- 2:10Speaker 5: Shout out to my brother just Blaze the Megatron down
- 2:12Speaker 5: of course, and you know my other aka just Braids
- 2:15Speaker 5: up in here. So it was rough being on the
- 2:23Speaker 5: Combat Jat Show. It was not always the sweetest time
- 2:28Speaker 5: on that show, but that's why we started four on
- 2:31Speaker 5: NERD show. We're much nicer to each other most of
- 2:33Speaker 5: the time.
- 2:34Speaker 4: And we are back to talk.
- 2:36Speaker 5: About Iron Hiszzy iron Heart Episodes four, five, and six. Yes,
- 2:44Speaker 5: the mini series is now all out on Disney Plus.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Make sure you peep it if you haven't peep it yet,
- 2:50Speaker 5: because we are going to do heavy spoiling on this
- 2:54Speaker 5: episode and there are very big things, especially in episode six,
- 3:00Speaker 5: that might concern you. So if you haven't seen it,
- 3:03Speaker 5: you know much encourage you to go watch it out
- 3:05Speaker 5: there on Disney Plus and then you know, get back
- 3:08Speaker 5: over here.
- 3:08Speaker 4: And talk to us.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Since I've been gone, I haven't had a chance to
- 3:12Speaker 2: say my piece. You know, one of the first episodes
- 3:14Speaker 2: three premiere we have been seen this season, but I
- 3:19Speaker 2: have been privy to listening and watching all of the
- 3:23Speaker 2: responses from across the internet, and now that the whole
- 3:27Speaker 2: show is out, I just want to give a big
- 3:30Speaker 2: fuck you.
- 3:32Speaker 1: To everyone who has a problem with this show.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Okay, because once this last episode air and you saw
- 3:40Speaker 2: it and you still had a motherfucking problem, that's your
- 3:44Speaker 2: motherfucking problem. There's nothing you can tell me, say, do
- 3:47Speaker 2: show or give me an example of that would make sense.
- 3:51Speaker 2: After seeing what we saw, this ship is phenomenal. Get
- 3:55Speaker 2: the fuck out, and thank you. I just wanted to
- 3:57Speaker 2: make sure I said that because I was holding that
- 3:59Speaker 2: in for a few days.
- 4:01Speaker 5: I mean, that's all I had to say, you know
- 4:02Speaker 5: so far. Least, you know, we definitely want to talk
- 4:04Speaker 5: about all three episodes. I fully agree with you though,
- 4:07Speaker 5: at least as far as like we had a lot
- 4:10Speaker 5: of and we've had a lot of reaction to the
- 4:13Speaker 5: show on our various social media's on YouTube especially, and uh,
- 4:20Speaker 5: one thing I do want to say is, like me
- 4:21Speaker 5: and Genisia had a discussion last week, and I felt
- 4:24Speaker 5: like it went on too long, and I probably dragged
- 4:27Speaker 5: on too long myself, and I do want to apologize
- 4:30Speaker 5: to just Genisia and the listeners for that. And yes, Jared,
- 4:36Speaker 5: quite welcome, because it was that you had some very
- 4:39Speaker 5: valid points, and I felt those points were even eximplified
- 4:45Speaker 5: and exaggerated on the later three episodes, which we'll talk
- 4:48Speaker 5: about in a minute. And then there's something else that
- 4:52Speaker 5: you mentioned about how as black critics, and you know, critics,
- 4:58Speaker 5: I don't like to say marginal, but critics who have
- 5:02Speaker 5: a certain viewpoint and opinion, sometimes we feel the need
- 5:06Speaker 5: to defend these type of properties instead of critiquing them wholeheartedly,
- 5:11Speaker 5: I would say, because even though we do critique them,
- 5:14Speaker 5: And that was a problem that I definitely had. And
- 5:17Speaker 5: then I also recognized this week on our YouTube especially
- 5:22Speaker 5: that a lot of the trolls and the people who
- 5:24Speaker 5: have negative things to say about it really don't even
- 5:26Speaker 5: pay attention to what we said because you, Genisia had
- 5:30Speaker 5: a lot, well not a lot, but you had your
- 5:32Speaker 5: various issues with the show, and then people come in
- 5:35Speaker 5: the show and be like into the comments of like, oh,
- 5:37Speaker 5: this is terrible writing.
- 5:38Speaker 4: This is terrible.
- 5:39Speaker 5: It's terrible that I'm like, well, sometimes we agreed with
- 5:41Speaker 5: you on this episode, but you didn't.
- 5:43Speaker 1: You'd even read listen.
- 5:46Speaker 5: It's just you're just finding these reviews and immediately posting
- 5:50Speaker 5: these comments because that's what you feel like life is
- 5:53Speaker 5: about for some reason. So it doesn't really matter what
- 5:56Speaker 5: we say one way or the other. But overall, I
- 5:59Speaker 5: still think that Ironheart is a very excellent show, and
- 6:03Speaker 5: I disagree with some of the commoners. I was actually
- 6:07Speaker 5: talking to one today because they actually did respond for
- 6:09Speaker 5: a second, okay when they said, you know, the writing
- 6:13Speaker 5: is terrible, and I'm like, I just cannot agree with that,
- 6:16Speaker 5: Like no, And then they said, well, we'll be here
- 6:18Speaker 5: all day if I pointed out instances, and I'm like, no,
- 6:21Speaker 5: you wouldn't because you can't do that. You can't sit
- 6:23Speaker 5: there and break these shows down and be like, here's
- 6:25Speaker 5: an instance where the writing is terrible, his instance where
- 6:28Speaker 5: the characters weren't behaving true to their character, Like you
- 6:31Speaker 5: might have issues with how certain things are portrayed, which
- 6:33Speaker 5: I did as well, but as far as what the
- 6:35Speaker 5: characters are doing, for the most part, I felt like
- 6:38Speaker 5: they're written in character they're staying true to their character
- 6:41Speaker 5: and they're well written characters.
- 6:44Speaker 6: Yeah, no, I feel that. First I want to say
- 6:46Speaker 6: thank you for your apology, thank you for being a
- 6:48Speaker 6: vulnerable on tape. I appreciate that. Something I wanted to
- 6:52Speaker 6: add just before we move past the conversation that we
- 6:54Speaker 6: had last week, and as somebody who has as a
- 7:00Speaker 6: gender queer person who has talked about being gender queer
- 7:03Speaker 6: later in life, is something that like when I'm navigating
- 7:06Speaker 6: in spaces where I'm talking about my queer identity as
- 7:08Speaker 6: a queer black fem, my voice is not as strong
- 7:11Speaker 6: as it is when I'm talking about purely being a
- 7:13Speaker 6: black woman. And something that I would have said last
- 7:17Speaker 6: week was that I was the only queer fem in
- 7:19Speaker 6: the space. You know what I'm saying with my perspective
- 7:23Speaker 6: and my critique specifically about the queer black fems in
- 7:26Speaker 6: the show, And so I just wanted to affirm that,
- 7:29Speaker 6: like when we're having these conversations with one another, you know,
- 7:32Speaker 6: there of course was the added stress of wanting to
- 7:35Speaker 6: protect the show, but when we have in these conversations
- 7:37Speaker 6: amongst people who are of varying intersections, we're talking from
- 7:42Speaker 6: a you know, nerds of color perspective, a lot of
- 7:46Speaker 6: us are holding additional intersections. It's just important that we
- 7:49Speaker 6: try and keep in mind, like where each other is
- 7:52Speaker 6: coming from. You know what I'm saying, what intersections the
- 7:54Speaker 6: other person is coming from. And to your point, I
- 7:56Speaker 6: love that you said to a degree, it doesn't matter
- 7:59Speaker 6: what we say, because if you are a fucking white
- 8:01Speaker 6: supremacistrol if you're a misogynist, if your whole shit is misogyny, misogyny,
- 8:07Speaker 6: wire or whatever, it really doesn't you're not listening. And
- 8:09Speaker 6: it's nothing that we could say in our critiques. It's
- 8:12Speaker 6: nothing we can say on a podcast that's gonna make
- 8:14Speaker 6: those people who are determined to trash something based on
- 8:18Speaker 6: their bigotry. It's nothing that we can say that's gonna
- 8:20Speaker 6: shift that because their determination is control. And I think
- 8:25Speaker 6: that you know, in my opinion, when we become and
- 8:29Speaker 6: there's nothing wrong with like acknowledging it, like Tatiana you
- 8:32Speaker 6: open up and say fuck you or whatever. It's nothing
- 8:34Speaker 6: wrong with acknowledging that this is a thing that's happening
- 8:37Speaker 6: and it's a pressure that we feel and it's a
- 8:39Speaker 6: thing that exists, but we don't want to get into
- 8:41Speaker 6: a frenzy of what white people are doing. They're gonna
- 8:44Speaker 6: continue that. This whole you know, this whole presidency, right,
- 8:48Speaker 6: this whole Trump presidency is a fuck control, you know
- 8:50Speaker 6: what I'm saying. And if we allow that to stop
- 8:52Speaker 6: us from living, if we you know, when y'all do
- 8:55Speaker 6: this show, you are talking to the nerds of color.
- 8:58Speaker 6: It's for all nerds. But you know, so there's a
- 9:00Speaker 6: central gaze that we are, gaze that we're most concerned about.
- 9:04Speaker 6: And if we let that gaze be distracted and deterred
- 9:08Speaker 6: by white supremacists, racist trolls, it ends up being white
- 9:12Speaker 6: centric in and of itself, you know what I'm saying.
- 9:15Speaker 6: So I appreciate that we've had time to all kind
- 9:17Speaker 6: of sit back and you know, ponder that. And I
- 9:20Speaker 6: also want to acknowledge the feelings of like, when we're
- 9:22Speaker 6: watching a show that features people who look like us,
- 9:28Speaker 6: who share our identities, and we know it's being intact
- 9:31Speaker 6: because of those shared identities, it doesn't just impact the
- 9:34Speaker 6: people on that show, it impacts those of us of
- 9:37Speaker 6: those shared identities. Like, we feel that as well, and
- 9:40Speaker 6: so that feeling to like want to protect it, that
- 9:43Speaker 6: feeling of you know navigating that fucking default racism, that
- 9:48Speaker 6: that it's a minefield. It's distracting, and if it's difficult,
- 9:53Speaker 6: if you don't get grounded ahead of it, it's difficult.
- 9:55Speaker 6: It can be difficult to do the work to show
- 9:58Speaker 6: up and do you know what I'm saying? What is
- 10:00Speaker 6: that we know we're supposed to be doing.
- 10:02Speaker 5: Yeah, And it's draining. It's extremely draining, Like for me personally,
- 10:06Speaker 5: because I'm one of the people who responds to a
- 10:08Speaker 5: lot of people on YouTube in various places, and it's
- 10:12Speaker 5: like to the point where I just block most of
- 10:14Speaker 5: these trolls. It's immediate because one I don't someone else
- 10:18Speaker 5: said this and I've had this distression before, like oh,
- 10:20Speaker 5: you shouldn't live in an echo chamber, And I don't
- 10:21Speaker 5: really have time for that. I live in an echo
- 10:23Speaker 5: chamber of you know, the people who I fucked with
- 10:25Speaker 5: and of what I feel are right minded ideals. I
- 10:28Speaker 5: don't really have time to sit around and think about
- 10:31Speaker 5: what ignorance is spreading or argue about ignorance, or I
- 10:33Speaker 5: have distructions about ignorance, Like when a distression we always
- 10:37Speaker 5: have on the shows and people will be on our
- 10:39Speaker 5: comments talk about oh, I'm tired of genderbent and race
- 10:41Speaker 5: bent characters, et cetera. And I'm like, well that's you.
- 10:44Speaker 5: Keep on moving, bro. I don't have time for that
- 10:45Speaker 5: distression ever in my life ever.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Again. You know I'm not and.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I don't want to correct your words, but I want
- 10:52Speaker 2: to just build upon something you just said. We're not
- 10:55Speaker 2: in an echo chamber, Ben, because as the discussion was last.
- 10:58Speaker 4: Week, no, that was definitely not an echo chain across right.
- 11:00Speaker 1: About different aspects.
- 11:02Speaker 2: What is true, though, is what you said about having
- 11:04Speaker 2: this conversation with like minded people people who are not
- 11:07Speaker 2: in it, control people who are not in it to
- 11:08Speaker 2: just be bigots and things like that. I think that's
- 11:11Speaker 2: what's important, why, that's what people have to understand, and
- 11:13Speaker 2: that it's also a dog whistle to say that it's
- 11:16Speaker 2: an echo chamber, like that's not what none of this is.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Just because that we actually see shit for what it
- 11:20Speaker 2: is and we break it down critically and we use
- 11:22Speaker 2: our brains does not mean as an echo chamber.
- 11:25Speaker 1: So I think that's some distinction to make.
- 11:28Speaker 6: Something else I wanted to say that I've been thinking
- 11:29Speaker 6: about since last week, is that your audience, this audience,
- 11:34Speaker 6: this for all nerds. Audience is filled with a variety
- 11:37Speaker 6: of different people at a variety different of levels of
- 11:40Speaker 6: abilities to at varying levels of critical analysis. You know
- 11:46Speaker 6: what I'm saying, and you don't want to We all
- 11:49Speaker 6: the four of us here have come to this at
- 11:51Speaker 6: varying levels of critical analysis. We don't want to water
- 11:54Speaker 6: things down just because of the fear that somebody might
- 11:58Speaker 6: take something that we said and come to me something
- 12:01Speaker 6: else is there's nothing wrong with speaking to that. There's
- 12:03Speaker 6: nothing wrong if you want to say what you have
- 12:05Speaker 6: to say and then also break it down in smaller
- 12:07Speaker 6: bites so that people can get it cool. But we
- 12:09Speaker 6: should not be afraid to say the shit that we
- 12:12Speaker 6: know is right, the shit that we know makes sense,
- 12:15Speaker 6: just because somebody else is going to miss the nuance,
- 12:17Speaker 6: or somebody else is gonna conflate it in some bullshit
- 12:20Speaker 6: or try and turn it around and flip it around
- 12:22Speaker 6: on us, you know what I'm saying. So we just
- 12:24Speaker 6: don't want to be We don't want to get into
- 12:25Speaker 6: a frenzy over what our haters are gonna say.
- 12:30Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I pretty much like with Todd Jowna says
- 12:33Speaker 5: fuck the haters. I also don't for the most part.
- 12:35Speaker 5: Don't think of them like that because I've had one
- 12:39Speaker 5: last thing, Like I even was just trusting this with
- 12:42Speaker 5: my therapist today and it's I'm not here to educate,
- 12:46Speaker 5: you know, idiots. I'm not here to change somebody's mind.
- 12:48Speaker 5: Like you said, Genisi. We have an audience who I'm
- 12:52Speaker 5: here to talk to to distruss things with. But I'm
- 12:55Speaker 5: not here to, you know, just for people who are,
- 12:59Speaker 5: say there on the fence, because if you're on the
- 13:00Speaker 5: fence as a grown person, I.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Really don't believe you.
- 13:02Speaker 5: You know, it's like you you've made you choices at
- 13:05Speaker 5: this point in life, and so I'm here to talk
- 13:07Speaker 5: about things that I love and distress it with people
- 13:10Speaker 5: who love it.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Other than that, it's like, you know, we.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Can keep it moving, So let's keep it moving.
- 13:14Speaker 2: We want to talk about episode four and you talked
- 13:17Speaker 2: about choices, Ben and that terrible ass repass was a choice.
- 13:22Speaker 4: Why was it terrible?
- 13:24Speaker 2: They didn't really do it do it right? For my
- 13:26Speaker 2: man's John.
- 13:29Speaker 1: They had a lot.
- 13:30Speaker 5: More money, like they definitely have dollars right now, like
- 13:34Speaker 5: they have funds.
- 13:35Speaker 4: And they sat him in the bar and ordered.
- 13:37Speaker 6: Some wild that was out the boxes. They ain't even play.
- 13:43Speaker 2: The piece shake Coolay's catherin for Magic Poor Magic Poor
- 13:47Speaker 2: showed up and said, so, can y'all say something nice.
- 13:50Speaker 4: About Yah.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Tieving and b and doing criminal activities for who knows
- 13:59Speaker 2: years at this point months.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Has he been months? I think it's been months.
- 14:04Speaker 2: You're doing crimes with your Hood Red friends for three four,
- 14:07Speaker 2: five months. You had nothing nice to say about each other.
- 14:10Speaker 2: And they looked at each other like.
- 14:13Speaker 5: Clown headfirst into the table like episodes ago. You know,
- 14:17Speaker 5: you know.
- 14:18Speaker 4: She was she was not. I was just like, well, I.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Can't it was terrible.
- 14:25Speaker 5: They hated that nigga bad Like I think he's one
- 14:28Speaker 5: of the best actors on the show.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh yeah.
- 14:33Speaker 5: I remember seeing him in Good Girls and just his
- 14:36Speaker 5: his presence. You almost kind of think about him him
- 14:41Speaker 5: being the Hood a little bit.
- 14:42Speaker 4: But I think that is the right casting.
- 14:45Speaker 5: Because it's it's he's somebody who I guess he I
- 14:49Speaker 5: don't know the agent real life, but he reads older
- 14:52Speaker 5: and and why the why Hood would look up to him,
- 14:56Speaker 5: My Parker Parker would look up to him, and just
- 14:59Speaker 5: and and really so his death and I think one
- 15:02Speaker 5: of the things that I appreciate about this series as
- 15:04Speaker 5: a whole.
- 15:05Speaker 4: It's a mini series, and it treats it treats things like.
- 15:10Speaker 7: A mini series where like anybody can get it, and
- 15:13Speaker 7: just because you like this character, just because this character
- 15:17Speaker 7: is is oh I like this character, and it's like, oh,
- 15:20Speaker 7: he's gone now, and now everybody has to deal with
- 15:23Speaker 7: the aftermath of his death. And it's something that you know,
- 15:27Speaker 7: I think trauma is a really big thing in this show,
- 15:31Speaker 7: which I was pleasantly like astounded by, you know, for
- 15:37Speaker 7: a lot of characters, not just really yeah.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Yeah for them.
- 15:40Speaker 2: I'm glad you mentioned that about trauma being like a
- 15:43Speaker 2: huge theme along this this mini series, because first of all,
- 15:47Speaker 2: that's a deeper theme that's not often visited in Marvel
- 15:50Speaker 2: projects number one and then certainly not one that that
- 15:53Speaker 2: has a short least at least for season one and
- 15:57Speaker 2: hopefully there'd becent two, but a shorter lifespan where you
- 16:00Speaker 2: don't think that they're going to allow the space for that.
- 16:02Speaker 2: But then that I had mentioned before episodes back, that
- 16:05Speaker 2: it gives more humanities to the characters, whether they're they're quote,
- 16:09Speaker 2: you know, the bad guy or the good guy or
- 16:11Speaker 2: the in between person. You still see that there are
- 16:14Speaker 2: layers to them. They're just not a flat, you know,
- 16:16Speaker 2: flat one note character. And I think that's what I mean,
- 16:21Speaker 2: that's part of what makes these stories good, right, having
- 16:23Speaker 2: the tragedy or having you have to have some sort
- 16:25Speaker 2: of conflict there, right, And in this case, it is
- 16:27Speaker 2: that trauma that so many people in this show are
- 16:30Speaker 2: experiencing on multiple levels. And I just think that makes
- 16:33Speaker 2: it even stronger because it gives you more depth to these.
- 16:36Speaker 1: People, makes you actually care about what's going on.
- 16:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't even think about how the memorial is
- 16:41Speaker 5: trying to try.
- 16:42Speaker 6: It's funny everything, you know.
- 16:46Speaker 2: I had a crazy I had a crazy trip back
- 16:49Speaker 2: today on the planes and stuff, and so I had
- 16:51Speaker 2: a chance to kind of just scrub through everything again
- 16:53Speaker 2: and I was just like, damn, that was a.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Terrible last time.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Like there was no food or nothing like well what
- 16:59Speaker 2: I mean said cold piece or whatever. It just it
- 17:02Speaker 2: was just funny to me, but more indicative of like,
- 17:04Speaker 2: y'all thingts don't really have a plan, like it was,
- 17:06Speaker 2: like it made it more apparently this is just a
- 17:09Speaker 2: slap slap shot like just thrown together ragtag team that
- 17:15Speaker 2: you know, like like a like a broke down Oces
- 17:17Speaker 2: eleven type shit. And I don't know if that was
- 17:19Speaker 2: on purpose or otherwise, but like it was just like y'all,
- 17:23Speaker 2: I think its don't know what y'all do when like
- 17:25Speaker 2: it's a bunch of individuals. Yeah, it's not exactly a team.
- 17:30Speaker 2: And then you know later on you see how them individuals,
- 17:33Speaker 2: it's like, wo a minute, they didn't one a.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Minute they not?
- 17:35Speaker 5: So I mean, this is not the edgement, Like, this
- 17:38Speaker 5: is not where they've been raised with Charles and Xavior,
- 17:41Speaker 5: you know, and this ain't even the second Edgeman Wolverine
- 17:43Speaker 5: where they're grown and they all had their own thing going.
- 17:46Speaker 4: On and they came together as a team.
- 17:47Speaker 5: But this might be like that, but they never get
- 17:49Speaker 5: a chance to form that bombs because there's no real
- 17:52Speaker 5: Charles and Savior here.
- 17:53Speaker 4: It's a bad magnito impression, I guess.
- 17:55Speaker 5: And no, I just thought I didn't realize how trash
- 18:00Speaker 5: his memorial was. But I did like the opening scene
- 18:03Speaker 5: where it shows John's saving Carter and then how that
- 18:06Speaker 5: went into the memorial scene because I thought that was
- 18:09Speaker 5: a great flashback and a great last chance for a
- 18:11Speaker 5: dude to give some great acting and once again, like
- 18:14Speaker 5: you said Chris, for you to see why Carter looks
- 18:17Speaker 5: up to him and why the loss of John is
- 18:19Speaker 5: going to drive Carter completely over the edge as it does.
- 18:24Speaker 2: No, it does, and with Parker I was laughing also
- 18:28Speaker 2: how he was plotting on Rere like you saw that
- 18:30Speaker 2: like that, that the influence of the Hood and all
- 18:33Speaker 2: this other stuff just really got to him in that space.
- 18:35Speaker 2: And then you could again, I think Anthony Ramos, he's
- 18:38Speaker 2: done in the excellent like he's leveled up in this
- 18:41Speaker 2: role to be able to be palpable with.
- 18:43Speaker 1: The tension and then really show like he ain't up
- 18:46Speaker 1: to no good.
- 18:47Speaker 2: I think, again, something that has been sorely lacking out
- 18:49Speaker 2: of Marvel for.
- 18:50Speaker 4: A long time. GENC, you had something.
- 18:52Speaker 6: Yeah. I think they opened this episode with Reread and
- 18:55Speaker 6: Natalie back at her house, right, is that that's how
- 18:59Speaker 6: it starts, and Natalie is kind of trying to console
- 19:01Speaker 6: rereover John. Uh that's his name, John, John's murder.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Oh oh you're talking about AI Natalie?
- 19:10Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, anyway, I might have maybe I said this
- 19:12Speaker 6: last week. I don't know, but I appreciated the way
- 19:15Speaker 6: that Natalie was trying to bring Rere back to reality
- 19:19Speaker 6: because is being real hard on herself. I appreciated the
- 19:22Speaker 6: friendship and the ability of Natalie to kind of be
- 19:25Speaker 6: the voice of comfort and reason, and it kind of
- 19:28Speaker 6: brought to light like their relationship and the ways in
- 19:32Speaker 6: which Natalie is kind of a manifestation of WERI you
- 19:36Speaker 6: know what I'm saying, So like Wiree is experiencing this
- 19:40Speaker 6: kind of self doubt, negative self talk about I mean,
- 19:44Speaker 6: it was a really traumatic thing to kill that man
- 19:47Speaker 6: when she probably could have wrapped him.
- 19:48Speaker 2: But I listened to you talk about that. But in
- 19:53Speaker 2: the heat of the moment though, and we all know
- 19:56Speaker 2: Reb's a very tunnel vision person.
- 19:58Speaker 6: I think like, honestly, for somebody who was worried that
- 20:01Speaker 6: a cop almost died, when she almost died, I feel
- 20:04Speaker 6: like that character who was worried about that cop would
- 20:07Speaker 6: have went back and got that boy, got John out
- 20:09Speaker 6: the out the thing. You know what I'm saying. It
- 20:11Speaker 6: just it doesn't track for what they've been trying to
- 20:13Speaker 6: convince us, like, it just didn't. It didn't add up
- 20:17Speaker 6: for me in that moment.
- 20:18Speaker 4: You know, I don't think she was you know that
- 20:20Speaker 4: he got that.
- 20:21Speaker 6: Yeah, No, that's that's fair to go ahead.
- 20:23Speaker 4: To the hood. He knew that she had that piece
- 20:27Speaker 4: of the hood, so she.
- 20:29Speaker 1: You know, I mean, he did try to kill her,
- 20:30Speaker 1: So yeah.
- 20:30Speaker 4: He's trying to kill her. So he's like, oh, he
- 20:32Speaker 4: left him in there.
- 20:33Speaker 5: Sorry, I don't know, I don't know. No, I agree
- 20:41Speaker 5: with Genisia all sudden, know, like, no, I wouldn't say that.
- 20:46Speaker 5: I don't think that really was as concerned with the cop.
- 20:50Speaker 5: But I get it. It's a cop, I get it.
- 20:53Speaker 6: But it was also sorry, it was also in a
- 20:55Speaker 6: moment where she almost died. That's why to me, when
- 20:58Speaker 6: she's like somebody almost did, it's just felt so, you know,
- 21:02Speaker 6: so you almost died to what about? Right, and in
- 21:04Speaker 6: that moment you're working. Okay, So this is actually a
- 21:07Speaker 6: perfect example because this was a moment where she almost died.
- 21:10Speaker 6: It was a lot of things happening in that moment, right,
- 21:13Speaker 6: So in a moment where she almost died, she's worried
- 21:15Speaker 6: that this cop was almost killed or whatever, right, and
- 21:19Speaker 6: in a moment where she was almost dying, now they
- 21:23Speaker 6: leave John in there to die. You know, It's just
- 21:25Speaker 6: it's just you know, I don't know. I get the
- 21:27Speaker 6: point that she couldn't breathe, I get it, but it did.
- 21:30Speaker 4: I don't think.
- 21:31Speaker 5: I think the suit leaves John and there to die
- 21:33Speaker 5: and she's just trying in the suit. Yeah, I Metie
- 21:37Speaker 5: is really about like, that's why Natalie.
- 21:41Speaker 4: Intentionally like that made her choice, That is that has made.
- 21:46Speaker 2: It Natalie AI's prime directive is to protect three at all.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Costs, so much higher in that moment as well too.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Of course, of course I will say that episode four,
- 21:59Speaker 2: especially on the first one, it was one of my
- 22:01Speaker 2: maybe one of the most favorite episodes for me, because
- 22:03Speaker 2: of the huge introduction of the magic mixed with the
- 22:10Speaker 2: Yeah not like we've seen the magic in MCU, but really, like, again,
- 22:15Speaker 2: for such a short mini series, for them to be
- 22:18Speaker 2: able to really have a fleshed out like detour literally
- 22:23Speaker 2: a spinning detour into a magic world, that shit was
- 22:26Speaker 2: fire to me. Like for them to be able to
- 22:28Speaker 2: build it up in such a short amount of time
- 22:31Speaker 2: and it still makes sense and it didn't feel.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Rush to me. It just felt like it was a fully.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Built world that was always in the background and that
- 22:37Speaker 2: was the point, right, Just like how like when you
- 22:39Speaker 2: watch the Doctor Strains films, how there's this other world
- 22:41Speaker 2: going on back there that you just don't see they
- 22:44Speaker 2: lift the veil a little bit, you know, they go
- 22:45Speaker 2: into the mirror and they you know, they in the
- 22:47Speaker 2: mirror verse, whatever the fuck they are at the time,
- 22:49Speaker 2: it's the same situation, like the magic is always there,
- 22:52Speaker 2: the magic is happening all around you, and now we're
- 22:54Speaker 2: going to pull you into the space. And it it
- 22:57Speaker 2: felt for the way Revea and her mom when they
- 23:00Speaker 2: like when they went to that shop and met Zelma
- 23:02Speaker 2: and it met up with Madeline and like you could
- 23:06Speaker 2: that that shocked feeling, like what the fuck does happened?
- 23:08Speaker 1: I felt that, And I think that's good writing.
- 23:11Speaker 2: I think for you to be put into the shoes
- 23:13Speaker 2: of the main character and be able to feel like
- 23:16Speaker 2: the shifts like that those are And I don't know
- 23:19Speaker 2: if webc magic like that before, but that's a major
- 23:22Speaker 2: shift away from everything she's known as far as I know,
- 23:24Speaker 2: I don't know if she seeing doctor Strange doing his.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Ship or whatever.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Really, I know she's been with Makana and then, but
- 23:31Speaker 2: that's still tech. Yeah, so you know, yes, it's spirituality,
- 23:34Speaker 2: but it's also tech. So I I think that was
- 23:37Speaker 2: the first time so for her to be like hey, yo,
- 23:39Speaker 2: like I felt that.
- 23:41Speaker 6: I love that and I love that her mom has
- 23:44Speaker 6: always been kind of woo woo, you know what I'm saying.
- 23:47Speaker 6: So when the girl is like, you know, she throws
- 23:50Speaker 6: that thing and she's like, oh, I'm reading, uh, I'm
- 23:52Speaker 6: reading tea leave, the mom is like, oh, yeah, I
- 23:54Speaker 6: could do that, and then she throws it on the
- 23:55Speaker 6: glass and she's like, oh no, no, never mind, not like
- 23:57Speaker 6: not like that. That's that's something else. That's something else.
- 24:00Speaker 6: Like how they blended in that aspect of like real
- 24:03Speaker 6: life conjure with the magic of the Marvel universe. That
- 24:07Speaker 6: was dope facts.
- 24:08Speaker 2: And I don't want to also bring up something you
- 24:09Speaker 2: said before, which was so strong in this episode, just
- 24:13Speaker 2: seeing Chree Summers, like seeing her not just her voice,
- 24:16Speaker 2: seeing her and seeing her essentially play herself in a
- 24:19Speaker 2: little bit because you said you use the term she
- 24:21Speaker 2: kind of wo She.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Always been kind of a and all that stuff.
- 24:24Speaker 2: So you know, she came in with the Gandolf had
- 24:26Speaker 2: and I'm like, yes, this is this is what I
- 24:28Speaker 2: want to see, and like it just felt natural. It
- 24:31Speaker 2: didn't feel like people play in a character. It just
- 24:33Speaker 2: felt like, this is what these people like, this is
- 24:36Speaker 2: how they move in life. And it was just and
- 24:38Speaker 2: that's the other part about the whole bringing the magic
- 24:40Speaker 2: in it. It was strong and how it was built
- 24:42Speaker 2: and it's fun. Like that's why I like Doctor at
- 24:45Speaker 2: least the other ones. I liked the Doctor Strams films
- 24:47Speaker 2: because it brought an element of fun and just weird
- 24:50Speaker 2: mysticism to it that you just wasn't seeing with all
- 24:54Speaker 2: the practical stuff.
- 24:55Speaker 6: Yes, and the youthfulness of the girl, so what's the
- 24:58Speaker 6: young host Zelma. The youthfulness of Zelma reminded me because
- 25:03Speaker 6: re Re is doing all kind of like grown up shit.
- 25:06Speaker 6: It reminded me that re Re is a kid, you
- 25:09Speaker 6: know what I'm saying, right right, So the parallel of
- 25:13Speaker 6: the two moms and the two daughters in this teenagers
- 25:17Speaker 6: in this scenario kind of helped to reground things in
- 25:21Speaker 6: terms of like, Okay, these are kids playing with like
- 25:24Speaker 6: for real intense grown up shit, you know.
- 25:28Speaker 5: Yeah, casually distressing Dormamu, which is in the fifth episode.
- 25:32Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 25:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:33Speaker 5: I really love this too, because we talked about this
- 25:36Speaker 5: last week, how it into how this series has grown
- 25:40Speaker 5: this whole world around Reread, full of all these characters
- 25:43Speaker 5: that we've never seen before, and a lot of them
- 25:45Speaker 5: are very well developed, especially like Zelma and Madeline. Yep, yeah,
- 25:50Speaker 5: because I love how there's all this stuff like, oh,
- 25:52Speaker 5: you could have raised me, you know, commatage, you know,
- 25:57Speaker 5: and then there's all the little mentions of you know,
- 26:00Speaker 5: you see her performing magic in the same way that
- 26:03Speaker 5: Doctor Strange and others.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Have done second nature.
- 26:05Speaker 5: And then that was the other thing I loved the
- 26:07Speaker 5: second nature about it is how her mom, like you said,
- 26:10Speaker 5: not only is her mom, you know, got her own
- 26:13Speaker 5: version of magic, but just how accepting both her mom
- 26:16Speaker 5: and Rere are of this because they.
- 26:18Speaker 4: Live in the Marvel universe. And that's what's really great
- 26:21Speaker 4: writing to me.
- 26:21Speaker 5: It's like they're not sitting there like, oh my god,
- 26:23Speaker 5: you know what, I'm running around the magic room like.
- 26:25Speaker 6: What just happened?
- 26:26Speaker 4: Oh no, no, what's this is? More like, Okay, that
- 26:28Speaker 4: was a little weird that happened.
- 26:30Speaker 5: But I guess I always knew you were kind of magical,
- 26:34Speaker 5: you know, free, and now I know you really are,
- 26:36Speaker 5: and of course your daughter is. And you know, we've
- 26:39Speaker 5: all seen Doctor Strange on television at this point for
- 26:42Speaker 5: years upon years, I'm sure s Charlotte Witch and most
- 26:45Speaker 5: of the other you know, quite a few known magic.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Usuma said that like when it happened, and and Reevee's
- 26:52Speaker 2: mom was like, what the fuck?
- 26:53Speaker 1: She was just like, well, y'all never heard of the niggas.
- 26:55Speaker 4: I was like, yeah, you have to.
- 26:57Speaker 2: And again this goes back to what we say about
- 26:59Speaker 2: the continuity of the MCU. Acknowledge that should happens, acknowledge
- 27:02Speaker 2: that there's a fucking celestial and then see you know
- 27:04Speaker 2: something like that, like you gotta because this happens, has happened,
- 27:08Speaker 2: and let's let's live and have the character speak on
- 27:10Speaker 2: things as if this should happen.
- 27:12Speaker 4: Yeah, could they.
- 27:13Speaker 5: All live in a very insane world and that's why
- 27:15Speaker 5: you know they have to acknowledge.
- 27:17Speaker 2: These things, right, Chris, did you have any to say
- 27:20Speaker 2: about just the magic and how you felt about all that?
- 27:23Speaker 7: I kind of just echoing what you said earlier. I
- 27:25Speaker 7: really loved seeing Cree Summer. I love the just very
- 27:27Speaker 7: naturalistic acting, just being able to juxtapose that magical aspect
- 27:35Speaker 7: and have it grounded as well as just like a
- 27:37Speaker 7: mother and daughter kind of having this conversation with exposition
- 27:42Speaker 7: about their life and still being connected to what's going on.
- 27:46Speaker 4: I thought I thought it was great.
- 27:48Speaker 5: Yeah, it's just and and then you know, just as
- 27:50Speaker 5: a fan of a different world and all that, you know,
- 27:52Speaker 5: it's just great to see Crese Summer hadn't seen her,
- 27:55Speaker 5: I don't remember since maybe at Atlanta, the Atlanta finale. Yeah,
- 28:00Speaker 5: she's also been on Abbit Elnry she's yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:08Speaker 4: So she's been doing great on there. So yeah, just
- 28:10Speaker 4: grounded performances.
- 28:11Speaker 7: It's just just like they people just step into these
- 28:14Speaker 7: parts and give full of last performances.
- 28:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:18Speaker 5: Sarah Hawley, I think that's her last name, Sarah Finn Hawley,
- 28:21Speaker 5: the casting director of Marvel. We've mentioned her for a
- 28:25Speaker 5: few times and she's a goddamn legend.
- 28:28Speaker 4: You know.
- 28:28Speaker 5: I will give her praises at every opportunity. I said
- 28:32Speaker 5: it on Threads the other day that she's the most
- 28:34Speaker 5: important part of the MCU because her casting so the
- 28:38Speaker 5: daughter is Madeline, right, Yeah, it's like you just gave
- 28:44Speaker 5: this young actress a role and I can see her,
- 28:48Speaker 5: you know, being right alongside Reread until the end of
- 28:51Speaker 5: the MCU. Now, Like it's just the way that they
- 28:53Speaker 5: keep establishing all these characters and given these actors roles,
- 28:58Speaker 5: actors and actresses roles.
- 28:59Speaker 4: It's just absolutely amazing.
- 29:02Speaker 6: Facts, fact facts.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Also in this episode, we see Ezekiel Stain become what I.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Call white lightning.
- 29:10Speaker 2: So he the hey, they put the ships in him,
- 29:14Speaker 2: and now he got the lightning coming out his fingertips.
- 29:16Speaker 5: So I want to say, Black common Nerd has a
- 29:20Speaker 5: video where he dispels the myth that there is a
- 29:26Speaker 5: large percentage of heroes of black heroes with lightning powers.
- 29:31Speaker 5: And I didn't watch the video.
- 29:33Speaker 4: I'm just like, yeah, whatever, be don't give me that truth.
- 29:35Speaker 4: I know the lots is real.
- 29:38Speaker 6: It's fucking hair.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Come, Ezekiel, he's you know, you know what I mean
- 29:41Speaker 2: when they say we got everybody in Mark, He's the
- 29:43Speaker 2: mark in this situation. You know, it's all right, well,
- 29:45Speaker 2: you know, the one white guy.
- 29:47Speaker 6: But I guess he leveled up. I mean with level up,
- 29:50Speaker 6: I mean he I mean, do anybody care? I really
- 29:57Speaker 6: was okay? So the only thing Georgia, Yeah, I like
- 30:03Speaker 6: the connection to Obadiah. And then that's where it starts
- 30:09Speaker 6: for me. We spent so much time. There was so
- 30:13Speaker 6: many other things that could have been done with the
- 30:15Speaker 6: time that we spent making sure that this was a
- 30:18Speaker 6: fully fleshed out, kind but stressed out white man, It
- 30:22Speaker 6: was just too much time on this guy who's not
- 30:27Speaker 6: a big enough character even in this universe. Like the
- 30:30Speaker 6: payoff for all this building that we did for this
- 30:32Speaker 6: white man is not even that great, and honestly we
- 30:36Speaker 6: didn't even leverage all right, So so he gets his
- 30:40Speaker 6: strength from uh Re, his inner white woman, his inner
- 30:43Speaker 6: black woman, right, he gets that strength. The payoff for
- 30:48Speaker 6: that should be for me, Like when when Hood has
- 30:54Speaker 6: him like doing his deeds, like doing his bidding, that
- 30:57Speaker 6: should be funnier. That should be funnier. That shit should
- 31:01Speaker 6: lean into more like I got this white man like no,
- 31:03Speaker 6: you're gonna do what I told you kind of stuff
- 31:05Speaker 6: like this shit. If I have to spend so much
- 31:08Speaker 6: time learning about this white man's doubts about himself and
- 31:12Speaker 6: how much he wants to help but he's conflicted, and
- 31:15Speaker 6: there was so much time spent with this, give me
- 31:19Speaker 6: the payoff of like laughing, Like I should know him
- 31:23Speaker 6: well enough to see why it's so funny that the
- 31:26Speaker 6: Hood is controlling him. There should be some comedy in there.
- 31:29Speaker 6: There's also a power imbalance there that can that should
- 31:32Speaker 6: be played up or power. There's some shit going on there,
- 31:35Speaker 6: some dynamics going on there that could be played up
- 31:38Speaker 6: for laughs for my personal benefit because I had to sit.
- 31:41Speaker 6: I had to sit as a black girl watching it
- 31:43Speaker 6: showed us about the black girl. And we spent so
- 31:46Speaker 6: much time on this freaking white man that that we
- 31:49Speaker 6: could have spent We could have spent that real estate
- 31:51Speaker 6: doing other shit, you know what I'm saying. So now
- 31:53Speaker 6: we have the hood who we later learned was kicked
- 31:57Speaker 6: out of his home, dealt with all types of bullshit
- 31:59Speaker 6: or whatever ever, has been yearning for a certain type
- 32:02Speaker 6: of power that he now gets or whatever. We have
- 32:04Speaker 6: this this freaking Exekiel who's a millionaire who lives in
- 32:07Speaker 6: his modest ass house so that he can build fucking
- 32:11Speaker 6: war machines on the loaf for his own personal delight
- 32:14Speaker 6: and fulfillment. You know what I'm saying.
- 32:16Speaker 2: That should that should have been played up for laughs,
- 32:19Speaker 2: and and we got I didn't.
- 32:20Speaker 6: I didn't get enough from that. It was like his
- 32:23Speaker 6: whole purpose there was like this is a nice conflicted
- 32:27Speaker 6: white boy. Let's spend a lot of time with him,
- 32:29Speaker 6: so that you niggas could argue about all the time
- 32:31Speaker 6: you didn't spend on other stuff. No, all right, I'm done. Yeah,
- 32:36Speaker 6: his existence. The amount of time spent was infuriating.
- 32:41Speaker 7: Oh wow, I think of it like that.
- 32:44Speaker 6: Why that's what I do, Chris, you know that.
- 32:48Speaker 4: No, I'm aware.
- 32:51Speaker 7: I think though I thought that scene it was an
- 32:55Speaker 7: episode five or six when he meets his when we
- 32:57Speaker 7: meet Parker's dad, that's later on that.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Okay, that's the last episode.
- 33:03Speaker 4: Okay, so we can't tell that. No, we mean we meet.
- 33:06Speaker 6: Down in five, don't we meet him?
- 33:07Speaker 2: But you know, but you know what, Denisia, when you
- 33:09Speaker 2: said what was the purpose and all that, and it's
- 33:11Speaker 2: actually a really simple purpose and whope.
- 33:13Speaker 1: I mean, this is the only thing that makes sense
- 33:14Speaker 1: to me.
- 33:15Speaker 2: It was to give her like a B level rival
- 33:19Speaker 2: that can always pop up, because.
- 33:21Speaker 6: Yeah, but B level doesn't deserve that amount of time.
- 33:25Speaker 1: I know.
- 33:25Speaker 6: That's that's what that's the issue.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Like like, Okay, well i'll get you next time, my
- 33:30Speaker 2: pretty type ship.
- 33:31Speaker 6: I could have did that in half the time.
- 33:33Speaker 1: I think it's nothing else makes sense.
- 33:35Speaker 6: Well, that doesn't make sense either.
- 33:37Speaker 4: I say.
- 33:39Speaker 7: I'm just gonna say, as a black man, I agree
- 33:42Speaker 7: with both of you black women, and I think I
- 33:46Speaker 7: think you're right. Uh, Tatiana, where adversarial character before you
- 33:52Speaker 7: get to the Big bad and and I think that confrontation,
- 33:56Speaker 7: I really, I know, I just don't want to go
- 33:58Speaker 7: skip ahead too much. But yeah, conversation they have later
- 34:01Speaker 7: on in the series was good. And it's when you
- 34:04Speaker 7: think that they're supposed to be this trust built that
- 34:09Speaker 7: Reread and he have and then for it to be broken.
- 34:12Speaker 7: You could see that the anger that he has towards
- 34:15Speaker 7: re Read later on. But I understand what you're saying.
- 34:19Speaker 7: They could have used that time to develop me.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Let me ask you a question, DENISEA.
- 34:22Speaker 2: How did you feel when re read restately or otherwise
- 34:26Speaker 2: did well mistakenly did exactly what Ezekiel asked her not
- 34:30Speaker 2: to do.
- 34:30Speaker 6: Have you ever helped to parent a teenager? Yes, it
- 34:36Speaker 6: was giving that it was giving, this is what teenagers,
- 34:39Speaker 6: This is.
- 34:39Speaker 1: What teenagers doing, and he told.
- 34:40Speaker 6: Them exactly what to do. You believe in them. Their
- 34:43Speaker 6: teenagers are in this awkward space between childhood and adulthood,
- 34:48Speaker 6: and you're starting to see them as somebody who can
- 34:50Speaker 6: think for themselves and do and make choices, and you
- 34:52Speaker 6: trust them and they let you down because sometimes because
- 34:55Speaker 6: they're a freaking teenager, you know what I'm saying. So
- 34:58Speaker 6: I thought that he was on the right track, Ezekiel,
- 35:02Speaker 6: when he was like, you know, you're just a teen
- 35:04Speaker 6: and you're out for yourself and dad. He was on
- 35:06Speaker 6: the right track. Then once he got juiced up on
- 35:09Speaker 6: the steroids, on the electricity steroids, it seemed like a
- 35:12Speaker 6: like the energy, I get the anger. Okay, she helped
- 35:16Speaker 6: to ruin your life. That you had your cushy life
- 35:19Speaker 6: where you able to hide secretly and you know, use
- 35:22Speaker 6: the name or whatever because you're a white man and
- 35:24Speaker 6: you can do anything right. She messed that up for you.
- 35:28Speaker 6: But the rage and the anger, it was bigger than
- 35:32Speaker 6: the real issue, which is that she's a freaking teenager
- 35:36Speaker 6: and she's making teenager choices and you know, playing checkers
- 35:40Speaker 6: on the chessboard.
- 35:42Speaker 5: Yes, and I do agree with everyone so far, and like,
- 35:46Speaker 5: even though I liked him when he was introduced in
- 35:49Speaker 5: the first few episodes, I did feel like there was
- 35:50Speaker 5: too much time spent on him in these three episodes.
- 35:53Speaker 5: But in his defense and in the writer's defense, I
- 35:56Speaker 5: will say that, you know, if you go to prison,
- 35:59Speaker 5: I'm gonna be quite upset, you know, like I've been incarcerated,
- 36:03Speaker 5: one of the worst things ever. And so if someone
- 36:05Speaker 5: teenager or not. I don't give damned dog you seen me.
- 36:10Speaker 4: President's also done.
- 36:11Speaker 5: You know my life, Like you said, put all my
- 36:14Speaker 5: secrets on blast, but you sent me to prison. So
- 36:17Speaker 5: that's quite upsetting. And that's something that does happen in
- 36:20Speaker 5: this episode. Now, his reactions and White Lightning, which we'll
- 36:24Speaker 5: get into more in episode five and six, I was
- 36:27Speaker 5: not very impressed with. I would have preferred to see
- 36:29Speaker 5: him build some type of suit. I know the white
- 36:31Speaker 5: Lightning is from the comics, but it just did not
- 36:33Speaker 5: do it for me.
- 36:34Speaker 3: And the.
- 36:38Speaker 6: Lightning I was just about to say his name for
- 36:41Speaker 6: real white Lightning.
- 36:44Speaker 5: In the comics sees Ezekiel Stain, and I think he
- 36:47Speaker 5: has some name when he gets.
- 36:49Speaker 2: And I pull it up when he does start utilizing
- 36:52Speaker 2: his problems. But it's literally the same thing that happened
- 36:54Speaker 2: in the show, almost exactly she happened in the books.
- 36:57Speaker 2: So where he put all that technic he's doing in
- 37:00Speaker 2: him and you know, become his own bio weapon.
- 37:03Speaker 5: Now, something else had happened in this episode that I
- 37:05Speaker 5: didn't want to bring up because it addresses the point
- 37:07Speaker 5: that a lot of people have had with this. And
- 37:10Speaker 5: I saw a lot of comments through the first three episodes,
- 37:12Speaker 5: is why didn't re read just call up Shurry, bro.
- 37:16Speaker 6: That's on my list of ship that's on my listenship too.
- 37:19Speaker 6: And it's culturally inaccurate. It's culturally inaccurate that she would
- 37:24Speaker 6: not have hit her up. And to some degree, the
- 37:27Speaker 6: only excuse, the only excuse that I could think of
- 37:31Speaker 6: for her not hitting up Shurry at any point in time,
- 37:35Speaker 6: would be the teenager bullshit.
- 37:37Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, Like they're just not thinking
- 37:41Speaker 2: that reason.
- 37:43Speaker 4: Yeah, we know, ta, yeah we know the real reason.
- 37:46Speaker 5: But also okay, now let me ask this, like, at
- 37:49Speaker 5: what point would you say, okay, I should call Shuri right.
- 37:54Speaker 6: Because immediately in every episode let.
- 37:57Speaker 4: Me finish it. Okay, let me finish.
- 37:59Speaker 5: But like once again, as a teenager, as somebody who's
- 38:02Speaker 5: you know, back in, Okay, let you get kicked out
- 38:04Speaker 5: of in my t you call shery in.
- 38:07Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Well, first of all, sure, and the and the and
- 38:10Speaker 1: the would have.
- 38:15Speaker 6: Me right.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Here's my thing. Here's my thing. She was literally she
- 38:20Speaker 1: reb was literally part of a fucking war.
- 38:22Speaker 6: In the coda against you helped save the nation?
- 38:26Speaker 5: Yes, so you don't think also helped cause the distabilation
- 38:31Speaker 5: of that nation by building the thing that got stolen.
- 38:34Speaker 4: Remember that, and she mentions that as well.
- 38:36Speaker 5: This is like, you're right, Yeah, she is, you know,
- 38:38Speaker 5: quite responsible for a lot of destruction herself, so she
- 38:42Speaker 5: has to hold that and that's her guilt too, which
- 38:45Speaker 5: that go back to because that's what I'm saying. It's like,
- 38:50Speaker 5: there's all you get kicked out of n I T
- 38:52Speaker 5: me personal. I would have called her right then, but
- 38:54Speaker 5: she doesn't. So then she goes home and starts building
- 38:56Speaker 5: the armor. John comes along and recruits her into this thing.
- 38:59Speaker 5: Now she doesn't once she does the first criminal ad,
- 39:02Speaker 5: it's to her it's pretty much too late to call her.
- 39:05Speaker 5: So when would you have called her?
- 39:09Speaker 6: Okay, you're making you're making valrus, Yeah, I would have.
- 39:13Speaker 6: I would have called immediately Episode one, I'm getting kicked
- 39:16Speaker 6: out of M. I T like, are you do you
- 39:18Speaker 6: know who I am?
- 39:19Speaker 4: Like?
- 39:19Speaker 6: I would have hit up sure with the buickness that
- 39:23Speaker 6: if that doesn't happen. So we're still in episode four.
- 39:26Speaker 6: But that point, which I think is episode five or six,
- 39:29Speaker 6: where she goes to her mom and she's like, I
- 39:31Speaker 6: need help. I'm scared. You was you didn't want to
- 39:34Speaker 6: talk to yourn. You didn't want to disturb your mom's
- 39:36Speaker 6: piece this whole time, and you're talking to your mom's
- 39:38Speaker 6: before you hit up. Surey, the most brilliant person that
- 39:41Speaker 6: you know?
- 39:41Speaker 4: Are you to your point? Anisia? Though, like the teenager stuff,
- 39:46Speaker 4: it's like, I don't know if I should.
- 39:48Speaker 5: She's gonna be mad at me if I call her.
- 39:52Speaker 1: But you're right, the teenager of mine won't think ahead.
- 39:55Speaker 2: It's just like, how do you know until you call
- 39:58Speaker 2: and let her cuss you out, be like girl ye,
- 40:00Speaker 2: and then by the.
- 40:01Speaker 5: Time she goes to her mom, she's way into deep.
- 40:04Speaker 5: She's done major criminal activities. I know, I know, I
- 40:11Speaker 5: know you don't like you know, you don't like calling
- 40:13Speaker 5: them criminal.
- 40:13Speaker 6: But to the well, no criminal, I don't like calling
- 40:17Speaker 6: them wrong. You know what I'm saying, Like I don't
- 40:19Speaker 6: know wrong, Like yeah, yeah, I.
- 40:23Speaker 4: Don't think they're wrong either.
- 40:24Speaker 7: There they're given circumstance.
- 40:27Speaker 6: But yeah, but I would have I would have definitely
- 40:31Speaker 6: given But that was also wait a second, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait,
- 40:36Speaker 6: So she has this Okay, so she's a teenager, but
- 40:39Speaker 6: also she has a whole community of black people that
- 40:42Speaker 6: knew she was down save help and save Wakanda. They
- 40:44Speaker 6: would have her mom would have said, listen, don't people
- 40:48Speaker 6: really know what happened?
- 40:49Speaker 5: Yeah, and they we're also I think that's something we
- 40:53Speaker 5: downplayed the last review.
- 40:55Speaker 1: I don't think I really knew about you.
- 40:56Speaker 4: Remember, like she went to war like these are like
- 41:01Speaker 4: her mom.
- 41:01Speaker 5: Even said, sorry, yeah, remember this is a war, like
- 41:05Speaker 5: you know, like we don't see all on screen, but
- 41:06Speaker 5: people massive people die et c right in front of
- 41:09Speaker 5: the teenager's face. So she's coming home from that as
- 41:13Speaker 5: we see shell shops still like she still has a
- 41:15Speaker 5: lot of trauma just from that, and so calling them up.
- 41:19Speaker 5: I don't think it's not I will say this because
- 41:21Speaker 5: I even had this issue in the trailer drop when
- 41:23Speaker 5: the professor starts barking on her in that first episode,
- 41:27Speaker 5: I'm like, fun, I went to Wakanda, like shut the
- 41:29Speaker 5: fuck up, you know, But.
- 41:31Speaker 6: But do they know that? And do they will?
- 41:34Speaker 5: They definitely don't know there was a war there all
- 41:36Speaker 5: that type of thing.
- 41:37Speaker 6: So yeah, y'all got me thinking about something else.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Could think about it, Like, it wasn't like it was advertised,
- 41:42Speaker 2: it wasn't CNN very you know.
- 41:45Speaker 6: I guess I assumed that her mom would know, but
- 41:47Speaker 6: her mom knew that she was at school, so you
- 41:49Speaker 6: know who knows what? Right?
- 41:51Speaker 5: And remember she got snatched out of school, went to war,
- 41:55Speaker 5: and then back to school.
- 41:57Speaker 6: That's what does road.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Whatever in Baltimore.
- 42:05Speaker 7: I'm just gonna say, most heroes have to eat that
- 42:07Speaker 7: stuff anyway, you know, just you have to eat that stuff.
- 42:10Speaker 4: I was in a war. They don't care. Nobody cares.
- 42:14Speaker 4: We know, the.
- 42:15Speaker 5: Oldbody cares in real life, you know what I mean.
- 42:18Speaker 5: You know that's for real. You go to war like
- 42:22Speaker 5: I've been to, you know, it's like it's like that
- 42:26Speaker 5: is the reaction.
- 42:26Speaker 4: Oh that's oh, that's crazy.
- 42:29Speaker 1: What I want to eat now?
- 42:30Speaker 6: Like what I do feel with all of her grief
- 42:33Speaker 6: and her mom being woo woo.
- 42:36Speaker 2: She would have been in therapy, you know what I'm saying,
- 42:39Speaker 2: Like somebody.
- 42:40Speaker 4: Is tight, money is tight, and you know, I mean
- 42:46Speaker 4: who was making bread?
- 42:48Speaker 2: But she had to turn to the criminal life for that,
- 42:49Speaker 2: And you're not going to talk to your therapist about
- 42:51Speaker 2: you know, I'm you know, I'm doing big crime. Like
- 42:53Speaker 2: you're not going to have that conversation.
- 42:55Speaker 6: I feel like I feel like somebody would have had
- 42:57Speaker 6: that girl in therapy, especially she's high profile, she's hot,
- 43:01Speaker 6: she might m my tea might have actually put her in.
- 43:05Speaker 2: But also, who's gonna make her like you gotta You
- 43:08Speaker 2: can't make her write like you say, we got this
- 43:11Speaker 2: all lined up for you.
- 43:11Speaker 1: She's gonna say, bet.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Ignore the funk out of you, right, that's her personality.
- 43:15Speaker 2: She's gonna do what the fuck she want to do.
- 43:16Speaker 2: As we keep seeing over and over and over again
- 43:19Speaker 2: every episode to the very end, I wanna.
- 43:21Speaker 7: Say, who had it worse? Re Read or Jania from
- 43:26Speaker 7: Tyler Perry.
- 43:27Speaker 4: Straw anybody in the Tyler Perry thing probably has the worst.
- 43:32Speaker 4: I don't even know what are you saying.
- 43:35Speaker 6: I saw you put that on social What do you think.
- 43:38Speaker 7: I don't know. It just made me think it. It's
- 43:41Speaker 7: I kind of feel like's got a lot mm hmmm,
- 43:46Speaker 7: because we're gonna find out, you know, we find out
- 43:48Speaker 7: a couple of I.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Mean, Jenia is not dealing with the world and ending
- 43:52Speaker 2: I mean her own personal world.
- 43:53Speaker 5: But then I go to war I gotta go reread.
- 43:55Speaker 5: People are underestimating this war ship. I think That's what
- 43:58Speaker 5: I'm saying.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Hate you Chris for even bringing that up, not just
- 44:04Speaker 1: from Straw bro.
- 44:05Speaker 4: This warship. I think, is you know, being underestimated in
- 44:08Speaker 4: this equation. She wanted to one last thing for this episode.
- 44:13Speaker 4: I didn't want to talk about.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Please I hope you.
- 44:18Speaker 5: Well, probably not, but uh, I have a Parker breaking out.
- 44:23Speaker 5: Zeke is you know, pretty much the end and he
- 44:26Speaker 5: rates him out of prison.
- 44:27Speaker 1: I was gonna say something else.
- 44:29Speaker 5: Okay, no, go ahead and say it, because I just
- 44:30Speaker 5: thought that was well done. I know we hate you know,
- 44:33Speaker 5: we're not the biggest fan of the time spent with Zeke. Yeah,
- 44:36Speaker 5: I get into my biggest problem with him, especially in
- 44:38Speaker 5: episode six.
- 44:39Speaker 4: Oh my god, but.
- 44:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the big one of the biggest reveals
- 44:44Speaker 2: really and really heartbreaking and really critical, like an analysis
- 44:48Speaker 2: in like emotional trauma.
- 44:51Speaker 1: It was Xavier finding out about Natalie Ai.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Yes, this is when he first he's like, you know,
- 44:57Speaker 2: the super brings him and then she pops up and
- 45:00Speaker 2: I was just.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Like no, no, Like in my head, I was like, no,
- 45:02Speaker 1: he's not.
- 45:03Speaker 2: Gonna take this good. And predictably, he did not take
- 45:06Speaker 2: that well. And it's interesting because I did. Like a
- 45:09Speaker 2: few people I talked to, there was split. Some of
- 45:11Speaker 2: them was just like, you know, shouldn't they like he'd
- 45:14Speaker 2: be like, not so harsh against her because you know,
- 45:17Speaker 2: it's like it's like a tribute to his sister and
- 45:19Speaker 2: all that stuff. And then the other side, which is
- 45:21Speaker 2: my side, was like I understood fully, was just like
- 45:24Speaker 2: it felt like a violation.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Yeah, and even though.
- 45:28Speaker 2: It wasn't on purpose, and even Rebe was trying to
- 45:30Speaker 2: plead her case that it was not done on purpose,
- 45:31Speaker 2: which is true. It just the manifestation just happened based
- 45:35Speaker 2: on something she wasn't even calculating, but still.
- 45:38Speaker 1: It was.
- 45:39Speaker 2: It was it was hard to watch from a like
- 45:43Speaker 2: emotional perspective because for him to see that, like he
- 45:46Speaker 2: hadn't remember he has said, like I think it was
- 45:47Speaker 2: episode one or whatever. He was like, he's sorry he
- 45:49Speaker 2: wasn't there that night, right, because he also feels like
- 45:51Speaker 2: he wasn't there protect his sister and all of this
- 45:54Speaker 2: stuff that's happened thus far, and then like for this
- 45:57Speaker 2: to be kept a secret from him and then he
- 45:59Speaker 2: sees this and that's probably the first time you've seen
- 46:01Speaker 2: the sisters that she passed.
- 46:02Speaker 1: That shit is rough.
- 46:06Speaker 4: Unimaginable.
- 46:07Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a lot with the show that I've been
- 46:12Speaker 5: It's like, I you know, I've lost, you know, friends,
- 46:15Speaker 5: my parents, et cetera. But you know, one of people
- 46:18Speaker 5: ourselves in my life is my sister, and the idea
- 46:21Speaker 5: of a hologram of her or something like that is
- 46:24Speaker 5: I stull don't know, man, I don't I don't know.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:29Speaker 6: I think it's combined also with the way that the
- 46:32Speaker 6: way that she pops up on them, that's like startling.
- 46:35Speaker 6: He might have been able to handle a conversation, but
- 46:38Speaker 6: all of a sudden, my sister's standing there. That's that's
- 46:41Speaker 6: a bit much that that might that might be too
- 46:43Speaker 6: much for me.
- 46:44Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, Xavier still looks very groomed.
- 46:48Speaker 7: What I was I was talking to somebody of a
- 46:52Speaker 7: black woman about re Rea and black geniuses and emotional intelligence.
- 47:00Speaker 7: Do you think it's like, well, she's so intelligent that
- 47:06Speaker 7: she has I was thinking about like blind spots that
- 47:09Speaker 7: our geniuses have or just people that are really gifted
- 47:13Speaker 7: at things. And she was saying like, well, there's no
- 47:16Speaker 7: emotional intelligence, you know, the Natalie situation, the AI. Doesn't
- 47:21Speaker 7: she think that maybe he might be feel a way
- 47:24Speaker 7: about that? You know, what do y'all think about I
- 47:28Speaker 7: just want to know what y'all thought about it.
- 47:29Speaker 2: Just in general, I will say I know she knew
- 47:32Speaker 2: he would feel way about it, which is why she
- 47:33Speaker 2: hit it for so long, because remember, Natalie just popped out.
- 47:36Speaker 2: She didn't tell Natalie, hey, show yourself to Xavier. Natalie
- 47:39Speaker 2: just popped out. I was like, oh, I want to
- 47:40Speaker 2: see my brother, right, So yeah, I think so. I
- 47:44Speaker 2: do think really understood the implication. So that's why she
- 47:48Speaker 2: hit it. At the same time, I do also agree,
- 47:50Speaker 2: and it's not just like just that genius intellect approach
- 47:53Speaker 2: and you just see that trope in media anyway about
- 47:56Speaker 2: like you're so fucking smart that you have no emotional
- 47:59Speaker 2: idea like right, because and they usually posit that with unfortunately,
- 48:04Speaker 2: like they also conflate it sometimes with things like what's
- 48:09Speaker 2: all like if you're on the spectrum, like they'll they'll
- 48:12Speaker 2: conflate that and be like, well, you know, because they're
- 48:15Speaker 2: on the spectrum, they don't understand the emotion too, right.
- 48:17Speaker 2: Some of them are just assholes, right, like Tony Stark, Right,
- 48:20Speaker 2: You're just an asshole and that's just how you be.
- 48:22Speaker 2: And and sometimes that is a thing, Like I think, I
- 48:25Speaker 2: think it's very difficult to to generalize that. I think
- 48:29Speaker 2: there's a lot of nuance there. But at the end
- 48:31Speaker 2: of the day, I do think that that tends to
- 48:34Speaker 2: be the case where they say, well, you're so smart,
- 48:36Speaker 2: that you're so driven on what you can do versus
- 48:39Speaker 2: how you feel.
- 48:41Speaker 1: We do see that.
- 48:42Speaker 2: I feel that, and really is a bit emotionally stunted.
- 48:45Speaker 2: Like she it's hard for her to even come to
- 48:47Speaker 2: terms with her own emotions. It wasn't until later on
- 48:50Speaker 2: this series where she essentially gave in to her emotions
- 48:53Speaker 2: and allowed herself to feel that stuff.
- 48:55Speaker 1: And when I say feel that stuff, I mean sit
- 48:57Speaker 1: with it, like she's been feeling a way. She is
- 49:00Speaker 1: in pain.
- 49:01Speaker 2: She is sitting in that, but she never addressed it.
- 49:05Speaker 2: She never gave her the time to grieve or any
- 49:08Speaker 2: of that stuff. So I think, like there's so much
- 49:10Speaker 2: turmoil in her on top of her intellect, on top
- 49:13Speaker 2: of everything going on that I think it's just hard.
- 49:16Speaker 6: Yeah, and she's also again a teenager, you know what.
- 49:21Speaker 6: So yeah, So for me, like like I don't really
- 49:25Speaker 6: see her as disconnected from emotions. I see her as driven.
- 49:31Speaker 6: I see her sometimes as like having a singular focus.
- 49:34Speaker 6: But she doesn't come off to me as somebody who
- 49:37Speaker 6: is has a lack of emotion or as somebody who
- 49:41Speaker 6: is on the spectrum and has trouble reading emotions. That
- 49:45Speaker 6: doesn't come off for me. I do think that we
- 49:48Speaker 6: have certain expectations of black women. I think that we
- 49:52Speaker 6: adult I mean, she's twenty seven in real life, So
- 49:54Speaker 6: I was gonna say, I think that we adultify black
- 49:57Speaker 6: girls as well, even though we are looking at someone
- 50:00Speaker 6: who is an adult, play a child, or play a teenager,
- 50:03Speaker 6: a you know, nineteen twenty year old. I think that
- 50:07Speaker 6: so like to me, like that reading of her feels
- 50:10Speaker 6: like an adultification and an added pressure. Let's say she
- 50:15Speaker 6: is an adult and added pressure on a black woman
- 50:18Speaker 6: to have to be a show up as one hundred
- 50:20Speaker 6: percent everybody's fucking therapist, you know what I'm saying. She,
- 50:24Speaker 6: to Tatiana's point, she hid her because she knew it
- 50:27Speaker 6: would be an issue. There was a lot happening in
- 50:28Speaker 6: that moment. Nobody asked Natalie to go and get him
- 50:31Speaker 6: and bring her there, even bring him there, you know,
- 50:34Speaker 6: when he meets Natalie and all that stuff or whatever,
- 50:36Speaker 6: is a lot happening, and so she deals with it
- 50:39Speaker 6: as best as she can in the moment we're watching
- 50:42Speaker 6: the show. So of course I'm thinking, are you going
- 50:44Speaker 6: to say anything else to him? Like say something else
- 50:46Speaker 6: to him or whatever. But it's a lot happening in
- 50:49Speaker 6: that moment, And I think that like reads of her
- 50:52Speaker 6: in this show. You know, I'm not as privy to
- 50:55Speaker 6: like the details of her personality in the comics, but
- 50:58Speaker 6: as in this show, I feel like she showed a
- 51:00Speaker 6: range of emotions she think. Yeah, And I think the
- 51:03Speaker 6: way that people read her or talk about her as
- 51:07Speaker 6: having less than emotions is a reflection of the way
- 51:11Speaker 6: that we treat black women and girls in real life.
- 51:13Speaker 6: Because we don't demonstrate or perform our emotions, our joy,
- 51:17Speaker 6: our rage, are hurt in ways that is either expected
- 51:22Speaker 6: or desired, or perform these feelings in a way that
- 51:27Speaker 6: is somehow in service to the people around us, you
- 51:30Speaker 6: know what I'm saying, or care for the people's feelings
- 51:32Speaker 6: around us, or put those other people's feelings first before
- 51:36Speaker 6: our own. Because of that, we are then reduced to, Oh,
- 51:39Speaker 6: they don't have feelings, they don't care, they can't for her.
- 51:43Speaker 6: Oh she's so smart, she can't read you know, she
- 51:46Speaker 6: can't read emotions and stuff like that. Yeah, it feels
- 51:50Speaker 6: like it feels like a manifestation of how we treat
- 51:53Speaker 6: black girls and black women in real life, because I
- 51:56Speaker 6: feel like every episode she's crying, she's laughing, she's wondering,
- 51:59Speaker 6: she's emoting is Yeah, it's it's right there, it's on
- 52:04Speaker 6: his shoulder, she's grieving, it's right there.
- 52:06Speaker 4: Yeah, because I was. I was telling that person.
- 52:08Speaker 7: I was like, well, you have to you have not
- 52:10Speaker 7: only seen three episodes, I've seen them all. And then
- 52:13Speaker 7: there is I think there is a realization. I guess
- 52:16Speaker 7: that one of my favorite scenes in the whole series,
- 52:19Speaker 7: I think it happens in episode five.
- 52:22Speaker 4: But wait, wait, wait, save that then the same Yeah,
- 52:24Speaker 4: I'm not going to say it.
- 52:25Speaker 5: I'm not going to say it, but to say that
- 52:27Speaker 5: just that there's an arc, I think that you have
- 52:29Speaker 5: to watch the whole thing to really get a read
- 52:32Speaker 5: on not only the decision that she makes, but just
- 52:35Speaker 5: like what the character actually does and what changes her m.
- 52:42Speaker 4: Yeah, and I agree with everyone.
- 52:44Speaker 5: I think that we talked about this last week is
- 52:47Speaker 5: that the whole Tony Stark comparison, of course, is trying
- 52:50Speaker 5: to come up. And even like for comic readers, read
- 52:53Speaker 5: Richards is another one of these super geniuses who often
- 52:57Speaker 5: doesn't have a very emotional output. But I think Reread
- 53:00Speaker 5: has a much wider range of emotions than someone I
- 53:03Speaker 5: read Richard's. And while Tony I think is very much
- 53:06Speaker 5: an emotional character. It's just usually but he's an asshole. Yeah,
- 53:12Speaker 5: emotions for the for the situation. He shows you know,
- 53:17Speaker 5: empathy and you know, comforts people, all these type of things.
- 53:21Speaker 5: Like she says in this episode, I don't want it
- 53:23Speaker 5: Xavier to see you because I know how he would react,
- 53:26Speaker 5: while someone like Reid would not even think of that.
- 53:28Speaker 5: He would just immediately show Xavier, you know, the hologram sister,
- 53:32Speaker 5: like right, like.
- 53:33Speaker 4: Look what I did?
- 53:34Speaker 1: Yeah, Like it's not on some Doctor Manhattan shit. It
- 53:36Speaker 1: was like, well, what do you mean?
- 53:37Speaker 4: You know, she's not Spock. She's not spocking.
- 53:42Speaker 3: You know.
- 53:43Speaker 7: I was just just somebody had talked with. I was
- 53:45Speaker 7: talking to someone was just like, oh, what did you
- 53:47Speaker 7: see what.
- 53:47Speaker 4: Y'all thought about it? Oh? No, definitely.
- 53:49Speaker 5: But I do feel like her issues are one that
- 53:52Speaker 5: she's a teenager and that she is a super genius
- 53:56Speaker 5: and is thinking along lines where she's very focused on
- 53:59Speaker 5: themes and yeah, has a very one track mind about
- 54:02Speaker 5: a lot of things, and so because of that, it
- 54:04Speaker 5: does get her into trouble, and it does lead the
- 54:07Speaker 5: situations where her emotions aren't really expressed or shown the
- 54:11Speaker 5: right way, or might lead the situations like this.
- 54:13Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely, I think that that wrapped up episode four.
- 54:18Speaker 2: The first thing that like hit me on episode five
- 54:21Speaker 2: was that when they was first of all, this was
- 54:23Speaker 2: the Battle Royale in White Castle.
- 54:26Speaker 6: I was just I love that.
- 54:27Speaker 4: Okay, people have been upset about that.
- 54:31Speaker 5: Why well, like for people who have seen everything like us,
- 54:34Speaker 5: because that was like one of the things where they're
- 54:36Speaker 5: like this they could have bought in I don't know,
- 54:38Speaker 5: the Chicago Fast Food or US that's in Chicago.
- 54:41Speaker 2: I mean it's also in New York. So yeah, that's
- 54:45Speaker 2: the thing. Are those people who were complaining from Chicago?
- 54:48Speaker 2: I think so they were then the fight.
- 54:50Speaker 1: And what's that the name of the hot spot?
- 54:52Speaker 4: Chicken Spot Chicken Harold Chicken, Harold Chicken.
- 54:55Speaker 5: Yeah, Harold, don't much Ben and Harolds.
- 55:00Speaker 4: It's so good.
- 55:02Speaker 1: That's not what the was wrong with. First of all,
- 55:04Speaker 1: white cous will probably pay that bread.
- 55:06Speaker 7: To get but let me, can I say something about this?
- 55:10Speaker 7: So I feel like, I don't know, white Castle kind
- 55:14Speaker 7: of screwed themselves because she throws up her white castle.
- 55:19Speaker 7: Was like, let's be real exactly, that's what I'm saying.
- 55:25Speaker 4: One or the other, it's gonna come out like.
- 55:28Speaker 1: No shade, shade the white castle.
- 55:29Speaker 2: I grew up with that white castle.
- 55:37Speaker 5: As Atonian dog. I never like white castle was saying
- 55:40Speaker 5: that rappers talked about. That was not a did you'll
- 55:44Speaker 5: have a white house?
- 55:50Speaker 4: What?
- 55:51Speaker 1: Maybe like you in Houston?
- 55:52Speaker 2: But down so they have something called crystals States, which
- 55:55Speaker 2: is almost equivalent.
- 55:57Speaker 4: So we have water burger.
- 55:59Speaker 2: Yes I'm not we're talking about very particular type of bird.
- 56:01Speaker 2: We're talking about that, well, not white castle.
- 56:06Speaker 6: No, we're talking about sliders.
- 56:07Speaker 4: Were talking about slad. I know water, but did y'all
- 56:12Speaker 4: have sliders?
- 56:13Speaker 6: Did you have a place to have sliders?
- 56:14Speaker 3: No?
- 56:15Speaker 4: Nothing.
- 56:16Speaker 5: Sliders was the thing that like, it wasn't until like
- 56:19Speaker 5: very recently in my life that I was like, okay,
- 56:21Speaker 5: you know, like yeah, you know yeah.
- 56:23Speaker 1: Black castles up north of New York.
- 56:24Speaker 2: I didn't even realize they did it like that in
- 56:26Speaker 2: Chicago's When I saw it, I was like, well that's familiar,
- 56:28Speaker 2: but yeah, this fight happening, you know again, I felt
- 56:31Speaker 2: like I was on a teching stage.
- 56:32Speaker 4: It was.
- 56:33Speaker 2: I loved it so random and like it was in
- 56:36Speaker 2: the neighborhood. It wasn't like some random set piece. It
- 56:40Speaker 2: wasn't on top of the tallest tower. It was on
- 56:44Speaker 2: the ground in a fucking restaurant that happened to be
- 56:47Speaker 2: on the strip where you be at.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Like that makes sense to me.
- 56:50Speaker 5: All white castles look alike to so like the one
- 56:53Speaker 5: that I've been in, you know, the same familiar familiarity.
- 56:57Speaker 2: Remember, I think I gotta say this, this show was
- 56:59Speaker 2: very black white. I'm not saying only white black people
- 57:02Speaker 2: go to White Castle because they love White Castle in Japan,
- 57:04Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you that.
- 57:05Speaker 1: But black people know White Castle.
- 57:08Speaker 6: Okay.
- 57:08Speaker 2: When you see that, especially from a certain region anyway,
- 57:10Speaker 2: and when you see.
- 57:11Speaker 1: That ship, is like I know that I know that place.
- 57:15Speaker 1: That's for real.
- 57:16Speaker 7: The first time I had White Castle was I was living.
- 57:18Speaker 7: I lived in Chicago. I used to work at Best
- 57:21Speaker 7: Buy and we used to have six am meetings on Saturdays,
- 57:25Speaker 7: and after those meetings we'd all go to White Castle.
- 57:28Speaker 7: So that definitely is a Chicago for your thing.
- 57:32Speaker 2: So it's you said, after six am, whats.
- 57:37Speaker 4: They was there?
- 57:38Speaker 6: In the morning?
- 57:38Speaker 4: We were up in the morning. We went to one
- 57:40Speaker 4: get them breakfast sandwiches right there.
- 57:44Speaker 2: And cheese burgers on your rings at six am.
- 57:48Speaker 7: I was seven thirty eight, but not it was just
- 57:53Speaker 7: funny that White Castle. It was just like it was
- 57:55Speaker 7: so it was it was random, but it wasn't because
- 57:59Speaker 7: it was just like, oh, White Castle, you know what
- 58:02Speaker 7: they're doing. They're ruining your restaurant and the lead character
- 58:06Speaker 7: is the lead character threw up your food.
- 58:10Speaker 6: Talking about it, but up some White Castle, right I
- 58:14Speaker 6: had weeks ago.
- 58:18Speaker 2: In fact, White Castle has become integral and pieces of
- 58:22Speaker 2: black culture because they helped the fund tew far So
- 58:25Speaker 2: really show. So yeah, you got to look at that
- 58:29Speaker 2: story of White Castle and how that came to be,
- 58:31Speaker 2: like literally, would you help?
- 58:33Speaker 1: And it was like.
- 58:34Speaker 6: That's dope, that's dope.
- 58:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 58:36Speaker 6: I just remember like it just just as a kid
- 58:39Speaker 6: going to the White Castle on Boston Road in the
- 58:42Speaker 6: Bronx and you could just get what felt like mad
- 58:45Speaker 6: food because everything is tiny. It just felt like, yo,
- 58:48Speaker 6: we're about to have a feast. I could get. I
- 58:50Speaker 6: could get more than French fries as a side. I
- 58:54Speaker 6: like that.
- 58:55Speaker 5: But my first peri for White cas I was like,
- 58:57Speaker 5: what you know, they brought out sliders.
- 58:59Speaker 4: I was like, okay, this is interesting.
- 59:02Speaker 5: Well what By the time I ate White Castle, I
- 59:05Speaker 5: was only eating fish, so I think I had like, yeah.
- 59:07Speaker 6: They got fish, they have a good fish sandwich, they
- 59:09Speaker 6: got a fish flair.
- 59:11Speaker 4: And I remember the f I wasn't like mad at it.
- 59:13Speaker 5: No, I was not like, you know, I've only been
- 59:16Speaker 5: to like, you know, twice in my life, I think,
- 59:18Speaker 5: but you know, I wasn't mad at it.
- 59:20Speaker 6: Now that we're talking about this White Castle fight. So
- 59:22Speaker 6: I do want to correct myself last week when we
- 59:25Speaker 6: were talking about the siblings, the Blood siblings, I actually misgendered.
- 59:30Speaker 6: I was trying to say they for the most part,
- 59:32Speaker 6: I was trying to say they, but I know I
- 59:33Speaker 6: flubbed a few times. But Jerry Blood is actually trans
- 59:38Speaker 6: masculine in both real life, and yeah, they're non binary
- 59:42Speaker 6: trans masculine person and I hear it in the and
- 59:46Speaker 6: maybe their pronouns were used before, but I heard, uh
- 59:50Speaker 6: Jerry referenced as him in the White Castle. Oh yeah,
- 59:56Speaker 6: so when yeah, but when rose when when when they
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: go into the into the White Castle, Jerry is like,
- 1:00:04Speaker 6: all right, everybody out, you know, we're closed or whatever.
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: And then when they don't leave is like he said
- 1:00:11Speaker 6: get out or he said they're closed. But a lot
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: of us use multiple pronouns or whatever.
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: That's right, Yeah, that's okay, because that's something that like
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: even with uh the one for magic board, like they
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: were introduced as they and then at one point I
- 1:00:24Speaker 5: heard someone say get off her or she needs to
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: do this.
- 1:00:28Speaker 6: Yeah, a lot of us use multiple pronouns. I'm she
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: they when somebody days me, I feel warm and fuzzy
- 1:00:34Speaker 6: and cozy inside or whatever. You know what I'm saying,
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: Like it's it's a it's a very important thing. So
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: it's not uncommon to use flex pronouns.
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: It's not they as many people as I can, just
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: because you know.
- 1:00:46Speaker 6: Yeah, I think I have to do right, Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 1:00:50Speaker 6: yeah for sure. So I tried to do that last week.
- 1:00:52Speaker 6: But I think there was a time or two where
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: where I missgendered them. So I want to mention that,
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: and I and then I in my research of this
- 1:01:00Speaker 6: in the comics, are they you want to talk about
- 1:01:03Speaker 6: them in in the comics a little bit?
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: Are they brothers? I guess they're aliens, you know, like
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: might not be you know, who knows.
- 1:01:12Speaker 6: I saw them. I saw them referenced repeatedly as brothers,
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: so I thought they're.
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: The brothers yadd siblings. Yeah, I mean, but they're aliens.
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: You know who knows?
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: They're red skinned aliens. They were created by Jim Starling,
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: and they're very much alien. They don't ever, as far
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: as I know, even interact with anyone on Earth. So
- 1:01:33Speaker 5: they pretty much just took the name and you know,
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: use it on other characters. Gotcha, And I've seen that,
- 1:01:38Speaker 5: I'm not I've seen two sides of the story, so
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: I don't know which one is true. Because in the
- 1:01:44Speaker 5: slug is from Madripor and in the comics there is
- 1:01:47Speaker 5: one slug that I know of, who is this giant,
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: fat white man who is a crime boss and fought
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: with Captain America and Captain America's uh side kid.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: Named Nomad and when I knew them, But then.
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: Someone said that there's another slug in the comments who
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: this one is based off of.
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: I'm not one hundred percent sure.
- 1:02:06Speaker 5: I don't know if they just took the white Man's
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: slug and flipped it like they did with the Blood Brothers,
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: or there's another slug that is based off of I'm not.
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: There was.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: There was an exchange in the White Castle again, which
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: I thought, again just the social commentary of the show,
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: whether that over or not. When the we just said
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: the siblings, they were saying, you know, when you know
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: the news comes and they talk about your death, and
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: and Reeve said, my death won't make the news. Yeah,
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: I was like, like for her to have to say that.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: And then again that's when it came back again from me.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: Jenny said, when you keep talking about how we get
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: to remember she's a child, She's a child. That's when
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: it came back. For a child to be saying that
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: I'm black child. That he's saying, I was like, ugh.
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: Like that also says something to how much people know
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: about her as ironheart, you know, like we were saying,
- 1:02:53Speaker 5: I don't think the whole Wakonda stuff.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: Is very well know, that's not common.
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: If it was known, like you know, like the Avengers
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: are known that fought off Thanos or fought off the
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: thing in New York, I think more people would know
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: about her dying in a white Castle, right, And.
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: She's a genius.
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: I think, yeah, yeah, that's true.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: What you say Chris about genius.
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: It was a genius. You know, no genius is getting
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: killed in the White Castle, but not make the news.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:03:16Speaker 5: I mean, she wasn't she a Scott What about the
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: like is it the episode one or two? She's a
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: black genius though still like black girl gets shot in
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: white Castle.
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: I think it would make it would make the local.
- 1:03:30Speaker 6: It would make the local black paper for sure. But yeah,
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: so she's She's also witnessed so many people die that
- 1:03:39Speaker 6: she knows how that goes.
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: She had made the news right.
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: It spoke to her relationship with death as a black
- 1:03:45Speaker 6: girl from Chicago living in Chicago, which.
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: Is Heregarian, Natalie didn't make the news right.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: And and and that I thought everything y'all just said.
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: I just thought about in that moment. And that also
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: made it hard to take us like she was just
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: telling her truth. And I was just like, fuck for
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: you to have to even deal with that thought, which
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: is what we deal with all the time as black
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: people in America.
- 1:04:06Speaker 6: So I did it.
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: And before we get I mean, we were talking about it,
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: but like one thing we didn't talk about was the
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: two fights. Well before the two fights is dimension of
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: Dormamo in the scene. And you know, Zelma was saying
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: that it's Dormamu who's controlling everything or behind the hood.
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: And what did y'all feel about that?
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: I thought it was funny because we know that's not
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: the case.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: I already knew who jumping. I'm like, that's not fucking Dormamu.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Like we trained dealt with Dormama already. He played his ass.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: Yeah, oh how many times he did that that scene
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: over and over again against him.
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: Remember in the movie where he came.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: He just kept bargaining with him, like literally maybe nine
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: hundred and ninety nine thousand times or some shit like that.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: He already played his ass and Dormama say, get the
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: fuck out of my house. So we knew Dormamu had.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: Nothing to do with this. I did.
- 1:04:51Speaker 6: Anyway, dor Mamu looked like a nigga in one of
- 1:04:54Speaker 6: those hotel pamphlets. That's how deep the hotel bullshit can
- 1:04:59Speaker 6: get where you where you're not looking at a comic book,
- 1:05:01Speaker 6: you're looking at her for real as black fucking literature. Okay,
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: and it's fucking black people passing these fucking pamphlets around
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: with aliens and shit in them.
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: Okay, anyway, coming soon, Oh oh.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: God, listen, we got pat that, but I just want
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: to get back and I'm gonna fast forward a bit
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: just so that we can get through. But really like
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: it was several things that other things and more like
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: these realization points, right cause brand and the heroes.
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: Are node we need to talk about.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: Yeah, some big so we talked. So you mentioned it earlier, Well, no,
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: maybe a few EPs ago. You was just like, you know,
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: the mom asked, why are you doing this irons man
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: suit and the iron suit?
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: Excuse me?
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: And Reav says, because I could, And then you know,
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: she makes sure dig deeper. And that's what we're seeing
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: that happened over and over this episode where it's just
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: like like Rea re.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: Again, she's going through so much.
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: Yes, she's a child, and it's so much to to
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: calculate and interrogate in her mind, in her in her
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: spirit about everything happening and stuff that she still has
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: not come to terms. But she has not come to
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: terms with the death of her stepfather, the death of
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: her best friend, the way that whole shit happened, which
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: was traumatic. She has not come to terms with none
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: of that shit and allowed herself to heal from or
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: even begin to heal from at least that's how I see.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: She's still suffering deeply from it.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: And she actually when her mother like kind of pushes
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: her to talk a little bit more, she goes into
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: why she what she says, the reason why she wanted
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: it when she says, you know, the paramedics came one
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: minute too late, and if I was able to you know,
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: they was there right, because remember that's her premise.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: When she talks to the MIT people, they said, well,
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: why are you doing this? They said, this is.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: Going to revolutionize, you know, the the medical industry, or
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: does no one to revolutionize emergency care and all that stuff.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: It's really because that was her way.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: She can't turn change time she needed she wanted to
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: save them, and this is her, I guess, retroactive way
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: of potentially being able to do something to say them
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: Like Reebe's whole thing is about I need to do
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: something I can, so I should, and in that moment
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: she couldn't.
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: So now she's been.
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: Reconciling with that thought for so long since that happened.
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: I'm not quite sure when that that that incident happened,
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: but she's been reconciling with that this whole time. On
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: top of being at war and this and this and that.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: So I just think, like you you see that happening
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: a lot this episode, like towards this is also episode
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: where her mom brings her back to the garage and
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: you know, Natalie Ai shows her that imagery, that video
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: of when Reebe was a child dancing with her father,
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: you know, having the good times, and you.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: See Reevee's like turn that shit off. At first, you
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: don't even.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: Want to deal with it again, just not being able
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: to come to terms that it's too hurtful, it's too much,
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: but then being able to sit with it, go ahead.
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: I think that's the best scene in this show.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it's beautiful, it's it's incredible.
- 1:07:47Speaker 7: And that's a great that's a great needle drop with
- 1:07:50Speaker 7: that that Leon Bridges and I think maybe you guys
- 1:07:52Speaker 7: might have touched on in a previous episode.
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: But like the needle drops on here are really great too.
- 1:07:57Speaker 7: And I I really I'm a sucker for dad stuff,
- 1:08:02Speaker 7: especially after my dad died. But like that was just
- 1:08:06Speaker 7: a pure moment with a black man and his kid.
- 1:08:10Speaker 7: That's powerful and her and like Tatiana, like you mentioned
- 1:08:14Speaker 7: her not wanting to deal with it and Natalie saying, hey, no,
- 1:08:18Speaker 7: you gotta you have to face this. You have to
- 1:08:21Speaker 7: see this because if you forget what did she say?
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: What's I forget the.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: Line, but you don't want to forget.
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: This, right, It's a powerful scene.
- 1:08:30Speaker 7: And it's like and I think and and to our
- 1:08:33Speaker 7: discussion about the emotional intelligence, I think that's where the
- 1:08:37Speaker 7: shift is. And then that's where you see the you
- 1:08:41Speaker 7: see community come in, you see all that, all that,
- 1:08:44Speaker 7: all that, those really great montages, but I think that's
- 1:08:47Speaker 7: where you see her shift. I think that's where you
- 1:08:49Speaker 7: see her actually come to a realization, uh, to want
- 1:08:55Speaker 7: to do better. Until it was episode six, but you know,
- 1:08:58Speaker 7: like I really thought that was a powerful scene.
- 1:09:02Speaker 5: I second, dad, I thought it was very powerful scene.
- 1:09:04Speaker 5: And again this show said when people have these criticisms
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: of the show where they're like it's not well wait,
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: it's not well directed, I'm gonna look at this montage
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: just really incredibly well done. Having all these characters come
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: back around, who were you know, some of them were introduced,
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: like the little boy in the first episode, and to
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: have him come back around and be part.
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: Of this community that uplift three read and just.
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: To show the blackness and that you know, of a
- 1:09:28Speaker 5: black community coming together, like you said, the black dad
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: with his daughter, I mean, the super emotional just everything
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: was I thought that was also great and also a
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: really great contrast to one of my big problems for
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: this episode and how.
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: The Hood deals with his community.
- 1:09:50Speaker 5: But I'll get to that in a second, lest anyone
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: else had anything else to say on that montage scene
- 1:09:54Speaker 5: and all that's all right, Well, this is where know
- 1:10:00Speaker 5: me andsaid definitely had you know, uh disagreemental discussions about
- 1:10:04Speaker 5: last week how to queer representation is on this show
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: and this episode where when I was like, well, we
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: could have saved some of that criticism, because this is
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: where I fully agree with you, Like my Manhood just
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: basically puts the whole queer contingent on the elevator and
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: sends them away and they do not return.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: I'm laughing because it was like I was rolling on
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: my second rewatch.
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: That's when I realized this ship. I'm like, wait a minute,
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: they're not an episode sick. This is the last we
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: see him is get on this elevator.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: Poof all of y'all tries on his fit and he
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: says that was the last fucking straw for him. He said,
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: fuck na, it was like a Martin episode where he.
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: Goes, now get the stopping, like.
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: Fucking kicked them all the fuck out and said Jackal, and.
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: They don't like, they don't show up again to help
- 1:10:55Speaker 5: out reread nothing.
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: You know, it's just like, get the fuck out of
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: this series.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: You literally do not see them again.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: Literally you even show like at the clown presses the button,
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: they show the slow mold.
- 1:11:11Speaker 6: That's enough of that.
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: And again I have to agree with you, Jay, because
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: like a lot of the marketing has featured them so
- 1:11:20Speaker 5: prominently where it's really ridiculous that they get sent away
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: like this and how they've been dealt with throughout this
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: whole series. So yeah, I was like, we could have
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: saved that because you know, it wholeheartedly deserved.
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: It in that moment.
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: That was well it deserved it when I said it.
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: But but yes, everybody else, everybody saw it.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: That was a that was a physical, physical manifestation of that.
- 1:11:42Speaker 6: Especially with the elevated clothes.
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: It was like you see on their faces head and it's.
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: Just like I was just like, like, like I said,
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: the second watch, I was laughing, like damn, they ceremoniously ushered.
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: Them out, text like, yo, hold up, they don't show
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: up again, right.
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: That was.
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: Clo on his.
- 1:12:05Speaker 5: It was also Clown investigating him, you know, because Clown
- 1:12:08Speaker 5: starts looking into the whole rampage thing and questions him.
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: Yeah. Now I love the character.
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: I love her character, Clown Clown Clown to the end
- 1:12:18Speaker 6: Rider died all right.
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: Yeah, well, you know, also trying to blow up in
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: his episode, she thought.
- 1:12:25Speaker 6: She thought that re Re killed. She was told that
- 1:12:27Speaker 6: re Re killed kill John. She's a writer, you know
- 1:12:30Speaker 6: what I'm saying, And.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: She's like.
- 1:12:37Speaker 6: That and she wrote, she wrote that whole we didn't
- 1:12:41Speaker 6: we didn't mention this. But quickly in episode five, we
- 1:12:43Speaker 6: see her have a code you know what I'm saying,
- 1:12:46Speaker 6: because yeah, because she's asked about that white man if
- 1:12:51Speaker 6: he killed yea Hood is asking and she co signs it.
- 1:12:55Speaker 6: And she knows she watched walk Away alive. Yeah, but
- 1:12:58Speaker 6: she's still she knows something weird is up. This is
- 1:13:01Speaker 6: when her intennis go up. This is when it's like, Okay,
- 1:13:03Speaker 6: this is not really what I thought it was. This
- 1:13:05Speaker 6: man is not who I thought he was. And so
- 1:13:08Speaker 6: you know, we get into the bottom of things or whatever.
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: I think it's an enjoys abusive relationships. Because she burned
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: up You're.
- 1:13:17Speaker 6: Gonna make me say something I didn't want to say.
- 1:13:19Speaker 6: I'm gonna have to say it now, I'm gonna have
- 1:13:21Speaker 6: to say it. Well, Well, first say what you mean
- 1:13:22Speaker 6: real quick.
- 1:13:23Speaker 4: I mean, she burned up her excess car. She's definitely
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: in that type of you.
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: Know, we don't know what happened with that relationship, but
- 1:13:30Speaker 6: that toxic. Sure, anything that ends in that kind of
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: violence is toxic. But we also don't know what she
- 1:13:35Speaker 6: was getting her lock back for. You know what I'm saying.
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: I know I'm not saying it. I'm just saying still, Yeah, sure.
- 1:13:42Speaker 5: Lots of us have been in toxic relationship we have, right,
- 1:13:45Speaker 5: and lots of don't burn up cars. But I also
- 1:13:47Speaker 5: think that just John banging her head into the thing,
- 1:13:50Speaker 5: that that's where I'm kind of like cold or not
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: like John, you know, physically abused you Like, that's where
- 1:13:58Speaker 5: I'm like, nah, you don't know like fuck.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: That you know, like, well you also know how abuse works, right.
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what I mean.
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: And that's what that's what I say about clown where
- 1:14:07Speaker 5: it's like and that's what I also said about the crew,
- 1:14:10Speaker 5: they were also a crew who was willing to go
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: along with that.
- 1:14:13Speaker 6: No, that's not what Tatiana was saying about to know what,
- 1:14:15Speaker 6: that's what I'm saying. But what Tatiana say, what you're
- 1:14:18Speaker 6: saying about abuse and how abuse works well, just in.
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: The fact that, like I know what you said, Like yes,
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: from a logic one plus one equals two perspective, someone
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: bangs your head into a floor, you would be like
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: fuck that.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: But that's not how that works in that type of relationship.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: If and again if we don't know all the details
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: about clown, but in that type of situation, and particularly
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: when you are the victim in that situation, you're not
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: going to see it in that light.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: You're not that that that that doesn't equate to you.
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: If anything, that I'm not even gonna say what she
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: may have even taken that ass But the point is
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: that that I didn't come to the same conclusion that
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: you did than not in that type of relationship because
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: because it could have been a higher deeper relationship.
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: Than you knew of. And she's going to give what
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: you would see as a past or.
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: Something like that.
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: But that's no, that's exactly what I am saying. But
- 1:15:02Speaker 5: I also do say that Clown had a problem with
- 1:15:04Speaker 5: it earlier. You know, she addressed John, she was like, Yo,
- 1:15:07Speaker 5: this fucked up.
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: You know. So that's why I'm like her, she's I
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: don't I just don't know exactly where she was. Like.
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: I get she defended Rere in that moment, but I
- 1:15:17Speaker 5: also don't understand why she didn't, you know, more so,
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: you know, have an issue with the whole crew as
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: it is.
- 1:15:24Speaker 6: I'm gonna say it. I think we're being hard on
- 1:15:26Speaker 6: her because she's a black girl. I think that that's
- 1:15:29Speaker 6: I think that that's the association of her as Yeah,
- 1:15:34Speaker 6: I think we're being she of all the characters, right
- 1:15:38Speaker 6: of all those villains right in or we'll call them villains.
- 1:15:42Speaker 6: Of all the villains in that crew, she is the
- 1:15:44Speaker 6: one that we get the most amount of nuance and
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: depth with, and I feel I just don't see how
- 1:15:51Speaker 6: somebody could how we can see her as I don't
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: know she was to me, she was the most humanized,
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: at least the way that she was written, she was
- 1:16:00Speaker 6: the most humanized. She was given the most depth, and
- 1:16:03Speaker 6: it feels like talking about her not that we should
- 1:16:07Speaker 6: not talk about black girls black villains as villains, right,
- 1:16:11Speaker 6: But I feel like we're being a little bit heavy handed,
- 1:16:13Speaker 6: and I feel like we're being heavy handed because she's
- 1:16:15Speaker 6: a black girl. Well this is I'm Chris, I'm talking
- 1:16:20Speaker 6: about We talked about this last episode together as well.
- 1:16:23Speaker 6: It's not just this episode.
- 1:16:25Speaker 7: From this though, I will say that they're the henchmen,
- 1:16:29Speaker 7: and I think there a lot of them are talented.
- 1:16:31Speaker 7: I think this Sonya Denise, who played Clown, was just
- 1:16:37Speaker 7: good because when I saw that moment, that moment when
- 1:16:39Speaker 7: when Parker was questioning them, and I was like because
- 1:16:44Speaker 7: because in that moment, I was like, oh shit, he
- 1:16:45Speaker 7: knows it's something. He knows that she's still alive. And
- 1:16:48Speaker 7: then when she said, yeah, we took care of her
- 1:16:51Speaker 7: and we did this and we did that, and I
- 1:16:53Speaker 7: was like, did he believe that?
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: I don't know, but.
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: No, go aheads you were talking.
- 1:17:00Speaker 7: I think these are I think sending them down the elevator,
- 1:17:02Speaker 7: I think it's just like a weird way of getting
- 1:17:07Speaker 7: rid of the quote unquote bumbling henchmen. Where I thought
- 1:17:11Speaker 7: that White Castle scene was pretty compelling, the way she
- 1:17:14Speaker 7: eluded them and everything, and I was happy that she.
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: Made, you know, light work of them into a to
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: a certain degree. But those are the quintessential benchmen people.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I personally like, I didn't. I wasn't tough for
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: none of them. I was just like that, they are
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: who they are, and they were chosen for their skill
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: set in crime.
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: At the end of the day, I felt that Clown,
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: yes she may have exhibited the most, was written anyway
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: to exhibit the most out of all of them in
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: terms of humanity. At the same time, she was also written,
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: in my view, to be a pyromaniac and an anarchist.
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: And whether you feel about anarchy is you know, everybody
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: else's business. But like me, I'm just like, Okay, Crime's
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: great plug. They off the bat. They said, I'm from Madrophorre.
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: Madrophort is basically a land of villains, So I just thought.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: Okay, crime.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: And then the Twins or the Tiplings, all they wanted
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: to do was fucking have a fight club.
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: They were found a club and they wanted to build
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: another fight club.
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: At least they're consistent. But even in a little bit
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: of backstory, we got they was doing this ship illegally.
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: Crime.
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: So all I saw was henchman.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not fair necessarily because again, this was all
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: concentrated within a queer group of people.
- 1:18:44Speaker 6: But that's what I got from Yeah, And I think
- 1:18:48Speaker 6: for me, the distinction comes when we start talking about
- 1:18:51Speaker 6: like somebody's character versus them being a criminal, versus them
- 1:18:54Speaker 6: being a because I feel like what we were shown
- 1:18:57Speaker 6: about her character is that her character is biger and
- 1:19:00Speaker 6: broader and more expansive and nuanced than just being a henchman.
- 1:19:04Speaker 6: And what some of the conversation has been in the
- 1:19:06Speaker 6: last review and a little bit of this one is
- 1:19:09Speaker 6: about her character. And that's when it starts to feel
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: like we're being a little heavy handed with her because
- 1:19:14Speaker 6: she's a black girl.
- 1:19:16Speaker 5: And I want to move on, but I just say, well,
- 1:19:18Speaker 5: I will agree to disagree here because I don't feel
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: like I'm being heavy handed on her because she's a
- 1:19:23Speaker 5: black girl. I just think that her I'm asking a question,
- 1:19:25Speaker 5: like her character is very interesting to me, Like John
- 1:19:28Speaker 5: beats on her, but then she's willing to blow up
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: reread over John, and that's you know, that's interesting. That's like, yeah,
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: and I said that last week. I don't like that comparison.
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: I don't like the term reprimanded.
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: But I don't like.
- 1:19:47Speaker 6: I don't like that shiit either I want, I don't
- 1:19:51Speaker 6: like it. I believe, I believe, Yes, I believe it's
- 1:19:58Speaker 6: a bad I believe it's a bad reductive, it's a
- 1:20:01Speaker 6: productive comparison.
- 1:20:02Speaker 7: I would you can you can still just because just
- 1:20:06Speaker 7: because a character is a bad person or a criminal.
- 1:20:10Speaker 7: It's the same way we we we liked Walter White,
- 1:20:12Speaker 7: we lost, we liked Tony Soprano, not not the.
- 1:20:16Speaker 4: Same who is.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: Jamie Lanister? And he would have been on your side.
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: I didn't. I'm sorry I didn't watch that show.
- 1:20:33Speaker 7: But the same but the same way critics lauded Omar
- 1:20:39Speaker 7: or any of these characters that were considered bad who
- 1:20:43Speaker 7: were breaking rules. Yes, okay, so you can have empathy
- 1:20:48Speaker 7: for them, you can have compassion for him. It's a
- 1:20:50Speaker 7: testament to the work that these actors are doing. It's
- 1:20:54Speaker 7: not you can you can feel everybody has team this person,
- 1:20:58Speaker 7: team that person. But it's these characters in the world
- 1:21:03Speaker 7: of this show really is the hero. These other people.
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: Are are not.
- 1:21:12Speaker 6: Thank you, thank you, Chris.
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:21:19Speaker 4: I said it's right.
- 1:21:24Speaker 7: I said, it's not all that you can like. I
- 1:21:28Speaker 7: like my fave the best to me one of the
- 1:21:30Speaker 7: best actors on the show. Many Montana cousin John a
- 1:21:34Speaker 7: bad guy, not a good guy episode.
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I guess you just again quickly close this
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: out this episode. Uh, that's this We also see them.
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: She gets to rebuild the iron Heart suit with the
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: dad's I don't know what kind of card is that
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: a Camaro whatever?
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: That car is hot rod.
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: Chris the man we're supposed to be like, Oh, I
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: can tell you how to fix a steak, but I
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: don't know about that. I can change a tire, Yeah,
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: I can do that. That's about it.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: Great, great, no mascillating please.
- 1:22:07Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: They imview the ironheartsuit with magic, which accidentally racist Natalie
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: a I. Parker's dad is a horrible, no good, very
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: bad man on top of any things.
- 1:22:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I want to mention that real quick.
- 1:22:22Speaker 6: Yeah it looks great.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, right, and dressed down, but is not quite
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: the best father, because that's what you said we said early.
- 1:22:31Speaker 6: Oh no, no, no, you're talking about re Resood right,
- 1:22:32Speaker 6: he wasn't talking about.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: Oh yeah, was incredible.
- 1:22:38Speaker 6: Nobody remembers what that man was wearing.
- 1:22:42Speaker 4: I remember that.
- 1:22:44Speaker 6: He's a horrible father. Let's talk about the dad for
- 1:22:46Speaker 6: a time.
- 1:22:47Speaker 4: That that episode six is that get.
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: Yeah, we meet him in five, we meet him in five,
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: we meet him. This is this is when that the
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: interaction happens with Parker.
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: Yeah, oh no, you're right, because I have I have
- 1:22:57Speaker 5: I have that my notes. When he has an orgasm
- 1:22:59Speaker 5: when he sits down in his dad's chair. Oh my god,
- 1:23:02Speaker 5: I mean he did, yo, he had a real visible
- 1:23:04Speaker 5: reaction to sitting in that man's chair.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: It was it was because he got everything he asked for,
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: he thought.
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: But on second second, watch it again, second came second,
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: watching the second time.
- 1:23:18Speaker 6: A third time, He's like, he does, Chris, Chris, I
- 1:23:23Speaker 6: want to go to.
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: You real quick.
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: Because you said this earlier about trauma being a very
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: center point of this series. We see the trauma front
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: and center, with his dad not giving a fuck about
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: Parker since he was twelve. Apparently after the mom died,
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: he said, I never really liked you anyway.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: Nigga, get the fuck out my house.
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: So dynamic was way and I'm just like, is this
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: the Disney thing where they just like all the parents
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: are trash Like it's.
- 1:23:47Speaker 6: So fucked up.
- 1:23:49Speaker 7: Yeah, it's It gives you a reason, his reason for
- 1:23:54Speaker 7: why he is the way he is, or at least
- 1:23:56Speaker 7: one of them. His dad didn't love him and he
- 1:24:00Speaker 7: never got that acceptance because he wanted to be stupid, dumb, rich, power.
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: He nasty, crazy.
- 1:24:10Speaker 7: I never heard that that was that was that was
- 1:24:13Speaker 7: a lot, but you know he wanted just it was
- 1:24:19Speaker 7: just a testament to that's that's the reason why he
- 1:24:23Speaker 7: is the way he is and making him a super villain,
- 1:24:28Speaker 7: his evil ass dad.
- 1:24:30Speaker 6: I want to know if they get tired of looking
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: alike in real life. Okay, they look like family. And
- 1:24:37Speaker 6: from the moment we saw that man's face because they
- 1:24:40Speaker 6: flashed to his face in an earlier episode, like, so
- 1:24:45Speaker 6: that's his dad. So I know immediately, yes, yes, you
- 1:24:51Speaker 6: have him. As I said last episode, you have the
- 1:24:53Speaker 6: hood walking around with his African face and his right's African,
- 1:25:01Speaker 6: but it's this it's an African face that he has.
- 1:25:04Speaker 6: Then you have his black dad show up. This is
- 1:25:06Speaker 6: the only black dad outside OF's dad who shows up. Well,
- 1:25:09Speaker 6: he's a black man. He's an older black man with freckles.
- 1:25:12Speaker 6: I'm like, oh, dad, I knew immediately that was his dad. Uh,
- 1:25:16Speaker 6: And then yeah, he shows up. They I need to
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: see them in a full separate series Dad and Father
- 1:25:22Speaker 6: because that was excellent casting it.
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: He is Puerto Rican and of African indigenous descent, so
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: well he has a whole African face.
- 1:25:32Speaker 4: So yes, I'm talking about the dad I know, I know, right, Yeah, Roos.
- 1:25:39Speaker 6: Has an African face.
- 1:25:40Speaker 4: Yeah, but they do. Look until you pointed it out,
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: they do.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: No, You're absolutely right.
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: I hate he went involved with.
- 1:25:52Speaker 6: You know it?
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: Brother? Yeah? Damn like hate heure? Yeah? Okay, well like
- 1:26:01Speaker 4: where y'all like y'all like Hamilton.
- 1:26:03Speaker 6: No, I just want to know. I want to see
- 1:26:05Speaker 6: your resume and all the places that you work, because
- 1:26:07Speaker 6: I'm sure it's places that are questionable on this what
- 1:26:10Speaker 6: I'm saying.
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: I mean, you know, I'm saying water.
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: From where I got to work, cake, you know, like
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: that off of you know, something like that. I can
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: say that profounding you know, and you know, hey, how
- 1:26:24Speaker 5: much K do you need?
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: Is all I can say.
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: The dad Dad said you was a liability. I didn't
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: want you. Doesn't that he said them words.
- 1:26:34Speaker 4: Like you? It was like it was I don't want you,
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: like it was ugly. It's almost real, like it was
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: something the most differentspects, Like I've heard a lot of
- 1:26:41Speaker 4: you know.
- 1:26:41Speaker 6: Bad dads, and I didn't want you.
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: Yeah, but it was like that, like he was just like,
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: get the funk out of here, Like you're just like,
- 1:26:47Speaker 4: why are you here? Dude? Didn't you get the message
- 1:26:50Speaker 4: after thirty years?
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:26:52Speaker 6: Yeah it was it was yeah, it was.
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: You know, and you know and you y'all said, it
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: ends with him getting what he wants. And according to Ben.
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: Him, you know, I mean, he definitely has a fiscal
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: reaction to citing he does.
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: I think that might just be his the influence of
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: what's going on.
- 1:27:10Speaker 5: I'm exaggerating for comedic effect, but you know, my man
- 1:27:12Speaker 5: has a you know, he sits in the chair and
- 1:27:14Speaker 5: he feels it okay.
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: And that leads us to episode six, the big fucking finale.
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: Who was like to start on this? Uh, we finally
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: get to see where the hood.
- 1:27:28Speaker 4: Let's come, let's stip to the you know, to meet it.
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: That to me, that is to me, we finally get
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: to see where Parker got the hood from, and it's
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: from Borat.
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: Another person who I'm not the biggest fan of, but
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: I thought he did a fantastic job. Is Mephisto.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: Oh yeah, let's talk about it, do y'all? Y'all do
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: you okay?
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: So you don't like the casting, ben No, I just
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: I'm not a big fan of him. Fine, but do
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: you like the casting?
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: I thought he did an incredible job. I love his
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: flip of absence and it made me I had this
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: in my notes. Is that like intentional to make the
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: Devil British, you know, to represent like the British Empire
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: and that type of imperial.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: That's a good, good, good question.
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: That's what happens in Star Wars, right, all of the
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: Empire they have British accents.
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's kind of like a stage standard type.
- 1:28:15Speaker 5: Well that that started as a stage standard, but then
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: when and Or come along, Gilboay flips that to make
- 1:28:21Speaker 5: it where it's the fact that the British are main
- 1:28:25Speaker 5: and mainly white, et cetera. Or there's only a there's
- 1:28:28Speaker 5: one lightstin British imperial we see, et cetera. So that
- 1:28:32Speaker 5: was definitely using and Or Now I'm not sure if it's.
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: He didn't want to one accent.
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: You talk about Sasha baron Con as the Mephisto himself, Yes,
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: he does more than one.
- 1:28:39Speaker 7: As if it's Baron Cone, it's all that shi it's intentional,
- 1:28:42Speaker 7: because yes, that is true. He's a master impressionist of
- 1:28:47Speaker 7: laying all that stuff.
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: So what did you think about the revealed genesia of
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: Mephisto and of being it being being played by Sasha
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: Baron Cone.
- 1:28:55Speaker 6: I didn't have any thoughts. I was like, all right,
- 1:28:58Speaker 6: you know, okay, none of y'all feel.
- 1:29:04Speaker 4: Like finally I wanted to.
- 1:29:07Speaker 7: I wanted because I wanted to ask you guys about it,
- 1:29:09Speaker 7: because the last time I was on here, we were
- 1:29:12Speaker 7: talking about the rollout of Ironheart and how it just
- 1:29:15Speaker 7: seemed kind of lackluster and unceremonious, and it seemed to
- 1:29:21Speaker 7: me like, do you all think that Disney trojan horses?
- 1:29:26Speaker 5: Yeah, because everybody, because everybody wants Mephisto.
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: Everybody, right, Yeah, I'm gonna say yes and no. Yes,
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: because this is a great origion way to do it. No,
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: because they fucked up, because you could have I'm not
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: saying you could have revealed Mephisto.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: You could not have done that, but they could have
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: done a better job of it. Really give you something
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: better than what we got.
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: And the trailers and not to say Disney ever tells
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: the truth in the trailers, but they give you some
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: more meat. I just feel like they give you something
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: more exciting. And we were always at least I know,
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: Ben and I would talk a lot about it, like
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: they're not really giving us much and they're not trying
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: to overpower the naysayers.
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: It just didn't feel like that.
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: And and I don't know if it's just me feeling
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: a way, it just didn't feel like the energy was
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: there to really be like, let's push this. This is
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: something y'all have to see. There's some crazy shit happening. No,
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: you couldn't say me physical. Yes, you have to read direct.
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: But I don't know that. I don't know the way
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: the trailers were cut or what like. I just felt
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: like it could have it could have gotten.
- 1:30:29Speaker 6: So here's my question then, Right, so I didn't necessarily
- 1:30:34Speaker 6: have a heart on for Mephisto coming or going, I'm
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: not so connected to that or whatever. Did you feel
- 1:30:41Speaker 6: like what we got with Sasha Baron Cohen did that salad?
- 1:30:44Speaker 6: Did that like satiate what you were looking for in
- 1:30:49Speaker 6: mephisto appearance? Because sometimes with Marvel, as a movie watcher,
- 1:30:54Speaker 6: sometimes I'll see a character and I could feel why
- 1:30:57Speaker 6: everybody was hype for this character. It could be somebody
- 1:31:00Speaker 6: that's not like my jam, but I feel the energy,
- 1:31:03Speaker 6: I feel the vibes, and I get it, and I
- 1:31:05Speaker 6: can you know it's context clues and ship this, you know,
- 1:31:08Speaker 6: I don't. That's why I said, I don't know. Did
- 1:31:10Speaker 6: y'all get what you were looking for from this?
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: I don't know if I was looking well, I think
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: that's the first thing. I wasn't looking for Memphisto. I
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: didn't think that he would be there. And then two
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: it was it became a joke because since Wanda Vision,
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: it was like, oh, Mefisto.
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: Coming every every corner in the internet.
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: Every fuck it's been five years where it's like, oh,
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: that's Mefistos doing. We about to see him at the
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: end of this episode, and it was never fucking him.
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: So then for him to finally pop up, it was like,
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: oh shit, finally my nigga's here. But it wasn't like
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: I was expecting to see something specific, so I went
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: in there with nothing, if that made sense, Like, I
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: just went in there with nothing, and it was like,
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: oh shit, this Mefisto.
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: Finally great.
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: Deal. Right, Well, as like I'm probably think.
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: It's supposed to it's supposed to be a big deal,
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: and I would think that, and when the internet sees it,
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: I wanted to see how they react to it.
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: Oh, it's gonna be all right. It's to answer your question, Janisa,
- 1:32:04Speaker 5: It's interesting, right because Mephisto has been in a lot
- 1:32:09Speaker 5: of comics since I was a kid. He especially really
- 1:32:11Speaker 5: interacts with Silver Surfer.
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:32:13Speaker 4: He had a really crazy one.
- 1:32:15Speaker 5: One of the first comics I ever read was Fantastic
- 1:32:18Speaker 5: four versus Mephisto and Franklin Richard's there like childhood Son
- 1:32:21Speaker 5: destroys him and it was really crazy, really dope. But
- 1:32:25Speaker 5: this whole obsession with Mephisto appearing in the MCU, to
- 1:32:28Speaker 5: me is some very white shit, and it goes back
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: to that whole you know, when white people love zombies
- 1:32:33Speaker 5: and white people love devils. So Mefisto represents the devil,
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: and so that's one of those things. Like I was
- 1:32:39Speaker 5: talking about this last week. I quote a Bounty Killer
- 1:32:41Speaker 5: song where I said, you know, before them see God,
- 1:32:43Speaker 5: them seek the devil, and it goes back to this
- 1:32:46Speaker 5: because I feel like this is why people have wanted
- 1:32:49Speaker 5: it so much is they just want that devilish thing
- 1:32:52Speaker 5: to be.
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: In the MCU.
- 1:32:53Speaker 5: Now as far as was I getting what I wanted
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: out of Mephisto's parents, because I didn't really need much
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: more than this, I love that one shot they have
- 1:33:02Speaker 5: where I think you see in the spoon you see
- 1:33:04Speaker 5: Sasha Baron in the full red makeup, so you see
- 1:33:07Speaker 5: him as the red face. Oh yeah, when he's talking
- 1:33:12Speaker 5: to him, it's a spoon or something on the table.
- 1:33:14Speaker 5: It's one shot. They only give you one shot of it.
- 1:33:17Speaker 5: A conversation with read Yeah, in the final conversation with
- 1:33:22Speaker 5: when he's sitting at the table, there's a shot of
- 1:33:25Speaker 5: a spoon off Springshotter when we you know, when the
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: episodes come out, but there's a shot of a spoon
- 1:33:31Speaker 5: that has my Fisto in the full red makeup. And
- 1:33:34Speaker 5: I think there's been like a behind the scenes shot
- 1:33:36Speaker 5: of him because people knew Sasha was in this for
- 1:33:40Speaker 5: as long as the show has been announced, you know,
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: people have known that he was in it, and the
- 1:33:44Speaker 5: rumor was that he was going to play Mefisto in this,
- 1:33:46Speaker 5: so a lot of people have been waiting for it
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: and I think that is one of the reasons why
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: Marvel did the release the way they did, is that
- 1:33:54Speaker 5: they did not want this to get out, like the
- 1:33:56Speaker 5: way they held us from even talking about it for
- 1:33:58Speaker 5: the very last minute. They were scared that some journalists
- 1:34:01Speaker 5: were doing immediately as soon as then Bargo broke go
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: out of episode six, that would have, you know, sucked,
- 1:34:08Speaker 5: you know, for people. So I get that because I
- 1:34:11Speaker 5: even saw on the internet, you know immediately people are
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: you know making like not assumption, you know, like leaning
- 1:34:17Speaker 5: into the knowing that my Fisto's in it.
- 1:34:20Speaker 4: So now that it's out, I thought it was great.
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: I think it's going to be huge for the MCU.
- 1:34:25Speaker 5: I think it's really huge for Ironheart to have this
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: interaction with myth Fhisto because I think it makes her
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: character much more prominent in MCU. And now we have
- 1:34:35Speaker 5: to distruss the choices that are made. But I just
- 1:34:39Speaker 5: as far as her being a part of m CEO,
- 1:34:41Speaker 5: I'm glad she made that choice because if she had it,
- 1:34:44Speaker 5: it would have gone back to your moonlight.
- 1:34:46Speaker 4: Level where we never know if we'll ever see you again.
- 1:34:48Speaker 7: I think you kind of you kind of answered my
- 1:34:50Speaker 7: questions about that that the decision.
- 1:34:53Speaker 4: Can we talk about the decisions she made? Yeah, no,
- 1:34:56Speaker 4: we can't. This is episode six. That's what I thought
- 1:34:58Speaker 4: we need to talk about.
- 1:34:59Speaker 7: I just thought that last scene was fantastic, just the
- 1:35:02Speaker 7: way they kept cutting back, and I'm like.
- 1:35:04Speaker 4: She is this the AI?
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: Is this?
- 1:35:06Speaker 6: Is this a dream?
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: Is it a dream? Like? So she makes the decision?
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: Where does that? Can you? Man?
- 1:35:15Speaker 5: I want I want you guys to like kind of
- 1:35:18Speaker 5: expound on what you think this will be and how
- 1:35:21Speaker 5: does how does that decision fit in the whole MCU,
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: like on a broader scale or is it just is
- 1:35:28Speaker 5: this just another albatross that is over prereachs back you know,
- 1:35:34Speaker 5: the decisions she made. I don't know, because, like I
- 1:35:37Speaker 5: recently brought the Doctor Strange multi Verse of Madness, and
- 1:35:41Speaker 5: the MCU has so many unfulfilled plotlines right now that
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: I don't know where this one will go because we're
- 1:35:49Speaker 5: approaching Secret Wars. I don't really know how re refits
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: into that. I don't know how Mephisto, you know, if
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: at all, fits into that. Like Mephisto was actually in
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: the comics a big part of the Infinity Gauntlet, but
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: not so much a big part of you know, Secret Wars,
- 1:36:03Speaker 5: any version of them. So I don't know how they
- 1:36:06Speaker 5: fit this in and how it expands. I am just
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: you know, excited to see that. You know, we we
- 1:36:11Speaker 5: will have this interaction at some point if you yeah.
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: That's that's a good point, Ben, because like you, I
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: was just like, this has huge implications for the rest
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: of the MCU. And why I when in my first
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: review I said, this show, this, this is probably the
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: most important MCU show since Wanda Vision, if not maybe
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: even above that.
- 1:36:29Speaker 4: It has to be there.
- 1:36:31Speaker 2: It because of all the different doors that have been
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: opened now and again like that, I mean not to
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: say that we haven't seen the magic before, but this
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: is different the magic with the tech and just the
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: entry point of this and then introducing such an integral
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: piece of at least comic book history, right, So on
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: my like you like that's where I typically sit, Like, yo,
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: this ship is going to be crazy with the implications.
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: How to answer your question, Chris, what does that mean
- 1:36:56Speaker 2: for the rest of the MCU. Is we're in the multiverse.
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: It can mean anything, right, And then on the other hand,
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: I'm like, it could mean nothing because I have to
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: repeat it wasn't until this last Captain America movie where
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: they addressed the celestial in the fucking ocean. It's been
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: fifty it's been what the ladies say on Titanic, it's
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: been eighty seven years.
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: That's also remember the writer strike in COVID writers strike
- 1:37:18Speaker 4: or not.
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: It's just like the niggas didn't exist.
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: Like, it's just so many things, like we saw a
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: fucking who's the guy we saw at the end of
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: the last four movie?
- 1:37:25Speaker 4: Who is.
- 1:37:27Speaker 6: You say?
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: And that's like and the universe type of being and
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: it's just like they tend to introduce these like not
- 1:37:35Speaker 2: even Earth ending universe and timeline, you know, shifting characters,
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: and then we're never gonna talk about them again. So
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: I don't think it's gonna happen with Sasha because Sasha
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: does have a lot of star power anyway on his own,
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: and I think that he would throw a fit, and
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: who knows, the deal's probably already done that you know,
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: he's gonna be around for whatever how many movies and shows.
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: But like, I don't know, I don't know.
- 1:38:04Speaker 6: This is this is for me.
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: This is the first time Marvel has come.
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: Back like strong, and to me, this hit, this hit
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: harder than thunderbolts for me.
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you're not trying to be nothing, You're telling
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: the truth. Yes.
- 1:38:20Speaker 5: Now, I do want to ask this question though, because
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: Chris said his opinion, I think, but how do y'all
- 1:38:25Speaker 5: feel about a black girl making a deal with the devil?
- 1:38:28Speaker 6: All right?
- 1:38:28Speaker 4: So yeah, I'm so glad that.
- 1:38:30Speaker 6: I'm so glad you said my name and said, hey, Genisia,
- 1:38:33Speaker 6: what do you think about this? You go first? Please you?
- 1:38:41Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:38:42Speaker 6: So, okay, the identity politic of that, I don't think
- 1:38:48Speaker 6: is inherently a problem. Do I think that this black
- 1:38:53Speaker 6: girl who we watched and her mom is with the
- 1:38:56Speaker 6: Woo woo who we watched, get a piece of that
- 1:38:58Speaker 6: fabric of that cloak and bring it and both of
- 1:39:02Speaker 6: Zelma and her mom. Zelma was like, oh, this is
- 1:39:04Speaker 6: this is wicked?
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: What is this?
- 1:39:05Speaker 6: And then her mom, with the wisdom, was like, get
- 1:39:08Speaker 6: the fuck out of my shot with this. I love you,
- 1:39:11Speaker 6: I want to protect you. Get away from the here
- 1:39:13Speaker 6: because it's not safe, and destroy this. Do I think
- 1:39:16Speaker 6: that that black girl would make a deal with the devil?
- 1:39:19Speaker 6: Absolutely not, Absolutely not. I don't think that that black
- 1:39:23Speaker 6: girl would make a deal with the devil so I
- 1:39:24Speaker 6: don't have a problem with what I would have loved
- 1:39:27Speaker 6: and what I was hoping for. I really loved to
- 1:39:31Speaker 6: Chris's point, I really did like the that final scene,
- 1:39:34Speaker 6: like the back and forth, because we're like, oh, this
- 1:39:36Speaker 6: is a dream sequence. She's obviously going to tell him no,
- 1:39:39Speaker 6: or you know, she fixed Natalie the AI or whatever.
- 1:39:43Speaker 6: So I really liked how they did that. What I
- 1:39:45Speaker 6: wish that they were able to incorporate either in that
- 1:39:49Speaker 6: scene or you know, if they had taken some of
- 1:39:51Speaker 6: the real estate that they spent on Ezekiel. I really
- 1:39:53Speaker 6: would have liked to feel more of why she would
- 1:39:57Speaker 6: make a deal with the literal fucking devil who had
- 1:40:01Speaker 6: this cloke that the two some of the you know,
- 1:40:04Speaker 6: two of the closest black women in her life said,
- 1:40:06Speaker 6: this is wild evil getting the fuck out of here.
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: I could see, we understand why she would want Natalie
- 1:40:14Speaker 6: to come back, and we understand that sometimes when you're
- 1:40:17Speaker 6: dealing with grief and love and loss, all bets are
- 1:40:20Speaker 6: off and you do whatever you have to do. But
- 1:40:22Speaker 6: I don't think that this black girl would go that
- 1:40:25Speaker 6: far where we already know like she's been down this road,
- 1:40:30Speaker 6: she saw what was going on with the hood. She
- 1:40:32Speaker 6: took the fabric and had it fucking analyzed. She knows
- 1:40:35Speaker 6: it comes from evil. I don't think this black girl
- 1:40:38Speaker 6: would make that deal, and I feel like there could
- 1:40:42Speaker 6: have been and I'm saying this as a totally ignorant
- 1:40:45Speaker 6: person who wasn't in the writer's room, but just in
- 1:40:47Speaker 6: terms of a viewer watching the time and watching how
- 1:40:51Speaker 6: things were done for me, I feel like there could
- 1:40:53Speaker 6: have been a little bit more about why she might
- 1:41:00Speaker 6: like the pros and cons and why she might lean
- 1:41:03Speaker 6: further towards making a deal with the devil. I feel
- 1:41:05Speaker 6: like there's a there's something they could have given us
- 1:41:08Speaker 6: that would have made it make more sense than it
- 1:41:10Speaker 6: does in the show that they gave us, Because in
- 1:41:12Speaker 6: the show they gave us, I don't think that black
- 1:41:15Speaker 6: girl makes this decision.
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: I see everything Genesie says. I agree with her.
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: I also see some duality in it because they also
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: very strongly gave us the imagery of someone who is
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: can be one track minded and wants what she wants.
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: They keep pushing that aspect of.
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: Her and whatever you can attribute that to her youth,
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: you know, personality, whatever that keeps coming up, and like
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: part of that, to me, part of that back and
- 1:41:45Speaker 2: forth about kind of giving you the sense that maybe
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: this is a dream, Maybe this is that that's Reb's
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: dream to have her best friend back, that's Reb's dream
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: to have been there, to do something to all of that, right,
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: and it kind of kind of does a full ser moment.
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: So that's why I said the duality comes where I'm
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: just like, damn, when presented with what you absolutely like,
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: you know better, you know the fuck better is essentially
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: what we're saying, and that knowing what you know will
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: knowing what people just told you an hour ago or
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: whatever it was a day ago.
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: But it's like, that's the mistake that gets made.
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: I feel like there's always gonna be in the in
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: our lives as humans, It's always gonna be that one
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: time where it was like, Nigga, where did that I
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: Where did that decision come from? What drove you to
- 1:42:38Speaker 2: that decision? And I agree that I wish they would
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: have gave us more to maybe make it more real
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: that she would have made that, because I still question that, Damn,
- 1:42:48Speaker 2: how could really that rev make that decision At the
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: same time, and again that could have maybe been explained
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: with more more writing.
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: At the same time, I get it even.
- 1:42:58Speaker 6: If even if uh, you know, Remick, even if this
- 1:43:04Speaker 6: episode's Remiic had given us was more persuasive, you know
- 1:43:08Speaker 6: what I'm saying, Even if Mefisto was more persuasive, because
- 1:43:12Speaker 6: he didn't feel like he was giving me big persuasions vibes.
- 1:43:15Speaker 6: I think I would about him.
- 1:43:16Speaker 5: Though, because I like how he was more like, I
- 1:43:19Speaker 5: can do this, but it's up to you, you know, yeah,
- 1:43:26Speaker 5: because he told the Hood the same thing. Though I'm
- 1:43:27Speaker 5: not gonna make you the king of the world, I'm
- 1:43:29Speaker 5: gonna give you the tools, correct, And so it's like
- 1:43:31Speaker 5: that I like that about him where he didn't have
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: to persuade you because he already knows. And it's like
- 1:43:36Speaker 5: that's the thing, he already knows what she wants. And
- 1:43:38Speaker 5: so it's like the ability to give someone that. And
- 1:43:40Speaker 5: then and then I love that line. Reeve had just
- 1:43:42Speaker 5: something that to go into the whole MCU part of it,
- 1:43:44Speaker 5: where she's like, the past is the past, and this
- 1:43:47Speaker 5: breaks all the rules of what was said in Infinity
- 1:43:50Speaker 5: Warren D game, but they are basically like, you know,
- 1:43:51Speaker 5: that type of ship can't happen dead or dead you
- 1:43:54Speaker 5: know this and Mefisto, I mean he even says like,
- 1:43:57Speaker 5: I'm big in the door man moved like that's you
- 1:43:58Speaker 5: know that dude, can't.
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: Let my you know.
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: You know another part of this that for me actually
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: goes further along with Genesis said about maybe not this capture.
- 1:44:07Speaker 2: This could have been their their version, their TV version
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: of they want an Infinity War moment, or they want
- 1:44:13Speaker 2: a moment where it's like the bad stuff actually does happen, right, yes,
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: like people got snapped and no one fucking I think
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: this is the same, Like they wanted to have that
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: moment again because you know, they haven't had that moment
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: in a while or anything that's even built up to that.
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: So this trojan horse of a show then putting this
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: this character in it and then saying, let's have that
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: moment where it's just like, Nigga, they actually snapped nigga,
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: you know, the person actually got taken away, or the
- 1:44:40Speaker 2: person actually made this wild ass decision that you would
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: never think they would make or should have made, or
- 1:44:45Speaker 2: whatever the.
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: Case may be.
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: But the complications of that and the consequences of that
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: is what reverberates throughout the rest of the whole of
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: the MCU, and I think this could have been that.
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: And again, I don't know whether you want to agree
- 1:44:57Speaker 2: that them doing it in this way. I think they
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: also maybe wanted this moment.
- 1:45:00Speaker 5: Yeah, Now, whether or not it's earned is yeah, you
- 1:45:03Speaker 5: know that that can be argued. I definitely can argue that.
- 1:45:06Speaker 5: And I you know, I'm not a black girl. But
- 1:45:08Speaker 5: as someone my first reaction was like, Wow, that's not
- 1:45:11Speaker 5: going to go over well. And my second reaction was,
- 1:45:14Speaker 5: I don't know she would have made that choice because
- 1:45:16Speaker 5: as someone who's raised, like you said, with this black
- 1:45:18Speaker 5: woman mother, yeah is you know, very much mystical, spiritual,
- 1:45:22Speaker 5: you know, and has a history. You know, Chicago, I
- 1:45:25Speaker 5: know it is a very black city, so you know,
- 1:45:27Speaker 5: you probably grew up on a black church, et cetera,
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: all that type of thing. And someone who myself grew
- 1:45:31Speaker 5: up and you know, I was like raised in a
- 1:45:35Speaker 5: Southern Baptist black church, the idea of making a deal
- 1:45:38Speaker 5: with the devil is insane to me.
- 1:45:40Speaker 4: But then if someone.
- 1:45:42Speaker 5: Said I could bring your mom back, I don't know,
- 1:45:45Speaker 5: you know that that becomes uh, well, you don't know,
- 1:45:50Speaker 5: you know.
- 1:45:50Speaker 2: Like we want to give the energy to that, like
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: you don't and something like that, and to me, it's
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: all damn near impossible situation. You don't know how thers
- 1:46:00Speaker 2: is gonna go. Like all that experience and life ship
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: gets can throw out the window immediately, and then you
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: make the most wildest decision because.
- 1:46:11Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:46:12Speaker 5: But at the same time, what you going to say, Chris, Yeah,
- 1:46:15Speaker 5: I want to say, she you all touched on everything,
- 1:46:19Speaker 5: but she's also in pain.
- 1:46:21Speaker 4: How could you make that decision? She's in pain, she
- 1:46:23Speaker 4: misses her.
- 1:46:24Speaker 7: Friend, and the more compelling choice is to make that
- 1:46:28Speaker 7: deal with the devil that we we we would not
- 1:46:32Speaker 7: agree with it, obviously, but that's the that's the interesting decision.
- 1:46:37Speaker 4: That's what makes That's what makes it.
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: What's what's also interesting about it is just like how
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: the Devil normally works, you don't know what form is
- 1:46:45Speaker 2: coming in. So remember when when even though it was
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: juxtaposed between these two different you know scenes, you know,
- 1:46:52Speaker 2: the scene when she's fixing on her suit and all that,
- 1:46:55Speaker 2: that's later, that's after she had already made the decision
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: and she's fixing her suit, going about her time. She's
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: thinking she's gonna be able the deal work. That she
- 1:47:02Speaker 2: got back Natalie Ai not Natalie herself. So and she
- 1:47:07Speaker 2: was even a shot, like, oh, that's what you meant
- 1:47:10Speaker 2: when you said you can give me what I want.
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: So I think her not even she doesn't also realize
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: the extent. And I think that's what I'm saying, where
- 1:47:19Speaker 2: it's like you just make these wild decisions some time,
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: not really truly realizing the extent of what you did
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: or what the what the impact of that could be.
- 1:47:26Speaker 2: Like I it was clear she didn't realize that he meant, no,
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: I'm bringing the person back.
- 1:47:31Speaker 5: I don't know, because she was that even possible. She was,
- 1:47:34Speaker 5: she was shocked, bro you she was definitely shot, but
- 1:47:37Speaker 5: she I think she does know. I think it's more
- 1:47:40Speaker 5: like a time had passed one and so I think
- 1:47:43Speaker 5: she just stopped believing that he had given, you know,
- 1:47:45Speaker 5: what he said he was going to do, because he
- 1:47:47Speaker 5: says death is hard, but I can do that, you know,
- 1:47:50Speaker 5: So she knows what he's talking about. But I think
- 1:47:53Speaker 5: once because time has passed, her hair changes, you know,
- 1:47:56Speaker 5: her bruise is gone. So it's like I think that
- 1:47:59Speaker 5: is where it's like she just did not believe him anymore.
- 1:48:02Speaker 5: And then she continued to work on this a, I
- 1:48:04Speaker 5: continue to work on the suit and then it's like
- 1:48:06Speaker 5: it shows up again. So yeah, I don't know that
- 1:48:09Speaker 5: that is.
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: You think that she really didn't know what he meant
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: like this.
- 1:48:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know. That'sble.
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: I do not even know what he meant that he
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: knew that she really believed that that was about to
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: fucking happen.
- 1:48:17Speaker 5: No, I don't think she believed it was going to happen.
- 1:48:19Speaker 5: That's why I think she did it too. I think
- 1:48:21Speaker 5: it's one of those monkey Paul you know, situations where
- 1:48:23Speaker 5: it's like, you know, I fuck it, you know, whatever
- 1:48:26Speaker 5: this is, I'm just going to take the deal, but
- 1:48:28Speaker 5: not really really the devil. None of this is real,
- 1:48:31Speaker 5: you know whatever you know, and then when it turns up,
- 1:48:34Speaker 5: it's like, oh ship. One thing I did want to
- 1:48:37Speaker 5: say about the whole pizza shop they meet in. It's
- 1:48:39Speaker 5: called desperritos.
- 1:48:42Speaker 4: Not a word. No, it's not at all.
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: I'm saying desperad I don't know. That's not what it says.
- 1:48:49Speaker 4: You know, Google trying to give me the spot, y'all.
- 1:48:51Speaker 4: I'm like, no, it's brito and it's not a word.
- 1:48:54Speaker 5: But I think they're just trying to play off desperate
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: and you know, making it like I guess, uh semized
- 1:49:01Speaker 5: Italian Spanish you know people, Yeah, that's but that was
- 1:49:06Speaker 5: also kind of bad to me because it's like, you know,
- 1:49:09Speaker 5: that's like my Spanish. I'm like, yeah, that's like, you know,
- 1:49:12Speaker 5: I'm a desperate that's brito you know that Spanish, right,
- 1:49:15Speaker 5: you know That's how I felt to me.
- 1:49:16Speaker 4: That was really like, but I don't know, I don't
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: know why you.
- 1:49:20Speaker 6: Look it up.
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: Huh, it didn't come in when you look at it.
- 1:49:23Speaker 5: There is no such word. And that's what it came
- 1:49:24Speaker 5: up is there's no such word in death reto. I
- 1:49:26Speaker 5: tried in Spanish and Italian. It's no such word.
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: It wasn't that spirital No.
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: I got paused and wrote it out. It's not a word.
- 1:49:37Speaker 4: One other things because this also, like Enia said, uh oh.
- 1:49:41Speaker 6: Wait sorry, or is it the spirit?
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying, the spirit?
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: I was what I was saying.
- 1:49:49Speaker 6: But why is the Athian the spiritual Italian? But obviously
- 1:49:55Speaker 6: what's that terrible to make an Italian man had?
- 1:49:58Speaker 4: And you added oh to everything.
- 1:50:00Speaker 6: But maybe instead of desperate, maybe it's a play on spirit.
- 1:50:03Speaker 6: Maybe it's a spirit like lost your soul type.
- 1:50:07Speaker 4: Yeah, it could be that version of.
- 1:50:13Speaker 6: You got.
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: Like what happened?
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: And that's another thing when you happen to be when
- 1:50:19Speaker 2: you do make a deal with him, what happens? Don't
- 1:50:20Speaker 2: he own you with that ship?
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: And if any come and that's another is any coming out?
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: Is there any way out of that?
- 1:50:27Speaker 6: I would have liked her to ask more questions, yes,
- 1:50:30Speaker 6: like one like one.
- 1:50:33Speaker 5: We don't don't if you don't see that whole scene
- 1:50:35Speaker 5: between him, that's why, you know, because she might have
- 1:50:37Speaker 5: asked all the questions of the world and still came
- 1:50:39Speaker 5: to that same decision, you know. And I think it
- 1:50:42Speaker 5: was I think it's that monkey's fault thing where it's like,
- 1:50:43Speaker 5: you know, you don't really believe it, you know, so
- 1:50:46Speaker 5: you wish upon it and then you know that ship happens,
- 1:50:49Speaker 5: and you know, then you regret. But one other thing
- 1:50:52Speaker 5: that I do, like, I really I hated Ezekiel in.
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: This episode like that he just says, I still got
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: beef with you.
- 1:51:00Speaker 5: Yes, oh my god, terrible writing like this is one
- 1:51:05Speaker 5: I can really say. No, like and even as someone
- 1:51:09Speaker 5: who's been incarcerated all that, you can be mad about that.
- 1:51:11Speaker 4: But no, why why where did this beef even come
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: from at this point?
- 1:51:17Speaker 6: It's irrational.
- 1:51:18Speaker 4: Irrational.
- 1:51:19Speaker 5: But one other thing I didn't want to point out
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: because you were talking about him fighting and the whole
- 1:51:23Speaker 5: him being controlled.
- 1:51:24Speaker 4: I thought it was hilarious when a dude when the
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: hood was sicking them on people. Yeah, and he's like
- 1:51:32Speaker 4: jumping at them all crazy.
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: In the background, right, he was like because when he
- 1:51:39Speaker 2: thought real.
- 1:51:40Speaker 4: He was not moving like that.
- 1:51:41Speaker 5: And then when he's fighting these people because I guess
- 1:51:43Speaker 5: it's him trying to resist them or whatever, he's like
- 1:51:45Speaker 5: just doing the most weird you know, like.
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: He wasn't doing that before.
- 1:51:52Speaker 4: Yeah, it was terrible, but hilarious too.
- 1:51:54Speaker 5: So that was my moment where if you were talking
- 1:51:56Speaker 5: about Jay, like where you get some more humor out
- 1:51:59Speaker 5: of the fact this dude controlling him.
- 1:52:01Speaker 4: That was comedy.
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: And you guys saw the after credit scene, right, Ye?
- 1:52:06Speaker 2: So with Parker now seeking help from Zelma at the
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: Magic Shop and what's gonna happen now that they're gonna
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: be a team now?
- 1:52:14Speaker 5: Like what Zelma is definitely that another one that made
- 1:52:17Speaker 5: bad decisions. So yes, I could see that, you know,
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: like she's that's.
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: A teenager, another teenager that's like, we're gonna check this
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: out yet.
- 1:52:25Speaker 6: But it also it wasn't clear to me what his
- 1:52:27Speaker 6: angle was.
- 1:52:29Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying.
- 1:52:29Speaker 6: It wasn't understanding, right, crazy don't know, We don't know.
- 1:52:40Speaker 4: Whoever writes the next one can decide whatever they want,
- 1:52:42Speaker 4: you know.
- 1:52:43Speaker 6: Yeah, Chris was trying to say something.
- 1:52:46Speaker 7: Can we also talk about I like that that fight
- 1:52:49Speaker 7: scene between Parker and oh yeah, very fire when he
- 1:52:54Speaker 7: had like that as he thought he thought he had
- 1:52:57Speaker 7: her dad to rights and she used in magic that
- 1:52:59Speaker 7: black girl man, and.
- 1:53:03Speaker 4: I thought it was great. I love that.
- 1:53:05Speaker 5: I love I love the use of the holograph. You
- 1:53:07Speaker 5: know they've been doing it, yeah, throughout the whole episode,
- 1:53:10Speaker 5: I mean throughout the series, and then to flip it
- 1:53:12Speaker 5: on that, I.
- 1:53:13Speaker 4: Thought that was very dope. CGI is really great in
- 1:53:15Speaker 4: this Yes, and that's.
- 1:53:17Speaker 5: Another complaint that people have had, like and it's so
- 1:53:19Speaker 5: plain yeah people, I mean, because in general it's just
- 1:53:24Speaker 5: yourrational hate because people say the action isn't well done,
- 1:53:27Speaker 5: where I'm like, no, it's actually one.
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: Of the best better actions from all the MCU.
- 1:53:31Speaker 5: Shows in the story, and the CGI is some of
- 1:53:34Speaker 5: the better from any of the MCU shows. So it's
- 1:53:37Speaker 5: irrational hate that people have been throwing this way towards
- 1:53:39Speaker 5: the show throughout it.
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 1:53:42Speaker 5: Also mentioned that Shakespeare made a deal with the devil,
- 1:53:44Speaker 5: and I love that because I'm a not a Shakespeare hater,
- 1:53:48Speaker 5: but I'm just a person who thinks that, you know,
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: giving any one credit to one person is really wild
- 1:53:53Speaker 5: like that. And also the Ringo star of I mean,
- 1:53:56Speaker 5: is it Ringo Ringo? The Beatles made a deal with
- 1:53:58Speaker 5: the Double.
- 1:53:59Speaker 6: In this universe, in this universe, okay, I think, I
- 1:54:04Speaker 6: think in.
- 1:54:04Speaker 4: Real life definitely I'm a Beatles. Yeah, no, no doubt
- 1:54:07Speaker 4: about that.
- 1:54:09Speaker 5: They made several deals with the Double for that matter,
- 1:54:11Speaker 5: and all of the forms one hundred and also another
- 1:54:13Speaker 5: great shout out.
- 1:54:16Speaker 2: So, guys, so now that we've gone through all these
- 1:54:19Speaker 2: episodes and now we know the whole series, what would
- 1:54:21Speaker 2: you rate the serious scale? A? B, C or D
- 1:54:25Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, he could do.
- 1:54:28Speaker 4: My plus plus this, you could do plus B plus
- 1:54:31Speaker 4: A minus.
- 1:54:34Speaker 6: Okay, I'm gonna go B.
- 1:54:36Speaker 7: Okay, Chris, I'm gonna go a black compelling locked in.
- 1:54:44Speaker 7: I haven't been this locked in since uh Jonathan Majors
- 1:54:48Speaker 7: is part and man.
- 1:54:51Speaker 5: Damn, I just love the specific of it, like just
- 1:54:56Speaker 5: that part of his part, Yeah, specifically, Yeah, and what
- 1:55:03Speaker 5: was the series he was in?
- 1:55:04Speaker 4: What was right? He was the Yeah, Loki was solid.
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: He who remains. Yeah, well that was wasted.
- 1:55:15Speaker 4: Has anyone say magazine dreams I did? I talked about it,
- 1:55:20Speaker 4: your figure, we're talking about this. I went, I went
- 1:55:24Speaker 4: and I went and saw it because we'll talk about it. Yeah,
- 1:55:27Speaker 4: we'll talk about it. That deserves its own episode.
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: I would rate. I would rate iron Heart. I would
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: give it an a minus.
- 1:55:38Speaker 2: And the minus is only because again from the second
- 1:55:40Speaker 2: watch to seeing the certain things, and it's a it's
- 1:55:42Speaker 2: a minor minus, but it's still a slight minus.
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: I'm just like, that was like I could do that
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: a little better or could have done without.
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: But yeah, everything else I think was phenomenal from the
- 1:55:53Speaker 2: top of the bottom.
- 1:55:54Speaker 4: So that elevator ship was trifling and Zeke was whack.
- 1:56:00Speaker 5: And I liked him at first, but just on the
- 1:56:02Speaker 5: second watcher was like and then electric powers was weak.
- 1:56:07Speaker 4: It was like, you know, I got it, and it's like.
- 1:56:13Speaker 6: It.
- 1:56:13Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, even though they yes,
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: they may have spend way too much time him, but
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: he still wasn't the main character.
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: It was still very still much re.
- 1:56:19Speaker 5: Read day so yeah, and it's still re reverses the hood,
- 1:56:22Speaker 5: and they that was very well done. You know, their
- 1:56:24Speaker 5: whole main beef was very well done, and they did
- 1:56:28Speaker 5: well by a lot of the side characters.
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: I just I really will agree with you here that
- 1:56:32Speaker 4: way too much. I was pen on my man Jesus
- 1:56:35Speaker 4: Christ if.
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: That especially to do more with him than what we
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: ended up with, which was I got beef with you.
- 1:56:40Speaker 6: I see you tomorrow, don't. We got real black problems
- 1:56:46Speaker 6: over here. Worried about beef with you getting out.
- 1:56:51Speaker 4: I'm about to go do a deal with the devil.
- 1:56:53Speaker 6: I got, man.
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: What's your man? What's your rating?
- 1:57:00Speaker 5: I said, B plus, ain't minus? Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely
- 1:57:03Speaker 5: I will like and I will say this again, fuck
- 1:57:06Speaker 5: all these haters r fucking off from the bottom of
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: my fucking heart, like I have, oh my god, nothing
- 1:57:11Speaker 5: but disrespect for you, and I have a lot of
- 1:57:13Speaker 5: disrespect for like the one I was going off with
- 1:57:16Speaker 5: today where they said this show is not black enough,
- 1:57:18Speaker 5: and I sent that to Gimizia because I was like,
- 1:57:20Speaker 5: I don't even know if this person is black. They
- 1:57:22Speaker 5: at least felt black for the capital B. But then
- 1:57:24Speaker 5: I feel like the other side of it where that
- 1:57:26Speaker 5: sexism in comes in so heavy, because their first thing
- 1:57:31Speaker 5: was this show is not good, and then when you
- 1:57:33Speaker 5: ask them why, they said the briding, et cetera. And
- 1:57:35Speaker 5: they could go on all day. But then when you
- 1:57:36Speaker 5: ask the specific reasons, they have none and least. And
- 1:57:40Speaker 5: then when they're like, well, it's not black enough, it
- 1:57:41Speaker 5: leads me to be like, well, no, you just hate
- 1:57:43Speaker 5: women because this show is mighty black, you know, and
- 1:57:46Speaker 5: very black enough for an MCU production.
- 1:57:49Speaker 4: But they and that was the other thing. They were like,
- 1:57:51Speaker 4: you know, the MCU just Disney just cheeps using blackness.
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: And it's like, do they really liked.
- 1:58:00Speaker 6: Breathing?
- 1:58:00Speaker 4: Like did you think Black Panther was like, you know,
- 1:58:02Speaker 4: the Disney just using blackness for real.
- 1:58:07Speaker 7: They can't see any humanity in us. Like I've said
- 1:58:10Speaker 7: this on countless podcasts that I've been on. Just when
- 1:58:14Speaker 7: I was a kid, I watched all the black black
- 1:58:17Speaker 7: people in general. For the most part, we consume all
- 1:58:20Speaker 7: of popular culture. I grew up like, Ooh, Hanso was
- 1:58:24Speaker 7: cool in Yep, Luke, Skywalker, Superman, Batman.
- 1:58:29Speaker 4: I want to be like that.
- 1:58:30Speaker 7: Yep, white people cannot do that when they see something
- 1:58:34Speaker 7: like a black panther. They it is so hard for
- 1:58:37Speaker 7: them to do the math or whatever it is, the
- 1:58:40Speaker 7: cultural math or whatever it may be, to really connect
- 1:58:43Speaker 7: to a character that's uh, you know, breathing just in
- 1:58:49Speaker 7: Pump's blood, just like them, so that they're they're never
- 1:58:52Speaker 7: gonna get it, and I feel sorry for him.
- 1:58:56Speaker 5: Shout out to all those of white kids who were
- 1:58:58Speaker 5: dressed up in Challa costs because we got video and
- 1:59:01Speaker 5: picture of y'all.
- 1:59:01Speaker 4: Soo, y'all better stay on the right.
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: Path when y'all grow up.
- 1:59:04Speaker 6: We got on the right path.
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: Come back like we don't have to say this show.
- 1:59:12Speaker 4: Remember when you remember when you had comic on.
- 1:59:15Speaker 2: Twenty three to shoot? Thank y'all so much for joining
- 1:59:19Speaker 2: us for this review of iron Heart. We appreciate both

- 1:59:25Speaker 2: your energy, your love, your reprimands, all that stuff.

- 1:59:35Speaker 6: my feedback, your feedback, you wrong.
- 1:59:38Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know what, I don't know. We're wrong.
- 1:59:43Speaker 6: All of you were wrong.
