- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome the Money and Wealth with John O'Bryant, a production
- 0:03Speaker 1: of the Black Effect Podcast Network and iHeartRadio. Yo Yo yo.
- 0:16Speaker 1: This is John O'Bryant and this is the better Have
- 0:19Speaker 1: Shacheer of Bryant. And this is a special segment of
- 0:24Speaker 1: Well anybody, you just want to see schachsfuff, so you
- 0:27Speaker 1: don't care what the segment is. What I'm saying is
- 0:29Speaker 1: a special segment.
- 0:30Speaker 2: H of health and wealth.
- 0:35Speaker 1: In many ways I've learned health is wealth. Shaterer's taught
- 0:39Speaker 1: me that this is going to be a love conversation
- 0:42Speaker 1: like about you, and you can learn a bit more
- 0:46Speaker 1: about Shadra. Behind every successful man is an exhausted woman
- 0:51Speaker 1: and I wear out her patients on a regular basis,
- 0:55Speaker 1: where she's always utterly patient with me, irrespective. And there's
- 1:03Speaker 1: so many things that I can say about her that
- 1:05Speaker 1: are great and amazing. But this is not about This
- 1:09Speaker 1: is not a love session about her, even though I'd
- 1:11Speaker 1: love to spend a session just loving on her. You
- 1:14Speaker 1: heard me talk about her before, but let me spend
- 1:18Speaker 1: some quality time explaining her through how she's loved me
- 1:23Speaker 1: so when we first met to this day, she's one
- 1:29Speaker 1: of two women whoever given me a check, my mother
- 1:35Speaker 1: and her, and it's the story. I lay in the
- 1:37Speaker 1: story out and I think the book up from nothing,
- 1:39Speaker 1: so you can read that there. And so I knew
- 1:43Speaker 1: she didn't have an agenda other than loving me. And
- 1:45Speaker 1: I knew that she was, you know, she just was.
- 1:47Speaker 1: She just cared about me. This is you know, when
- 1:49Speaker 1: I didn't have any money, I was broke, she helped
- 1:51Speaker 1: me out twenty years ago, not ever twenty five years
- 1:56Speaker 1: So I knew if she helped me when I didn't
- 1:57Speaker 1: have anything, she'd be there for me. Like Wise, when
- 2:00Speaker 1: I had a couple of dollars in my pocket, and
- 2:05Speaker 1: those things matter. It calms you in times when everything
- 2:09Speaker 1: else is frantic around you, unless you know, without a question,
- 2:12Speaker 1: somebody is absolutely for you. Fast forward, we got together
- 2:19Speaker 1: and after knowing each other for twenty almost twenty years,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and I invited her to go to Malli this is
- 2:28Speaker 1: my little my place of peace. And she said yes,
- 2:32Speaker 1: and then she said no. She's like, I'm concerned about
- 2:35Speaker 1: your blood pressure, Like your blood pressure seems a little high.
- 2:38Speaker 1: You need to go to the cardiologist. I'm like, I'll
- 2:41Speaker 1: be fine, I'm superman. She's like, no, you're if you
- 2:45Speaker 1: want to be my man, you need to get your
- 2:47Speaker 1: heart checked. So anyway, I go to the cardiologist and
- 2:51Speaker 1: she was right. My blood pressure was I mean, it
- 2:53Speaker 1: was almost it was like two hundred over one hundred.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Not that bad, but it was it was it was like, yeah,
- 3:01Speaker 3: it was like one eighty over. It was in a
- 3:04Speaker 3: space of concern even though you were on blood pressure medicine.
- 3:11Speaker 1: M was I a bloo pressure medicine. I don't think
- 3:13Speaker 1: I was taking it? Actually no, actually I'm almost pros right.
- 3:16Speaker 2: You weren't taking your medicine. I don't think I got
- 3:18Speaker 2: the medicine.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Is anything I needed any I didn't think I need
- 3:20Speaker 1: I needed any medicine. I thought I'm superman, I'm John O'Brien.
- 3:23Speaker 1: I don't need medicine. I look great, right, So anyway,
- 3:27Speaker 1: so we go to the cardiologies. Cardiology is like, yo, man,
- 3:30Speaker 1: you really are in great shape and you are sort
- 3:32Speaker 1: of weird. But even somebody who goes with your burns up,
- 3:36Speaker 1: your so kind of energy and you know, and you're
- 3:38Speaker 1: you know, you're getting exercise, airports on stuff. You still
- 3:42Speaker 1: black folks have you know, blood pressure issues, and your
- 3:44Speaker 1: blood pressure is normally high and that's all you do
- 3:47Speaker 1: is mention the word stroke, Like that's it could be
- 3:49Speaker 1: in strokes though, Right, So he's like, you gotta take
- 3:54Speaker 1: your medicine. And I thought it was like a symbol
- 3:56Speaker 1: of of weakness, that I've got to take some medicine.
- 3:59Speaker 1: It it was a real thing for me, like because
- 4:02Speaker 1: taking the medicine meant that I wasn't perfect. That it
- 4:04Speaker 1: was a whole other thing about accepting that perfection didn't exist.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Just the best you can do. That's what one of
- 4:10Speaker 1: my quotes I love is, don't let the perfect be
- 4:12Speaker 1: the death of the good. Like even your iPhone sixteen,
- 4:15Speaker 1: if you have one of those, they're already issuing a
- 4:18Speaker 1: software that's almost an iPhone nineteen software. The phone just
- 4:22Speaker 1: came out. They've already you know, sixteen, sixteen, five, seventeen,
- 4:25Speaker 1: seventeen five, eighteen eighteen five, because they're constantly upgrading it
- 4:28Speaker 1: because there's glitches. No matter what you do, you can
- 4:31Speaker 1: always improve upon it, and they're always be imperfect. So
- 4:34Speaker 1: I had to accept that God made me perfect in sight,
- 4:37Speaker 1: but I was imperfect in my plight and how I
- 4:40Speaker 1: had operated. Because we're human, we live in this world
- 4:43Speaker 1: with toxins all around us or whatever. So I had
- 4:46Speaker 1: to get over the fact that I needed to take medicine.
- 4:48Speaker 1: So I got that. We went to Maloi. She finally
- 4:51Speaker 1: allowed us to go on the plane go to Malai.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Has a great time. And normally I go to Mali
- 4:55Speaker 1: and you know, two or three weeks of being in
- 4:58Speaker 1: this beautiful place, you know, any any flab or whatever
- 5:02Speaker 1: on me. I'm on a bike every day or whatever.
- 5:05Speaker 1: But this time the flab wouldn't go away, and I
- 5:07Speaker 1: don't I'm vain. So I had handles here. I'm like,
- 5:09Speaker 1: oh no, I'm not doing that. That's not happening. So
- 5:12Speaker 1: she didn't say a word. This is when you got
- 5:13Speaker 1: the power, you don't need to use it. She didn't
- 5:16Speaker 1: say a word. So we get back from MAUI had
- 5:18Speaker 1: a great time, and I was in New York City.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I remember it was like two in the morning. I
- 5:23Speaker 1: was walking across the street to get some thumbs. I
- 5:27Speaker 1: was popping this pepton of this moment thumbs, and so
- 5:30Speaker 1: she finally I'm walking across the street is two in
- 5:32Speaker 1: the morning, from the hotel. She's like, are you done? Like,
- 5:36Speaker 1: are you ready for this conversation? Well, what she's like
- 5:41Speaker 1: you need to cleanse. Like, you know, I can't talk
- 5:44Speaker 1: you into this. You're hardheaded, your double alpha, but are
- 5:48Speaker 1: if you're ready for a real conversation, like you just
- 5:50Speaker 1: gotta get this. She taught me a couple of things
- 5:53Speaker 1: that just blew my mind. One seventy five percent of
- 5:56Speaker 1: all disease lives on inflammation. To get that right, And
- 6:01Speaker 1: you're inflamed. You're inflamed because you're eating a lot of
- 6:04Speaker 1: processed food and your lungs. Your body is not prepared,
- 6:08Speaker 1: it is not designed to process processed food. Your body's
- 6:12Speaker 1: designed for natural you know, food from the earth, and
- 6:16Speaker 1: so on and so forth. And what she said made
- 6:18Speaker 1: all the sense in the world to me. And she says, well,
- 6:20Speaker 1: you can't get this because it's not fat. This is
- 6:22Speaker 1: not fat. You're inflamed and you can't work that off.
- 6:24Speaker 1: You've got to have to cleanse it out of your body.
- 6:28Speaker 1: And so I'm like, okay, I'm too vain, Like I
- 6:30Speaker 1: can't have this this stuff here. So what do I
- 6:32Speaker 1: have to do? So I went on a cleanse. I
- 6:33Speaker 1: think she suggested a whimp cleanse for like five days.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I did it for you know, almost two weeks. I
- 6:40Speaker 1: was very proud of myself. And it wasn't bad. It
- 6:45Speaker 1: was okay. So one thing she did on this trip
- 6:48Speaker 1: to Maue, she blew my mind. Well, my thing about
- 6:52Speaker 1: being I call it a flexitarian. She might call it
- 6:56Speaker 1: a pescatarian, or you might call it a vegetarian or
- 6:59Speaker 1: what's the other onegetarian. Then there's vegan, all these different
- 7:03Speaker 1: elements of cleansing vegan, Rod McGrew. My dear friend is
- 7:08Speaker 1: a vegan, I believe. So I'm like, this stuff is nasty.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I'm not eating a nasty Don't put anohing nasty in
- 7:16Speaker 1: my mouth if you want me to do this. So,
- 7:19Speaker 1: brothers watching this, can you relate to what I'm saying?
- 7:21Speaker 1: So she gives me a chocolate chip cookie handmade in Mali.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I'm like, does she realize what she just did? Like,
- 7:30Speaker 1: I'm not gonna tell her. Did she just gave me
- 7:32Speaker 1: like like chocolate gold right, And so this is toxin
- 7:38Speaker 1: on steroids. So I'm eating this, you know, before she
- 7:41Speaker 1: figures it out. Well, she's given me and she doesn't
- 7:44Speaker 1: say a word. I'm like, I mean, I've eaten the
- 7:46Speaker 1: whole box. Play do these things? Shay, you're cool with this? Yeah, yeah,
- 7:51Speaker 1: perfectly fine with us. Why and then she shows me
- 7:55Speaker 1: the ingredients or the box. It's a vegan cookie. I
- 7:59Speaker 1: mean it was delicious. Second thing I learned was I
- 8:03Speaker 1: love coffee and I used to put white sugar in
- 8:07Speaker 1: h in the coffee. I don't drink, I'll do drugs.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I don't. I don't, I don't, I don't, you know, don't.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I don't have an alcohol problem. I don't have drug problem.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I don't smoke. But but I would, you know, I
- 8:16Speaker 1: love coffee and i'd put this white sugar and she would.
- 8:19Speaker 1: She explained to me that that's like poison and it's
- 8:23Speaker 1: and so she explained to me, like this is the
- 8:25Speaker 1: worst thing in the world sugar. And I tried brown
- 8:28Speaker 1: sugar and I was like, this is pretty cool. But
- 8:30Speaker 1: you know, she gave me this creamer. Do you remember
- 8:33Speaker 1: the name of it? And natural creamer? Do we know
- 8:37Speaker 1: that we do? We say that the brand like we came.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Remember the brand anyway if you want, if you really
- 8:41Speaker 1: interested in the comment, well, we don't want to promote somebody
- 8:44Speaker 1: some We don't mind promoting it. Actually a good brand.
- 8:47Speaker 1: But I can't remember the moment, but we use this creamer,
- 8:50Speaker 1: all natural it replaced sugar and cream delicious, like I
- 8:54Speaker 1: mean completely natural. So over and over again, all of
- 8:57Speaker 1: my biases got remote when we go to Maui or
- 9:01Speaker 1: we go to Turks and tacos where we literally pack
- 9:03Speaker 1: in the in the in the luggage the just cause
- 9:06Speaker 1: they don't have it there. So that's a couple of stories.
- 9:08Speaker 1: And my blood pressure came down naturally based on what
- 9:11Speaker 1: she was telling me to do. And now for a
- 9:13Speaker 1: long time, the longest time, I took half a peal
- 9:16Speaker 1: and the goal is to sort of work me off
- 9:18Speaker 1: of that. If I'm on a high stress period. Uh,
- 9:21Speaker 1: she says, it talls me on tour. If I'm on tour,
- 9:23Speaker 1: then she might encourage me to take the full pill
- 9:26Speaker 1: for a period of time because I'm just depleted, not
- 9:29Speaker 1: sleeping well all the kind of stuff. We're gonna get
- 9:31Speaker 1: to the power sleep in a minute. So these are
- 9:33Speaker 1: a couple times where you know, she really maybe just
- 9:36Speaker 1: saved my life. Like literally that blood pressure think can
- 9:39Speaker 1: literally not take you out.
- 9:40Speaker 2: You know. I feel that we just don't go to
- 9:44Speaker 2: the doctor enough.
- 9:45Speaker 3: And when we when we get the simple signs, like
- 9:48Speaker 3: if there is a number that's off, it's called integrative
- 9:51Speaker 3: care and we just need.
- 9:53Speaker 2: To catch it then.
- 9:55Speaker 3: And you know, I know, I stay on John about
- 9:58Speaker 3: his blood pressure, but I have the same problem. And
- 10:01Speaker 3: that's actually what birthed me into doing wellness and helping
- 10:04Speaker 3: other people learn about blood pressure and how to naturally
- 10:08Speaker 3: work your way into eating better and living a healthier
- 10:12Speaker 3: lifestyle from that, because I just had really bad side
- 10:16Speaker 3: effects from some of the medication. And I was much
- 10:19Speaker 3: younger when I got diagnosed with high blood pressure, and
- 10:24Speaker 3: I just struggled with the medication. But I took the
- 10:28Speaker 3: medication because my blood pressure was high and I didn't
- 10:31Speaker 3: want to have a heart attack, and so I worked
- 10:34Speaker 3: integratedly with my doctor and it took me two years.
- 10:37Speaker 3: It didn't happen overnight. And that's really what like birthed
- 10:41Speaker 3: me being able to like help others. You're in your twenties, right,
- 10:44Speaker 3: I was in my twenties and I was on three D.
- 10:47Speaker 1: She thought she was bulletproof too, right. When I tell
- 10:49Speaker 1: you that this was a vipre bracelet girl. I mean
- 10:52Speaker 1: she would go to three events where events a night
- 10:53Speaker 1: and be like, okay, what else, this is only midnight?
- 10:56Speaker 3: One of the more I didn't even know a lot
- 10:58Speaker 3: of people when they get diagnosed with high blood pressure,
- 11:01Speaker 3: they don't even know.
- 11:01Speaker 2: You don't you don't know you have high blood pressure.
- 11:03Speaker 3: So, you know, I was just going for my my
- 11:06Speaker 3: yearly regular blood my yearly regular wellness checkup, and they're.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Like, wait a minute, their pressure is really high. Do
- 11:16Speaker 2: you feel dizzy?
- 11:17Speaker 3: And she was twenty no, you know, and so they're like, oh,
- 11:20Speaker 3: we're going to put you on some medication. And I
- 11:22Speaker 3: was like okay, And of course I took the medication.
- 11:25Speaker 3: But because I studied nutrition and or biology and she's.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Got a degree in nutrition really and degree and degree
- 11:35Speaker 1: in fashion, and you know, she's like a triple threat.
- 11:40Speaker 3: But but I had high blood pressure and I was
- 11:44Speaker 3: able to work my way off of it, and it
- 11:46Speaker 3: took me two years, and I just am able to
- 11:48Speaker 3: kind of like help others guide them along.
- 11:52Speaker 2: And so you've done You've done a good job. He's
- 11:54Speaker 2: done a nice job.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Not that and the most recent threat, so you know,
- 11:58Speaker 1: before we start talking about you and about me, the
- 12:00Speaker 1: most recent threat, uh, you know, one of the things
- 12:05Speaker 1: that men get is prostate cancer and all this stuff
- 12:07Speaker 1: and colon cancer whatever. And after I went through these
- 12:12Speaker 1: yearly uh, I don't want to get too graphic here,
- 12:15Speaker 1: but I'd go to a yearly physical and they would
- 12:18Speaker 1: check you out for prostate cancer. He brother knows what
- 12:21Speaker 1: I'm talking about. Brother, don't fear it. Just go just
- 12:24Speaker 1: go do it. We know you're a real man. Yes, yes, yes,
- 12:29Speaker 1: but I'm just being real, like I had to get
- 12:31Speaker 1: used to the whole situation. So anyway, then now that
- 12:34Speaker 1: so now that was enough. Now they tell me I
- 12:36Speaker 1: need to go to get a colin Aska. I've heard
- 12:38Speaker 1: all kind of stories about that, and uh and let
- 12:42Speaker 1: me just tell you, the stories are overblown. I went out,
- 12:46Speaker 1: you got the preparation, Oh my god, and then you
- 12:49Speaker 1: go to the thing. It's all over blown. The preparation
- 12:51Speaker 1: is nothing. You go to the to get the colonoscopy,
- 12:55Speaker 1: they knock you out. It's nothing. And you walk out
- 12:59Speaker 1: and you'll like okay when you're starting like no, it's
- 13:02Speaker 1: over and it's like nothing. And here's the greatest, the
- 13:05Speaker 1: great part. If you're clean. And I was clean, Uh no,
- 13:09Speaker 1: pun intended. H you're good for ten years. You don't
- 13:11Speaker 1: wan to go back for ten years? Like yeah, So
- 13:16Speaker 1: I did a video. I was sort of loopy. They
- 13:18Speaker 1: gave me some kind of drugs I would do drugs.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I was gone, I was loopy. Shade was in the
- 13:23Speaker 1: vand with me and I went the way home, and
- 13:26Speaker 1: I was like, brothers, you gotta go do this. Uh.
- 13:28Speaker 1: And if you if you like being relaxed, then then
- 13:30Speaker 1: whatever they given you will do that too. It's a
- 13:33Speaker 1: natural high, you know, a natural high. What is permitted
- 13:38Speaker 1: high anyway? So I've checked all the boxes and I can.
- 13:43Speaker 1: I can tell you that working out every day a
- 13:45Speaker 1: little bit, and staying in shape and eating right. The
- 13:49Speaker 1: food is good actually, and I make sure every time
- 13:53Speaker 1: I eat something. If I'm gonna eat beef, it's farm raised.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Whenever I can. I try to eat fish times a week.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Something green on my plate, something and a little bit
- 14:03Speaker 1: of starch that she doesn't adver get the starch I do,
- 14:06Speaker 1: but she wants something green on your plate. Salad won't
- 14:09Speaker 1: kill your brothers. Okay. So let's get into this because
- 14:23Speaker 1: she's also the chairwoman of the National Minority Health Association.
- 14:27Speaker 1: She has a company called Welder's three sixty. If you
- 14:30Speaker 1: come to the whole little form, you've seen the Welder's
- 14:32Speaker 1: three sixty boots, if you want to call her that.
- 14:35Speaker 1: At the form and she does free wellness checkups. This
- 14:39Speaker 1: last time they were sold out. I who would call
- 14:41Speaker 1: her that there was just no appointments available. I try
- 14:43Speaker 1: to get an appointment. I couldn't. I was like a hell,
- 14:45Speaker 1: I'm the chairman and founder and that's my wife. That
- 14:47Speaker 1: like we going to see her at home because there's
- 14:49Speaker 1: no appointments here. Brothers, it's a couple sponsors were upsets
- 14:51Speaker 1: they couldn't get in. It was very very popular. Okay,
- 14:55Speaker 1: so black wealth gaps. None of that matters if you
- 15:02Speaker 1: aren't here to enjoy it. So let's have some real
- 15:07Speaker 1: talk conversation.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Basically able to be able to do to enjoy it, right, Well, yeah, yeah,
- 15:14Speaker 2: yeah capacity.
- 15:16Speaker 1: So let's but let's let's deal with you ain't here first.
- 15:20Speaker 1: So if you live in a in a five hundred
- 15:22Speaker 1: credit score neighborhood, you lived to sixty one years of age.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I have a theory about that. I think you think.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I think you're the surviving mindset. I think you're stressed out.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I think you're I think you're depressed. I think that
- 15:32Speaker 1: your body just wears down, no different than if you're
- 15:34Speaker 1: three hundred and fifty pounds. There's no there's no three
- 15:36Speaker 1: hundredifty pounds eighty year olds, because your body wasn't designed
- 15:40Speaker 1: to handle three hund fifty pounds. Your knees, your lungs, nothing,
- 15:43Speaker 1: and so you just your body gives out. Think about that.
- 15:45Speaker 1: There are no three hundre fifty pound eighty year olds.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Think about that. So likewise, you know, if you're not
- 15:53Speaker 1: human beings having a spiritual experience or spiritual beings having
- 15:55Speaker 1: a human experience, it makes sense that you in a
- 15:58Speaker 1: seven hundred credit square to eighty one, fifteen minutes away
- 16:02Speaker 1: in a fire recrest coordinator, and you lived at sixty
- 16:04Speaker 1: one before you get sold security, you've dropped dead. Let's
- 16:07Speaker 1: talk about people who've actually made a lot of money
- 16:09Speaker 1: and unfortunately health took them out. Chadwick Boseman, forty three
- 16:15Speaker 1: years of age, brilliant brother. I mean, I just loved
- 16:19Speaker 1: the movies and loved his character. Didn't a chance to
- 16:22Speaker 1: meet him, but what I know about him amazing. Didn't
- 16:24Speaker 1: share his colon cancer diagnosis publicly. The importance of screening
- 16:29Speaker 1: for black men is omnipotent. We've been talking about that.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Just get screened on a regular basis and don't and
- 16:35Speaker 1: no shame in this game right and DMX he was
- 16:40Speaker 1: fifty years old. Addiction and trauma untreated. Conversations of mental
- 16:46Speaker 1: health and generational pain are really important. My brother Charlemagne
- 16:49Speaker 1: that God is really passionate about mental health and has
- 16:54Speaker 1: a mental health foundation. We've got to start talking about
- 16:57Speaker 1: our mindset and being cool about the fact that we're
- 17:01Speaker 1: not cool. Or I put another way, if you're black
- 17:04Speaker 1: in America and don't think you're a little crazy, you're
- 17:06Speaker 1: probably crazy. This world will drive you nuts. Just acknowledge it. Right.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Heavy d forty four years of age, died a pulmonary
- 17:16Speaker 1: of a pulmonary embolism, signs of sedentary lifestyle and post
- 17:21Speaker 1: weight loss health management. Andre Heral, fifty nine years of age.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I'm fifty nine heart failure. I mean a music mogul
- 17:31Speaker 1: who helped shape the culture, yet neglected self care. Maybe
- 17:36Speaker 1: so Shayha might add. Fame and money do not protect
- 17:39Speaker 1: you from preventable diseases and death. In some cases, that
- 17:43Speaker 1: make you more vulnerable because you think maybe that you
- 17:46Speaker 1: are you think that it doesn't apply to you. Think
- 17:52Speaker 1: about Prince whatever he was dealing with, you know, nobody
- 17:56Speaker 1: called it around him. There's so many examples of this
- 18:00Speaker 1: Shanna will have these conversations about We'll hear some icon
- 18:04Speaker 1: or somebody she knows in their forties or fifties dropped
- 18:07Speaker 1: in and she's like, this is and it just frustrates
- 18:10Speaker 1: her because she thinks that with a little bit of
- 18:12Speaker 1: self care, people loving on them like she's loved on me,
- 18:15Speaker 1: they'd still be around and have children, grandchildren, etc. What's
- 18:20Speaker 1: your opinion about that?
- 18:21Speaker 3: Also, you know, you don't want to have kidney failure,
- 18:28Speaker 3: which leads to kidney dialysis, which leads to possible amputation,
- 18:34Speaker 3: which means you're.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Not going to be able to live your best life.
- 18:37Speaker 3: And I know dropping dead is one thing, but also
- 18:41Speaker 3: not feeling your best is another. So it's very hard
- 18:45Speaker 3: to function and build wealth and thrive and do all
- 18:49Speaker 3: the things and have joy and play with your kids
- 18:52Speaker 3: and go on vacations or whatever your pleasure is.
- 18:56Speaker 2: It's very hard to do that.
- 18:58Speaker 3: And when you don't feel good, and it's very hard
- 19:02Speaker 3: to work at your maximum human capacity, when you know
- 19:06Speaker 3: you have some type of illness or even just are sluggish.
- 19:10Speaker 3: I mean, it's I mean, we're deep diving into disease
- 19:13Speaker 3: right now, but we're really talking about mindfulness and wellness
- 19:17Speaker 3: and taking care of yourself and nurturing yourself and putting
- 19:20Speaker 3: yourself first in terms of self love and self care
- 19:24Speaker 3: and nurturing. And I think that that's the real conversation,
- 19:28Speaker 3: the real route for my space is in order for
- 19:32Speaker 3: you to be able to do and at your your
- 19:35Speaker 3: maximum potential and give, you've got to be able to
- 19:38Speaker 3: fill your own cup with self care and prevention and
- 19:43Speaker 3: remove a shame.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and like.
- 19:46Speaker 3: You know, we can sit here and say, I'm sure
- 19:49Speaker 3: I don't know if people would think, oh, you guys
- 19:51Speaker 3: have had high blood pressure, or oh you guys have
- 19:54Speaker 3: had to watch your sugar.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Intake or yes, yesterday this morning.
- 20:00Speaker 3: You know, Yeah, we have to watch everything that we
- 20:03Speaker 3: do and make it a priority to take care of
- 20:07Speaker 3: ourselves so that you know we're able to to perform
- 20:11Speaker 3: and deliver, you know, the best, our best selves to
- 20:16Speaker 3: to helping others.
- 20:17Speaker 1: And so by the way, look at that that that
- 20:19Speaker 1: By the way, this was not conscious, but I'd noticed
- 20:21Speaker 1: it as I was doing it. I don't hurt. I'm
- 20:24Speaker 1: doing this whenever I've got a moment. I'm this is stretching.
- 20:27Speaker 1: So I'm sitting here senatory, sedatary, but I'm giving myself
- 20:31Speaker 1: a little bit of a stretch. Right. You can do
- 20:33Speaker 1: this from where you're sitting, right. I do this. I
- 20:35Speaker 1: stretch every day every you know, every morning, I do
- 20:38Speaker 1: a fifty minute workout when I wake up. Push ups,
- 20:40Speaker 1: set ups, squats, just your boy. Got to keep your
- 20:45Speaker 1: body moving. If I can get there's a gym where
- 20:47Speaker 1: I'm staying, with the hotel whatever, I go to the
- 20:49Speaker 1: gym when I can, when I don't.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Have I mean, hydration is every.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Hydration water, water, bottle water, water, Yeah, water, water, water,
- 20:56Speaker 1: more water, and and and.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Things that that. You have to find your own rhythm,
- 21:02Speaker 2: add things, your own lifestyle that works for you, that
- 21:06Speaker 2: doesn't stress you out and becomes like a daily routine
- 21:10Speaker 2: that makes you feel better, not something that you know
- 21:12Speaker 2: adds more stress to your life. You have to figure
- 21:15Speaker 2: out your steps like that works just for you.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Let me let me say something. She's much nicer than me.
- 21:20Speaker 1: If you if you figure this out, I'm the egle.
- 21:22Speaker 1: She is a butterfly. I'm the hard No, she's the love.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I'm the you know. Yeah, once you people talk to her,
- 21:29Speaker 1: they forget I'm in the room. But let me just
- 21:32Speaker 1: say this, like straight up wellness is a radical act
- 21:37Speaker 1: of black love self black love for black people. And
- 21:42Speaker 1: you've been hoodwinked, you've been bamboozled, you've been tricked, you've
- 21:45Speaker 1: been fooled. This is why you're starting off on the
- 21:48Speaker 1: bad foot. When you see black people in our neighborhoods,
- 21:50Speaker 1: a lot of them are are large. But it's not
- 21:54Speaker 1: that they're not. In my opinion, they're not overweight. They're obese.
- 21:59Speaker 1: But I think you're in flight. This is just my philosophy.
- 22:01Speaker 1: I think a lot of black people are inflamed, like literally,
- 22:04Speaker 1: just like right, and I think it's yes, stress and
- 22:07Speaker 1: all that stuff. It's environmental, but it's also a slave diet. Yeah,
- 22:10Speaker 1: I said it. Uh that in the slavery period, the man,
- 22:15Speaker 1: the plantation owner threw the crappiest food out the back
- 22:19Speaker 1: door as a sign of disrespect. Don't trust me on this,
- 22:22Speaker 1: do your own research. And it was and we we
- 22:25Speaker 1: we turned it. Black folk's been doing so much with
- 22:27Speaker 1: so little for so long. We can almost do anything
- 22:29Speaker 1: with nothing. Now. I'm not trying to put the soul
- 22:31Speaker 1: food restaurants out of business. So don't you Okay, slow down, Okay,
- 22:36Speaker 1: you give an excuse me before we explain it. So
- 22:40Speaker 1: I love, I love sof I eat soufood, just don't
- 22:43Speaker 1: just don't do it three times a day every day.
- 22:46Speaker 1: So they threw this stuff out the back door, and
- 22:48Speaker 1: we turn it into delicacies, grits, hog malls, pig feet
- 22:54Speaker 1: of ribs, fried chicken. I mean, why do we do
- 22:58Speaker 1: salt which is a big contributor to uh is it
- 23:03Speaker 1: blood pressure? But we do salt on that, on that
- 23:06Speaker 1: that that food. Why because it was out in the
- 23:08Speaker 1: heat and and one way you preserve food is to
- 23:12Speaker 1: salt it up. Well, that salt over generations. I think
- 23:15Speaker 1: it's seeped into our whole DNA. I mean we're talking about,
- 23:18Speaker 1: you know, talk about two hundred and seventy years of
- 23:19Speaker 1: slavery and then one hundred years of Jim Crow. It's
- 23:22Speaker 1: a long time to have things embedded in your in
- 23:26Speaker 1: your culture, in your in your in your spirit. So
- 23:28Speaker 1: I think that just we got used to this food.
- 23:30Speaker 1: We eat it as you know, we ate it because
- 23:33Speaker 1: we had to. Then we ate it because we liked it,
- 23:35Speaker 1: and because I think it became almost a companion, a
- 23:38Speaker 1: comfort food, and we have got to and then combine
- 23:41Speaker 1: that with fast food and poor, poor neighborhoods with a
- 23:44Speaker 1: lot of it. It's fast but not food. She's gonna
- 23:47Speaker 1: teach me this. Also, I try to eat fast food
- 23:53Speaker 1: when I have no other choice. Uh, some fast foods
- 23:56Speaker 1: are better than others. I do, like McDonald's.
- 23:59Speaker 3: French fries and now fast food restaurants, they also have healthy,
- 24:04Speaker 3: healthy choices, like so much do.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Certain things. It's the way you prepare it.
- 24:12Speaker 3: So if you're going to have soul food, which I
- 24:15Speaker 3: like soul food myself too, and it's just the way
- 24:19Speaker 3: you prepare it. You know, be mindful about the salt
- 24:21Speaker 3: and the sugar. You can still have healthy colored greens.
- 24:25Speaker 1: And don't you're a healthy salt that you put on potatoes.
- 24:29Speaker 1: There's a healthier salt salt.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Just be mindful about the way that you prepare you know,
- 24:37Speaker 3: fried chicken, Bake the chicken instead of fry it or
- 24:42Speaker 3: god or air fry it. Just you know, it's really
- 24:46Speaker 3: about a healthier alternative to add into your daily experience,
- 24:51Speaker 3: not just don't.
- 24:53Speaker 2: If you you know, if you're going to go through
- 24:55Speaker 2: a fast food.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Restaurant, then try to make the healthiest decision of what's when.
- 25:00Speaker 2: You go through it.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Yeah, the least bad option. Here's a weird thing. When
- 25:10Speaker 1: I eat something that I think I want now because
- 25:14Speaker 1: she's not around something really bad for me, my body's like,
- 25:18Speaker 1: it's so clean now that it rejects it. Like I
- 25:22Speaker 1: can eat I used to be to eat eight donuts,
- 25:25Speaker 1: you know, I can't get through one before my body'
- 25:28Speaker 1: is like, oh that was good. Oh no, that's really bad.
- 25:32Speaker 1: That's just one example. But the stuff that used to
- 25:36Speaker 1: turn me on turns me off now, Like my body
- 25:38Speaker 1: just does just reject it. Her body is very sensitive.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Like if she eats the wrong thing, she's she's just
- 25:44Speaker 1: not Her body is not a happy camper. It rejects it.
- 25:47Speaker 1: She's sure body is very clean and I respect that actually,
- 25:52Speaker 1: and as a result of that's kept her timeless. I
- 25:55Speaker 1: dare you to guess. So I think we've gotta be got.
- 26:01Speaker 1: We've got to be concerned about not just financial wealth,
- 26:05Speaker 1: but physical health. And there are some tips and tricks
- 26:10Speaker 1: that Schaitra has and hopefully she will give you some
- 26:14Speaker 1: before we end this podcast. But you know, let's acknowledge
- 26:17Speaker 1: some things. It's stressful being black. Twenty four to seven.
- 26:20Speaker 1: It's like my boy, my brother CEO of Walmart Dougrick
- 26:25Speaker 1: Millan after George Floyd got murdered, he invited me to
- 26:31Speaker 1: a diversity session. I'm like, Doug, I'm black, Like I
- 26:35Speaker 1: think I get it. He's like, just trust me, these
- 26:38Speaker 1: are just too many favors. Just come maybe educate everybody else.
- 26:41Speaker 1: I mean we were in talks and kikos and I
- 26:42Speaker 1: business as a favorite to Doug. And by the way,
- 26:46Speaker 1: they're still fully committed to underserved communities. Of the largest
- 26:49Speaker 1: employer of black people in the country, we just so
- 26:51Speaker 1: you know, three thousand that just by the way, look
- 26:54Speaker 1: at the data. They're still employing people, contracting the whole thing.
- 26:57Speaker 1: They just doesn't want to be in political football. So anyway,
- 27:01Speaker 1: so Ducks, who grew up in Walmart was a box boy,
- 27:04Speaker 1: I mean, like a stocking shelves and now he's CEO. Anyway,
- 27:07Speaker 1: he he gets me to go to this session and
- 27:11Speaker 1: I'm hooked. Like the session was incredible. I learned so much.
- 27:14Speaker 1: But the line I remember, if you're white, how often
- 27:20Speaker 1: do you think about being white? Respondents on the video
- 27:25Speaker 1: call almost never. Why would you if you're black? How
- 27:29Speaker 1: often do you think about being black? All the time?
- 27:33Speaker 1: Every day? The last five minutes. You go to a store,
- 27:37Speaker 1: you go, you know, you get put over by the police.
- 27:40Speaker 1: You see the police. You know, you're thinking about how
- 27:43Speaker 1: you present yourself in a meeting. You realize that you
- 27:45Speaker 1: got to be twice as smart, twice as intelligent, twice
- 27:47Speaker 1: as well addressed, get up twice as early, a stap,
- 27:49Speaker 1: twice as late, be twice as good because you're going
- 27:52Speaker 1: to be judge and get half of the credit. That's stressful.
- 27:56Speaker 1: You know. She tells me the plight of black women
- 27:59Speaker 1: all the time, and you know it must be really
- 28:02Speaker 1: stressful to be a black woman. But I know what
- 28:04Speaker 1: it's like being a black man, and the haters have
- 28:07Speaker 1: made me better, made me better. But I do realize
- 28:10Speaker 1: how many years I went around what I call my
- 28:12Speaker 1: my rear end tight, like I was just trying to
- 28:13Speaker 1: be perfect and it was, you know, I realized there
- 28:16Speaker 1: was no perfect now, But I mean I was just
- 28:18Speaker 1: overdoing everything and it was it was damaging my health.
- 28:22Speaker 1: And so it is, let's just acknowledge that if you're
- 28:25Speaker 1: black and you're looking at this one's no one's giving
- 28:27Speaker 1: you a lecture, no one's talking down to you. We
- 28:29Speaker 1: acknowledge it is if you're black. You borre on probation
- 28:33Speaker 1: in America. Yeah, me twice, you know, twice as good
- 28:35Speaker 1: and that may not be good enough. But we want
- 28:38Speaker 1: you to love yourself first, because I think that a
- 28:43Speaker 1: lot of black people are depressed. And if I don't
- 28:47Speaker 1: like me, I'm not gonna like you. If I don't
- 28:48Speaker 1: feel good about me, I'm not gonna feel good about you.
- 28:50Speaker 1: If I don't respect me, don't expect me to respect you.
- 28:53Speaker 1: If I don't love me, I don't have a clue
- 28:54Speaker 1: how to love you. Look at her, she clearly loves herself. Right.
- 28:57Speaker 1: She's not in love with herself. She knows that there
- 28:59Speaker 1: are many faults, but she loves herself, which which allows
- 29:03Speaker 1: her to love others. Right. So you can't give what
- 29:06Speaker 1: you don't have. So I want you to learn to
- 29:08Speaker 1: love yourself. And I want you to have a routine
- 29:11Speaker 1: that is mental, psychological, and physical. What are some of
- 29:16Speaker 1: the things. What are the key and sleep, movement, hydration,
- 29:20Speaker 1: regular checkups? What is some of the things.
- 29:22Speaker 3: The first thing is to if you can get yourself
- 29:25Speaker 3: to a wellness checkup. If you've put it off, don't
- 29:29Speaker 3: put it off any longer. Get a group.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Together and hold each other accountable. That's what we do.
- 29:36Speaker 2: My girlfriends and I.
- 29:38Speaker 3: We I have a tribe and we keep each other
- 29:40Speaker 3: accountable because as nurtures, we naturally have a tendency not
- 29:45Speaker 3: to do what we were supposed to do. And you know,
- 29:50Speaker 3: at the top of the year, we hold each other accountable.
- 29:53Speaker 3: And I will say even I will ignore it sometime,
- 29:58Speaker 3: you know, like they'll pay Okay, ladies, wellness checks time.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Who hasn't been you know, And I'm like, am I
- 30:04Speaker 3: the last one that hasn't gone?
- 30:06Speaker 1: But also, you guys work out together. Yeah, you guys
- 30:09Speaker 1: were walking in the morning and running in the morning,
- 30:11Speaker 1: six or seven in the morning, some crazy thing.
- 30:13Speaker 3: But it works because you know it's because you know,
- 30:16Speaker 3: if to get the kids off to school and you know,
- 30:18Speaker 3: so we you have to carve out a time. But
- 30:22Speaker 3: if you have someone that does it with you, and
- 30:24Speaker 3: you find something fun to do together, then you'll continue
- 30:28Speaker 3: to do it.
- 30:29Speaker 1: So let me tell you. Let me tell you a
- 30:31Speaker 1: shape of a hack that she took too far. She
- 30:34Speaker 1: told me that seventy percent of of work of staying
- 30:40Speaker 1: in good shape. People look at her like, my god,
- 30:43Speaker 1: how do you how do you do this? You look great? Right?
- 30:45Speaker 1: She told me, seventy percent of this is what you
- 30:47Speaker 1: put in your mouth is what you eat, well thirty
- 30:50Speaker 1: percents working out or something like that. Yeah, because she
- 30:52Speaker 1: lived in Manhattan for so long, she she would walk
- 30:55Speaker 1: around with three is pumps all through Manhattan with a
- 30:57Speaker 1: skirt and move a lot. We move a lot, so
- 30:59Speaker 1: you're now actually in motion. So she just took that
- 31:02Speaker 1: for granted. And uh, well she moved to Atlanta and
- 31:05Speaker 1: it's not a city you walk around it, see you
- 31:08Speaker 1: drive it.
- 31:08Speaker 2: I have to really like make an effort.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Yeah, so she she realized she wasn't working out, so
- 31:13Speaker 1: she wasn't doing the thirty percent. So she now she's
- 31:15Speaker 1: on that. So even she falls off, I fall off
- 31:20Speaker 1: like you're human.
- 31:21Speaker 2: I fall off like every week.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Not that much.
- 31:23Speaker 4: But yeh yeah, you know we're just saying that, just
- 31:27Speaker 4: cut yourself a break. But but my suggestion is too
- 31:31Speaker 4: and she's in bed by midnight, so sleep sleep is
- 31:37Speaker 4: she will walk, she will go to sleep on you
- 31:38Speaker 4: in the mid sentence like midnight is, oh, she's she's
- 31:44Speaker 4: committed to Well, it took me a long time.
- 31:46Speaker 3: It took me a long time to train myself to
- 31:48Speaker 3: get proper amount of sleep, and I would it would
- 31:52Speaker 3: it would be hard for me to get through the
- 31:54Speaker 3: days because I need my brain. And so if I
- 31:57Speaker 3: don't get enough adequate amount of sleep, I can not
- 32:00Speaker 3: full fully give. You know, if I'm health coaching or
- 32:04Speaker 3: doing something for the community or taking care of somebody,
- 32:08Speaker 3: I just I need to be able to give my
- 32:10Speaker 3: full self and just for me, I need that amount
- 32:14Speaker 3: of sleep in order to be able to fully function.
- 32:17Speaker 3: And once I realized I'm better if I get that
- 32:20Speaker 3: amount of sleep, I became more disciplined about it. And
- 32:24Speaker 3: then make sure you tell everyone around you that I
- 32:28Speaker 3: have to go to sleep.
- 32:29Speaker 1: You know, you can be all jacked up and looking
- 32:33Speaker 1: crazy tomorrow, but I'm not going to be. Charity starts
- 32:35Speaker 1: at home. Bye, I'm out.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Well. When you get a support structure around you, that helps.
- 32:41Speaker 1: So by the way, a given a giver, exotic a
- 32:44Speaker 1: given or taker, Narati a taker or taker, psychotic. Hello,
- 32:49Speaker 1: watch watch your environment. You hang around nine bro people,
- 32:52Speaker 1: you'll be the tenth. You hang around nine unhealthy people,
- 32:54Speaker 1: you'll be the tenth. Like that's what she's saying. Watch
- 32:57Speaker 1: you hang around because you'll model what.
- 32:59Speaker 2: You see, which also you can encourage each other as well.
- 33:02Speaker 1: That's a nice way for her. So you can toxicity
- 33:05Speaker 1: out of your life and be positive. Each other's nice
- 33:08Speaker 1: to me.
- 33:08Speaker 3: But if you start something, then other people might enjoy
- 33:12Speaker 3: it as well, or find groups of Like I like
- 33:14Speaker 3: to roller skate, So if you want to, you know,
- 33:17Speaker 3: I thought, find the hobby that you like that's active
- 33:22Speaker 3: and do it together, you know, go to you know,
- 33:26Speaker 3: go for a walk. I know, like we live in Atlanta,
- 33:29Speaker 3: and I know we all love to walk the belt
- 33:31Speaker 3: line and we don't even know, we don't even realize
- 33:33Speaker 3: that how far we walked, because it's entertaining things on
- 33:37Speaker 3: the way, and you know people, and you know, it's
- 33:39Speaker 3: nice outside.
- 33:40Speaker 2: And but but if you don't, if you cannot do
- 33:43Speaker 2: all of that, just simply find.
- 33:46Speaker 3: Time for yourself in the morning, whether it's five to
- 33:50Speaker 3: ten minutes, breathing exercises, you can, you can. There's every
- 33:56Speaker 3: app on the phone these days helps you. It's really
- 34:00Speaker 3: you know, meditation.
- 34:03Speaker 4: You know.
- 34:03Speaker 3: I always tell people just start with one thing and
- 34:06Speaker 3: then once you get that one thing master, then start
- 34:09Speaker 3: with the next.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Thing and get crazy people out your life. You get
- 34:12Speaker 1: the toxicity. Okay, that's a different that's a.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Different toxicity matters. Maybe we'll come back and talk about exercise.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Your positivity. That's that's her. Look at that smile. That
- 34:24Speaker 1: can be not that can be exercise. She's just positive.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Try to stay positive. Start with affirmations.
- 34:41Speaker 3: When I'm in a bad mood or something I'm not
- 34:44Speaker 3: feeling my best, then I just go to like a
- 34:47Speaker 3: positive affirmation.
- 34:49Speaker 1: What is it you had? You had a CEO on
- 34:50Speaker 1: the Run program? Yes, what are some things you tell
- 34:54Speaker 1: there's some CEOs watching now or CEOs run? What would
- 34:58Speaker 1: you tell you.
- 35:02Speaker 2: You have team no sleep exactly? You know CEOs on
- 35:08Speaker 2: the Run.
- 35:08Speaker 1: You.
- 35:09Speaker 2: I love working with CEOs because CEOs are so disciplined.
- 35:13Speaker 3: And so all you have to do is tell you, guys,
- 35:16Speaker 3: like three things to do and then you guys do it. Hydration,
- 35:20Speaker 3: find a way to exercise, and do a food journal
- 35:23Speaker 3: of what you're eating, so you know, and then you
- 35:26Speaker 3: could pick out what you did good and what you
- 35:28Speaker 3: did bad and then switch it up.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it's so easy, like.
- 35:32Speaker 3: For you guys, like because the way you're follow you
- 35:37Speaker 3: guys don't want to think you're structured. You don't want
- 35:39Speaker 3: to have any more put on you, but you just
- 35:42Speaker 3: want to have somebody tell you the most positive thing
- 35:45Speaker 3: to do for your own body, and then.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Tell me it's not nasty. You tell me I may
- 35:51Speaker 1: live longer, and I'm not going to be increpit my
- 35:53Speaker 1: old age. You got my attention. And she she turned
- 35:57Speaker 1: me on this thynk called ag one. It's crazy. She
- 36:00Speaker 1: turned me on toto it. Then she doesn't drink it
- 36:01Speaker 1: because she doesn't like to taste of it, but she
- 36:03Speaker 1: does something else. But a g one is like seventy
- 36:06Speaker 1: five essential vitamins, nutrients, probiotics. I know what this stuff,
- 36:10Speaker 1: all this stuff was, but I know now, and it's
- 36:13Speaker 1: everything you need in one little packet. I poured into
- 36:16Speaker 1: some cold water. Don't use warm water or lukewarm. You
- 36:19Speaker 1: won't like it. But the cold water, it tastes great.
- 36:21Speaker 1: And I drink that every morning without fail, every morning.
- 36:25Speaker 2: And you'd make make because you were supposed to take
- 36:27Speaker 2: a vitamin.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't like vitamins.
- 36:30Speaker 2: So you've but you found what worked.
- 36:31Speaker 1: For you, right right? Yeah, fine, what works for you?
- 36:34Speaker 1: And do that? So I found that that that really
- 36:36Speaker 1: worked for me, and something else worked for Chatrus. She didn't,
- 36:39Speaker 1: you know, And then I now I pour put all
- 36:41Speaker 1: kind of little drops in the in the ag one
- 36:43Speaker 1: thing I'm now adding, I'm like the creaking cocktails. I'm
- 36:45Speaker 1: not gonna what's that last thing I'm doing? Uh sorisa
- 36:50Speaker 1: which does think gut health and something else. And so
- 36:59Speaker 1: I'm a hook. The five big killers of Black America,
- 37:03Speaker 1: heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabees, kidney disease, all linked to lifestyle.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Speak to that, yeah, I mean.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Most of it is built around, you know, disease of
- 37:19Speaker 3: the body.
- 37:22Speaker 1: And that's the word diseases. Diseasey, that's a word. Say
- 37:29Speaker 1: that again, disease. A lot of diseases, dis ease, that's
- 37:34Speaker 1: a word.
- 37:36Speaker 2: So a lot of it begins.
- 37:39Speaker 1: That's why you keep a lot of emotional toxicity out
- 37:41Speaker 1: out of your environment because it's diase.
- 37:44Speaker 2: This ease. Your body is not at ease, you know.
- 37:48Speaker 3: And and it starts around visceral fat and inflammation. As
- 37:52Speaker 3: we discussed what shows up in viceral f and that's
- 37:56Speaker 3: how and you know, a lot of it is around obesity.
- 38:01Speaker 3: We have an obesity epidemic here in America. And if
- 38:06Speaker 3: we if you can, you know, get a hold of
- 38:10Speaker 3: your obesity level, usually that helps not have disease. And
- 38:16Speaker 3: that's very controversial statement I'm saying right now, so controversial
- 38:21Speaker 3: real talk.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Look, you're people know that, people know that you've come
- 38:26Speaker 1: to my podcast is about and by the way, thanks
- 38:28Speaker 1: for helping this podcast be top one hundred in business
- 38:30Speaker 1: in the country and top.
- 38:31Speaker 2: But disease cannot live on in an alkaline system. And so.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Yeah, you cut me off when I was talking hello,
- 38:43Speaker 1: You may forget what the heck I was saying. I
- 38:45Speaker 1: was saying thank you, and I was actually making a point.
- 38:48Speaker 1: H No, people know that this is straight talk, and
- 38:50Speaker 1: they know that I don't use twenty words or two
- 38:53Speaker 1: will do before we get back to the alkaline system.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Just to sort of underscore what she's saying, how important
- 39:01Speaker 1: you know self care is and being your own wellness
- 39:06Speaker 1: center in your life A lot of so. So a
- 39:10Speaker 1: thirty economy give or take, is healthcare. A third, give
- 39:14Speaker 1: or take, about seventy percent of that is spending the
- 39:16Speaker 1: last quartile of your life. So the doctor, the medical
- 39:21Speaker 1: profession is throwing all this stuff at you when your
- 39:24Speaker 1: body's failing to try to keep you alive because you
- 39:26Speaker 1: want to stay alive. It happened to my mother, it
- 39:29Speaker 1: happened to my daddy, had my dad hooked up to
- 39:31Speaker 1: a million dollars worth of machines when he was dying.
- 39:34Speaker 1: It was clear either as the doctor said, what do
- 39:36Speaker 1: you want to do? John, I'm like, what are you asking?
- 39:38Speaker 2: Me?
- 39:39Speaker 1: Like, well, you're the you know, the one that's in
- 39:40Speaker 1: charged here and either your you know. What became clear
- 39:43Speaker 1: to me was I said the doctor, you're playing God.
- 39:46Speaker 1: He says, no, I'm not playing God. You are, it's
- 39:48Speaker 1: not because you got to decide. You know, what we
- 39:51Speaker 1: do is that your dad's we're keeping your dad's body
- 39:54Speaker 1: alive with a machine. And it was it was Cedar
- 39:57Speaker 1: sign of medical center here in La actually, and I
- 40:00Speaker 1: remember it hit me either my dad's body is given up.
- 40:03Speaker 1: He's given up, or God's called him. But but this
- 40:06Speaker 1: physical party is over, and so we had to make
- 40:09Speaker 1: peace with that. But I don't know how long you
- 40:10Speaker 1: go and live, but I know, I dang sure know
- 40:12Speaker 1: you're gonna die. It's not a mystery. So you've got
- 40:14Speaker 1: to prepare lift And I've been telling my dad to
- 40:16Speaker 1: do certain things and he ignored me as far as
- 40:20Speaker 1: far as his wellness is concerned. My mother was a
- 40:21Speaker 1: little better, She was a lot better, But I wish
- 40:24Speaker 1: you would have done more stuff for herself, not just
- 40:26Speaker 1: for her children. As far as her wellness is concerned,
- 40:29Speaker 1: she ate well, but she didn't exercise as much as
- 40:33Speaker 1: I thought she should have. I think she could have
- 40:35Speaker 1: extended her wellness. But once you start falling and things
- 40:39Speaker 1: start breaking, that can become a thing.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Right and your mindset.
- 40:45Speaker 3: Remember they always say, you know your mind your body.
- 40:50Speaker 2: Here's your mind your body. Here's what your.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Mind tells it, yes and yes, and it's what you
- 40:57Speaker 1: And when we say it's what you don't know that
- 40:59Speaker 1: you don't know, you told me this. That applies to
- 41:02Speaker 1: the medical profession as well. So I realized when I
- 41:06Speaker 1: was on one of my Mali trips, I was having
- 41:08Speaker 1: problems with my back. It was so bad. This is
- 41:11Speaker 1: going back twenty years now. My back thing was so bad.
- 41:13Speaker 1: I had to lay down on the on the ground
- 41:15Speaker 1: to get to a phone call. I'm like, okay, I'm
- 41:18Speaker 1: thirty years old and I'm done, Like I'm going to
- 41:21Speaker 1: have I'm, you know, be immobilized. I went to Maui
- 41:25Speaker 1: and went to a chiropractor and he showed me that
- 41:27Speaker 1: my one leg was shorter than the other. You heard
- 41:28Speaker 1: this thing, said all one legs shorter than the other.
- 41:30Speaker 1: This is where you are. No, they gave me an
- 41:33Speaker 1: adjustment and it equalized my legs. I was out of alignment.
- 41:38Speaker 1: But then it went back. And so anyway, before this,
- 41:41Speaker 1: they're like, oh, you need to get a lift in
- 41:44Speaker 1: your shoe. So I paid back. Then it was a
- 41:47Speaker 1: thousand dollars to get a custom lift made for my shoe.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Now you can go get over forty bucks from you
- 41:52Speaker 1: know whatever store, doctor shows whatever. So anyway, I did that,
- 41:55Speaker 1: but then that worked for six months. Then the pain
- 41:57Speaker 1: came back. I'm like, okay, wait, I went back to
- 41:59Speaker 1: so you tell me I got it shorter than short, Like, okay,
- 42:02Speaker 1: this is a this is some kind of a racket.
- 42:05Speaker 1: So I went and found a front roller, a rumble roller,
- 42:09Speaker 1: and I started rolling that on the muscles, not my back,
- 42:12Speaker 1: but my glute muscles, my ssiatic around, my ssiatic nerve
- 42:17Speaker 1: and all this stuff, and I found the pain went
- 42:19Speaker 1: away over time. It was painful to get down in
- 42:22Speaker 1: deep into that, but the pain in my back went away.
- 42:25Speaker 1: I found it was something called Fasha tissue. So so
- 42:28Speaker 1: this doctor was trying to get Ambassada to get a
- 42:30Speaker 1: knee surgery and black doctor, good guy, and he was like,
- 42:35Speaker 1: you should tell him Bastian and let me do knee
- 42:37Speaker 1: surgery on him. I said, well, you know, I talked
- 42:39Speaker 1: about it. He doesn't really really interested in that, but whatever.
- 42:43Speaker 1: But then he started complaining about his back and I said, well,
- 42:46Speaker 1: this is a medical doctor, this is a surgeon shapefe.
- 42:48Speaker 1: I said, well, maybe it's the fasher tissue and shatrau.
- 42:52Speaker 1: He said, what's that? So I came home and I
- 42:55Speaker 1: mentioned that the shapra and we're like, well, yeah, these
- 42:58Speaker 1: doctors are not trained in a lie. They're trained on cadavers,
- 43:02Speaker 1: on dead tissue. Then I trained on live tissues, and
- 43:05Speaker 1: I trained. This is why I respect her so much.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Listen to me now, this is that this is a
- 43:11Speaker 1: forty minute forty three. If you didn't listen to anything ted, everybody,
- 43:14Speaker 1: go to minute forty three. The medical doctors are trained
- 43:18Speaker 1: on dead tissue. I respected wellness when I learned that
- 43:23Speaker 1: that that the thing that gave me relief was the
- 43:25Speaker 1: live tissue being relieved, and that's that fosteril tissue that
- 43:29Speaker 1: lays next to the bone. It's so deep your messuse
- 43:32Speaker 1: can't get down into that. You need to get down there.
- 43:35Speaker 1: In a non invasive way, and that this phone roller
- 43:38Speaker 1: did it for me and my life, which transformed. My
- 43:42Speaker 1: back pain went away, and for a long time time
- 43:45Speaker 1: I traveled with a NAB phone roller with me, and
- 43:48Speaker 1: now I don't have any back pain at all. I
- 43:50Speaker 1: actually feel better now that I did when I was
- 43:51Speaker 1: twenty five. But a lot of this is this wellness stuff,
- 43:54Speaker 1: that these good habits that Shape was talking about. But
- 43:57Speaker 1: even medical doctors, first of all, they're in se devised.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Again nothing, I'm not saying this is a racket or anything.
- 44:04Speaker 1: I'm saying they were trained to cut. A surgeon's trained.
- 44:08Speaker 2: They're very trained and very good in their specialty.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, it was a nicer way of saying what
- 44:15Speaker 1: I said. I mean, her dad's a noted legendary even pharmacist.
- 44:21Speaker 1: I mean, so you know it's natural for everything to
- 44:23Speaker 1: be a pill, because what do black people want to
- 44:26Speaker 1: do or not just anybody I need, I'm in pain,
- 44:28Speaker 1: make this go away if all you do is appeal
- 44:31Speaker 1: the pain of boy temporarily, but you've got a salt
- 44:33Speaker 1: what was underneath that? Otherwise you get addicted maybe to
- 44:36Speaker 1: the pill, or the pills won't be enough or whatever,
- 44:39Speaker 1: or the alcohol whatever, that they are a pain reliever.
- 44:42Speaker 1: So her dad fishes now and has found and plays golf,
- 44:47Speaker 1: and that you know, has made his energy come up
- 44:52Speaker 1: in his he's you know, he feels better about himself.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Has nothing to do with a medical situation per se.
- 44:59Speaker 1: But it all and nature in.
- 45:01Speaker 2: Nature, right, it's medicinal.
- 45:04Speaker 1: So do you agree with what do you disagree with
- 45:06Speaker 1: what I said about the fact that all doctors what
- 45:09Speaker 1: we doctors are trained, as you said, they have a specialty.
- 45:12Speaker 1: If you're if you're a surgeon, you're trained to cut.
- 45:15Speaker 1: And so it's not their fault that that's what they're
- 45:18Speaker 1: trained to do. But they can't get another Porsche or
- 45:20Speaker 1: another house. They're not they're not doing surgery. So they
- 45:23Speaker 1: so there if you want the pain to go away,
- 45:25Speaker 1: they're gonna cut. But that doesn't mean that that's the
- 45:26Speaker 1: only solution to your problem.
- 45:29Speaker 2: There's definitely integrative care.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Can you explain what integrative care?
- 45:33Speaker 3: If you you know, if you have to take medication,
- 45:37Speaker 3: that's the first solution. And we're happy that medicine does.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Exist, like blood pressure, yes, like blood.
- 45:44Speaker 3: Pressure medicine and then you integrate it, so you integrate
- 45:47Speaker 3: it with a healthier lifestyle, and you work, and you
- 45:50Speaker 3: work into a space where hopefully maybe you can get
- 45:54Speaker 3: off the medication, and if you can't, then you won't
- 45:56Speaker 3: have to add another pill on top of it.
- 45:59Speaker 2: It keep you steady.
- 46:01Speaker 3: So that's really the goal of like you know, bioindividuality
- 46:05Speaker 3: and integrative care, just finding your own pace of what's
- 46:08Speaker 3: going to make your body work and function at its
- 46:12Speaker 3: best capacity. So if you have to take the high
- 46:14Speaker 3: blood pressure pill because your body just you haven't figured
- 46:18Speaker 3: out a way to totally come off the medication.
- 46:21Speaker 2: But a lot of.
- 46:22Speaker 3: Times, you know, if you start one medicine and you
- 46:26Speaker 3: continue it, you usually the second one gets added or
- 46:29Speaker 3: the third one gets added.
- 46:30Speaker 2: That's really what you want to prevent.
- 46:32Speaker 3: And altogether being able to work your way all the
- 46:35Speaker 3: way off of it would be great.
- 46:37Speaker 2: But if that doesn't happen, you just don't.
- 46:39Speaker 3: Want to progress any further because it could lead to
- 46:42Speaker 3: kidney failure or other things, other problems. So that's really
- 46:47Speaker 3: what integrative care is about. I'm for both sides because
- 46:51Speaker 3: I know that if I don't feel good, I definitely
- 46:53Speaker 3: want the doctor who has the ultimate knowledge of what
- 46:58Speaker 3: is happening in your body. And then you have the
- 47:00Speaker 3: other side of holistic care, which is why did what
- 47:05Speaker 3: caused it? And usually it took years for something to
- 47:10Speaker 3: cause it, and so whatever however along whatever you were
- 47:14Speaker 3: doing that took that added to the cause. It's going
- 47:19Speaker 3: to take some time probably to work its way back out.
- 47:21Speaker 3: So you have to give yourself time to let your system.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Work it back out and be consistent and be consistent.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Yeah, are there on the on the National Minority Health
- 47:32Speaker 1: uh National Minority Health Association website? Are there tips and tricks? There?
- 47:39Speaker 1: Are there tips for people they go to the website?
- 47:42Speaker 1: Are their tools? Are really asking? Is it is a
- 47:45Speaker 1: website a resourceing people, a starting point for health and lowness?
- 47:49Speaker 3: There's three There's three things that we mainly focus on
- 47:53Speaker 3: uh loupis diabetes and cares, aching are and healthy living
- 48:03Speaker 3: for all. So there's those are our four components of
- 48:09Speaker 3: what we really are focused on right now. Of course
- 48:11Speaker 3: we were focused on COVID vaccinations, but that doesn't give
- 48:15Speaker 3: healthy tips. Where you'll find the healthy tips are through
- 48:18Speaker 3: the Diabetic Diabetic Portal, the kit and then you'll get
- 48:24Speaker 3: some information for caregiving is very big and what we
- 48:28Speaker 3: serve because we have to help caregivers take care of
- 48:32Speaker 3: themselves while they're taking care of others, and also have
- 48:35Speaker 3: resources on where to go to find appropriate care resources.
- 48:42Speaker 1: What's his news campaign that you started living healthy? Living?
- 48:46Speaker 2: Health is for everybody?
- 48:47Speaker 1: What's that? In short?
- 48:49Speaker 2: Health is for everybody?
- 48:54Speaker 1: You dummy? You understand? She's like, that was plain English?
- 49:02Speaker 1: All right? So go to her website. By the way,
- 49:04Speaker 1: she is a health and wellness advisor. No, no, you
- 49:07Speaker 1: don't get it. No, no, this is me. You don't
- 49:09Speaker 1: get to come back.
- 49:10Speaker 2: No, that's over.
- 49:11Speaker 1: No, so no, go to the website. Check that out.
- 49:14Speaker 1: She also is a health and wellness advisor for Operation Hope,
- 49:17Speaker 1: so you'll if you're in, if you like what you
- 49:19Speaker 1: heard today, you want to hear more from her, let
- 49:22Speaker 1: me know or let her know in the comments wherever
- 49:25Speaker 1: we're checking this out, and you know, send a note.
- 49:29Speaker 1: She also has her own website, which is Wellness.
- 49:31Speaker 3: Three sixty three.
- 49:33Speaker 1: Sixty Wellness Collective, and send her a note. And if
- 49:36Speaker 1: you will want to hear more from her, you want
- 49:39Speaker 1: somebody to dive down it's something specific. I'm sure she'd
- 49:42Speaker 1: be happy to do a video something specific about it.
- 49:45Speaker 1: As you can tell, she's much kinder nicer and more
- 49:47Speaker 1: patient than me. So I think about some takeaways, like
- 50:02Speaker 1: you can give to people for that for a weekly
- 50:05Speaker 1: family meeting they're going to have on health and wellness,
- 50:08Speaker 1: some of your you know, some some some some some
- 50:11Speaker 1: quick text for a CEO who's on the run. What
- 50:14Speaker 1: happens if you you're a single mother, like a lot
- 50:17Speaker 1: of mothers are. They're raising kids, they got a career,
- 50:20Speaker 1: and they're not feeling their best self. What are some
- 50:23Speaker 1: things suggestions you have for them? And give me life
- 50:26Speaker 1: hacks like cheat sheets, some things that you do that
- 50:30Speaker 1: that are quick things that you can give to people
- 50:33Speaker 1: as a starting point. For instance, I never asked you this,
- 50:36Speaker 1: but like, how does your skin so great? Is it
- 50:38Speaker 1: just you're drinking water? What is there something you do
- 50:41Speaker 1: for your skin? Is something to do for your hair?
- 50:43Speaker 1: Is it something you do to keep the weight off?
- 50:45Speaker 1: I mean, is there anything there's something that triggers weight? Hello,
- 50:51Speaker 1: I don't care any of the above is helpful to
- 50:55Speaker 1: the audience. Well ignore, ignore those and go to something else.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Water is everything. I mean, you would be shocked at dehydration.
- 51:05Speaker 3: And I know I always harp on it, and anyone
- 51:08Speaker 3: who knows me knows I'm always harping on are you dehydrated?
- 51:12Speaker 3: Hydration is everything. Most of us are dehydrated. And so
- 51:17Speaker 3: my biggest, biggest thing is make sure you drink water.
- 51:21Speaker 3: And that's the east, and that's the most.
- 51:23Speaker 1: It's cheapest too, The cheapest, easiest is most sustainable. And
- 51:27Speaker 1: then nature is nature is free.
- 51:30Speaker 2: And go outside get some fresh air. I know that
- 51:36Speaker 2: even if it's for.
- 51:36Speaker 3: Five minutes, five to ten minutes, just go outside and
- 51:40Speaker 3: get some air.
- 51:42Speaker 2: Do some deep breathing.
- 51:43Speaker 3: You know, wouldn't even you'd be surprised at if you
- 51:47Speaker 3: just take a deep breath, go outside, get some air,
- 51:51Speaker 3: get some sunshine for five minutes. You'll feel so much better.
- 51:55Speaker 3: If say you're under pressure or something's going on, just.
- 51:59Speaker 1: Go out side for five walk around the walk around
- 52:01Speaker 1: the house, around.
- 52:02Speaker 2: The long for a minute. Yeah, and just breathe.
- 52:05Speaker 3: You would be shocked at at how that calms the
- 52:09Speaker 3: nervous system down. Those are my hacks. Those are my
- 52:11Speaker 3: go to. Like every morning, I start off with, you know,
- 52:16Speaker 3: my prayer and then meditation, yes, prayers.
- 52:21Speaker 2: You know whatever.
- 52:22Speaker 3: Report Yeah, so that's how I start my mornings.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Those are that's definitely a hack.
- 52:29Speaker 1: Hip hop music so by the way incredible career. Uh
- 52:34Speaker 1: did did the album covers when back when she was
- 52:37Speaker 1: in the fashion business and the music business did album covers.
- 52:40Speaker 1: Were a bunch of big stars and designed the Olympic
- 52:46Speaker 1: uniforms for the Andrew Young Olympics in Atlanta in the
- 52:50Speaker 1: nineteen ninety six Olympics, but the Olympic NBA team designed
- 52:56Speaker 1: the uniforms for them. I had a fashion house in
- 52:59Speaker 1: New York in LA just a lot of incredible stories
- 53:03Speaker 1: that she has. So one of these times you'll we'll
- 53:06Speaker 1: get the chance to open her up. She's a little
- 53:08Speaker 1: bit more shy than me, but you'll open her up
- 53:10Speaker 1: a lot in there rather than the beautiful smiley face. Okay,
- 53:14Speaker 1: so you give them a couple of life hacks. By
- 53:16Speaker 1: the way, last week I was frustrated about something. I
- 53:18Speaker 1: had to go outside and walk around the block, I
- 53:20Speaker 1: around the house. It helped me just being outside. Like
- 53:24Speaker 1: you know, folks will frustrate the heck out of you.
- 53:26Speaker 1: Sometimes you need to breathe it through right because you
- 53:29Speaker 1: don't left it out. You don't let it out, then
- 53:31Speaker 1: it's it's it's becoming toxic, toxic inside of you.
- 53:34Speaker 2: Put these down.
- 53:35Speaker 1: Okay, there, you go put that down, put this down.
- 53:37Speaker 1: We were in Singapore. Nobody, nobody in the phone, nobody,
- 53:41Speaker 1: and they were not on the phone. They were not
- 53:42Speaker 1: on the phone, they were not on a call. It
- 53:45Speaker 1: was amazing. In all of Singapore, like nobody was on
- 53:47Speaker 1: their phone. It was unbelievable. Nobody was texting social media,
- 53:50Speaker 1: they were talking to each other. They were having really
- 53:53Speaker 1: really hard to.
- 53:53Speaker 2: Do because we're so attached to this and it does everything.
- 53:56Speaker 2: I love. I love my phone. I love my phone.
- 53:58Speaker 1: But she loves she had her phone and.
- 54:02Speaker 2: Take it back and laugh. Laughter, We have a lot
- 54:10Speaker 2: of laugh. You can't take anything, you can't take this
- 54:15Speaker 2: so serious.
- 54:16Speaker 3: But if you take some time, just turn your phone off,
- 54:21Speaker 3: you know, for a half hour, and just be present
- 54:24Speaker 3: with yourself.
- 54:25Speaker 1: Look, I'm looking at her her screenshot and even this
- 54:28Speaker 1: is peaceful. Look at this. She's that's her. That's her,
- 54:33Speaker 1: that's her in the middle.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Of the ocean, a peaceful screenshot on your phone.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Put a piece with something you think about your food,
- 54:42Speaker 1: like any any food hacks, shortcuts or things you do,
- 54:46Speaker 1: things you do and things you avoid. Sugar avohite, sugar,
- 54:51Speaker 1: white sugar. I eat brown sugar. I use brown sugar,
- 54:55Speaker 1: but I can't find this cream. I do well. If
- 54:58Speaker 1: you're gonna have sugar, maple sugar, brown sugar, sugar and
- 55:02Speaker 1: the raw I think are better alternative. What else?
- 55:06Speaker 2: Watch the sugar? Watch your processed food?
- 55:10Speaker 1: Yes, what do you want to explain with process food?
- 55:15Speaker 3: Like anything fried, fried food, or like deli meats and
- 55:20Speaker 3: things like that.
- 55:21Speaker 2: Be careful of canned.
- 55:23Speaker 1: Food or they process? I think so a lot of them,
- 55:27Speaker 1: not all of them, but a lot of them are.
- 55:29Speaker 1: If something's been on the shelf, are I'm gonna let's
- 55:33Speaker 1: say something she may disagree with if somebody's been Like
- 55:35Speaker 1: in Europe, when you go to Europe, you don't see
- 55:37Speaker 1: a lot of obest people. They make the bread every day,
- 55:40Speaker 1: they make the cheese every day. You eat it. They
- 55:43Speaker 1: make it, you eat it. In Africa, frankly, the same thing.
- 55:46Speaker 1: A lot of places. You don't see a lot of
- 55:48Speaker 1: obest people. The food here is processed. They sit on
- 55:51Speaker 1: the it sits on the shelf, It has an expiration date.
- 55:54Speaker 1: That is that that's the definition of process. Process was
- 55:59Speaker 1: not not just fried food. That's that's an easy example
- 56:04Speaker 1: of it. You I mean, I'm trying to think, I
- 56:08Speaker 1: mean all the I mean most of what we most
- 56:11Speaker 1: of we get in the groceries.
- 56:13Speaker 3: How about a hack don't eat fried food.
- 56:16Speaker 1: You see, she's really on this fried food that is
- 56:20Speaker 1: you know, of course she's right, right, And I don't
- 56:23Speaker 1: eat a ton of fried food. I used to, I
- 56:26Speaker 1: used to kill.
- 56:28Speaker 2: Depending on your system, yeah.
- 56:30Speaker 1: Moderate because she loves a glass of wine and yes,
- 56:35Speaker 1: lowers your blood blood, blood blood pressure.
- 56:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it's good for your blood. So they say, I don't.
- 56:41Speaker 1: Know it works for her.
- 56:43Speaker 3: I'm nutritionist. I'm not a I'm not a doctor or
- 56:46Speaker 3: a scientist. So find what works for you.
- 56:50Speaker 1: So a note for me to black men, the danger
- 56:52Speaker 1: of emotional shut down in grind culture. That's going to
- 56:56Speaker 1: stretch you out and take you out. Like I just
- 56:58Speaker 1: you know, it's okay. You don't like me, Yeah, I
- 57:01Speaker 1: like me right, and not one else, not one out
- 57:03Speaker 1: of my self esteem depends on your acceptance of me.
- 57:05Speaker 1: And that's a Quincy Jones quote. Like I just don't
- 57:08Speaker 1: let stuff get to me. I walk through life consciously
- 57:10Speaker 1: oblivious and most things around me because it just doesn't matter.
- 57:13Speaker 1: And like I just shrugged my shoulders. You know, people
- 57:16Speaker 1: don't you know, to argue with the fool cruiser are
- 57:18Speaker 1: too Just let the stuff all rock walk, let the
- 57:22Speaker 1: stuff you know, just roll down your back and walk
- 57:26Speaker 1: and walk away from a fight, walk away from drama.
- 57:29Speaker 1: Don't sit there and argue with a crazy person. Get
- 57:31Speaker 1: your blood pressure up for what she said. A lot
- 57:34Speaker 1: of disease is disase, right, Just let the drama go.
- 57:41Speaker 1: So you know when I urge couples and families to
- 57:44Speaker 1: get real about health and have family needs about this.
- 57:47Speaker 1: You don't need a six pack. You need six hours
- 57:50Speaker 1: of sleep. I try to get six hours of sleep
- 57:52Speaker 1: a night. That's my magic number. Her number is a
- 57:55Speaker 1: little bit longer than six hours. But she's got beauty
- 57:57Speaker 1: to be concerned with. I don't go to the doctor
- 58:00Speaker 1: like you go to the barber on a regular basis.
- 58:03Speaker 1: If you love your family, stay alive for them right
- 58:07Speaker 1: and keep each.
- 58:08Speaker 2: Other healthy, work together to keep each other healthy.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Okay, Like what like what you like? Would like be
- 58:14Speaker 1: accountability partner like you were with me? Yeah, and do
- 58:18Speaker 1: it lovingly, I mean so that people listen to you.
- 58:20Speaker 1: It's like she she knew I'm a double She calls
- 58:23Speaker 1: me a double alpha, which is really bad. That's like
- 58:26Speaker 1: an intense on top of the tents on top of intense,
- 58:28Speaker 1: and she knew that like coming at me, he had
- 58:30Speaker 1: come at me a certain way, or I'm like, don't
- 58:31Speaker 1: tell me what to do, right, and she she disarms
- 58:36Speaker 1: me most of the time, and that gets me to
- 58:38Speaker 1: do what she suggests and makes it and ultimately she
- 58:43Speaker 1: has convinced me to make it my own decision, as
- 58:46Speaker 1: you're hearing me talk about it now. So thank you
- 58:49Speaker 1: for keeping me alive.
- 58:52Speaker 3: Anytime I'm keeping yourself.
- 58:57Speaker 1: You did it. And thanks for being good. We do
- 59:01Speaker 1: we do good, we're better. We're two plus two here.
- 59:03Speaker 1: He was definitely equals tense. We hold each other accountable
- 59:06Speaker 1: one hundred percent. My worst day was her, I tell her,
- 59:09Speaker 1: is better than my best day with anybody else. She's
- 59:12Speaker 1: an extraordinary human being. And just what you see is
- 59:16Speaker 1: what you're good you get. It's just full of full
- 59:19Speaker 1: of love and authenticity, which gets you through. When somebody
- 59:22Speaker 1: is real and they have no agenda and they're not
- 59:26Speaker 1: trying to play you, they're not trying to extract from you,
- 59:29Speaker 1: it allows you to relax and forget, and you can
- 59:32Speaker 1: forgive almost anything with somebody's intention is pure. My brother
- 59:37Speaker 1: Rob McGrew would say If you're madly in love, you're
- 59:39Speaker 1: ready to cement to the it, the BS will entertain you.
- 59:42Speaker 1: If you're not madly in love or you're not ready
- 59:44Speaker 1: to cement to the it, the BS will drive you crazy.
- 59:47Speaker 1: It's the same BS. It depends how you look at it.
- 59:50Speaker 1: Is the glass half full or is the half empty?
- 59:51Speaker 1: Depends who was looking at the glass, which is why
- 59:54Speaker 1: Shache was talking about it. Disease is often dis ease.
- 59:59Speaker 1: Your energy. Watch your energy, Watch who's around you, watch
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: your toxicity. Field health is wealth. I mean it doesn't
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: do you any good and make all this money and
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: then you drop dead from a heart attack or hypertension
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: or diabetes or whatever it is because you just you
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: did something you didn't do, something preventable, and now you
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: you can't even enjoy it. That that say that right
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: you think you want to say and wrap up? I mean,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: what what's your? What's your? Your? Your? Drop the mic
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: on the way out the door. Advice for people just try.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: To try to take care of yourself.
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: That's that's we always end up putting ourselves at the
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: last on the list, And try to be mindful that
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: it's okay to put yourself first when it comes to
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: your health so that you're being able to take care
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: of everything else that you have.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: Going on.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: That part. This has been money and Wealth on the
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: Black Effect Network. This is John Holbryant, and this is
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: my weekly pullpit of finance. And this was a special edition.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: I only bring special guests on when they're special and
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: when they bring something that's truly transformational to the conversation.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: And I think you will agree this was and has
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: been transformational. We have dealt directly with a lot of
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: taboo topics, and we've been straight about our own insecurities
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: and our own failings and our own fears right there.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: You know, if you're not afraid when a tiger's coming
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: at you at a million miles an hour, then something's
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: wrong with you. Uh So it has a legitimate reason
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: to be absolutely afraid. By the way, this has nothing
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: to doing nothing. It's just funny. You know why black
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: people are not in scary movie in horror movies because
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: we're not convincing. The Amniville horror it was. It was
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: an amiville horror. It was was the movie movie that
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: is it amivill horror? Or the House about the House
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: that was hunted the house that can't out see it.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: There was a black one's the movie. It has been
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: over the first sale sign the front lawn, the first
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: that's why we get we get killed off in the
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: first scene in the horror movies. And yeah, because we're
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: just not convincing. You mess with a black perpy, but like,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: we got enough problems just trying to live and you know,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: we drop us might drop up black night, drop a
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: wallet in front of police officer, can kick it all
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: the way home. Like we got enough problem so so
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: you know, we ain't trying to be to be scared
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: out of my wits voluntarily and participate. If the house
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: is talking, we're just selling the house, right, We're not
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: going up. We'll get what's that noise? Right? So that
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: has nothing to do with health and wealth it is.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: I thought it was funny Black people are really not
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: convincing in horror movies, which are not generally speaking, while
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: we're not in it, unless it's a completely black horror movie,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: which a couple of them would just come out and
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: they almost parody comedies. And then there's actually a couple
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: of that actually I think did work. But this is
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: really just trying to get you to laugh, like, take
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: life seriously, don't take yourself too seriously. Like just don't
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: be full of pressure if that's what you want to,
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: you know, get yourself focused on a goal, but don't
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: stress yourself out. There is no perfect and you will
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: stress yourself out trying to be that way. It's just
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: the best you can do, and you can do a lot,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: as you heard from Shatrap. If your brother and you
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: think you don't have enough time, think about how busy
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: my life is every morning? Is it true when I
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: get out in the morning, I do push ups sometimes
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: her frustrations, We gotta go right, push ups, sit ups, squats, breathing,
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: stretching and whatever it is can wait. It can wait
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: ten minutes, and it does. But don't let your health
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: wait because it may be too late. This is John O'Brien.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: This is Shake Trae Bryant. This is the ego and
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: the butterfly, the heart and the head, even though she's
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: all had too in the since she's really smart. This
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: is you know, somebody may turn it to create a house,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: but somebody has got turned into a home. So you
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: need the whole picture. Uh, And let somebody love you.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: Let your family love. You don't just be don't just
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: be a giver. Try to get good at receiving love too.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: I'm working on it myself. Vulnerability is not it's not
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: a weakness, it's a it's a strip. But most people
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: are not tough enough to be soft. That was my book,
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: Love Leadership and Yeah gues Financial Literacy for a I'll
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: tell your friends to subscribe to this podcast and ask
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Shaitra some wellness questions so she can answer it uh
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: in an upcoming episode, do you want to do this again,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: by the way, or have you had enough of me
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: and just want to hear her right? I'm out? Piece
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: of Light, Money and Wealth with John O'Brien is a
