- 3:36in my acting, so I thank her and I thank you for staying connected
- 3:39with us. So tonight we're talking about something that's I think should hit home
- 3:45to a lot of people who are entrepreneurs. Is the process of setting up
- 3:50a business known as entrepreneurship. Does being an entrepreneur play a key role in
- 3:55any economy? What skills in the new initiatives do you use to need a
- 4:01need that are necessary to be the next Tyler Perry TV and movie mogul,
- 4:06the next Jeff Bezos, the founder, executive chairman, and former president and
- 4:12CEO of Amazon. How about Mark Zuckerberg, co founder of social media service
- 4:17Facebook or Rihanna Fendi. We all know it as Rihanna or either some people
- 4:23call it Rihanna singer, businesswomen and actress. Well, my guests Charise Johnson
- 4:28Moore, owner and CEO of Charis N. Johnson Moore LLC, is here
- 4:32to discuss how she helps entrepreneurs gain exposure through advertising, broadcasting, publishing and
- 4:40marketing for personal growth around prosperity. Welcome Charie Johnson Moore to Basic Black after
- 4:46Dark. Now, I know she was having some kind of technical difficulties,
- 4:50so I hope that she can join this real soon. But I'm an entrepreneur
- 4:55and I'm gonna talk about some of the things like what inspired me to delvin
- 5:00to the world of entrepreneurs and how has it transformed my personal journey. Well,
- 5:05growth don't look good on me, and I don't think it looks good
- 5:08on anybody. So I decided to keep my nine to five job but open
- 5:14up some other businesses. For some of you, you may not know that
- 5:17I'm an author, So I do write children's books and other books. I
- 5:23co authored several other books. I also make candles. So I just opened
- 5:29up a shop with my daughter. We call it Basic Black and we're opening
- 5:33up part two to that store, and that's going to be our candle making
- 5:40shop, so it's going to be a studio. So that's going to be
- 5:42opening up soon, and we're really excited about that. I do some other
- 5:46little things, but I don't want to talk about them now, not until
- 5:48I get them fully going to be able to introduce it to everybody. So
- 5:54some people ask why do some people get ahead and others stagnate when starting a
- 5:59business. I think some people are afraid. I think they're afraid of failure.
- 6:06And that could be with anything. It could be with going to school,
- 6:10it could be with driving, with taking tests. Some people are afraid
- 6:14of failure. They do stagnant. Everybody talks about starting a business. Everyone
- 6:19talks about becoming successful. Everyone talks about being rich and famous. But there
- 6:28are steps to that and a lot of it is doing your homework. I
- 6:31think that to start off, you need to know what type of business you
- 6:36want to start, what type of people that you want to reach. In
- 6:41order to have a successful business, you have to make sure that you get
- 6:45a license for your business. So go through your state, go through your
- 6:48circuit court, make sure you put in the correct documents, make sure you
- 6:53check your name, make sure that somebody else don't have that name, Make
- 6:59sure that you have an attorney, make sure you have insurance, make sure.
- 7:03Yeah, the crew saying most of us are afraid of success because we
- 7:08have gotten comfortable to failing. Well, you know what, that word is
- 7:12not even going to be continued in my vocabulary because I don't like the word
- 7:16failure. I just say that I just have to try another way, or
- 7:20there's another way of doing things. So I want you to say the same
- 7:25thing. I did not fail. There's just another way of doing things,
- 7:29because there is. It's always another way of doing things. Do you think
- 7:32that Oprah Winfrey stopped when she got started and she was afraid that her talk
- 7:36show wasn't going to be successful. Look at what happened. It was very
- 7:41successful. What keeps us from earning more money? It could be a lot
- 7:49of things. It could be the startup. It could be that some people
- 7:55may not be interested in what we're doing or what products we have. Well,
- 8:00maybe we didn't think our products through throughout everything that we thought that we
- 8:03were going to do. Now, one of the things I did say that
- 8:07I was going to hold back and I didn't mention to you was I do
- 8:11have a haircare product and it's been in my family for generations and we've been
- 8:16using it, using and using it, and we use it in the family.
- 8:20I did sell it to some people and it did okay, but I
- 8:26pulled it back because I wanted to add something different to it. So that
- 8:31one thing that kept me from earning money from it because it didn't go out
- 8:35the way that I really wanted it to. So I think that I just
- 8:37pushed it out a little too fast and I should have waited. So that
- 8:41was me making that mistake. I'm not going to say the F word meaning
- 8:45failure. Well I said it, but that was me making that mistake,
- 8:50and I should have waited, and I should have looked into that product a
- 8:54little bit more, look with my competition to see what was out there,
- 8:56to see who was out there and what was going on. And what I
- 9:01did was I do it for natural hair and mostly that's what you're going to
- 9:05see on the market, natural hair products, natural hair care products. Well,
- 9:09you have certain companies that are masters at it, and that's where I
- 9:13want to be someday. So I had to pull it back, and I
- 9:16had to start from the beginning. And there's nothing wrong with starting from the
- 9:18beginning, but if you can't earn money when you just stop altogether. So
- 9:24I just pulled it back and I'm just going through it little by little so
- 9:28I can see what I need to improve in and that sometimes that happens when
- 9:33you have to do that. One of the things that I've heard a lot
- 9:35about, and I think we've all heard about a thermistat. How a thermist
- 9:39that can go up and down, up and down. But there's a financial
- 9:43thermista, and it does impact our potential as an entrepreneur because money, it
- 9:50floats up, it floats down. Days a good days, some days are
- 9:54bad days. Just like being an author. Sometimes you can sell a lot
- 9:56of books. Sometimes people are not interested in your books. They want something
- 10:01else. Same thing with some people with movies. They have part one,
- 10:03they have part two, and then sometimes part two doesn't do as good or
- 10:07as well as part one. So that's the financial thermostat, and your money
- 10:11goes up and it goes down. But what mistake I think that some people
- 10:16make. They'll start their business and they'll make good money in the beginning.
- 10:20Then they'll start to take that money and they'll start to spend it buying a
- 10:24new car, buying some jewelry, buying things that I guess they figured they
- 10:30always want it. But that's the problem. Did you really need it opposed
- 10:37to wanting it? So here's the question. Do you need to be standing
- 10:41on the unemployment line or do you want to be standing on the unemployment line?
- 10:46So be careful with that financial thermostat going up and down and spending money.
- 10:50Take that money and reinvest it in your business, or maybe you may
- 10:54come up with another business that you want to put it in the bank.
- 10:56Have a bank account, not just your regular bank account, have your business
- 11:01bank account. Make sure you keep it separate because when tax time comes around,
- 11:05it's going to be very important to make sure that you have separate accounts.
- 11:09Make sure you file your taxes on time. If you feel as though
- 11:13you're behind with filing them, actual an extension. Most times they give you
- 11:18an extension, but they only give it to you up to a certain day.
- 11:22Some people ask, how can you shift your entrepreneur mindset. I'm gonna
- 11:26be honest, in the beginning, my mindset was all over the place.
- 11:31As a child, I wanted to do this, I want to do that
- 11:33when I grow up. I wanted to have this. I wanted to have
- 11:35that. My mindset was everywhere I started thinking when I opened up, when
- 11:41I started writing books, which is not something I initially wanted to do.
- 11:45Me personally, I wanted to go to school to be an international judge.
- 11:48None of this entrepreneur stuff I even thought about. Life happened, and life
- 11:54happens to most of us. So things change and my mindset change, so
- 11:58that would becoming an entrepreneur. Things were coming to me. With doing the
- 12:03books. I started looking at other vendors and the things that they were doing,
- 12:07and walking around and meeting and greeting people and going to conferences and doing
- 12:13things. But what started me in the candle business, believe it or not,
- 12:16it was COVID. COVID started me in the candle business. And how
- 12:20that happened was I had COVID and I just thought, like everybody else,
- 12:26that that was going to be the end of me. So I was treated
- 12:30and I was taking care of well, taking care of and I think everybody
- 12:33that helped, and just doing everything that I needed to do. One day
- 12:39I just happened to be in the house and I just was smelling. It
- 12:43seems like I get my smell back. And I smelled this candle and I
- 12:46was able to smell it, and I was like, oh my god,
- 12:48the smell so good. I don't know whether it was because of the smell
- 12:52of the candle or it was because I was able to get, you know,
- 12:54my sense back. I kind of think it was both. So I
- 12:58smelled that candle and I said, Wow, this is the best thing that
- 13:01I've ever smelled. And I wanted to not duplicated, but I thought that
- 13:05I can start making something that smells like that that other people can smell,
- 13:09not just because of COVID, but just it was because it was a beautiful
- 13:13smell. So that's how I got into doing candles and my line of candles
- 13:18or the bedroom candles. So I have a commercial out which you'll see a
- 13:20little later on, and they're doing pretty well, and I'm really proud of
- 13:24them. But the biggest question that I was asked, in my view,
- 13:28why is it so crucial for individuals to find a career that aligns with their
- 13:33interesting aptitudes. Only thing I can say about that is we want more.
- 13:43I think that most people want more, but sometimes we take on more than
- 13:48what we can handle. Like I said, I wanted to be a judge.
- 13:52Writing books did not align with that, but the stars aligned with it,
- 13:58and that's where I had to go. I had to keep going and
- 14:01just find what my interest was. And my interest was in this, My
- 14:05interest was in that. I was kind of all over the place. But
- 14:09I'm okay now. I guess some people say I'm good. I'm in a
- 14:13better space. I'm in a better headspace. So that keeps me going and
- 14:18I'm happy with where I'm at right now, and that's where I want you
- 14:20to be. I want you to be happy with where you're at. Sometimes
- 14:24people have a career mismatches, and I see it all the time with individuals.
- 14:31They'll graduate from college and they'll change careers. For instance, they'll graduate
- 14:35from medical school when they should have been actually working in a pot shop.
- 14:39They may not know anything about what they studied. They may be afraid to
- 14:43actually do the job that they did, or maybe they just got through by
- 14:48the skin of their tea. What are some of the signs that someone is
- 14:52in a career that they don't truly align with They just simp, They just
- 14:56don't be interested, They're not interested in it. And I can honestly tell
- 15:01you I was interested in being an attorney and being a judge. Well I
- 15:05fell into being a social worker. No, that was not something I wanted
- 15:11to do, but life happened. It didn't align with that plan, But
- 15:16God had a bigger plan for me, and it worked out, and it's
- 15:18working out for me because I've met some interesting people. I've worked with some
- 15:22wonderful families, and I've helped reunite a lot of families. So he had
- 15:28a better plan for me, and I think that's what aligned with me,
- 15:31and that gave me the strength to keep going and it's now my passion.
- 15:35So when I say I wrote children's books, my children's books are on foster
- 15:39care and adoption. So you see how things can turn out. They may
- 15:43not actually be where you wanted to start off with, but it worked out
- 15:46for me, and this is where I'm at now in today's fast paced changing
- 15:52where many are considering career switches. Some people take certain steps and some people
- 15:58pivot, and some people pivot successfully. Just be mindful of making that change
- 16:03and going into a different area. My guest is here at Charise. Charise,
- 16:10if you could unmute Hey, hello everyone, how y'all doing? How
- 16:17would you? That's okay, you are here. You are here, And
- 16:22like I introduced her earlier, this right here that we are speaking to.
- 16:27This is my guest, Charise Johnson Moore, to own and CEO of Charise
- 16:33and Johnson Moore LLC. And she's going to be discussing with you about entrepreneurs
- 16:37gaining exposure through advertising, broadcasting, publishing and marketing. Now. I've been
- 16:42going on for a little bit, just trying to wait for you to get
- 16:45your you know, technology together, and that's an entrepreneur move too. Technology.
- 16:52Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do, because I
- 16:56think that they heard enough from me, so I wanted to give you the
- 16:59floor right now tell them about your business. Hello. My name is Scherie
- 17:03Johnson Moore. I'm the owner of Johnson More, a LC where I help
- 17:07entrepreneurs gain exposure through media in the form of advertising, broadcasting, publisher and
- 17:14marketing. I am the executive producer of Johnson More's podcast, which can be
- 17:18found on Apple, Spotify, and Google and eight other podcast platform of distribution
- 17:26channels. I am also the executive producer of four virtual broadcasting shows, Morning
- 17:33word and worship. Let's talk Sunday Entrepreneur, Corners and authors excerpt Sunday And
- 17:40Hi everyone, Hello, and how is everyone during today? Wow? See?
- 17:47Now when I talk about entrepreneur, I was just tell you a little
- 17:48bit about me. But did you just hear that this is what I'm talking
- 17:52about. You get yourself set on one thing and then you open up Pandora's
- 17:57box talking to them a little earlier about financial thermis stack. Can you talk
- 18:03to them about the financial thermis stack? Okay, financial thermist that is know
- 18:14your budget? Okay, it's called know your budget. Get up. I
- 18:21tell all entrepreneurs before they jump off in and talk about I got a business,
- 18:27it's how much money are you working with? And I say that,
- 18:33And I say that because I started my even though some some people become very
- 18:40successful when they start off a business, well that like myself, I didn't
- 18:48start with dame. I started off with one book and I didn't have no
- 18:55inkling or what a business plan was, what a financial I didn't know nothing.
- 19:00I would green like jolly green right. And the more and more I
- 19:08learned, I had to learn certain things that I needed in order to prosper
- 19:17or go to the next level in my business. And one was you better
- 19:21know your numbers, know your numbers and where your projections are taking you.
- 19:26Like, say, where you want to start off in year one. You
- 19:30may start off at zero income. You start the business off, but you
- 19:34have projection that means you have a goal that you would like to accomplish by
- 19:41year two. By year three, you may want to double by what you
- 19:45had in year two. You want it, okay, each year you may
- 19:48want to double that number of your goal you want as income and please,
- 19:53please please, Then I start a business without ei n number. Oh yeah,
- 20:06listen your business as an ALLC or you know, and sometimes when you
- 20:12when you want to do more, it requires more. So instead of being
- 20:17an ALLC, you may want to change to an S court. I loved
- 20:21that. Yeah LLC. It protects you and make sure you have insurance.
- 20:30I was talking to him about that earlier. M And you want to get
- 20:34your stuff trademarked. You want to have your name trademark, you your business,
- 20:41You'll been the name trademark, your ideas trademark or whatever you called.
- 20:47Intellectual properties, you know, intellectual properties. You want to have everything copyrighted
- 20:52because people do like to steal stuff. Now these days, some people don't
- 20:56like to be original. They like to take your idea and put their name
- 21:00on your idea. Okay, now that's called I can sue you for the
- 21:07I can sue you for what you you know? What you you know take,
- 21:12it's ideas, it starts, it's concepts, courses, it's book titles.
- 21:18It is so many things you know that I see happening to entrepreneurs that
- 21:26they don't that they just don't do. And what key strategies would you recommend
- 21:40for someone looking to improve their leadership skills as far as being an entrepreneur,
- 21:45Get some more education. Get all the education you can, whether you have
- 21:51to go back to school for accounting, whether you have to go back to
- 21:53school for bookkeeping, whether you have to go sit down with your accountant.
- 22:00You know, and learn all the aspects of your business. Don't just say
- 22:06I'm the CEO and you don't know what the uh what? What other roles
- 22:11that you play in your business? Is more to leadership than having a title
- 22:17as chief executive officer. It's more than that. You know, you have
- 22:22to find out all the aspects, so you might have to do the ship
- 22:26and and handling one day, might have to ship and receiving one day.
- 22:29You might have to you know from your experience, what are the biggest challenges
- 22:37hunting from news face today and how can they overcome them? Okay? Challenges
- 22:41is knowing when to get a team, to get other team members because you
- 22:52may start off by yourself, but it will get overwhelming and you be you
- 22:57know, you think you can handle of books, and you think you can
- 23:00handle this, and you can think you know and know you can't once you
- 23:03start having all the other ideas come in your head, You're gonna have to
- 23:07delegate that the chores to somebody else's certify public accountant, tax accountant. You're
- 23:12gonna have to you know how, need a virtual assistant. You might need
- 23:17a graphic art designer, you know, because you ain't got but two hands,
- 23:22but you got eight things to do, okay, so you're gonna have
- 23:25to learn how to delegate that to someone else and looks back, looking back,
- 23:30what is one piece of advice you would give to your younger self into
- 23:34our youth who would like to become an entrepreneur. Learn everything you can before
- 23:41you jump into this. Learn everything. Go back to school, you know,
- 23:47take community classes. Uh, take courses at community college. You know,
- 23:53So how can the school and universities better equipped out to understand and navigate
- 23:59their potential career pass Because I know when I was going to school, we
- 24:03were doing home act. We were we were learning how to cook, and
- 24:07the guys was taking wood wood shop and stuff like that. And some team
- 24:11may still be doing but but they're not doing it. We were even learning
- 24:15how to type when we were But yeah, you know the as D F
- 24:26J, J K L say, and that's embedded in my head. But
- 24:29these they go like this looking for the letters. Yeah, how universities that
- 24:36equipped out you to understand and navigate their potential create classes for the You can
- 24:45create classes for the you while they're still in high school, so they can
- 24:51come to the college and take some pre courses and things like that. You
- 24:56know, I think that's what they you know, what they need to set
- 24:59it up between in the high school and the college. Okay, if you
- 25:02want to take this class, you wanna get edu credit, or you want
- 25:04to get this credit towards your college education, you could take these simple these
- 25:10courses and things. And I think they need to. When I see some
- 25:15other countries are starting their children their youth as young as what fifty sixth grade.
- 25:22They're teaching them some of these things. They even teaching them other languages,
- 25:26and that's another whole new story. But they're just teaching them, and
- 25:29they seem to be more advanced than our American children. Do you think that
- 25:33they should be learning at that same pace and age or do you think it's
- 25:38too much? Yes, I think they need to learn early on in life.
- 25:42Like my grandma sat me down one day. I was in my grandma's
- 25:48sitting down at the table, and I think I was seven or eight years
- 25:51old, and she said, I want you to add up these numbers and
- 25:56tell me what this what the number is. And then I did that and
- 26:03then I said, Grandma, what's he number? She said, there my
- 26:04bills for the month. These my bills for the okay, and she had
- 26:10me do her. She taught me how to do check book. That's so
- 26:15important you have. You have some adults that don't even know how to write
- 26:18a check. They love casting them, but they do not know how to
- 26:21write a check. I'm sorry, I said it. That's I believe it's
- 26:26true. I believe it's what we're gonna do right now, We're gonna take
- 26:30a commercial break, and when we come back, we're gonna continue to talk
- 26:33with Charise and we're gonna talk more about strategies personal development in the future of
- 26:38entrepreneurs. We'll be right back. Turn off the la candle tonight. Then
- 27:10you met, let's take a shower shower together. I was abuded. You
- 27:26mustada some not wealth day and say, Jay, turn off, Come to
- 27:56girl, I'm want to give you a special treatment, just so on turn
- 28:02on. Oh my gosh, that's that commercial that I was telling you about
- 28:11me being an entrepreneur. Those are my bedroom candles, my thirst body and
- 28:17we also do affirmation pillows. So I see that Sharis had stepped out for
- 28:22a minute. But YouTube again. Can be an entrepreneur just hanging there.
- 28:29Go to your local library and you could get a lot of information from the
- 28:33library on how to start your own business. Charis, should we have personal
- 28:41development strategies for self improvement, goal setting and overcoming personal barriers to succeed?
- 28:49I think it would behoove a person two read books on mindset. Read books
- 29:06on mindset, because it's all about your mindset. You can't bring that old
- 29:11thinking into the new you. It's all about mindset because when you look at
- 29:18things different. I give you this example. When I first started my business,
- 29:25I didn't know what a book costs. Right. I sat down and
- 29:30did my research how much book costs, and did the research and all that,
- 29:34and I'm was like, how they authors make all this money? Right?
- 29:37So then I sat down and had to do a figure sit down,
- 29:41you know, and it changed my mind about money. See, I was
- 29:47already I said, I was already a hustler before I started this business.
- 29:52But hustling and entrepreneurship is two different things. They want certainly, but they
- 29:56pay them bills. They yeah, they pay the bills. But you've got
- 30:00to manage the money different. You got to manage the money different because if
- 30:06you want to level, go to another level in your business, you're gonna
- 30:10have to put some of that money away. Now, yeah, we we.
- 30:12You know, when you're hustling, all right, the money might come
- 30:17easy, you know, it depends on what you do. But entrepreneurship,
- 30:22when you dial on Uncle Sam, it's a totally different story. I call
- 30:26it the flow of money. It is definitely different from an entrepreneur and those
- 30:30who are hustling because you watch your money. To me, you watch your
- 30:33money a little different. And let me ask you, Sharid, I'm curious.
- 30:37The job market is forever evolving. How do you see the future of
- 30:41work? The future of work evolving, especially with the rise of A and
- 30:45I in automation, we have to learn that it's a must learn these changes,
- 30:56ma'am. How can we prepare for these changes? Because AI is everything
- 31:02I'm in there? Take classes, Take classes. Do not get so comfortable
- 31:07in your business that you stop learning. Don't get so comfortable in your business
- 31:12you don't stop learning. You got to keep learning. You know, I
- 31:17got a friend. Her name is April Beverley, and April Beveley is putting
- 31:21out her own AI program. And you know how much she charged it for
- 31:26this program sixteen hundred dollars and it's worth it. She created everything herself.
- 31:32It's always copyrighted, trademarked, and everything. Everything you've done, she created
- 31:37sixteen hundred dollars just to get on board. That ain't including the monthly fee
- 31:41you probably gotta pay. But my thing is is never stop learning. When
- 31:45you see new stuff come out, learn about it, sit down, take
- 31:48the classes. You know, you know somebody always teaching something, you know,
- 31:52in that after five minutes and popping out, you know, people want
- 31:56to teach it. You know, so learned. What's the future of the
- 32:01workforce everybody? In other words, what lies ahead for entrepreneurs, everybody working
- 32:08from home? Because you see the big the big big wigs, they closing
- 32:13their businesses down on people. Can't you know they're closing their businesses down people
- 32:19get their laying off people they do, you know, and it's like everything
- 32:22is done on the internet, everything done on in it. We talked,
- 32:27you know, whoever created this program, they probably sat at home and did
- 32:30this cold, you know, or sat in the building and did the cold
- 32:34and now they get to sit back and get reap the benefits cause how much
- 32:37money we paid for this subscription? Every money, you know, it's always
- 32:42about. And then I see avag people always hiring people to work from home.
- 32:49That is on the rise, people to work from home. I see
- 32:51that that's incre There's a buzz around there. There's a buzz around building a
- 32:57six figure business for entrepreneurs. How our listeners who may not be familiar,
- 33:01can you break down what that means and the key components that's going into creating
- 33:06one greatness the business. First, when you creating a six figure business,
- 33:17it is you got to put everything in strategic order. You put it in
- 33:25strategic write it down, make your plane. Then you gotta put the strategy
- 33:30to each step. So you got this ideal, or you want to do
- 33:35a course, okay, I wanna do a course. That mean you're gonna
- 33:38have to sit down and write out each detail of each thing. That is
- 33:44how your business. Okay, that is how business is built. It's strategized.
- 33:49It is put saying you want to make a million dollars by by a
- 33:53year. Okay, how many products do you have, how much you're charging
- 33:59for those products, and how long is it gonna take you each month to
- 34:04make an equivalent of adding up in the year million dollars. It is broke
- 34:08down into a process, a strategy. It's not just saying I want I
- 34:15want a million dollars and then we don't have no strived we don't have no
- 34:17putting, no win and put none on paper. We haven't thought about it,
- 34:22we haven't sat down with our accountant. That also requires for us financial
- 34:28planning very well, you're gonna need your certified public account. You're gonna need
- 34:32the accountant because he could really go in the detail of what products you might
- 34:38need to increase, increase and increase, and then you might have to go
- 34:45along and create other products to add with what you already started with. You
- 34:52know, that's just like I give this I give this example. I start
- 34:55off with one book and the book has become a coffee mud with a book,
- 35:05Okay, that you break it. Okay, I started one book,
- 35:07then I broke it down to uh, the book and then a T shirt.
- 35:15So that's two products. That's two products that I broke it down to
- 35:19a book, a T shirt and another book, So that's three products.
- 35:24So that's you could roll that in three ways. You can row there in
- 35:28one way all three together, or you can roll at one each, or
- 35:31you can roll it two each, or you know you could that's ways of
- 35:36multiplying your income diverse and finds where you have your products. You know,
- 35:45it's often saying I'm sorry, and talkten said that many small businesses don't make
- 35:50it past the five year mark and your experience, what are the key factors
- 35:53or systems that can prevent this kiss of death? And that's what they usually
- 35:58call it, the kiss of death doesn't. Your business doesn't make it past
- 36:01the pride of your mark. What are the key factors as systems that could
- 36:06invent that? Knowing your numbers, that's the key factor behind all. So
- 36:15it's all about numbers. You have to have and you have to have a
- 36:21plan. You have to have a plan business plan. So you start one
- 36:24year and what you want to have by that, by that third year,
- 36:28what you want to have by a fifth year. How much do you want
- 36:30to make? And you have to put that strategic planning or it'll fail because
- 36:37soon as you're getting the money in your hand, you spending it and trying
- 36:39to look good, and you're buying all this and doing all that. But
- 36:43then when Uncle Sam got his hand up, you can't pay Uncle Sam youth.
- 36:49You know you Now I want to throw Yeah, I'm gonna throw a
- 36:52little rerinchings. We talked about entrepreneurs and businesses and money and reading and learning.
- 37:01You can have all of that. You're putting it aside and everything.
- 37:05But the wrench is you have a partner and the partner is ready to go
- 37:08one way. You have a partner. You know we're going with that.
- 37:16You have a partner and you know what that could mean in some businesses.
- 37:22I'm not gonna say all businesses where partners are not stable, but this is
- 37:28where that kiss is death. Where you got that first year and that money,
- 37:32that money is coming in and whatnot. But your partner's ready to grow
- 37:37it in another way and you see that it's going You know, things are
- 37:40going well. This is your first year. Some people the first year is
- 37:44they worship. But your partner is seeing that we already at nine months and
- 37:50we made this amount of money. Let's do this. What is your take
- 37:52on having a part Okay, my take on having a partner is I learned
- 38:00this with my coach. My coach is Audrey Richmond. And the part you
- 38:08know, and what I've learned from self experience is how did they handle their
- 38:14own personal finances? First? Before you jumping this partnership? How did they
- 38:21handle their own money? What did they do with their money? Can I
- 38:24get a bank account statement? Can I get us some statements from ten years
- 38:29ago? Can I get statement? Fried? You you gotta when you come
- 38:32to partnership, you gotta investigate them, just like you investigate people come to
- 38:37ask you about being on like you got to investigate people just like you work
- 38:44for the FBI because people can lack. Yeah, because the person make a
- 38:49mistake, they make a mistake, your partners. It costs you, just
- 38:57like it's costing them. Because I give you this experience, I'm gonna give
- 39:01you all this experience I had. I had somebody I thought was a friend
- 39:07of mine, and they asked me to go in with them on the streaming
- 39:09channel and all right, okay, let's sit down and you know, and
- 39:16then you know, this made it sound all good and everything. Then I
- 39:21was like, wait a minute, I'm creating the videos. I'm uploading the
- 39:24videos. I learned I didn't ask the right questions, and I asked the
- 39:30brother, I said, what if I'm doing all this work, when I'm
- 39:34gonna get my money? Oh, I give it to you if I get
- 39:37to you. I said, so who get paid? Oh? I get
- 39:40paid for the videos. I said, okay, so she then I said,
- 39:46well, when you're gonna do? You know? I said, well,
- 39:49how are we gonna work this? Oh? I figure you do everything,
- 39:52but you want the money? H scared pump your brace, sister,
- 39:58I don't think so. So we kind of, you know, and I
- 40:01realized that everybody's not meant and everybody, everybody meant to go on the ride
- 40:08with you because you got you know, and you you got to be careful
- 40:15who you share your ideas with. Yeah, in a minute, yes,
- 40:23they And the thing is that when they come to entrepreneurship, just like you
- 40:29go to the to the bank and ask for a loan, you got to
- 40:31treat the person that want to be partner with you the same way. I
- 40:35need a background checking and the criminal background check. I need to know who
- 40:37your mama named. Do your mama got any property in her I need to
- 40:42know your dad and name. I need to know your cousin and them name.
- 40:45I need to know everybody birth, birthday, so security number. I
- 40:47need to know all your business. Would you advise a financial advisor? For
- 40:52a person to have a financial adviser, everybody needs somebody advising about some money.
- 41:00Everybody need it. Sometimes they advise you, though, and you see
- 41:05your money going off to another account that has nothing to do with you.
- 41:08But it's your money going off to the other account. Okay, sometimes even
- 41:14to tax for now, there's a difference between an accountant and a tax repape.
- 41:19You got to even watch out for them. Let me ask you what
- 41:22are some daily habits or routine that have significantly contributed to your success. Ok,
- 41:29you're a successful woman. I changed the way I deal with my money.
- 41:36I changed with the way I dealt with my money. Each month,
- 41:38at the end of each month, I do my books. In each month,
- 41:44the last day of each month, I do my books. I don't
- 41:47do nothing else on that last day. I got a pull out. And
- 41:52whenever this is another thing, whenever you pay for something and come across your
- 41:58screen, whether it's on tablet, cell phone, whatever, whatever, print
- 42:01it out because you were doing so many things, and we you know,
- 42:07we're doing so many things, and it is still our responsibility to watch the
- 42:12money, to watch what you're spending, and print and print every receipt out
- 42:19that come. I don't care if you buying food or olive garden, print
- 42:22it out and put it in a folder. Each morning I got a folder.
- 42:27Okay, this is June, So June got their folder. And every
- 42:30time I got I spend money on Camber, I spend money on on e
- 42:36cam. I spend money on all my supplies and things. And when I
- 42:40even when I spend money out of my account for personal items, I put
- 42:45that in as me paying myself. It's a certain way, you know,
- 42:50we could do that where we pay you know, a po box, getting
- 42:54one of those that's business business lunches. You know. You gotta say receipts,
- 43:00you know. And I'm talking business, not a romantic lunch with your
- 43:05Yes, Yes, we're talking about you, because I'm telling you you can't
- 43:12just well, I ain't gonna talk about some people who as using certain things,
- 43:15but you have to be mine them. You have to separate your personal
- 43:21from your business. You can't co mingle the two. I tried that the
- 43:25first three years, and it was the worst experience for me. So from
- 43:30that point on, I decided to separate my business from my personal and stop
- 43:35using my personal for my business and stop you my business for my personal.
- 43:38I had to separate my money. I could. It wasn't gonna work.
- 43:42It's not gonna work because you'll be discombobulated. Okay, then, and you
- 43:47got you know, Uncle Sam will come knock on your door and want ain't
- 43:51to explain certain things, and if you can't, you're gonna have another type
- 43:54of problem on your hands. Have an audit on your hands, or audit
- 44:00I require when that's another thing that I do. I have a bank account
- 44:05just for my tax money. When I'm gonna get him at the end of
- 44:07the year. There's money I'm not touching, so I don't have to go
- 44:10and oh I owe him twenty Oh, I got to pin him twenty three
- 44:15hundred dollars. Now I gotta figure out at the end of the year where
- 44:17I'm gonna get the twenty three hundred dollars. Pump. No, if you
- 44:20saved up at the beginning of the year in a different account that you can't
- 44:23touch, that you can't you gotta go on the bank and sign for it
- 44:28and all that. Don't even get an ATM card, debit card for it.
- 44:32Just turn around and put that tax money in that account. And then
- 44:36the end of the year when it's tax time, you can just go on
- 44:37in and pull it out. You ain't got no problems. That's what Yes,
- 44:44one of the key takeaways and valuable lessons you hope to impart to our
- 44:47viewers and listeners. Okay, this is what I'm gonna say. Take your
- 45:00time and don't rush the process of being an entrepreneur. Get everybody in line,
- 45:08your team, your virtual assistant, get your certified public accountant, your
- 45:15tax accountant on whoever's gonna be on your team, your graphic usters out,
- 45:21get everybody and vet them out the yin yang because people that have I tell
- 45:28you this, people they handle money, you gotta watch them. The most
- 45:34people that handle tax counting and a certified public count meet with your accounting every
- 45:40three every month, or meet with them every I go meet mine. When
- 45:45I do my papers, I take them and I sit down with my account
- 45:49once a month when I take in my my, my tech, my every
- 45:53sixts and stuff for the end of the day. But at June, I
- 45:57go July first or that first week in July for June to get in the
- 46:00paper and turn around and we sit down and we strategized. This is six
- 46:06months. So for our listeners and viewers who were just starting to or considering
- 46:09venturing into the world of entrepreneurship, what's the single most important piece of advice
- 46:15you'd give them regarding setting up their business systems for success. Now, I
- 46:20know you mentioned you know, having your team. I know one of the
- 46:25things that I did, and I did that earlier on. I didn't even
- 46:28know what I was doing, but I just created my vision board, which
- 46:31was one thing, and another thing was I got one of those black and
- 46:36white composition books and I just started putting all my information right in there until
- 46:40I started getting a ledger and transferring over there. What would you suggest would
- 46:45be the single most important piece of advice that you'd give them regarding setting up
- 46:50their business systems for success. Make sure your paperwork in order as far as
- 46:57the LC and that's in order with your EI N, and then you might
- 47:04want to get you also depends on what you do. I have a vendor's
- 47:07license in the state of Pennsylvania. They require you to have a vendor's license.
- 47:10In order me to stand out front of my house with my table with
- 47:14my products, I have to have a vendor's license. In some states they
- 47:17also call it a trader's license. So you just gotta know the terminology of
- 47:22a lot of the things for your state, because you can have different parts
- 47:28of your state that may want one thing, but another part may request something
- 47:32now, So become very familiar with the things that's going on within your state.
- 47:39You can go again, you can go to circuit court and ask questions
- 47:42about things. You can go to your bus that's their business accountants that their
- 47:50local libraries have seminars that's there that offer certain programs. Some colleges they offer
- 47:58community colleges or for a lot of programs and their free programs. Mm hmm.
- 48:02You know you got smaller business associations business. Yes, small business administration
- 48:09offer classes too, and then small business administration. I don't know if anybody
- 48:15ever heard of that, but a small business administration. And you have all
- 48:20your paperworker order, you can also you can also uh uh do when you
- 48:24have all your paperwork order, you also apply for grants for your business.
- 48:29Yes, right, but you got to have that paperworking or pork. Now,
- 48:35here's the thing you mentioned grants. Remember we were in COVID. Some
- 48:37people were getting that money and they weren't using it for what they were supposed
- 48:45to use it for. And then when they get caught up in the end,
- 48:49they have no way of showing what they used that money for. They
- 48:52were saying that they needed the money to pay some employees. Some of them
- 48:55didn't even have an employee, and they get caught. They got caught up
- 49:00in it. So you you know, this is some serious stuff you have.
- 49:06You gotta be honest because you want honest money coming in. You gotta
- 49:08be honest, because you're not gonna get caught up in a way where you
- 49:14may be choose a federal time. It's not it's look I know, not
- 49:20to go down the rout because I don't look good in Orange and that's the
- 49:22state, the state that I'm in. And I don't like shackles on my
- 49:24feet either, even though I love the song, but I don't want no
- 49:27shackles on my feet. No. Entrepreneurship is the creation or extraction of economic
- 49:32values and ways that generally entail beyond the minimum amount of risk and potentially involve
- 49:38values besides simply economic ones. An entrepreneur is an individual who creates and or
- 49:45invested in one or more businesses, bearing most of the risks and enjoying most
- 49:50of the rewards. If you want to know more about the process of setting
