
  other
• 53:17
  details
• 53:19
  and
• 53:20
  my
• 53:21
  younger
• 53:21
  brother
• 53:22
  who
• 53:22
  passed
• 53:23
  and
• 53:23
  I
• 53:23
  told
• 53:23
  all
• 53:24
  my
• 53:24
  kids,
• 53:24
  you're
• 53:25
  going
• 53:25
  to
• 53:25
  learn
• 53:25
  more
• 53:26
