- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. And it's a Friday, so it's
- 0:15Yvonne too. Hello everyone.
- 0:17And it's school holidays and you I haven't chilled week.
- 0:21I have had a lot of craft in my week.
- 0:24Wow, so much craft in our house. It's.
- 0:27A few crazy deadlines. It's been awesome.
- 0:29I've loved it. It's one of the red weeks that
- 0:32it's good for me to go to work. Just clear some space, some
- 0:34dining room, some kitchen bench space and the madness.
- 0:37Continues Hey, we leave a leader full and fabulous life.
- 0:44And Speaking of full and fabulous, we have got this book
- 0:47bursting at the seams of Proverbs of Wisdom for us to
- 0:51dive into this morning. What a privilege.
- 0:55Indeed, so shall we do that? Yes, definitely.
- 0:59All right, we are going to read Proverbs 23 nine to 14.
- 1:15Don't waste your breath on fools, for they will despise the
- 1:19wisest advice. Don't cheat your neighbour by
- 1:23moving the ancient boundary markers.
- 1:26Don't take the land of defenceless orphans, for their
- 1:29Redeemer is strong. He himself will bring their
- 1:33charges against you. Commit yourself to instruction.
- 1:39Listen carefully to words of knowledge.
- 1:43Don't fail to discipline your children.
- 1:46The rod of punishment won't kill them.
- 1:49Physical discipline may well save them from death.
- 1:56And again. Don't waste your breath on
- 1:59fools, for they will despise the wisest advice.
- 2:06Don't cheat your neighbour by moving the ancient boundary
- 2:09markers. Don't take the land of
- 2:11defenceless orphans, for their Redeemer is strong.
- 2:14He himself will bring their charges against you.
- 2:19Commit yourself to instruction. Listen carefully to words of
- 2:23knowledge. Don't fail to discipline your
- 2:28children. The rod of punishment won't kill
- 2:31them. Physical discipline may well
- 2:33save them from death. Boy, just I always feel like
- 2:49clarifying just those verses 13 and 14 is not a call to
- 2:55physically harm or use unnecessary physical force
- 3:00against anyone. Yeah.
- 3:03And I guess what that's saying, you know, through the lens of
- 3:07time and cultural differences, is take the time to engage and
- 3:11correct and guide and improve rather than just leaving to
- 3:16their own devices, right? Yeah, absolutely.
- 3:19Yeah. And at the same time committing
- 3:21ourselves to instruction and us listening to words of knowledge
- 3:25as well as passing on that knowledge and correction to our
- 3:28next generation. Boy, it's just so important to
- 3:32be wise, isn't it? To fill our minds with wise
- 3:36instruction. To listen to counsel.
- 3:39And the and the flip side is also represented there.
- 3:42Not wasting our breath on fools who will despise, you know such
- 3:46good advice. Oh boy, it's another Friday
- 3:49where we are called to wisdom to really being careful in our
- 3:53actions and and just being conscious of living a deliberate
- 3:57life following Jesus. Yeah, well, Jesus, we need your
- 4:03help as we follow you. We need Your help to put aside
- 4:06our ego and to hear wisdom, hear correction shared with us.
- 4:15That we would listen carefully to words of knowledge and that
- 4:18your wisdom would shape us and that we would be encouraged to
- 4:22share your wisdom with others who look to us for guidance.
- 4:28So, Lord, I pray that we would be fountains, fountains of not
- 4:32only your wisdom and guidance, but also your grace and your
- 4:36love in this world that desperately needs both of those
- 4:40two sides. So, Holy Spirit, come guide us,
- 4:45grow us, shape us, so that we can be instruments of your
- 4:50Kingdom in this world that so desperately needs you.
- 4:53And we pray this in your name, Jesus, Amen.
- 4:57Amen.
