- 0:00Hey y'all, it's friendly. Welcome back to In the
- 0:03Stillness. Happy Tuesday.
- 0:05I am so expectant for today's episode.
- 0:08I really feel like this is one of those passages that just
- 0:12lights me up, and it's honestly one of my favorites because it
- 0:17reminds me of who I really am in Christ.
- 0:20And so I pray it does for you too.
- 0:23Let's go ahead and jump right into today's scripture.
- 0:26We are going to be in first John chapter 3 verses one through 3.
- 0:34Look with wonder at the depth of the Father's marvelous love that
- 0:38He has lavished on us. He has called us and made us His
- 0:42very own beloved children. The reason the world does not
- 0:47recognize who we are is that they didn't recognize Him.
- 0:52Beloved, we are God's children. Right now, however, it is not
- 0:57yet apparent what we will become.
- 0:59But we do know that when it is finally made visible, we will be
- 1:04just like Him, for we will see Him as He truly is, and all who
- 1:10focus their hope on him will always be purifying themselves,
- 1:15just as Jesus is pure. OK, this one is so powerful and
- 1:22there's so much here. First of all, your identity,
- 1:27your worth, your value as a Christ follower is rooted in one
- 1:33thing and one thing alone, God's love.
- 1:37It is not your performance, not your appearance, and not what
- 1:42you have or don't have. It is anchored in the fact that
- 1:46you've been adopted into God's family.
- 1:50And I love that John makes it so clear.
- 1:53This is not just something for later.
- 1:55It's not just something that we get when we get to heaven.
- 1:59This is now. You are God's child right now.
- 2:04So we don't wait to claim that identity.
- 2:08We actually get to step into it today.
- 2:11Humbly, yes, but also with authority, with boldness.
- 2:16So that leads to a real question.
- 2:19Are you living like royalty? And I don't just mean outwardly
- 2:25like money, appearance, status. I mean inwardly in your heart,
- 2:33because if you are a son or a daughter of the king on the
- 2:36throne of the universe, you don't just go anywhere.
- 2:41You don't just participate in anything or align with
- 2:45everything in the world because you know your title and you
- 2:50carry it with dignity, elegance and with grace.
- 2:54Of course, not perfectly, but carefully and intentionally.
- 3:00And knowing where your identity is found changes how you live
- 3:06because it frees you from chasing what the world chases.
- 3:10So you're not looking to lust or temporary pleasure.
- 3:16Money or materialism. Obsession with your appearance
- 3:19or with your body. Gossip, Approval of man,
- 3:23Comparison. Because your worth was never
- 3:28there to begin with, it never belonged there.
- 3:31As royalty, you already have access to what you truly need.
- 3:36You have the King's presence all the time, and you have the
- 3:40Father's lavished love. There is no lack in God, there
- 3:47is no insecurity that He does not cover.
- 3:51So you don't need to run to the same things that everyone else
- 3:54is running to because you already have privilege.
- 3:58And I don't think that we sit with that word enough, the
- 4:02privilege of being called a daughter or a son of God.
- 4:08Now, John also uses the word lavished that communicates that
- 4:14it's not just a bare minimum or just enough.
- 4:20It means overflowing. Think of feast.
- 4:24It's in abundance. God did not just save you and
- 4:28stop there. He brought you in.
- 4:32He gave you His name, He made you family, and He invited you
- 4:36to share in what is actually His.
- 4:39So that should leave us in wonder and in awe and fear of
- 4:44God. And if it doesn't, I just want
- 4:48to encourage you. Ask Him for that again.
- 4:51There have been seasons where my heart has felt a little
- 4:55calloused and numb to this, and I've really just had to pray.
- 4:59Lord, would you soften my heart again?
- 5:02Would you make it tender and keep it tender and allow me to
- 5:06feel the depth and reality of your love?
- 5:10Because it is real and there is truly nothing like it anywhere
- 5:15else. And then John shifts our
- 5:18perspective even further. He reminds us that this world is
- 5:24not our home. It's not the end.
- 5:27We are not made for this world as it is now.
- 5:31We are being made for something greater.
- 5:33So you don't want to peak here if this is not what truly lasts.
- 5:39We are in a constant process of becoming more and more like
- 5:43Jesus, this sanctification process.
- 5:47And one day we're going to see him face to face.
- 5:50We will be like him. We will be radiant, glorious,
- 5:55Holy Y'all. That is God's design for us.
- 6:00So I just want to ask, do you believe that?
- 6:04Because even right now, we only see a glimpse, A sliver.
- 6:10But one day the fullness will be revealed.
- 6:14And here's where I think it gets super practical.
- 6:18John says that those who have this hope purify themselves.
- 6:24This hope is not passive because it transforms how you live in
- 6:30the modern day, in the present moment.
- 6:33The kind of purification he's talking about is continuous.
- 6:38It is a daily choice, saying I want to live in a way that
- 6:42reflects Jesus, not out of pressure, but out of love and
- 6:48anticipation for his return. Because when your gaze is truly
- 6:54fixed on his face, you become less focused on yourself and
- 6:58preoccupied with things of this world.
- 7:02You become so captivated by his beauty instead.
- 7:06And this connects so beautifully with Jesus's words as He is
- 7:11giving the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5 verse 8, He says
- 7:14blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
- 7:19So purity is not just about behavior, it's about vision.
- 7:24It's about a heart that is surrendered to Him and set on
- 7:28seeing Him clearly and rightly. So I want to leave y'all with
- 7:33this thought. If you truly believe that Jesus
- 7:38could return at any moment, He could return today, tomorrow, or
- 7:43in a few weeks. How would you be living?
- 7:48Because that kind of hope is what purifies you.
- 7:52It shifts your choices, your thoughts, your priorities, how
- 7:57you make your schedule. You start asking, OK, what do I
- 8:02want to be found doing when I come face to face with my
- 8:07Savior, my Lord and my King? So I just want y'all to sit with
- 8:12that as I'm reflecting on it myself, and I'm going to bring a
- 8:16few questions to you guys before I close out in prayer.
- 8:20First off, am I truly living from my identity as a child of
- 8:24God or am I still seeking worth from the world?
- 8:29Two. Do I recognize and receive the
- 8:32lavish love of the Father or have I grown numb or complacent
- 8:38to it? And three, what do I want to be
- 8:42found doing when Jesus returns? So let's go ahead and close out
- 8:46in prayer. Dear Father, we just thank you
- 8:54for your love that you have so freely lavished on us.
- 9:00You did not just save us and give us salvation, You adopted
- 9:05us as your own. Would You help us to truly live
- 9:09from that identity today? I pray that our hearts would
- 9:14really reflect Jesus. I pray that you would create in
- 9:18us a clean heart and purify our thoughts.
- 9:22Give us a steadfast right spirit.
- 9:25God, fix our eyes on you. May we be so in awe of your love
- 9:32and rooted in the hope of what's to come, the hope of glory.
- 9:37We pray this in Jesus name, Amen.
- 9:40OK y'all. Well, that is what I have for
- 9:43today's episode. Praying that you guys have a
- 9:46wonderful rest of your day and I will see y'all on the next
- 9:48podcast.
