- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All Right, well, I posted
- 0:07Speaker 1: a couple of big interviews the last few hours here
- 0:10Speaker 1: at Willing Up Alex Media, with lou Terminello, of course,
- 0:13Speaker 1: and a returning guest in Jay Paterno, the son of
- 0:17Speaker 1: Joe Paterno. But I haven't been able to opine with you.
- 0:23Speaker 2: On some thoughts I've had this entire week.
- 0:27Speaker 1: My grandmother's birthday was this past Tuesday, and she.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Would have been one hundred and eight.
- 0:37Speaker 1: And it's interesting because what one hundred eight is the
- 0:41Speaker 1: number of years it took for the cubs to break
- 0:43Speaker 1: their curse ten years ago. But it was also interesting
- 0:47Speaker 1: because March twenty fourth, twenty twenty three, was the day
- 0:51Speaker 1: my dad finally admitted he needed a lot of medical
- 0:54Speaker 1: help and a lot of medical care. And on March
- 0:58Speaker 1: twenty fourth, in addition to our earthly support to Simon
- 1:02Speaker 1: Richard from our church, I do believe on March twenty fourth,
- 1:09Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, it's proven my parents from a.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Far Mom and Vic as well, I do believe.
- 1:18Speaker 1: That shift from where he was to the hospital took
- 1:23Speaker 1: place with my grandmother overseeing it from above. You know,
- 1:30Speaker 1: my Deedy wanted the best for everybody in her life
- 1:33Speaker 1: and wanted the best for everyone in her life, and
- 1:37Speaker 1: my dad was no exception. She always welcomed him in
- 1:40Speaker 1: to her house in Queen's. We always stayed over on weekends.
- 1:43Speaker 1: She always made a nice warm coffee, nice hot coffee
- 1:46Speaker 1: in the mornings, and she made his breakfast every every
- 1:49Speaker 1: Sunday morning when we were there staying overnight. I mean,
- 1:51Speaker 1: there was just a lot of ways my grandma, my deity,
- 1:56Speaker 1: made my dad included in our family. So perhaps on
- 2:04Speaker 1: her birthday twenty three, that would have been five years
- 2:12Speaker 1: after we all were there, my dad included in twenty
- 2:15Speaker 1: eighteen to celebrate her on hundredth birthday, five years later,
- 2:19Speaker 1: her acts of giving, her acts of kindness, her acts
- 2:23Speaker 1: of love continued from above. By I think now that
- 2:32Speaker 1: I look back at it, I didn't think of it
- 2:34Speaker 1: in the moment, but looking back at it, by putting
- 2:41Speaker 1: that energy for my dad to get the help he needed,
- 2:45Speaker 1: so I don't think it's a coincidence. On March twenty fourth,
- 2:47Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, my dad went to the hospital. I
- 2:50Speaker 1: went to the er to get the treatments he needed
- 2:53Speaker 1: to start getting the treatments he needed. Because that's what
- 2:57Speaker 1: my grandmother.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Would have wanted.
- 2:59Speaker 1: She would have wanted him to take care of himself,
- 3:02Speaker 1: just like she wanted me to take care of myself.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And there were times when she'd say, put on your
- 3:06Speaker 1: big boy pants and just get the job done, whatever
- 3:09Speaker 1: that might be, whatever that might be. So it took
- 3:16Speaker 1: a little time to self reflect on this, but yes,
- 3:19Speaker 1: I believe this week three years ago my Grandma, Myddi,
- 3:26Speaker 1: ourdity from above, put her energy into that and got
- 3:33Speaker 1: the ball rolling from my father to get the help
- 3:35Speaker 1: he needed where he would end up staying till of
- 3:39Speaker 1: course April fifteenth, twenty twenty three, where he would pass away.
- 3:42Speaker 1: But he passed away in great care.
- 3:45Speaker 2: He was taking great care of it, Sony down to
- 3:48Speaker 2: State Hospital.
- 3:51Speaker 1: And I don't think him going to the hospital in
- 3:54Speaker 1: March twenty fourth isn't a coincidence.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I really don't. I really really don't.
- 4:07Speaker 1: And I do miss him on this day every day, but.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I miss him on those.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Days where those medical actions had to be taken, where
- 4:23Speaker 1: the push to get him into the hospital to begin
- 4:27Speaker 1: with was taken.
- 4:34Speaker 2: And now.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I could say three years later my grandmother.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Had a role in it.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And I don't remember it was a guy from twenty four,
- 4:43Speaker 1: but it was it was in that vicinity.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I always thought it was the day. The twenty fourth
- 4:49Speaker 2: was the day though, And I do believe.
- 5:03Speaker 1: D D's energy that month, that push to get him
- 5:08Speaker 1: to the hospital was supported my of course mom, and
- 5:15Speaker 1: stepdad VIC, my dad VIC and of course Richard, our
- 5:19Speaker 1: friend from church.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I do believe those were all part of the push.
- 5:27Speaker 1: But I think DDE had a role in it, even
- 5:30Speaker 1: if we couldn't see it.
- 5:32Speaker 2: The date that he went and got help.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Is significant for all of us, it really is, and
- 5:46Speaker 1: we will miss him. And then, of course on my Instagram,
- 5:55Speaker 1: I just posted the picture with the Commissioner's trophy where
- 6:00Speaker 1: in the Cubs in honor of my dad, in honor
- 6:04Speaker 1: of the ten years since the Cubs won, and I
- 6:07Speaker 1: posed that picture with Rizzo, and I've.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Said the story before.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I got to thank Anthony Rizzo at the Today's Show
- 6:12Speaker 1: Plaza for winning the World Series in a time where
- 6:17Speaker 1: my dad and many many millions of Cub fans could
- 6:21Speaker 1: watch it happen and break the curse all together in
- 6:24Speaker 1: Unison that night.
- 6:33Speaker 2: And I feel very.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Touched about this whole week three years later because I
- 6:43Speaker 1: think three years ago i'd be getting a picture in
- 6:45Speaker 1: front of the Commissioner's Trophy with a Cubs sweater on
- 6:49Speaker 1: that has our namesake, Garrett, I didn't know. I did not,
- 6:56Speaker 1: but I'm glad I got it, and I was given
- 6:58Speaker 1: the opportunity to by NBC in Peacock and uh MLB
- 7:08Speaker 1: of course, and maybe for you, the NBC hosting baseball
- 7:15Speaker 1: again is a nostalgia trip. I said last night to Loutermanello,
- 7:18Speaker 1: I said, look, I remember when Bob coss Is called
- 7:21Speaker 1: the Yankees team of the decade and team of the
- 7:23Speaker 1: century back.
- 7:24Speaker 2: In the D eight. You know that was that was
- 7:27Speaker 2: pretty cool. Now he's back on NBC. How cool is
- 7:30Speaker 2: that guy? I've always looked up to a guy that always.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Remember my dad and I for many years, alongside Kenny
- 7:38Speaker 1: Albert and all that. But but and of course Kenny
- 7:42Speaker 1: on NBC also having that historical of the Golden goal
- 7:46Speaker 1: by Jack Hughes. I love the NBC Sports is relevant.
- 7:51Speaker 1: I've always thought a role in NBC Sports would be
- 7:54Speaker 1: very special.
- 7:54Speaker 2: And maybe we'll get there one day.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Maybe we'll have to see maybe one look up Alex
- 7:59Speaker 1: Media will get there a sports throwing it out there
- 8:05Speaker 1: but I also want to take a moment and say
- 8:07Speaker 1: everything has an order of Malchisa deck. I'll look it
- 8:13Speaker 1: up if you're not sure what I mean, but everything
- 8:15Speaker 1: has a synchronousity to it.
- 8:17Speaker 2: And if my timing is correct, and that my.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Dad was brought to the hospital the week of my
- 8:24Speaker 1: grandmother's birthday, then she definitely played a role. She. I
- 8:32Speaker 1: think it was a twenty second he was brought in
- 8:34Speaker 1: because I remember the twenty third. We were there on
- 8:38Speaker 1: Thursday at twenty third, and then Friday the twenty fourth.
- 8:40Speaker 1: But it's my grandmother's birthday week, So there's no doubt
- 8:50Speaker 1: there's a synchronousity there between my dad finally getting the
- 8:53Speaker 1: help he needs the week of my grandmother's birthday.
- 8:56Speaker 2: She would have been one hundred and five.
- 8:57Speaker 1: That week, and that pushed to get him in to
- 9:04Speaker 1: the hospital. It was painful watching him struggle out of that.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Place he was living at the time.
- 9:16Speaker 1: It was painful, and it was even more painful when
- 9:20Speaker 1: actually on that Friday they tried to get him to
- 9:23Speaker 1: walk and he here's a guy that carried all his
- 9:26Speaker 1: bags and everything, his cups and bags and all that
- 9:31Speaker 1: for miles, for miles, and it was painful to see
- 9:36Speaker 1: he could not move anymore. And I haven't really talked
- 9:40Speaker 1: about it because I never thought I should talk about it.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I could talk about it, my dad would never want
- 9:46Speaker 1: me to talk about it.
- 9:48Speaker 2: But I have to share it because it's my Catharsis.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Three years later, this podcast is my Catharsis getting me
- 9:58Speaker 1: through all these emotions and feelings, thoughts and whatever else.
- 10:07Speaker 1: And it's been Catharsis ever since he went to the
- 10:10Speaker 1: hospital March of twenty twenty three. It's been a catharis
- 10:14Speaker 1: since I lost my grandmother in June of twenty eighteen,
- 10:18Speaker 1: a few months after she turned eight one hundred and
- 10:24Speaker 1: now the synchronicities of my dad going to the hospital
- 10:28Speaker 1: the same week as my grandmother's one hundred and fifth birthday,
- 10:31Speaker 1: I think, and see him in the hospital the same
- 10:34Speaker 1: day as my grandmother's birthday. I mean, there's no doubt
- 10:39Speaker 1: her energy helped push him to get help. She always
- 10:46Speaker 1: had a way to make her point on and I
- 10:57Speaker 1: think her birthday week three, she was focused on that
- 11:03Speaker 1: from above because she did love my dad, she did
- 11:08Speaker 1: want the best for my dad, and maybe she saw
- 11:18Speaker 1: the strain those few months were on me trying to
- 11:22Speaker 1: care for him, especially from January through till March. I
- 11:28Speaker 1: think it was March twenty second. She was always sharp
- 11:36Speaker 1: like that. She was always sharp like.
- 11:39Speaker 2: That, and I miss her.
- 11:45Speaker 1: But I'm so thankful to feel that there's synchronicity between
- 11:50Speaker 1: my dad's getting help three years ago this week and
- 11:54Speaker 1: my grandmother's one hundred fifth birthday this.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Week three years ago.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Cause that'll help me process and understand she's very intertwined
- 12:09Speaker 1: in our lives to this day. So happy Birthday week, DD,
- 12:19Speaker 1: and thank you for always watching over us, and thank
- 12:21Speaker 1: you for always welcoming and including my dad in your home,
- 12:26Speaker 1: in our family home basically, and I pray you both
- 12:33Speaker 1: are reconnected by now up there. And that's my message
- 12:38Speaker 1: at one Leg of alex Media
